Centrino-n 1030 driver issues

Q: Centrino-n 1030 driver issues

Hello everyone, I have been trying to get my wireless working on my Dell Inspiron n5110 on Windows 7 64 bit to no avail. In device manager I have the error "code 10 this device cannot start" I have tried almost everything so far. Reinstalled drivers multiple times, with multiple versions. I have replaced the adapter even though I knew it was a software problem because the wireless works on a live boot Ubuntu and as a last resort I have reinstalled Windows and installed all the proper drivers but still nothing. Any thoughts on what I could be missing or some suggestions?

I'm trying to replace a faulty wireless card and I can't figure out for the life of me where to order a new one. 'HP Part Surfer' doesn't return anything. I'm also not entirely sure where the part number on the wireless card is, all I can really see that might be it is a 'PNOP' number. Thanks in advance!

This card supports 802.11n. Obviously... it's right in the name, plus device manager>network adapters>Intel Centrino>Advanced tab clearly shows n enabled.

But can anyone take a second to tell me, if you know, why when I run the command netsh wlan show drivers, "radio types supported" shows only b and g, and NOT 802.11n ??? Confusing to me.

A:Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030, CMD prompt question

that is odd but if your connected using N and your drivers are up to date i wouldn't worry about it.

Hi, Your machine was built before second half of 2014 therefore the chance to upgrade wireless card is very slim to none. There is a list on pp 6 and 7 of the following manual:  You can use USB wireless adapter, this will cost you one USB port     (Note: much cheaper from other countries). Regards.

I'm having a strange problem. Intel released new drivers to update from version 15.11 to 16.11. I downloaded them from Intel website, ran install, success. When I go into Device Manager to check on the driver version, I see it is still 15.11. I have tried a number of things, including deleting the drivers from the Device Manager and running the install again. However, in this case Windows 8 automatically installs even older drivers, version 14, dated 2011. I'd like to try the new drivers because it takes very long for the net to comeback after I wake up my laptop. Version 15.11 was installed by Windows Update, those drivers are dated January 2014.

I have a relatively new (few months) laptop of my own running Win7 x64 with an "Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030" wireless network adapter. For some reason, I have serious problems connecting to most wireless networks. On my home network there are rarely problems, but when I attempt to any other network (college, or public hotspot, or neighbor's open wireless) there are often issues.

By "issues" I mean: when I first attempt to connect to the network in question, I'm usually able to connect to the first few sites I try to access, but usually after a second or a minute or a few minutes of normal connectivity, I'm suddenly unable to access anything. The browser's response is that DNS lookup has failed; when I record an IP address (via ping-command prompt) and type it in manually after this point, the browser's response is that "##.##..." is taking too long to respond, etc..." No other program is able to connect either. I have tried setting different DNS servers but it has had no visible effect. At this point, the only thing I can do to reconnect is to either wait a long time for the connection to reestablish itself (which can take an hour or more and isn't guaranteed) or to go to Device Manager and disable and reenable the wireless adapter, which then *sometimes* allows me to reconnect for a few seconds or a minute or an hour before connectivity breaks again. When the connection fails, Windows displays the computer ... Read more

A:Unreliable connectivity - Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030

I had the same issue too. My GF's laptop has a 1030 wireless NIC and it had all sorts of issues connecting to the APs in my house. It would work fine with her Linksys wireless router and my Sprint MiFi. But had connectivity/performance problems when connecting to either of my Netgear APs (WG102 and WNDAP350) along with my PC W 620 wireless controller with AP 105 and AP 125 access points. Updating the drivers helped the problem somewhat, but we were still experiencing dropped packets or extremely high latency when connected. Upon a suggestion from one of my coworkers, I tried adjusting the performance/power settings in Windows and that seemed to have fixed the problem. The laptop has been running fine ever since.

I sent my computer in for repairs a while back and now the wireless card won't work. It can't find any signals unless I plug in the one from my desktop. I went to computer/properties/device manager and saw that the wireless card (Intel (R) Centrino (R) Wireless-N 1030) has a yellow "!" next to it. The properties tab says, "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)".

I have tried searching for new drivers automatically but it says they are up to date. I downloaded the latest drivers directly from Intel and tried to manually update them but it said that the drivers are up to date again. This problem occurs whenever I update my computer. I did a system restore and it worked fine for about a month, but once it updated it did the same thing again. There is no restore point to go to this time, so I'm stuck.

Anyone know what I should do?

Intel has warned that out of date drivers for its wireless Centrino platform are plagued with serious security flaws.. The massive 129MB update fixes problems that Intel describes as having the potential to allow 'remote code execution and system control' and affects Intel 2200BG and 2915ABG PRO/Wireless Network Connection Hardware (w22n50.sys, w22n51.sys, w29n50.sys, w29n51.sys) with versions 8 and 9 of the Centrino Patch Follow Up.

I saw some people having trouble with extremely slow wireless connections using an Intel Centrino Wireless n-1030 card. The original thread is closed, so the problem may already be solved, but if anyone is still experiencing this problem, here is what worked for me:

This NIC is a dual band card (802.11 + bluetooth), and with some routers having the bluetooth enabled really slowed down the 802.11n connection (it didn't seem to happen with my netgear router, but when I switched to linksys, WHAMMO!).

Anyway, when I disabled the Bluetooth adapter in Device Manager the problem was completely solved (uhhhh except I need to use a dongle to make my bluetooth mouse work now... small price to pay IMO)

Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience. Hope it can help someone.

I noticed my wireless 1030 is acting strange after getting BSOD(not the cause of Wireless but it was solved)and now I'm experiencing some problems, here are the issue. I'm worried if it is the NIC card it takes a while to connect to a certain webpage then whenI looked up on Event viewer it stated in the lines of Google too long to respond DNS

I would have to click on

A:I'm having wireless Issues with the Intel 1030,Turning off by itself

It almost sounds like a nic driver issue. Have you updated it recently? Try to update, or roll-back if update did not work.
Replacing your nic should not be to hard depending on your device. Usually the nic is the easiest of the add-on boards to get to. But, I really don't think it's the nic. Were you changing, installing, updating anything with your hardware, operating system when this happened? If driver update/rollback doesn't work, try a system restore if feasible.

You should be able to use the XP drivers and install them in compatibilty mode.

Here's a link to the XP Home/Pro 32-Bit Drivers

To run the installer in compatibility mode:

Hello all,

My friend is having trouble with her laptop. Specs:

Lenovo Laptop
Windows 7 Home Premium x64
8.0 GB RAM
500 GB HDD
Intel Centrino Wireless N 1000

She has been having issues for the last few days where her computer will lose internet connection. Her other devices such as her iPhone still work properly on the WiFi. Only the laptop is affected. She says it seems to happen after a half hour so of usage. She has to restart to get it to work again.

I used TeamViewer to remote into her computer and looked at it. It didnt look like anything was out of the ordanary. I ran virus and malware scans, ran sfc /scannow to make sure it wasnt Windows corruption. All of those came back fine. I try to update the driver, but the driver installer will show a screen for about 5 seconds, disappear never to be seen again. Which kinda leads into the next problem.

There are certain files and applications that will not execute on her laptop. They will show the error:

<file path> is not a valid Win32 application.

It seems to be random. I can download one file and it will say that, but the next one will be fine. It doesnt seem to have any rhyme or reason to it. Because of this I cant get the drivers to update, so it seems that I will have to fix that issue before anything else.

Any ideas on this one?

A:Intel Centrino Wireless N 1000 Issues

The problem might be with the laptop, but the solution might be with the WAP - Wireless Access Point (router?).

You might check to see what channel the WAP is using and if it can be set to use one protocol (as opposed to b/g/n).

See the bottom of this post...
Basic Requirements Before Posting your Networking Thread
...for info on the Xirrus app.

Once the connectivity issue is resolved, we can look into the file execution (corruption?) issue.

Hi all,

I have an Asus U56E which has an Intel Centrino 6150 Wireless N + Wimax network adapter on it. This card ran fine the first few months I had it. Then I installed Ubuntu 12.04 with my windows install and ran it dual boot. The card worked fine on Windows but I had to make some configuration changes on Ubuntu for it to run. I did that and it worked fine still. Then, naively, I installed a registry cleaner (wise registry cleaner to be exact), and some time after installing it and running it regularly (usually 2-3 times a week) something went wrong and I started getting this issue with my card. What happens is the wireless will be functioning for some time, perfectly normal, and then it will just lose internet connection. I will have to disable and re-enable the adapter through device manager to get it to work but that only works sometimes, most of the time the device just won't start again and I will get the device can not start error in device manager. Also, when this happens I usually restart my computer and sometimes when I do that (or even when I just turn my laptop on or come back from putting it to sleep) the adapter is not recognized at all, doesn't even show up in device manager. What's most odd about that is that the Wimax still shows up on the list of network adapters but the wireless doesn't show up.

The steps I have taken to try and remedy this issue are, re-install the drivers (by uninstalling them first) from both the asus and intel websites, do a fre... Read more

Hello and welcome Sphoenix am no expert but one thing I don't ever do is us reg cleaners I use CCleaner to fix reg issues only. Having said that I find it hard to believe that any software would wreck the network card or any other hardware piece for that matter.

You say you have reinstalled 7 just how did you do that/ and have you still got Ubuntu on board? If not then why not make a bootable disk and use the try Ubuntu to see if you can access the net if you can perhaps there is something wrong with your 7 install.

You could also look through the reg for that registry cleaner entries as although unlikely maybe there are remnants left over. But it would be good to know how you re installed the Windows first.

I am trying to set up a fresh installation of Windows Server 2016 as a development machine on my T430, type 2349-H2G. Unfortunately, when trying to install the driver for the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 network adapter to enable wireless LAN, the driver set-up fails with the message: A service installation section in this INF is invalid The wireless adapter worked fine as recently as yesterday on Windows Server 2012, but I am unaware if any special steps were taken to install the driver under that OS as I "inherited" the notebook from a former colleague. Is there any advice you can give about things I could try? I already tried manually installing the drivers from both the Lenovo website (Win10) and Intel website (Win8.1 and 7), but all of them had the same issue. I am a sophisticated user and am not afraid to edit .inf files or somethign similar if necessary, but I don't know where to start. Thanks in advance for any help you might render

Hi nmorrisonaz,

Not sure If any malware can do that.

But please do this. Click here to download Hijack This. Run Hijackthis.
Click the "Scan" button when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.

Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required. Someone here will be glad to advise you on what to fix.

*Note: When you download Hijack This Do Not download it to a temp folder or to the desktop. Create a permanent folder somewhere like in My Documents and name it Hijack This and put it in that folder.

I can't figure out what to do. I tried other music sources but I can't find one I like as much as Kazaa. If you know what I should do please HELP!!

A:Kazaa Error 1030, any adivse?

What I would do is:

1. Use a spyware scanner to delete all the spyware that comes with the Kazaa download
2. uninstall Kazaa using the JV16 power tool
3. Do a file search for Kazaa and delete all of the files that are found.
4. Backup the registry
5. Use Jv16 power tool to clean the registry.
6. If you want to and are brave enough, do a manual search for useless Kazaa keys in the registry (be sure to have a backup if you do this)
Reinstall the latest Kazzaa with all of its Spyware. (Perhaps you might want to try Kazaa Lite)

Hello, we have recently purchased several HP Elitebook 1030 G1 notebooks. These come with Windows 10 out of the box, and no discs at all. HP seem to offer a Windows 7 recovery disc via drivers & downloads but this only seems to be for drivers and applications post-Windows 7 install. We still use Windows 7 (Enterprise x64) deploying via SCCM. As the laptop doesn't have a LAN port HP support suggested getting an HP USB-C to Ethernet adapter, but this doesn't seem to help with PXE boot. So moving onwards, I then attempted to do a manual install of Windows 7 x64 via USB. Initially it didn't even boot without turning off secure boot and turning on legacy boot. As the laptop has an M.2 ssd it is not even found by the setup process. I have now gone through adding sata and usb3 drivers via dism to boot+install wim's and also an MS hotfix for NVMe support ( Unfortunately after all this it is still not able to see the hard drive. Unless I am going blind I cannot see any information about this on HP Support. Has anyone done this on this model notebook or similar (ie M.2 ssd)? Thanks

Anyone else care to take a stab at this ?

I have been trying to post for several days but unable to. The issues i have been having includes: my driver for my NVIDIA GeForce 7400 is preventing standby, google is directing me to junk sites, and i am having issues with restarting with either it taking forever to shut down, or when it restarts, all i get is a background and pointer, but that's it.

whenever i try to copy and paste, i think that is what is preventing me from being able to post. so my dds log is attached but that's all i can do for now...

A:several issues... virus? junk sites, device driver, logging on issues

Hello Leah,

I appreciate your efforts, but I really need to see the dds.txt. That's the one with all the 'meat'

Can you please run dds.scr again and attach the dds.txt?

What about gmer? Were you able to run that?

The video card in my Pavilion h8-1030 died and I need to find a replacement. If possible, I'd like to upgrade the card at the same time to the best possible card that would work on this system, within on total $350 budget. Being overly optimistic and with a big dose of wishful thinking I had actually ordered a MSO GeForce GTX 970 , but before it arrived I read that it will not work as teh BIOS version cannot be upgraded to version 8. So I am sending that card back as soon as it arrives. I am unable to buy a whole new computer at this time, so I'm going to have to settle for a new GPU (and PSU if needed). I don't game but I do use Adobe CC 2015 applications, mostly photoshop adn lightroom but ocasionally also premiere and in-design. Before failing the old card was struggling with certian photoshop functions and video editing was slow and frustrating. This is why I would like to upgrade the GPU. Motherboard H-RS880-uATX (Aloe)Processor AMD Phenom II X6 1090TMemory 10 GBBIOS, American Megatrends Inc. 6.12 Is there a list of compatible GPUs? Thank you ever so much for your help.

A:what Video Card upgrades are possible for Pavilion h8-1030?

Hi, The version 6 BIOS in your PC is not compatible with many of the newer graphics cards.  You will need to use an older legacy graphics card in your PC.  The processor and memory in your PC are more than sufficient for most use. I suggest that you look for a NVIDIA GTX 660 for around $226 new on Amazon. You can find the GTX 660 on eBAY for a lot less.  You will also need to replace the power supply. The Corsair CX650m should be around $55 after rebate.

Hello, i have an HP Touchsmart 520-1030, and i wish to upgrade it with i3-3225 processor that i own. Tried to replace it with mine i3-2120, but pc just does not boot. Any way to upgrade bios to support ivy bridge processors? For now i have latest bios 7.12. I see the only difference between models that support ivy and not, is MB name Lavaca3SB[supports ivy] and LavacaSB[does not]. Is it the same mb and i can install Lavaca3SB's bios to mine LavacaSB board or this will not work that way?

First up, hello everyone.

I have XP computers connected to a SBS2003R2 domain that is posting 1030 Userenv errors in the eventlog. I've not checked them all but three of them definitely are, so we can presume they all are.

Through Userenv.log, I've wiggled it down to two variants of:

USERENV(314.480) 21:50:37:892 ProcessGPO: CheckFilterAcess failed for <CN={C94DA5DA-A892-44ED-B77D-618A143ED5CC},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=[domainname],DC=local>. Filter not found

Followed by many of the following that correlate with the eventlog errors:

USERENV(318.868) 09:47:24:929 ProcessGPOs: GetGPOInfo failed.

My question is - whereto from here? OUs, GPO and the such is on the edge of my knowledge. It seems that if I can find what GPO is failing, I'm there.

A:Eventlog 1030 and userenv GetGPOInfo failed

I would suggest since you are apparently having troubles with a Small Business Server that you ask to have this post moved to the Networking forum here at TSG. You will get a better response there. You can do this by clicking the little triangle at the top right corner of the window and ask a moderator to please move this thread to that forum

These event just started appearing a day or two ago, but they continue to repeat every 5 minutes:

Event 1030:
Windows cannot query for the list of Group Policy objects. Check the event log for possible messages previously logged by the policy engine that describes the reason for this.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

Event 1058:
Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO CN={31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=bbpi-pdc,DC=billsblue,DC=com. The file must be present at the location <\\\sysvol\\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\gpt.ini>. (Windows cannot find the network path. Verify that the network path is correct and the destination computer is not busy or turned off. If Windows still cannot find the network path, contact your network administrator. ). Group Policy processing aborted.
They occur exactly every five minutes, and always in this order. I searched for the gpt.ini file it's looking for and found it.

I don't really have any group policies in place, just basic users and computers. Nothing fancy. And I'm afraid I don't quite understand AD enough to just 'experiment' until I make these error go away.

Any ideas and/or guidance would be welcome.... thanks

A:Event 1030 & 1058, repeating. Guidance?

One possibility:
As per Microsoft: "This behavior may occur if the following conditions are true: your Windows XP-based computer is a member of a domain, and the Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS) client is turned off (disabled). To resolve this issue, turn on (enable) the DFS client". See M314494 to find out how to do this. Also check M810907 for a hotfix.

I have the operating system up but can not access the network card to access the internet. I've downloaded the drivers on the software page but get the message that the file is not compatible with the system. I see the recovery disk I can order, but was hoping to find an image of the recovery disk that I can download and burn to a disk myself. Overnight ordering still has a statement about it taking 2 days to process first. Is there another area online that I can get the recovery disk downloaded? Serial number: 3CR2160C7B Thanks in advance.

Hello, Wireless functionality was lost on my HP Pavillion dv7t-6c00 laptop when I upgraded to Windows 10. Here's what I have in my laptop now: Manufacturer: Intel CorporationDescription: Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 1030Driver version: I've read some support threads on this topic and it seems that this wireless card is not supported by Intel in Windows 10. I've also read that one suggestion is to replace the wireless card with an Intel Advanced-N 6230 wireless card. I tried to replace the wireless card prior to upgrading to Windows 10 with an Intel Advanced-N 6230 wireless card but the wireless card I purchased seemed incompatible with the laptop, as it gave me a Halted screen when I started up the laptop.  So my frustration is I would gladly and easily replace the wireless card but I can't keep purchasing cards that are incompatible with the laptop. What are my options?  Is there a specific/guarenteed HP Laptop compatible part number that I can purchase?   Even better, is there a link to where I can purchase a card that will definitely work? Thank you ver much,Chris

Hey sorry for the noob question but i was just wondering whats the differnece with the centrino and a regular processor. Someone told me that its supposed to be almost twice as fast.

Centrino is the wireless control 'processor' built into the newer laptops...

Its only useful if your using wifi...

As for speed increase... Don't think its going to help you there but if you purchase a P4M 2.6 laptop I think it will be more than fast enough for even the hardcore techie

This is not so much as a problem as it is a question...

My friend can get a decent IBM centrino machine at a discount price for school. I know they have the Pentium 4-M chip in them, but is it really worth it?

It's an IBM Thinkpad R50 at 1.5Ghz, 512MB RAM, CDRW/DVD, Integrated wireless/ethernet, 40GB harddrive, XP Pro and 15" screen.

Pricegrabber has the 256 RAM models for 1780-2200 normally (with a 1400 refurbished one too).

He can get the one above for 1500 with extra software. My concern is the Pentium 4-M chip. Is it actually fast compared to a P4 3.0Ghz or a A64 3000+?

A:The value of Centrino??

The Centrino and Pentium 4-M are not the same CPU. A 1.5 Ghz Centrino CPU will not be as fast as a 64bit CPU or a 3 Ghz P4, it would be more along the lines of a P4 2.2 or 2.4Ghz.

If he is buying a laptop and needs a laptop then the Centrino is the way to go. It offers great performance and long battery life. A laptop does not need to have a 64 bit CPU and monster specs; if you need that much power then you are missing the point of what a laptop is suppose to do, and thats to be mobile. If he needs to play games then he should consider a desktop.

Hi there,

I recently purchased a new laptop. In the process of purchasing I ordered a 2.00ghz Dual Core Processor with it. When I recieved it, it had a label Intel Centrino on it, when I expected it to have a 2 Core Duo label on it. Can someone please clear this up for me?
I have been told that A centrino processor is actually double?
So a 1.5 GHZ Centrino = to around 3 GHZ?

Is this correct?

A:Processor Centrino?

The Centrino has a very different design to the P4, it's more efficient--meaning, it gets more work done per MHz than the P4, so a Centrino running at 1.5GHz performs similarly to a P4 at 3GHz.

I am looking at notebooks with the intent of buying one. I MUST have a notebook because I need the portability which is what conflicts with my use of it.

I basically do your normal, any-computer-will-work stuff like web browsing, chat, etc.
Then I am also heavily involved in digital still and video editing. I use Adobe Photoshop 9, Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, Discreet Combustion 4 and occasionally some lite 3ds max when I need to make and import models for combustion. Obviously all of this is very demanding of power(at least if you want a reasonable render time) If a desktop was an option, id be all over it.

What I can't figure out though is which will perform better for these tasks; A pentium M or a Pentium 4.
For comparison purposes, lets say the M is rated at 1.7Ghz and the P4 is 3Ghz w/ HT.
I also see some notebooks with integarted video, which is a big no-no in the desktop world, but does it matter with notebooks? I mean, the video card selection is pretty limited if not non-existant as it is.
Side question: is a Centrino just an M with wireless? If not how does centrino compare to P4 or M?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

A:Pentium M/ Centrino vs. P4

Good question.
Certainly a top end (speed wise) P4 will outperform a Centrino, but even then I would never opt for one over a Centrino.

The P4 or AMD "desk top" chips that the fast notebooks use get VERY hot, shutdowns due to heat are common. Just nowhere to dissapate the heat. To limit the heat they can "step down" the processor speed, so you might not always get the advantage of the fast chip.

They are also damn heavy to lug around.

Some top end Alienware and Dell etc notebooks have reasonable graphics upgrade choices at purchase time but generally they are not designed for gamer type graphics use.

What makes you think that you should get 3-4 hours...based on the work load you put on the machine? Do you have any idea HOW Toshiba does its battery charge duration testing? Like under what type of work load? You may well be consistently exceeding what they consider normal usage?

I am a film editor and I will tell you what I use for much of my editing at home or on the go. I have an HP zd7000us. It has a P4 3.2 ghz, 1 gig of ram, and a 100gb internal HD. I also have a Seagate 300gb external hard drive (if you are using professional software like avid or even fcp you want your projects and media to be on different drives as when they are on the same drive there is a head contention). I have a Nvidia 5600 128mb video card. This system works great for editing and gaming. I paid about $2,400.00 for it about a year ago so it should be less by now. BTW what editing system are you planning to use, if you are serious about editing I don't think there is any question go with avid xpress pro (with mojo if you can afford it) if not don't worrry about mojo. I know many people love fcp and it is a great program but if you are going to work in a professional setting you will probably be using Avid media composer anyway so might as well get used to Avid system.

Since Cetrino notebooks have a builtin 802.11 wireless application, I want to know, how can we network, two Cetrino notebooks together.

A:Connecting two Centrino Notebooks Together

Ad hoc (peer to peer) wireless network. You probably got some utility and/or documentation from the manufacturer of your wireless adaptors; see that for how to set up the wireless part. It may tell you that you need to assign static IP addresses; that is not true; you may leave the TCP/IP properties to "Obtain IP address auto ..." and the Alternate Configuration to "Obtain Private address ...". Be aware though that it may take up to a minute for the 2 computers to negotiate their IP addresses this way.

Once you can ping the other computer from each computer, you can then run the "Set up a home or small office network" wizard to set up a workgroup for file and printer sharing.

See the tutorials in Help and Support Center or on the web to get started. If you run into troubles, come back here with specifics on what you've done and what trouble you're having.

Been out of the new computer thing for a few years, but now I need a new laptop. Is there a difference between "intel core 2 duo", and the "intel core 2 duo centrino"? If so what are they?

Also how does AMD compare to the intel stuff?

A:Intel core 2 duo & Centrino

You'd have to purchase a high end amd cpu to contend with the mid ranged c2d models.

As far as c2d and centrino, the difference is pwr consumption and performance. About 40% with some models.

I got a free laptop form work with the intel centrino chip in it.
When I first brought it home, it wouldn't connect at all.
After about a week it started connecting, and life was good.
Now it's connecting but won't receive any packets.

My girlfriend got a similar computer with the same centrino chip and hasn't had any problems with it.

I have no idea what would cause my computer to be so tempermental, but any ideas as to why this is happening and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A:Centrino Connection Problems. Please help

firewall maybe? Which Intel Pro Wireless card do you have? There are three models I believe, the 2100, 2200, and 2915. These cards all three have one common feature, power management, which is set to lowest by default, try turning it up, this uses more battery but also makes the card work better. The 2200 and 2915 also have a throughput enhancement and transmit power that can be enabled and turned up. These also increase battery consumption, but also make the card work better.

Centrino is not the wireless card, it is simply a term which intel has marketed using misinformation, centrino simply means your computer includes three components; Intel pro WLAN adapter, Intel graphics, and Intel mobile chipset. The actuasl purpose of these components are to preserve battery life, not anything to do with wireless. The marketing of this is completely wrong and has caused many issues when it comes to wifi.

Basically, the "real" meaning of the term Centrino is to make the battery last longer by reducing the performance of your video, networking and processing.

Hi Ppl,

Just want to ask around if I want to install window 7 on a old centrino notebk, can it be done as long as I am able to find the latest driver software of my notebk for W7?

FYI: My centrino notebk is on Win XP

Thanks Ppl...

A:Window 7 on a Centrino notebook

Hey undergrd,

Yeah I'd imagine so. Windows 7 in my opinion is as fast if not faster than XP so I'd say putting it on there would be a great idea. Windows 7 should be able to find all the drivers you need no problem. But don't quote me on that if you get what I mean

Let us know how it goes.

Thank God I?ve found your forum!

I hope, anyone can help me... I?ve installed Windows 7 official Beta on my old Centrino Laptop. So far this works like a charm on my old PC, fast, reliable etc.

But I have one problem: the CPU (Centrino 1,7) always runs at its full frequency of 1.7 Ghz. The fan noise is quite annoying. I already tried Notebook Hardware Control with the matching ACPI set for my Laptop (FSC Amilo 1425) but NHC can?t change the frequency. The energy options doesn?t help either - I can use whatever I want, the frequency stays at 1.7 Ghz and the fan stays noisy. Under XP the processor is reduced to 600 Mhz when not in use (even without NHC), under Windows 7 this doesn?t work. Driver installation worked perfectly, my chipset from Intel (855PM) was properly recognized.

Did I do something wrong? Or are there other drivers? Thanx in advance.

A:Windows 7 Beta & Centrino

Really I don't know what's the problem.
First thing thats bugs me, is: Can Win Vista change CPU frequency?
Second: Have u tried RMClock? Seems that NHC works for Core Duo (my T2500) but maybe it has problem with older one? You always can check

Help! I am new the arena of the laptop. I am interested in purchasing an HP laptop in the 1 - 2K price range but don't know if I should pick the amd or the intel. Can anyone help me?

A:Amd 64 X2 vs Centrino dual core

You cannot pick laptops simply on the chipsets used. You have to look at the combination of chipsets which includes CPU, WiFi chip & most of the time integrated video but also the available memory, hard drives, optical drive, etc.

Do you want raw performance or are you looking to do small tasks such as web browsing, emails, movie watching, etc. ?

Im amazed how smaller t is WOW. And seems better built, stronger with metal parts.

Its so much sleeker too and metal finish. I was told that 1.5 centrino would run at 2.8 P4 due to the 1MB cache size.

Hey there!

I have a Centrino notebook and was wondering if there was anyway I could control the clockspeed manually to control heat and mostly battery life?

Maybe, some sort of program?

A:Centrino notebook underclock?

If you have Windows XP you can change the power settings which will in turn change the CPU speed. If you have Windows 2000 you can download from Intel a program to allow the same functionality. At this link is a chart for the different Power Schemes in Windows XP. Check it out and come back if you have anymore questions. Come back even if you don't have questions and let us know of your success.

Hi I was wondering which is more powerful for a laptop/notebook. Intel Core Centrino duo processor vs. Pentium 4 with hyperthreading. I know they both have different speeds like 2300-2600 for the centrino one and pentium 4 3-3.8ghz but when I asked some coworkers which they thought is better, all said the centrino one because of the powersaving and the duo processor. However, when I search Alienware's site for laptops, the pentium 4 processor computer seems to be significantly higher in price with all other options configured the same. Why would this be if the Centrino duo processor is faster and uses less power? Which is generally a better chip? What would the
Intel Core Duo Processor T2300 1.66GHz 2MB Cache 667MHz FSB
be equivalent to in terms of a Intel Pentium 4 Processor 531 w/ HT Technology for example speed wise? I'm so confused right now. I would greatly appreciate a response! Please forgive me if it's a no brainer.

I recently purchased a new Acer laptop using Windows XP SP2. It is a centrino laptop. I can connect to wireless internet connections (hotspots) but when I try to enter webpages or get my email, it informs me I must connect with my default dial up connection. There must be some setting to prevent this from happening. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

A:Hotspot connectting with Centrino laptop

the easiest way is to open up IE and goto tools internet options...then go over to the connection tab and make sure that Always dial my default connection is not selected. you can use never or dial when connection is not present....either way. ya also need to go through the internet connection wizard if ya haven't. do the custom set up and say ur using a broadband connection and do not need username or password.

I heard they last up to 7 hours, thats amazing. But its also $600 more than a rg P4. Im still tempted to change my toshiba A70 P4 to a centrino just cause the battery life increase alone. Also its lighter and thinner too.

The only thing is mine is 2.8gig, the centrino s only 1.6. So why would I shell out more $ for a slower cpu?

2hours is kinda bad for laptop.

Hi, I new to this forum and have been searching for the the posts with internet keeps dropping off etc. My problem seems to be with the two laptops with Centrino wireless adapters. My daughter has a Dell with Centrino and was complaining that her wireless keeps dropping out and the other 3 laptops in the house had no problems, I bought a new Samsung laptop the other day and my wireless keeps dropping out on it as well. I looked at all the settings and stuff in the posts I found and noticed that I have a Centrino with advanced N6325 and remembered that my daughters dell also has a Centrino wireless, this is the only similarities that I noticed and can find no reason why I am loosing internet. Any help would be greatly appreciated, for me it is just annoying but my daughter is in Nursing school and really needs a good connection. Thank You in advanced for Your help and Happy Easter to all - John

Do you have the same problem with an ethernet connection?

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver from the laptop manufacturer's web site.

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Hi Folks,

The last computer I have purchased was about 4 years ago so I am a little behind on the technology.

I would like to purchase a Sony laptop to be used for home use, internet surfing and downloading music. It will not be used for gaming.

My question - in general is an Intel Centrino Duo Processor sufficient enough to handle this ?

( Other specs - OS Vista, 3 GB DDR2 RAM, 250 GB HD - DVD Burner.)

A:Intel Centrino Duo Processor Question

It will. It won't be the fastest possible, but it will handle general use just fine.

What is the difference between the Centrino and regular core 2 duo processors? They are both supposed to increase battery life and provide much better performance. Centrino tends to advertise that it is the ultimate mobile processor and best with wireless connectivity. Umm, but you can also connect wirelessly with a regular core 2 duo. What does the centrino have that the reg. core 2 doesn't?

Hi people,
I've come here out of desperation and discovered a wealth of knowledge.

I've been running
Cable Connection
SMC 2404WBR Wireless router
PIII 600 - win XP via network cable
PIII 1.6Ghz win XP laptop with PCMCIA wireless card (D-Link AirPLUS DWL-650+)

this has been working without problems for a long time

now there is an Acer laptop with a centrino chip that has caused problems
IE6 is extremely slow to load websites however downloads achieve 450kbps (normal). (Intel PRO 2200BG - Win XP)

whats more... since the introduction of the centrino all computers are losing the network connection randomnly and often when the centrino is connected. This happens especially when sharing files.
can anyone help me speed up the centrino's browsing speed and stop it from breaking the network connection to the entire network?

thanks people!

I last updated my Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 on May 26 to the newest driver available at the time through Intel's website. That turned out to be a mistake. It usually worked but about once a week, when waking up my computer, it would have issues connecting to my network. A Windows repair usually fixed it.

Today I woke it up and could not connect at all. Repairing did nothing. I went into Device Manager and found that it said, roughly, "There is no driver installed for this device." I first tried to rollback the driver. Device Manager froze for about ten minutes. When it started working again, I disabled and re-enabled the wireless, found my network, entered my password, but it still wouldn't connect. I used HP Recovery Manager software to reinstall the original driver.

When it was done, it prompted me to restart. After a while, I saw a BSOD labelled DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (Minidump is a separate attachment). After my computer booted up, I checked Device Manager. My wireless was disabled because of a Code 22: Windows disabled it because of a known issue. I manually enabled it and it now works fine with driver number dated 22 August 2013. It's definitely older than the May 2014 driver but not the original system installed driver, from November 2012, which seems to have caused the crash.

I'm just wondering if my computer and wireless connection will remain stable and, if not, how I should fix it.

I have Windows 8.1 on an HP m6-1158c... Read more

Hi Malickfan,

I have analyzed your dump files and below has been provided an analysis of your dump file :-

**************************Tue Jul 1 23:08:02.341 2014 (UTC + 5:30)**************************Probably caused by : ntkrnlmp.exe ( nt!PnpBugcheckPowerTimeout+6a )

BugCheck 9F, {4, 12c, ffffe001d80ef880, fffff8023d7ea950}

FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: 0x9F_4_nt!PnpBugcheckPowerTimeout

MaxSpeed: 2200

CurrentSpeed: 2195

BIOS Version F.25

BIOS Release Date 01/21/2013

Manufacturer Hewlett-Packard

Product Name HP ENVY m6 Notebook PC

Now, we see that the "ntkrnlmp.exe" is blamed, but as we know that it is a Windows component, chances of it being at fault is very less.

As it seems, that since your Wireless driver was causing the problem. It should probably work fine. The BSOD might be a one time issue. In case of further BSOD's please don't hesitate to post back here. In case you want the list of 3rd party drivers to update let me know and I will post it.

I was told about 4-5hours min, but I just finished conditioning my battery, drained it even 3x now and only getting 3hours. I have everything set to low except the cpu speed and monitor brightness is always set at high. But i have power savings like standby within 2-3mins and fans not going off often to conserve battery.

A:How long should a battery on a centrino laptop last

Centrino is just the chipset used in the machine, there are a ton of factors that go into the longevity of a laptop battery's charge. I think the estimates of battery life for most machines are generated by the marketing department, not the engineering department.
