[SOLVED] Continuous popups in IE, Firefox running slowly, Windows explorer errors

Q: [SOLVED] Continuous popups in IE, Firefox running slowly, Windows explorer errors

Hello!

Many thanks in advance for your assistance! Through some inadvertent clicking I was attacked by "Antispyware Master" a rogue antispyware program. I have deleted all the files I could find, as well as some registry entries associated with the program as suggested by another website, before I found you guys. Additionally I have ended the associated process to it and it is no longer bothering. It has not shown up after several restarts. However, I am still receiving numerous malicious popups in IE. Firefox is also not running well. I am able to click through to maybe two websites before it will completely hang up and say "waiting for xyz website". Furthermore, I am sporadically getting a windows explorer buffer underrun error that informs me that it is no longer able to continue executing and must close. It will do this periodically and the machine usually continues to operate relatively normally. Occasionally however, it will actually shut down explorer and the taskbar and desktop icons will all disappear. I am able to continue working in the windows that remain open however, but a restart is required to get explorer back.

Also, I have run scans with adaware, and spybot several times to clean the system, and have not had any new significant results recently to show improvement. I have run a couple of scans with Norton and it also comes back clean. However, sometimes after a popup window opens Norton will open an alert saying it found a virus in the following directory:

C:\Documents and Settings\Josh\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

I have successfully followed the five recommended steps up to this point, and am posting the DSS log as follows, but can also produce very recent Hijack This and Panda logs as well.

Hello,

After uninstalling Norton 360, as it was making my machine slow, I've found that my browser runs extremely slowly nevertheless.

I have a Windows XP machine. To uninstall Norton I first used the Add/Remove Programs facility in the Control Panel. When this didn't correct the problem with the slow browser I downloaded a utility from the Symantec site for removing Norton 360. This failed to work as well so I'm at my wit's end as to how to get the browser to run at normal speed.

I have been unable to find any mention of similar problems by other people.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rob

I've recently begun getting tons of pop-up ads that I think are viral despite Web Defender and Norton not finding anything. The ads are usually related to something I've been recently looking at. I've also been getting a ton of error messages that say "Internet Explorer has stopped working", however if I just click the "X" to close the message, IE continues working just fine.

I'm running Windows Vista and am at a loss of where to go next. Help?

Ok, I've been combating this for days. I even lost a whole night of sleep to this. I first got attacked by 3 or so viruses. I ran malwarebytes and Microsoft security essentials. They got rid of the vast majority of the problems. I even had to reset my router because my router settings got hijacked. Anyhow, I've gotten rid of most everything, and every single adware-anti-virus I run is coming up clean, but I know there is still a problem.

Symptoms:
1. Google/Bing/Yahoo searches get redirected to false sites, but only if it is a new site. Once press "back" and go the site I just clicked on, it directs me to the correct site. This is both on Firefox and IE. It doesn't appear to be redirecting Google Chrome.
2. There seems to be an unusual amount of ads for Vimax. It seems like every site has a banner with them all of a sudden. I think this is a result of whatever is messing up my browser.

3. I'm getting popup ads on sites that don't normally have popups.

What I've done.
Ran malewarebytes. Ran AVG Anti-Vir. Ran Microsoft Security Essentials. Ran BHODemon. Everything is showing up clean.

I saw a video on how to stop redirects on youtube.com
YouTube - How to fix the google redirect error

It directs me to go to the C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/hosts file, and change the file to read

::1 localhost
127.0.0.1 localhost

as opposed to how it previously was written

127.0.0.1 localhost

Hi angiesluck and welcome to TSF !

Do you have any sony ericsson software installed ? If so uninstall it from add/remove programs then reinstall the latest version if you still need it.

Maybe you can also try to download the uninstall utility from that page you seem to get directed to :
http://www.pc-on-internet.com/uninstall.php?lg=EN
I would advise that you create yourself a temporary e-mail address which will redirect to your own mail in case they would use your address to spam you afterwards.

If none of the above helps then follow the "HJT - 5 steps against malware" link in my sig and read the instructions there very carefully.

HijackThis in Temp Folder
You are running HijackThis from a temporary directory. It needs to be in a permanent folder. Please go into Windows Explorer, click on C:\ then click on File > New > Folder and call it HJT , or another name of your choice and move the HJT files to this folder. The program creates backup files that we may need to use later. If the program is in a Temporary folder, files may be deleted by you or automatically if your system is set to empty temp files.

Hello,

the computer that I am using is running very slowly.
I ran Ad-aware SE and it detected lots of critical objects which I promptly removed. I then rebooted the computer and then ran ad-aware again and there is still malware present, but a lot less. Yet when connecting to the Internet via IE most of the objects re-appear.

So after running ad-ware, I ran Hijackthis and got the following log:

I think I may have the same problem, but first can you tell me what is "Hijackthis"?

I know my system has a virus, but symantic doesn't seem to be able to remove it. I have lost control of the web browser. Is there another way to set the home page for IE other than using tools -> options?

A:Hijackthis log . . .computer running slowly & popups

Welcome to TSG

You need to start your own threads so no one gets confused on what is what. I have ask for your post to be moved

Go to http://majorgeeks.com/download3155.html and download 'Hijack This!'.

First make a folder on your computer in my documents called Hijackthis and then Unzip it to that folder.
Then doubleclick the Hijackthis.exe.

Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.

Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

EDIT: it appears it have the vundo trojan/virus, but clue less as to how to fix it

As of about an hour ago i started getting popups about running/downloading spyware from different sites as well as several from nightlife.com or some variation. The other thing im getting is a message saying explorer.exe had an error and needs to close. The keyboard responsiveness is also slowed... im thinking a trojan

i ran spybot search and destroy with tea timer and have denied two registry changes, as well as adaware 2007, neither finding anything specific. After a full scan with AVG Free it came back with no viruses but "C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" as changed.

im running win xp on a HP and i generally use IE 7.

i must admit havent ran any spyware tools in sometime until this evening...

while pretty computer/windows literate, im very unfamiliar with HijackThis logs and such..

Hi there, thanks for viewing this.

Recently, my internet explorer 7 and firefox has been running quite slowly. After googling a bit, I found out that this problem could be caused by the iexplore.exe virus.

Many iexplore.exe was running in the processes tab of the Windows task manager when my internet browsers were not in use. This may have caused the slowness.

I have a logfile of TrendMicro's Hijackthis v2.0.2:

Ever since i did a cleanup of my computer (check my other posts), Firefox has been running slowly, and it takes a long time to switch between tabs. Also, in Internet Explorer, the address bar drop-down keeps clearing itself.

Any advice? Anything that could particularly speed up FireFox would be a big help.

When I log into http://www.care2.com then access my email within care2 the following has just started to happen. I get the following dialog box:

"The Script on this page is causing IE to run slowly - If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script?". If I click NO, the page opens that I wanted, if I click YES, I get a partly loaded page - I then go to Task Manager/Application and it shows "not responding" against care2 pages open, so I end the task.

I have checked my Internet Option/advanced/browsing, but cannot locate a problem with the items enabled. I have not touched any settings within Internet Options/advanced at this stage. The same thing happens when I use Firefox.

Thanks, would be pleased of some help when possible.

Happy New Year to all

A:IE and Firefox running slowly

It is a problem with the script on the page you are on and what has to be done is to notify the owners of the page there is a problem. If it was your computer then this would be a problem on all of the pages you visit. I would go back to the page and see if there is a way to leave them an email about the problem.

I've had this Windows 7 Pro system for a few years and it's been thru many upgrades & revisions. Last week, internet browsing and applications started getting slower. I have tried to clean up unwanted programs & the hard drives but it still seems slower than I seem to remember.

Here's the system info (W7 on C: and most apps/data on D: );

OK, so I may have found (one of) the reasons for the system running slowly. I had somehow managed to activate a second AV app. (Avira OE) which seemed to be spending all the time thrashing the system. I've just re-booted and it seems to be running far better than before.

Hi. My computer has been running much slower than normal. When you open a new window or even try to select a user from the first screen, it really takes its time. Even once the window is open, you can still hear the wheels turning inside the box like it is really struggling to run its basic operating system. When you type something into a web page text box, there is a lag from when I press the key to when the letter shows up.

I have Windows XP and an AMD processor (I don't know which one).

Thanks

Hi there,

[SEE BELOW FOR UPDATE]

Ive scanned my computer with the latest update from Trend Micro PC-Cillin and Adaware [and now SuperAntiSpyware SEE BELOW] although it did not find the main purpotrators, it did find a few other things, the main one called NJDSREGS.EXE, which it removed.

My "Run" option is not appearing in the start bar (the Windows+R key brings up "Disabled by Admin", and until recently the Process manager would not come up, with the same problem. So I had to search and create shortcuts on the desktop for CMD.exe and MSConfig.exe.

My Computer is a 64 bit Athlon running Windows Media Centre Edition.

I have disabled almost everything in the Startup Tab of msconfig, and still problems.

Hi-I'm back. I was here last fall, and it helped. Thank you! I seem to have a bunch of greyware, spyware and at least one trojan (if not more). I have done a number of online scans with Trend Micro, and even though it's supposed to clean the computer, this trojan keeps reappearing. My computer is running very slowly, acting like it has memory problems, when it doesn't as I upgraded my RAM from 268 to 768MB last fall. Browser pages which were loading very quickly are slow. Hello pacificoast, Welcome back. I am not seeing much in you log, so lets dig deeper. You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan. Disable your antivirus program and go here to run BitDefender Online Scan. Click on I Agree. Avoid clicking on other links as you don't need to try out the full install at this point, just the online scanner. When the ActiveX Control has loaded, click on "Click here to scan". Please be patient, as this scan may take a few hours. It all depends on the number of files on your computer. NOTE: If you are running XP SP2, you may need to click on the Information Bar to allow the ActiveX to install and may need to repeat the BitDefender Online Scan. When BitDefender completes the scan, select the "Detected Problems" tab. Click on "Click here to export scan". Save the file as an HTML to your Desktop. Then click on the saved file and allow it to open with your browser. Go to Edit - Select All then copy/paste that log back here. Post the BitDefender log.******************Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner? by Atribune DO NOT run it yet. My mozilla firefox just yesterday began to act very slowly. Switching between tabs has taken forever and just opening a new page takes a while. The bookmarks tab, and any other tab at the top for that matter, cannot be opened. I click them, then get the outline of the window, but the image behind is shown, like it is frozen. To exit i have to use alt + F4 or the ctrl + alt + del then end process. Once that happens the computer runs as normal. At the windows manager, i also notice that firefox.exe is using 50% of the CPU usage and 170,000 K of memeory. IE on the other hand runs perfectly well, even if firefox is open. How can i fix it? Incase it is malware, I have included a Hijack This! log.

Lately, my computer has been running more than frustratingly slowly. I'm almost hoping I have some kind of infection rather than having to face the reality that my computer is just out dated, so I here I am with a hijackthis log. Or maybe there's running processes that I could kill...anything to speed up this piece of junk. Some of the symptoms of this slow thing: Explorer is right now running at 17,284K, which seems to be excessive, but I can't say for sure. Also, my CPU usuage is routinely at 100%, and this hasn't always been the case. It is only 1.4 GHz, but that seems like it should be enough for everyday browsing. Anyway, here's my HJT log. The problem I have is when I click Internet Explorer to access the web the computer slows down considerably. For example if I click on an icon the computer will only respond a few seconds later, I can type a number of words before the letters are displayed in the entry box etc. However the computer performs normally when using email, publisher, word, xcel etc.

The operating system is Vista and have up to date Kaspersky Internet Security.

I havent recieved any error messages

Where should I start?

it appears as though i picked up a virus by merely visiting a website. i use firefox, i never get pops-ups and now everytime i open firefox i get pop-ups, and when i accidently clicked on one, 48 internet explorer windows popped up. it was so fast i had to wait until it finished. on top of that, this virus has slowed down my computer, and i cant access all of the websites i used to, including gmail.

i used spybot but have mostly been using adware constantly. ad-aware has found various things but still hasnt been able to find whatever this virus is. i just ran a full adaware this morning, it found some malicious objects, removed them, asked me to restart, i did, but then once i clicked on firefox, popups galore, everything slow to run, and cant pull up all the websites i normally do. so ad-aware is not working on this issue

any thoughts, help would be appreciated. frustrated and as you can probably tell not particularly computer saavy.
thanks.

Dear helpers,

Recently, I've noticed that firefox loads certain pages slower. When this 1st happened, I tried explorer, but it also load slowly. Chrome sometimes loads these pages fast, but other times hang. When firefox hang for a certain page it simply says "waiting for pagename.com". I'm quite sure the problem is in my computer and more specifically with browsers, since I can get good speeds and download files fast (using bittorent and such). also, I tried to connect the computer to a different network, and got the same behavior with my computer, whereas an other computer on that network loaded the same pages I tried very fast (at the same time I tried).
When I work in safe mode with networking the "problematic" pages load at lightening speeds!
I tried to run combofix and it helped, but after a few days the problem returned, and now combofix won't help anymore...
I hope that makes any sense to you, and that you guys at the forum would have some ideas.
Many thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 home premium Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: AMD 350 E 1.60ghz
RAM: 4 GB
Anit-Virus - Trend Micro Titanium (just expired)

Everything on the computer has recently started to run extremely slowly - response time to clicks in many seconds. Biggest issues seems to be when I open Chrome or Firefox, the response time for typing is extremely slow - often I will get the "(Not Responding)" in the title bar - but it catches up with itself after a few seconds. After rebooting the computer, opening Chrome, and checking task manager, there are 13 processes running for Chrome.exe. Same thing for Firefox processes when I run that.

Hi,

I am having problems with my computer where Internet Explorer 8 is running slowly and crashing. I have checked the event logs and noticed the following errors:

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 8.0.6001.18813, time stamp 0x4a6621ae, faulting module Flash10c.ocx, version 10.0.32.18, time stamp 0x4a613d79, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0023e55a, process id 0x85c, application start time 0x01ca2c79de31429a.

Failed to load the plug-in module. (GUID = {56F9312C-C989-4E04-8C23-299DEE3A36F5})(Error code = 0x80042019)

I am currently running Windows Vista and have Norton Antivirus installed. The internet explorer erro message above shows up in the log numerous times but often has a slightly different message e.g isntead of having Flash10.ocx it sometimes has other dll names.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks for your help.

Mike.

Hello,

I recently installed/run AdwCleaner v4.110 and let it delete some files and registry keys on my Vista pc. I was just trying to clean some traces of old/residual infections. Everything was fine prior to the install. Now windows explorer stopped working as well as my installed programs have selective start-up. Sometimes they start, other they wont.
Firefox would default to its home page, but I cant open anything further, no web search, simply unresponsive! Everytime I type web address or google search - nothing happens. As for IE, it shows "internet connection".
I tried to run/update Malwarebytes but it wont let me. I tried rebooting in Safe Mode but it did not help, I get the exact same issues as in normal mode. Another problem is that there are no Restore Points as I had System Restore turned off.
Here is a copy of the AdwCleaner log file:

I went to my computer today, and it froze up. On attempt to open task manager, I got the blue screen and shut it down. When I started it up again, it took close to 45 minutes to an hour for it to start up fully. Explorer.exe brought up error messages constantly, then I also got a few from adobe, WerFault, and several AVG messages. Its finally up and running, and I was able to access the internet. I'm currently running a malware scan, but I doubt it will fix very much. I'm literally afraid to restart my computer again.

Ideas?
Thanks.

A:Extremely slow startup, explorer.exe running slowly and crashing

Yes, first as you state don't shut it down. Leaving it run won't hurt it, just shut off your monitor when you are finished for the evening.

Second, have you done any recent updating of drivers, etc.? If I read you correctly this is the first time this has happened, right?

How to find and post your Minidump Files:

My Computer > C Drive > Windows Folder > Minidump Folder > Minidump Files.

It is these files that we need (not the folder). Attach to your next post the five most recent dumps. Notice the Manage Attachments button at the bottom when you go to post the next time. You can Zip up to five files per Zip; if you only have one or two you don?t need to zip them, just attach as is. Please do us a favor and don?t Zip each one individually.

Hello, I am having problems with IE 8 on my desktop. I am connected to the interent wirelessly using a network adapter and using Windows Vista for my OS . I am connected at 4.8 m/bs and the connection status is excellent. For some reason IE andy other browser Goole Chrome will connect but it will take a very long time just to even load the home page or visit anoter site.

I have not had this problem before and was surfing the Internet very fast a few days ago with the same connection speed and status. I have already tried deleting cookies, history, temporary files. Ran a virus scan. Ran a disk clean up and reinstalled both of the browsers does anyone know a solution to this problem or has had the same problem on the past?

A:Internet Explorer running very slowly; wireless connection excellent

You could have a bad add-on.Try running IE in No Add-ons Mode. Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) - If this fixes the issue, then go to Tools -> Manage Add-ons and enable the add-ons one by one to find which one was causing the problem.

You can also try resetting Internet Explorer's settings by going to Tools > Internet Options and then the "Advanced" tab, and click "Reset..."

Let me know if this solves your problem.

Cheers,
Bryn

I've run spyware doctor and windows defender to try and get rid of this stuff. Windows Defender doesn't find anything and spyware doctor always finds medium and low risks which I always delete. Also, after every reboot symantec antivirus finds "InfoStealer" in my documents/settings/local/temp folder and it's always some random amount of letters with .dll after them. Firefox is my browser. I run windows on a Dell Latitude D620. I'm pretty sure I have Windows '03.

Less than 4 days ago, I began getting popups in Internet Explorer every 3-10 minutes despite browsing exclusively in Firefox. Each one is an ad, usually vaguely related to the website that I am visiting (a few are surveys). Attempting to rid myself of the problem, I have:
1) Run Temp File Cleaner and removed temp programs.
2) Set a new system restore point
3) Run ERUNT to get a valid registry backup
4) Run Malwarebytes and deleted everything it found
a) Malware bytes was giving me a "code 2" error so I had to download and install the MBAM.exe file under a separate name
5) Uninstalled Norton antivirus and installed Avast antivirus. Ran a full scan and put security on the highest setting
6) checked that my firewall was secure
7) In "Add/Remove Programs", removed uTorrent from my computer
8) Performed a RootRepeal scan

So far I have found and deleted several trojans and other pieces of Malware but the IE popups continue.

I have scans from MBAM, RootRepeal and OTL. Please let me know what I need to post moving forward.

Thank you,

KAK

Please help, my computer isn't very useful right now. Here's the deal:

1. My computer keeps on freezing up on me, and I don't even have many programs running. When my computer finally starts up, I log onto windows, and it takes seriously two or three minutes for windows to load; two weeks ago it took 20-30 seconds for windows to load. When windows finally loads, and I click on a program (ie. Internet Explorer or Opera Web Browser), it takes another five to seven minutes for one the programs to appear on the screen, then another minute or two for the program to load. When I close a program, it does one of two things; my computer will freeze, and I'll have to restart it; or, it will take a couple of minutes to close the program. And I'm just working with the basics; Internet explorer, opera, open office, and windows media. I'm trying to add music to my newly added iTunes library, but that's almost impossible.

2. My computer won't shut down. This computer is only seven months old, it's too young for such problems. When I go to shut my computer down, I select the shut down icon from the start menu, and expect my computer to shut down. Rather than shutting down, windows pop up telling me that the programs that I had been running are not responding, and I have the option to wait or end the program. I end the program, and the window comes up again, it's almost like my computer isn't properly responding to its commands. Again ... Read more

Computer runs normally after boot up until accessing the Internet in IE or Chrome.  Normally I an IE user. I installed Chrome today just to see if the problems persisted; they did.  Once the Internet has been accessed there is continuous activity in the HDD and all operations with the computer become very slow.  For example, right clicking on a file, folder, or a shortcut takes approximately 60 seconds before a pulldown appears.

Attempting to re-access the Internet with IE when there is continuous activity in the HDD results in a white screen with a blank address bar and the browser hangs.  If a shutdown is done while the computer is in this state, a message is received that a program needs to close (even when it appears that no programs are open) and a brief message goes by with verbiage having to do with Task Host Window.

When there is continuous activity in the HDD, disconnecting from the network results in the HDD activity ending and a return to normal HDD activity.  If I reconnect to the network, after a few moments, the continuous activity resumes on its own.

There has been no obvious malware activity on this computer.  The symptoms I describe above began on February 6.

I have run the following tools before making this post:

FRST

MBAM: no malicious items found

ADWCleaner: a few malicious items were found and removed

Update
Since no one has had the chance to respond to my topic, let me post this update.

I belive the problem has been found:  In recent days, upon launching Microsoft Outlook (my e-mail client), the loading of the Norton Anti-Spam Outlook Plugin has taken an unusually long time.  Today, upon launching Outlook an error message was received regarding the plugin and I was offered the opportunity to disable it, which I did.  The high HDD activity stopped and the computer has been running normally ever since.

I ask that a helper comment on my FRST log if there are things that need to be addressed and I will follow the helper's instructions.  Otherwise, please feel free to close the topic as the problem does not appear to be malware related.

Thank you.

Family computer was having trouble with IE 7.0 running at all, so we started using Mozilla Firefox 1.5. (Biggest complaint is facebook is extremely slow)

IE 7.0 works for a short period of time and then we get the attached error and Mozilla Firefox constantly redirects me to other sites in the middle of working. cativern.com seems to be a popular choice.

I'd like to clean this up and then put more security on my system.

Attached is a hijack this file.

Is this enough information to start?
Thanks.

Hello,
I have been having a number of problems with my laptop in the past day, the most recent being that it is running very slowly. I will start with the problems that i had before this and how i fixed them.
Last night I was not able to boot past the windows splash screen without being greeted by a BSOD. It indicated that a driver was preventing windows from being started. I searched this driver and saw that it was related to the program Daemon Tools Lite. I booted in to safe mode and removed this program, which allowed me to get to my desktop.

I did notice however, that despite being able to get on to my desktop now, It took an unusually long time to load past the spash and login screens. Once on my desktop, everything was running very slowly. Applications took a very long time to process and open, and even something as simple as a right click has a significant delay before bringing up the menu. Upon testing programs i learned that trying to interact with Google Chrome in any way (including attempting to uninstall) would result in my computer freezing and having to be hard reset. So once again I booted into safemode and removed then reinstalled Google Chrome. It no longer freezed my computer, but it has not solved the slow problem.

So just to summarize, everything is running very slowly regardless of how many processes are currently open. This includes trying to open programs, windows files and menus/taskbar. When in safe mode with networking, none of these problem... Read more

I have Windows XP Pro with SP2 and recently it's been running extra slow, almost all my processes are using more memory than usual, and I just got the blue screen of doom about an hour ago. I've tried to clean it out, and check for problems but nothing makes a difference I've also been getting random IE popup ads even when I havn't been using the internet. I use Opera anyway and they still come on

Well, I'm COMPLETELY uneducated in the "hijack this" log's.

With that said, I'm pretty sure I see two different anti-virus programs taking up space at the same time.

I'm guessing you are using McAfee and you used to have Norton. Norton IMO has a tradition of using up resources and can be hard to uninstall. (kinda like a virus!)

There is a special remover that may help. I stress MAY.

Either way, I don't think having two anti-virus programs of any sort running at the same time is going to help you.

May be the problem. Maybe not.

I'd get rid of one or the other though.

Hi there,

I've already posted recently concerning problems with one of my sons' computers, so here is the 2nd one (running XP).

No error messages, no viruses, spyware or malware etc found, but the whole system is running very slowly. I thought I'd solved things when I got rid off 150,000 temp files, but, while things are a bit better, it's still not real good.

I've had some issues with a programme called SweetIM from Macrogaming, but I think I've managed to get rid of that.

Oh yeah - nearly forgot - when I try to shut down, I get one of those 'The program is not responding' messages for iexplore.exe. When I hit 'End Now', it goes to a 'Ending Program - please wait' message, but then back to 'The program is not responding'. And it continues in that loop 'til I stop the process using Windows Task Manager (and even that takes a few goes to open).

And one more thing - I sometimes get a message saying that 'Spooler SubSystem App has encountered a problem and needs to close' and inviting me to tell Microsoft about the problem.

Anyway - here's the log file. Any help much appreciated!

Hallo,

The performance of my laptop (Toshiba P100-160 Satellite Pro, Vista installed at purchase) has dropped off over the last couple of months and I am not sure why.

It is somewhat erratic, but can take 5+ minutes from turning on to being able to start an application. It can take a couple of minutes to open a Word/Excel file in Office 2007 (dunno why I didn't get OpenOffice...) and much longer if opening from the web.

Occasionally it can totally freeze for a few minutes making clicking noises before it starts working again.

When typing here, or using clients like MSN, I often find that I type much faster than the text comes up on screen, and find myself waiting to see if I made any typos (and I'm no touch-typist).

I was just living with the slowness until I went away for a couple of weeks with a friend, taking her MacBook which was lightening fast in comparison.

I have tried a number of things to improve the situation:

Moved all my photos from notebook to portable hard drive
Moved all films to portable hard drive
Removed a stack of programs from the start-up menu
Defrag hard drive
Clear temporary files etc

I also changed some visual settings in windows to try and put less strain on the processor, such as removing transparency.

Removing photos and video means I have 47.4GB free (of 91.4 available). I'm surprised there is that much space taken up as I removed a whole load of games etc too.

The thing that takes longest is probably using Windows Explor... Read more

Hello,
I am being harrassed with popups from explorer. Most of these are blank, some have addresses. This happens when using firefox. Usually 3-4 will pop up. I have run spybot search and destroy. Before I ran this it seemed the popups were more frequent and most had content. There was also a program installed without my permission installed on my computer. I cannot remember the name, this was several days ago and I removed it, hoping that would solve the problem.

A:Explorer popups while using firefox

this computer needs a LOT of help!! i came back for summer vacation to find my parent's computer really messed up.

first of all...norton antivirus picked up several viruses that apparently cannot be cleaned, only quarantined: downloader, trojan horse, infostealer, and trojan.vundo

second, i tend to only use mozilla firefox, but random internet explorer popups appear from time to time, i'm not certain what type of popup they are because unlike the normal popups i've seen, they don't usually occur when something is opened or closed, but appear when i'm in the middle of an already fully loaded page.

lastly, and this seems to be the biggest problem, the computer randomly crashes while i'm online. i can still use the internet and use any program already running (but can only maneuver using alt-tab) but cannot open any new programs. in fact, the start bar? (bar on the bottom of the screen) disappears, as well as all the desktop icons leaving the only way to shut down the computer either by forcing it (pushing the power button) or by using ctrl-alt-del and shutting off from there.

please help! and i'm sorry there are so many problems. thanks so much in advance.

I'm not sure what's wrong. When I use the internet, the pages take a really long time to load. I can't watch videos without it buffering every 15 seconds. This started a couple of days ago after I downloaded spybot search and destroy. I used it on my computer for the first time and I guess it messed something up with my configurations?

I also keep getting a popup that says "Connect SVCamera" while I'm trying to access different sites.

Please help.

Ok so my windows is running extremely slowly... its lagging all over the place. For example as I type this message its not going smooth but skiping few letters since im typing it fast. The folders and programs are opening extremely slowly... I had this problem for a while now but it wasn't so bad but the interesting thing is that it keept comming and going, but now its quite bad and slow.

So far I have:
Deleted my temp files
used disc cleaner and cleaned the disk
Defragmented
Cleaned up my computer with a spyware and anti virus program

Restarted the PC
Nothing.. infact its lagging more than ever now...

What to do?

It also takes quite a fair amount of time to boot up btw.

I have 261,664 KB Ram, Windows 2000 service pack 4 and 59.6 GB of free space left. When i play my game(Warcraft III Frozen Throne) it takes a long time to load and it lags a lot. It lags so much that i've been banned and booted out of some games. I was just wondering if I had a virus or if you could help me make it run normally . This problem only started this year. I have been playing for about 3 years and it has never run this slowly. This problem also effects my whole computer, not just my game. It takes a long time to open files, open internet explorer and everything just runs EXTREMELY slow !I would be very grateful if you could help me get rid of this problem! Thanks!

For some strange reason after using my computer for a while without switching it off it begins to run excruciatingly slowly in some aspects. Opening a new tab or connecting to a different site takes about 20 seconds in Chrome, however a link from one youtube page to another is almost instant. Occasional crashes occur though.

Firefox is extremely slow though and completely unusable, it consistently crashes. I never use Firefox, I always use Chrome. So this can't be a Chrome issue.

I get the same with applications, opening new applications takes ages but when they are open there are no problems.
(Like left clicking to open up the toolbar is instant but clicking the properties button takes ages for it to open).
My CPU usage stays almost at a constant 2% and memory is currently 43% of 16Gb used.
I am using raid 0 ssds and have two drives
C: 28.2GB/118GB Free <-- Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1 is installed ahoy
Z: 58.3GB/212GB Free

Have the Inter(R) Core(TM) i7-3930K @ 3.20GHz

I will not be doing any defragmenting since I have ssds (Although I did used to defrag the C: before I found out why it was bad)
I have Avast antivirus that doesn't detect anything wrong with my system at all. However I question how good Avast really is since apparently I've never gotten a virus on this computer yet.

This has happened before on this computer, however last time I fixed it by freeing some hard drive space. And once it happened on my laptop where I re installed Windows... Read more

Hello,

I'm using a Compaq presario 2190 with an intel celeron and Windows XP. Some time ago, I had a really bad virus and brought it to a local computer repair shop. The technicians fixed my computer, or atleast as much as they could because lately, it takes forever to do anything, including: shutdown/restart; browsing the internet; opening any programs on my computer. I noticed that even with no other programs running other than those started by the OS at startup, the system idle process occupies the CPU at or above 90% but when I look under the performance tab, the CPU is running at around 40-50%. Maybe this is part of the problem, maybe not, just trying to give you guys some more information. Also, i have Norton Anti-virus installed and just upgraded about 1 month ago, it doesn't catch anything wrong. I have also tried to delete other programs I don't use to free up memory but it hasn't helped. Now, I am unable to check my mail or even visit the hotmail.com website, but I'm not sure if these 2 problems are linked.

I had originally posted in the malware removal section, but after 4 days without a single reply even after bumping, I'm assuming i posted in the wrong section??? However, I posted there because I believe my problem is virus-related. Any and all help would be greatly apprectiated, or even a reply at this point. Thank you in advance.

A:Solved: Computer running slowly

Norton does not catch everything - it is written in stone, some archeologists recently found...

You need to download, install and run the free versions of AVG anti-virus, anti-spyware and anti-rootkit.

Download superantispyware and do the same. Also do the same with Spybot Search and Destroy.

Download CCleaner (cr*p cleaner) and run its cleaner feature (registry cleaner works great for me but some people do swear at it rather than by it)....

Overall, I, if you, would just backup everything I need and format the hard drive.

Let us know...

I recently "upgraded" to Firefox 6. Everything is fine, except that the spacebar takes a good couple of seconds before the cursor moves along. This happens in almost every site I type in, including, annoyingly, Hotmail. Obviously, this makes it almost impossible to type.

I tried downgrading back to Firefox 5, but still had the same problem, so I reinstalled 6.

The spacebar works fine in Internet Exporer, but I generally prefer to use Firefox.

What can have happened, and can anyone offer a solution?

Many thanks.

A:[SOLVED] spacebar running slowly

Did you have this problem in Firefox 5 before you updated to 6?

Do you have any addons installed, and have you tried running Firefox with them disabled?

If spell-check is enabled, try switching it off. (Tools > Options > Advanced tab > Browsing section)

Hi All,

I've noticed over the last few days that my laptop is running really slowly, painfully slowly.

Every now and again, I get a popup trying to get me to install an upgrade for flash, but the banner at the top of the webpage says something about it being an add, so I just close it. I haven't noticed anything else suspicious apart from the slowness.

By slow, it only seems to be the internet, but not as in connection speed or bandwidth. I use IE and Firefox, and if I have several tabs open, and I click on one, it will take maybe 5 seconds to switch. Even clicking on something in the menu bar takes ages, and typing can be temperamental as well.

I've tried Avast and Mbam and they didn't pick up on anything.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Dom

P.S. Running windows 7, firefox 19.02
