Google Search Gets Redirected; Volume doesn't load correctly, Vista Doesn't start right all the time

Q: Google Search Gets Redirected; Volume doesn't load correctly, Vista Doesn't start right all the time

I have been having a problem with my computer for a few weeks now. I have Windows Vista on my computer, and have Webroot Virus Scan. When I go to Google's search engine and click on the link, it gets redirected. Sometimes when I turn on my computer, the volume doesn't work at all. Also, sometimes when I turn my computer on, the computer doesn't load, and it says there is a problem with DellDock installation (which I have no clue what that means). I never had any of these problems before this virus showed up. When I run Webroot, it catches the same virus everytime, some type of virus in Java. I have tried researching this virus, but as I said, Google links don't work. Thank you for taking the time to look at my problem.DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Danny at 16:22:20.01 on Sat 07/24/2010Internet Explorer: 7.0.6001.18000Microsoft? Windows Vista? I got this weird problem only today, and it happens with both Firefox and IE.
When I click on a link, the middle part of the URL automatically disappears when loading, and the page cannot be loaded. For example, I'm trying to load this page: http://tw.user.bid.yahoo.com/tw/show/auctions?userID=mayuki0920&u=:mayuki0920

But when I click on the link, it becomes
http://tw/show/auctions?userID=mayuki0920&u=:mayuki0920 (the tw.user.bid.yahoo.com disappears automatically).

I can't even get into facebook. I've made sure I typed www.facebook.com correctly, but a pop-up appears saying "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded".

Any help is appreciated....

cant see any nasties but not a bug guy! suggest installing sp3 as you on old sp2

if all other sites ok then likely that Symantec has blocked it accidently, you will need to go into the settings to check what "rules" have been set to allow/block

click report to move to malware / virus section if you convinced you have a bug

I have a 4y old Sony VAIO (VGN-NS11J) that stopped working today morning after making a whirring noise

Repeated attempts to restart failed and after many attempts, I managed to get to the Startup Repair mode - after a long time, startup repair says it failed to automatically repair the problem

I managed to run system restore but after a while I got the following message: "System restore failed due to an unspecified error. The disk strucgture is corrupted and unreadable (0X80070571)

My laptop did not come with a Windows Vista CD/Recovery disk

My first priority is to recover a few files in the laptop - if I am able to do this, then I dont mind junking the laptop

Since this is an old laptop, I would prefer not to use an expensive professional to recover the data

Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated!

Hi,
I am using IE 8 on my laptop and IE 9 on my desktop. I have been having a lot of trouble with IE on both computers loading properly. I have attached screenshots of what I see when I try to load websites. The internet is also loading soooo slow....almost like I have dialup. :( I scanned for viruses with MBAM and it found nothing. I tried restarting my dsl modem, but that did not help either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I tried to upload screenshots of what I see when my browser loads, but I keep getting this message:

Installed Win 8 Pro with 'keep Win 7 settings' option, then noticed that it displayed GMT rather than UTC+10 for Canberra, Australia. Checked and updated 'Date and Time' to (UTC+10:00) Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney, made sure Location was 'Australia' and Language 'English (Australia)' and still the system time is 4am when it should be 4pm.

Any helpful ideas?

A:After upgrade Windows 10 desktop doesn't load correctly

It might be an update that has jammed. On odd occasions discharging the motherboard has unstuck things, like this:Turn off computer and remove power plug. Remove main battery too if it's a laptop. Before trying again hold the Power Off/On button down for at least 20 seconds. It probably won't help but it's quick to try and you might be lucky.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Weird issue, I've tried to research it and found nothing so here goes. The internet is fine I play games on it and everything, but I cannot load web pages correctly. *windows 8 btw* A youtube video will open up then play for about 5 seconds then stop completely. Some pages get SSL errors, then when I refresh it it loads. Some pages don't load correctly unless i refresh it a few times and pictures still look all messed up. Tried to reset winsock, said i need admin permission (I think I am the admin, only one on my comp) so finally I'm at a loss, any help would be great. Also the Windows store doesn't work. Also I get certificate errors ALL THE TIME.

Quick update, control panel says I am the administrator.
Another update, reset winsock, seems to work better but no videos load still.

This problem has started in recent weeks (yes, too far back to do System Restore):

When I reboot, if I click on the speaker icon in the Notification Area, it tells me that Windows Audio is not running (and so no media app will produce any sound). However, if I then raise or lower the volume via my multimedia keyboard, Windows Audio starts running.

This is despite the fact that in Services, the Startup Type of Windows Audio is Automatic. So why doesn't it start on reboot?

Hi guys,

I'm having some problem with my audio. I have 2 regular speakers. I just bought a new computer (Vista Home Premium installed) and using the same 2 speakers that I had on XP.
Default setting is at 2.1. (I understand that means you have 3 speakers but I only have 2) and there's no setting for "Stereo". And the problem is that the audio doesn't go higher than 50 and the volume is VERY low. I tried so many different forums and couldn't find any results. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Hi oneerc,

I had this same kind of thing. But I have the ATI win 7 preview driver. I disabled the ATI external event viewer in services and unchecked the CCC from startup programs and it stopped. I don't know what the equivelant would be for those would with nvidia. If they have a nvidia beta driver for your card for 7, I might try it.

Since... some Days yet, I have the Problem of my Firefox [v3.6.16] not loading the Start Page sometimes.

So, I start Firefox, get a blank Page instead of Google [happens quite often], and in the lower left Corner it says 'finished'!
[Or is it 'ready' in English...?]

It did do this just on Start of Firefox - when clicking on my Start Page Button, pressing F5, or just hitting Enter in the Adress Bar again, Google will load properly. But not upon Start, sometimes!
It's driving me Nuts!

Is there any other Way to solve this other than...
A), delete the whole User Profile Folder and lose all Extensions and their Settings
B), re-install Firefox and all of its Extensions + Settings
C), get Firefox v4.0 [don't think I couold use all of my Extensions/Themes there]
D), get another Browser?

Like, which File could I import from another Profile to fix this without losing my current one...?
I have Emsisoft Anti Malware installed, every Malware/Spyware/Trojan/Virus/Worm will be detected [Behavior Scanner reports even the slightest Change in Files like the Host File], it worked every Time yet, and Scan didn't achieve any Results but 5 Trace.Tracking Cookies.
Plus, upon re-loading the Page, it DOES work, after all.

I custom built my computer. Its about a year and a half old. About a month ago, it occasionally would have the lights and fans start, but nothing else happened. This has become more and more frequent. Now it takes about twenty tries to boot up. The motherboard has two lit LED's when this occurs. One is yellow, the other is red. The disk activity light does not turn on when the system fails, nor does the BIOS. What I've read on the internet leads me to believe that the BIOS battery is failing, but I've only had the computer for a year and a half. Plus, through all this, the date and time settings on the BIOS are retained. What is going on?

I'm not really sure how to explain this and this is my first post so I think I will just show you, yeah, that's probably the best way. The best way I see to explain it is instead of a list of the files and programs found in the start search showing up it just shows a few files like Documents.file, Programs.file, Files.file, or crap like that, when I click one of them it gives me a Windows Security Error message that I will put in a thumbnail like the search.. Please help? I need this searcher, everything else works fine but the start search. (SearchFail.zip is both images in a zip)

I have been perhaps overly concerned with the subject of spyware and the possibility of being hijacked or having been hijacked. I am running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 on a Micron PC with a 900 MHz Celeron cpu on an Intel D815EEA motherboard. I use Internet Explorer Version 6.etc.etc.xpsp_sp2_etc.

Recently, I noticed that my objects folder that USED to contain 4 objects (Shockwave, Flash, Java, and something else that I can't remember) now only contained Trend Micro's Housecall. Well, I removed "housecall" and then went online and re-installed Macromedia's Shockwave and Flash Player. However, NOW...the LONE object in the OBJECTS FOLDER is SHOCKWAVE.

Also, recently....within the past 2 days, my XP's "SEARCH" app (from the start menu) NO LONGER WILL EVEN START. When I "click" on it, it appears as though it is going to start....the pointer blinks BRIEFLY......and sometimes the pointer's "busy" hourglass appears for a second or two....BUT the SEARCH app DOES NOT OPEN!!!

I don't know if I need to RE-INSTALL XP or if I have been HIJACKED.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME?????

THANK YOU ALL FOR ALL THAT YOU DO!!!

About 4 days ago, I got notifications that my computer was infected with malware. I ran MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and the first scan showed about 54 infected files. I was able to remove about 50 of them and did several more scans until I got zero infected files.

Whenever I start my computer and Windows loads, I see the hourglass icon on the taskbar and start menu and the clock freezes to whatever time Windows loaded at. I am able to load Firefox, but it is very slow and I am unable to open more than one tab at a time. If I am able to go to Google, if I search for something and click on a link, I am re-directed to a completely different site. (I've seen "GimmeAnswers")

I ran SpyBot Search and Destroy last night and that removed a few things, but nothing out of the ordinary (at least in my opinion).

Last night, I removed Avast and replaced it with AVG. Windows still does not load properly.

I have attempted to run DDS in both normal and safe modes, but I have not had any success. The scan does not complete and I do not receive a log. I was able to run HiJackThis. Forgive me if I have made a mistake in posting the log...I'm in Safe Mode and the resolution is frustrating.

Any help would be appreciated! This is driving me crazy. Thank you.

Googling the Quiet Office feature of Asus there are multiple reported problems. Best to default to the Win7 built-in Power Options in Control Panel. Set up a Balanced Plan unless you're a gamer then use High Performance.

For the last month or so, every time I log off my account, the keyboard does not register at the Windows Log In screen. This makes it so I have to restart the computer and then it works fine.
There are three accounts on the computer, the casing has been half removed for the last 3 months, a DVD burner and driver recently installed 3 months ago and I am using a wireless off brand USB keyboard and mouse.
OS: Windows Xp Home Edition 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3
As for the second part, the computer requires several restarts to boot up, sometimes up to twenty minutes of turning on and off to boot up. Only started doing this a week ago.

A:My Keyboard doesn't work, and the computer turns on but doesn't start.

It sounds like something is wrong with your Windows XP drivers. Something like that happened to me while building my computer, and when I boot up the keyboard did not work because my copy of windows XP was bad. You could try reinstalling windows XP, and It might work better, but I dont have a definite answer to your problem.

I can search in explorer, but unless i copy and paste in the file path into the start menu, there will be no search results. Could it be that my documents are in my b drive not c? I have indexed all my files as well.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

A:Start Menu search doesn't work

Is there another user account on that PC? If so log into that one and see if it works in that account, if it does, there is a problem with the user account. If you do not have another user account go to Control Panel/User Accounts and create a new one with admin rights, log out of the current account and log into the new one you just made.

If the New user account works using Start Search, then migrate your old user account profile to the new one.
Delete the old corrupt user account after a few weeks using the new one.

I'm trying to investigate a problem that started several weeks ago-Outlook 2007 search window never brings up any choices; no mail items ever populate the central box

Under Tools/Options/Search Options the boxes are checked for each of the accounts and PST files and to show results as I type. The radio button for All Folders is on. These are the default settings which used to work.

When I type into the search box a pop-up states that there are files that are not yet indexed

Under Windows 7 - Indexing Options, it states indexing is not running

When I check services, Windows Search Service is stopped

Under Windows services Windows Search Service is stopped. It is set to start up on boot however-delayed.

When I try to start this manually an error returned is;

Windows could not start the Windows search service on local computer the service did not return an error this could be an internal Windows error or an internal service error if the problem persists contact your system administrator at

C:\Windows\system32\SearchIndexer.exe /Embedding does exist which is what The Windows Services says is the executable.

Meanwhile searching in the search box in Windows Explorer does work but I also get a flag that the files are not indexed

Any help appreciated

A:Windows Search Service doesn't start

Best resolutionI really never got this resolved. I believe it might have been that at that time I had removed what I thought were a number of unnecessary services usingMSconfig. Even though Windows was not able to tell me I must to remove something on which the indexing service was dependent. I resolve by rolling back the machine to a prior date using a full system backup I had created just FYI.

A couple weeks ago I ran an .exe that I really shouldn't have.

My computer went down the tubes pretty quick. Couldn't access the gui taskmanager popups, hijacks, background changed the works.

I can now access the gui task manager again.

I am NOW using Panda and Adaware.

IE still gets Hijacked often. Lots of popups etc.

Can't get google searches to work in Firefox 2.

I have Win XP sp2 and some updates afterwards, but can't get updates to work now (I'm sure part of the problem).

Have a covered enough bases to post my Hijackthis log file?

Thanks for any and all help.

Okay, so pretty much I'm running Firefox (3 now) on Windows Vista 64bit.
Today I noticed that Firefox was taking longer to load then normal, and every time I use Google it gives me this message "The requested URL /search?q=sdfsd&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a was not found on this server. "
This is regardless of if I'm using the search bar, or the site itself.. I can search images just not anything else... Other search engines work fine.. As does every other site I've tried.
IE7 does not have this problem, neither does searching through the gadget I have on my desktop... Just Firefox itself... Could this be a virus of some sort? Please help!

My Dell 15R 5520 Laptop only starts up sporadically. When I can get it to start up, it functions properly. Sometimes I can even restart it successfully.
The rest of the startup attempts (75%) result in the buttons above the keyboard lighting up and then going dark followed by 7 beeps.
After some research, the seven beeps indicates a CPU issue.
So far, I've done the following, without resolution.
-Ran System Restore back to before the latest Windows update.
-Ran the startup diagnostics (no errors found)
-Reseated the processor chip and replaced the thermal compound
-Reseated the memory chips, as well as replaced them
-Tried a different power adapter
I'm stumped since I cannot identify the specific problem, and since the problem isn't consistent.
Any suggestions/advice/help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello!

I'm trying to help a friend clean up her laptop. It is a Windows 7 64-bit laptop infected with Antivirus Security Pro, and it is preventing safe mode (i.e. it comes up to the welcome screen, and then automatically does a restart.

I attempted to use the farbar scanning tool per the instructions in another post, but when I enter the H:\frst64 command, it simply returns to the command prompt. Nothing else happens.

The windows version shows as 6.1.7600 when I bring it up in recovery mode.

Would certainly appreciate any guidance on how to move forward. I fear that her backups may be compromised as well...

Thanks in advance.

When I search for programs on the search function when you hit the windows button it only searches for files found on the same harddrive I installed Windows on (C: SSD 120GB).
I have all my other files, pictures games movies etc on my E and F harddrive.
However when I search for the names on the search bar nothing pops up, can I fix this somehow?

A:Start > Windows doesn't search for files in other harddrives

Start> Computer> then select/highlight which hard drive to search.

Tutorial here> Search in Windows 7

I prefer Option Two starting at Step #2. This way you can easily select what drive you search.

The Start search bar you are trying to use only searches the installed OS drive as you have found out.

Hope that helps.

"These files can't be opened

Your Internet Security settings prevented one or more files from being opened."
and in "show details"... "Programs"

Thanks for any help or suggestions in advance

Hello,

I find when I press the Windows key, or open the Start Screen and start typing, nothing happens. Usually the sidebar opens with search results, but recently it has stopped working completely. Also, the search charm on the sidebar, and the search button on the Windows 8.1 (update) Start Screen do not work either--when I press them, nothing happens.

I spent a couple of hours looking for a solution to this problem, but with no luck. At first I thought it was a Windows Search service that had stopped working, so I restarted them, but the problem persisted.

I appreciate any help!

Hi, I've done some research but can't find the solution to this problem.

I have a Sony Vaio all in one JS-Series PC with Vista.

Today I came home and switched on my computer and it went to a black screen after the VAIO logo appeared. The black screen stayed for about 10 minutes and went nowehre, so I decided to switch off the computer by holding down the button and try again.

On restart a blank screen came up and said
"A disc read error occurred. Press ctrl, alt + delete to restart computer".

I pressed ctrl, alt delete and restarted again.

This time I turned it on and it came up with the option to load in safe mode, or continue as normal. I chose the second option and it started loading..

During loading it freezed again just before the log in page and I decided to give it time to work. After half an hour it finally let me log in.

At that stage, it almost started to show the desktop however it didn't show icons, start button, task tray and ctrl, alt delete wouldn't work.

I thought it was going to load for a second but again nothing.

After about 15-20 minutes it went to black screen again. The lights on the computer and the sound of the fan and everything very normal.

I was forced to restart again by the button.

Once it was off, I took out the plug and let it cool off for 30 minutes.

Turned it on and this time loaded it in safe mode. The safe mode showed loads of white text about drives and stuff but crashed again and froze.

Why does the stupid search engine in Vista not even work? I have a long list of MP3s and I just typed in the word "he" to find the song called "He said, she said" but nothing came up even though I was staring right at it. Then I type in the word "love" and and a Kelly Clarkson song comes up under the search results that has the title "Already Gone".

So my question is how the hell do I get a search feature like XP? When I would search in XP I would actually get what I am searching for. Vista tries to be cool and add a search bar in every single window, yet it doesn't work.

Hi everyone. My Windows Vista Home Premium computer does not want to restart half the time. What I mean is that it won't restart by going through the start menu and clicking on restart. Instead, I'll have to press the power button and hold it in for like 5 seconds and then it will shut down. Then I have to press the power button again to turn it back on. What can I do to fix this? By the way, I'm running service pack 2 on my Vista computer.

A:Windows Vista doesn't want to restart half the time

Recommended approach would be to always let it close down itself even though it may take a long time.
Spend some time trying to analyse what is causing the slow shut down when it does occur - try Task manager but make sure when you look at the Processes you tick the box at the bottom wich says "Show processes from all users".

In Indexing Options, I've selected C:\Users\validusername and all its sub-folders (except appData) to be indexed. When I search in the validusername folder from Windows Explorer, everything works fine. But when I enter the exact same search terms in the start menu search box, I get results from some folders, but not others.

The folders that are "working" include Contacts, Downloads, Favorites, Links, and Saved Games; the folders that are NOT working include Desktop, My Documents, My Music, My Pictures, and My Videos. I can't for the life of me see the pattern.

Under Customize Start menu, under "Search other files and libraries", I've selected "Search with public folders". I can't think of any other relevant settings off the top of my head.

I've already rebuilt the index, but that didn't solve the problem.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? After Googling everything I could think of for n hours, I'm just about at the end of my rope. Please let me know if I can provide any other information or run any experiments that would help you investigate the problem.

A:start menu search box doesn't display results from some folders

I almost always notice a "See more results" at the bottom of a Start menu search, so maybe it's because the result space is limited when you do a search from there. Clicking on the "See more results" brings up windows explorer.

I am getting increasingly frustrated by Vista Search. On a regular basis I need to find *.tps files which are postscript files generated on the fly by Acrobat Distiller. Vista cannot find these files and neither can it find the accompanying *.log files. I have mad entries for these new file types in the control panel for search but sometimes Vista just plainly forgets all about it and ignores the files. I have spent a LOT of time trying to fix this problem and have even spent some money having Microsoft doing support on it but it just doesn't help. I run both MacOSX and Vista64 ultimate simultanely, and I have to confess that it is a nuiscance to watch how OSX not only searches in less than a second - it also presents the search results in a nice way. That's how Microsoft should have made Vista Search and it is a shame that I have to do the major part of my work on Vista.
Apart from my gripes with this - does any have an alternative search utility which works a bit more predictably? Or can Vista Search be made to work like it should ?

Best regards
Joom

A:vista search - index doesn't update

Hi Joom,

Depending on the PowerOptions you set for the Indexing service, It can either update instantly (High Performance) or update while your not using the computer (Power-Saving), Make sure its set to High-Performance if you want it to update more regularly but Indexing is not updated instantly for the entire OS and it never will on any OS including OSX.....You can the search box in the folder where the .tps files are located to find files instantly before the entire index is updated however

Make sure the folder path and Filetype is allowed to be indexed by changing the Indexing settings in ControlPanel and I believe its not set to index .tps because .tps is an uncommon file format...

We have a guide on changing the Indexing options here: Indexing Options

If your using *.tps to find files its better to use ext:.tps instead...You can find advanced Search querys here for all types of search options and querys: Windows Search Advanced Query Syntax theres also another more advanced Search syntax of querys found on this post here: The Windows Blog

Im not sure why your having trouble with the search feature, Its not had to use to make find the things you need I have 12,000+ songs, 400+ movies and over 8000+ documents, textfiles and pdf, 900+ sourcecode files, 3000+ pictures and more I can find in seconds so I guess its just not indexing the filetype you need (ext:.tps) or your using the wrong syntax but the links above should help

Hi,

I have been wanting to address this problem for some time now but I have always felt that it is going to be difficult to understand and solve. Maybe, maybe not.

I just looked at some of the previous FAQs on this subject and I don't fully understand their fixes. One fix tells me to go to change the Indexing somehow by disabling it. But when I go there, that box is inactive and cannot be changed apparently.

So before I go further and not know what I am doing, I decided to post and ask for help.

To illustrate my problem, let's say I am trying to find a file in my Downloads folder. I open my Downloads folder and can see the file I want.

Yet when I do a Search for that file, the Search cannot locate it. It is as if the file doesn't exist. But I am looking right at it in Downloads!

I don't yet know how deep this problem goes, i.e. what if my file I wanted was a .dll file or something deep in the computer and I couldn't find it?

Is the fix to this problem simply to disable Indexing? Or is there something more sinister going on with Search not being able to find anything?

Thanks. I hope I can understand any technical replies about this problem.

A:Vista Search doesn't fully work

I don't like the search feature in Vista/7 - but it's actually fairly easy once you've messed with it successfully for a while.

By default it only searches Indexed files - so if your Download folder isn't indexed, it won't find it. You have to check the little box that instructs it to "Include non-indexed, hidden, and system files (might be slow)" (Microsoft KB article about this: You cannot find files when you search a Windows Vista-based computer even though the files exist on the computer ).

When I open Windows Explorer (Windows 8.1) the search box on upper-right corner doesn't work in the Google drive folder. It works on all other folders. That is: when I enter the name of a file inside this folder, the search returns "0 items" (usually, just typing the first characters of a file starts churning out results).
I've tried rebuilding the index and making sure that folder isn't excluded in the indexing, to no avail.

A:Windows explorer Search doesn't work for Google drive folder

I believe that is due to the Google Drive being non-local, ie: not on the PC, but on in the Google cloud.

Now, the color does not change. Is there a way to set this up as previously?

A:After clicking on title in Search Page in Google color doesn't change

I believe not. This was a browser feature, not a Google feature, and my understanding is that it was removed from most browsers a while ago as it turned out to be an easy way of tracking web activity.

I agree, it was quite useful, and if you find a way of re-activating it please post back and spread the word !

Hi,

I got a new computer and it came with one big 500 gig hard drive with one partition. I don't like having just one partition so I used Gparted to resize the windows partition and make another one for data. When I restarted, Vista would not load and just hung at the loading screen with the moving bar. So I put in the Vista DVD and restarted to try to the fix windows from the DVD. I pressed enter to boot from the DVD and it went through one loading screen with a white bar moving across the screen, then it went to a loading screen that looked the exact same as the one where it hangs when starting normally. Once that disappears it just goes to a blank screen. The whole screen is black and nothing happens. I left it like that over night to see if anything would load, but nothing did. So now I can't get into windows either way and I don't know what to do. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Edit: I have managed to fix the problem. I turned off all but one cpu core in the bios and fixed the dvd loading problem.

Does anyone has any suggestion of how can I back up the data before I run the asus recovery cd?

A:My Vista doesn't start!!!

Hi cephyr. . .

Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista Support!

It is possible that one of the 60 or so Windows Vista Updates that "flew" into your computer did not successfully install or resulted in "friction" with updates that would have come in from the PCs manufacturer. Also, it may be related to Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) if your PC was eligible for such.

There are two reports that I would like to see for detailed system information. (1) A Belarc Advisor report saved in "mht" format (Top right of IE7 screen; Page; Saved as; save as mht). You can download Belarc HERE; (2) A DXDiag report - START | type dxdiag into the Start Search box | right-click on dxdiag.exe | select Run as Administrator | respond to User Access Control prompt. Then save this report as a text file. Please see my PM that I sent to you for details on where to send the files. My results will then be posted here in this thread.

These can be run in SAFEMODE with Networking. Also - since you just got the computer in the last 24 hours - is there any reason that we can't reset it to the factory default (the way it was when you opened the box and turned it on) if this option is available?

Do you own a full retail copy of Vista Ultimate (did you but it) - or did it come pre-installed on the PC?

Regards. . .

So the 29th of July i went ahead and installed the Windows 10 update. It installed correctly and ran smooth without any problems for a few hours. Suddenly i realized that my Start Menu button didn't open the start menu when i clicked it. Neither did the search button.

I didn't really think about it much and continued gaming with one of my friends. Later that night i tried to restart my pc to see if that fixed any of my issues. Unfortunately nothing was fixed.

Now i can't open any microsoft apps (other than the Health and training app through the Task Manager and then the apps tab). Theres no way to access the settings or Windows Update so im stuck with just using non-microsoft apps if i can find them that is under my HDD.

(Edit) I can't rightclick anything in the taskbar or manage my internet connection.

Any help to fix this is highly appriciated.

Methods i have tried found around the internet:

Using the
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} command in Windows PowerShell as admin.

Running this troubleshooter from this link

Neither of them fixed anything.

Hi all,
I downloaded and installed Vista SP1 using Windows Update program.
After installation I restarted my PC and a black screen appeared with the white string that was like:
!! 0x1936000 !! capilock.dat

This string remainedon the screen after half an hour so I shut down my PC pushing the button.
Restarting again the pC the Start-up Restoring tool (or I think it is called like that in English - in Italian it' s "Strumento di ripristino all'avvio")
ran and it restarted about five times my pC.
The last time a window appeared saying to remove any USB key or digital camera connected to the PC (but there wasn't any!), and in the log file of the tool the was written that it had been impossible to find the solution to the problem.
Now when I start myPC that window keep on appearing and it doesn't allowmeto do anything but opening the advanced diagnostic tools .
I tried every one of them but I can'tsolve the problem and above all can't start my PC !!

What can I do (except formatting my PC)??

Please help!!
Thanks in advance

Andrea

Hi

I have an HP laptop on windows vista x64 home edition. The computer froze so i turned it off the hard way pressing the power button. After that, it didn't startup, I tried system restore, but it didn't work and now it doesn't show me any restore points. The startup recovery tool canīt fix the problem and ends with error code 0x45d. I'm really desperate trying to solve this.

I've tried going into safe mode, the windows memory diagnostics, last known good configuration, and they didn't work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi! I am running windows 7 and have an administrator account and user account.. I can always log into my administrator account but my user account doesn't want to load 50% of the time. I will log in and it tells me it is preparing desktop and that I have been logged in with a temporary profile. I do not like using my administrator profile much so this is getting to be a pain. I am in school and all of my schoolwork is under my user profile, so I need it. Most of the time, a simple reboot helps.. Today I rebooted 5 times before I could get in. I'm pretty sure I'm clean of malware or viruses (at least I hope) I've had kaspersky pure 2.0 on here since I bought it. Nothing changed before this started (haven't installed or uninstalled anything new). I use ccleaner and ccleaner enhancer so not sure if it's cleaning something I need. Any help is appreciated.

A:"User" profile doesn't load half the time

You are logged with a temporary profile because windows is unable to read your profile folder (C:\Users\Username_Folder), this is due to corrupt data or something (application, malware) is preventing the reading of data. Try running checkdisk set to automatically fix errors and scan for and recover bad sectors.

Hi there.

I have a brand new Vista machine that I set up last night.

I have been trying to access a printer over the network but I kept on getting a "spooler subsystem app stopped working and was closed." message when I tried to add it.

I found that for some reason, the Print Spooler in services doesn't seem to start with Windows.

If I start it myself, I can add the printer and print to it no problems.

Is there any way I can make it start itself? Its set to Automatic.

Thanks,

Craig

A:Print Spooler doesn't start with Vista

Hi,

If the process is set to Automatic startup it usually means it'll start up on its own. Obvious, I know, but the only thing I can think of that may or may not be causing the problem is your anti-virus/firewall software (if you have any). Check the settings and then restart, and see if the same thing happens.

Post back here if you still have problems. Hope this helps.

Jon.

Hi, everyone. I click the power button on my Windows Vista Inspiron 1520 and the power light comes on, and the fan starts up, but the screen remains dark as if it's not on and none of the keyboard's keys work. The laptop crashed about two times about every half hour it was on; there would be a fullscreen of distorted image, and I would have to press the power button to restart.

After about 2-3 crashes, it won't turn on anymore.

Can someone tell me why this happened? Could it have been a virus, or maybe it's a power problem within the laptop? What could be the main cause of something like this?

Thanks.

A:Windows Vista Laptop Doesn't Start

You could try using a system recovery disc and run startup repair. Here's a link to free system recovery disc if you don't have one:
[link removed by mod--copyright infringement]
Note: they are posted as .torrent files, so you'll need to get the .iso files. Follow the instructions on the site.

Once you have your recovery disc, put it in and restart the computer. If it doesn't read your disc you may have to change the boot order on your computer so that it reads the CD/DVD drive before starting Windows. This article http://helpdeskgeek.com/how-to/change-bo… has some good instructions. Once you boot the disc, choose startup repair or one of the other options if that doesn't work.

I need some help here. I have 2 partitioned drives on the same hard drive (C: & E:). I was transferring some video files from my C: to E:. My comp just suddenly froze and i hit the power button which immediately turned my comp off.
Now when i turned it back on, after the bios loading screen, the screen just turns blank. Theres still a video connection because the monitor is still on. The hard drive seems to still be showing up in the bios.
I've tried booting in safe mode, but it wouldn't let me into the safe mode options.
I've also tried inserting the vista cd and booted off that, but after that green loading bar, it turns blank (still with video connection).
I've also tried taking out the hard drive and plugging it into my other comp as a 2ndary drive running vista too. For that, it gets the the green loading bar, but then turns blank. But when i remove that 2ndary drive out, vista boots back up normally.
So im guessing something is wrong with the hard drive.

I really need some help here cause i need some files off that hard drive.

It doesn't matter if i reinstall windows vista, but i just need to be able to read the hard drive and copy some important files.

I'm using Windows vista 32bit, western digital sata 320gb hard drive(1 with the problem), evga 650i mobo.

1. download Ubuntu Live CD
2. http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
3. Burn to CD and put in drive
4. Restart computer and push F11 (If you don't have CD as 1st boot device)
5. Select boot from CD
6. After it loads up you can navigate your hard drive and get what you want and copy / paste it to your other partition.

Hello members of the Tech Guy forum. I've encountered a problem with my Windows Vista Inspiron 1420. I started it up earlier today, but after a restart, the screen just loads the loading screen, and then goes to a blank dark screen. It's on because I see the light on the screen as low as it is, but it just doesn't take me to the login screen.

It is essential I fix this computer without completely restoring it; can someone please provide me any solutions for this horrid problem?

Thank you.

So in short, my computer is now topsy turvy. I'd just like it to go back to how it was just 3 days ago however it's now upside down. I don't know where anything is at after installing windows again, my cd did not have the repair option and everything is completly different on my computer now. Even the graphics are not how they were just a few days ago.
I got home from a concert and there must have been a power outtage in the house. Turned on the computer and it just went into a loop, got a blue screen and then a "Windows Error Recovery" screen. No matter what mode I tryed to run it in it would go back eventually to the same "Windows Error Recovery" screen where it told me to install CD and hit repaain, ir however that was not an option. Opted to just install a new version of Windows on the D drive as that is the only one that had enough space. Haven't had any computer problems in a year and now this. Any way I can get it back to how it was a few days ago or am I going to have to try and find all my files, programs and everything else I was using, put it all on an external and start from scratch? I was also using 2 diffferent browsers. One of which I don't know what it was but was definitly alot better than internet explorer. Oh yeah, now there is no sound on my computer either. Hi LASlim,1.) What is your computer make and model number?2.) Did the recovery DVD come with your computer and are there more than one disk? 3.) What is the label on the recovery disk that you used? Installing Vista on drive D: may be a mixed blessing. Your original Vista files are probably accessible, that's good, but whatever data was on Drive D has no doubt been overwritten. How to find your old files:Double click on "My Computer" on the Desktop or "Computer" in the Start Menu.Drive C: is your new installation of Vista; without your old files.Look for a higher drive letter D,E,F,G, etc. that is not a CD or DVDROM drive. You should be able to find your original Vista installation.Your old Documents folder would be located here: "Users\<your old username>\My Documents."I recommend that you backup all important files to an external hard drive because you should alway have important data backed up.Whether you then copy this data to the new Vista location or elect to re-install Vista to it's original drive is up to you.Let us know the answers to the above questions and how you make out with your data files.

HI,
I have a number of problems with my computer and I will try and address them one at a time. It is a 2001 vintage Dell 4100 running Windows XP Home Edition; version 5.1.2600 SP3 Build 2600. I have 512 MB memory. IE7 has been running poorly for some time but a thunderstorm and a power outage really knocked me out (although other computers in the house are OK).
If I try and start IE from the desktop icon the screen changes to IE but I never get past the "connecting" message. When I run Task Manager to abort the process it shows 100% CPU usage. If I start IE from the accessories section of the start menu with add-ons disabled it seem to run fine. I know there is a message there but I can't decipher it. I have downloaded and reinstalled IE7 but the problem persists ... seems to load "on top" and thus assumes all existing problems.
As a side not other desktop programs (most notably windows explorer) won't start from the icon. I seem to remember this happening with another computer once and I had to do something to "reconnect" the links.
Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.

A:IE 7 doesn't run correctly

Hi .

I would open IE...Tools/Manage Add-ons...disable or remove everything reflected (based upon premise that one or more has damaged files which are screwing up IE. If you want to reinstall them...go ahead after removing everything.

To try to fix other problems...Start/Run...type chkdsk /r (space between k and /) and hit Enter. Type Y in response to onscreen query and hit Enter.

Reboot the system and let the command run to completion, it will boot into XP when completed.

In my experience with computers, the tab key has always allowed me to move from one text window to another simply by pressing the tab key. My keyboard has always done that until recently. Now when I use the tab key for any reason it takes me to a different window completely. For example if I were using word and paint. If I have minimized one to use the other and I push the tab key, it switches to the other program. Or if I'm on the web and am viewing more than one web site, if I press the tab key, it takes me to a different page instead of the next text box. I have an emachines keyboard. Updated to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 two weeks ago.
Had problems with Firefox. Tried to download to replace existing Firefox. CNET site appeared to be correct but something seemed wrong so I killed the download. But.
- The windows start menu doesn't come up when I click on the icon, but if I right-click, a text menu does appear and lets me, for example, shut down.
.- If I click on the Windows End icon in the task bar, the screen flashes but End does not come up. Ditto for the Windows Store icon.
- Somewhere SpyBot S&D was erased, but I was able to download it.
- If I double-click on a photo in Windows Explorer, I get a popup that lists the name of the jpeg and says Invalid Entry to Registry. If I right click on the photo and go to any of the options the photo is opened except if I choose Photo.
- Firefox cannot properly display the Yahoo mail page, though Pale Moon and Opera can.
- I have Avast Anti-Virus and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and when I run their scans, they find no issues.

SO there are a few issues that I need help with.

A:windows 10 problems - start menu doesn't appear, windows key doesn't work, etc

Hello,
Well the first thing you should try is to Run System Restore to before all of these problems started or to when you first installed Windows 10.
Then try to download Firefox from there website
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
Third thing is I would recommend to get rid of Avast it is low end and could be allowing virus I recommend ether McAfee or Norton Security.

Those are some things to think about
but it is all up to you when making your final decision

Hi, I have an XP SP3 machine that was recently infected with a few trojans and malware (my teenage kids). I *think* it has all been removed now but I still have the initial problem that got me looking at this computer in the first place - the Windows Installer service is not working correctly. I can't remove some applications found in Add/Remove Programs because of this. Also I can't run Windows Update with IE. It tries to register the files needed and fails by doing this over and over again and never getting beyond the initial steps.

Also I tried running SFC /SCANNOW and get an error message about missing files and wanted me to insert the XP CD. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not if SP3 has been installed. Should I go ahead and let SFC try to make corrections or are there other steps I should take first?

Thanks

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R Rev: 1.0
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz
Memory: Kingston DDR3 4096MB PC10666 1333MHz
BIOS EX58-UD3R F11
OS Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) 6.1.7601.17727 (Win7 RTM)

I bought 1 module Kingston DDR3 4096MB PC10666 1333MHz to run at 1066Mhz. Motherboard has 4 slots, I installed memory into the DDR3_1, so 3 another slots were empty. Bios auto detects the frequency of memory as 1066 (maximum frequency supported by my CPU), timings are 7-7-7-20, voltage is 1.5V. When I run my Windows 7 x64, the system works extremely slow, the memory isn't detected properly, indicator of RAM displays the load of 98-99%, all usb devices (including my mouse and keyboard) don't work at all. There are no viruses in the system, no unnecessary processes in task manager, the Win 7 works correctly with other Kingston memory modules.

My secondary operation system Win XP x86 detects 3.5Gb of this module and works ok.

How can I solve this problem?

A:My Win 7 x64 doesn't work correctly with DDR3

What memory did you have in there originally. the mobo should recognize this RAM, but I don't know if it is in the supported list: http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList...-ex58-ud3r.pdf

Looks like your BIOS (F11) is up to date, so that shouldn't be a problem

have you tried the RAM in different slots?

I would also suggest resetting your BIOS Settings to default, but I am not sure about it...

Hi there,

I cannot fathom what the issue is, the gpu runs at full load on games which is fine but performs poorly and doesn't get hot. It suggests to me that the gpu isn't getting the required voltage but its odd to say my gpu isn't getting hot enough at full load.

Skyrim runs at full load when the card is having its performance issues and runs at 42c. On a normal session it runs around 60c and fluctuates depending on the environment. 30/25fps average when the card isn't performing correctly and constant 60fps when it is performing optimally. On normal sessions fan speeds increase when temperatures do but when performing oddly it doesn't change.

I was first led to believe it was Afterburner giving incorrect readings but speedfan and other software has matching results and it correlates to the issues.

Is it a PSU issue? I cant find much info on this issue, maybe am being too specific and looking into the wrong area it's just peculiar.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Oh, I haven't overclocked the card and cpu is overclocked but has ran healthy for a long time.

A:560Ti doesn't perform correctly.

Prof Kerfuffle,

Use extreme Power Supply Calc to get an estimate. Looking at your specs I'm thinking you are probably close to the limit for your PSU, so that might be the issue.

In the past I used to just copy my stuff and then when Windows went up, you know slows down, get's corrupted somewhere, etc. I would reinstall windows and then my drives, apps, programs, files, etc. Upon my studies I learned that the default Windows backup could do these things as well as recover system state. Well I started doing backups every so often on my home PC and my server at work. The other day I actually needed to use it as my PC had this weird issue of clicking on icon executables and not ever running them. It would refuse to start programs from the executable in the folder under program files, under start menu, or command line. It wouldn't give an error it would just click and go away. Strange huh? It would do it once the computer was on for a while and for a week or two I just would reboot, but I mean come on, that's a little annoying.

So I had a backup but it was 8 months old, but it was made on the same machine. I go Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Backup to launch it. I figure I should at least try it if I'm studying MS systems to say I've done it. I choose restore, but not the wizard, choose return system to previous state by selecting the check mark for C and also for "System State". It returns icons on the desktop of what was their months back so I assume it worked, it asks to reboot, sure go ahead. I try to boot up again, and blue screen, back to BIOS, Select startup of windows pops up. Fine I th... Read more

I can't pinpoint when this problem happened, I think it was either after updating bios or moving my graphics card into a different slot, but I have 2 sticks of 4gb of ram. The motherboard will only read ram in the A1 slot. I have tried swapping out the ram and have determined its not the ram itself, it is (or i would assume to be) the motherboard. If I put them in A1-A2, the computer refuses to start correctly, giving me error code 55 on dr. debugger and the monitor won't turn on. If I do A1 - B1 or A1 - B2, the computer will start correctly, but only reads 1 4gb stick. It's an Asus Z87 extreme4 motherboard.

Hello, my problem is some of the icons everywhere in windows (desktop, explorer ...) aren't being resized properly. For example, on the desktop, I have icon that has various scales like 48x48 and 64x64 (the default steps, and several other), but windows just refuses to acknowledge their existence and in stead downscales or upscales icons on it's own, resulting in uglyness. It has poor quality and doesn't choose correct image from the icon file no matter what size i set my desktop icons at.
It's like that in explorer too, for example in list view where they should be 16x16, it downscales from an other size, instead of choosing the existing 16x16 icon.

I have windows 7 ultimate x64.
Here is visual example.

Hello Oredaze, and welcome to Seven Forums.

For the icon to scale properly to all sizes, the icon needs to be a 256x256 Vista styled icon.

Hope this helps,
