Hello,I am trying to find the specs for the power adapter for a HP Prodesk/Elitedesk Mini 400/600/800 G1. The part number is L2X04AA#ABA. I found the HP data sheet but that has very little information.I am looking for output voltage and tip dimensions.I am hoping that I can reuse the power adapter from the older HP DC7800 usff PCs but I can determine that only if I find the specs. Anyone out there who can dig up some specs for the HP Desktop Mini Adapter Kit (L2X04AA#ABA). ?

I have been looking for a decent adapter to use with my HP Pavillion ZV5340 that I just got for Christmas. We are heading to california next week and I'm looking for an adapter to use on the airplane (I'm not sure what type of plane it is, a jet is about it). I had read reviews for the N-Charge power supply, and that looks like it's a total fraud. So, I'm wondering what companies make decent, reliable power adapters for planes.....suggestions anyone?

I spent a lot of money on a new gaming pc and it has been a complete nightmare from the start. I have wireless network at home so I had to het a usb wifi adapter, the Netgear N300 WiFi USB Mini Adapter.

Its setup cannot complete because it is stuck eternally at "detecting adapter"

I sought online but it's only people reporting the problem and NOBODY giving a solution. pleas pleeeaaaase somebody help.

A:Netgear N300 WiFi USB Mini Adapter stuck detecting adapter

Power down PC...while it off remove USB wifi adapter....power on PC. When PC has finished booting up, search in the uninstall programs list for any software related Netgear and uninstall it. Reboot and start the process again.

According to the system requirements for that device, it does not support windows 10, which may be you issue.

I have a Sony Mavica Digital Camera that uses 8cm mini cd-rw disks. The camera came with an adapter ring to snap on to the mini cd-rw so that it can be read in CD-ROM drives with no inner groove such as mine. I lost the adapter ring and now have no way of reading the disks. There is an USB option but that doesn't work and I don't like to figure that out right now. I just want to know where can I purchase something similar to the adapter ring?

Hi All,

I have a Seagate 500gb USB drive and I want to be able to connect to it with both of my PCs. So, I bought a Pluscom mini NAS USB adapter. Unfortunately the installation disc was U/S and despite several requests to Pluscom I've got nowhere.
I have connected the adapter to my router via RJ45 cable and I can see the device on both PCs networks. However, every time I try to connect with the USB hdd I am asked for a user and password. I insert the device's admin/admin but it's not what it wants. I insert the router's details, that doesn't work. I insert the respective PC's name/pw, that doesn't work.
Does anyone have any experience with this particular device and can help me, please?

Windows 7
Motherboard : Gigbyte p67a-UD-3r-b3

I have a Intel dual band WiFi adapter mini pci express :

I recently bought a mini pci express to pci-e adapter that had 3 antennas from ebay:

I installed them mini pci-e into the pcie with one problem which i think doesn't matter: the intel mini pci-e does not reach the top screw holes of the adapter but the antenna wires are still connected to it. I then placed the pcie adapter into a pcie slot on the motherboard of my pc.

When turning on the computer my windows 7 recognized 4 drivers and installed them all. From memory i know one was a USB composite driver and the remaining 3 were USB input devices? This confused me immensely. I dont know what to do next to be honest. Obviously its not working properly and furthermore, the USB composite driver is under the 'Universal seriel bus controllers' group in device manager; with the other three under 'Human interface devices'.

Now, i received a cord with the mini pci-e to pci-e which plugs into the side of the adapter (you can see this slot in the photos of the ebay link above but the actual cord is not in the photos). I did not attach this cord as i do not know where it goes on the motherboard. I have attached the photo of the cord- the white end goes into the... Read more

I have one of those micro/mini USB wireless adapters that I'm trying to get working on a reconstituted Win7 HP box. I have a fresh install of Win 7 but have no idea where the driver for the adapter is, so the machine does not see it. I'm not even sure it needs a driver.

Here's the weird thing; I recently plugged the USB wifi thingie into my other box (Win 7 Pro/64) in order to get the PC talking to my smart TV across the room so I could watch Netflix and it came right up fine with no tweaking. I didn't do a thing except reboot. If it needs a driver, it somehow just found it, or does not seem to want one.

On this 2nd box with Pro/64 I can also easily get to the display shown in attachment that shows wireless bars, but on the 1st PC with Win7 Home Prem, going to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing center produces no such display. All it shows is the broadband connection to the cat 5 cable running to my router. It's like the Home Prem system does not support wireless. I did reinstall all drivers from the GByte disc that came with the mobo.

Any ideas?

I have a mini pcie mSATA card that I want to use for a desktop of mine. Kingston sm200s3 60GB

I believe there are only 2 options.
1. SATA > SATA adapter > mSATA card
2. PCIe slot > PCI adapter > mSATA card.

As far as 2. goes; I have found a card that fits into a PCIe slot which has an input for the mSATA card.

I know that this is not the ideal way to hook up the card but I don't see any more options.

Which is there better way to go or what am I missing?

A:Mini PCIe and adapter VS. SATA

Whatever has an mSATA interface for it will work.

From here SSD Kingston 60GB SM200S3/60G mSATA p/ Ultrabook,tablet - Atera Inform?tica

its a SATA 3 device, so for optimal performance you should use something that can guarantee enough bandwith to not bottleneck it.

PCIe bandwith depends from number of lanes used (a x1 card has one lane, a x2 card has two and so on) and the PCIe revision/version of both devices. The panel on the right here gives all speeds so just multiply that by the number of lanes the card has and you will find out its bandwith. SATA 3 has 6 GB/s of theoretical max bandwith, although actual transfer speed does not go above 1 GB/s afaik.

This Mini PCIe PCI E mSATA Intel Samsung SSD SATA 3 III Adapter Card with Case | eBay

this SATA III Dual Port to mSATA X 2 w/ PCI-e Bracket | MSATA-2XS3-BKT

are examples of what you listed as 1, and stuff I would orient myself towards if my mobo had SATA 3 connectors already. Because... hey, why waste PCIe slots for that?

Hi All
Attached is a picture of a Mini Disc Adapter and after a long search I am having problems trying to find out who sells them, because my main computer has a slot instead of a draw to load dvd/cd's into it does not take the little mini cd's that often come with hardware purchased with software to put on your computer.
I have to load it on to the other computer, copy all that is on the disc and put it on my external drive then transfer it to the main computer.
I know I could set it up to transfer from one computer to another but I don't want to have two computers on to do one job
if anyone knows where I can buy these, on line or at a physical store, (does not matter what country) could you pass that info on, much appreciated

I recently purchased a Compaq Presario desktop with no integrated wifi. So I picked up a usb adapter. The Retail Plus website says the adapter is compatible with Windows 7. However, after I run the setup and plug in the adapter, the drivers do not install. My apartment is wireless only, so I can't connect my desktop to the internet to download drivers. I do have a laptop with wifi, so I tried installing the usb adapter on it. Everything went smoothly and the usb works on the laptop. So I tried putting the drivers on a disc and putting them on the desktop, no luck. I downloaded a package from the Retail Plus website and I still cannot get the drivers to work.

Unfortunately, I am not very computer savvy. Any suggestions to make this work?

I left a mouse adapter inside the USB port of my HP Mini laptop. I never used the mouse, but kept it in there just incase. Never gave me any problems until i noticed a burning smell coming from the case. I started receiving tooltips in the corner that the adapter wasn't being recognized, and so i reached to pull it out and discovered it was very hot.. after pulling, it had split into two parts.

How this did happen? The way it was built, the case never gets enough cooling.. but it doesn't seem normal for heat to have gone straight to the port like that either, other components should have melted way before that.

Hi there, I'm having an issue with my ever so brilliant IBM Thinkpad T42p, only it's not so brilliant at the moment as it has a wireless issue. WPA2-PSK is the standard for wireless security as I believe, my T42p was made in early 2005 and the adapter hasn't really been properly updated to support this security type. I have tried custom drivers to the latest drivers.

The latest drivers crash the OS for several minutes and fail to install, even when digitally signed and the custom drivers work a treat on WEP and other network security types not the modern standard though. Changing my wireless security type isn't an option, any ideas? Windows 7 works superb with the drivers but I prefer XP on this laptop as it can only handle so much and its aging. So I would need XP drivers on an quite frankly an ancient mini pci IBM Wireless card that supports modern WPA2-PSK.

If it's too much trouble I am just going to rip one out of my HP laptop but I prefer not to.

Again, any suggestions?

A:IBM 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter II WPA2-PSK issue.

No one?

Anyway, it worked on some routers and failed upon others so I decided to bite the bullet and swap the cards from my other laptop.

It works great now, its an Intel something... and connects properly due to better and updated drivers. Interestingly the Thinkpad has all its original parts and the bios reported the CPU, Intel Pentium M and now I have replaced the card it's made it a Centrino (Intel branded chipset groups, Wifi, cpu and whatnot).

For anyone who owns a thinkpad and wish to check the parts list visit ThinkWiki. It maybe for Linux but hardware wise it applies to any OS and does give info on Windows anyway

I just acquired a Belkin mini to use with my headphones.

Step 1 is to install the BT adapter. on the support website, it says that because I use Windows 8, I shouldn't have anything to install.

But things don't happen like they're supposed to. it seems that when I plug the USB adapter, something happens but then nothing else. So I install anyway the setup program on the CD. again when installation is over, nothing happens, no desktop icon, no special tray icon.
At this point I should point out that my ACER predator desktop PC has an inbuilt Bluetooth device... but for some reason it too can't seem to connecto to headphones, hence the purchase of the belkin adapter. So in my tray, there already was a bluetooth icon.

So what I did, was check the device manager to see if it recognized hardware. And apparently there is a problem, but this is where my skills end and where I hope to get some help from you guys.

Howdy - Recently bought a Dell Inspiron 1012 mini with an Atheros AR9285 802.11 b/g/n wireless adapter. When connecting to my home network, the card only recognizes the 2.4G radio on my Netgear dual band router - it can't find the 5G signal at all! I know the 5G radio works because it streams to our TV at that speed. Dell Support couldn't help me out. Anyone experience this or have any ideas?

A:Dell Mini's n adapter can't find my 5G radio.

Wifi issues can be a royal pain. Welcome to the forums btw, I suggest first looking to see if there is new firmware for your router. If there is newer firmware, i suggest you upgrade to it. Be sure you have the latest drivers from dell for your card, you might also look for drivers directly from atheros.

I have an IBM T40 Thinkpad that has a built-in Intel Pro Wireless 2100 LAN 3B Mini PCI adapter. A while back, after trying to set up a router, and monkeying with settings, I found I could no longer connect. The OEM-installed IBM Access Connections was no help, and Windows tells me it cannot configure the adapter/connections. At first I thought the card was defective, but 2 new ones have the same results. I've been using a USB adapter, but would like to get the built-in working again. My friend thought I could remove IBM Access Connections and install different software to operate the adapter.

Two questions:
1.Does this sound feasible?
2.Can someone recommend some software (preferably freeware)?

Hi guys,
I'm going bananas! Here's the scoop. I have a desktop & Dell 1520 laptop running thru a Netgear 2000 router/modem. The problem is with the laptop. I've set up the router wireless with wpa-psk security with the ethernet cable & everything works fine when I disconnect the cable. When I shut down for a night, laptop & router both off, then turn everything on the next day it connects wirelessly & all is fine. Here's the problem. If I leave everything on & let the laptop go into standby & then hit the switch to bring it out of standby, sometimes it connects OK & other time NO!!! When it disconnects & I attempt to re-connect the process with the card utility it assumes it is set for WEP, WHICH IT IS NOT!! & is asking for the appropriate password of either exactly 8 or 13 letters. Incidently the passphrase has 12 letters in it, but it's set for wpa-psk not wep! I've rechecked the router settings & thats what they are so it must be with the adapter.
I figure it's got to be a setting somewhere on the adapter but I haven't a clue.Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help will be appreciated.

A:Dell wireless 1505 adapter mini-card

The problem is that network connections don't always work after Standby/Sleep/Hibernate. Make sure you have the latest correct driver for the adapter. There's not much else you can do except try another adapter.

When I have that issue my workaround is to switch the wireless off (if integrated) or disconnect before Standby or Hibernation.

I have just replaced the 802.11b Intel PRO 2100 wireless adapter in my Dell Inspiron 600m laptop computerwith an 802.11b/g Intell PRO 2200BG. I am confused about connecting the antenna cables to the new mini PCI board. Originally, the grey cable was connected to the Main connector and the black cable to the Aux connector. This is how Dell shipped the computer with the 2100. However, the Installation Guide for the new adapter (2200BG) indicates that the black cable should be connected to Main and the grey to Aux. How would I know which connection configuration is correct? Thanks.

P.S. I don't know if this is of any relevance, but the Intel PRO Wireless 2200BG adapter appears to be intended for HP computers. The drivers CD has HP on it and the Installation Guide is "Copyright 2004 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.". Is the antenna cable colour standardised among computer brand manufacturers?

guys this one has me stumped cold. Dell Inspiron laptop, very clean software wise, had original mini-card [internal] which could not detect any wifi networks - known good wifi AP's. All the windows checked showed the device working properly but I finally replaced it with one of the better "n" cards out there. Same thing all over again. Put it right next to a working AP, cannot detect a thing. Antennae is hooked up properly.

If I plug a good WIFI stick into USB, it works immediately, no drama.

I have no idea what is preventing this from detecting anything. What should I be looking for?

A:WLAN Mini-card Good, but cannot detect WIFI ??

Hi zapp22,

It appears that the 'Wireless Card' is currently 'Disabled'; please check its status in 'BIOS' and 'enable' it if needed. To access 'BIOS' you may follow the steps listed below:
- Power off the laptop > Power it back on and at 'Dell splash screen', repeatedly tap 'F 2 key' (BIOS screen should appear) > Usually 'Dell Inspiron' laptops have a 'category' named 'Advanced' > Ensure that WLAN is enabled > 'Save Settings' and 'Exit'
(Note: BIOS setup may vary based on different laptop models)

If the wireless card still does not detect any networks in 'Windows', try tapping <Function><F2> or only <F2> if the previous key combination does not work. This is the 'radio control' for the 'Wireless Card' installed in the system.

Hope this helps. Do reply with the finding; would be glad to assist.

I want to buy a mini laptop to my kid ( age 9) for watching movies and browisng internet , netflix and some not so intensive games. I see a deal on ebay, but not sure of 1 GB Ram is sufficient for decent speed. Unfortunately, I can't increase the RAM either. Wants a expert opinion.
Operating System: Genuine Windows 7 Starter

Processor: Intel Atom Processor N455

Processor Speed: 1.66GHz

Processor Cache: 512KB L2

BUS Speed: 667Mhz FSB

Memory: 1GB DDR3 System Memory (1 DIMM) MAX Supported = 1GB

Accessible Memory Slots: 1

Appreciate any alternatives.

A:is 1 GB RAM good enough for decent speed for Windows 7 starter mini

I'd say 1GB is okay for Windows 7 Starter, but for any other edition 2GB would be much preferred.

What I'm more worried about is whether the Atom CPU is powerful enough for movie playback, including Netflix. I would definitely expect problems with HD movies (720p or 1080p resolutions, files encoded with H.264 or VC1).

A "full-size" laptop might be a better option than a netbook. A low-to-mid range model should do just fine here.

Due to hideous misfortune I had to do a clean install of my personal copy of Windows Vista and remove the stock Windows XP from my netbook.

Many drivers were added my Microsoft during Vista installation but I have no adapter drivers for either wireless or ethernet controllers. Under device manager I have no category for Network Adapters but instead those two controllers are listed under "Other Devices".

Under HP downloads I found the driver for Qualcomm Mobile Broadband Drivers - Gobi1000 when I went through the process of stating my product ID and OS (Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit). I downloaded it onto my pc, saved it to the flash drive I had to use earlier as a bootable drive to install Vista (knew the lack of native cd/dvd drive would eventually haunt me) and then moved the flash drive to the netbook to run install.

After running the setup a blank 'ms-dos' window popped up, stayed blank and then disappeared. There was no confirmation of success of failure in regards to installation of the driver. But under Device Manager they are still listed under other devices and I am unable to do anything with them.

I downloaded, transported and ran the setups for HP help and support as well as the Wireless Assistant. Both run fine on the Mini. The wireless assistant simply states that Windows has no controllers assigned to find connections to maintain.

I was curious as to whether or not there was something I was missing, the driver was the inco... Read more

Unfortunately, at my school you need a dual band wireless adapter in order to connect to the internet. With my current laptop, there are certain requirements it must meet in order for it to work.
it must be a full height card. An adapter will not work as the antenna wires won't go that far.
It needs to have 2 antenna ports. I have found a few ones which fit all the other specifications, but they appear to have 3 ports.
Obviously it must be PCIe-mini and dual band, as stated in the title
Does anyone know what one to get, or even if there is one that meets those specifications?

A:buying laptop PCIe mini dual band adapter

Your post is confusing for a few reasons:
Laptops do not have expansion slots, PCIe or otherwise. Everything is expanded through the external ports.
Very few laptops are made with dual band adapters right now. It is curious that a school would require something that is only available on top end laptops.
Wires? Network connectivity is done through CAT5 or 6 Ethernet wiring or wirelessly.
Dual band refers to the frequency of the wireless signal: 2.4GHz or 5GHz.
The antennas on a wireless device correspond to the channels that the wireless signal is sent out on. 2 antennae do not equal dual band.
Full height or half height cards are only configurations. The configuration of a card has nothing to do with performance. Where are you going to put a full height card for desktop PC in a laptop?
PCIe-mini makes a little more sense, but contradicts the earlier need for a full height card. These are opposites.
Perhaps it would be better to explain what you are trying to do.

Hi, so I hope you guys can help me with this. I want to buy a mini usb to headphone jack adapter like the one above for my cell phone. They say that that one is for Motorola phones. My phone is a Toshiba Portege G710. It has a mini usb port and mini usb headphones work with it. But will this adapter work even though they say it's for Motorola? In other words:
Are the connectors used for audio the same on all USB plugs?
(After all, it's called "Universal Serial Bus")

Thanks for replying, I'd really appreciate it.

A:mini usb to headphone jack adapter compatible with every cell phone?

even though it says USB, when it comes to cell phones they are not wired all the same. I would look for an adapter made specificall for Toshiba Cell phones. The manufacturer of the one that lists it is for Motorola Phone may also manufacture one for your phone.

Good morning to all!!

I am trying to connect a Thinkpad to my wireless network. I have 2 other PCs happily chugging along on the network, which is 128-WEP enabled with OPEN authentication. I have typed the same key into the Thinkpad to no avail. I have never run into this problem before with another PC and am leaning toward thinking it's something with the mini PCI adapter? Any help would be appreciated.

Here's the settings specific to the configuration of the mini PCI adapter:

Network Address: Not Present
Power Save Mode: Maximum
Radio On/Off: On
Roam Time (sec): 45
Roam Time Threshold (db): 15

Wireless Mode Selection: Auto

I have tried the Wireless Mode Selection in both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz, but it didn't make a diff. My router is D-Link AirPlusG 802.11g and I allow for backwards compatibility, with open authentication. I run a DHCP server for up to 10 clients and am currently only serving 5. As I live in BFE and broadcast my SSID (closest neighbor is 5 miles away lol). I've tried filtering by MAC, as well as disabling the WEP 128 encryption entirely. I'm at a total loss on this one.

My laptop will no longer turn on.  When the AC adapter is plugged in, the LED light is white indicating power is arriving at the laptop. However, nothing happens when I push the power button. Troubleshooting steps I have completed already include: Hard reset (several times including after each step below)Tried starting without the batteryRemoved all removable components and reseated themRemoved all removable components as well as bottom cover. Cleaned with compressed air. Put everything back.Nothing appears wrong and nothing happened between the last time it turned on and this time that I am aware of. The laptop is out of warranty, and I am pretty handy with computers. Is there anything that can be suggested short of a hardware replacement that would help get this resolved? TIA

The tips I got with this Kensington 33197 power adapter have numbers stenciled on them like N3, N5, N19, etc. The tips sold on their web site make no mention of the "N" numbers and have numbers like K20059, K20050, etc. and there is no cross reference.

You can also see a complete reference for "N" numbers to all the laptops they support at the above link. Again, no mention of the numbers Kensington uses on their site.

I need a cross reference for these kinds of numbers.

Kensington referred me to their telephone tech support; but, there is a language or cultural barrier that prevents their understanding what I need.

Does anyone know of such a reference?

I have an IBM Thinkpad with a High Rate Wireless mini PCI adapter III radio inside. My router is a D-Link DI-524. I'm currently connected through an ethernet cable (DSL).
I have a separate computer connected to the router as the main connection. (I do file and print sharing, but i doubt that effects the problem I'm having.) This laptop (the one with the problem) occasionally connects to the same router through an ethernet cable, but should also be able to connect wirelessly.
The problem now is that my wireless connection does not show up (or rarely shows up) as an available network on my list of available networks. If it does, it's intermittent as to whether I can connect to it. For a while it seemed as though it could only connect to the wireless network if it was also connected by cable. If I can connect it lasts less than a few minutes, before the network disappears as an available network.
At the same time, my neighbors' networks do show up as available. They are protected, so I can't see if I can actually connect through them. I brought in a separate laptop which didn't have any problems connecting through my wireless. Furthermore, I borrowed a wireless usb adapter and was able to see and connect to my wireless and this computer that way. I'd rather not have to use an external advice though if possible.
These problems all started when I installed AVG (firewall and virus protection) about a month and a half ago. I've gone back an... Read more

Any suggestions or tricks i can pull to get her information back would be greatly appreciated.

There is a (strong) chance that this thumb drive was damaged by the water event.

You took a significant chance of damaging the computers by plugging it in to either of them.

If I were you,
I would start doing hardware diagnostics to make sure that the USB ports are not damaged!

Someone else may know a safe way to try to access and retrieve data, but I don't .
I would be inclined to just wirte off the drive (including contents) as a loss.

Would there be enough power provided for the 3 fans? Amy guidance and advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

This is a common problem (I see lots of posts)
The problem source is the [Dell] AC adapter.  PA-21 Family, 65W, P/N: NX061.  It is made in China.
I have an XPS M1330.  Using Dell after warranty service, replaced the Mother Board twice, replaced the battery twice, replaced the AC adapter twice - not fixing it.
Turns out the power warning message is very informative.  It states "Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for best system performance".  So, I plugged in my Dell 95W adapter - WOW Problem Solved.
A lab test of my new Dell 65W AC adapter shows it to be 64.6 watts.  If this unit gets hot (like after several hours of use), it may not put out the full 65 watts - the system may not recognize the adapter, it may power the system ok, but won't charge the battery.
These units burn out after only a few months of use. Their cables are too fragile. If Dell's or their supplier's Quality Control can't produce a reliable 65W product - I found seveal "Made In USA" universal adapters.

A:AC Adapter - Alert - "AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined"

Well my solution was simple.
I just removed the battery pack and powered up my notebook. Then I turned off the notebook replaced the battery pack and VOILA. The error message was gone.

Hello. I have an HP Stream Mini Desktop 200-010 that will not power on again after it turned itself off while it was idle.  No power light, no fan movement, no beep codes. Things I already tried: 1. I replaced the original AC power adapter with a new one. It still does not power on so we can probably rule out a defective AC adapter brick and cable. 2. Held down the power button with the AC cable and other cables unplugged from the computer to discharge the power as stated on the HP support page. It did not fix it. 3. Opened the computer up and checked all the cables inside. This is not quite like a traditional desktop PC, so the only cables I saw in there were to connect the WLAN/Bluetooth card to the antenna on the top and a small cable for the speaker for beep codes. 4. Tried 3different power outlets around the house so a faulty power outlet shouldn't be the case. Is there any other troubleshooting I can try to fix this problem? It is already outside of the 1 year warranty. Normally I would know what to do to fix a problem if it could actually power on but I feel so helpless when it can't even power on to give me beep codes or anything to work with. Thank you in advance!

Most laptop power supplies will function fro 90 to 240 volts. (read the label on the adapter) All you have to do is get the 240 volt power cord, of an adapter plug. If it is a desktop check the back, most have a 120/240 volt switch, and again you need the 240 volt power cord or adapter.

I have a new Samsung U70 USB Monitor.

It comes with a split USB cable that the manual tells me is needed to be plugged into TWO usb ports on my laptop. This is because it is powered via USB and needs the "extra power" i.e. two usb connections.

However, the cable was too short to reach two USB ports (they are on either side of laptop).

So i managed to install the driver with only one usb plugged in anyway. It also now powers up (and seems to work fine) with just one USB plugged in.

Could i damage it this way? Is it getting full power (maximum results) using one USB? Anything that could go wrong?

You are taking risks.

That panel consumes 4.5 watts, and the limit of one modern USB port is approximately 2.5watts, I would use both.

USB 5 volts at 500 milliamps = approx 2.5 watts.

Hey guys,

My computer was working fine at home, and I had to move it into school. So, I put the computer in the car and brought it to school. There wasn't any sort of bump or anything that could've damaged the computer, but for some reason the computer won't start up.

When I push the power button, all the fans (including CPU) start up, the LEDs of the computer turn on and everything looks good for about 2 seconds, then the computer shuts down. I tried unplugging peripherals from the power supply, and nothing seemed to work until I decided to unplug the Mini ATX power cable (the four pin cable that plugs directly into the mobo, correct me if this isn't the mini ATX cable), and then it stayed on for awhile. Of course, since that cable wasn't in, my video card wasn't powered, so there wasn't much that happened.

Is this a motherboard short or a power supply short? I don't have another power supply handy to try and fix it, and I was hoping I could get a response as to what is most likely the culprit here.

Thanks in advance.

Hey all,
I've got a Mini 9, Inspiron 910 with some issues.  I had a 3 cell battery pack that wouldn't charge anymore around 2 months after the warranty expired.  I purchased a 6 cell battery that was compatible in another Mini 9 I had, but would not work in this particular one.  I flashed the BIOS to the latest and greatest (A05 or A06), and found no change.  I then proceeded to try and downgrade to A00 to see if that would work.
Where the first flash was successful, the second downgrade flash started, then the screen went blank.  Power was supplied via a UPS and the power cord or power buttons were not touched.  Now the Mini 9 will not power on.  I don't have a battery in it, and it's plugged in with a known working charger.  No LED's light up and it simply won't power on.  I've pretty much accepted that this is a paper weight at this point, but is there anything I can try?  I've had it unplugged and without battery for a week, and that didn't do anything.
Thanks in advance,Spectrum

A:Inspiron Mini 910 BIOS Flash - Now won't power on

There are two options- have the BIOS chip removed and flashed externally or replace the system board. Either procedure is likely to cost almost as much as a replacement netbook - so is likely not worth the expenditure.

Was looking at the netgear n600. (WNDA3100)

Any suggestions? Will be streaming hd movies and downloading large files simultaneously.

A:Good wireless USB adapter win 7 64 bit

I've found the ones with the tacky little antennas tend to receive much better.
To be honest you may want to consider going with a pci device they're a bit more robust than the usb ones. They are pretty much exclusively low profile too, so it shouldn't be a problem even if you are dealing with a micro atx htpc.

I have a WG111v2 which I bought just to be able to use Vista x64. It doesn't work well with games though, so I need an adapter with no dropouts and x64 support. Would be nice with some recommendations.

A:Looking for a good wireless adapter

Howdy! I am also on the lookout for a good wireless adaptor. Was going to get the WG111T as I have a WG111 now and have been very happy with it.
When you say the WG111V2 is not good for gaming, does it work under normal circumstances or only under high traffic conditions like gaming?

As far as I know there are no x64 drivers yet :-(

I cannot get an OptiPlex 755 Mini Tower to power on. It had been running fairly continuously in an office environment on a APC battery backup/surge protector until it failed Monday morning. Then there was some orange light that was flashing or continuous. When the computer was turned off, it would not come on again. Sorry for the vagueness, but this is second-hand information. I found a fair amount of dust inside, but I've seen far worse on computers
When I push the power button I get no change: no light in the power button, no diagnostic lights, no sounds, no fan movement. When I connect it to power the "AUX LED" light on the motherboard comes on a solid yellow/amber so the PSU is putting out something.
Is this likely to be a PSU problem? Is there some way to pin it down other than buying a replacement PSU?
Thanks for any help,
Joe M

I bought this back in October, upgraded the BIOS almost immediately and since then it has been very reliable in everyday use (now on Windows 10, 1511). However, during that period there has been the same power issue two or three times. While used on a laptop on battery power it shuts down completely for no apparent reason and cannot be switched on again with the power button. If then connected to the charger the switch operates normally and the PC reboots. The battery monitor shows the tablet at 2% (which should trigger a shutdown when used as a tablet) but the keyboard at ~ 100%.

This suggests to me a specific bug in the firmware or driver which is triggered by a particular set of circumstances, e.g. the battery switchover point happens to coincide with a timed change to sleep mode. Its annoying because apart from a possible loss of work it means I need to carry the charger even though the batteries will last all day.

Two questions. Has anyone else experienced this or seen it reported? Is there a simple way to inform Toshiba in the hope (!) that it might be added to a list of bugs to investigate?

Hello Everyone!
Ive been facing a peculiar problem with my Dell inspiron mini 270 of late. Its power light wont go off even after I switch off the laptop thus indicating that it is still being charged! What is even more strange is that in such a state I cannot restart my laptop until after the power light goes off on its own after a few hours. After repeated attempts, I have come to understand that this indicates that now the battery is discharged. Now when I put the power adaptor on and switch on the laptop, it starts. This effectively means that every time I charge the battery and switch off the laptop after some work, I HAVE to wait till the battery is completely discharged to start the laptop again. Guys, guys, I am at my wits end and have extremely close to tearing off my few remaining strands of hair. Any clues anyone?

My PSU does not have the extra 12V cable for Pentium4 (or AMD64).
I'll be getting an Abit AV8 3rd Eye with AMD64/3200 Winchester 90nm.

PSU: QTechnology ENS-0240QT, 400W, EPS12V capable
+3.3V = 30A
+5V = 25A
Max 200W on +3.3 and +5
+12V1 = 15A
+12V2 = 16A
Max 216W on +12V1 and +12V2
-5V = 1A
-12V = 1A
+5Vsb = 2A

I've seen adapter-cables on the web, are they providing enough and stable enough power, as needed my the mobo? Anybody use one with what result?

A:How good are ATX12V adapter cables?

Hi Real....
I have never used one ,so I am sorry I can't offer you any advice based on experience. But ,I just question as to whether it is worth using one, given the core importance of that power block.Any voltage fluctuations +/- of the specific design parameters can cause all kinds of errors as you well know.
The upgade you are planning is significant and a compliant PSU is not much money.
Use the the old equipment for a nice little Backup server, etc.
Then have a cool one down at the Pub!

Yes, it won't run at Max performance likely without it plugged in or for long. You can set the battery charging as below which stops at 60% which extends its life we're told. When you need the max runtime just check the other radio button.

I have a Dell OptiPlex GX280 mini-tower (smallest one thereis), and the original 160W power supply died a few months ago without warning. I ordered a new power supply, but accidentally ordered the wrong size (210W for one of the larger towers). I used it in the meantime until I could get the proper size (although the 210W supply wouldn’t fit in the mini case – I left it out of the case and ran the wires through the power plug hole). The computer booted up just fine with this 210W power supply. I finally got around to ordering the 160W smaller correct size, but that power supply would not boot up the computer (just got an amber flashing light). Thinking it was just faulty, I sent it back and requested a replacement. The replacement did not work either. I ordered a third replacement, and the third did not work either! So now I am back to using the 210W power supply (No. HP-U2106F3) which does not fit in the computer housing. I know these Dell OptiPlex machines are notorious for having power supply and capacitor issues. But the question is, why will the computer power on using the 210W power supply? I contacted Dell and they were of no help whatsoever. The guy told me that 160W wasn’t enough to power my machine and to order a 210W power supply correctly sized for my chassis. Gee, thanks! First of all, they don’t make 210W that fit in the mini towers, and second of all, why did it used to work just fine??? Oh, and no I have not upgraded anything (i.e., video card, etc.) which... Hello guys. I have a little issue here. I've got a HP Mini 5103 netbook and I am using Ethernet connection for internet.
The problem is that every time when I am unplugging the the charger from the laptop (meaning: laptop is working on battery power).
I suppose it is some kind of power saving option, but the fact remains that it's totally sucks, cuz then I have to keep the charger plunged all the time.
I tried to check the Advanced power settings, but there is no option to change Ethernet power settings, also I checked in the Devise Manager in Advanced menu of the Ethernet,, but again no luck to find a setting that would disable that function.
Pleas if you know anything about this problem,, help me out here

A:HP Mini 5103 Ethernet is automatically disabling on battery power mode

Hikeman, have you tried the power settings in control panel?
Also, you are checking the power settings while running as administrator?

device manager. for the ethernet card should have a power settings tab if your in admin mode.
Also, you might check the bios settings for power.

If you have any other old dongle lieing about, it might work on Windows 7 already. I followed the link below and it worked for me. I was in exactly the same boat as you, looking for a Windows 7 dongle on google, and wasn't getting anywhere. Turned out I already had the solution in my desk.

Alternatively, go on any online store that allows comments and see what people have been saying. eBuyer is pretty good for that in the UK.

I'm getting wireless internet service for my new machine but i know very little about this stuff, i dont know which brands are good and so on. I called the phone company and asked them what do i need to put in my machine to be able to go wireless and i was told i need aq network 100 based T card and a USB 802.11g wireless adapter, I think they also said a PCMCIA one would work also, but i dont even know what that is and where it goes. At least with a USB i dont have that problem so i'll stick with them. Anyway, does anyone know of any good manufacturers of network cards and usb adapters? Or perhaps can recomend a specific card that would be worth getting?

A:Can someone recomend a good wireless USB adapter + network card?

If its a laptop, Linksys or Belkin are good makes of card, you would need a PCMCIA type or if your laptop has a slot you can get a MINIPCI Wireless card.

If its a desktop PC then the same makes apply, but you would need a PCI type card.

I dont see why the phone company are telling you to get a wired and a wireless NIC you only need a wireless NIC to go wireless.

As for USB let me tell you a story, up until a while back NTL my cable provider were issueing USB dongles for users new to broadband, however there use as a network adaptor was next to useless with constant dropouts and driver issues, to the point where they pulled the USB idea and insist on a wired NIC, the same goes for AOL, one of the biggest ADSL providers, they to used a ADSL modem with a USB connection until a while back, now there modem connects to the ethernet socket on the PC and doesnt have a USB socket anymore.

Short and long Linksys Belkin and avoid any USB dongles, thats my opinion anyway.

For the last two weeks, every time I start my Dell INSPIRON E1705 while using the power supply I am greeted with the following message. "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 90W AC adapter or higher for best system operation". I press the F1 Key and everything works fine. I've read about this on other websites and most say it's a design flaw in the power supply after the cord has been properly wound around the supply as designed. Apparently a few of the cords internal wire strands become broken and cause this message. My computer is from June 2006 and shouldn't be having this issue so early...or ever. This seems like a flaw that should have created some type of manufacturers recall since so many people are having this issue. I'm of course out of warranty, will Dell replace this free of charge?

A:Power Supply - "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined....."

You are correct, the failure is due toloss of the power supply ID signal. Sometimes this happens because of strain on the plug, which breaks the signal wire. Some even are so severe that the insulation breaks away from the plug; this is due to rough handling. The other cause is one or more of the power socket solder connections to the system board become broken. This also is related to severe handling. I have seen one case where all three power connections and three of four mechanical connections were disconnected. If the power supply is bad, a replacement will cure the problem. If not, then the socket is bad, and this will require a system board replacement. If you are experienced, you can try to resolder the connections. I am experienced and was not able to get my daughter's E6000 to work by resoldered. More recent Dells are using a replacable power connection board which is a much cheaper repair.

I'd like to extend the range of my laptop so that it can connect to my wireless router about 50 yards away. My workshop is in a metal shed away from the house and there are times that it would be nice to connect to the internet from there. I bought a D-Link N300 RangeBooster N USB Adapter at a garage sale and thought that might do the trick but the instructions say to delete all other wireless adapter software before installing which doesn't seem like a good idea to me since my machine, a Toshiba Satellite C75DB7230 is less than a year old. Is there a way to install this gadget and only activate it when I need it without fouling up the rest of the machine. I'm running Windows 10.

A:Installing second range booster wireless adapter - good or bad idea?

Hi Wolfie!

Open Network and Sharing Center. On the left, click change adapter settings. Right click on your built-in WiFi adapter and disable it. Then you should be good to go to install the USB WiFi adapter. That is how you can switch between the two.

Honestly, though, I doubt you get much better results from just another adapter with an internal antenna. I would suggest something like this:
Linksys RE6500 AC1200 Dual-Band Wireless Range Extender
(cheaper from ebay and Amazon)

If your workshop has a window, set it in the window to get a better "view" to the main router. My main router with WiFi is in the basement of my house. On the second floor I have the RE6500 unit in my daughter's bedroom. It not only repeats the WiFi signal from the basement, but also gives me gigabit wired ethernet ports that her TV and XBOX plug into. I get perfect signal and speed from it despite that the router it repeats from is two floors down and my 55" flat screen TV is exactly right between them on the first floor.

I have both the 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz channels set with the same SSID and password on both the main router and repeater. All my WiFi devices just connect to the same WiFi network and roaming throughout the house they just pick up the strongest signal and attach to it. I have fantastic full speed connection all the way from my hot tub in the back yard to the farthest room on the second floor.

I have a Toshiba Satellite C655D that needs a replacement ac power adapter, when I look it up it says I need:

Laptop AC Adapter: 19 Volts, 65 Watts, 3.42 Amps, 5.5mm x 2.5mm Connector

Someone gave me a new, in the box AC Adapter with USB port, made by Insignia.
The documentation says "converts 120v AC to 3-12v with 1300mA max output."

Can I use 45 Watt adapter for dell inspiron 15 5559?? I got the adapter along with the laptop when I bought it. But a warning is displayed on screen prompting me to use 65 Watt adapter... If so why 65 Watt adapter wasn't given with the laptop instead of 45 Watt?

A:Power adapter

The system is designed to support both 45W and 65W adapters - see the specifications here -
When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.
