Outlook warning: A program is trying to access e-mail

Q: Outlook warning: A program is trying to access e-mail

Outlook from Office XP Pro fully updated, keeps giving me the warning:

A program is trying to access e-mail addresses you have stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this?

...every time I use Outlook to send an email.

According to what i've seen on the web, there is no way around this security feature, but also seems like this warning should only pop up if another program is trying to access the address book, not when Outlook tries to access its own address book.

Does anyone else have this problem?
Is there a workaround?

I found this little program - http://www.contextmagic.com/express-clickyes/ It`s not so much a solution,
more an alleviation of the symptoms. If you have a good Firewall/Anti- spyware/Virus regime the "security feature"
shouldn`t be needed, anyway.Malware writers would get round it easily enough.

I'm getting the pop-up screen informing me that "A program is trying to access e-mail addresses..." I always run McAfee with continuous updating; I've run SPyBot and AdAware. Using these security apps, I've deleted/detroyed a worm and a number of files. However, teh problem persists and my Outlook now locks-up whenever I try to do anything.

I ran HiJackThis based on your advice in another thread and need assitance sorting-out what to do. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Hi
I used Word 2007 for mail merge to send about 1000 mails to my prospects
After I click the Merge and Complete button, for every email it sends, outlook pops a warning
"Some program is trying to access to send email. If it is not ok, click deny and check your virus settings ..."

I am forced to click "Allow" for every mail, this is too much to take for the number of mails I am sending
Is there a way to disable this warning system when I am doing a mail merge

Kindly help

Thanks and regards

I had to reinstall my MSN application because of a problem with my MSN Address Book. That went well but now the Outlook mail application cannot access my MSN mail folders. I get the following message when trying the access:

This error usually appears if the OST or PST file you are using is:
Unavailable
Protected with file permissions
On a share on a server and the network is down
Corrupt
To correct this problem, store the OST or PST file on the local computer.

Is there an easy way to address this?

Thank you!

After that new "security" update Ive been having problems trying to sync my phone with outlook 2003. Since outlook needs to be told that the sync program can access it, the sync program times out before I can hit "ok" and thus I'm unable to sync jack. I'm really getting sick of that security feature, and was wondering if anyone knew anyway to get rid of it. I've not heard of anyway, but if anyone knows I'll love you forever.

Hello Sparky,

Welcome to the Vista Forums.

Are you using Windows Mail? WM creates a list of the last 29 (I think) email addresses you have sent emails to. I suspect that is where the other names are coming from. More info here: Recently Used Addresses in Windows Mail

I'm using Outlook from Office 2007 and it doesn't seem to check for names until I hit the send button and I believe it is only using my Outlook contacts.

Hope this helps.

I am currently running Windows XP-Home and using Outlook Express 6 for my e-mail.

When I go to compose a new e-mail message I want to list all my recipients as "undisclosed". I have left the "to" box empty and put all the people in "bcc", but when I go to send it - it doesn't go because I have no one in the "to" box.

I've noticed other people have no problem when I receive e-mail from them - but I can't get it to work.

What am I doing wrong?

I get a dialogue pop-up from Outlook XP that says: A program is trying to access e-mail addresses you have stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this? If this is unexpected, it may be a virus and you should choose "No."
Then I can allow access for 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes or 10 minutes. My options are YES, NO, and HELP (which is no HELP).

I don't know what is causing this problem. This is a recent problem. I have run Spybot and Ad-Aware. I checked my spam filter, my anti-virus and my firewall - none seem to report this as an issue. I do not use free services for AV, Spam or firewall.

At this time I'm running a system-tray program called "Click Yes" to stop the annoying pop-up. Click Yes is a mailmate from Express-Soft.com. It automatically chooses YES each time the pop-up appears so that I don't have to. Yes isn't my optimal choice but I can't stand the constant interruption.

I have no idea what program is trying to access my addresses so I want to get rid of the message. If I click on ?Deny? or close the message it pops up again. So, I click to make it the default, click apply, ok, then exit, and restart the system. When I return, it tells me that OE is NOT my default mail handler. The system will not let me make a change. Hi,

I am using Outlook 2002, but not for email. For that I use Outlook express. My problem is when Outlook loads, I get two error messages (duplicates) that another program is trying to get my email addresses. I have a choice to let this program access Outlook longer (up to 10 minutes) or stop. But in reality, the only option that will work and let me continue is to let it access Outlook longer. Any idea what this is or how to stop it?
Thanks.

Hello - I was working on my computer when I was very tired & I briefly fell asleep with my keyboard as the pillow.

When I awoke.....I noticed that all of my "Sent Items" had disappeared. I probably had around 150 of them because from time to time I would need to refer back to one of them. If they are gone for good - that is going to be a real bummer.

My E-mail Program is Outlook Express. I went to the Recycle Bin in case they were there & they were not. I'm far from a computer whiz. I'm 60 years old so didn't study them in school. I moved from the West Coast To GA about 8 years ago.

When I lived out West I played a lot of poker, but when I moved to GA there were no Casino's with poker rooms in them or any stand alone poker rooms. Since I like poker so much I taught myself how to play poker online....these are real games for money....although since 2006....online poker for American players has gone downhill drastically because one retired senator decided he didn't like Americans playing poker.....so much for the land of the free.

I just mentioned the last paragraph so folks would know about how much experience I have. Of course, once I learned how to do other things on my computer such as burning CD's.....I have picked up some more computer knowledge....but I'm sure to most folks here I would be considered a novice.

I don't know if this is fixable....& if it possibly is....I'm not sure what other info to i... Read more

A:Solved: I have a question about my E-mail Program which is outlook express

I wasn't sure how to use the edit button on the post I made about 10 minutes b4 this one. One thing I just noticed in my E-mail program was that the number of "deleted items" is quite a bit higher than b4.

I also noticed that one of the 1st deleted items now is an e-mail I sent yesterday. I would say that it sorta looks like the "sent items" all moved to the "deleted items" but the number after deleted items now says 71 & I thought I had around 150 of them as I mentioned in the previous post.

But I guess its possible I was wrong about that. Anyway - is there a way to move the items that are now at "Deleted Items" back to the "Sent Files" area. I right clicked on the "Deleted Items"" heading &
I didn't see a way to move them back to "Sent Files" - but again, I'm a novice.

Any Help Again Would Be Very Appreciated. THANKS

Hello,

My OS is: Windows 10.

It all started when my mozilla thundebird program crashed. After that I was unable to launch again because it freezed just after had been launched.

I looked for the file thunderbird is using. It is "Inbox" file which size is around: 4 188 405 760 B.

The problem I thought it was that in total commander I couldn't preview the file. While other 3 GB I could do with no problem.
So maybe disc problem? I run chkdsk, it did its job, launch system again and the same happened.

When I hit copy on that file, there was always 0% status but when I gave it some time, after about 5 - 10 minutes it started copying!!! smoothly
and stucked again on 99% but succeeded. File being copied to another disc cannot be opened either! Hell knows what has happened...

When I used teracopy application it said that it failed on setting end of the file. System copies that file successfully in the end.

What is more. I realized that WIndows deffender started hitting 30% of CPU showing from time to time files diagnosed as malware.

So maybe I have some malware?

We need to send a form with it's data via e-mail when a record is either entered or updated.
My idea was to attach a command button to the form but I can't work out how to send the current form as an attachment via Outlook so that the form and it's data is displayed.
The standard formats aren't sufficient for the job as they either change the form layout, send all records or use Snapshot - which entails going to the corresponding folder\file.

Hi everyone, what is in your opinion the best anti-spam anti-phishing mail program?

As I got my new computer from Dell I got their McAfee security center and McAfee anti-spam. Well, I believe McAfee effects Internet Explorer performance, and I also believe is a cause of some mail not delivering to the people. I would like to get something different to replace McAfee (only mail program).

I used to have MailFrontier. It's pretty good , easy to customize. MailFrontier is not cheap - $30 per year. I am contemplating should I purchase it again, or there is another mail program as good, and could be one time purchase, instead of doing yearly membership.

What do you know guys?

Thanks a lot everyone!!!

I recently bought a new PC, went from XP to Vista. The new PC comes with IE 7.0.6000

I use MS Outlook 2000 as my email program.

I want to set Outlook 2000 as my default email program when I click on a MAILTO function in internet explorer. Instead, it defaults to MS Mail (any time I click an email address online, it opens MS Mail instead of Outlook)

I remember in IE it was very easy to set the default programs for various functions. Now when I try to set the default program, I can't change it from MS Mail to Outlook. I got to:

Tools
>Internet Options
>>Programs tab
>>>Set Programs

I then get options to:
-"Set your default programs"
But I can't find a way to set Outlook as my mail program
or this:
-"Associate a file type or protocol with a program"
Then I find the MAILTO protocol, and select "change program" but MS Mail is my only option. I want the MAILTO protocol to open up Outlook 2000, not MS Mail.

Thanks for any assistance!

You can't use Windows Mail for that. Windows Mail is only good for checking POP3 and IMAP email accounts. To use an email client to connect to an Exchange server, you need a more robust email handler such as Microsoft Outlook, which is included in the Microsoft Office suite of programs.

MS Outlook & Windows Live mail keeps asking me to enter a security code and other personal info that I don't feel I need to give to MS. I initially used a code number sent to an alternate e-mail address I had to open in order to receive the code, to verify my current e-mail account. I told MS I didn't want to keep doing this anymore, and asked them to either stop blocking my account or delete it. They still persist with requesting my personal info, phone numbers, creating alternate e-mail accounts and passwords, etc. I'm confused as to why they need to continually make you re-verify our personal info or give additional info ?

MS uses this catchall phrase to pump personal info on personal e-mail accounts: "Call us overprotective, but we want to make sure your account is secure?" Or we suspect someone "may be" trying to access your account? Yea me! WTH is this really all about? If I am thinking Patriot Act info, is this out of line?

I have had the same e-mail account for several years and never had any known issues or problems with hackers or otherwise? Personally, I think its just a ploy to collect personal info for some use other than to make my account secure. Like a government agency wanting MS to verify all e-mail account info?

Its not like I have a business account with big bucks here for a hacker to make some quick money? The giving of personal info should be up to the individual account holder, not a requ... Read more

While I understand why MS put this CYA message in their product it isn't very efficient when sending multiple emails at once from within another application. I was wondering if there is anyway to tweak this feature or opt not to install it?

Thanks for any ideas you have.

Mary

I have a third party management software that is capable of sending emails through Outlook. It grabs the addresses from Outlook. When I click the email integration, the following message appears: a program is trying to access email addresses you have stored in outlook. Then I will have to choose how many minutes of access are needed.

Are there tweaks to bypass this meesage and give full access to the address book? I've already found 3rd party warez, such as "Click Yes".

I bought a new laptop in Nov., a Dell Inspiron 640m with all the bells and whistles, running Windows XP (Home). I installed MS Office XP Pro (2002). Outlook worked fine at first but I initially had problems setting up my email account. While resolving that I checked a box on an option somewhere that has created a huge problem with Outlook. (I violated the cardinal rule of only making one change at a time!!)

Outlook constantly pops up a box tellling me that a program is trying to access my contact list and asking for permission (I would normally see this message if I were sync'ing my PDA with Outlook). This is an incessant request and the only way to stop it is to say "yes" and give it a timeframe (or exit Outlook). If I don't get to the warning quickly enough, numerous instances of the warning box appears. I have thoroughly scanned my computer for viruses numerous times, so this is not a virus. I do recall making changes to the options but I can't remember what box I checked that has caused this - but the problem started right then. I've uninstalled Office then reinstalled it thinking that would restore the defaults but this did not resolve the problem. I've been using Outlook Express which does not have the problem but I want to ultimately be able to sync my Palm with Outlook so I need to repair this. (I just closed 8 instances of the warning and it had only been waiting for a few seconds!!!)

Thank you!

A:Outlook 2002 - "program Trying To Access Contact List"

Hi RRider, welcome to BC.
Only two things come to mind that normally would set off that security warning.
In Outlook, go to Tools>Options>Mail Format Tab.
Under the message format options, deselect the two "Use Microsoft Word" options.
If it still doesn't help, go to Tools>Options>Other Tab. Click the Advanced Options button, then the COM Add-ins button. An application in there may set it off as well. Remove one at a time. If you see Adobe's Acrobat listed, leave that one there. There is a reg fix that works better then just removing it.

When trying to access Microsoft Outlook from my HP Printer scan program, while opening outlook, it continues to pop up the Internet Email Window. Server: imap.gmail.com, User Name: mine, Password:******. It doesn't matter what I enter, even the correct info as I know, and it continues to pop up, even though I say "OK". Also the opposite window pops up Server: smtp.gmail.com, User Name: mine, Password: ******. Why can't I get this to stop. I can't even continue typing a sentence because it pops up every few seconds. I keep having a issue with MS Outlook & Windows Live mail. I keep getting asked to enter a security code and other personal info that I don't feel I need to give to MS. I initially used a code number sent to an alternate e-mail address I had to open in order to receive the code, to verify my current e-mail account. I told MS I didn't want to keep doing this anymore, and either stop blocking my account or delete it. They still persist with requesting my personal info, phone numbers, creating alternate e-mail accounts and passwords, etc. I'm totally confused?

MS uses this catchall phrase to pump personal info on personal e-mail accounts: "Call us overprotective, but we want to make sure your account is secure?" Or we suspect someone "may be" trying to access your account? Yea me! WTH is this really all about? I also have had the same e-mail account for several years and never had any security issues or problems? Personally, I think its just a ploy to collect personal info for some use other than to make my account secure.

Its not like I have a business account with big bucks here for a hacker to make some quick money? The giving of personal info should be up to the individual account holder, not a requirement by MS.

Any solutions here? Should I save my e-mail account info to a flash drive or something and find another e-mail service provider that is less intrusive? If so, any other e-mail provider recommendations?

Or other soluti... Read more

I feel your pain - Gmail is just about as bad.

Drop the "service" and pay a small amount for a different service. I switched to fastmail.fm - price is very low and service has been fantastic.

I dropped the MS account long ago and cleaned out my Gmail so there is nothing to see. Have to keep it in order to update my Android tablet otherwise I would trash it, too.

Recurring pop-up at start-up of Outlook (not Express) "A program is trying to access email address you have stored in outlook. do you want to allow this?"

This pop-up (and its 50+ brothers) comes up at start-up, and occurs at least a few other times during the day. I have to clear all 50-100 of them (I click 'no" repeatedly on each pop-up) before I can make a single stroke in Outlook. This is the same Outlook program that I have been using for years without problems, but this began after reformatting of this machine, a Dell Inspirion 1520.

I have tried in vain to determine WHAT program is trying to access my emails, but to no avail. It doesn't seem to be my security ware, which was my first suspect.

My security software is CA Security Suite 2007
Windows XP 2002, home edition, service pack 3
MS Office for Students & Teachers

Any ideas?

Hey gang,

I'm using Outlook 2000 & everytime I try to create a new message a pop-up box appears. The message reads as follows.

"A program is trying to access e-mail addresses that you have stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this?

If this is unexpected, it may be a virus and you should choose "No".

I'm then given the option to allow access for 1, 2, 5, 10 minutes etc...

I'm hoping somebody can help.

Thanks,

What I am want to know is what is the program that others use to do this? Does windows 2000 server or advanced server have some built in function that does this? I realize Microsoft's mail program is Exchange but we use Notes. So since we use Notes does this require a 3rd party app to forward the mail messages?

what she had me search for was an .exe file called jdbgmgr.exe
it has a little teddy bear icon next to it and it was in my systems32 folder. should i or should i not delete this. what is it? and why would someone want me to delete it?

for example if i download a program like process hacker under w7 i have a window like this
under w8.1 i haven't it
and i have never changed any settings

thanks

A:why no warning when i run a program downloaded ?

Windows 8 uses the SmartScreen filter to perform an application reputation check, and it now does system wide (not just when downloading programs with Internet Explorer like it did before).

In Windows 7 when launching these downloaded applications, you get the following notification:

In Windows 8, SmartScreen will only notify you when you run an application that has not yet established a reputation and therefore is a higher risk:

The user experience for applications with an established reputation is simple and clean: you just click and run, removing the prompt you would have seen in Windows 7.

Don I might be way off track here mate but was the Outlook account the same email address as you have set up in WLM?

Just a thought you might try adding an account to WLM using the old address and password. I did this with my old account from my service provider then went to a Hotmail account.
Now admittedly it was still within WLM but worth a try.

What I will do is try and add my work account (Outlook) to my WLM and see if it works.

PS It added the account but I have to get the POP and STMP settings right first.

I have one e-mail address I use, it is under verizon.net. My servers are:

outgoing.verizon.net (i've also tried the other smpt.outgoing.verizon.net (if that's correct)).

Nothing has worked. I can receive e-mails, but whenever I want to send an e-mail, I have to go straight to the verizon.net website, and copy & paste the subject, the e-mail address, and the e-mail itself. Can anybody help? I am really lost, I've looked every where for a solution! I just want some ease in sending my e-mails & receiving them ALL with Outlook Express.

I use DSL (with verizon).

Hello,
I would like to set the following up. My main office pc sends and receives email from / to my business email address using Outlook 2002. I have the usual spam issues and use McAfee Security Centre which does a pretty good job in dealing with them and keeping them out of my inbox but I do receive literally a 1000 a day.

Now I have a networked PC running an EPOS system on the shop floor. It would be useful to forward certain emails regarding customer orders to this machine to deal with.

Now here's my question. Is it possible to set up Outlook or Thunderbird or something on the shop floor pc to ONLY receive email from the office machine, either from the specific email address that outbound mail from that the office pc would use, or via some other mechanism? But NOT from ANY other email account and certainly not from the internet at large. What I'm trying to avoid is the shop floor machine being swamped with spam even if it's dealt with properly whenever I receive the forwarded mails.

If I did want to send email from the shop floor machine, could I use the same business email address? (Or would I have to have a seperate email address?) This isn't essential but might be useful.

I guess I could simply set up a webmail account which I forward certain emails to and log into that from the shop floor pc which is always connected to the internet via our network, although we will be browsing from that machine only when absolutely necessary to check stock a... Read more

Hi, My name is Fran. I've had something strange going on for a while (a month?) and I thought I'd give this a shot to figure out what the problem is. As I said in the Topic title, I have blank Outlook 2003 emails that keep showing up in my Inbox/Sent Mail/Deleted Mail Folders for my hotmail account in Outlook 2003. They all are the same size, but have various times. I contacted Microsoft, and they suggested that I reset my passwordsand security questions for all of my email accounts. I did this, but the problem has continued in my Hotmail account in Outlook 2003. This has made me suspect that I have something on my computer that picked up the new password. I fear that someone or something is hijacking my computer and want to put a stop to it. I read something today about HijackThis and decided to give it a try. I installed the software and ran a scan generating a log file. Some of you may be aware of Stardock, they have various programs that can help change the look of your desktop, from icon packages, log-up screens, boot up screens, etc. You can change your Vista look to an older version of XP or another previous windows theme, or even a customized look. It seems like a lot of fun, but beware. I tried using a few of the programs to switch my boot and log-on screen looks, I had a not so friendly encounter with the blue screen of death after trying to reboot to view my changed stetting. The program corrupted one or more of my system files and rendered my windows unusable. I couldn't log into safe mode, do an image restore, I had no options. Had to start from scratch, format the partition and reinstall Vista. Lost everything, and I even still had that fatal system error pop up one time after reinstall, it hasn't come up since, but who knows if it's still lingering around.

A:Outlook Express mail appeared as Bulk Mail when received

Sounds like they might be suggesting you are sending email to them using CC (carbon copy) with a lot of other address's included. Its generally not good practice to use CC as it exposes all address's to all recipients. If you use BCC (blind carbon copy) the individual recipients do not see who else is getting a copy of the email.

Therefore, I imported all my many e-mail accounts to Windows Live Mail from previously saved IAF files. Until here all worked as expected. In Maiil Washer Pro it says you can import you Outlook Junk Mail list into the Mail Washer Blacklist as long as it's a text file. When I go to my Outlook Junk mail list and open it with "edit" it shows me all the names but I'm unable to copy them using the clipboard (Ctrl C command) I tried pressing the copy All command Ctrl A but it doesn't highlight them and I don't seem to be able to find the name of the Outlook Junk Mail file so that i can open it and copy them from it-any sugestions ? Hi

Our old XP machine harddrive has just died! This has OE6 on it... I'm now on a Win7 PC with Windows Live Mail... I am trying to find an import option to bring in all my old backed-up folders in the dbx format without any luck.

Any suggestions? I did try Thunderbird then gave up!!

A:Importing Outlook Express mail into Windows Live Mail

I did it a long time ago and cannot recall my method.

If you pound google, you will find numerous methods. If one doesn't work, move on to the next. I do recall that it is a hit and miss affair, so be prepared to experiment.

Primary advice: be sure you have multiple copies of your DBX folders and keep one copy of each folder safe and unaltered. Try the various methods you discover on a copy of the DBX folders.

I been using Outlook 2003 for 5-6 years and have about 4000 Outlook e-mails saved including a folder which contains all my purchased software serial numbers. I carefully exported all my Outlook 2003 e-mails before switching to Windows mail. I have discovered to my dismay, that Windows mail can not import Outlook mail and somehow in the process of installing Windows mail, my Outlook 2003 program disappeared. My old 2003Student and Teacher Office disk which contained the Outlook 2003 software is too scratched to reinstall. I have looked for some kind of Outlook to Windows Mail converter from Microsoft; but no luck so far. I am absolutely amazed that Microsoft would publish a new mail program and not include import routines for its own legacy mail programs. Outlook 2007 apparently has the same problem with Windows Mail. Even if I purchase a replaacement disk from Microsoft ( I have the orginal box and serial number for my Student and Teacher Office package, so I thick I could still get a replacement disk), I would still have to use two e-mail programs and eventually Outlook 2003 would stop working with some future OS upgrade). Any suggestions??

Hi friends~

I'm about ready to pack Outlook Express 6 in and send it to the graveyard. I thought I'd get some help here first.

The strangest thing has been happening. My wife and I each have an account (identity) on the same computer using Outlook Express. I'm starting to get her email in my inbox. I even sent her an email and sure enough it went to my address instead. I right clicked the message I sent to her and then clicked properties/details. The path clearly shows it was destined to her account, yet I'm getting her mail.
-I've done a google search and scoured Microsoft's website. I can't find a single reference to this problem.
-I've called my ISP and they said Outlook Express is malfunctioning but could not be more specific. They said it needs to be repaired and told me to go to the Add/Remove file , highlight Outlook Express and click add/remove. I tried that and it asked me if I was sure I wanted to remove the program. I got nervous and cancelled the procedure because I didn't see anything about "repairing" Outlook Express. I thought I was going to end up removing it completely. I'd like to avoid having to re-install it.
-I went into Tools/accounts/properties to see if something was amiss. The configurations appear correct.

Has anyone experienced this and/or have any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Thanks

Beagle

After installing SP2 on my Vista Business OS laptop I could no longer send and receive all my mail in Windows Mail.
I had my BT Yahoo mail account set up to deliver all my mail to my POP inbox. This included mail from 2 other servers which could then be accessed through my Mail Inbox. Several of the email addresses are used for a web page that I maintain on an Apache server and cannot be accessed in any other manner. The other server that had mail forwarded to my Inbox can be accessed with HTTP and is not so important, yet still irritating.

Microsoft's answer to problems with the (now unsupported, apparently) Windows Mail that all Vista users have paid for, seems to be exclusively to tell everyone to move to using Windows Live Mail.
So I downloaded it most reluctantly. And it also does not work with these forwarded mail addresses. Just keep getting asked for a password over and over.

I can go to the BT Yahoo server and send mail there out of these external addresses but it is not possible to receive mail.

So is that it, Microsoft? Can I no longer access these accounts at all?

I would change to using Mozilla Thunderbird but it has no facility for importing my huge store of Windows Mail Messages.

Any suggestions anybody, I have spent many hours on this and it is driving me demented. All real help would be most appreciated.

Hi when receiving or sending attachments with photos in it a message comes up saying. Windows Mail Removed access to the following unsafe attachment in you mail. I am now unable to receive my attachments which have photos in it or sent attachments with photos in it.

I know that the attachments are not unsafe.
Can someone please help me with this problem

A:Windows Mail Removed access to the following unsafe attachment in you mail

Try this in Windows mail go to the tools tab>safety>security>uncheck do not allow attachments that can be harmful.

If you try this option and it indeed works, think about what you have just done. You get a virus attachment, you will probably open it.

Take care.

Hi, I recently had some fake antivirus popup appear on my computer. I immediately scanned my computer and removed some viruses, but after that i began to get these bad image popups. I didnt pay any attention to what the actual virus was called at the time.

The message has a heading "Program.exe - Bad Image".
And inside the popup it says "The application or DLL C:\...\73058kou.DLL is not a valid windows image. Please check against your installation diskette".

Just recently the popup has begun to come up twice every time i open any program.

Also, ive tried to run GMER, but it always ends up freezing midway through the scan.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My Toshiba laptop battery (vista) keeps dying without any pop up warning whatsoever. I can assign a sound to remind me, but I usually have the volume turned down. I would prefer a pop up warning. My other Dell laptop has a pop up bubble that comes up at various stages of battery power. Is there some way to get this from Vista, or maybe independent software for this?

A:LOW laptop battery pop-up warning program needed

Copy the text in the following code block into Notepad.
Save it on the desktop as BatCheck.vbs. Be sure to change the Save as Type: box to All Files when saving.

Code:
[plain]strComputer = "."
Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:\\" & strComputer & "\root\wmi")
Set colItems = objWMIService.ExecQuery("Select * From BatteryStatus Where Voltage > 0")
For Each objItem in colItems
If objItem.PowerOnline = True Then
Msgbox "Running On Battery" & vbCRLF & "Remaining capacity: " & objItem.RemainingCapacity, vbOkOnly + vbCritical + vbSystemModal
End If
Next
[/plain]
While connected to AC power with the battery fully charged, double click the file to run it.
It will display a popup saying you are running on battery, and a Remaining capacity number. I need the number when the battery is fully charged. Then I can modify this a bit so it will display percent remaining. Then we run the modified script as a scheduled task every 5-10 minutes, and only display the popup when the percentage drops below whatever number you want.

From Privacy Software Corporation Security Advisory Sunday, February 16, 2003:
KAZAAKRYPTON TROJAN HORSE PROGRAM

SYNOPSIS:

KAZAAKRYPTON (and similar programs such as IGLOO KAZAA) are the beginning of a new trend in trojan horse backdoors which take advantage of people downloading "cracked" or "free" software, music, or pornography from Kazaa and Kazaa-like file sharing servers on the internet. KAZAAKRYPTON, IGLOO and a few others we have seen in the last few days all share a commonality. These backdoors depend on people downloading an executable file or archive of interest and then end up opening up a hidden backdoor server on their machine which then joins the file sharing networks, serving up more copies of the trojan among whatever files "innocent" users add to the "collection."

Analysis of these new trojans has determined that once initiated, they begin making multiple copies of themselves into a subfolder of the main "Windows" folder on the affected machines. The files produced tend towards 6 new copies of the original trojan per minute, rapidly filling up the hard disk of the victim with deliberately named filenames of differing size. The resizing of the copies and the filenames, often containing names shown above in order to entice downloading, makes it extremely difficult for a Kazaa or similar file sharing host to be able to determine which files are legitimate and which are backdoors. Because of the manner in w... Read more

My questions relate to when downloaded Windows Installer Packages <WIPname>.msp update files from my ISP have no verifiable signature certificates, and there is a Security Warning message window, but the CRCs and file sizes can be verified - is it advisable to proceed to try the installation? My security settings for IE are set to medium, and I run the latest TrendMicro PC-cillin anti-virus software, and turning PC-cillin off gets the same response - i.e. I don't think that running PC-cillin is causing this situation.

okay depending on your answers to the following questions, my answer will either yes or no.

1) are you sure that you are downloading from the site you think you are at, or are you at a spoof site?

if you are sure that you're at the real site and not a spoof site (spoof site= fake version of a well-known and trusted website, designed to trick users into giving info to the fake version, cuz they think they're sending it to the trusted and well-known site, i.e. Yahoo or eBay), then proceed with caution.

if you aren't sure, then contact the company the site is for and ask if they are really the site you think they are. spoof sites probably won't get back with you but "real' sites will.

post back with anything else you think be helpful for us peoples to solve ur problem.

One of the problems your going to face is getting labeled as a spammer. If your sending these internally it may not be a problem. The standard answer for this is to Outsource this if your sending over 100. Good decision not to launch the real one yet.

An computer illiterate friend of mine has two e-mail accounts. One is with her ISP (SBC's DSL) via Outlook Express (OE) and the other is with Yahoo. For some inexplicable reason, Yahoo e-mail has started intercepting her OE messages. And she, like many, has her OE programmed to run continuously and check for messages every few minutes. But she might not check her Yahoo mail for days.

Do any of you have any suggestions as to how she might tweak her system to insure that messages destined for her primary address go to OE?

Hi all
This is quite a complex operation and MS doesn't actually explain how to do it so here goes.

The trick is to get your email messages into Outlook Express (OE on XP) or Windows Mail (on Vista) before you can import into Windows Live mail. Then the import can be done directly.

There isn't any way currently to import mail directly from Outlook to Windows Live Mail so you have to do it indirectly BEFORE installing Windows 7.

1) even if you don't use Outlook Express (XP) or Windows Mail (VISTA) you need to have them running on the same machine as your copy of OUTLOOK.

2) create (if you haven't already) email accounts in OE or Windows mail identical to those you have in Outlook.

3) Now import your messages from Outlook into OE or Windows Mail.

4) Change the Store Identity in OE or Windows mail to a disk that your W7 can read (do this under Maintenance - data storage locations in OE or Windows Mail).
Doing this saves you having to install Live Mail on Vista or XP

5) Logon to your W7 system and install Windows Live mail.

6) Set up your email accounts

7) File ==> import==>messages

8) Chose Outlook express or Windows mail depending on step 3)

9) Browse to the directory where you stored the messages in step 4)

10) Job done.

A bit fiddly but obviously MS don't want to make it easy for people to switch from Outlook

Note also the "Send and Receive" function is calles "SYNC" in Windows Live mail -- confusing but there it is.

Hello,

I have a fun problem here. (Note I am being srcastic ).

I recently updated my motherboard, CPU, Ram, and graphics card and swapped over my old hardware to make a new system. I can do upgrades for the board up, but I had Frys do it since I purchased the items there. Needless to say, they have not done a good job.

They suggested I purchase a new Hard Drive so the install of Vista could go there and not touch my other two Hard Drives. I did this and when I finally got the system up and running. I am unable to restore my old mail. Vista and the new Mail and Outlook are on the C: Drive. The old install of Vista was on another drive, and I have been able to find the Windows Mail Folder, but have not been able to restore my old e-mails. The same is true for Outlook. I am missing most of my media contacts in the last 6 months as my ISP wiped all the old sent folders today leaving me with no way to follow up on e-mails from the last day much less the last 6 months.

Thank you,

I am using multiple mail accounts at work, some of which require me to use access cards at specific work stations.

I wonder if there is a way to have MS Outlook to send me a notification from my mail account B to my primary mail account A whenever my mail account B recieves an email, because I simply have no time running back and forth between workstations checking for emails that may not be there anyway.

Because of security policies, I can not simply forward mails from account B to account A, so what I need is Outlook to email me a notification saying "an email has been recieved" - nothing about the subject and/or content of the recieved email.

This would be pretty much like the notification on for example smartphones saying "one new email", but for obvious reasons I can not access this account with my smartphone, nor would I be allowed to anyway.

Is this possible, and if so, how?

Thanks in advance!
