Audio Issues and Windows running oddly

Q: Audio Issues and Windows running oddly

Hey guys, I've been having issues with my computer for the past few days. My audio on videos and websites will not work, yet AIM and system sounds will play. I've tried installing my sound driver from Toshiba.com, but it didn't fix it. I'm also having trouble with the Windows XP style toolbar changing into the Windows 98 style toolbar after a few minutes of startup. My internet is also working sporadically when my router shows connection. I know I'm most likely infected with a virus, so I've run malwarebytes a few times and HijackThis a few times. I've fixed what an auto-analyzer has told me to but this file keeps coming back after startup: O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe Here is my latest hijack this log:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 00:05, on 2009-03-04Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16791)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\WINDOWS\AGRSMMSG.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxpers.exeC:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exeC:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktop.exeC:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exeC:\Program Files\SigmaTel\SigmaTel AC97 Audio Drivers\stacmon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeC:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Desktop Search\WindowsSearch.exeC:\Program Files\WinZip\WZQKPICK.EXEC:\Program Files\Google\Google Media Server\GoogleMediaServer.exeC:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jqs.exeC:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\SearchIndexer.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\wscntfy.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\SearchProtocolHost.exeC:\Hijack This\hijackthis.exeR0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.pogo.com/O2 - BHO: Java™ Plug-In 2 SSV Helper - {DBC80044-A445-435b-BC74-9C25C1C588A9} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jp2ssv.dllO2 - BHO: JQSIEStartDetectorImpl - {E7E6F031-17CE-4C07-BC86-EABFE594F69C} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib\deploy\jqs\ie\jqs_plugin.dllO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AGRSMMSG] AGRSMMSG.exeO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IgfxTray] C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxtray.exeO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HotKeysCmds] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exeO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Persistence] C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxpers.exeO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Google Desktop Search] "C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktop.exe" /startupO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exe"O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SigmaTel StacMon] C:\Program Files\SigmaTel\SigmaTel AC97 Audio Drivers\stacmon.exeO4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Aim6] "C:\Program Files\AIM6\aim6.exe" /d locale=en-US ee://aol/imAppO4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeO4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /backgroundO4 - Global Startup: Windows Search.lnk = C:\Program Files\Windows Desktop Search\WindowsSearch.exeO4 - Global Startup: WinZip Quick Pick.lnk = C:\Program Files\WinZip\WZQKPICK.EXEO9 - Extra button: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exeO9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Windows Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exeO16 - DPF: {6414512B-B978-451D-A0D8-FCFDF33E833C} (WUWebControl Class) - http://www.update.microsoft.com/windowsupd...b?1225136607436O23 - Service: Google MediaServer - Google Inc. - C:\Program Files\Google\Google Media Server\GoogleMediaServer.exeO23 - Service: Google MediaServer - Google Inc. - C:\Program Files\Google\Google Media Server\GoogleMediaServer.exeO23 - Service: Google Desktop Manager 5.8.809.23506 (GoogleDesktopManager-092308-165331) - Google - C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktop.exeO23 - Service: Java Quick Starter (JavaQuickStarterService) - Sun Microsystems, Inc. - C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jqs.exeO23 - Service: Viewpoint Manager Service - Viewpoint Corporation - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe--End of file - 3779 bytesPlease Help!

Hi and welcome

2 gigs should be way more than enough

Perhaps an issue could be the fact that there are 2 anti-virus programs (AVG and McAfee)
That can cause conflicts

Hello,

I seem to be having some problems with my computer. I'm using an HP Pavilion a1610n on Windows Vista. I am having more than just possible malware or virus problems, but I will only list those potential problems, as this section of the forum is just for that. (I have a couple other threads on the site currently. Please check those out as well!) So, here are some problems I am having.

--- Whenever I hit the button that puts the computer in a low power state that saves your session and start it back up, I only see a black screen. I hear sounds, so I know it's working, but nothing comes up. I end up having the hold in the power button to shut it down that way, which I do NOT want to do!

--- If a program, window, or browser freezes up, the computer sometimes goes to a black screen. It usually ends up going away, and I'm able to restart normally, but I don't know what is wrong.

Basically, I would just like to see if someone could help me fix whatever is wrong, because it's just not running right at all. While I wait for a response, I will run a virus scan and a malwarebytes scan (I will save that log, just in case it's needed).

I am running Halo on my PC.

I have a P4 2.4GHz running WinXp SP2
I have 1GB DDR RAM
GeForce FX 5600 256 MB graphics card

I am pretty sure this is hardware to run almost anything practical but when I play the game it plays very slow/choppy quite often. Anyone know why that is?

I checked in the game what my screen res was, and it was set to 800x600. I lowered it to the hext setting down. Not much imporvement.

Any ideas. Thank you.

A:Halo running oddly slow????

thats odd .. i just tried playing halo on my computer yesterday, and i have very similar settings (just my amd ops at 2.1 GHz). at first, i thought my computer could handle halo and its best graphical settings... i was wrong. turns out i have to play at 800x600, and i turned all settings on low just to be safe. what are your settings for vsync? i left mine so the FPS was locked at 30, and that seems fine except for real heavy action parts, but its not too bad.

i found out after a lot of testing that resolution plays a huge part in Halo's performance.

i dont think ill be playing Halo much anyway.. half life 2 runs better on my PC.

Yesterday I was playing around with some options from "Tampermonkey"- a program indicated by Arc(a gaming hub), that would improve Forum access.  I installed it and many jitters, starts & stops have followed.  Late Wednesday 5th August I was in middle of downloads with 2 PerfectWorld clients running at same time when said program 'PC Keeper Live' started running upon my system.  Immediately followed by some fella as a Live Support staffer IMing me that I have all hundreds various flaws, inconsistancies & hazzards in way my network is set up.  Of course too, there was the given line of Unecessary Junk Files that followed some graphing report stating I am in deep doo doo if I don't pay up something around $10/monthly to aleviate me of the confounded worries.   Fully credentialed as a microsoft partner and a couple other company names, this fella made it sound superbly convincing that my electronic life was about to come to a crashing halt.

Now, I am not unaware of various things like this, but never before upon anything in my system.  To Uninstall this, I have looked to no avail & now I am supremely ired that some chump somewhere can have complete access to anything.  Some assistance would be approvingly welcome please and Thank you very much for whatever assistance you can pass on.

Hello,
Please download Zemana AntiMalware and save it to your Desktop.

Install the program and once the installation is complete it will start automatically.
Without changing any options, press Scan to begin.
After the short scan is finished, if threats are detected press Next to remove them.
Note: If restart is required to finish the cleaning process, you should click Reboot. If reboot isn't required, please restart your computer manually.
Open Zemana AntiMalware again.
Click on icon and double click the latest report.
Now click File > Save As and choose your Desktop before pressing Save.
The only left thing is to attach saved report in your next message.

Hi all,

I am running an Asus M5A97EVO board on Windows 7 64bit. I run a Logitech G35 headset. So, I left out of province for work last year and was away for 8 months, once I returned I had a Hard drive failure and had to re-install windows on a new harddrive.

I cant recall exactly but I think the following issues came up after the install, they were definantly not there before I went away for work.

I play a PC racing game that uses audio
I use Teamspeak
I listen to Windows Media
I watch YouTube

I used to be able to do all 4 of these at once if I choose to. Now, If I have teamspeak open its hard to get my racing game going, sometimes I have to shutdown teamspeak, then get the game going then try teamspeak again. I cant listen to windows media and youtube videos wont load when I have my game and teamspeak running. If I close them, everything else works normally.

Its like I can only use 1 - 2 audio items at once, its really weird and I am at a loss as to what might be causing this.

Hopefully I have included enough information, anything else let me know and ill get it for you.

Chris,

My PC is running Win 7 Pro 64 Bit, SP1 with all the patches available applied and eScan AV software. It's been fine until yesterday when it took quite a few minutes longer than usual to boot.
In the system tray the Network Interface icon had a red cross through it and a status of "internet not available". When I checked the (manually set) IPv4 properties the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, and DNS Servers were all correct. However when I run a CMD DOS prompt, "ipconfig /all" shows my Subnet Mask as 0.0.0.0 not 255.255.255.0 as it should be. If I try to ping from the CMD it returns an error about unable to create the socket (sorry away from my PC so exact error message syntax unavailable at the moment).
My AV software hasn't loaded but running ESET Online scan show nothing serious (a couple of "unwanted" programs).
When I ran the windows troubleshooter it complained about DNS not working, yet I can run Gibson Research Domain Nane Speed Benchmark tester, it works perfectly.
I can web browse using I.E. 11 with no problems.
I can run Firetrusts Mailwasher - it reaches out to my POP3 email server and shows me a preview of waiting emails which it will delete correctly without problem. However when I run Outlook 2010, it loads fine, but errors whenever I click "Send/Receive". 0x80004059 or something similar, again sorry I'm away from my PC. Also if I click on my Outlook Account then nothing happens, no "Account Settings" window.

I have no clue how this happened, but suddenly many of my computer's windows are oddly enlarged. Whether it it Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, or some others. I don't know why they are enlarged like this, and it is very irritating. Does anyone know of any solutions? Below are links to screenshots of the issues mentioned, and it is mostly in the menu parts of windows, except in Chrome, from what I can see. In chrome, the top part of the window, where it has the account name, it is poking down into the main window. In addition, not all my Chrome profiles even have the top bar set up like that for some reason, and they still have it like older versions of Windows.

Example of Word's odd sizing: Screenshot by Lightshot
Example of Chrome's odd menu sizing and the profile poking into rest of window: Screenshot by Lightshot

Example of other Chrome profile and window buttons set up different: Screenshot by Lightshot

Any help, preferably sooner, is greatly appreciated!

Like many, I have the option to upgrade to Windows 10. I decided to wait a while, so I hid the update. Yesterday, I had several Office Updates and when I went to install them, the screen showed "Upgrading to Windows 10", "Downloading", then "Preparing to Install", which stayed for an hour or more, then I got the message that the "Updates Installed Successfully", not including Windows 10. After some reading I uninstalled 4 Updates (KB3035583, KB2952664,KB3021917,KB2990214) according to this site, referenced from these forums. Today, the same thing happened with some Windows Updates, except the downloading and "Installing" went by in just a minute. Now again, when I installed the emergency update (KB3087985 Security Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7) I only saw the Windows 10 crap but at the end, Update history shows that KB3087985 was installed successfully. It's annoying, hopefully someone has an idea to restore Windows Update to its normal behaviour. Oh, and I now have 5.75 GB of Windows 10 files on my drive, if I remove them, it goes back to the 30+ minutes pretending to install Windows 10.

Hi Sevenfoum

i have an issue with my computer!! it started last night whilst watching youtube , my computer just shut down (typical bsod)! i managed to get the computer to start up using the startup repair option and chkdsk and it now turns on! now i have a new list of problems

everytime i start windows it always goes through the preparing desktop as if the computer is new, & then tells me it failed to connect to the windows service event notification service??

my wireless drivers dont seem to be present along with sound, despite the windows sound playing after logging in.

my recovery partition seems to have disappeared despite it showing in disk management.

not only that but when i try to do anything which requires administrative rights i.e open cmd it denies me access saying the system could not find the enviroment option that was entered.

on top of all that the visuals on the computer have reverted back to classic.(not important)

if it is a software issue how would i go about fixing this, i think the windows files are corrupted or there might be damage to the harddrive, having said that there has been no dropping or damage to the laptop in anyway it just as i say shut down last night.

can hard drives just die without any prevoking?

any help / suggestions would be great and much appreciated. this is starting to stress me out and im getting it in the neck from the missus!

hey guys. I recently been having so many problems with audio sync issues when mounting a 3D image. Video plays fine in my media player. (have tried totalmediatheater and poweriso11 seems to be the best so far). anyway it seems like it plays fine in 2D but 3D is giving it audio sync issues. I think ive pinpointed the problem and ive found that disabling my motherboard audio driver (intel) and enabling nvidia audio seems to have a better effect in 3D playback (again mounting). ive tried a few different 3d image backups by the way, i also didnt have a problem with intel hd drivers playing 3D but intel drivers started to give me a BSOD which lead me to buy a nvidia card for 3D. So back to the issue. Is there a way to have both audio drivers installed becuase I switch from tv to monitor for display and I have external speakers that I would like to use instead of my tv audio. I also have the latest nvidia drivers, chipset drivers, directx and most up to date bios. im running windows 7 64bit, gigabyte mobo, geforce gt 520, 12gb ram, intel i5 2500. Also says nvidia hdmi output not plugged in, in windows sound properties if someone can explain that. sorry for such a long typed problem.

A:Having Issues with multiple audio drivers getting audio sync issues.

I have to enable intel driver then reboot so I can use my external speakers, any easier way without rebooting and keep switching audio drivers.

on my HP all-in-one computer, windows 8.1 was auto installed - the sound worked fine for a day, now it doesnt - also, i cant access the control panel - how can i fix this, and where can i get a free update or audio device?

A:Windows 8.1, audio service is not running

Although you don't have sound, the Operating System problems are really the problem. If you can't access the Control Panel, it looks like the 8.1 has corrupted your system.

This forum section is probably more applicable to your system problems.

The desktop uses the Integrated IDT 92HD68E2 High Definition Audio Codec and there is no sound output from the headphone port in the top I/O ports or from either of the two back audio ports ? audio side speaker out or audio line out. I have tested the speakers and headphones on other devices and they work perfectly so either the jack sensing has failed or the issue is deeper than that.I have tried the following without any success:uninstalling and reinstalling the audio codec;uninstalling and deleting the audio codec, then downloading and reinstalling it;opening the Sound panel on the taskbar to see what shows on the Playback tab ? ie:The Speakers/Headphones and Communication Headphones go from 'not plugged in' to 'ready' when headphones are connected to the top headphone port. No sound at the headphones thoughThere is  no change to the display when the speakers are connected to the back audio ports. The only sound I get is from a second monitor with internal speakers connected by a DVI cable. The problem may be related to upgrading the OS from Windows 8.1 to 10 but I can't be certain as I really haven't tried to listen to sound files since upgrading. Any help I can get would be most appreciated.

A:No audio on desktop running Windows 10

Hi: See if the W10 IDT audio driver works for you... This package provides the IDT Tempo High Definition Audio Driver for supported desktop models that are running a supported operating system. File name: sp71717.exe If the above driver doesn't work either, there is a workaround that you can try to at least get the sound to work... Go to the device manager and click to expand the Sound, video and game controllers device category. 1. Select IDT High Definition Audio CODEC under that category.2. Select Driver tab.3. Click Update Driver... button.4. Select  -> Browse my computer for driver software.5. Select -> Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.6. Select  High Definition Audio Device (Not  IDT High Def...  this is important.) and click Next.    A warning message may appear,  but click Yes.7. Windows has successfully update your driver software.8. Restart the PC. The key is step 6.

What follows is the text of the initial message that I posted at the Dell Desktop Forum regarding this problem:
Running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, Service Pack 1 on a Dell XPS 8700 Special Edition PC.  I am experiencing audio distortion/breakup & dropouts/skips when playing music from the computer through headphones or external speakers.  The problem occurs whether the source is iTunes, Windows Media or the optical drives.  The longer the listening time, the more frequent & severe the errors become.  When listening to ripped copies of the same music through an iPod connected directly to the audio system or headphones, no errors occur.  I have installed an ASUS Xonar U7 external sound card.  This seems to have improved the overall sound but it has not solved the distortion issue.  The relevant drivers appear to be up to date.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.
After a series of exchanges with Chris M, and performing actions suggested by him that included establishing that the Onboard Audio Controller was disabled & removal of the program REALTEK HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO DRIVER, Chris M's latest reply was:
I do not think that this is a computer hardware issue. The fact that both the Realtek and the 3rd party Xonar both have the issue points to the operating system resource allocation has the problem. You need to repost the issue on the Microsoft Operating System board to get their thoughts and opinions.

On occasion when i boot up im getting a red cross on my volume control in the tray and hovering over it it says the "audio service is not running" but the service is running, i get sound and everything is working fine. Looking at the services i find windows audio service and yep its running fine & set to automatic but there is still the red cross in my tray?

at the moment im having to "restart" this service to get rid of the notification and the red cross but its a pain.

Only happens about 20% of the time.

I have the latest sound drivers.

have done a search but its all about this service failing to start & giving errors etc.

any ideas anyone,

Thx all,

This is a difficult problem for me to put into words, but I am just getting progressively more annoyed as time goes on, so I'll be quick.

Basically, my audio has a tendency to stop working (as in red x over sound icon) at complete random, and despite fixing the supposed "problem" of "audio is too low", it still does this and with seemingly increasing frequency. I have noticed some minor details that happen when this occurs:

1) While inconsistent, it tends to happen right after I open some applications, although this is somewhat random.
2) When it does happen, and I check up the playback devices via right clicking the sound icon, they are completely gone even if the devices are completely plugged in. It's only after I normally click on the icon do they come back after a short period.
3) I check the "Services" and the Windows Audio is off despite the fact that it is automatic. Restarting it only keeps it on for as long as possible until the next random shutoff.
4) It also tends to automatically occur the very moment I log into my account on my computer, so I always end up having to turn it back on.

I am at my wits end here, and I am hoping this place can provide some answers. My computer is a Windows 7 Dell, and I'll try to provide more information if I can.

I AM NOT TECH SAVVY.

I've been having some audio trouble with my Dell Vostro desktop for a month or so. It says audio service not running. If I Turn on dependent services it will shut off when I try to use sound.
What I've TriedSystem Restore (Won't restore)
Turning on all dependent services
Replacing audiosrv.dll with new file from windows restore disk
SFC /scannow (Has a bunch of errors. Will provide cbs.log if needed.

Please help.
Thanks.

A:Windows Audio service is not running.

With all the SFC/scannow errors I would suspect an OS problem.

I think Dell has a "repair my system" option in their recovery. F8 at power on will get you to the Dell restore options.

Hi I have ASUS K52JT with windows 8.1 running since 3 months ago.

Audio speakers have worked fine since this week. At startup it is working but after a while (15-60 min) it eventually stops playing sound while the programs show that they still play.

However the headphones always work well.
If anyone can tell me a way to do it by registry, by a batch file, etc i would be so gratefull.

What have I done?

Reinstalled the drivers of the high definition audio device.
Installed codec pack for 8.1.

I've been running Windows 7 for close to a month now and it's been running flawlessly except until now.

I've been having audio play back problems either from Windows Media Player or on Youtube. The sounds become slurry, distorted, laggy every few seconds. I don't quite understand what's causing the problem.

A:Weird new audio problems running Windows 7

I closed bit-comet and it seems to have no problem now.

However if I'm using any browser it has the same problem, e.g. when i click on a link and it goes to a new page or opening the browser. Pretty much surfing seems to lag/distort any audio being played.

I don't have the problem with other windows applications like browsing through folders or opening/closing them.

Any ideas?

Hey,

I am having two issues, small but irritating; once I boot into Windows, my audio service is not running, it is set to automatic and it needed to be manually started (I have tried reinstalling my audio drivers)

I am also having issues with my network, my connection is "identifying" until I launch an application such as Spotify.

I hope this image can assist you in some way along with an ipconfig /all dump.

First thing I would try would be sfc/scannow to see if any system files have become corrupt.

Click start and type cmd, right click cmd and run as admin. Type into cmd sfc/scannow and enter, looking at your sys specs it wont take long.

I'm running Guitar Rig (amp simulation software) on Windows 7, but whenever the application is open it prevents other Windows applications from accessing the audio output. For example, if I have Guitar Rig open I can't play back an MP3 track. As soon as I close Guitar Rig other applications recover their audio capability.

I have tried disabling the "exclusive control" option for all of my Playback Devices in Windows (then rebooting) but it didn't help.

I have Realtek HD audio, and my Playback Devices are listed as:
Speakers - Behringer USB WDM Audio 2.8.40 (this is the guitar USGB interface)
Speakers (Default Device) - Realtek High Definition Audio
Realtek Digital Output
Realtek Digital Output (Optical)

I'm using the ASIO4ALL driver for the USB guitar interface.

Can anyone tell me how/if I can share audio between Guitar Rig/ASIO4ALL and other Windows applications?

I am expat living in China. Yesterday I suddenly received a message that said "the audio service is not running". It is possible that I have a virus because that day I had briefly listened to a couple of audio files from what I thought was a reputable Chinese learning site. I ran malwarebytes and did an online bitdefender scan, but nothing came up. I tried to do system restore but found out my system restore was not on. I've since turned it on.

My laptop won't shut down--I realized I'd be hibernating it since the updates and went to shut it down and it's just on the blue screen saying it's shutting down forever and I have to manually push the button. When I turn it back on it doesn't give me the option for a safe mode start--so I assume it shut down ok, but in addition my laptop is running SUPER DUPER slow. Any advice? I ran malwarebites and nothing, my McAfee has been acting up as well so not sure if there's a virus issue or if it's the update. Thanks!

I have Windows 7 32-Bit installed onto a Dell Studio 1535 laptop, with an Intel hi-def sound card. The OS recognized the card on boot, but won't let me install the Intel IDT drivers and doesn't recognize the mic port. The sound card is such that the rear output changes to a microphone input when you tell it to through the IDT drivers, and I'm guessing the default drivers don't know how to handle that functionality. When I try to run the Intel drivers from a disc it gives me a "device is not found" error.

Check out my post here & see if this doesn't fix your audio problems...
Doesn't matter the mobo model number or make of computer as the Intel IDT HD chip should be the same regardless & the drivers should still work just fine on your system.

I'm getting issues when trying to use things for audio input. My microphone isn't working, as well as my Digitech RP255 Guitar pedal for recording.

My microphone is plugged into the rear microphone jack, and the pedal is plugged in via USB. Neither are working, which rules out the microphone being broken.

My sound card is SigmaTel High Definition Audio. I have also tried every freakin' sound driver (not literally) on the internets.

Please tell if you need more information.

Okay, let me flat out start with, I can NOT stand to use windows 8.1. I am very familiar with W7 and XP but windows 8 just looks, and feels like it was made for a 9 year old who out grew his tablet.

I have had this machine for about 3 months now.... I honestly do not enjoy using it what-so-ever. Finding anything is a nightmare... I refuse to even acknowledge the existence of the "Start Screen". Infact, the first thing I accomplished is deleting every icon off of it except the desktop icon. I do plan to buy another hard-drive and putting windows 7 on it (W10 does not interest me either). But for the time being I have to deal with the issues present... (Sorry I just had to rant a little, it's been building up since the first time I turned the PC on)

The issues...
Audio lag - The audio lags for EVERYTHING, no matter the program, all audio lags. I have tried reinstalling the drivers, made sure they were all updated, disabled/re-enabled nothing solves the issue. I have found a strange temp work around... If I boot the machine and blast threw everything as quickly as it will allow me and play a video file (no matter the source, WMP, Netflix, ect) The audio will sync and stayed sync, anywhere from a min to till I shutdown (it appears to be random). I've googled searched till my eyes couldn't focus anymore on the screen trying to fix this issue. And honestly I'm tired of looking.. Also, sometimes the audio will make a loud "POP" or static noise for no apparent ... Read more

Hi, My machine recently updated itself to Version 1607, Build 14393.51.  It started showing me the 'No Audio Device Installed on This Computer' error. I assumed it must be the driver or something. So I resintalled it.  Everytime I would try to, it gave me a BSOD with stop code saying ERR_IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO. So I assumed a botched update and accidentally 'Reset' the PC instead of 'Take to an Older Build' Be that as it may, when it came back, it seemed to have the audio working. But then it died after a reboot but it still won't show me the 'No Audio Device Installed on This Computer' error.  Anyway, I installed the driver and it seems to be fine for 2 reboots.  Is this hardware? Is someone else facing this? -Best,Naveed.

I had a pretty severe malware problem a few days ago.. Windows would start up and there would be a bunch of errors about WerFault.exe and NOTHING would run, not a single piece of software. Turned everything off, even a bunch of windows services and removed the malware, but now I can't turn the audio back on. The services show a bunch of different errors.

When I try to turn the service on

'Windows Audio' on Error 1068 Dependency service or group failed to start

'Windows Audio Endpoint Builder' 1722 RPC Server is unavailable

Remote Procedure Call and Locator are both set to automatic and have started alright.
Plug n Play is set to automatic and has started fine.
Multimedia Class Scheduler has started find and set to auto.

Hope someone can help me set this right Thanks for taking the time to read.

Hello and welcome theone mat try running this - you will need to make a bootable disk though Download Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10

You might even try these if you haven't already - just to eliminate stuff
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2

then these - I know you have cleared the malware but these take only a few minutes to so

http://www.superantispyware.com/
http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/
ADW download from bleeping computer delete any rubbish found with the malware scans
(NB If one is running Kaspersky security it may rant about ADW - just ignore it or disable Kaspersky while the ADW is being used)

Hey everyone, so i come home one day and turn on my laptop, i go to play some music and i realize nothing is playing. I look at the speaker icon and it has a white x in a red circle over it. I tried to open the settings but it kept saying "one or more audio services are not running." So i tried enabling "Windows Audio" in the services.msc, but all it says is "Windows could not start the Windows Audio service on Local Computer, Error2: The system cannot find the file specified." So i assumed that there were no output devices that were recognized by my laptop. But then i realized that everyday for the past year I have been listening with the same headphones, so how could this happen out of the blue? I look on skype settings for example, and there are no speakers recognized, (not in the drop down box), and no mic etc. I am really worried, and this has happened before, and the company changed my motherboard. Although now I do not have warranty so i am nervous. I am just so confused as to how this could happen so randomly. Oh and I also tried updating my drivers from dell.support website, and nothing seems to work. Please help if possible, Thanks alot.

PS: please be very specific, because I am alright with computers but the simpler the better, Thanks.

A:The Audio Service is not running, Alienware M14x Windows 7 64-bit

Please fill in your specs for future reference.
First of all, I would recommend trying a system restore to a date before the problem appeared.
If that does not work, try right clicking My computer->Properties->Device Manager and see if there any driver that is showing with an exclamation mark. If so, please post the error code and the Hardware ID that you can find by right clicking the driver, going to Properties->Details and choosing "Hardware IDs" from the dropdown menu.
Also, try going intro Control Panel -> Sound and see if your speakers/headphones are recognized there.

Ok. So I've been running my desktop on Windows XP with no problems for almost a year now. Last night, I decided to reformat and install Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Now, I can't get the audio to work. I have no sound at all. I tried the Foxconn website, none of the sh*t there helps. Either that or they're not working. I'm no computer genius but I'm guessing I need to find a suitable driver for the onboard audio. I tried downloading the latest realtek driver/software but still nothing. I'll appreciate any help or suggestions! Thanks in advance!

Currently, I decided to do a complete wipe of my computer to restore it to it's original state. I have done this on numerous occassions beforehand, but this time I've run into a wall I can't seem to scale. I chose to do a Full System Restore(Destructive). I have the original recovery disk, as well as my own copies. I have removed my additional video card (Nvidia 9500 GT series, though this likely doesn't matter in the slightest), as well as any post market additions outside of a new CD/DVD drive.

The reformatting part will go off without a hitch, and I get put to the setup screen. The setup for the system runs just fine until I reach the part where it tries to install the ATI Video/chipset drivers. At this same point it attempts to open an InstalWizard to finish the setup process, and I get an error of "Error extracting support files: The data is invalid".

Any other needed information can be provided on request.

A:Windows XP: reformatting and running into issues.

Welcome to TSF

Considering you removed the video card I am assuming this system originally came with on-board video. When installing an adapter card such as a video card you would need to disable any on board video to use this addition. Did you re-enable pn board video in the BIOS before attempting to install?

I get crackles and delays in audio (when watching videos online as well as in files offline). I have tried reinstalling drivers and disabling audio enhancements but that hasn't helped. I've tried a tool called LatencyMon and it points to the network drivers. One of the solutions is to set CPU minimum state to 100% (default value is 5%) but obviously this isn't a good solution.

My laptop is Acer Gateway NE56R (Pentium Dual Core B960 CPU, 4GB RAM)
Gateway website does not have drivers beyond Windows 8.1

LatencyMon Report hints towards ndis.sys (network adapter): http://prnt.sc/cj4ymg

UPDATE: It is confirmed that the wifi driver is behind this issue. Disabling the wifi adapter made the audio latency go away, but how do I find the right driver that won't cause this issue?

A:Audio Latency Issues since upgrading to Windows 10

Wi-Fi is a known cause of your problems. We had many posts on our sister Windows 7 and Windows 8 forums of this problem.
I did a Bing search and didn't come up with anything for this specific model, so I don't know if there are later drivers available for the Wi-Fi.

Having a 64 bit OS on only 4GB of RAM could be contributing to the problem. A 64 bit OS requires more memory than a 32 bit, thus less memory is available for other uses. A 32 bit OS would have been more appropriate on a PC such as this.

Hi Guys,
I have a Dell 5548 with a 1080p touch screen, Core i5 5th Gen and 12GB RAM. After the upgrade to windows 10 from windows 8.1 my laptop has been facing numerous issues. The major ones are as follows:
1)The speakers are not working properly. While playing video or music the volume goes from loud to soft at a given volume setting as in its playing at a particular volume then after a few seconds the volume suddenly goes down than again after a few seconds it goes to its original volume and the cycle repeats itself, which is pretty annoying.
2) To make matters worse then earphone/headphone jack is too tight. The pin does go in to a certain degree after which if you apply force there is a cracking sound and seems that it will break if i apply pressure. Eve after that it wont go in.
3)My laptop has Intel's  Real Sense Camera. It works fine as a webcam but its depth and other sensors don"t seem to work. It is detected but in games there is no response from these sensors while the game awaits its response. Likewise I can't even complete the Windows Hello setup where it doesn't move on when it tells me to place my face in the center; I keep placing my face in the center but it deosnt respond from there on.
I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out.
Thank you.

I have three separate problems but I thinking they are related to hardware.

OS: Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium
Computer: Acer Am3100-U3201A
Motherboard: Acer F690GVM
BIOS: Phoenix Tech 6.00 PG (10/10/2007).

I have downloaded and installed all the updated drivers for the components in question and none of them work. Could it be a BIOS/motherboard issue?

The three problems are:

1) NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT
If I enable this, my system hangs at the Windows Start Screen

2) Marvell Yukon 88E8056 ethernet card
Never got it work after trying every solution on the web.

3) RealTek High Definition Audio
"No Audio output device is installed"
Windows was trying to install this as Unimodem Half Duplex Audio Device. After screwing around I manually installed it as the Realtek device.

Since none of these are working I am thinking there is a root cause to all the problems?

Any ideas?

thank you

Hello everybody,
I've been reading no-nonsense feedback on questions over here, that's why I will give it a try.
My problem is the horrible sound that comes out of my M-audio Firewire 410 module connected to a PCI Firewire card. Horrible as in : very silent, metallic sound. It plays the song (wav, mp3,... on iTunes/Winamp/windows media player/...) but very very bad.

The specs of my setup :

Things I tried :
* Enable / Disable onboard sound in the BIOS : no difference.
* if I chose onboard audio, all works fine, but I need the in & outputs of the M-audio.
* Swap PCI card from slot 1 to slot 2 : no difference
* M-audio support suggested to check IRQ of the FW card :
- Bios sets it to 11 (= the same as the native IDE controller)
- Windows moves it to 19 where it is alone on the IRQ.
It all makes no difference the card still produces a horrible sound.

Things on my todolist :
* try the same setup with a 32-bit OS. (I still have an XP 32-bit somewhere)

Things I wonder :

I disabled many of the services, and I made sure not disable the necessary ones (i.e, Windows Audio.) I restarted my computer and there was a red circle with a white "X" over the audio icon. Above the bar said "Detecting Problems" and then "Scanning for hardware changes...". This went on for about 10 seconds. After this, the window changed. In the center of the window was "Problems found-Hardware changes might not have been detected".

What you don't want to hear. Most of these have required a reinstall. I've seen quite a few and users have tried many things but in the end it took a reinstall.

Whatever reinstall procedure Toshiba has, would be my recommendation. Back up your user data (pictures, music, word files, etc) to some other media before the recovery as that is deleted on most recoveries.

On Sunday I turned off the Mac to move it to a different room and when I turned it back on I was not able to see it from any of the other computers on the network... I can see both of the PC's under finder on the mac but I cannot see the mac from the PC's... I did not change any settings on any of the computers it just decided to stop working. I called apple support about this thinking it must be a Lion issue but they went through every setting with me and found that it was set up correctly. I then called Microsoft and they did the same thing although I will admit that they were pretty clueless compared to the people at Apple. I am at my wits end here can anyone help me?

Hey guys,

I'm using Windows 10 64-bit Version 1607 and it got an automatic cumulative update yesterday KB3200970. The board is Maximus VII Formula with an i7 4790K and 16Gb RAM and an ASUS Strix GTX 1080.

Following the update, I am having significant issues with my audio drivers. I still have sound in audio and video files, however, I no longer hear usual windows sounds like plugging in or removing a device, getting notifications or when increasing or decreasing volume using the volume button in the taskbar. Some audio in games is not played either, like menu sounds in DOOM and Dishonored 2.

I uninstalled the drivers and all audio returned to normal with the default windows drivers. I tried to reinstall the latest drivers available on the ASUS support site (Realtek Audio Audio:GM:V6.0.1.7829_GM_StudioSound_SonicSuite_2.2 .25_SonicRadar_2.1.3301.0 ) because I use Sonic Studio quite a bit and the audio issues came back.

I also tried to get the latest drivers available from Realtek's site and from here Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version - Windows 10 Forums

If I use the windows default drivers, everything works fine, but obviously I cannot use any enhanced features like room correction with those.

If I separate front and rear panels in options and use headphones, everything works for the headphones, but same issues remain for the 5.1 surround system.

I was using Open Broadcaster Software to live stream, and since my mic has always had issues with noise (cheap mic on headset), I decided to try out a plugin for OBS called Microphone DSP, which claimed it would remove noise in real time and had auto-gain features. It worked, but distorted audio horribly, so I uninstalled the plugin, but what it does remained on my computer. Even with the plugin gone and two clean installs of Windows 10, I'm still having audio issues. Audio quality is back to where it was pre-plugin, but it has noise removal in everything now with random, loud noise spikes, and auto gain. Is it possible that the plugin changed something in the core Windows files that could cause this, and the files wouldn't be wiped during a clean Windows install? It happens on both the front and rear mic ports, as well as the mic port on the DAC that came with my motherboard. I'm planning on getting an XLR mic soon, and would like these audio issues gone since I won't have to deal with noise on the new mic, nor do I need auto-gain or random noise spikes. (Note: I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for my DAC and on-board audio about 5 times each, with no changes.)

This problem I have been trying to figure out for a while now and I can't really find out how to solve it. The problem I have been having is that there are minor audio pops and crackles with my computer and I first used google to help. It said something about DPC Latency and I downloaded a program called latencymon. According to the program, my system is having trouble processing real-time audio and I might experience dropouts. The program also says that the biggest problem is the interrupts, which reach about 6,000us while browsing and sometimes idle on the desktop. I tried updating drivers such as the Realtek Ethernet driver, the Realtek sound drivers, and also the Renasas usb drivers along with the nvidia drivers. I have no idea what to do to solve this does anyone have any ideas?

A:Audio Popping Issues on Windows 7 x64 Home Premium

First, what model Dell? (Model and number, e.g. Insprion 530S).

This problem can have many different causes. There is no "one fix" for the problem. If you scan through back postings on this forum section you will find many threads on the problem.

The Latency Mon program can help, however it floods you with information and hard to digest it all and figure out what the cause is.

Is your problem only with on-line audio? Or does ALL audio have the problem? Do you have a wired internet connection or wireless? (wi fi is one known cause). If its on-line does it do it with Internet Explorer? (since you list Chrome as your browser).

Have always had the problem? or did it work OK initially?

More questions than I can provide answers.

So, I recently updated to Windows 10 - partially feel like that was a mistake now, but oh well. Most of the issues I have with it are just connected to it having different design than windows 7, and me being overly used to Win 7, so I guess it'll wear off.

There is, however, one severe problem I noticed when trying to play back some AVI files of CoD gameplay I had stored on an external harddrive. They played in Windows Media Player, but showed no video; in fact, it instead showed the musical note that is characteristic for when you play back files in WMB that are audio only. However, the audio from the AVI file still played. I know for a fact that the files aren't corrupt or so because they are playable on another computer of mine which runs on Windows 7, and they used to work just fine on this computer too before I installed Windows 10, *at least as far as I remember.*

And it's not just in WMP you only get the audio. Also when importing the files into Vegas pro 12 and After Effects CS6 I get a black video preview that only plays back audio.

And here comes the final crux: it's just some AVI files that you can't see the video of. After some testing and thinking I figured out that the files i couldn't play were AVI files recorded with Fraps, and the playable ones were recorded with Dxtory.

I'd love some thoughts on this if anyone has ideas, and if you want more info on some area in order to maybe understand what the problem might be, just tell me. Anything to get help! >... Read more

Audio issues Can windows 10 Handle it. My son wishes to become an overnight start on youtube by uploading videos of him playing on his electronic drums. The plan is to feed the backing track which is currently being played by Microsoft groove as audio out into the drum module from the only jack output the computer has. He then bangs his drums. The audio out for both the backing track and the drums comes out of his head set. I was going to T this off back into the computer and feed this back into the computers only jack (currently used for Audio out) Configure the Jack to be a head set which should be more than capable of duplex audio, and then use the intergrated web cam to film it. But no matter how I configure it nothing works. Please note I am also using 4 pole 3.5mm Jacks so no excuse there. The only audio that its being picked up is that of the integrated mic on the PC. How can I set the PCs Video to take its audio from the ?headset? I can?t find the settings for the camera. I?ve had windows 10 for a while now and we have still not bonded Everything is hardwork! Any advice would be greatly received

After upgrading the OS to Windows (10.0.14393), Conexant driver failed. No Device Installed. Also in Device Manager, Intel High Definition Audio is missing a driver. Can't find a copy (bundeled with another driver...video maybe). Anyway, fixed the Conexant driver problem by totally uninstalling the Conexant ISST Audio application and re-installing. My only problem now is that audio does not go out to a HDTV plugged into the HDMI port. Video goes well, but no sound. HDMI does not show in Audio Devices as well. Any ideas? HDMI port tied to the Intel High Definition Audio device? The Device ID's for the Intel HD Audio device are: INTELAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8086&DEV_2809&SUBSYS_80860101&REV_1000INTELAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8086&DEV_2809&SUBSYS_80860101 Thanks Ed ski

A:Audio Driver issues after Windows 10 Anniversary Update

Hi: Yes, that is the Intel HD audio device that needs the Intel graphics driver reinstalled. I suggest this option to install the driver since sometimes simply reinstalling the Intel graphics driver doesn't work. Download and install this free file utility.  The 2nd file on the list is for 64 bit. http://www.7-zip.org/ After you install 7-Zip, download and save, but do not run this Intel graphics driver from your notebook's support page. This package provides the Intel video drivers, control panel and display audio driver for supported notebook models running a supported operating system. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp75501-76000/sp75984.exe After you download the graphics driver file, right click on it and select 7-zip from the list. Have 7-Zip Extract to:  and let it extract the file into its folder name (sp75984). When that is done, go to the device manager and click on the problem Intel HDMI audio device needing the driver. Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder 7-Zip created. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and the driver should install. Then restart the PC, and you should be able to get both audio and video from the HDMI connection.

Hello All!!

I have seen similar threads here but my problem is slightly different.
I have ASUS P4S8X-MX which have built in audio of Realtek AC'97 .
I am using Windows XP SP2 for quite a time and everything was fine unless i tried to install an updated driver for my sound. After updating, i got Code 10 error , device cannot start.
I uninstalled the drivers, Restart my PC and then installed my previous version of drivers.
Everything was fine and i can see volume icon in task bar. But when i tried playing an audio file there wasn't any sound. I clicked volume icon to raise it but it was disabled.
I double click it to open Mixer .. there are only 3 options (normally it use to have lot ..wave,speaker,etc..) Now it has only Wave , SW Synth, CD Player.. and No recording device.

I did try re-installing the drivers again and again but no LUCK..

I tried using Drivers Sweeper to remove the tracks .. doing that in Safe Mode and then again Installed Old drivers. It all go well but in the end its same situation with sound disabled.

I don't want to reinstall my Windows , is there any way to fix it ?

One thing i noticed is every time I install drivers the sound manager shows up at task bar but in moments it disappears while the soundman.exe is running in Processes and I can't find it in Control Panel as well (where it use to be) .

Its been 8 hours since I am struggling with that. But No LUCK!

Hi muazzam

Is best to upgrade to SP3 (if only because MS has dropped support for SP2) but can start, for now, looking at your problem while you continue running with SP2

Let's start with these initial steps
1) List any Problem Devices

Make sure all your devices are connected and powered on
Click Start->Run, enter: msinfo32. Click the + sign next to Components to expand it
Click Problem Devices. Anything appear?
If yes, click on it, Ctrl-A to select all, Ctrl-C to copy it, Ctrl-V to paste into next post
2) Generate and attach a DirectX report

click Start->Run, enter dxdiag
Notice progress in lower left window corner
When done, click Save Information button and save to your Desktop
In TechSpot, use the paper clip icon to attach the report. (If you don't see icon you may need to first click Go Advanced)
3) If there were no Problem Devices (step 1 above) then also check on your Windows Audio service if Status=Started and StartupType=Automatic

I'll have a look and we can take it from there

It started with just youtube and firefox not working properly. For example I could not pause a video or adjust the volume. I tried Chrome but that was worse, I could not even go to a new tab. VLC Media player refused to pause. Cubase 6 was not showing any recent projects and refused to peform various functions.

I went to check if I had a virus but by then my computer was to unresponsive to even press 'scan'

What has happened? and any ideas on how to fix it?

EDIT: Everything works fine in Safe Mode

A:Issues with software, windows unresponsive/not running correctly

Probably a virus or trojan.

Install malwarebytes antimalware in safe mode with networking, update and scan.
Then use Dr web, cureit to scan for viruses.

That's basically what i do, but no guarantee though. Better prepare for complete installation again :/

Ok, so I do promise that I have searched and could not find a solution to this problem.

Recently my laptop screen was stepped on ( :( ). So, only portions of the top right quadrant of the screen was still in working condition. Using this spare real estate, I set up a secondary monitor to work as my primary. While this worked for a week, the rest of the screen that was broken finally gave out and became unusable.

Here is the problem: After one restart, Vista stopped deciding it wanted to use the secondary monitor as my primary, and nothing is showing up on either screens now. How would I, without any visual display, setup the secondary to the primary again?

Thanks!

Hi,
I have owned my Toshiba Satellite P875 for a couple of years which came pre-Installed with Windows 8.1.
I have had no issues with this machine to date and has been totally reliable until just recently following the upgrading from Win 8 to Windows 10.
I keep losing wireless connection when only a couple of metres away from my Virgin super Hub.
Cable Connected has no issues at all.
When I troubleshoot I receive a message in Windows Network Diagnostics
The Default Gateway is Not Available, it does however automatically fix but this occurs very frequently now like every few minutes which has become tedious to say the least.
I have downloaded the latest drivers for Windows 10 and have also downloaded the Intel driver tool, in device manager it suggests I have the latest software driver and is working ok but clearly it is not
I have deleted the drivers and rebooted to be faced again with the same issues.

I have just checked on the Toshiba website of capability issues with Windows 10 and my Laptop is not mentioned as being compatible,
I have also noticed I cannot my backlit keys are no longer working despite using the FN Z function and also the Eco feature button is not working, is this all to do with the Upgrade I wonder.

Please any help or links would be most gratefully received if indeed this issue can be corrected, thank you in advance.

Hi,
I'm having quite a few issues with my computer and just don't know enough to know what to do or where to start with what the root problem(s) are...or if this is even the right board to post to! I just want my computer to a point where it runs well again and to keep it that way.

Here's some info about my computer. I hope it's helpful to start with:
Windows Vista
Dell Vostro VOSTRO_200
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E7200 @2.53 GHz
3 GB RAM
32-bit Operating System

Here are the biggest issues lately:

1. On startup, the fan runs really hard and fast...almost like an engine revving up. It also does it if the computer has gone to sleep after inactivity. If the screen is left on, the computer will wake itself back up after a period of time and the fan will rev like it does on startup. This doesn't seem like a good thing...but I have no clue what to do.

2. Recently, I've been deleting old photos and files that aren't needed and using Slim Cleaner+ to clean up my computer to help it run better. Today, something happened after I did a run with the program and I started getting messages every time I navigated to a new page in firefox that said Adobe Flash 11.8 r800 (or something like it) has stopped working. I updated my firefox and went to reboot my system...and it didn't want to reboot. I had to hit ctl/alt/del to get to the option to go to boot system and managed to get my computer going that way.

3. I'm not sure if this is an internet problem or a computer problem...our browser h... Read more

after search and can't find anything. I've tried changing the resolution, changing the size of the icons and text, etc. Usually the windows that are having these problems are ones that cannot be resized or resizing them do not help with text issues. I simply
cannot get anything to work. Any help at all would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have an Acer Aspire Laptop 57362-4790 running Win 7 with all the latest updates. Audio is an Intel(R) High Definition Audio HDMI, and Realteck HDMI.

Because I had no headphone output with the computer connected to my TV via the HDMI out I ran the Windows audio trouble shooter. I got a messaage "non standard audio detected" and Windows did something. Now my headphone jack works, but I have no audio on the TV from the HDMI connection.

I've checked both the Intel and Realtime audio controlers and gotten the message, "Device working properly."

I've searched both Intel and Realtime for new drivers and gotten the message, "Best driver already installed."

Opening sound, clicking on playback, clicking on configure, selecting speaker and clicking on test gives test tones out of both the left and right speakers on the TV. Going back to the web, still no sound!

Does anyone have any idea what Windows did and more importantly how do I undo it and get sound back on the TV through the HDMI connection?

Thanks for looking at this story, and any help you can give.

Use the System Restore function and restore the PC back to a date PRIOR to whatever you did. That should return it to how it was configured. System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools. System Restore will not delete any user data or emails.

Hello, Dell Community. I've recently bought a headset with a mic. I also have a headset splitter because theres only one audio jack and there was two cables one for mic and one for audio. Now when I plug it in a pop up comes up asking me the following. Is the device you just plugged into the jack Headphones, Headset, Skullcandy headset, etc. I select headset now the purpose that I bought this headset was recording with the mic in the headset so now I go to record and my dell laptop doesn't pick up the mic and it doesn't play audio. So I go to recording devices and I right click and press show disabled devices and disconnected devices and my headset doesnt show up on the list! So I go through and uninstall and install the drives which also doesn't work I've tried only using the mic plugin. and It doesn't detect it I need help! Okay, so I've got two problems here. The first is that my windows keeps randomly deciding not to be genuine. I run notepad or any other default windows program and a box comes up saying windows isn't genuine and gives me a link to go make my windows genuine. I go to the link, (which takes me to a microsoft web page, I don't remember the exact url, but when it happens again, I'll make sure to note it down so I can post it here, if you want) and I download a windows activator program thingy, which then makes my windows genuine again and all's well. I've noticed that, when the problem happens, if I pull up system information (windows key + pause) I see that windows activation status is not available and my windows key is not available, but once I run the activator, then they both go back to normal. It's happened about 4 times, now. It doesn't cause any major issues for me, but it does worry me greatly.

My second problem is really confusing and I've asked a few other computer savvy people I know for help, but none seem to know what's going on. When I try to run any games in windowed mode, or even when I watch movies, I get triangular shapes on the screen. The shapes seems to be sections of the video that lag behind by a frame or two. There's nothing visually there, it's just that sections of the screen seem to lag behind, kind of like when you try to run a game on a really old system that can barely handle it, but the games don'... FOUND A FREEWARE (yes actually free, no ******** oh it's freeware until you've downloaded it then you find you actually need to pay to unlock the features you wanted) UTILITY CALLED MEDIACODER THAT DID WHAT I NEEDED.

Hi. Well basically what I was wanting to do was take a sample of some of the audio from a video file playing in Windows Media player to use in some music I'm making. (Purely for my own amusement, not for sale, no copyright infringement etc etc).

I have Ableton 5.02 and an M-Audio Firewire 1814 external soundcard. I foolish assumed there would be a setting in Ableton to simply monitor the output from WMP and record it direct. Apparently there is no such setting which surprises me somewhat. You can only monitor inputs from the soundcard. In effect I would be wanting to select the output of the soundcard to actually record what I'm hearing playing WMP on my speakers. Ableton told me it was only possibly with an extremely complicated workaround.

I did try simply plugging jack leads from the output to one of the inputs but the sound is distorted in a metallic manner. I have no idea why that is so what I decided was there has to be a simple way to left segments of audio from a video file.

I can't think how you can do it with WMP, so is there a simple piece of shareware/freeware I can use to take audio from video files? I don't want the whole of the audio I simply want a portion of it, preferably as a .WAV file of good quality. Surely ... Read more

After having my motherboard, graphics card and RAM replaced due to a power surge, I have been experiencing high audio latency, along with very poor sound quality which includes static noise, crackling. The sound is similar to that of an untuned radio.
http://puu.sh/c5qgz/e691d9d8c7.png
The sound quality is decent when I am running limited audio programs, but when I run multiple (Such as Skype + Youtube), the sound quality starts to become poor.
The sound quality also becomes poor quite frequently when I am only running one audio program.\

I've already tried going into Device manager and disabling/reenabling drivers to see if they were the cause of the problem.
I've also tried updating the drivers to the latest version.

Not really sure what to do now, help is appreciated gratefully.

I have run into an incredibly odd issue with my inspiron n17110 while running windows 10. It appears that the dell drivers are malfunctioning, and the result is not pretty.

The graphic driver is not the issue. Dell's software is. I have eliminated both graphic cards from the cause.
What got me to point the finger at dell is that when I press the physical button on the top right of the base that turns off the screen (sort of like a "force to screensaver") is pressed and then the screen woken up, the issue is immediately resolved. I'm fairly disappointing that a device that is less that 4 years old has still not had a critical issue like this resolved yet.
I guess my question is, has anyone else experienced this, and is there any way to fix it for the time being? Thanks!

Unfortunately, Dell does not have any Windows 10 drivers available for this computer. It has not been tested for the Windows 10 upgrade. You may have issues with the hardware on this computer if you have no Windows 10 drivers.

First of all here are my specs:

Computer is an E-Machines T2642.
Motherboard: IM845GV
OS: Windows XP Home Edition (service pack 1)

Now my problem. About 4 days ago my sound stopped working on my computer. I checked the device manager and found multimedia audio controller listed as an other device with a question mark next to it. The properties lists the device as not having any drivers installed. I have tryed installing and rolling backthe drivers to no effect.

Another problem that I seem to have is my network connections shows a local area connection as having a network cable unpluged, with the device name being Realtek RTL8139/810X Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC. I have tryed unintalling the realtek device and adding it again, but when I do it seems to generate the unknown multimedia audio controller which I suspect is the source of my problem.

So any advice on what exactly I need to do to fix this and get the sound back? At this point I suspect that the "sound card" on my motherboard may be fried. Help would be appricaited.

I've spent several hours doing searches trying to find a reason for the way drive letters have been assigned on a new system I put together today. Every system I have ever configured (starting in the late 80's) with 2 internal drives the first partition on the boot drive is C: and first partition on the second drive is D:. The remaining partitions on the boot drive get the next series of letters, E:, F: and G:, and the remaining partitions on the second drive go from there, H: and I. The Windows 7 Pro system I'm typing this on is exactly like that.

Today I put together a new system and installed Windows 7 Home on it. I was amazed to find the drive letters assigned differently. The first partition on the boot drive is still C: and the first partition on the second drive is D:, but E: is assigned to the second partition on the second drive (it only has 2 partitions). The remaining partitions on the boot drive are F:, G:, H: and I:.

The only thing that is obviously different on the new system is that the boot drive is a Velociraptor SATA3 drive and the second drive is a Seagate SATA2 drive. The boot drive is connected to the SATA3 port and the other drive is conencted to the SATA2 port.

I'm trying to figure out what's up with the drive letters before I install any software in partitions that might get a different letter if I correct whatever has caused this.

Thanks in advance for any ideas on why this has happened.

A:Why would Windows 7 assign drive letters oddly on an internal drive?

Not sure why this happened, but I think if you simply reshuffle the drive letters to match what you're used to (i.e. disk 0 having C: E: F: G: and disk 1 having D: H: I: ) - use Disk Management for this - then you should be safe and not have to worry about unexpected letter changes.
I believe that once you (re)assign drive letters, Windows saves them in the registry such that they become fixed to the respective disks/partitions for good.

Hi guys,

Can you guys help me? It has been bugging me for sometime now. I reformatted my PC after it crashed (XP keeps on freezing) and installed all the necessary motherboard drivers after. The installation went smoothly and the device manager show no conflicting drivers or whatsoever.

However, i noticed that i am hearing no audio. I checked the following:

Control Panel -> Sounds & Audio Devices
- Speaker Settings is grayed out (meaning unclickable)
- Device Volume is grayed out

- In the Sounds tab, even the 'play' button is grayed out.
- In the Audio tab, both Sound playback and Sound recording are showing no options.

I tried some troubleshooting by going to Accessories -> Entertainment -> Volume Control and tried to place the volume icon into the task manager, it is saying that i have no audio hardware installed.

I visited the MSI & RealTek sites, searched, downloaded and installed the latest SiS 745 and AC97 drivers but to no avail. I am also installing the chipset driver first before the audio drivers. Onboard audio is also enabled in BIOS. I also even tried reformatting twice. The problem still persists.

It appears I'm not the only one with this issue. I am using an Inspiron 17R 5737 laptop that came with Windows 8.1. After upgrading to Windows 10, I've noticed a couple of things: 1. In Dell audio, my Waves Maxx Audio 4 works, but I am missing all of my presets in the EQ and I am actually not able to adjust ANY settings at all. I have called Dell 3 times now, resulting in a total of 6 hours on the phone, where they had me uninstall and then download and reinstall the Realtek audio driver. After downloading and installing 2 times, the EQ presets came back, but I am still unable to do anything else within the program. I have noticed, after the first time, that updating the driver causes the error with Maxx Audio. So the second time I reinstalled, I did NOT update the driver, but I am still unable to make any changes in the program. This is very frustrating because I record music and mix the final product with my laptop.
The 2nd issue I have will have to be directed in a different forum, as it has to do with my laptop not waking from sleep mode.
Any help with the audio issue would be very much appreciated.

A:Issues with Maxx Audio after Windows 10 "upgrade"

I solved this issue by first downloading the latest Realtek audio drivers from Dell. For my XPS15/M3800 it was Realtek ALC3661 Audio Codec version 6.0.1.7525,A00. This is a 325MB download. After installing this and going through 1 or 2 reboots, my Dell Audio Sound Manager was restored but all MaxxAudio presets were missing. To fix this, I opened the Device Manager-->Sound, Video, and Game Controllers the right-clicked Realtek High Definition Audio and selected Update Driver Software. I chose to search automatically for updates. Windows found an updated version 6.0.1.7628, installed it, rebooted, and then my presets were restored.

Computer has not been working good for several weeks. It keeps shutting down and giving me a blue screen of death. Some days it will happen within minutes of logging in other times it won't happen for several hours or if I am lucky a day or two.  Right now I am logged under safe mode because it has been happening so much. Would appreciate some help with this issue. Thanks!!

I have to make this as brief as possible, since I'm forced to use my phone to post this and I don't have a lot of data usage.

Basically put, something unusual happened to my PC. It started yesterday as of this post, the internet would at completely random intervals disable completely, then cheekily fix itself before I finish running the network diagnostic to see what is the issue.

I tolerated with this for a while, I assumed it was a simple case of replacing old cabling. I was using an Ethernet cable, so i simply went to replace the old one, but it didn't fix the problem. I then asked my internet service provider if anything is wrong on their end, they say it is working fine, and that if i can switch devices to see if the problem is my computer (i'm living alone with no spare devices lying about, so that's a bust). Tried everything I could think of. Restarting the computer, updating my files, system restore (not necessarily in that order), then it came to a head when for some reason a good portion of my programs refused to even open, including Google Chrome so I had to resort to writing this on my phone.

I do hope my computer hasn't died or anything, it's not even used longer than two years. Even some kind of help would be appreciated.
Oh, and given everyone is posting specs, i'm using an Acer laptop, specifically Aspire V5-572G, with all the components as it is, running Windows 8 64-bit.

Have you tried refreshing it? A lot of times that helps.

I have attached a screenshot. As I can't exactly explain it. It also just done it here. Everything was fine then I started to type then some things started to look odd. You have to view the full size to see what I mean. For the first picture it is the truth angers part. And for the next part it is the title and a few other places. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

A:Words on page sometimes appear oddly.

As further info it only appears at the top of the pages. I think it may have something to do with my graphics card but I am not sure. Is it possible that this could be copied to the graphics card section if it does? I have a AMD Radeon card.

Recently, both Firefox and Internet Explorer have been giving me problems. Sites like Gmail, YouTube, IGN, and others simply aren't working, and random text is being displayed whenever I try and visit them, like this:

ok here's an odd one for you guys, and ill explain why im trying to do this after. Im trying to connect to the internet through a macbook pro to my pc; And can't quite get it to work, obviously. If you guys know of some way to do it, this would be great. My PC is is a self built with windows xp home installed on it.

Now for why I'm doing it this way. My roommate is being an @ss, and won't let me connect an ethernet cord to the router, but is allowing me to stay on the wireless, either because he forgot I could or doesnt care. Either way I need to get online via my pc, and cannot get a wireless card til monday when my school loan check hits my mailbox.

Again If you guys could help out I'd Love it, if not I guess im SOL.

Thanx
Gnawbie

A:Connecting to internet oddly

Bridge the connections in the PC, and leave the MAC settings at their defaults. Just select the two network connections by holding Ctrl and clicking them, right click on them and select Bridge.

Hi,

i have inherited the support on an SBS03 server with exchange03 on. It all seems to be working fine for basic tasks, but we were running into some oddities when setting up an iphone for one of the users.

the emails and domain are hosted by another company which offer a control panel to manage domains and emails. In there in the (customer domain) section they have about 10 pop3 accounts set up, although 7 of those 10 forward on to one of the other addresses in the list which is [email protected]. I am assuming that exchange has receipt of the [email protected] address and then forwards them through to the Active Directory user, although in AD there are about 20 users with different mail accounts!

I must admit to not having seen exchange set up quite like that before!

my questions are:

1. is this still a standard exchange server setup? (ie forwarded emails all to one account) and where then is the [email protected] address picked up on the exchange server

2. is there a way to find what the remote log on details are for the server / exchange? ie. remote server name etc

Hi I'm running WinXP Home Edition SP2, HP Pavilion AMD Athlon 3200, IE v6.

Lately my PC have been running quite slow on everything, ie; opening up programs and going online. Some pop-ups were being blocked by IE pop-up blocking settings and others are just simply a pain.

Run and deleted items found by Trend Micro Anti-Spyware v3 and my PCcillin Internet Security can't find any virus. I've ran the Ad-Aware SE Pro and it found 5 critical objects and it was successfully removed. I ran Ewido and it found 22 items from medium to mostly high risk items and it was also successfully cleaned.

Still running slow though, and I'm curious as to what else bugging this system. I looked at the msconfig and see what else are running there's a bunch of things, but I know some are needed and some just not sure of.

Please if anyone can help me check my HJT log, I would very much appreciate any help, to help clarify my confusion as to what else ails this PC.
