Virus? Unexplained "Exclaimation.wav" sounds and constantly non-responding programs..

Q: Virus? Unexplained "Exclaimation.wav" sounds and constantly non-responding programs..

One morning, a few days ago, I literally woke up, got on my computer, and noticed that everything went incredibly slow... This was incredibly nerve-wracking for me.So I ran AVG antivirus, turned up a couple trojans, deleted them... still having the problems. This list of problems includes (But may not be limited to):General Slowing (Programs, Opening/Closing, Minimizing/Maximizing, etc.)Non-Responsive Programs (Small actions like opening additional windows causing non responsive programs)Unexplained occassional 'exclaimation.wav' alert sounds - even while internet and programs are inactiveI thought it was malware or something, but usually such infections WANT something, and make it CLEAR that they want you to buy their antivirus, which IS the virus, etc. If this is an infection, it hasn't done anything to expose itself. I've scanned repeatiedly with no results, and I have been recently considering wiping the C drive and reinstalling my OS from the hidden recovery disc partition inside my laptop (Gateway Notebook Model: KAV60), because this computer is frankly starting to be more trouble than it's worth.I've tried running System Restore, because that is normally my trump card against viruses. But it doesn't ever restore successfully. It always says "No changes have been made" (between now and the restore date).....That alert is about to drive me insane, but I don't want to disable it. I want to find the root of the problem.I've downloaded "HiJackThis" and saved a log file, which I'll attach. If you take this into consideration and try to help, [email protected]

My Sony Vaio VGN-NR38S/S laptop keeps freezing up with everything not responding.
I have AVG free edition 2011 and is all up to date my most recent scan has found 1 infection
"Infection";"Trojan horse Java/Agent.CO";"C:\Users\wookie\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\7\46113147-102a5c79";"N/A";"14/05/2011, 00:42:37"
I also have Malwarebytes and this will update fine but will not respond when doing a full system scan constantly says not responding so unable to complete the scan this has been going on for about a week now.
Steps I have taken so far from this forum.
1. Spyware and Malware Removal Self-Help Guides (my problem isn't in there)
2. Full system backup
3. Slow Computer/browser? Check Here First; It May Not Be Malware (checked fans and hoover dust on a regular basis, defragment the hard drive, run disk cleanup, Disabled indexing and in msconfig have disabled only programs that are not anything to do with microsoft or the running of the pc but have left AVG)
4. Run DDS (will include log later when requested)
5. Unable to run GMER.exe as after about 1 minute I get the blue crash dump screen.

DDS attached

Hey everyone! I am new to the forum and needed some help

Recently on my computer all my programs have been "Not Responding" every 5 - 10 minutes and it gets very annoying.

My computer also randomly freezes and also restarts all on its own.

-----
I tried many anti virus/malware etc... programs and none have solved the problem!

What I used:
Anti Malware Bytes
Anti Root Kit
Super Anti Spyware
AVAST anti virus
CCleaner (Reg cleaner, etc)

Nothing has fixed my issue. I usually can fix issues on my own but this is really getting on my nerves and I don't know what to do..

I have googled my issue and I seen many posts about my issue here but nothing worked for me.

PS: I also sometimes get random BSODS but happens very randomly sometimes often, and sometimes it doesnt happen in a week.
If you guys can help me out with my problem I will really appreciate it. I honestly don't want to restore my whole PC because I have a lot of important things on here which I can't back up.

A:All programs not responding - PC constantly restarts and Freezes

find the dumps from the BSODS and post them and i will see if I can get one of the analysts to have a look.

Hi, I would really like some help to solve the problem I am having. Whenever I open a program or file, it will almost ALWAYS stop responding for about 5-10 seconds, then work fine for a small amount of time, then go back to not responding again when i click something. This has been happening for about a week now, and I have already ran multiple virus and malware scans on my computer, like Avast Antivirus, MalwareBytes, and Windows Defender. I would really like someone to help me solve this problem, because my PC is just becoming more and more unusable . I have a Windows 8.1 64-bit PC with Intel quad 1.7 Ghz processor and 6 Gb of RAM.

A:Computer constantly not responding when opening programs

Have you tried and/or looked at any of the following?

Number of programs in Start-Up list
How much memory is in use
Check fragmentation % of your HD
Deleted temp files and/or internet files
Run some basic diagnostics like sfc /scannow

First of all, if this subforum is not the correct one, let me know so that I can change it.

Despite the many posts about the same issue, I haven’t found any ‘how to post about’ post for this type of problem, so I think it’s better to attach the following and wait to see if some expertise offers some guidelines.

I inherited the laptop recently, so I do not know when this really started to happen.
I’ve reinstalled windows twice and stop the ‘windows update’ for updates make the system freeze even more constantly.

Thank you so much in advance.

It happens more than I'd like it to. It usually happens when ...

1) I half-and-half things, meaning, I press windows key+left or right arrow and place 1 thing on half of the screen and 1 thing on the other. For example, if I put my google chrome browser on the left and something i'm watching on VLC media player on the right, while I'm watching what I'm watching, if I go to something on google chrome and maybe open up 2-3 tabs of something random, my google chrome will keep flashing (not responding) at the top and my cursor will go between the normal cursor and the "page loading" cursor ever .001 seconds or something, almost like it's having a seizure. It's so annoying. Usually to get past this "seizure" my browser has, i click somewhere else not on the browser and it stops momentarily.

2) Also, sometimes when I half-and-half my browser and microsoft word 2010, if im typing on google chrome, my page might "sneeze" (and by sneeze, i mean, act weird for like... a milisecond) and all of a sudden I'm typing on microsoft word. It's really weird and I don't understand it. How in the world can i be typing on chrome and all of the sudden start typing on microsoft word?

Sorry if this doesnt make sense, but i explained it the best way i could

I have a Dell XPS L501x laptop. A test showed that the hard drive was going to fail, so I had Dell replace it (it's under warranty until December). I installed Windows 7 on the new HDD and I've had problems basically since the beginning. What happens is my programs will hang, with the (Not Responding) message on the top of the window. This will last for anywhere between 10 seconds to a couple minutes. I called Dell again about this and was told that the problem was Chromium, my browser. I uninstalled it and the problems persisted with Firefox, so they told me to install Windows again. I did this and I'm having the same problems. I have Chrome installed now. One thing I've noticed is that Flash occasionally crashes, but this is a separate error message so I don't know how related it is. Chrome isn't the only program locking up. Word, notepad, and basically everything else I have open will lock up, but as far as I can remember this only happens when I have my browser open as well.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I've tried to look up solutions but I couldn't find anything that seemed to match my particular problem. I did not have this problem before my new HDD was installed but I can't tell if this is a software or hardware issue. I have 6GB RAM so that shouldn't be an issue.

I have MSE and nothing else and Windows is fully updated.

A:Programs constantly not responding, possibly Chrome related

Chrome has been locking up user's computers:

Google Groups[1-25-false]

It's probably the culprit. You say that you uninstalled it and the problem didn't go away? You might have to reinstall Windows again, and this time don't install Chrome and see what happens. It could also be hardware related, but you need to make sure it is without having Chrome installed.

So I'm using Windows 8.1 Pro on my laptop and everytime a program hangs for a second, a "this X program is not responding" message appears and it's getting quite irritating really. I understand that programs might hang here and there because I'm on a low resource laptop but everytime this happens, Windows think the program completely crashed and the dialog appears everytime. I did have the same hanging problem with Windows 7 before (mainly with programs like Firefox and such) but the message didn't appear everytime. Help would be appreciated.

I think the key here is that you're on a "low resource laptop". I checked to see what your system specs are and all I see is that your computer is a laptop and you have Windows 8.1 Pro.

We need more information than that before we can help you:

Brand Name of Laptop
CPU type and speed.
How many GBs RAM?
How many GBs HDD space?
Video card or integrated?
GPU type and speed.

My first suspicion is that you have too much operating system for your "low resource" computer.

I wish I could offer more help, but I don't know enough about your system yet.

Hello there. I've been tearing myself up trying to figure out this problem, and I've begun to suspect that it might be some kind of virus causing it. I really have no idea what else could.

It started very simply. A while ago, I started getting IM beeps like AIM had been getting messages, but there weren't any. That went away after a day or so, but was replaced by a strange bell sound that I could not find a source or reason for anywhere on my computer. The ringing would only come every 1-4 hours or so, and I couldn't find any reason for it.

However, I didn't start to really suspect malware until the scratching started. It's certainly a noise coming from my speakers (Headphones, anyway) and not from my computer components. It happens semi-frequently (About once every 10 minutes), and is a pair of very quick scratches, like someone brushing a finger along a microphone. It continued like that for about an hour, until I enabled Windows Firewall, at which point it went away and I haven't heard it since. I'd appreciate any help you people can offer, and apologize in advance is this turns out to be some minor little obvious problem which a thinking person would have seen in 5 minutes.

(EDIT: Turns out I am still hearing the scratching, even with my firewalls on.)

Over the last couple of weeks, several things have began to occur which really should not. The most recent being that explorer.exe seems to 'reference memory that cannot be "written"' and causes an error report prompt to appear - after which all explorer windows running close.

This is perhaps not so urgent, but a great inconvenience. Another error that has been occuring is that, with no apparent cause, the screen will go blank and then begin again at the BIOS screen for a restart - closing all applications of course and causing work to be lost. It is sometimes the case that applications will inexplicably be missing once the system has rebooted. For example, I have in the last 2 weeks lost Internet Explorer, Itunes, Photoshop CS2, Windows Media Player and also all the default Windows games during such restarts!

From memory, there is a message upon restarting saying that 'Windows has recovered from a serious problem', I think mentioning something about being caused by a driver problem. However, when trying to update to more recent drivers I would always find that I am already using the most recent ones available.

I don't really have the funds to replace my entire PC, so hopefully there is something (concerning either hardware or software) that I can do to cure this. Thanks for any help!

Hi. I just posted something and it was instantly deleted. I am being constantly hacked by a persistent hacker it seems, I guess this will be deleted as well but I will try again...

anyway, I have been messing around with windows xp again on one of my slower comps having downgraded it from win7. I have reformatted several times and I believe I need to flash my bios as it seems likely I may have a brutal firmware virus because strange symptoms always return.

woah... as I am writing this I happened to have malwarebytes open (I don't keep it open) and it just said ''successfully blocked connection to 'incoming' suspicious site''. geez... I guess I am infected? Maybe I should leave it up permenantly. heh. Another bizarre thing I noticed was in task manager I had this filename b4523-43532b-512234g-7hbh34-43g.com running. I looked where it was and it was located in super anti spyware's directory. I don't think this is a normal SAS file is it? I closed it and deleted it and SAS still seems to work. What the heck was that?

Anyway, the PRIMARY symptom I notice is that occasionally I get these hard drive sounding shut down/restarts. Maybe it's a cpu fan shut down/re-activate, I'm not sure. What happens is the pc fan will entirely stop for several seconds, then I will hear a winding whine type noise and it will reactivate. During this point the os temporarily freezes (even the touchpad) and... A:Programs not responding, freezing after virus removal

System manufacturer and model?

Chances are...key system files were damaged, possibly during your removal efforts or by the malware itself.

Since the system has not performed properly since your removal efforts...how do you know that the system is not still infected? What would make you think that all malware is now removed?

When running Reg Cleaner 4.3, I had it review the software on my computer. It reported four items I cannot account for. And I do not know what to do about them. My initial inclination is to delete. But I am wondering if it is possible that they are part of some other program(s) I am running. I don't think so. And I know I never downloaded these items. I would like to list these four as they appear by Author and Software and request comments as to whether you guys think they arrived by some means other than my placing there. And, if so, may I delete with impunity?

They all should be safe to delete.
Definitely delete the 1st one and the 4th one. If you use SpyCop Spyware Killer, I would get rid of it. there are free progs that are much better.

Hello

I have had online poker client software installed on my computer and about 2 months ago one of the programs began malfunctioning, as I would attempt to open the program and it would terminate instantly.
I brought this up to some support staff at the respective poker site and they gave many suggestions but nothing yielded, thier opinion was that I had a few remnants of old anti-virus software installed and that it was interfering with the program when it attempts to connect to the net on startup.
Recently however completely unrelated poker software began to malfunction in the exact same way, and along with it a peer-to-peer program ("emule") also stopped working properly.
Emule still connects and I am able to download, but only through a specific network that isn't the main server network, so the files are limited, and so is the connectivity. Where these things weren't as such before.

The two poker software programs are "Pokerstars" and "Paradise Poker".

I tried a few things like changing the IP of my computer after getting a prompt from "Gamespy Arcade" software which said there were problems connecting to thier network because my external and internal IPs were different. (However now that I've ran Hijackthis it appears gamespy itself may have contained some malicious material).
The IP changes did not work.

Any insight at all would be a great help.

Hi all,
I usually try and look around before posting a plea for help on a forum because the answer is usually online somewhere already and I often can find it!

Unfortunately, this time nothing has worked and in the midst of exams, the last thing I need is a busted/infected Laptop!

First things first, my computer is a:

Toshiba Satellite L755-1HW
Running: Windows 7 Home premium, Service Pack 1
Intel i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50GHz processor
6GB RAM
64-bit operating system

I am certain that this is one virus, that causes a multitude of problems:
It is blocking any program that: a) requires Administrator privileges and is an anti-virus program (including programs like Norton AV which already has admin privileges)!
I can no longer access the internet (in normal and in the various 'Safe Modes')
Startup programs (like Skype) provide error in opening messages (e.g. 'This application was unable to start correctly (0x0000022). Click OK to close the application')
The admin. privilege .exe's either a) don't respond (Norton AV) or provide this cheerful message: 'C:/Program Files (x86)/Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware/mbaum.exe [for e.g.] This program does not exist as an installed service.' - It is definitely installed!
The Laptop has also slowed down a lot just today (after I realised something was going on and tried to rectify the problem!)
Summary of recent events:
2/3 days ago I was prompted to download a large update from Symantec for Norton Internet Securit... Read more

Background ads sounds keep running on my laptop. The ads start about a minute after windows starts and keep running, sometimes even two, three or four ad sounds run simultaneously. I have tried various solutions given at this forum as well as many other forums but to no avail. I initially posted my problem at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/519885/background-ad-sounds-keep-running-on-my-laptop/ and got some help from Broni. Windows XP - My computer started making the popcorn popping sound like it is constantly writing to the hard drive and the computer is slow or occasionally gets hung up. Not sure if it's related, but recently I received hundreds of mail delivery failure notices in Outlook Express for mail I had not sent to people I do not know/have in my address book. I changed my password and it stopped for a month, but lately I get about 5 delivery failures a day.

MSE finds nothing, but lately it takes 24 hours to complete a full scan.

I appreciate any assistance you can offer. Thanks!

Hello!

New member with an annoying problem. I got the latest updates from Microsoft last week and after that my internet sound has had problems. At first, it would quickly fade to almost nothing before coming back. It now switches from normal stereo (set at 24 bits, 48000 Hz) to softer mono for a second or two. I've tried changing it to DVD quality, but it didn't help. This is happening on streaming videos and youtube (both on Firefox and Explorer), but not my own files played via media players.

Ideas? Thanks!

A:Sounds constantly switches b/w mono and stereo on Internet videos

Youtube either uses Adobe Flash or HTML5 for their videos (and sound). Sound problems are often because of a corrupt Flash player. Reinstall the Adobe flash player as a first step.

By the way, "CD Quality" Audio is 16 bit 44100Khz. That is what is used with commercial audio CD's and what a "standard" wav audio file is.

Hi Barbaranna please do the following.

Hit start run then type msconfig then hit the services tab then hit put a check mark in hide microsoft services what is listed there, after hiding microsoft services? Also what is listed under the startup tab.
Listproccess
A very small program that simply lists the processes that Task Manager lists, including the full path name so you can see what program they are part of. You can easily copy and paste the list into a text file for before/after comparisons, or to email/forum when asking for computer help. You may be surprised at what is running on your computer! Some processes waste a lot of computer resources and make your computer sluggish.
Download ListProcesses for Windows HERE Save the file to the desktop.

Once downloaded to the desktop
Double click the Listproccess Icon
Click run
When the window opens "select" GetList
Scroll to bottom of the window and click on Copy
Reply to this thread and paste the contents of the list so we can see it.
Please download MiniToolBox HERE When the box opens click save file, save it to the desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following boxes:
Flush DNS
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size
Click Go and post the result.

I just bought a Dell from Costco. Came with Vista. Examples of my problem.

I go to Yahoo and log into my email, click to log out. The blue circle spins around forever, then says NOT RESPONDING, then the screen pops up do i want to try again or just end it, either way, it shuts down. This can happen if I type something into the browser, or go to Google or whenever. The stupid blue circle spins around forever, finally shows up in parenthesis in the browser (not responding) and then the rectangle box that gives me my options.

Why does this keep happening. I am not running other programs or anything. Nothing fancy , just a simple mom trying to have a simple computer where i can email people and check out the smut on TMZ but i am constantly having to watch that stupid circle just spin and time out.

Please help.

Hi-- for the last few weeks I've suddenly developed an issue where when i am on the internet I am constantly 'hanging'. I'll be scrolling down the page and suddenly it egts stuck and I have to wait literally 1-3 minutes and then it works again. Or I might be typing a comment and notice that the words have stopped appearing mid-sentence, but after a minute or two whatever i had typed suddenly pops up. I had been ready to blame my computer or my ISP (DSL), but the ISP sent a tech out who supposedly found nothing wrong, and my computer is functioning fine for all other applications. It's strange because some months ago I started having an issue where the computer would freeze up a lot and could only be fixed by restarting-- got to the point where it was doing that up to or more than ten times a day. Now that is only happening once in a while but I have this new problem.

Mind you- when it was freezing up it would do so suddenly-- there was no 'hanging' or slowness prior- it would just freeze. Now it's not doing that often but is just getting stuck. Sometimes everything works fine for an hour or so, but other times it will get hung literally every couple of minutes or so. Doesn't matter if I'm on Mozilla or Flock, and I believe it was happening on IE also. It's driving me crazy!!!

hello,

mozilla 5.0
I am constantly receiving prompts that firefox and yahoo are not responding.

my computer is very often slow to respond.
I will click on a link or an icon, or the start button...etc.... and the computer is extremely slow to respond. not always though.
sometimes click on X to close an open window......it does not close...won't by the right click method either. usually does with control f4.
on occassin when the window closes.....it does it with the slow fading downward motion, and then closes all open windows.

I try to re-open Firefox, and I get a prompt that says firefox is already open. and then , on another try, I will get the prompt that firefox closed unexpectedly and to start new session, or open previous session.

there has already been a massive search for malware and viruses.......I am clean.

do you have any idea what might be causing these problems?

thanks

A:Firefox and yahoo constantly "not responding"

Hello, 1. From the menu at the top of the Firefox window bar, select File and then select the Exit menu item. 2. Open My Computer or Windows Explorer. 3. Browse to the directory: C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\shared 4. Delete the file npYState.dll. Now that this plugin has been removed, Firefox may stop crashing when using Yahoo. Removing the plugin will not affect your ability to use Yahoo.~Zane

Just as my subject states, my box keeps freezing up and random times, and i have to force shut down my laptop in order to get past the hang up. I would normally, if i were home, diagnose this on my own if i were home, but I am currently in iraq, so it's hard for me to do it from here, I am hoping maybe someone else has had the same issue and maybe has a resolution.

my laptop is an Ibuypower box, has windows 7, 4 gigs of ram, i5 processor, 1gb ATI video card. My laptop seems to freeze most when i use AIM and yahoo, as well as foobar. It normally starts off with AIM freezing, then yahoo does, and eventually foobar quits playing music and windows crashes.

For the last few months almost every few minutes my browsers get stuck and there is the Not Responding message on the top bar. I also was getting many pop-ups that a plug-in was not running. They had chrome in the pop-up so I uninstalled it but I am still getting the same message.
It happens in all 3 browsers (IE, Firefox and Chrome) and even when only one is running.
I even get it when I open "My Computer" file. And now I am getting it in a word document.
I really hope that someone will be able to give me an answer because it is literally driving me insane. I am spending hours unable to get anything done because of this.

hi, I was checking the device manager as I have been having problems with an mp3 player connecting and I saw that there were exclaimations for both nvidia wdm a/v crossbar and nvidia wdm video capture (universal). It doesn't give me the option to update the drivers so I dont really know what to do. Could this be affecting the connectivity of my player?Any help would be appreciated
thanks

A:Nvidia exclaimation marks?

It is possible you have a Driver or IRQ conflict. an "!" does not always mean that you need drivers for it. Doubleclick on them and read what it says in Device Status. If it mentions drivers, try to find the most up-to-ddate ones from teh Nvidia website and install those.

Also, try disconnecting the MP3 player, and reboot, see if the "!"s go away.

Hi i am not new to virus's or fixing issues with computer but this one has stumped me.
i have a custom built pc which i got from my dad and ive been adding to it.
it had avg free already installed so i didnt bother installing any new antivirus.
recently (yesterday) avg kept saying i had a virus on every file in my c drive (i have 3 hdd 2 of which are programs and games and one is boot (c:\))
well every file that was running or had run in the last day in the windows folder mainly. it then went on and did everything automaticallly (as i now found out is a bad way to hav it set up) and deleted %30 of my system files so i had to recover them (thank god to system restore). it still came up with the virus messages so i uninstalled it and got the last copy off my laptop and installed it. then it came up that all these files are infected with "Win32/Virut.NBM virus" which is on every file it comes up with. i dont want to reformat as i have loads of games ill have to reinstall and download (steam). also when i try to open any program (literally any game or program) it says i do not have permission and i tried regedit which came up with the same error. please help me.

Eventually got system to a usable state, although, not fast, and it ran reasonably well for about a week, then it really slowed up again

Problem is, how to verify if my system is truley clean and to establish what damage to system files etc has to be addressed.

Currently, IE6 and other running programs halt, task manager shows them to be not responding, but given time, they resume, another click on the program window starts this not responding cycle again.

I am running windows 7. The browsers (firefox, IE, and chrome) always hang up and the message not responding appears at the top for a minute or two. Other programs also at times don't respond. When closing down the computer, it says that there are programs running (nothing should be running since I close the programs. It provides an empty list, and eventually shuts down after a minute or two.

Hi guys

Just got a new laptop and everything was running fine until recently when I noticed that everytime I right click on the desk top to refresh or click "gadgets" or "screen resolution" windows explorer will freeze up on me and I have to restart it. Also happened when I was trying to right click paste something into a folder.
Now it happens almost all the time when I do the above. What's wrong and what can I do?

Thanks in advance.

Good People,

I continue to have issues using any internet browser. I am currently using Windows 7 64 bit RC. I consistantly have issues with internet explorer not responding or crashing. I am attaching the messages I get when this problem occurs, but it really happens with any browser, I have tried Firefox, Opera and Chrome with the same results. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions. I have tried just about everything that has been suggested, Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just so you know I have done the following:

Run without add ons, check for viruses and spyware using Malbytes and Avast. Reset internet explorer settings to original state, cleared all temp files etc etc. But I still have the same issues, faulting modules seem to mostly be related to .dll files, either MSHTML.dll or NTDLL.dll or OLE32.dll and stackhash errors.

Below are some of the messages I see in the Reliability monitor....

Hi all,

Recently my laptop is giving me issues, it took a long time to do anything at all. Some times it states that window explorer stops responding. I tried going into safe mode and use the sfc /scannow feature but it auto dismisses after 7% verification. I am not sure what's the cause of all this issue but it started since Monday. I tried to do a system restore as well but it didn't work.

Also the funny thing is, the windows antivirus and windows defender all got disabled when I logged in. I hope someone here could assist with my issue before I decided to do a clean reboot. Thank you.

When you say "windows antivirus" got disabled, what exactly are you referring to? Is this an installed antivirus or something else? Malware is known to disable antivirus programs.

You could try downloading, installing, and running full scans with these free products: Malwarebytes, ESET Online Scanner, SuperAntispyware, Comodo Cleaning Essentials, etc.

No one is paid by Bleeping Computer for their assistance to our members.Further, our malware removal staff is comprised of team members with various levels of skill and expertise to deal with thousands of malware variants, some more complex than others. What audio setup are you using? I've had similar issues with my Intel HD 7.1 audio from when it tries to automatically change from one source that is in 2.0 to one that is in Dolby Digital 2.0, 5.1, or 7.1. The only work-around I've found so far is to shut down Winamp before opening a video player, then when done watching a movie, close the video player and reopen Winamp. It seems to have trouble running multiple audio threads in different formats at the same time.

Hi,

I have several programs running on my PC, which I have recently upgraded to Windows 8 Pro (64), from Windows 7.

Everything appears to be running fine, except recently, I have noticed that the some sound affects, on some programs disappear - not all sound affects!

Note that I do not have any Registry cleaners!

Two Examples of this problem, are Photoshop CS6, and Microsoft Money 2005 - Both these programs run perfectly otherwise!

With Money, I have observed that the opening theme music disappears; however other sounds appear OK - I get clicks, when appropriate!

With PS, normally, you get warning dongs, when you do something incorrectly; however, these sounds have disappeared, together with other sounds!

I have discovered how to restore these sound affects.

Namely by reinstalling these programs!

However I have to ensure that they are clean installs!

It is essential to remove all trace of the previous programs; namely, by deleting folders in the Program Files, by deleting folders in the Program Files (x86), and to delete the relevant keys (regedit) in the Registry!

If I just uninstall, without cleaning, the problem persists

I never had these problems with Windows 7

This is not a Show Stopper, but a bit of a Pain.

A:Windows 8 - Sounds disappear on some of my Programs

Some programs and sounds will require a complete (clean) reinstall. Money is a very old version that was designed for Windows XP. Vista/Win 7/Win 8 handle some sound functions differently so if the program works at all you can consider yourself lucky.

To ensure a "clean" uninstall, I use Revo Uninstaller Pro. There is a free version of Revo Uninstaller but that only recognizes 32 bit programs. The Pro (paid) version recognizes 64 bit programs. Revo Uninstaller will first create a restore point, then run the program's uninstaller and then will scan the registry and folders for left over files and allow you the option to delete them. This is a much better and easier way to uninstall.

One other item, when you uninstall a program, restart the PC BEFORE you reinstall. If not the original problem may still be there after the reinstall.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I am seeking for some help.
I've been having this problem for quite a while but didn't really bother to look it up, but now it starting to bug me so here's how it is:

I'm using a HDMI that connect to my TV from my GTX 560Ti and I stream sounds from it, so I'm running desktop at 1360x768 resolution, and when im playing bf3 at 1920x1080 (i know its not my native resolution but i like my HUD further apart for more field of view) and whenever i alt+tab or switch from any windows that currently running on my desktop (from 1360x768 resolution) to bf3 or any game that is running on a different resolution, my sounds got cut off for a moment until it successfully switched to the new resolution. so i was wonder if there are any way prevent that from happening without using native resolution on my games, ask if u need for info!

A:[Help]Sounds cut off when switching between programs in Windows 7

Hello and welcome survivor mate I am no expert but I think that this is a little time lag that connected to you changing resolution.

The only suggestion I can make is that you hook the audio via some other method either that or use DVI and an alternative method Either way it mean two cables eh?

Maybe someone here better than me can think of a way of syncing it better.

here's a crazy one, last night i noticed all night long that i could hear my computer "clicking", it sounds just like when the mouse is manually clicked on an icon or link to open it. it makes the sound about every 15 seconds and has not stopped. nothing seems to be open, and last night it made the sound when all programs were closed and the computer screen saver came on, right now it is clicking away while i am typing to you on a different computer....

i can't wait to hear from you about this one! sounds like a ghost is running my mouse!

I recently became infected with the Conduit search system and some other malware. I have been able to remove most of the malware, but now sounds play out of my headphones when no programs are open. They seem to be radio commericals. The sounds come and go, sometimes sound broken or choppy, and sometimes two or more sounds play over each other. They stop when I disconnect my internet.

I have run some internet searches but cannot find a solution. One site said that Kaspersky trsskiller solved the problem. So far I have run Kaspersky PURE 3.0, HitmanPro, and Malwarebytes. I have removed a lot of malware and trojans, but now the scans are coming back clean and the problem persists.

This thread describes my problem, and seemed to result in a solution:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/455590/sound-keeps-playing-automatically-sounds-like-many-radio-stations-playing-at-once-with-frequent-adverts-cuts-out-frequently-and-then-comes-back-on/

...however, I'm not entirely sure what the person did.

A:Radio sounds playing with no programs open

You can continue with Emergency Kit - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/emsisoft-emergency-kit/
And Superantispyware - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/superantispyware/
Or to ask for a help there, where I am sure your problem will be solved.
If your defense Kaspersky is I am not sure putting it together with Malwarebytes is a good, because a conflict may arise.

I was playing Skyrim earlier today when my computer locked up on me (this happens from time to time, my video card over heats and I've just been too lazy to buy a new one that isn't a piece of junk). I had to hold down the power button to boot it back up and when I got back to my desktop none of my programs would play sound. I heard system sounds just fine and I could test my headphones from the control panel just fine also. I found out that none of the programs I boot are being put into my audio mixer and when trying to boot up Skyrim again it gave me this message "No sound device detected. Skyrim cannot run".

So far I've tried:
Uninstalling and reinstalling my sound drivers

Hello everyone,

i just built a new pc (see specs)

and ALL of my programs either have crashed once or haven't even launched, a quick reboot fixes the problems sometimes, but when some programs work other programs don't.

ex: my firefox will crash, but xfire works, then i reboot, and now firefox works but xfire doesn't.

i even rebooted once to find that ALL of my programs are "not responding" or instantly crashing, but some other useless programs (well, not useless but things i don't really use) such as minesweeper or paint will work.

i was wondering if changing to a 32-bit OS will fix most or all of these problems or would it rather be a hardware issue, maybe my HDD or RAM not finding files or not saving them correctly or something.

any help is greatly appreciated!

A:Programs Crashing Constantly

Sounds like you may have hardware problem. The quickest way to troubleshoot is by using the Event Viewer. By finding the Error(s) that occurs at the same time as the crash, we can better determine the cause(s):

Follow this path:
Control Panel Administrative Tools> Event Viewer> Click on System & Apps, one at a time on the left> look for Errors on the right> right click error> Properties> note description of error, Event# and Source.

There is a "copy" button below the up/down arrows. Click that, then go to any place that allows you to type (ie. notepad, wordpad, this board) and you can paste (use CTRL-V) the entire event details there. It makes for easy reporting of the event.

If you want to paste the Event here, you do not need to include the lines of code that follow the Description- but paste all else. Please do not include Warnings or Information Events.

Hi guys, I think I may have a virus. When I am running a program, sometimes it jumps to 50% usage and then just hangs. Once I end it, another program jumps to 50% and this keeps going on and on. Mostly it hit explorer.exe, firefox.exe and msnmsngr.exe however I have managed to make it cling on to a "dummy" program which I dont use but still it will lag my computer on a whole. I have created the necessary logs and hope that you guys can help me. As you can see there are 2 cfp.exe running now as one of them is my "dummy". The other is my firewall (Comodo). Here is my HijakThis file and I have attached the other 2 files , DDS.txt and Attach.txt however RootRepeal.exe wont run for some reason, it just hangs at the initializing stage. Thanks,JonathanLogfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 5:45:42 PM, on 8/22/2009Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16876)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\COMODO\COMODO Internet Security\cmdagent.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\aawservice.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\Program Files&#... I have tried to reinstall IE8 & IE7 but IE7 doesn't install, and IE8 still has the same problem after I install it again. I ran a few scans before and took care of everything bad. Some other programs will still stop working (like, everyday). Watson Client, and Media TV thingy always stops working the minute I turn on the computer. What's the problem? Almost all my programs crash constantly with no message afterward. I have tried re-formatting my computer and that still has not done anything.
Background Information:
My laptop is three years old and HP Compaq Presario CQ50-110US Notebook PC.
It has all the latest Driver Software downloaded.
The battery falls out constantly -.-
It is well kept.
I use Pencil Led Holders to elevate the laptop so it does not overheat.
I have dusted it out.

I used Everest to Compile to get any information that may help.
I used Event Viewer to select all the application Crashes since I reformatted.

Any help would be appreciated as I have been having this problem for the past year.

Hey guys, first time here, don't want to act like too much of a leech but I'm in need of some help.

I built a new computer about let's say 1-2 months ago and was running fine, but recently I've been experiencing ALOT of BSOD's and ALL my programs crash like firefox and games after a small period of time which makes it really frustrating.

I'm not too sure what to do, but I'm sure there should be something I can do to resolve this issue so I need your help.

My RIG:

CPU: i5 3570K
MOBO: AsRock Z77-Extreme 4

SSD: Sandisk SSD Extreme 120GB
HDD: Seagate SATA3 1TB
RAM: 8GB 1600 G.Skill Ares
GPU: Galaxy GTX 670
PSU: Antec HCG 520

I also run CCleaner occasionally, well, daily actual and I'm having a small hunch that the registry cleaning is actually screwing up my computer.

Alright, this has been occurring since I got my machine back up and running today. I've installed a new power supply--my old one croaked--and now, Firefox and many of the games I play have been constantly crashing; it'll only be a matter of time until this post crashes.

Here's my computer's specs:
3GB System memory (RAM)
OS: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254)
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.2GHz
Gfx: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS
Power supply: ~530 watts--I forgot the specs already, I'll grab the box later, when I have a chance, and I'll edit this then.

Honestly, I don't know what's going on with my machine. The programs that keep crashing--it's only the ones I frequently use, which sort of figures--is as follows:

Firefox (crashes randomly)
Warcraft 3 (crashes when I join a game)
Internet Explorer (crashes instantly)
and a couple other assorted ones. (My antivirus has not crashed once.)

Now, I know that you'd think--with a list that small, that it'd be the software. It's not. I've reinstalled Warcraft 3 and the expansion about five times today, and it's still constantly crashing--I thought it was the CPU usage, but even after shutting down all unnecessary programs, it's still crashing. Firefox crashes every few minutes, as well.

Honestly, I've got no clue what's causing this. If anyone has... Read more

Hi Folks,

I have a few instances where it would be nice to get a sound to happen when a program starts or finishes or some other event happens in windows. While I am a programmer, I'm not a Windows programmer, so I only imagine setting up a sound event is nothing more than a series of registry edits, but I haven't really a clue what needs to be done. Sure seems like there should be a utility out there for something like this.

Call it a sound event wizard. I identify a .exe application that's installed on my computer, then I select what event associated with that application needs a sound (start, end, file access, etc.), provide whatever other necessary details, and then the wizard sets up the sound events in my current sound scheme.

Anyway, does anybody know of a utility like that?

Thanks,

I just recently reformatted a computer and now I'm having quite a few issues. First one is that I can't even open IE(not that big of a deal). Every time I try it crashes. Also when using Firefox, it randomly crashes about every 10 mins or so. Whenever I download something, weather it be software or video/music 9 times out of 10 I can't open/play it because the file is corrupt. I played hell trying to update these drivers again, still not done with that either. I really have no clue on what is causing this pc to act this way. I have 2 computers setup behing a Netgear rp614v4 which in turn is directly connected to the modem.

Both use win xp pro
both run just fine....Until one or the other uses a filesharing app like IceDc++ or Azureus.
When one of these programs run on either computer starts it causes everything else connected to the internet like msn, mIRC or even games like Steam etc to drop its connection temporarily at regular intervals.
99% of the time it requires a reboot to secure the connection even after i shut down azureus.

Im pretty decent with computer hardware but lacking a lot in networking compared to other areas.
So i really have no idea what could be causing this.

Ip is dynamic. The netgear router is setup for manual portforwarding for the app i need to open ports for. And i doubt it could be anything to do with this. I'm at a loss for the time being and any ideas would really help.
At least a pointed finger towards the right direction.

Well long story short, I pulled too much power from my 780ti and fried it (Warrantied thank god) now when I try to stress my cpu again, no matter whether I use Aida64, or OCCT, the temperature readings freeze until I reboot. Bear in mind that when I test, I turn off Coretemp, and when im not testing I use coretemp. Coretemp does not freeze, and all testing applications have been reinstalled with the same result. I dont know whats causing this but it seems software related.

Can someone help?

Ill be running a chkdsk in the meantime.

Edit: chkdsk reports no issues

Hi guys. I'm in desperate need of help. Just about every program and game I try to run on my computer crashes constantly. If it doesn't do it now, it'll do it soon. I have installed all the latest drivers for my hardware and installed the latest Windows Updates (Windows XP Home Edition w/ SP2), but I still suspect this might be a hardware problem. I built my computer myself, so here's the specs:

- BIOSTAR TForce4U-775 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX Intel Motherboard.
- Intel Pentium 4 640 3.2 GHz Processor (w/ Hyper-Threading).
- OCZ Gold Series DDR2 667 1 GB (2 x 512MB) Memory.
- Wester Digital Caviar 250 GB SATA Hard Drive.
- eVGA Geforce 6800XT 256MB 256-bit DDR PCI Express x16 Video Card.

And here's the list of programs that will crash constantly and just out of nowhere:

- Windows Media Player 11
- Firefox (all versions)
- F.E.A.R.
- Half-Life 2
- Counter-Strike

Oddly enough, those are the only programs that crash. Internet Explorer, AIM, DivX Player, Steam, and mIRC all seem to work fine. I suspect my video card, but what would cause the Firefox and Windows Media Player crashes?

I know there could be a hundred possible things wrong, but if anyone has any help to offer, I'd appreciate it very much. I'm willing to try anything.

Hello and Thanks in advance,

I did not search within this site because the situation i'm in does not make it practical to do so.

I have a relatively new laptop, HP Pavilion dv7, and the past week or so I get a recurring 'NOT RESPONDING' message on any program I have open or try and use. It spins for about 20 to 30 sec's, sometimes longer and then recovers.

On a normal day I have my Outlook open with 1 or 2 windows open for messaging, Word, Excel x 2 or 3 spr. sheets, Msngr, and 1 or 2 web pages on IE. I am also on our network for file access & storage at either of the 2 offices I work out of. Out of all these programs, only Outlook will occasionally actually stop working, shut down then restart.

On any given program mentioned above I get that dreaded 'NOT RESP.' and so far, it's occurred 3x while writing this message.

I've cut down the startup items and that appeared to have helped for a bit, but then returned to the normal pauses. I've also updated everything I could possibly think of and the only update I haven't installed is SP-1 for the 32-bit system since I am on a 64-bit system.

Our IT guy doesn't seem to be able to figure it out. Any help is very much appreciated.

Sounds like a corruption or dll issue.

Hello. I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem I've been having
with certain programs that connect to the network. Today,
(while I was filing my FAFSA student aid form, no less)
Internet Explorer froze and I had to kill it in task manager.
While I use Firefox exclusively, the FAFSA website recomended
using IE to insure compatability. At around the same time, my
AIM service went down. Whenever I tried to sign in, it would
get to the 'connecting' stage and freeze. Once again, it had
to be killed using task manager. I then tried to go online
and use the AIM-Express utility... Even it decided not to
work! By this time, I decided it was time to run Symantec
Corporate, Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Microsoft Anti-Spyware. The
first three updated and ran just fine. However, when I tried
to update the Microsoft utility, it froze. Task manager once
again. It scanned just fine, but it simply refused to
download the new definitions. None of the scans turned up
anything more than a few tracking cookies. I decided to take
a look in the task manager. There wasn't an obscene number of
applications running and system resources hovered between 2%
and 5%. Everything seems fine in there. Now, whenever I try
to open IE, it simply won't open. However, it appears in the
processes list of task manager. I use Sygate Personal
Firewall in addition to the Windows ... Read more

I went to boot my computer up this morning, it started normally and everything except when I went to open MSN (It starts with windows) from the taskbar, it stopped responding and wouldn't even open. I went to open Firefox and the internet said it was connected but wasn't working. I followed this up by trying to open Dolby Axon and got the same thing, the program .exe wouldn't even open at first. I opened the task manager to see what was going on, i had all of the processes for these programs open and running but the actual windows weren't being displayed on my desktop. After a while, getting frustrated I tried to open multiple things, only to have Windows Explorer itself shutdown, the task manager stopped working aswell. I restarted, went into safemode (Everything worked fine, no errors whatsoever.) I scanned for viruses using Malwarebytes, it came up with one, Something called Xvid Malware. I deleted the virus, booted back up thinking that it would fix the problem. If anything, it only cured how fast the issues seemed to come on this time. (Everything that happened the first time, happened again.) I decided to restore my computer to three days ago. I booted back up and the problem was seemingly all gone. I can open just about anything with a couple of exceptions. League of Legends wasn't opening, so I decided to uninstall it and download it again, throughout this process the downloader itself has stopped responding about 20 times. Malwarebytes would not o... hi everyone, thanks in advance for any suggestions offered. My computer has been acting up for a few days. Sometimes it only boots in safe mode, and when it does boot normally, it takes longer than usual. I cannot run any internet programs without getting error messages as soon as they attempt to boot. A box pops up saying "this program is not responding." This is happening with all internet applications (AOL, IE6, AIM, etc), so I cannot get online. I ran a virus scan, which found nothing. I also ran ewido, which found adware entitled 'fizzlebar,' which I deleted. I tried to run AdAware but it freezes about 2 minutes into running the application. I tried also Spybot, but that made my computer shut down after only a few minutes. I also get a 'not responding' error when trying to run Windows Media, and sometimes when I run other programs such as photo programs. I am posting my HJT log in hopes that someone can help me figure out the problem.~MR------------------------------------------------------Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 2:52:30 AM, on 11/5/2006Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\E... Hello MamaRamona and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I see no signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean. It does appear that the operating system is out of date and this could be related to the issues you have described. I would suggest starting by updating the OS to SP2 and then applying any critical updates available to rule that out as the cause of any problems. For assistance with this post a question in the XP forum here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/56/windows-xp-home-and-professional/ and they can walk you through the steps required.Cheers.OT

when you get a non responding program... i do have a few which turn out like this..

especially on starting up a program... it freezes up.. goes into not responding...

on xp.. ending the process usually worked pretty quick, 99% of the time the program would end instantly...

but with W7... even from a fresh install... it freezez up applications.. ending the process doesnt work with ending the process...

applications which are affected most of all..

traktor scratch dj studio for traktor scratch duo..
safari web browser for win7... latest version
sony acid pro 7.. for win7
flstudio 9... for win7
as well as a few others.. but these are the main ones..

usually they will run first time... sometimes they may take... a..very....long....time to run tho..

sometimes up to a minute or two...

other times they boot pretty fast..

but with all of them..

when they are "not responding" they freeze... unable to use the end process in task manager... they just linger... the aplication window goes white out... and the close program... option comes up..

close program does not close the program..
task manager still shows the application.exe running...

then when it finally does terminate...

the program takes eons to open again... "go away to make a cuppa tea" come back and it might be working kinda time period..

Yesterday, I started having issues with a lot of my programs getting the (Not Responding) message in the title bar. It's somewhat normal when I'm doing too much to have it happen on Firefox, but I am always able to close the browser and re-open it. Now when I try to close, the program sticks on the screen and I have to restart completely because it will not close at all.

I've tried MalwareBytes and McAfee, but nothing was found. I even went back a week using the system recovery. That didn't help. I don't know what is going on, but I've never had an issue like this.

I have attached the DDS files.

Thanks in advance.

hey all, my computer is about 7 months old and since I got it whenever I opened a program it sometimes would not respond (message would appear if I tried to close it) it seems to happen more often now. It wouldn't be a specific program that I noticed and not all the time either. But I did notice it did it for updating avg anti-virsus and adaware scans all the time. I recently added mozilla firefox browser and it did it to it as well but it seems to fix it self after 15-20 seconds. about three months ago my fan started to slow down and eventually stopped working so I replaced it. Now my power supply fan makes a loud noise when i turn on my computer but eventually stopes after about a minute or two. Some people I talked to say this could be the problem but they re not sure. Also notice it takes longer sometimes to load programs. I downloaded hijack this so here is my scan:

Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install ewido.
During the installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
Launch ewido
It will prompt you to update click the OK button and it will go to the main screen
On the left side of the main screen click update
Click on Start and let it update.
DO NOT run a scan yet. You will do that later in safe mode.

Restart your computer into safe mode now. Perform the following steps in safe mode:
Run Ewido:
Click on scanner
Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
Save the report to your C: Drive
This will take some time to run!

(Hope this is the correct forum to post this in. If not, I apologize.)

The past month or two I have been having programs such as Firefox 3.0.11, Internet Explorer 7 & 8, and when I launch World of Warcraft. All three programs lock up. World of Warcraft eventually responds after a minute or two, but Firefox and IE always ends up having to close. No other programs or games really do this. I've noticed too that Firefox and IE usually lock up on me when I'm visiting Myspace. Is there any solutions to this problem?

Thank you!

Try downloading the latest Flash player. http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

There were some glitches I think they sorted out.

I would also get all the Windows updates if your computer doesn’t do it automatically. Include the Windows Media Player. I think Flash is the most likely culprit though. I’ve read about a lot of problems with computers locking with Flash content.

Hi,

Can anyone advise please? I am finding often that when I am running programs that even whilst they are running I get a response at the top of the program especially when I use Pro Tools say that it is not responding. I have adjusted my hard drives so that they don't go to sleep after a set period so why is it that I am constantly receiving this error?

Thanks Steve

Not sure what Pro Tools is but if PT is not running, do u still have the same prob? be good to see some system specs too - an upgrade of an OS or a clean/brand new machine ?
