Suggested Extention for FF

Q: Suggested Extention for FF

Hi friends,
I am an exclusive FF user (except for MS sites ).
I found a very good extension for FF which I would like to share with you. Its called Flashblock 1.5.1. Go to Mozilla homepage>extensions and search with above name. You will find it.
It stops all the flash materials on an webpage and gives you an option to allow it to play it or not. As most of the flash materials are AD so it also increases your security.
My yahoo pages are loading lightning fast now. Try it & LoL.

A: Suggested Extention for FF

Thanks src. Another one you might want to install for extra security is NoScript which blocks all javascript, and has an option to block flash as well. It puts an icon in the status bar which you can click to allow java/flash for a particular site if required.

I am trying to down load a music file (it isn't copyrighted). It plays beautifully on the web but when I try down loading it shows up as a WinZip file. Seems to unzip OK but when I try playing it on the latest Windows Media player the sound is horribly distorted. I noted the properties of the file are listed as *.MID.giz. I suppose the added giz is a problem. Just what is it and how does one convert it to a standard MIDI extension?

Could you give us the link to the file, so we can have a look at it?

Hay Yall,

I have a Librarian that has a problem with IE 6. She has to run these reports off everyday in a .PDF format. Every time she clicks on the link it pops up a box that says "Some files can harm your computer. Yak Yak Yak...." She goes to open the file which brings up a new box. Which asks her to select a program to open the file in which is Adobe Reader. It works everytime, but the next time she tries to open the file it makes her go through all the steps. The one thing that caught my eye was the "Always ask before opening this type of file" checkbox and "Always use the selected program to open this file" checkbox are grayed out?? Why are they grayed out? She is an administrator on her computer. It is probably an easy solution but where?

Thanks in Advance

As it was being sent, I got the Avast warning siren and the message--"Very suspicious extension of attachment". I cancelled the message but I am confused. I can't understand why it came up clean on the Avast scan and then get an Avast warning whilst sending the mail. If anyone could shed some light on this, as always, I would be very grateful..nor69

does this mean regedit was infected? or is this more a windows-vista business version?
My pc was infected before by msjuan trojan but i located and removed origin and deleted the register enteries induced by the trojan. the ony strange thing remaining is this finding by hijackthis.
any helps or suggestions?

It would help if the exact entry found in HJT was posted.
That being said, HJT isn't supposed to be used as a preventative scanner - and should only be used when specifically requested by a member of the HJT Team for a specific type of infection.

Also, I'm moving this post over to the "Am I Infected?" forum where you can find the security experts.

Hi Guys, i need some pointers on how to change the extension of a file. To be precise, i have a wmv file which incidentally has an exe extension after the wmv extention. (example: latestknuckleheads.wmv.exe).

I need to get rid of the the redundant "exe" extension plaese.

All suggestions are welcome

Thanx

A:How Do I Delete Second Extention?

a second extension of .exe suggests a virus/worm or trojan
it is very common for downloaded files to contain these infections especially in media files

please do this first to check
go to http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HijackThis.exe and download 'Hijack This!'.
make sure it is placed into it's own folder, not a temporary folder. Then doubleclick the Hijackthis.exe.
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

I have two routers at my house. My primary one I have set up for gaming and most of our computers are on it. However at the other end of the house we have a second one that our front computer hooks into as well as our house phone and that router hooks back into our main router at the back of the house.

At current the front router works independently for its IP addresses. My question is can I make that front router only work as an extra four ethernet ports(plus as a wireless booster which is what I mainly use it for with my laptop other router is too far away) without it handing out its own pool of ip addresses and keep it on the same pool as the back ie instead of handing out ip's 192.168.39.xxx it would hand out ip's from the main router like 192.168.1.xxx?

A:Using a second router as a network extention?

what your trying to achieve is called "bridging", most routers have a setting for it, mine does and its a belkin (you dont say what makes you have), in your router setup it should have a section for it.

If so, go to the makers website for the manual on how to set it up.

Hi guys,

I have a problem. I dl abt 39 files with the format of 001, 002 etc. I found out they were HJSplit bits and used the program to lump them up. I got a 500mb file with the extension of xxxFile. I have no idea what the hell it is.
Then i read your forums and tried to unrar with Winrar the big file only to be stumped by "you need .x00 to contiune extraction."
then i tried to winrar the bits; only to be told that there are 7 files corrupted and hence unable to retrieve the .bin file. One important observation here was that when i did it, WinRar kept retrieving from the files. Like it runs through the whole set and it would have only complete 3% of the job. then it runs thru them again. I didnt wait to see it complete. Shld i?

In any case, pls help me to unpack. I'm really frustrated. And yes, the bin file in the bits is about 600 mb and when i lump it, its just 587 mb to be exact. Is it wrong?

Okay... forced to install XP on my computer... and trying to get things in working order.

I have a bit of an issue with the FILE TYPES function... I need to VIEW their extentions.

When I try to set those for GIF / JPG / PNG and BMP - The advance button that usually sits there turns into RESTORE. What moron decided THIS was a good idea? The Restore and Advanced buttons should always be displayed... or the Restore inside.

Anyways... I do some web-site work, and having a file being names Jpg vs jpg can mean big problems...

Anyone?

My friendly WinXP trick for Win98 users: WinXP includes Media Player 6.4. It is here: C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe

Go into MediaPlayer 8~9, and turn off all file associations (or ones you don't want) and the run MediaPlayer 6.4 and make it your default player. Also, it has an OPTION to have the control bar pop up in full screen mode. It's better as its smaller code, less space, and the whole window is a PAUSE button... and I don't think it logs your videos and audio files, unlike Mediaplayer 7~9.

A:WinXP - won't show extention!

If you want to view the file extensions then open folder options in control panel and view tab and uncheck the "hide file extensions for known file types" box.

Hi, about 2 weeks whenever my windows xp professional, SP3 starts up a warning window pops open saying this:"the configuration file "programdatastorage.const." in the program folder will be updated. Create before exit?. I cannot remember doing big changes to my PC to cause this error, and I cannot even find this file it is referring to. The .const seems to refer to an extention but there is no such extention, is there? Anyone know why this might be popping up? And how to I get rid of it?

My problem is fairly simple and I haven't found an answer after three hours of searching. The problem I'm having is that I recently changed a file extension default by mistake from .mpq to Notepad. Unfortunately I happened to have the "Use this program for all file extensions of the same type" box checked off. How can I undo this and change the default program back to (what seemed to be) an unknown program?

Open the folder that you want to change the extension in, hold down the shift key and right click in the folder choose Open command window here and use ren

All my Extention files turned to LNK links. I cannot manually change them using the change default program settings. So when I change the properities of one link it changes them all. I could really use some help. I recently completely eradicated a Root-kit virus that was causing pop-ups and extension problems on my Windows 7 64 bit operating system. Although it is completely gone, I now have over 19,000 files that have been made into .block files that were before that .docx, .doc, .txt, and more. I figured out how to change individual documents back into their proper extensions (.block - .doc ) but would rather not go through all 19,000 files individually and change back the file extension.

I have also noticed that after I change a .block back into a .txt that all the characters come up as a series of random numbers and characters. Also when I change a .block back into a .doc Microsoft Office 2010 refuses to open the document. (Microsoft Offices document recovery program built into Microsoft Office doesn't seem to do the job) I have about 20-30 documents that I really need to open and cannot replace ...

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix either of these problems?

A:How do I unassociate extention types in Windows 8.1 ?

file association can be found in
hklm/classes/root
change the open .dat to blank
export your reg file before editing. I've tested and works fine. Or choose a program to use.

Example I have neroshowtime opening my dat files,
in .dat key, i'd delete the data,> Neroshowtime.files9.data<, then I'd delete the key >showtime.exe<

Hallo Guys,
One of my favourite programs is notepad++.
It is quiet small and fast, but has a lot of functionality.
But now I have some Questions about it:
Notpad++ got syntax highlighting, that?s great!
Now I want to assign a highlighting schema (xml) to a special data extention (trvml).
So that if I open a trvml file the XML syntax highlighting is used.
Does anyone know how this could be done?

A:Notepad++: Assign syntaxhighlighting to data-extention

Look in the Notepad++ install folder under program files (x86).

Find the file called langs.xml

Change the properties on it so "users" have "full control".

Edit the file.

look for the "<Language name="xml" ext="xml xsml xsl xsd kml wsdl" commentLine="" commentStart="&lt;!--" commentEnd="--&gt;">" entry near the bottom

Add your new extension to the ext="..." list.

Save and restart Notepad++

Preliminary report is that our photoshop 5.0 is corrupted. But worse is that the .tif files created in photoshop 5 and 4.0 have changed extensions to "datafax" type as reported by windows explorer. Even all files on our zip100 disk have changed. How can we recover these files and does anyone know what could have caused this. We have Faxworks pro (which has been on the computer for years) and a new fax program by trio has just been installed (most likely the culprit). For what it's worth the only other recent addition is a trial version of "rapid remote" by quarterdeck which allows computer to computer contact via modem.

A:{Solved}.tif file extention changed to datafax

Do you mean your .tif files are opening in your fax program?? If this is the case then locate any .tif file in windows explorer, select the file then hold shift and right click on the file, you should get an open with option, click open with and choose the graphics program you wish to open it with (Adobe Photoshop) and check the box saying "Always use this program to open this type of file".

Hope this one helps!

So, I was having problems with my .dat file type icon, and in frustration trying to get rid of the icon and start all over again, I deleted the file type in the registry.

Will this cause problems in the future, even though I re-added it in the registry? I don't see any problems with them right now, but I didn't know if I might have troubles in the future due to this.

A:I deleted my .dat file extention, will it still work if I re-create it

To change the icon, you are to change the program association for .dat file.

If you add it back, there should not be any problem.

Greeting;

During my latest round of file maintenance, I came across 2 files with a weird sort of extension: .Lck. Curiosity led me to another marathon stretch of google-ing for information - much of it contradictory - and left me more exhausted than educated.

Some sites said it's a device for locking a data base, and others swear it's some sort of malware. I swept my system with both the standard Malwarebytes scan & their anti-rootkit utility and came out squeaky-clean, but I'd still like to know what I have before I just toss them out. So naturally, this was the first place I thought of if I wanted to get a straight, no bull answer.

I won't attach them to the post, but here's what I found:

MS.WINWORD.12.1033_1033_MValidator.Lck
Hx_1033_MValidator.Lck

I found them both at C:\ProgramData\Microsoft Help and they share the same basic properties (see attached .gif). The files scan clean, and if they are some sort of evil thingy, they're likely to stay that way, 'cuz I have no clue how to open them.

TYIA......

p.s.: that number - 1033 - has been popping up all over my most recent crash & BSOD reports. Creepy, ain't it?

When I receive an email in outlook express with a pdf file attachement, I can't open it from outlook express. I can open all other attachements like .doc or .xls no problem. I have to save the pdf file and then go to the loacation I saved it at and I can open it up with a double click per normal. I checked the folder options and the assocation is fine as evidenced by the fact I can open once it's saved in a folder. This seemed to start about 6 months ago when I upgraded my adobe reader 6.0 to Adobe 7.0 full version trial. When the trail was over I decided to only use the adobe 7.0 reader. It seems like the problem started then. The error message I get in Outlook express is;

"This file does not have a program associated with it for proforming this action. Create a file association in the folder options controll panel."
In the blue header it lists the Temporary Internet files location under local files directory.

Any help on this one?

A:Suggested Hjt Log

Hello healing41 and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I see no signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean.

Fragmentation isn't really a malware issue. It is just a natural occurance that happens over time. XP has a built-in defragmenter and there are many 3rd party disk-defragmenters. It is good to defragment a drive occasionally but unless the disk is heavily fragmented and the free disk space is less than about 10% of the drive there will probably not be a noticible performance improvement. The 2 files that will have the biggest impact from fragmentation are the swap file and the Master File Table which can only be defragmented with 3rd party defragers. NTFS file systems handle file fragmentation better than the old FAT system found on older operating systems like Win98 so an acasional defrag with the built-in XP utility should be Ok.

Cheers.

I am looking for a tool that will rip cd's into MP3 format, and write/rip blu ray discs easily and quickly. Whats the best software out there for this? Also, I don't think that windows media player plays Blu-Ray discs, so I was hoping someone could show me a good program for playing those.

Thanks

For ripping, try WMP itself. It's pretty good at ripping music CDs and the like into MP3.

Not sure if I have put this in the right place but here goes
1. Browser Choice. In Europe we get this option. But when it is taken (I stayed with IE10) the Browser Choice App remains and I cant get rid of it. There seems to be no means to uninstall it. Tried various sites on the web nothing works.
2. In the useful tutorial on backup using W7 recovery in Control Panel there is an option to backup system image to an external drive. I have one @1Tb but it starts then says cant proceed drive full - when it clearly is not. Any ideas? Is it not possible to backup the system image to SkyDrive ?
3. I do not use the Start Screen (Metro) as such but do put into it useful stuff that I need at odd times eg Administrative Tools. There seems to be no way to resize or recolour the tiles apart from "large" or "small". This is a nuisance as it gets too big to fit the screen. I found a site on the web that says it does this but my Rapport tells me it is unsafe so I have not tried it.
4. Is there a way to sort a block on the start screen(Metro) alphabetically without dragging tiles around one at a time.
5. A tutorial on each of these would be grand. I have found tutorials truly useful generally.
Thanks

I guess the IE is messed up resulting this behaviour. The best thing to do would be to reset IE to default settings then try to turn off suggested sites might fix it.

Hello there, guys!

So I seem to have been infected with a virus of some sort, I've been browsing the Security forums for about a week now and I've seen that there are others that have encountered the same problem as me.
Mine however, is a bit different. I think.
So basically, this GoSave 2.0 extension tool that I have in Google Chrome keeps attempting to run in 'Developer Mode', it also refuses to be deleted from the extension list. I have no recollection of ever downloading this tool, let alone searching for it.
I'm lucky to even be posting this topic to be honest, for the past few days I've had to run several System Recoveries because everything on my laptop wipes whenever my Panda Internet Security 'neutralizes' the infection.
It generally starts off with my laptop slowing down heavily, sound cutting off, internet cutting off and then everything from iTunes to my Computer Panel being completely 'removed'. When this happens, anything I try to open literally doesn't exist any more on my laptop.
I've tried searching for files or programs related to 'GoSave 2.0' on my laptop and deleting it, but I have been unable to come across anything at all.
I've read the 'Preparation Guide' and I've backed up all of my important documents, pictures etc. Here is the DDS.txt file:

My four(?) year old system's getting a bit slow, and I'm wondering what my next upgrade should be, so any suggestions on this would be most welcome.

My "Behemoth" is:
333 Celeron @ 416MHz (tho' I might be able to get it to 500 with a good heatsink/fan combo(?!))
BX motherboard
192MB SD RAM
Sound Blaster Live Value soundcard (bought as OEM)
Intel i740 AGP Graphics card
32x CD-ROM
4.75 GB HD (speed unknown) <b><- Edit: added</b>

My OS is Win'98 SE, and the main apps/progs I run are games and mid-level graphics programs like Photoshop 5.0 and GIMP.

A:Suggested upgrade options

Your system does not sound like it would work well for games and graphic software. I wouldn't recommend a Celeron processor for that type of work.

I would recommend a high-end Pentium III or a low end Pentium 4. Don't buy the high-end Pentium 4's since they are overpriced and the benefits do not warrant the high cost.

For gaming, you should get a really good graphics card. Some other people here could probably recommend some good ones. Unless you're playing the latest and greatest games, don't spend the money on the best high-end graphics card. Purchase a step down. You'll save a great deal of money without sacrificing quality.

Your CD-ROM is fine. You only need a DVD drive if you plan to watch movies on your computer or a specific game only comes on a DVD.

Your RAM should work in a new system as long as the motherboard supports SDRAM. All but the newest and most high-end systems do. I would bump it up to at least 256 for games and graphics.

If you're not comfortable building your own system, look for local computer companies that assemble computers from various parts. That way you'd be able to use your components (memory, CD-ROM, memory, maybe hard drive, sound card, case).

Hey everyone.

I used to have an old wifi but it's that old the software I used to use to set it up doesn't even run under 7. This isn't really my problem though since I was pretty sure I'd have to update anyway. It's unlikely it would be able to repeat a signal from an N router let alone use anything better then WEP.

Anyway. I was looking for suggestions on getting a good repeater. I saw this one: Best Wireless Repeater | Wifi Repeaters Boosters and Range Extenders which looks pretty good. I've never used anything from Amped before though so I'm kind of tempted to go for a Netgear or something instead.

I was also considering buying a router and setting DD-WRT up but I don't know how they compare?

Cheers for any advice.

I can't say I have heard of Amped before (besides the drink...), but at work we have had good success with Hawking range extenders.
