A:3 Week old gaming computer is freezing

Sounds like it could be an overheating problem even though it's a new PC.  Are all the fans running, including the CPU and graphics card fans?  Do you have a program installed such as PC Wizard 2014 or Speedfan that you can use to monitor temps, fan speeds, and voltage outputs?

So I received this iBuyPower gaming PC on Monday, May 14 and for the first two days, it worked well and didn't freeze once. Then starting on the third day, it started freezing randomly every 10-15 minutes. Then on the fourth and fifth days (Thursday and Friday, 17 and 18), it ran smoothly again. Again, on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, it froze nonstop. For some reason, it stopped freezing Sunday afternoon after I rearranged the ram sticks (2 GBx4) until tonight (Monday, May 21: approximately 7:17 PM)

My PC seems to freeze randomly no matter what I'm doing, whether it be gaming or searching the web or opening "My Computer." I've already ran Windows Memory Diagnostic (no errors), SeaTools for Windows (no errors), Windows Update (everything up to date), and checked my hard drive temperature (avg. 30 degrees C) and GPU temperature (idle avg. 35 degrees C, Diablo 3 avg. 55 degrees C). Hey everyone!

First I appreciate any help and time taken to look this over!

My computer has recently started freezing up in the past couple of days and I wouldn't doubt there's malware slipping under my radar. Before I post my Hijackthis log, I tried running NOD32 in safe mode and it didn't find anything, although a lot of the files it tries to read are locked. I then tried Trend Micro House Call in safe mode with networking and it found something called "CRYPT EX" something or another. I didn't get a chance to delete it though cuz right then my computer froze. When I tried running it again I got a message saying "An error occurred while trying to transfer data from the Internet! Do you want Trend Micro HouseCall to try again transfering the required data?", and when I select "Yes" that que doesn't change. Even when I hit "cancel" it still says that message and I have to quit IE altogether from Task Manager. And that brings me today, where I've been rebooting my computer once or twice every ten minutes for the past hour.

Here's my HJT log:

My computer keeps freezing. It has been running slow at odd times recently too. I undated to the patest firefox and it will not run (not sure if that is related)Here is my Hyjack This, then DDS.txtI am new here so if I don't post the right information or if I post information I shouldn't please tell me. I am running win xp pro with sp 3, a Shuttle XPC with AMD 64, I keep it updated and updated today. The freezing is just random, but started today frequently. Sporadically when online everything slows down too. When I run RootRepeal it freezes immediatly.I see some errors in Event Viewer but don't get information I can use from MS on these. I have these copied in a text file. The errors happen when bootedit some additional info that might help:It barely started today, after a couple incomplete starts, a start last known good config, finally a chkdsk ran and it started. chrome is running very slow. when firefox would not start I uninstalled, and tried to find everything not uninstalled to remove. I removed a lot of temp files in my docs & settings to make sure. re-installing did not get it to run. Hi there,
I've posted occasionally before and you've been very helpful.

I've posted now over in the Windows XP thread and they suggested I have you guys check things out - since perhaps this is a malware issue. my computer keeps freezing - sometimes when we're not active on it, sometimes when we are, sometimes 3 minutes after startup, sometimes a half hour after startup. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. I'm starting to clean up files, delete some stuff, etc. but wanted to check with you folks as well.

HOWEVER, I went to run the scans you asked for - and the gmer scan kept freezing up my computer - I believe when it was almost completed - it hadn't found much when it did - - it went to a blue screen saying it had to stop and shut down basically - luckily, it restarted fine, but I didn't want to try it again.

Attached are the two other documents from the other scan.

Thank you!
Randi

Hello,

I have tried to follow the 5 steps as much as my computer will let me.

All of these problems just started. Everything was fine on Friday, shut it down for weekend and when I came back on Sunday it had gone loco. Here is what is happening:

-It is freezing up during very simple tasks. EX: refuses to load msn messenger or aol instant messenger, refuses to load internet explorer, freezes when scrolling through PDF documents, etc. etc.

I tried to do a system restore but yielded no results. AVG Free edition found a trojan named dropper.small and was unable to heal it so I placed it in the vault. Ewido anti-spyware found several spywares and all were healed successfully.

I ran the DSS and have attached the main log and the extra logfile it gave me.

I am a Pastor and Seminary Student with many important things on this computer. I am also getting married soon and cannot afford to replace this machine. PLEASE HELP!!

I am going to give you as much info that I am able
I am pot sure how/if it all relates but here it is
Also not sure if I am in the right forum but I thought I would start here
Thank you
The quick version – A synopsis of what happened
My screen went black one day and I had a techie “restore” it
It seemed to work okay but was freezing up regularly and now is freezing up several times a day
It seems to be be most affected when I have stuff on the clipboard and/or I am online
I brought it back to him and he says it seems fine

I multitask and always seem to have many windows opened simultaneously and it has never happened before. Early on when I multitasked it seemed to freeze up but now it is freezing all the time with only one program opened but I am always online
ACTIONS TAKEN
I have done the following
Defragged, checked for viruses (see below) and then he did the same and also checked for corrupted sectors
I do have loads of pictures on the computer so I thought that maybe there was too little memory but there is over 50% of memory remaining

MALWARE FOUND
After this blackout happened I had one of the those pop ups where the simulated window screen flashes that you have several threats etc and says you need to download this to get rid of the threats etc
The second time it popped up I wrote down the file name in the Run this file pop-up and found it to be malware
I purchased PREVX 3.0 to remove it but the computer is still freezing

Hello,

I've recently been having issues where my computer will stop responding at random times. I haven't yet noticed a pattern, but the most recent issue happened when I opened Facebook. If I'm playing music when the freeze happens, it starts sounding creepy and machine-like, with high-pitched noises and other strange sounds. Other windows stop responding and I can't use my computer for about 30 seconds. I'm not sure if this is Malware related or not. I haven't been to any malicious websites or downloaded anything, but I don't know what else the problem could be.

Also, I'm running Windows 7 on an HP dm4x series laptop. I believe drivers are up to date and updates are installed to Windows.

Thanks!

Below are HJT and DDS logs. I will upload a GMER log when I can, but the scan was taking a long time.

Hello everyone,

I have an ACER Aspire one laptop windows xp. the other day I got some type of virus on my computer while looking at a movie trailer on a gossip site. so far I've done two restores to it and ran two malware/adware removals but it keeps freezing up. after i ran the malware it said I had 7 viruses and they were removed. i thought that it was good. but a few minutes later my screen froze again and everything including the time clock freezes. I have to remove the battery to turn the computer off. can you please tell me what is wrong with my computer and what i need to do to get rid of it? I've only had the computer for 9 months.

thanks for your help

I am experiencing a very slow computer. Pages hang and freeze while scrolling or switching tabs, I get a "beep" if I scroll too fast. Everything is terribly slow. I regularly scan with MalwareBytes, ComboFix, and SpyBot. I always use "rkill" before a scan and everything seems to regularly come back clean. So far, this problem has lasted for maybe a months or two. Please help! I have enclosed my text file logs. Thank you.

Whenever I boot up a thing saying this pops up...

Validation failed for C:/WINNT/System32/VSINIT.DLL You are probably missing a necessary root certificate. Above it where you can click X to exit out it says C:/Program Files/Zone Labs/ZoneAlarm/Zclient.exe.

Also I'm having a big problem with my internet too. My internet will work, I can download music, sign on AIM etc. but I can't get on IE. It will let me on for about 5 min and then the browser no longer loads the page up. then a thing will pop up saying "The operation timed out when attempting to contact <instert website here"

Few days ago my computer started randomly rebooting or locking up with no prior warning. I realize this could be a hardware issue, but the symptoms started right after I ran into some malware infections. This issue and symptoms are very similar to this one here hxxp://www.techsupportforum.com/security-center/virus-trojan-spyware-help/hijackthis-log-help-inactive/132058-computer-randomly-rebooting.html. I made a new thread concerning this problem because on a reply it was stated that the fix was computer specific. I removed some of the spyware with help of ad-aware and avg antivirus, but I doubt I had them all removed.

ZoneAlarm firewall and AVG Anti-Virus are on constantly and I try to keep my Windows update up to date all the time.

Following is a list of the programs I deleted. I got suspicious when ZoneAlarm warned me that they are trying to access internet (it was the first time they asked for rights), so I googled for them and removed them:

w.exe C:\Windows\system32\w.exe

first179.exe C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\first179.exe (removed by AVG Anti-Virus after a full system scan)

frmwrk32.exe C:\Windows\system32\frmwrk32.exe

One symptom of infection was that at first my desktop icon titles lost their transparency/drop shadow and were replaced by a "blue box" behind them. Later on, my whole desktop background became blue. I managed to "fix" this, so unfortunately I don't have a screenshot of it.

The guys at Techguys.org would not answer my thread, and it's been 5 days. I thought I was being patient, but I guess not. I provided a link to that thread where I posted to myself for the better part of a week.http://forums.techguy.org/security/572093-...over-stuff.html- It started with a Smithfraud-C variant. I ran the Smitfraudfix to no avail. It probably removed something, but whatever. I finally took care of it by deleting the dll associated with it, which allowed Spybot to remove it. So no more of the usual false security notification popups, or fake anti-malware associated with Smitfraud. I determined the dll by looking at the Spybot "recovery" log, I think.- But my homepage was still being changed, and my searches were still redirected, So I had HJT fix some bad BHOs, a DNS hijack 017 entry, and I ran Vundofix. It seemed to fix my browser, and remove the Vundo byxxuvv.dll. The BHOs I think were CWS components, and I still need to run CWShredder. I also did the usual disable restore, then reenable etc.BUT: Some things still don't seem right. Boot-ups are taking a longer than normal, and I'm still hearing the same quiet "beep", while windows loads up, that I began hearing when the Smitfraud stuff was going off the hook (not the POST beep). I associated this beep with the malware starting up, and I continue to do so.Basically, I did all I could by myself[i]. Hello,
This is my second time posting on these forums. I had great help last time for my problem and really appreciated it. Now i'm back with another malware, i tried to fix it myself with no avail.

My current problem has to do with "System Security." I think i got it while browsing a web site from a pop-up, i thought i had avoided it, but then System Security kept popping up, scanning my computer and saying i was infected with "Lsas.Blaster.Keyloger." My desktop background was also changed to a black and red wallpaper saying something about my computer being infected and that i need to fix it.

I tried fixing the problem by scanning with ad-aware and registry booster, i used both in safety mode because every time i start the computer in normal mode it either freezes or restarts moments after it starts loading up the desktop. In safety mode i also deleted:

c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\13998594.exe

and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\13998594

as well as the system security folder(s)

I checked:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
for
13998594
but i didnt find it in there nor any other weird sequences of numbers.

So now, I am stuck with no idea what to do next because:
1) I can't start my computer in normal mode.
2) I can't run Malware bytes, Spybot Search and Destroy, and ComboFix in Safety Mode.

As of now, my computer is still freezing up or restarting as soon as it starts up in nor... Read more

Hello, I am brand new to this forum. I am a gamer and my computer is infected with a virus. I had no noticeable issues until one day I tried starting up my computer from sleep mode and it froze.
At the time I got this virus I had not downloaded anything recently and I only have visited websites that I have been used to visiting for a while now. Now it's been one week of trying to fix it myself and I need help. Here are the details:

I have....Windows Vista 64 bit. Computer is a Dell XPS.

Problems from Day 1 of this virus

Computer locks up on shutdown
Computer locks up when trying to scan with anti-virus software in normal mode
Computer locks up sometime after start up / Unable to run outside of safe mode
A [Paladin] window pops up in the bottom tray of my desktop and then vanishes a second later. It does not appear in my list of programs
Explore.exe constantly rising in memory upon start up (has since been fixed? It averages out at about 28k)
All my system restore points wiped
Adwcleaner was somehow removed? (I was initially unable to reinstall it but have been able to recently)
Several corrupted files that resulted in a massive stream of error messages on start up. I have been able to repair most of these. (Presumably, at least. I don't get anymore error messages now.) (Some of the error messages contained: propys.dll , wer.dll , ODBC32.dll)

What I have done so far:

Malwarebytes is up to date and after several scans has turned up noth... Read more

Many of the tools we use in this forum are not capable of detecting (repairing/removing) all malware variants so more advanced tools are needed to investigate. I downloaded a piece of youtube/video downloader software form the Softopedia website and then tried to remove it later. One was a huge clunky piece of crap that didn't end up working but that kept asking for permissions from Comodo Firewall as I tried to get it to work
A week or two later after I tried to uninstall the programs within a few days later I started noticing that Firefox started to freeze. i though it was internet slowdown of the websites or google maps.
I then found it hard to click on the start menu and other parts of software on windows. It stated to totally freeze up until I couldn't use the mouse to click.
I tried to do a restore point and it wouldn't work. It blocked/erased the restore points up to only a few days before. It also started blocking Avast. I was only able to get a restore point from my last back up ...in May. that seemed to work after 2 days of trying different things and different malware programs
It seemed like like it worked and I removed all the antivirus and firewall and put in new one and continued using the computer. IT felt that there was still something going on as it the computer sounded weird as if its struggling. It seemed like everything was fine and I using it but I kept trying different anti malware programs.

I tried the Hitman pro and no dice. Seems like I can still get to My Documents though and there is stuff there I need. Is it safe to download that info to a flash drive? When I try and boot from the Flash drive it doesn't work but I can boot up normally, ICE just takes over, so no internet. I guess I can just trash this computer if I can get my data off My documents. Running Windows XP.

Hi there,my name is Marius and I will assist you with your malware related problems. Before we move on, please read the following points carefully. First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding. Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one. If you have any problems while following my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem. Do not run any other scans without instruction or add/remove software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me. Post all logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts. If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed. Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean. My first language is not english. So please do not use slang or idioms. It could be hard for me to read. Is Windows 7 . . . - x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? (x64) - the original installed OS on the system? (Original) - an OEM or full retail version? (OEM) - OEM = came pre-installed on system - Full Retail = you purchased it from retailer - What is the age of system (hardware)? (4 Months) - What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) (4 Months, have not re-installed)

Have Vostro 200 tower. We shut down computer week ago. Yesterday when I tried to turn on power the computer would not start. The green light on the tower's back is a steady green but there are no sounds of life beyond that. Computer is approximately 4 years old. Called local repair and they said it was the power source inside-means nothing to me. They wanted $60 labor plus $40 for part-I passed. Any ideas for getting me up & running or is it time to replace unit? Thanks so much!:

A:Turned off computer week ago-now won't start-help!

It might be a bad power supply of some sort.It could also be as simple as a bad a/c plug.It could also be the motherboard.I would get a second opinion from a computer repair place that you trust before doing anything.I just had to replace a ram module on a dell vostro 220 tower. But then again you would of heard beeps and the power on switch would be flashing amber like mine did.If its the board its not going to be cheap to replace.

Laptop was and is still running quite smooth, but for the last week, XP takes a while longer to boot, and when the antivirus, sound and internet connection icons are done loading on the tray, the computer blinks, going black for 2 seconds.... which is new, never done that before.

Might not be anything, not sure. The browser is not redirecting me, no strange pop up message or anything, but when I Tried and go scan my computer in safe mode, the computer kept turning itself off on safe mode.

So in the past week or so I've noticed a lot more lag than usual on my computer. According to ping estimates from ventrilo, WoW and speedtest, they are never the same number recently. Speedtest.net has shown that about 10 minutes ago it showed I was at 20 mb/s download which is usual, but as i'm typing this I did another test and it showed about 6 mb/s.

Overall the computer has been drastically slower and my friend suggested that I remove one of my 3 ram sticks. At the time it seemed to do the trick, but it was only temporary. I've switched the sticks in and out in different slots but no positive progress has been achieved. Now posting in these forums for assistance as I'm unsure of what to do, and wonder if it's a virus .

The sticky post said to post my hijackthis and DDS as well as attach my 'attach' so here it goes.

Hello,

I've just returned from a weeks holiday and I tried to turn my computer on but it fails to do so.

I left my computer as I normally do. I use it everyday usually, but returned to find it not working. The red light on the front of my case is on, indicating that there is power to the machine.

I opened my case and pressed the power button to see if anything happened. I noticed that my fan moved for half a second when I pressed the power button, but that is it.

I have unplugged the 24 pin and 4 pin cables that were plugged into my motherboard and plugged them back in.

Ive taken out the battery on the motherboard to restart the CMOS (I think it's called that) and put it back in. Doesn't work.

I have tested the computer's power cable with my monitor and that turns it on. I've tested the wall socket with a lamp, and the lamp works.

Any help please?!

Here's my spec.

I left for a week (the entirety of that time my computer was turned off) and now that i have come back none of my games work properly (minecraft has extremely low fps, as with team fortress 2, both of which performed excpetionally before) and now netflix cant stream videos. This problem i find to be the most odd for when i going to netflix any video runs smoothly for a few moments then after about 10 seconds of video my CPU runs up to 100% at which point the video lags and the audio gos in and out. The strange thing is if i view any other kind of video such on youtube or anywhere else the video runs just fine and doesn't eat up my processing power.

Ive tried defragging my hard drive, updating all drivers (they were all up to date), going through all startup programs and services but nothing seems to have changed. I have no idea why this is happening and it is extremely frustrating!

Here are my system specs:
OS:Windows Vistax64 Home premium
Processor: Intel Core Duo T8100 2.10GHz
RAM: 2 GB
Video: ATI mobility radeon HD 3870

Windows XP Pro......Hi, my computer has been acting schizo for about a week. I am sure I have some kind of (disease) in it working. First noticed difficulty with internet connection - thought it was my isp. Next I noticed I could not send emails through Outlook 2003. Again thought my isp, except my husband was not having any problem (on same isp). The next clue was I could not type any message and the cursor is gone in Outlook. I can receive and read messages. I have AVAST free version constantly running and IOBIT Security. I have run both programs with no findings. I decided to try to restore to another day. That is when my next clue came along. When I try to restore, I get a blank calender! I have run Malwarebytes and HijackThis and I guess because I don't know what I am looking for I came up with nothing. My last clue was trying to open some puzzles I downloaded months ago, they are self exe. They will not exe at all. I hope someone can help me. I really don't want to have to reformat. I have lots of good "stuff" (my husband calls it junk) that I want to keep and also have some Church stuff I have to keep or remember how to reproduce. Just tell me what you need and I will comply.

Sincere Appreciation,
mizzma

Well I am not a mod but I'd be happy to see what I can do to help you. I looked at your other post and it said you had a Combofix log. Apparently the post was moved by a mod and there's no Combofix log in it anywhere. You don't really want to run Combofix unless specifically told to by a mod or admin here. Do you have another computer with which you can get Malwarebytes downloaded and then either burned to a CD? If so then you can get them at the links below. Download Link 1Download Link 2You will want to burn this to a CD. CD installation instructions: 1. Insert the CD2. Go to Start --> My Computer --> look for CD/DVD Drive (usually listed under the Devices with Removable Storage section) --> double click on the drive to open the contents of the CD. 3. Look for the install file for Malwarebytes (mbam-setup.exe), double clilck to run it (for Windows Vista please right click and select Run as Administrator). This should launch the install; if you have a problem then try saving the file to the desktop, rename it and then try launching it again. For instructions with screenshots, please refer to the How to use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Guide. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be aske... Okay,
I'll tell you what I know (which isn't much!) Yesterday our notebook computer was working fine. We have had it for only 2 weeks! Today when we tried to turn it on nothing happened! The screen remained blank. There are two lights on the computer that were flashing it looked like at square with an "a" in it and the second one had the "down arrow" After about 10-15 seconds of doing that, everything just quits! If you need more information please let me know, and I will try and give it to you!

The notebook is a Dell Inspiron E1405

I've done the memtest already and passed it.

Checked computer temps with speedfan; they're all cool:
System: 35C

Core 0-3: 37C.

I haven't done ANY overclocking and probably wont.

Updated my bios to the latest one.

The latest dump in the zip is the one where I turned off automatic restart to see the BSOD and read the error. The other two were the ones where I didn't know what had happened since it was too fast for me. The latest dump was when I was playing bioshock, the others where when I was just surfing the internet.

I was looking around for similar problems to mine and It kind of made me think it was a video card driver issue associated with ATi. So this might not be the right spot to post this but yeah.

I have never experienced this symptom before: exactly one week ago, after reinstalling everything, as if timed, my computer crashed again after one week of use.

Here is my system makeup Quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz, P5N-E SLI, with two SLI-ed nVIDIA 8600GT, 4GB RAM Corsair CM2x1064-6400C4 (4-4-4-12), 500GB SATA WD Caviar under WinXP 32bit.

After a about one week (of stability) the system started crashing and become unstable to the point where it would reset (blue screen) every 5min.

Updated the BIOS & reinstalled everything under WinXP 64bit in a second partition (basically left WinXP32bit in one partition with dual boot) and exactly one week thereafter the same symptoms are now happening.

Could it be my RAM as a week ago when I started to get blue screens at one point after resetting itself a couple of times the PC started issuing 20 sec long beeps without restarting. I removed the RAM and had it reseated. Also under the latest BIOS I had it set to 4-4-4-12 for RAM and slowed it down from 800Mhz to 677Mhz.

I now have the feeling that my HDD is at the source of the problem with a bad sector.

Anyone had this kind of symptom http://images.techguy.org/icon/icon6.gif
Cool?

Any feedback is extremely appreciated!
Cheers!
Chris.

Hi All, I hope I am posting in the right place....it's been a while.

I recently went on a vacation to Kauai. I live on Oahu so asked my cousin to watch our place while we were gone. I am now back and for the last several days I have noticed that something is definitely wrong with my laptop. Here are my laptop specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Intel Quad Core i7-3840QM CPU 2.8GHz
32 GB RAM
500 GB Hard Drive

What is happening is that it seems like something is running in the background which is taking up all of my CPU and RAM. I've gone through the active processes and stopped anything that looked suspicious but it still did the same thing. Typically my computer is lightning fast, but now it seems to be having difficulty with running, say Photoshop CS6 or even browsing images on my hdd.

I have ran the updated Malwarebytes in both regular and safe mode with networking but it found nothing, same goes for Windows Defender.

I asked my cousin if he had visited any porn sites but he said he didn't......which I think he is lying because he had cleared the cache and temp files.

Also, we had an unauthorized credit card purchase on Amazon which happened a couple of days ago while I was back.......I am not sure if it is related but it makes me think that someone is receiving my info whenever I connect to the net.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Courtney

Now, I don't normally intervene on malware issues but I can tell you that the above (alone) would prompt me to do a clean install ASAP. Sometimes it takes many days to fully remove a total malware infection, and many times thereafter, you are left with remnant damage that must be repaired, and that could take many additional days. Unfortunately, while all this repair is in progress, you could still be subject to more privacy invasions. I wouldn't fool around with this if I were you.

Hello everyone,

I have a computer that is acting as a server on my home LAN. It has a lot of drives and serves media to my other computers as well as stores some back up stuff. It has been having unexpected shut downs and I need to start to trouble shoot why. It never gives me a BSOD, however I only connect to it via TightVNC. I have created a zip file of the SF diagnostic tool.

Can someone take a look at the dump files? I can get more info, but I just need to know what to give you to help crack why it is doing this.

Thanks

There's the problem of transferring the data from my old hard drive to new hard drive (I don't have a CD burner). Before I started getting nervous and realizing that there's internet and other stuff depending on if I do it right, my method of doing this was to hook the old one up as a slave. Now, I don't know. SO...

1.) This is a 2-parter. First off, as someone who's put RAM and installed the DSL Ethernet card into the computer, do you think I'm fit for the slave method if I just research the procedure (hoping you can give the link)? If not, is there a safer method of transfer that I can pursue on my own?

2.) My cousin has offered to do this for me. He's a lot better at this than me, but I still want to try. If there isn't a real safe way to do this, or my fear kicks in, I'll send it to him. Do any of you guys know of a free program that gets rid of data from my hard drive for good? I know that the recycle bin thing isn't cutting it, and I want a fresh start on this computer. Please don't get into what I mean; if you really want to know, it's partly an embarrassment issue. Just recommend or say no.

I have this strange problem going on with my computer: once a week my browser, google chrome, redirects to a random page.  Sometimes it's a "your computer has a virus on it" page, and sometimes it's a "install the latest updates to flash that we are downloading for you right now without your permission" page.  It only seems to happen on certain pages (deviantart, tumblr, etc.) and only if I leave that page up on my tab and leave it idle for an amount of time.  I keep using various scans and they all come up empty (except for RogueKiller, but that's apparently a false positive).  Is there something going on with my computer or do I just have some bad luck when it comes to browsing the web?Edit: Moved topic from Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware, and Privacy Software to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Hello,

Iam new and I am sorry to give as little information, but when the BSOD arrive, I'm not at my computer.
Since November 29 is the 4th BSOD.
I have not installed new applications except Windows updates.

Yesterday I wanted to transfer files from my computer to a USB hard drive, and the hard drive was not recognized by the system.
The computer crashed but the BSOD has not appeared.
I rebooted.
I'm not sure there is a link between these incidents

The last BSOD happened during the night, and I have found it this morning
The identification is the same, the 4 times:

BCCode: 1000007e
BCP1: FFFFFFFFC0000005

BCP4: FFFFF88003749050
OS Version: 6_1_7601
Service Pack: 1_0

I read the instructions
I don't find any topics on the same issue.
I update the Dm log zip file in my topic

I am ready to give any information or test you need to solve this issue

Thank you for your help

Hi sevenforums,

Was wondering if you could be of any assistance. I'm a gamer, have had the same computer for a few years and all has been well. I know my setup is a little outdated but I havent had any issues until this last week.

I play WoW mostly and I used to be able to run multiple versions of the game (3 or 4) and I would have no issue and stick at 60 fps for the most part. Something happened last week sometime and now when I open 1 client I am at 60 fps, 2 clients 40 fps, and 3+ is unplayable. When I have 3 clients open my CPU usage is sitting at 80-85%.

Trying to think of everything I can, I ran disk cleanup, both of my anti virus/spyware softwares, opened up my computer and cleaned out all the crap, and still having the same issue.

just wondering if you guys think it's possible to go back to the way it was or it's just time to upgrade my computer. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I kind of suck at computer management, don't have any backups to restore to

Hi,

Last Tuesday my computer installed KB2901126 and KB2898869 both security updates for micorsoft .NET Framework4.5.1.

I use Windows 7 with SP1 and both 32 bit and 64. It is a Dell Computer FWIW

After installing those updated my computer froze on the Windows is shutting down screen.  I also froze once after logging in when my computer booted up in the morning.  It has frozen on me several times since and there is nothing I can do to shut it down except press the power button.

I checked my update history and the KB2901126 is listed three times and the KB2898869 is listed once: however the latter is kisted and once of the important updates that need to be installed.  This afternoon I did try and Repair .NET Framework 4.5.1 and it says it repaired successfully.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

So, I bought and set up my new computer a week ago a HP Pavilion p6204y. I used my already owned 2.1 speaker system that I used on my old computer. Everything was working great.

Last night, I noticed something odd with my speakers; each time I opened a new window a different high pitched sound would emanate from it. I had no clue what was causing it so I shut down the computer, unplugged all the wires possible, replaced them just as they were, and restarted the computer. Problem solved, no more high pitched noises.

Then I realized that NO noises were coming from them at all, all I could hear was a slight static noise when the speakers were turned to full volume.

I decided to investigate and found that my speakers were not even being recognized as being in my computer.

After searching (and reading through) several forums, I came across HP's support site for audio problems and did every single suggestion on the page. Each resulted in no improvement whatsoever, though now the playback devices has an added option (which is still of no use)

I am positive it is not the speakers themselves as plugging them straight into my zune or xbox results in perfect performance, and would really like to find a solution soon for this eight day old computer.

A:New computer windows 7, sound stopped working in a week

You mention you did everything that needed to be done, can you be more specific? The drivers come to mind right off the bat! If you are using older speakers this may be a problem with your new Windows 7 computer. It has nothing to do with the speakers, you will want to check for your sound card driver: Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly.

My computer has developed a very annoying BSOD problem recently and I am unable to pinpoint what I might have done to cause this

? Windows 7 Professional
? x64
? Vista Home Premium x32
? Full retail version
? 27 months
? October 2009 (Win 7 release)
? Intel Q6600
? His/ATI HD 5670
? Motherboard : As supplied - Dell XPS 420
? Power Supply : As supplied - Dell XPS 420

These BSOD were very rare then started to get more regular. Usually fairly soon after restart. Another odd thing also started recently which I guess is probably realted - during boot and shutdown there is a very long period of about 5-10 minutes when nothing seems to be happening then all of a sudden the process continues.

Hi Everyone:

I'm new here and I was hoping one of the experts here could help. Woke up this morning to a bluescreen on my 2 week old Windows XP machine (was left running overnight). Message on screen stated
KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR
along with:
STOP 0x00000077 (0xC0000056, 0xC0000056, 0x00000000x 0x026A9000).

When I try to reboot, the machine will not boot, and says that it cannot find a boot drive (it does seem to see my two dvd drives, but not the hard drive).

Spent 45 minutes on the phone with Dell tech support (very knowledgeable, and flawless English), and the computer is definitely not seeing the drive (tried again to reseat cales, and even changed drive connection on motherboard to a different "port". Tried BIOS changes as well. All a no-go.

Dell is sending me a brand new drive, and I'm hoping and pryaing I can slave this drive to that one and get my data off witout major expense....but not confident at this point.

Any suggestions on how to remedy this incredibly distressing problem (I copied all data from my old machine onto the new machine, and now l no longer have access to the old machine), and I'm really hoping I don't have a dead hard drive with tons of irreplaceable data and photos on it.

As an alternative, if you could provide suggestion on other forums on which I can post regarding this problem, that would be great!

Many thanks in advance for all your help.

Michael

Hi,
Since a week I have been experiencing BSOD randomly and also experiencing system freezes with the cpu usage hitting 100%. Even while I am trying to just delete a file I have experienced BSOD...!!!! Don't know whats happening. Even my Kaspersky antivirus is acting weirdly because earlier I could smoothly perform scans but yesterday when I was trying to scan my laptop it was not smooth as the scan was getting stuck at some point not the same point every time because restarted a couple of times when it was getting stuck. But I did complete a few scans in Safe Mode so I am confident I am not infected with a Virus. Do I need to go into the background of the problems with my laptop ? Because 3 months back I changed my motherboard because of the ATI card failure and went from DDR2 to DDR3 motherboard even back then I used to get BSOD but with atisys. error. But this time its different.

Thanks for Support

Hello mouzam, The BSOD is caused by Klif Mini-Filter fre_wnet_x86 (Kaspersky).

Uninstall Kaspersky using Kaspersky Removal Tool. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.
Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

Free up the startup.
Click on the Start button
Type ?msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the ?Startup? tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus and the touchpad driver, SynTPEnh.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.

Got the Anti-virus soft virus more then a couple of weeks ago and was pretty sure I got it all. One of the things it did was attack my Hotmail account and send emails out to everyone in my contact list and my girlfriend got the (something) essentials 2010. I will post about that later on if I have problems. I was going to use the Hirens 10.2 boot disk and see if I could finish it off. I received an email from her with a couple of pictures of the kids. I opened one but not the other. The problem is she didn?t send me the email. Anyway I have used various spy-ware and malware removal tools as suggested from this very helpful forum and have the logs if you want to see them. So I am hoping you can take a look at my logs and see if you see any discrepancies. Thinking I need to reinstall Avast but not sure. I have used the basics and quarantined quit a bit of trojans and others. I have used Malwarebytes (Which I used first and didn't completely remove Anti-virus Soft.) SuperAntiSpyware, HyjackThis, Spybot, RootKitBuster, (I wasn't sure how interpret the log and what to do) SpyWareBuster, Combofix, a-squared Free, (Wish I could delete a2squared.exe from my start-up list) Dr.Web, (I had a warning on Combofix about a possible Varuit but it didn't find one) Norman Malware Cleaner, CCleaner, ATF Cleaner, Ran scans with Trend Micro Housecall and Avast. I think that?s it. I have the logs if you wish to see them.-------------------------------------------DDS (Ver_09-12-01.01) -... Read more

A week ago everything was running fine 3,4 days ago i notice that it is making much more noise than it should. It seems that it is CPU's fan's noise. Most probably dust is responsible for this.there is a lot of dust inside my CPU. This may hamper hardware badly(as i have seen in some websites). What should i do? can i solve this by my self or i need to go to computer repair shop.
one argument that this sound is not of fan is that, If it is sound of fan then it should start blowing very fast with noise after opening computer for long time since it blows when processor warms. But one can say that fan is not in well working state so that's why it is making this much sound, After all these are my arguments. I may wrong. what you think is possible reason for this problem.
thanks to all those who reply.

A:why my computer's fan making large noise at start up time? A week

For waht amount of time is it load? Lots of Motherboards start up with the fan at full speed until the CPU temperature can be evaluated. However, that is for a very brief period of time.

If you have lots of dust in the heat sink cooling fins, then it may take a while for the processor temp to stabilize. Best to blow the air out of the fins.

Like the title says, my friend got a half week old computer and sometimes when booting he gets random black screens. (My another not so experienced friend assembled it because i was too busy.)

When that happens he has to force computer to shutdown.

Also when these random black screens occur the usb devices wont turn on.
One thing i noticed when he get black screens is things like dvd tray will open.(So it?s not most likely cpu related.)

He has to start machine couple of times to get system working proberly.
Most common scenario when this all happen is cold boot after night etc.

A:Half week old computer random black screens when booting.

Download an application called "bluescreenview". Use this to retrieve the bug codes that are dumped after the BSOD. Post the results back, or look the codes up yourself. I would take this one step at a time. The black screen and the blue screen are most likely related. When the black screen appears, does it hang, or is it intermittent?

I recently built my first PC three days ago...
Specs:
i7 bloomfield 960 processor
4x4 vengeance ram
crosair hx850 PSU
evga x58 ftw3 mobo
hd 6870 radeon graphics xfx

When I first installed windows it started to work just fine but I soon noticed that it would randomly freeze every 15-30 minutes of use, but not on a particular program or anything. I assumed it was drivers so I installed the latest drivers for my GPU and MOBO and keyboard. It seemed fine again until it started crashing again. I ran a GPU burn test and a CPU burn test it passed both... (I tried runing memtest86+ but it froze at like 12%) Then I tried fixing the registry so I downloaded ccleaner and fixed the registry problems. Freezes continued. I finally decided to re install windows so I did and the problems still continued. I am at a loss of what to do and can't think of anything else.

any advice would be appreciated if not I will bring to a repair shop and have them sort it out.

A:Newly built computer random freezing and freezing on starting windows

Hello Skytri and welcome to Seven Forums. My usual disclaimer: I'm not at expert at anything.

I'm wondering if there isn't a RAM problem. Perhaps one of the sticks wasn't seated properly, etc. You could open Resource Monitor > Memory tab and make sure all RAM is being recognized. Make sure Installed = 16384MB and the Available + Cached + Hardware Reserved is the same amount. (You are using 16GB total, correct?)

Resource Monitor

If Memtest freezes you could try a quick check for a bad RAM module. Install one stick in Slot # 1 (or whichever slot the mobo manual says to use.) Run the computer to test for freezes. Test each of the remaining sticks one at a time. If all 4 sticks work you might want to go through these troubleshooting guides. They are time consuming but many people have been able to isolate their computer problems.

Hello,

I'm going to post two different scenarios that happens when my computer needs a hard restart
My computer freezes completely (literally no movement on the screen or anything, it's not slow it's frozen). And an extremely loud buzzing sound comes out of my headphones or speakers. The same thing as above except without the loud buzzing noise.

I saw that this happened to someone else who had both the speakers and the headphones plugged in at the same time. However, scenario #2 just happened to me 10 minutes ago even though I only had my headphones plugged in.

I built this computer six months ago and it's the first computer I've ever built. I assume it's a driver issue but I can't really pinpoint the problem since no BSOD appears on the screen and I have no higher computer knowledge.

I'm attaching the zip file required.

Thanks,

A:Random Computer Freezing - Need to hard restart after freezing No BSOD

Wow, this sounds like the same thing that happened to a friend of mine when his hard drive was failing. Replaced the drive and the freezes went away. Even the buzzing noise.

Also you may need to look at what drivers you may have just install/updated.

Hoping you don't have any failing hardware "Motherboard, video card, etc". Those are expensive

Hello, I'm having an issue with my computer.

My computer has started to restart/freeze up on me. The thing is, it has graphical issues once it freezes/tries to reboot. I get all these lines through the screen, graphical glitches when trying to go through the BIOS, etc. The computer isn't too slow, it isn't acting strange, the only thing that is wrong is the obvious freezing/restarting with graphical lines and glitches once it freezes.

My video card has been going out for a long time(I share a computer with a few people and they seem to think the video card is ok, but I have always seen small glitches in graphics here and there), so I am thinking maybe this might be a problem, given the graphical glitches, the horizontal lines going through the screen once it freezes.

When it hits the BIOS, it sometimes shows these same lines with the screen going mostly black.

System specs are:

CPU - Core 2 Duo, speed I don't remember.

Video Card - Geforce 7900 GT 512mb

Ram - 2GB DDR2

Motherboard - Asus, P5N-E SLI

I got this computer a few years back and I am not one to keep updated with specs or talk about them often, so I have forgotten the speed of the CPU and I do not know if I am missing information for you guys.

Solutions I have tried:

Overheating - I used air to filter out all dust/dirt that might be there to harm the computer, I have plenty of fans in there, etc.

Any and all help will be appreciated, Thank you.

A:Solved: Computer Freezing/freezing/graphical glitchs

If you're getting graphical 'glitches' while in bios, that's usually a good sign that your graphics card is having issues - however, I have seen this happen with faulty ram. I'd recommend reseating the cards (ensure your computer is off and unplugged whilst doing so) and see if that helps

A:Computer Freezing; Slowing Down. But mostly freezing. I have my HiJackThis! Log File.

I don't see anything in your log or your description of your problem to come to the conclusion that your problem is malware related. When there is malware present there will always be other internet related symptoms like popups or a browser hijack etc...

I will advise you to uninstall Microsoft Anti-Spyware as the version you have is very old and no longer supported. It in now called Windows Defender.

Here are some routine maintenance practices that you should do on a regular basis to keep your machine running efficiently. Go through this now and see if it helps:

Disk Cleanup:

http://www.theeldergeek.com/disk_cleanup_utility.htm

Defrag your HD:

http://artsweb.bham.ac.uk/artsit/Info/Guides/GoodPractice/defrag-win2kxp.htm

Run chkdsk:

To use Chkdsk, click Start and My Computer. Right-click the hard drive you want to check, and click Properties. Select the Tools tab and click Check Now. Check both boxes. Click Start. You'll get a message that the computer must be rebooted to run a complete check. Click Yes and reboot. Chkdsk will take awhile, so run it when you don't need to use the computer for something else.

Remove unnecessary startups

This should be done through the System Configuration Utility. Go to Start > Run and type in msconfig.
Click OK or hit the Enter key.

Click on the "Startup" tab and remove the check by the items that you have determined are unnecessary. Click "Apply" then "Close"

You will be prompted to ... Read more

I bought an XPS 8900 for Christmas - I work from home and teach online - computer engineering and databases no less.
So I now have an 850$ boat anchor on my hands.  Hard drive died a week ago - Dell sent onsite tech to replace.  Guy took 5 minutes, said You'll be fine. Thing died in about 10 minutes, saying "Windows could not complete the installation."   Rinse and repeat - second hard drive installed today - Guy took 5 minutes, said "You'll be fine."  Thing died again after 5-10 minutes.  "Windows could not complete the installation."
The first failure, Dell supervisor in India (surprise, surprise), said they would replace my computer - well I guess Dell allows their supervisors to lie through their teeth.   After FOUR HOURS ON THE PHONE after the second drive failure with Dell (guess where folks ???) the tech person finally threw up their hands - they could not figure out what was going on.
I am now told to JUST PUT IT IN A BOX and send it to the address I'm supposed to receive in an email.  They will Repair it AND SEND IT BACK TO ME.  This company and their tech support is an absolute joke.
I Will NEVER EVER EVER buy another Dell.  Period.

A:(Redirected) Two hard drive failures in a week and Dell refuses to replace the computer - only months old

Still on the phone with Dell - they are refusing to send me print out information on the people I have talked to and what they have promised.  Am waiting on the line (1/2 hour now) to talk to a supervisor.  Will update this discussion as I go along.

Hello all. I'm hoping someone out there can help me figure out what is going on with my laptop. I have a Pansonic Toughbook CF-52 with a Core 2 Duo 8400 and 1 GB RAM. Last week, it started to lag really bad when running ANYTHING. Even if my internet connection is disabled, I still get lag. Programs that once opened up quickly now take quite a bit of time to load. Outlook, Excel, Word, Internet Explorer and even anti-spyware programs are slow in opening. Even going into My Documents, which normally takes only 1 second, now takes 5-10 seconds or longer! I bought this laptop through my employer and I only had McAfee on it. I recently installed Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and it found a Trojan, which I was able to remove easily. I also installed Ad-Aware and it came back with a clean scan. I ran HiJackThis but didn't notice anything that was out of the ordinary, however I could be wrong. I ran the DDS program found here and have attached the appropriate files. I've also attached my HiJackThis Log. I tried running GMER, but it causes my system to crash and reboot. I recently ran chkdsk and it found & fixed a few errors, however this did not fix the problem. If you can provide ANY help with this issue, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, I want to mention that I do not have Administrator access on this computer, however I have had no problems installing, repairing, uninstalling etc. Thanks in advance for your help.DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Colonial ... I don't know what else to say other than my computer has been freezing and firefox has been freezing lately. I called the manufacturer and he said to restore windows to factory settings, so I did that. Things were great for a week or so, but recently my computer has begun freezing again. It happens pretty frequently. Firefox will also freeze when trying to get it to do very little work, like loading two tabs simultaneously, e.g. My AVS found a suspicious file recently and quarantined it, but still, the freezing has continued. Please advise.

And I do not think that I have a Boot CD

Hello cyberbob10 Welcome to The Forums!!Around here they call me Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your malware problems.Very Important --> Please read this post completely, I have spent my time to put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier, faster and smoother for both of us!Please do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at... A:Malware slowing and freezing my pc

Hi there wycats

Thank you for your patience. I will be helping you deal with the issues raised in your log from this point onwards

Before we start jumping into things, here is a quick basic note which I mention to everyone. The fix which I have provided for you is for this computer only, it should not be used on any other computer. Each fix is tailor made for the specific task in hand. If for some reason you have system restore disabled, then please re-enable it before proceeding, an infected restore is better than none. Please read through the fix first and set enough time aside to complete the task in one session. If there is anything you feel needs clarification then please ask - do not guess! Please copy and paste any requested logs into replies rather than add as attachments, this makes it easier for analysis.

Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you within three days this thread will be closed.

Please Subscribe to this Thread to get immediate notification of replies as soon as they are posted. To do this click Thread Tools, then click Subscribe to this Thread. Make sure it is set to Instant notification by email, then click Add Subscription

If this is a computer from a work place then please advise your IT department of the concerning issues before commencing past this point.

Please follow these directions in the order they are set out for you.

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download lin... Read more

A:Freezing after malware removal

The malware cleaning thread is still active:
http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/win64-patched-a-gen.183004/page-2

You need to let the helper finish the cleaning and advise him of any problems you are still having. Once the system is deemed clean, if there is a system problem you need further help with, he will refer you to the correct forum.

A:Slowdown And Freezing Up - Malware?

Welcome to the BleepingComputer HijackThis Logs and Analysis forum Ghostly MuffinMy name is Richie and i'll be helping you to fix your problems. Before we can provide you with any further assistance, you first need to go here and install Service Pack 1a;http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa...p1/default.mspxThis will patch numerous security vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer and the Windows operating system. As your machine stands right now it's exremely vulnerable to infection. You need to get these updates installed first before we can proceed or we?ll both be wasting our time.Do not install Service Pack 2.If you install SP 2 on an infected machine it will cause serious problems within the operating system.Once you've completed the above, post a new Hijackthis log into this topic.

After reading the preparation guide, I decided to make my first post. I ran Spybot and Bitdefender (along with Avast to double-check certain folders). However, I still experience the occasional freezing and/or blue screen from time to time, along with the "serious error" from Windows, and once I also got a video driver error. Hi,I've been having problems with the latest Windows Update for Vista - as soon as the download starts my computer slows to a crawl. Googling suggested that the problem may be some malware.A few weeks ago I was infected with a Google Redirect virus, but thought I had managed to get rid of it (can't remember what program with since I tried a couple, possibly Spybot). I suspect that the current problems may be related.I followed the instructions and generated a DDS log (see below). I tried Gmer but the scan froze part way through. I managed to get it to run in Safe Mode, and the log is attached.Any help would be much appreciated.Cheers,Roy.DDS (Ver_09-12-01.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Roy at 22:57:09.98 on 10/02/2010Internet Explorer: 7.0.6000.16982 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_17Microsoft?
