OK, I got Windows 7 RC 64 bit downloaded.

Q: OK, I got Windows 7 RC 64 bit downloaded.

Hi,

I downloaded Windows 7 RC 64 bit and I'd love to install in on a partition on my PC ... only ... how do I make a bootable image of it?

I've downloaded ISOBuster as suggested at the Microsoft site, I also have MagicISO free version and Nero 8 Ultra, none of these seems to want to work for me.

I did a Nero copy of the image which apparently has nothing to do with a bootable image ... duh.

The MagicISO seems like it will work if I purchase it ... first things first ... can I do it for free?

The ISOBuster seems absolutely impossible to decipher it's "Simplicity"?

Can Nero make a bootable image?

Can anyone pray tell me what I don't know. I'm really eager to hear it.

Thanks,

John

PS I hope my dumbness is only temporary!

Have you tried Imgburn?

I want to use windows 7 which is already dowloaded on a pc (with product key) to use for my Macbook Pro, but it says this when on the Microsoft website "ErrorThe product key you entered appears to be for software pre-installed by the device manufacturer. Please contact the device manufacturer for software recovery options." ? Can anyone help please?

A:Using already downloaded Windows 7(currently on a PC) to use...

Hi: What you want to do would violate the Microsoft Windows licensing terms, so no one here will be able to help you with that. The product key you entered is an OEM product key.  You need a full retail version of a windows product key in order to download the Windows 7 software. OEM versions of Windows cannot be transferred or used on another PC. Please see the Microsoft OEM licencing terms regarding use of Windows OEM software. http://www.microsoft.com/oem/en/licensing/sblicensing/Pages/licensing_faq.aspx#fbid=q7CEbN2yHpJ Q. Can my customers transfer or sell their OEM software licenses? A. After an OEM software license has been installed on a PC, the license may not be installed on or transferred to another PC. However, the entire PC may be transferred to another end user along with the software license rights. When transferring the PC to the new end user, the software media, manuals (if applicable), and Certificate of Authenticity label must be included. It is also advisable to include the original purchase invoice or receipt. The original end user cannot keep any copies of the software. PC manufacturers do not provide OEM Windows software for download. You would have to purchase a set of W7 recovery disks for the PC that has W7 on it, and they will only work on that PC.

If it can be, downloads for windows 7 to buy the cd from like Amazon. I probable couldn't do it myself (maybe I could if it wasn't hard) but could take it to a pro to do it. Does windows 8 have to come off otherwise wouldn't it be taking room on the harddrive??

I was alerted by a Belarc Advisor report that I was missing the important security hotfix KB2559049. This is a little strange, since Windows update seems to work without any problems.

I then went and tried to manually apply the correct version (Windows 7 64 bit, IE9) of the update (Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9 in Windows 7 x64 Edition (KB2559049)) but the update would not run, giving the message ?This update is not applicable to your computer?.

I have submitted a support request to Microsoft, but response time has been very slow in part due to the time difference between India and North America and days off by the support persion.

I thought I would post the details here in case someone has encountered and resolved a similiar problem.

To summarize all of the different things I have tried so far ?
1. Regular installation of update using windows update ? update not selected
2. Manual installation - error message ?This update is not applicable to your computer?
3. Manual installation after clean boot - same error message ?This update is not applicable to your computer?
4. Manual installation after disabling Microsoft Security Essentials - same error message ?This update is not applicable to your computer?
5. Checked Windows files with SFC /scannow ? no problems found
6. Checked for any other programs that may be causing a problem ? none found
7. I have also tried the Microsoft Fixit center ? it says it... Read more

Check the main directory in the hard drive and see if a $Windows.~BT folder exists and occupies about 6 GB of space.

If it does, Microsoft has downloaded the Windows 10 upgrade.

I never applied for and reserved a copy of it in my computers, but it showed up in one of them.

Needless to say, I deleted that entire folder.

Sneaky - I just looked and I do have a $Windows-BT folder. Not much in it, but right below it there is a $Windows-WS folder, and guess what ? Its 5.79gb large. Now I know why the backups have been taking a bit longer.

Hi all

I've just had a real shock. Apparently I downloaded around 1.8 gigs last night (16/9/14 local calendar). That would be a movie or some massive update like I once got from Adobe when I was using Creative Suite.

The "Installed Updates" window shows nothing from last night. My own memory confirms I wasn't watching a movie or consciously downloading anything massive. My Firefox History Bar confirms this.

I'll ask this question like a gumby because thart's what I am. Is there any file Win7 has that logs downloads?

I use mobile broadband to connect to the internet and I've heard of people piggybacking bandwidth, so maybe there's nothing to find on my machine, but if I don't ask, I guess I won't even get a laugh.

Any and all advice gratefully received.

Cheers

I downloaded Windows 10 a couple of days ago and after I type in my password this comes on every time after I log on: "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then you can restart".

After the message Shows 100% I turn off the computer and then restart it. Then when I log in I can log onto the internet. But the message comes on every time that I log on. Then when I restart the computer it takes a very long time before I am able to type my password in. Once I type my password in then I can go onto the internet and it works fine. But why should that message come on every time I try to log on and why does it take so long before I am able to get to the internet?

Also, I have a book entitled 'Windows 10 for seniors for dummies'. My computer doesn't follow anything in that book. Maybe someone can recommend a better book.

Did you do a clean install or an upgrade? If you did not have to reinstall your programs, you have an upgrade.

If you did an upgrade, the problems that you are having will only be the beginning. My advice would be to reinstall, using the clean install method. If you did a clean install, let us know and we can help you.

Hello guys,
I have windows 7 ultimate SP1 and XP in different partitions installed, with all the latest updates and whenever I try to install most programs, they are corrupted from the download or will not let me install as it says:
"this file does not have a valid digital signature that verifies its publisher".
The thing is though, when i download programs in XP home edition on the other partition, they all work.
Eventually i realised that it was my Router's firewall corrupting the files (or so i thought) as i could then download some files, e.g FF wihtout them being corrupted.
However, now downloading Itunes or any anti virus software etc the downlaod is corrupted and i cannot install it. I made sure the downloads ARE compatible with win 7 x64
Any thoughts as to how i can fix this little problem?
Thanks, Firebus154

A:Windows 7 x64, I can't install downloaded Programs!

Hi -

Download program installation files using a different computer, different network oto a USB stick. Copy them in to Windows 7 or XP partition and see if they install. Don't install directly from the USB.

If they don't install, the problem is within the dual boot system.

Hello,

I recently incurred a virus from a Windows Update--that's right, a Windows Update.

I have Windows 10 and the other day it downloaded a bunch of updates and asked me to schedule a restart. I accepted the suggested time, and when that time came, it did a reboot. When it rebooted, everything seemed fine until I went to surf the internet in Chrome. I went directly to my usual website (a trusted and innocuous discussion forum, not unlike this one) and all of a sudden, new tabs started opening up, advertizements filled the browser, warnings about being infected, etc. I quickly killed the power and booted again. This time I tried in a different browser (Firefox) and the same thing happened. Then I tried rebooting in safe mode with networking, opened IE and the same thing happened there (different website this time).

It seems like after the Windows Update, all my browsers have been hijacked, even in safe mode.

Anyway, I'd like to request some guidance with this. I'm going to try my usual method of removing viruses:

* Run rkill.
* Run MalwareBytes.
* Run Herd Protect.
* Run AdwCleaner.
* Run SuperAntiSpyware.

I always download the latest versions of these before running them.

Some assistance while I do this would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Some entries are associated with programs that have long since been removed. Of the 17 files listed 10 were shown as "Installed" in the Status column while 6 were shown as"Damaged" and 1 as "Unknown".
Some of the "Damaged " files have either "none" in terms of size or "none" shown as a creation date.
Can anyone tell me whether or not it is safe to delete these entries?

There appears to be quite a few problems with your Vista installation.First, I'd try running SFC.EXE /SCANNOW from the Run dialog (press the Win key and the R key at the same time)If that doesn't fix it, then I'd have to suggest a repair install of Vista. Tons of things could be causing it. Connectivity, memory, bad copy of winrar, and most of all a download manager.

Could we get some info on your system, and what you do when you download.

For some reason you are getting corrupt downloads. That will cause the data execution error.

How are you doing the downloading, and are you sure you are allowing it to complete? Can you download directly to the hard drive and run the program from there?

Is the problem only with one type of download?

Hi all,

I'm having a problem to connect to a network's printer LaserJet 2100 series PCL 6 (the server's OS is Windows XP 32bit) to my deksktop PC (Windows 7 Pro 64bit). It says that it can't locate a suitable driver, regardless I already downloaded the drivers LaserJet2100-Windows 7 (64bit) from the HP official website.

I did also try to 'add a printer' -> 'add a local printer' -> and then install a printer driver for HP Laserjet 2100 PCL 6.
Seems to me that probably I already have this driver downloaded into my computer, but I just don't know where Windows 7 save this downloaded driver. If only I could locate the driver, I might be able to locate it manually and used for the network's printer.

Anyone have any idea where the location of the downloaded driver, e.g. somewhere in the Computer> C: > Windows >..., from 'add a local printer'?

Thanks in advance!

A:downloaded driver location in Windows 7

Problem solved!

Instead of adding as a network printer, in Windows 7 apparently you have to assign it as a local printer (which I found it's quite peculiar!).

Here are the steps to solve the problem:

go to Devices and Printers > Add a Printer > Add a Local Printer > Create a New Port: Local Port (not even a TCP/IP port!) > Port Name box appear > Enter a port name \\Servername\Printername (exactly as it appears in the server's computer) > Install the Printer Driver > done!

Something very odd is happening. I tried to install a number of Windows Store apps ---- none of them would download, so I thought I would try again later, it might be a temporary glitch. Then by pure chance I discovered a lot of files from these apps on an external USB drive, drive E, on which I only keep the ISO file from the re-install. They are all together in a folder called Windows apps. None of them will launch from there.

I know of no reason why they would be in E. I expect Store apps to be somewhere in drive C. Where should they be, and how did they manage to get downloaded to E?

A:Where are Windows Store apps downloaded to?

Hello clayto,

Store apps are installed to the hidden protected "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps" folder by default.

There are a number of things that can break Windows Update in Windows XP, including performing a repair/reinstall. For a fix, try these next steps:

If you'd rather not try the batch file, you can enter each line in the Run box one at a time and click OK after each one.

You cannot just copy it to a USB drive. If you have the Windows 7 ISO file you can us the Windows USB/DVD download tool to create a bootable USB. As the link on the Microsoft web site is not working you can download it from CLICK HERE

Hello,
One day (Jan 2 to be exact) I decided I should download the Windows updates that my computer keeps prompting me about. Big mistake. Now I can't get online (i'm wireless with linksys router). It says I'm connected, but when I try to open internet exployer it says "can't find server". I called Dell support and they said the updates corrupted something and that I should backup all my files and reinstall my operating system, however, they won't help me do that unless I pay for their "fee-based customer support". I'm sure I can do it on my own, but I can't find any simple instructions for saving all my files and programs. Is it as simple as saving or copying all my files to a CD? I don't have the "backup utility" and I couldn't find it on the Windows XP CD-ROM either. I did try the System Restore and that didn't work either.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I would really appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Jennifer

A:Downloaded Windows Updates And Now I Can't Get Online

Try Start>Run>CMD>C:\sfc /scannow. I am not sure if it will work in this situation, but it can't hurt. If you have to reorder that XP CD before the next windows come out. It is worth it's weight in gold when repairing/installing the OS.

* Run rkill.
* Run MalwareBytes.
* Run Herd Protect.
* Run AdwCleaner.
* Run SuperAntiSpyware.

I always download the latest versions of these before running them.

Some assistance while I do this would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

I bought a used toshiba L455 that has Ubuntu OS so I have downloaded a digital copy of windows 7, burned it to a disc but haven't used it yet because I'm afraid that I might mess something up.. the file is an iso file so when I stick it in the cd drive and use it, will it actually install windows 7? Or should I just buy the actual windows 7 discs? I also have the product key so I can activate it.

A:Downloaded digital copy of Windows 7

Did you get the Windows ISO from mydigitallife.info?

If you did, and you got the version that matches your presumably valid Product Key, it will install and activate with your key.

It will install even without a Product Key---but would not activate.

Hey, anyone experience Windows 7 taking a very long time to check for updates, and more importantly getting stuck at 0% downloading. Unfortunately this is the last day for the free upgrade, and it looks like I'm stuck not being able to install it. I don't have a blank HD to frantically install Win 7 on, and then Win 10...

Things I've checked, my internet connection is strong, BITS service and Windows Update service is running, registry setting for OS upgrade hasn't been messed with. I have 35GB free on my OS drive.

Back in January I had changed Windows update to notify me of updates, but not install them. I recently changed that back.

Any thoughts? Am I screwed.....

A:Windows 7 won't update to 10 - stuck at 0% downloaded

Edit: I was working on this post/guide when you made the second post above so, it seems you got it kickstarted to some degrees. If you're serious about the SCSI drivers well, good luck with that too. Anyway, here's what I wrote - no sense deleting all of it at this point, the info could help someone else.

---------------------

You're going through the same issues a few million others have with Windows 7 the past 6 months or so, all of it carefully orchestrated by Microsoft (my personal belief) to frustrate users of Windows 7 specifically and push them over an edge to get them to upgrade to Windows 10. There's no legitimate reason Windows Update should be as slow as it is, with a patchwork of little files being dribbled out to the masses that supposedly fix the problems with the slow updates, one of them breaks something the previous one fixes so then they push another one, then another, and another and so on.

There's not much you can do overall except apply a few of them (if you haven't already) but it's not a guarantee. And with this being the very last day now (since it's July 29th in the Pacific time zone which is what Microsoft runs by) that means the sheer amount of network traffic hitting them today will be phenomenal with all those trying their best to get the Windows 10 free upgrade offer locked in place. The downside?

You're not going to get it to go much faster at this point but you can work on it. Check out:

They are talking about Win 7 Professional, into which you can download and install the XP Virtual mode.
You can try running the game in Compatibility Mode.

Hi, I am still having a problem trying to get rid of a file dealing with Dialer.one0none. The only time this shows up is when running Norton Anti Virus scan, as being in c:/windows/downloaded program files\109554.exe. I cannot delete it using NAV. When searching for this file, it is no where to be found.
My question is this, Can I delete the entire contents of the c:/windows/downloaded program files? Maybe this would get rid of it.
I am running Windows XP Home ed. I am on cable and do not have my phone connected to the computer. There don't seem to be any problems other than this keeps coming up on my virus scan as a threat and when I try to delete it, it fails. I have tried the Safe Mode way, also have submitted a HJT Log earlier. I just need to know if the c:/windows/downloaded program files is needed. Thanks for your help. Roger

yes, you can safely delete the contents of that folder.

Hello,

After reading this article, which states Microsoft is downloading Windows 10 files to your machine even if you haven't reserved a copy, I became concerned.

I searched my C: drive, for ~BT, and found nothing. However, if the 3.5GB to 6GB hidden folder is still on my machine, I'd like to delete it, as I have no plans to upgrade to Windows 10, nor do I appreciate an auto download of newer OS files.

Is there another way to see if this folder and the files within are on my machine? If so, is it safe to delete them?

A:Deleting the Windows 10 files that are downloaded automati

If you have show hidden and system files in explorer you should see it but that's not were all the files are downloaded go they are mixed up with software update files. You can delete the files but they will come back if gmx is running. At the end of the day you will have to update as drivers etc won't be made for old Windows

Hi All,

As the title states:

I have a Lenovo X201 running Windows 7 64-bit. I have a 256 SSD and 8GB RAM. I recently reformatted and my laptop is running ice cold. When I download all of my music from my external on to my laptop, it runs super hot. Something is taking up bandwidth. I ran a scan on all of my music files, and there was nothing infected. There could be some corrupt files here and there, but I don't know if they have anything to do with the major overheat.

Before music was downloaded: 40-46 Celsius on idle.
After music was downloaded: 75-82 Celsius on idle.

Both dwm.exe and explorer.exe run harder when my music files (90 GB) are on the SSD.

What could be casusing this? I have tried reformatting again, uploading all of my music in portions, deleting/repairing corrupt mp3 files and the problem still persists. Could it be as an SSD fills up, it runs hotter? I wouldn't think so because it is just flash memory. I may be wrong though!

any suggestions/input would be greatly appreciated. I was wondering if any of you have had a similar issue!

All the best,
996

I have windows 8.1 and get it updated once a week.
So all updates cumulate to above 1 gb(roughly) along with the nvidia griphic card drivers.

My system is damn slow and i cant find a reason.
I have removed the unwanted startup items and some auto update services like Nvidia update service.
Still the windows 8.1 in my laptop takes long time to respond on right clicking, selecting ad opening files, pdf etc. What could be bugging it?

So want to refresh my windows 8.1.Will refreshing PC remove all updates till now?
I dont want to waste my restricted bandwidth re downloading it all again. So i want to back up already downloaded update files.
Pls help me

A:How to backup already downloaded update files- windows 8.1

I don't believe refreshing your PC removes updates as I think this on removes traditional desktop applications and sets Windows configuration back to defaults along with cleaning the drive. Now if you you "reset your PC" then everything will get wiped. Your Nvidia updates are driver updates so those should be more then fine as the point of a "refresh pc" is to not have to do all the leg work of a fresh install.

Now if you are still wanting to backup your updates I was looking online and most show a way of getting the updates through Microsoft websites and saving the download which does not help you as you would have to download again anyway.

Hopefully someone can shed more light on backing up updates after they had been installed or will confirm that "refresh pc" does not remove currently installed updates.

Provided the Product Key is a genuine one with a licence issued by Microsoft, that is okay but you must use a different Product Key & licence for each computer. It's illegal to use the same Product Key on more than one computer.message edited by phil22

Hi,

I've just downloaded Microsoft Windows 7 Build 7057 Ultimate x86 with a size of 2.52 GBs. Since I use a fairly slow internet connection it took me AGES to complete.

Now that I want to burn it on a DVD so I can use it as a bootable disc, I see that there is no single image file like ISO, CCD, IMG, etc. for burning. Unfortunately I face a bunch of files and folders. Here's a shot:

I'd like to know how I am able to make a bootable DVD outta these files so I can easily clean install a new Windows 7.

Somebody told me I have to download ANOTHER TWO GIGABYTES as a 3rd party program in order to do that!!!! Since my internet connection is badly slow I didn't even listen to what he said!!!

A:How to make a Bootable DVD from Windows 7 downloaded files?

Hello PowerVU and welcome to SevenForums.

You can find applications that make bootable CDs out of files, but it's too much trouble.

I have 2, more promising, options for you:

1. You can install Windows 7 from within another operating system, e.g. XP or Vista. Just run the setup.exe and follow on-screen installation guide.

or

2. You can create a bootable USB stick with the files you got there. Check out this post : How do you make a USB drive bootable so I can load W7 on a netbook?

Hope it helps.

My Automatic Update downloaded the IE 8 update. I have no desire to switch to IE 8 at this time. How can I delete the downloaded file from Windows Update so that it isn't inadvertently installed?

I deleted out the files in C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download but I'm still getting everyone's favorite gold shield indicating that updates are ready to be installed.

I ran ad-aware and did some stuff on my own to try and fix it and it seemed like it was fine, then i left for a while and when i came back it was in the blue screen again. Any help is appreciated. I have no rights to save to anywhere or do anything, iTunes wouldn't let me sync because I "didn't have enough access privileges" but apparently that was something to do with the pictures, which then links back to me no longer having the rights to do anything on my computer. The answer is probably so close it'll bite me but I just can't see it.

A:I lost all of my administrator rights when I downloaded Windows 10

Someone PLEASE help!!! This is driving me nuts!!!

I keep getting the message ... You don't have permission to save in this ;location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in the Pictures folder instead?

I get the same message if I try to save in the Picture folder. I am the only one who uses this laptop.

I'm on dialup, and I format somewhat often. Does anyone know if there is a "temp" folder or something of that nature where I can get the patches I've downloaded? It takes me a good 5-6 hours to download them all, even after installing SP1 (which I have on a CD). I would like to put these patches on a CD and then make a batch file to install all of them (I don't need help with this though ).

I went into the event viewer, I can see when the lid is opened aka the computer is turned on and off; is their a log of what apps were used by day or what apps have been downloaded. i can not go to the download folder because if something was downloaded the person would have deleted it out of there because he is smarter than to leave evidence. i am essentially looking for two things, what was done on my computer on 3 specific days and if a keylogger was downloaded our something else that records my activities on these 3 specific days. i am to the point where i Will probably restore my computer because i am being there is something on there, but i am looking for proof to call the person out. he is either deleting his web history when using my laptop our using a Mozilla private screen.

any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

A:does Windows 8 save when apps are opened or downloaded

Check the Event Viewer under "Applications" for those specific times. If you are looking for a history, I don't know where that woudl be. Applications will tell you what was open and when.

I've just spent an entire evening installing Windows 7 Starter, then all the Windows Updates, on a Netbook with a 16GB HD; it got very full! Then I discovered RT Seven Lite so I'm going to have to do it all again!

Is there a way to preserve the downloaded Windows Update files, so I don't have to download them all again? I could obviously make a copy of the download folder, but I'm also not keen on having to install them manually.

A:Preserve downloaded Windows Update files for re-use?

Hello Nigel,

You may be able to extract them using the free program in the tutorial below.Windows Update - Extract an Update
If not, then you could download and save the MSU files for the Windows Updates in a folder on say an external HDD as a backup to be able use when including them in a slipstreamed installation disc created with RT Seven Lite.

My friend enabled automatic updates, and XP began downloading SP2. After he returned from going out the download appeared to have been completed, however there is no icon in the task-bar to prompt him to install SP2. We tried setting the specific time for the updater to install new downloads, but nothing happened.

Do any of you know the location that Win Updater downloaded SP2 to? That way we can install it manually without having to wait for the auto updater to prompt him.

What would the SP2 install file be called so we can search for it?

You don't say what application it is or give its file type. Without further information all I can suggest is to right click the file, go to Properties and see if it says it's blocked. If so hit the Unblock button then Apply/OK your way out.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Q.1 Just wondering if anyone knows where partially transferred files go to, when you download files using the right click 'save target as' command?

Sure, the 'file download' pop up window shows the location the files are to be 'downloaded to:'-but it doesn't show these files until the download is complete-and when i have opened up explorer to search for the file name and/or used the windows search tool-i cannot find where windows is putting these partially downloaded files before they are complete!
I want to be sure that if i cancel a download-it is being deleted and not clogging up my HD.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
Q.2 Another query related to downloading using windows, is that i have noticed that i can only do a maximum of 3 simultaneous downloads using the 'save target as' command (so i can therefore only get a maximum of 3 of those download windows pop up at any given time)-however i know that on a previous format i have been able to do at least 5 at the same time?

Does anyone know how to increase or decrease the number of downloads that windows can carry out simultaneously?

Question 1 was meant to read "Just wondering if anyone knows where partially DOWNLOADED files go to....."

Over the weekend, the one-millionth person registered to sign-up for the Windows Insider Program and download and install the Windows Technical Preview, Microsoft says, and unprecedented level of pre-release involvement for Windows. That this comes less than two weeks into the availability of the preview is a positive sign for the future success of Windows 10.

"This is going to be a different Windows," Microsoft's Joe Belfiore notes in a post celebrating this milestone. "We're going to share our plans and progress with you earlier and more often as we want to build a Windows that everyone will love and really enjoy using. I'm excited for the level of participation we've seen."

Here are some interesting bits Mr. Belfiore provided about the Windows Technical Preview.

1 million users in about 10 days. As noted up front, over 1 million people have installed the Windows Technical Preview.

200,000 pieces of user-initiated feedback (or UIFs) have been submitted to us via the Windows Feedback app from Windows Insiders.

Most installs are on real PCs. Only 36 percent of Windows Technical Preview installs have been in virtual environments like Hyper-V. So 64 percent of the installs are on actual PCs.

I'm still relatively new to Win10, having done a clean install on my laptop that had been running Win7 for a few years.

I'm trying to understand if there's any advantage/disadvantage to installing apps from the Windows Store versus installing the regular versions of the same software. For example, I'm a long-time user of portable apps and for years have used the portable version of VLC. However, I saw that there's a VLC app available from the Store. So I installed both versions (i.e. the portable version and the Store app version) and the portable version is clearly more robust and has more features than the app. Such being the case, why would anyone want the Store app version versus the regular or portable version? Is there some advantage to installing the Store apps instead of the regular or portable versions of software? Do the apps install and uninstall at lot cleaner than their non-app counterparts?

Hello and welcome.  Please follow these guidelines while we work on your PC:Malware removal is a sometimes lengthy and tedious process. Please stick with the thread until I’ve given you the “All clear.”  Absence of symptoms does not mean your machine is clean! Please do not run any scans or install/uninstall any applications without being directed to do so.Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you within five days this thread will be closed.   Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.Press Scan button. It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply. The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

We have to wipe the disk on my daughter's Viao because of various infections. She does not have a backup disk for that computer. So before speaking with me she ordered Windows 7 through the discount program at the school where she teaches (nice discount too!). But as you can see from the capture below, she ordered a Win 7 upgrade, which I doubt will install on a clean disk. However, she also ordered the backup disk that doesn't mention "upgrade" in the title. What are the chances I could download that backup disk, burn it, and do a clean install? Or will the upgrade version actually do a clean install from an external drive or disk?

A:Will downloaded Windows 7 backup disk do a clean install?

I don't know what Backup Disc means in this context. But there is "Backup Disc Information".
You can use the upgrade disc to clean install win7. See Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

Greetings,

And yes, I am an idiot...

I have an HP Compaq nc8000 laptop running Windows XP Pro SP3. I'm also running PC Tools Firewall Plus, PC Tools Threatfire, Avast Free Antivirus and Spyware Terminator. Hijack This and RKill are installed as well. I even use the Google Chrome browser with the WOT toolbar. Unfortunately, none of those safeguards were able to block a stupidity problem which originated somewhere between the seat and the keyboard!

This morning, I clicked on a link to a site that my WOT toolbar flagged as unsafe... and I ignored it and proceeded to the site anyway. After about a minute I tried to exit the site, which produced nothing but a repeated popup (it was mostly a blank white field, no ads of any kind). I was unable to close the browser (same popup), then I was unable to log off of Windows and had to do a "hard" shut-off with the power button.

When I tried to restart, I got the following black screen: "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this..." I attempted to reboot in Safe Mode, Last Known Good Configuration and Normal. (I didn't try Safe w/Networking because my laptop only connects to my home network via router, or Safe w/Command Prompt because I'm not familiar enough with the feature.) A blue screen flashes for a fraction of a second so I can't read it, then it continuously loops me right back to the same bla... Read more

HI,
I hope someone can help me!

Yesterday my Asus laptop that runs Vista 32 did an automatic update, I think it was for a service pack but I didn;t really pay much attention. When the computer shut down and then tried to restart it wouldn't restart and just showed a black screen and was scrolling through some jargon and then stops at:
!! 0xc01a001d!! 9258/90091 (\Registry\Machine\COMPONENTS\DerivedData\...)

I then manually **** down my computer and tried to start it in all safe modes so that I can do a system restore however when I start in safe mode it starts to load the windows drivers and then stops at
Loaded: \windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys

What can I do to do a system restore. This Vista is driving me nuts I have never had a computer crash on me so many times as this computer that is only 12 months old. I do not want to have to re set everything up again! It's ridiculous!

How do I fix this?

After struggling with system problems to the hair-pulling frustration stage, I decided to try a new install of Windows 7/64 image from MS. Attempts resulted in an error message: PRODUCT KEY is invalid. To eliminate the possibility of typos, I cut/paste the PRODUCT KEY from my registry using a utility recommended here.

A system file scan had reported a missing file but didn't name the missing file.

What should I do from here?

Totally frustrated.

Thanks.
