HELP please! Windows dont boot no more!

Q: HELP please! Windows dont boot no more!

Hi everyone!
I have a problem! I installed successfully a dual boot of red hat 9 and windows 98 a while back, using phantasms guide, and showed off to my friend. Now i just helped my friend dual boot red hat 9 with windows xp. He can boot linux fine with a boot disk, but when he removes the boot disk to try and load windows, he just gets a letter "L" on the screen, and it freezes!!

thanks a lot people!

A: HELP please! Windows dont boot no more!

Well today I just installed RHL 9 in a dual boot. I installed to a second drive and made it so that it booted from a floppy. Caused no harm to my Windows XP install on the first drive.

I am totally new to the Sevenforum

So I tried to Dual-Boot my preinstalled Windows 7 laptop with Windows XP. I saw a tutorial on How-To-Geek. So I made a 17GB Partition and installed Windows XP on it. after the installation I installed EasyBCD and given an Entry Point to Windows 7. after it the menu shows up with Win 7 And Win XP. But the big and main problem is Windows 7 wont boot but XP boots fine. Even booted to Safe Mode on Windows 7 but it after reading all of those .DLL files it just reboots. Is there any way to get windows 7 to boot while keeping the Windows XP. cause i really need the Windows XP.

So my laptop has this issue thing where when I move it around too much, it decides to shut off windows without any warning / crashes sometimes. So as I carried it downstairs today, it did it again only this time when I started it up.. it gave me the Acer logo and gave me my selected color for the lockscreen (mine being light blue) if you know what I'm talking about. If I press basically any key, it'd flicker black or become black unless I press another key I think and it'd revert to the light blue screen. I tried fixing it in every way. I pressed ESC a bunch of times to load up the InsydeH20 Setup Utility and tried spaming f12 to go to the boot menu but nothing works. My laptop's dead. And this is important if I will get any help or replies, I'm only 14. Me and my dad tried fixing it earlier but again to no avail. If you need photos of my laptop, my screens on the InsydeH20 Setup Utility (Information, Main, Security, Boot, Exit) please ask and I will take some. Also for people who have used this insydeh thing, my boot in the boot tab reads UEFI which I can change to Legacy but if I do and save changes and exit it'll give me a black screen that says:

So its been 4 days of madness but i figured it out !
I tried this on a notebook and it worked, so i think the same will ocuur on a desktop
Guys you need to open your cpu/notebook (if its a notebook be ready for a nightmare jeje check some youtube videos about HOW TO DO IT ! if you dont ever do it, PLEASE WATCH SOME YOUTUBE VIDEOS ! cause you can break some really tiny parts
Now, say you manage to open it, remove the battery (its a clock battery) and then remove the HDD, and RAM (if you got  two modules of them, remove one, switch the other,)
(i dont have to say that you should remove all the things conected right ? (usb drives, etc )
Ok so, the thing works like this : Theres something called UEFI (google it ) you need to change that. in order to do that you need to acces the bios ( BUT THE MACHINE WONT TURN, I KNOW ) that means in order to reset your bios you need to do it the hard way
Once you disamble the parts let it rest for 5-10 min and reasable, TURN ON and .. MAGIC ! your pc is gonna ask you to press f1 to continue or f2 to configure your "new bios" ...
Now, the easy part : you go into the bios and (depending on your bios model ) you go to the "securiy" and select LEGACY mode
This would allow you to boot from a cd/dvd (windows "x" version or boot cd (hirens, rescue disk )

Hope it helps ! Good luck !

I did a system restore and after rebooting I used my usb which contains a media boot tool for windows 8 from the microsoft website. During the start up proceedure I went into custom installation, where you can pick which device to install windows onto. They also give a delete, format, and other options. I decided that I would format my ssd from that option and install windows. (Windows was installed here in the ssd before the system restore) However, during the installation and error occurs where it says I am missing files and windows can't be install.
*Note* I can no longer boot from that ssd anymore, every attempt brings me to a blue screen wit 3 options: Try again, start setup, and go to bios. The first two just refreshes the screen and the third sends me to bios.
What I've tried:
-Installing windows 8 to my HDD, same error.
-Refresh, doesn't work says no changes can be made.
--Reset, can't find partition.
---Advanced Troubleshoot, system repair (automatic) says starting diagnostic, and just restarts back to where I was doing nothing.
----Advanced Troubleshoot, re-image, can't find an image. Gives option to use a network or a driver installed somewhere. Can't use either.
-----Advanced Troubleshoot, UEFI firmware, takes me to my bios where I've tried to switch HDD and boot priorities, messed with things, nothing worked.

Here i am again, complaining about my system..
As my previous topics, this one i think is more serious as i cant boot nor open up advance boot options(f8 dont work). As soon the manufacturers logo show off, an error: "Disk read error. Press ctr+alt+del to resatrt." It remains unless i press shutdown. Power on and it still shows the same.
I havent finished the download of the iso(to be used as a recovery method) thats why i opt for another way which is to recover a backup copy of my registry(which iv done by manually exporting it).  However, i have encrypted it before with my administrative user account. Now, im not able to decrypt it via cipher or keys as if i run: "cipher /c thatfilename.reg" it informs me that only the user(my account) and certificate thumbprint can decrypt it. No found backup certificate or keys. Bad for me i dont know how to recover it via the certificate thumprint....
My last option that i try is use EaseUs Data Recovery Wizard, which i have googled about tools that can decrypt files...
Glad it runs even im only using the recovery console. I installed it on my memory card(as my pc can still detect it). Im new to this tool and still dont know what should i click on for a spedific purpose. But i have tried the partition recovery, since im thinking that maybe it could still detect missing/lost files on the drive by which windows is installed..  It search then rebuild directories for more than 4 hours. remaining time is already at 00:... Since the drive still works you might want to give SpinRite a try.  This isn't free and will probably run for days before it fixes your problems.  I do not see you getting your data back any other way since it is encrypted.  Encryption is great for keeping information private, but I've see a whole lot of data lost due to encryption.  In the end only you can say how much your data is worth.

A:Dont boot

Welcome to TS. Our forum for Guides & Solved Issues is helpful in situations as this one. This forum will help you understand this problem in ways that many here can relate to.

Here is what I think I know. The power supply received the Go signal from the mobo. The fans are running & some LEDs are flashing. You have not called attention to any beeps, meaning the mobo passed the POST.

The only symptom that you have related is No Video. What other symptoms are being presented? Is there no hard drive activity?

No video is a big limitation. Test the monitor with another computer.

More details / symptoms will give everyone better insight into you problem.

Don't boot means many things to different people. In a healthy system, new hardware / software causes grief. In older systems, things just wear out.

Good afternoon. I'm writing about a consistent and common problem I experience both at work and at home.

I work on computers for the military and I've found loopholes and rules around this issue but I still experience the same thing every now and then.

The problem is simply (not to any specific computer or peripherals), that when the computer boots with a flash drive or memory stick from a camera in the computer, that it will not boot. The second it is removed there is no longer an issue. I've tried and tested the problem a few times, and it still persists. I've gotten by with just informing the customers that they should not start the computer up with external data storage devices plugged in. But I'm still curious. This happens on my home computer as well.

I've checked the boot disk priority, Data Storage > CD > Removable media (tried it both enabled as 3rd option, and completely disabled > Nothing.

Anyone have any suggestions?

When I restart i get five or so options; various safe mode options, last known settings, and start normally.

All of these options return me to the BSOD. I have looked around the forums, and many have suggested looking up the error codes, which i have now done.

I couldnt find all of the error codes, and i am now not really sure what to do, and if there is going to be any permanent damage to my hard drive.

Needless to say i have files on the hard drive which i cant lose. Is there any way i can recover these files?

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Thanks guys!

Hi, and welcome to TSF,

Unfortunately at this point it looks like you have some file corruption. Chkdsk might be able to fix some issues.

Do you have a Windows XP CD that you can use? My first step would be to use the recovery console.

Hello Guys,

Here i am posting my first question in this Forum.
The issue i have is, i got TWO BOOT OPTIONS of windows XP professional.
Here how it went on,
I already had XP installed in my computer; i just wanted to show my friend
how to do the fresh installation of windows XP.
So, like usual installation of XP, i put the XP CD in the CD driveA
and proceeded with the installation process.

I have done fresh installation of XP many times in my computer, so i know
about the processes that will go through.
Normally, when you insert the XP and proceed with the installation.
The XP setup option will ask you the installation drive where the XP to be installed
and it will scan the computer and show the OS that has been installed already in
you computer. Then after giving the appropriate drive for installation the setup
will format the drive and copy the installation files in to system and Reboot
the system, after it got rebooted the windows boot loading screen will appear and
after that the setup will proceed the further installation process where you will the
License key and other things, right? This is the normal installation process that i have
ever noticed so far.

Contrarily, I have noticed that some installation processes like, examining the previously available OS and prompting to choose the right drive to install the XP have been totally skipped.

I just inserted the XP CD then the system automatically jumped to the copying files process and the setup files have been t... Read more

Hello all.
Trying to fix dads laptop. The basics are, failing to load XP (gets stuck on background of DT page for about 5 secs then logs off). Tried running Safe Mode, same thing. Ran Diagnostics came up with Dell error Code 0ff0 136c which seems to suggest prob with HD. However, when I asked him about any adjustments he might have made said something about Norton throwing up a Trojan warning and he clicked a button or 2. Not sure if it was a fake pop up which has resulted in a virus going into the startup process. The big prob is we dont have any XP discs which would have come with laptop to run any recovery. Do I have to create a new disc? and if so how do I go about this (I have my laptop with working XP on it if helps). Or is there anything else I can try? Appreciate any help.

Hi I need to access some files on my laptop but I cannot for the life of me get it to boot. Over the last few days I was receiving kernel page error blue screens which restarted my computer but once I stopped using google chrome it seemed to solve the problem. However earlier today the blue screen appeared again but this time I cannot boot the laptop. It starts up then the blue screen flashes saying system needs to restart, system restarts and then goes to system repair saying something like "repairing disk errors, will take an hour or more". I've left it for a few hours both times but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. Then I tried to create a recovery file on a usb and activated it using the bios which should bring up a recovery menu but it just goes to a black screen where it hangs for ages before the blue need to restart screen comes up again. At my wits end here, laptop is only 2 months or so old and can't seem to figure out a way to fix it. I'm using windows 8.1 and its an acer aspire e1-571, please help!! Thanks!

right, never asked anything online before so sorry for the way this will be laid out.
I keep getting the BSOD after about 1 hour of having the machine on. this has been going on now for well over 6 months, only have it on once every few months really due to moving and family stuff etc.
anyways, not had the time, now I do. been trying for few days to sort out and got nowhere. if I restart the machine within the hour it still does BSOD, only if I shutdown and leave for a min will it work again. once I get BSOD if I try to load up again it does not even find my SSD, and will not load, I put a windows disc in to try and "repair" but it loaded up via my HDD (got 2x1Tb with raid1) and would only let me install windows again. I did that as wanted to know what would happen, now I got 2 windows lol, anyways, so I shutdown pc and then booted up, hit f8 and did manual boot from SSD as it found it. booted fine. then hour later BSOD. so now I new I had an hour each time to sort it. so ive done this.
full scans via ESET and malwarebytes in normal and safe mode, used windows update and updated everything. used driver booster 2 to update all my drivers, found 27!. looked in device manager and no yellow !, defraged all drives, tried to do error disc check on SSD for when it restarted but it failed and it didn't say why.
after all that still does BSOD, so I bit the bullet and put in a windows disc, partitioned both the raided HDD and the SSD and did clean install, had to use win 7... Read more

Look for an option to Reset Your BIOS To Factory Defaults. If that doesn't work, consult your owner's manual for other options (clear cmos, reflash bios, etc). I'm assuming you did not delete anything in Windows 8 (or from the physical hard drive directly) because you only mentioned bios access.

Moving a hard drive with XP already installed rarely works because the hardware is different, as you have found. You can do a repair install if you have your Windows installation CD. Are you able to boot XP in Safe Mode?

the subject almost said it all ... I just got a new computer and I am trying to install my windows xp professional edition but I am encountering problems with the boot discs. I downloaded the boot discs off of microsoft's site (im not sure what version they are if there are different versions to be had); they go through the thing that they do and its just about to use the cd but it says that it cannot find the cd rom drive. i see the cd rom drive in the bios setup, its in there as the secondary master. the cd drive is a lg GCR-8523B the mother board is: 865PE Neo2 Series. ANY help would be great ... it just arrived for christmas and it wanna get it workin! thanks

if possible help thanks

A:Old xp computer keyboard works fine but when on boot menue it dont work

I think you will probably need to temporarily connect whichever alternative keyboard (PS/2 or AT) the system has input for, enter the BIOS setup as indicated on the boot screen, and enable an option which is commonly called Legacy USB. The system should then respond to the USB keyboard prior to Windows starting.

This often occurs on older systems when the CMOS data has been reset back to BIOS default values. Make sure the CMOS backup battery hasn't gone flat, or it is likely to happen again.

Hi, I am Emy from the Netherlands. Wish you all a nice day!

I have troubles with - at least - one of the computers in the little network here. I will describe some of the troubles.
-Links to internetpages on the desktop dont work. I need to paste those in a blank window.
-2 weeks ago the home internetpage was blocked. After looking in a lot of forums I found how to change the homepage to Google. (by changing the registry)
-Online scanners for spyware dont start/are interrupted or dont find anything wrong
-Windows installer is coming up after every click I make to install Symantec Antivirus. But Symantec is already installed.
-I tried programs like Ccleaner and ATF; also Combofix. The last one was also interrupted (black screen). I installed the recovery console. Dont know how to delete this console.
-Even when I dont use this computer, it is like the computer is busy - at times (sounds like when using a program busy converting media files)
-I couldnt activate my membership. Not using the first link, nor the second one. Got a message that something wrong.
-I found srchassctl in the registry. Erased the Search Assistant. After rebooting ACMRU was gone, but SrchAssCtl is here again
-I found msmsgs a lot of times on this computer. I think the problems started with a message in the Live messenger.

Now I will paste the properly files to this topic. DDS and Attach

Hello all,

I have been having a problem for quite some time now. I'm unsure when it started happening because it's been going on for such a long time now. So, here's whats been going on.

Every time i try to delete something, it finishes deleting and the 'Deleting' Windows stays open and it tells me its calculating how much time is remaining and it says 0 bytes left. o to get rid of the window i have to restart windows explorer from the task manager. Another problem i've been having is that when i rename a file, i can't X out of the window that i renamed the file in and i have to restart windows explorer for it to work. After i restart WE the folder/file is renamed. The last problem linked to this is that whenever i move/copy a file, it keeps the 'Moving' window open and i can't close it unless i restart windows explorer.

It's a real pain to deal with this and if anyone could help me out that would be great...

I have an HP desktop running Windows Vista x64 Bit. If you need anymore info just let me know. Thanks guys

Wecome Vinny,
I think that we may be able to solve your problem. Initially, a few reasons come to mind for your problem. Lets go step by step
Update and make a full anti virus scan
Download and make a full scan with Malwarebytes.
Run an SFC scan
System Files - SFC Command
Run 3 times if errors are found.
Finally, if nothing else is found, hit alt cntrl and delete at the same time on your keyboard, bring up task manager.
Go to process, click show process from all users. Then give us a screen shot.

hi all

First I know this has been asked a many times but no solutions seems to work for me. I have a bunch of stuff going wrong and all seems to related to each other.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
That is how the problem progressed:

1. I was trying to enable Telnet service and found out that 'Turn Windows Features on/off' in Control panel > Programs and Features is a blank list.

I checked on internet and i found out that it means my windows update wont be working as well so i check it:

2. Windows update gives the error 80070002 and it does not check for updates.

3. Again check net and it said to run sfc/scannow in command prompt (as administrator). I did it. and it gives error 'Windows Resource Protection can't execute the command'.

I have tried everything. I have tried:
msconfig.exe to enable/disable services and restarting and rechecking.
Uninstalling my Avast Antivirus.
Running MS Fixit tool.
I have checked disk check in advanced startup options.
Deleted 'C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download' contents and recheck the Windows update facility.
Nothing works. I dont have Windows CD coz my laptop came installed with windows.

Thanks for reading. and helping

I am mainly looking for input...I havent tried W8 at all so essentially know very little about it.
I am usually pretty fast to try out a new OS and accept the new technology ....but I failed to do such with W8.
From what little I have read some just dont like it....Change is often bad as people want familiarity so they dont seem lost on the new OS.
So with{un} familiarity aside ...I am interested more in its short comings such as useful functions lost if there are any.
Also is it multi tasking friendly.
I notice right away that the desktop is essentially gone as we know it and is filled with your business for everyone to see.

Ok I have Windows Defender. Along with SpyCatcher, AVG anti virus and AVG anti spyware, Spyware Terminator, VundoFix, Ad-Aware SE, Spyware Doctor and Spybot S&D. Reciently found that I have a pop up generator. So I did a scan with Windows Defenter can came back clean. I then did a scan with every single other program I have and EVERY program came back with multiple fairly serious threats. So basically 50 viruses got past Windows Defender. So obviously it does not find viruses effectively. Do what does it do? Should I just remove it?

A:Does Windows Defender Even Do Anything? I Dont Think It Does...

Windows Defender is an anti-spyware tool not an anti-virus. Using more than one anti-spyware program increases your protection coverage. No single product is 100% foolproof and can detect and remove all threats at any given time. The security industry is in a constant state of change with new infections coming out on a daily basis. Each vendor has its own definition of what constitutes spyware and scanning your computer using different criteria will yield different results. The fact that each program has its own definition files means that some malware may be picked up by one that could be missed by another. Thus, a layered defense using several products to supplement your anti-virus and scanning in safe mode provides the most complete protection.

I have a problem but how to say? I don?t know what it is at all. My operating system is Windows XP Service Pack 2 Home edition and I have already completed the 5 steps before posting a Log and there are not many changes.

The symptoms:
- First time in the middle November my laptop started to act in a weird way: when I have caps lock on it will type small letters and the opposite, when I want to open a new tab in explorer it will open me a new window, when I want to use the right click options of my mouse I will have to click the left side, when I want to select one folder it will select all the folders present in the already opened one. Therefore I tried to update and run a check with my antivirus (NOD32) and Spyboot S&D but I couldn?t update them and not even run a proper check. Therefore I thought of restarting my computer and performing the check while starting up and everything turned back to normal apart the sound: the sound will not play when windows starts up or shuts down, warning messages appear or when I plug in my USB but music and movies will play normally in winamp, windows media player and similar programs. After restarting my laptop I also could update my antivirus and Spyboot S&D and run a normal check but nothing was found at the time.
- A few days ago while working on something my laptop suddenly restarted and when it came back into windows it showed me a warning saying ?the system has just recovered from a serious problem report to bla... Read more

There is some malware on your system but I dont think it is the cause of all your problems.I'd be surprised if it is..

Please download Combofix from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop. For further information regarding this download you can see this on this Information Page

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

1. Close any open browsers.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

I am trying to stop Windows Messenger from starting up whenever I boot my computer. I have removed it numerous times from the Startup menu using Tuneup Utilities and directly. It is removed initially, However it soon returns and adds itself to the Startup Menu. I am using Windows Outlook Live and I have a strong idea that it may have something to do with my problem. Does anyone know how to remove Windows Messenger from the startup menu and keep it from returning. Removing Windows Messenger completely is not an option due to my use of Outlook Live.

Thanks, LTK

Step One:

Reset your PC from the manufacturer recovery partition. You don't need Windows 8/8.1 DVD/USB/ISO.

Reset Windows 8

Reset Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 from within Windows 8 and Windows 8.1

5. If you have Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1

A) On the left side in PC settings, click/tap on Update & Recovery.
B) On the left side in Update & Recovery, click/tap on Recovery, click/tap on the Get started button under the Remove everything and reinstall Windows section on the right side

Step Two:

Once you have installed Windows again:

How do I go about splitting the main partition into 2?

I recently bought a Lenovo laptop that came preloaded with the usual bloatware. The only thing that caught my eye was Phone Companion. Apparently it allows you to send texts and make phone calls from you laptop and they go through your phone. It sounded kind of neat, even if I never used it.
So I started the app and the first thing it says is "Scan this QR code with your Android device to download the companion app!". It was like "what? No WP"? Just in case, I scanned the QR code anyway and of course the app doesn't exist in the Windows Phone store.
Is it strange of me to think that a Windows 8 app would have a WP companion app instead of just Android? Am I being unrealistic? I can see a normal Windows application being specific to the more popular mobile devices, but a Windows 8 app just feels like it is meant to go with Windows Phone. They share a design philosophy and language. Its like if there was a Kinect game that said "Now show your Android phone to Kinect to get started".
Is this what we can expect with Windows 10? PC/Phone combo apps that I cant run without an iPhone or Android?

You said they do not download OR fail but then you said they failed, which is it?

Make sure you have restarted your computer since then. Try updating ONLY important updates, possibly selecting a few at a time to download and update. Let me know if it still fails. Restart>select some updates (important ones first, then slowly working your way to other updates you want to have installed)>installl>restart again. If it works keep doing this method

These two things likely don't have an effect on the updates, but try them anyway:

1. Do you know if you have all your drivers currently updated?

2. Has windows been activated yet?

Ive ran the diskcheck /n or whatever.

A:[SOLVED] Windows 7 dont want to start

Hi, you will need to use your OS dvd and boot from it access the command prompt ( this loads the sources sudirectory (folder) of a Ram disk identified by the drive letter x: (I see you can do this) at the cmd prompt, which will read x:sources, type:-

bcdedit | find "osdevice"
(exactly as you see here, press enter) now when windows loads the RE (repair your computer) it does not always allocate the drive letter that your OS is on. It may be some other drive letter. This cmd tells us what drive is allocated to the OS, we use this letter in our cmds.

Assume C: (if not change accordingly)

Type the following cmd's, pressing enter after each line.

Bcdedit /export c:\BCD_Backup
cd boot
attrib bcd ?s ?h ?r
ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
BootRec /RebuildBcd
Restart computer, let us know how you get on.

TIP: print this out you will not have access once in the RE.

Been lookin around for a tutorial about how to make my computer detect my External HD... nothing fixed my problem, first of all : I Cant see my External HD on Disk manage

when i turn on the HD i can feel it is working... so i tryed it on my other computer... it dosnt work as well so i tryed it on my bell expressvu, it dont detect as well

any idea?

A:Windows 7 dont detect External HD

Sounds like the external drive had died. It's possible just the enclosure electronics has died and the drive itself is still okay. You can remove it from the enclosure and install it as a 2nd hard drive in your computer, mount it in another external drive enclosure or buy a USB Universal Drive adapter and connect it to your computer that way.

I have a NewerTech USB 2.0 Universal Drive Adapter that I use for this purpose but there are many other brands available as well. Works with IDE (PATA) and SATA drives from desktop and laptop computers.

If you can't get into a admin account then there is really no easy way to do it. There is a bootable disk that lets you registry edit and change the password from dos. My desktop was recently hijacked by some sort of malware. The problem now is that i followed the steps that where said on

It said.

* Download and install CCleaner
o Now run Ccleaner with the default options (that means don?t change anything) to clean out temporary files.
o Only use the default settings on the Windows Tab and select Run Cleaner. Do not run any other options from other tabs.
o Also it is highly recommended to login to all other User Accounts on the PC including the Administrator account (on Win2K,XP and Vista) which will only show when you boot in safe mode.
+ Run CCleaner on each account. This can greatly reduce scan time and log sizes from the later scanning you will do below.
+ If you don?t see Ccleaner?s link when logging into the other accounts, just goto the C:\Program Files\Ccleaner folder and double click on the ccleaner.exe file to run it. You can also create a shortcut to the file on the Desktop of your other user accounts to make it easier to run in the future.
o If you booted into safe mode to clean the Adminstrator account, be sure to reboot in normal mode before continue on with the below instructions.

If I just simply double click on one of those programs I get a process that is always 120k no matter which program and it will keep allowing you to click just making even more of these processes. I can get these programs to start if I run as administrator but when they start explorer crashes, I have tried searching the web but no-one else seems to have quite the same problem and I wouldnt have a clue as to what I could do to stop it. I would class myself as a quite knowledgeable with computers but I just cant figure this one out. Any help would be great and now my system specs:

msi x58 pro mobo
core i7 920 @ 2.67ghz
12gb corsair ddr3 1333mhz
geforce gtx 295 zotac
1050 watt psu

A:reformatted windows 7 and most programs dont start

1) Why did you need to reinstall? The fact that you are using utorrent raises a yellow flag.

2) After reinstalling, did you download and install all drivers including the chipset driver?

Baically, I bought a pre-installed computer, it got slow so we had it wiped then we put windows xp back on it. A:New installation of Windows xp, sp3 and I dont have a sound driver?

Install this software, which will tell you all about your system, including your motherboard. Once you have the make/model of the motherboard you can get the driver from the manufacturers website:
