A: internet explorer and file explorer issue

Hi ,

The forums are really busy, that explains why logs get behind. If you still need some help, please start with posting a new hijackthislog in this thread. Don't start with a new thread.
Then we'll take a look.

I have created a VM with Windows 8.1 64 bit ISO. After the VM created at some times, File explorer and Internet Explorer links in the task bar is broken and the desktop background has became black. And no Videos, Pictures or other libraries working.

As soon as the OS installed, I automated a bat file which would do the following things.
* Disable UAC Policy
* Disable IPv6 by changing the registry.
* Delete local Admin account by logging into domain Administrator account(In AutoUnattend, I will do a auto login command, which do a auto login with domain administrator and run a bat file which will do these steps)
* Determine OS version (This to identify whether the installed OS version is higher than Windows 7.  If it is higher than Windows 7, I will invoke a auto installation of our party software)
Now, Could you please let me know why the libraries are not functioning properly and what is the reason behind broken links? I am confident that it is not happening due to the batch file or is it so?
Also, I have checked the Ease of Access Center under Control Panel.  Remove Background images check box is not selected.
Thanks, Please let me know this as soon as possible.

I am having problems with my OneDrive on the desktop in Windows 8.1. When examining the OneDrive in the File Explorer there is an "!" in a yellow triangle against the folder. At the bottom of the FE Window a message says "You're not connected to the internet" (see below), which I am. Should this message appear and if not, how do I remedy the situation.

A:File Explorer Organization Issue

Hello Windows1987, and welcome to Eight Forums.

The tutorial below should be able to help you to add "Network" back to your navigation pane.

Network - Add or Remove from Navigation Pane in Windows 8 Explorer

If those are shortcuts in your last screenshot, then it may be the shortcut arrow is messed up. If so, then using the tutorial below to restore the default shortcut arrow should help.

Shortcut Arrow - Change, Remove, or Restore - Windows 7 Help Forums

Hope this helps,

We have alot of issues with windows 7 computers at our business. Todate we are unsure what is causing the issue as there is no way to replicate it and it seems to be happening randomly.

Most of the time explorer doesnt crash as there is no error log in event viewer in relation to explorer or any other error i can see. Most issues are with desktop views not updating or responding correctly, also pc not shutting down as the explorer process is hanging at 50%.

Ending explorer and restarting the process fixes the issue even though there is not crash log.

I have added registry logging as per Collecting User-Mode Dumps so if explorer properly crashes(you get the not responding/restart process window and a event in event viewer) it will log the crash into a user .dmp file.

These dump files are very large, about 300mb in size. I have tried to open them in Windbg but i dont really get enough info i think I need some help to open these correct and get some information on what can be causing the explorer crashes and issue.

Is there anyone out there who has had experience opening and analysing these types of files as im having alot of trouble and getting know where.

See below the info when i go to open the crash dump via windbg. (this is all i get i would expect to get more info seeing the .dmp files are so large)

Microsoft (R) Windows Debugger Version 6.2.8400.0 X86
Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation. ... Read more

A:Explorer Crashing Issue - Help need to analyse .dmp file

Start by typing

!analyze -v

Into the bottom of the debugger - there's a small window there for typing commands.

Try zipping up the logs and uploading a few of them to a free file-hosting site.
Then post a link here so we can download and look at them.

Just FYI - I'm not real experienced with user mode dump files, but sometimes can muddle through them enough to get some ideas!

I have a Windows 7 machine, with explorer 9. This is a work computer. I have to download a file monthly for reports at that time I fill all the information out and then send it back. it is has macros.

Up until 2 months ago, this worked without issue. Now every time I do it, it comes up with an internet connection issue (which there is not). I have reset all the explorer options to default - I have updated java - I have performed all windows updates - I have tried to use explorer 8, still nothing. I then downloaded firefox, and it works effortlessly, unfortunately I cannot send it back (upload it back to the server) with firefox due to something they have in place.

I can go to another computer running windows xp pro and it works no problem. downloads and uploads. This is fine but the information that has to be imported is on my computer from multiple documents.

So any ideas? Where should I be looking next? I have contacted the company that supplies us with the reports and they have no ideas.

What is the error message that IE9 gave you?

Can you use IE9 to surf else where?

When you say you have reset IE9, did you go to Internet Options > Advanced > Reset Internet Explorer's Settings ?

I also

Delete the browsing history of Internet Explorer
I had also reverted back to the older IE
I also uninstalled security essentials and reinstalled it

I used malware bytes, adwcleaner, hitman pro all after running rkill to stop malicious processes ... the system shows as clean now and all report 0 infections.

Hi Everyone,

My Windows 7 installation has just developed a strange issue with file handling.

When I attempt to change a file name, e.g.: document.txt, Explorer doesn't reflect the change on screen.

So if I open Explorer navigate to a file and then rename, for example:

document.txt is renamed to a.txt, then Explorer still shows "document.txt".

If I then attempt to rename documnet.txt I get a message along the lines of "this file is no longer available".

Clicking on the back / forward arrows (to move between directories) allows the file name to refresh!

This problem first presented itself when my Windows 7 installation crashed.

The crash occurred whilst I was running VMware Workstation (XP - SP3 client), and XP mode both at the same time, so essentially I had two guest operating systems and the host all running at once.

I believe that the issue may be related to the fact that 3 operating systems (1 - host, & 2 guests) had access to the file system at the same time.

If anybody knows a fix for this issue or has any ideas regarding how this issue might be fixed they will be greatly appreciated.

First off, I have performed a clean boot, then ran system restore, also performed all necessary cleanup including registry. I have Googled, and Googled and Googled with different phrasings of my issue. But to no avail I have yet to come up with an answer so here is hoping someone else has solved this. While it is not an operational issue, it is very much a distraction. It all started with in the last couple of days and the last thing I installed was "FireFox" browser which I have since uninstalled and then performed the above named procedures. When I open windows file explorer, and if I left-click and hold the vertical scroll bar for the right pane and drag to scroll an "info bar" popups displays the folder or file name as I scroll down. To me this is a real irritant. I will attach a screen capture that will show it. Any help appreciated........

Hi all,

I have this issue on a Windows XP SP1 notebook with Internet Explorer 6 SP1 installed.

It seems that when you click on Javascript links, nothing happens. Also when you go to help --> about in Internet Explorer it doesn't show the version anymore, and the ok button doesn't work either.

I have tried already the following to resolve:

regsvr32 of the following files:

I reinstalled internet explorer (edited the registry to enable this)
but to no avail.

We have this problem also sometimes on our Win2K machines, but here it is resolved easily by reinstalling Internet explorer and choosing Reinstall all components. It doesn't give me that option in Windows XP.

Any suggestions are very welcome.

Hi guys

I made the decision to download IE10. To be honest I cannot make any distinguishable difference to IE9 in terms of speed. I don't like the fact that to switch to 64 bit browsing you need to change enabled protection something or other and reboot. Seems a pain.

Anyway the main backwards step/problem is accessing my Netgear WNDR3700 v2 router web GUI now. Whereas before it would be instant or at most a few seconds to show up. Now it often takes 10-20 secs to respond. It's intermittent as on occasion it is instant. I know the GUI was designed I think when IE8 ruled the roost but I find this odd. I tried all types of compatibility settings and changing the mode under developer tools. Plus clearing browser cache etc. No change. I am not a fan of having several browsers cluttering my laptop so I only have Mozilla as an alternate browser and there are no problems at all with this.

Any ideas on the router GUI issue, just plain not good with IE10? All other browsing with IE10 seems fine apart from this. I tried Netgear forums but no real help. I can update firmware to receive a newer GUI but the firmwares are buggy (well documented issues) and the one I have is most stable.

A:Internet explorer 10 issue

Actually the more I think about and use IE10 it seems to be far slower accessing internal devices. So for say my router or say my book live NAS or my draytek access point The router is the worst offender but they all intermittently take over 10 seconds to respond in the IE10 browser but then sometimes they are instant. I don't recall this on IE9 and when using Mozilla I don't see same 'waiting for response' delay. Normal external sites seem pretty much fine all the time.

Very disappointed with ie10 so far. Once again seems like change for the sake of change. Maybe I should not of updated but no doubt windows update would of soon be pushing it in our faces. It just seems updates these days are bad wherever they come from. Microsofts new IE, the strange windows 8 obscenely lacking desktop start menu, even apple are at it with dreadful iTunes 11 and IOS6. It's all changing what was not broke and losing functionality. Trouble is you feel compelled to update either for security reasons or to be able to sync your new device as it will only work on latest update.

Sorry I sound like a moaner. Just very dissillusioned at the world of tech these days.

Hi Team,

I'm facing an issue with Internet Explorer 8. Let me tell u in detail.

Sometimes back I had to reinstall the Windows XP SP2. Since then I've bee facing an issue with IE. At this time of reinstallation, I had IE6.

Whenever I launched IE6, first of all it took somewhat long time. Secondly, whenever I closed the IE6, it hangs up for more than 2 minutes and then a small box pops up with the message as "to help protect your computer, windows has closed this program"....and then when I clicked on the tab to close it, another box pops up with the message "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and need sto close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" and then I close this box by clickimg on "Don't Send" tab.
Now this closure takes a hell lot of time and it freezes the system.

Then I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded IE8. The same issue was ongoing rather it worsen by the fact that it was now taking more time than before.

Then I downloaded XP SP3 from the Microsoft's site but the issue is the same....No Luck!!

I am attaching the screenshots of the messages for the referrences (1st msg and 2nd msg)........Pls help me on this issue !!

Hi, I'm a student in Canada and I've been having an issue with internet explorer.
At first, I didn't suspect it was a problem with IE, but after a little while, that's the conclusion I came to. You see, everytime I type in a new address into the address bar, an executable file with some bullsh*t name (example. something like "dgdjhsf" or "hdjgirjf". rubbish.) is created then opened. I know this becuase I used the ol' Ctrl+Alt+Delete method several times. I first remove the *.exe file from the Windows-System directory and the *.log file associated with it (at least, i THINK it was a *.log file) and then remove it from opening on startup. Then I use a combination of AdAware and Spybot-S&D to try and erradicate whatever it was (sometimes they come up with nothing). Btw, I've also tried scanning the host files too and to no avail. I've tried restoring previous installations of IE or getting security packages (stuff on Microsoft.Com, God bless their souls.) and the problem is reoccuring. So, now I browse using WinAmp's Minibrowser and is looking for an answer other than reformatting, if possible.
Thank You for your time. ~ Eman

Hi All,
Monday morning I tried to access the web as usual by clicking on the 32 bit Icon and it keeps trying to open and a box keeps opening up that
says Internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close - there was one time that it said windows had encountered a malicious file
and would not open. It has not said this since. I can open it by logging in as an administrator. I also can use the 64 bit Icon with no problem.
Tonight - I ran Rkill in safe mode and then ran a scan with Malewarebytes, SuperAnti-spyware and my Avira all in safe mode - all came back clean.
Another thing is I was able to access the internet in safe mode on the 32 bit - with no problem?
I wondered if anyone might help me out or might be able to point me in the right direction.
one more note: Malwarebytes caught a trojan awhile back - I deleted it out of quarentine and it came back. So I have left it in the quarentine.
I'm hoping that it did not some how escape (smile).

Thank you so much for any help!

After suggesting to uninstall IE7, I tried to download an earlier version and it said I must uninstall IE7 first. I tried doing this, but it was not on my Add/Remove programs list. I know about the whole "Show Updates" thing and it should be under Windows Update, but it was not. As a matter of fact, a number of my programs are not on the Add/Remove list. Below is a picture of my add/remove programs. These programs are the ones I have installed, yet I have more that are not showing.

This wouldn't be a problem, considering I use Firefox, but my windows update is not allowing me get to the site, since it requires using IE7. Also, other programs use an internet applet via Internet Explorer, which I cannot access. Now everytime I even click on IE7, it says Error Report (Send or Not to Send). I can't think of any way to get rid of it completely. It's kinda bad because I recently bought McAfee (the three CD package) and cannot use them since the control panel is on an IE page/applet type deal. I considered reinstalling Windows; alas, some restoredllthingyissue caused it to fail, so I suppose that's out of the question.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

BTW: The system is free of viruses, spyware, adware, etc.

Hello and Welcome toTSF

Some issues with IE7 are that it pooches your systems uninstaller.

If "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview" does not exist via Add/Remove Programs, run %windir%\$NtUninstallie7bet2p$\spuninst\spuninst.exe. You need to have "view hidden folders" enabled.

I'm having an issue on one computer where whenever you load Internet Explorer 7, a blank white screen comes up (with the IE title bar) and IE freezes. This is consistent.

The event log is clean, and there are no pop-ups that IE7 has actually crashed,

I have tried reinstalling IE7, but that doesn't seem to solve this problem. IE7 doesn't load in it's safe mode either. I have tried IE6 and IE8 and both work decently, except IE8 is too unstable to put on at the moment. Unfortunately I can't run windows update because Service Pack 3 fails to install (Not enough admin privileges) or something along those lines. Which blows my mind because the user account is set to Computer Administrator.

Try adding your domain to the "Compatibility" list. To do this, click the "gear" on the top right, then go to Compatibility View, and add your domain to the list. It should refresh the page automatically, but if it doesn't, you will need to do it manually. (If you are viewing email, it may bring you back to the login page. Hey guys,
It seems I am not alone on this issue, but mine seems to differ a bit than the others I have read. You can actually get online. I go to any website(it will start to load) and I automatically get a black screen and a auto reboot. If I sit on my desktop everything works fine. I will give you as much information as I possibly can because my computer has been a complete nitemaire lately and I have just resolved some issues, but as it seems the more that I solve the more seem to pop up. Anyways heres a quick overview on what I have changed and what seems to be the major problem.
I updated and ran All of these programs:
AVG free, Adadaware SE, Spybot, Cwshredder, Malicious Software Removal Tool (microsoft, the july version but, I will run the august version ASAP), Norton Antivirus 2004 with updated Definitions, and a few other spyware programs, that I forgot the names now.

Ok first off about 1 week ago I had the DLL and DR. Watson error that wouldn't let me navigate through my folders, without closing the folders and driving me crazy. So I "tryed" to run sfc /scannow (I wish I knew about this scan a year ago!) but, unfortunately I completed everything on this link with no success:

florist and we have a floral service through 1800flowers. What it does is a Bloomlink client automatically
logs onto a web page that checks for orders to our store and if there are any prints them out. This
service has been using an older version of Netscape and just recently decided to upgrade. I received a
message with instructions on how to download the new client. I did that and tried out the new client
icon and got nothing. So, I call Bloomlink, tech says that they are now using internet explorer. He
has me bring up the ie browser and inter I get sent to a search engine site. Try
many more times, no luck. He says it must be my isp blocking this somehow. Basically tells me to
call him back when I get it fixed. I can reach this site, which looks like a login page, from other browsers.
My isp says since I can get there from other browsers, its not there problem. They suggest calling
Microsoft. I will do this, but wanted to get your opinions first.

I've cleared my cookies and reset IE settings to default , ran the IE Performance Troubleshooter , and the MS Safety Scanner. Internet Explorer still will not open normally .
I checked the properties and there is no exe.extoff in the target , and I've disabled addons and it still won't open !

A:Internet Explorer 7 issue

It (your problem) is most likely being caused by running an obsolete version (7) of IE.

Please make sure that your computer is completely up-to-date, by using the following procedure.

I recommend to my customers (I am an OEM of custom-built computer systems), that they run Windows Update every morning, in order to get the most recent updates for Microsoft Security Essentials (the anti-virus product that I recommend for everyone). You can download Microsoft Security Essentials for free using this link:

Here is a typical message, that I send to my customers:

I have started to use Windows Update first thing every morning, on my 'Windows XP' computers (I have 4 of them), and on my 'Windows 7' computers (I have 10 of them), primarily in order to get the most recent 'Virus Definition Files' for the 'Microsoft Security Essentials' (MSE) product (this is the anti-virus program that you and I are both using).

I have found, so far, that there are one or more new 'Virus Definition Files' every single day!!!

Doing the Update procedure every morning, will help to prevent your computers from being infected with any so-called 'zero-day virus'. I will explain what this means, below.

The way that anti-virus programs like MSE work, is that they scan for viruses, checking your files, emails, etc., against the 'virus definitions' in their 'virus definition files'. So, a 'new' virus, which is not in... Read more

I recently downloaded IE8 in hopes that it would fix a Yahoo mail freezing issue. It did fix that issue but now i have another. When going onto certain sites (such as my banking site) I get a message that says "Internet explorer has stopped working" It will then loop back to that site and keep trying.
I would also like to know why I can't open attachments in Yahoo mail. I couldn't with IE7 and still cant with IE8. It runs through all the steps and looks like it's going to open...but it never does.

I'm running Vista Home Premium btw.

Thanks for any help!!

Update: Ok...I've found out a few more things that may help. I removed my Norton 360 from start up and rebooted. So I had no antivirus at then ran perfectly fine. It opened everything and nothing froze. I of course thought it was a norton issue so I downloaded it does the exact same thing with Avira running. I can't open attachments and IE freezes and Google Chrome freezes. If I try to open my antivirus after the freezes too.
Please help..thanks.

Hi Chronos2k I'm having a problem similar to yours. I run McAfee Security. I think it's the antivirus software. It started several days after installing IE 8. McAfee started giving me security setting warnings and won't allow downloads or even open up some web pages properly. I'm going to look around some more and probably will do what Red Dawn is suggesting.I found this quote on an earlier post by Red Dawn.? I would strongly recommend [Temporarily] disabling your anti-virus application and any anti-spyware application's "system protections" (other than Defender's) before installing (or uninstalling) an IE upgrade. If you're running a third-party firewall, I would recommend [Temporarily] disabling it and then [Temporarily] enabling the Windows Firewall before installing (or uninstalling) an IE upgrade.? Create a Restore Point manually before installing IE8.? Reboot twice after installing or uninstalling IE8. luck,Olywane

I spent 2 days trying to get rid of the Internet Security 2010 trojan virus on a Pc on my home network. What an experience! Thanks to this website, you had the solution that removed the virus and put things back to 'normal'.

However, now IE does not find any website? I have email access no problem. I ran the MS diagnostics and it says that winsock is ok, but HTTP and FTP are not granting access. Did this virus change some port settings or anything like that?

It's weird, because it only happens with the login that I used to remove the virus. If I log on with another login on that PC, the Internet is accessible with no problem.

By the way, there were some left-over residue in the registry which I managed to clean up with no side effects. Search for IS2010 and just delete the entries. There were maybe 6 or 7 of them...not too bad.

ANy ideas out there on the IE problem? (I'm using version 6, SP3 on that particular PC).

Never mind...I found it. Evidently the Internet Security 2010 trojan changes the LAN setings in IE. That is, it turns on the proxy server setting on the Connection tab of the Internet Explorer options form. I unchecked it and we're in business again.

I am currently running Windows 8.1 (Pro), also I am up-to-date with Windows Updates.
Sometimes, when I open File Explorer (a.k.a. Windows Explorer), like "This PC".
It says "This folder is empty", it then starts some-kind of searching, also icons on the left are animated like "searching".
There is another one, it also takes time to sort files/folders orders, for example when I am in C:\New Folder and there are 5 folders and 5 files inside, none big sized at all. When I click on "Name" it then takes time to reorder the view.
Very annoying, and slowing my work.
Another thing is while I experienced these issues, I found another one that is.
View>Layout sometimes gets disabled and I can't change the view.
View>Options button behaves the same.

Best regards, OmegaExtern.

Hi, i am new at this, so bear with me lol

We have just moved our XP computer into the living room, and connected it to a 58kb dial-up connection. We installed AVG 8 and everything was running fine

Now we've installed Windows Live OneCare Family safety on the machine so we can monitor my borther and sisters internet usage.

Now, the computer runs extremely slowely, Windows Explorer continually crashes, meaning we have great difficulty opening My Documents, and My Computer or anything that requires Explorer to open

As well as this, now the internet is majorly slow... even for bloomin dial-up, we used to get at least 9kbps, but now its shot down to between 2.5 and 1.5 kbps

AVG is now continuously scanning... even outside of scheduled scans, and constantly wants to update :S

And finally, i have now noticed that small files i dont use very frequently have begun to dissapear from the system!!! music files, images, word docs etc.

We have tried defragging it, scandisk, using AdAware SE Personal 2005, AVG Scans, and they all come up with negligeable results.

As well as this, now the pc wont install files for Trend Micro Online scans to run... so we cant even work it out that way :S

I have a suspicion this could be something to do with OneCare, or Multiple Viruses in the system that have somehow hidden themselves from AVG

This sounds like a virus, have you tried running a hijackthis log?

I am running IE on Vista and have been for 1 year on the same computer (Dell Inspiron 1525) and last night these problems began.

When I type in my email (Hotmal, Gmail) and other text boxes, it is very slow and misses letters, though the issue is not with the keyboard itself.

Did this problem ever get figured out, and if so could someone please tell me how? Nothing seems to solve it.

A:Internet Explorer typing issue!!

It could be any number of things. First comes to mind is, any recent updates from MS. Sometimes those updates do some harm before they do good. Such as the ones your experiencing. Next thing would be to clean and debug you system form malware, spyware and adware issues along with viruses that are some times hidden. Then the next thing to check would be a complete system cleaning with an all in one utilities program like Advance System Care 3 or TuneUp Utilities 2009 for regular biweekly care. Then defrag harddrive and registry. Then reboot system. Regular system maintenance should be done at least once a month for lite users and biweekly for intermediate users and weekly for heavy users. Of course this is just my opinion but start with these and post results.

The behaviour of Internet Explorer 11 has changed of late, probably after some Windows updates.
When I attempt to download pictures or software from legitimate sites such as Flickr, Adobe or AVG for example, I receive the ?This file can?t be downloaded? error message. This did not happen in the past.

Most references to this problem suggest as a solution to reset IE completely ? I tried this and the problem remains.
I tried running IE without add-ons and that did not help.
I temporarily disabled my AVG Internet Security software ? no help.
I did a system restore, but no help as my restore points don?t go back far enough.

The only workarounds I am able to find are

Run IE11 as administratorUncheck ?Enable Protected Mode? under IE security tab
Both remove the problem though I don?t like either.

It would appear that lots of people experience the same issue but I have not been able to find a solution, only the workarounds above.
Is anyone able to assist?

It seems every time I hit the back button on IE, I get a page that says the page has timed out and I can try to hit refresh. For example, if I go to and sort a list of products by price, then click on one of the items to see details, when I hit back, the previous page does not reload. Does anyone have any ideas?

My IE was not loading no matter what i did.I'm computer challenged I've been running firefox but miss explorer(only because i knew how to use it.)I googled the problem and hit on this site. The remedy was to load IE from the start menu, with no add ons........yippee it worked, now what? The blog stopped there. How do i find out which 1 is causing the problem, and get rid of it?

this morning when i load my email with firefox i can acess the site but i can't open email or even delete them. When i opened it with IE no addons i was able to do everything????

A:Internet explorer loading issue

How do i find out which 1 is causing the problem, and get rid of it?Click to expand...

It's really your choice how to proceed.

1a. Get rid of all add-ons, then add them back 1 at a time.
1b. Get rid of all add-ons, then add them back several at a time.
2a. Get rid of one add-on at a time until IE will "load."
2b. Get rid of several add-ons at a time until IE will "load."

1b and 2b should be faster if you have a half dozen or more add-ons. Need I specify that when you isolate to a subset then you have to continue the process working with that subset?

We have one application which runs perfectly fine on IE version 6. The functionality goes like below:

When user starts entering value in the textbox, the JQuery displays the list of the values starting with the key in value. Now user
can finalize the values in following three ways:
1. select value from the displayed list by using mouse.
2. select value from the displayed list by using up/down arrow key followed by enter key.
3. User can ignore the displayed list and enter complete data on his own followed by tab key.

When running this functionality on IE version 8, the above mentioned point 2 and 3 are working fine but in point 1 instead of taking
the selected value from displayed list, system is moving forward with the partially entered key in value.
Could you please help us on this.

From the time I had begun to use IE7RC1 the problem with browser showed up.
I use dial-up connection and when I connect to the internet, IE hangs up for about 2-3 minutes (for broadband connection it's about 20 seconds). The system operates slowly as well. When I open Task Manager to see what's slowing down my computer there is svchost.exe process consumes almost all resources so until it gets satisfied with something that only Microsoft knows, it doesn't let me to use either IE or OE or MSN Messenger.
I havenít found a solution at MS web-site and I didnít have such issue when used IE6. Please help.

Hi Guys,

I am using Windows 7 64 bit Service Pack 1 and Internet Explorer Version 10.0.9200.16540 and I am having trouble with installing an Active X control.

I looked at my browser security settings (and everything appears to be OK), disabled my pop-up blocker... but I still can't install this active X control, when I go to this link...

NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Automatically Detect NVIDIA Products

All I am getting is "Initializing/Installing Component" but nothing else... no dialog box in yellow at the bottom of my browser window that prompts me to download and install the control.

Also... when I go into "Manage Add-Ons"... and go to "All Add-ons" I don't see that this control is even installed.

I need this active X control installed so that I can have Nvidia scan my motherboard driver and determine if it is the most current version.

If anyone can help me with this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi there,
Since this afternoon, I've updated two of the computers at home from Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10 Pro. Since then, i tested them and everything is fine on the first one (except a little bug with the address bar in Google Chrome) but not on the second one.
Let me explain you what the problem is. In the File Explorer, each time i scroll down to any location in the folder, it's scrolling up after a few seconds, but also prevent me to rename a file or a folder, because when I do, it seems some kind of refresh happens and I'm back to the top of the window and the file name (or folder name) is again in view mode.
Can you help me ?
Thank you in advance,
Kind Regards,

Hello all, I have recently come upon the Adzgalore spyware/adware infection. Along with this infection, came another problem, when I try to access Internet Explorer and I get the message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." Anyway, I attempted to uninstall it, everything went great, though when I attempted to reinstall Internet Explorer, it fails every time.

Adzgalore ads were popping up in both Firefox and Internet Explorer, and the ads changed, depending on what I was searching or looking at on my browser.

To solve the problem so far, I have ran thorough and up-to-date scans with Spybot Search and Destroy, AdAware 2007, AVG Free Edition, Avast! Antivirus, Pandascan, and BitDefender, and yet I am still getting those annoying pop-ups and Internet explorer continues to fail upon installation. For the Internet Explorer installation, I also followed all of Microsoft's troubleshooting tips with no success.

This is kind of urgent due to the fact that I need to access my bank account, and of course their website only works with Internet Explorer.

Hi everyone, I am hoping one of you may be able to assist with an issue I am experiencing with IE and firefox.

We have about 110 users in our office and all are affected, so I am prety sure it has to do with some type of routing within our network.

We are able to browse the internet with our primary browser (IE8) all sites can be accessed fine without issues except for one site. Trying to access this site from Firefox works . We have been trying to track this problem down and so far no luck.

I have taken a laptop and stuck it right into BELL router and I am able to browse the internet using IE8, so I know its has nothing to do with our ISP. We have 3 network: 192.168.80.x/24, 192.168.85.x/24 and 192.168.86.x/24, these are all the desktops who would normally access the internet.

Our PIX sits on 192.168.95.x (inside int). The company site we are trying to access, we have a SSL tunnel to thier network 192.168.30.x(for example). This tunnel is specific connection to the company AS400 server and has no validity on this issue. The internet address we are accessing for this website is an external site with a public assigned IP... 207.x.x.x.

Is their any config/command I could look at in perhaps would provide a clue as to what is happening here and why we are not able to access site through IE? I know IE a lot of you do not like as a broswer, but its what we are using as ours... I would very much like to have this resolved.

Thanks in advance for all your su... Read more

I'm running an up to date version of Internet Explorer 7 under an up to date version of Windows Vista Premium Home Edition.

My problem is this: Certain hyperlinks are dead on some sites (only some of them, most work)...when I left-click on them, nothing happens...I can sometimes bypass that problem by right clicking the link, then left clicking on 'open in new tab', but not all hyperlinks are setup that way.

For instance the 'Poke back' hyperlinks in Facebook never work.

What do you think the problem is? or even better...the solution?

I've been having a problem for a while that has been quite annoying to me. I think it relates to XP service pack 2, but I'm not sure:

In Internet Explorer, under Tools>Internet Options>Security, there are two problems.
The first is that the security settings slider for internet refuses to change to anything below medium. It gives the error:
"The Recommended security level for this zone is 'Medium'. The level you have chosen is lower than this. Please choose a security level of of 'Medium' or higher."
This sounds like a security pack issue, as I noticed the problem right after installing it. But it still bothers me to not have the ability to override the default.

The second problem on the same window is the lack of a "Custom Level" button. The button is there, but grey and unclickable. This is relatively recent and corrosponds to my recent virus infection which I just got rid of.
This problem is much more aggrovating as it doesn't seem to be any type of spyware or virus, and it restricts browsing in many ways.

I have run McAfee and found no current viruses/worms/trojans. I also have run both of the latest editions/updates of SpyBot and Adaware.

Somehow these problems seem easy to fix, but, of course, I've been unable to find any solution. Any help would definitely be appreciated.

Gentlemen and Ladies:

I have an issue I have been trying to solve without success. I have used and opened a sports website for years called which also sends me daily sports updates in several catagories through emails to my outlook express 6
mail client.

For some unknown reason recently, none of my 3 browsers (IE8/Firefox/Google Chrome) can open and when I get the emails from (which I still receive daily) and try to open one of the articles in the daily update,I get the following Security warning Window in IE8 which is my default browser:

Warning: Allowing this can expose your computer to security risks. If you don't trust the current web page, choose no.

What gives?? I know this is an active site--Why won't my computer allow me to connect. I have removed Comodo Internet Security and have kept the Comodo firewall and replaced the Comodo antivirus element with Panda antivirus which has cured some some other issues I have experienced but that didn't resolve this problem.

Please take a shot as this if you can--would really appreciate the help!

Got a friend with a Windows XP machine. Machine is a 1 year old Dell, dual core CPU, 4GB of RAM. They were complaining that it was slow so I went and took a look.

It wasn't really slow after Windows had time to settle but Internet Explorer was taking a while before you're able to browse or connect to any sites.

All other apps open fine right after logging into Windows but if you open IE, it just sits there saying "Connecting..." After a minute or two, IE is fine and running fast.

She's got NOD32 on the machine which seems to take a while to finish loading on startup so I thought maybe that was causing the issue. There's really nothing else running at startup other than the usual suspects, video control panel, sound, etc.

Any thoughts? Is NOD32 known to slow Windows at startup or slow IE while it's loading?

A:Odd issue with Internet Explorer after Windows starts

Yep. Could be NOD32, but it could be other setups or misconfigurations or clutter that NOD32 doesn't bother with.
One way to find out is to remove NOD32, and see what it does. You can re-install it after you have things straightened out.
You might want to use simple old programs like RegCleaner and Belarc Advisor....
Sometimes uninstalled software isn't really uninstalled... and is more like inactivated.
Have you considered using some system Tune Up Tools such as Registry Cleaner (CCleaner), Defraggler or UltraDefrag, Autoruns 10.01, Everest 2.20, or Speccy 1.02...
All of which can help you look at her computer, then be uninstalled later.
Some of these are helpful because they allow the owner to understand her computer visually.

Hi all,

It's certainly been a while since I posted here, your incredible services are required once more!

First of all, this will turn into a semi-rant topic in which I will be accusing Bill Gates of building my computer purely to annoy me. However, I have some browser issues I hope you can help me with.

OK, so I use firefox normally because I am used to it and under the illusion that it is somehow safer (i did include the word illusion so let's not debate what's safe and what's not please). Sometimes, when a page is loaded, Firefox makes a weird 'noise'. It's almost as if it's trying to be the equivalent of the IE 'click' sound, except it's like a DJ scratching a record. It's an odd sound to explain and I won't be able to catch a recording because I don't have a mic. It seems to me as if the program itself is corrupt and simply decides to make this odd noise whenever it feels like it. It disrupts songs, especially when I'm listening to music loud and is just generally annoying. I know the obvious thing may be to uninstall and re-install Mozilla, however, I will lose all my bookmarks! Or will I? I have alot. Any ideas?
