Q: Laptops acting weird.

Firefox is freezing up on me and IE is takes a long time to react to inputs. I'm thinking I have some sort of infection going on here.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 10:03:48 PM, on 8/3/2009Platform: Windows Vista SP2 (WinNT 6.00.1906)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.18813)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Ink\TabTip32.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager\IAAnotif.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Messenger\msnmsgr.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\DigitalPersona\Bin\DpAgent.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\HpqSRmon.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\Media\TV\TVAgent.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Norton 360\Norton 360\Engine\3.0.0.135\ccSvcHst.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP Wireless Assistant\HPWAMain.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\acrotray.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Linksys\Linksys EasyLink Advisor\Linksys EasyLink Advisor.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Pure Networks Shared\Platform\nmctxth.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTTask.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP wireless Assistant\WiFiMsg.EXEC:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\Shared\HpqToaster.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exeR1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&a...ion&pf=cnnbR1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896R0" target="_blank" class="invilink">http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&a...ion&pf=cnnbR1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&a...ion&pf=cnnbR0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\Windows\SysWOW64\blank.htmR0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName = O1 - Hosts: ::1 localhostO2 - BHO: &Yahoo! Hi! I'm having an issue with my XP. It started Saturday. I was listening to music on my PC when it started to stutter. None of my songs would play! Windows gave me an error message implying that somethings wrong with my sound card/device. I had no audio - even on the internet. YouTube videos wouldn't even play! Then, suddenly my taskbar turned to that "classic windows" theme and multiple of those yellow "Updates are ready!" icons popped up on the taskbar, one after another. I then rebooted my PC and every thing was normal. But last night my "start click" sounded like the "navigation click." Even after rebooting my computer, it still sounded the same. Just as a reminder, AntiVirus did not detect anything during this behavior)I called Microsoft for help. They told me to do a system restore. I did and everything's back to normal. But what caused these problems in the first place? Microsoft wanted to charge me $100 for the advanced scan. But from their advice, they said it's probably an underlying virus and I need to upgrade my antivirus, and not hackers or aging errors. But for some reason - I disagree. I've been through thick and thin with plenty of viruses and never experienced this issue before.

As a side note I've been lately getting these pesky little bugs on the internet:
"Virus or unwanted program 'HTML/ExpKit.Gen3 [virus]'
detected in file 'C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local... Read more

A:Help! PC is Acting Really Weird!

Almost certainly a virus. Which AV software are you running?

Whatever it is, try a different one, one of the free ones (MSE; AVG; Avast; Antivir) and also install and run Malwarebytes (free anti-malware software).

Don't pay Microsoft anything.

Hello, when I click on any streaming video or mpeg files on the internet, I used to get a security window asking me what i wanted to do with the file, I would click open, then a brief download progress bar would complete and WMP 10 would auto open and play the file.

Now WMP 10 just immediately launches when I click on the file and no security box comes up and WMP10 just freezes saying "connecting" and never does.

In fact, if I close everything, and go to WMP from my start..programs I can't get it to launch at all.

I've reinstalled it 2x and have made it default for all types but it is not working.
Ineed help....thanks!!

Hello.. I bought a desktop PC with an XP SP2 OS last July. I havent had any real problems with it since I invested and was assured with an original 2009 KASPERSKY INTERNET SECURITY. But everything started with my AutoCAD acting weird. Then it was my MU torrent downloader, it kept on downloading weird porn files. (i dont download porn, i swear..) Then it was a barrage of other programs like Powerpoint and Photoshop.. I tried to re-install the programs but they all eventually break out. Finally, i sought the help of a friend he told me that i probably have a spyware or an OS problem. But i own a 2009 KASPERSKY INTERNET SECURITY which i update daily.. I just really want to make sure that i have an OS problem before i reformat my system.. Here's my HTLog, any advice from you guys will really be great.. thanks a lot..

My computer was acting extremely strange, it started completely shutting down while i was running games. I got a fatal error sometimes dealing with my IRQ settings not greater or equal to something. So I decided to reformat my computer. Everything went smoothly until the first boot up after i reformatted. The screen went completely black and nothing was happening so I reset the computer and it started up as normal but I realized my RAM was only being detected as 128 MB when my stick is supposed to be 256 MB (which it was running at since last year)
I decided to open it up and try to put it back in thinking maybe it was just loose or something. When I started it up again the process repeat itself. It started at 256 then it froze up then i reset then it became 128, my comp doesnt really have any other problems but I would really like to resolve this problem, any help is truly appreciated.
Thanks

It keeps on turning itself on and off! I don't know whats wrong with it!
It started doing this last night on April 7, 2007.
The last time that it was turned on was about a week ago, and it was only used to type a paper in microsoft word.
Also, the PC's power box was on for the whole day.

Can anyone tell me what are the possible causes for this?
I checked it this morning, and when i turned on the power box of the PC, it started turning on and off again, but this time, the monitor won't show anything.

A:My PC is acting weird.

Since you said its turning itself on, do you mean from a completely powered down state or just restarting? Wake on LAN maybe?

I know a computer will shut itself off if it is overheating so you could check the heatsink fan and make sure there are no dust bunnies on it... I'd blow off all the fans in the computer with air duster for that matter, its just good practice.

You could even have a faulty power supply or motherboard, perhaps a capacitor is busted or leaking... really it can be a number of things the best thing to do is troubleshoot one thing at a time, process of elimination.

just throwing this out there

IE8 will crash and recover tabs continually at NBC.com and USA.com. Some forums will log me in but then ask me to log in immidiatly again and again.

This happens on both Vista machines. One of them was just formatted a few months ago.

I have even tried Disabling all non Microsoft Startup and services from msconfig prior to installing IE8. But that didn't work. I also do use compatibility updates.

Software on both machines:

Avast Antivirus Home
Open Office 3
Spybot Search and Destroy
Brother Printing Software
Firefox 3
CCleaner

Please let me know what I could do to solve the problem, I would be very gratefull.

A:IE 8 acting very weird.

Hello eovercash,

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool from here and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
Right click to run as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will produce a log called (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run from.
Please copy and paste log back here.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please also paste that into your reply.

Hello,

My pc has been acting very weird lately. First of all, the windows update keeps popping up and keeps telling me to install windows xp sp3. Even when i install it and reboot the computer, it pops up again and tells me to install again. So what i did was i went to automatic updates and checked something like search but do not download before notification cuz it kept annoying me too much. Also, when I usually start the computer I see the my pc keeps freezing up and when I went to task manager, svchost.exe was taking up like 70,000 (kb??) memory and was the largest of all processes. I have never had my pc freeze up so much. Finally, my pc just randomly sometimes restarts on its own when I turn the pc on. Like I will log in, the desktop will load and then the pc will restart automatically. Somebody please help me!

Thanks,

Hey guys,

I had CPU-Z on my pc before I reinstalled Vista, so decided to download it again today. Now I must say, I've never seen anything like this on CPU-Z: my CPU clock speed keeps changing: 1004MHz, 1808MHz, 2009MHz, 2210 MHz, 2411MHz... Also the CPU mulitplier, which is supposed to be 12, changes to 5 (So the CPU frequesncy becomes the same as the LDT Bus (HT LINK))... CrystalCPUID shows the normal clock (2,4 GHz), the stock speed, and normal Multi (12)...

Any ideas? I'm going to overclock again after a 2,8 GHz last year, but I'm waiting for my new PSU and better heatsink, coz the stock one's crap, it even overheats (+65?C) on stock frequency when stressed by OCCT...!!

Amplid

A:CPU-Z acting very weird

Hi Amplid,

This is perfectly normal. It is indicating that "Cool 'n' Quiet" ('CnQ'), which is the power saving feature of AMD processors, is working correctly. There is nothing to worry about. When more power is required, this feature will automatically increase the processor speed towards the maximum until the extra power is no longer required. At this point, the processor speed will drop. In other words, 'CnQ' senses the system load and adjusts the speed (and thus the power consumption) of the processor accordingly.

Lately my computer has been doing weird things.. random popups and windows coming from nowhere aswell as a "IEXPLORE.EXE" that I can't seem to get rid of, regardless of the programs I use to kill it (tuneuputilities, winpatrol, task manager). I just recently had Smitfraud, I fixed it supposedly, I hve a report of it aswell as some other scans, I ran them all in normal mode and safe mode and just can't see to shake whatever is going on.. here are the reports see if anything can be done.

Among these scanners I also did Registry Mechanic, Spyware Doctor, and Spybot-S&D.

I've removed a few programs that mysteriously auto downloaded themselves to my computer, my computer security settings are at max and still these things are getting into my pc, I don't know if they were already there or not, I ran all the programs suggested on another previous post for someone else. Adaware SE, Spybot S&D, plus my McAffey and Spyware Cleaner. But I am still experiencing extreme slowness of my browsers. I use Explorer and Firefox browsers and both are almost at a standstill. I have broadband, not sure if thats of any value or not. I recently reinstalled Windows 98 on my computer and before that point everything worked fine. Since then my DVD-ROM acts weird and by weird I mean that it works but when it comes to putting in a DVD or CD that has a auto-start program on it the DVD-ROM doesn't execute the auto-start program on the DVD or CD. You can go into the DVD or CD and work with the file but it just won't execute the auto-start. When trying to activate the auto-start file on the disk manually it states that there was an Error something about the auto-start file being corrupt, however I know this isn't the case because the CD will work in my CD-ROM just fine. I've reinstalled Windows 98 again, and tried different drivers for the DVD-ROM to no success, and I can't think of any thing else to do to maybe correct it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So I have ASUS GTX 660, Core i7 (3770), 16gb ram. It was okay for years until yesterday. At some random points my GPU starts to restrict itself in games. It uses less than half of its Core Clock, Memory, voltage. The temperature never goes higher than 34C. And it shows 100% GPU usage and in games now I have like 10-15 fps instead of 40-50 fps. It happens randomly. Like it's just randomly turning on some power save mod or something like that. Never happened before. I don't even know how to google it.

A:GPU is acting weird.

Hello Beatrice I'm ScathEnfys and I'll be helping you with your issue today That's a pretty decent setup you have there! Hello,

If this is the wrong forum, please move to the appropriate one!

I have Windows 7 installed, IE8, Office 2007 etc. Recently I've noticed that the tab key isn't doing what it should be doing - i.e. tabbing between cells in a form, or web page. When you press the tab key, the form appears to lose focus. Shift Tab does not bring focus back to the cell. So if you have a form to fill in, you have to type, click with mouse, type, click with mouse... very annoying!

Any ideas whats happened to the tab key? Its a new PC and new clean keyboard, its only just gone do-lally, and I don't believe its a hardware problem. Its like some setting has come into play from a hotfix.

All other keys are okay.

Advice appreciated.

Brian

Before I start listing my problem, I want to say I have changed the CMOS battery to a brand new one. In fact, I suspect my problem is not due to the CMOS battery, but something else.

Here is my problem:
I recently found out my clock will delay, range from few secs to more than 12 hours. I thought it was the CMOS battery problem, so I bought a new one and replaced it.

Wonderfully, the new battery "seems" corrected the problem, and clock runs normally for about 1 week.....HOWEVER, the problem comes out again!! Clock will delay in random fashion, and in random duration. Sometimes, if I just let the PC idles under W2K, no other program/task running, for about 1 hour, the clock will be delayed by about 30 minutes. Sometimes, the clock runs just fine for a day (either idle or fully utilized by ICQ, 3D games, word processing, web browsing) and time difference is less than a minute. Since this problem happens SO randomly, I get pissed to trace what the source of problem is. Among the above examples, all of them are experienced in same W2K session without any reboot, power-off, logoff/logon. Even I changed the time everytime to the correct one, the problem still happens in random time.

Another example is, suppose the time for now is 10:30pm on the taskbar. Then after I leave my PC for an hour and come back, the taskbar shows not 11:30pm, nor any time between 10:30pm and 11:30pm, but 9:30pm!!! This problem is a rare one though.

I scanned my PC under W2K Safe Mode, by N... Read more

For the last 2 weeks my computer started making me log in. It says that i need to enter a password but I actually don't have to, and instead of having my user side and one for my editing where you have a picture up and you can switch between the two it will only let me go to the side that i use for internet and such. If I ask it to switch to other user it takes me to the login and back to the main users side. what is causing this and how do I correct it. I tried doing a restore and it says I can't restore back to that point. I tried 3 other points and it wouldn't reset to any of them. Thanks in advance for the help.

So about two weeks ago, my computer got infected with the system restore rogue virus. I ran scans with Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, and Microsoft Security Essentials. I also ran tdsskiller. None of the programs detected anything malicious on my computer, even though it was obvious the virus was present (the fake disc error messages, solid black desktop background, hidden programs etc). So in a last ditch effort, I ran the ESET online scanner, and it deleted a few infections. I assumed it must have removed the virus, or at least part of it, since the errors stopped showing up every time I restarted the PC.

HOWEVER, I am really sure that traces of the virus are still on my computer. It continues to be really slow among other things. I want this virus out of my PC COMPLETELY, and by the looks of it, traces of it may be still there. I have no way of confirming, because unfortunately, none of the scanning programs will detect anything. I don't know what to do at this point. Some assistance would be greatly appreciated!

My system is a Windows Vista.

My girlfriend's computer is really acting weird at times. She has a eMachine W3502, XP Home SP3, 160GB HD (Primary), 250GB HD (Secondary), RAM upgrade to 2GB. I am no computer guru by any means and she know less about computers than I do. She has been dealing with using Windows Movie Maker....( she does know more about some of the programs that she uses like Movie Maker and HallMark GreetingCard Maker and the like but relies on me for the more technical part of fixing it when thing act up.) At times when she is doing her movie making.... the computer acts as though it is busy in the background doing something else. Then it will freeze up and not respond to anything. She really gets frustrated very easily when things dont go smoothly. If anyone might be able to help me... I would be eternally grateful. Like I said... I am no computer guru... and I can follow instructions if they are very simple and not real technical. I too easily get frustrated because I am a heart patient with a pretty bad heart and take LOTS of medicine so I get confused at times. i think its a windows vista premium. i think its intel pentium duel core , but its kinda slow. im not really sure what to do since most of the things i've tried doesn't seem to work

oh ya, although internet explorer didn't load. i was able to load Mozilla firefox with no problems
edit: i went into task manager and looked at the processes and found many of the programs and processes i tried to load. it looks likes its there but its not.

Just installed RTM today.

When I try to go into the Start screen, everything looks normal (icons were refreshing). When I move my mouse, all the icons and text disappear, leaving me with the background. Hitting the Start key brings me back to the desktop. When I try to go to the Charms bar, the icons pop out, but when I hover over, they start flickering.

When I switched users out and in (from myself), the UI worked, but not for long, and the apps didn't work. Also, at times, nothing pops up when I hover over a corner of the desktop.

Can anyone help?

Hello onetimeoneplace. Welcome to Eight Forums.

For anyone here to help it is useful to know more about what you are using. If you can, please give more complete details in the My System Specs area or just provide more information in your post. Type of computer, CPU, anything special about your graphics processor, screen resolution, type of drive / configuration ... etc
- Post a Screen Shot of an issue - Winkey / Print Scr
- Did your new installation ever work properly?
- Check your device manager for flags or exclamations.
Thanks ...

I am on windows 2000, and 1 of my computers has been acting really weird lately; it's extremely sluggish almost everytime i try to do anything (i.e. start window explorer or browser or anything) as if something is a bottleneck.

I went to event viewer and under systems, there r these 4 messages that came up repeatedly; i have tried to do a hard reboot but sometimes it doesnt even reboot; it'd say something like error reading drive, try alt ctrl delete; after an extended number of tries, then it reboots ok, but it still is very sluggish.

Looks to me like you have some sort of SCSI/RAID controllers installed / connected to your computer.

YOu may either need to update the firmware on the Card or you will need to find the most up-to-date drivers for that card to ensure proper performance.

You are getting errors with harddisk because your controller card is not responding properly.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Hello everybody,my netbook EEE PC is acting really weird. I`m quite sure it is a virus. Everywhere where it is possible, it is typing "]]]]]]]]]..." or "////////...." without stopping. I`ve already run Norton 360, AVG, Microsoft Essentials and recently Combofix but the it continues to act that way. I`ve also tried to restore to factory settings and it didn`t solve the problem. I don`t know anymore what to do. Below you can see the log created when I ran Combofix. My computer keeps tweaking out and I have no idea why! I've run several virus scanners but they all say that it's clear and safe. For some reason whenever I click on the computer tab in my start menu it will immediately start rapidly switching between the computer page to the desktop page. The same thing happens when I go into my downloads and click on anything, it'll immediately open back up the computer page and switch between that and the desktop page. I've tried to go to the control panel and get into programs but it refuses to open the uninstall a program page or any of the programs that are in the control panel. Does anyone have any idea what's going on and how I can fix it????

Hello and welcome to TSF.

Windows 7 has a very robust System Restore. Have you tried invoking System Restore? You can access System Restore from the Advanced Options menu by pressing F8 during startup, selecting Repair Your Computer from that menu, select the keyboard layout, then choose System Restore from the System Recovery Options screen which appears. Choose a restore point before the issue arose.

Then, follow the steps in our our pre-posting process outlined below. Use a USB flash drive to download and transfer the tools to the affected machine, if necessary.

PC generally acting 'weird'

Hello,

First, let me thank you guys in advance for your time and energy regarding my issues.

Second, this PC is used by 3 people. I used to have it set up with separate logins but keeping everyone's account up to date was a hassle so I trimmed it back to one.

Third, as far as my experience level goes, I consider myself Intermediate but still learning and sometimes need a little handholding. I'm comfortable editing the registry and have used ResHacker a few times.

Also, even though I have read the Rules, FAQ and went through the Hijackthis 5-Step process: Like running naked through a gauntlet of Hot Coals, Birch Twigs and Klingon Pain Sticks, I did learn some new things. However, alot of it seemed to pertain to MS IE. We use Firefox exclusively.

In addition, there is also some tweaks that I've applied to the start-up process and the system. One of them shows up as 'menuexplorer3.exe'. These are for accessibility and need to be kept in place if possible.

I have a Microsoft two button mouse with a wheel. Sometimes it will hang in the upper part of teh screen and when I push it all the way up it wil activate the task bar. It won't go down to the bottom of the screen. I'm running WinME with a Cyrix 333 processor and 64 megs of PC100 RAM.
Anybody have a solution? It's really driving me crazy. Oh yeah and I put a different mouse in and it did the same thing.

You sure i't not just dirty? I would check for the latest driver for your make and model. Could also be that the port has gone south. You never did mention wether or not it was a PS/2, serial, or USB mouse.

I'm currently using a Corsair K60 keyboard.

When I press the ALT key it locks my windows key.

Also I cannot press CTRL alt delete because the ALT key is functioning as something else.

While I was playing counterstrike i was pressing the shift key a lot and holding it down.

My keyboard became unusable and crazy. I found out it was sticky keys.

After I fixed that everything almost went back to normal except the alt key.

Help!

Hello, I'm having various issues with my computer at the moment and I have no idea what's going on. This started not too long time ago, with my computer shutting down while playing dota 2. It turned back on just fine, like nothing unusual had happened. This happened again a day later while playing fallout 4 and again the next day with dota 2 again. It hasn't happened since but I fear what's gonna happen in the future.
Also, my audio hasn't been working properly. My headset is either not receiving or recording anything and it seems to work/break at completely random times, with no proper way of fixing it.
Lastly, videos stopped playing completely just today. Tried to watch a video from youtube and it just didn't play. Tried on couple of videos and it was no good. Twitch didn't work either. This also fixes/breaks at random.
It's a really long post with bunch of problems but I don't know what's happening and don't know how to solve any of the problems, any help would be appreciated. I can try to offer more information if deemed necessary. OS: Windows 10

For the past 3 days my internet has been acting really strange. It sometimes randomly becomes really slow, and stays that way for a while. The speed goes up and down randomly. I will be watching a video on youtube, and it will stop loading, or load really slow, or I will be loading a page and it takes forever to load. I have tried restarting my modem, and my computer. I have tried getting help from my dad, usually he can help, but we can't figure this one out because when he did the speed test his computer was running fine. I don't know if he was just in a fast moment, or if it was actually faster than mine, but it was weird. I did the speed test on mine a few times and it was super slow. We saw little increases and decreases every time I did the test. I have no clue what is going on. My sister has been having trouble a little bit as well, but I don't think as much as me. I haven't downloaded any new programs in the past 3 days or done anything that special.

I have a broadband connection, it usually is really fast. I am running windows 7 on a laptop with a wireless connection. This is the first time anything like this has happened to me in the 2 months i have had this laptop. I can't seem to be able to find any fix for this.

The wifi connection on my phone is slow as well when i get on my network.

A:Internet is acting weird.

Please describe your entire network--type of internet access, brand and model of any modem, router, WAP, etc., how various devices are interconnected, etc.

What download/upload are you supposed to be getting, and what do you actually get with Speedtest.net or similar?

it all started about 2 weeks ago, and ive only had my computer up and running again for like 3 weeks. at first, windows update wouldnt connect, it would try but use up almost all of the CPU, and my computer would run slow. then after getting help with a microsoft tech we got it working running all kinds of command prompt stuff, and i was able to get my updates, but even still its acting weird. like anytime wuauclt.exe runs, it still uses a lot of CPU, and freezes up, and it wouldnt read my zip drive, and as soon as i close it in task manager, everything is fine.

the sound is always glitchy, and skips all the time, like when i start it up, after the blue screen when it makes the welcome noise or whatever you want to call it, it skips there, and any music i play it does it as well randomly. then, if i try to stop playing music, windows media player will freeze up, and my CPU usage will skyrocket, ive never had a problem with my sound period, so why now?

then it freezes up a lot opening folders or programs for no reason, and occasionly task manager will say its using a lot of CPU when the only thing using any is system idle process, makes no sense to me.

i checked event viewer, and nothing worth mentioning showed up.

Have you tried any general maintenance type things like making sure the hard drive isn't full, defragging the hard drive, running chkdsk, running the System File Checker.

My system which runs on Windows XP SP2 has been acting a bit weird recently. Any window or application that I am working on, the pages keeps scrolling up and down on its own. Also if I am watching a movie on Gom Player, the volume keeps increasing and decresing on it own.

I have tried cleaning it with Adware Se, Spybot, Avast but it still is acting the same. I would appreciate if i could be helped on this as it is not allowing me to work.

Download, install, update and run a full scan with Malwarebytes.

If nothing is found, you can uninstall Avast and replace it with comparable Microsoft Security Essentials, then Run a full scan with it.

I have 2 disk drive. windows is running on c and download and install program on d because its bigger. c drive is 8.05 gb and d drive is 64.4 gb. the day before yesterday my computer was fine. the c drive had like 2gb left but yesterday my computer was slow and it keep saying that I have low space on c drive but how is that possible? because I didn't install or download anything on that drive. i tried disk clean up. deleted internet temp file and other temp file but it still says i have only 3 mb left. after a while it said i had 5mb left but i didn't even delete anything. again after a while it said I had 17 mb left still didn't delete anything. again it went down to 0 bytes left. its automatically doing that. i tried cleaning up using ccleaner. didn't do much good. I scanned with avg anitvirus. also with ad-aware 2007. ad-aware didn't find anything but avg said that the hosts file in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts is changed or infected. it never said that before. it only says that now. i can't even restore because the restore point were deleted somehow. now i am scanning with spybot search&destroy. currently i have 17 mb left.

A:What Do I Do. My Computer Is Acting Weird.

AVG does not change your HOSTS file but it will alert you that the HOSTS file has changed since the last scan. If you did not make any changes, then you need to investigate what the changes are.To view the Hosts file, go to Start > Run and type: notepad %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hostsAn example HOSTS file is shown here. You can use TreeSize Free 2.1 to investigate what taking up your hard drive space.

I've been having the same problem with my computer for a few days. It was probably caused by a virus from something I recently downloaded. I have Windows Vista Home Premium on a Toshiba Satellite A215 laptop. I first noticed something was wrong after playing a game, I exited the game and while the computer was loading everything back up, I wanted to open a document in Word 2007. It gave me an error message saying something to the effect of "you can't open this document because the program needed to open it isn't there." It did the same thing when I tried to open Word, along with a couple other programs. I managed to run Advanced System Care and I did a security analysis and it said I had 279 errors, it was like whatever was making things not work was just eating through things on the computer. Eventually I wasn't able to click anything, items on the Start Menu were disappearing, and when I went into My Computer, the Favorite Links list was empty. I turned the computer off and turned it back on, went into Safe Mode, shut it down again. It boots just fine and works fine for a while, but then weird things will start happening again, the icons in the system tray (battery indicator, internet) will start either disappearing or it will tell me that the battery is dead when it's not, or that I'm not connected to the internet. I've tried scanning with Advanced SystemCare, Avast, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, IObit Security 360, and Comodo System... Read more

Hello ,I am moving this from Vista to the Am I Infected forum.Let's just try this first Run Rkill then quickly run MBAM (Malwarebytes)RKill....Please download Rkill by Grinler and save it to your desktop.Link 2Link 3Link 4Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.If using Vista, right-click on it and Run As Administrator.A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully. If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.If it does not work, repeat the process and attempt to use one of the remaining links until the tool runs.If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know. You will need to run the application again if rebooting the computer occurs along the way.Post back the scan log if successful. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.[*]Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.

Sorry for the ambiguous title, but it's the best way to describe the computer. I'm running a Windows 7 Home 64 bit laptop.
I think the problem started a few days ago, I haven't done anything different/installed anything recently. Well, it first started when I was playing a game which execute using an Executable Jar File, it would launch, but then would shut down at a certain point at the same point every time (sometimes it would load, but then shut down again straight away). This would also happen with Application files too. It could only launch again if I did a reboot. Also, when I try to open these Application file they create .swf files with seemingly random names.

My java also seems to be a little funny, it did create an error log (I think) which is attached to my post. I also have a miniboxtool log attached too (result.txt) and here is my speccy link: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/1zbbmzgfTT2UAhrzt5lQOY3

I have no idea what is causing this, but it's really annoying. Any help would be much appreciated. If you want more detail about what I have done already, or just in general feel free to ask me (I had to make this post quite quickly).

A:Computer acting weird

Hi, Sarah .

I don't see anything that jumps out at me, other than

Description: The name "WORKGROUP      :1d" could not be registered on the interface with IP address 192.168.1.2.
The computer with the IP address 192.168.1.6 did not allow the name to be claimed by
this computer.

Error: (06/19/2013 06:56:40 PM) (Source: bowser) (User: )
Description: The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer HOLLIE1
that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_Tcpip_{B7022845-B568-4343-8C7E-D6259B964DBD}.
The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced.

I've never seen an error like the first...while the second is a routine thing to anyone with a home network who doesn't consistently boot the same system first (like me)..

In the absence of easily observable clues...I would run the chkdsk /r command...and check the functionality of the hard drive by running a diagnostic.

The CheckpointZA errors are strange...did you uninstall this program?  There don't appear to be any remnants on the system now.

You are running the Comod Internet Security App while using the Avast AV...I don't know if that could cause problems.  Comod makes a standalone firewall, so I'm curious why you would install CIS if you want to use Avast AV.

Maybe others can see something more helpful .

Louis

i'm trying to fix my friend's computer cos her browser was hijacked. while fixing, i installed lavasoft ad-aware (english version!!!). but after downloading the updates, i tried to 'tweak' the options. for some reason, it shut down while i was doing it, and an error message in german came up. what's happening? thats never happened to me before. :S

A:ad-aware acting weird

Don't know - but don't use it much

How about posting a log
Post the scan log from HijackThis
Unzip somewhere to keep and run hijackthis.exe - press Scan - the Scan button changes to a Save Log button
Save, and then copy and paste the entire log here.
Dont' choose to fix anything yet - most entries will be harmless

Hello,I have a computer running Vista Ultimate and the last week or two it has been acting a little weird. First of all I could not end a process in the Task Manager because supposidly I did not have the administrator rights (which I am an administrator) and it got to the point to where I would install or uninstall a piece of software and Windows came up and said that I did not have the administrator rights to change the registry. Also, last night everytime I would try to load an application Windows would say that the shortcut was looking for a file or application that was not there anymore. I tried it with Firefox and IE 7 and it did the same thing (same error message) everytime and so I restarted the computer and it fixed it, but it should not do that. I would just like you to view the Log file and see if you can see anything to help me out. I run Zone Alarm Internet Security 7 and it works like a charm for me and I do system scans every week and did one today and it found nothing. I installed Spybot and it found some adware and spyware via cookies from the pages I looked at on Firefox. Here is the log file:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 12:38:26 AM, on 8/23/2007Platform: Windows Vista (WinNT 6.00.1904)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16512)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\Windows\system32\taskeng.exeC:\Windows\system32\Dwm.exeC:\Windows\Explorer.EXEC:\Program Files\Windows Defender&... My email client (Thunderbird) hasn't been able to download any emails lately. When I went to the login page to login manually to check my email, I keep getting redirected to some completely random site I've never even heard of. Does anyone know how to make it stop redirecting so I can check my email?Nevermind, I was being an idiot.

Madman, I read your edit and started laughing. My first thought-I'm glad I'm not the only one who has "idiot days". Thanks for a much needed laugh.

Ok, my first problem is, that since a few days Internet Explorer just crashes when I run it. It doesn't completely crash, but goes into this crashed state and starts working only after a few minutes. My next problem was, I was getting CiD Popups in Mozilla Firefox and whenever I tried checking my email at hotmail, firefox would redirect me to www.sponsorenet.comI updated Spybot SnD and Adaware as well as Spyware Blaster and did a scan in safe mode. Spybot found CiD and other problems, and I fixed them, and CiD seems to be gone .. but Internet Explorer still crashes and fails to run as it should.Furthermore, after doing the scans in safemode, I saved a Hijack This log as a precautionary measure. Here it is:----------- Hijack This Log In Safe Mode --------------Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 11:41:45 PM, on 10/17/2007Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)Boot mode: Safe modeRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exeR0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blankR1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\In... Ok if my computer is idle for a certain period of time. Well I don't know how it happens but the computer gets this black screen and something comes up which says. DISCover couldn't recognize this disc. You can install or run the media manually. I know that has something to do with media center but that's not the problem. I click ok to get rid of the screen and I get this hour glass that just keeps turning and turning. If I restart the computer it will go away. If I do alt/ctrl/del and do turn off/hybernate and then turn computer back on the screen will come back up again. I know it has something to do with DISCover which means it has to do something with media center. I haven't put anything new on the computer recenlty this just came up out of nowhere one day I was out. It's not a big virus deal or something but is very annoying. While the hour glass is running and stuff I can still search stuff but it just replaces my mouse cursor. I have also tried doing the alt/ctrl/del when the program comes up but it won't remove the screen so I can't see what programs is it bringing it up. I have also tried to press the windows key on my computer to bring up the start menu but that gets me nowhere either. So now I'm taking suggestions on what this annoying problem can be. It doesn't come up all the time just at random times and I don't know what it is.

A:Computer acting weird

I've never heard of the program. What does it do? I would either remove then reinstall it or find a suitable replacement

I noticed several weeks ago the mouse kept highlighting things when I just moved it down the page. Sometimes a reboot would stop it, but it always came back. Then today it wouldn't let me click on anything or click the start button, or launch any programs, or even shut it down, and it was making those error message noises very faintly over and over. I had to take the battery out of the laptop to get it to power off. Each time I rebooted same problem. I ran the windows scan in tools and it seems I'm able to get here to do this, but not sure how long before it starts acting weird again. I'm thinking my ex-boyfriend put a virus on my pc, cause since he left my pc has been acting weird.

Regards
Brenda

Hi elZee,

Copy/paste this into your FF or IE addressbar and press enter, it will run the Steam Diagnostics and output a report identifying any codecs/drivers or other configuration causing Steam to crash

steam://support/?Issues=*

If Steam continues to crash after trying the recommendations shown on the Diagnostics report, please exit from Steam and then try deleting all files and folders in the Steam directory except for steam.exe and the SteamApps folder.

Let me know how you go.

For the Nero issue, try re-installing the program first. If you re-install and are still getting the same problem, you might have bigger issues.

Have you tried running an Avira scan in Safe mode? When booting, keep pressing F8, choose "Safe mode" (not with networking assuming you have Avira updated) and run a scan that way.

You can also try using msconfig (if it will come up) in normal mode to set your boot to diagnostic start up.

Try these steps to see if you gain any results.

Hey guys. Ive got a problem with my computer. I dont know if u can help me but a friend told me that this were a great side. Sometime ago i started my computer, and it booted up normally until the logon screen, here it took very long time to find the users and when it finally did, nothing happened if i pushed them. I started my computer up in safe mode and saw that there was a problem wiht a program called: "Star Wind Service" i disabled it and were able to log on and play, the computer couldnt shut down however. It would just freeze at the logon screen when it was saying "closing windows". I just pressed the button but after a short period of time it began the same thing as before, where it would take 100 years to find the account and i coulndt logon. I became kind of desperate and tried a lot of things. Suddently - after a reboot i presed F8 - and i entered a screen called "advanced startup settings" (this may not be the correct word as im using the danish version of Windows XP professional, and i dont know exactly what its called.. sry :/) Here i entered "Error searching mode"(Another direct translation from danish) Now it worked again, but still not able to shut down. This is were i am now.. i can not shut my computer down normally and sometimes its just freesing. My mom has been having problems with her email. It's been really slow, doesn't complete tasks. In general, her computer is acting funny. She's been getting an error with her microsoft outlook as well.

Error in Registry for "Exchange Extensions;?" the Syntax or format of the registry entry is incorrect. Check the registry setting and compare the registry for this extension to other extensions in the registry.

She has to click 4 times on OK to get rid of error.

These are the things I have done:

I have installed Spyware S&D (fixed few problems it came up with), Microsoft AntiSpyWare (no problems found).

Reactived mcafee virus scan.

Ran CCleaner - had 390MB of temp files and cookies removed

I ran a scan with HijackThis. Here it is:

A few weeks ago my mouse started moving around my screen on it's own. It's not a normal mouse movement either, it disappears then a second later reappears in a random corner, almost like it's being teleported. Sometimes it also right clicks on it's own, or the page scrolls up or down like I'm moving the mouse wheel. At first I thought my mouse was breaking, so i changed it, but the problem stayed.

Then a few minutes ago, i was browsing the net and firefox closed on it's own, then my mouse started shooting all around my screen clicking really fast. The start menu kept opening and closing, and programs started opening up on their own. I didn't know what to do, so I hit ctrl+alt+del and restarted.

all week i've been scanning with malwarebytes, Avast, A squared, microsoft security essentials, and haven't found anything, maybe I'm doing something wrong?

does anyone have an idea of what it could be?

Nothing will be deleted. It will just give me some additional information about your system.Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here.Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool. When done, DDS will open two (2) logs: DDS.txt Attach.txtSave both reports to your desktop. Please just paste the contents of the DDS.txt log in your next post.===Third party programs if not up to date can be an open door for an infectionPlease run this security check for my review.Download Security Check by screen317 from here.Save it to your Desktop.Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.===Please post the logs and let me know the nature of your problems.

A couple of days ago, my roommate borrowed my laptop to transfer some music to his Ipod. From the the moment he plugged it in, Vista has been acting weird! Everytime I try to change a setting, windows explorer crashes, and everytime I close down Firefox, I get an error message saying that Firefox had to be closed down for security reasons! I have tried scanning EVERYTHING, but EVERYTHING is clean! I tried loading different system restore points, but it dosen't make any difference!

Now I really want to just format EVERYTHING and re-install Vista. I went to the store where I bought the machine, hoping to get my hands on a Vista install disc, but I was told they don't exist!
The clerk told me that I have to burn the disc myself, and that it's included in the computer. I just had to insert a blank cd and do something and the computer will burn the cd for me. I just forgot what I was supposed to do, so I decided I want it in writing! So here I am!

Can anyone help me?

I am running:
Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit

I have a Windows 8 Toshiba Satellite. Firstly, none of my internet browsers are opening up when I click on them. I have been clicking on them and waiting for a long time. Something similar happened to before, but it was only Chrome that wasn't opening. So back then. I downloaded "Adwcleaner" and I scanned my computer and I was able to open Chrome. Now Adwcleaner won't open either and neither are my settings, where I can go into safe mode. Also, when I booted up my computer just now, I pressed all the F keys to see if I could get the special menu screens but nothing came up. So my laptop is basically useless. The only thing it can open up is one anti-virus program, Malwarebytes, which I scanned and it detected nothing.

Okay I have windows Vista. I have 4 accounts on the computer. I am the only administrator on it. Last night I was on the computer and was just playing a game on the internet like I usually do. Well today I turn on the computer, log onto my account, and now my desktop is completely different. The picture I had on there is gone, all the desktop icons I had on there are gone. The sidebar is back. Lots of the programs are now gone. ITs like it had reset itself. Yet none of the other accounts are different. What could have caused this? How can I find out why this happened?

A:My Computer is Acting Weird..

It could have been caused by malware/virus.

I would request a moderator to move this to the appropriate section.

I'm new to using the USB modems and I've only had this one for 2 months maybe. It has worked fine up until today and I'm not sure what is going on....

There are no markings on the modem but the software says "Conexant" and it's a dialup usb modem.

Today when I tried to connect, the first try there was a dial tone but it wouldn't start dialing the numbers, it just sat there. Each time after that there would not even be a dialup tone. I restarted the computer and it brought up the dial tone again but nothing else and then it wouldn't even do that again. I unplugged it from the usb port and plugged it back in and then it worked fine, this time. The phones all had a dial tone when the modem wouldn't have one.

Any ideas why it did this all of the sudden after no previous problems and how I might solve it? I have no access to anything other than dialup in my area and I need the modem working daily. My old one no longer works like it's supposed to. I do have another pci modem backup that I bought at the same time but it was a used one, had no software with it and I do not know if it will work at all, especially with the default windows modem driver.

Thanks.

windows 7, updated
both IE 32 bit and IE 64 bit do this.
dhrome and firefox do not.
i've frequesn'tly cleared my cache
i keep software and such up to date
another trick someone told me that sometimes works when nothing else does: in taskmanager, processes: fine=d "explorer.exe" and end the process (it doesn't hurt anything to do this) then you go to the applications tab and at the bottom right it says "new task", click that and enter "explorer.exe", quite simple, and as i said sometimes whien other things don't work or your computer seems to be running slow this sometimes helps.

what IE does is each time it changes a webpage or if i'm in a game and i click on a button to do something, It clicks! and flashes for a few seconds to reverse colors, that is, black screen ith white print and any color, the colors are reversed on the spectrum, those of you who are old enough, you will remember what the negative for a color photograph looks like.

i'm sorry, i haven't been fast enough yet to get a printscreen of this.

It's consisted, not just sometimes but every time, for example, when i post this and the page refreshes, it will do it.

malware scans don't find anything. spyware sometimes does, but removing it doesn't change the problem
virus scan sometimes finds stuff but removing it doesn't change the glitch.

i do my best to keep non-essential cookies off my computer, i have a cute little cookie manager for me that remembers and saves or deletes... Read more
