Q: Critical error! Failed to save all the components for the file \\system32\....

Hello, im in desperate need of help here! So far everything ive tried has not worked. Upon browsing today i stumbled across a website that was deemed a possible "Attack site" by Firefox, shortly after i closed the page the following error message popped up repeatedly;Windows - delayed write failedFailed to save all the components for the file \\system32\000024b5. The file is corrupted or unreadable. This error may be caused by a PC hardware problem. This message pops up literally about 30-40 times every time i restart or attempt to close them, each error has different numbers/letters following \\system32\On top of this my desktop background has gone black, system check keeps popping up and cannot be closed only paused and most importantly almost everything within my username ie music/files/folders/desktop icons has disappeared!! which is a huge problem because a lot of it isnt backed up and theres work related things i cant afford to lose on there! My hard drive is telling me the same amount of space is being used as before so im hoping they havent ACTUALLY been deleted but when i try to view the main user folder it just says its empty?!...also programs/control panel/shortcuts to my documents have disappeared from the start menu. Two random messages saying "hardrive clusters are partially damaged. Segment load failure" and "RAM memory reliability is extremely low..." occasionally pop up from the task bar as well, when i click on the icon it brings up system check however.Trying to bring up task manager doesnt work, it opens for a second then disappears. So far ive tried doing a virus scan with AVG (i managed to right click on my user folder and scan it that way) and it did find multiple trojans which it quarantined but upon restarting nothing changed, ive tried booting in safemode and doing a virus scan from there but i couldnt get it to work (the error messages didnt pop up in safe mode though) and i tried doing a scan with malwarebytes in safemode but it was running ridiculously slow, after waiting for about an hour for it with no detected infections i gave up and closed it, probably should of been more patient but im at my wits end here. Im not at a COMPLETE loss since i can still access the internet, "my computer" and a few programs but im in desperate need of help here guys since i use my computer for work related things and really cant afford to lose the data on my hard drive which is why a reformat would really be the LAST resort...id have to try physically taking it to a PC technician before that! Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Hello.

I'm not sure what nasty I have. In normal mode, I get three critical error messages like below with different file numbers.

---------------
Critical Error!
Windows was unable to save all the components for the file \System32\496A8300. The file is corrupted or unreadable. The error may be caused by a PC hardware problem.
-------------

I have a black screen, can run nothing, cannot access files, cannot connect to the internet.

In safe mode, I can get the files to display and can access a CD and external hard drive, but still cannot access the internet.

I used a laptop to transfer DeFogger, DDS, and GMER. I ran Defogger, obtained DDS logs, but twice GMER caused a stop screen error: RQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and dumped the memory - had to reboot.

Previously, I had run rkill, TDSS, and MBAM. Once, the TDSS log indicated it had stopped C:\WINDOWS\system32\grpcon.exe - I believe it was the third time I ran it. Otherwise I get zero files terminated. I cannot run MBAM. I get run-time error '53' mbamnet. I tried using randmbam.exe, but was still unsuccessful after 10 attempts.

I get locked up in safe mode and have to turn off the computer and restart the whole process. This morning, I missed the safe mode tap and when starting up in normal, Spybot popped up and stated it had terminated a file called win32.zbot.

Thank you for any help you can give me. I'm stumped on this one. I've been working with it for two days now and can&#... Read more

Hi There! My housemate's laptop has a virus and they asked me to help fix it. By the looks of it they have the "Data Recovery Virus" on their laptop. *******NO COMBO FIX LOG IS ATTACHED***********First, thank you for what you people do here. I suddenly began receiving the error "Windows - Delayed Write Failed. (Failed to save all the components for the file \System32\0000390c. The file is corrupted or unreadable. This error may be caused by a PC hardware problem)In addition, my desktop went black and lost my desktop icons. A box popped up saying I needed to purchase some time of computer fix. Researching the problem, I came across a forum that suggested running ComboFix from your site, which I did. After running it, I found the warning not to run it unless specifically instructed to. In any event, I did run it and currently my desktop icons are back, however my desktop background is still black and I have a new icon on my desktop that is a red circle with a white X on it. Please let me know what else I should do, if anything. I have not deleted ComboFix.exe from my computer or performed any other tasks. And again, thank you for what you do. Warmest regards

Having an issue with my computer.. I boot it up, and it loads, gets to my desktop (kind of) and then about 20 or so error messages open that say "Failed to save all the components for the file \\system32\\000076c6 The file is corrupted or unreadable this error may be caused by a pc hardware problem"I have no icons on my desktop now and nothing in my start menu. When you click start its all empty etc.. I ran Malwarebytes (this program usually never fails me) It found 12 infections I believe.. I removed them, rebooted, and there was really not much of a change.. I then searched the net and found a thread here on this forum that seemed like basically the same problem I was having.. The thread I am referring to is here - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic423919.html gringo_pr was assisting the member/poster there and gave some instructions including downloading and installing "ComboFix".. I downloaded it and installed it, since im running XP on the system it asked me to also let it install "Recovery Console" so I did and it all installed no problem.. So now I go to run it. It opens up the blue window and says its gonna run and would take 10 minutes or more and has the blinking cursor.. It just sits there on that screen and with the blinking cursor... I tried it a few times now, and just let it sit and run.. The last attempt I had it up for over an hour and nothing happened?? So I dont know if I am doing i... Read more

A:failed to save components for the file\\system 32

For what its worth, this is now fixed. Followed the instructions on http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-system-restore and got most of the way there. Apparently the rootkit was still on there though and everything came back. I started over today, but Microsoft Security Essentials had a definitions update today, detected the problem and removed it. After using unhide, everything is back to good!

Hello there,

I had just recently gotten bombarded with error message boxes saying, "Failed to save all the components for the file \\system32\\000046ca. The file is corrupted or unreadable. This error may be caused by a PC hardware problem."

Yesterday, I had been browsing the Internet in multiple tabs: Youtube, and doing a Google search. All of a sudden my Internet browser closed, and when I had attempted to start it up again I was being harassed by a "Googleupdate.exe" program, which I didn't install (the manufacturer was not listed as Google, but instead 'unknown'). The window kept popping up, and I had forcibly restarted because I was unable to further use the computer. When Windows had started up again, I logged in and that's when the error messages began to appear. The desktop had turned black; all of my icons, folders and programs have been hidden. I have virtually no access to *anything* on my computer.

I tried using rkill + MBAM to get rid of it but then when MalwareBytes would prompt me to restart to complete removal, I would do so and when the computer would start up again the problem would still be there. Right now I am using the same computer in Safe mode with Networking, as that is the only way I will be able to install anything onto my computer without it spontaneously disappearing.

On a side note: I had run GMER, but it had shown absolutely no results and I have no ark.txt log.

Please help?

One more thing: System restore is not working for me; I can't go back to an earlier date.

MBAM is also having mixed results when scanning. Sometimes it will find nothing, sometimes it will detect 2 problems yet those problems can't be deleted as the OP states.

Can someone please help me on this problem?

I have this message on this laptop once windows has loaded.

'Failed to save setting. An error occurred loading a configuration file: unable to open file'C:\users\.....etc...'

Apparently whilst web browsing something occured and on reboot this message appears and the profile doesn't load properly user documents and software not there etc..

Within the start menu the list of program folders are there but the folders are empty. Looking through the c drive and finding my way to the programs the stuff is there.

I created a new admin user to see what that does. The folders are still empty.

This is a windows 7 HP laptop. It also doesn't have a cd disc drive or a window disk apparently.

Many thanks in advance.

A:Failed to save setting. An error occurred loading a configuration file

"This is a windows 7 HP laptop. It also doesn't have a cd disc drive or a window disk apparently."

If it has no CD drive it is most likely a "netbook" & not a laptop.
Try "rolling back" the system to an earlier date using System Restore:
Click Start > Run...........
Type rstrui in the run box, then click 'OK'

A:Failed to save settings. Error occurred loading a configuration file. Help!

Hi, you could try a system restore. If this fails or is not available try this. Desktop items are stored in a cache, this can become corrupted causing what you see. To fix right click on the taskbar and select Task manager. When Task Manager opens under the Applications tab click on "new Task" type:- explorer.exe press ok. Your desktop should repopulate. At this time reboot your computer. If all is well then the problem is fixed if not:-

Repeat the task manager (as above) and new explorer.exe then follow this:-

Go to Start all programs accessories and right click on command prompt select ?run as administrator?

At the prompt type:- taskkill /im explorer.exe /f press enter
(Your desktop will go blank)

Now type each line and press enter after each line.
Note the spaces.

Hello,

I recently had the unfortunate luck of coming in contact with a virus.
I have read some other threads of users that experienced a similar virus to this but mine seems a bit more complicated. I am using Windows 7 Pack 1 on my laptop. While on the internet suddenly all of my windows closed for every application open and a couple dozen popups show saying "Failed to save all the components for the file \\System32\\<various numbers> This file is corrupted or unreadable. This error may be caused by a PC hardware problem." Another popup comes up saying I need to scan my computer and gives me two options: to scan or to cancel and reboot. I reboot my computer and all of a sudden all of my desktop icons are gone and the background is black. When I click the start menu, all it has are program files which is empty and administrative tools which is also empty.

I have run a dds and it is below. I also ran a full scan using McAfee. It returned 5 corrupted files that it quarantined:
KIWBUNqkT7buFh.exe.tmp
2c5b4613-3d419fcc
638148df-49874c13
30a1b96e-1d0f88f5
1d2f977-5d43794d

It also found and removed two trojan/viruses:
artemis!073197ABAB69 and Exploit-CVE2010-0840.a

After removing the virus it seems to have stopped creating the dozens of boxes every 5 minutes or so, and I just noticed that my desktop background has my previous backgrounds from pictures that are stored on the computer... hmmm.

If anyone is able to help me recover my files and pictures, etc... Read more

As you can see by the title of this thread - I have a serious issue. I have done some scans recommended by various websites but it seems that this is the place to get the ultimate help.

I am not an overly technical person (although having this virus is getting me a wee bit moreso), so I appreciate your patience with me.

As things currently stand, I have been told I have a rootkit virus ....

I'll await a response for assistance - Thanks!

Hi all,

I have read some other threads of users that experienced a similar virus to this but mine seems a bit more complicated. I am using Windows XP on my laptop. I was searching old jeeps today in google and came upon a site I have never been to before. The loading page for this site took a while and windows essentials detects a dangerous file (I remove file called Exploit:Win32/Pdfjsc.YE and also Exploit:/Win32/Pifde). The next thing I know all of my firefox tabs/windows disappear and and a couple dozen popups show saying "Failed to save all the components for the file \\System32\\<various numbers> This file is corrupted or unreadable. This error may be caused by a PC hardware problem." Another popup comes up saying I need to scan my computer and gives me two options: to scan or to cancel and reboot. I did not click anything on these popups since they seemed fishy. I reboot my computer and all of a sudden all of my desktop icons are gone and the background is black. When I click the start menu, all it has are program files which is empty and administrative tools which is also empty.

I have seen other threads try to defeat this virus or a similar virus, but in all of the "cures" you have to download files, or access my computer, or use start menu run and to my knowledge I have no way of getting to any of these things. None of them are visible on my laptop. I downloaded rkill and MBAM onto a flash drive on another computer and tried to transfe... Read more

Please help me with this issue. My son was running with an antivirus program not up to date. His lap top started to have problems at first he had the blue screen come up saying it was dumping virtual memory.

I tried to install webroot and update his anti-virus but no luck. next i went to safe mode with no results. Now when we start computer the start up repair comes on and runs we get the following message:

boot critical file c:/windows/system32/drivers/sshrmd.sys

My son has all his pictures on this computer {i know silly not to back up}

Could anyone tell me how to fix this problem?

Been getting this message on failed start up repair since yesterday. System restore runs and says its completed successfully but then it just boots up doing the system repair again. I can't even get into the computer via safe mode (to see if there are any files on there that I really need)

Is there anyway to get into the computer to get my files that I might need off or fix this problem?

Someone told me that I'd need the Windows DVD version of my version of Windows to fix this and a repair install doing? I have no idea what that means and the only DVD I have is a recovery one I made via the laptop a month or so ago, which someone told me if I use could wipe all my data and I really don't want that to happen.

Thank you for reading.

A:boot critical file c\windows\system32\drivers\ksedd.sys

Try performing a repair installation.  This will require the installation disc, if you do not have one you can download a ISO image and burn it to a disc to create one in the instruction as Window Vista Forums.

After getting my laptop (esystem) back from a charlatan that wanted to charge me 80 quid for getting rid of my bios password, i found the password and found that windows xp had been installed on it! the os was vista, i tried to reinstall vista but to no avail due to a message saying : windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing or corrupt staus 0xc00000e9 file: windows\system32\drivers\acpi.sys
ican't get past this
any help would be appriciated, thanks.

A:Critical system driver is missing or corrupt staus 0xc00000e9 file: windows\system32\

hm ... I think that is referring to your HDD drivers. If you don't have a drivers disk already, then:

1.) Enter your BIOS
2.) Write down the make and model of your HDD
3.) Download the drivers for your HDD from it's manufacturer's website.
4.) Burn the driver to a disk (a jump drive might work, I can't remember)
5.) Your Windows installation menu should have a "load drivers" option some where.

EDIT: Nice catch, Archean! My tired brain didn't pick-up on that time-saving possibility.

I found a thread started by another user entitled: Failed to save System32 Popups Virus CANNOT access anything EVERYTHING is HIDDEN which is extremely similar to my situation with my laptop, but the thread didn't seem to have been resolved.

I am using Windows Vista on my laptop. I was just checking my email and deleting some email messages when everything suddenly closed out and many popups appeared saying: "Failed to save all the components for the file \\System32\\[various numbers]. The file is corrupted or unreadable. This error may be caused by a PC hardware problem." Then another popup "System Check" appeared saying that I need to scan my computer. All of my desktop icons are gone and the background is black.

Some other threads that I've looked through say that you have to access stuff on the start menu, like my computer or my documents. My laptop will let me click on the start menu, but there is nothing on it except for the Program Files.

I used my camera to take some pictures of the screen but I couldn't attach it to this thread. I really, really need my laptop to start working again, and I would appreciate any kind of help!

Thanks in advance for your help. It appears I have randomly picked up a virus of some sort wherein whenever I am connected to the internet, my computer gives the "Windows Has Recovered From a Critical Error and Will Restart in One Minute. Please Save your Work Now." message, and my computer restarts as the message states. I have run adaware and malwarebytes' antimalware with mixed results, and downloaded a windows malware removal tool, but none have completely eliminated the problem. I can turn the internet off via a switch on my netbook (it is a HP Mini 110-1100 with Windows 7 Starter), and when I have that turned off before I log in, the computer works as normal, but of course the internet is a much-needed tool. For a few days now, whenever I've clicked to go to a different webpage in IE11, most of the IE screen has gone black until it gets to the page I want.
Then this morning, when I powered up I got the above message.

I searched here and found many threads, most of which had common advice to run sfc /scannow. I ran this and now have the CBS log on notepad. It shows several programs which couldn't be repaired.
I haven't got MSPaint and it look too long to snip. It's 21 pages long on Word and I'm not sure if that's the best way to send it to you. I'll try - and watch what happens.

In case it's relevant, I still haven't been able to install the latest Microsoft updates - I've tried every day but just can't get through.

Edit: Some of the threads were in Games, others in programs and some in Drivers. If I've put this in the wrong section, would some kind person please move it for me please.
Edit 2: again, in case it's relevant, I just remembered that when I opened IE11, the Norton task bar was showing although it was ticked at the top. So I restarted IE11

This is quite an unusual problem only because it does not occur very often. The only way I think, and stress Think, this problem can happen is the Use DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange) program is enabled for the particular file type you are opening.
What you need to do is define which file format is giving you grief, .jpeg, .bmp, .gif ect. and then go to start\settings\control panel\folder options\file types after laundry list of file types appear scroll to the one that you are having a problem with and highlight it and click advanced, once to advanced menu highlight the open entry in the window and select edit. Once to edit menu you should see an option for "use DDE" remove the check mark from that entry and click OK, OK again, Click Apply and then OK again.
Hope that solves you problem since I am out of ideas.

Keep us posted to your progress.

I have a laptop that I am working on when I go into the Add/Remove programs I then go into windows compoonents and pick the ones I want to add. It then prompts me to insert the Windows XP 2 service pack CD. saying unable to copy files

The funny thing is I have the windows XP install files right on C\windows\I386.

This was bought with Windows XP SP2 Preloaded.

I also have tried another Windows XP SP2 CD with no success. As well I tried an original XP CD for grins with no help there either.

I have tried this as local admin/domain admin/user with admin rights, so I know its not a profile thing. I have tried multiple types of media and HDD and CD installs so I know its not location of the files.

Also this happened before it was joined to the domain so I know its not any domain specific setup I.E GPO's or anything of that nature.

Any other thoughts on why this is giving me this problem.

The file it won't copy changes depending on what I am trying to install from the windows components... but some of them are SNMPMIB.DL_ EVNTAGNT.DL_ among others.

I am having this same trouble, I used the start>>find to locate these files, they are there, but they have a weird looking icon, like maybe their file associations are lost, if anyone sees this, and has a clue, please help. My PC has a separate drive with recovery stuff on it, but the drive files on it must be compressed or coded so they cant be searched for individually, it just says "recovery" or ND-tree or soemthing like that, so that wont help, nor do I wish to do a restore, as the last time I did that, it overwrote a ton of stuff in My Documents and I lost stuff (and that was a restore, not a format), anyway, thanks in advance if anyone can solve this.

Hi,

I have a problem with a computer running Windows 7 Pro 64bit. A couple of seconds after windows has booted the process "TrustedInstaller.exe" is started and accessing the file "c:/Windows/system32/config/COMPONENTES" continously. While the task manager shows no cpu usage of said process the resource monitor does show disk activity (screenshot attached). The disk activity comes along with a regular "klack" noise of the harddisk (every 2-3 seconds). This behaviour goes on and on with only short breaks of disk activity and the "klack" noise. The system does work but responds pretty laggy.
I noticed the issue yesterday after I inserted an additional harddisk into the pc. I had to remove all harddrives for space reasons and put them back in (1 system drive, 4 additional drives). I have disconnected all additional drives from the power supply for now but the problem remains. It is possible that the system installed updates while shutting down before I removed all the drives. Maybe something got corrupted during the first boot up with the additional drive?

Any help or ideas are appreciated, thanks in advance.

Jan

A:TrustedInstaller.exe -> system32/config/COMPONENTS

One possibility is that Windows sometimes uses the first empty partition to store update "temporary" installation files. Perhaps it did so, and looked for them after the reboot, only to find the partition letter switched to the new drive. You might try installing the drives as they were, or at least searching them to look for folders with GUID labels at the partition root that have the date of this problem. Or simply do a System Restore that predates the problem.

When i boot up my computer it doesnt reach the user login screen before it loads of startup repair. It looks for a fix but it doesnt find one. In the diagnosis the only error it shows is 'Boot critical file C:\Windows\system32\drivers\vmbus.sys is corrupt'. I have booted kaspersky repair disk and run a full scan which found no viruses or malware etc. From the startup repair window i have tried a system restore which had the same problem when attempting to boot. I can only access the system recovery options screen.

I am running windows 7 32bit, and i dont have a windows 7 disk but do have the windows 7 32bit iso file that i used to install windows 7.

I would be grateful for any help to resolve this issue.

About a year ago I installed a cyber sitter called "iProtectyou" on my son's computer. I decided to uninstall it for him recently because it didn't work, and it only seemed to give him a hassle when he tried to use the internet or play games. When I tried to reinstall it, it would not take the password I used (I could of forgotten it, but I had it written down).

After hours of trying to uninstall it, I went to the internet and Googled how to get rid of cyber sitter's with a forgotten password. Luckily there were several people with the same problem. I downloaded the applications they gave out on the site, and eventually got rid of it. They also had me go to the "Registry Editor" (run: regedit) and screw around in there. The program still shows up in "Programs and Features" but theirs no publisher now, and I still cannot install it. Except now, instead of asking for a password, it just says that their was an error with database.

Now when ever we open up anything, we are swarmed with windows telling us "Crictical Error Occured While Opening Database."

Any help would be great.

Day before yesterday I installed the W10 "cumulative update for x64 systems" on my Surface Pro 3. YesterdayI did a cold restart. Since then the email app constantly crashes, it comes up and then just freezes until it eventually closes itself (or gets closed). The event viewer contains two events for each such attermpt.

First comes:
SettingSyncHost (4916) An attempt to create the file "C:\WINDOWS\system32\edbtmp.log" failed with system error 5 (0x00000005): "Access is denied. ". The create file operation will fail with error -1032 (0xfffffbf8).

And then:
SettingSyncHost (4916) Unable to create a new logfile because the database cannot write to the log drive. The drive may be read-only, out of disk space, misconfigured, or corrupted. Error -1032.

These are both generated by source ESENT.

I am a member of Administrators (and Home Users) and from File Explorer I could manually create a folder (did not get the option to create a file) in C::\Windows\System32. From an elevated command prompt I could create a file in the System32 directory. I have 425 GB free space on the SSD. So the problem doesn't seem to be "read-only, out of disk space, misconfigured, or corrupted."

Does anyone have any ideas?

Every time the computer is turned on or restarted it runs Starup Repair. When i look at the diagnosis it says 'boot critical file c:\ci.dll is corrupt'. I have already tried to restore the computer but i don't have the discs where i have backed up the computer. I have also run a virus scan with Avira and it did pick up 4 viruses and i removed them but the error still occurs. If someone could help me and give me guidance it'll be much appreciated.

A:Startup Repair error : Boot critical file c:\ci.dll is corrupted

After the PC tries the start up repair, select advanced options. From there you should be able to access CMD.

Once you get CMD open run this command. sfc /scannow -This will scan the integrity of all protected system files and repairs the system files if needed.

AVG Anti-Spyware Free Edition (avgas-setup-7.5.1.43.exe)
No other anti-virus software installed prior to problem.

Yesterday, my AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition stopped working. When I try to run the program I get a message saying some files are missing. I tried to "repair" it using the installer file but it didn't work. So I uninstalled it and tried to re-install the progarm. However I got this message

I uninstalled AVG Anti-Spyware without seeing if it was working or not. Now I can re-install it either

Hi there and thanks for having a read of this nightmare.

A friend of mine has recently purchased a very nice arrangement of components from CCL and today has been a day of assembly, cursing, removing, more cursing and intense internet related searching but to no avail.

The current pc specs are now as follows:
*NEW COMPONENTS*
1 x Asus P5P800 SE motherboard (skt775 & dual intel 865 - PE 800 FSB / DDR400)
1 x Pentium 4 630 (775) 3.0GHz / 800FSB / 2MB
1 x Corsair CMX1024-4000PT 1024MB 500MHz ram
1 x NEC-3550 Black OEM 16xDVD RW
and
1 x 250GB Maxtore 16Mb SATA HDD

*EXISTING COMPONENTS*
1 x ATI X800SE 256mg Graphics card
1 x Samsung HDD 160gig
1 x Maxtor HDD 60gig
1 x 3 1/2" FDD
1 x 650W PSU
1 x 512meg PC2100 ram (not installed)

Were attempting to install Windows XP Pro SP2 to no avail. Original errors included Ntkrnlmp.exe Could Not Be Loaded Error Code 7.

This however was apparently passed with a number of bios changes (disabling USB, ACPI) and the setup continued past the BSOD and hung numerous times whilst attempting to load the windows environment. Eventually (no idea how) it went past these issues and allowed partitioning of the SATA HDD.
One 70 gig partition was created and after three attempts completly copied the files over to the partition. 5 attempted restarts later and the errors keep on coming! BSOD after BSOD.

Is there a known problem with installing directly onto a SATA HDD?

A:New components, win2k pro failed install

Hi,

Couple of questions and comments:

If you have a new Maxtor Sata drive (I assumed you did from what was said), then I strongly suggest that you use the Maxtor Utility to prepare the drive (partition and format) for installation on your computer.

Here is a link to all hard drive utilities:

http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287

While using that Maxtor utility, download the Sata drivers for the drive and put them on a floppy. (I know, you don't have to always do this because windows is supposted to have them...but).

When you started the WinXP install, do you have the BIOS setup menu set to:

CDRom - 1st
Floppy - 2nd
Sata Drive - 3rd (this would be your boot drive)

Don't forget to save before you exit if you make changes.

When your system starts to load XP, did you tap f6 to load other drives when it asks that question?

When it stops and asks for the drivers, did you put in the floppy copy and let it add them?

Oh, on the other issue, I don't recommend adding any other hard drives until which time you have it all set up properly with your boot drive. When that is done, then add away.

Post back with questions and concerns.

I recently had a virus and had Malwarebytes scan and fix all the problem files. I don't know if that is related but it could be. The next day I went to restart my laptop, the windows screen came up and everything. Then the little box came up where the sign in should be that said windows is starting, but it said that for a longish time and then I got an error message that said:This system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown was initiated by\System restarting in: 60 secondsThe system process 'C:\Windows\system32\lsass.exe' terminated unexpectadly with status code - 10734741819. Why did that happen? And is there anyway to prevent it?

A:Error with System32 file

You restarted it with the last known good settings, that may have well fixed it, but you could use System Restore to make sure of it? I would just watch it for a day or so? If it plays up again System Restore it to yesterday's Date.

Sounds like some thing gave you a gentle Hit and it has gone by selecting "Last known working settings"

I say yes

Windows 7 says "error file is open in another program"

There is some kind of delayed file protection inside windows 7 that is not in windows XP nor vista.

in XP or vista you can copy and replace files with no problems.

I have searched and found several possible fixes that dont fix the problem:
1.) I set the advanced owner permisions to my whole C: drive to have the owner as Administrator instead of trusted installer

2.) UAC is off and I have set all basic permissions to full control on admin and on everyone

A:Windows 7 file in use error and batch save error

I read your question several times to make sure I am following you correctly.

What I am perceiving from what you are describing is that you are attempting to put two files of the same name in the same folder at the same time. Is this correct?

Normally it will create or allow the file to be in the same folder but will add a 2 to the end of the file.
such as bla.exe and bla(2).exe

I use Microsofts Visual Studio 2010 a lot and have created batch files for some programs I have worked on and only use Windows 7 most of the time.

I have not experienced the issues you speak of with being warned that the batch file is in use elsewhere on my system when I am working with a batch file.

If I am way off course here, sorry about my misunderstanding your question.

Recently, after cleaning up my Dell laptop (running Win 2K) of some viruses and adware/spyware that I'd been infected with, I started to get the following error message on start-up:

"File Missing: C:\Program or one of it's components is missing"

I can click on "Cancel" and the error message goes away and continues to boot to the login prompt. Everything seems to be working fine, and I haven't noticed any applications acting strange, however, I'm wondering if this error is important and what (if anything) I can do to fix it.

Hello Forum,

My wife's computer won't boot. I get the message, "Windows can not start because a file is missing or corrupt" System32\DRIVERS\pci.sys

It appears that the CD ROM was not operating properly for awhile prior to this problem although the computer was operating. Since the error message, the monitor has quit as well. The monitor will now not operate with or without being connected to the computer. I suppose that this may be just a coincedence.

I have searched the internet for fixes for this problem with System32\DRIVERS\pci.sys and have found numerous bits of information, advice and fixes but I still have not had any success. I tried using the XP Setup Boot Disk with no success. I was in the Recovery Console with no success. The Restore CD that came with the computer did nothing.

I am also looking for a way to tell if the CD ROM is working or not. I am wondering if there is a way to access the DOS window even though the XP is not loading and I have no access to "Start" or "run" etc.

Thanks for any help,
gal

This has been puzzling me since Vista and now Windows 7; at least now I know the reason...

The type of file being changed is .txt, .css, .html, etc. Open the file in Notepad, Dreamweaver, or any other HTML editor, modify the content, and save or "Ctrl+S" the file under the original name. Windows does not allow saving the file and presents this pop up:

Reducing the content of the file generally does not result in this error, depending on the level of reduction; addition on the other hand always does.

The culprit for this error is the Windows Explorer layout, more accurately the "Preview pane" under "Organize\Layout" section. Explorer displays the content of the file in the "Preview pane" if and when the file name is highlighted. As far as Windows is concerned at that point, the file is "opened/owned" by Windows Explorer and as such, the system locks file editing by any other application. It doesn't matter that both the Windows Explorer and the file in itself opened by the same user, evidently Windows Explorer process takes precedent over other application process when it comes to modifying file content. This file lock is temporary and last until the file name is highlighted or Explorer is closed. The permanent fix for this error is to disable Explorer's "Preview pane", especially for people who edit HTML files with Notepad or any other HTML editor.

Interestingly, none of the MS Office files display this error wh... Read more

Hey guys, my brothers PC has been having a pretty bad problem lately. he's using Windows Vista.

So here is the problem as follows, he boots up his PC to get the Error Windows/System32/Config after he try's to boot up in any mode Safe Mode, Last Good Configuration That Worked..... And then he restarts his PC to get the same message over and over again.

So i thought we'll have to format it, so i put in a Windows 7 disk and it just wont read the disk at all, i tried it on mine and it read it fine so he's basically stuck in a loop of this error now, iv tried changing the option in SETUP to boot from disk but it's still the same.

It's a long shot but does anyone know a fix or anything for this?

What I do when I have problems like that when repairing computers . I have a external hard drive enclose that accepts Sata and eSata hard drives. I would take the hard drive out and run thru my laptop . That way you can save important files , run checks, and format and reinstall if necessary . I by no means have near as much knowledge as these guys here have . This always works for me . I know it's not a direct fix to your problem but it will work .
Thanks good luck

Yesterday I removed Windows 7 & did a clear install of Windows 8.1 x64. Now whenever I try to save a file on different partition like D,E, etc I get the dialog box that I do not have permissions to save the file to this location even though I am clearly the administrator & I have disabled UAC. All I am doing is downloading a file from Internet Explorer & saving it to my softwares folder which is located on a separate partition & drive. I also get a prompt & have to click the continue button when I try to delete a file. Deletion works but I hate the prompting part.

I will be creating a guest account soon so can somebody please tell me what the solution is? All I want is to save or delete a file without any restriction be it from an administrator account or guest account.

A:Error: You do not have permissions to save file

So strange. The only thing I can think of is for you to go to This Computer, then right-click on each first level sub-folder on each drive, then click on Properties- to see if by chance they are set to read-only mode.

There are various permission and user settings, but you shouldn't have to go there first.

You can reinstall any existing Windows updates normally. There just won't be any new updates. It sounds like the recovery partition may have become corrupt. When you had Windows loaded previously were you able to see the recovery partition in 'Computer'? Was your laptop already pre-loaded with Windows 7? If not then a complete re-install of Windows 7 may be required.

While saving a web page, internet explorer used to make a folder named "FileName_files" for the file "FileName.htm". Now, it has stopped this practice, meaning thereby that the "FileName.htm" is a temporary File which is available as long as the "Temporary Internet Files" are available and no more. Please help me restore the previous functionality.

A:Internet Explorer File/Save As Error

What version of Internet Explorer? What operating system?

Try saving the .htm file in a folder other than the "temp" or "temporary internet files" folder, such as "my documents."

I have a Rock CTX Pro with Windows XP Pro, service pack 3, 2.33 GHZ dual core.

When loading my computer, after getting to the loading windows page, it brings up an error message that says:

The following file is missing or corrupt: Windows\system32\config\SYSTEM

My gf has the same problem on her computer though this message doesn't come up, it jus shuts off after the windows loading page. We checked the USB she has been using and found it has a worm and trojan:

Worm.Win32.Perlovga.a and Trojan-Dropper.Win32.Small.apl

I have read that these load something into the system32 folder though I have found nothing about it preventing a pc from actually loading windows.

I also read that to repair it, you could use the Windows XP recovery CD and follow a certain number of steps by selecting the Repair option when it loads. However, I only have an OEM version from Rock and the Repair feature does not seem to be available on it. It only shows available partitions and asks if I would like to install Windows XP.

If anyone has any thoughts then I'd be really grateful for the help. Thanks

I realize that this can normally be corrected with the Window CD, but my notebook has no CD drive. So far, I've used F12 for the boot utility and tried to restore setup configs thinking (not successfully) that would help. Now the messages are "no boot filename recieved" HELP!!!!!

A:\windows\system32\config\system file missing error with no CD drive

Press F12 at bootup go to the Boot Order make sure the HDD is the first boot device. If you do not have that option boot into Setup (Bios) usually pressing F2. find Boot Order and change the boot order for HDD first boot device. If that fails, if you have the choice to boot from USB in the Boot Order, then you can create a bootable USB Flash Drive and copy your XP CD to it.

I am running Vista Home Premium on a HP Pavilion Entertainment PC. I have a 160Gb hard drive with 86Gb of free space. I have been trying to build a mapset for my Garmin GPS in Garmins Mapsource program. The program compiles the mapset ok but cannot save the file because the system says the hard drive is full. I have saved this file on this computer before and it worked ok. How do I get rid of the hard drive full error?

A:Cannot save file due to hard drive full error

It may be a simple case of temporary folder space. A cleaning of temp folders is where I would start.

Here is a link for CCleaner:

http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

One time I could not get a well known Firewall & Antivirus package to install. It turns out it crashed because it requires >2GB of space in the temporary folders which was not available. A cleaning fixed that.

I hope this is all it is, if not, have you looked at the compiler's log file? What about Event Viewer?

Hello,
I am running Microsoft Word 2000, Windows XP SP2.

The problem I am having is trying to save edited MS Word documents on a usb flash drive. After I have done some editing with my word document and try to save it to the usb flash drive, the error messages "Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error" prompted into his screen. I then discovered that the file was deleted from the flash drive whenever he try to save the file directly to flash drive.

I can duplicate the scenario and get the same problem over and over again.

So fare this only seems to happen with MS Word documents being saved on the USB drive. If I save a word doc on the C drive, open it, and edit it, it allows me to save the file with the updates to the C drive as normal.

Any suggestions? I'm not sure what a "file permission error is". I am using Norton Internet Security 2007, and I have tried disabiling it, thinking that it was a secuirty problem related to Norton, but that did not work either.

Please advise if you can help me.

Thank you

A:Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error

Hi

Depending on you flash drive, it could be write protected. There may be a small slider switch to move. Do you have a secure flash drive? These flash drives offer secure sections on the flash drive and you may need to use the software that came with the drive to unlock it.

It could also be faulty!

Hope this helps

I have windows 8. and I have a recovery disc which is doing no good. Every time I start my laptop I get a blue screen that says "critical service failed" I've tried everything. Please help I have asus a53u

A:Critical service Failed

One of two things has happened: your laptop's harddrive died; Windows got corrupted somehow.

Can you tell us if this is a fresh install of Windows 8? How new is Windows and the Laptop? Can you recall anything that recently happened that might have caused it? What are you actually doing with the recovery disc? You should be trying to do:
System Restore
Startup Repair
SFC

If neither of those works, especially SFC, then your only resort is probably do a Refresh or Reset. If those don't work, then you have a drive problem of some sort.

If this is a very new laptop, then your best option is to send it to Asus for repair/replacement. Most likely you just purchased a dud PC.

(Win-XP) After getting an Error Msg telling me that I was "missing" a file named mshtml.hlp, I began a Google search using "mshtml.hlp" as the search string. Many search return results indicated that the problem was a programming language issue and others suggested that I search the Microsoft Knowledgebase. While reading these, one part of my mind was chewing on the question... what has changed in the 48 hours since I was able to save images that were embedded in my Outlook Express E-mail. It occurred to me that Microsoft had more or less forced IE7 on me 24 hours ago as an automatic update. That is the only thing different. I change my search string in Google to "uninstall ie7" and found instructions to uninstall ie7.Went to the "Control Panel", found Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7 and uninstalled it. I must admit that there was some concern in the back of my mind as to what Explorer version, if any, I would be left with. Once the uninstall was completed, I rebooted and lo... all was as it was before the problem. I had IE6 and OE6 (Outlook Express 6) back. I tried using the Save-As feature on the same images that had caused me to get the error message. Nice... the error was fixed. No error msg and the image was saved the way I used to do it.Moderator Edit: Moved topic to more appropriate forum and added a topic descriptor. ~ Animal

Try to reinstall SP2 on your system. This will, effectively, repair Internet Explorer 6 (you may have to visit Windows Update to ensure that it didn't wipe out some of your updates).

If there is a configuration/settings file, backup somewhere and delete to see if game will recreate a default one.

You can also try to install the DirectX installer possibly in game/redist folder. Maybe it got corrupted somehow.

A:I'm Having Issues With Deleting The File " ~e5d141.tmp File And Other Components Associated With It...

Hello morphiusiam and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I do not see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean.

Having tmp files in the temp folder is normal. This is where programs put temporary files. If they are deleted, the program will create a new one when needed. As soon as the temp folder is cleaned out, temporary files will start showing up again as quickly as programs need. The folder will probably never be completely cleaned out. I clean my temp folders out once a week and as soon as they are clean tmp files start showing up again. This is simply what happens with Windows.

There are various programs like Unlocker (do a Google search) that can tell you what program is using a file and has it locked. This will tell you which program is creating the file and allow you to unlock it and delete it. If the file is deleted, however, the program using it may become unstable so I wouldn't recommend deleting it whilethe application using it is running.

Cheers.

OK, I have run out of ideas and things to check. I have a 90gb hard drive (internal), it's got about 45gb free. I have defragged, I have deleted tons of temp files, and other files, etc. Still I cannot save or move a 190 KB sized file. I keep getting 'not enough free space on the disk' message.

This is already an NTFS device, and the file doesn't exceed a fat32 size anyway, so that's not the issue I am facing.

I have closed down all programs, except the app I am using to try to create and then save this file (it's like Microsoft Office, plain text or excel file format just using Sun's StarOffice instead), I have rebooted numerous times all to no avail.

Anybody have any other ideas on why I am still getting this message and cannot save any files?? Any help or info greatly appreciated.

I got another call from my Dad today. After cleaning his computer completely last month with help from BleepingComputer.com there is another problem so I went to check it out. I can't believe it.

Now on startup a fake system scan runs with many warning of I/O errors and critical hard drive problems. It tries to take you to file-recovery-system.com to buy something. Obviously it is a virus/hijack. I searched on the web for fixes and was able to use RKill.exe to at least stop the process and the warnings. I tried to install MBAM but the install failed twice, I get a permission denied warning. I tried to install after restarting in safe mode, but had the same access denied at the end of the install.

Computer is Windows 7. I am posting from my clean computer since the browser redirects on his computer make it almost impossible.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.

Some clients of ours have difficulties installing our MSI application.
When looking into the MSI.log, You see the following error.

DIFXAPP: ENTER: ProcessDriverPackages()
DIFXAPP: ERROR - The operating system you are running on is not supported. Only Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows codenamed Longhorn are supported.
CustomAction MsiProcessDrivers returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)
MSI (s) (E8:28) [15:06:16:300]: Machine policy value 'DisableRollback' is 0
Action ended 15:06:16: MsiProcessDrivers. Return value 3.

Looking around on the internet, there were 2 suggested fixes:

1)
To resolve this issue, check if the Windows Application Compatibility setting is turned off in Group Policy Object (GPO).

Turn off Windows Application Compatibility as follows:

1. Launch the Microsoft Management Console (mmc.exe) and add the Group Policy Object snap-in
2. Browse to the Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Application Compatibility folder
3. Select "Turn Off Application Compatibility Engine"
4. Set this policy to be enabled in order to turn off Windows Application Compatibility
2)
Use Compatability mode > Users do not have access to them.
Does anyone encountered this error before and know what to do with it?
Thanks in advance!

Right click in empty area on the right side and select "Add Row". Navigate to the location of the updated drivers from the Drivers Library (C:\WinDDK\7100.0.0\redist\DIFx\DIFxApp\WixLib\x86). Add both the DIFxApp.dll and DIFxAppA.dll files, making sure the row name is the same as the DLL file name.

Just recently my computer started acting all weird. When I start it up, a window comes up saying it can't find System32.exe. So I click OK, and go about whatever I'm going to do. But then when I open or load something, there is a brief pause. It's not like the normal loading time, so this get pretty annoying after awhile. Now when I try to restart the computer, a window comes up saying it's closing Save.exe, and it won't let me restart the computer, so I have to just press the power button. I ran Ad-Aware, but that froze during a scan. I tried the newly installed Norton(most of these problems started up when I installed it, but I'm sure it's not the cause of them) and that found a few thing, but failed deleting them. Also, Zone Alarm would frequently ask me if I wanted allow messenger to access the internet when I wasn't using it. The first time this happened, I clicked yes, and a window came up saying that it was sending too many messages and had to stop.

If anyone here knows what's going on and could help, that would be greatly appreciated.

One of my user is having this problem on her Windows XP PC:

Dell GX260 with Windows XP Professional running 512MB RAM, Office XP, Acrobat 5.0

When opening a Word file & edited in Word XP, the user cannot SAVE or use SAVE AS the file, when try to exit out the file, get prompt to either SAVE, CLOSE, or CANCEL the file, at that point it will still not save the file, the only way to exit the file is to hit CLOSE to exit.

I initially thought this might be a Word Xp problem, so I ran the repair tool in Office XP, that did not fix it.

I then uninstalled Office XP, reinstalled Office XP, but that also did not fix the problem.

I then ran the Office update to download the latest patches from MicroSoft, but that also did not fix the problem.

I then UNINSTALLED Acrobat 5.0 from the PC, that FIXED the problem.

WITHOUT Acrobat 5.0 on her PC, the user was now able to open & edit a Word file, and able to SAVE the edited file, also able use SAVE AS to save the file as a new copy.

I then reinstalled Acrobat 5.0 thinking the previous copy of Acrobat 5.0 on the PC might be corrupted, as soon as Acrobat 5.0 was back on the PC, the same problem with the SAVE feature came back in Word XP.

I then installed the patch update for Acrobat 5.0, that did not fix the problem.

At this point, I am out of clues on how to fix it....The user tried Acrobat 6.0 before on the same PC, but decided to reverse back to Acrobat 5.0 because of format problem with 6.0.......so Acrobat 6.0 is no... Read more

My OS is Vista Business 32bit, running on a HP Compaq 6715b Notebook. In the middle of September this year I suddenly noticed following event error: Event ID: 49 - Event Source: "volmgr". Followed by this message: "Configuring the Page file for crash dump failed. Make sure there is a page file on the boot partition and that is large enough to contain all physical memory". I have not found out what caused this error message, but from that date, I find this error message twice every time I boot my PC. I have no other error messages, and I have not noticed any problems with my PC, as far as I can see Vista and my PC work perfectly well together. I am informed that Microsoft has a hot-fix for this problem http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955635 dated July 25, 2008. However, in this document Microsoft recommends waiting for the next software update that will contain this fix, if I am not severely affected, because the hotfix could create unexpected effects. Nevertheless, I have received a lot of updates after September, and I have still this error message. Any gurus or other experts in this forum having ideas what to do? Should I just install the hotfix, or wait for more updates?

A:Error 49: Conf page file for crash dump failed

Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
Save the report as an .nfo file, zip it up, and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

That'll give us some information about your system so that we can get started on trying to fix it.

Windows Vista Home

Installed Microsoft office 2003 Installed custom install of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Publisher. They all work you can type in them and print the page ect. However all of them if you go to save the file such as a word doc to the desktop like always did type whatever and then go to file and save as have the file named etc and with all of them it comes up with an error sayin

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. YOu can save a file from any of them, like I said you can open them and do whatever you want and print them out but cannot save them. Can someone tell me why I am gettting the error and why it wion't save?

With regard to clearing lists of [recently opened and/or saved] file names in Windows file dialog boxes, Orbital Shark had described the following procedure (from his 01 Nov., '10 post-) How to Clear This Dialog Box ? :

"If you want to selectively clear the Common Dialog file names MRU, you need to delete these two registry keys manually:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ ComDlg32 \ LastVisitedPidlMRU

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ ComDlg32 \ OpenSavePidlMRU"

My question is as follows (and it is probably a silly one, therefore please bear with me and thank you):

Is the prescribed procedure to delete the *actual keys* ("LastVisitedPidlMRU" & "OpenSavePidlMRU"), or instead to delete the *contents* of those keys? i.e.: Should I select/highlight the key within the left panel of the Regisgtry Editor, and then select delete; or should I select/highlight the key within the left panel, and then select/highlight in the right panel all the contents of that respective key, and then delete all those contents (not the actual key itself) indicated in the right panel?

Thanks much for your patience and for your help! Win

A:Residual File Names in Save/Save As Dialog Boxes

Hello Windough, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Deleting those actual keys would work best. If you like, the tutorial below will help you do this automatically instead of having to manually do it in regedit.Common Dialog Boxes - Clear Dropdown List of Recent Files History
In addition, you might look at this tutorial if you do not want to have this history kept.Common Dialog Boxes - Enable or Disable Dropdown List of Recent Files
Hope this helps,
Shawn
