egdhtml-1030.dll error+rundll32.exe*logfile inc.*

Q: egdhtml-1030.dll error+rundll32.exe*logfile inc.*

hi!

hello, first off i have scanned with adaware pro se, spybot, and h2, also mcafee antivirus and a couple of online scanners--this is what remains

i have some pesky files burrowed into my pooter, i am pretty sure the files in the temp folder are bad....but when i search for the executable, all i can find are prefetch files....i think the prefetch files are generating the temp files...

i have used msconfig to stop some files from statring, and that has stopped an error screen that displayed this message at start up everytime:

rundll egdhtml-1030 dll error

i reactivated them in msconfig for this logfile...

also- whenever i turn on the computer, it frezzes up after booting to windows, i found that killing all the rundll32.exe files make it able to run again!!!!!!

so they must be bad, too...

here is my log, thank you very much for any help!!

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Download AboutBuster and unzip it to a folder on your the Desktop. Do not run it yet.

Download WinsockFix and unzip it. Then double-click on it to run it.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link don't work) and install it. Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Messenger Plus! 3

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

Run AboutBuster and follow the prompts to scan (choose Yes/OK for all). It will ask you if you want a second scan, choose Yes. Save the log file and post it here.

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\stjjqgfr.exe
C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3\
C:\WINDOWS\alchem.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\rrpmdlk.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\saqpwu.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mshtml.exe

stlb2.dll
E6F1873B.DLL
D0CE0C16B1

Run CleanUp! again.

Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

Hi, I have read and completed all 5steps that I was required to read and complete before posting my log. Below is the ComboScan log as required the Supplementry log has dissapeared from my tray? I can run the scan again if this is essential.

I get this error: "RUNDLL32.EXE-3B866543.pf is invalid or corrupt and cannot be read, please run CHKDSK utility" which is what I need to fix!

Thanks alot for your help in advance, it's greatly appreiciated.

P.S I have a problem running CHKDSK utility for some reason (which is why I cannot just run CHKDSK and fix it)? Confuses me even further. It freezes and then the screen goes blank when the CHKDSK utility reaches 6%

I am totally obsessed with downloading music, but awhile ago I attemped to download an upgrade to the basic Kazaa system. Once I had fully downloaded the upgrade I went to click on Kazaa and a message popped up saying," You have uninstalled a part of Kazaa needed to run and to close and reinstall." (I believe it was called error 1030, I'm not positive though) Anyway, I uninstalled Kazaa and reinstalled several times and the same message keeps appearing.I checked to make sure I had all the needed componets to run Kazaa aswell. I can't figure out what to do. I tried other music sources but I can't find one I like as much as Kazaa. If you know what I should do please HELP!!

A:Kazaa Error 1030, any adivse?

What I would do is:

1. Use a spyware scanner to delete all the spyware that comes with the Kazaa download
2. uninstall Kazaa using the JV16 power tool
3. Do a file search for Kazaa and delete all of the files that are found.
4. Backup the registry
5. Use Jv16 power tool to clean the registry.
6. If you want to and are brave enough, do a manual search for useless Kazaa keys in the registry (be sure to have a backup if you do this)
Reinstall the latest Kazzaa with all of its Spyware. (Perhaps you might want to try Kazaa Lite)

I can not open anything not even my control panel anything I click I get rundll32 error or rundll32 not found, next I get a box that says what program would you like to open this (program or exe name) with. With a list of programs to choose from. This happens when I click on anything and control panel will open but I can not click on anything in the control panel. This started with XP ANTISPYWARE 2010 which I used my hijack this and malware bytes to remove but once My computer booted back up I started to have the problems stated above. I can click on iexplorer and open it with the iexplorer program from the list but is there anyway to get my computer back like it was without loosing my music and pics? I do not have a back up disk, a startup disk or restore disk. When I go online to look up the instructions or something that may help I can not print off the instructions because my computer has deleted my printer. Please help it has been 5 days of misery and suffering I am highly irritated with this (my) bleeping computer.

Hello,

I sent my computer in for repairs a while back and now the wireless card won't work. It can't find any signals unless I plug in the one from my desktop. I went to computer/properties/device manager and saw that the wireless card (Intel (R) Centrino (R) Wireless-N 1030) has a yellow "!" next to it. The properties tab says, "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)".

I have tried searching for new drivers automatically but it says they are up to date. I downloaded the latest drivers directly from Intel and tried to manually update them but it said that the drivers are up to date again. This problem occurs whenever I update my computer. I did a system restore and it worked fine for about a month, but once it updated it did the same thing again. There is no restore point to go to this time, so I'm stuck.

Anyone know what I should do?

Thanks

I seem to have somehow contracted a virus that is giving me the following problems:

? Constant pop-ups from Internet Explorer;
? Rundll32.exe application error whenever I try to click on any of the icons in control panel;
? I am unable to download or install any windows updates, it won?t let me open my security centre or update from the Microsoft site;
? Whenever I try to log onto the computer I get a userinit.exe error and all that comes up is my background, it doesn?t seem to open Explorer at all. I have been able to access Explorer through the task manager though.

I followed all your steps, but was unable to complete step one due to not being able to access anything through control panel. I was also unable to update Windows fully due to the abovementioned problem.

I was also having problems running HiJack This through Deckards so I ran it separately.

Here is all the other info you require:

Greetings,  I was wondering what to look for if I wanted to upgrade my 320-1030  in terms of a motherboard and CPU? I was contemplating upgrading the CPU to an A8-3820 on the existing board, but I now am wondering if it is possible to move to a faster CPU (which I am assuming would require a new motherboard  if that is possible).

Ok, so last night my husband says he can't get into his itunes. When you click on the icon it was saying it couldn't find the file path and that you might not have permission to open it but if you go into the actual file folder you can open it. I checked to make sure that he was set up as an administrator and he is. So I logged off and went onto my account to see if I could get on itunes...i can no problem. So I stayed in my account and ran the malwarebytes scan. Picked up a couple of trojans and got rid of them. Restarted, logged back into his account and this is when the rundll32.exe errros started. Now he cannot get into anything. Everytime you click on a program you either get "application not found" or the "open with" window pops up. I can't run malwarebytes on his accont. Any ideas? I just find it strange that this is only effecting his account.

Thank you,

J.P.

Hello jt9435

Even though you have checked for malware, this could still be a malware issue.

Try the following and if it does not help I think you still have malware. In that case post back for more help

So, let`s try replacing rundll32.exe first

Put your XP installation CD in the drive and cancel it if it boots up.
Start/Run and type in
cmd
OK

At the command prompt type
expand d:\i386\ rundll32.ex_ c:\windows\system32\ rundll32.exe
ENTER

NOTES:
d: is drive letter for your optical drive. Your drive letter may be different.
Be sure to include _ (underscore symbol) in rundll32 .ex_
Put one space between _ and c:\windows\

hi,

Been having this error for a very very long time..

Windows cannot find 'C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

Comes up whenever I try to run things from control panel, such as the system clock, mouse, keyboard.

My laptop was previously infected with a virus, and I think my it has been removed because it was infected. Vista was preinstalled so I don't have an installation disk.

Can anyone help me solve this problem? Thanks

Tried sfc/scannow, didnt work.. Please advise..

I started getting the rundll32 error a few days ago, but now its stopped happening. I opened the rundll32 file in notepad and theres some 'xxxpaddingxxxpadding' stuff in there i dont know what that means. anyway the result of this is that my internet can now only open really simple text based pages like wikipedia, anything like youtube or grooveshark it cant do. i get the aw snap message on chrome. on firefox it cant open anything at all, it works like normal for about 60 seconds then crashes. also everytime i open microsoft word i get a norton antivirus message saying that my virus definitions are not valid. oh and also a few days ago my laptop crashed and i had to do a system revert to a previously safe stage thingy. sorry i know this message is a bit garbled and longwinded but i couldnt find solutions anywhere. all the things about rundll32 didnt seem to work for me. any ideas guys? thanks

When you startup your computer, it tries to load all of the selective startup services and programs as well.

I've had this problem with my old HP pavilion desktop and it leads to a program that is trying to be started, but is corrupt and officially cannot.

Try msconfig, from the run command or search bar (in vista) and browse the startup tab for any programs that are trying to start at boot.

You can also look at the event viewer in the administrative tools in the control panel.

I tried running hijackthis but not luck either

Can you please advise other methods to fix this

An error window kept popping up every time I opened my laptop's lid titled "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" and saying there was an error with this file:

C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe

I've tried several things to fix this--I had recently installed "Adaware" by Lavasoft, so I tried uninstalling that--didn't fix the issue; I updated my NVIDIA graphics driver via HP--didn't work; I've tried updating other drivers, but those haven't worked either.

I have an HP Pavilion Notebook w/Windows Vista Home Premium 32

Hi, I have just started university and had managed to get my laptop plugged into and working on the universities network.. However..

This morning whilst browsing the web with firefox my laptop froze, this had happened a few times before so i turned it off, turned it on again choosing the option start windows normally. After logging in however i get error messages that programs like iTunes, AVG, Java, MSN live messenger etc are not responding behind all these error messages is another error message saying roughly the following;

" There is a rundll32.exe error which has resulting in it behaving unusually please contact your system administrator for further support"

Make : MSI
Model ; Gx700 laptop
OS: Windows Vista home premium (pre installed so no recovery disk! :S) With SP1 installed.

Having run a program that is used to target the nature of errors that nvidia media centre is mentioned, does this mean that it is a hardware failure and that i will need to send the laptop back?

Another note, for some reason the laptop now seems to think that it is the year 16408 does this mean that it is likely to be a virus??

I am really at a loss to explain how this had happened and i need it fixing as soon as possible.. any ideas would be most welcome..

Just wondering if someone can help me and my guy...
Our hp ze 5200 laptop computer has issues all of a sudden. We have ran virus scans of every sort, and also ran the computers own c drive virus scan, and came up with errors which are now fixed, but the computer is still runing very strange. We also tried SmitFraudFix in safe mode, and ccleaner, and still all same issue.
We were going to just start over again with the windows xp program, but there are way to many things on this computer to just give. (My guy is in music production, and has loops and entire songs on here)

The main issues we are having are a lot of clickable links on webpages will not work. Some will.

The other is the Media Player 11 will not work and comes up with a dll error wheneer we try to use it.

And when the computer is shutting down, it takes a really long time, and then an error comes up that says something to do with rundll32.exe error.

A lot of the music websites he goes to will not allow him to play the music, which is just getting really annoying!

I have triued to decipher all of the other posts pertaining to some of these issues, but all of them have hijackthis logs, and I have no clue what all of those are. I don't even know how to get that information. Am computer literate to a certain extent, but these just confuse me.

HELP! PLEASE!

Thanks in advance.

Hello, cassidyj88
Welcome to TSF

My name is Billy O'Neal and I will be helping you. (Billy or Bill is fine, if you like.)
Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).
Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Finally, please reply using the button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.
Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just put a post here so that I know you're still here. We get a lot of people who simply leave, and if there is no contact for that amount of time I will have to assume you have "vanished" .

Alright, this problem is really annoying me and I can't figure it out.
When I try opening ANYTHING from my control panel or open anything that is associated with control panel (ie. going into properties on my desktop wallpaper) I get a "rundll32.exe is not a valid Win32 application". I've run ad-aware, spybot search & destroy, and my AVG anti-virus. It picks up a couple of small things, but after fixing it the same problem persists. Can someone please help me out! Thanks!

I keep getting a "windows can not open this file" when i run any program designed to fix my problem. I must have deleted my rundll files somehow. Earlier I had a malware notice that my computer was unprotected and the message kept covering my whole screen with a fake scan that I could not get rid of. After getting rid of it, none of my icons will appear on my desktop or under all programs in my start file. I can not even get my browser to load any application that has a moving image. It simply does not work with Microsoft sending file association messages. I can not afford any software to get rid of this. Everything that says it fixes it for free looks like it charges to fix the error. Help. I can not download any exe files either. Help.

Hello All, I'm running a Vista 64 bit system, and I keep getting this error when i try to access some short cuts, download certain files or directly access files. For example, I can't get access to my play back devices from the tool bar without the error window popping up.

thats only part of the problem. I did have a virus a while back however I think it removed A LOT of files that connect with start-up files, and short cuts.

Some files will not download, some files will not remove. I feel it is all part of this error but I just want to figure out how can I stop this rundll32.exe from popping up?

Yes the file is missing, and i've tired spyware programs, anti-virus scans, CMD sfc scan now.. none of those worked. I just want to be able to click on certain things and gain instant access to with without this error blocking me. And being able to download files without this error blocking me..

I do not want to re install right now, even though I think that will be my ownly option.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :-)

Member Users,

I have experienced a slow down of my system for many weeks.

Now last week running ADOBE PHOTO SHOP and trying to print 8 JPG documents the sytem took more than 5 minutes to queue them up for printing and in one opportunity a MESSAGE of RUNDLL32.EXE ERROR appeared.

I have read in my Web search that this could mean that this executable system file is corrupted or contaminated with some malware.

I would like to know what is the easiest way to get it back working ok.

Thanks.

I believe I have a corrupt rundll32.exe file, due to a virus a few months ago. No system crashes, but many programs/applications will not run. Unfortunately, this includes any free fix download programs to fix the rundll32.exe problem. I also am not currently able to locate my windows installation CD. Would it be safe to copy from another computer a good version of rundll32.exe and replace the version on my computer? Any ideas? Thanks

A:rundll32.exe error

Hi JG, I would advise against doing that because in most cases people that try that end up having to format and reinstall because they screwed it up and made the problem worse. Also if that file is still corrupt then theres a good possiblity that you may still be infected. I would suggest that you follow the instructions below and let our security experts take a look at it before proceeding.

Please follow our pre-posting process outlined here:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...oval-help.html

After running through all the steps, please post the requested logs in the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum, not here.

If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.

Please note that the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum is extremely busy, and it may take a while to receive a reply.

If they don't post the required logs, it will slow them down with getting any help.

Its always better to be safe then to be sorry. If they clear you of any nasties, I will be glad to assist you further.

I have a Dell Inspiron notebook running Vista Home Premium with 3 MB of RAM. When I try to go to the clock in the system tray I get an Rndll32 error. A message cmes up that indicates the following error message:

This is the 2nd of the two error messages (both refer to the same Rndll32 error). The first one comes up so fast I cannot get it and put it on the screen for anyone.

"Windows host process(Rndll32) has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Hope someone can give me some information. I have searched and searched for answer. This same error message comes up when I attempt to take my flash drive, and when attempting to play a quicktime or Windows Media Player movie.

Thanks for your help.

I encountered a virus called AntiMalware Doctor and ran a few anti-virus scan programs in an attempt to remove it. I also ran CC cleaner which I believe deleted a system file which is causing instability on my computer. I got the "blue screen of death" also but was able to start in safe mode and haven't got the screen since. I still get these RunDll32.exe error messages that pop-up without warning every so often. The error message says "Error in rundll32.exe missing entry: shell32.dll, activate_RunDLL. I'm unable to run some programs properly as well as shutting down my computer properly because of it. I attached the logs that your tutorial requested, any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Any ideas? Hi nmorrisonaz,

Not sure If any malware can do that.

But please do this. Click here to download Hijack This. Run Hijackthis.
Click the "Scan" button when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.

Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required. Someone here will be glad to advise you on what to fix.

*Note: When you download Hijack This Do Not download it to a temp folder or to the desktop. Create a permanent folder somewhere like in My Documents and name it Hijack This and put it in that folder.

Hello, I been getting the rundll32 error since yesterday and I haven't been able to bring up firefox. I removed firefox 3 and installed firefox 2 and i still got the error "firefox has stopped working". So I went to my advanced system settings under properties under computer then clicked on settings under performance then clicked on the data execution prevention then added COM Surrogate and windows host process (rundll32). Doing this allowed me to bring up firefox but now i'm getting alot of pop-up. I ran AVG and it got rid of some of the viruses. But I still think I got some thing on here. I ran a active scan but it just quit working. Below is my hijack log. I hope someone is able to help me with this issue.

I can't access the system restore point, when I click properties on my computer, it gives me that error from earlier like rundll32.exe- Unable to Locate Component
and then it says: "This application has failed to start because msvcrtdm.dll was NOT found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem". Whenever I try to access most applications on my computer I receive that error, sometimes the application will open and other times the error just pops up 5 times and the application won't open! I deleted most of my applications and tried to reinstall a few but they still will not work. I receive the same error. Furthermore, my shockwave will not work eithier. I tried reinstalling and everything.
PLEASE HELP!

A:Help!! Rundll32.exe + Msvcrtdm.dll Error!!

You probably have a virus. Have you tried a deep scan? If you have windows cd you could load it into your cd drive. Click start>run and type in cmd. At the dos prompt key in SFC /SCANNOW. That should restore your missing windows files.

Hey I got a computer, and it is a piece of crap.
Everytime i turn it on it goes to the windows page, then it goes to an error message saying
"rundll32.exe - Application Error. The Application Failed to Initialize Properly (0xc0000005). Click On Ok to terminate the application"
So i click ok then it goes to my desktop. But there is nothing there, except for my background. No Icons, No Toolbar, No Start and no time.
however if I press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, and click on new task, and type in control panel it will give me everything else back. But when i try running some programs they dont work. Firewall and anything that changes settings basically. Nothing in control panel.
This is very irritating. i can still get on msn, and internet. But im trying to set up Xbox Live, and i need to change my router settings which it will not let me do.
PLEASE HELP ME

I think I have the same problem as this thread but I tried a number of the fixes as best I could and couldn't find any of the files that were being listed as malicious in the other thread... I am pretty certain that I got the virus/malware from an SD card that I had used in Thailand while travelling which is where I believe it contracted this malware. I also believe (and hope!) that the software didn't entirely successfully install itself as my NOD32 Anti-virus did block a couple of files when I put the SD card into my laptop. The symptoms so far are error messages saying that rundll32 has stopped and also my laptop has now developed a tendancy to turn off without warning. This has occured while watching/buffering a number of videos simulatenously and while gaming...
Thanks in advance for any help,
Tom

I get two pop ups coming up repeatedly, all the time.
One says rundll32.exe - application error and displays:
The applicaiton failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click OK to terminate the application.

I click ok and it pops up again. In addition to that another pop up comes up saying: Windows host process (rundll32.exe) has stopped working.
I don't know what's going on, here are some more things that happen:

-The vista style theme randomly changes to the classic style, without me doing anything.
-I can't run "sfc /scannow" as a run command, the cmd windows comes up for a second and then disappears.
-I'm running Toshiba Satellite laptop, 32-bit running system.
-Vista home premium.

Please help me, this problem is really annoying. I have many gigs of files on the computer.

A:rundll32.exe - Application error PLEASE HELP!

Ave you gotten an answer to this yet? I recently bought an ASUS laptop which have always been awesome and it's been nothing but problems. Isn't working so the only thing that works (extrememly slow) is like watching videos off a disk and work occasionaly I have ALL my school stuff on here that is due in a week! If u were helped please let me know what to do or who to talk to. It's a new computer there's no reason for this

When i start up my computer (WinXP SP2), after i get the welcome screen i receive the error msgs "Application Failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)" which pops up about 2-3 times. then my deskop top background image loads but nothing else. All my icons that where on the desktop are gone, i have no task bar at the bottom and no time, just the background desktop image. if i press Atl+Ctr+Del, i get the windows task manager. from there i can run most of my programs, however if I try to open some things such as add/remove programs, I get rundll32 error with the same "Application Failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)". So I did a system restore to and it help in some way but I still have the same error when I try to open system at control panel so I click on the X and not the ok button other wise it will mess everything again as you can see I'm very mad about it. Can you please help me .

Thank you

Hi, AlexTB69sand

Welcome.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) from here or here to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.

Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of both, the main.txt and the extra.txt in your next reply.
If the files are too long, attach them to a reply:

Scroll down and click the [Manage Attachments] button
Browse to the following folder:
C:\Deckard\System Scanner

Click Upload to upload these files one by one

Hi,

I am using Windows XP and not much of an expert when it comes to computers. I'm afraid that will do more harm than good when trying to fix up my computer so I thought I would see if anyone on here can gve me a helping hand. I have encountered the following in the last week or so. The only changes I have made are dowloading Internet Explorer 7 which doesn't seem t look right.

- When I start up and log in I get an userinit.exe - applicaion error twice
- Start bar and icons on the desktop won't show after I have clicked 'ok' on the error windows
- I use ctrl + alt + delete and start a new task c: which usually brings up the desktop
- After desktop comes up I get rundll32.exe appliation errors x 4
- When using the internet I seem to get a lot of pop up windows for downloading virus scan software and other various things
- I am unable to bring up a menu within internet explorer when I right click and I can't download anything
- Sometimes the start bar and icons will disappear and there seems to be no obvious reason for it

Hope that all makes sense. I am not sure of all the right language to use. Thanks in advance.

Hi,What kind of Antivirus and Anti-Spyware do you use? Do you use any firewall other than Windows Firewall? Which service pack you are running Windows SP1/2/3? Where from you downloaded IE7. There are website which distribute altered IE7. Download it from http://www.filehippo.com/download_internet_explorer/3282/Your computer seems to be infected with malware. If you have no antivirus or antispyware installed then you can try this 1. Boot in safe mode. Press F8 several times during computer startup, select safe mode with networking.2. Download SuperAntispyware from http://www.filehippo.com/download_superantispyware/. Install and update it.3. Run the scan and clean if it detects any malware.4. Download avast! antivirus from www.filehippo.com and repeat same process.Have a nice day.

Every time I try to use a media player (Real, Windows, InterWinDVD) I'll get through a few minutes of music, video, whatever and then the screen gets jerky even though the audio is fine. Closing programs doesn't fix it. All open windows refresh in slow motion, even new ones opened after the problem begins. When I try to reboot I get a Not Responding error with rundll32.exe. I've tried downloading the latest available audio and video drivers. I've scanned for spyware, adware, viruses. My system (XP on a ThinkPad T41) is spotlessly clean. Any ideas?

I've been to the Asus website and downloaded and installed the latest audio driver (CM6501) for my mobo but all that's done is change the type of device installed to C-Media from PnP in the device manager. The C-Media sound config says there's no device installed.

If it's relevant I also cannot open the User Accounts settings under Control Panel or open Display Settings. I also have an account missing from my logon screen.

Can anyone help please? Many thanks!

my sons winXP PC is producing the error on - logoff or on shutdown.

rundll32.exe still running, end task to stop.

hes been running adware and AVG - no problems.

I have suggested he
1) updates AVG
2) Updates Ad-aware

A) i will then get him to scan with AVG - if virus finds a virus then fixes.
B) Run adware and fix
C) run Spybot and fix
D) Run CWshedder

if problem still exists then - I hope to collect his PC (note he lives with his mum abd we are divorced) and then run hijack this and post a log, once I'm happy everything else has run and been updated.
is this the best thing to do??

There's a minidump.mdmp file created whenever a process crashes. Analysis of that memory dump can sometimes pinpoint the reason for the crash. Zip it up and upload, and odds are someone will take a look. Check out recent posts by Flavius and myself on the "Exploer" thread on the subject of where to find those dumps and relevant event logs.
