Best configuration for Windows 7 and browser for my demand

Q: Best configuration for Windows 7 and browser for my demand

I have an old laptop.
HP Compaq 6820s
Processor: Intel Pentium Dual CPU T2390 1.86GHz
Memory: 2047MB(667)
Video Adapter: ATI Mobility Radeon X1350
I use Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1 + last updates.
Browser: Google Chrome
95% of the time I use this laptop to watch videos here:
The Windows has just been installed on the fresh formatted partition. But even in this situation when I only watch the videos from the above link, they still work interrupted sometimes, and Google Chrome loads a lot the task manager.
Considering the above please answer to the next questions:
1. Which are the best optimizations for Windows 7 to help me to see those videos smoother?
2. Do you consider is there any other browser which is more dedicated and lighter for watching videos online? If no, tell me please with are the best optimizations for Google Chrome to improve it for my demand.
Thank you very much !

A: Best configuration for Windows 7 and browser for my demand

Hi xspeed, I dont think your issue will be with the browser, there are other factors when streaming.
Laptops network card
Is it a N or G network card?
Are you wireless or hardline?
Your network
Who is your isp (most packet manage)
What router are you using?
Are you using a proxy?
What firewall are you using
The streaming server itself
How many people are hitting it at once
whats there down speed

I happen to know the Danish PBS service DR's website as I follow TV from all Scandinavian countries, simply switching to a proxy in respective country and logging in to DR (Denmark), NRK (Norway) or SVT (Sweden). For my native Finland I have other IPTV based services available.

There's a point in me telling the above: I really know the website you are using, and know that there's really not much you can do to make your watching experience smoother using your current laptop. Here's first a screenshot, watching a documentary on DR about Henry VIII of England:
Look how little resources my PC is using for this video stream, only 0.2% of CPU and under 27 MB of RAM, plus additional 3% of CPU and 190 MB RAM for browser in general.

This means the specs of a PC to watch DR stream don't have to be anything special to watch a smooth DR video stream, except for one thing: the GPU, the video adapter. As changing GPU in a laptop is really difficult, you have to cope with what you have.

Here are my tips to you:1. Run MSConfig.exe, edit Startup by disabling autostart of any unnecessary programs:

2. Edit Services by disabling all but Microsoft services:

- Select Hide all Microsoft services
- Click Disable all
3. Use smaller resolution in order to use less resources; your laptop's native max resolution is 1440 * 900 but changing that to for instance 1280 * 768 uses much less resources but the video quality remains almost the same

My browser has been hijacked and defaults to 2 specific porn sites at the FIRST loading of IE each day. (Each subsequent loading behaves normally, until a date change take effect; then these sites open again immediately after my home page loads.) Ad-Aware, Spybot, Hijack This, and NAV have all failed to detect a problem, and therefore can not remove the offending files. (More likely, I just don't recognize and haven't isolated the offending issue within the Hijack This logs.) I have attached the Hijack This log as well as the startup list for your perusal. I have not included the names of the sites as their posting would be inappropriate, but if you need them, I shall be happy to supply them. Not surprisingly, Mozilla Firefox remains unaffected by this intrusion, but I would like to clean-up IE in the process.

Can you please help?

So yesterday automatic Windows update installed IE10, today I noticed that links in certain applications open in IE10 instead of my configured default browser, which every link from this or any other application used to open in before that update and the reboot that followed the update.
I checked the Default Programs section in the system control panel, expecting maybe Microsoft wanted to get themselves in any more trouble with the EU and changing the default to IE. This was not the case however, all the associations were still pointing to the configured default browser, I noticed however I could not uncheck the defaults already set.
So despite the obvious configuration being correct, links would still open in IE10 even after yet another reboot.
I went ahead and checked the registry associations, and found that http(s) protocol as well as htm(l) filetypes were associated with Internet Explorer with various EditFlags set (presumably to prevent changing them through the user interface, or to ignore the user interface settings).

Seriously Microsoft? Don't you have enough trouble yet?

I'd avoid IE10 and uninstall the update. It's riddled with bugs.

A:Windows Defender - On-Demand Scanner

RE: Windows Defender

Is this for Windows 8, or Windows 7? because if it was for Windows 7 it's a joke, but for Windows 8 I would drop CIS for MSE, because you can't have too running at the same time. Yes you said an On-Demand scanner, but that is what MBAM and Hitman Pro are for.

Today my manager has asked those that have w7 on their machines to remove it. Not sure what the reason for this was but i think it could be due to licencing legitimacy and/or compliance. Our company has yet to have a W7 build and therefore we are not allow to use it as the main (work) OS.

So now i have an issue. I was told to remove W7 and go back to XP, regardless of whether it's dualboot or not.

I have a work laptop as well as a home laptop which i could use for w7, but it's during work that i have all the fun with w7.

So what to do? Hide my w7 boot so that it won't get detected by my work network administrators, if so how exactly do i do this, from boot manager listing to network stealthility.

A:Windows 7 to go at work...on manager's demand.

If it was me I would tell my boss to stop being a technophobe and allow the new OS :P

I have home-worked the net and got nowhere so far, so I will ask my friends here. This unknown intruder has the impressive name of - Browser Configuration Utility Auto-Recovery Service.

Recently, I have noticed BCU.exe and BCUService.exe pop up in my Active Processes List. I do not know where it came from or what program owns it. The providers appear to be DeviceVM.
It takes 296K of Memory, with a memory peak of 2,212K and 712K VM. It all sounds one hell of a lot of resource. AND for whom or what ?

I have disabled BCU.exe using CCleaner and Blocked the files using Comodo Defense+, but it still comes up on the running processes and keeps asking Comodo to modify the Registry key which is disabled every few seconds. Consequently the Comodo Defense Events are growing at a massive rate.

The whole thing is a pain. I wish I could quarantine every bit of it, but none of my several security programs pick it up as a threat.

Please can anybody tell me what this parasite is ? Where did it come from ?
How can I get rid of it ?
The only download I have recently had worth a mention is Sandboxie - surely that did not place this nuisance on my PC ?

Any explanations and help will be greatly appreciated.

A:BCU - Browser Configuration Utility

Browser Configuration Utility is not a virus or dangerous. I assume you have a Gigabyte motherboard and when installing the system this program gets installed. There is also a readme file stating "The Browser Configuration Utility is an easy-to-install, easy-to-use, powerful search engine." I found it here on a Windows 7 system -- C:\Program Files\DeviceVM\Browser Configuration UtilityThis file mentions"The Browser Configuration Utility is an easy-to-install, easy-to-use, powerful search engine.""In the Address Bar of either Internet Explorer 6, 7, or 8, type the string of characters you want to search for, then press the <Enter> key. The default Address Bar search engine is Yandex (for Russian), Baidu (for Simplified Chinese), or Yahoo (for all others), depending on your language and location."You can safely uninstall by using Windows control panel's Add/remove programs utility to uninstall the Browser Configuration Utility and restore your browser autosearch function back to normal.

I've long been a fan of Opera-USB (portable) browser as it was highly customizable and left no trace on the host machine. It's been out of date for a while now but it's replacement has arrived. If anyone is using Opera 18 Standalone version (64bit) I have a couple of questions.

Is there any way to import Opera bookmarks other than by downloading and installing the "bookmark manager" extension.

Is there a way to add "Opera Dragonfly" as I've found this very useful in the past.

Can you find a way to "block referrer header" like you could in the old version?

I've tried:

No luck so far!

(I don't wish to install the full desktop version of Opera).

EDIT: Part solved.... Block Referrer has been enabled by installing yet another add on!

Now can anybody help me figure out how to disable DOM storage?

A:Opera 18 Standalone Browser - configuration?

I have stayed with Ver 12 due to the bookmarks idiocy. The Quick Access Bar is not my idea of a bookmarks function, grrr.

That said, I found a method by using Chrome (oh boy). If you have Chrome you could try, doubt that is easier then using the extension

1. Launch the O12, open the Bookmarks Manager (Ctrl+Shift+B), from the "File" menu, select "Export as HTML",

2. Launch the Chrome, open the Bookmark Manager (Ctrl+Shift+O), and from the "Organize" menu, select "Import bookmarks from HTML file",

3. Copy the "Bookmarks" file, from the Chrome's profile folder, e.g. "...Google\Chrome\User Data\Default", to the Opera 18's profile directory, e.g. "...Developer Opera\profile\data" (overwrite existing file).

Before you start copy/paste, be sure to close both: the Chrome, and the Opera.

Since Opera 18 uses WebKit instead of Presto, currently it has no Dragonfly. Google uses something called Chrome Inspector. Unsure whether Opera will eventually have that, or they are working on a new Dragonfly.

I have a problem with a simple 2 pc lan with win 2000.
I use ICS on one of it and everything works well with the exception that for no reason whatsoever the ICS server start to dial all on its own even when nobody is using any of the 2 pc.

help will be appreciated.

A:ICS dialing on-demand

My guess is you have a program running on one of the machines that requires an internet connection(icq, aim, etc). You can disable the other machine from dialing the ICS machine >right click my network places on the desktop> proerties>right click your dialup connection>properties>sharing tab> and take the check out of dial on command.
Hope this helps

Hello , I am talking here about the scans you can perform by clicking "Perform full system scan".I mean , in my opinion , there is no interest scanning this way , because you have a real time scanner that analyses every single file that is being read.I mean that if there are any malicious activities in background or not , your real time scanner should intercept it.However , I know we can discover infected files after a manual full scan.My thoughts :1-If we do have infected files after a manual full scan (not detected by real time scanner) , it can either be a remnant (registry key/single file) of a previous eradicated malware OR a non-active threat (the file itself is infected but is not doing any harm to the PC , ex:Random infected EXE).2-But in every case those files are UNACTIVE , meaning that they're not running.(Because your real time scanner would be showing up something if they ware active). What are your opinions ?

A:"On demand" Scans , why ?

A real-time scanner generally is less thorough than a full system scan in its analysis of files and registry entries. Most realtime scanners will skip files which are unlikely to carry an infection (like files ending in .txt for example) and don't perform the full battery of analyses that the scanner engine is capable of.

In a sense, realtime scanning can be thought of as a security guard whereas a full system scan would be a SWAT team.

Just a point that may interest some users.

For a long time I have used ZA Free FW, until for some reason it started to give trouble logging events.
My loading from start-up and general responses have been poor, but I have put up with them. I often got the reply that I have too many add-ons and auxiliary programs and that is why my loading is poor. I understand the theory, but never believed it was causing my slow responses.

Queries to the ZA Forum were a waste of time, it was always my fault or my crappy old PC that did not suit their beloved FW.

I finally dumped ZA and installed PrivateFirewall. Amazingly, the loading from start is now infinitely better and subsequent responses no problem. The situation is so consistent that it cannot be imagination.

My conclusion ? ZA must impose a much heavier demand on PC resources than PrivateFirewall does.
The difference in performance is so staggering that it is hard to believe, but I am now thoroughly pleased.

Has anybody any comments on the apparent vast improvement made by this change in FW ?

I have noticed quite a few referances to "uncheck" install on demand in IE. I have unchecked it through tools-options-advanced. Would someone take the time to tell what this feature does and what will I lose by unchecking it? FYI for some reason I could not un-install AdWare ver. 5.71 so I just installed 5.8 over it and all seems well. Thank you very much for all the help in the past. This is just a GREAT site.

A:Install on Demand

#2) There could be a number of reasons you were not able to un-install the app. If it's working now I wouldn't worry about it.

#1) You will sometimes browse a Web-site whose pages have features unusable on your system. Install on demand tells the browser to automatically attempt to download and install the software need in order to use these features. If it is unchecked your system should prompt you whenever it encounters one of these situations. You may then authorize or refuse the d/l/install - but at least you will know what is going on and why. You really don't lose anything except convenience by un-checking the option,,, and you keep better control of your system.

btw- If you go back to where you un-checked the option... click the question-mark at the top of the box... then single-click directly on ANY option you will get a brief description of the option.

If you are talking about a malware scanner, then MalwareBytes and Super AntiSpyware are the two best. If you are talking about Anti Virus, there are a lot of good ones. Norton is fine as are most other "name brands". Personally, I use Kaspersky on all systems as an AV solution with MalwareBytes for occasional supplementary scans for malware.

When you delete a file in Windows it is stored in the Recycle Bin and remains there until you empty the Recycle Bin or restore the file. On NTFS file systems, Recycler is the name of the Recycle Bin Folder in each partition. On FAT Systems, the folder is named Recycled. The Recycler folder contains a Recycle Bin directory for each registered user on the computer, sorted by their security identifier (SID). Inside the Recycler folder you will find an image of the recycle bin with a name that includes a long number with dashes (S-1-5-21-1417001333-920026266-725345543-1003) used to identify the user that deleted the files. Most Virus checkers do what you want.
I and many people recommend a free (at the moment) one called AVG. It uses very little resources, scan incoming Mail, files read etc. You can get it to scan all downloaded files and you can right click on a file/folder and get it to scan it.

I downloaded 4oD two days ago, since then I have experienced multiple problems. 1 can't do system restore. 2 unable to receive any messages via outlook express, error message ox8000cccof appears after a long delay 3 slow download speed on internet explorer. I found a solution on the web to download KCLEAN and run that - this removed the file khost but has resolved the other problems.
I run Windows XP with service pack 3 installed, I also use Norton 360 as my antivirus software.
Please help.

After some research I finally figured out what a VOD was. At least I think I do. I wanted to set up a VOD that can be accessed via the web and the mobile platforms as well. I know that this is easier said then done, but what would I have to do to create a platform that is similar to netflix or youtube? (wouldn't Netflix be considered a VOD?) I just need someones help to lead me in the right direction.

I've been running the following for a while:

Elitegroup Computers 741GX-M Motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 2600+ Processor (2 GHz)
Leadtek Winfast A400GT 256Mb AGP Graphics Card
1.5 Gb DDR RAM
Hitachi 40 Gb 7200 RPM Hard Drive
AOpen 16x CD/DVD Dual Layer ReWriter
Etech 400W PSU
2 x Silenx case fans

Yesterday I added a 2nd HD (80 Gb Samsung Spinpoint) and noticed that now one of my case fans doesn't work. Is it feasible that my PSU can't cope with what I'm asking of it and has therefore shut down one of the fans?
Maybe before posting I should have tried disconnecting the remaining fan and plugging the other one back in to see if that made it work, but I didn't think of that until now!

A:Is my PSU unable to cope with the demand?

Unplug the hard drive, see if the fan works. Fans use very little power so I'm suprised it would quit spinning.

I was a bit careless in the recent past and got infected numerous times with numerous things. The infected hard drive was the final straw, so I upgraded my PC. I am now running Vista 64 on a quad-core with 8GB RAM (not bragging, just letting folks know that I have a lot of available resources).

My recent experiences have left me believing that no single product can catch everything. So I want to run AntiVir as a real-time AV, but would also like to have 1 or 2 on-demand scanners to make for a layered defense - particularly when I'm playing with software of dubious origin.

But which on-demand scanners are the ones to chose? I can only find 2 that are clearly on-demand and clearly don't have real-time components that are forced on. These 2 are BitDefender and McAfee Command-Line Scanner.
Are there any other on-demand AV scanners which people can recommend?
Am I making assumptions about other AV scanners? That is, is it possible to install 2 real-time scanners but disable the real-time engine on 1 of them, but leaving it's on-demand capabilities around? (This sounds unlikely, but I have to ask.)

Thanks in advance.

A:Antivir plus which on-demand scanners

I was wondering if there was a way to test your on demand protection for your anti-virus. Sort of like a leaktest for firewalls, but for your anti-virus...or is this too dangerous as you basically have to download a file that is a virus in order to test this?

A:Is there a way to test you On-Demand protection?

Hi there, the best way to test your AV is to download virus files from Malwarebytes Forum and then execute it to see if your AV catches it. But since it may prove fatal, I'd strongly recommend you to 1st install Shadow Defender - the easiest PC/laptop security and privacy protection tool and then run your C drive in shadow mode so that whatever changes you make or whatever harm the virus causes, a quick feboot and you are back to normal.

I was wondering if I can use Zemana Antimalware as pure on demand scanner?
I don't want it to load itself at startup.
I have Malwarebytes setup in such a way that it only loads one service it but nothing else.
I would like to have Zemana do the same, I don't want it to eat up any resources if it's not in use.

A:Can I use Zemana AntiMalware as pure on demand?

Hello @Tempnexus are you using the free version or the premium, if you simply want an on-demand scanner than use the free version, (assuming you use Windows) right-click the taskbar and click task manager, then go to startup and find Zemana, then click disable

Hope this helps, have a good day!

Could someone tell me if it is reasonable to believe that a laptop draws as much as 3.5 Amps from its battery during average use over a 1.5 hour period. That would have to be the case if the battery's stated rating (by the manufacturer) is to be believed. He states 5200 mAH for the battery's capacity, and I got only 1.5 hours from it, fully charged. The 3.5 A seems like an awfully high current to me, more appropriate for a 1 horsepower motor running at 240 Volts, 840 Watts. My electric hotplate is only 800 Watts. My guess is that the laptop probably does not draw more than 1.5 A. If that is true, the manufacturer, being Chinese, meant not 5200 mAH but maybe 2500 mAH. Chinese IS written from right to left, isn't it? Seriously though, does any one know what the average current draw of a laptop would be, say an old Inspiron 1150 or other ?

PC Tools Threatfire; recommend as an on-demand
If anyone's thinking of downloading, installing, using PC Tools Threatfire, I recommend configuring it as an on-demand tool. Default Actions --> first 2 = Prompt Me, 3rd = Quarantine and Alert. I don't recommend the first two actions set as allow or quarantine. Threatfire Protection = Off. I think the community reports may be useful, kinda sorta like Fox & CNN Kwik-News.

I need some info/suggestions on anti-spyware programs...
I've been reading up on a variety of programs, but my eyes are now beginning to cross. I am hoping you all can help.

I want to replace Ad-Aware - which I used for years ? with something else. It just seems to use more and more of my resources, and doesn?t seem to be catching much.
I need something I can run on-demand that won?t hog up my system resources when it scans. I also need it to be able to scan all user profiles during one scan without having to do each of them individually.
This is for my desktop pc that the kids use, which is a multimedia event in its own.
Right now, I am running XP Media Edition, with Avast 4.8, Windows Defender as my resident, and am running WinPatrol. I have MBAM?s free-version that I run periodically, as well.
Any suggestions, ideas, or info. is GREATLY appreciated!

A:On-Demand Anti-Spyware Programs

MBAM free is one of the best on demand scanners, you can also use Superantispyware free and Hitman Pro (free for scanning). But IMHO, following safe computing practices are far more important than piling on on-demand scanners. lately for no reason that i can discover, when when trying to watch any on demand free moves on the net, it will load for about 15% of the movie, then suddenly stop and then the orange strip indicating the process of the movie shoots to the end and wont load any more. This was the case for all the services that supply these movies. Some of the sites buffer and stops after buffering for 16% or a little more or it says it is 20% loaded and stops and goes back to the beginning. I am not the only one with this problem as i read where people have the same problem but no one can offer any solutions. I don't have trouble with sites such as yotube or live sites only on the demand moves such as megavideo and their like. thanks

The New York Public Library offers a free service where they allow the download of movies using a small program which they also provide (for free). I'm sure that this is also available through libraries all over the country.

You are allowed one download every day and need to watch it by the end of one week.
If anyone is interested, they just added a lot of new BBS older TV shows.

I've been able to watch the movies until this week. Normally you click on the download button and a countdown begins to show when it is ready to play. Now, all that happens is the countdown appears but doesn't count down. The movie is never viewable.

I wrote to their customer service but there was only an auto-response.

There are instructional videos in the program which I am able to view so it isn't the program.

Does anyone else use this program and know how to correct this?

Program/s including updates work, but scanner doesn't - creates blue screen/message each time: "fatal exception OC at f000:0000814d".
Have uninstalled the AV, reinstalled it, rebooted: same thing. Scanner does not work, period. I'm at a loss here.
Have run Adaware, Trojan Hunter, Hijack This, S&D, PCpitstop online AV scanner; they all show nothing amiss, so it's highly unlikely anything got by NOD32.

The speed and ability to complete an anti-virus or anti-malware scan depends on a variety of factors. The program itself and how its scanning engine is designed to scan: using a signature database vs heuristic scanning or a combination of both.Options to scan for spyware, adware, riskware and potentially unwanted programs (PUPS).Options to scan memory, boot sectors, registry and alternate data streams (ADS).Type of scan performed: Deep, Quick or Custom scanning. What action has to be performed when malware is detected.A computer's hard drive size.Disk used capacity (number of files to include temporary files) that have to be scanned.Types of files (.exe, .dll, .sys, .cab, archived, compressed, packed, email, etc) that are scanned.Whether external drives are included in the scan.Competition for and utilization of system resources by the scanner.Other running processes and programs in the background.Interference from malware.Interference from the user.-- Using two security scanning engines at the same time can cause each to interfere with the other, cause systems hangs, false detections, unreliable results and other unpredictable behavior. Some online scanners will detect existing anti-virus software and refuse to cooperate so may have to disable the real-time protection components of your existing anti-virus and try running the scan again. It is not unusual for an anti-virus or anti-malware scanner to be suspicious of some compressed, archived, .cab .jar and packed files beca... Have been running Win7 Home Premium on a machine for several months. Did the rearm thing twice while I was testing it and messing with hardware changes. Once I was done, activated the license online. Checked the properties panel and saw that it was activated.

That was weeks ago.

Then this weekend, booted the machine and got a popup saying the copy was not genuine!

Checked the properties panel -- still showed it as activated.

But, went through the online activation routine using the phone, entered the 30 characters, activation restored.

So, OK, it was easily fixed. But it never should have happened in the first place!

Anyone else recently had to reactivate their legitimate Win7 copy? Or is MS just out to monitor me?

I can't get the scheduler to run on-demand scans after the set time period it's supposed to run is passed. Would like to run a scan each Saturday morning and set it to run at 6:00 AM and have set it to run as soon as possible in case it didn't run at the scheduled time.

Now for as long as the PC is running before, the scan starts as intended at 6:00, however in case I only boot up the machine later Eset doesn't run the scan.

I messed around with the settings a bit, scheduled it daily at 6:00 AM but also tried single days and also checked both "run as soon as possible" or "immediately, if time since last run exceeds a specified value" but no matter what I try it only works in case the PC is up an running at the time in question.

Since I can't make it work on my notebook either, I am wondering if I simply misinterpret how the function should work in the first place - is it supposed to catch up on scans that got missed because the PC was powered down at all or only in case other settings (such as Game Mode) prevent the scans to run on schedule?

Hi all!
Nowadays, of course by default you have your real-time multi-layered anti-virus, anti-malware and anti-exploit/anti-ransomware tools set to automatically scan your downloaded files for malware, as this is a security-wise imperative.
Moreover, it is equally important to scan your downloaded files on-demand for malware before using them, as this could further help eliminate malware; BTW I speak from experience.
I myself scan all the files that I am about to download with VirusTotals's Vtzilla browser add-on before actually downloading them, and afterwards with my AV/AM (EAM Pro) and MBAM Free. If the files are big however, I use Metascan Online.
There are several reputable online file analyzers & services as well as on-demand scanners out there, and hence my question is as follows: How do you scan your downloaded files on-demand for malware before using them?
Please specify which tools and methods you use!
Thank you very much in advance!

I have Winxp pro SP2 with Windows Media Player 10 and until 2-3 months back was able to play all kinds of streaming media files on the net.

However, I don't know what happened but now I am not able to play most streming media files including Video on Demand VOD from sites such as etc...

Whenever I click on any such file, the media player window opens and the statusbar at the bottom says "ready" but nothing happens.
Thanks in advance for any help in this regard.

Thanks & Regards

I need to set up three user accounts on two computers the accounts on each computer is going to be monitored.
Each user will be assigned access for certain folder or files and certain applications, like internet explorer.
And all usb ports and dvd drive will be blocked. Only the admin will be allow to have full access.

So i need to do something that allow ( managers) to monitor employees activity on the system during working hours.

On one pc is windows xp pro on the other os windows 7 home premium.

Any idea how i can acomplish this task?

I.was thinking of group policy on both computers but on home premium there is not group policy.

Also the users will be using almost all the same programs and files just the with different information.

Thank you in advance.

A:group policy configuration and computer configuration question

But for Windows 7 Home Premium you will not have the
Local Security Policy so you may need to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro for that.

This is easier to control with a server like Windows Server 2003 or 2008.

I decided to get rid of real-time antivirus. And I'm now running my computer without any real-time anti-virus/anti-malware program installed. However, I'd like to know as to which are the good free on-demand anti-virus/anti-malware scanners available. I do not want to know about any real-time scanners, I want to know about on-demand scanners.I already have a firewall and all I'm gonna need now is this - a good one. I hope you guys will help.

A:A good on-demand anti virus/malware scanner

Ok, although they may miss some newer ones ,stopping them before they get on is the easyer way.

Good afternoon everyone, I know a number of 3rd-party firewall applications have within them an option to run an on-demand anti-spyware scan and even a scheduled one.My question is this: Since I already have Malwarebytes Pro (real-time scanning enabled, as well as, performing regular quick/full scans); Avast! Antivirus (free); and SuperAntispyware (free version - which I will perform periodic quick & full scans with) there any reason to perform an on-demand anti-spyware scan with the FIREWALL product as well?Thank you in advance for your time and any enlightenment!

A:Firewalls with on-demand anti-spyware scanning option

I think it makes no sens to have third anti-malware app/module even in firewall. You already have in real-time Avast Free and MBAM Pro and it's enough.

This is my first post here and I'm glad a BSOD forum exists. I don't ask for help with my pc often, but I'm stumped. I have a high end build that crashes while I'm playing demanding games like GTA V. It has crashed at random times when performing simple tasks. Its tedious having decent hardware, but being not being able to fix it yourself. Any help is appreciated!

hello everyone,

my problem is how to boost the signal of public wifi
which demands user name and password (web authentication ),
like in hotels, or even from Iphone hotspot.

Right now i am using acess point TP-LINK WA801ND,
which in universal REPEATER mood increase signal of private wifi,
but failed to do so when needed web authentication.
To be more exact, the connection is made but the page with user name and password never comes.
my question so would be : is there a way to overcome this problem using this device,
or is there any other device like maybe strong antenna which will make the work for me ??

thank you in advance

Desperate for some help here so let me try explain this better:

I have created a simple database using access. I have little knowledge of VB or SQL so have created the database using the WYSIWYG features incorporated in the programme.

Basically I have three tables called family, students and grades. [Family] is my primary table. [Students] is a linked table holding the information of individual students of each family. I then created an input form using [Family] and inbedding [students]. At this point everything works superbly. I can create a family record and then link specifc students to this family. From here I have created querries to filter the information according to my needs. Using the querries as a basis I have then developed reports which print the required info I need in the required layout.

Now I would like to create a new section using the same structure as above for new enrolments. These tables will have many of the same fields as the above. By linking the tables I can automatically replecate the information, however I only want to do this for specific records. In other words, only when the new enrolled family is finalised must a new family and student record be created.

Basically,by linking tables, this happens automatically. I want to bypass this and create a macro (I think) which will create a record on request only.

I hope I have explained this correctly.

Hi, so for the last few months Ive gotten a worse and worse BSOD. I noticed it first in the flight simulator when I would zoom when looking out the canopy and I would see distant enemy fighters and then I would get BSOD just as i saw them. Then Flying my RC simulator I get BCOD very quick. Now it seems when watching a TV show online and clicking on a video of something funny or interesting it will get BSOD. To me it seems as if anytime the computer is working hard on something visual it shuts down for the BSOD. Anyways here is the info needed, here is from when i restart and it shows me the "details", and following the instructions ive attached the file I made with the DM log. Thank you guys. Im considered a Newb going into this "deep" with computers but im a quick learner so I hope you will stick with me so I can get this figured out So i can start my online video editing class. Thanks!

These bugchecks indicate a Machine Check Exception has occurred which means the hardware has signified (via a standard messaging interface) through the processor driver that an correctable hardware error has occurred ,the system then bugchecks on purpose, the result is a 0x124 error.

It looks like a very strong indication of a bad CPU, given that all your dump files show this:

Error : DCACHEL1_DRD_ERR (Proc 0 Bank 0)
Status : 0xb400200069000135
Address : 0x0000000032c10c00
Misc. : 0x0000000000000000
A level 1 cache data read error on the primary processor of the first memory bank, this is a consistent error within your bugchecks, this is bad, especially on the first processor.

I recommend running Prime95 to find out.

Stress test your CPU with Prime95

I recommend running Prime95 for around 2 hours

As with most stress tests your component's temperature will rapidly increase.
It is advised that you download a temperature monitoring program like HWmonitor
Keep an eye on your temperatures and stop the tests if it starts to overheat

Try taking out the CMOS battery on the motherboard then placing it back in to ensure no improper settings have been made.

Post back the results.

My laptop has two SSD drives that run in RAID 0 configuration (so it's hardware RAID, not software RAID, but specifically RAID 0, where data are stored across two drives, not mirrored).

I am currently running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit and ran into some difficulties when I turned on Bitlocker. I was able to get my computer back to functioning, and Bitlocker says that my drive is now fully encrypted, but I have an error message from
Intel, which is how we discovered that my drive is really two drives with RAID 0. I'm wondering if anyone knows much about this. Specifically:

Does Bitlocker in Windows 8.1 Pro support RAID 0 -- should I trust that it's actually fully encrypting my data and won't cause problems going forward, e.g., if I de-encrypt and re-encrypt to change the Bitlocker settings or upgrade my OS?

Would upgrading to Windows 10 Pro, which I haven't done yet but plan to do eventually, result in Bitlocker working better with my RAID 0 configuration (e.g., is RAID 0 newly supported in Windows 10 Pro?)?

I haven't been able to find information about Bitlocker and RAID 0 that is current enough to answer my questions.

I have an old P3 system that I let my son use for internet browsing, email, etc. It has been rock solid for 6+ years until lately and I think the issue of not booting properly is that the master CD-ROM gave up the ghost. And so I took that out hoping that is all it will take.

Here is my question (and I feel so much like a noob; I did try to google but I got nothing): Where do I place the tab to take it from slave to single configuration? As slave the tab was placed on the far left in the verticle position. Am I correct in that to make it singular I need to place it horizontally on the bottom two prongs center-right?

I hope I am making myself clear. This is an old system and it has been years since setting it up and I don't have my manuals anywhere. I couldn't even access Buslink's website.

Thanks for your help.

A:CD-RW Configuration - from slave to single configuration?

The jumper will fit on the pins, based on what is imprinted or embossed on the drive. It is usually very difficult to see... but if you use a flashlight or other device you can place at different angles, you can see how the jumper choices are stamped into the metal. Most often the center two are Slave, the right is Master, and the left is Cable Select.
I suggest you jumper it as master.
If it is a known brand, you can find a drawing on the website of the optical drive manufacturer.

I have a Samsung laptop a few years old - Core i7, 2TB HDD, 8gb Memory. It was supplied with Windows 7 and I have the W7 installation dvd that came with it.

Over the years I have booted from this DVD and re-installed a fresh copy of W7 several times with no problems whatsoever.

A few months ago I succumbed and upgraded to Windows 10 - no problems - it all ran fine.

I wanted to go back to W7 so I deleted all partitions on the HDD, booted from the W7 DVD as usual. Selected country:UK and created a new partition on the HDD (whole of the HDD). Files were copied to the HDD in the usual manner, Windows 7 installed up to 100%, then onto features etc. The installation went with no problems up to the fourth step - installing updates. I though it was a few seconds away from completion and re-boot. However, I then got the message 'Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration'.

Repeated several times, deleting and re-creating partition on the disk but the same happened.

In the end, I installed Windows 10 on the HDD by booting from a USB stick with W10 on and it installed no problems.

Anyone got any idea what it going on? It looks like my install of W10 has changed the disk somehow so W7 cannot ever be installed again on the disk.

My computer was shut down unexpectedly. Now, when I try starting it up it comes up with a screen saying:

"We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successully. A recent hardware or software change may have caused this." etc etc.

Then it has 5 options:
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Start Windows Normally

I've tried starting it with the last 2 options but it just reboots again.
I don't know what to do about it.

Hi all,

Thanks in advance for helping with my problem -- I really appreciate it.

Last weekend I got a very bad infection that basically rendered my system unusable, i.e., when I tried to launch resident programs such as Word, some message said that the .exe was infected, and asked if I would like to activate my antivirus software. The problem at that time was evidently a rogue antivirus program; I ran several spyware cleaner programs (those that I saw recommended on this forum) and this seems to have been fixed -- so now it looks like I just have this redirect problem.

First, my details:
- Windows XP Service Pack 3
- IE 8
- Firefox 3.5.5
- Chrome 3.0

Here's what happens: When I use any of the above-mentioned browsers to search, using Google or Yahoo, and I click on one of the links in the search results, I get taken to some random, garbage website instead of the one mentioned in the search results.

Also, multiple browser windows open repeatedly -- multiple windows with IE, and multiple tabs with Chrome. This seems to get worse over time, until the next reboot.

Here's what I've tried within the past two days:
- SuperAntiSpyware
- Spybot Search & Destroy
- Malwarebytes' Anti-malware
- Spyware Doctor
- Browser Hijack Recover
- Windows Live Onecare Safety Scanner
- My primary antivirus program had been McAfee, but now I'm running Microsoft Security Essentials instead

I've run scans with all of the above (some of them in safe mode) but the pro... Read more

Personally, I like having the HP all in one answer incomming faxes and print them out. Before getting one of these I tried several (paid and free) fax software packages. I liked one called Communicate2000 best.
They have a newer version now
It is a full communications manager meant to integrate email, fax, cellphone etc managment with your computer

For PC access it is best to use one of those services which gives you a fax number and emails you the fax.(Efax?)
I can't say I ever found a free fax software I liked.
