Dell Studio 1536 HD issues after update

Q: Dell Studio 1536 HD issues after update

Hey, has anyone ever heard of this? I have a Dell laptop that told me it needed to update my video drivers, so I did and all hell broke loose. I couldn't run AVG, everything was bogged down and it took FOREVER to open folders or files. I tried restore it but all restores points were gone, and I tried using Dell CDs to restore the HD put it keep failing. I finally had to pull the drive out and hook it by USB to another system (also running AVG) and scanned it. It said I had only two virii, both Win32/Heur in the updated ATI drivers. After it scanned I used AVG on the desktop computer to quarantine the files and heal them. It told me it couldn't because they longer existed. Then when I tried to look at the contents of that partition, it was blank. When I put it back in the laptop, it tried to boot but fails saying no bootable media exists. Now multiple errors are popping up with other hardware on the system.

I hooked it back up to the desktop and I can still see the drive but no files? Any clues on what I've done?

I posted in the virus and malware forum but they said it looked like a windows issue.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

TD

Sorry I can't give any log files but they're just vanished...

You will probably have to purchase a Dell restore disc for your model laptop and do a fresh install of Windows

Drivers on a Dell have to be installed in the correct order, reinstall XP clean and start over, this time follow the correct order.

Hello,

For the past two weeks my laptop has been beeping. It doesn't beep when I first turn the computer on. Once I'm to the desktop it starts to beep and it's VERY inconsistent. It may beep 5 every five minutes or every 20 minutes. Sometimes it beeps once and other times its beeped two or three times fast. And occasionally I get the BSOD saying something about "dumping my physical memory." On top of that when I load the computer I get an error saying that my Catalyst Control Centre is not working. I just assumed all these things were connected.

A few months ago my hard drive died so I installed a new one. I haven't had any issues until the issues I listed above, all of which start just a few weeks ago. Unfortunately my warranty has expired so Dell's support hasn't been much help.

So does this sound like the hard drive I installed is creating the issues? Any advice is very helpful!

A:Dell Studio 1536 with Vista 64 has a continuous beep and BSOD

Have you checked for crud in your keyboard... any cause for a sticking key, sticking space bar, etc.

Don't see how the hard drive could cause the problem.

Have you looked at all the Dell Beep Codes... They are posted elsewhere on this TechSpot forum... that could give you a starting point.

Please note, I believe there is definitely a major hardware issue here, but I have not myself ruled out W7's involvement.

I ordered a Studio 17 (i7) on December 10th or so. It arrived two days ago. It was working great until I opened it up yesterday and logged on, as I had done many times already. It then pretty much just froze. No mouse input, nothing changing in Windows, etc. So I turned it off.
______________________________

Since that restart, one of two things happens:
With A/C Adapter:

1) I see the Dell logo with the F2/F12 text. The progress bar finished, and that screen disappears.

2) About half the time, a warning will appear saying the wattage and type of the A/C adapter could not be determined, etc. I cannot get past this (due to a lack of input as described below). If not that screen, then it will display either just a blank black screen, or a black screen with a blinking cursor (that of a command prompt).

3) After waiting for up to a minute, Windows will finally appear with my account ready to enter a password to and log on. I have ZERO keyboard or mouse input, so this is impossible. The capacitive touch controls do not light up or respond, and neither does the backlit keyboard light up.

Without A/C Adapter:

1) Same as (1) above.

2) It will display either the blank black screen or the black screen with the mentioned blinking cursor on it. I will wait for up to a minute, and (3) above will be encountered.

Hi,

I ran into a series of non responsive programs and start up issues. I have been able to fix them up till now using the start up repair in vista. Currently, the repair is failing to solve the blue screen im getting at startup. The screen flashes to fast to read it.On attempt #4 on the startup repair.

I posted on the dell forums and the only suggestion they could give was to update the BIOS. I was successful in doing so, but it turned out useless.

I have ran a memory diag, and the scn disk things. Both came out clean or repaired from what I can tell, correctly.

Any suggestions?

You have three options.
(1) Send the motherboard in to be repaired (poor choice) I have used this option several times. Fast fail again rate is very high. You can easily find people on ebay that fix boards.
(2) Get a new motherboard if you love the laptop and it is very good condition other wise
(3) Junk it and get a new laptop (best option)

im playing Cities XL right now , and something very annoying is going on .
( by the way happened in a couple of other games too )
but .. whenever im starting a new game , everything goes smooth as it should , but after a couple of neighbourhoods im building (lots of objects to render) , it becomes impossible to play ! fps drops to something like 20\19 .
and i seen the benchmarks for this game a year ago , the best performance was on gtx 480 ! with 40 fps Min !

and the weirdest thing is , that when im exiting the game , my gpu fan works as in idle mode( i can hear the difference , in BF3 it's god damn loud as Jet ) , and the gpu mhz usage is really low , almost as when im just browsing my PC .

any ideas?

A:Low In-game performance on gtx 580 GXT 1536 mb .

Having you contacted nVidia? Sometimes certain programs and games will have issues with their current driver set. I know with ATI every monthly update usually includes various performance gains and fixes for a variety of software, more specifically, games.

Its possible updating your driver to the latest (if you havent) or contacting nVidia might be your best bet. You could help them uncover a driver issue...(this also can apply to certain settings, and not others. For example you could get awesome FPS at 1600x900 but horrible at 1920x1080...)

My problem is that I am trying to restore a friend's Dell Studio 1555 laptop back to its factory settings, I follow the procedure mentioned on Dell's website however there is no Dell Factory Image Restore option. I have checked the laptop's Disk Management and there is a Recovery partition, in fact there are 3 partitions:

1. A 39MB OEM partition with no letter assigned.

2. C: Simple Basic NTFS with Status Healthy (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition) 451GB.

3. Recovery: Simple Basic NTFS with Status Healthy (System, Active, Primary Partition) 14.65GB.

In short, when the computer starts I hit F8, I enter the Advanced Boot Options and select Repair Your Computer. I then select the language and login with the administrative account, however there is no Dell Factory Image Restore option there. My options are shown the image below:

Another issue that concerns me is that on the picture above it says Windows 7 on (D: ) Local Disk, however there is no such partition on the laptop's disk.

I would be thankful if anyone could give some advise on how to restore the laptop to its factory settings using the recovery partition. Thank you.

A:Dell Studio 1555 to factory settings,no Dell Factory Image option

On a Dell, if some other OS was installed, the Dell "PC Restore" (Recovery Partition) is no longer valid (corrupted) and the only way to reinstall is with a Windows OS installation disc and then download whatever device drivers you need from the Dell downloads.

Hi Guys,

Just wondered if anyone can give me a heads up on sound cards for the Dell 760.

Basically my computer is struggling atm running FL Studio 12 so i was debating getting another, here's a listing i found on eBay which seems to meet all the spec .. (item number 131634755351).

The main thing i need to know is about the sound card. On FL Studio requirements it states - Sound card with directsound drivers, compatible with ASIO/ASIO2 for recording.

Here's a link of what i need if any body fancys looking https://support.image-line.com/knowledgebase/base.php?ans=82

I have seen (i think) sound cards for the DELL 760 but want to be sure that they will fit if i do require to add an additional to the basic one installed.

So the route of my question is will this be ok to run the software on its installed sound card? and if i do require a additional sound card for output for example the (sound Blaster Z) would this fit or be adpatable?

Would be great if you could help me..

THANKYOU!

then i am given the option to send info to microsoft
it doesn't seem to matter if i send or not. the start up repair menu remains
asking "if you have reciently attached an exterrnal device, mp3, camera ect.. contact admin if you keep seeing this message."
"click finish to shut down your comp."
2 options are at bottom of menu top one says "view diognostic details
the bottom one says "view advanced options for recovery and support"
clicking on either seems to just result in a frozen screen and the compter never boots up.

(typed on my iPad). Pc shut down last night as usual. This morning completely dead, no beeps, nothing, except for one power light on back. Everything else, Wacom monitor & pad, regular monitor, etc have power. I checked all cables, replugged, opened the tower, reseated stuff, blew out dust, nothing.

The only problem I've been having that might be related is on sites with heavy graphics, like Pinterest, it slows or freezes, (though i had the thing custom configured for graphic artist programs like Painter & Photoshop) and begins making a loud humming sound. It shows that Firefox is using millions of CPUs (maybe not the right term). So I'll close the browser and start over. Humming goes away.

So, any ideas on where to start reviving the dead giant? It's 3 or 4 years old and I've been wishing I could switch to a Mac but not like this. I have a gazillion files on it that I NEED.

It is overeating. The humming is probably a fan that has stuck.

Good Day Folks,

Long time lurker, first time poster. This is a great forum and the advice is greatly appreciated.

I have a Dell Studio 15 laptop. I've had it for a little over 1 year now, and I mainly use it for web browsing, work, and email.

Recently I noticed that my fan was running a little faster than normal. I didn't think about it too much. Even more recently, I have been playing Dragon Age Origins on my computer, and have noticed it getting quite hot to the touch on the keypad. At one point, it shut itself off. At this point, I downloaded RealTemp, and discovered that my computer was running at about 75 C, while idol. Not good.

I researched quite a bit, and decided to open up the back panel, and use compressed air to clean out the fan. I also opened the heatsink and cleaned it out. I then noticed the rubber-like compound under the sink had somewhat melted, so I bought some new thermal paste, and applied it back to the sink.

Although my temperature dropped, I'm still running at about 70 C. My fan works very well, (it runs fairly high at all times, and screams at others.) so I don't think that's the issue. All heatsink points are covered with the stock padding, or the thermal grease.

I also downloaded Everest, and it gave me similar temperature readings.

Does anyone know why this has started to happen?

My computer has been very odd for the last several months.  I've gotten lots of serious viruses and have reinstalled Windows countless times.  After getting everything reinstalled again onSaturday night, I went to bed leaving the computer on over night to recieve updates and render some video stuff I was working on.  Unfortunately, when I turned the computer screen back on, I saw just a huge glob of random distorted pixels everywhere, with weird patterns and such.  When I did some research, I found it was my graphics card that had crashed, and I then started the pc back up as normal, yet it got stuck at the Windows 7 flag with "starting windows".  I had a extra failsafe partition with no OS on it, and I proceeded to put the installation disk in and boot it up.  Unfortunately, the Windows disc wouldn't even boot up.  I then ran a diagnostics test that gave me error code 2000-0146 (which usually means a failing hard drive) when running the DST short test.  I know for 100% the hard drive is fine and has nothing wrong with it so I'm not sure what the problem is.  I think it is some underlying virus, but who knows what exactly it is.

I'm currently running of the partion magic linux included on HBCD to go here.  I'm so confused about what the problems are.  i'm frustrated and I really need to get this computer back up to full health ASAP for work.

Hey everyone,

Dell is having a pretty nice sale on this laptop for the next 36 hours, $400 off. I have been looking at buying a new laptop for some time and am looking pretty heavily at this one. The reviews I have read are 90% really good. Excellent performance, durability, not too loud, etc.

The biggest complaints I have read are the size/weight and heat.

I dont plan on traveling the world, mostly just something for my wife for use at home, and the occasional road trip. I'd imagine a little bulk isnt bad with all the hardware in it.

Is the heat a problem? I could see this being used in the car, but mostly at home, maybe a pillow between the lap and the computer?

Also, the screen come with 2 options, the default is FHD Widescreen 15.6inch WLED LCD (1920x1080). The other option is FullHD Widescreen 16.0 inch RGBLED LCD (1920x1080). This upgrade is also on sale ($100 instead of $175) but is it really worth it? My knowledge on LCD's is really lacking.

The use of the computer will be for internet and movies, and some games (WoW, Modern Warfare 2, spore, Sims) I'm aiming for a little overkill on performance so that I wont have to worry about upgrades or replacement for a while.

Hi mate,

The heat on a laptop is important but it depends for what purposes. As for you for little gaming, movies and internet in other words home use the heat won't be a big problem as the laptop will not on continuous running for long hours thus heat won't be a great problem.

Now for the Screen both are good and will satisfied you now choose the better price for you as both have good resolution and both are LED LCD meaning less power/battery consumption and less heat due LED LCD are not too much hungry as normal LCD screens.

Hope it helps.

Hello SF!

Yesterday, i installed Windows 7 Home Premium on my sister's Dell Studio 1735, but there aren't W7 drivers for this model (Only Vista 32/64) and there are 2 devices i cant install cause WU can't find their drivers (Unknown Devices), i DO have the Recovery and OEM Partitions, to revert it to Win Vista, thing is i don't want to.. Win Vista STINKS!

So, there's any chance for me to actually install those 2 drivers? or should i revert it to Win Vista??

Thanks in advanced!

A:Dell Studio 1735

What devices are they? Look on the manufacturer's site for drivers. If you can't find any for 7, download the Vista ones. If they won't install, run them in compatibility mode for Vista.

Apparently Dell XPS' have more than 9 lives because I have gone through a complete replacement system, 10 hard drives, 3 motherboards, a fan or two, etc etc.

So the story is I bought an XPS 1640 in summer of 2009, went through about 5 or 6 hard drives and a motherboard and other replacements I simply can't remember because I've gone through so many service requests. Eventually pops did some serious "complaining" and got Dell to replace it with a brand new XPS 1645. Since then I've gone through two motherboards, a fan, and around 4-6 hard drives. Luckily, I got a 4 year parts warranty, so I'm just losing my time and personal files. Other than that, Dell can fork out the money as much as they want.

I consider myself a decent computer user. I can build a desktop from scratch, I know all the parts, etc, but obviously I don't know enough to know what's going on here. I most recently had a motherboard and fan replacement. I don't visit dangerous sites, I use a pad with a cooling fan, have anti-virus, malware, and spyware protection programs. Basically, I don't know what more to do.

After getting the computer back the fan is running constantly and that is always a bad sign to me. I can literally tell when its gunna go because response time slows down and everything in the computer slows down. Thus, I'm feelin another hard drive crash again here soon.

So, do I just have the midas touch-of-death with computers, or is ther... Read more

My Dell Studio 1537 Just stopped booting to OS. I turn it on it goes to the dell logo then to choose an option Eg. Test Memory Test System Exit. I can't even get into safe mode. I went to test system and it goes to main menu Service tag 5SLGZIS With tags Express Test Extended Test Custom Test Symptom Tree. I went to system tree and selected Cannot boot OS and pressed run tests it comes up with error code 0F00.075D Msg_0-self-test Read error. I can't believe this has happened because my 2 TB hard Ext hard drive just crashed now my laptop has done the same can someone please help me.

A:Dell Studio won't boot to os

It sounds like the hard drive has failed. Doing a Google search for the error code all say the hard drive has died.

BTW, you should edit your post and remove the service tag number. Dell considers this personal data (and is forbidden on the Dell users forum).

Just after the October 22 release date, Dell posted some new graphics and other drivers for Windows 7. How can I tell whether they are needed, or should I assume that Windows Update takes care of making sure the latest drives are installed?

A:Drivers for Dell Studio

I like to work under the thinkg that if it isn't broken don't fix it. But if Dell has released specific 7 drivers for your system. You can check what driver is installed simply by going to device manager and clicking on that device and checking the driver detail tab. If your unhappy with the graphics prefromance now then I would probably install their new driver.

Had to reinstall Windows Vista OS and of course lost everything. Reloaded the Drivers and utilities CD. Now cannot connect to my home network. ?This computer does not have a network adapter installed and configured?. Went to device manager and under the ?other devices? tab, everything under it has the yellow exclamation marks. Also the display is not right. Under the ?display adapters? tab the ?Standard VGA Graphics Adapter? also has the yellow exclamation mark. I have disabled and enabled all of them to no avail. Also checked the services and they seem to be started. Not sure exactly which ones should be started but all the ones about networking are running. Home network is working because I have other devices running from it just fine. I?m a little overwhelmed at this point. Also trying to sift through the archives at the same time. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Eric1555, welcome to SF!

You have too many dumps to check... so for now I only did the last one and it is somewhat clear on a possible reason for you problems.

You are connecting a USB device that is causing problems (either the device, its drivers or the corresponding usb drivers.)
I suspect Creative Camera Class Upper Filter Driver....

You?ve got error messages on multiple USB drivers related to it. Please, as a test, disconnect, de-install the corresponding camera software and, if connected through a usb hub, disconnect that too.

Hello! First time poster.

I come with a problem that has been posted before but, since he didn't had an answer, nor answered himself with his solution, I ask again.

I have a dell studio 15 that's 2 years and a half old. It have always had overheating issues, but with some clenaing with compressed air it wasn't a big trouble.

Now, I formated and reinstaled windows a month ago. A week ago my windows partition decided to stop working, so i had to backup with linux, format and reinstall. Since then the pc has been kind of unstable, over heating and shuting down randomly, and not booting windows for a while after that. First, I tried installing all the drivers, includion bios updates. Since that didin't do much, I thought that doing some clean up will resolve the problem, so i opened up using dell's support manual, and disasemble the cooler to blow over there.
When opened, I notice something strange (Ive uploaded some pictures of it). Some of the (I think it is) thermal paste has melted, leaving the two parts to be in direct contact. Since i don't know much about hardware, I just looked and took photos, blow and cleaned everything, and closed up.

I've downloaded RealTemp, and I'm having 60-70 while idle, and 70-90 while gaming (and random shutting ups), even with and open window near the laptop. (I'm in winter here )

Well, what i really wanted to know was if that in the picture is normal, and if is not, if that can be the cau... Read more

A:Dell studio 15 overheating

In a perfect world, the parts would be perfectly flat, be placed in direct contact with each other, and no thermal paste would be used. As that is not the case, the thermal paste is used to fill the inconsistencies and aid in cooling. In other words, what you see is normal.

You can completely remove the paste from both pieces, reinstall more thermal paste (only a small amount is needed), and put them back together.

Having said all of that, as that model has always had overheating issues, there isn't likely much that can be done. Always use the laptop on a hard surface (ie: desk or table top), and you could use a cooling pad.

If you guys have any other suggestions feel free.
And sorry if this isn't in the right topic.

A:Will this PSU fit my Dell Studio XPS 8100?

It may "fit", but that doesn't mean anything.

At one time, most Dells used a proprietary wiring setup on their power supplies. For those PCs, you could NOT simply change to an industry-standard ATX power supply.

Dell has largely moved away from that practice, but a Google search implies that some Dells (possibly including the XPS 8100) still use proprietary wiring on PSUs. I couldn't quickly find definitive information.

So you may still need a "special" PSU for that PC and that may be what the Ebay dealer is selling.

But even then I wouldn't buy the PSU you linked. It's a no-name brand and you have no way of evaluating it nor do you know anything about its noise level (which I guess is one of your complaints).

I would:

1: Google to try to find definitive info on whether or not you need a "special" PSU for your PC.
2: If you do, I would then buy a standard ATX PSU along with a connection adapter designed to allow use of a standard ATX PSU in this particular Dell. The adapters are widely available for about $15. Endpcnoise.com is one source for the adapter--among others.

I'd get a Seasonic or Corsair PSU that are known to have low noise levels. You may have to spend a bit more money.

On the other hand, you may find that your PC can use a standard PSU---in which case you would not need the adapter.

At any rate, I would not buy that Ebay PSU regardless. Go somewhere like Newegg as a source.

I'd also measure the existing PSU and make sure th... Read more

A:Dell Studio XP Drivers?

A lot of prebuilt resellers are doing the whole "we're not offering Windows whatever drivers" hogwash on their websites, even if the hardware itself is compatible. I've found this with my laptop (Asus F3 series) and with my gaming rig (Asus M2N SLI Deluxe).

Usually, however, if you find the manufacturer of the hardware component itself, you can find some generic drivers or manufacturers drivers that will function.

Considering that Dell has a "switch to XP for $50" option on a lot of their desktops, I imagine you shouldn't have too much trouble.

As for your video card, there are a few sites that specialize in making generic drivers for mobile chipsets. The problem with mobile chipsets is that often a vendor will to lock you into using only their drivers, rather than the OEM drivers from ATI/AMD or Nvidia. That's why those third party sites exist.

I'd worry about the other components of your laptop more than the video card.

Problem:

On Christmas night, I did as I usually did - turned off my Dell PC by holding the power button until it all turns black and went to sleep with the charger still plugged in AS USUAL.

Then the morning of December 26, my PC did NOT turn on - and guessing it "broke" with no apparent warning. I took out the charger, waited a couple hours, and plugged my charger back in, hoping there was a power-outage Christmas night. The charger light turned white, indicating charge was being put in, and then it turned off, indicating charge was finished - and my pc still DID NOT turn on!

I also have Mcafee Virus Remover, which automatically scans my pc and destroys viruses each and every day.

What the hell is the problem here!?

In the real world this NEVER happens, it is only a wish. Who taught you to hold the power button to shut down Windows? You could have corrupted the hard drive. Have you ever used a mouse to select the Start button and shutting down the notebook that way? The motherboard could be toast too

Hi guys, new to the forum.

My girlfriend owns a Amilo Pi 1536, she's had for about 2years and never had any major issues with it.

But in the recent month or so, theres been quite serious problem. The charger connector (the metal/plastic bit that connects charger and laptop) gets very very hot, touch it and you get slight burnt! The charger tip has had to be changed, the plastic had melted and smelt burnt after awhile. So, the tip's been changed and the the overheating tip is still an issue.
And now the tip has (i think) melted inside the laptop and is stuck inside the laptop. how can i remove the laptop charger connector from the laptop?

The laptop it self seems to be working well and quite hot, but with the norm (I think). Its just the charger connector tip that's the problem.

Any help guys!! Please!!
Could it be the charger not working correctly? The laptops PSU not up to scratch? Bios problem? ... I don't want the laptop to stop working altogether!!

PS. the laptop was bought in Spain, and we're in the UK (if that's a possible problem). Battery life isn't great. Already cleaned the laptop with compressed air and have the fans with good access to air (the laptop is on "stilts").

A:Amilo Pi 1536 Charger/Battery Heat problem

The heat may have been generated by cold solder joints on the connector inside the laptop. There is only one option for you. Take the laptop into a service center and have them replace the charging AC jack on the laptops motherboard. Hopefully this can still be done

Hi,
I have a serious issue. I have just upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. The very first Windows update without even touching the keyboard will automatically download is the following troublesome one:
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver version 6.0.1.7535  This affects the sound over the external speakers as no sound thereafter. Before this download, the sound over the external speakers is normal and loud. I even used Microsoft's recommended  wushowhide.diagcab  I ran that tool. It caught the driver and HID the driver only for windows update to override it and there goes the hidden driver. The driver downloads again. I remove it from Add and Remove and restart and before u know it, within seconds, before u can think of another solution the driver is installed and the sound disappears again.
For Dell Studio XPS 435 mt, this is a big problem. Please help me get rid of this download once and for all permanently.

Hoping some wise soul has an answer I don't. I have a Dell Studio with fingerprint ID which is what I always used to log on. There is also a password option.

The laptop is a family laptop, children have changed password but forgotten. No problem as my fingerprint still works.....right up until the UKASH malware locks it up. Does anyone have any idea if indeed I can somehow log in with fingerprint ID in safe mode so that I can address the malware issue? I'm so frustrated and perhaps may have to pay someone to help with the issue, but I thought I would try here first. Any ideas are sincerely appreciated.

I have ONLY 2 choices - either buy Apple laptop or Dell laptop.I have been using Windows machines till today..... but ....I am more inclined towards Apple ......... I like Apple hardware and would like to run Windows 7 pro with XP mode along with Mac OS.

Are there any issues running W7 with XP mode on Macbook Pro 14? I want to install old version of Microsoft office on W7 since I will be using this laptop for presentations at conferences (mostly MS Excel and PowerPoint presentations and occasionally MS Word).

Also, Do I need to buy W7 with XP mode or just W7 will do the job? Does it matter whether I buy 32-bit or 64-bit W7 as far as old version of Microsoft office is concerned.

Apple is recommending VMware Fusion 3.1 or Parallels 6 for seamless transition between Mac OS and W7, which one shall I buy?

Thanks a LOT.

I bought a Dell 1745 Studio with Windows 7 in January. I played with it and try out different programs etc - basically experimented to see what programs I wanted and didn't want. Anyway I decided to do a Recovery to Factory Image. this was 2 days ago. I updated a lot of bios, drivers etc from the Dell site but I think maybe I should of been more selective about what I updated because I am now haveing huge problems with IE freezes along with Windows 7 freezing up. So I am wondering if I could do another recovery and be a lot more selective about my updates etc. Would this use up more memory or as I was told Window 7 doesn't use up extra memory. Also I am not a gamer I use it to design quilts, watch videos, etc... Please can someone help me out - THANKYOU......VERLON56

I have a Dell Studio 1558 that will not boot.
When plugged in to the adapter, with our without battery, the white light on the laptop by the power port lights up for a second and then turns off. The adapter led is blue, and stays blue if unplugged.
When I press the power button (with/without battery, with adapter), the light on the power button turns on for a second, and the fan starts. If I hold the button for a second the fan starts and I can hear a click that sounds like the start of a boot but both stop after less than a second.
I've tried removing the adapter and battery and holding the power button for 30seconds (and one minute), and re-doing the boot steps again with and without battery.
I opened the back and re-seated the memory, put the battery back in, and plugged in the adapter, and pushed the power button. No power button light and fan doesn't turn on, but the adapter port light now blinks orange/white for a few seconds before it goes off again.
Took battery back off, and pressed power button. adapter port light blinks white for a second or two, then it turns off again. Still no power button light, still no fan...
So worse than before? Are there additional things I can try?
Thanks!

A:Dell Studio 1558 will not start

Hi MISC3389,
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed?
Something is causing the short circuit on the system and hence the issue.
Three components could be isolated to cause this issue: Adapter, DC port and motherboard.
So, try another adapter. If the issue is the same, then replace the dc port - you would need this part - http://bit.ly/2bZgPXB
If the issue still persists, then the motherboard needs to be replaced.
Presuming there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
Personally, I would suggest you to invest your money in a new machine than to repair this machine.

Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hey everyone,

So I run a Dell studio 1558. About a month ago I got a virus which corrupted my computer pretty bad, which eventually turned into the computer to stop booting up the operating system. I tried making a repair disc on another computer, but that made matters worse as well as that the recovery partition is corrupt/not working! Meaning I can't find the option to revert to factory settings. Then I called Dell to send me recovery disks (which when I received was a windows reinstallation cd and a drivers cd), and I tried doing that, but they didn't give me any instructions at all and refuse to help me without paying them $120 or some absurd amount since I am out of warranty.

So now I'm stuck in a serious issue I don't know how to fix. I tried using the reinstallation CD that Dell sent to wipe the main drive completely, but it gives me some weird option to load from one of two Windows 7 operating systems. It also shows me this weird BIOS utility screen every time I log on, which hasn't shown before when my computer was functioning properly. (I have included pictures to show what I'm talking about)

I really need some help here. I'm not sure what to do at all in this case! If anyone can tell me how I can fix my recovery partition or make it so my computer functions properly again, I would be very grateful

Thanks!

Hey guys, I've recently encountered a problem where when I try and switch my computer on, at the power button, it turns on for a few seconds then makes a little noise and turns off. Sometimes it doesn't switch off but it either says "Launch start Repair" or "Go to safe mode or start Windows normally."
Dell Studio 1555-7380
Windows 7

A:Dell Studio 1555 keeps switching off!

Im going to guess a bad power supply problem or a bad a/c adapter of some sort to start with. The only other thing could be a problem with the motherboard.

Hi all,
I received my laptop two days ago and for two days i got a weird, glitchy BSOD. I tried updating the graphics card drivers and BIOS yesterday but today, unfortunately, it happened again, the same weird glitch looking blue page and then a restart.
Attached are the two minidumps. Hope any of you can help me.

A:Dell Studio 1558 - BSOD once per day

The dmp(s) point to ntkrpamp.exe or ntoskrnl.exe as the probable cause. We know this is not the case, as these are core OS files, and will definitely not cause a BSOD. They are just the default files the debuggers blame when they can't see a better cause. Enable driver verifier using the following procedure..

- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

today i tried connecting to my wireless router through my laptop, which has been working just fine since is a new laptop, to get internet access seems like the status is connected but it wont access the internet, my router network is strong and when i try connecting it just wont, but my second laptop will. what would be the problem? could it be my built in card?

edit: seems like im connected now but network is really slow and it constantly disconnects and connects.
could it be a virus instead?..

A:dell studio wireless problem

If you have other wireless computers connected, sometimes IP addresses can become confused depending on how you have configured your router. If it is safe to do so then sometimes powering off your router for 30 seconds can fix this.

Also, scan your system with SuperAntiSpyware, trackers, when there are enough of them can cause these network symptoms also.

I have a 6 month old dell studio 1535, and since I turned it on this morning the keyboard has been unresponsive. I tried to just restart, but it did no good. I sign in through a built-in fingerprint reader, so i'm not sure if the keyboard stops working after sign-in or if it doesn't work from the start. Everything else seems to be functioning normally- no error messages, the touchpad is fine, and the laptop itself doesn't feel overly warm to the touch after running for 2 hours or so.

details: Dell Studio 1535 - Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 processor - 250G hdrive - windows vista - basic built-in keyboard (not backlit)

I'd appreciate any help or advice you can give- thanks, guys!

My daughter has a Dell Studio 540 running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and she's been asking me if it's OK to upgrade to Windows 10. Since I live several hundred miles from her I didn't want to tell her to go ahead until I had a chance to check things out and now I'm wondering myself what to do.

I fired up some Dell utility for drivers and updates and it came back with a message that said the Studio 540 had not been tested for compatibility with Windows 10 and if an upgrade was attempted things might not work. Of course that doesn't really mean they won't it only means that Dell hasn't tested anything and they're covering themselves just in case. Now The Windows Upgrade Icon is in her system tray and it says that the machine was tested and found to be compatible with no issues found so drivers might exist from Microsoft.

So, has anyone upgraded a Dell Studio 540? If so, what if any problems did you encounter?

A:Has anyone updated a Dell Studio 540 from Windows 7 to 10?

Microsoft is often provided with drivers not designed specifically for the computer, which means updating is risky. It probably will work, but you always run the risk of crashing, or small problems like it having a hard time coming out of sleep mode, etc.

If she really wants it, she can try it out, and revert back if it doesn't work in month provided to revert.

To remove the tray icon, do this: Get Windows 10 Icon - Remove from Taskbar in Windows 7 and 8.1 - Windows 10 Forums

Sorry for another dell studio post only a day after last one, but I'm really thinking of getting this, and then my friend's girlfriend got one and he said the sound from the speakers is rubbish... Does anyone know if this is true (compared to general laptop speakers that is) or perhaps does he just have unrealistic expectations?

I've read a few reviews saying they're bad, but some otherwise. Unfortunately don't think I'll get chance to hear them before i buy. Don't know if its enough to put me off buying, but would like to have decent speakers. To put it in perspective, I currently have an old (I mean oooollllddd) latitude, which doesnt have amazing speakers, but is acceptable.

A:Poor Dell studio Speakers?

didn't have the chance to hear a studios sound but you really should decide this yourself. maybe you can have a look at your friends girlfriends studio and listen what it is like.
its always difficult to tell and my desktop user always complain the sound when they use a laptop for traveling, just because they have external speakers on their desktop pc's and are used to this kind of sound...

Dell laptop had power issues originally a month before the warranty ran out and sent it in to Dell. They sent it back with a new power adapter. A few days later it is having problems again telling me to plug in a Dell power cord.... So I sent it back to Dell again. They replace the MLB and send it back. About a 60 days after that I start having problems again. All the same problems. I contact Dell and they get it again but don 't repair anything telling me I need to buy a new battery. So it stopped charging and I ordered a new battery. Now I have a new battery and when I put it in the laptop will work but it is not charging the battery. Although it is not draining the battery power either. It's at 51% and if I unplug it will not run on the battery itself. But it runs if it's plugged in but it won't charge or even show that it's plugged in.... Not real confident in Dell repair at this point. Should I try and buy a new power adapter... Could it have gone bad again? I am at a lost and ready to ditch this thing. Any advice or next steps would be appreciated.

Hello,

I know Dells usually don't allow for much customization or after market upgrades, but I vaguely remember one of the reasons I bought this particular model was because the description said that it allowed for that sort of thing.

So my question is can this Dell model be upgraded with say a better graphics card, power supply, etc?

The PC is 100% stock from Dell and I have made no changes what so ever to it after it shipped.

Dell Studio XPS 9100
Windos 7 64 bit
Intel Core i7 CPU; 960 @ 3.2GHz
12g RAM
AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series
I am unsure of the power supply. I want to say 400W?

Let me know if you need any more information. Thanks.

Hi Everyone!
I'm not sure if this topic has been covered before, I tried doing a search and couldn't find anything on it so that's why I started my own thread. I recently just purchased a Dell Studio XPS 13 laptop and just got it a little over a week ago. From the first day I got it, it froze up on me while installing firefox. I didn't think much of it so I just powered down by pressing the power button. Then a few days after that while trying to install the lojack for the computer it froze up again. I powered down and then before it even loaded completely on start up it froze again so again i powerd down. This happened 6 times over and over again and there were times when trying to boot back up the screen would just stay black and not load up at all. I finally talked to a dell tech support guy and he had me restore my laptop to factory. It didn't freeze up again after that for a couple days and then it started to do it again. Has anyone else have this problem with this particular laptop? Any suggestions on what it is or what I can do? Or do you guys think I have a defective laptop and should just exchange for another one? Help!

A:Help! My new Dell Studio XPS 13 Laptop keeps on freezing up!

Hi BeyondxFlatline
I'm currently experiencing the exact same thing on my Dell Studio XPS 13 laptop, and seeing the exact same scenarios as you describe. It seems the system locks up quiet randomly. Usually lockups like this happens when you run ressource demanding games, but this doesn't seem to be the case. I have been running hwmonitor (http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php) to check if i could see any heat related symptons and eventhough this laptop seems to have higher temperatures than usual, they don't seem critical to me. I have experinced my laptop freeze when; when the system has been idle and i have returned and moved my external mouse, other seemingly random moments and even when running dell diagnostics . I have also experienced that my system won't bootup after it has froze and that i needed to wait a little while before i could boot it again. I haven't talked to tech support yet, but it seems it might soon be a good idea.

Hello,
I'm having a boot issue with my Dell Studio 15. It just hangs at the XP splash screen and the load bar continually scrolls. I was previously able to boot in Safe Mode, but when I tried running MBAM it froze up. I had not noticed any signs of Malware prior to the boot issue. Running the scan was just my initial response. But now when I attempt to boot in Safe Mode it just freezes altogether. Trying to figure out if the OS is corrupted or if there's something wrong with my HD. Unfortunately I have not been able to find my copy of XP to attempt to run recovery. Appreciate any help to trouble shoot issue and hopefully fix it.
Thanks,

In this situation you can try to do a system restore offline. Hopefully you have System Restore enabled and a Restore Point close to the current date.

Go here and follow the steps to creart a ERD disk. Boot the CD and do a System Restore. It will do a partial system restore and hopefully let you boot up.

So I was given a Dell Studio 1735. I decided just because I want too, that I wanna try and change the  i'm processor, and the motherboard. Particularly the motherboard with the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650. I'd like to assume that the processor can be upgraded as I could do that with a Inspiron E1505, but maybe i'm wrong. I was sure on the motherboard but I had a friend say that the motherboard would probably have different screw locations. So I figured I'd ask the community if this is possible. Thank you.

A:Upgrade my Dell Studio 1735

The only board that'll fit is a 1737 board - nothing else will fit.  It uses the same Core 2 CPU your system does, so there's not much of an upgrade there - yes,  you can fit 1066 MHz bus CPUs to the 1737 vs. the 1735, but the Core 2 is not exactly cutting edge.   Neither is the video chip much of an upgrade.
You're better off leaving the system as is and putting whatever you'd spend on such a modest upgrade toward a newer system - this one's a dead end technology-wise.

My wife's Studio XPS 8100 Desktop (manufactured 01/04/2011) has been crashing, starting with a flickering screen.  The screen goes blank with a whitish-beige color and is unresponsive.  She turns it off and on, and it still stays asleep.  Holding the power/start button down for 30 seconds used to work for a while, but she no longer can recover her machine from a "deep sleep."  While booting, the computer makes a loud humming noise that is not present when it boots normally.  This was happening under Windows 7 Professional OS and has continued under Windows 10 OS.
Before, under Win 7 OS, the hard drive began to get slower and slower to the point I was afraid it was failing, and I replaced it along with updating drivers specified by Dell (see previous posts).  There was nothing available for the video card to update.
I read in the community forum that disabling (turning off) the monitor sleep state as well as the computer sleep state was a solution.  That seems to work as long as she never turns the machine off.  If the machine is turned off, as stated in the first paragraph, it takes more and more 30 second cycles to get it to boot normally.
Is there a solution for this problem?  What should I do next?

Thanks,
Creech Newsome

This one is pretty straight forward ... Memory Coruption ... to check your memory, download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 passes. If it reports any errors, you probably need to replace the modules...

Ive got a Dell Studio 1535 running Windows Vista.
I want to upgrade to Windows 7, used the Upgrade Advisor, no problem.
The only thing I need before I want to install Win 7 are the drivers.
HOWEVER Dell hasnt got any drivers suitable for my PC!
When I go to the download page, it only gives 2 options:
-> Windows Vista 32 bit
-> Windows Vista 64 bit
What am I to do?
I really want to upgrade, but if the drivers are missing, my PC wont work!
Do the vista drivers work for 7 as well???
Please help me!

A:Dell Studio 1535 Drivers!

In most cases, Vista drivers will work for Windows 7 as well. However, you might like to try a clean installation - the DVD contains many more drivers than the one for Vista, and you might not actually need any others.

Hi,

I am getting BSOD on my dell Studio 1558, I used to get this very frequently before upgrading graphics driver. After the upgrade the frequency reduced a lot. Yesterday it crashed again with BSOD, I followed instructions in post: http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...e-per-day.html and traced the problem to Rapport software. Uninstalled it.. and it was fine for some time. today, Again it crashed...

This time again i enabled verifier, and waited till it crashed. Attaching the dump with verifier on. Some help to analyze this is much appreciated.

Is Windows 7 . . .
- x64 ?
- re installed using DVD provided by dell
- an OEM version

- What is the age of system (hardware)? 171 days
- What is the age of OS installation : around 3 months

Also, a thing to note is laptop heats a lot in touch pad area and bottom. CPU temperatures are around 56-78 C.

Please help.

I recently found a Dell Studio 1558 running Windows 7 Home Premium in the trash, and it works fine. I would like to do a full system reset to restore the laptop to factory condition. How can this be done? I have already tried pressing F8 on the startup screen, but all it would do is stop the loading bar. Then I tried leaving it for a while, and after 20 minutes it had done nothing. Many retries later I am still where I started.

Just a note, the computer keeps telling me that I need to get "genuine Windows Software" and other similar messages.

Windows is not properly activated on this computer. You will need to get a retail copy of Windows 7 that can be properly activated, and do a clean Windows install. Go to Dell's support website to get the Windows 7 drivers. If you can see a Windows activation key sticker on the case, you might be able to use this site:

So yesterday I decided to reboot my laptop (it ususally stays on in and 'sleeps') - no particular reason, and no issues prior to rebooting.
The laptop would not re-boot.  The Dell logo would come up and it would stop loading at about 2/3 of the way.
I tried several times.
No beeps, no errors.  I was unable to boot using F8 or use F2 or F12 to enter other options.
I tried removing the battery, holding down the power button for 30 seconds, rebooting with battery only, rebooting with power cord only (battery removed), rebooting holding down the Fn key.  Nothing worked.
