I recently had to reinstal Windows XP Media Center SP3 operating system on my Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop. When trying to install Pure Networks Net Magc Pro it will not run as it says the platform service is no running. When I try to start the platform service I get the following Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.
Does anyone know how to correct this situation.

Thanks.

The full message is error 1075: The dependancy service either does not exist or has been marked for deletion

This started with a tidserv!inf infection. Norton End-Point seems to have deleted all related virus infections, however, I am now unable to start the DHCP service. I have to set a static IP in order to connect to the internet.

I believe tdx.dll was identified as a virus and deleted. it was listed as a dependancy of dhcp but had no descriptor. Currently it is not listed as a dependancy.

I cannot view network shares from this PC nor can I view shares that I host here on other PC's. Only this computer shows up in net places.

I did an sfc /scannow and it told me audiodev.dll and mofd.dll were corrupted and the files in the store have been corrupted.

I had to take ownership with the admin group in order to replace them with extracted copies from my windows cd, but I when I went back to reassign trustedinstaller as the owner it was not listed as an option.

my cd is without service pack and my installed service pack is sp2.

can anyone be of assistance.

A:DHCP error 1075

My dhcp was working for a day but its back down again. i dont know how to recreate the dependancy on tdx

DHCP and TCP/IP can not be started from Services with out the following error.

Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.

I've checked the dependencies and all are running.

AFD is the only driver common to both DHCP and TCP/IP so I assumed it is either not running or is corrupt..yet when I try to start AFD from the CMD prompt I get...."service is already running.

I have since disabled my Lan Connection via Network Connections as it just sits there trying to acquire ip without ever timing out.

I also performed a registry scan with Registry Booster in Safe Mode. It reported:

1061 System Errors
205 User Errors, and
1 Third Party Error

A cursory review of the log tells me the majority have to do with poorly uninstalled programs. I did NOT let Registry Booster fix anything.

Hello all,

I've noticed that a few people have posted concerning this topic, so I've tried to read up on as many possible solutions before posting. I'm recently recovering from a mild virus infection on my computer, and noticed that after I had run Avast! and Malwarebytes to remove the virus, my computer lost its internet functionality. Upon running ipconfig in command prompt, I noticed that the computer was not being assigned an IP address, which lead me to believe there could be an issue with DHCP.

When running services.msc, I notice that both DHCP client and TCP/IP netbios are not running, and when I try to run them, I get an error 1075, that the files are "either non-existent or marked for deletion". I noticed that someone else had posted a very similar problem, but a few of the more advanced fixes seemed specifically tailored for their issue.

Below are the fixes I've attempted thus far -

1. Checked the registry for DHCP?s dependencies (3 are listed, Afd, Tcpip, and NetBT).
2. Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults by typing ?netsh int ip reset reset.log? into command prompt.
3. Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults by typing ?netsh winsock reset catalog? into command prompt.
4. Ran ?sfc /scannow? with an XP SP3 CD.

I'm currently running Windows XP Media Center, Service Pack 3 on a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop I had purchased in mid-2006.

DHCP error 1075--can not start the DHCP client on local computer.Dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion..

Hi thanks for any help you can give.
Machine is a Dell dimension e520
Win XP Media center edition SP 2

I have the original dell discs and access to a working laptop also running win XP [this one]

During a routine virus scan by avira anti vir it quarentined c:\windowes\system32\drivers\netby.sys.

This disabled the DHCP client so no IP traffic
I restored the file but still no luck

After trying to renew the IP and some searching around I found that the HKEY local machine system currentcontrolset services NETbt registry key is missing

In services DHCP cannot be restarted --gives the warning above.
AFD and TCP/IP are in device manager -non plug & play show hidden devices NETbt is not

Can the registry be repaired from the original discs without having to reinstall everything else?
Or is it as easy as inserting the missing registry key?

Thanks Bob

Greetings,
I am having a major DHCP error on my girlfriend's laptop. I am primarily a Linux user so I'm kinda lost here as her machine is running XP. It's a Dell XPS M1210 which, conveniently, did not come with a recovery CD or even partition.
Anyway, a few weeks ago her wireless network device stopped working. It would look like it was connecting, but it would hang on "Acquiring network address." At first I thought maybe the device was shot, until I had the chance to test out the wired ethernet, which has the same problem.
After quite a bit of googling, I ran services.msc, and saw that DHCP is not running. When I try to start it from that menu, however, I get this message: "Could not start the DHCP Client service on Local computer. Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion."
After more googling, I discovered that DHCP has only 3 dependencies: TCP/IP, AFD, and NetBt. I checked the registry, and those were the only ones listed.
After even more googling, I ran devmgmt.msc and selected "show hidden devices" and double clicked on "non plug and play devices." I TCP/IP and AFD are both there. NetBt, however, is not.
I've spent hours doing further googling and tried pretty much every fix I could find and nothing seems to work. If the PC had shipped with a recovery CD I imagine this would be easy to fix but alas no luck. I need to get this working so I can set up my new internets and I... Read more

DHCP Client will not start from services menu and neither will TCP/IP all other networking services appear to be started and working.

DHCP dependencies are:

AFD Networking Support Environment
TCP/IP Protocol
IPSEC driver
TCP/IP dependencies are:
AFD

Since the TCP/IP's only dependency is AFD I suspect it has been deleted or corrupted. How do I go about fixing that?

Need help solving Error #1075 problem in conjunction with CheckPoint VPN NGX R60 HFA3. I am using a Dell E6510 laptop computer running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit OS. I can get this VPN to run and connect when I use Microsoft's XP virtual machine sitting on the Windows 7 desktop but I cannot get it to run on the Windows 7 desktop by itself.

Although the VPN seems to load without incident the associated icon "key" does not appear in the notification tray at the lower right. It does appear in the XP virtual machine and on a separate HP desk top running Vista.

When I type services.msc at the Win 7 command prompt I get a list of all the loaded services including the CheckPoint VPN. It is at this point when I try to start the VPN I get the 1075 error. When I check the dependencies under the VPN I find the "CheckPoint Office Mode Module" and the "VPN-1 Module".

How do I determine if these dependencies are causing the 1075 error message? What steps do I need to take to resolve the error message so the VPN will start?

I have read through the original thread (now closed) and tried all it's suggestions. However, I am still having the same IP (on lack of) issues. I ended my efforts with the running of SFC /SCANNOW which took a considerable amount of time, but resulted in no errors of any kind.

I continue to get the Error 1075: the dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion, message when trying to start the DHCP Client.

I'm afraid searching the suggested logs for the dependency items it a little over my head.

A little background for my situation. The computer in question is my teenage daughters. A week ago she started having problems with the internet and I'm assuming this is some sort of virus. Whenever selecting a website to launch to, something intervenes and chooses some alternate website. Never the same one twice. I loaded AVAST free version and did a scan. I also updated Malware Bytes and did another scan. I then loaded Kaspersky TDDS killer and did a scan with that. After all that, and roughly 15 files quarantined and deleted, I now have this IP problem. I cannot restore the computer back to an earlier time.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

My PC is three years old and has been a great machine. I run Windows XP Home Edition, I.E. 7 and have all the protection installed I can find.

Quite by accident I discovered my System Restore is not working. I don't need it at the moment (!!!) but I like everything to be as near as perfect as possible on my PC so I have been trying to discover what the SR problem is and how I can resolve it.

I keep getting the message "S R is not able to protect your computer. Please restart and run SR again"............This advice does not work. for me!
I cannot turn off SR for the same reason.

I then checked out this section of the forum and discovered that many people have had this same problem. I have tried downloading Kelly's file 238 (I think that was the number) ; I have tried accessing services.msc ; I have tried accessing i386: nothing!

I did get the message "Error 1075: "Dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion". This error seeems to apply to many facilities on a PC.

I have my windows XP disk but cannot lay my hands on the SP2 one so I don't want to mess about without your professional advice to do so!! (apologies!)

As I said, if you solve my problem you will be miracle workers and worthy of your wings.

My thanks for any help you can offer me.

A:System Restore Won't Work : Error 1075

Right click My Computer > Manage > Expand Event Viewer > Look under Application and/or System to see if there is any event reporting on about System Restore.

Please do let us know if there is, a screenshot would be a great help.

Another workaround would be searching for sr.inf, right click it and select "Install". You might need Window XP install disc.

Hey all!
I am really desperate. I've tried a few things that other people have posted here, especially Cookiegal and Lumpola but this issue persists.

I had a virus. I think I got rid of it. Avast scans and boot time scans and Super Anti Spyware and TDSS killer report all clear. However, the network shield of Avast and the Internet don't work.
Points to note:
1. In services, the DHCP and DNS cannot be started. I get the error 1075: service has been marked for deletion or one of it's dependancies are missing. (close to that)

I've checked the dependancies of both, and reinstated the ADF module in device manager after selecting the 'View Hidden' option.

A:DHCP Server Service -Error 1075 - not starting

2. I've tried deleting the winsock and winsock2 entries in the registry.
3. From the command prompt, SFC/scan now terminates at 82%. thrice.
4. I can see the network, both wired and wireless, I can connect, but it says I have limited connectivity.

This is my sister's netbook. The problems started with one of those new "fake antivirus" that puts up a ton of obviously fake results that claim your computer is highly infected*. She being... less technologically inclined apparently decided to run the "Antivirus scan" over and over again over night and then the next day gave it to me to try to figure out what was wrong. I can't find the links right now but I found a bunch of blogs that mentioned (Privacyprotection.exe) and among the most frustrating aspects what that it blocked pretty much everything from running. I did a bit of digging and eventually found out it was a rootkit causing the issues and the tools they gave me wouldn't run but I was able to follow the manual instructions. (remove the .exe, remove the alias, regedit and remove the key that matched privacyprotection.exe but not the other ones like the one underchrome etc). That took care of the major problem and I was able to get Microsoft Security Essentials running but everyscan kept turning up a few "Trojans" and that upon trying to clean would result in an error. The error would lead to 'restart to finish removel'. I tried safe mode and the same result. One top of that google results kept getting redirected (forget the site right now.. something like awesomesearch.com or what have you). I decided to try from another angle the redirect angle and found thishttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic422038.htmlI t... Read more

Hey Everyone.

Maybe someone could be of help. I have gone through several different forums and have attempted several ways to try to fix this but have had no luck.

I have tried the netsch winsock reset
I have tried the ipconfig /renew
My DNS service starts but my dchp client doesnt want to and gives me the error 1075.
I have removed NAV still nothing.

I have also tried many other alternatives but im just not remembering at the moment and I am just stumped.

Internet works on my other two computers, but my laptop is what seems to not want to connect wirelessly or routed. Something seems to be blocked or missing.

If anyone can please help me in any way possible it would greatly be appreciated. If you need me to provide some more details please let me know.

My computer (vista) was infected with a virus. So I first used rkill/iexplore then ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware since my protection (Panda) doesn't seem to do its job correctly. The first time I did this, everything seemed to return to normal. Couple of days later, the same virus started up. I redid what I did...and it seemed to work again...until I tried using the internet. (I think Malwarebytes deleted something in the registry?)

There was an error saying that "DHCP error 1075: The dependancy service either does not exist or has been marked for deletion". I googled this on my laptop and followed some of the instructions found online. None of it worked...

I went into device manager->hiddle files->non plug and play drivers:
There was a problem with these with the same code for them: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)
App Filter Plugin
NetMon Filter Plugin
Panda Net Driver [TDI Layer]
VSCore mferkdk

Finally, I have included the last three logs from Malwarebytes showing which files were deleted by the program.

Thank you for looking over this!!

Hello,

On July 12th 2012, my computer installed updates. After rebooting and waiting for me on the login screen, I gave it a hard shutdown to check on the BIOS settings (for a little side project, in the end I did not save any changes). After booting and logging in again, I find that many services are not running. I ran a very thorough check for malware and viruses (took over 24 hours to complete), and still no solutions. I have uninstalled/reinstalled my Broadcom 802.11g Wireless Driver several times.
I now look in the Event Viewer and find that the DHCP Client service is not running! It is set to automatic start in Services.msc, but when I try to manually start it, it gives me error 1075 (some dependencies do not exist or are marked for deletion). Running ipconfig, I notice that my system is using an APIPA-formatted address (169.254.x.x), indicating that the computer couldn't find a DHCP server.

My Event Viewer is peppered with:

A:windows audio: error 1075 the dependency service does not exist or has

From your description there are many more problems than just the windows audio error.

I would suspect an Operating System problem. If you can find a friend to download the Windows 7 Home Premium ISO and burn it to a DVD, that would give you the needed disc to try and repair Windows. Although your DVD drive does not work in Windows, it should work for booting.

Here is the link to the forum post. There are links to the various versions. You can download the same version that you have.

A:Solved: DHCP client and TCPIP Netbios helper 1075 error

I was able to restart DHCP services by deleting the registry entry and rebooting. I went into the registry editor, located the DHCP subkey, right click on dependonservice and clicked on delete.
However TCPIP Netbios helper I could still not start, even after running sfc/scannow.
The solution for me was to restore the operating system to an earlier point in time. In windows xp, go to programs> accessories>disk utilities> system restore and follow the directions. I suppose I could have done that for both problems? At least I didnít have to reinstall XP!

Anyway I can connect to internet now

How to Flush DNS in Windows Using the Command Prompt

Step 1 ? Close all open web browsers and applications on your computer.

Step 2 ? Open the Windows command prompt by selecting the ?Start? menu and then go all programs, accessories, then right click command and run as admin.

Step 3 ? At the command prompt, enter ?ipconfig /flushdns? followed by pressing the ?enter? key. After a moment, Windows will display a message similar to: ?Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.? Once the message is displayed, the DNS will be flushed removing all incorrect entries.

Then , we want to get the IP reset, so, lets renew its settings and see if this also helps out :
you will type in the command box : ipconfig /release then enter, then next ipconfig /renew then enter, this will reset the IP , now restart and attempt to have it reconfigure its connections to your router. Post back results please.

Recently purchased a new computer. I was having issues with installing Windows 7 and learned that HyperTransport is sometimes the cause of the issue and by turning it from "Auto" in the BIOS settings to "X1" can resolve the issue, and for me it did.

After installing Windows 7 and waiting to see if there were any other errors I went back to turn HyperTransport back to "Auto" I'm above computer savvy, but not far when it comes to hardware, I'm more of a software kind of guy. After doing so I was receiving consistent BSOD's. And after turning HyberTransport back to "X1" they went away narrowing it down to this being my issue.

I didn't know if updating my BIOS would help the issue so I decided to ask around first.

Computer Specs:

AMD Phenom II X6 1075T with HyperTransport
Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3
8Gig of Corsair Dominator
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1Gig

I have no idea about the power that any of these pieces should be receiving, nor if that would even be the cause of the problem. Also, windows freezes along with the BSODs saying that a video driver went out but was recovered, I just installed the latest video drivers. At the time of posting this the computer has been running for 2hours without HyperTransport set to "Auto"

Would updating the BIOS fix the problem?

Thank you!

everytime I do I recieve the message *cannot init language file* this is the same message for both avg and McAfee so really at a loss.
have also been recieving the messages when I logg on to the computer
avgcore.vxd and avgfsh.vxd cannot find if you want to continue using reinstall you know the normal jargon
would appreciate your help please

A:AVG n McAfee error

Did you delete avg 1st, then reboot, then install McAfee? Otherwise there'd be files clashing. Try this: boot into safemode and type in 'find' Grisoft and delete all files; type in 'run' regedit and back up registry by Registry/Export Registry (select range 'all') to desktop (if anything goes wrong just double-click on desktop icon and registry will revert back), and navigate HKEYS_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/and delete Grisoft folder. Reboot and follow same procedure for McAfee. Reboot then install McAfee.

Hello This all started randomly last night out of nowhere. Last night, McAfee popped up with an error that everything shut down (virus/spyware protection, SystemGuard, script scanning, email/IM scanning). I wasn't doing anything when this happened except playing a very old game and downloading a torrent. It's possible the torrent could have been malware, but I'm not sure; it hadn't finished downloading. I did a Kaspersky scan that turned up nothing, and McAfee turned off again in the middle of it. Shut my computer off for the night, turned it on again this afternoon... McAfee, again, had turned off all protection upon startup. In my processes there was three unusual programs running: dumprep.exe, dwwin.exe, imapi.exe. Decided I should probably get some help with this before it possibly turns worse.

Thanks!

Hi - first time on this forum. Very happy to have stumbled upon it!

Anyway, I just got a new pc and I'm migrating everything from the old pc. I'm encountering a problem trying to reinstall my McAfee Internet Security Suite 7.0 using the original CD onto my new Windows XP Home SP2 edition pc.

The install runs until the "Install Complete" window opens, and when I click the Finish button, I get a screen stating there is an Internet Explorer script error. To be exact:

mcp://E:\Mis\Enu\misins.dll::finish.htm

I've tried the online McAfee (Non) Help Desk, but I'm not paying $60 to speak to a live person. I've installed the latest script package from Microsoft and downloaded a file from McAfee and installed it, but to no avail.

Any suggestions? I will be forever grateful!

Thanks,
Jamie

Hey guys,

I'm running XP on a laptop and recently I have been getting this error message that has mscifapp.exe on top and the body says something to the extent of:

"The instruction at "0x0037342a" referenced memory at "0x00630ac8". The memory could not be "read".

This started to occur when I disabled Spam Killer on McAfee and I installed Endura and Spy Sweeper. It may or may not be related but on Endura under options I was filling out, it would not let me proceed because I had not entered a "Positive Interger". I'm no rook with a computer and I tried manipulating the form as much as possible but I think these problems are over my head.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

----Update-----

I uninstalled Eudora and McAfee Privacy Service, then reinstalled McAfee Privacy Service. The error message still comes up.

A:Error Message - McAfee

Well, I have discovered the source of this problem. In my case, this problem would occur if you have Mcafee Privacy Service version 8 running on your PC and Webroot Spysweeper is turned on. It may also take place if you had Spysweeper on when you installed Mcafee Privacy Service or Mcafee Internet Security 8.0. So I turn on Spysweeper when I actually need to scan for spyware. Otherwise this error message keeps bothering all the time.

Installed McAfee 6 weeks ago. For the second time I have an error message that says "The detection signature file is between 8 and 29 days old."
I spent hours on the phone with tech support and it only got worse. Long story short....I uninstalled /reinstalled as per McAfee directions and problem went away for 1 week! Should I junk this program? I'm very frustrated! When I do a Google search, it seems this problem has been around for years. I suspect that my AOL may be contributing as it seems to interfere with everything.
I'm really not very tech savvy, so please help with terms for dummies.

Hi. . .

1. If the error read:

I/O error accessing boot sector file
Multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\\BOOTSS
Back to the top

This error usually occurs when you attempt to boot into the non-XP OS.

Your pc uses the "bootsect.dos" (although error indicated an incorrect BOOTSS file) during boot-up for the non-XP operating system. bootsect.dos is a hidden, read-only file and if it becomes corrupted or is missing from the root drive, this error occurs. You can search for this hidden file in the c:\ root. If found it should be delted as it is probably corrupted. It will need to be re-created or restored from a recent backup.

The following Microsoft Knowledge Base article describes this error in greater detail:

Microsoft Knowledge Base #154733 - Error accessing Boot Sector File - \\BOOTSS

The following Microsoft Knowledge Base article describes the re-creation of bootsect.dos as specified in the above KB154733:

Microsoft Knowledge Base #101789 - Reconstructing "bootsect.dos" - Win NT 4.0

Hi, I'm having trouble with the HP dv1000 laptop... it has XP and I think the most current service pack (2, 4, i dunno... ). Let me preface this entire post by admitting: I have a *ton* of music on my computer, probably between 3,500-4,000 songs.... however, these songs were on my computer for practically a YEAR before my computer decided to turn into a tortoise. I thought maybe it was due to spyware, so I went right over to CompUSA and had the sales associate pick out a virus/spyware program for me... he picked out McAfee. Not only did it NOT cleanup anything, but the darn thing messed with my firewall settings, but it also messed with my ip address and finally left me 1) without internet access, and 2) a "winsock error" (according to the HP rep I talked to). So, she gives me the number to McAfee, and they try to charge me $2.95 PER MINUTE to talk to a rep, but they cannot estimate or approximate how long the call will take. So, I did my own research and downloaded some Winsock_FixXP program, and they I updated all my drivers / reinstalled all my XP restore disks and whatnot. Low and behold, my computer and internet are working. Correction: working *very* slowly. Literally, when I double click on my Internet Explorer icon, it takes at least 3 minutes for the window to appear! I have done the disk cleanup and defragmenter.... but I have yet to reinstall McAfee for fear that it will mess up my computer AGAIN....... any ideas???

You'll have to repair IE in order to fix it.If Firefox is slow also, then it's likely that the basic settings for your network are hosed (or that Windows has been corrupted).Try creating a new connection and see if that works.

I subscribed to McAfee Clinic a few weeks ago and with it you have to install Active Shield. It worked great until the first time I was notified of an update. When I went to update it a window popped up saying that there was an error in it or that it was installed improperly. So I uninstalled it and downloaded it again. This has been done several times -- uninstalling and downloading -- but each time the same window pops up. I have sent two e-mails to McAfee and have had no response from them.

Can anyone help with this problem? If not, I guess it's back to InoculateIt.

TIA,
TXRosebud

A:McAfee Active Shield error

I'll be honest with you. I really don't like or suggest McAfee to anyone. You may also find now that it's a pain in the butt to uninstall. If you want a good reliable AV then I highly suggest <a href=http://www.antivirus.com/pc-cillin/> PC-Cillin</a> by TrendMicro. It's easy to use and keep updated. McAfee AV if it's not causing problems now will definitely cause you problems down the road. It's real junk and McAfee is well known for bad updates that cause your PC to freeze and/or crash.

Hello friends,

I'm not a computer girl and I have no idea what I am supposed to do here. I've downloaded Mcafee on my home office computer with no issues. Now I am attempting to download it to my laptop and get debugging errors. (See! I don't even know what THAT means!)

I see that there is another question EXACTLY like mine, but I didn't know if I should follow that recommendation or not. Here is the situation.

I'm using Windows XP. I'm trying to download Mcafee; I'm in Mcafee Download Manager and "Just in Time Debugging" keeps popping up wanting to use Microsoft Script Editor. I'm not even sure what it is, but it won't let me exit and if I do it pops up again, and I can't "ignore" or "continue," only "break." I got it to stop and held my breath but it stopped again.

Then it said,

"An error has occured [76556]. Please try running the download manager again."

Help?!?!? I am using Mcafee cuz it just seemed easier for a non-computer-brain!!! Thank you!

I hope someone can help with this issue it's driving me nuts. A family members Laptop (Toshiba Satellite - Running Vista)
has a problem on startup with what looks like a bad Uninstall.

When started & reaching desktop after logging on they get a Error pop up saying Mcfee Security Center (The Standard RED CIRCLE WITH WHITE X) & the wording - Application Resources could not be loaded successfully. Please Rienstall McAFee Security Center.

The McFee Logo is shown on the taskbar when this message is open also.

To say it's causing an annoyance would be an understatement. I have used several programs tring to find a Start Up thread, but can find no link to McAFee unless it's hidden.

There are remnants of the program in C/program files/McAfee. I have tried to delete these but cannot.

There is also a link (Icon) in the welcome center window on start up offering 30 days free McAfee protection, could this be causing an issue. After shutting down the error pop up, the computer does not always load The Welcome Centre either (which the family member is annoyed about).

They said there was a problem when they tried to uninstalled it (it froze midway by the sound of it, something caused a problem when doing it, may have been a power dip).

If there is anyway I can stop this pop up at start up I would be most gratefull.

Hi everyone,

About 3 weeks ago I noticed my Inspiron 6000 slows down considerably about a 1/2 hour after booting up. Around the same time I started getting a windows pop-up every time I rebooted, saying "Windows cannot find 'c:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\agent\mcupdmgr.exe Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again".

The things is I had deleted McAfee a long time ago. I contacted both Dell and McAfee tech support. They had me delete all remaining McAfee programs from various caches. I also went under MSCONGIF and unchecked an "oasclnt" entry for McAfee in startup menu, but every time I restart windows, the entry comes back!

Is the slowdown related to the McAfee issue? I would really appreciate any insights on this. TIA

I'm a beginner at this stuff so bear with me as I try to explain what's happening. I am trying to install Napster. Everytime I do the install I get a registry error and the message to try installing again. I've done this so many times I can't tell you!

I thought I'd try Registry Mechanic to see if I could find out what the error was. I do the scan, and there's always one error that can't be repaired.
c:\windows\installer\{ac76ba86-7ad7-1033-7b44-a81000000003}\sequencefile.ico

I also have problems with McAfee. I can't get it to work since I switched to Firefox. Could this switch from IE have anything to do with both these problems? If so, what do I do to go back to IE. I switched to Firefox because IE kept opening multiple browser windows... 20,30, and more in rapid succession. I though if I got rid of it I wouldn't have the problem.

I suspect that my problems are being compounded by my lack of knowledge and continued attempts to "fix" things.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Pat

A:registry error and also McAfee problem

Multiple browser windows opening rapidly is symptomatic of more widespread problems than those associated just with I.E. Spyware and adware come to mind even if those windows are not loading up with anything. Its also possible to mung the registry quite easily as well so without looking its hard to tell.

If you feel like doing some troubleshooting, use or create and use a new user account and just note the behaviour of programs and the operating system when you use the computer from that account. This will give you an idea of how many problems are related to your old account and how many are system wide.

Hi guys, been scanning these forums and you all seem like a top bunch, so I come to you in desperation!

For the last few weeks, I have been getting fatal flaws occuring on my system. When I reboot, Microsoft tells me its the result of McAfee firewall.

Now I dont use this anymore, so I went to uninstall it and I get the usual cannot unistall blah blah install.log is corrupt or something.

So anyway I decided to hell with this and scoured the net for programs dedicated to this issue, including the covetted Unlocker. I have tried umpteen programs to no avail, every one of them is telling me that it is unable to help, and every hour or so my system shuts itself down with a fatal error.

The situation is getting concerning since I have a dissertation to write very soon and if im halfway through a chunk of text I'll risk losing it.

Now Im not amazing with PCs as you can probably tell from this post, i dont have all the info at hand since im using a works pc to type this up, so i couldnt tell you the error codes etc etc.

Off the top of your head can anyone suggest a solution. All help and responses would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Have you tried uninstalling the program in safe mode? You could also try the mcafee uninstaller.

Hello,

I have Windows XP with Mcafee virus protection and Firewall. The virus software fails to update because it can not connect to the Mcafee site. I use windows explorer 8 and can access all sites except Mcafee. Do I have a virus or malware? Need help to remove. I contacted Mcafee and they had me download their Stinger tool, but that did not find any virus.

Thanks.

this is quite a long story so thanks for reading it.

hi, i need some help with some issues ive been having over the last couple of days. im going to explain everything, some parts may be irrelevant but i dont want to leave anything out.

On the 29th of september whilst on a website java 6 popped up as if to install then disappeared. my mcafee notified me it had removed a trojan ,after that it kept popping up to tell me it had removed a trojan and i continued viewing the site, i pressed stop notifying me presuming it would continue to remove trojans. later i tried to start a game i have, called minecraft, an error popped up saying couldnt start java virtual machine(maybe this isnt that relevant and could be an entirely different problem but it happened after the trojan incident and was working fine before).
i decided to restart hoping all would be well but when i shutdown windows notified me i had updates to install, i said ok. instead of saying "windows is installing update 1 of 5" etc, it just said windows is shutting down and froze. i forced a shutdown by holding the power button and when i restarted my start bar and icons where missing.

i started again in safe mode and tried restoring my pc to earlier that day and restarted again. the icons where not there nor the startbar and task manager was "disabled by my administrator" i went back to safe mode and ran superantispyware which found some horrible things like "disabletaskmanger" some trackin... I just had some terrific help from TSG and cleaned up my HiJackThis log, and ugh, I just found another problem with my PC.

When I try to go to www.mcafee.com or http://us.mcafee.com/root/redirects/support.asp?affid=332-05 (this is the Mcafee 'Support' button link), I receive the IE error message that the page cannot be found.

Looking into this further, when I start up the PC, the McAfee logo color is red, the McAfee security splash appears listing the active services, and then a moment later, the McAfee start up logo color changes to black, and is disabled.

I've run McAfee Update, but I don't think it's been updating successfully because the security index indicates that its detecting an older version.

I searched the TSG forums and wasn't able to find a solution...

Some back story which may be pertinent - I had NAV installed and it got corrupted, symptoms included disabled virus scan at start up. The PC was not able to connect to the internet at all. I took the laptop to a tech shop last week, and they were not able to reinstall NAV successfully. They installed McAfee instead.

I'm running on Windows 2000 SP4, IE v6, McAfee VirusScan 2004 v8. I'm also running ZoneAlarm with the privacy option disabled, and have run the comprehensive Ad-Aware scan.

Any help would be most appreciated!
Jackie

Hi,

I've had several occasions when my McAfee says that the e-mail I've just sent can't be sent, but it still appears in the Outlook 2003 Sent Items folder. **Have these e-mails really gone?** This is not something I can test with a message to myself as I never know when it's going to occur...

(I've now configured McAfee not to scan outgoing messages).

I sent a very important e-mail today and got the McAfee protocol error message again. I can't write to say "Did you get my mail?" as I was submitting a song for a project in the States, and it would look really bad if I e-mailed them with that message? I mean, that's *really* NOT good business, is it? See my position?

What I'm asking is: When messages appear in the Sent Items folder, have they really gone? Hoping someone can help...

Thanks,

John.

McAfee is a pain in the a**.i used to use nsw until i started reading these tech support guy forums.i have 8 computers hooked to my dsl and started with the older desktops using avg free.as i started seeing how good avg is 1 by 1 i dumped nsw and now use avg on all my pcs.it does a great job.the computers are much faster than with nsw.i donate every year to tsg and as soon as i go back to work i am going to donate to avg.my son just bought a new dell xps laptop which had 90 days of McAfee for free and the first thing he did was remove it and install avg.it is a great anti-virus program and does not suck up resources like some of the well known programs.

I have tried to run Super Anti Spyware and it will go for awhile and crash. I can turn McAfee on but it turns the real time scanning off. I ran SDFix in Safe mode but when I return to normal windows it will freeze as SDFix tries to fix. I believe I have an error in the System files as it loads in the beginning of computer start up. I though I had fixed a problem in December but something else is added or it came back.
I have a good understanding of computer maleware/spyware removal as I have been taking care of our home computers since we have owned them. I know how to reg edit and can ususally find a fix to take care of our computer issues. I do have hijack this and Malwarebytes and have tried to use both of those to help me.
hijack logs said McAfee had a bunch of files missing.
Malwarebytes found Trojan.Packer.Gen and this time Trojan. Agent
Tried to run/install Ad_Aware but it said it was missing MS Vision C++ 9.0
SDFIx noted apps\process and several files missing

I apologize if this is too much information. The computer has been off and on the network & turned on and off and restarted numerous times. I have been working on this problem for about 2 week off and on. At least this time I was able to get the logs for you and get this emailo send. I hope
Thank you in advance for your assistance

Hi,

I used to subscribe to BT Internet with their free Norton Internet Security. Recently I changed my Broadband subscription to Sky which comes with free McAfee Security for 12 months.

Initially I had alot of issues with removing Norton and in the end used the Symantec Norton removal tool to clear it from my PC to permit me to install McAfee.

I have installed McAfee but the Security Centre shows Action Required on Computer and Files Security. There is a Fix Now button available but when I try this I receive the error: One or more problems cannot be fixed because of an error. The problems are listed as: Real-time scanning is disabled and Spyware and potentially unwanted program scanning is disabled.

The HELP page says to do this manually using the configure button - unfortunately this is not available on screen.

I read a thread online about checking the services are running via services.msc they are!

THe McAfee help centre said to uninstall and reinstall McAfee I did that too but same problem.

The next thread I read was for this forum and so I have followed the instructions and attached the files the text from the DDS is below, grateful for any advise I am close to the point of removing altogether and installing AVG instead.

Our computer was affected by the McAfee error last month, then we aquired the AKM antivirus pro 2010. Have been unable to follow through with downloads since the svhost is not working. Recently I turned it on to try to save data, and all I can get is the Dell page which looks like it is slashed through the letters.
Cannot start in safe mode, and keyboard is not operational. Have tried to reinstall windows XP but cannot get on boot page, or any other page other than the Dell start page.
Any ideas? or is it time to throw it away?

McAfee Virus Scan installed on Dell desktop running XP Home Edition. When attempting to schedule weekly scan get script error "Data area passed to a system call is too small". McAfee FAQs indicate it is a recognized Microsoft issue and that user should contact Microsoft for a patch. I tried that to no avail.

I deleted a few tasks that appeared to be duplicates from the Task Scheduler and rebooted, and the problem still exists.

Any suggestions?

Hi, Do you have SpyBot Search and Destroy installed? I've fixed a problem with McAfee Security suites with SpyBot- a Redirected Hosts file entry was the problem.

The problem I saw would not allow a connection to the McAfee update/sign in page where you register and log in to get updates. Without logging in, the suite would not run, and the updates of course are needed. Can you get to the Update site and connect there?

SpyBot S&D is free, and here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/SpyBot-Search_&_Destroy_d2471.html

One other good program, a free trial version, is AVG Antispyware, which is not AVG Antivirus, so it should not conflict with McAfee that I know of. You could temporarily turn off protection in McAfee to run any other app as you probably are aware.

AVG Antispyware is also at the Majorgeeks portal> http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads31.html

I have installed McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise 8.5.0i with installed patches 7 on my PC (Windows Vista Home Premium SP2).
The virus scan is successfully installed on the machine and works fine (After installation I had to update windows defender as well because there was a warning from security centre coming).

The only problem is whenever I shutdown/restart/logoff my home PC it gives a message "explorer.exe Application error. The memory at..... could not be referenced...." and I have to press ok button to complete the operation.

It is cause of great annoyance. Any help is highly appreciated. I have run sfc /scannow, everything seems to work ok. If I unstall Virus Scan it is fine but I want to keep it as I have only this McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise as a good antivirus software. I hope other members in this forum would help me in resolving this issue
