running winxp

tried tweaking some startup stuff to cut down on what was running to help speed up my comp and deleted some unused programs, which i think must have had the dll file in it....

dunno what i did wrong as i thought i turned everything back to the way it was but im still getting this stupid error, again i am thinking the notification dll files were possibly in one of the old programs i deleted

"Notification dll
has not been registered program will not work correctly"

immediate upon bootup and starting to access my desktop i get that error

network connections is empty

i cannot drag and drop now either

i cannot access any wireless connection to get online with that laptop and download any fixes or anything

tried a few other fixes i found elsewhere, none worked and gave me this message when i tried

ethernet adapter wireless network connection 2:
media state........:media disconnected

ethernet adapter local area connection:
media state........:media disconnected

and if its relevant and helps solve it, as soon as i hit enter, i can get around on y desktop minus the toolbar, yet immediately it pops up not one but two of the same folders system32

and in the services section,it will not let me start alot of the various services that seem like they need to be running to access my wireless stuff

any help is appreciated,thanks

My operating system is windows xp. I have been using an external dvd player for at least 8 or 9 months. A few days ago, I attempted to burn a dvd, but it would not indicate a source drive to me nor would it highlight copy. I felt that something was wrong with it and decided that I would burn some music instead. Windows media player also would not rip the cd. A window popped up indicating that it did not recognize that the computer has a drive for ripping and burning cds.

This prompts me to go back to my external dvd player. I uninstall it, and attempt to reinstall it. I get a code 19-configuration information in the registry is incomplete or damaged. I searched online and went to fixbyweb. I explain the situation. They sent me a supposed fix, but things are the same. I was told by fixbyweb, to go to system restore and restore the computer to a time before I uninstalled the DVD burner. But for each restore point that I went to, there were no changes to my computer. I went to all restore points that were available And the fix still did not work, so I am out $39.99.

So if there is a remedy, would you PLEASE, PLEASE help me fix this situation? I have spent money twice in 2 days time trying to fix this, and I'll be a pauper and still will have the same problem. And I will have to write down what you tell me, cause I don't have any ink for the printer, cause thats too expensive too. Thanks in advance.

Try deleting the registry keys that are mentioned in this article:

Note that after you do this you may have to reinstall your CD\DVD burning software.

Windows 10 updates including KB3124262 fail when accompanied by updates to AMD ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 and HP w2338h monitor updates. I have the home edition and I have seen other threads indicating there is no way to selectively update with that version. The KB3124262 update is apparently successful, but the latter 2 fail because of the database corruption and all updates are removed. This has been occurring nightly and if I leave my computer on overnight(which is my normal procedure), I cannot 'wakeup' the monitor and have to force a shutdown and reboot when installed updates are removed and it is like groundhog day the next day. I bought a product Reimage that is advertised to fix this issue, but I could find nothing changed after I ran it. Does anyone have a solution?

Hey there,

I'm running XP Home SP2 and the other day I got the following error while Windows was loading:

Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system.

DETAIL - The configuration registry database is corrupt.
The error message would count down from 30 seconds and then proceed to loading windows. However the task bar won't work properly; Pressing the windows key would open/close the Start menu, and it stays blank not showing any programs that are running [e.g. MS Word] Things like drag and drop don't work when I try to move icons across the Desktop.

So far I've tried to use the System Restore to go back to when it worked, however I get this message in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode:

System Restore is not able to protect your computer. Please restart your computer, and then run System Restore again.

I've also tried booting up in safe mode and deleting the ntuser.dat for the corrupt User Profile. However this didn't help to fix it so I'd tried restoring the file but it won't move from the Recycle Bin, not even by copy and paste. I've gone into Control Panel and tried to create a new User Profile, so I could just copy all my files from the corrupt profile into the new one. However the User Accounts window just appears as blank, I've included a screen shot below:

Is there any other I can go about making a new Profile, or even another method I can do... Read more

I allow my computer to remain 'on' at all times.

Yesterday, after using it early in the morning, when I returned to use it later in the day, I was unable to get it out of the 'sleep' mode.

Since I don't have a reboot button on my computer, I had to remove the cord from the rear of the compter to shut it down.

After waiting a minute or so, I replugged the cord and turned on the computer.

I received the following message...

User Environment:

"Windows cannot find the user's profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system."

The following message then appeared before the computer was completely rebooted and ready for use:

"The configuration registry data base is corrupt."

However, I was able to 'get online'......

I also learned this:

After using my computer, if I returned to it for use within 15 minutes or so, I was able to 'arouse it from sleep' with no trouble. Yet, if I allowed longer periods of time to elapse between uses, I could not get it out of the 'sleep' mode. I had to remove the power cord from the back of the computer.

I permitted the computer to remain 'on' over night (last night). This morning I was unable to get it out of the 'sleep' mode. Again, I had to shut it down by removing the power cord from the back of the computer.

When I repluged the computer and turned it on, I received the following message:

this is moksha, ihave a problem i.e.,when i start my computer is showing the msg of user environment -the configuration registry database is corrupt and the windows cannot load the users profile but has logged on wih a temporary profile...
i can't understand what it is meant by and what to do? please ,send me the reply as soon as possible.
thanking you,
your's faithfully,

A:Solved: The configuration registry database is corrupt

Your user profile is part of your user account, it is damaged, so windows loads a temporary profile for that user account, so it can l;oad the desktop and make the PC somewhat useable.

If it is XP home, boot the PC into safe mode, then go to Control Panel>Users

Create a new user account and give it administrator priveledges. This needs to be done before doing anything else, it is important.

Once the new account is created, restart the PC and log into the new account, once it logs in and creates the new user profile and loads the desktop (may take some time) restart the PC in "Safe mode with comand prompt"

Once safe mode is loaded, there will be a black command prompt open, type the following red text into the cmd window and hit enter key, this will start the system restore process, pick a date Before the problem started hopefully this will repair the corrupt user account.

Once this restore process is done, restart the PC, log into the old user account, see if will load. If it is good now, you are done.

For some reason my Windows 7 Home Premium (32bit) PC is now refusing to operate the DVD ROM and DVD RW Drives. A suspect the latest update to iTunes as they were working fine till the automatic install for that failed. Had to do it manually & that went with some hiccoughs, needing to "Retry" to get it to complete successfully.

The problem is when I try and use a DVD drive you hear it react to the disc, but Autoplay does not run.

Checking in the Device Manager on the General Tab, there is the following message (for both drives)
<< Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged (Code 19) >>

I checked this on the Internet and tried as suggested going to Device manager and Uninstalling both drives. Restarting my PC and letting the "Found New Hardware" re-install them.

Sadly this failed...
Optiarc DVD RW AD-7240S ATA Device Failed
TSST corp DVD-ROM SH-D 162D ATA Device Failed

I then checked whether the driver software for the Device was up to date. It reported that the software for the device is up to date.

Next I ran the Troubleshooter and tried re-installing the driver software which it suggested might fix the problem .... only to be met with <<Device Driver Software not Successfully installed>>
I have also tried running the Microsoft Fix It tool .... MicrosoftFixit.dvd.MATSKB.Run.exe
Still no luck :-( I have attached a file with the details of... Read more

Hi all, I was reading these 2 threads about people who have been having trouble deleting stubborn registry keys:

"Error while deleting key" Registry
Can't delete a registry key and can't change its permissions.

Unfortunately they were locked so I couldn?t post a reply.

I have tried everything previously, including all this permission stuff from over here: How do I remove a "Locked" Registry key? - Mischel Internet Security Forum just wasted a lot of time.

Also tried regdelnull RegDelNull also tried RegASSASSIN: Malwarebytes

Nothing worked.

So guys, after reading from over here Malwarebytes Forum > RegAssassin didn't work ?

Try these steps:

Step 1. Download this: (if a bit wary, follow these instructions to do the same yourself manually: Solving setup errors by using the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions - Aaron Stebner's WebLog - Site Home - MSDN Blogs )

Step 2. Then run the reset.cmd within it, allow it to complete may take around an hour or so.

NB: If you do not have below file of spupdsvc.exe then just do a normal restart and skip to step 5.

Step 3. Reboot your computer into Safe Mode (tap F8 at BIOS screen) then after it's loaded navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spupdsvc.exe

Step 4. Find the file spupdsvc.exe and replace the extension from .exe to .old, after doing the this file should look as: C:\Windows\System32\sp... Read more

Hello there. I hope I have posted this message in the right area. This morning I fired up my pc to find an error greeting me. It was that windows was missing a configuration file. I rebooted a couple of times then it came back up.

Once it did tho, it went through reloading all my hardware. Everything was fine so I thought. I then realized there was no sound. Xp is showing the Realtek onboard sound card there, indicating under Audio Devices, Properties that "This device is working properly" and "Driver is enabled but has not been started". However, under the main Volume tab it shows "No Audio Device".

I have verified under Services that Windows Audio is started and running (set to 'Automatic'). I have attempted to remove and resintall the device, tried alternate drivers, all to no avail. Any suggestions or recommendations on how to proceed would be so greatly appreciated!

Hey there,

I'm on windows XP

when it comes to installing many new applications (not pirated or anything) I get this error

This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

It has happened both for the new MSN (Im stuck using windows messenger) and Ableton Live 8.03

I've obviously tried reinstalling a whole bunch of times, but no luck. Is my only option here reformat, could it be something viral? Or something more simple (i hope!)

Cheers and thanks a lot

A:0662 Configuration Change Error

I work on several of these. Really bad design. Very crowded, no air circulation (heat) and underpowered (poor voltage=hard drive errors, system file corruption, etc...)
I assume you've tried this procedure:

If the settings do not "stick" I would do the following:

Reseat the RAM.
Remove CMOS battery, clear CMOS (test battery while it's out. If it's low, replace it.)
Try disconnecting all peripherals (hard drive and optical drive) and see if the problem changes or stays the same.
If you can't get the symptom to change at all, I'd try reflashing the BIOS as a last resort. The motherboard might be bad. Might be power supply. Those power supplies cost more than the whole box is worth. Is this your machine?

Any suggestions?

A:I have a configuration error that is preventing me from printing.

If you can still print from other applications but not Live Mail then it sounds like something's wrong with Live Mail accessing the printer. Maybe a re-installation of Live Mail is necessary.
My guess is if you provide more info on what exactly it is that keeps you from printing you'll get more feedback here.
Is there an error message? Or any other info to go by?

I have a laptop that on my wireless school network would connect fine and automatically. The network is a guest network so it is unsecured. I recently had to reinstall the operating system on my laptop to fix several access rights errors and others (reinstalled Vista). I would like to say hello to everybody here. I have a problem. My problem is the nasty dredful Code Purple Configuration Error for HP. I have been working on a HP Pavilian mini tower, and I ended up having to destructive restore it. I then restart the tower, and I get this Config Error code Purple. I don't mess with HP very much (I compac/HP) I have also did my research on the problem, and I know its got a tatoo on the mother board(haven't added any hardware, and the reason for the restore everytime I tried to logon, it would say saving settings and restart) Of course this computer hasn't came with a restore disk, its on a partition of its own. I know their was a lawsuit over HP sending restore disk, and I also know I need to put the hardrive in a different tower and delete a bin file. Here's the problem. I have been fighting with hp over this restore disk and wanting me to pay for tech support. I feel I shouldn't pay for tech support because this problem was caused by them. My question is there away to fix this easier than the other ways shown on this forum. I never have hook up a hp hard drive to a different tower(which I don't think will post any problems, but then when deleting bin files or even locating these file. I am not too comfortable with doing. Will someone either let me know a easy way to fix this or instruct me in which is the best way and the step to fix it. I recently booted up my Gateway notebook only to find the "blue screen of death"

I rebooted and it came up to a windows boot manager screen which says windows failed to start..insert installation disc and click repair to fix...blah blah...i'm sure you know the story...

My question is, I booted the Vista disc and when I click repair it doesn't even find the C: drive...when I try and run the BCD fix from the command prompt screen, it says it found 0 Windows installations...would this indicate a faulty hard drive?? If so, I dont mind replacing the drive, I just wanna make sure this is the issue before I spend the money to replace it...

Much thanks for any help anyone can offer!

A:Boot Configuration Data Error

I'm not sure what BCD fix you tried, but see if it is this one and if not, try this one.

To run the Bootrec.exe tool, you must start Windows RE. To do this, follow these steps: (you need a Vista Installation Disk to do this)

1. Put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press a key when you are prompted.
3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer.
5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
7. Type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.

Note If rebuilding the BCD does not resolve the startup issue, you can export and delete the BCD, and then run this option again. By doing this, you make sure that the BCD is completely rebuilt. To do this, type the following commands at the Windows RE command prompt:
 bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
 c:
 cd boot
 attrib bcd -s -h -r
 ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd

See if that works.

If you don't have the disk (or that didn't work), try EasyBCD and see if that helps resolve the problem.

If that doesn't work, you probably have some type of hardware problem - but it's hard to tell. It may be as simple as the hard drive cable got disconnected a... Read more

I've been having Kernal data inpage error which I assume is from a faulty harddrive (or maybe the RAM?!). I occasionally get a disk check during bootup, which didn't seem to help. I was saving up to buy a hybrid SSD/HDD drive before replacing it, but now it seems a bit too late.

Yesterday after a windows update, I rebooted my computer and the desktop was running very slow, nothing would open, explorer.exe would crash, I would be stuck in desktop until I force shutdown by holding the power switch (Shutdown didnt work), after doing this once or twice, I now get a BSOD again with a registry error right after the desktop loads for 1-2 seconds. X051 error code I think.

What step should I take now to diagnose the problem?

This a.m. I was greeted by this System Configuration Utility message popup:

You have used the System Configuration Utility to make changes to the way Windows starts.

The System Configuration Utility is currently in Diagnostic or Selective Startup mode, causing this message to be displayed and the Utility to run every time Windows starts.

Choose the Normal Startup mode on the General tab to start Windows normally and undo the changes you made using the system Configuration Utility.

Yesterday I used the system configuration utility to untick a program in the Startup menu. Is that why I am getting this message now?

If I follow the directions and select the Normal Startup option, will all the services that I have painstakingly turned off over time start running on startup again? Or will it just load the one application it changed?

Could I restore the registry from a few days ago instead? And, if I do that, will the tracking cookies I finally got rid of by setting them to be deleted at start-up reappear?

Another question I have is, what is the utility used for, if not to make changes? Is it just to look at? What good is it then?

i've had a heck of a time getting my PC to work properly since i accidently loosened my PCI tray when trying to install a new video card. because of that, my original modem quit working. i've since finally got the video card working and my other modem working by juggling PCI slots and re-installing drivers.

but now every time i start my PC, i get a nagging "plug and play configuration error" that won't let me get into windows until i push f1 or f2. i tried f2 once, but couldn't make heads or tails of the technobabble.

today i tried removing the onboard video card from my system, but now my PC is trying to reinstall it! no means no! aside from that, i'm still getting the erros.

where and how do i fix these errors, and make my PC quit trying to reinstall hardware i don't want it to use? as far as i'm concerned, when i shut something off, my PC should OBEY and not argue with me.

i searched all over to find where i could turn that darned card off as win 98 won't let me remove it in control panel>display (which should LOOK like a control panel and not a toolbox which is why i can never remember what it's called) which also has a second driver for my new video card as i made the mistake of installing the driver before the card the 1st time. maybe THAT is the error, but i can't find anyplace to remove video drivers like i could for modems.

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium -- Service Pack 1, 64-bit
Browser: IE 9
Computer: Dell Studio 1745

I am receiving an error message window titled "Wireless Configuration" with the following message:

"OLE initialization failed. Make sure that the OLE libraries are the correct version."

I cannot find anything about updating OLE libraries in Windows 7. I have not installed any new software, and my computer is barely 2 years old. I do not find it a coinicidence that my free Dell tech support expired last month, and now I'm having issues with the Dell wireless card.

Thanks for any help you could provide.

I apologize if this post appears disjointed, I can't seem to get the browser to properly show spacing. So I was browsing the internet normally, then all of the sudden, I'm disconnected. When I reconnected, I was able to access the network, but unable to connect to the internet. After attempting to diagnose the issue, I got the "There may be a problem with your Domain Name Server Configuration." ... can't connect to well known host

I know the server isn't down, since I can use another computer to access the internet. I've tried flushing the DNS cache, I've tried inputting the DNS IP manually, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, nothing worked.

I don't have access to the router, as I'm using a Motel network. I’m using Vista SP2, I am using a Netgear Wireless Adapter: WNDA 3100. Shown below are the results of Ipconfig, and NBTSTAT -N.

I resurrected a Dell 8200 and it was working fine until I tried to connect a ViewSonic 23" monitor. Suddenly I got the "plug and play configuration error, strike f1 or f2, etc." Can't make heads or tails out of it so I powered off then back on then hit f12 when the Dell logo came up. I am now at the DOS prompt as I'm sure something can be done from here. Anybody have a recipe I can follow to get this thing booted up? I really need this old machine to work as it is the only computer I have that will talk to my Konica Minolta color laser printer, but that's the subject for another thread.

I cannot download TSG SysInfo on a computer that won't boot.

I'm hoping that I just misunderstood what you typed and you weren't connecting the monitor while the PC was powered ON. If not, lesson learned. Aside from Plug and Play hardware, don't connect/disconnect anything while the PC is powered ON.

With that said, try manually clearing the CMOS. If you need step by step instructions, they should be available on the Dell website.

Hello all,

I was wondering if there was any way to solve the Dell Plug & Play Configuration Error on startup. I've read that it has to do with the IRQ, the CMOS battery or maybe even a bad motherboard.

I've got a monitor/color problem. It's tinted green and it's dull. Could this be a symptom?

I'm pretty tech savvy but I don't know much about editing the BIOS.

Does anyone know if this can be fixed? I'm going to reformat the HD anyways. Do you think that will help?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

I get an error message when I open Itunes. It says "Itunes has detected a problem with audio/video configuration..." and that the audio video may not play correctly.

I have uploaded some cd's to Itunes and I have noticed the sound has skips in it.

Also, my daughter wanted to open some pictures from a disc but the disc wouldn't work. I took the disc to work and opened the pictures fine.

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 running XP. I do not have any other problems with the machine.

Are there diagnostic programs that I might try to correct this problem, or do I need to replace the cd drive?

Ok so, first of all I hate subnetting. Secondly, please find the attached picture. Now, the configuration error in this diagram is 'the subnet mask is improperly connecteed for the network'.

Please someone put me wrong, but so far I think this network will still operate, It just wont make use of having 2 different subnetworks. With the mask of /27, all client computers fall into one IP range, which is - The answer also states that a subnet mask of /28 should be used. If /28 is used, then Client A & B will be in their own IP range, and clients C & D will fall into their own IP range aswell.

As it stands, without rectifying the mask this network should still operate correct?

Thanks in advance guys!

I have done everything i possibly can that i know of using the internet (F10, F5 F8 etc), i even called and got no help except more it will cost you $60 to get a number and i asked what is the number for where? No answer Last week, the computer no longer got past the microsoft logo (note no discs of any kind came with the computer, just it the mouse and the keyboardy from Best Buy) and no there isn't extra warranty on it. Ok i did system recovery, didn't work, system restor to last point it was working didn't work. Now it has obviosuly recognized i did a recovery so it goes to the logo screen and then the white box "Configuration Number Error)" comes up. Tells me to call HP to obtain it and the story goes on. Is there any backdoor tricks to obtain the config number, or of any fixes you know.I was wondering if it was a complete hard drive fail.  Any help is grealty appreciated! Thanks,Rosemary

I have a Dell 8250 running XP. I haven't installed anything on my computer lately; however, when I started the computer this morning, I got 3 plug & play configuration error lines followed by the f1 or F12 option.

When I go into my device manager, both the NVIDIA Geforce 4 MX420 display adaptor and the VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller say they cant find enough resources and are giving a code 12 error. Can anyone help me get this straightened out? Liike I said, this started out of the blue, without me installing anything new.

Several times, and only from a cold boot, I get a pop-up stating "Boot Configuration Editor Has Stopped Working" However everything loads okay and functions. What might be causing this and what does it mean. IE: What function does this editor serve?
