Cd/dvd Drivers Will Not Load At Startup, Help!

Q: Cd/dvd Drivers Will Not Load At Startup, Help!

I came back from vacation, opened my laptop, and clicked on my computer. Only the "c" drive showed up. There was no icon for my CD/DVD drive. Put a CD in and nothing happened. Went to device manager and it said This device cannot start (code 10). I called Toshiba since my note is new and he had me go thru the regisrty editor and delete an upper filter, whatever that is. I restarted and everything was fine. It worked.
Next day, no CD/DVD icon in my computer. Any ideas?

A: Cd/dvd Drivers Will Not Load At Startup, Help!

Does your laptop include one of those horrendous manufacturer-created "recovery partitions"? Because manufacturers are so cheap, nowadays, many of them don't include any physical media with the PC. Rather, they create a proprietary image of what used to be an actual "recovery CD/DVD" and save it to an "invisible" partition, usually situated immediately before what Windows marks the C: drive.

I'm not sure that it's relevant; I'm just curious. I have had problems with drives/letter assignments due to these manufacturer-supplied recovery partitions.

A few times over the last couple years, seemingly randomly, windows will get into a consistent state where it won't receive input from the keyboard after it starts up and is at the login screen. This will last around 30 seconds.
I have a CM Storm Quickfire TK brown keyboard, which works fine.
The mouse works. A Roccat Kone XTD.
I've tried other ports, i've tried some settings in the bios such as fastboot, usb legacy support, usb initialization, etc, but they don't help at all.

So this leads me to believe that windows just doesn't know that there's a keyboard giving it input for a while after startup. Unfortunately, I don't have another keyboard to test this.
It used to be that the keyboard's backlight would come on before the monitor would automatically display the hdmi input after the windows startup, and i could type in my password and log in within seconds after boot. When the monitor displays a few seconds later, I would already be on the desktop...

Any idea why this is occurring?

You can check if there is a service for your keyboard with delayed automatic.
Also try uninstall and re-install keyboard software.

It seems that you cant load drivers in the windows 8 startup menu/troubleshoot menu. If you have a OS drive that requires a driver to see (raid controller, some SSD's, sata controller, etc), then you cant use the windows 8 startup troubleshooting tools. There is no option in the menu to load drivers and therefor every recovery tool in the menu fails.

While the majority of computers don't need to load drivers to see the main boot drive, a fair amount do, so this lack of ability to load drivers to see it confuses me. I feel like I must be missing something. I even looked at trying to load drivers from the command prompt, but its not available with the tools in the troubleshoot environment.

I did find a "way" to get the recovery tools to work on drives that need drivers. Grab the windows 8 disk and proceed with an install until it asks you to load drivers for drives. After you load the driver, cancel out of the install which will bring you back to the start of the windows install disk which has a "repair my computer" option. That option loads an identical troubleshoot environment, but now has access to the drive thanks to the install processes "load driver" option.

The biggest problem with that tho is, not only do you need to have the install disk, but you also need your serial key so that you can proceed to the install point that has the option to load the drivers. If you come across a machine that someone has asked you to fix, what are the ... Read more

Hi, I like to believe I'm kinda tech savvy. I'll start by saying that my old 19" monitor went out and now I have a 32" dell monitor I'm using. Every time I update my video drivers to most current and then restart comp for them to take full effect, it will go through the green microsoft loading bar and then screen goes to self test, Yet there is still a windows sound and I can even log in, but no video for these parts. I can go into safe mode perfectly fine. I can even uninstall my video drivers and I'm capable of starting normal mode fine. Only when I update drivers do I have this problem. I have done alot of troubleshooting to try to get this monitor to work with my computer, searched on several different search engines for a solution to this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm seeing several error messages in the event log and I'm unsure which one is the actual crashing of the comp, so I'll be back to post that info. Thanks for your time and help!

HI,

Got a really annoying problem. I am having a dual boot machine with Win7 and Kubuntu 10.04 x64. For some reason every time I have been in Kubuntu and try to reboot into Windows, either a lot drivers fail to load at startup and I have to reboot (which normally leads to everything being okay) or Windows crashes doing startup. I have tried to run Chkdsk, which says everything is okay and sfc /scannow which also says everything is okay. After one crash I tried to start up in 'recovery mode' but Windows were unable to repair what ever the problem was. There does not seems to be any problem with Kubuntu!
Anyone having similar problems?
Any help would be really appriciated
Thanks

Since window (SFC, and chkdsk) seem to indicate Win 7 is ok, and Kubuntu also seems ok, I suspect it is in the boot loader. What/how are you picking the active OS?

I had to reinstall windows Vista Business on an Acer Aspire AX1200-U1640A 2GB install went well but when I tried to set up my internet, wireless did not show, I called my internet provider we tried to set it up as broadband but that didn't work either. It seems I do not have the drivers for the Ethernet Controller and other things listed under other devices see pictures in attached document. Since I do not have the internet on that computer, I downloaded the Ethernet driver from Acer to a jump drive but I cannot get it to work. Please advise for all "other devices" with the same problem. I was wondering what the difference was whether you had a program load at startup (by checking a box within the program to have it load when the computer boots) and unchecking that box but moving a shortcut to the programs executable into the startup folder on the start menu.

Is there any difference?

Recently I have decided to update the USB 3.0 drivers on my MSI Z97 PC MATE motherboard as it turned out that they weren't installed, and because I bought a USB 3.0 memory stick. When I just got this motherboard I didn't install them as after doing so I got a BSOD and had to do a system restore. Now that I've seen that a newer version is available, I decided to update along side my BIOS and other drivers. The updates went find with no problems, and the USB 3.0 ports are working great.

However, every time I start up my PC there's like a 10 second delay before I can use anything connected to the USB ports, which is rather annoying as some of my programs rely on some of the USB devices to be connected at startup, so I have to configure them one by one manually after startup. What has also happened is that the desktop icon positions aren't saving, and nor is the position/size of windows.

I'm thinking that it may have also been something to do with the registry as I cleaned it with CCleaner (not a good idea, it broke my Chrome updates a while ago). Can anyone please help? I'm really out of options and this is really annoying me. So far I tried to make it so that all of the USB related services are run automatically on startup, I tried restoring the old registry... Perhaps there's a way to fix it? Any help is appreciated!

I was actually getting ready to post here about my x00000124 problem but reading other posts realized that my motherboard drivers were freakishly out of date (2006 versions, forgot about them last time I was installing a system). I dled all new ones, installed them all, performed a restart and then used newly installed ASUS Suite to update my BIOS.

Not sure if that's relevant, but after that last successful startup there was a bunch on popups asking for promision to launch several application (related to the driver update I imagine). I agreed to all of those and nothing beyond that happened.
I did not restart computer again before performing BIOS upgrade.

BIOS itself seems to work just fine.

When I attempted to start system with new BIOS my computer restarts about 1 sec after starting animation begins. I can only launch it in "Startup Repair" mode and it communicates that automatic repair was impossible. For those reasons i can't provide that archive with dumps and whatnot. Safe Mode isn't working either.

I'll rewrite problem signature "System Repair" provided:

Very strange, but I can't download anything fron the Apple site. My screen goes white ((everytring is there but it gets very liight, the download circle keeps going around and that's as far as I can get.) I do not have this problem with other sites.

I downloaded itunes from the Apple site thru another computer onto a disk and reinstalled it on my PC. I was then able to reset the ipod to factory settings.
The ipod is fully charged
I reset the ipod itself. The "R" thing.
I've used differnt ports for the cable. Windows recognizes the Ipod as it beeps when I hook it up and it allowed me to reset to factory settings.
I tunes does not recognize the Ipod for downloading.
I have not signed up to buy music from itunes.. Is this the cause?

The Nano has not been used for a long time but worked fine when last used.

I'm using a Dell desktop w/ vista home premium.
It is supposed to be a simple idiot proof gadget and any help would be appreciated.

I have an old laptop with Windows 98, and it has a USB port on it. On two occasions, I have tried to put in a piece of hardware (one time, an SD card reader, the second, a USB flash drive) through the USB Port. Each time, the computer recognized it, but stated that it needed to find the driver software, which at the time I did not have, so I unplugged the hardware and shut the computer down. When I had the software ready, I plugged the hardware into the USB, and the computer gives no message to install the hardware. What do I do to get the drivers loaded and for the system to recognize the hardware?

A:USB won't load drivers on second try

You may have to plug the device in again, remove it from Device Manager, then reboot and do the installation properly by installing the drivers first. Windows has remembered the device and won't allow the different drivers to install.

I hope this is W98SE, not plain W98, because you could have other issues in that case.

I'm running Pentium 233mhz, 196mg ram, 14gig HD, have an Adaptec SCSI card. An Omega Zip Drive and a HP ScanJet 5p run off the SCSI card.

The HP ScanJet 5p was working properly when I was running Win. 95. I reformatted the HD and put on Win. 98 Second Edition and the scanner ran properly. I was having some difficulty with some stuff and reformatted the HD a second time and reloaded Win. 98 Second Edition and the scanner worked properly. Then, my son downloaded some DOS drivers for a game of his and we started have some problems with the system so, we reformated the HD, reloaded Win. 98 Second Edition but, this time the drivers for the scanner wouldn't load. the software to make copies, scan documents etc. loaded but when I tried to use them it said scanner couldn'

I restarted the computer and it saw the new scanner and asked to load the drivers so I go through the process and when it ask where to look for the drivers I check CD Rom and it says Windows didn't find any drives for the scanner. But, when you open the CD disk you can open the drivers file and everything is there.

I have tried different ways of loading the drivers with the scanner hooked up, not hooked up, uninstalled the program, reinstalled the program, loaded the driver file into a seperate folder under MY DOCUMENTS and tried loading from there. I even downloaded HP DeskScan 2.9 and Precission Scan 1.0 and in both cases Windows says it can't find the drives.

maybe you guys can help me out w/ my current problem. i'm running windows xp and when i start my comp i get a little message above my task bar that says something along the lines of "cd recording software will make windows unstable. windows has prevented these drivers from loading." and so i can't use my cd-rw drive. not to burn cd's anyway. it works in every other aspect, i just can't burn anything w/ it.

i've downloaded the newest drivers for every piece of software on my comp that might be able to burn a cd and for the burner itself and still i can't get it to work.

i don't know if this will have anything to do w/ it or not, but i recently bought a new maxtor 40gig hard drive and installed it. i never had this problem w/ xp before i bought this hard drive, but i don't see how the hard drive would be a factor in my problem.

Hi,
I installed Windows 7 Professional over the weekend and after installing all the Windows updates the computer ran extremely well. Today, I installed Office 2007 and didn't have any problems. When I turned off the computer there were about 20 updates for Office that got automatically installed.

When I turned on the computer again, the starting process was painfully slow, and the display resolution was not correct. On the Device Manager, the display adapter includes the correct NVIDIA adapter but there is a warning "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" (But it worked fine before I turned it off!) If I update the driver software, it says that the one I have is up to date! This also occurs with the coprocessor.

Any help would really appreciated.

A:Windows 7 does not load some drivers

Use a system restore point to before you did the updates.

Install them one at a time after, if you want to narrow down to which one caused it. If you don't want to do that, just don't install any updates.

Hello All,
I am having some trouble lately with my USB ports. I recently had the Agent2 Trojan, and in the process of removing it, it seemed to damage some things. After several restarts, updates, virus checks, everything was fixed except for the USB ports (which randomly stopped functioning). I am getting these error in device manager:

Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller - Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. (code 39)
Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller - Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. (code 39)

I have a Abit KN9 motherboard with a Nvidia nForce 570 SLI chipset. I have already tried updating the chipset (but it appears the USB driver is a windows driver, and is not contained in the chipset drivers). I'm running XP sp3 and windows update does not list the drivers. It seems if I could just download and replace the drivers (from Microsoft I assume) it would solve the problem - but I cannot find them anywhere. I have searched Microsoft's website, and just about every other website for these files with no luck. This is my last resort!

Any ideas would be very helpful. Thank you very much for reading.

HP dc7600sff computer came from an auction wiped clean. I installed XP Pro SP3 and all updates plus MSE and activated.

My problem is that I cannot install the needed drivers (which are already downloaded), the message "Cannot instal drivers. No Intel adapters are present" appears every time I try. Googling seems to offer no solution.

To get where I am I installed a third party network card for downloading but that offers no fix for the rest of the Intel drivers. Also it is a full height LAN card butchered to fit the small form factor case, not a permanent fix.

Using a live Puppy Linux CD all original equipment works great so I do not think there are hardware issues.

Windows XP Professional
Version 2002
Svc. Pack 2
448 MB Ram
Intel Desktop Boards

Upon reboot there are no options for safe mode. I was finally able to get the thing to go into safe mode, however in the process I think I messed something up. Because now none of the drivers for games or anything will load at all. And when you look at Device Manager there is nothing listed. So I cant see if there are any conflicts..etc. I tried rolling it back to a prior date and that did not fix the issue. Like I said before upon reboot the only options are Restart,Shut Down or Standby. Even when the thing is in safe mode you still cannot view anything under Device Manager . So my dillemma is that I cannot fix it or return it to a normal state where he can play his games. Does anyone have any idea on what I can try to fix it? Or should I just chunk it? I bought it used and I dont have the Windows XP CD with it to even reinstall if I wanted to ever so bad. I thought about just erasing the harddrive and reinstalling windows but I have no clue how to do so and I dont want to mess the thing up worse than what it already is. Would appreciate some advice.

I can't load load my network drivers for the life of me!!! I've tried everything except a reformat!

Here's the problem. It all started out with Zone Alarm. I tried upgrading it without doing a clean install (big freaking mistake). It took my networking controllers with it that time and my Internet wouldn't work, so I did a system restore point back to the point where my network drivers were working fine and it worked. BUT HERE IS WHERE IT ALL WENT WRONG! I wanted to upgrade my OS and install windows service pack 1 for Vista on it, so I uninstalled Zone Alarm because it wasn't working properly and then I was going to install Zone Alarm again after I installed service pack 1. WELL THAT JUST MESSED EVERYTHING UP! When I uninstalled Zone Alarm it took my network drivers with it and when I tried to install service pack1 it erased all my system restore points. I GOT SCREWED! Not only would service pack 1 not install because of the problem, I couldn't get back my network drivers because I had no good restore points.

I've tried everything from downloading the drivers from and different computer and transferring them onto my computer to doing a full upgrade reinstall!!! I've been working on this for days.

The easy answer to this solution is a full reformat. -But listen folks... I have so many programs and so much data on my pc that I don't want to reformat my drive. I plan on getting a back-up hard drive and load windows onto that, but I just want to see if any of you geniuse... Read more

background: I have a PC that does not have proper chipset (no USB) / LAN drivers.
this means when windows loads I cannot use any USB devices and my NIC doesn't connect as it doesn't have a proper driver. so...basically I can't do anything.

I would think that USB drivers would be pretty universal by now. Just about every motherboard on the planet uses one of a hand full of USB controllers and those drivers are included with Windows driver base. I'm sure you've probably done this but I'll ask anyway. Have you gone into the BIOS and verified that USB is enabled? May also want to check to see if USB Legacy support is enabled too? If you can't get into the BIOS with your USB keyboard I would reset the BIOS to defaults with the motherboard jumper.

I have also went to Dell's website from another computer and downloaded all the drivers and saved them to an external hard drive, but when I plug the external hard drive into my computer and try to open them up on my computer I get an error message that says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You man not have the appropriate permissions to access teh item". I am able to run some other .EXE files, but these will not open for some reason. It's like the computer doesn't recognize the files. I'm unable to get my DSL hooked up to the computer because it will not read the ethernet port. It seems that I don't have access to some folders or something and I'm not sure why the drivers will not execute. Can anyone please help me with this problem?? Thanks!!!

Welcome to TSF....

The Dell recovery disk set you used was it the correct one for the model of Dell you have?

Did you run the recovery disk thru booting up the computer or thru windows itself?

2000 recognizes that i have cd and cd-rw drives in device manager, but they both have problems with them. for both it says that windows cannot load the required drivers because there is a problem with an associated device. however, device manager doesn't show any other problems.

i also have win98 on my computer, and both drives work there. but not in 2000--there is power to both drives, but i can't run any cd's.

i've tried removing and reinstalling the drives numerous times in both operating systems--doesn't work. i've contacted the drive manufacturer, they think it's a windows problem...i don't know what to do anymore

Ok, my laptop got infected with a trojan. So, I used a combination of SpyBot, Adaware, and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to remove it. They did what they could and I restarted the computer but explorer was infected. So, windows would not let it run. What I had to do was Ctrl+Alt+Del it to get the task manager and close some programs (the only name I remeber is reader_s) and then in the task manager tell it to run explorer. I ran the programs again, along with combofix and a Vundo trojan remover (at first it said the trojan was not found then it was found then it was not found I ran it three times). I repeated this a few more times, Teatimer and Adaware would block keys from being added back and programs from restarting, and eventually everything was fine. Now Adaware was down to finding only 3 problems. So I resarted in Safe Mode hoping that would help and had it remove what it could find. This time it did not require a reboot. I also used System restore to restore to a time before the infection. That is where the problem happened. When I restarted the computer it said that it could Not Restore the computer to a previous time and no changes were made but there were changes made. When the computer starts none of the drivers load. So, the computer says I have no sound/video/ethernet card etc. But when I go to them it says the audio devices and what not are functioning normally. I also tried to reinstall the drivers but it won't let me open instalation programs or the cd burner. Now... Read more

Hi,Unfortunately I have some bad news, your computer is infected with Virut.Virut is capable of infecting all the machine's executable files (.exe) and screensaver files (.scr). However, the problem is that the virus has a number of bugs in its code, and as a result, it may misinfect a proportion of executable files and therefore, the files are corrupted beyond repair. As of now, security experts suggest that a format and clean install, or destructive recovery if you have an OEM recovery partition, is the best way to clean the infection and it is the best way to return the machine to its normal working state.Backup all your documents and important items (personal data, work documents, etc) only. DO NOT backup any executable files (software) and screensavers (*.scr). It attempts to infect any accessed .exe or .scr files by appending itself to the executable. Also, avoid backing up compressed files (zip/cab/rar) files that have .exe or .scr files inside them. Virut can penetrate and infect .exe files inside compressed files too.I don't feel there is any point in trying to clean this machine. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that's how I see it.You can read more about it here if you want; http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/2009/02/vir...s-throwing.htmlIf you have any questions let me know.

Need help here.
I've got a XP Home box that has a yellow question mark by the nic under device manager. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times to no avail: driver installs and XP says it was successful and needs to reboot. After reboot same error (yellow question mark) in device manager. The nic is onboard and I have tried disabling it in the bios, adding a new nic in one of the pci slots and I get the same error; yesterday, I bought a usb nic and it is the same as well. Short of a reinstall of XP, what could be so hosed up that I can't load drivers for a nic? I have googled it, but nothing similar was found.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello all,

I am trying to load a mobile broadband dongle onto my laptop.

However it will not load the drivers from the dongle. I am pretty sure it is because I am not an administrator of the laptop.

As I am installing the dongle it tries to load and download the drivers however I get an access denied.

I have tried to log on locally using net user administrator/:yes and I also get access denied.

I do not know the admin password (it's a work laptop) however most of my colleagues have loaded a dongle with no issue.

I have also tried to manually transfer the drivers from one laptop to another ! however they still will not copy.

Any help is muchhhh appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Anyone ever heard of this? Possible this is related to a know virus or malware? I've gone as far as reloading the OS (with format) but still get the same behavior.

Are you sure you're doing the install correctly? Often you have to run the setup program on the CD, and only then connect the adapter when notified that it is time to do so.

Hi all,

Well after finally getting win update working fully by refreshing my win8 on my new HP box, I did more windows updates yesterday. Since then, I've lost the ability to install new apps, control panel crashes from Programs & Features, Devices & Printers, and other various places. All web browsers randomly crash (I'm lucky this one has lasted long enough to type this), I can't print, and I've lost the HP software app that checks for updates and give status on my box.

HP tried to install 3 important updates right before I did the windows updates. They failed (I know one was a BIOS update). I haven't been able to get it to try running again. I've tried going through the HP support site, but can't install anything I download from there.

Unfortunately, the only error refs I have are generic dialogs telling me things failed. Other times, things simply vanish - eg, start a run & install fine and then the dialog closes and nothing else happens. Of the 14 windows updates I did install yesterday, the only system one was KB 2770816. All the others were Office-specific.

This is really insane. Help again? Anyone? Please? Pretty please?

Thanks so much.

A:KB 2770816 - can't load drivers, do installs, etc

I recently removed the ethernet card from my PC, no longer have high speed cable internet. Installed a new modem but the computer doesn't find the drivers, even with the CD setup. I have Windows 98. Several years ago, when the ethernet card was installed, we had to remove my modem due to conflict. I have a new PCI Creative Blaster 56kV.90 modem. The D:\ recognizes the CD intall disc, so think the CD D:\ is working. I've reinstalled Windows 98 (without reformatting C:\) but didn't help. Don't see any IRQ conflicts. Hi,

When I try to install windows 7 it asks me where to install but it comes up with

"No drives were found. Click Load Drivers to provide a mass storage driver for installation"
My pc is a Acer Aspire ax3300 Desktop
In the Advanced BIOS Features the 1st Boot Device shows:

HDD :P1 -WDC WD6400AkS-22A7B2

I am trying to install windows because I tried factory restoring and the upstairs electric switch just happened to switch off and when i turned back on i got the following message on the black screen:

/Windows/system32/winload.exe

status: 0xc000000f

Info: The selected entry could not be located because the application is missing or corrupt

I managed to get it up and running with usb booting and then I started to install the drivers as the Hard drive deleted everything on it, so it did not have any Acer software. When I installed a few drivers it started to crash every 30 seconds and would take 1 minute until I could move the mouse, then it would do the exact thing.

I don't know what I can do but I have took the SATA cables? out of the hard drive and waited 20 minutes, put them back in but the same thing happens. I have clicked the load Default settings on the CMOS Set up Utility but that hasn't done anything either...

Help would be appreciated thanks.

A:No drivers were found click load... Also what I have tried to do.

If there are further probs I'd test my HD to make sure its not been damaged. Use the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan which can repair problems and let you know its condition. After the scan wipe the HD, reset the BIOS to defaults and try again.

Why were you installing Drivers? Win7 is driver-complete with newer arriving quickly after install via optional Windows Updates once you connect to the internet. This is not XP. Follow these steps to get a perfect reinstall of Factory OEM: Reinstalling Windows 7

Hey guys,

So i'm using the windows ISO creation download..

I am installing windows 8.1 core on a Lenovo y410p..
hwinfo 64 says this for chipset: Intel HM86 (Lynx Point)

Once I reboot to start the process of Installing windows, around the point of when I format the drive to ready it, there is an option to "load drivers" before the actual install..

Can/Do I use the "load drivers" before I actually install windows? Ive seen that button but never really used it. Is that what that is for, to install chipset drivers I downloaded or something?

A:Load Drivers before installing Windows..

I've never had to use that myself, if it asks for drivers that would the time to use it otherwise just do the install and update/install drivers after.

As long as you are connected to the internet windows will find any drivers it needs to complete the install.

Since then my dell laptop seems to be running fine, insofar as I can start up and do most everything except there is no sound at all. While trying to figure out what is wrong with the sound I ran dxdiag, and then the event viewer.

I was reading a tweaking site and it was talking about how you could trim vista down to add some space to your HDD. WELL, seeing how Im the type of person who doesnt like unused files on my computer I went along with it and deleted the folder...

c:\windows\system32\driverstore

all was well until I bought a new USB stick drive. suddenly vista couldnt find the driver for it. so i went to my wife computer (also has vista) copied her c:\windows\system32\driverstore and put it back on my machine....but no luck....so then I copied her c:\windows\system32\drivers folder and put it on my machine....still no luck...

anyway to make a long store short....my vista wont or cant find any drivers for new USB devices....especially ones that do not come with any software.

I wrote the USB Stick Drive vendor (Kingston) and they said there are no drivers to download from them as vista should automatically recognize and load one of its default drivers...etc...

anyway...anyone know how to reverse my stupidity?

Hi Currysteph,

Welcome to the Forum.
Try to repair Vista using this tutorial, if it won't help re-install your OS. It will work for sure, but first get bigger drive if your current setup is too small for you.

Hi, I'm going to say what my problem is and if anyone could help me figure out how to resolve it I would very much appreciate it. To start off, I recently posted a thread because I needed to reinstall system32\hal.dll and system32\ntoskrnl.exe, if it would help someone to see that thread to have some background on my current issue, here's the link: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/720406-system32-hal-dll-missing-corrupt.html
Towards the end of that thread I start to describe my current issue. Here's the status on my issue as of right now. When I turn on my computer, it goes to a screen that looks like this:

Hi all, i am new to this forum so please forgive me if i am posting in the wrong section.
i need a little help to resolve my hard drive fault: i have been reading quite a lot about the fault and understand what is wrong, however i cannot move forward untill i resolve the drivers loading issue..so to explain where i am and what my issue is; i will start with my system and then the fault and how it developed.

1. 1720 ispiron laptop with Vista home premium installed, 320 gig hard drive 2 gig of memory..a std machine basically.
2. The hard drive failed to boot after a simple lid shut, safe mode is not bootable
3. error code is 2000-0142 self test fail..
4. error code 0f00:1344 uncorrectable data error
i belive that this type of error can be fixed with Check disk! unfortunatly the recovery option cannot see my c: drive and allow me to run it through the command promt option.
The repair option wants me to load the drivers to see the hard drive!! which i have found on the support disk and identified as i1386\R154200\IAAHCI.inf
This is my issue now...the driver fails to load and i cannot move past this point, can anyone assist me with this issue?

Regards Ray

A:recovery options load drivers

Quick update on this issue, i have been into Bios and changed the Sata setting to ATA, this has had no effect, however i have managed to get rid of the "failed to load driver" dialouge box, i.e. the drivers appear to load but the C: drive still will not show, if no replies are forthcoming then i will have to assume that the hard drive is truly tattered.

A buddy of mine brought his computer to me yesterday because it was blue screening. After backing up all of his personal files I formatted the drive and re-installed XP pro. I actually still had a copy of all the drivers the mobo needed from the last install I'd done for him (he loves his online poker!) so I loaded them on to my USB flash drive and tried installing from there.

The ethhernet gave me an error saying there was a file that couldn't be found (at work and don't have the exact error on hand sorry)
and then when I tried installing the audio it gets to 94% complete and then just stops. I copied all the files to the computer's desktop but still get the same results. I can't update the SP without internet and I can' t get internet with no drivers. Help?

A:Clean install now drivers won't load

Would it be possible to update the service pack by downloading it on another computer, burning it to CD and installing from that CD?

Can you give us some specifics about the computer: Manufacturer, model, what hardware?

These would help us help you.

Hi,
I have been trying for several days to install a webcam and a wireless dongle on my Windows 8 PC. I know I have the software and drivers for both - I have the disks and/or updates from Manufacturers sites. When I install I get the message that Windows is unable to find the drivers. When I "point" windows in the right direction I generally get the message "The configuration registry database is corrupt". At the beginning of my attempts to load the hardware I did get a message that windows could not load the drivers because windows update was set not to install driver updates. I haven't seen this message since. I have googled and read lots of advice but so far nothing that helps.
I would be grateful for any help.
Thanks

In many cases drivers wont load because windows was not ready for them, do the windows updates first and either windows will load the drivers automatically or will lay the foundation for your drivers via chipset updates or other means..

First of all thats a great forum you have here and it was very helpful for me sometimes. Well, I am an old notebook user and an eGPU user.

I would like to use a specific driver but when I don't have my eGPU connected the driver causes BSODs. Is it possible to have to bootup options one with the driver loaded and one without. I googled about that a lot but I wouldn't find anything. I even willing to upgrade to windows 7 Ultimate if it won't work on Home Premium

I thought that this is the specific place to ask things like that and I hope that you would help me.

Thanks for your answers in advance

A:Can I select which drivers to load each time?

Hi timohour and welcome to SF!
The only way I can think of right now would be this:
Go in your start box and type services.msc run it as administrator,
scroll down the list of drivers until you find the one in question, right click it go to properties and set
Startup Type from Automatic to Manual
That way windows can load the driver whenever it's needed.

I formatted a hard drive discarded by someone else because they had no more need for it. I formatted it by slaving it to my hard drive and formatting through a command window. Now I have a newly formatted, clean hard drive and want to install WinXP onto it however, I need to initialize my CD when I turn on the computer. I can remember, years ago, doing this by creating an autoexec.bat file and writing 3 or 4 lines in it, creating a config.sys file with 2 or 3 lines in it, putting both files onto a floppy together with a driver for the CD drive and booting from that floppy. The CD driver was picked up by via instruction in either or both the autoexec.bat and/or the config.sys files and I was off and running with a workable CD for OS installs. Am I remembering this correctly? and if I am, what are the lines I want to write in the autoexec.bat and the config.sys files? Does anyone have any better/other suggestions on getting my CD running so I can install WinXP on this clean hard drive?

A:Clean drive, how do I load CD drivers?

If you are loading XP you should have much trouble, go into the BIOS and set it to boot to your CD drive. Put the CD in and restart the computer it should fire right off.

My CD/RW Drive stopped working and I had it replaced under warranty at Best Buy. When I received my computer back and started it, only the clock and volume icon showed on the tray. I checked msconfig startup tab and found they had unchecked all the items listed there. I know enough to check my anti-virus program, but being new, I'm at a loss as to what else to check. Does anyone know where I can find out which if any of the other items I should check to load at startup?

Hi,
I'm having a problem with catalyst drivers. I installed Win7 32-bit yesterday and everything was working fine until I installed catalyst control center, which now causes the system to stay stuck on the blue windows wallpaper without explorer or mouse cursor. I can get to safe mode and perform a system recovery, then I can boot normally. I also tried multiple versions of drivers, but it always does the same thing. Im using Radeon HD5770, Gigabyte P43T-ES3G Mobo, Intel Core2Quad 2,5 GHz (not sure about the exact model number) and 4 GB Ram. Everything worked fine before reinstalling windows and my system specs are exactly the same as they were before. Any ideas? Thanks.

I recently built a new computer using the Asus Rampage II Gene motherboard, which uses the ICH10R southbridge and the Intel Matrix Storage Raid controller. Something happened in transport where the setting in the BIOS got reset from RAID mode to IDE mode and now after switching it back to RAID mode the boot process cannot find a bootable device. I checked the bootup priority manager to make sure that was not the issue. I have been trying to use Windows 7 startup repair to fix this problem, but when I attempt to load the x64 RAID drivers for the Intel Matrix Storage controller, Windows install attempts to load them, but then errors out saying "Failed to load driver". I am almost 100% certain these are the correct drivers since I downloaded them from my motherboard's product webpage. I have also tried the most recent drivers directly from Intel. I have tried the other drivers that come with the download for other southbridge's, and I have also tried running Windows 7 x86 install and using the 32-bit drivers, all with the same result. Does anyone have any idea what might be going wrong or how to get around this? My computer is essentially unusable in this state and I would really like to avoid having to reinstall Windows.

I'm getting an error when I try to install windows 7 onto my Samsung ultrabook, here's a link to the laptop:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model...template_id=1&region_id=1&tab=howto#/howtoTab

The error reads "No drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation." I know this same error has come up many many times before and I've been reading countless posts on how people have found solutions to the problem, however it seems none of these solutions work for me.

Known common solutions:
1) Set hard drive to IDE if it was on SATA in the bios
2) Set to RAID in bios
3) Connect USB stick to a 2.0 port
4) Use gpart or a program of the sort to go in and delete the existing partitions, then re-run setup.
5) Find the drivers for chipset or Mass Storage drivers and use them during set up.
6) Open cmd window from repair and use diskpart

Why these don't work for me:
1) My bios doesn't even give me the option to set it to IDE. The bios itself is super simple, nothing like I've ever seen since it barley includes any options. I can however see that it recognizes my 500gb hard drive, thouch there is no way it will let me change any setting about it.
2) Again I don't even have the option in my bios
3) I'm already doing this.
4) I've delete all and tried to use unallocated space for the install, and also tried making an ntfs partition. Still the drive doesn't show.
5) the drivers i found... Read more

Good day,

I reinstalled XP on my Dell Dimension 4600 using the Operating System disk Dell sent me. Now, I'm trying to install the drivers with the Drivers and Utilities disk Dell sent me; however, nothing happens when I load the CD. Other audio CD's load although I don't have sound so I'm unable to play them, but at least they're detected unlike the Drivers and Utilities disk. In Device Manager, Samsung CD-ROM SC-148C is listed. There are no red marks or other warning signs that indicate something could be wrong. The desktop doesn't have Internet yet. I know I can go to the Dell site and download the drivers but I'm unsure which drivers to download as some of the drivers say recommended and others say optional. Also, I need to know the exact order to install the drivers if I choose to go this route; however, I would really like to use the disk since I paid for it, and I'll install the right drivers for sure if I use the disk. Dell support wants to charge $89 to help me since my warranty expired.

Why was I able to install the operating system using a disk and I'm not able to install the drivers and utilities with a disk? What can I do so the CD will install the drivers?

Note: I first installed a new hard drive because I had a virus, then I reinstalled XP.

Thank you in advance for your help.

A:Reinstalled XP, Drivers & Utilities disk won't load

Can you try it in another computer??? I would venture to say you recieved a bum disk and if that is the case they should replace it for free. if you go to the down load section and use your service tag it should bring up the drivers for your system. If there are optional ones ignore them at first. I always install the chipset drivers first and reboot. Then I install the rest of the drivers in one big batch before rebooting. After that don't forget to do your windows updates which will take a while.

usb picks up other devices just fine.
wireless usb works fine on other win 7 x64 system.

for the past week the wireless would shut down(no wireless device detected until reboot) if i tried to plug in too many usb devices...

it seems like it is trying upon reboot because the wireless icon comes up in the task bar with the blue circle spinning and then the no connections are available icon comes on.

ex: netgear wbna3100 usb, with latest driver, plugged usb as instructed and it tries to install driver, device driver not successfully installed...
it states 'remote download wirelss adapter"\' in device manager.

tried different usb ports too.

same thing in safe mode: wireless icon comes up, circle, thwan icon with red line in task bar.

wlan autoconfig servive : was on manual, i set it to auto

a/v came up clean.

Any help appreciated.

Why did you try to use an usb wifi ? for the speed connection? for the 801 -b/g/n that is not supported by your wifi internal card or to change mac for hacking ? - is a joke . For what you say the problem is the computer or laptop - that must have some good years. Your wifi has an usb 3.0 meanwhile the pc has all the usb working as 2.0. And even if normally nothing happens ,some pc has this problem. I would also think about net discovery if is on and dhcp enabled or disabled- maybe you must setup manual the ip ,the gateway for making the device working. But is not sure that what i say could help.Yesterday i setup a t-link tl 5220g -is a repetition wifi for extern house and i have to setup the dhcp on my lan card.Try also do dissalow your ipv6 from your lan card to see what happens. And the firewall for windows -usualy on the wifi cause problem .I also could give you some command just for try :
netsh int ip reset c: \ Resetlog.txt -riassign all the ip connection,
netsh interface ipv4 reset
netsh interface ipv6 reset
netsh winsock reset
ipconfig /flushdns
and go also to Windows\system32\driver\etc\hosts ,to see if you have some blocked ip.

Hello,
I have a thread in the hardware section, but I think my problem is more of a driver issue. I am running windows 7 x64 ultimate edition. My epson artisan 810 causes any program to hang when I try to print from it. It worked fine since march of 2010 when it and the computer were purchased. It has only been the last 6-7 weeks that the problem started. I have downloaded the newest drivers from epson's website (for win 7 x64), and tried both the network and usb instal several times. I have installed the printer successfully on another machine running windows xp sp2 and it worked fine.

The event log is showing a few printer related errors. I do not know how to post the event log here, but the errors include 808 and 215.

I would really appreciate any help

Thanks,
Justin

I've purchased a new motherboard (MSI KT4V) that came pre-built with an Athlon XP2400+ processor and 256mb PC2700 RAM - all of it soak tested prior to delivery. The problem I'm having is with the graphics card (an old Gainward GEForce2 MX). Basically, Windows won't load up in anything other than 640x480 with 16 colours. I've tried re-seating the card, reinstalling the drivers (both old and newest versions), deleted the card in Device Manager and let windows auto-detect it on reboot (done all this and variations numerous times, including installing them in safe mode etc). I've reinstalled Windows twice, run diagnoistics on the memory, on the motherboard (both using Norton Diagnostics - yeah a bit crap, but that's all I've got), checked the CPU temperature, fan speed, checked the AGP speed in the BIOS (it's 4x - which matches what graphics card), checked for conflicts - basically done everything I can think of. The only bit I can't do is checks using Motherboard Monitor as it won't load up in 16 colours.

The only area I'm left with is the Power Supply. It's a Macron 300W which throws out the following:

+5v = 30A
+12v = 10A
+3.3v = 14A

I've unplugged everything in the case but the Hard Drive and still no luck. The previous spec of my PC was a AMD Duron 700mhz on an EPOX8KTA board.

In one of this month's PC magazines they have similar spec PCs fully loaded, often with 300W power supplies - and they seem to... Read more

I just purchased a new HP Laserjet M477 which works great. I sucessfully installed the drivers on two of my three Windows 10 computers.  On the third, my Lenovo Yoga 900, the install seems to go fine,  the installer tells me the printer has been found on my wireless network,  it says it's about  to print a test page.  I click "OK"  then suddenly the installer says "Web Services Failure" and stops.   The printer is not installed and no drivers appear on my Yoga. I think the web services are working fine on my printer.  I can send a print job to its 'web page' on any other computer and it prints just fine.  It's just this one computer that seems to not accept the drivers. I could not install the drivers for my older wireless Canon inkjet printer either just on this one machine!  Is there something going on with the Yoga and wireless printers!? I'd appreciate any ideas.  Thank you all. -Alan

I was infected with Virtumonde and other trojans several days ago, and have spent a good deal of effort removing it, including Symantec, CWSshredder, Ad-aware, Spybot, Anti-Malware. It appears to be gone but with residual effect the Intel PRO/100 VE integrated adapter won't load its drivers.

In device manager, I get all yellow bangs for the adapter entries. I have tried many things, including manually uninstalling them (they get found again, but drivers won't load), updating drivers, disabling the adapter in BIOS, rebooting, re-enabling, rebooting, etc. All I get are error messages that the drivers are corrupt or missing (but they're not). Help; my windows xp keeps telling me there is a problem with loading the driver for a new memory stick. I have tried a few brands of stick and I get the same thing. It won't load the driver. I have tried manual download of drivers but xp won';t let me do that either. Any suggestions as to why my xp has stopped automatically loading drivers for memory sticks?

Thanx
