Firefox risks user backlash by adding search box to new tab page

Q: Firefox risks user backlash by adding search box to new tab page

Quote:

Mozilla has pulled a "Chrome" by adding a search box to the new tab page in Firefox 31, which reached beta status yesterday and is slated to ship in final form on July 22.
Along with the nine thumbnails representing the user's most-frequently-visited websites, the new tab page in Firefox 31's beta sports a search field near the top of the window. Typing a search string in the box initiates a search on Google, unless the user has changed the default search engine. If the Firefox user has changed the search engine -- say, to Yahoo or Microsoft's Bing -- that choice is also used in the new tab page's search box.

Ok people I have a very nice project in my head, but to archive this I need help

I am quite new to phpBB forums cause I used to code my own, but I lost my own template in php so I don't want to do it all over again. So here's the real question.

I have a website registration form. and I want to be able to connect to phpbb database and insert the stuff required for the user to be a registered user on the forums.

So I know some basic stuff what I have to add, but is there a complete tutorial of what I need to add to the database.

Thanks in advance for all those who help

Using Mozilla Firefox. I have set Home Page as blank, so the initial screen is blank. When the + to open a new tab is clicked the page is always displayed as a FIREFOX START page displaying a GOOGLE Search in the middle of it. (happens on at least v-24.0 thru 26.0 beta)

How in the heck do I get rid of it... ?
I do not want to see GOOGLE stuck in my face even if I will not use it.. Damn!
Thanks

When launched, IE and Firefox open to dp-search.com instead of their normal home pages. I am able to change the home page back, but once I exit the browser and start it again, dp-search is the home page. Has not affected Chrome. Was not detected by malwarebytes, microsoft security essentials, spybot search & destroy, or avast! free antivirus. Need help removing this adware/malware.

Hi, I accidentally downloaded the Tuvaro virus (if there is such a thing) so that whenever I open Firefox I'm directed to their stupid search page:

Tuvaro

I searched online for solutions to my problem and uninstalled a program from my hard drive (sorry, but I forgot its name; something to do with search), but I cannot find any add-on or extension on Firefox that is causing this redirect. I've also reset Firefox too, but nothing changed. It's still being redirected to Tuvaro! The instructions I've found so far on the internet have not solved my problem at all.

Can anyone please help me? I've attached a few attachments that show you my problem:

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Review Jacee?s instructions to run Adwcleaner here post #7,
Ignore the title of the thread,
Instant Savings App
Screen shot of the download button to use for Adwcleaner
You can use these free tools to see if they find anything,
Manually Update them before running full scans,
Try not to use your computer while the scans are running, (one at a time of course).
Uncheck the box to Activate the Free trial from the final install options,
Also use the Custom scan option not the Threat scan,
Select the drive to scan usually C,
If your really infected check the box to scan for Rootkits = this scan option will take several hours to complete,
Never use your machine while scans are running for best results,
Please Do Not clean/ Delete or Remove Any detections before posting the scan results first before review especially Malwarebytes,

Hello,
I'm looking for a way to give a user admin permissions for his regular AD account on his computer.
Example: he is logged on as a regular user but needs to install software.
I want to give him admin permissions until reboot or some other point in time after which he loses his permissions again and has to ask again.

I know giving admin access to users is a bad idea and all, but that's how it goes.
with "whoami /logonid" I get an ID that I can add to the administrators group by code like this
$objUser = [ADSI]("WinNT://$id")
$objGroup = [ADSI]("WinNT://$computer/Administrators")
To my amazement, this works: now the user can enter his own credentials in a UAC box and get admin access. After a reboot/logon this ID changes so he would need to ask admin permissions again.
It's possible to ask the user for a motivation and log this and to also clean up the administrators group at a given interval or at boot as well as check if a user is allowed to elevate his rights on this computer. Of course once a user has admin rights
he can circumvent all this, but that's something we have to live with. What's most important is dat not just anyone can elevate his rights.
I'm looking for opinions on this way of working. Anyone have experience with this mechanism? Is it reliable and secure (as far as giving admin rights to a user can be secure...)? I may be missing something.

Three days ago, I decided to uninstall a number of programs I haven't used in years.
After getting rid of 7 or 8, I re-considered my decision on Audacity. Consequently, I downloaded and installed its latest version. Afterwards I turned the PC off for the night.

When I booted up the next morning, IE opened all on its own.
"scodef:608%20credat:14337" appeared in the address bar. The error message it displayed read:
"The webpage cannot be displayed. Most likely cause: Some content or files on this webpage require a program that you don't have installed."

I typed in other url's and opened a number of "Favorites" and was able to surf without any problems. Since then however, whenever I close IE it immediately re-opens to the same page and error message.

The version of Internet Explorer I'm running is IE8; the OS is XP sp3 fully patched.
Neither installed security software or online scans show any evidence of malware infection.

Would appreciate your help.

Anybody got any ideas what is causing this software behavior.

Do you mean you have another topic covering the same problem?

If so, you should post that you are receiving help here and mark the topic solved otherwise you might end up with conflicting advice.

Now

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
Right click to run as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will produce a log called (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run from.
Please copy and paste log back here.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please also paste that into your reply.

Hi,

I am using Crystal Reports XI and my report is printing out invoices and working perfectly, but on the back of each page I need to print out some information that isn't part of the database, just a text box (terms & conditions).

So first page will be invoice data, the back of that will be text, the second page will have invoice data if it goes past two pages, and the back of that will have the text.

Please let me know if this is possible or if I need to explain better.

Thank you
Parisa

A:Adding a second page to reports

parisa
I may not be fully understanding your needs.
It sounds like the back of form will be static (ie non-changing).
If so, why not print back page first? Print 100 copies, lay aside.
When ready to print invoice, load preprinted paper (turned over and oriented correctly) into printer and print invoice.
Is this close or is it way off of your needs?

Let me explain what I am trying to do because I am probably going about this the wrong way. I would like to include a link or a button alongside this so the tune can be played.

Thanks in advance.

A:Adding Sound to web page

It will have to be downloaded regardless unless you have a server that can stream the particular media you are playing. In general they will play on the end users PC if they have the application to play it with.

You can do it this way as well and the player will be on the web page with a start and stop button.

I have just u/g XP Pro to SP2 (this is the 5th machine and only one with issues!). Logged in as the admin, all is fine. When I add a new user and log in as that user, not all of the software that should start up automatically does. Specifically, Spywareblaster, Spywareguard & Spybot-S&D do not start. I can manually run them, but they should become memory resident automatically.

Also, after logging in as a new user, MS Office 2000 starts its installation routine again...everytime. It is installed and running fine for the admin.

Any ideas? I have scoured several forums & MS support, but cannot seem to find this info.

Thanks.

Did you verify that the spyware programs were installed for all users and not just the current user? Some programs are not "NT friendly" and do not install for all users by default.

Microsoft Office is working as designed. For each new user, it will run an installation/configuration routine the first time it is launched.

You do have a distribution group named Everyone? Open that group and see if they are actually set as members.

this is probably a pretty dumb question, but my mind is a blank ...

I am running several computers plus assorted printers and an NAS box (LaCie 1TB drive) on a home LAN. All computers are running WinXP SP2. When I added the NAS box and a sharepoint, I added a single user (me). When I tried to access the NAS box from different computers, everything seemed to work fine. But what I neglected to test was accessing the NAS box using an account on any of the computers that was different (acct name and password) from the account that set up the share in the first place. So, I recently tried to access the NAS box from another account and could not. I had to log into the share using the original account name and password.

So, how do I add additional users? I can not seem to find a hook into the share attributes to add users.

A:Adding Network User

What's the model number of the NAS?

Chances are you add users in the NAS's webpage.

So, I'm sysprepping Windows 8.1 with an answer file set to CopyProfile=True.  I log in to my customized account and sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown /unattend:unattend.xml.  Everything copies over just fine.  I get my layout in the Metro
start menu, etc, etc...

However, when I log in to the default profile I originally customized after sysprep, everything works great.  But when I log into any other account created during sysprep or thereafter and I hit the windows key and do a search for "Update" -
and select "Windows Update"  I get an error:

Title: C:\Users\ORIGINALDEFAULTACCOUNT\AppData\Local\Packages\windows.immersivecontrol.....
Message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file.  You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
It's not every single shortcut... Only a certain fiew.
I get a nearly identical message when trying to launch "Programs and Features" from start.  If I manually navigate to these controls, they load up just fine.  Just the search items seem to be pointing to the wrong point.  Is there like
a cache that copyprofile seems to be copying over for some reason?
I've tried modifying the built in administrator account thinking Microsoft has gotten a bit stricter on which account I can use, but I get the same error.

Can anybody help?

A:CopyProfile causes search shortcuts on all users search screen to point to the default user profile

Ok.  So.... after updating the image as of yesterday, this issue has disappeared.  Same image.  Haven't done anything differently.

I can actually use my base image, not run updates and replicate the error, but updates between the last time I ran updates (couldn't have been more than two weeks ago) and yesterday, the issue has disappeared.

Thank you MS!

Is there some way to make it so page numbers display on the printed pages of an Adobe .pdf file? I converted a Word document to .pdf, but the Word document did not have the numbered pages. I now want to add the numbers in Adobe Reader, but it looks like I'll have to go back to the original Word document, add headers which include the page number, and then re-convert it to .pdf. Is that correct? If I could do it within Adobe Reader, that would be preferable.

A:Adding Page Numbers to .PDF document

The file is a creation from an original Word file, the page numbers would need to exist in the Word file.

It would be a nightmare if in creating a PDF it was able to assign new printed page numbers as these would often not align with the original document and TOC's would be incorrect.

Have a Dell inspiron laptop and want to add my Mr. Wonderful as a user/other account. We put in his user name and he entered a password and confirmed it. For some reason it did not take, perhaps a typo done twice??? Now he keeps trying to sign on and it says PW is incorrect. However, it also won't even let me put my name in to go in and delete the change to try again. We only get the red window asking his password and then saying incorrect and we can't go on? Any suggestions will help.

After a fresh installation of Windows 10 Home 32-bit I added a second user using adding another person, not a family member. That went OK and I went back to some web browsing with EDGE. Within a few minutes EDGE hung and I lost the keyboard and mouse. I had to use the reset button to recover. I did a fresh install again with the one user and the machine is very stable and never hangs. As soon as I add another user, the hang happens pretty quick.

If anyone has some useful suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

Hi All,

Hope I'm posting in the right forum. I have a fairly new Windows 7 laptop. I have one "standard" user account named Jason. I want to create an additional user account for my wife (Kate). The procedure looks pretty straight forward, but I do have some questions.

1. Are all the programs/applications that I have installed for my standard account available to the new user account (for example Word, Excel, etc)?

2. What about browers? I have downloaded a number of browsers including Firefox, Groogle Chrome. Will she be able to use these are must she download her own "copy" of the browser? Guess my concern for browsers is keeping the settings I use separate from the settings she might want.

Hope this makes sense ...... Thanks much ........ Jason

2- if the browsers are installed she can immediatly use them

Hi, I have a problem with adding a profile on a computer. I get a message that says "cannot locate roaming profile" but the thing is, it's not a roaming profile. When I set up a laptop, I add the computer on the domain and then add the user on the computer which is already added on the domain. How can I get this message to stop using the temp profile?

I have tried waiting 30 seconds after the windows screen and logging in, and i have tried deleted the profiles off the registry. I have also took the computer off the domain and added it back on. still no luck. This profile is working because he uses it currently on another machine. And you can have the same profile logged on at the same time in two different places.

How can I get rid of this message and stop using the temp profile?

Hello,

I am building an application that will allow a user to use a ColdFusion interface to add/edit/delete/change passwords in Windows Exchange 2003. While I have the CF code in place, what I cannot seem to find is a command line entry to add an Exchange-enabled user to the domain. For example, I can use:

NET USER testuser password /ADD /DOMAIN

to add a user to the domain. However, this user does not have an Exchange mailbox enabled. A server administrator would still have to RDP in and enable it through the Windows interface.

Does anyone know if there is a way to do this and, if there is, what it might be?

Hi - getting a strange set of problems after adding a new user in Vista Home Premium. Have been using Vista for nearly a year now with no major problems. Only one user on the box, the admin account created when setting up Vista. Tried to use the user migration wizard to transfer an account & settings from an old XP machine. Wizard ran OK but when logged on to Vista as the new user (non-admin) I get the following symptoms:
Welcome centre - bottom half of this is blank, no "show at next logon" tick box either;
Right-click menus (eg on desktop or taskbar) leave the selected menu option on the desktop the first time they're selected;
Open applications don't appear on task bar;
Hovering over the clock in the bottom right hand corner doesn't bring up the date pop-up;
Hovering over the notification area doesn't bring up any pop-ups;
Task manager doesn't update (eg CPU %age) after opening;
GetRight logo stays on screen until clicked.

If I log off the new user and log back in with my normal (admin) account, it then has the same issues. The only way I can recover is to do a System Restore to a point before the Migration Wizard ran. However once restored, if I log on as the new user afterwards, it all goes wrong again.

I've tried the same with newly created accounts (admin and non-admin), the same issues are apparent, a System Restore is needed to recover. Seemingly the only way to avoid the issues is to only log on with the original admin... Read more

I want to add a user to their PC's local power users group so they can do certain things on the PC that they can't do now. I know that in NT this could be done, and although I don't remember off hand how to do it in NT I know that if I were dealing with NT I could fumble my way through it. How do you do this in W2K in an AD environment?

A:Remotely adding user to local group...

The NT way would be to place a batch file on the PC that you want the user in that local group. The batch file would contain the command "Net user <username> <localgroup> /add" (maybe not exact syntax) but you could test it to see if it works in W2K. If not there may be a tool in the resource kit.

Hello
I am trying to add a local user permission to a network folder and I cannot get window 7 to choose the correct scope. WinXp handles this like a charm.
I go start\run \\computername\share
I right click on the folder in question and choose security. I then choose edit and then add
I am going to change "From this location" from the domain to the remote computername
I then type the name of the local user that I would like to add. Click ok.
I end up with the "name not found window"
In the security window if I choose advance and click find. I end up finding only the "Built-in" security names.
I get around this by using XP, but my xp days are numbers are I have been told I have to give up that machine.
Win7 seems to always be stuck on searching for domain names rather than changing the scope to the local names.
hours and hours of searching returns random noise articles about how to set security on folders.

I just upgraded to Windows 2003 server for my domain controller, and am in the process of adding users. But I am having a problem.

Whenever I try to complete the 'add a user' routine, I am told that their password doesn't meet the security policy settings. I've checked and double checked all the security policy settings for passwords (both locally and domain wide), and everything should be working. Do I have to reboot or something? That would be odd for a server....

Help please!

A:Adding a user in Windows 2003 Server

Windows 2003 Server employs the complex password policy, this means the password must be of a certain length (think its 6) and not based on the userís account name. It must contain three of the following:
Uppercase characters
Lowercase characters
Arabic numerals
Nonalphanumeric characters
Try this and see if this allows you to create a user, by default the strong password policy is disabled, so it may have been enabled somewhere along the line. If not post back!

Hi, I am trying to develop a script that a user can run in order to set up our lab printers on a the user's laptop. The printer queues are set up on a server within our AD network. Since the user name on our AD network may not match the user name on their personal laptop, a way needs to exist for them to enter their username/password some time during the script execution to set up the queue with known credentials.
From what I read so far, I found two ways to do this, but couldnt get either to work. First way was to do a
net use LPT4: \\server\queue_name /USER: Domain\username

but for some reason, even though "net use" shows that a printer was mapped to LPT4, when I go to something like microsoft word, and select Print.. there doesnt appear any printers installed. No idea how to proceed there.

Another way I read about was to use the "rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry" with a bunch of parameters, but I didn't see any parameter that would allow me to specify a username (or request a username) during the execution of the command. Seems to me that it uses the currently logged in username, which is not really an option for us.

I also read that there is a more advanced dll from the server resource kits, prnadmin.dll but I have no idea how to use it yet.

Am I missing something very simple in either of the two ways? or is there no way to easily do what I need with batch file, and I need to consider doing something more advanced? Also, if you aren... Read more

Hi,

Is there any workaround regarding adding User Accounts Windows 7 Starter or is it pretty much a dead deal?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

A:Windows 7 Starter, adding User Accounts..

Windows 7 Starter Edition. Can be upgraded to Home Premium.(Not Home Basic) Than you would be able to do alot more features..like add another user.etc.However since you have the Starter version It is a netbook right, or a low level PC? (So as long your PC meets the Minimum Specs CLICK HERE TO SEE)..You would be able to do the Anytime Upgrade within Windows 7 Just Search for (Windows Anytime Upgrade) In the start Menu..

But that is the only way to Add another User and add more features is to Upgrade to Home Premium which I heard was $80 (I think)

Hope This Helps..

So I'm new here have this problem been fighting with for a couple weeks. I'm using Windows xp sp3 home edition 32 bit, FireFox 4.0, Avast free current update /w definitions, Malwarebytes Pro. I have ran scan with both found a couple little malware & virus's that where moved to chest and deleted. Just finished a boot time scan with zero issues found. I opened Firefox went to google.com and type anything into the search bar and 90% of the time I get redirected to [ http://www.goingonearth.com/search.php?q=pot%2Bfarms&n=1302662089 ] then after that to various sites doesn't seem to be any order to that part haven't got the same page twice. I did have Google Tools installed I uninstalled that last week and the problem went away for a few days now it's back. Any more info or logs that would help just let me know Thanks.

A:FIREFOX+GOOGLE.COM+SEARCH=http://www.goingonearth.com/search.php?q=pot%2Bfarms&n=1302662089

So now it happens in all search engines seem to be able to navigate the web fine just can't search for results. OK, Budapest I didn't know that the web console in windows with the list of what google was supposed to search for was a combofix.log I was pretty sure they where two entirely different things. As I don't use IE I hadn't check in it, this issue is the same there also. I've deleted all temporary internet files, from both, deleted java's temp files also. I can't find any process that shouldn't be running, I've checked all my add-ons in both IE & FF there are no unknown add-ons in either.

Hello All,

I am using batch manager in Omnipage Professional 17 to convert batch of PDF files to text files using Omnipage.

Now the problem is i want to add some indicator specifying page numbers to separate different pages of PDF files in my text file.

as an example suppose there is an PDF file with 5 pages getting converted to a single text file using Omnipage then i want to add page number in my text file to separate each page content available in PDF file pages.

I went through help docs of batch manager but do not find any configuration option to do this.

Please let me know if anyone have solution for this.

There's a lot of ways to get picked up by search engine spiders: Make sure your metatags are hidden at top of index page and key words aren't repeated too many times. The more links to your page will assure higher rankings.

Here are the steps I took. Please tell me if I should have done differently.

1. On the server end add the user and computer to the domain in advance.

2. Fresh install windows 10 and make the first username Admin.

3. Once at desktop rename PC to match PC name on domain i.e. Workstation001.

4. Add computer to mydomain.local and when asked for username and password I entered the credentials for the new user.

5. Restarted the PC and signed into mydomain\newuser without any problems.

However now when I try to access the original local Admin account by typing 'Workstation001\local Admin' as the username and then the password. It keeps saying password invalid.

So I logged back into the domain account and tried resetting the password to Admin and then tried signing in as admin again, still no luck.

Currently there are 2 accounts on the computer one of them is a local/domain account for newuser and the other is a local Admin account which I cannot access.

What kind of glitch is this? Should I have not joined the domain through the original Admin account and instead added a local user to the PC 'newuser' and then sign in as that user locally then add them to the domain through their own local account? I didn't think this was necessary.

Have tried deleting the account and starting afresh, but still the same problem. The main account is working fine, no problem with the apps. Also tried Microsoft's Windows app troubleshooter app, but no fix.

I had no problems adding users to previous Windows 8 machine.

Any ideas how to proceed.

Hi everyone.

I recently set up a wireless network at home between 2 rooms. Works very well, and my friend can hook onto the Internet with ease. My ISP allows 3 additional email users, and so we tried to give him e-mail facilities. Oh what a headache!

I have a million questions, but I'm prepared to cut them down <grin> What we did was go to the message centre of my ISP. We gave him a user name and a password etc, and rebooted. All the servers are correct: to receive we have POP3.<ISP>.co.za and to send mail we have SMTP.<ISP>.co.za

He can now compose & send e-mails but cannot receive them. Why? Is there any need for either him or the PC to know *my* user name and or passwrd? How do we tweak his PC to be able to receive emails? I'm sure there's some sort of liaison between the passwords and the user names.on both his side and mine.

The signal strength is graded as excellent. I'm using a router put out by Billion:- the ADSL2+ VoIP/Wi-Fi Router 7401VGP. Platform is XP home on both PCs. We've tried using Netscape 7.2 and Outlook express, It just won't receive, with a message that reads:- "sending of password did not succeed. Mail server POP3.<ISP>.co.za responded: authentication failed.

My settings on the "main" computer are identical, except, of course, I have my own user name and password.

Can anyone point me in the right idrection? HELP!

Hi, I was wondering if it was possible to get rid of that big animated user picture at the top right of the start menu. I have all themes turned off (set to best performance) and went through the start menu customization options but found nothing that would work.

Also, is it possible to add folders full of shortcuts in the pane that displays recently accessed programs? (Ahh never mind, dragged and dropped, but it doesn't slide out a submenu O_O)

I want to get this out of the way. I love the stability and performance of Windows 7 but hate the start menu, it's been months and I still can't get over it. or maybe i have some form of OCD

Hello All,
Today on one of my computers, I added a new user ( my wife ), so she could use this computer and have her own settings and programs separate from mine. Since I'm the administrator of this computer, I added her as a 'standard' account, I guess I thought when I logged in under her user name, the desktop would be virtually like a new computer, much to my surprise..the desktop shows what seems to be exactly the same programs that are available when I'm logged in under my account. Isn't there anyway to achieve this in windows vista ?
Thanks,

Hi All,

(if this message is in the wrong forum, please feel free to move it)

I have been using a Linksys router for a while (hooked to my cable modem)... I was the only user....everything was fine....speed was not an issue (it was fast as ever)..

..now I have a roommate that moved in on the weekend....she just plugged her cable into the router (as user #2) and now BOTH of our connects are terribly slow...i mean SLOW.....some pages take minutes to load, or don't even load!

What can the problem be?? with just me it is fine, but when I plug her in, each of our connections gets slooow!

thanks in advance,

Zach.

A:Router: adding 2nd user slows ALL users' connections!

How about if you just plug her in without your machine? It sounds like her computer may have some malware or spyware that's using the bandwidth. There shouldn't be any impact on your throughput if the second computer is not doing anything, I have a bunch of computers connected at any one time, but they don't impact my performance when they're just sitting there.

Hi and thanks for finding this;

I've had a Dell w/ XP and Office 2003 since '06. Workhorse. Just splurged on a slick little i3 for myself and am giving this horse to my kids.

I set up 2 separate new user accounts so my kids can have their own turf, their own bookmarks, etc, and I can keep one myself as the only admin. I've never set up accounts, but it seemed easy enough (!).

Everything was fine, we thought we were cruising, until my daughter tried to open a word doc on her desktop.

"Please wait while Windows configures MS Office Standard Edition 2003" comes up each time. Then, up pops "A required installation file PA561401.CAB could not be found."

Same thing happens when opening any Office product, even picture manager.

I don't have my old disks here; they are in storage. Any way I can remedy this? Word, Excel, PPT all fully function when I log in, but not from kid account. I trashed the kid accounts and made them full administrators just to see if that would fix, and no luck.

Thanks in advance,
Julie

A:MS Office Not Working Properly After Adding User Accounts

I'm afraid you will need the disks and they will be needed for each account you created. As you found out Windows configures MS Office Standard Edition 2003 for each new user the first time they go to use it.You could use Open Office for the kids and have them use it instead. The Free and Open Productivity Suitehttp://www.openoffice.org/Apache OpenOffice is the leading open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. It is available in many languages and works on all common computers. It stores all your data in an international open standard format and can also read and write files from other common office software packages. It can be downloaded and used completely free of charge for any purpose. And if you already have files from another office package - OpenOffice will probably read them with no difficulty.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenOfficeIt can also handle other file formats including those from Microsoft Office.Hope this helpsRoger

What you want to get rid of potential interfering code in the data HD boot sector is Diskpart Clean Command and not a mere format.

Hi, experts,

I got default-search.net when downloading from a large reputable download site which I thought was a safe bet. Wrong.
My antivirus picked up about 20 problems (the laptop was going mad with its AVG dings advising of a detection. I got AVG to clean up those problems. However, the laptop was running very slowly, so I investigated and deleted the program that I had just installed. Using Iorbit uninstaller, I deleted the program but just at the end of the uninstall process (and before the Iorbit could run its advanced uninstall to make sure that no pieces of the install were remaining in the registry, the program froze and that process was not completed.

I then noticed that default-search.net was had become my default search engine. So I then ran MalwareBytes. This removed the problem but on reboot D-F.net was back again. Then I went into my Firefox profile and found an entry for D-S.net and deleted the line. All was perfect until a reboot. I then installed Spybot but that has not found D-S.net.

What file is re-activating D-S.net in my Firefox browserand how do I remove it?

Long before this, I de-activated MS Internet Explorer as I do not use it - unfortunately you can't delete it as it is part of the Windows system.

Many thanks in advance.

I am noticing that after performing a web search, additional info is being added to the link I select.

For example, if I perform a yahoo search for dresses, then I select Ann Taylor. (the website is anntaylor.com), but instead I see
http://52499.r.msn.com /?ld=4vbTC9SKiWOVGpvqFTINhSgBgmUgc .................... alot of characters ...
The same search and select on Bing provides a similar link.
Eventually you get to anntaylor.com

I just used the above as an example where it is occurring with all searches.

Also, when the mouse is over the link it seems to indicate that it is http://search.yahoo.com/r/-ylt/........miscellaneous characters

A:search engines adding to hyperlinks

It's okay, when you perform a yahoo search, yahoo will make a url for you to direct to destination site because it wants the site (here anntaylor, com) knows that you came over there via yahoo search engine.
Google.com do the same way to announce sites you redirect there via Google.
It's normal and there is nothing to worried about.

To any here who may be familiar with Notepad++,

The title basically says it. I'd like to know if it's possible to add a search engine to Notepad++. Presently it allows me to highlight a word and search Google or Wikipedia. But I'd like to be able to search an online thesaurus site, since NP++ doesn't have a thesaurus plug-in of its own. (I mainly use NP++ for composing text, not coding.) There seems to be no way to add one, but not knowing that much about these things I could easily be missing something.

Just FYI I do have Word 2007 but I often prefer using a smaller program like NP++ for many things but miss the instant access to a thesaurus (for synonyms mainly). I figured, since I often have my browser open anyway, I could get by with an online search at thesaurus.com if I could get NP++ to recognize it. And I'd prefer the ease of a few keyboard clicks in NP++ to do the search rather than having to have a thesaurus site opened all the time in the browser and enter the information manually.

Anyway, thanks for any feedback!

Foggy

(Btw, I'll spare any readers an extended description of my failed attempt to get NP++'s own forum site to recognize my recently created Twitter account (opened just for the purpose of starting a thread there). But that does explain why I'm posting here. Besides I got very helpful NP++ help here the last time I had a question, so....)
