Problems with solution to Print Master solution

Q: Problems with solution to Print Master solution

Greetings all. I got a new HP Pavilion with windows 7 upgraded to professional. Three of the programs I use had to be replaced since they would not work on Windows 7. My windows 7 seems to be missing a number of files such as xp mode and the solution to a problem with loading Print Master 2012 platinum requires some folders that also appear to be missing... to fix the java.lang.reflect.InovationTargetExemption error, the trouble shooters recommended going into the users folder, click on the administrators folder, into the appdata file and then the local settings folder. I go into the administrator folder and I can't find the appsdata folder at all. CCleaner states that a number of links and some files appear to be missing. I sent word to the software trouble shooters but I need this problem solved immediately to get out a newsletter that is already late.

A: Problems with solution to Print Master solution

appsdata is a hidden system folder. Instructions on how to enable seeing hidden files is HERE

All,

I'm currently giving computer lessons to a 90 year old person.
He is getting along rather well but now he would like to learn how to print.

Well most of will say, "that is simple". I agree, but it is not for somebody who is older, maybe the short term memory start to go a little bit.

So, the problem with printing is that every single bloody application does it slightly different (might be just the icon that is different), but becuase it is different you will end up trying to teach the person the way to print a document for each application he uses (outlook, adobe, word, excel, etc).

Well I can tell you that this person will not be able to remember what to do in which application..

So my thought was as follows...
Is there a tool that I can get/buy which will map the normal print document solution (not print screen) to a key on the keyboard (e.g. F12).

This way I only need to teach the person to use the F12 key if he wants to print a document, file, picture, etc....

So does anybody know of such a tool that can map standard windows functions to a key on the keyboard?

I think this is not just a solution for elderly but also for disabled people.

Help will be appreciated.

Raoul.

A:Simple Print solution for Elderly

Never mind found a cool tool that can do this.

http://www.autohotkey.com/

It is for free and you can create your own little scripts to do stuff.

I created this little script for the F12 function key.

F12::
Send ^p
Sleep 1000
Send {Enter}
return

This little script does the following when the F12 key is pressed

1) It press Ctrl + p (brings up the print dialog).
2) Sleep 1000 (Wait for 1 second to make sure the print dialog box is on the screen)
3) Press the Enter key (Click the OK button to print).

Really cool little tool.

CASE CLOSED.

Raoul.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate.
I have an HP Computer and an HP Photosmart 7280 printer that is connected by a wireless network. I used to use HP Support Center but recently when I try to it seems to try to open up, then rapidly closes saying "No HP devices have been detected. It will close now." I did a HiJackThis and would love to know what I have running that is not needed or is detrimental to my computer. But mostly I want HP Support Center to work again. I miss it!!! and I hate having to use another computer and then email myself documents that I should have been able to create initially.

I have tried to redownload it but could not locate a file called CCC. I saw, in a previous reply, to use CCC to remove the old copy. I use RevoUninstaller normally but didn't know what specific files to uninstall and I never uninstall anything that I have any question about.

I want to thank whoever responds in advance. I had help getting the HijackThis to my notepad but haven't figured out how to get back to my question and the reply so that I could say "Thank you" for that help.

Hi. I tried the solution in post 6 of this thread. It successfully removed the document stuck in my printer's queue. However, upon restarting Windows I get the following messages:

Window Title: Run DLL
Message: Error loading C:|Windows\system32\NvCpl.dll. Specified module not found

Window Title: .NET
Message: Runtime optimization service stopped working and was closed.

I tried to restore my old system, but apparently System Restore was turned off (aside: how the heck did that happen?).

Edit: I also looked for NvCpl.dll in my Recycle Bin, but it's not there.
Edit: I have an SSD, so cannot use a file recovery program.

Any advice on how to fix? Is my system broken or can I at least keep working until NvCpl is fixed?

TY.

It looks like that file is part of the nvidia drivers so please try to uninstall and reinstall your graphic drivers.

Im using a Del Optiplex with Windows 7/64 bit, 6GB of RAM and a 4th Gen i5.

About a month ago a tech-friend replaced my 500gb internal drive with one 256ssd for the OS and a 1TB optical drive for storage.

Ever since then (and it could just be coincidence), I keep getting low memory alerts. Its usually Firefox or Chrome that is the culprit but its been iTunes and even Evernote as well. I dont use anything very memory intensive and I rarely keep more than 3 browser tabs open.

Have any ideas what could be the problem here?

I just ordered another 2gbs of ram from Crucial...

A:Possible solution(s) to my RAM problems?

Have you run Memtest 86?

Have you monitored actual RAM usage at any given moment in Task Manager? How much does it say is installed and in use?

If you truly "don't use anything very memory intensive", the new 2 GB of RAM is a waste of money, particularly if you don't know if you've been using all of the current 6.

Hello All,

First of thanks to all those folks who provide your time, help and service. I was facing a problem where all of my search results would end up generating weird pop ups with no link to what I searched for. I want to describe the steps I took before and after coming to this web site so that others can benefit from my experience.

First some software specs: Windows XP with SP2. I use McAfee Security, SpyBot, Adaware, Malwarebytes Anti Malware, and Bill Patrol. I got this rootkit infection despite these set of tools. McAfee is on at all times. I use realtime protection from Malwarebytes when launching IE or Firefox. Once a week I ran Adaware, Spybot.

Things began to gohaywire this morning when I was searching for an academic paper relevant to my work when I noticed the search results when I clicked would go to non sense sites. Here are the steps.

Before coming to this website:
1. Disconnected from Internet.
2. Ran Quick Scan with MBAM, found a trojan and quarantined it. Then ran Spybot. No matches. Ran McAfee Security Quick Scan - Found 2 infected objects and removed them. Ran a full scan. Nothing more. Reboot.
3. Saw a "Unhandled Exception" error with ASMagent.exe - first ever I saw something like that. Ignored it and launched IE with MBAM IP and realtime protection enabled. Same errors again.

After registering here:
1. Read all the different solutions suggested the good folks here.
2. Downloaded Super Anti Spyware; GMER, ERUNT, RKUnhookerLE, TDSSKill... Read more

A:A possible solution to the Rootkit problems

Hello shatrunj and to BleepingComputer.First, let me say that I am glad you resolved your issues. Secondly, though you were successful, for both your future benefit and the benefit of others who may read this thread please take note of the following:Regarding RKUnhookerLE and GMER:Rootkit scans often produce false positives, and often don't have conclusive results at all. It requires a trained eye to be able to read and interpret ARK logs accurately and determine the safest way to remove any malware present. It is not advised that users attempt to take action on their own.Regarding TDSSKiller:Due to the constantly changing nature of the TDSS/TDL*/Alureon rootkit, the unsupervised use of TDSSKiller carries some inherent risk. On more than one occasion TDSSKiller has incorrectly removed an infection when dealing with a new variant of the malware. Because of how the infection operates, the most common effect of an incorrect removal is a computer that will no longer boot properly. Due to this inherent risk it is not advised that users attempt to use TDSSKiller without expert guidance so that, if something does go wrong, the helper will be able to quickly diagnose the problem and provide assistance in restoring the computer to a functional state. Please feel free to let me know if you've any questions.~Blade

I have a lenovo laptop for the past two months. I am running windows 7 32 bit. A month ago I attempted to run a Malwarebyte scan and he computer froze and it has been a nightmare since. Some of the symptoms are: IE8 and Chrome will not load or work at all. Firefox will work but it freezes many times a day. I cannot uninstall any programs and when I try to install a program I get this message "windows installer service cannot be accessed." I have Spybot but it will not update. I am running AVG 9.0 and the scan is clean. I can update with Malwarebytes but I do not find any problems. I did a system restore with no success. I have no idea what to do please help.

A:A myriad of problems, is there a solution

Do you have any restore points available prior to the problem that you could resort to? Or, do you have the ability to restore the system back to the factory image (just be sure to backup any data that you might have saved).

Hello everyone, i came here after google led me here, while searching for my problem. I'll try yo describe it as simple as possible. I literally tried EVERYTHING, to solve my network problems on my desktop pc, but nothing helped or even improved the current situation. All of my devices connect to internet via Wi-Fi, but only my desktop pc seems to be having network issues, like: Slow Speed, unable to see or connect to my modem, connection constantly drops, for no reason and then returns. But this isn't limited to wireless connection, even if i plug it with an ethernet cable, and put the pc near the modem (30cm or less), it will still have the same issues.

This is what i tried:
-I reinstalled Windows untill i lost count.
-Replaced hard drives, bought a SSD, new hdd.
-Bios Flash
-Replaced wireless adapters (tried with USB adapters, PCI-E adapters)
-Replaced 4 different modems

I even tried Linux and i get the same results. Desktop pc is the only one having this problem, the rest of my devices get full speed (Smartphone, tablet, laptop, etc), also tried getting everyone out of the network, leaving only the desktop pc, didn't work at all. I posted in several other places but got no solution, anyone here knows what could be the problem? Or do i get rid of this pc?

Thank you.

A:Network Problems with NO Solution at all.

Sounds like a bad driver or bad Wifi adapter. Get a USB Wifi Dongle and see if that changes anything.

the 6600gt agp. the worlds most difficult card to find a decent cooler for. but there is a solution: a cpu heatsink. just drill 2 3mm holes in the bottom of a heatsink (after marking the distance/position of the holes) and use the plastic pins/clips to hold the new heatsink on to the card. simple. as a plus, if the heatsink is big enough, and you have an exhaust fan in the area, you dont need to put a fan on it. here is mine:
here is the exhaust fan and the 'wall' in my case:

and here is the heatsink itself:

Hi i am a 15 year old student and I have owned a Toshiba Satellite laptop for just under 2 years. It has been perfect, a bit slow but I can live with that. There are just two problems. One minor, and one...a bit bigger.

1. Whenever I open iTunes my whole computer freezes. The mouse moves, but clicking on anything is unresponsive. The only way I can turn the thing off to reboot is by holding down the power button. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes several times but to no avail. I have no mysterious plug-ins or downloads that could be causing this.

and 2. My computer starts generally freezing. The only forewarning of this is a whirring noise coming from inside the laptop. Then a pause, then another whirr. Sometimes the whole thing freezes like above, but it can shut down by itself, or hit a blue screen before doing so. A couple of times I have been quick enough to write down what is on the blue screen. Something along the lines of PFN_list_corrupt. I'm sure that will mean something to most of you, just not me
After i reboot the laptop it comes to a black screen which says: One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency.

If anyone can help me with this it would be much appreciated. i have no knowledge of the "spec" of my laptop, so if you would like me to find that out, please let me know how to!

Thanks,
Will

A:2 Problems - Surely there is a simple solution?

Can give exact model number of your Toshiba Satelite notebook?

Secondly, can you please look into C:\windows\minidump folder and attach minidump files from it here with your next post for analysis?

Lastly, if it is the error you are describing above, you may have issues with RAM. Regards

Basically Ive been getting a ton of WinAntiVirus Pro popups along with a lot of other stuff. Sometimes there is no popup, but just someone talking in the background as if its a commercial with no images. The ads usually come up when I use Internet Explorer, and only sometimes with Firefox. So Im using Firefox these days.

Ive tried the following programs (and bear in mind I cant boot into safe mode for some reason, so Ive done all this while internet is disabled) with no solution:

Adaware (its update has been disabled)
Spybot (its update has been disabled)
SVG
CounterSpy
VundoFix (sometimes its disabled by the Trojan)
Hijack this (behaves oddly now; used to not boot up)
Zone Alert
Norton 360 (it really sucked, so I returned the product)

Heres the HijackThis log (not the Trend Micro version) but Im not sure how legit these results are:

PC - Toshiba with Atheros AR9002WB chipset.

Symptom - After upgrading to Win 10 Pro from Win 7 Pro, my wifi connection started to periodically drop... that is, more specifically, I was unable to access any internet communications. This would happen most often overnight, but occasionally after several hours of use in the daytime.

Disabling and enabling the wifi adapter did no good... I had to completely reboot in order to restore access. Upgrading to a different/newer driver made no difference.

And then, last night, when it failed again, I found out that while I could not access the internet, I could readily access the router via its IP address typed into a browser bar.

How weird is that? It demonstrates that the wifi connection to the router is definitely present and functional.

So... back to the Win 10 PC... I check out the properties of the TCP IPv4 connection... the RadioBox "Obtain the DNS Server Address Automatically".

I unchecked this box and manually entered the IP address of my router which I have set up for external DNS lookup. As soon as I saved the changes, my internet access was restored... no reboot... no nuthin'!

I conclude there is an issue with automatically obtaining a DNS server IP address although I have no idea of how to verify, except perhaps go back to auto DNS, then the next time it fails, see what ipconfig has to say.

Cheers.

In 2001 I purchased a Compact Presario with Windows XP Home Edition. I have slow dialup with MSN 9 as my browser and provider.

Over the last few months, my PC has developed the following problems. They seem to have gotten worse when I was forced to upgrade from MSN 6 to MSN 9 last August.

1. About 70% of the time after signing in, I get a dialogue box that reads " Microsoft has encountered a problem and needs to close." I eventually log on after an attempt or two.
2. Pages sometimes freeze for up to 15-20 minutes before a new page finally opens up.
3. About once a week, I get the smaller bubble that reads that I am running low on virtual memory.
4. Pages do not usually close when clicking on the "X" in the left corner.

I recently signed into www.double my speed.com for a scan. The scan detected 837 errors of various sorts.
I spent nearly three hours speaking to one of their techs from India who took over my computer ostensibly to diagnose the problem. He eventually determined that the $40 annual "fix it" option would not work because I have " very, very bad things" on my computer that needed my immediate attention. He showed me the page with all my errors, and took me to google which explains them. He said I was a victim of hacking. He took me to a page where I was going to get immediate help.
Of course, all this help was going to cost $250 for the package. I hung up and disconnected.

I was getting a lot of glitches, hanging programs and needing to force a power down, so I decided to refresh (possibly the second-worst decision I've made recently), which took me back from W8.1 to W8.

This went okay, and I went to the store to update to W8.1 again, and found I had to install all the updates for W8 first, so went to do this. There were 118 updates, plus one optional. I downloaded the 118 and clicked to install them (having read another thread I now realize that trying to install so many updates at once is not a good idea, but hindsight is a wonderful thing).

At first I got into a loop where it appeared to be configuring updates, then said it had failed to configure them and wad reverting, then restarted, then appeared to be configuring etc.

After about 4 hours the loop finally worked through and I switched off and left everything else until the following day, at which point I found that only about 10 updates had successfully installed, so I again checked for updates and selected to install just 10 (from the bottom of the list). Installing these 10 automatically triggered more to reinstall and I was left with just 16 to deal with in a final install (rebooting in between each batch).

I then went to uninstall some unwanted programs including McAfee (I had already installed my preferred malware program) and after this had to restart, when I got stuck on the 'restarting' screen for at least a half hour. In the end I opted to power down the machine.

A:Lots of Problems after Refresh - what is the best solution

Sounds like you've been through the wringer. I would backup what files you don't want to lose and do a recovery. Would probably wipe the drive first also. Maybe others will have a different opinion.

Installing all the updates can be a pain. Often have to do in blocks of 5 or so and see what takes then move on to next 5 then go back and do the ones that wouldn't take at first. Not fun for sure.

Once you get things running the way you want take a look at the Custom Refresh tutorial.

Hey Guys,

What's up? Great news! If you have an old HP Laserjet printer that drives you crazy because it feeds multiple pages from the paper input try (especially when the bin gets low) HP has a solution and it's FREE! It's called a paper seperator and it works with several older Series T and Series L HP Laserjet printers. The seperation pad is a one-time install device that gives your printer a NEW seperation pad! (Muti-paper feeds, resulting in paper jams are often caused by hardening of the old seperator pad) I just installed it and it works great! My friend had an old HP that was doing the same thing, didn't know about the seperator pad, and spent about $80 to get his printer fixed. Since that time, he has ordered and installed the seperator pad on two seperate HP printers that were about 4-5 years old that originally had the multi-feed problem. Since then, he has not had ONE muti-feed problem!

It is very impressive that HP would offer something like this for free, regardless of how old your printer is. I ordered from HP's web-site and it said it would take about 2 weeks to get here and it came in 2 days! If you guys want more information about the seperattion pad, or to order the seperation pad for your HP Laser Jet, you can go to this link for information/ordering instructions:

If that doesn't work, just go to HP's web site

A:Solution for HP Printer Mulitipage Problems!

I hope your link does help people get more life out of their printers, but I dont think we should be 'impressed' that HP is offering this fix for free. The paper feed problems on these printers (and the 5Ls) have been known for years, and HP has made it impossible for anyone but printer repair shops to get the cheap parts needed to make repairs. Most buyers of these printers have already moved on, having spend good money on a printer that could not do the most basic of printer functions without problems. Nice gesture, but a bit late for many people

This is a solution to problems getting a local version of Quickbooks Pro to use data files that are on the Files Anywhere remote fileserver service (FilesAnywhere.com). For all I know it may work with other remote fileserver services as well.

The problem:
Quickbooks Pro simply will not load the Quickbooks file on the server, even though you have got the WebDAV folder mappings right and you can see the remote Quickbooks files. Often it will just sit there for a while and then come back with an error message. This is odd because other programs like Word have no problem seeing and editing files on the same remote server using the same WebDAV folder.

The cure :
1. On your local computer, make sure you have a multi-license version of Quickbooks if you are planning to share the files among several users (for example, you and your book-keeper) and that you have the multi-user feature enabled and the extra users/s set up.
2. Now shift the Quickbooks data file directories from your local computer to that remote fileserver, in this case Files Anywhere, and get the WebDAV link working.
3. Now get into Windows Firewall and explicitly add any and all "Quickbooks" executables to the list of exceptions. If you have any other firewalls running, they can be a problem too, so turn them off for now.
4. Now start Quickbooks, open the file on Files Anywhere, and away you go.

If you skip any of the above steps it won't work.

Happy accounting!

This all started about 2 months ago. After a driver update to my Nvidia video card. I started getting system hangs which started triggering Win7's TDR and reseting my video drivers. At first it was only in one game and I suspected it was a game update, but I recently got The Sims Medieval and it started happening in that game almost right away. After that I susspected it had something to do with the .NET 4 framework that The Sims installed as part of it's install but then realized that dident make any sense. I also found that my OS HDD had a huge ammount of reallocated sectors but they all came at one time. I was watching it for awhile and the count never seemed to get higher so I assumed it was some kind of one time event. Then I started thinking, ok what can cause errors in several different parts of a system seemingly at random? My RAM. Ok so I went online and looked for something that would check my RAM. Windows Memory diagnostic is fairly useless, all it told me is that there are hardware errors. Wow, gee, THANKS Windows for telling me that, too bad you couldent tell me A BIT MORE. In any case I started running a free program I found called Memtest86+. It seems to be a VERY exhaustive test. After running for 1 1/2 passes it had found 17 total errors spread across 3 different DIMM's from what I can tell. So here is where I need a little help. I know the traditional method of checking ram is to run one stick at a time, one slot at a time, to see if any individual... Read more

Regarding memtest. It is the gold standard and will give you the info you seek as to errors and addresses but does need to be run one stick and one slkot for the highest degree of accuracy.

It does take a long time. One other thing memtest tests the ram and mobo outside the windows environment so if it is software related it wont tell you anything

Run the test and if it reurnss any errors you can be fairly sure there is a problem. If the ram and mobo return clean

Run driver verifier from within windows to find out which driver is causing the grief

Accupoint problems appear to be prevalent across many Toshiba laptops. Remember that occasionally the pointer will recalibrate itself, this should take approx 10-20 seconds - do not try and use the pointer during this period - it should stabilise after this period. However if the problem becomes frequent or recalibration is taking a long time, the general consensus is to:-

a) Clean dust / debris from around the pointer using a compressed air can. This does work in most cases.

b) Continued drift / erratic behaviour - reinstall drivers / replace the keyboard.

Note: Use of an external mouse will not, in most cases, prevent the drift problem.

If your laptop is out of warranty and / or you do not want to replace the keyboard / have the laptop repaired, you can permantley disable the Accupoint device. This will mean that you will always have to use an external mouse - connected to the mouse or USB port.

If you are reasonably competent proceed as follows:-

Remove the keyboard - disconnect the external power supply and battery/s first.

a) There is a small black plastic strip located immediately above the function keys, remove, using the two small recesses - it should snap out easily.

b) Locate the two small black screws that secure the keyboard to the chassis and remove.

c) Gently lift the keyboard away from the chassis by lifting the keyboard from the top.

d) The keyboard is connected to the laptop via a ribbon cable which is secured to the connector by... Read more

I've had these BSOD problems for several months now and I tried several ways to locate and fix the problem driver or drivers but nothing works. I submitted my BSOD Minidmp files, passed the memtest, used the verifier but it doesn't produce any results as of yet; the strange thing is however since I activated the verifier to verify non-Microsoft drivers and now all drivers, I haven't had any BSOD crashes since my last one on Dec 5, 2015. The BSOD always occurred when I put my PC into Sleep mode and came back hours later to wake my PC and the blue screen pops up for several minutes until my system restarted itself but If I waited a short length of time to wake my PC like 10 minutes or so, it would fine.

Ever since this BSOD problem started, I notice my PC is slowing down, everything I click on in Windows has a delayed response and the internet gives me problems as well. Webpages take longer to load, everything I click on takes longer to load. My Windows 7 Pro Action Center, under "View Reliability History" reports that I have errors from iexplore.exe 'not responding' which happens a lot. The worst part is when I have to reboot my computer or boot it up for the first time; I have to wait a good two minutes or more for all the icons to load up and a bit longer for the internet to connect and once that's done, loading the home page takes a lot longer... often I have too refresh the page or it stops responding forcing me to close the browse... Hi,
I hope you can help me as I have nearly gone crazy after buying a HP Photosmart C5280 All-in-One printer scanner copier. Everything is set up fine and it prints great. However I am having enormous problems with the software. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and rebooted and rebooted more times than I have had hot dinners.
My initial problem was that the HP Solution Center (which is where you access the scanner settings ets) just wouldn't open. A timer would come on for a few seconds and then no life at all.
And the HP Photosmart essential 2.5 programme sometimes worked but more often than not froze on me and refused to activate the import button when I was trying to import photos.
In my last attempt, I uninstalled then I temporarily suspended all my anti-virus programmes etc and installed and then turned my anti-virus back on. That was kind of successful in that I can now open up my HP Solution Center. However every now and then I still cant operate the "transfer" button for transferring photos. AND most annoyingly it is still hit and miss if the HP Photosmart Essential will work or not. That is, it still freezes and more often than not won't open the 'import photos' window.

I use Windows XP by the way.

Please can you help me. I thought it should all work perfectly at the the touch of a button??

I'm really sorry - I really try to do safe surfing on the web and follow all your instructions.

This morning when doing my daily full scan with malewarebytes it found backdoor.bot - 2 files. It has them quarantined.

Also, I keep getting solutions center popups that can't be resolved.

I posted to general computer security. Did my full scans with Malewarebytes again and Norton, scanned with spybot and ESET and Norman Malware Cleaner and they're not finding anything.

However, starting today this solution center thing keeps popping up and can't be resolved - see attachments. I don't even know what solution center is but I can't boot up without the messages or try to get into my files without them. They just continue to pop-up.

Also, I don't know if I can delete the malwarebytes quarantine.

There have been alot of people having problems with Nic cards under Win 7. It seems to be mostly the onboard nics.. Here is what happened to me:

Installed Win 7 on an AMD based sys. Biostar A770 A2+ MB. Everything worked. Ran udates and one was a new driver for the realtek Nic.. (At one time the onboard Nics and Sound were not 100% hardware.. They stole CPU cycles to emulate some of the functions on the NICS.) When it rebooted the nic did not work. I rolled back the driver.. it worked..

At somepoint the next day it stopped working when I started it up.. I hadnt installed much since it worked.. Runnning Diag.. it said no driver detected. I installed a d/l driver-Same thing.. This went on for a while.. When I tried to install driver it said couldnt find nic, if it is in deep sleep mode unnplug cable.. This made no difference.. I did manage to get it working once or twice in the next few days.. but it always went away if the comp went into sleep or I turned it off.

I have been doing this stuff for a while.. At some point I dredged up a problem Id had before when I booted a computer with a MP3 player plugged into the usb port.. I keep thinking about it and I remembered the one other piece of hardware I had added after installing Win 7 was a Logitech usb headset.. So I did two things.. I installed a intel nic in a pci slot, and I unplugged the headset. And wouldnt you know it.. I now had 2 network conections.. the realtek and the Intel.. I plugged in the headset b... Read more

A:Win 7 Network Problems. ALL Nics onboard-My Solution

There are quite few drivers with that problem being reported, once the NIC driver goes into sleep or hibernation mode the driver dies and won't come back. So far the only way to fix this is to use a different driver or disable the sleep and hibernate settings for the NIC under power settings.

The logitech driver problems I have seen myself but it was with my G15 keyboard drivers causing a different problem. Once I installed the keyboard drivers I couldn't get a movie to start normally using WMP. I found a work around that involved playing with the WMP play button control settings but the logitech keyboard driver was definately the cause. I wonder how some of these drivers get past WHQL testing.

I recently had a set of very strange wireless problems on my Lenovo T42, which runs Windows XP Pro SP3

I was also able to restore wireless connectivity in the end. Details below.

Meanwhile, I share my experiences here in case the information may be of use to others.

THE PROBLEMS

I bought this T42 in 2006 from newegg.com, with the OEM version of XP Pro installed. I configured it under the nonadmin model, with Kaspersky Internet Security installed, and it has been really an excellent machine, rock-solid dependable.

The only exception to this has been some occasional difficulty with the wireless setup, which began after I installed T-Mobile Connection Manager in late 2007. TMCM wanted to talk to its own PCMCIA network device (also used for connecting via GSM) and bypass the internal one. All well and good, and that worked fine for a year or more.

During 2008, I was prompted by TMCM to install an update, for which I clicked the OK button. Big mistake. TMCM never again worked on my home WPA network, and it took some doing to get the internal wireless working again. (T-Mobile tech support was exactly ZERO help in fixing this.)

I finally got it working after a) uninstalling TMCM, which itself required several reboots since the uninstaller kept hanging, then complaining it couldn't uninstall because there was still an instance running), and b) reinstalling the Intel wireless driver for that laptop, which also took a few tries, since the installer kept hanging.

After th... Read more

I have win xp home

After using Window Washer I could not boot and got a message 'Ntldr is missing'. Found a work around with a win xp emergency boot floppy disc which allowed me to boot into windows. I copied the ntldr file from the windows start up disc via recvovery console and managed to get boot into windows again.

I used windows washer again but now the problem is different, but appears to be a variant on the 'Ntldr is missing ' problem. I don't get a ntldr is missing message. Instead I'm told 'Windows could not start because of a computer disc hardware problem. Could not read from selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware:'

I've done the following with recovery console
1. Copied the ntldr file onto C root-at least the ntlldr is present and correct
2. Fixmbr

In addition , using msconfg it APPEARS the boot.ini file is okay.

However, when I went back into recovery console and typed bootcfg/default I was told:
'There are currently no boot entries therefore the default boot entry cannot be set . You must first use /add rebuild to adda a windows installation to the boot list.'

I was inclined to follow the instruction but seeing as i did not know what it meant I though it wise not to.
Am I right to assume my failure to boot has something to do with there being no boot entries (whatever that means)?
Should I go ahead and add or rebuild bootcfg?

Thanx for your help.

I noticed several people complaining here and over the internet about the active desktop on XP when IE 7 gets installed, so I decided to research it and quickly came with a very simple solution. If you liked this please pine it, so everyone can see ;)

After installing IE 7 on a Windows XP machine, you will notice some small issues on the OS because IE 7 was designed specially to Windows Vista and above. One of these issues is the Active Desktop incompatibility. This happens because Active Desktop was replaced by the 'Gadgets' feature on Windows Vista, becoming obsolete since IE 7.

Sometimes the desktop wallpaper experiences some problem and Windows automatically display the safemode.htt page, that has a button called restore active desktop (or something like that). If you click the button a script error happens (object doesnt support the action) and the wallpaper remain in that page. This happens because the Activex Control responsible for this method being called by the page when the button is clicked has been updated and no longer works properly. I am talking about the Shell.UIHelper Activex. But, fortunately there is a very simple and easy solution for this. All you have to do is edit a registry value :

At :

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{64AB4BB7-111E-11d1-8F79-00C04FC2FBE1}\InProcServer32

edit the default string value data (value without a name) from C:\windows\system32\ieframe.dll to c:\windows\ie7\shdocvw.dll

Make sure the path is valid and the shdocvw.dll... Read more

Kill explorer.exe

Here is the solution:
Go to the properties of the WIFI, "Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections", Right click on the WI-FI adapter, Properties,  Configure,  advanced, Power output. Change it from 100% to 75%. If you wish to use external monitor attached to the docking station, you will have to change it to 50%. The only problem now with the 50% is that the WIFI will no longer switch off automatically. Closing the lid also affects this, so you may have to play with this setting.

Hello everyone, I'm new to these forums but I have a multitude of questions I hope can be addressed, as I am also eager to learn exactly what is wrong and how exactly to go about fixing these problems -

There are three main pieces of equipment in question for these thread -
D-LINK DIR-615 (Wireless N Router)
ASUS WL-520GU (Wireless Print Server Router)
TEW 643PI (Wireless Adapter Card)

So, the first problem I had was that I was losing connection from my router on my computer at regular intervals, say around every 10-20 minutes. The router is currently connected wired to one computer, which is in the room with the router, while the my computer, is connected to the router via my wireless card, which is not too far away in a separate room, say less than 50 feet.

I checked the log in the firmware which indicates that my computer is disconnecting with the wireless router error 8. I have no idea what that means, nor could I find online what that meant. I will have the exact text of that message when I return home.

The funny thing about this problem is that I thought the router's wireless was unstable and just dropping connection every once in a while. So, I purchased the WL-520GU and tried to connect it to my DSL modem, via PPPoE. However, using the original firmware, it gave me an odd error, saying that my IP of my router (the 520GU) wasn't assigned to the correct IP address, though the IP assigned in the firmware matched what I used to type into my browser to ... Okay, I heard that a lot of people are having problems with no display after Windows loads. Well, I took my PC into the shop today only to find that it has no problems at all. My computer's condition:

Display available at system startup, no display after loading windows normally.
Display available in safe mode and not available even in 640 x 480 resolution.
Display available with onboard graphics card and VGA mode on normal card and on HDTV.

So, the problem seems to be my monitor. The monitors in the shops work with my PC with both DVI and VGA mode. If your problem is like this, check if your plug and play device is working properly and if it isn't, there you go. If you use a CRT and VGA mode doesn't work, the problem isn't the graphics card - it's the monitor itself. Either the graphics card can't detect the monitor with the drivers installed or the monitor has an internal problem.

This other board that probably transfers information or something.

On most LCDs, the mainboard is near the bottom of the back of the display while the other board is on the edge of it.

Guys, I have two ethernet cables, one connected to the router and one to the computer with only a modem. When I connect the router's ethernet, I get wireless all over except the computer I have the Ethernet cable connected to the computer. When I want to use one, I have to switch.

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...uctId=2268439#

If I were to buy that, that will benefit me having double ethernet slots. So I won't have to continue on switching. That's my simple solution or am I wrong?

also, I don't want to buy another router nor the ethernet hub since already have the router but that's the only situation I'm having. The Switching part. so that will cable work?

ok this is using your spare usb thumb drive as pc ram.
get an extra one and plug it in. know what drive it is.press and hold start button and press pause break. press the advanced tab setting under performance, advanced again and on virtual memory press change. change to the recommended and use your full memory on the USB THUMB DRIVE for and press set then ok. if you added enough you should have a faster pc

there is a long distance between headquarters and warehouse,
five PCs in warehouse need connect to headquarters,So we apply ADSL to access internet and use VPN to access intranet of headquarters, now we hit a wall, just only PC can use VPN to access intranet of headquarters.it means when one PC is accessing intranet of headquarters by using VPN, another can not.if another use vpn, the one using VPN would be broken off.but we need all PCs can access intranet of headquarters at the same time.
is there a solution for it?
thanks.

A:VPN solution!

If you are using a workstation OS then that is the limitation.
If you have server OS, then you don't have that limit.

An other solution is to use a VPN router. They don't cost that much more than a regular one.

I would like to know if there is anything on the market that can remove any and all infections?

I would pay good money for an all in one solution that could handle day zero's, adware, malware, spyware, trojans, viruses, worms, ransomware, and etc...

Are we forever doomed to have multiple security systems?

Why can't we combine the definitions of adware cleaner, superantispyware, malwarebytes, hitman, roguekiller....etc!

It's so tedious cleaning an infected computer. Even if you remove the drive and place it in a dock, externally. Some infections only live in RAM it seems and even safemode scans cant get them because they are file-less.

A:Is there a solution, an all in one?

Their no magic cure all for this kind of stuff.

their no magic wizard company that will clean everything and fix everything in one shot.

If their was one, then this and other tech site/forums wouldn't exist and people in the IT industry would be pretty much be out of business for most of them that deals with this from day to day.

One part of the problem can be trace back to human ignorance or human error such. Other people find vulnerabilities within these errors that were overlooked and use them against others.

It how to world works in some ways.

it why their multiple AV programs and developers, multiple malware programs and developers, etc.Their no "king" out their that rules all.

It one big cash flow process. Someone out their making money, whether it the crime fighters or the criminals off of the innocent. It a giant industry.

You might be wanting to pay good money, so would I and many others to make these kind of nightmares go away and not worry about them from day to day but in the end, it will never be real since people out their can make money from the chaos it causes.

Network topology is 1 main domain and many workgroups in other physical locations. The workgroups have no knowledge of the domain and are running windows 95, 98, 2000 and XP. Domain is mainly running XP.

The problem is the workgroup PC's are getting a TON of ads, popups, and whatnot from standard web browsing. Our current solution is to have them bring it in I scan the machine with Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Hijack this and then I send them on their way.

I want to know of an enterprise wide solution that I can update definitions to each machine, have it scan on a certain day, if it finds something that it nees to rescan on bootup it will set itself to rescan on next bootup and is as good as the 2 aformentioned products.

A:wants solution

You would need different subnets for each site if you are using a layer 3 VPN connection which is pretty much what is used all the time. If you use the same subnet at two or more sites, you'll run into routing issues and traffic will not traverse over the VPN tunnel between sites even if the VPN tunnel is configured correctly. The alternative is to use NAT to mask the subnets being the same.

Alternatively, you can use a layer 2 MPLS VPN. But this requires routers capable of MPLS support and specific support at the provider level. Also, VPNs with MPLS are not the same as VPNs in the common sense. The traffic sent over a VPN with MPLS is NOT encrypted. It is tagged at the layer 2 frame creating a virtual circuit very similar to how VLANs work.

There is usually a bios setting on your servers (and workstations) to set the state after a power failure. It's dependent on your particular bios, but I don't think that I've ever seen one that doesn't have this option. Your options are usually On, Off, or Last State.

I was up till 4:00 AM last night trying to solve the same problem that most posters seem to have.

Lost Control Panel...No administrator rights...winavxx....popups about someone downloading my computer...can't find printer.exe....... etc.

I tried most of the solutions I read here as well. Smitfraud, superantispyware, hijackthis etc.

At one point, I couldn't even restart my computer (Toshiba Qosmio G25). It would not turn off. Closed the lid, waited and opened to the same location I was at before. Turned off with the power switch...back to same point.

Ultimately, I was left with the situation where the computer only booted in safe mode. I selected every option of boot, but it always booted in safe mode.

I never found a thread with a happy ending.

I ended up transferring whatever I could to an external harddrive and wiped everything out with System Recovery disks. Back to square 1.

Now I fear transferring files off the external drive back to my laptop!

Hope someone else has better luck than I did.

I am running windows xp home and have noticed my system running a lot slower the past few weeks.

I get messages that the virtual memory is dangerously low.

A system that used to start up silently and in seconds now clicks like a time bomb and takes minutes to start.

On Sunday, 8-8-04, I could log onto the net(dsl).
I called my provider and spoke with tech support.

Gave them the rundown on what has been happening.
1- start up slow- go to msconfig and disable alldonestill have 3 that keep coming back as enabled tho: Eqtz6w9, wkufind and spydoctor
2- told them I have been having 53+processes running on the system- they told me I was hijacked or there was a parasite in the system
3- couldnt log on- notice that when I tried to launch internet explorer instead of looking for my default page it was looking for something totally different(origin.ad something like that). They helped me fix that

I was asked if I ran spyware detectors. I have been running spybot but about 2 weeks ago I downloaded a program I thought was MS related and recommended called spyware stormereven paid for it. They told me to get the latest download of spybot and not to trust the spywarestormer. It is not a very good program and I never should have been charged for it. It is not a Microsoft product nor recommended by them. Seems strange that ALL my problems started when I downloaded stormer. They feel it may have opened some doors for parasites.

OK so I get back onlineupdate spybotdelete storm... Read more

I'd like to put it on a 250gb hard drive.

1. I can put the 250gb hard drive in and use the CD to restore the drive, from the usb hard drive. Can that work? (250gb drive isn't in the pc now, but I can drop it in). Will BIOS be OK for that?

2. Different pc, with 250gb hard drive, running Windows XP. With it, I could do a partition, and load the usb hard drive full image in that way. Basically, that would give me C: and X: drive, as part of C: I would have two windows on one 250gb hard drive.

5. go to bed and your book will be recorded (not converted) by morning in MP3 format.

- run a few test first and make sure your sound bar is set low enough that it doesn't blare.
- I have found that a 64 bit setting is a good balance between size and quality. Anything below will not sound very good. These setting gave me about 9.5 hours of audio at about 265 MB

I don't know if it legal nor do I care. It should be like back in the old days when we had those double tape decks that would record one cassettes while you listened to the other one.

Any comments are welcom

Four days ago, I reinstalled a lucent modem. I went through the whole reboot nonsense, however, four days later, my computer has yet to come back up. Now what it does after hitting(not literally) the power button is this:
Startup beep occurs, however, it's longer now, cuts in the middle, then beeps again (beeee -- beep)
normal hard drive noises go on, same as during a normal startup
computer reboots itself
same startup beep as before
same normal hard drive noises
computer shuts itself off

And to round things out nicely, no display ever occurs on the monitor. Nothing. The monitor seems fine, no obvious problems, and there's never been any problem with it before. Is it possible that the machine is picking up something with the monitor that I'm missing? I'm really hoping to find a solution that doesn't involve lugging it to the local repair shop and spending a few hundred bucks right before Xmas.

Win98SE
Amd Athlon K7 500mhz
Nvidia Geforce Mx 440
256mb ram

Anyone have any ideas, or even better, solutions? First step would be to test the monitor, which I'll do, but gut feeling says it's something else. Thanks for any help you can offer!

Hi there Tnight (28th of febuary 2010) my dad found out his pc had a major virus on it and asked me to help try and fix it, i imediatly got onto my own pc and started to scower the internet for a solution and low and behold this forum popped up, i was relived that there was a soultion as myfather was at his wits end with what to do. i followed the steps involved in http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/lof...hp/t275495.html and once i put it onto my dads pc the virus stated that the mbam program could not be opened as it was infected, i have since lost hope in my dads pc and have reccomended that he buy a new one, however he refuses to o that, please anyone who can help it would be greatly appreciated and i would love any kind of help atall.Very kind regards Jamie

A:Same Problem Different solution please

you could try this Did you download the setup file from the infected computer? If you did, download the file onto a usb drive from a different computer, then transfer it to the infected one and see if you can get it to run.If you tried that, I think you have to try renaming the setup file, to fool the malware into thinking it isn't MBAM.also i read this off another forum * Click on Start, click Run, and then type devmgmt.msc and click OK * On the View menu click on Show hidden devices * Browse to Non-Plug and Play Drivers and you should see something like TDSSserv.sys * Highlight that driver and right click on it and select DISABLE * Now RESTART your computer. * Download a copy of Malwarebytes but DO NOT run it yet. * Rename the downloaded installer file to any generic name such as your own name but keep the .EXE extension on the file and run it. * Once the program is installed go to the UPDATE tab and try to update the program if you can. * Then go to the SCANNER tab and run a Quick Scan and allow MBAM to fix anything found.hope this helps

Hi gurus,

I think this can be done (I'm using Access 97 and Excel 97), but looking for advice or instructions on how to set it up.

I want to execute a query in Excel and have some of the cells' values mapped to fields in an Access database to perform an automated report. Basically, the only manual intervention I want is selecting which query to run in Excel.

Or maybe I have it wrong. Maybe I should perform the query in Access and have fields mapped to cells in a pre-formatted spreadsheet.

Whichever is easier. I have a list of 200 queries set up, and each one needs to be outputted in a report format. Any ideas, suggestions or comments?

Thanks,
Richard

A:automated solution?

Just keep the whole thing in Access and run the queries from a form.

Hello all,

I've just bought a 1080p monitor, and movies just don't look as nice as they could...

So i'm going Blu-Ray, are there external drives? (I don't need a writer)

I do have a desktop, but I have a laptop as well. So i want to use the Blu-Ray on both!

Both PC's are HDCP enabled, (graphics cards, and ports).

Regards,

Alex.

A:External Blu-Ray solution?

Blue-Ray will not help your monitor a bit, in my opinion. You need to deal with the graphics card and your memory first.
There are external Blu-Ray drives, though they are still very expensive compared to internal ones...
Though "...just don't look as nice as they could..." is in the mind of the beholder, I doubt Blu-Ray will help until everything already "looks nice."

Hi,

In March my laptop was infected with Cryptolocker. Whilst it was easy to get rid of, the damage was immense. I read up about all the ransomware issues, abandoned it and I switched to my other laptop.

Anyway, I found a registry entry that listed all the files it 'locked' - 17240 in total! - at this location.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\B6DEF8395259905CF62BA61CD1B60E39
\PROTECTED

I see that crypotolocker was in the news a few weeks ago.I wondered if there had been any definite fix, reversal, or ability to retrieve the files?

At the time, whilst most of my stuff was backed up, I still lost about two weeks work (jpegs, pdfs, pngs, txts, docs) that I'd like to retrieve. If its really not possible, then I'm just going to format the drive, as its running very slow and most of the programs that contain any of those file extentions no longer run properly, as the progams contain some of those file extensions

Best wishes, R

A:cryptolocker - is there a solution now?

If you can get a sample file that was encrypted, upload it to https://www.decryptcryptolocker.com/, some security companies were able to get access to the keys of the encrypted files, and will give them out for free. Good luck

I've been asked to put 'electronic signatures' on PDF documents. This I can do in Acrobat, but I only want the signature to appear. I can't seem to get rid of the date or other information it puts in the box. Can anyone suggest anything, or perhaps some other software for electronic signatures?

Hi,
First, what kind of community or forum is this? I can't find anything on Google about it. But I've chatted with the Microsoft Support and they told me to ask the question here.
I'm going to have an IT team with a friend, we answer questions through live chat and email, and I'll be the one handling the emails. I'm looking for an email solution for one user, including an email address. Not too expensive, but still professional.
I've heard about Microsoft's internal tool called CAP (Customer Assistance Portal), but I'm not sure if it's possible to download it anywhere, and I don't know if it would work for me.
I know, this isn't the right category to ask this question, but it's the best category I was able to found, "Windows Tools".
Thanks

Hi,
check your power supply for over load.
May not be quite enough push.
jut a thought. If you upgrade hardware must check to see if the power supply can handle the extra power it take for that new hardware. [watts, amps, volts.

I posted this yesterday under "Am I infected" so this is a cross post. Please delete whichever is posted in the wrong spot.My computer became infected with this today. I am using Windows XP.I tried to follow the instructions found here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-remo...ir-solution-proI followed all the steps multiple times. rkill, iExplore, and eXplorer were all downloaded and tried individually and simultaneously. I tried to run rkill 50 times fast and then 50 times in a row slow. It does initialize but then shuts down quickly. Notepad will pop up eventually with a log but it is blank.Malwarebytes antimalware was downloaded and installed. It will start but after 3 to 7 seconds of scanning, it gets shut down. Same thing happened when I tried SuperAntiSpamware and HitmanPro35.There is a process running called nircmdc.rkexe. I can stop it but it restarts itself. I seached the c drive for all files and folders with this name to delete and there were 8. I deleted all and emptied recycle bin. Then it came back.Is there any hope or do I have to do a system restore? Also, I had an external hard drive (F) attached at the time it got infected. Is it ok to move the external hard drive to a working machine in the meantime or is it also infected?I did read this link http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/34773/preparation-guide-for-use-before-using-malware-removal-tools-and-requesting-help/ I was able to run defogger but can not enable firewall or run dds or gmer. The other day my dial-up modem went kaput rendering the Microsoft "Fax and Scan" inoperable. I do not intend to replace it .
So I am asking about a simple solution for me to send an occasional fax. What's available?

A:What is a good fax solution?

Vonage may be a good solution at $15/mo. You would have to ask them how to set it up.

There are other companies that offer internet phone services. You should be able to find those using Google.

If I am not mistaken, there are online services for sending FAXs you may want to look into.

I'm giving my XP the kiss of life so that I can copy files stored on it. When I tried to enter my password, nothing happened - no big round black blobs. I've tried again and again with a different mouse and even a wired keyboard but still nothing.

I wasn't a member here at the time (two weeks) ago so I asked for advice in the Microsoft Community and got some technical advice.

In case it helps someone else who has the same problem from feeling as embarrassed as I was at the time before you ask the experts here, first try my low-tech solution:
