Icloud installer - windows installer does not have the administrator privilegies

Q: Icloud installer - windows installer does not have the administrator privilegies

Hello I'm David,
I'm new in the forum. As the title says, I have some problem  installing the icloud control panel in windows. At the end of the installation, the installer says that it has not the administrator privilegies to write in C:\ProgramData\microsoft\windos\Startmenu\programs\icloud.
I tried to used (in this sequence):
1- Malwarebytes anti malware
2-adwcleaner
3-JRT
4-OTL
In the following i'm posting the log of the programs (Hijackthis file included)
Can you help me in find what it is the problem?

Regards

P.S.
I opened everything as administrator not always the anti malware program even the icloud setup.

Logged on a Windows 2000 SP4 workstation as Administrator (either domain or local) I get the following error message when initiating setup of the MS Windows Installer 3.0 (or 3.1):

Setup Error:
You do not have permission to update Windows 2000. Pls contact your system administrator.

Downloaded from MS site: WindowsInstaller-KB884016-v2-x86.exe
MS documentation indicates that it is supported by Windows 2000 sp4.

Can anyone help?
Thanks in advanced.

Logging in as Administrator in a domain does not necessarily mean that you have permissions to install software.

every time me or my wife logs into our accounts on windows we receive a pop up for windows installer and sonic decoder. they cannot be canceled unless I open the task manager and manually stop them I cant think of any changes I have made to msconfig or my registry that would cause this. I checked the event viewer log to see if there was any additional info but none was available. Any suggestions anyone?

My system also seems to be running very sluggishly way slower than normal, I ran a spyware scan Vundo fix and I am currently running a complete antivirus scan just to be safe even though I dont feel that this is malware/virus related.

A:windows installer/sonic decoder installer

so an update to this one....my computer is acting all sorts of weird now and programs are showing up that I deleted long ago....also when I view the audit in event viewer it shows a very large amount of registry errors. I am not familiar with the process to repair a corrupted registry . Is there anyone that could lend me some suggestions or guide me on the right path?

I know I have windows installer installed, as Flashplayer and adobe installed it. Is it harmful, my brother is raising a lot of heck about it. I read the other old forum logs for windows installer and it does not see to be a problem. He also said that he has a program from windows called Trusted Installer. Checked back forum logs, nothing on trusted installer. I ran a search of my computer with no results. He said it stopped him from downloading SAS. He did a clean install and now it downloads and he cannot find no trusted installer on it. Is there such a thing as a trusted installer? Its only supposed to be in vista as he says. Curious about it as I cannot find nothing on my computer for trusted installer, windows installer yes, other NO.

Before I explain my problem, I'd like to say that this seems to be a registry problem.
I tried installing Taksi three days ago and got this message

"The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation."
and it didn't really bother me, checking out different software is a hobby of mine, it's not like I actually I needed it. I thought it was the developer's fault. But anyways, now I realize can't install anything that is packaged as an msi. I'm an administrator on my computer, but not the root, sadly. (I received the computer as a gift from someone who had no use for the computer and had forgotten their password.) First, I installed Windows Installer 3.1 over my current installation to no avail. After awhile, I found this: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q227181

When I go to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\ folder, the 'Installer' folder is nowhere to be found, all I see is the 'SystemCertificates' folder, and there's nothing pertaining to Windows Installer, or anything, in the folders below it.. Something weird happened when I rebooted after I installed 83 long-overdue updates. And it is probably responsible for all this. I'm willing to author new Registry data if someone could show me what their working installation looks like.

A:Solved: Windows Installer problem The system administrator has set policies to prevent...

If you are an administrator, you can access the other administrators' accounts and change their passwords, or even delete the accounts.

If you are an administrator, you can give yourself permission to install programs.

There is no "root". All administrators are created equal, except domain administrators; they are superior beings.

Hello all. I really need your help. I've tried to open a downloaded file - TinyWallInstaller.msi - , but without success. I've learned that Windows blocks opening this and many other file extension types because it rates them as "high risk" or "invalid" with the pop-up : " Publisher Could Not Be Verified". I also came across a simple tutorial that does unblock this, but it doesn't apply to Vista Home Prem. - my O.S. So, that said, I'm looking for a good workaround that will enable me to unblock and open this neat firewall program. My experience is somewhat limited - would hope to avoid command prompt and registry editing if possible. However, at this point I'm willing to try just about anything! Please help!!!

My computer has only one account and it's an administrator account. I have UAC disabled.

If I want to install something, I must run it as administrator or it pops a window says "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run..."

I did some research, some say that should add administrator right to TEMP folder which I already have.

Any solution to this?

Hi All,

I need some help because the "Windows Installer" window pop-ups occurred whenever I opened XP Pro. This happened I presume after a failed Adobe 8 installation. This also happens when I open other programs. I have reinstalled the "Windows Installer" from Microsoft but I can still see some quick flashes of these Windows Installer windows before any programs load. However none of these pop-up stays when the program starts. How do I disable this? Thanks. I'm totally lost.

Ok, originally I had my two hard drives striped. I was having problems so i unstriped them and reinstalled windows on one of the drives. Now it seems that windows installer is not working correctly because I get an error saying that windows installer could not be accessed because I was either running in safe mode or it was not installed properly when I try to install certain software such as Office XP or Photoshop. Well I knew I wasn't running in safe mode so I guess that narrows it down to it not being installed correctly. After trying a few things I repaired the windows installation which did not fix the problem so I reformatted and reinstalled without any progress. Any leads would be much appreciated cause I am out of ideas.

Hi All,

I have a Compaq in the office running Win2K that's giving me some problems. The woman who works at the computer told me she kept getting Windows Installer errors whenever she tried to get into any of the Office XP programs. I went over and sure enough, every time I tried to open something Office related, Windows Installer attempted to start, but couldn't and then a notice came up saying Windows Installer couldn't start and to contact personnel support to make sure it's registered. After I clicked OK, an error came up saying that it was unable to run the command. I opened up Adobe Acrobate with no problems, but Internet Explorer freaked and flashed web site found, contacting site and loading the IP address back and forth. I rebooted the machine and got a paging file is either missing or low error, I went in and upped the virtual memory size, but that didn't help either, it still gives that error.

I tried going into Add/Remove Programs to see what was in there, but it won't open. I checked the computer event log and I saw the errors with Windows Installer and it said it failed because access is denied, yet I was logged in as administrator. I tried working in Safe Mode, to no avail. Has anybody ever encountered this? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,

I have a problem which I think is down to the installer but am not sure, I`m running windows 7 64bit sp1. This is not the first time it has happened but I did think it was down to the game I was installing.

When I install a game the install starts off and all seems well but at the point of it saying "updating component registration" my hard drive light go`s solid on and the installer seems to stop but if left the game will install and in x amount of time the install will jump to the install bar and it will be say half way up but on crysis it stops for ages and I can`t figure out if it`s installing correctly. Any ideas???

Hi,

This is usually quite a straightforward problem to fix. There are many things that we can do to try and fix this issue, so don't worry yet. First, we will try a really simple solution that solves this problem about 90% of the time.

Press the Windows key and R to open the Run dialogue.Type "cmd" and press enter.Once Command Prompt has opened, type "msiexec /regserver" and press enter.
Does this fix your problem?

Hi

I have had to download an update from my ISP and and managed to save it to my hard-drive. However when trying to install the update the setup stalls at a point where Windows Installer is supposed to open ie launching Windows Installer. The setup freezes at this point.

I have been in contact with my ISP and they report no fault with the download. I have tried to install the update with only limited programs running in the background without success.

I have managed to install this update on my separate Laptop without a problem. This runs Windows 98

Can anyone suggest what might be going wrong.

I have Windows ME running. with plenty of spare capacity and 256 Ram

Did you go through Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs or did you just delete the program folder?

If you deleted the program folder (example C:\JavaSoft) it's very possible and likely that other remnants are left behind. Deleting the program folder does NOT delete or uninstall the program. The new download currently won't work because it is still seeing the old components and assumes the program is already installed.

Try Add/Remove Programs and look for "Java" and delete any versions. Then go back to the Sun website and redownload it.

I received a notice of CNET having a new service of providing update service for various applications. While looking it over, I saw that Trend HJT was on the list. So, I decided to first install Trend HJT. After installing it I ran a scan and saved it. While trying to do an update with the CNET TechTracker, my McAfee told me it had got a virus and deleted it. It was "Artemis!E22CD98352B8 (Trojan). Because it said it removed it, I didn't give it much more thought.

Then I noticed later that I started having a problem. Everytime I right click my mouse on "Start" when trying to use explorer, or when right clicking on any application, I would get the popup box saying "windows installer...preparing to install". The popup would go away and I could continue OK.
Since then I have run HJT a couple of times and I notice that the entry "O22" is missing. It was on the HJT before I had the problem appear.

The problem the system has is that an instalation of a program has lost something important and so installer tries to fix it for you without your permission. If you go to control panel, under administrative tools, click event viewer and look for errors at the time this happens. It will hopefull give you a name of a progam that is causing the problem.

A reinstall should fix this problem.

I can't install windows installer from the Win update site. I get the Error Code: 0x80070005. I am trying to install 893803 (v2) as selected by win update. It will start installing then quit about 3/4s way through. I also get these messages...KB893803 v2 Setup Access is denied. And...KB893803 v2 setup installation did not complete.

I have win xp home sp2. I recently reinstalled the OS and am trying to update it.

No matter what I click on, be it an email, IE, a program, EVERYTHING, some stupid window pops up that says Windows Installer...and it says 'installing'. It sits there for a few minutes, then goes away. I have no idea WHAT it is trying to install or WHY it is doing this, but it takes me about 20 minutes to read about 5 emails at this rate.

Suggestions please. I did do a system restore for about a week ago. Same thing. Oh, and now the picture that I had on my desktop is gone.

I did run a McAfee scan...came up clean.

Thanks so much

Hi everyone,
I've posted this before but have not gotten a clear answer. I wan't to create a Windows 7 installation disk that does not have ANY of my old files on it. I'm going to install Windows 7 on another computer other than mine. (And yes I have another license key) Is there any part on my hard drive that contains just the installation files? Any help would be great.

OEM version ( the OS pre-installed in the computer when you bought the computer ) cannot be installed to another machine. It lives and dies with the same computer it is installed.

The ONLY way you can install an OS to another computer is if you have a RETAIL version of the OS.
( Retail version comes in a box with an Installation disc and a product key )
Even then, you can NOT install the same disc in multiple machines... one machine at a time.

Example .......
Computer A dies, you can then use the same disc and install it to computer B.
You cannot install the disc to computer B if computer A is still running.

Hi, recently my computer's been having some trouble with Windows Installer popping up and disappearing when I open a certain program. The program is called BlitzMail and everything was fine until yesterday. Everytime I run this program, "Windows Installer - Preparing To Install" pops up about 5 ~ 7 consecutive times then disappears without doing anything. When this pops up, my floppy drive flashes as if the computer's reading it (there's no disc inside). Once the popping up/disappearing stops, the BlitzMail program works perfectly fine. I can probaly leave it as it is since the program still works but it's really annoying so if someone can please help me with this, it'd be extremely appreciated. Thanks!

A:Windows Installer Pop Up. Please Help!

According to this article from http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article08-103 there are 2 solutions to this problem. Here they are:

Solution #1:

Reinstall the application in question, and don't choose the This feature will be installed when required for any of the optional components.
However, this may not solve the problem (which is the very bug we're talking about). We're currently looking for a way to fix the problem properly, but in the mean time, here's how to turn off the "feature:"

Solution #2

Open the Group Policy Editor by selecting Run from the Start Menu, and typing gpedit.msc. (If the file is missing, run mmc.exe instead. Then, select Add/Remove Snap-in from the Console menu, click Add, and double-click Group Policy. Click Finish, then Close, then Ok.)
Expand the following branches:
Local Computer Policy \ Computer Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Windows Components \ Windows Installer
Double-click Disable Windows Installer to your right, click Enabled, and choose Always from the list. Click Ok when you're done.
The change will take effect immediately. If you added a snap in, as described above, you don't need to "save changes to the console."

Note: If you encounter an error about the Administrator Policy the next time you try to install an application, you'll have to re-enable the Windows Installer temporarily.
Solution #3 (for Office 2000 only):

Run the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE).

ettevy,

Welcome to TSG!

I would first confirm that the Windows Installer Service is running.

Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services and scroll down to Windows Installer.

The Startup Type for this service should indicate either Manual or Automatic. If it is not, double-click Windows Installer and set the Startup Type to Manual, then restart Windows.

If it is already set to Manual or Automatic, or if you still get the same error after rebooting Windows, see the link below for a possible solution.

When I log on and the desktop comes up, a message box appears saying Windows installer, installing. But it doesn't say what is being installed and it goes off the screen after a few seconds. Then about 5 minutes later a message box comes up saying: Error loading C:\program files\common files pareto logic the specified module could not be found. I click on OK and it disappears.

What is this? It doesn't seem to be affecting anything so should I get rid of it? If so how do I do that?

A:Windows installer

Apparently you have aquired something from ParetoLogic software that is trying to launch/install during startup.

Go to the Contro Panel
Open Add/Remove
See if you can find something with "Pareto" in the name.
If you do, & it's something you didn't install intenyionally, remove it.

This is a question re the windows installer. Is there like a dll or master msi that other installers interact with?My problem is trying to install Painter9 & after the windows installer configures,I am told to remove another version of Painter. There is NO other version installed on the system, the registry or anywhere I can find.
Any ideas??

Did there used to be another copy of Painter on the system? If so, it's probably a registry entry or file that wasn't deleted when it was uninstalled. Some firms use this as a way to prevent unauthorized use of their software.

I just wanted to know what Windows installer is & how can i repair it? Please i must download SmartFTP & i dont understand how i can do that now...

Pliz help, Thank U so much!

The easiest first thing to try is to install the latest update for the Windows Installer:

Windows Installer 4.5

If the problem is with the installer, that should fix it. If the problem is with the SmartFTP program, then you need to contact them.

But there are all kinds of free FTP programs. BlazeFTP is a very good, free one that I have used for years.

I used to get this for Word. First off, search your drive for the main exes (excel.exe, winword.exe), you may find there's more than one of each. Run any you find to see if any will *not* attempt to install. If successful, redirect your shortcuts to the paths for those.

Hi PhilR714,

Try this...

Place you XP CD in the cd drive.
Click on the Start button and then click on the Run option.
In the Open field type sfc /scannow and press the OK button.
Follow the prompts through the scan and when it prompts you to reboot, do so.
Test to see if the problem is resolved.

Good luck,

I'm on Windows XP, with SP3 installed about a year ago.

The first sign something was not right was when I got a popup from Windows installer telling me it was preparing to install Roxio Creator. That software was installed on this PC years ago and has been used rarely. After cancelling two or three times, I let it run its course until it wanted the install CD, then cancelled again. Shortly after, Zone Alarm reported that KNLWRAP.EXE was attempting to monitor keystrokes, which of course I told it to block. I found KLNWRAP in a directory under Windows/Installer and deleted it, along with the corresponding file in Prefetch. That didn't end the repeated requests to install Roxio, so I uninstalled Roxio. For a short while, all seemed well.

Then, whatever it is transferred it's attention to MS Office. Now, when I start Excel or Word, I'm getting Windows Installer popups stating it is preparing to install MS Office. I cancel all these until it quits, but it can come back for more, usually following File-Open or File-Save. I REALLY don't want to uninstall Office - I've got a lot of customization that I don't want to have to re-create. For now, I don't think I have KNLWRAP on the PC, so it would appear that letting the Windows proceed is what installs it.

Recently, in boot up, I get the "preparing to install" message box at the blue screen. After about 10 seconds it goes away and windows starts up normally.

An application also recently went sour (Calendar Creator 12) so I wanted to uninstall and re-install, I have the CD. It won't open because it can't find or use one of the .dll's.

When I tried widows add/remove it says it can't uninstall because "another install is currently in progress."

I downloaded msicuu2.exe, but, of course I can't use it because it needs windows installer which won't run.

I'm guessing I won't be able to add any other new software or uninstall any other application as well until this is fixed.

This is all within the past week or so.

Hi,

My windows installer has recently stopped working, I can no longer install or uninstall programs that use this application to do this. The problem came up when trying to reinstall a printer that had stopped working all of a sudden.

It says I have installed service pack 2, but I am not sure if it is working fully. Whenever I try to reinstall Windows Installer i get the error:
"KB893803v2 Setup Error
Setup could not verify the integrity of the file Update.inf. Make sure the cryptographic service is running on this computer"

and the cryptographic service is running. I then tried running "xp_cryptofix.vbs" and I got the error:
"Script: C:\Documents and Settings\Rob\Desktop\xp_cryptofix.vbs
Line: 20
Char: 1
Error: Permission denied
Code: 800A0046
Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error"

Other fixes that I have tried by microsoft haven't worked or one of the steps doesn't work for me. Does anyone know of anyway to fix this problem; I have been without a printer for about 8 months now and I haven't been able to update or install anything.

Thanks ahead of time,

Matt

Hi gotts123, welcome to BC! Other people reporting this problem have been able to solve it by resetting the permissions for the HK_Classes_Root hive of their system Registry. Don't worry, I'll walk you through it.Note: The following includes editing the system registry. You should not tamper with the registry unless you know what you are doing! Improper modification to the registry can easily render a computer inoperative. You should back up your registry/make a System Restore point before making any changes. Now, first thigs first, open the registry editor by clicking on Start then on Run.... In the Run dialogue box, type regedit and click OK.Now, refer to figure 1. Note where the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT folder is. It should be in the same position in your registry.Fig.1Right click on the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT folder and click on Permissions as in Figure 2: Fig. 2This will launch the Permissions Window as seen in Figure 3. Click on Administrators, and make sure that there is a check mark next to Full Control in the Allow column, just like in Fig.3:Fig.3Then click Apply, followed by OK.Reboot and attempt to install Windows Installer again. If any of this is unclear or confusing or you have any questions, please post them.

I can't give any help based on the minimum amount of information you are providing (you didn't even name the program you were trying to install)
That being said my first suggestion is to make sure you have fully updated your copy of windows (to a minimum of service pack 1)
There is nothing that can replace the windows installer service, any such thing would represent a horrible security risk if it did exist.

It's hard to give help based on what I have to work with here though it's quite possible that you have modified the windows services at some point for all I know.

Something I've been pondering over. First off, does a virus or Trojan or any other malware use Windows Installer to install itself on your system? I'm not sure if the program is called Windows Installer or if it is the one called Setup.exe. Nevertheless, I'm under the impression that malware needs to use some sort of utility in your system to get itself in there.

My question is this: If the aforementioned is such, I'm wondering is there a way to be in control of the install utility? A way to keep it from doing anything without my permission. Is there a way I could keep it locked away from the bad-guys using it, and, when I need to legitimately use it (such as updates or program installs), then I can unlock it.

Spyware is removable, but a boot virus usually means game over for your system. I've been bitten enough times to count. It would be nice to be able to stop a virus from getting in by denying it the means or utility to do so. This idea sounds so low tech and simple to me that it would seem to good to be true. Any input welcomed.

Thanks.

WinXP Home SP3, Avast! Home Edition, Windows Defender.

<>I guess that's why...critical updates...a firewall that's operational...a reliable, current AV program...and a couple of decent antimalware programs (e.g., SUPERAntispyware and Malwarebytes) are the foundations of a PC's security posture....along with user responsibility for safe computing practices. If you want to know how various forms of malware get into a system...there's plenty of material covering such, available just by using Google. This material covers trojans, frequenting known sites with malware, etc.Additionally, there's a forum right here which can provide some insights that are more current and factual than anything I could dream up to say.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/25/antivirus-firewall-and-privacy-products-and-protection-methods/In fact, there are several different forums under the Security blanket here...that you may want to visit.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/Louis

I am unable to install MS Windows Installer 3.1. After performing a successful XP repair install, I am now trying to reinstall the Windows updates, hotfixes and patches. The very first application which is needed is the MS Windows Installer 3.1. It merely says that they are unable to install it.

I checked the Local Services Folder and made sure that Automatic Updates, Background Intelligence Transfer Service (BITS), and Event Log were properly configured, which they all were. Still nothing.

I had this problem once before, but don't recall what I did to resolve it.

Any ideas and/or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Everytime I start my internet explorer the windows installer starts up.
I cannot identify what it is trying to install and it takes about 3 minutes to get rid of it.
If you leave that dialogue box open it just sits there and never installs anything.
any suggestions will be appreciated
