# xp freezes up constantly.

Q: xp freezes up constantly.

Hi,
Here are my gmer and dds logs. Before you read the logs, here are a few details you might find helpful.

1) 3 days ago the computer began to run as slow as molasses and would freeze up a lot, forcing me to constantly restart.

2)Whenever I restarted, checkdisk would run, saying my disc weren't "consistent".

3)Yesterday the computer became almost unusable. I figured I had nothing to lose,to I decided to reinstall my OS. The computer wouldn't allow a repair install, so I did a full install instead. That's why you see so many programs added and deleted from computer today (4/30).Reinstalling the OS has made no difference.

4) I cannot run the computer in Safe Mode with Networking. When I try to do this, I see a page of System32Drivers.

5) When I check BIOS, it said SMART status is ok, when both BIOS tests failed.

6) Malwarebytes found nothing. AVG found one virus.

7) When I tried fixmbr, it said "The old master boot record cannot be read".

I've run Malware for the entire system and found no problems. I've cleaned the registry, run CCleaner regularly and use Shadow Defender when online. I ran a scan with malwarebytes, and it found a bad registry on my computer. I choose to remove the registry, but the computer still freezes. So as of right now, I get no pops or error messages. Previously, my firefox version was 33.0 and I've started to get some hanging and unresponsive script when I'm playing facebook games. So far it mostly happens whenever I play a game involving steam - the two games that have frozen on me are counterstrike 1.6, and a game from steam called peggle. I noticed that it was running incredibly slowly, and would not let me open more than 1 folder for instance. Also when i oppened a folder occasionally it would not load the contents but display a windows logo at the top of the folder. I thought it a bit weird and thought it was probably a memory problem. I rebooted and after about 1 minute it totaly froze. Mouse pointer, keyboard all froze. I wasnt sure about the rest of the computer. But for the first minute after the desktop was displayed i could do what i wanted, if i was quick eneugh. I force turned it off and booted it up again. It still froze after 1 minute and i booted it up again. This time i hit control alt delete and watched the memory and proccessor. I've tried setting to Disabled/off the power options with High performance profile to no avail, also read somewhere that Deamon Tools could cause this so I unninstalled it and deleted the sptd.sys file with the DuplexSecure tool, still the freezes appear randomly. It started freezing shortly after I would reboot. Both the keyboard and mouse wouldn't respond.It had been a while since I reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled Windows, so I decided to try that. The weird part is, the computer actually freezes up during the reinstall process. It gets to 33 minutes of the reinstall of Windows XP and then asks me to set the Regional Settings. When I try to move the mouse to click Next, the mouse doesn't move. If I try to just press Enter to click Next, nothing happens. Not sure what could be causing this. Even though you have done this, Take the side off the of the computer and blow out all fans with a can of compressed air. Start the computer and make sure all fans are spinning. Look at the label for the PSU and report the Make, Model# and Wattage. Boot into Setup (Bios) and go to PC Health or some such, Post +12V line for the PSU and the temperatures. Second, my problem: Over the past couple months, I've noticed that my Media Center will freeze when I'm trying to watch a program. I'll get about 75% of the way through the show when the entire MC will lock up on me. The computer itself is fine as I'll be able to shut down Media Center via the task manager. It just really grinds my gears because I'll be in the middle of a show and I can't finish watching. If I restart Media Center and attempt to fast forward to the point where the program locked up, it'll just lock up again. I recently updated all drivers for everything on the pc (except my benQ dvd cd drive, these i cannot find) i also downloaded and reflashed new bios for mobo. I first opened Task Managaer to see what was using up the cpu and it appeared to be services.exe. I ran an anti-virus scan and it found a trojan which was disinfected. I then searched for the file name services.exe and it found several, i was advised to keep the one in system 32 and delete the rest, which i did. However the computer still freezes after logging on and i have to enter safe mode to allow me to use the computer. I downloaded the catalyst software for the driver and still this problem occurs only difference is that the VPU Recoverer will stop the game and tell me there was a problem with the graphics card not taking commands from the driver so it forced a reset of the card. Do you have Word XP available to you anywhere? It's "recovery" is better than prior versions, and it just might clear up the problem. Sorry...never heard of Endnote. I looked around the 'net and found lots of potential solutions, and seemed to have it all taken care of after various scans with Malwarebytes and other software. However in the last few days the computer frequently freezes up, and it doesn't seem to happen during a certain activity or anything like that-just at random. I don't know if it's related. I've continued to run many scans, and sometimes they come up with nothing, and other times they will find problems and fix them, which makes me think new malware (or something bad...) keeps getting frequently added to the computer. Oddly, while I'm running scans and things like that, I don't believe it's ever frozen. But when the computer is really in use, that is when the problems arise. It froze probably 4 or 5 times yesterday in a fairly short amount of time being used. Also, if this information helps any, when it freezes, I still have usage of the mouse, as far as movement. What's been going on is that my computer freezes, makes a jarring sound when it does, and will stay this way for anywhere between thirty seconds and ten or so minutes. Couple of Q's if you don't mind; Where is the sound coming from; the PC, or speakers do you think? The virtual drive; Is there an ISO attached to it constantly? GCP (I find) is to disabling any virtual drives you're not actively using. Wouldn't hurt to check your NVidia drivers up to date also - You can do this by right-clicking anywhere on your desktop, select 'NVidia Control Panel', 'Help', 'System Info' and let me know the installed driver version. My first guess is a video driver and software clash.  Be ready to run MiniToolBox, have the log file ready for the BC techs, they will advise how to publish it.

I own an Acer Aspire 7551G Laptop.
Specs are:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (Pre-Installed on Laptop at purchase)
Processor: AMD Phenom (tm) II N830 Triple-Core Processor 2.10 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
HDD: 500GB (142GB free)
Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650

Since purchase, every 2-10 minutes the laptop will freeze for 2-4 minutes during which in some instances I'll be able to move around with the mouse and switch tabs in chrome, but not much else, and in other cases it will be a complete freeze.
It's driven me to complete exasperation, please could somebody help me out?

* Have you ever had a BSOD?

* Your problem may be caused by many things > RAM problems >graphics drivers > overclocking > heat issues > using more than one AntiVirus at the same time > etc etc.
