At least 2 old games gothic 1 and gothic 2 ( raven ). Both played well on my winXP 64-bit. I reinstalled them both. Gothic 1 has no images in intro, and the sound is very spotty. Gothic 2 also has no intro images and even stopped in the middle of intro.

It is the same computer, except some more games. The computer is virtually not connected to internet except when I need a patch. What could be the reason?

one year old gaming computer
winXP pro 64-bit service pack 2
AMD phenom II X4 955
3.21 ghz 8 gig RAM
radeon HD 4870 X2 2gig video RAM
BTW, the DVDs come from " gothic universal " which includes 3 DVDs ( No1 is gothic 1, No2 is gothic 2 and No3 is gothic 3 ). No3 which is gothic 3 works fine so I have no reason to think that the other two DVDs do not work because they are dusty or scratched. Most other games played well including both old and recent games.

A:games that don't play anymore on same computer?

are you saying they were working on the same computer and stopped working after you reinstall them? why did you reinstall them?

about 3 days ago, i was just on the computer. I went on the internet, tried downloading adobe after affects, and played minecraft. after awhile i got bored so i turned off my computer. When i decided to go back on later, i couldnt play my only 2 computer games which are wizard101 and minecraft. Internet, videos and other programs work just fine. Its just wiz101 and minecraft.

When trying to open wizard 101 i get 3 errors (see attached file). After all those messages go away i can type in my username and password to start the game, but it just tells me i am unable to connect to wizard101.

For minecraft, i have 2 different minecrafts installed. One of the minecrafts let me enter my password and username and begin playing the game, but after that the minecraft window just goes black and stays like that. When trying to play the OTher minecraft i get this error -
Java Virtual Machine Launcher
Error: Invalid or corrupt jarfile C:\Documents And Settings\Victoria\Desktop\Mineshafter-proxy.jar

ive tried uninstalling and then re-installing minecraft, thats all. It did not work though. I havent tried anything else yet. I have a windows Xp. If you need anymore info on my computer or need me to be more clear about some things, please let me know. Thank you.

About a few months ago I can still play games like Combat Arms, Call of Duty 4, BioShock, and Dead Space at minimal performance. But now, I reinstalled the game to play it again and it just got stuck on the Starting Screen or just plain BLACK Screen! I can still play some MMORPG like Sword of the New World: Granado Espada or the recently Closed-Beta, Luna Online just fine. I don't know what I did wrong with my Dell XPS Laptop. Any help will be apreciated.

A:I can't play my games anymore!?

The only thing I noticed with Vista and games is sometimes a game will load and you get to a black menu screen for the game. I play Silent Hunter 4 and the first time I loaded the game in Vista I had not issues at all. Me being me messed up how to handle admin account and user account so I did a clean install to start over. Once done I loaded Silent Hunter 4 again to play. No issues, loaded fine. I clicked to play and I got the load screen. Once I got to the menu of the game it was nothing but a black screen. I could hear the music and see my mouse cursor but nothing else. So, what I had to do was go to my videocard tweak program ( I just use the one offered by Nvidia, it works fine) and reset my video card to all the default values. Should be just a box to check and apply to reset to defaults. Once done, I ran the game and all was fine. I closed the game out and reset my videocard back up to the tweaks I like. My game ran fine every since. Give it a shot, it worked for me.

avast popped and said trojan virus but it blocked it ever since my computer is slow can not hardly scroll pages cant play games

A:computer running slow games take for ever to play

First of all perform a complete scan your pc and then uninstall avast directly but in safe mode is better and reboot. Now reinstall avast and see the effect. Or you can restore your pc into a earlier point. By the way what's your Avast version.? According to me Avast pro is good, do not use avast free antivirus .so I guess you already have a latest version of avast. I am not a expert but I have some kind of knowledgesthanks

We need the model number and make of your laptop, as well as full system specs to help.
Although I can say right now, your integrated graphics sucks.

Hi, I have a computer with hardware capable of running almost all current titles, EG Bf3, Dota2, counter strike GO, that was until a few months ago.
I started experiencing serious ping issues / packet loss in games causing me to completely freeze, then re-appear where I would have been. On counter strike source "string_cmds" graph peaks when this occurs.
The problem has got worse now, though, I can't play more then 10 minutes of ANY game before something goes wrong, be it a game crash or my whole computer shuts down resulting in one of the many Blue screen Stop errors I have said.
The game will run perfectly smooth, then suddenly my whole computer will shut down. This can happen about 5 times a day depending on how willing I am to restart the game.
Google chrome has just started to crash frequently now, too, and with limited income being 16 I need to fix this rather buy a new pc.
I don't know whether this will be useful but the address for one of them ( I've had well over 100 by now) Is "at FFFFF8801047D000" and another.." STOP: 0x00000019"

A:Multiple BSODs - 3B, 7e, 10, 50, can't play games anymore

Welcome to SevenForums,

I have had a look at your last 3 DMP Files, 2 of them are referencing memory.

Can you try these steps for me

Test your RAM modules for possible errors. How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+If there is no error, enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers. Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip
If you fail to get on the Desktop because of DV, Boot into Advanced Boot Options > Safe mode. Disable DV there. Now boot normally again, and try following the instruction of enabling DV again.
If you cannot boot in Safe mode too, do a System Restore to a point you made earlier.

I cannot play some games, for example: Gothic 3, Dead Space, Far Cry
see these photos:

Gothic 3:

Dead Space:

But the following games are ok: C&C RA3, Gothic 2, Mount & Blade, UT2004, UT3.

This is my computer:
OS: Vista x64 SP1
Graphics: Radeon HD 2600 XT + Catalyst 9.1 (8.12 tried too)
MB: ASUS P5WD2 Premium
Monitor: LG W2442PA-BF - LCD 24"

It was OK 14 days ago. The only thing what was changed is my new LCD 24'' monitor. But I think, this is not a problem, because I tried to connect my old 19'' CRT monitor and these games are not playable. I tried reinstall catalyst, but nothing has changed.

Sorry for my bad english, I hope you understand.

A:suddenly I cannot play some games

After this weekend wasted with installing/uninstalling drivers and programs installed last month I find out this problem is only under my user account. If I run these games under admin or another limited account, it is ok. I compared running processes under my and other account, there are no differences, I even tried to kill almost all processes, turn off firewall, antivir, but nothing helped. I wonder what possibly could be wrong with my account? Maybe I will have to switch to other account, because I think I will never find out what's wrong and maybe it is the fastest solution. But if you have any idea what to try, please give me advice.

okay. here is the full story, me and my gramps built a computer in Tx, shipped it back to my hometown, and then i could play any game in the world, i could play bioshock at maxed out detail. no lag at all. But i went away for about 8 months, and now every one of my games have lag, even WITH LOW SETTINGS.

i mean, every application runs lightning fast, and works perfect. its just games. i used to be able to play far cry, swat 4, tremolous, digital paint 2, ship sim 08, xpand rally, just cause, gta san andres, and many more. but now, i cant play crap. its all laggy. even digital paint is unplayable. i dont know whats wrong.

This is the error message that displays when I double click on the yellow triangle beside "Done" in the lower left corner of the screen. I have been playing Pogo games for months and now get a blank screen after the countdown where the game used to show up. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Java, dumped the cache. Anybody??

is this the right section for this..

You could go to the site itself and ask them. I'm sure they have some sort of helpdesk, or customer service. (might get trolled at first bear with it lol)

Flash is what you need to install though for those games I believe, get the latest version for your browser from adobe. It might help..

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ make sure you unclick the 'install this too' box to not get bloatware

They might have blocked your ip or something talk to pogo mods about it; if updating flash doesn't work. (don't assume anything just ask)

Alright, this is a somewhat long story, but I feel that all of this information may be relevant to the problem. The events are listed in chronological order.

1. Everything is fine. I have no problems with anything.

2. I buy Magicka, a game on Steam, at the behest of a friend.

3. We play for 6 hours straight, no problems.

4. I turn off my computer.

5. The next day, I update AMD Vision Control Center to version 11.8.

6. I don't play anything that day but I experience strange graphical errors. My memory is a little foggy, but I'm 75% sure that this as after I had updated.

7. Errors included a strange screen flickering that I can only describe as a constant screen tearing effect on my desktop. Then there was this odd mirroring effect. It was like my screen was split down the middle and then swapped. My screen also went black randomly twice, at which point I had to hard shutdown do to unresponsiveness. Upon restarting my computer both times, Windows detected nothing wrong. No error messages, nothing.

8. The Problems seemed to stop abruptly.

9. Tried to play Magicka the next day.

10. Played for 2 minutes before the screen went all black or white and my entire system locked up.

11. Tried to play several times and each time I met with the same results.

12. Reinstalled Magicka. Problem Persists.

13. Reinstalled Graphics Card. Problem persists.

Hi, I hope this is the correct area to post this. Games are what trigger the problem, though I suspect it is a hardware issue so please let me know if I should repost it somewhere else.

Basically, yesterday I was playing Hearthstone and my computer suddenly went black (as if there was no battery and someone pulled the plug) and then restarted in a few seconds. I actually thought it was a brief power outage in my building (silly because my battery was in at the time).

Anyway it happened again a bit later when I tried to play World of Tanks, and I also tried Eve Online and Team Fortress 2, both caused the same issue, though after different amounts of time. Eve Online ran for a good 15-20 minutes before it happened. World of Tanks and TF2 make it happen within a matter of seconds of joining a game (garage/menu don't cause it). Hearthstone doesn't seem to make it happen every time, I've completed numerous games without issue but as I said the first time I saw this issue it was with Hearthstone. The only other game I've tried is Hammerfight which is a pretty low-intensity old thing, and it did not cause the crash. All these games are things I've played regularly for months and I haven't changed the graphics settings.

It's never happened while not playing a game. I can watch videos and surf the web and use non-game programs without issue, although I haven't tried anything super intense like video or model rendering.

I don't know what caused this; the sounds(in my headset) suddenly stop then resume again. I'm sure that it isn't caused by lag or other internet related issues, I'm using the same headset after my computer has been replaced entirely and my past OS is WinXP. But my speaker works fine and doesn't encounter that problem, I also used that in my past WinXP pc.

Am I encountering some incompatibilities?

I will try to explain my problem as clearly as I can. And so sorry about my bad grammar and spelling, trying to post this asap.

first off give small history of my PC. I bought my PC new Sept 2001. A HP Pavilion with 1.3 ghz, 256ram, and a 55gig hard-drive originally came with WinMe, since then I upgraded to XP. I kept my PC case clean, didn't try to install programs my PC couldn't handle, didn't go to any sites that knew were bad with viruses and such also had Malwareytes/spybot/avast/hijackthis to use, didnt install any toolbars, and tried not to have many programs open at the same time. I basically kept my PC simple with use.

Anyways around June I noticed some odd slowdowns
While playing Winamp and running a torrent with speeds of more than 400+ the audio would become choppy. This also happen when I would open FF, IE or any program while running Winamp, the audio would be choppy.

Extracting 700mb files from Winrar would take around 8mins

Playing Youtube, WMP, of VLC videos would be slow and choppy.

Transferring files from one PC to another over a crossover cable would take much longer. 4gigs of files would take about 20mins or so.

Virus scanners, Avast, Malwarebytes, and Spybot would also take much longer than usual.

Aloha everyone! I use Windows XP Pro w/ Service Pack 2 on my Thinkpad Z60m. My problem is -> I can no longer add languages to my computer to type in different languages.

1. When I go to the control panel, I click on "Regional and Language Options", next I click on the "Languages" tab and under "Text services and input languages" I click "Details". After I click details this is the exact error message that pops up:

"An exception occurred while trying to run "shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL input.dll"

2. As you may or may not know, there is an alternate way of accessing the "Details" under the "Text services and input languages" on the "Languages" tab. All you do is right-click on the language bar and left-click on settings. I also tried this method but this time I received a DIFFERENT message. It reads:

"An exception occurred while trying to run "shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\input.dll"

I am confused. What is going on here?? Help Please!!

I use my computer as my DVD player and recently I had just finished watching a movie and put another one in and now it will not run smoothly, both video and audio. It isn't the DVD because I have tried several of the ones I have and now none of them run smoothly. It is not the program because I have tried using 2 different programs to play them with no luck (windows media and hp dvd player). I got my computer for Christmas so it is very new and has lots of space on it still. It will play audio CD's with no problem! Help me please. Is it possible the reader is dirty or has been displaced a tad? If so how can i fix that? I use my computer a lot to watch DVD's so I'm hurting here! It has been suggested by me from friends that maybe it is a trojan or virus or maybe I would have to reinstall the driver but I do not know how to do that.

Sounds like your dvd drive has been locked to a diifirent area for diffirent dvd playback. open your driver's properties. make sure no disk is in as you'll open the disk properties instead. go to dvd-region tab. i believe that yours is locked. find what region is locked to. the dvd's of that region you can play normally. to unlock it ur looking for firmware update of the drive, good luck!!

I used to be able to play DVD movies on my computer, but without any explanation it stopped working after a while (when the computer was a few months old). The computer recognizes DVD discs when they are inserted into the drive and it can usually ?sort of? play them. Unfortunately there are several problems related to the playing:

1. The pace of both the picture and sound is inaccurate and jerky.
2. Sound and picture are often out of sync.
3. Jerkiness occur repeatedly, but sometimes the movie won?t continue to play at all. The drive tries to spin up, pauses, tries to spin up again ? this goes on and on for several minutes and can?t be stopped (the drive won?t eject). When it finally stops and the drive ejects the disc will be burning hot.
4. You never know if/when (and why ) the movie will stop working in the middle.

Sometimes the problems are really bad, sometimes not so. At its worst the computer won?t play a disc at all. A disc that won?t play at all one day may at least be somewhat watchable the next.

The drive is a combo CD-RW/DVD drive, and I can play CDs and burn CD-RWs without any trouble. The problem doesn't have anything to do with which media player I use, I have tried Windows Media Player, VLC, BSPlayer, PowerDVD, the list goes on... none of them work. It's not the discs that are damaged either, I have tried loads.

Surprisingly, to me at least, I can however copy the contents of a DVD disc to my computer using DVD Decry... Read more

A:My computer can't play DVDs properly anymore

Whenever I have the symptoms you describe it's beacause my DVD-reader can't rad the disc (because the disc is damaged). However, in your case, it might be something with the DVD-reader itself. I'm not sure my tips are really accurate, so I just say what I'd do in your possition (which might be totally unnessecary but in my cases, it has always helped with whatever I've done).

Softare first, I'd try reinstalling eventualy drivers, updating them if I could. I'd try 3rd party drivers if I could, or check if some program is interfering with the reader itself.

Then I'd go to hardware if that didn't sort the problem. I'd try switching it to another IDE cable, (assuming it's 2nd master and HDD is 1st master), I'd try putting it as 1st slave, and try switching the HDD and DVD-reader IDE-cables.

Mostly i've just been lucky fixing problems I couldn't explain just by poking around and testing the problem with different random stuff. I really don't recommend it, because when I do, I'm aware I might get things worse and I'm ready to end up buying a new computer. I hope someone else will have better suggestions. I just thought I'd write this since I have a computer problem myself and I desperately need a break (been on it for 12 hours and I still haven't had anything to eat today).

Let me know how it turns out.
Cheers.

G;day guys

I was hoping someone might be able to help with a little problem. The last few days while playing virtually any games for an hour or so they suddenly slow right down and get very choppy and laggy. This problem isn't there at the beginning of the game, and was never there before a few days ago,
such games include Rome Total War, SWAT 4 and Company of heroes.

At first I was leaning towards some sort of spyware or virus, so I ran, combo fix using its automatic error fix, spyware terminator, avira AV, malwarebytes antimalware, a registry cleaner, and various others to no avail.

Drivers are up to date also.

Considering windows works perfectly fast all the time with no internet issues I am fairly sure it is not a virus of somesort, or a driver issue considering the games load, start, and a play for a while. More likely a hardware issue.

I have pretty much ruled out RAM failure since there are no errors of any kind, there are no weird noises coming from any of the hardware either.

I thought perhaps the computer was overheating so I got a fan on a stand and faced it at the computer with the side cove off to attempt to keep the computer cooler during game play but with no success.

I have of course thought to drop all the visual settings down to the lowest but nothing either.

Perhaps it could be a HDD issue or a IDE error?

My Specs are:
Intel Celeron D 3.20mhz processor
2.56G RAM
2 HDD's one one a standard IDE and the other on a SATA cable set up.

Thank you all.

It started happening 1 month ago all of a sudden. I don't know what information I can give you else. Please ask if you need it.

As of right now, starting and stopping the audio service doesn't do anything and the sound on start up and login for Windows 7 plays loud and clear. However, playing star wars battlefront 3? No sound. Literally after the start up sound plays, nothing else does.

However, sometimes when I turn on the computer, the sound comes on again and works consistently fine after a few reboots with no sound.

When I attempt to Test the sound configuration, it simply states:

I have no other devices except the built in IDT Audio from my laptop with Dre Beats Software enhancement. Please help.

A:No Sound on Computer. Suddenly. Startup sounds play.

Since you haven't mentioned what you've done, I'm going to start with the obvious by saying uninstall your audio drivers, reboot, and reinstall them. Search for the latest drivers for your laptop model off the manufacturer's website.

Also, are you using USB speakers/headphones or analog ones?

Also, what happens when you play media files from windows? Is the problem present only with games?

I don't know what's wrong. One day I was playing fable and then I exited. I was going to take out my wc3 CD out of the CD drive because I was going to play it on my other comp, but it wouldn't open. So I resetted the comp and then the CD drive opened. Next thing I know playing fable again, the computer all of a sudden resetted by itself. Now when playing any games, the computer would crash. Sometimes just clicking links and such would make my computer crash.

An error message sometimes pops up at the start of windows. The message s STOP 0x000000EATHREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER. It says that it's a graphics issue, but I installed the most recent drivers and it still doesn't work. The last resort says to replace my video card, but I'd like to hope that there's another way. When it crashes the screen turns black for a few seconds, then resets or instead of turning black, the colors and pictures of what's on my screen would just get all messed up. After turning off the autoreboot under system failure, all the screen does is stay black now. My video card is an ATI RADEON 9600

Note: I've had this video card for 2 years already.

I don't know why this is happening =\, but here's my minidumps if it helps.

A:Computer suddenly crashing/resetting when playing games.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

All your minidumps crash at your video card drivers. They all have a bugcheck of EA.

0x000000EA: THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER

A device driver problem has caused the system to pause indefinitely (hang). Typically, this is caused by a display driver waiting for the video hardware to enter an idle state. This might indicate a hardware problem with the video adapter, or a faulty video driver.

As you can see. This is either a problem with your video card drivers, or with the card itself.

If your card is overclocked, reset it to the defaults.

Try uninstalling, and reinstalling the drivers. Maybe try a different version of the drivers.

Check your card for overheating. Make sure any fan on the card is running properly, and that the heatsink isn`t full of dust.

o found a couple of old nostalgic games a want to play. the problem is they just say i need x86 architecture and im not really want to run a x86 os to play them is there another way?

i heard of wow64 it could run x86 applications can i use that in some way?

A:play old games on new computer

It depends really on how old the games are you want to play. In most cases, just install the game as normal and play. Some older games may require updates, like Diablo 2 or Sims 2, but most should work fine on Vista x64 without any problems.

In the rare instance that you do have problems, you could always try compatibility mode, and if it's a really old game, download the free Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, install XP on it, and run the game in a virtual pc environment. I haven't had to do this for a while, but it may help you.

A:I cant play any games on my computer

if you could give us detailed specifications about your computer. We could solve this problem much smoother.
To do this, go into the start menu and type "dxdiag" without the quotes, and press enter. Then select yes to see if drivers are digitally signed. Finally, at the bottom you will see save all information and save it as a text document and attach it to your next post on techspot. We will find a lot of useful information through this.

Hey guys,

Im a newbie....

I just installed Tiger Woods 2004 onto my laptop. Its a Toshiba Satellite 1905 and my operating system is XP sp2. I get the stupid BSoD screen when I start playing, i can select my character and everything. However, once it loads to actually play, i get the stop screen.

I get these reason codes...

***STOP: 0x000000E8 (0x000000005, 0xBFA9F783, 0xEF702A18, 0x00000000)

***STOP: ati3d1ag.dll address BFA9F783 base at BFA08000, datestamp 3c9bebfd

I tried Googling all of these reasons and came up with nothing to fix it. I need some serious help.... any suggestions? Is this a problem with my drivers or RAM and if so what do i need to do to fix it.

Thanks,
-- Dave

Does your laptop have "at least" the minimum requirements to run the game? I'd suspect looking at the video requirements specifically.

When I brought this computer home  last Nov. it was lightening fast at everything! so much better than  the windows XP  it replaced, I was thrilled.  yet Now starting in  April 2015  it is as slow  or slower  as my old Windows with XP ever was  ( and partially the reason for saving my  pennies to get this windows 7 computer)...and  now I'm upset. feeling  like I have been taken.

has Comodo antivirus and Comodo cleaning essentials installed.
All virus scans  find no infections,  and report that all is well and protected.  ( B/C of the way the computer is operating i'm doubting that and betting there is an infections of some sort)

I Have run Comodo cleaning essentials and  results find no abnormalities or infections.
Have run TFC and JRT  and the computer shows no signs of improvement.
have run rKill  and it  finds  no abnormalities  or infections.

A:Windows 7 computer suddenly slow to get on internet, slow to browse websites etc

Hi flywelder Maybe we aren't looking at an infection here. There's tons of reasons why a system can slow down, and not all of them are malware related. Let's try to take a look at this issue under another angle shall we?MiniToolBoxDownload MiniToolBox and move the executable file to your Desktop;Execute MiniToolBox and check the following options:List Installed Programs;List Last 10 Event Viewer Errors;List Devices - Only Problems;List Users, Partitions and Memory size;Once this is done, click on Go and wait for the scan to complete;Once the scan is complete, a log will open. Hello!

For the past 4 months i have had an issue with my computer suddenly restarting during certain video games, without any bluescreen or anything, so no dump logs either. The past year i have gradually replaced my MB, CPU, GPU, ram and HDD, so the only thing that is older than 6 months is my PSU, a Chieftec Smart Series 550W(which ive had since november 2010). I first only replaced my GPU, without this issue occuring once. I then upgraded my CPU, RAM and MB at the same time, and this is when the problem started. Whenever i tried to play CS-go on max settings the comp would just restart after 5-15 mins of playing. The ram that i had got was faulty, and i got it replaced, but the problem was not gone after that. This issue also occurs ocasionally when i play world of warcraft, it might happend once during 2 weeks. Now i recently also installed GTA5 and the issue also appears to occur here, after 25-45 minutes of playing. With cs-go i managed to get rid of the issue by simply tuning down the graphic settings a little bit. I havent tried this with GTA5, as i dont want to play it with any lower settings. It might be worth mentioning that i can run CS-GO and world of warcraft simontaniously without the issue occuring, i have at least done it for hours and its never happend yet.

I have turned off automatic shutdown on failure in advanced windows settings.

After every the issue occurs and the computer restarts, i find 3 errors in the event log(sorted so that the first err... Read more

Please, visit This thread.
Go to start menu>type services.msc> enter > scroll to find Windows Driver Foundation> double click> change start up type to automatic.
That should do it for the second error that might have caused the first error.

Whenever I try to play games via Steam or Gamefly, my computer freezes which forces me to turn off the computer manually. I've noticed that certain games work like The Walking Dead, Oblivion, Left 4 Dead, Mirrors Edge, Assassin's Creed 1 and 2, Bioshock, and Dead Space. I believe games that require a lot of GB (higher than 6) don't play. I have 8 GB of RAM and 120 GB left of space. My computer is an HP G62-340US. I'm not computer savvy so I really don't know many terms. I have posted on other forums, but no luck. Also, this happened not too long ago. Before this happened, I was able to play Fable 3, but now it freezes, as well. I really want this resolved because I have some really good games I want to play and I feel like I wasted my money buying those games. I have also ran multiple tests and I do not have any viruses. I know it isn't the heating because it doesn't even get hot.

(see attached files).
What video cards would work????

A:Upgrading Computer To Play Games

First of all you need to list your exact specs. It is hard for anyone to recommend an upgrade unless they know what you have now ie agp or pci-e, what power supply is installed; will it be enough to power a new video card, etc.

Is this a pre-built system or is it a custom build?

as follows
CPU: Athlon II X2 240, 2.8Ghz
MBD: Biostar TA770E AM3 / DDR2 / SATA
RAM: 2GB DDR2 800MHz
Case: CoolerMaster Elite 330
PSU: WinPower 450w
One 300gb Sata drive
One 160gb Sata drive
One LG Dvd Writer
Graphic card: MSI Geforce 9500gt MD1G-OC/D2

Now when i first got it no problems at all,
i could play Crysis, Cryostatis, Riddick, Saw and Mass Effect.
All on high and max settings, running fine.

Two weeks later it wouldnt let me play any of these games without shutting down, 2-5 mins into a game i would hear a click and it would turn off but the computer would still be running half the time.

I thought it was a graphic card problem so i swapped with my geforce 7500GT
and it still crashed, i removed one of my sata and dvd drive and still the problem consists?

Code:
The cpu is at a 22-30?C
Graphic cards are at 45-60?C

So my computer crashes whenever I play videogames for more than 5 minutes. What's interesting is that it is not just videogames but yesterday I was watching a 30 minute video on google and it crashed and I was also playing a fairly high-demanding video game on the internet today and it crashed again.

I have an HP DV8000 laptop which runs on windows xp and has an intel centrino duo processor and a nvidia geforce go7600 graphics card.

I was thinking about just reformatting my computer completely but I'm not sure if it will solve the problem or not and am looking for recommendations. I also have an external hard drive which I run most of my games off of and when it is hooked up my computer is always a lot louder, don't know if this pertains to the problem but though I would mention it. Thanks a lot!

Couple years ago I built a computer. The specs are 2 gb DDR2 ram, Amd Athlon 64x2 4400 2.3ghz, Nvidia 7300 gt 512 mb pci, Asus M2N-E. I went to go play a game that said it would work and it however it didn't. Now I need to know what would be the smartest thing to do. Get a new video card and try to run it. Btw the game I am talking about is Battlefield Bad Company 2. And for price nothing too outrageous maybe under $300.

I've read a lot from forums recently and tried multiple things to fix it but the trouble won't go away! I've installed latest drivers, checked for viruses, cleaned computer from dust, troubleshooted, checked Bios and checked temperatures. The temperatures are normal even when I am gaming, so it's not overheating. But when the computer chrashes a black screen pops up and a strange noise comes up. I am not sure if my PSU is correct strength for my computer now that I have recently vought new GPU,CPU, RAM and motherboard.

Recently my display went blank and I had my gpu (AMD HD7700 series) repaired from a local store nearby. After that I started noticing weird lines on the screen when I'm surfing internet or watching videos.HTML5 videos makes my screen go crazy.I can hear the sounds but the display is full of lines.Another thing is that when I play games or multitask for a while the computer dies without any warning.Trust me it's so annoying.Sometimes I can play for like 3-4 hrs without any crashes.I thought this could be due to low memory and upgraded to extra 4GB of ram(total of 8GB now).Even now when I try to run big games like killing Floor 2 , I could play for like 10 to 20mins without any fps drop or lagspikes. After that it dies without any error.I've tried searching for solutions and found out it might be due to faulty psu but my pc works fine when I don't play games.I'm planning to give it to a nearby tech specialist for repair.Just came here for some guidance.Any suggestion would be helpful,Thanks!sorry for my bad English

I don't know if your computer has a AV IN port/s. In my experience I haven't seen a PCI card that will support AV ports. One of two things come to mind:

1) you get a tv tuner and plug the PS2 in via the coax

2) I forgot what it was

Maybe Radioshack can help you with a converter from AV to VGA. But since its a different frequency I don't know if it'll work

And recently he bought Far Cry, tried the new tomb raider game, and even tried another 3-d game called painkillers. All three of them run slower than usual on his superman computer. There has to be something wrong, but we have no idea what is wrong.

He tried that tomb raider game before a while back and it worked fine. But just recently it's been slow. I tried removing spyware but still no use.

Does anybody have any idea on what the cause of this slowdown is on this high end pc?

When ever I play these games my computer restarts and a list of those that work.

Now before I give the list I want to say, it will start up the game, the menu, and right when the game is done loading and ready for me to take over the character, BAM it goes to a black screen for a second and restarts.

Don't Work:
Battlefield Heroes
Half-Life 2
Fable: The Lost Chapters
Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth 2

Work:
The Sims 2
Counter Strike Source
Garry's Mod
Team Fortress 2
Day of Defeat Source
Half Life 2 Deathmatch
Portal
Runes of Magic
Lord of the Rings Online
A lot more games this is just to show how well my computer works

Now first off I did update everything, Lord of the Rings and Fable worked before now, but I got a virus and did a full hard-drive restore. Also I want to say most of the games I have are on very high settings, so I know my computer can run these games well. I got these codes when the games restart after I followed what other people told me and unchecked automatic restart. So please tell me what to do.

Hi and welcome to TSG.

We can't offer much advice without knowing a lot more about your machine.

If it is a big brand box (ie. HP, Dell etc) then what make and model is it?
If its a self build then tell us make and model for Motherboard, RAM, CPU, Power Supply, Graphics cards, Sound card, hard drives, DVD/CD drives etc. The more info you can give the better diagnosis people can make.

Hey there!

I was wondering if it was possible to have two progams in focus at once so that say I run a program while my brother runs another at the same time. This thought came to mind when I was working for a way to play LAN games on one computer essentialy making a sort of split screen. I was able to make one of my games, serious sam 2, work so that I could see myself in both windows therefore showing that a sorta LAN network can be used within the computer. Now I wish to operate both. I was wondering if I could play on one of the games with the keyboard and mouse while on the other, use a joystick or a controller.

For slight clarity reasons, lets say I wanna play S_1 vs. my brother on S_2. Both would be the same game but two different .exe's. Such as I would run C:\...\S_1 and C:\...\S_2 in two different windows. I would controle S_1 with my keyboard and mouse while my brother controle's S_2 with a controller. I also don't want to have an issue where my keyboard controls suddenly take over his controles in S_2. So now we would have 2 windows, 1 computer, playing the same game in two windows from 2 different executables LIKE LAN but on one computer.

Yes this is probably impossible and yes I know I'm just being lazy by not just going out to get another computer or w/e for us to play but hey, if it could work then better to try than to spend extra money.

Any help would be awesome !

I've run memtest 86, windows memory test, changed the cpu usage, adjusted memory in bios. I've played other games such as crysis 2 which is a lot more demanding than quake live without this problem.

I've been running into this problem for a few weeks and it just got worse, to the point where I can't play ANY game other than flash games. Here's what happens:

Attempt
Try to start a game (War Thunder, World of Tanks, etc.)

Result
The computer will shut off (with no BSOD and no Crash Report/Minidump) when the game gets to seeing graphics and then reboot 2 secs later on its own.

Attempted Fixes
1. Took to a repair shop and had new thermo gel put in between the cpu and heatsink, however problem could not be replicated and repairman said temperatures were fine (Though Speedfan said AUXTEMP was 80+ celsius, CPU was at 45-50 Celsius).
2. Checked all fans to make sure were running and even added another fan
3. Unplugged and replugged GPU, HardDrive, and RAM.
4. Reinstalled OS with a clean wipe/formatted partition.
5. Used older GPU drivers with dates that were around the time the problem never existed (yet still the problem happened).
6. Airdusted the computer

I have had the problem "delay" sometimes where I get into the game and can see the graphics but then if I either try to make the game full screen or try to do something in the game, the problem happens. I have tried to run FurMark, in which the problem happened again as soon as I started the test. Now I've noticed a high pitch noise (gentle but loud enough to hear it from 2 feet away) coming from my PSU whenever I do something on my computer (moving the mouse, typing, etc.)

I have a strange problem? 4 days ago me and my friend started to play warcraft 3 on my LAN? no big deal but 20 min into the game both computers shuts down???
After this I thought that I had a virus there for run an adwear removal/virus check and thought that this was fixed but now every time I start a game on these computers they shut down in 10 to 20 min in to the game?

So I go over everything
No new drivers
No new hardware change
No new upgrade
No system change

Scenario
2 laptops
(Acer Aspire 9100/2.0 MHz/1GHz mem/ATI128MG) and
(HP Pavilion 7600/2.4MHz/1GHz mem)
OS: winxp pro servicepack2
run perfect before no problems; both connected together played the same game for 20 min and shuts down. Run ok doing everything else but all games make them now shut down in 10 20 min. after shut down there is no way to turn them on again unless power plug is removed and put in again? If not they act as they where killed completely

And logic tells me that a hardware failure on both computers on the same time is not likely?
What could this be???

I am running out of ideas what to do?
I looked for everything?. On these two laptops
Because it happened first time when I connected these computers together and was playing this game I uninstalled the game cause I thought it contain a virus and checked everything.

My computer can play almost any game that has an offline mode (Crysis, Call of Duty 4 MW, Call of Duty 5 WaW, ETC.)

Games like that, but when I try to play games like ACE Online, WoW, Cabal Online, and basically any 3d online game. The computer crashes after a random amount of time. It freezes with a black screen and had a stutter sound of the last sound played.

I was just wondering if anyone else had a problem like this? It all started happening after my Ethernet port started acting up. (Unidentified Network). I'm currently using a wireless connection (seperate, netgear) to get online.

I'm still trying to figure out what the main problems are.. I've narrowed it down to either.. JAVA problems, my Graphic Cards are having a problem with these games.. (which I doubt..), or it has something to do with the Ethernet ports.

NOTE: It's mainly when playing directly from the network, AKA not private servers. Usually private servers do not cause my computer to crash.

Without actual minidumps or Blue Screen error codes I would guess your suspicions are correct. It sounds like either a) you need to update your ethernet/NIC card drivers or b) you have a failing NIC card.

Hello, I bought this laptop within the last month or so. I knew it was not the most powerful laptop, however was under the impression it would be able to do things I wanted to relatively well (films, gaming, browsing the internet). When I play games such as: Hearthstone, Football Manager, CIV5 etc, the game runs smoothly with barely any sort of lagging. However, now almost every time I play the game, my laptop restarts or turns it self off within 30 minutes of starting up the game. I have all my drivers up to date, I regulalr make sure Windows is too. I have checked to make sure my computer's specs are good enough to run these games and they are, so I am a bit stumped as to why this keeps happening. If anyone knows why it might be and what I can keep doing about it I would be very grateful.  Thanks!

I have a Compaq Presario V6000 with Vista Business installed on it.  My computer was working ok until this weekend when it decided to become as slow as Christmas.  I've opened the resource manager to find that the CPU is running at 100%.  I know next to nothing when it comes to computers.  I have a couple of antivirus tools on my system, Spybot, AVG, Sophos, and Microsoft Security Essentials.  I also have Malwarebytes.  I will run a couple of these applications maybe once a week or two.  Occasionally something is found and then eradicated.  I don't know if that has any influence on the poor performance now, but I'm ready to chuck this thing out the window.  I also have to use my desktop to type since I can't use certain keys on my laptop anymore as well.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello -
Please uninstall all but one Antivirus program, as this may be part of your problem. Malwarebytes can stay.
If you require help with correct full removal of any of these programs, please ask for full directions.
This is just some ideas to start with.
With the keyboard, have you ever tested another keyboard, since these do wear out and the keys can become stickey. What is the exact problem with the keyboard (sticking or wrong letters etc)
A new (replacement) one is reasonably cheap, if another one works OK -

Hi,

I hope someone can help me. For a few weeks now I have been unable to do any Windows XP updates. Normally the updates download automatically and I say yes to install them. But a few weeks ago the updates wouldnt install and I keep getting a Windows message saying it is unable to install the updates. I did get one of the updates to install by clicking on the Advanced option and selecting and trying to install the updates one by one instead of all at once. But there are at least 6 updates that wont install.

Also, since last night my computer has been running VERY slowly. I downloaded a program called MonkeyBongo which was a stupid thing to do because it has been slow ever since. There was no uninstall on the program (excellent), so I removed 2 of the programs (it installed in 3 parts) via Windows Add/Remove programs thingo and the last part didnt show up in there so I removed it using Norton Systemworks Wipe Info thingo.

I ran Spybot and deleted the tracking cookies it found, but there wasnt anything very scary in that list.

I tried using Windows System Restore thingy to go back to before I loaded MonkeyBongo (I created a restore point before I downloaded it) but it freezes everytime I try to go in to restore it (never did that before).

And still my computer is very slow. I tried doing online virus scans at Trendmicro and Pandaware but neither would run or install or anything.

I use Avast antivirus and Windows Firewall on Windows XP SP2.

I honestly have no clue if I posted this in the right area, but I recently (today) found out that if I start any game on my laptop it lags on the main menu and really bad in-game. I even noticed my computer is running slower in general. I don't think it should be because I uninstalled my Display driver yesterday because I can't even change the brightness (which I also couldn't solve). I'm honestly at a loss, looking up fixes on forums, and this is my last resort to find help directly. I haven't done anything that should harm my computer, and have restarted my laptop. I can't give you my specs because I really don't know how, but I wish could give enough information to get some sort of help, sorry if I couldn't.

Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone had input on this problem I've been having recently.

Today I tried to play Portal 2. It ran about the same as always for about five to fifteen minutes, and then my computer shut off abruptly. Confused, I started it back up after a minute and it booted back up with no problems whatsoever.

About ten minutes later I played Dead Island. After about the same amount of time, the computer shut off again. I disconnected my computer, switched off the surge protector, unplugged the computer, opened it up and cleaned the inside and the vents to clear up any dust using a can of air. After I plugged everything back in and turned it on, it started up normally again. I also did a complete scan with Advanced Systemcare and removed all the alert items.

Played Portal 2 again about an hour later. Same time span, same abrupt shut down.

Again, it's really weird because it only happens when I'm playing games like those. What's even more unusual is that I was able to play games like this flawlessly as recently as last night, when I beat Deus Ex Human Revolution. Since last night I haven't changed any drivers, settings, updates, or anything else that I can think of.

So, any ideas on where to start troubleshooting? I don't know if it helps, but I'll include my dxdiag after this paragraph. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Hey,

As of 4 hours ago I became the owner of a new 6600gt. It was a Christmas present to myself so I could get a better visual experience out of my games.

I installed the card fine along with the drivers. I then changed my desktop settings etc. I then proceeded to load up wow. It loaded but I found that it was rendered with the onboard graphics (This is because it looked absolutely shocking). It then crashed. Every game so far has done the same thing.

I did some research and have done the following to try and solve this problem:

I went about a thorough clean up of my ATI drivers from my previous card. I did this by following this.

This however didnt help. I still have this problem..

At current I am looking try and shut off the onboard graphics via the bios. This will happen after I find an online manual telling me how.

Any help would be appreciated as I am very keen to go back to playing WOW.

My specs:

AMD 3200
1 gig of RAM
NVIDIA 6600 gt (AGP) previously a Radeon 9550 (AGP)

Any help would be greatt - thanks

I have a computer with windows 7 64 bit and 4gb of RAM. Two days ago for no apparent reason the computer locked up when I tried to drag a file to a usb stick. I could not use ctrl alt del and nothing but a reboot would unfreeze it. The same thing has happened every time I try to drag or copy a file to another location on the computer. Re-innstalling the system with an image backup has not fixed the problem.

The figures from Task Manager>Performance Tab>Resource Monitor>Memory could not be accessed becaudse I could not get into the Task Manager and had to reboot the computer. However, I did check on the figures after rebooting. They are:

Hardware Reserved: 37 MB
In Use: 1358 MB (fluctuating)
Modified: 55 MB (fluctuating)
Standby: 2365 MB (fluctuating)
Free 279 MB (fluctuating).

I have since had problems when trying to access games I have downloaded a while ago and until now have worked fine. As soon as I click on the game icon the computer freezes and I get a blue screen, I cannot access the Task Manager and I have to reboot. I tried three different games and the same thing happened. At best I might get to the first or second startup screen of the game then it either freezes.

A:My computer restarts whenever i play games or watch videos?

Hello, and welcome to the forum. First off, a common problem is the PSU being underpowered for the hardware you have in your system. If it was a custom built or you built it, i would advise you to post your hardware in the PSU section and see see what they think, also do this if you upgraded any part of your computer recently. If it was a store bought (dell, hp, ibm, etc.) then you should not have this problem. If this does not work out then you can also try to go to the HiJackThis section and post a log (intructions are posted there).

Now, When I turn it on, it sits at the Windows XP splash screen with the ticker going back and forth for over 3-4 minutes. When it does finally get to where I can logon, its so slow the welcome music is choppy. It won't play music or video without lag, and this is a computer that I was playing high end video games on just a few days ago.

I had this same sort of problem about a week ago, I did a system restore and it was fine. This is not the case this time. I have also tried removing all the Usb devices, Nothing. I'm running out of ideas on what it could possibly be.

Also as a note, This happened right after a game froze (America's Army). And If I can remember correctly, It happened the last time right around the time I was playing this game. But I have played this game on here fine without problems for weeks. I have tried an uninstall of this game and deleting its file from the prefetch, Nothing.

Hi! I have a HP Pavillion desktop(p7-1235)with Windows 7. It's been running with no problems for 5ish years now but suddenly started to crawl. Not just web browsers but opening anything on the computer. It goes through moments of where it seems to be fine but will suddenly be crawling again. I've also noticed in the mornings the computer will be off and when I go to turn it on it tells me it wasn't turned off correctly. (I recently moved into an old house and assumed it could be the outlet) I have ran malewarebytes, Microsoft security, and spybot with no results. I regularly disk cleanup and clean cache off it and try to keep it healthy. I was worried about the hard drive going so I downloaded HDtune and ran the quick scan but it all came back normal. I tried checkdisk in safe mode but it seemed to get stuck at 45%
Thanks in advance!
-Sierra
Edited: I was able to get chkdsk / r to run fully. It has been a lot faster since. Almost seemingly normal again. It stayed on all night without turning off on its own. However, when I restarted the computer again my desktop background went back to looking washed out (how it looked while it as running slow) and not the right colors despite me not messing with any of that stuff.  So if its not too much trouble I'd still like to see if there is another issue infecting this computer.

Hi ssee05 My name is Aura and I'll be assisting you with your issue. The symptoms you described are often associated with a hard drive failure, so I would like to test it with GSmartControl, which is more reliable when it comes to diagnostic than HDTune. Follow the instructions below please.GSmartControlFollow the instructions below to test your hard drive health with GSmartControl:Download GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;Extract the content of the GSmartControl .zip archive and execute gsmartcontrol.exe;Identify your drive in the list, and double-click on it to bring up it's window (usually you'll find your drive by it's size or it's brand name);Go in the Perform Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply;Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, copy and paste their name in your next reply (or take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply);

Our computer (Dell laptop inspiron 600m) is suddenly (like overnight) very, very slow. We have SBC yahoo DSL wireless internet. We have not installed anything new, nor have we downloaded anything recently. I am not talking just a little slow, it will take over 5 minutes to open a new page & it frequently gives up trying & just displays the page cannot be displayed page instead & I have to try all over again. I cannot even send emails, it takes soooo long that it gives up & says page cannot be displayed. I have brought up the control-alt-delete, but don't see anything unusual & everything is listed as "running". Once when I tried to restart the computer it was taking forever & gave me a message the "socket" was not responding. I told it to end now & when it restarted I went into the control panel to find it & there is nothing there that says "socket" at all. I have updated antivirus & scanned & nothing came up. I ran the spy ware scan & removed the tracking cookies, nothing else came up & it has made no difference. We also have a firewall which is working properly & an internet filter that is working properly. We have 45.5 GB free on the hard drive. I just don't get it, can anyone help me out with this, it's beyond tolerable.

I'm using a laptop with a T5800 processor and 2Gb memory.
I'm using it for about 4 month and haven't had any problem with it till now.
Yesterday I turned it on and it took much longer then usual to start up, and when I'm using usual prog. like Firefox it stucks for a long time or shows me the right click menu only if i run the mouse over it.
I've tried to run ad aware an another spyware prog., it found some minor stuff and fixed them, and i ran McAfee antivirus after it was updated and found nothing.
I ran some app. on sandra 2002 and it found some havy files that i dont know if they may casue the problem. I cant find what was that app, but ill upload the file names, after ill find it.
