c5.zedo infection on Dell E1505 WinXP sp3

Q: c5.zedo infection on Dell E1505 WinXP sp3

Help please! My Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop, running WinXP MediaCenter with SP3, in the last few days has begun popping up the c5.zedo ad box, and sometimes too it will reject connecting with my hotmail account. I notice too that when I am able to connect with hotmail, it will often sit there for 10, 20 seconds loading ads (it would seem) before it will be responsive to me. Is this also keylogging me? I'm afraid to go anywhere needing a login and password until I get this cleaned off. Can't figure where this infection came from. I followed your advice in the prep guide. Here's the DDS file

My husband's Dell laptop has been having crash problems intermittently for the past few months, usually while using the latest Firefox (not surprising because web browsing is mostly what he uses the laptop for), but he believes it stems back to a Windows update -- not sure which one exactly, but whichever one gave him the new IE with tabs. The computer has been twitchy ever since then.

Last week things progressed to Windows not starting up at all and consistently bringing up a BSoD upon every restart - Normal, Safe Mode, and Last Known Good Configuration.

In the BSoD, there is not a specific file or driver listed as the problem. Here is the STOP error code we consistently see:

*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x86F59E7A, 0xF79907B8, 0xF79904B4)
(I can transcribe the entire blue screen text if that is necessary)

I tried to use the Dell support site to troubleshoot the problem -- I followed the "guided path" tech support, trying each recommended step, none of which did anything. I stopped when I got to the suggestion to open the laptop and unplug all the third-party devices plugged into the motherboard. Knowing me, I'd get electrocuted. And we didn't alter the hardware once we got it from the factory anyway.

I ran Diagnostics and the memory passed all the tests. On the Dell "Windows XP Blue Screen Troubleshooting" page, it suggests updating the BIOS or rolling back any updates. I have no idea how to do any of those things when Windows won't ... Read more

Okay, from the first day I bought a Dell e1505 laptop a little over a year ago, when I search google maps for an address, these weird 1-2" black boxes obscure part of the maps. Video drivers didn't fix the issue, so I waited. Back in March, I began contacting Dell tech support again.

Five months, over 50 documented hours on the phone, one product return, a dozen repair CD's, a new hard drive, and too many hd reformats/windows installs later, the problem continues and Dell finally gave up on me, telling me that they only sell and service hardware, I must have a software issues, and software support is only a courtesy.

Ironically, I also have a problem with the Dell website where the world map appears all screwed up.

Before I take them to small claims court, has anyone ever heard of such a problem?

Hi,I was probably infected on the night of Dec 13/14th. Noticed that my desktop background had changed to a green background with black text box saying that my computer has been infected. Since I had to go on vacation I just pulled the internet cord out to prevent additional problemware from getting installed on my computer or sending my information over to other computers on the net.I have come back from vacation now and am now beginning the work required to fix my pc. First things that I have noticed - I don't have access to Task manager, rightclicking in the Tray shows me a grayed out Task Manager option Regedit doesn't seem to work. It displays a message "Registry Editing has been disabled by your administrator". But I'm running in an administrator account. I can't boot to Safe Mode. When I tried, it displayed a BSOD. I can boot normally and displays my normal WinXP screen with a listing of all the users. However when logging in with password, prior to showing my desktop it shows a dialog box saying that I've been infected by "Worm.Win32.Netsky" and assigns it a '5' rating (from a 0-5 scale). Closing the dialog (using the x) leads me to my desktop whose background is now different. There is a program called "Internet Security 2010" that automatically starts up and is warning me of multiple infections. And is also popping up messages about detecting spyware in SpyBot.Bank32.dll and also detecting attacks from various internet connected compute... Read more

Hi guys, i've been having problems with pop-ups on my pc for months now, at first I had a zedo popup problem and after following removal instructions I think that's gone but has been replaced with at least 3 other types including 'sky poker' and 'breast enlargement'?! Everytime I open a browser or click on the page up loads a pop-up which seriously slows everything down. I'm using firefox but all the pop-ups open in IE. I'm using 2 anti-spyware programs:- avg 7.5 antispyware and spybot search and destroy but they don't find a single problem. I'm also using firefox browser and make sure my pc is updated often. This is the first problem i've not been able to fix myself so i'm really hoping someone's kind enough to look through my logs.Gah!!! Anyone install W7 (Ultimate or similar) on a Dell E1505 w/1GB RAM?

I can read MS minimum suggested hardware all day long, but nothing would beat hearing what someone running the configuration would have to say.

The machine is presently running WXP Pro just fine, and because it ain't broke, I am dumb enough to try to fix it...

A:Dell E1505 1GB RAM

Here's a thread on this forum where a guy is trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate and he has only 256 MB of RAM. The installation package is demanding a minimum of 512. You should be OK with 1 GB.

Help i cant install windows 7

Do you think I should be get extended warr? I think 4 yrs is an extra $174 and 4 yrs accidental is $103. It comes with a 1 yr warr and no accidental.

They are having a 25% off sale today and tomorrow.

A:looking at dell E1505

I would reccommend the warrenties. It is worth is, as an example, one of my clients has a Dell latitude and the motherboard went out on it 1 day after their 3 year warrenty. It is like it was waiting for it, but luckly they had purchased 3 more years 2 days prior. so they got a free MOBO which would have cost them a couple hundred dollars (esitmated 400 after installation and configuration).

Ok, I have a dell laptop 1 year old E1505 model.

it came with 512 megs of ram and ran super slow with vista so i decided to buy 2gigs of kingston pc25300 667mhz DDR ram.

I just got the ram today and put it in the PC, it registers and shows i have 2038 megs of ram now. The problem is it shows it running at 533mhz????

I paid for 667mhz why is it not running at this speed? I also then ran cpu-z test to show the ram speed and it said pc25300 and 333mhz? WTF??

Yesterday I went to turn on my E1505 and pressing the power button did nothing. I played around with the AC adapter cord where it enters the laptop because I know it may be starting to separate. Then I checked the battery and it showed full charge. I unplugged the adapter and tried powering up on battery power and still nothing. I checked Dell Forum and one posting discussed a bad battery and running on just AC. I tried removing the battery and powering up with just AC and still nothing happened. But when I snapped the battery back into place I immediately noticed an LED come on and at that point I had high hopes. However, what happened was the power, numlock, capslock, and scroll lock lights came on and then after about 3 seconds shut off and then immediately came back on. It would continue to cycle like this until I removed the battery. As soon as I put the battery back in the same thing happens. I do not even have to press the power button; it just tries to start up by itself. I noticed that while the lights were on there was no sound of the fan starting and the hard drive would whir and then click just before the lights went out. I tried reseating and then completely removing the RAM and this did nothing, the whole cycle of the lights coming on for 3 seconds, shutting off and then coming back on continued. I then removed the hard drive because I was afraid the persistent cycling may damage the drive. Still the lights would cycle but this time there was no sound of anythin... Read more

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 that I've upgraded with a T5600 Core 2 Duo CPU, a pair of PC5300 2gig SODIMMs and a 500 gig hard drive.

I downloaded the "media refresh" X17-59465.iso updated x64 ISO of Windows 7 and made a bootable USB stick to install it.

Partway through installing it popped an error about not having a driver. Restarted, it boots off the hard drive, gets to the Starting Services screen then pops another box saying it can't install Windows.

I know other people have installed x64 Win 7 on this exact model with a Core 2 Duo CPU upgrade so what's the trick to making it work? I also know it will use around 3.5gig of RAM.

Would going back to the 1.5gig of PC4200 that was in it get Win7 to complete its install?

A:x64 on a Dell Inspiron E1505.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. If an EFI BIOS you'll need to decide if you want UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS. If UEFI follow these special steps for Install, otherwise enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module to proceed with normal install:

Set DVD drive first to boot, HD second, set SATA controller to AHCI, Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into Windows 7 installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here. I would use a fresh ISO written with tool in Step 2 as yours is in question.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10, or enter System Recovery Options to open a Command Box, type:

SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

After install you can adjust partition size or Create new partitions for data, etc. in Disk Mgmt. You are creating the partition here for the purpose of wiping the HD and marking Active which overcomes certain install failu... Read more

When I press the power button on the computer the two green light "A" and " arrow" flash for 2 seconds and stops but the computer does not power up.
how can I solve this?

A:Dell Inspiron E1505

Here is some info from a Dell Moderator in Dell's Inspiron forum:

If your system will not power on try some or all of the following.

>Remove the ac adapter and the battery for two minutes then reconnect the ac adapter and try powering the system up.

>Remove the ac adapter, the battery, and the harddrive then put the harddrive back in and try it on ac power only.

>Try starting the system without the harddrive in the system.

>Remove hardware components one at a time and see if the system will start after that.

If the system will not power up with a certain hardware component install then that component may be faulty.

If the system will not power on no matter what, then the processor or motherboard may be faulty.

In laptops, generally there is not much to upgrade except maybe to add more ram. But in your case you are pretty much maxed out. 98% of laptops are NOT designed to play games except for high end systems.

My laptop powers on, but will not boot up. The power lights blink for forty-four times, then it powers off. The battery is fully charged, and I am completely stumped at what to do. Thanks.

A:dell e1505 won't boot up

Hi and welcome to TSF
Possible AC adapter trouble

Check the power light

When the power light is lit or blinking, the computer has power. If the power light is blinking, the computer is in standby mode—press the power button to exit standby mode. If the light is off, press the power button to turn on the computer.

Charge the battery

The battery charge may be depleted.
Reinstall the battery.
Use the AC adapter to connect the computer to an electrical outlet.
Turn on the computer.

Check the battery status light

If the battery status light flashes orange or is a steady orange the battery charge is low or depleted. Connect the computer to an electrical outlet.
If the battery status light flashes green and orange, the battery is too hot to charge. Shut down the computer, disconnect the computer from the electrical outlet, and then let the battery and computer cool to room temperature.
If the battery status light rapidly flashes orange, the battery may be defective. Contact Dell. See Contacting Dell.

Check the battery temperature

If the battery temperature is below 0?C (32?F), the computer will not start up.

Test the electrical outlet

Ensure that the electrical outlet is working by testing it with another device, such as a lamp.

Check the AC adapter

Check the AC adapter cable connections. If the AC adapter has a light, ensure that the light is on.

Connect the computer directly to an electrical outlet

b.) The finger pad is non-responsive frequently. Plugging in my wireless fine...during those episodes.
c.) Slowness has overcome the machine.

Hey, im looking yet again to upgrade my laptop. This time I want to know the best possible video card for gaming compatible with my laptop. Halo 2 wont run All posts appreciated!

A:video cards for dell e1505

You can't change the video in the E1505/6400, at least not without a complete mainboard swap. From what I've researched on this model, the base version used Intel 9xx series integrated video while more upmarket versions had some ATi video built in. Whatever the best video was available in this series is still underpowered for current games.

This is one of those laptop models where the manufacturer offered a wide range of options and short of having it in hand with a functional install of Windows with all the correct drivers, the only way to know what it shipped with is to use the service code at Dell.

But whatever it already has for video is what you're stuck with. There are some rather expensive adapters to connect a desktop PCI Express video card to the ExpressCard slot but you only get x1 speed and the video doesn't go to the laptop's screen.

Hi... I have not posted here in a long time, so please excuse my inadequacies...
I am having intermittent BSOD issues with my Dell laptop. The BSOD almost always points to a file called Fbf33.sys, which is nowhere on hy HD, but can be located in my registry during a search. It is in the "ATI Technologies" portion of the registry. Further, in my Startup (under MSCONFIG), I found an entry called "di", which also points to the ATI Technologies directory. However, I cannot find "di.exe" on my system anywhere. I have unchecked this entry in start-up, but the computer is still running slow.
My system is running VERY slow and it is always seeming to have the connection open to the Internet. Packets are always being sent and received.

Can someone please advise me on why my post is getting no replies? I believe I have a trojan in my machine. I received an e-mail today from my ISP telling me the following:

This is to notify you we have received complaints of unsolicited emails originating from your AT&T Internet account. Unless you send commercial email it is likely this email is being sent without your knowledge by malicious software (virus, worm, trojan, etc). These emails can be originating from any computer utilizing your connection including computers connected wirelessly.

Perhaps there is something else wrong with my machine, but it seems like a software issue... If you feel it is something else, or I should post in another forum, please let me know. I really need some help.

Hey guys, my friend just reformatted his hardrive on his Dell Inspiron E1505 running Windows XP. We are both students in college right now and are having trouble getting the wireless network running on his computer. I know that the driver for the wireless internet card has to be re-installed, but I only have my Dell Resource CD for my E1705; he doesn't have the on that came with his. I tried installing a few of the internet card drivers on his computer from my CD, but none of them are picking up a wireless network. Are the drivers on his CD and my CD different? If they aren't, which driver am I supposed to be installing, because none of them seem to be working? If they are different, is there any place that I can find the driver necessary to run on his computer?
Thanks a lot guys, appreciate it.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 that I purchased in 2006. It only came with a 70Gig harddrive. It was enough at the time I purchased my laptop, but with increasing large programs, my 70 Gig harddrive is running at 90%. I went to Dell to download my operating system and programs that came with the Laptop-- they informed me they no longer support my Laptop. I was very disappointed with Dell, since I have purchased 6 PC and one laptop in the past 15 years. I stayed with them because I always felt I could depend on Dell. It will be the last time I will do business with them since they are no better than any of the other vendors. The operating system was a XP Media verison and there is no way I can purchase a copy of it.

I have a family member's Dell e1505 that is over 2 yrs old (purchased 8/06) and out of warranty. No problems with it up until now. They went to turn it on yesterday and couldn't get anything.

Source of power doesn't matter (battery, wall, or both). I hit the power button, power light comes on for 3-4 seconds and then goes off. Nothing else happens. There are not sounds whatsoever coming from the laptop.

I removed the hard drive, and memory just to see if it would change anything and it didn't. I only was able to run across one thread online where someone had the exact same problem. Wasn't much help though as they didn't offer any advice on finding the problem.

I'm suspecting the worse...dead mobo. Any ideas? Anyway to test this? I'm fully capable of working on the laptop, but don't really know what to do. I can't get to a boot menu or anything so I'm lost.

Any help would be appreciated

PS. Haven't had a lot of luck with computers lately it seems like. First my power supply in my desktop went out a couple weeks ago. Last week, my hard drive in MY e1505 finally went out (after months of clicking), and now this problem. This one is by far the worst...I'm hoping it's not the mobo.

I just had a chance to buy the basic edition of Windows 7 on the cheap, so I took advantage even though I'm not sure if it'll work on my Inspiron e1505, which is currently running XP. I checked the minimum requirements on the box, and figured I meet them all so I picked it up. I ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, and that seemed to confirm that I can run it. I have a 1.8 GHz processor and 1 GB of ram. The only issue is that my computer is not listed as a Windows 7 compatible system on Dell's website:

So who do I believe? Dell's website or the Windows 7 upgrade advisor?

Hello friends,

This is my first post in TECHSPOT, hope all are good.

My exact problem is already present in this thread

Wish the mods had kept it open for further discussion.

Here is my version of the problem:
My laptop is little more than 3 years old (Dell Inspiron e1505)
I went to turn it on, and it would not start up.
Instead, it would power on and the screen would say black.
The fan would come on the power light would come on. Also,
the number lock and scroll lock lights would blink, and the caps lock
light was solid. I could hear the hard drive thinking about starting up.
This would last about 30 seconds, and then it would power off.
I read around the internet and found a solution, which was to
"reseat the memory". I took the bottom access panel off the memory
and took the chips out of the A and B slots. I then put them back in
securely and made sure they were in.

Still nothing happened, then it strike me that either if one of the memory cards had failed, but I was wrong, I took both cards out and inserted one card in slot A and left other open and started it started , means one RAM was good, then did the same with other card, inserted it in Slot A and started it too worked, Now my problem is I feel there might be something wrong with slot B.

Usually this problem I encounter whenever I change the position of my laptop, for eg, If I do some cleaning on my laptop then this blinkin... Read more

I have a Dell Inspiron e1505 notebook (laptop). it now won't power on!

I checked if my power adapter has a problem, but my power adapter works fine when connected to my friend's laptop.

When I switch on the power, the LED lamp on adapter is glowing green. As soon as I insert the adapter pin into my laptop, the LED turns off! And no LED on laptop would ever blink.

Can somebody please guide me? Thank you!

Lots of folks are having trouble with the power socket for the adapter cable breaking loose from the board. Does your jack wiggle at all or otherwise feel loose?

Also, that Dell model has a lot of trouble with the inverter to the screen burning out. Everything will light up except the screen. A new inverter costs $5 to $9, but takes some work to install.

My Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop was infected with "something" I say some thing because im not sure how to classify it. This thing had been hidding on my computer for several months it had enabled remote access to my computer, it was copying all my instant messages, it had uploaded all my song, videos (media), personal documents up to an online file storage location for someone else to view. When i would boot up my computer it would put me in a seperate shell, so who ever owned the "virus" could take control of my desktop with out me knowing. It replaced my AVG antivirus program with access to a colorfull java picture-show of AVG updating and scanning, but it was just an interactive image doing nothing. It/ or someone at this point went into my administrative tools section and replaced the links on the shortcuts to make them point away from windows system directory to files the placed on my hard drive, so i was unable to put my settings back to normal from there. it/they then altered my local security policy so that these settings could then only be changed, deleted remotely. All local access was restricted to view. The only discovery i made out of any of this that might help someone else before this thing gets to far, is that this thing seems to start off hidding itself as Adobe... Read more

I'd like to reinstall Windows (XP pro) and blow away the partition, but do I then need to reinstall all my drivers and utilities? (I have both backup discs). How will I know which drivers and utilities to reinstall? I got all the fawncy gimmiks for this computer (nice sound, nice screen etc) so I want to make sure I have the right drivers - at the same time, am appalled at how SLOW it is out of the box, and how much they reduce the usable drive space with the partition (I back up on an external harddrive, do not need Norton ghost or any of that nonsense)

thanks very much for your help!

Hey Everyone. I have a Dell Inspiron e1505. It can't run many games on it, but I have a few that work, like Rome Total War, Civilization III, Trackmania, Medieval Total War, and Jedi Outcast 2. I have like 8 MB of graphics memory, with two GB of RAM, a core duo processor with 1.66 GHz, and plenty of HD space. Any suggestions? Yes, I do have steam.

A:No battery status, Dell E1505

Welcome to TSF....

You did not mention if you purchased a new battery that was not an OEM for the laptop. Some manufacturers like Dell have special circuits in the battery that make it put a battery level up and the replacement battery does not have that circuitry.

Hi all, hope someone out there can help me with this problem.

Last year my girlfriend gave me her old Dell inspiron e1505 laptop to fix. I had my buddy test it and we figured the motherboard was the problem. After a few months (and wrong one, sent back original for repair....) I got the correct motherboard from eBay...refurbished from Dell, put it together and it's still not firing up. I get the battery light on and when I hit the power button the other three lights light for a second and then they go out and nothing happens. I don't hear any signs of life either.

Of course, needless to say I could buy another laptop but thats not the point. I need to figure out what's wrong with this one.....its about not letting it win.

Oh, and also my girlfriend came up behind me to console me (an attempt to keep me from crying) and I shot a static arc from somewhere on the computer (after it already wasn't booting up)....doesn't look like there was any damage and it's still behaving the same way with the three lights. I don't think this caused any damage.

Anyone have any ideas?

Need to replace original 80 Gb IDE HDD in Dell Inspiron E1505. Based on Dell's comment that it was compatible I purchased as WD 320 SATA HDD (WD3200BEKT) from NewEgg since Dell was out of stock. Tried cloning the HD using Acronis True Image Home 2009 and a USB External Enclosure kit. Now the 320 Gb HD only shows 80Gb available and that won't boot when installed. Without any documentation from WD with the HD, no warning from Acronis and no word from Dell that compatibility might be an issue. I guess I'm just supposed to intuitively know stuff. Now that I've vented a bit, can someone help:

a) Tell me how to restore the WD HD to its original state and start over.
b) What migration software should be used or, if it is supposed to be done with manual partitioning, how do accomplish this?
c) What, if anything, I need to do to the E1505 to get it to accept the full capacity of this HD

Ok, it's not quite that bad, but it's at a point where I do feel the security of my system and thusly my personal info has been jeopardized and I need your help and will gladly pony-up with a donation to acknowledge and say thanks for services rendered.

Somehow a couple Thursday evenings ago (8/9/07), I ended up with an infection that has resulted in numerous pop-ups(usually "Powered by Zedo" and ?OuterInfo?) and also an inability to restore my system to a point prior to the infection.

The primary issue I'm having seems to be very similar to this one here:

Summary of issues:
-Zedo pop-ups
-Trojan infection will be temporarily vanquished but returns after reboot
-System Restore won't execute for any date prior to date of infection
-Several .tmp files that can?t be deleted and continually surface when running Registry Mechanic

I've thrown the following at it:
Ad-Aware se1.06
Ad-Aware 2007
AVG 7.5
Spyware Doctor by PC Tools
Registry Mechanic by PC Tools
Privacy Guardian by PC Tools
Spybot S&D
ScanSpyware v3.8

hi my e1505 wont turn on when i press the power button, no sound...nothing. Preceding this was an accident where orange juice was spilled on the bed where the e1505 was sitting but i think it only crept in where the cpu radiator vents are, so i opened it up thoroughly cleaned everything on the top and bottom of the mobo with rubbing alc and put it all back together and pushed power and no go. although its sounds like a mobo issue i have a sneaking suspicion its the tiny little board that holds the actual power button because in the past(before the orange juice) i would have this problem where it wouldn't do anything and that was eventually solved by pushing really really hard down on the power button, so i feel like it could be that the little power board's connections are weak or the power board itself is fried.

any thoughts?

Hey guys,

Hope somebody can help me out with this. I have had malware/spyware problems before and been able to treat them. Today, I had the traditional "your system is infected" popups, attempting to get me to click thru and buy something, even with AVG and Ad-Aware running in the background, but that's another gripe for another day.

Anyway, I shut down to reboot in safe mode to attempt to fix - and now I cannot reboot. The "DELL" screen comes up, and then the screen goes black. Its getting power, the hard drive is spinning, but it will not boot - in regular mode or safe mode.

I've read some things about flashing LED codes online, by LED's aren't flashing - only the power light and number lock light are lit. It doesn't try to boot and then shut down, it stops booting and stays on. I have reseated the memory, tried to boot with just the power chord in with no battery and I have nothing else plugged in.
I know its old (had it since 2006) and part of me thinks it may just be its time, but i also don't want to assume that since there was the virus popup right before hand. Would love to try to squeeze another year or so out of it!

Thanks in advance!

Do you have, or have access to a retail copy of a XP installation CD? This will need to be the same version as the one install on your computer. If not, try the following.Download NTBR_CD.exe and create a bootable CD. * Save the file to your Desktop and double-click it. This will create a folder named NTBR_CD. * Open the folder and locate BurnItCD. Launch it by double-clicking it. * When BurnCDCC opens, click Start - the CD tray will open. * Insert blank CD and click OK. * The tray will close, burn the image then eject the disk.Run chkdsk. * Boot the affected computer with the new CD. (You may need to change the boot order in the BIOS so that the CD-ROM is the first device in the boot order.) * Once presented with the boot screen please hit <ENTER> to boot from CD. * After a warning screen there is a keyboard language options screen - press <ENTER> to leave it at EN-US. You should now be at the Tool options screen. * Type 5 and press <ENTER> to go to a command prompt. At the command prompt type the following bolded command then press <ENTER> tools\ntfs4dos\chkdsk You will be prompted (in German) to press Enter. * Press <ENTER> to start the check disk utility. Check Disk will check all attached drives and attempt to correct any errors. Please make a note of any errors found or corrections made. * When it completes type "menu" and press <ENTER> to return to the tools menu. * Type 6 and press <ENTER> ... Read more

I have a Dell E1505 laptop that I suspect has a dead motherboard. I don't want to drop ~$200 to purchase a new one without some more confirmation.

When the system is powered up the three locks LED's light up for about 5 seconds along with the power LED then everything just turns off. The system fan does not turn on and the hard drive does not spin. I have gone through checking the power supply and battery. I get the same problem whether the unit is plugged in or is running off of the battery. When the unit is plugged in the battery charging LED does light up and does not go off. I have reseated the HD and RAM. I have tried other RAM chips in the unit and still the same response. I was having problems finding any information error codes pertaining to this series of LED's. The conclusion I have come to is a bad motherboard. In the past I have seen this problem related to the system doing nothing when turned on.

Can anyone shed some more light on this issue or at least confirm that they have had similar issues and it was related to a motherboard problem?

Hi i am soon going to purchase a dell inspiron e1505 from my friend. However i am still trying to figure out what kind of video card the laptop has! I have checked several different sources, including the BIOS of the computer itself, vista device manager, and the ati radeon program installed on the laptop. I have gotten extremely conflicting results! the BIOS says 128mb, the ati radeon program says 256mb and the vista device manager says something weird like 841mb. I am going to ignore the device manager because it makes no sense. What i have determined is that it seems that its 128mb but theres some sort of hypermemory which seems to make it 256mb, could someone please help me to understand how hypermemory works, and what i really want to know is, will i be able to install a game that requires 256mb, or is the extra 128mb the hypermemory adds simply overclocking it. I anxiously awaiting your answers.

My Insprion E1505 laptop worked flawlessly right out of the box - the Dell (Broadcom) 1390 mini card connected immediately after entering password and has not had a single problem until tonight - it's almost as dead as a doornail. I have a WEstel Versalink router from Bell South and Ewido security sutie and NOD32 antivirus - all else on my computer is completely normal. I have sonic wall and use it to remote into my work computer, but haven't had any problems. No viruses detected on Ewido or NOD32.

I downloaded most current driver from dell site and installed to no avail. Upon startup tonight, it didn't even "see" my wireless network initially. I click View Avail networks and after two refresh tries, it did finally see it. I rebooted several times with the same result always. When I did finally get lucky and it did see my Westel router and connect, the speed on the very first initial connection the very first time i open an internet explorer box is perfectly normal. That is the only way i'm able to post this. Whenever you open another box in addition the very first IExplorere box opened or whenever you shut the inital box and open a new one, the speed slowly fades and dies at about 24mbps. This is nauseatingly familiar with all the troubles we had with the Intel 2200 card a year ago - we completely gave up on it and NEVEr got it to work once for man the 5-10 clicks before the connection just died.

A:Dell E1505 - 1390 Mini Card HELP!

Do you know that the router works fine with another wireless PC?
If you don't know and can't find another PC to test it, and keep it on all the time, unplug it for an hour or so.
If your signal is encrypted, try w/o encryption to see if that makes any difference.
Make sure you know your important settings, reset the router to factory default settings, reconfigure as needed.

Try your laptop with a friend's router or a free public hotspot.

You are using either the adapter's utility or Windows' WZC to manage the connection. Make sure the other one is not running, as they conflict and result in various problems. Try using the other one instead.

Download NetStumbler and see if you can glean anything from it--does it say your signal is strong and remains constant; any noise; any other networks; etc.?

Hello. I have been having problems with my laptop keyboard (Dell Inspiron E1505).
Periodically the keys b,n, /, space bar, and 3 of 4 arrow keys stop working. Initially I thought the problem must be an obstruction or due to the keyboard, so I replaced the keyboard with a new one. The same problems occur, with the same keys. I have removed the keyboard a few times to check the connection of the keyboard to the laptop, but it has not improved.
From there, I looked around for other possibilities. I scanned my computer for any malware, viruses, etc with Ad-Aware, McAfee, Norton, but have not found anything. I tried to update the driver for the keyboard, but it is up to date. Is there anything else from software, windows, etc that could be causing the problem or is it due to hardware?
Thank you

Luckily, keyboards are cheap (er)... We have seen a number of problems with 1505 and related keyboards. Replacements are available on eBay for $14 to $26 with free shipping. They do go bad on nearly all laptops, but the 1505 has had a higher record of failure than most Dell laptops.

Hi, I am hoping you guys(or gals)can offer some help.
My laptop is not even 2 years old (Dell Inspiron e1505)
I went to turn it on, and it would not start up.
Instead, it would power on and the screen would say black.
The fan would come on the power light would come on. Also,
the number lock and scroll lock lights would blink, and the caps lock
light was solid. I could hear the hard drive thinking about starting up.
This would last about 30 seconds, and then it would power off.
I read around the internet and found a solution, which was to
"reseat the memory". I took the bottom access panel off the memory
and took the chips out of the A and B slots. I then put them back in
securely and made sure they were in. IT SEEMED to work, when i turned
it on, the lights were no longer blinking. It started to power up (but the screen was still black) and it powers on for about 7 seconds and then just dies.
Please help if you can, I cannot afford a new computer and hope there is a simple solution. Thank you so much - Nick

1) HellRell. Stop spamming please. Posting more than once with the SAME thing in the post content is unacceptable... especially 3 times... in a row...

2) You said it worked for a moment after you reseated the RAM. This may suggest that there is a RAM failure. Try replacing your RAM. That's the simplest possible solution from what you've said here, that may work.

3) It sounds like you might have hit the typical DELL defect in well... just about everything... After about 2 years, the computer stops working and does something like that... I believe this is a dell conspiracy to get you to buy another one, however that might just be my opinion/superstition.

A:is dell inspiron e1505 compatible with windows 7?

Hi there,
You'd be surprised at the amount of systems that can run Windows 7 now.
Dell's support website does not have any drivers listed, but you can run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to get a good idea.
If you're not using any MS specific applications (Office etc.) then you could always move to Ubuntu which is great for web browsing and basic computer tasks. It also uses very little resource when compared to Windows.

just a few hours ago, a small pot of water spilled directly to my old-ish laptop, and it shut down instantly. I unscrewed the bottom and propped up a fan next to the exposed inside, and now the computer turns on again!
However, the screen does not. Whenever I turn it back off, it does so instantly. The same exactly thing happened to this poor laptop 3 years ago, when a quarter-cup of soda entered through the keyboard. Last summer, it worked again!
But, not as much liquid entered the laptop, so I`m sure the damage isn`t as severe. Plus, the computer still turns on, so I`m not completely hopeless.

I don`t want to spend a bunch of money sending it to GeekSquad or Dell, or wait a long time so it can dry off or whatever. Can anybody tell me what to do to get the monitor working again?

I have had a Dell E1505 for about 2 years. It has a persistent problem that I can't seem to solve. Often, but not always, it freezes when any kind of disc is inserted into the CD/DVD drive. There is no blue screen but the mouse cursor and everything comes to a complete stop. If there happens to be sound playing it will freeze on whatever tone is playing. The only way out is a hard re-boot. It is often, but not always, necessary to re-boot 3 or 4 times to get it going again. After that it may work for 3 or more disc insertions before doing it all over again. It doesn't usually freeze up unless a disc is inserted. (Well, no more than any Windows machine does anyway)

I've tried new firmware etc... with no change.

Thanks for your help!

I installed Windows 8 on an old Core Duo Dell e1505 with an ATI x1300 video. The video is old enough that I had to install the Vista version of the video card driver using Vista compatibility mode, it works just fine. Benchmark is actually slightly better than in Windows XP.

If this works, I may upgrade the machine to Windows 8 when it finally comes out.

I am searching for way to power up a Dell Inspiron E1505 without opening the lid.
I set the Dell to wake up by USB device in Bios. Then I connected it to a USB
wireless keyboard and mouse. When I tried these devices the computer did not
come on. Why is my Dell not coming on? Any suggestions on how to make the
Dell come on without opening the lid?

I'm a new member and a computer dinosaur who cut his teeth on the now ancient
DEC PDP11 and VAX series computers. That was back when 16k core required three boards to function (about the same room as the complete inside chassis of todays tower). Oh yeh, we actually repaired these monsters to componet level. You know, transistors, diodes, capacitors, inductors,.....etc.

technology overran me and I now need help whith my wifes DELL Inspiron 1505.

Tried to load drivers for a new HP printer, scanner, fax and had trouble getting it to take. Tried again and still no good. It seemed to go forever. After awhile I rebooted and got a stop0x00000024) message indicated a bunch of hex addresses. Tried to boot up stand alone but the same stop message appeared again.

Tried to boot (BIOS)and check drive bootup sequence, but it required me to put in a password or admin. Is there a default password for thyis? I do not recall ever setting one? Any suggestions??

I have had my dell inspiron e1505 for about 4 years now. I have gone through two batteries, but actually currently have the original battery back in my computer because it lasted longer than the replacement.
However, my computer will no longer charge the battery....

My friend has the exact same computer so I have done a few tests...
For help in communication here is some annotation:

My computer:
computer A
Power cord A
Battery A

computer B
Power cord B
Battery B

I put my battery A in her computer B...and her computer B charged my battery A with her power cord B, but not with my power cord A.

I tried to use her power cord B on my computer A, but my battery A still would not charge...

I put her battery B, into my computer A, but it would not charge with EITHER power cord A or B....

So...I think I have come to a conclusion that something is broke inside my computer....
Is there something on the motherboard that chatges that battery?
Or, could it possibly be something easier to fix...
I am a student studying abroad in Rome right now, and computer parts aren't really readily available....

My dell e1505 laptop, which I've had for a little over 2.5 years, won't start up. I turn it on, and it loads past the screen that says "PBR 2... Done" and then the screen with a gray loading bar at the bottom appears. The bar fills up about 1/4 of the way, then the laptop freezes.
It doesn't budge after that until I turn it off, and when I turn it back on, it does the same thing. I don't want to have to reformat, I don't even know if reformatting would help, but I'm lost at this point.
Any help would be nice. Thanks.

My parents have a e1505 which is currently running Vista. I have been debating on upgrading it to W7, but was unsure if it would handle it well. I have keys for XP, Vista, and W7 32bit. I plan on doing a clean install.
It has a T2250 1.73GHz processor with 2gb ram.

All my parents will be doing with it is internet use and organizing pictures and things like that. It's about time for a clean install of any OS on it.

I am totally stumped by this one. My laptop makes this click sound at about 70% battery power (no AC) and shuts down (actually goes completely black). There is no warning and it does not go into hibernation mode. I bought an after market battery from the same vendor which I bought my previous battery. I have a battery monitor software (Battery Mon) that shows the battery is performing well. I have had my Dell since 2006 and this is my 3rd battery. I still have the original Dell battery which can hold a charge for about 1/2 hour. The battery mon program shows it can not hold a charge.

I am running Windows XP pro.

On AC power, laptop works great with no issues. Any ideas or suggestions? I have to travel and I can't have my laptop die out on me. Thanks

I recently installed my WIndows XP home edition with service pack 2 to my laptop and some of the drivers for my dell inspiron e1505 are missing. I tried going to the dell website to install the drivers and the application file could not be read (EXE files). The only reason i reformatted my computer because i started receiving messages like 'application could not be read by win32'. Unable to verify windows xp w/o internet access. The missing drivers are(under other drivers): ethernet controller, pci driver, base system device X3, network controller, SM Bus controller, Video Controller, Video controller (vga compatible). I already tried connecting my ethernet cord directly to the cable modem and it still doesn't work. Usually people that visit just have to connect their internet cord to access the internet. I tried connecting wirelessly and i have a feeling that driver is missing on my dell. I tried setup a connection and doesn't work the option that automatically detects internet. Before i formatted the computer, the computer had no problems connecting wireless and to the internet. Just all the these drivers are gone.

If only i cannot connect to the internet i should be able to go to dell sites and install software. When i visit the dell drivers download list, it tries to install to my computer. I don't want to install it to my PC (which other computer). Just using my PC to download stuff on usb and transfer to laptop, but none of the files could be... Read more

A:Reformatted Dell Inspiron e1505 and cannot connect to internet

Yeah it sounds exactly like you're drivers are missing. You can double check by right clicking my computer > manage > device manager, you will probably see a bunch of question marks/exclamation points.

If you go to the Dell site, you should be able to download a single driver for the ethernet controller. Try this link:
Go to Network and look for "broadcom driver for 10/100 integrated controller". Don't click add to list, just click the download link. Save it to your desktop, then transfer it via usb and install it on the Dell. Reboot and then plug in your ethernet cable, hopefully you can get online. If that works you can install all Windows updates, then go back to the link and add all your drivers to the list and download easier with dell driver download manager.

Hi all,

I am new to the forums here and have tried everything I can think of - hopefully you guys can help!

I have just completed a clean re-installed XP Media on a Dell Inspiron E1505 using the operating system restoration disk provided by Dell. Dell did not supply driver disks so I have downloaded them from their website using the service tag for this machine. I have gotten all hardware to work except for the Dell 1390 mini-card and an SM Bus Controller.

When I to install the wireless driver (R151520) I get the following message:

"This application has failed to start because Wlanapi.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

I have researched on the web and found many instances of others with the same issue - but no clear resolution of the problem. I have tried to follow the advice of those threads only to be confronted with other issues with the Broadcom installation program (bcmwltry.exe) - with error messages that do not go away.

I even moved back to the original restore point after installing XP and re-installed all of the drivers in the order recommended by the Dell website - no change.

I am at my wits end and refuse to call Dell and pay them to help me sort this out since it is their driver that is causing the issue to begin with. Please tell me someone can help!!

Hi all,
I have one problem with my one year old dell inspiron E1505 laptop. Monitor is loose, loose in the sense it is not falling down but it is shaking. I was too nervous and concerned about it since its like only one year old.

please help me friends.

thanks in advance.

A:my dell insipiron E1505 laptop monitor is little loose.

Iím at Dell Headquarters in Austin, Texas and I just came across this post. There are two places that the hinge can come loose. If the screws that fasten the LCD assembly to the chassis are loose, they can be tightened with a screwdriver. If the wobbling is coming from something loose inside the bezel, that would have to be disassembled and parts may need to be replaced. To get to the screws, you would need to remove the hinge cover and I included a link to the instructions for tat procedure below.

If the system is still under warranty, we could dispatch out the whole LCD kit, which would definitely fix it without having to pull the LCD apart. The only issue with that is those kits are expensive, so if it's not covered, you're better off finding out which (cheaper) part it is and getting only that one.

If you have any questions feel free to post back. I'll be checking this thread for the next few days.

Hi guys,

I have a laptop I'm working on that will not turn on/ charge. I've tried a different adapter to no avail. I've also taken a battery from an equally rated Dell Inspiron (different model) laptop and it does not turn on with that either.

I've replaced the charging component off a motherboard before but this one is different as it is not simply a connector that goes from the charging outlet and plugs into the motherboard somewhere. It is just a piece that is soldered on and I can't tell what route it's taking.

I've tested the charger using a multimeter and it outputs ~ 19.5v so it should be fine. Any ideas?

EDIT: After doing some research online, I found that the center pin of the charger 'port' (on motherboard) sometimes goes in. Has anyone replaced one of these? If so, do you just unsolder it and solder in the new one? Someone mentioned putting some solder in the center and that fixes it?

A:Solved: Dell Inspiron E1505 Won't Charge / Turn on

Does anything at all happen when you try to power it up, any lights flashing or sounds ?

If it doesn't work with a charged up battery there is a hardware problem inside the laptop.
If it was just the power socket it should still work from battery power.

I would try charging the problem laptop's battery in the other laptop then try it in the problem laptop.

Hi, as the title states I have a Dell E1505 and I'm trying to install for my Dell E1505 which has an ATi Mobility which has a ATi Mobility X1400 video card in it. Yeah, I know sounds stupid, but I was able to get Windows 8.1 GPU driver installed and working properly. I can't get that driver to work for W10 preview though. Maybe it's because W10 is still in beta, or haven't gotten around to it yet or perhaps it's just not supported and it's never going to work. I just don't know, but I have a feeling it's going to work at some point and I believe it's workable now. I think it's a just a matter of tinkering with it to make it work.

It anyone has any clues or ideas, please let me know if you have anything. BTW, I'm using Windows 10 x64 Build 9926. I have 2gigs of RAM Core 2 Duo ATi Mobility. Thanks in advance!

My Laptop has not had a working lcd screen for about 3 weeks now but I have still been using it through my television display. When I press the Function and F8 keys at the same time my screen will flicker on for a second then go back off. I am going to take it apart and look for what the problem could be. I have a newer laptop and an external with everything backed up. Where should I be looking for the problem? could It be a simple loose wire or what could it be?

If you take a flashlight and shine it on the screen, can you see a faint image. The LCD inverter may be bad. Be careful taking things apart. You can really mess things up if you don't have laptop repair experience

Hi and thanks for the opportunity to post!

Have a Dell E1505 with a cracked LCD WSXGA+ screen. It still worked but it was getting worse, so I ordered a new screen with the inverter (same res).

While waiting for the new one to arrive, I hooked up the laptop to my HDTV set to do a little work plugged in thru the external connector (what the heck, I thought...the computer part still worked fine!).

Upon receiving the screen today, I plugged everything in, fired it up and no power to the screen. I even bought a new flat cable...neither that one nor the old one makes a difference.

The laptop is still putting out on the HDTV fine. When I hit function+F8 to toggle the display (which I have used fine for years), the message that "no external monitor is available" or something to that effect. The laptop thinks that the external HDTV is the primary default monitor.

When I go into my ATI Graphics X1400 card utility, I attempt to enable the secondary monitor. It flickers, then reverts back to the HDTV monitor as my "default". I noticed in the display settings that my HDTV monitor is checked as the default monitor and because it is shaded - I can't uncheck it.

I have no idea what to do next minus taking it into a laptop repair shop and paying LOTS of money not to mention being without it for 4-5 days!!!

Question is: Why does it think that the HDTV external monitor is the external monitor? How can I change it????

I appreciate any suggestions!!!

Let me explain my intention clearly.
My idea is to club the 5GB free space from D: to C: drive and then split the C: drive into two partitions. first partition for VISTA n second one for XP (Say around 15GB)
Now is it possible to do in the way i think??
if so, will the recovery drive work later??
and what about the Media Direct??

1 - Nice laptop - I've always wanted to get Dell

2 - If I were you, I would reinstall everything because starting from scratch is the best for me. Do you have a Vista CD? The way I would have done it would be this: I'll get myself DVD-RWs - from 2x (the cheapest ones) and back up all the files that I don't want to lose. Then reinstall XP and when doing the partitions consider the future installation of Vista. Installing Vista once you have XP going is easy. Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 with Windows XP Media Center Edition. This computer was having problems running in the normal mode and would only run in Safe Mode. It had the PAV virus on it. Could not get that uninstalled because none of my removal tools could pull it off and the uninstall file was missing so I couldn't uninstall it. I have done some searching and found that I could restore my computer by pressing ctrl & F11 at the same time. I did that and I was given two options. One Restore and the other Boot. Well I have tried both. The Restore fails. So now I am looking for some guidance on my options now. Please anyone with experience or help respond to me. I will try whatever will work. I was recently given a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop with windows XP Media Center Edition as a gift. I am very grateful for the gift as a single mother of two in college. The only problem is, that this computer has been a problem since the first time I turned it on. It constantly had to suddenly shut windows down and kept telling me to run CHKDSK/F and restart. It never would work till today. After the computer restarted now every time I try to turn it on it first goes to a boot menu asking to start in safe mode, a few others and start windows normally, and then no matter what I choose the entire screen goes blue and says "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer." and some more about disabling antivirus and back up utilities and to run CHKDSK/F but the screen never changes and I can't do anything. I am hoping this can be fixed, even though the computer has been a pain, I have to have it for school and will be devastated without it. If someone out there can help me fix my computer I will be so grateful.
