A: Online Spyware Scanner

Hi, Guy!

I haven't used the application, but I do trust x-block. I also don't think that Mike Healen would get involved in anything second-rate.

The reason that I haven't introduced the service here is that I think recommending it is akin to "giving a man a fish".

When folks download Ad-aware, or Spybot, or both, set the configurations and run their scans, they have now been taught to do that properly. They can do it over and over again, weekly, we hope, with the only "outside" support being updates.

Also, with Spybot Free set to immunize or Ad-aware 7.0, they get some actual protection.

A ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I did so, and this is what it spit out:

Hi White Knights, Good Guys and Gals,

My PC was attacked, likely through Internet Explorer today, since I haven't downloaded anything. The following are is the list of Malware that XP Security Center has notified:

=email-worm.win32.netsky.q
=rootkit.win32.agent.pp
=backdoor.win32.kbot.al
=net-worm.win32.mytob.t
=net-worm.win32.dipnet.d
=virus.win32.hala.a
=trojan.downloader.js.multi.ca
=virus.win32.gpcode.ak

and Trojan Remover has identified
c:\windows\system32\vacinit.dll

and Mcafee
NTROSKRN... (rootkit trojan)

The program "Protection Systems" continues to pop up prompting me to buy along with random IExplorer bombs despite having removed it from programs. The system regularly freezes when I employ anti-malware programs.

I have attempted to use in normal and safe operating mode (Mcafee from safe command prompt)
=Mcafee VirusScan Enterprise (halts early in operation, Identifies NTROSKRN and 11 cookies)
=Stopzilla (Halts early in operation)
=Malwarebytes(fails to open even with changed name)
=Rooter Malware Finder (Eric_71) (operates results indeterminant)
=Trojan Remover (Runs. results indeterminant)

I am not in a good position to format the PC (in the wilderness).

Any advice what is preventing these malware programs from operating?

Thanks, and happy to repay the favor particularly if you like homebrew since PC wars arent my specialty!

hello. right this momment im scanning pc with 3 scanners (2 online and my nod32). and bitdefender online scanner found 1 virus and check at report (screnshoot i uploaded). it says: desinfection: failed and next message is deleted. virus is now deleted right? and what about desinfected failed? is it bad if desinfection fail?

A:online scanner

Hello -

Disinfection Failed indicates that whatever was found was not "curable", so it was deleted. Looks like it was an item in %temp%

Hopefully you're not scanning with all of those at the same time, as it may cause conflict and irregular results.

I got infected so I'm removing all the malicious software I can before I post a HijackThis log. I was using BitDefender, and it said it finished scanning 61314 out of 61314 objects, but then it suddenly went "overtime" and started doing an in-depth scan on C:\WINDOWS\system32 and found 1 virus (backdoor) it could not delete. Then after about 100 entries after the undeletable backdoor, BitDefender just stopped. The built-in green light loader wasn't even flashing. So... anyone have any suggestions on what to do? I'd appreciate it Notes: If it's any additional info, according to BitDefender, the backdoor is found C:\WINDOWS\system32\__c00425C6.dat and the name is Backdoor.Hupigon.6497Mod Edit:Moved from AntiVirus, Firewall and Privacy Products and Protection Methods~ TMacK

Try another Online Virus Scans.Download FileASSASSIN.zip and save to your desktop (this tool is compatible with Win 2000/NT/XP/Vista only).Create a new folder on your C:\ drive called FileASSASSIN and extract (unzip) the file to that folder. (Click here for information on how to do this if not sure. Win 9x/2000 users click here.)Open the folder and double-click on FileASSASSIN.exe.Select the following file(s) to delete by dragging it onto the text area or select it using the (...) browse button.__c00425C6.dat C:\Windows\system32\ folderSelect a removal method. Start with "Attempt FileASSASSIN's method of file removal." Click delete and the removal process will begin. If that did not work, start the program again, select the file(s) the same way as before and this time check "Use delete on reboot function from windows."Note: If you cannot find the file(s), you may have to Reconfigure Windows XP to show hidden files, folders. (We are doing this so we can look for and delete hidden files if necessary but don't delete anything other than what I ask you to delete. After your system is clean, follow the same procedure to hide these files and folders again to protect them from accidental deletion). Then download and scan with Dr.Web CureIt. Follow the instructions here for performing a scan in "Safe Mode".

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know of an online virus scanner that does not use Java?

I have noticed on this forum that a lot of people whose installed virus protection does not find any infection have infections picked up by the online scanners. Since I am a little curious about that I would like to check some out but they all seem to require Java which I do not have and prefer not to install.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi. Is there a reliable online web and network security scanner that you can recommend? We don't have any plan yet to get a service provider since we we're not able to include it in this year's budget....so, we're only considering a free online software for the meantime. Feel free to suggest also a good software in case you know any. Perhaps, we could include this in our 2017 budget. Thanks.

I am running eset online scanner right now and boy is it finding some stuff. Much of it MBAM has already removed.
I think I will have to run Rkill next.  All of this just to be shure I get a clean uninstall of MBAM and a reinstall of pro. lol

ESET Online Scanner is one of longest scan. Also, what's the point of running RKill after? RKill is supposed to be ran before you ran malware removal scans, in case a malicious process prevents you from launching them.

I was reading a thread about a similar problem I am having with my computer and a browser hijacker. One of the steps, after running MBAM was to run the Kapersky Online Scanner. I have done that, however, I am a bit confused as to what to do with the results. Does the online scanner automatically remove the infections it found, or do I have to manually do it, or am I missing something else all together? I did save the report, and it shows 7 threats and 8 infections. What do I do now?

Thanks!

A:Kapersky Online Scanner

Kaspersky on line scanner doesn't remove any findings.
You have to do it manually.

I was trying to remove my myspace account and this page came up telling me my computer is infected with several viruses.

The page displays like and open Windows file listing the My Documents and Shared Documents folders and the Hard Drive saying that there are 3 infections in the Shared Documents and 6 in the My Documents.

At the bottom of the page is a box displaying the infections. The box is titled "Your Computer is Infected" and is a brownish color. It has a scroll bar on the left and titled columns, left to right, Name, Type and Threat Level. The viruses listed are:
Trojan.Qoologic - Key Logger
Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Small.fxf
W95/Elkern F - Secure
Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Tibs.tc
Trojan Horse Generic11.OQJ
Trojan virtumonde
Win32/Hoax.Renos.HX
Magic DVD Ripper
Trojan Horse IRC/Backdoor.SdBot4.FRV

I don't know if My Windows Oline Scanner is legitimate, I don't recall ever using it. This just popped up while I was trying to remove my myspace account. The page is to download files and is blocked at the moment. My OS is Windows xp.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

What Browser are you using?

Most online scanners require IE. Probably at least vers. 7 if not 8.

Sounds too like a possible script error. Have never used F-Secure`s but most need active X which is native to IE.

I imaging if you suspect an infection that that could be blocking all\part of it too.

Basically, I have employees that work from home that use routers. We do not support routers. So I'm looking for a free online website that can basically do a scan to see what ports are blocked. They use programs like outlook(port 80) and an ATT vpn client(port 443).

Any ideas?

Yes, I was just curious if using the Eset online scanner was safe? I think I may still have a virus on my computer. Even though I have run Malwarebytes and it found nothing. I ran my Avast free and it found a few things. I was going to try Eset online scanner to see if it could pick up something Malwarebytes and Avast could not. I trust Malwarebytes bigtime. If Malwarebytes does not find anything, then could I still be infected?

Do Online Virus Scanners work well? Are they better than NORTON and other program virus scanners? Could I use online virus scanners alone and not use Norton? Thanks.

A:Online Virus Scanner

Hi, Online scanners have a definite use but you must have a resident antivirus program these days on any computer that works on the Internet.
Online scanners are about as good in removal and detection and often are updated more than we keep our installed programs updated. One problem is how the online scan performs when your computer is slowed down by worms or other junk....the scans may take forever.
Panda online scanner right now is working very slow, and searching every file on your computer, but it did not in the past- Housecall by Trend used to only search part of the system, but it also searches a lot more now than it used to.
The amount of people using any give online scanner can affect how it runs. Some people recently have reported that some scanners are simply not available at times.

I use a lot of these online scans from time to time as trials...since I work with people who need to use them.
There can be a difference in what type of infections they find, so not any one should be depended on.
Neither should any one installed resident antivirus program> none of them catch everything, but some come very close.
Updating your operating system is crucial also> if you use Internet Explorer for instance you need to keep up with Windows Updates to patch holes that are exploited by Microsoft attackers. If you are using Win XP you will be getting Service Pack 2 soon and will have some advantage since it will work along with your A/V program and beef up the built in fir... Read more

I run Secunia Online Scanner and after a thorough scan, it comes up with this under Programs/Results:

Quote:

Adobe Flash Player 11.x

11.1.102.55 (NPAPI)

This installation of Adobe Flash Player 11.x is insecure and potentially exposes your system to security threats!

The detected version installed on your system is 11.1.102.55 (NPAPI), however, the latest patched version released by the vendor, fixing one or more vulnerabilities, is 11.1.102.62 (NPAPI).

Update Instructions:
Download

Installed on Your System in:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\17.0.963.46\gcswf32.dll

I downloaded it (and it was successful) but when I run the full scan again, it comes up with the same problem. How can I go about getting it fixed?

My Google Chrome is up to date, and yet when I run it again and download it again, it still has that problem.

And this time I ran it under Google Chrome, which is up to date.

We launched a tool that I think it should be in everyone should use it when in doubt of your computer security. It scans for keyloggers, rootkits and all the nasty malware outhere. If it doesn't know it, the next second it will be sent for analyzing. BitDefender QuickScan combines intelligent local scanning and in-the-cloud scanning to create an advanced online tool which detects e-threats in memory quickly. So we invite each and every one of you to try this little tool online at: http://qscan.bitdefender.com Hope you enjoy it and also don't forget to drop us some feedback.

A:QScan in-the-cloud online scanner

Bitdefender Quickscan is still in it's beta form. This beta version no longer has the engines downloaded, with any updates in tow, onto the scanned computer. The scanning engines are now left on BitDefender servers, with the local component sending only the relevant bits of suspicious files for analysis. We hope to achieve significant speedups over the traditional solutions," explained Bogdan Dumitru, BitDefender CTO.You can read about it Here

ESET, the leader in proactive threat protection, today announced availability of a new, powerful online scanning service. Powered by award-winning ESET NOD32 Antivirus software, the ESET Online Scanner is a free Web-based service that allows users to scan and disinfect systems, hard disks, compressed files and email -- without uninstalling their existing antivirus solution. With the ESET Online Scanner, non-ESET users can identify hidden threats, get a ?second opinion? on the health status of their computers, and determine the strength of their current malware solution.http://www.en.nod32.ch/company/article.php?contentID=1392

I've been trying to find out the source of the FlashPlayer.exe popup on my system, so I've tried to run the ESET online scanner. It found some non-critical things, but as ESET continued to scan, the ESET screen disappeared. The outline remains, but there's no text. I stopped it a couple of times before, but I just now let it run about six hours. It shows CPU usage in Task Manager, but it never refreshes the screen. I had to end it in Task Manager again. The system is Windows 7 on an i7 with 16 GB memory. Do you have any idea what the problem might be?

A:ESET Online Scanner Problem

Some online scanners will detect existing anti-virus software and refuse to cooperate. In some cases you may have to disable the real-time protection components of your existing anti-virus if you encounter a problem and try running the scan again.ESET Online Scanner FAQs #5If you have other antivirus, antispyware or anti-malware programs running on your computer, they may intercept the scan being performed by the ESET Online Scanner and hinder performance. You may wish to disable the real-time protection components of your other security software before running the ESET Online Scanner. Remember to turn them back on after you are finished.

could someone explain the difference between online and on broad virus scanner, whicn one is better

A:onboard or online virus scanner?

On board would mean you have it installed on your PC, and you have much quicker virus detection then you would if you kept scanning will an online virus scanner. You simply just update it if its onboard, and run it. With Online, you have to keep going to the website, and scanning. I would suggest on board (installed on your computer) virus scanner, much quicker to react, since it usually auto-detects it, Online virus scanners, don't detect immediatly because they only run when you go online and scan. On board usually stays on, and protects all the time.

If you need some programs for anti-virus, look in my Guide To Internet Security, link below in my signature.

I'm getting ready to add 2 more computers to my network, but before I do it I want to make sure everything is clean.  I've ran all of my computers with Norton Anti-Virus (full scan), ESET Online Scanner, and MBAM (quick and full scans) and found nothing.  Is there another product out there that the expertson Bleeping Computer recommend will give me 100% assurance my entire network is clean? I also have Spyware Blaster installed on both of my computers as well.

We recently had our credit card get compromised and my network is constantly having inconsistent download speeds (Comcast says nothing is wrong).  I just want to make sure nothing is deeply rooted in my network (kids downloading stuff) that cannot be detected by the products I'm using. I have even thought about rebuilding the OS all of my computers and resetting my router back to factory defaults just to make sure, but that is a PITA and I think I'm going overboard.  I just think you cannot be too safe right now with your PI.

Any guidance and ideas you have would be greatly appreciated.

There are so many issues caused by viruses lately that I thought it would be helpful to create a thread just for posting a link to an online virus scanner. It's essential for those of you who don't have one on your computer, and if you do, it's nice to get a "second opinion" sometimes.

When things start acting strange on your computer, one of the things you should do is follow the link below, and see if you've been hit with a virus. If you find one, clean it out and see if that helps (someone here will help you with the cleaning if you're not sure how to go about it). Knowing whether you have a virus or not goes a long way toward resolving issues.
Here's the link:
http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
I can't take credit for finding this free service. It was suggested to me in one of the posts here, and I found it very helpful along with my installed AV program in finding and cleaning out the klez virus earlier this month.

A big THANK YOU to whoever posted the link in the first place, and another big chunk of gratitude to all those at TSG who take the time to listen, research and help all of us everyday. I joined in February, and am now addicted, coming here everyday to 'give back' by helping others, and picking up new tips and fixes from everyone else.

A:Free Online Virus Scanner

This thread is a good idea CD.

Maybe, there should be a permanent post of say three URL's for this purpose on the Security Forum page.

I use Housecalls from time to time for reassurance. (I have AVG6 Free edition installed.)

Another on line site I have used is Symantec's:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/

Click on "Free Online Virus and Security Check" under Virus Definitions.

(However, it does give one pause to note that, as of today, the last revised date is April 8th. Does that mean that recent hot viruses such as KLEZ may not be included or up to date? Maybe, someone else knows the answer.)

Hello all,

I?m sure someone will mention that this support request should be posted in a different category, but it doesn?t seem to fit in any other category.

I recently borrowed a friend?s iPhone 5 and used a cool app called ?SCAN?. It detects and reads different barcodes (including QR Codes). I scanned a QR Code using the the device's camera, and the app brought me directly to the webpage!

I was wondering if there is such a scanner for Windows? I am running XP Pro (SP3) x86 IE8.

Ideally, I?d like to locate an online based reader that can load a webpage from a QR Code (*USING A WEBCAM). Specifically, a standalone online tool; meaning that no installation is required.

It seems to me that QR Codes are becoming more and more popular because of the vast amount of information they can store, but I have been unable to locate any good IE browser based online scanners.

Am I wrong to think they?re out there somewhere?

Hi! Trend Micro and Panda's online scanners (as much as we love and thank them ) sure make a lot of entries on one's computer, from Program Files to registry. It seems to me that when one goes to do a scan, the Trend site at least gives a message as it downloads what you need that it may take longer if you've never done a scan there before, or something like that. But I'll be darned if any scanner component downloads have ever taken less time the next time I go back, as a reward for not removing all the stuff they leave behind.

So, is there really any benefit at all to leaving Panda and Trend's online scanner tools intact afterwards? (After I am also satisfied that I am done with any logs they generated.) I know they are harmless obviously and maybe not even that big, but I like to keep things tidy and remove whatever isn't serving a purpose anymore, including from my registry. (Was SHOCKED to read recently about exactly how many registry thingys/entries/changes Trend adds/makes... looks like it's in the hundreds altogether! Much of it perhaps denoted by gibberish that would be hard to seek out thoroughly, but there was a list of stuff in the post I saw.)

Thanks!

I haven't had any concerns till just recently after receiving 3 separate emails with no name or address on them in MS Office Outlook. When received, I deleted them without opening and added them to the block senders list. Out of curiosity I decided to try running a Kaspersky Online scan (maybe this was a mistake?) and it tells me I have one "Suspicious: Trojan-Spy.HTML.Fraud.gen" and four "Infected: not-a-virus:PSWTool.Win32.RAS.a" all in Outlook pst. Other then the lexmark printer giving me the usual grief of not scanning more than 1 or 2 pictures before freezing and an occasional "not being able to log off" my user account after the scanner freezes I really haven't noticed any problems. Can anyone help with these items listed from the Kaspersky scan?

I hope I have done all the necessary steps to receive help, they have helped some, but not totally. In the step where I am supposed to remove possible harmful programs, I have a program called "Kaspersky Online Scanner" that will not remove (it tells me to stop IE, but when I do, it still won't let me remove it.)

The wallpaper on my computer kept changing back to a warning about my computer being infected, but the panda scan stopped that. The popups to many a pornographic websites have also slowed. Now I am just getting a warning from a seemingly fake windows icon that my computer is infected, and clicking on it takes me to a place to buy anti-spy software.

I removed a cracked program (Mediamonkey) I believe that was all i had.

Thank you in advance for any help/insight...I think I attached what i was supposed to. If any more information is needed please let me know when you can. Thanks.

I can't find any info about the type of virus, Malware, etc.

I used to use Kaspersky online scanner on a regular basis, but I've been getting a weird warning about their security certificate lately. It says there's some "error in initializer", or something like that. Unsure, I canceled the download, after which my browser completely froze. Said it was running in Task Manager, but nothing moved.

I'd like to use Kaspersky again, because I understand they're the most reliable in finding viruses. I currently have Symantec, which found a trojan (bloodhound.pdf), and quarantined it, but I don't trust Symantec so would like to get a second opinion, so to speak, and make sure that my computer really is clean.

Anyone know what's going on? Thanx.

A:Kaspersky Online Scanner security certificate?

I would think that error is just a transmission error while downloading the antivirus program. If you can verify that you are going to the correct URL for Kaspersky then you should be fine.

Helsinki, Finland ? April 4, 2013: F-Secure's free Online Scanner tool has been completely rebuilt to be faster, lighter and more powerful than before, and now even cleans up advanced rootkits, the most difficult-to-remove malware. The tool, downsized to a slim 5MB, is easy to use with just a couple of clicks. It cleans without actually installing itself to the PC ? so consumers can run it and then forget about it.Click to expand...

A:Free F-Secure Online Scanner Gets to the Root of it

I have tried this on-demand scanners a few times, and F-Secure database is very good, so it will find malware.
I've notice that this new version, it did not ask me to restart my computer before starting the scan, and also the scan times have been reduced.
Overall this product looks very good, however I would have liked to see a standard on-demand scanner rather than an online scanner.

This question pertains to F-Secure Online Scanner, IE (v6.0), & Admin. Rights.

I use Firefox, but dusted off Internet Explorer 6.0 in order to use F-Secure Online Scanner (http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/). However, I ran into the problem listed below & need a solution.

After d/l the program, at the license agreement, this notice pops-up: "Insufficient rights to use ActiveX controls. Please check your user rights & IE security setting.? Site might require ActiveX controls ?OLS 3.3?

So, I right click on the IE icon, click ?run as?? and get two choices:

Run as current user xxxx/rick, or

following user with a drop down choice showing my name.

I see no admin. rights.

Solution?

Thanks!

~ Diff ~

A:F-secure Online Scanner & Ie Admin. Rights

Hello Diff and welcome to BC

You wouldn't see the user rights in that drop down menu.

From what you've posted, I assume you have two user accounts on the machine. Is that right?

When you created these accounts, did you set them up as limited accounts or as accounts with administrative rights?

The other thing is the settings in IE. Open the browser and click on Internet Options. Click on the security screen and then click on Internet Zone. Scroll down to see the settings under Active X. Basically, anything unsigned or considered unsafe should be blocked. I personally set the rest to prompt.

Having problems running Kaspersky Online Scanner, keeps saying i need Java version 1.5 or later. Ive tried a couple of the older downloads but there not labeled the same as what the Kaspersky website is calling it. Need help figuring out which version to download!!!

A:Problem running Kaspersky Online Scanner

Hello and welcome.. I am moving this to the Am I Infected forum for the scan results..Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to exploit and infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6 and save it to your desktop.Look for "Java Runtime Environment (JRE)" JRE 6 Update 13.Click the Download button to the right.Select your Platform: "Windows".Select your Language: "Multi-language".Read the License Agreement, and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".Click Continue and the page will refresh.Under Required Files, check the box for Windows Offline Installation, click the link below it and save the file to your desktop.Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.Click the Remove or Change/Remove button and follow the onscreen instructions for the Java uninstaller.Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u13-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.-- If using Windows Vista and the installer refuses to launch due to insufficient user permissio... I scanned my laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium) with the Bitdefender Online Scanner. Here are the scan results:

[Scan Results]
Line00000002 = "C:\Windows\Installer\12bc2.msi=>(Embedded CAB)=>DDNIOOBE.VBS Infected with: Trojan.Script.424420"
Line00000001 = "C:\Windows\Installer\12bc2.msi=>(Embedded CAB)=>DDNIOOBE.VBS Disinfection failed"
Line00000000 = "C:\Windows\Installer\12bc2.msi=>(Embedded CAB)=>DDNIOOBE.VBS Delete failed"

I had previously scanned the computer with Avira Personal AV, SuperAntispyware, Malwarebytes, Emisoft Malware and the Eset Online Scanner and nothing had shown up.

Because none of the other scans showed any problem could it be possible this is a false positive? If not how do I proceed? Thanks for the help!

A:Bitdefender Online Scanner found Trojan

If no other scans are detecting anything malicious, it could be a false positive detection of the embedded .vbs script. If you suspect a detection was a "false positive", then you should open an email ticket with BitDefender and submit a sample or report it to BitDefender > False Positive Reporting so the Research Team can investigate and make corrections.

Hello everyone!
I'm helping out a friend with her laptop and ran an Avast scan, it found ~52 infections including a Trj. I wanted to make sure the system was clean and tried to install Malwarebytes but I couldn't, it says

"Runtime error (92:100). Could not call proc."

Then I tried to run ESET Online Scanner but it can't be downloaded.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

A:Can't install Malwarebytes nor run ESET online scanner

UPDATE

I ran Adwcleaner and it found a lot of stuff to be removed and I can install MBAM now! :D

Hello!

My DD told me that there was some kind of virus alert on our computer. I took a look and it looks like those pop ups when you go to a "bad" site and a window pops up that says YOUR COMPUTER IS INFECTED, click to run scan now. I couldn't quite get from her what she did when the window popped up but is causing all types of errors on computer. Couldn't run virus scan, it was saying wacult.exe was infected, couldn't open task manager. Everytime I tried to do something it said that file was infected and click to scan now. I said no to all of these.

Same thing happened on reboot, but I did notice that if I could start my virus scan (McAfee) quick it would run. I also noticed a vlxgsysguard.exe that was in startup and task manager. I disabled through msconfig and also ended process through task manager.

I don't know if this is that problem but I did see that this file was added today at 3:10. Seems like this is the problem, but Hey, I'm no expert and that is why I am here!

Hope you can help me fix this so I don't have to ground my DD for LIFE!

A:Infected by online scanner? vlxgsysguard.exe I think is problem.

Hi there,

First off I got an email from Twitter (which was legitimate) saying they reset my password as my account may have been compromised. Others also got this email http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=4716169 )

I reset my password by going to the Twitter site and not through the link in the email and I havent been on my twitter for a while, I saw no tweets that I didn't make and I have disabled all apps on my Twitter account so I am not so worried about that aspect and am hoping Twitter has been over precautions (which is always good!).

Now after this I ran MBAM and Avast 8 Free and both came up clean. I also like to run ESET online scanner (as I know you guys recommend it) however when I went to run it last night it said a proxy error and that it couldn't download the database. I rebooted and tried again to no avail. This got me thinking I could have malware and so here I am.

However I tried ESET again today after work and it is running! (as we speak) I would however be really grateful if someone could run through the process of checking my PC is clean as I always like to make sure it is secure (especially seen as though I don't know why Twitter thought my account was compromised!)

My PC Spec:

Windows 8 64Bit with Media Centre
Intel Core i7-2630QM

Ive had this fresh install running around a month and have yet to put on all of my files (which I have stored on another PC) and so the scan... Read more

I was running ESET Online scanner today when it told me that I had some Anti Virus software running which could hinder the performance and quality of the scan. I clicked on the list and it told me that Windows Defender was the only thing running. This confuses me for two reasons:

1. Windows Defender is turned off
2. I am running AVG Free and that did not show up?

Why on earth would it detect a program I'm not using and not detect a program I am using?
Thanks for your help.

A:ESET Online Scanner detected something that I dont have turned on?

Other anti-virus and anti-spyware progams running on your computer can interfere with the scan. As such ESET notifies you so they can be disabled first. If you have other anti-virus, anti-spyware or anti-malware programs running on your computer, they may intercept the scan being performed by the ESET Online Scanner and slow it down. You may wish to disable the real-time protection components of your other security software before running the ESET Online Scanner. Remember to turn them back on after you are finished!ESET Online Scanner FAQsIf ESET did not recognize the existing security programs properly, that is a question better asked of Eset Support so they can investigate and answer.Contact Technical Support & submit questionESET Customer Care

I downloaded Kaspersky Online Scanner and scanned my files, now I want to scan everything else but I cant't find the file. The only place I see it is in the Add and Remove file.

Anybody know how to access this file?

It took a long time to download.

Thanks

If Kapersky acts like Panda, then what you downloaded was an activeX module and can be only used while online connected to their site.

I'm a bit unsure exactly where to put this, but as it got to do with a program, I'll try here.

At this computer, I've been unable to run Bit Defender Online Scanner. I can select what parts I want to scan, but when clicking on Settings (which determines, among other things, what to do with infected files), I get an error message saying "Could not load the scan options. Please contact BitDefender support team." When I click to scan, it fails to download the latest definitions, and warns that any scan result will probably be inaccurate.

Why this!?

Hello conky Welcome to the BC HijackThis Log and Analysis forum. I'm running Windows 8 PC and need to set it up properly to avoid viruses in the future.

First, Thank you so much for taking the time to help me! I really appreciate it! Below are the logs you requested - I tried to follow the instructions in th Preparation guide. The problems my computer is having is: Windows Installer won't work. Whenever I try installing or uninstalling anything that requires it, I get an error 1601 Windows is in safe mode or the service cannot be found. I tried setting the service to automatic, and reinstalling windows installer from the Microsoft site but it didn't work. Then I scanned with Kaspersky and it found something. Can it be related? Anyway here are the logs.

To choose the products included in this test, we used the finalists of our Digital Citizen Awards 2016 - The best Windows security product of the year!. The products we ended up including in this comparison are, alphabetically ordered, the following: Bitdefender QuickScan, Comodo Cloud Antivirus, ESET Online Scanner, F-Secure Online Scanner, Kaspersky Security Scan, McAfee Security Scan Plus, Norton Security Scan, Panda Cloud Cleaner and Trend Micro HouseCall.

Hello! I hope someone can help me ...
I think I am infected with some sneaky malware o_O

I am running Windows XP home edition.
Service pack 3 + all current updates.
Full Anti-Virus+ all up to date (Avast-Pro, Ad-Aware, Malwarebytes for scans).

I have been doing full scans and boot scans.
I installed java last night and did Kaspersky's online full scan(had to restart it because of a signature error)
All of these say I am fine (no infections found to date).

However I downloaded sandboxie recently and went to install it yesterday.
I noticed it didn't have a digital signature and had a few extra tabs in it's properties.
So I downloaded another copy and the new one looked different slightly.
The new one did not have a digital signature either so I uploaded it to virustotal and got the hashes which were correct.
I tried to do the same to the older copy and I got an error of 0 bytes recieved.
I tried a few more times and also tried jotti.org's scanner and never could get it to upload.
Checking many other files(a few wouldn't upload although fresh copies would) I got a hit on Launcher1.exe (for Disney's PotCo) with AVG scan at Jotti.org
It was labeled SHeur2.APPL. However searching AVG's site found no results for this.
Searching the web only showed one result (which was a porn link that I didn't click).
I also have some very peculiar things going on:
1. In TCPView I do a whois on some connections and get an error that states:

A few weeks ago I started to get a rootkit warning from AVG scans. I've been through Malware removal and they can't find anything.

The file/s are C:\INSTB32.SYS and the same file in C:\Windows\Temp
Removing them does not remove them as they reappear on restart.

Since I can only find others with the same question as me online, and the answers they get are ambiguous, On the off chance I emailed Spybot S&D even though it wasn't alerting to the program.
Spybot said;
"The file is not bad.
INST32.SYS and INST32B.SYS occur often after installation of Kaspersky 8
(initial or reinstallation of later variant) _and_ reinstallation of
Broadcom Bluetooth connectivity software linked to a Motorola phone.
Other people have reported the phenomenon involving Kaspersky. Thinkpad
computers also contain these files."

I don't have broadcom bluetooth and I've never had bluetooth turned on.
This file is new to me the last few weeks and I am pretty sure I downloaded Kaspersky after I got it but just on the off chance I want to remove Kaspersky completely to be sure.
I've removed ESET online scanner, and all bluetooth items.

Hello!

I need help with cleaning my computer please.

The following Logs are: HJT, DDS and GMER. (Please see below for problem w/ GMER).

It is a Toshiba Satellite Laptop running XP Home Edition SP2. I have uninstalled as much software as I can, including Firewall and AV software. It is not connected to the internet now.

I began by removing the Hard Disk and used it as an external drive to scan and clean. This found a lot of the infections.

The sequence of scan was:

ClamXav on a MAC, then,
On a Windows 7 VM, Freeware Editions of:
Avast, Avira, Kaspersky (Trial Edition), MBAM, Microsoft Safety Scanner, SAS, Sophos, TDSSKiller, Windows Defender and Malicious Software Removal Tool (April 12 release)

The above found numerous Trojans and three Rootkits: DC.Heuristics, MBR\\.\Physical Drive0 and Win32.TDSS.tld4.

Windows Live OneCare Online scanner (Service Discontinued 4/11) found Trojan: DOS/Alureon.A. This was the Only tool to find this particular infection.

The HD is now reinstalled in the Laptop and I have run HJT, DDS and GMER and am transferring Log Data via USB Drive.

After the Boot Sequence, IE opens without being selected. I had noticed when my Firewall was active and the computer was connected to the Internet, an "https" connection was being requested, but it was too quick to get the address.

I have used DEFOGGER to disable the CD Emulation.

I don't think I am running any Script Blockers, but don't know how to tell.

Hi,

My problem started when Norton System Works found a Trojan on my system. The trojan was "Backdoor.trojan". Norton was unable to Fix, Quarantine or delete the infected file, C:\Windows|System32\winwrly32.dll. I was also unable to manually delete the file. I took advice from a friend in the know who pointed me at Grisoft - AVG Antispyware. I downloaded and ran the antispyware with no luck detecting and deleting the winwrly32.dll file but quite a few problems where highlighted and subsequently fixed by the new application. The use of the avg application led me to the TechGuy site where i was able to follow a similar problem from another forum member. I downloaded and ran HJT and VundoFix. More infections were subsequently fixed and i was able to delete the winwrly32.dll file with the delete on reboot function. I then ran VundoFix again which ran clean. As a further precaution i downloaded and ran Kaspersky which highlighted further infections. I have posted, as attachments, the results of the latest HJT log file together with the VundoFix log and the Kaspersky log. Could I please get some guidance on whether system requires further attention or have i sorted things and the indicated infections are those that have already been dealt with?

F-Secure rebuilds free Online Scanner tool : on net-security.org : http://www.net-security.org/secworld.php?id=14700

F-Secure?s free Online Scanner tool has been completely rebuilt to be faster, lighter and more powerful than before, and now even cleans up advanced rootkits, the most difficult-to-remove malware.

The tool, downsized to a slim 5MB, is easy to use with just a couple of clicks. It cleans without actually installing itself to the PC ? so consumers can run it and then forget about it. ..

Removes viruses + rootkits

Advanced rootkits boot up before the operating system itself boots up, making them extremely difficult to detect. Two of the biggest and fastest-growing botnets, TDL and ZeroAccess, use rootkit techniques to aid its spread. ZeroAccess racked up millions of infections globally in 2012, with up to 140,000 unique IPs in the US and Europe, according to F-Secure?s Threat Report H2 2012.

Rootkit removal can be complex and time consuming, often requiring the user to create a separate CD or flash drive and to spend time calling customer support. With F-Secure Online Scanner there?s no need for CDs, thanks to its new DeepClean, a Linux-based operating system that specializes in rootkit removals. When Online Scanner detects a rootkit, it boots the machine into DeepClean, which removes the malware. After the removal DeepClean boots the machine back into Windows. All this is done automatically without any user actions.
