winxp pro driver issue

Q: winxp pro driver issue

I recently installed win xp pro on a couple of friends pc's after the dreaded BSOD and noticed that most of the video, audio and modem drivers were missing( showing up as big yellow question marks in device manager) so I got a corporate edition of xp pro with sp3 slipstreamed into it. I used this disk on a pc the other day and same thing happened(Is this common?) anyway I downloaded all the drivers from the dell site and checked the pc, played cd,played video and connected to the internet all ok. problem I'm faced with now is the owner uses a usb dongle ( from his mobile phone company) to get on the 'net but it wont work on the pc yet if I put it in mine it works fine, I was thinking it was something to do with the usb ports but then how come the keyboard and mouse still work.
next idea was maybe it something to do with the wireless driver, I checked device manager but can't find anything wrong, so I guess I don't know what I'm looking for, so I came here for enlightenment
Thank you

Having a bit of an issue with a driver. Motherboard is MSI K8T Neo MS-6702 ver. 1.0 running XP Pro SP3. I've installed all the driver's from the website as I don't have a driver disc for the MB.

Device Manager shows a WinXP Promise FastTrack 376/378 (tm) Controller with a code 10 error device cannot start. I've tried a few driver's and all have the same result. Forgive me if I sound noobish, but I'm a bit behind in my hardware The cpu is a 64-bit AMD Athlon 3000+ running at 2GHZ. I've installed 32-bit version of XP.

Hello. Does anyone know if USB drivers written for Windows XP will work with Windows XP Embedded?

A:WinXP / WinXP Embedded USB Driver Interoperability

XP Embedded is supposedly a componentized version of Window XP. It's intended for OEM's developing an embedded computer, usually for some industrial or large commercial application, rather than your run-of-the-mill PC.

I own a second hand Mesh computer and I have none of the official documentation. Recently I reformatted my pc to Windows XP Professional SP3 and did my best to collect drivers and so forth. The problem I am having is installing the correct driver for my Ethernet Port.

I found that I needed the driver associated with the motherboard -- ASUS P5N-E SLI. Went to the manufacturers site and located the LAN driver here -- SLI

I cannot work out how to install this driver. There is no .EXE and after a closer investigation I found it to be a Remote Installation. I did a google search but with my little knowledge of the topic, nothing seemed to answer my installation query. The documentation included speaks of a RIS image and an unknown directory to me -- RemoteInstall\Setup\Language\Images\Dir_name\I386

Any help on installing this driver? If there is any extra information needed, I'll do my best. Thanks in advance, I know how useful this forum can be.

I have a fairly old notebook that I have been doing a pretty good job of keeping on life support. I've updated and upgraded everything and everything else works just peachy except now I have a problem with WinXP and the CD-ROM drive.

The notebook is a Toshiba Satellite 2250CDT with a TEAC CD-224E-B CD-ROM drive. In Device Manager there is a yellow exclamation point on this drive. The Device status is "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupt or missing (Code 39)".

I'm guessing the TEAC driver is incompatible with WinXP and there is nothing on the TEAC or Toshiba websites. Is there such a thing as a generic driver? I've scoured the web looking for an answer and you may be my last great hope. Any ideas?

I am new here, and I hope someone here can really help me out of this dilemma. My wife somehow downloaded and installed a certain driver she thought it was to be upgraded for Window XP Pro. After she rebooted it, she got as far as just before the log on, everything freeze. I ask if she remembers what the driver was she downloaded and installed, she didn?t know for sure what it was. I try booting into WinXP Pro Safe Mode, and it did the same thin, mouse and all. I cannot log onto Safe Mode. Believing it may have been a certain driver in conflict with something incompatible ? possibly the USB ? I unplug all the devices using the USB including the mouse. The results are still the same, if froze as before. I use the command.exe to run chkdsi /r to see if it can repair it. That one fails. I try using the WinXP CD in an attempt to repair the Windows without losing the data. That didn?t work either.
My only option is possible reformatting the hard drive, but I do not want to reformat the hard drive until I can figure out how I can retrieve the important data (My Documents). I remember I can easily do that with Windows 95 using the DOS command by coping most of my files to the floppy disk. It was time consuming, but it was worth it before the invention of the Flash. Now I can?t figured out how I can retrieve the data to be copy to the Flash since WinXP doesn?t work like Windows 95. The hard drive, by the way, is healthy. It?s just like I say, there is a driver conflict that... Read more

A:WINXP Driver Incompatible?

Using the Windows Installation disk, did you try running "chkdsk /f" ? If so did it report and/or fix any errors ? Run chkdsk multiple times and get several clean scans before moving on; the HD may be getting ready to fail.

Also, in Recovery Console, run "fixboot" and "fixmbr".

Try Safe Mode. When booting to Safe Mode, disconnect ALL hardware except for the keyboard.

If all of these fail, you may need to run a Repair Install.

Is the WinXP disk you are using the correct one for you installation ?

A:WinXP driver issues

Hi, Your motherboard has a chipset from VIA, and usually you must install motherboard drivers from an install CD, or download from the support site for the Gigabyte board...did you do this?
You have an onboard video adapter/chip. May need to disable it in the BIOS....I am not sure as some allow you to just install an added in card and load new drivers, some do not.
You may have to load the Standard VGA adapter drivers, then after that is loaded and running in 16 color (yuck) you can install the right drivers for your OS and the Radeon and it will install.
I would review the instructions from the mobo manual for installing an add in video card- the manual, if you do not have one, is here::
manual found in the list on the left.
Reading the FAQs might be quicker than opening the manual online with Adobe Acrobat.... but, it says "Coming soon" for them...oh well, manual is best I can do, unless you or someone can hunt for details on how to use add in video card easily.
Might be just the standard step by step, uninstall all video drivers and switch to SVGA, then install new ones. Safe Mode can help with this.

Note that there is a 7VKMP-P version of this board.

I've been having a slight problem with my SATA controller drivers. The nvidia drivers that I was using would always cause a bsod pointing to nvgts.sys in system32/drivers. While trying to figure out which driver to install as a replacement, i found the nvgts.sys file and deleted it from system32/drivers folder, just to see what would happen... Now Windows XP can't boot up because the driver is missing lol; I can't even get into safe mode. So, is there any way to reinstall the driver from the Windows CD-ROM or something? The black screen says to insert the said CD and start the recovery console but I wouldn't know what to run. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A:Reinstalling Driver WinXP

Assuming you used a floppy to install the Nvidia Raid drivers, start a Repair Install and when it asks for you to press F6 do so and re-install them.

edit: btw, if you Google that driver there are LOTS of people experiencing issues with it.

Its possible its a pirated copy of XP. Does the customer have a product key sticker on the bottom of the laptop and do they have their installation cd?

New Computer, new everything

P4 2.8ghz
abit MB IS7-E
512 ram
plextor dvd -ide
maxtor 160 -sata

now, hardwarewise im not receiving any errors, i had some issues on setting up SATA support in Bios. Apparently auto doesnt work but manually setting it does.

Currently i have SATA2 connected to the HD and IDE-1 to the plextor. shows up in bios, and apparently works.

Heres where the problem occurs, when i try to install windows xp professional, i use the cd to boot into setup mode.

First problem, the HD is 160 gigs, however i can only allocate 131 gigs for usage. I tried to use the maxtor Promise patch via f6 in the setup menu to update the newest drivers, didnt do anything i could tell. Sometimes the computer will load and a message of "Warning: The Hard disk has changed. Please enter setup to varify" (not completely verbatim, but close enough) this occurs even without any modifications in BIOS. Primary Master is the plex, Secondary Master is the Maxtor. Dunno what issues they have...

--- Any suggestions on either of these issues?

Second problem, i run the setup and make a partition and windows copies all setup files and hits up the 15 seconds to reboot. At reboot the cd-rom tries to boot, if i remove the cd from the tray, i get an error.. nicely fitting the "****ed if you do, ****ed if you dont" criteria.

--- Is windows just stupid or is the CD corrupt?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My uncle dropped off his XP & his comp with me asking me to reformat it, after first backing up all his data. So I did, but his PC uses 2 Sata drives seen as ONE, putting the XP disc in & booting it up seemed normal but it showed NO drives. Neither did the Bios. The 2 Sata drives that make up 1 uses RAID that is detected after the BIOS.

Hi, recently I've been having some problems with my computer so I decided to give it a reformat. Up to this point I used to leave my computer at BestBuy to get things done because quite frankly I don't know squat about computers. But this time around I wanted to learn my way around the advanced aspects of computer maintenance, so I decided to do it myself.

At first I had to learn what BIOS is and how to make my computer boot from CD rom. No biggie, didn't take me too long. But when it got to the actual installation part I got a message that read something like "hard disk not detected." I gave it another try before searching the net again for an answer. I found one case in a different tech forum that was similar to mine, and most of the replies suggested that he either needed a fresh RAID driver install or reinstall in a different driver mode. After fiddling around on Dell's support page for a bit with the help of a very, very kind person I met online I finally made a RAID driver disk and gave the whole thing ANOTHER try. No dice, it still couldn't detect the hard disk even after the drivers were installed.

So I simply decided to try the whole thing in different driver mode and I'm afraid this is what sealed my fate. I was able to fdisk in "RAID autodetect / ATA" mode (it was originally set to "RAID autodetect / AHCI" mode) and install a new copy of Windows - except I can't install any drivers necessary to ru... I am trying to reinstall WinXp onto my Dell Inspiron 2200. I had no problems with the OS when I installed it. But when it comes time to extract and install from the Drivers and Utilities disk, many of the drivers applications and utilities simply do not install. I get what seems to be one of two error messages. Either that an object was not found, or it cannot install on this system. The only utilities that seemed to install without a problem where ones that worked for WinXp and Win2000 and that were also listed as compatible with every Inspiron model type in the drop down list. A few months back I reinstalled WinXp on this machine without these problems using the same two disks. I do remember that when using the Drivers and Utilites disk, Inspiron 2200 was not a model number available on the drop down list. XPS, 600m, 300m, 8600, and 1150 were on there to name a few. I recall using the files for one of those model types and never having any problems. Anyone know if any models out there use the same drivers as a 2200? Or if something may have went wrong when I installed WinXp. Thanks.

Alright, I give up. If you go into your Windows XP device manager and View > Show Hidden Devices, look under Network adapters. You'll see WAN Miniport drivers, probably several of them. Unfortunately, on one of my Windows XP Pro machines, I don't. They're not there. Now, they're just software drivers, so it should be quite easy... but how do I add them?

A:WinXP: Install WAN Miniport driver?

I think I've got it...

If anyone runs into this, here's how I fixed it, although not well tested yet:

I just exported related registry settings from a similar, but working computer. Specifically, those referring to the ndiswan and related drivers. It seems that the most important of those are in Local_Machine\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\MS_NDIS...

Then, I temporarily changed the permissions using regedt32 on the non-working computer so that I could modify the Root folder... And imported! With a restart, the missing devices are showing up.

Alright, it's that lovely "Limited or No Connectivity" bug.

I have a brand new laptop that shipped with WinXP Home SP2. I connected it to my DSL connection back home with no problems but when I've tried to jack into any other lines, one Cable, and one DSL, I have been getting the above error.

I read up on this and thought I was perhaps experiencing the SP2 bug but I've since set my card to 10mbs with no luck. I ran the reg update and the hotfix MS provides all with no change.

All the routers I've jacked into had automatic address supplying and I was able to connect to the internet at my place as soon as I took the machine out of the box. None since although my home line still works for me, so this should rule out a hardware error.

Anyone got any ideas? Things I should try?

A:WinXP Home Networking Issue

It would help a bunch if you told us something about the networks associated with the places you tried to jack into. If you're configured for automatic IP address, and the network in question has a DHCP server, that's usually all it takes. However, if you connect to a corporate network, many times they have additional security measures. I need more information to make an intelligent guess as to the problem.

When the computer was turned on this morning the entire screen (from boot start) was split into tiled copies of iteslf. Even when I go into the BIOS screen, it too is split in tiled copies. When Windows boots, the entire desktop is tiled. Each tile has it's own cursor, task bar, desktop icons, and programs. All tiles work simultaneously (not individually), so when the mouse is moved, all cursors move the same direction and click the same icon in each tile; when a program is opened, it opens in all tiles. No new programs have been installed and no updates occurred since last use (the night before).

Attempted fixes:

1. simple reboot - no change
2. system restore - no change
3. updated graphics driver - not needed
4. virus scan - clean

Does anyone have any clues about how I can remove the split and make it normal again (short of complete reinstallation)? Any help is appreciated thank you.

I have a Debian server running samba for file sharing with an office full of WinXP Pro + WinME machines. I am trying to rid myself of the ME machines. Samba is acting as the PDC.

I have installed XP Pro onto one of the ME machines, and it is running fine. However, I cannot log into the domain with the username accounts. I can create a local user named accounts and then browse the network for connections, but I cannot log in to the domain directly as user accounts . (It should be noted that user accounts has been working fine for years under ME)

The error I get states "The system could not log yoou on. Make sure your username & domain are correct, then type your password again." Viewing the logs on the server show no issues - it is evidently a problem at the XP end.

I have no problem logging in to the domain from any of the ME machines. I cannot do so from any of the XP machines. It appears to be a difference between ME & XP.

Anyone know of any registry hacks for this? Is accounts restricted in XP as a domain logon?

I have a Laserjet 2100 TN installed on a Peir to Pier Network of 4 PCs running Win98SE. It is connected via the IPX/SPX protocol. I'd like to upgrade these machines to Win XP, but I heard that IPX/SPX is not available in XP. How will I be able to keep this printer on the network?

A:No IPX/SPX in WinXP? Printer Config issue

According to Microsoft:

Support for the following legacy protocols is discontinued in Windows XP:
NetBEUI, a non-routable protocol
DLC, a non-routable protocol
AppleTalk, a protocol used with Apple computers

Took a look and NWLink IPX/SPX/Netbios Compatible Transport Protocol is available as an option to install.

Again, according to Microsoft:

NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS–Compatible Transport Protocol (NWLink) is the Windows XP Professional implementation of the Internetwork Packet Exchange/Sequenced Packet Exchange (IPX/SPX) protocol. You can use NWLink to connect Windows XP Professional clients to NetWare resources, or to allow NetWare clients to access Windows XP or Windows 2000 resources. Microsoft Client Service for NetWare operates over the NWLink protocol. NWLink automatically installs with Microsoft Client Service for NetWare.

The computer's a year old, running XP, and my boyfriend and I have no idea what's wrong with it (it's his). I'd put in hardware support but I don't know which piece of hardware may be corrupted, exploding as we speak, or what.

It began last night. He's done this before -- he has two monitors, one meant for a TV (I believe) and another old computer screen. Normally it runs on the TV one because it's bigger. He switched to the older one to show me how he can adjust the settings so that it's all vertical. That was great and dandy and we didn't expect any issues. He's done it before and it really isn't doing much to the computer.

Later, after midnight, he goes to switch everything back to normal. First, the computer acts like the monitor is there but that it can't do anything -- it tries to go into sleep mode or something. Then I suggest he unplug, shut down, plug things back in normally, and power back up. This appears to work.

I was a bit happy then, until we got to the XP loading screen. It's going... and then after, it flashes, then goes black. Nothing comes up, nothing does anything.

And so the three hour saga of last night begins. We restart, we spam F8, we get into safe mode, he disables Nvidia but can't open the application. Nor does his mouse function in safe mode (I know some don't, but it really doesn't help the situation). I've used my laptop to bring up shortcut keys and we're functioning through everything that way. He restarts after disabling Nvidia, an... Read more

I posted the same on their tech support forum but I'm beginning to think the issue, while it may have been exacerbated by the game Guildwars 2, is likely on my end, but I have a number of suggestions, none of which has worked. Also tried my own stuff.
Anyway, here is what I posted on their own tech forum:
Having a lot of issues getting into gw2…I have bits and pieces of problems others have had in the past, but nothing seems to work, so I’m re-downloading the game, basically. All I want to do is play the freaking game, why does it have to be so much trouble?
Once in awhile I will get that blue and yellow graphical glitch on something. Just more info for diagnosis. If and when this happens, it’s always immediately apparent at character select. However…The biggest problem I have with GW2 is also on login – it either crashes or bluescreens my computer right after clicking play and the client tries to load for 5-10 seconds. For the past few days, 90% of the time it just crashes. If I try to patch after that point, the patcher stops at Downloading 0KB and will not budge from it. Not even to log in. I have to reboot my computer to get it past “Downloading 0KB”.
One post I found said that they started having all these problems after downloading a number of games on Steam (which I have done off and on due to a friend getting me a few gifts) , until their HD shrank down to 30 gigs. Same here, an... Read more

Unfortunately, though I thought I did, I have no images of the odd cyan/yellow graphics glitch, and I have no way of getting one (google didn't turn up any that looked the same as mine, granted some were similar).
Edit - I also noticed after re-enabling page memory on my primary drive after freeing up some space, that in the error logs, the amount of paged memory in use is for some reason higher. I can't imagine why this is, but maybe I don't understand the process.

I recently bought the supposedly excellent Canon MP530 multi-function printer, etc. and went to install it on my WinXP pro machine and . . . nothing. I've spent some time with Canon tech support (some helpful, some not so helpful) but I still can't get the freakin' things to communicate with each other. The consistent result of my installations is "no driver is installed" or "cannot find driver" - even though the driver itself seems to install. Also, when I turn the printer on, I get the New Hardware Wizard, which, I think, means my computer is detecting the printer. It's as if the driver is just not recognized by my computer.
I've installed (and uninstalled) the drivers from both the disc that came with the printer and from the Canon website. I've used two different USB cables. I've tried many combinations of plugging/unplugging, starting/restarting, turning on/off - all to no avail.
I've logged on as the Administrator. I've done my best to shut down any programs or processes- though I think this is tricky, as I don't necessarily know what each thing in my Startup or Services is. I've even tried installing from SafeMode. I've tried using the New Hardware Wizard; I've tried ignoring the New Hardware Wizard. I've received a few error messages, but only when attempting the full installation from the disc. The messages are: "AddPrinterDriverEx Error:2", "AddPrinter Error:1797&... Read more

Presario 1622 56K-DF Modem driver for XP

Hi guys. I have noticed that when i installed winXP on my old presario 1622 it didnt detected the modem. I've tried to find the driver for XP but i'm having a little trouble with it. I went to the hp/compaq site but there's a driver but only for win 95/98/ME. I downloaded it but when using the .inf file trying winxp to detect it, it doesn´t work.

Everything was ok when it had win98 because it detected the modem right away...i know, this machine wasn´t supposed to work with xp but with good ram and a good hard drive it is working well

The modem in question is the Compaq Presario 56K-DF modem. If anyone knows where to find this driver, please let mi know.

A:WinXP Modem Driver for presario 1622

Take down the chip name, board, and product numbers, then look for the WXP drivers on The drivers are there, and are free. The Presario used several different modems. The 56k-DF doesn't help unless you also know the brand... if you cannot figger it out, repost with the modem card and chip numbers here and we will guide you.
The modem is usually a Lucent, now found as Agere. The driverguide version that usually works is the Presario 1275 56K-DF, file name SP20530, which you can also find with a search.

So I was having problems with connecting to the internet so I decided to reinstall my drivers for my LAN device. The installation didnt seem to have worked successfullly (nForce utilities were not working) so I tried reinstalling the driver again. After installation completed, instead of saying "You must restart your computer now or later" all that came up was "1155: [Okay]"
Then I restarted the computer and now it does not load XP after BIOS initiations. Just kind of stalls with a black screen, but the computer does not reset or shut down, just stalls.
It gets passed the BIOS stuff but does not show any of the XP boot screens.
I looked it up a little and found
that for data recovery, and potentially making the drive bootable again?
I'm not sure what to do, any way to get the computer to boot windows again without any loss of data? And a correct procedure of reinstalling the LAN driver would be nice, as it didnt work as I expected (unusual)
Any and all help is appreciated, hopefully I can get my rig back up and running in no time!

The machine runs fine.

The Belkin wireless card functions correctly. Every other computer in the room can see and connect to the network without issue. This one desktop shows as if everything is just fine - however, it wont' 'see' our network. It'll see the Red Roof a quarter mile down the street - but won't see the one based 30 feet away. A computer right next to it sees our network - and the Motel 6 accross the street.

Any ideas as to why it can't see 'our' network?

A:Odd wireless networking issue (WinXP home)

Since "The Belkin wireless card functions correctly" maybe it is a 'b' card and your network and the Motel 6 one are 'g' only networks? Not likely for a motel, though.

Or if there is a possibility that the card is not functioning correctly, look for a driver/utility update. Are you using Windows XP' WZC or the Belkin utility to manage the adapter? Are you sure that the other one is not running?

However, now when you boot up, if there is a cd in the cd-rom drive, it seems to 'hang' during windows startup for about 30-60 seconds. During that time it doesn't seem to be accessing the drive.

After the 30-60 second delay, it boots up fine.

Hello there,

I know this issue has been brought up a few times, but I can't find a solution.
I recently inherited a Toshiba Tecra A8. Problem is : the built-in speakers can't seem to work, but the sound is just fine on external speakers or headphones. The speakers used to work at some point in the past, but the previous owner can not tell me what caused the sudden change.

Here's what I did, chronologically, after browsing multiple forums :

- SP3 was installed when I got the computer. I tried to revert back to SP2.
- I've reinstalled XP (had to, machine was too slow). SP2 came with the install CD.
- I've installed two XP hotfixes that were supposed to solve the problem : KB835221 and KB888111
- I've re-installed the Realtek Audio HD codec
- I always try muting/unmuting after everything I do, even before or after a reboot.

Here's what I can tell so far :

- Sound icon is present on the system tray. All volumes are up, whether on the Windows sound manager or on the Realtek one.
- I do not have DOS beeps.
- I'm still on SP2. Didn't try moving on to SP3 (on this new XP install, of course).
- Before I did reinstall Realtex Audio HD, the "internal" option listed under "I/O audio" was shown, but I couldn't access it. After the reinstall, it simply disappeared.

I think that's pretty much it. I came across the same solutions on different forums or group discussions. I've been searching for two days now, to no avail. The computer ... Read more

A:Tecra A8, WinXP SP2 - issue with built-in speakers

All you have done is right but I?m missing most important info: is there the same problem when you install original recovery image and test with ?factory settings?? If yes then we can say it is not hardware problem.
Now we can just speculate if this can be hardware related issue. Fact is that sound card works properly but somehow your internal speakers are ?disabled?.

Reason can be small ?switcher? in audio jack port. Maybe they are blocked somehow. Who knows?

Win7 should configure any multi- boot properly if it is installed last and all other drives than the OS's are unplugged.

The fly in the ointment is when a data drive is marked active and confuses the Win7 installer, so keep them unplugged during install and you won't have to use old technology like EasyBCD to do what is automated in Win7 installer, and Win7 startup repair from boot.

From the ME machine, I can access the share folders and files on XP. I can see the XP share folders in the Network Neighborhood. I can PING both hosts by IP as well as host name.

From the XP machine, I can PING the ME machine by IP address. I can NOT ping the ME machine by host name. I can see the ME machine and share files using the IP address. I do not see the ME machine advertised when I look in My Network Places. When I search for the ME machine by host name, the host name is found, however when I attempt to access the host name, I receive error message "\\home2 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource....."
When I search for the ME machine by IP, I can see the machine and access files.

Why isn't the ME machine advertising the its host name to the XP machine and can't I find the ME machine by host name from XP?

How does XP keep track of local hosts names?

Hello, it's about installing WinXP on SATA (AHCI) hdd, by default standard windows xp installer can't detect AHCI, so while install you'll get a blue screen error.

I have found out that problem, and there is 2 available solutions:
1. By setting BIOS, advance, HDD, to compatible mode
2. By install windows XP that has integrated AHCI driver

If you are using solution #1, then you can install windows xp by using standard winxp installer, but if you are using solution #2, then you need to find AHCI driver for your chipset, and then integrated it to winxp installer by using software called nLite.

Nah, I want to know, where I can download AHCI driver for nvidia MCP75L chipset for winxp pro sp2.

I just found AHCI driver for win xp pro sp2, but it's intended for intel chipset, whereas mine is nvidia MCP75L.

Do you guys know where to download it?

I am using an Asus P5W64-WS MB, XP Pro SP3, and an older 74GB WD Raptor. I've never really messed around with doing the "F6" installation of RAID drivers when installing XP. Instead I've always just selected the default in the BIOS where the SATA drive is treated like an IDE device and I did not have to install the drivers during OS installation. I currently see under a speed utility that my Raptor is giving transfer rates of 85MB per sec. maximum, 24 MB per sec minimum, and 73 MB per second average.

My question is this - what sort of improvements might I see if I did a clean install of XP Pro and configured the drive as an SATA drive using the F6 driver installation option during install?

Also, is it worth going to a RAID 0 configuration if I am going to do the SATA thing? I would be using the ICH7R controller for that.

Finally, what does the AHCI option allow, and is that used with the IDE or F6'd SATA driver installation?

Thanks for any help.

A:IDE vs. F6 SATA driver install on WinXP Pro & Speed Improvements?

The HardDrive is working off the same speed on PATA or Sata.
The F6 is usually used for Sata Drives that require extra drivers
The Raid 0 is not the safest idea, and in actual fact normally I would say, don't do Raid anything if you're unsure.

The printer refuses to install under WinXP.
It worked under WinXP before. However, I uninstalled Windows and worked under Linux for several months before returning to WindowsXP. I was able to use the printer, although problematically, under Linux. When I installed a fresh copy of WinXP, the WinXP drivers refused to install.
As a side note, the previous installation was an upgrade of Win2k, where the printer worked fine. It also worked fine on Win98SE.
When I try to run the installtion file (really a self-extractin ZIP) 'XPC11_15.exe' after the warning screen, it just closes and does nothing. I then unzipped the contents into a seperate folder: two file named 'xcc152k1.EXE' and 'XP_VB.exe'. The second file contains nothing but a warning message, while the second one is the installation of the printer drivers.
The installer loads, and looks OK. I choose the language and agree to the license agreement. Then a box informs me that I need to upgrade my firmware (I did so before, when the printer worked under WinXP previously). Left without another option I click Upgrade. It opens a little box called ,which displays "Copying Files..." and then "Installing Files...". These messages flash by quickly. Then a warning message called 'Printers' appears telling me that "The arguments are invalid." after that, WMI denies access to most functions.. including msinfo32 ("can't collect data"), dependencies of services tab ("win32: access denied"), windows update (0x800A0046), and several others. the PC is standalone and NOT part of a domain.

I have user accounts for each family member on a PC running WinXP Home Edition.

We have a single mailbox with an ISP (e.g. into which email for all users is directed. On the XP box MSOutlook is set-up with rules in each user account so that as email is downloaded from the mailbox it is filtered by name into the appropriate user Outlook account. (thus: [email protected], [email protected] [email protected]). Fairly basic stuff.

Unfortunately number two daughter decided to change her password and in doing so also took advantage of setting her account to "private". Needless to say this stuffed the Outlook filter rules from directing her email to her Outlook account!

However, even though we reset her account not to be private this did not reverse the access control to her Outlook account and the rules operating in all the other XP user/Outlook accounts to direct email to her on download still do not work because they cannot open the appropriate mail folder(s). Anyone encountered this? Anyone know how we might solve it so that we can revert to the original situation?

I've asked this on various forums and to date have not received a single viable response. Hopefully I'll be more successful here!

I've been having problems installing a driver for HP890 driver for Win98, on a networked WinXP, as an alternate driver. Where can I find other files, or another method (the original CD files don't seem to work), that'll install the alternate driver in my WinXP Professional?

Since SP2 was installed, client cannot receive emails, client can send only. I configured the windows internet security and firewall and everything seems fine in the windows OS. Clients mail server said everthing looks ok on their end. Any clues??

A:Issue with WinXP Home and Outlook Express and DSL mail server

Is it any e-mail or attachments? SP2 disables attachments when have to open tab and untick the box. This is the same for if a user sends an email with an image or background it will be blocked.

Hi all. I'm not sure where to start with this issue, it's bit spread out but it all started while I was gaming and the game froze and then the computer crashed. The freezing happened every once in a while, but the crashing had never happened. During the restart I see this... And then when windows tried to start up, I got a blue screen and then it rebooted once again.
Determining that this was an issue with the bios, I resetted the CMOS. No change. So I flashed the bios with the newest update. Again, no change. I was able to boot my computer in safe mode with no issue though. So I figured it must be a driver issue. I started by removing my graphics driver for my 8800GT and rebooted. It was able to start up Windows fine, but the stuff in that image above still occured. I then tried to install the drivers located on the NVIDIA website instead of using Window's driver. But I got a message saying that I'm not using Windows 7 or Vista and as such I cannot install (but I am using Windows 7 Pro). So I tried using the Window's auto driver install and when I restart, I am unable to load Windows normally. So I'm really puzzled now because right now I believe it's a driver issue, but I can't install any other driver than the one Window's installs. Also if I am able to get a driver installed, how would it relate to the above image? Thanks for any help, and if more information is needed please let me know.

A:8800GT Driver issue? Or maybe its a bios issue.

hey did you reboot in safe mode and review everthing in that area and or install the drivers in there as well

how about system restore? i try not to but sometimes have to

Well I just found this forum today, so I decided to ask this question.

About a year ago, I had to system restore, because my computer just kept FSODing on me. When I went through the system restore process with Dell, at the end of the process I got an error. I don't quite remember what it was, as it was so long ago.

Ever since then, my computer has been completely without sound. I have tried everything from installing/reinstalling/uninstalling drivers, to the most simplistic, such as checking if my speakers work, or are connected.

So far, nothing has brought me any closer to figuring out what this problem could be. I am pretty sure that somehow, my sound card (its an integrated one) has just fried or something, but I really dont know.

So... is my sound card busted? Or are my drivers just not working for some reason?

Thanks for your help in advance.

A:Sound Card issue, or driver issue?

System restore . . .

System restore or system recovery? Did wipe the old operating system out and reinstall everything from scratch (system recovery) or did you use Windows' system restore to backdate the configuration. (Frankly, I think the choice these of terms by the industry are very confusing.)

Assuming system recovery and assuming the sound worked before and quit after system recovery, I'm for a misconfiguration. But, the simpler fix might be a cheap add-in sound card.

Help Cpc2004 ! ! !

I have another one of those problems this forum is full of.. but for the life of me i cant figure it out.

My computer just restarts flat out in windows xp (running SP2 also)..
its really frustrating.. then after it restarts it'll say 'windows recovered
Error code 1000000a, parameter1 426b7000, parameter2 000000ff,
from a serious error' and error caused by device drivers blahblah...
but that doesnt help me that much..
All it gives me as found in a windows log file:
parameter3 00000000, parameter4 804e2e58.

I also added 2 attachments of my windows\minidump folder, are
they automatically the files concerning the crash?

1 more thing it kinda sounds like my hard disk powers off, and powers back
on judging by the sound of it because it sometimes takes a few seconds to
auto re-poweron the computer... which it does...

Help would greatly be appreciated

I just bought a new laptop for someone and it has Windows 7 on it. But I ask to have Window XP installed overtop it since he's not used to Windows 7 and the transition would be too much for him (they couldn't just have Windows XP by itself because the hardware doesn't support it).

I seem to be having a problem installing the driver for his printer now, and I think it has something to do with the dual layers of operating systems.

Let me explain:

While inside Windows XP, I try to install the driver (I've made absolutely sure it's the right one) and I get to a stage where it tells me:

Step 1: plug the USB cable into the computer and the printer.
Step 2: Turn on the printer.
Step 3: Wait for the installation to continue.

Step 3 never happens. It just sits idle forever. I know it's responding to the printer because every time I turn it on/off, I get that "ding-dong" sound from the computer (also whenever I plug/unplug the cable when the printer is on).

After a few trials without success, I tried installing it on Windows 7. It worked.

I figure probably what happened was that upon turning on the printer, it was able to inform Windows 7 of its presence (because Windows 7 is the de facto OS), but this information failed to be relayed to the virtual Windows XP running on top of it.

Here's my question: now that I have it installed on Windows 7, is there some way I can go into Windows XP and inform it of the new driver and/or where it ... Read more

I am going to assume you mean you installed XP Mode in Windows 7.

Hi, I know there are countless other threads out there about this same exact issue and I apologize. I just could not find a solution to my issue in them. All of the solutions I have found require you to be able to get Windows to boot up. I am unable to do that. I am working on a student's computer and when it tries to boot, regardless if it is in normal mode or safe mode, it blue screens with the 0x50 error code and gives the by-now-familiar PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA message. I have swapped memory sticks around and put different memory in it and it does the same thing. It will blue screen just as the splash screen comes up. I tried to go back to the Last Known Good Configuration but it blue screened. I tried to use the Windows XP disk to boot into the recovery console and it blue screened. This computer has the recovery console preinstalled on it so I tried to use that one and it blue screened. Always with the same 0x50 error. I figured as a last resort I would try to use the XP cd and just reformat and reinstall and it blue screened. I think this computer is hosed. Can anyone else out there confirm my professional diagnosis, or is there a solution that I have not discovered yet? Thank you in advance.

A:[SOLVED] WinXP Home BSOD Page fault issue... HOSED!

Hi Sly, From everything that you have told me I would say that the problem you are experiencing here is a hardware problem. Most likely with either the hard drive or the mother board itself. Now this is just a guess since I am not there to test it for myself. I would however like you to get the help you need and I am very sure that you are at the right place. Just in the wrong section. Here is what I would suggest that you do.

First time poster, so may be editing this post as I re-read FAQs with help of caffeine and realize that I've missed something.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T61 running Windows XP SP3. It was left undisturbed for all of today as it ran a scheduled virus scan (I use AVIRA, and the scan was clean as of 7:00PM.) When I returned to the computer I re-connected to my secured wireless network. Windows advised me that I had a "limited/no connection" so, as prompted by toolbar, I selected "Repair." At that point I got BSOD'd with the error message "a driver has overridden a stack-based buffer." Successive restarts under Last Known Good Configuration were unsuccessful.

After reading a 2008 Vista thread about this same BSOD error I booted up in Safe Mode and am running MalwareBytes and another virus scan, neither of which has come up with anything thus far. (It was that thread which led me to post this in this forum; it seemed that the problem there was due to malware.)

I should probably add now that I'm an intermediate computer user. This is my first time using HijackThis and my first in-depth manual virus/malware removal, so I may ask you to phrase things in basic terms for me, but I learn best by doing things so at the very least this will be a good learning experience for future. Or I could just stop running Windows and solve most of my virus problems.

Thank you in advance for your help. I will update this post if I make any headway on m... Read more

Settings: P2P w/ XPHome + external app (Sabre if you need to know).

Workstation A sports a fully (as much as WinXP home allows) shared folder. Others can read, write, modify, delete, etc. files. That has been verified.

When Sabre writes files into that folder, they are NOT accessible from the other workstations. They are listed in Win Xplorer, but CAN'T be opened, even less modified or deleted. They are considered by Windoze as being still in use.

However, I retain full control over these files from workstation A, where I can move them to another folder, then move them back. Hence allowing full access to them from the the rest of the network.

Conclusion: It has to do with the way Windoze handles files, some switch the Sabre app didn't set properly.

Question: What gives?

Cisco Aironet CB21AG wireless card does not have the proper driver...

the driver that came with the card is probably a 32 bit driver...

and you need a 64 bit driver to run x64 XP pro

I went out and plonked S$308 on Windows Vista Ultimate (OEM) and have yet to install because of what I've read about X-Fi and Vista.

So far for my system,

Dell Dimension 9150

Pentium D 830 3Ghz w/ Dual Core Technology (2MB L2 Cache, 800Mhz FSB)
Intel 945P Chipset
1GB (2x512) DDR2 533Mhz SDRAM
ATI Radeon X600
[*]SoundBlaster Xi-Fi XtremeMusic
Philips DVD +/- RW DVD8701
Logitech G5 Laser Mouse
XBOX 360 Controller for Windows
Epson Perfection 3590 Scanner
Canon Pixma iP3000 Printer
Dell 1905FP UltraSharp Monitor
[*]Dell Preinstalled internal 13 in 1 USB 2.0 Card Reader
[*]Dell USB Multimedia Keyboard (I can't determine the model number)
[*]Dell Preinstalled Firewire Card

I have all the drivers that have been found to be working great with Vista (so says other users) except for X-Fi and the last 3 Dell components (that I really hope Windows Update will have - anyone had any experience here?)

Anyway, I started this thread because its hard to find any concrete user experiences with X-Fi and Windows Vista and its confusing reading about Creative posting ALchemy (??) and such.

This thread is for anyone who has solid updates / experiences with X-Fi and Vista to keep us X-Fi users updated. (The creative forums are crap)

Any news so far or are we still in the deep as X-Fi users?

I just did a fresh clean install of Windows 7 Professional x32 all my specs are on my profile thing. The first thing I did was update my drivers to the newest verified stable version 260.99 I believe for my EVGA GTX 260, Im having trouble changing my resolution. I can change it but the task bar wont adjust. I set it to the highest resolution and I can barely see the top of the task bar. I have a 42" 1080p HDTV using the HDMI connector. The funny thing is changing my resolution worked perfectly until I had to format my hard drive today. I tried using older versions of my video drivers and it still didnt work, should I bother going back further on the drivers or is there something im missing here?

A:Driver Issue?

Right click the desk top in an open area. Then go down list and click Nvidia control panel.

Highlight the monitor or tv if you are using both choose TV. Select the HD resolution you want.
Now if using as a monitor you may have to use a PC resolution- not sure on that.

A monitor hooked up you highlight the monitor and select PC resolution.

I'm not using TV set up but I show a 720 and 1080 option in Nvidia control panel with my GTX460.

This is the PCI bus 0, device 1, function 3 position and it's being called MSI-Nvidia ram controller. It may be nothing but I've had an ongoing issue with a start up BSOD that when it works through (about 40 clean boot to 60 BSOD before Win 7 log in screen, but music into plays thru speakers. You used a different disc and the WORKED? Yer the MAN.

Yes, search the motherboard or OEM Mfr for updated and correct drivers. But heck, if it's working, there's certainly no hurry. You might encounter an unexpected problem later--so it's advisable to install the correct drivers.
