IE 9 Downloaded, Not Opening

Q: IE 9 Downloaded, Not Opening

Hello. Thank you for offering this forum of help! I have run Malwarebytes, Spybot, spyware doc, and Auslogics.

Downloaded new IE 9 yesterday. Click on IE 9 icon but IE 9 does not start. I read that one problem may be registry, missing files from older IE, or spyware, so saw using Hijack This as a possible option. I notice right at the start it states "MSIE: Unable to get Internet Explorer version!"

Thank you for any suggestions you can offer. I really appreciate your knowledge because I'd love to use IE 9.

Here is my log:

I am not a very tech-savvy person. I need your help. I installed a software for my magnetometer on my laptop. (A magnetometer is an instrument for geophysical purposes) I downloaded the software from the equipment manufacturer's site (GEMLinkplus Software for Magnetometers and Gradiometers - Gem Systems ) Unfortunately, the software is not working on my laptop. The installation was successful but I can't open it. I am unsure if it is non-compatible on windows 10 or if it is any other problem? I need help to fix this.
FYI, I use DELL Inspiron, Intel Core i3, 4 GB RAM.

Hello everyone,

Everytime I open a downloaded file, I see a ASCII Filter options window. The document opens up to a bunch of symbols that I do not understand. I have Open Office and the problem may be connected to that program. Anyone know how fix this problem. I have been researching this issue for a bit but have no luck finding a solution.

I've keep reading where you all recommend running HiJackthis so I downloaded it
Before download I disabled:
avg anti-virus
sygate firewall
pop-up stopper
joi express - a speed up thing from my ISP
I enabled all the java stuff
Went to explorer and told it to show all files
Then when I try to open the dll - msvbvm60.dll
I get the "open with" screen.
Doesn't this mean I don't have the program that this needs to open it?
I had already unzipped it.
You all are the greatest!

I downloaded Version 3.01.1 of Firefox from Mozilla in order to replace Version 3.5, which was malfunctioning with graphics problems. However, I could not istall it as I was given the message that the downloaded file was from an Unknown Publisher and that there was no digital signature or that the signature was invalid. It asked me if I wanted to install anyway so I said yes. However it would not execute and said it would notify MSft of the problem.

I've tried downloading other files, Avast for example, and got the same message(s). I went to tools/internet options/Advanced/Security and checked "Allow software to run or install even if the signature is invalid" and unchecked "Check for sinatures on downloaded programs". This didn't work either.

I would appreciate any help on this.

Here is a new one, It started with a simple crash of a game which crashed my entire steam and froze up when I wanted to run the application. I followed the steps of running a command such as regedit and go on from there, but regedit says 'The Service failed to respond in a timely fashion.' Weird, I know. So I tried downloading R-Kill as well as some other anti virus software's, which in a result gave me the same issue, or didn't respond at all. I try to click on system restore and nothing happens. I tried opening up task manager and the program didn't respond either. Several years behind a computer and never experienced this weird problem before. I'm running out of idea's on how to solve this problem all help will be greatly appreciated.

I added a picture attachment so you may view the problem I am facing, thank you!

hello! I am hoping someone can help me ASAP. I am running windows Vista, and I have been trying to figure out how to resolve this, but everything has failed. After factory restore on my PC (it was used), i installed all updates on the PC, except Java,
which had to be done via internet. i attempted to do so. Failed. The download shows it is downloading, then shows up in downloaded files. HOWEVER, i cannot open said files, and they do not show up in my system ANYWHERE. i have no idea what is going on as even
other downloads wont open. i even tried doing the microsoft FIXIT, and it wont allow that to be downloaded either. so i ran a system check via the command prompt suggestion i found and it found corrupted files that the system itself could not fix. when i went
to try and prompt it to see the log for more information, it said it could not open it. ("cannot open 'c:/cbs.log'") What is going on with my computer and how do i fix it?????

Use 'System Restore'.

Type Restore into the Start menu search box.

If this problem happened a day or so ago, check the box 'Choose a different restore point'. Choose the most recent date prior to the problem.

A:Opening A Downloaded Program Get A Error Message

Hello and to BC

First and foremost about this, have you scanned your computer for Any sort of malware before / after doing this download as it may be infected, Just a thought

Secondly, what type of program are you trying to download, if its a simple program such as an AV , or a free game or something like that, from a trusted site, it should not be giving you an error such as that

if its an older exe file maybe it just won't work with your xp, Just a couple of thoughts to toss out there
Hope to hear from you soon

I have recently downloaded a supposed video file from a file sharing website. The video was split into 2 parts and appeared to be a RAR file. When it downloaded i ran it through a RAR decompresion application (RARzilla free) that i have used to open RAR files before but it would not recognise the video file as a RAR file and could not open it. When i looked at the file properties the file type says 'File' not RAR or any other familiar type.
The files in question seem to be proper files, they took time to download and are of a signifiacent size, so there is apparently content within them. I would just like to know how to open them and play the video i (at least thought) i was downloading.
What do i need to do or what software do i need to download to make this work.
The website i used to access the videos is:
But the videos are actualy hosted here:
If this helps.... Thanks

A:Opening a Downloaded Video File - help needed

Look at the file extention of the files you downloaded. It should end with a .rar,if it does not then rename the file.Doesn't matter what you name the file, won't change the packing. For example,if you downloaded 2 files rename them to 1.rar and 2.rar.If it's not corrupt it will unpack.Let us know if it works for you.

Hello. Today I downloaded a video that had been converted online into WMV, and when I played it in the Media Player, it wasn't what I wanted, so I deleted it from its source file. However, now it's staying listed in that Now Playing List to the right of the main Library, and sometimes, when I go to open the player, I can't even get it onto the Library screen in the first place because it freezes up trying to load the first Now Playing video screen, with that darn video. And I managed to righ-click it in the Now Playing list and click Remove from List, and it was gone, but I opened it other times after and it's still there! I'm not certain that it is the cause of the freezing, but it may be.

I woke up, and, as has been the case a few times in the last month or so, my computer had some strange spyware stuff. I quickly googled the fix for it, and began to scan with MBAM, however, instead of finishing, and letting me cleanup the problem, it closed, and restarted my computer.

On restart it had disabled taskmanager and registry editing, as well as blocking any programs I was trying to run to fix it (AVG/MBAM). Before fixing that I restarted in safemode and did a scan with AVG. It found several problems and removed them.

On entering standard windows again, the same problems persisted. I managed to restore access to my registry and task manager, but that's it so far.

I've been trying to diagnose and fix my problems for the last 3 hours or so, but everytime i've tried a fix, it hasn't worked.

Running MBAM works up until I hit scan. It looks like it's about to start, then closes, and whenever I try to open it again I get the error:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may no have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

Reinstalling MBAM "fixes" that error, but it just repeats if I try to scan again.

If you cannot get DDS to work, please try this instead. Please download RSIT by random/random and save it to your Desktop.Note: You will need to run this tool while connected to the Internet so it can download HijackThis if it is not located on your system. If you get a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding Rist attempting to contact the Internet, please allow the connection.Close all applications and windows so that you have nothing open and are at your Desktop.Double-click on RSIT.exe to start the program. If using Windows Vista, be sure to Run As Administrator.Click Continue after reading the disclaimer screen.Leave the drop down box set to default: "List/folders created or modified in the last 1 month (30 days). When the scan is complete, a text file named log.txt will automatically open in Notepad.Save the log file to your desktop and copy/paste the contents into a new topic in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum, NOT here.Important: Be sure to mention that you tried to follow the Prep Guide but were unable to get DDS to run.If RSIT did not work, then reply back here.

This has suddenly happened in the last week. All I can think of is that I installed the most current version of Firefox recently.

I don't know if these problems are connected, but first of all, iTunes and Quicktime won't open. No error messages, just doesn't open.
I have tried disabling "bonjour", whatever that is, no dice. I've followed the advice I've found by searching through this forum, but iTunes.exe isn't currently running in task manager. Someone on apple support suggested deleting certain system files, but that didn't work. I've reset the computer after each change and nothing works.

Also, google maps displays a "We are sorry, but we don't have maps at this zoom level..." at every zoom level. I can't access google support to fix the problem, but elsewhere I've read that I have to reset zoom level, clear my cache...
Clearing my cache has wiped my logins, and now I can't log into my youtube account, since that's run through google and nothing google loads for me in Firefox for some reason.
I can't uninstall/reinstall Firefox because I only have Firefox as a web browser. I can't download google chrome, because the site doesn't load.
Weirdly, I can't even download IE8, What the hell's going on here?

I would really like to avoid doing a full system restore or moving all my files/settings to a new user profile. I'm not exactly computer smart, but I think I'm missing something... Please help.

I am using Firefox on Windows XP Pro performance edition... Read more

Go to Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl and press enter. In the Add Remove Programs uninstall Bonjour, iTunes, Qucktime and every other Apple software. Restart the computer.
You may think you only have Firefox, but you have Internet Explorer too. (it's integrated into Windows) in IE Download Firefox and save the install file to your desktop, (don't run it) Now in Add Remove Programs uninstall Firefox. Now restart the computer. When you come back up, do a search for iTunes, Quicktime, Bonjour etc. and Firefox and Delete all instances of it and empty the Recycle bin. Install Firefox from the saved install file. Now download iTunes, and Quicktime.

About every three months my laptop does this. Here are the problems I've noticed:
1. Chrome will not open or take extremely long to load.
2. When I click on firewall it does not respond and Windows explorer has to be restarted.
3. Audio/video is very laggy, but only on certain programs.
4. Desktop lets me click icon once, but then cannot click any icons until I restart explorer.
I have fixed this problem multiple times.
The cause was usually Windows defender needing an update. As soon as I updated it, everything worked normally again.
Another time, the solution was running Hitman Pro or MalwareBytes, which also made it work again.
This time I can't get anything to work.
I have tried:
1. Updating windows defender
2. Updating Java
3. Checking to make sure firewall service was running
4. Running a malware scan using Hitman Pro and MalwareBytes
I know there has to be something else I can do but I'm not sure what to do next.
I'm running Windows 8.1 64-bit

Hello guys,

Recently the windows store stopped working for me, well I say recently but I hadn't used it in a long time till recently so I don't know for how long it has actually been out of commission.

When I try to open it it will flash for a second before quickly closing. Searching the internet for solutions has shown me that this is a known issue.

So far I've tried a large number of things to try and fix it:

-Tried Windows Powershell
-Tried Win store Troubleshooter
-Tried making a new Microsoft account
-Tried using a local account
-Tried clearing the store cache and deleting its folders
-Tried messing around in regedit thinking it may be a permission issue
-Tried Win store reset
-Tried disabling firewall + antivirus and trying powershell + reset
-Tried a clean install of Windows 10

Nothings worked so far, so any new solutions would be greatly appreciated

I do a lot of data manipulation between one spreadsheet/ text file and another. Some of the files I have are '.txt' in extension which I open by right clicking and selecting 'Open with Excel'.

Annoyingly, since I got a new pc with Windows 7 on it this results in a new instance of Excel opening instead of using the instance I already have open. So it tells me my personal macro workbook is already in use, I have to select read only to continue, and then the real problem of not being able to refer to the workbook from the workbook I already have open starts. I am usually trying to vlookup one data table to another, but since this problem started I cannot select the other instance of excel in the formula bar and have to manually copy all the data to the workbook of Excel I already have open.

Is there an option or workaround to avoid this? Why would I want to open more than one instance of Excel anyway when I can open multiple workbooks in one instance?

A:How can I stop Excel opening new instances when opening a txt file

Anyone? Is this just another case of MS trying to drive me mental by randomly adding uphelpful bugs with each release and not fixing the ones we have been complaining about for years?

In my team at work we use a shared timesheet that only one user can access at a time (if another user tries to access they receive a message asking if they would like to read-only or be notified when the other user has closed the file).

Today, when opening the file from either the desktop shortcut or from explorer, two versions of the same file open, although the secondary version always opens on the same tab, whereas the other one remains on where the file was last saved.

If i go to Windows menu, the files are listed as:
timesheet.xls:1 and

Any ideas on what may have caused this and more importantly, how to fix this?

Many thanks

Hi Guys,

You've helped me once before with this problem, however, it's starting all over.

Whenever I try to open a page (Ex: Google, MSN or anything), it takes forever for the page to open, if at all. I had this problem once before and one of the techs suggested that I run SUPER AntiSpyware, which I did. Amazingly, this took care of the problem and my pages were loading extremely fast. However, within the last week my computer slowed down to a crawl and it's almost impossible to use. I am very careful what I download to my computer, so as not to get any viruses. The problem is, that I need my computer for my work and right now it's impossible to use, so I need your help.

Have you noticed it's also Amazon, eBay and other similar websites?
I think it's something to do with secure websites (SSL).

Also, this works for some people and not others (didn't for me):

system running : windows XP professional with sp3

okay, as the title implies, while surfing the internet a tab appeared in the firefox window that said "Updating..." but never showed/displayed anything. After that, I noticed the windows start/tool bar had changed from the XP theme version to the classic version. Then i noticed that there was no network connectivity. When I tried to look up what was wrong, the properties, rename, and delete options have been disabled from the right-click menu.
I received a message that there was attempt to update registry but whatever was done was restored, then my PC reboot.
what I've done so far:
I tried to boot using the windows xp CD but nothing happens. Windows eventually boots up, but I don't get any options to run repair or anything.
Used CA anti-virus for scan and found nothing (did this again in safe mode and still found nothing)
I did a search to see if I could find what was modified, it shows that all user accounts including a Helpassist?? account have been updated in some form or fashion so i don't know what else to do

I see svchost.exe, services.exe, and system taking up 50% of CPU occasionally but not sure what to make of that.

to get the internet started I tried to turn on some network services but all failed due to 'timeout'

Please let me know any ideas, or how to get started on trying to fix this problem.

other pcs are connected to the internet just fine.

32bit will only see 4gigs of ram and usually only be able to use abt 3.3 its also a bit slower depending on how you use it. when changing from one OS format (32bit) to another (64bit) it has to be a clean install.

Now about restoring you may have a backup there and available but since you are 32 bit and it isnt you cant use it. If you were to reinstall vista 64 it probably be available

Hello. I downloaded the new sp3 update yesterday and followed all the instructions and i was ready to restart my computer. When i did, everything went fine until after the loading screen it gave me a blue error screen. Since i needed the computer in working order, I used a pc recovery tool (pressed F10 when it started up) and did a non-destructive recovery which took about 20 minutes. Then after that was done i had to restart and do the windows first start up thing. Then i finally finished and saw that all of my custom features and files were no where to be found! All my applications and games that i downloaded are still in shape, but all of the custom features (like background, WMP playlists, Updates) were all gone. so is there any whay which i can restore my old settings? I need to have all my original settings as soon as i can please .

Hi cloud366, it sounds like you have done a repair install. When you pressed F10, did you choose Last Known Good Configuration from the boot menu?

Also, check in C:\Documents and Settings for a duplicate profile. It could be that your original profile has corrupted and Windows built you a new one.

All those type of "custom features" live in your local profile.

I downloaded a program yesterday and ran it but nothing happened. Then I read comments on a video of it and someone said it was most likely a RAT and another guy saying it was probably a virus. I can provide the file if that will help. I don't want a RAT.

I took advantage of the student offer of Windows 7 and last night downloaded windows 7. I thought that because my laptop was 64 bit capable I could do a clean install to it from the download, which I now obviously realise was a mistake.

Does anyone know how I can change this download for a 32 bit version?

A:Downloaded 64 bit but need 32 bit

Why can't you install 64bit? Have you tried and got an error?

A:Think I Downloaded Something, Help

Hello and welcome to BleepingComputer I don't see any malware there. Some points:Do you have a bought license for Norton? Or did you get it for free? The reason I'm asking is, it's a really heavy app for an antivirus. You can install a better antivirus that's waaaay lighter and easier for the computer, and takes less ram and actually is more efficient too.So, I recommend uninstalling Symantec's products and installing AntiVir (That's the promotion license for AntiVir Premium -- 6 months for free. You can get their free edition here) or Avast! instead.Another valid point: when did you install Service Pack 3? There has been several flaws with it.. Some people have really bad problems with SP3, I seem to be one of the lucky ones with no issues. Did you notice the problems after installing it?Also have a read through THIS TOPIC.Finally.....Click Start >> Run and paste in:"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /daftClick OK.Click OK to the prompt from Deckard's System Scanner.Click Scan.Checkmark every entry found.Click Fix.Let me know how you get on.

I was working trying to fix my DVDFab express tonight, and I was using a keygenerator... bad I know... but anyways, I ended up downloading and installing something that made my desktop wallpaper go to white and flicker... THe program initiated a msdos looking window with an error message that asked me if I wanted to abort... I couldn't choose anything and had to reboot... that's when I found it had erased my wallpaper and I couldn't get it fixed.. i knew it was some kind of malicious program...

so i came to you guys and I have followed all your steps... My wallpaper is back and I think I have gotten rid of most stuf, but my computer is still running kind of weird, slow, just not the same....

I have ran Adaware SE Personal, Spybot, Notron Anti-Virus, Kapersky Online Scanner, CWShredder, and Spyware Blaster... Please see if something else is on there...

Clear these three items in HJT and rescan:

If they are still present, then download MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and while you are there grab the RogueRemoverFree as well. FileASSASSIN is under More Tools in Anti-Malware, and can actually delete the files while in use. Run that if the files wont delete or keep showing up in HJT. Make sure you update MalwareBytes before you do a full scan

You could try disconnecting from the modem and see if any program complains.

A few days ago I accidently downloaded a virus. I clicked on the download button, instead of the download link. The download button was a virus, when I opened the file, it proceeded to download many unwanted programs to my computer. Some of the symptoms my computer is having are:
-File keeps popping up on my desktop named, "Continue Live Installation"
-That same file opens on its on several times while im on the computer. I Close It and do not continue with the installation
-Almost everything I click on makes ads pop up in new windows.
-Their are ads all over websites that would normally not have ads (ex. Youtube, facebook)
-Computer is generally slower
Those are my problems. Things I have done so far are:
-Immediately uninstalled unwanted programs via control panel
-Ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and got rid of anything it found
-Ran RKill and JRT
-Ran Hitman Pro and got rid of anything it found

After this I am still having all the problems listed above. I hope someone can help me out please!!! This is a work computer and I haven't been able to do any work all week .

Apparently the new things on forums are either Rickrolling or shortly commenting "keylogger" when someone posts a link. Atleast thats the case on the WoW forums and GameFAQs.

Well I clicked one of those links because it claimed to be a cool in-game screenshot. So I clicked the link, the whole "Blizzard is not responsible for links not supported by them" came up and I clicked to continue, then as the site was loading, I went back to the WoW forums and read some of the comments and one was a simple "Keylogger" then someone quoted the link and a conversation entailed about how you should not quote keylogger links, etc. After that, I quickly closed the site before it loaded up, it was still a blank white screen, but it was running for a good 10 seconds. Am I completely screwed over or am I just being overcautious?

So I am now afraid to log into WoW, or anything for that matter. I ran a virus scan using HouseCall (the first link that came up when I Google'd "free virus scan") and it ended up freezing my computer. So should I just blow this off? I'm afraid that if I do, I might wake up to the message "Your password has been changed" when I go to log into WoW tomorrow. Please let me know, and if it is something I should worry about, can you tell me of a good, reliable virus scan site that will get the job done quick and not take like 3 days...

And I'm sorry if I'm an idiot and this is completely dumb and its just some forum ... Read more

I bought Easy Hi Qrecorder program a few years ago. It worked fine. I had to re-download to a new computer as the other had crashed.

I use XP home edition. The Easy Hi Q recorder is reputable, from Roemer Software. I redownloaded it to the next computer which had been recently cleaned out of my son's user account and all his programs and files.

The Easy Hi Q downloads fine and installs. But when I click on the execute file to start it, I get "DWGTrueView 2010 wanting to install instead, which was part of an Autocad program my son had, for mapping. I can't seem to get rid of this mix up. Then of course it can't find the "source" file from that autocad program since it has been deleted for months. The virus must have affected your CAPS LOCK key!!! Quick!! Smash the keyboard with a hammer to prevent the spread of this horrible virus Joking...

First, I would suggest you continue to use Firefox and forget about IE except for doing windows and office updates.

Second, I would say that's malware or a browser hijack, though you may have viri (viruses) in addition.

I would begin my downloading, updating, and running Spybot search & destroy, Lavasoft's AdAware, and Microsofts AntiSpyware programs. They are all free.

Do you have an anti-virus program installed? If so update it and run a complete scan. If not AVG antivirus is free and a decent performing product.

Try the above and we can go from there

Alright, so, firstly, I know nothing about computers, but I was on MSN messenger, and got one of those infected "hey, is this you" followed by some sort of link messages, and stupid me, I clicked and accepted. I've been reading forums, but I don't get what to do, I've done some research, and I'm thinking it's a trojan thingy, and a leap virus, because once I downloaded it, I automatically sent it to everyone on my contact list, and an hour later, my computer automatically restarted. So for days now, I've been trying to fix it, and I think I know the file it's in, or at least close (C:/system32 hosts, or smss), the problem is, the Hijackthis scan, skips that folder, probably because the thing controls my computer, and, If I try delete related files, it says that I need permission to do so, yet I'm on the administrative account, so I guess if anyone know's what ever is going on, that would be awesome. So I got all nostalgic the other day and decided to download the free version of Command and Conquer. In my haste I found out that the ISO images wouldn't work with Windows 7, but they had a fix which was to download a different file and not use the ISO image. I had already burned it and tried to install off of the disc.

The ISO file is on my desktop which means it's on my SSD... so obviously I want to remove it as it is taking up 600mb's of space. I've tried safe mode, 3rd party programs, ending different tasks... and nothing is working. I searched this site to see if anyone had similar problems and searched for the specific problem of not being able to delete the C&C ISO across google with little success. It may be my weak google-fu, but so far I'm coming up short.

Does anyone have any bright ideas on why this isn't able to be deleted?

The error it gives is that the file is open in System.

A:Cannot Delete a downloaded ISO

I managed to fix my own problem.

The issue was a program that I thought had been deleted, but it had not. Magic Disc version 2.7 was used when I couldn't get the C&C burned disc to work. I guess other people have had issues when removing Magic Disc, so I had to go through and dig it out of the registry.

MagicDisc... not good! How to uninstall it when it fails. | Practically Quixotic...

That's the guide I used. Once I removed parts of it from the registry it let me uninstall the program and then I was able to delete the ISO file off my desktop.

Hi. I have a mustek scanner to which I have had to download the software for (reformatted pc and now the original installation cd will not run as kids damaged it, BLESS).
This download is in five parts all of which I have downloaded into my own created 'downloads' folder on c: (they obviously are now 5 different files in this folder).
On the website I downloaded them from it stated 'download all 5 files from web onto pc's hard disc under same directory'. I did not do this as I didn't know what it meant ( thought I would play and work it out but I'm just too stupid).
When I click on first file it starts and then asks me to insert next disc because they are not in this said directory, all being separate.
Can I now make/find or whatever this directory and move them into it and how or must I first make/find this directory and and download them again directly into this directory and how?
Please be gentle with explaination/terminology as as you have prob' gathered my pc skills are more than limited!!
Your help gratefully recieved, Steve.

A:Downloaded driver

Hi Steve1ramsey,
First of all, there is nothing such as "too stupid".
I would rather say that we all start somewhere.

If you remeber the name of the folder you created and put the different files in you only need to change the last part of the path.

Eg. You copy the 5 files in different folder, let's call them "Folder 1", "Folder 2", "Folder 3" etc.
Then you start the Setup from Folder 1.
Later it asks you for disk 2.
You can see the whole path to the Setup, like C:\driversfolder\Folder 1\
You just change "Folder 1" to "Folder 2" and then press OK.

That should do it. In other feel free to ask again
Good luck!

I started having problems with my computer a couple of days ago, it started with an internet screen popping up saying HTTP 404 ERROR considering i wasn't even on the internet became a reason for concern. Since my free version that came with this computer that i bought was done i needed to try and find something else. I was recommended to goggle for spybot search and destroy the free version and when i did this a lot of searches came up so i decided to try the first one with that one telling me after i had downloaded it that i needed to pay in order to fix the problems...well i was not willing to do this so instead i decided to try a different one well needless to say the same thing kept happening to me i continued to download different ones with each saying the same thing i needed to pay! well then my computer started just randomly popping up screens every few seconds. I uninstalled most everything that i downloaded but somehow it was stilling popping screens up at me. I now have this 'system security' that i downloaded but it does not give me an option to uninstall, and my computer is still unprotected. I guess my question is Can you help me?

Okay, I did a dumb thing. I actually wanted to transfer my Carbonite account to a new computer. It is a laptop with a 40 Gig of HD. I realized (perhaps too late) that I selected "Reinstall" instead of Transfer My Account" and that my Carbonite files were larger than the laptop could handle. Well I stopped the downloading of files when the computer said that it had no more room. Later the computer screen went black (actually light gray) and the lights were lit up showing that it was reading or trying to read the files it had. It never completed it's boot up.

I tried to go in and reboot it into a Safe mode, but it won't let me. Says it can't go into the Safe Mode.

So, is there ANY way to save my hide and get this back?

A:Downloaded too much... now won't boot.

I don't have an answer for you (yet) but I did go ahead and mark it unsolved for you.

Still trying to resolve issues with IE8. Looking at downloaded controls I see three instances of Java Plug-in. All installed at the same time when I installed the latest version of Java.

Is this normal? If I remove one (and then two) will it remove all of them? Should I just disable two?

Then looking at "run without permissions" I see even more instances of Java Plug-n.

I do want to keep Java Plug-in but wonder why I have so many of the same?

A:Three of the same downloaded control add-on

Those three seam to be the same. If it was my computer I would remove all Java and get a fresh download of Java. I think this might answer all your questions.

I need to know where are the downloaded files stored in Windows 7 that are installed in background through 500kb installers.

A:Where is my downloaded file

Do you know what they are called? Try typing the name, or part of the name, in the box that pops up when you hit the start button, then right click on the name and click on "Open File Location"

Or you could look in "Downloads" - Type that in the box and "Open File Location", you should find them there.

Hi pepsiman, What can you tell me about the below startup?

If you dont know what it is, could you make sure that you can view hidden files and folders (and System Files) and run a search for AsntDll.dll. When you find it, copy it to a new folder, zip it up (this is important) and email it to me (include a link to this thread). My address is [email protected] I will post back when I have checked it out.

To get rid of LOP, go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and uninstall Window Search (if present). You will be given a security code to insert, do so and reboot when done.

If the entry is not there, run the below uninstaller (ignore your AV if it squawks).

Reboot afterwards and post a new log.

A:downloaded to death.

You can't download anything that will help. That PC will not run Mass Effect 2; it would need a faster processor, which would require a new motherboard, and more RAM, and a better graphics card, which would require a new motherboard and new power supply to meet the requirements. So you actually need a whole new computer, one built/designed for gaming.

Hi everyone,
New user to SevenForums.

For the longest time we did not have IE on our HP Smart Touch. We would use Firefox. Well, I needed to get IE 10 installed. I downloaded IE 10 from MS and installed. I made sure the Turn Windows Features On/Off from Control Panel had IE selected. However, after I went through the installation, IE 10 was not available. It is showing as an installed update to Windows but does not show in the Control Panel>Program and Features.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get IE running? or how I can check what may be disabling it?

I do not know how IE was removed and unavailable to begin with.

Thanks for any help.

Hi everyone,
I have AVG Free 2013, which needed to be updated (i've since done this) and when closing Google Chrome, I got the message that avgui.exe was being downloaded. I did a little research, and most places seem to say it has to do with registry errors, but AVG had never done anything like that. Does anyone have any possible reasons for this? Thanks in advance.

A:avgui.exe being downloaded?

Hi -The process known as AVG User Interface belongs to software AVG Internet Security by AVG Technologies CZ, s.r.o ( is a Verisign signed file. The file is certified by a trustworthy company.File avgui.exe is not a Windows core file. The process can be uninstalled in the Control Panel.NOTE : avgui.exe is able to record inputs. Therefore the technical security rating is 10% dangerous. In the event of any problems with avgui.exe, you may want to do the following:Uninstall the associated program Go - Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove programs (Programs and Features in Vista and Windows7) > Delete > AVG 2013 or AVG 2011If this is bothering you, then you can replace AVG free with any of these Free Antivirus programs > >Microsoft Security Essentials (what I currently use)Avira AntiViravast! Thank You -

Hi everyone - hope this is posted in the right area

I am trying to download a file from this page -

when I click on the blue text of my choice, a box pops up asking me whether I want to open it from its present location or save it to disk. If I choose open it, a box comes up showing the download in process - at the end, I get a WinZip box, which says that this is an 'evaluation copy' and asks me what I want to do - agree to the evaluation conditions, quit, or get ordering info. I click agree, and I get a Winzip Wizard. I start trying to click my way through this process - I get screens like - 'Would you like to Unzip or Install from optr_por[1].zip' (I say yes) and then "Click now to unzip to selected folder, C:/unzipped/optf_por[1]. I say yes - a box comes up which says the files have been successfully unzipped to this location, and then a Windows Folder called TEMP pops up with an file inside it - the file is a Winzip icon, and seems to be the file I have just downloaded - it is called "optf por"....

Seems good so far. Then I click on it, hoping to see the document I have attempted to download. But I get a small box that says 'WinZip self extractor' at the top, and which says 'To Unzip all files in optf_por.exe to the specified folder, press the unzip button'. The specified folder is C:/WINNT/TEMP. I press Unzip and... a tiny box comes up which shows the p... Read more

A:where is my downloaded file?

It can be confusing trying to keep track of where downloaded programs unzip to especially using winzip. I think your first step should be to clean out the default folder winnt temp. I don't believe there is anything needed there but just to be on the safe side don't delete anything from the recycle bin until you're sure you can reboot and run programs without error messages. Next instead of letting the program run itself without installing on your hard drive create a new floder on the C drive tree or whatever your hard drive letter is and save it to that folder (save to disk, browse, choose that folder C:temp that you created.) That way if it unzips to the winnt folder it should be the only program in there, plus you have the original download on your computer so you won't have to keep downloading each time . As to what program to use to open the file that depends on what kind of program it is. Good luck

I downloaded 3DMark from this site. 1.6 GB When it opened it went to a 'registery fixit'.
I already have one and dropped out of that. But, I lost 3DMark.

AND, I came back and downloaded it again! (duh) Each time took ~18 minutes. Again, when
it oped it did the same thing. I was trying to get Properties fast before anything happened and
I lost it again.

Well, I was just in my game and my computer is sorta humming. I can't blame it on the
new program, but I've gotta find this thing and get it off my computer.

Can anyone help?

Hey,I downloaded AIM+ onto the C drive. The problem that it only works on my account and my dad's account, but not anyone else's in my family. If I try to open it on another account,an error message comes up saying:AIM+registry settings corrupt, please reinstall to fix the problem.I've reinstalled it, but the same thing happens.Any reason why it doesn't work on all of the accounts?any help would be fine.thanks

A:downloaded AIM+ onto the C drive

Usually reinstalling does not help. One suggestion was to copy the AIM+ values from the registry to the new account's registry file, since it's already installed.

Log onto the account that works.
Next go to Start, Run, type in "regedit" amd click OK.
Next expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER :: Software and highlight "Big-O" go to file :: export and save it as big-o.reg in a place thats easy to remember (like C:/Program Files/AIM+).
Now log off, and log into the account which gives you the error.
Use explorer to find the .reg file you made.
Double click on it and append it to the registry.

I've recently downloaded a couple files. One is a game (from, another a BIOS update (from Dell), among others. When trying to open either of the two above, I get the following error message:

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher"

Another recently downloaded program gives me a checksum fail type of error message.

I've kept up to date with Microsoft updates, and have tried running them in various compatability modes, but get the same message each time.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated, as I am rather significantly tech illiterate. Thanks!

I am soon buying an External HDD to use with my desk top computer, running Windows XP
If I download an application can I install on to the new HDD , and run it from the new external HDD..?
Thanks ?.

A:Downloaded An Application...

Yes you can, but that does not mean you can go from computer to computer using the program. When a program is installed it make modification to Windows registry. This allows Windows to access the program when you start the program in the Program Files or click an icon on the desktop. If you were to move the external drive to another computer those registry entries would not be there, so windows would not know how to handle the program.
The simple answer is yes you can. Just do not expert to move it from computer to computer.
I hope this helps.

I just downgraded from Vista SP2 to Vista SP1 and by doing so, have somehow screwed up my downloads in both Firefox and IE8. Whenever I download in either one, the download results in a file that is 0 kb.

The strange thing is, Google Chrome somehow wasn't affected by this downgrade (if that's what caused this) and I can download files fine in that browser.

Can someone tell me what's going on here and how to fix this in IE8 and FF 3.5? I've already tried reinstalling FF and it didn't help at all.

A:Downloaded Files Are 0 KB

Why did you downgrade form SP2 to SP1? Try reinstalling SP2.

Hello, I have an HP laptop running Vista Home Premium 64-bit. It's actually been relatively fine for me until the last few days. I was having some problems editing video files and couldn't figure out why, so I updated to service pack 2. Around the same time, although I honestly cannot be sure that it was because of the update, none of my downloads will work. I believe it happened once or twice before I updated my sp but now I can't download ANYTHING. It's bizarre. The entire file will download and the file will show download progress just like normal. But, once complete the file shows up as 0 kb and doesn't open. I've tried using firefox 3.5.3 and IE 8...both do the same thing. I have also checked my permissions and made sure that I am allowed access to all of the folders that the documents are saved in. Nothing seems to help.

I really don't want to have to format/reinstall windows since I have quite a bit of stuff I would need to backup. Any help would be EXTREMELY appreciated. Thanks.
