Windows 7 file in use error and batch save error

Q: Windows 7 file in use error and batch save error

I have a file in a folder called bla.exe

I copy a newer version to the folder

windows 7 asks me if I want to copy and replace the file

I say yes

Windows 7 says "error file is open in another program"

WHAT THE HECK IS THAT!!!
(it is in no way shape or form open in any program except for explorer!)

There is some kind of delayed file protection inside windows 7 that is not in windows XP nor vista.

in XP or vista you can copy and replace files with no problems.

I have searched and found several possible fixes that dont fix the problem:
1.) I set the advanced owner permisions to my whole C: drive to have the owner as Administrator instead of trusted installer

2.) UAC is off and I have set all basic permissions to full control on admin and on everyone
_______________________________________ ______________________

problem #2

In windows XP I edit a batch file and I click save to save its new contents.

In windows 7 I save the edited batch file and it says it is in use and I end up having to save it as a different name or different location!
_______________________________________ _____________________

- I have searched to no end on this issue since win 7 came out.
- I have this same issue after re-installing windows 7 multiple times( and with default settings)
- I have this same issue on different peoples computers that have win 7 too.

_______________________________________ ______________________

the files that have copy errors can be ANY exe and it wont let you unless you wait about 10 minutes after you clicked the original exe.

the batch save problem also exists on any windows 7

Any possible help or solutions would be great.....someday I guess.... ???

A: Windows 7 file in use error and batch save error

I read your question several times to make sure I am following you correctly.

What I am perceiving from what you are describing is that you are attempting to put two files of the same name in the same folder at the same time. Is this correct?

Normally it will create or allow the file to be in the same folder but will add a 2 to the end of the file.
such as bla.exe and bla(2).exe

I use Microsofts Visual Studio 2010 a lot and have created batch files for some programs I have worked on and only use Windows 7 most of the time.

I have not experienced the issues you speak of with being warned that the batch file is in use elsewhere on my system when I am working with a batch file.

If I am way off course here, sorry about my misunderstanding your question.

Bruce.

Hey Guys,

Tried writing a batch file to open a few programs I use together regularly, but which I don't want all the time on startup.

I've tried:

start ?Netbeans? /d "R:\Program Files\NetBeans 6.9.1\bin\netbeans.exe"
start ?OfficeTime? /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\OfficeTime\OfficeTime.exe"
Start "WampServer" /d "R:\wamp\wampmanager.exe"

start ?Filezilla? /d "R:\Program Files\FileZillaFTPClient\filezilla.exe"
start "CiscoVPN" /d "C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\VPN Client\vpngui.exe"
and : (to see if name or /d was an issue)

start "C:\Program Files\MaxiVista Pro Server\MaxiVistaAll.exe"

Try this (I've completely removed the "title" parameters:

Code:

Note that in the above code, only those path names (/D) containing spaces need to be enclosed in quotes. This whould apply too to command names (/B) if they contained spaces.

Note also that you do not have to use "start":

It may just be a typo in your post, but it looks like you're missing a backslash after the D: -- there should be two:

I need help with a batch file I wrote for myself. It works fine on one machine, but it doesn't make sense that it's messing up on another computer (A clients). I will include the code below.

What it DOES (when it works) and why:
I'm a firm believe in Fireware HD units as a good - low cost Backup solution. It costs $700+ to get a 70gb Tape backup unit, but thats still a 35gb tape that is "double" compressed. And it takes FOREVER to do a backup. Even the $1200 TBU may only backup about 50~80gb, but do it a lot faster.

A Firwire HD costs about $60 for the case and $140 for a 120gb 7200 RPM HD. PLug N Go, etc.

I use GHOST to copy the entire Partition to the Firewire drive, which takes about 12-15min to backup 8 or so GB of data.

But there are NO good BU software out there that works with firewire.. they work with CDs or TBUs or they are JUNK.

So I wrote a batch file to back up the IMPORTANT data... takes about 3 mins to backup whats important. I then copied it 5 times to make 5 different backup points. For example, run Batch-file-2 on 2nd week of each month. Then save 1 backup set a month.

Both PCs are running Windows98se

This works fine on the original machine... simple. Click one icon and a DOS window pops open and you see the files fly.

On this other PC, it does something strange.

It's supposed to copy specfic directories and files into W:\backup1

(and theres backup2, backup3 etc)

But what I am getting is NO files shown on the DOS scree... Read more

A:Batch File Execution error

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Remove this part:

Start "" "C:\Mytrace.....

so the line should start with:
"C:\Mytrace

Move the closing quotation mark to the end of the file to be run:
"C:\Mytraces\Program Files\Wireshark\tshark"

You should not need a closing quotation mark after all of those parameters and switches.

Hey guys,

I know batch files aren't usually used for user-interactive programming, but I am writing a simple program to help manage save files across a network. I am getting a syntax error in one part, and I cannot figure out the problem. Any help would be appreciated!

Here is the context of this section of code:
I have verified the existance of a file called "tracking.db3" and gave the user the option to either delete it or rename it. This is the section for renaming it and moving it to a shared drive. My current directory is the same as "tracking.db3"

Here is the code (section):

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
IF /i %delete%==C (
cls
ECHO.
ECHO Que le gustaria ser el nombre nuevo?
sleep 1
ECHO.
SET /p newname= Escriba el nombre nuevo, luego pulse "Enter" :
RENAME tracking.db3 %newname%
MOVE %newname% "\\CHARLY\Shared Files"
ECHO.
ECHO.
ECHO El archivo ha sido renombrado y se traslado a la carpeta compartida.
sleep 1
GOTO ESTUDIANTE
)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am getting the syntax error after the RENAME command... Also sorry for the snippets of spanish I am working in Costa Rica.

I'm running Windows 7 Pro on my Dell laptop. This laptop has been in storage and hasn't been turned on in a year. Originally, all I wanted to do was use iTunes. The problem:

It made me update it in order to use it, but I got an error.

I un-installed it and tried downloading a fresh copy and I get the following error:
After some Googling, I read that not having the latest Windows .NET framework might be the problem. Sounded reasonable so I fired up Windows Update but that gave me an error and wouldn't start checking for updates.

I download the system readiness tool, found here:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3132
I tried a clean boot.

I tried renaming the Windows Update Softwaredistribution folder.

None of this worked.

This has been puzzling me since Vista and now Windows 7; at least now I know the reason...

The type of file being changed is .txt, .css, .html, etc. Open the file in Notepad, Dreamweaver, or any other HTML editor, modify the content, and save or "Ctrl+S" the file under the original name. Windows does not allow saving the file and presents this pop up:

Reducing the content of the file generally does not result in this error, depending on the level of reduction; addition on the other hand always does.

The culprit for this error is the Windows Explorer layout, more accurately the "Preview pane" under "Organize\Layout" section. Explorer displays the content of the file in the "Preview pane" if and when the file name is highlighted. As far as Windows is concerned at that point, the file is "opened/owned" by Windows Explorer and as such, the system locks file editing by any other application. It doesn't matter that both the Windows Explorer and the file in itself opened by the same user, evidently Windows Explorer process takes precedent over other application process when it comes to modifying file content. This file lock is temporary and last until the file name is highlighted or Explorer is closed. The permanent fix for this error is to disable Explorer's "Preview pane", especially for people who edit HTML files with Notepad or any other HTML editor.

Interestingly, none of the MS Office files display this error wh... Read more

Yesterday I removed Windows 7 & did a clear install of Windows 8.1 x64. Now whenever I try to save a file on different partition like D,E, etc I get the dialog box that I do not have permissions to save the file to this location even though I am clearly the administrator & I have disabled UAC. All I am doing is downloading a file from Internet Explorer & saving it to my softwares folder which is located on a separate partition & drive. I also get a prompt & have to click the continue button when I try to delete a file. Deletion works but I hate the prompting part.

I will be creating a guest account soon so can somebody please tell me what the solution is? All I want is to save or delete a file without any restriction be it from an administrator account or guest account.

A:Error: You do not have permissions to save file

So strange. The only thing I can think of is for you to go to This Computer, then right-click on each first level sub-folder on each drive, then click on Properties- to see if by chance they are set to read-only mode.

There are various permission and user settings, but you shouldn't have to go there first.

I have saved this file on this computer before and it worked ok. How do I get rid of the hard drive full error?

A:Cannot save file due to hard drive full error

It may be a simple case of temporary folder space. A cleaning of temp folders is where I would start.

Here is a link for CCleaner:

http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

One time I could not get a well known Firewall & Antivirus package to install. It turns out it crashed because it requires >2GB of space in the temporary folders which was not available. A cleaning fixed that.

I hope this is all it is, if not, have you looked at the compiler's log file? What about Event Viewer?

Hello,
I am running Microsoft Word 2000, Windows XP SP2.

The problem I am having is trying to save edited MS Word documents on a usb flash drive. After I have done some editing with my word document and try to save it to the usb flash drive, the error messages "Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error" prompted into his screen. I then discovered that the file was deleted from the flash drive whenever he try to save the file directly to flash drive.

I can duplicate the scenario and get the same problem over and over again.

So fare this only seems to happen with MS Word documents being saved on the USB drive. If I save a word doc on the C drive, open it, and edit it, it allows me to save the file with the updates to the C drive as normal.

Any suggestions? I'm not sure what a "file permission error is". I am using Norton Internet Security 2007, and I have tried disabiling it, thinking that it was a secuirty problem related to Norton, but that did not work either.

Please advise if you can help me.

Thank you

A:Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error

Hi

Depending on you flash drive, it could be write protected. There may be a small slider switch to move. Do you have a secure flash drive? These flash drives offer secure sections on the flash drive and you may need to use the software that came with the drive to unlock it.

It could also be faulty!

Hope this helps

(Win-XP) After getting an Error Msg telling me that I was "missing" a file named mshtml.hlp, I began a Google search using "mshtml.hlp" as the search string. Many search return results indicated that the problem was a programming language issue and others suggested that I search the Microsoft Knowledgebase. While reading these, one part of my mind was chewing on the question... what has changed in the 48 hours since I was able to save images that were embedded in my Outlook Express E-mail. It occurred to me that Microsoft had more or less forced IE7 on me 24 hours ago as an automatic update. That is the only thing different. I change my search string in Google to "uninstall ie7" and found instructions to uninstall ie7.Went to the "Control Panel", found Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7 and uninstalled it. I must admit that there was some concern in the back of my mind as to what Explorer version, if any, I would be left with. Once the uninstall was completed, I rebooted and lo... all was as it was before the problem. I had IE6 and OE6 (Outlook Express 6) back. I tried using the Save-As feature on the same images that had caused me to get the error message. Nice... the error was fixed. No error msg and the image was saved the way I used to do it.Moderator Edit: Moved topic to more appropriate forum and added a topic descriptor. ~ Animal

Try to reinstall SP2 on your system. This will, effectively, repair Internet Explorer 6 (you may have to visit Windows Update to ensure that it didn't wipe out some of your updates).

If there is a configuration/settings file, backup somewhere and delete to see if game will recreate a default one.

You can also try to install the DirectX installer possibly in game/redist folder. Maybe it got corrupted somehow.

Hello.

I'm not sure what nasty I have. In normal mode, I get three critical error messages like below with different file numbers.

---------------
Critical Error!
Windows was unable to save all the components for the file \System32\496A8300. The file is corrupted or unreadable. The error may be caused by a PC hardware problem.
-------------

I have a black screen, can run nothing, cannot access files, cannot connect to the internet.

In safe mode, I can get the files to display and can access a CD and external hard drive, but still cannot access the internet.

I used a laptop to transfer DeFogger, DDS, and GMER. I ran Defogger, obtained DDS logs, but twice GMER caused a stop screen error: RQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and dumped the memory - had to reboot.

Previously, I had run rkill, TDSS, and MBAM. Once, the TDSS log indicated it had stopped C:\WINDOWS\system32\grpcon.exe - I believe it was the third time I ran it. Otherwise I get zero files terminated. I cannot run MBAM. I get run-time error '53' mbamnet. I tried using randmbam.exe, but was still unsuccessful after 10 attempts.

I get locked up in safe mode and have to turn off the computer and restart the whole process. This morning, I missed the safe mode tap and when starting up in normal, Spybot popped up and stated it had terminated a file called win32.zbot.

Thank you for any help you can give me. I'm stumped on this one. I've been working with it for two days now and can&#... Read more

Can someone please help me on this problem?

I have this message on this laptop once windows has loaded.

'Failed to save setting. An error occurred loading a configuration file: unable to open file'C:\users\.....etc...'

Apparently whilst web browsing something occured and on reboot this message appears and the profile doesn't load properly user documents and software not there etc..

Within the start menu the list of program folders are there but the folders are empty. Looking through the c drive and finding my way to the programs the stuff is there.

I created a new admin user to see what that does. The folders are still empty.

This is a windows 7 HP laptop. It also doesn't have a cd disc drive or a window disk apparently.

Many thanks in advance.

If it has no CD drive it is most likely a "netbook" & not a laptop.
Try "rolling back" the system to an earlier date using System Restore:

Type rstrui in the run box, then click 'OK'

OK, I have run out of ideas and things to check. I have a 90gb hard drive (internal), it's got about 45gb free. I have defragged, I have deleted tons of temp files, and other files, etc. Still I cannot save or move a 190 KB sized file. I keep getting 'not enough free space on the disk' message.

This is already an NTFS device, and the file doesn't exceed a fat32 size anyway, so that's not the issue I am facing.

I have closed down all programs, except the app I am using to try to create and then save this file (it's like Microsoft Office, plain text or excel file format just using Sun's StarOffice instead), I have rebooted numerous times all to no avail.

Anybody have any other ideas on why I am still getting this message and cannot save any files?? Any help or info greatly appreciated.

Hi, you could try a system restore. If this fails or is not available try this. Desktop items are stored in a cache, this can become corrupted causing what you see. To fix right click on the taskbar and select Task manager. When Task Manager opens under the Applications tab click on "new Task" type:- explorer.exe press ok. Your desktop should repopulate. At this time reboot your computer. If all is well then the problem is fixed if not:-

Repeat the task manager (as above) and new explorer.exe then follow this:-

Go to Start all programs accessories and right click on command prompt select ?run as administrator?

At the prompt type:- taskkill /im explorer.exe /f press enter
(Your desktop will go blank)

Now type each line and press enter after each line.
Note the spaces.

Windows 8, "File: \BCD Error Code: 0xc0000034"

Good Day Everyone,

Trying to resolve this error:

I have a Window 8 recovery USB and a Windows 8.1 recovery USB both from another laptop...

Mine are 32 bit machines, if the laptop i am working on is 64 bit will it boot on my USB recovery that is from a 32 bit machine? My buddy doesn't know if this troubled laptop is 32 or 64 bit

When I use the recovery usb and try a refresh or a comlete format it comes back telling me the drive is locked and stops in its tracks.

Also from a the dos command window (from the recover usb advanced option section) i have tried the following with NO success...

Bootrec /fixmbr - successful but didn't help
Bootrec Fixboot - successful but didn't help
Bootrec - RebuildBCD - Goes off searching, comes back with 1> C:windows, I type Y to add it but it comes back with an error "The requested system device can not be found"

I also tried BCDboot c:\windows\ /s c: /l en-us - said it was successful but still didnt fix the boot problem.

So i am not sure if I am running into a 32 bit vs 64 bit issue or if i need to find a way to unlock my drive so the refresh will work?? Or...?????

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated!!

This is on an Acer Aspire V3-551

Ok I'm totally at a loss on how to word this so I'm just going to write it out the best that I can...

First I have a batch file that I'm writing that will convert mp4 files to mp3 files (I have a lot) for a buddies band using ffmpeg.

Here's the code that I'm using:

ffmpeg -i folder\video.mp4 -f mp3 -ab 160000 -vn "\different folder\music.mp3"

what I would like to do is add to this so that I don't have to write out this code for every file I have... :/

I have the mp4 files in one folder and than the mp3 files are saving to another folder.

So here's an example of what the code will do if it isn't clear yet.

Folder 1:

video1.mp4
video2.mp4
video3.mp4

what it should do is grab video1.mp4 and convert it.

ffmpeg -i folder\video1.mp4 -f mp3 -ab 160000 -vn "\different folder\music1.mp3"

and than move onto the next one

ffmpeg -i folder\video2.mp4 -f mp3 -ab 160000 -vn "\different folder\music2.mp3"

and than the next one

ffmpeg -i folder\video3.mp4 -f mp3 -ab 160000 -vn "\different folder\music3.mp3"

It's going to have to grab the name from the mp4 file and insert it for the mp3 file.

I can get around pretty good in cmd if it's basic commands but when it comes to something like this I'm a little confused...

Thanks for the help in advance!
I'll see what i can do about searching some more on what I would have to do and if I find the solution I'll post it here if it isn't already answered.

A:Batch File that grabs file names from folder to insert into batch file

A DOS "for /f" loop should do the trick, although changing the filename extension for the output to do everything in one line escapes me at the moment.

Perhaps you could do a dir .\folder\*.mp4/s/b > mp4s.txt, then make a copy of that and edit each line to rename the file to the destination name, and save it as mp3s.txt. Then you just feed both the source (mp4s.txt) and destination (mp3s.txt) filesnames into the for /f loop which handles the ffmpeg conversion.

Quite a crude solution and you'd have to handpatch the destination filenames, but i can't think of how to get a source mp4 filename and then just change the extension.

I am using Windows Movie Maker on XP, and whenever I try to save a video to my computer, I get this error message:

"Windows Movie Maker cannot save the movie to the specified location. Verify that the original source files were used in your movie are still available, that the saving location is still available, and that there is enough free disk space available, and then try again."

Now, this makes no sense because:
A. I never moved or deleted the videos/music I used in the video.
B. I'm saving it to 'My Documents,' so how can I not save there?
C. The video is 28.64 MB, and I have 96 GIGS of free space.

I tried restarting the computer - that didn't work. I tried it making the same video on a different computer - that didn't work. So I'm pretty frustrated.

Is there any way of fixing this problem without having to redo my video?

-Thanks

Had a bad trojan virus on my PC running Vista32 as evidenced by not being able to view, save or download files in yahoo mail. Found a great website with step by step instructions for the exact problem and downloaded all sorts of software programs (Hitmanpro, AVG, Malwarebytes, etc) to eradicate it, and it started working again. But, now I have new (or perhaps leftover) issues remaining. Where to start?...

Because of the virus, I moved my entire Pictures folder to an external hard drive. After the fact, realized I should not have moved the shell folder and moved it back. The following problem seemed to start after that.

1) When I scan something and give it a name and try to save it in Window Photo Gallery (always worked before), I get an error message dialog box with heading "Importing Pictures and Videos". Message states: The following error occurred while importing Image.jpg: The system cannot find the specific file. What do you want to do? Try again; Skip this file; Skip all files with errors.

A possibly related issue:

2) When I click on Start, and the split box shows up, the one on the right that starts a top down list with my user name, Documents, Pictures, Music Games (not sure what these quick links are called), nothing happens when I click on Pictures. When I view properties, it is empty. So, not sure how to re-establish that link.

3) I am again unable to view, save or download attachments in Yahoo mail. It simply says file cannot be downloaded. I can us... Read more

I've come into contact with Mandriva Linux. I know of a concept called standard permissions, that it provides. It's pretty convienient. I don't exactly know how it really works under the hood or anything, and I don't need to know exactly how it works right now either, even though it's probably available.

What I want to do, in effect, is create a feature pretty close to equivelant of this feature, only for Windows XP. I want to set standard permissions using a batch file. Whenever this batch file is run as administrator it can enforce the permissions. What are these permissions it enforces? Well, what I want is for these permissions to be gotten from a text file. The syntax in no way resembles the syntax of the Linux file I'm describing.

Basically the syntax is this:
PATH <TAB> MODE <TAB> USER1,USER2,... <TAB> PERM
PATH <TAB> MODE <TAB> USER1,USER2,... <TAB> PERM
...
The path is the path to a file or folder in exact syntax. The mode is one of the switches that can be given for XCACLS in the Windows Resource Kit thingy. This can be replace, edit, etc. The users are the user or group to add/replace/remove/etc, and there is a comma allowed so more than one user or group is allowed to be specified. The permissions are the permissions that you can specify in the utillity.

So the first thing the script needs to do, is call some program that safely detects whether or not the filesystem is NTFS or not. If the sys... Read more

At first, Explorer.exe didn't work right. It kept saying "failed to initialize".
Following some online guides, I issued regsvr32.exe over every file in the C: drive.
This fixed that problem. But other problems started showing up, the first one being the
"Server Execution Failed" by Windows Media Player.
WinAMP also gave a DirectSound error. The "Save As.." operation gives a "Class not registered" error.

I believe the registry may be corrupt.
Thus far, I have tried many things to fix the issues, such as - Running FixIT, which also gave errors
CHKDSK, which found no errors
Reinstalling drivers and DirectX
Trying from the Administrator account
Virus Scans
CCleaner Registy Fix (I know, I know)
etcUnluckily, someone had disabled system restore, so there are no backup points.

Also, this computer has important files and programs on it, so a wipe would be bothersome.

What can I do to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

A:WMP Server Execution Error,Save "Class not recognised" error, others.

SFC /SCANNOW Didn't work either.

The answer I found on MS's technet doesn't match my problem - It claims that this error happens when installing Project before Outlook. There is no Project installed on this computer. It runs OO for everything except Outlook, which allows users to get to our Exchange server.

Here's the really insane thing: 3 users have this error happen. 3 users are able to access outlook just fine. (I've personally tested and observed this behavior.)

Since my google-fu failed me and MS has been less than helpful, I turn to the vast knowledge of BC's users in the hopes that someone else has seen an error like this.

Hiya,

I'd just like to run a simple batch file at logoff to backup some settings. I plan to use Robocopy, which is what i use to more thorough backups.

Two questions:
1. How make it run by clicking Start > Shutdown? (i realise i could make a shutdown batch file and run it instead, but i'd rather keep a standard 'workflow' for other users who use the machine.

2. I'm 'ok' with batch files, but i've never tried to mirror to a different folder each time (automagically). What i'd like to do is have it backup a folder and call it "blah.1" then "blah.2" each time it is run, and then repeat once it gets to "blah.9" so it doesn't keep growing forever. I don't know how to do this.

I realise no.2 is not really for this forum, but someone might know and i might as well ask

Thanks.

I'd first try moving everything to the certain directory, and then move the few shortcuts back.

If this doesn't work (maybe because of trying to move Recycle Bin) then write a loop to move each item individually with enough IF's to omit the ones that are to remain.

its risky to partition your hard drive with the OS already on it. You could mess it up if you continue to try to do this. with in mind, you may have to get a partitioning software like partition magic to do this.

I have 6 "programs" which I run every day on my PC. They are AS400 Client downloads and I need only double-click on the dtf or data transfer file to have the program produce the requested csv since the dtf is associated with the AS400 Client program.

I would like to automate this by running a batch file daily (or using a utility for this task if that is better) but the batch file did not seem to work when I switched to the proper folder and entered each dtf file as a line.

Can anyone give me a suggestion of a low cost utility or suggestions of how to correct my batch file?

I accidentally set the file open of .bat files to Notepad. From a link in this forum (How to Restore Default File Extension Type Associations in Windows 8 and 8.1)was able to reset the registry back I think. The bat file not longer asks for notepad but instead opens "How do you want to open this file" and ask me to look for an app. The batch files still do not run.

Any help gladly accepted.

A:Running batch File in Windows 8.1

Hi and Welcome to EightForums,

In a command prompt

Restore the default file type association.
Type 'assoc .bat'
It should return with
..bat=batfile

If not
Type 'assoc .bat=batfile'

Restore the default "Open" action for the file type.
Type 'ftype batfile'
should return with
batfile="%1" %*

If not
Type 'ftype batfile="%1" %*'

See if this helps.

Cheers,
Jamie

echo %KILLPIDSUBSTR%
)

Pause
This is what i get when running the above code, as you can see it returns the name of the programs i expect (i did it against calc.exe and notepad.exe):

Part of the problem you have is you are setting a variable and then setting another variable based on the 1st one within the same command, when you do this all variables are set at the same time so technically when you try to do the 2nd SET command its blank as the first one isn't set if that makes sense?

SETLOCAL ENABLEDELAYEDEXPANSION fixes that issue

I generally run windows aero theme across all four monitors which i am happy with. However when i run a music app called cubase 5, i hear all sorts of squeaks and glitches when i simply move my cursor around the screen. The problem resolves itself when i switch to the standard windows classic theme.

My question is:

How do i write a simple windows batch file that when run by doubleclicking an icon will:

1) switch the theme to windows classic
2) run cubase.exe
3) switch back to windows aero theme when i exit cubase.

I appreciate you considering my query.

All the best.

Andy

A:Is it possible to create a windows batch file to do this?

Something like this should do
Code:
"%windir%\Resources\Ease of Access Themes\classic.theme"
"C:\location\cubase.exe"
tasklist | find "cubase.exe"
if errorlevel 1 "%windir%\Resources\Themes\aero.theme"
pause
Please change cubase filename and location for appropriate ones - I do not have that program.
Delete "pause" if you want cmd window to close upon completion too.

Personalization window will pop up, but that is a regular thing: it always pops up if you start theme file in any way.

If the file exists it runs another batch file called RunMe.bat
If the file doesn't exist it pings for 2min and then starts over.
:Begin is a label. Once it is finished pinging it goes back to the label called :Begin

I wrote a simple batch file to combine several files in a directory into one file (copy /b file_1 + file_2...) where file_1, etc. are video files. I then placed the batch file in all the directories I want to use it in.

It works perfectly if I open a command prompt, navigate to the directory and run it. But it would be much quicker if I could do it from the Windows file manager. I navigate to the directory, right click on the batch file, select run as administrator and while I don't get an error message it does not work. Is there a trick to this? Is it even possible to run a batch file from the Windows environment?

HDDStatus - Tool to check hard disk status, health and reliability

Hey,

I've been using GoodSync for the past couple of months to chain synchronize 3 hard disk drives and ran into my first issue today. GoodSync stopped responding whilst synchronizing changes to files so I used task manager to manually end the process.

I'm not entirely sure how much damage has been caused but when I re-analyzed the file changes a lot of the changes prior to the crash was no longer listed.. So I'm unsure of the file integrity but have so far noticed some music video files are corrupt with cyclic redundancy check errors but is not easily visible to check corrupt files because they still play but parts of data are missing.

I think I've experienced cyclic redundancy check errors before when my external hard drive fell flat on it's side whilst it was playing music (3 years ago). It took me a long time to filter out the bad files because all the mp3 files worked but some songs would randomly play in others etc.. is their some type of automated CRC scanner or method to check all my files ?

Thanks

Hi
My system is running Win 7 Professional 32 bit with 4gig RAM
I am experiencing a problem installing a piece of software - Laplink PC Mover - I need to migrate to my new machine.
The installer starts and the grinds to a halt with the error message:
"Error 1310. Error writing to file: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Laplink PCMover Professional\Visit Laplink.com.url. Verify that you have access to that directory"
I understand from Laplink Tech Support that this is a generic Windows Installer problem, and searching the web it seems to crop up a lot.
I have done a lot of searching, including this site.
I have tried the solutions I have found so far:

Run as Administrator [my user profile has administrator rights but I tried that anyway]Run from the Administrator user accountInstall in Safe Mode - Windows tells me the installer is not available in safe mode!!!Un-registering and re-registering the installer via msiexecUsing the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions
After all of this, I get the same result - the installer halts with the same message.
Can anybody help? I am desperate to avoid two days solid re-installing all my expensive software, finding product keys etc.

A:Error 1310. Error writing to file....Verify that you have access to that directory

Thanks
I had tried a clean boot [disabling all non-MS services] but had the same problem.
In the end, I contacted Microsoft support who took remote control of the PC and reset permissions etc with "Repair Windows" from tweaking.com. Whole process took a few hours.
Cost me 65, but worth it to save my remaining hair!
Software then installed okay.

Hi

I copied some files from my old HP laptop with xp, burnt them with burnaware onto a dvd. Now on my new laptop (lenovo g580 W7 64bit) I tried to take them off the DVD and move to my local drive, when I was moving them from disc to drive explorer gave me a message saying 'Invalid MS-dos function' and the usual try again or cancel option.

Thinking some of the files on disc might be corrupt I ran

xcopy F:\*.*/s > C:\test1

And got the message in my topic title File creation error - Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

Now I don't have clue what this means and I can only tell you I have an output file in C, as per the command instructions, with almost all the files listed, some are missing but some of the ones there are the corrupt ones and some of the ones missing I think are fine.

Doesn't really lead me to the issue unless someone can decipher the error message I got?

Thanks

I am using Windows ME in a new Dell Dimension 4100 series, Pentium 3, 1.1 gig, MSN Office 2000 Professional.

I am having trouble saving a word document that was e-mailed to me. I did a "save as" into "my documents." Then I changed something in the document, and I saved it. Upon closing the document I was asked if wanted to save changes and I said yes.(this confused me as I don't normally get this when I do the normal 'save' under the 'file tab')
Later when I went to open this document, I got an error message, "Locked for editing by another user, click notify to open as a read only copy". When I clicked on notify, I got another error message,"Winword has caused an error in winword.exe. Winword will now close.Try restarting your computer."

When I tried to delete this document, I got the message "Cannot delete file. Access is denied. Source file may be in use."

I experimented and again saved into my documents, again made a change, hit save and closed the doc. When I got the message asking me if I wanted to save the changes, I said no. This procedure enabled me to reopen the document.

I don't understand what is happening and why the key seems to be how I answer the question, do you want to save the changes?

Can someone help?
Thanks

A:Word doc-error messages: locked, winword error, source file

SOUNDS LIKE (tho I'm not sure), that Word didn't exit properly at least that one time. Next time it happens, and you believe Word to be closed, hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and see if "winword" is still in the task list. If so, click on it and hit End Task. Then delete your file.

If your programs aren't "really" closing down, you may just need to clean up your hard drive. Follow the instructions at:

Laptop running XP came up with this error today.

First is gave the Network Control errors about IP addresses accessing different things that took me to a list of bogus anti-virus software to download.

This eventually leads to Internet Explorer launching a bunch of windows full of bad links, like a bunch of porn type stuff.

Then it would not let me click on anything to install any scanning software without the Application cannot be executed error.

Finally I was able to run rskill from a usb drive and that stopped the Application cannot be executed error ... but the other Network Control popup keeps coming back.

I scanned with Adaware and removed those results ...

I tried to scan with Spybot, but it would not without an update and I did not want to connect to a network

I scanned with superantispyware scanner and removed what it found.

I tried to scan with avast, but the Network Control error came up and rebooted the machine by force and stopped that. Tried that twice with the same result.

I was able to get into Add/Remove programs and found the MediaBar 2.0 installed. I took that off -- wondering if that was the start of all this...

GMER scan too forever ... about 1.5 hours and the Network Controll popup caused a forced reboot before it could finsih ... so no GMER log yet.

I have an error message: An error occurred while loading a file. AOL will attempt to restore the file. My emails, however, are affected. I have email icons without subjects. The emails do open but I cannot know what they are or who sent them prior to opening and I cannot download attachments, answer or forward the messages. This is a potential disaster if I cannot fix this quickly.

Any help appreciated.

This occurs in Vista on a new Viao laptop when trying to run a proggy written for windows. Apparently Vista lacks csrastl.ocx which I have copied from this XP home machine and registered it in Vista windows/system32. The install proggy was deliberately modified to take account for this but the situation has now changed and that peeps is no longer available to help.

Is there a quick and easy answer?
cheers
Lil

A:Solved: Error 75 in RS Home, Path/File access error

I had a query up on another forum where this has been answered.

The software had been written for earlier versions of windows so Vista did not have an appropriate file in its registry. Copying, pasting and registering this file in Windows system32 with the AUC switched off and a modified proggy downloaded and installed has done the trick. This problem and another has kept me busy all the weekend.
Cheers everybody.

Error 1310. Error writing to file c:\config.msi... verify that you have access to that directory.

A:Error 1310. Error writing to file c:\config.msi... verify

What you do when something like that pops up, like during an installer, is you Take Ownership of the folder or file - then click the box in the installer to try again.

You don't want to take ownership of all of C: though, so what you can do is place a dummy text file there, then rename it exactly as the problem file that can not be written. Take ownership of the dummy file (just for good measure). Now, the installer can overwrite it.

8 is a little different security-wise than previous operating systems, notably at root of drives like your example.

Adobe is famous for this issue when updating stuff like Reader, even on 7 and below.

You'll sometimes see similar errors pop up in other ways when trying to run software, like access violation, or 0x00000005. Sometimes, it's just a permission issue with some data it wants to access, crashing the software.

There are other advanced ways to give yourself (your Windows account) similar admin powers like 7 and below, using group policy editor.

Hi all,

Huge problem regarding permissions on my (massively unstable) PC. I try to run ANYTHING including .dlls with admin permissions and i get a nice little "ding", and error message regarding the relevent .dll and File system error -1073741792, including one just before I get to the logon screen (think it was called "WINMM.dll", which yes, is "microsoft mouse", but my mouse still appears to be working sooooo... confused... lol).

Also, when i try to system restore, I get an unspecified error, code (0x8000ffff). I don't get anymore info, it just apparently can't do it.

All this came about when i started my PC up after changing/installing NOTHING (since it last worked perfectly), and it randomly said the disk integrity of C: (64GB kingston SSD running the OS but no installed programs) had to be checked, before several black screens of text whizzed by, deleting and then repairing registry entries. It has done this once before, (completely different symptoms, but same root cause of this windows integrity checker thingy), but i fixed it by transferring my account files to a new account, deleting the old one, and presto, instant new admin profile with full permissions again, but problem is, what with nothing that requires admin status working, I can't create a new account this time.

If anything seems unclear about what I've just written, please ask, and I'll clarify, but I've been battling with this all day, and need to get some rest befor I ... Read more

Recently whenever I've used an .exe installer I'll get an error as soon as I click start after choosing the directory, in the picture example I include below, it's of SA-MP, but it happens with any installer I try and use. Installers have worked previously, it's only recently it's stopped working.
The error is;
Error opening files for writing.

Picture;

What I've tried;
-Full system scan with Comodo AV.
-Revealed hidden files and folders.
-Run the installer in both compatability (Even though it does work on Win7, and as an Administrator).
-Also done the scan on CMD (can't remember exact command).

If you need additional information, don't hesitate to ask.
Brief Info:
OS: Win7 Home Premium 64bit.

A:[ERROR] 'Error opening file for writing' whilst using ANY installer.

Installers are not even accessible to Admins. They are owned by trusted Installer. Have you tried taking ownership? See tutorials here on SF.

Hello,

I have recently bought my new laptop on which I have installed some (old) software which is used for accounting. That software is made in DOS. Maximum resolution of my laptop display is 1280 x 720

When I open my software using BATCH file (as I always did), DOS window becomes streched, specially by height which oversizes my display height and I can't see content-data of my software. Please see screen bellow

and this is how code of my BATCH file looks like:

Code:
PATH=C:\;C:\DLL1.9;C:\DBASE
cd..
CD mpsg
CD MP2014
DATE
MPSW
Problem is that I can't figure ot how to change the code of the BATCH file in order to show screen of my software in controlled size (for example 640x480)?

Any help is appreciated and many thanks in advance for prompt reply!

Adi

A:Issues with dimensions of DOS BATCH file on my Windows 7

Well the biggest problem here is windows 7 does not use DOS. DOS was eliminated after XP i believe. So with that being said you probably will encounter some compatibility issues which may require you to update to a much more modern accounting program. While that may not be what you really want to hear it is the truth; as no one(well very very few people) use DOS anymore as its ancient and beyond its time. Again biggest reason here is compatibility issues which is most likely why you cant see anything.

Hi folks,

I have created a simple batch file for 3 songs to be played with wmp. See below:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" -open "D:\Stuff\Music\Playlists\Music.wpl" -start
exit

When I click on the bat file icon it runs as intended: wmp opens up and moves through the play list... if I wish to stop the application I can simply close wmp and hey presto... no more music.

I then experimented using the task scheduler with this bat file with the idea of using my computer for an alarm clock. I have been playing around with it with the intention of being able to put my comp into hibernation mode and then have it wake and execute my play list at a given time.

The first problem I encountered was that my comp was waking from hibernation but couldn't automatically launch the bat file as the default vista security feature requests the user to re-enter his password at the log on screen. I got round this issue by switching this security feature off but if possible I would like to know if there is any script I could add to my bat file which could automatically re-enter my password upon wake up so I can keep this default security feature switched on????

My second question concerns the means by which the task schedule seems to be operating when it wakes up from hibernation... unlike from when I manually click the bat file icon, no wmp appears to be getting launched yet sure enough my comp is playing the music play list in my bat... Read more

Hello:

I have a Batch File, to move a file to a different folder, that I would like to run from Windows Task Scheduler on a windows server 2008 R2 . The batch file itself works, however running it from Windows Task Scheduler does not work. I am trying to move the file within the L drive.

I tried entering in Program/Script box: cmd
and in the add arguments: /c start "" "C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\Test.bat"

But no luck. Any Idea why.

Thanks much!

Shloma

A:Windows Task Scheduler Batch File

This is genuinely a wild guess and I could be entirely wrong but, could it be that the L drive hasn't entirely initialized yet on startup? Perhaps the script is being run too soon?
