Sounds from computer when nothing is running

Q: Sounds from computer when nothing is running

So the past week or so, my computer's both started to have voices coming from the speakers. Either some kind of music, or it would be a news program. It always happens when noone is on the computer. I checked my task manager and saw that no applications were running but when i looked in the processes, internet explorer was running. Id then end the process and the news/music would stop.

I have run scans on my computer and it has found nothing. Im running Vista Ultimate 64 bit, and just recently updated to IE8 yesturday to see if it would fix the problem but it hasn't.

Any idea's?

A: Sounds from computer when nothing is running

Solution: 1: Create restore point and take registry backup.
2: Delete all temp files.
3: Delete all unwanted software's and security software's from add/remove program.
4: Disable all unwanted services from startup and then remove from registry.
5: Reset internet explorer and then register all .dll files.
6: Scan with spyware removal and trojon removal.
7: Check windows update if found and then download and install.
8: Restart the computer.

Hi I am new here.

I am running Win XP Home SP2 and recently my computer has been making random background noises. Its like an IE7 mouse click. Sometimes it plays ads in the background and sometimes for long periods of time. I have had no other programs open that have advertisements built into at the time. I have AVG Free and it has decteted several trojans. So I stumped upto this point.

here is my HJT Log.

Mind you I did not have IE7 running at the time but HJT picked it up. Not sure... Anyways

my comp.is.always sounding like its running and is going slower then a snail....i cleaned all the dust and stuff out, ive legit tried everything i could do to my knowledge, can someone please help me

A:my comp always sounds like it is running

It's probably time to back up all your data and re-install XP. That usually works wonders when everything seems to have slowed down. And after re-installing, be very critical of what else you install (Applications etc). Only install what you really need.

Another possible cause of slow-down is that the hard drive may be filling up. This leaves less free space for Windows to "breathe" properly. Have a good critical look at what can be uninstalled (especially large applications).

If you've got gigabytes of your own files on the C: drive, consider moving them to an external drive or DVDs (DVDs are the safer option if stored away properly, as all hard drives fail eventually)

Hi there!

I upgraded my sons graphics card for Christmas to a Geforce gtx 960 and I have had a few problems I'm hoping I can get some help/direction here.

I originally purchased a gtx 950 and we were running into problems with no signal and other issues. One of them was that the wireless adapter all of a sudden was not working. I tried a few things I found on the web to solve it and one of them was to factory reset the computer. I did this and it didn't work. We ended up hooking it up to an earthernet cord and it then the adapter started working.

We returned this graphics card and purchased the one above (960) just a slight upgrade.

After installing this card and a new power supply we noticed the computer seems to run slower and always sounds like it is always "loading". My son expressed he has been experiencing problems watching youtube also.

Should I do another factory reset? Or any other suggestions as to what I can research?

Background ad sounds keep running on my laptop. The ads start about a minute after windows starts and keep running, sometimes even two, three or four ad sounds run simultaneously. I have tried various solutions given at this forum as well as many other forums but to no avail. Please help.

A:Background ad sounds keep running on my laptop

You've got a malware outbreak. Download and install malwarebytes or something similar and scan your PC. After that, grab spybot search & destroy and scan with that. If neither of them are successful, run them both again while in safe mode.
(IMPORTANT: Make sure you update them both completely before running them. This is essential, as if they are out of date they will miss modern malware.)

I was wondering if it were possible to split up sound effects from different app's. For example, I want to be able to have sound effects for games running on my headphones while mp3s play on the speakers. The headphones are connected via USB port and the speakers are plugged into the regular sound jack on the back og my PC. I was thinking there was maybe some sort of program I could buy (or even better, freeware) that would make this possible. Or maybe there is a trick that Windows XP lets geeky guys like me do this? Thanks for the help.

I would like to say much thanks in advance for taking a look.

What can I say about this virus/trojan/whatever. Well, it removed my antivirus so I can't scan and therefore have no clue of the name. When I went to click on windows defender within the control panel, it bluescreens. I am unable to run most virus removal programs. This thing is nasty and appears to be getting worse i.e. appears to be randomly blue screening now.

I am currently doing the RootRepeal scan but will go ahead and post this now for fear of another blue screen.

A:Solved: computer beeping sounds when i turn on computer

There are three possibilities here, all related to your memory.

1) You have forgotten to fit your memory back in.
2) Your memory isn't properly seated in its slot(s)
3) You have killed your memory because of not following antistatic procedures.

I'm suspecting it is either 2 or 3.

I have just set up a new computer. (Yes I finally got it)The specs are
Pentium 4 2.53GHz
512 MB DDRam
80 GB HD
Windows XP, etc. etc.

The thing I notice is that unlike my other computers, it groans and grinds a bit, whenever it is active and even when it is not active it makes a few little grinds. This is not the sound of the fan. It is like a rolling, grinding sound. I am sure I am not the first to experience this. What is it Is it normal and is there anything I can do to stop it?

I might add that if I have to send this back I shall go bananas. It took me 14 hours yesterday to set it up, update 38 critical updates, 2 drivers, 8 other updates, put my own proggies on it and generally change settings and stuff. I don't want to go through that again in a hurry.

A:Computer sounds

could be the floppy or more likely the CD/DVD/burner. I've noticed that the higher speed ones tend to make alot of noise. Also, your cache and swap file could be constantly being accessed and you're hearing the hard drive working...you must have a pretty quiet system to hear that.

Since I put in Win 7 over the weekend, I have been getting a new sound. I have been d/l several large (2 gig) files restoring my programs. It seems when the HD starts working extra hard, I hear this "ding, ding, ding". One about every second as long as the HD is working hard. It doesn't seem to interfere with the operation, but I am always suspect of sounds that are new. Anyone have any ideas what that might be?

can someone tell me how to set the sounds for startup, errors, exit, etc on my machine (winxp). the speakers work but I need help with the machine settings.

A:need computer sounds

Start Menu/Control Panel.

In Control Panel click Sound and Audio. (I *think* this is how it is listed in XP)

Sounds tab.

Look at what is listed for Sound Scheme. If it is set for No Sounds click the drop down arrow and choose Windows Default.

Check the box next to Play Windows Startup Sound if that is available to you.

Click Apply.

Ok so I have a simple, but annoying problem. I have no Windows Sound Events like the login sound, the logout sound, and when the battery is low. Every other sound like playing music and running YouTube videos work fine. Even when I turn on my laptop I hear the whole computer startup sound, but I don't hear the login one. I don't understand the problem. I went into personilazation and went to Windows Sounds, but when I select one and click "Play" I don't hear anything. I tried the other Sound Themes and they don't work either. I ran the Fix It program for Audio, and it didn't find anything wrong.

A:No Windows Sounds, but regular sounds play fine

Hello! I have the same problem you have (or had?) with Windows 7 64bit. Everything is working good, but no system sound at all! No sound when I login..no sounds when i insert or remove USB devices..and so on! But sound is ok in youtube or in videogames...how did you fix that? If you fixed it?

Hi all; I have a weird problem. My Dell Dimension 3000 Running XP bla-bla....had no drivers installed when I got it back. Had to download Ethernet driver on another computer to a flash drive. And get it up and running. The writable CD-Rom sounds fine {it has a different driver than the player only] I double checked the driver twice and it is the exact one. I even tried a different cd-rom device and it had the audio quality problem. It just sort of sounds like it's clipping.I don't know where to go next........HELP!

I don't know if your problem is malware related or not, but it sure sounds like it. So let's take a look and see.

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. Open up the result.txt file created. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it back here. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless. Make sure to include the System information at the top of the log as well.

Hi, I have 2 issues and not sure if they are related.
    1. I am getting random music and sound coming through my laptop, i am not running any programs and even happens when my laptop is closed. its a different sound every time, sometimes traffic, sometimes a girl humming and sometimes like someone chatting on a website and once even sounded like porn. It lasts for about 5 mins.
    2. At the same time the sounds started i also started getting problems with IE, error pops up on random pages saying internet explorer has stopped working and then closes the program. It happens more frequent when i try to search why the random sound keeps happening or when i go to tech support sites like this one and try to read posts.

This is the first time i have posted and not sure on what details you need, i did download DDS, and can do that if you require.

    My laptop is a Asus k53sd win7 64 bit OS, I7

I have a feeling its a virus of some sort, but i have tried S&D spyware doctor and avg and none have picked it up

A:Sounds like computer is trying to start something

    Hello ,

when was the last time you cleaned the inside of your tower / case

it could be a fan starting to run faster for your system is getting hot / not saying this is the reason but it could be

when openeing the case pay close attention to the fan that is on the motherboard it has a heatsink for it belongs to the processor and can get pluged / you will need a can of compressed air to clean it out

when you open the case make sure you touch a part of the metal case to destaticize your self or wear rubber gloves to protect your system

make sure you unplug the power cord

    hope this helps

This indicates that the CPU is being fully utilised and has no time to keep the audio flowing. You have a relatively low powered CPU.

    Hello everyone!

I was erasing unecessary things off my computer and I'm not sure if I accidently erase something that I wasn't suppose to or not. All I know is that my sounds on my computer are not stopped working at all. A few times my computer would say a hardware has been found, but everytime I try to install it, it tells me that the hardware couldn't be found. I went to control panel and my computer says "no active mixer sounds." Nothing happens when I try to update my drivers in the Device Manager. In Sounds and Audio it says "No audio device." My System Restore button won't work either so I can't restore my settings. My computer didn't come with a disk so I can't reinstall the program. I'm not sure if this computer came with a sound card, if it did, I wouldn't know where to look for it. Can anyone tell me if my sound drivers needs to be updated, or could there be a virus on my computer or something. Please someone help me to find what out what happened to my sounds. Thanks

    I have a Compaq Presario FS7600
    Windows XP Professional.
    Model number is SR1503WM

    Hello,

Frequently when I wake my computer up from sleep mode, especially if I have been using iTunes or playing music before putting the computer to sleep, the computer will wake up and make crackling noises over the normal sounds it would play. It will still play normal sounds, but the sound is highly distorted by a static, crackling sound. This sound continues to be distorted until I restart my computer, which always fixes the problem temporarily.

I have tried different speakers and headphones, and it is the same problem regardless of these peripherals so I am convinced it is not the speakers. I am wondering if my sound card, itself, might be bad.

I am using Windows 7 on a desktop which I assembled myself. There is a sound card which, I believe, has updated drivers. Sound usually works fine except for these times when the computer wakes from sleep making crackling noises over the normal sounds it would make.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

I know how to change my program event sounds, but don't know what some of these events are for. For example, open, close windows, mail notification are obvious. What are "exclamation, critical stop, and question" for? Is there a way to set up a sound to tell me when a download is complete?

    Thanks

    A:Customize computer sounds

You can do it through third-party software such as Icon Hear It. I had an earlier version of it a few years back and it would let me assign sounds to just about any event I could think of in Windows, including a separate one for completed file downloads (as I recall, anyway). Not sure if the new version has that particular event included---you can contact Moon Valley and ask.

    My computer:

    Nvidia nForce 680i Motherboard
    GeForce 9800GTX 512mb Video Card
    2 GB DDR2 Memory
Intel 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo Processor
    600W OCZ Power Supply

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

One thing to note - I see that there isn't a 8 pin connector for the CPU spot. I only have two 4 pin connectors (but only one of them works for that of the 8 pins available). So I think I need to get a different power supply from Newegg because this one is not right... Doesn't have any 8 pin connectors, only two 6 & 4 pin.

    The noise/problem:

At random moments when my computer is running it makes a weird noise like sort of high pitched, not really loud, just something I notice when its running.

I've had it freeze at times and require a manual shutdown.

ALL 3 LEDS are constantly lit up on my mother board (green, blue, orange) as well the temp LCD thing always says "FF".

(I notice the Graphics Card runs default at 25%. Does that ever change with the workload, etc.? I never hear it change when I go in a game or anything. I am pretty sure that was causing the freezing so I used Riva Tuner to change the fan speed to like 70% with gaming, etc.)

I still get a freeze up once in a while. Usually when I have a few programs open after it being on for a little while.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

So basically, what makes it freeze up and make me shut down? It usually makes a weird crazy sound ... Read more

    Hi,

Strange minor problem but a noisy one. I have 2 altec lansing speakers connected to a woofer (I think), all connected to the computer.

The speakers never did this before. Just started recently. They will make a scratching noise, like static. It wakes me up when I'm sleeping. Of course the speakers are on when they do this.

I realize that I can just shut the speakers off, but I don't want to wear out the knobs and make these speakers have any more feedback than they already do.

Any idea what is causing feedback when the sys is off, and what I can do?

Speakers are in same place as they always have been.

    Thanks..

Hello grreatpop, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might check to see if you may have Narrator turned on. If so, turning it off should stop this.

Turn off NarratorTo open Narrator click the Start button , and then, in the search box, type Narrator. In the list of results, click Narrator.
Click Control whether Narrator starts when I log on.
Clear the Turn on Narrator and Turn on Audio Description check boxes and click Apply.

This has actually only happened one time. But, my computer started playing the beginning of the ghostbusters movie. It played the whole theme song after that and then continued with dialog and sounds. I don't even have this movie on my computer. I opened task manager and didn't see anything suspicious (but what do I know?). It may have been an ad...but I didn't see one on the page I was on. Also, I don't think that there would be an ad that advertised the first 3 minutes of the ghostbusters movie. Has anyone else experienced this?

I am using a Dell Dimension E310 and have lost my sound.

I posted this to the XP forum and we exhauted all ideals from there.

From all appearances the speakers work. I borrowed some speakers and these did not work either.

Right before I lost my sound I had installed more RAM. The other forum said this would not have affect on the sound.

    Any help is appreciated.

    A:Solved: No sounds from computer/speakers

Once you know that the speakers work (test them on another computer) and that the volume is turned up on the pc, make sure in your bios that onboard sound is indeed enabled (if its onboard sound you're using)

I would also click the start button > run > type dxdiag and check the sound tabs. See if there is indeed a driver installed.

Go to your control panel, sounds and audio devices. Check to see that you have your speaker settings set to desktop speakers if thats what you're using, do that by clicking speaker settings and clicking advanced.

Click the audio tab and make sure that the sound playback is set to the correct audio device.

Click start > run > type services.msc, scroll down to windows audio, make sure that it is started and set to automatic.

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head right now. Try those out and let me know how it goes.

After recently installing service pak 2, my keyboard has gone berserk. When I type B, the system speaker sounds, and i can not make it stop doing this. When I first had the problem, if i typed t then outlook would open up, and f opened the search window. I looked up registry settings and changed a couple keys, and this stopped the f and t functions, but not the b function.

Now however there seems to be other problems with my keyboard functionality. Sometimes while typing online, in an editor, on forumns (such as this one), I am kidnapped from whatever i am tryin to do, and and sent other places. Sometimes its my hompeage, in this forumn it deleted about half this message and i had to start over.

I have also cleaned my keyboard to make sure that the ctrl and alt buttons were not sticking, to no avail.

What can be done to remove this background noise?

A:Computer sounds coming through the speakers

No system specs including what type of sound "card" and what type of speakers - analog connected to the PC's GREEN speaker out jack or USB.

Some of those sounds are standard windows sounds that can be enabled or disabled in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound. Click on "Change System Sounds" under the "Sound" entry.

A high speaker volume setting will tend to make those system sounds more noticeable.

If anyone has any ideas as to how i could solve ths problem i would be grateful (knowing that I have no knowledge on computers, just had the idea of filming the crash so i could read the blue sceen that only comes on for a second).
    Thank you

    A:Computer crash after ticking sounds

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
Please attach the DMP files to your next post not to post one.

    If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. If empty (or non existent) please look in the following folders. C:\windows (the dmp should be called memory.dmp), and C:\windows\LiveKernelReports\Watchdog.

    The procedure:

    Quote:
    * Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
    * Zip up the copy.
    * Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

    To ensure minidumps are enabled:

    Quote:
    * Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
    * Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
    * Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
    * Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).

Hey there, my computer has recently started randomly playing music, advertisements, sounds, and people talking!
I know this sounds weird but it's true.
My computer has also detected hlikid.exe as a trojan from AVG (no avg didn't give me it, a poweriso download my friend linked me to gave me it), but i doubt this is the problem as my dad had this problem on this same pc before i downloaded power iso.
I've googled my problem and people have said how annoying it is but no one has told me how i fix this.
Can someone please give me a step by step guide to getting rid of this annoying virus/mal-adware?

    Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
    Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

My computer has always been noisey compared to others I've listened to. A friend put it together for me. I know next to nothing about one. I have a Maxtor hard drive 80g. windows xp. 512mbs ram, pentium4 processor. I'm not sure what else I need to tell what's on it. The problem is this, It sounds as if I have a cd starting up and then slowing down. It's extremely slow. When I reboot it takes a full five minutes. I've only got about 6gigs used on it. Is there something I can do to make the thing be quite and speed up. I have a dial up modem so I know that's always going to be slow. Thanks in advance. Touk

I have had this problem twice now. Its happened after power outages. After a power outage, I have been getting distorted sound in streaming media anytime a program that connects to the internet loads. Distortions being echo effect and slowing down in play back the entire computer also slows down when this takes place. Thus far I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling/updating web browsers. Disk clean and defragmentation and system restore. Driver updates and reinstalls. I have even resorted to using SystemMechanic to try locate and clean any problems. Hopefully someone here will be able to shed some light on the problem before I have to resort to reformating the HD and reinstalling the OS.

    Hello,

I am sorry if I am off topic but I ran into some power options problems. 3 days ago my computer started making very quiet beeping sounds, it happens mostly when I use Mozilla Firefox and Windows Explorer. My impression is that the sound is coming from the motherboard. When I restarted in safe mode the sound disappeared,
so after a very long elimination process I discovered that when I change control panel-power options-processor power management settings the frequency of beeping changes as well. Until now I was using balanced settings (min processor state 5% and max processor state 100%), if I choose high performance (min and max processor state are both 100%) the beeping becomes very frequent almost continuous, and if I choose power saver settings (min processor state 5% and max processor state 50%) I don't notice the beeping anymore but of course I don't want to keep using only 50% of my processor. I am using a desktop computer, not a laptop. Except for the annoying sound the computer works normally. I have Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit SP1. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you may have more at issue here. Check at this link at the list of beep codes for you brand of BIOS chip to see what the beeps you hear may mean. You shoud see the brand during boot up or entering BIOS at the top of the screen.

I am running a Toshiba computer with Windows 8 and Google Chrome as my default browser.

Basically, any videos from any website will load but not play, and any sounds (not necessarily just from Google Chrome) won't play either. For example, when I change the volume of my computer it does not play a tone (when it normally should). I have updated Java and Adobe Shockwave to no avail.

The problem started occurring a couple of days ago. Originally I could restart my computer and I would be fine for a while, but eventually that stopped working. I have had this computer for at least 6 months and have not had any problems with it. Also I ran a quick scan with Windows Defender and it didn't find anything out of the ordinary.

Thank you for your time. Here's an elephant.

    Greetings, everybody.

So, I've brought a computer home from My work place due to being told that it doesn't work and to check if I could find a solution, but. Unfortunately, I am absolutely lost.

The computer doesn't even turn on and nothing shows up on the screen.

I plugged the power cable in, tried to turn it on, and the only thing it does is to consecutively beep in the exact same pattern over, and over and over.

Appart from that, it does abosulutely nothing.

If anybody out there may have an answer, or any suggestion at all on what I could attempt, that'd be very appreciated.

Kind regards and thank You in advance.

The beeping is most likely a POST (Power On Self Test) failure notification. The meaning of a given pattern will depend on the Motherboard/BIOS manufacturer.

Every so often, my computer makes the same type of noise like an airplane does when it speeds up for takeoff. I have a Dell and its not even a year old yet. I leave it on for most of the day and shut it down at night.

Could it be that its not getting enough air and is overheating or something like that? Its a new problem that I've never has happen before. Its been happening for about a month now, about once a day, sometimes twice.

    any ideas?

A:My computer sounds like its getting ready for takeoff!

I would think that the two things most likely to sound like that would be the power supply fan or the CDROM drive (or the equivalent). Putting your ear near the case would help since the Power supply fan will be noisy at the back of the case and the CDROM at the front. Any pattern to when your system makes the noise and has it always done so?

Hello...I am hoping someone can help me with this. I have a Dell Dimension 4700 (desktop), Windows XP. Recently, the tower has begun often sounding as though the computer is turning itself off but nothing seems to happen--i.e., the computer remains on and nothing unusual seems to happen on the screen either. Sometimes it will be just one isolated occurance...but has been happening more frequently recently...sometimes several times in a row. (Sounds like someone keeps pushing the power button to turn it on or off.) THere doesn't seem to be a pattern to when it might happen. Sometimes it happens when the computer has been on but I have not been using it. I might be across the room and suddenly hear the power button blip over and over, but when I check the computer...it is still on and the screen seems fine and nothing has been lost. It just happened again while I was typing this...but there was no disruption on the screen. I searched this problem and saw that others have had a problems with their computers suddenly turning off...but did not see any instances where the computer actually remains on and only SOUNDs as though it is turning off. Does anyone know what this could be and what I should do? I am hoping it is not the hard drive. THank you so much for your help!

I have a laptop. Whenever i plug speakers (especially evident with headphones) i can hear the buzzing and beeping of, i guess, computer processes happening.

For instance, when i minimize or maximize a window, i'll hear a "bzzzzz" of the shrinking and growing.

When i download something, i'll hear short "bzz-bzz-bzz" sounds of what i assume is the data being written to disk.

When i move the mouse cursor, it makes "bzzzzzzzzzz" noises as well.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the audio driver. All i know is that it's extremely annoying when i have to use headphones (which is often).

If there's anything you need to know, just let me know where i can find the info and i'll be happy to post it if it'll help you help me!

I just can't take this anymore!!

    EDIT:

I have just noticed that when i play this gif from a website (http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Image:Turbine_Explosion.gif) the annoying buzzing sounds disappear. What is up with this?!

Ok so as I started my computer up this morning it went through the same noises and startup procedures it always does only after full startup it still is making the noise that you hear when it's processing information. It's been going on all morning so a few hours by now. I checked the task manager and the idle process isn't doing it. If I check out my CPU usage it isn't really being used at all. Nothing is coming across the network. I could let my computer just sit here and it will still make the noise. I've tried restarting but it still does it.

    Any ideas?!

A:Computer sounds like its processing info.

Is it the sound of the processor fan going fast you can hear, a whirring sound?

If so it may be an idea to remove the case cover and blow out the dust bunnies from the cooling devices - CPU fan & Heatsink, Case fan.. with the PC powered off of course

My computer won’t pay sounds and videos!

I have tried the usual things by making sure the sounds aren’t muted.

If I select Control panel – sounds and devices I get at the top ‘Bluetooth hands free audio’. It seems as if the computer thinks there is a blue tooth device trying to connect but there isn’t one that I know of. When I start up sometimes it shows ‘new hardware found’ but there isn’t anything to be found.

If I right click on my computer and select – properties – then hardware and device manager and disable the 2 blue tooth lines in sound video and game controllers it does not help

On the sound icon on the tray at the bottom right of the screen if I select that and options then properties the only device under mixer devices is blue tooth hands free audio.

So I still can’t get the computer to play sounds etc.

A:My computer wonÂ’t pay sounds and videos!

Go to ctrl panel and under sound video and game controllers highlight your audio device>properties and see under device usage if "Use this device (enable)" is there.

Whenever I burn a CD/DVD, my computer's audio becomes choppy, slow, and distorted. This is not just with one application. All sounds from any applications making sounds will be distorted. This not only occurs with my built in Sony DVD-RW drive, but also if I'm burning a DVD in an external optical drive. Although DVD/CD burning does drive up my CPU usage, the highest I've seen it ever get during a burning session was in the 70% range, but it usually stays below 60% during a CD/DVD burn, so this could probably not be the result of my CPU being overloaded. I have Windows XP, a Sony DVD-RW drive, and Realtek HD Sound Card. Could anyone help me? Thanks.

A:All computer sounds distorted when burning a CD/DVD

Rule of thumb is that while burning any CD or DVD, you should not use the PC for anything else.

If the CPU is not 100% dedicated to the task of burning, a coaster will result.
The "buffering" the PC burning software does is also to reserve most of the CPU resource for the task of burning, as it cannot afford to miss one byte of info, the disk will not wait for it to catch up. Hence to act of decoding audio etc has a very low priority.

I think some water may have gotten into the tower when my cup fell off my table, not much but some drops. After that, I can't seem to get it to post. The screen just stays black and the monitor light flashes.

When I remove the RAM there's no beeping, and after being on for a while the processor stays cold but the processor and video card fans are still on. When I remove the video card, it just does the same thing.

The only time it doesn't do that is if I unplug the hard drive, then it just doesn't turn on at all. I was thinking it's either the motherboard or processor but I don't want to replace one and have it still not work. Any ideas as to what the problem is?

A:Computer sounds like it's on but processor cold.

It would be more difficult for the CPU to be damaged by a bit of water, than it would for the mobo to be damaged, but it depends on how much water actually entered your computer.

It's also possible that water shorting out one component could cause others to burn-out as well. First, try to install your processor in another computer with the same Socket. If it works, than your mobo is probably fried. Or your memory could be fried as well, without swapping components it will be more difficult to narrow down the problem.

Another culprit could be a corrupt or fried BIOS chip causing the PC not to boot, but it's most likely something larger.

I have a picture open and when i zoom in and out on the picture is makes a wierd sound .. like from the proccessor... it is very strange and it is making me think i should have stuck with intel.. anyone have any idea why it is making this noise
also i used to have an intel p3 1000mhz and i switched my whole computer over to amd and this amd seems to be running like crap and way slower then the intel ... i think this proccessor is no good or maybee amd is not good but i dont know

    A:Strange sounds from inside computer

the sound is from interference from the processor to the soundcard. happens on intel systems too. if u have good speakers with good builtin amplifiers, turn their (the speaker's) volume to two-thirds of the maximum. then turn ur windows volume all the way down to the minimum, then take it up to a comfortable level. if u hear the interference sound again, lower the windows volume until you dont. this should fix it

btw, amds are much better performers, and have better bang for buck. stick with AMD from now on

What does it mean when you turn on your computer and it makes a sound like a car alarm?

...My computer's been freezing a lot lately and sometimes not booting up all the way (when this happens we turn it off for a while and then when we turn it back on it's OK). Then last night I accidentally left it on Standby all night, and when I hit some keys this morning it didn't wake up. So I hit the restart button and walked away for a minute. Then one of my cats bolted out of the living room all freaked out, and I heard this loud noise that sounded like there was an ambulance driving through my apartment. It turns out it was coming from my computer. The screen was completely black and it was just making this noise. So I hit the restart button again and it did the same thing. I've never heard a computer make a noise like this before, but I'm sure it's a hardware problem... I just don't know which part of my hardware it is that's having the problem. Can anyone help?

I have been currently been having a problem with my computer sounds. This is hard for me to explain but I will try my best to explain it.

During the start of of the computer, after I enter in my password to my account, you would usually hear the Windows start up music. Well I hear it and it sounds very distored. Also I am an average user of Pandora radio and if during times of listening to a station the sounds get electronic sounding if I open another page on a different tab or open a program and it hurts my poor ears.

I have tried to uninstall my sound driver and also have tried updating it with no luck. Any and all help would be great. I am providing both my specs and the hijackthis info.

I just installed Vista on this PC, and after getting everything that I need downloaded and installed, it plays 2 sounds randomly, 1 of which I can't figure out.

The first sound it plays is the sound from AIM when you send an instant message to someone (imsend.wav). The second sound sounds like it's part of some rock music track, about 5 beats long. It's kind of hard to explain, but they both just play whenever they feel like it.

The AIM sound plays regardless of AIM being open or not, and the 2nd sound seems to play any time as well.

I've scanned for viruses/spyware with Spybot, Windows Defender, and AVG, and nothing ever turned up. This is an HJT log (I'm running vista, and it seemed to give me a few errors when scanning the PC).

Reinstallation of Vista isn't an option I'm willing to consider at this time. This also happened on my old PC with XP Media Center.

Hi, i have been having trouble with my computer, op system is Vista, the DVD drive was not always recognised by the computer, when it was recognised it would sometimes drop out when in use, if buring a file it would then fail. After trying many suggested fixes i have now done a clean reload of Vista but for some reason i now do not have any sound, no system sounds and no sounds from DVD or music. Have checked everything obvious, connections, different speakers (3 sets) but still no sound. If you check the speaker settings while playing music you can see that there is sound (in there somewhere) as the visual bar fluctuates with the music.

Ap[preciate any help anyone may be able to provide.

    Thanks you
    Tony

try uninstalling your sound card from your device manager and check if your card is seated properly in the slot. re-install and boot.

Just set up my new Dell 660 desktop and noticed that with Windows Default sounds
that the "navigation compete" sound effect and some others don't seem to be working.
That one sound I mention is the familiar sound you get when using IE and clicking
the mouse to navigate around the web pages but a few others are not working either.
Is it possible that in 8.1 MS has eliminated those sounds?

I went to browse the .wav files and don't see that sound listed.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,

I've got a weird one: I hooked the HDMI from the PC to the television and get great picture, but the sound is weird. I get system "dings" and whatnot, but I don't get the audio from games or YouTube videos. I've already tried setting the default audio device to the HDMI port, but I get sound from the speakers on the PC, not via HDMI.

The video card is an EVGA 750 Ti SC, running on a Biostar HiFi A85W.

    Thanks,
    Jack

A:Get system sounds, but NO YouTube or game sounds. Help?

If you have the Default Audio Playback Device set as HDMI then you should be getting sound only from HDMI. Sounds like that is not happening.

You should have the NVDIA High Definition Audio and the regular PC audio (whatever that is) shown in the Device Manager, Sounds section. If you do not have NVIDIA High Defintion Audio, or only the generic Windows installed "high Definition audio driver (codec) shown for the HDMI audio that could be the problem.

Uninstall the Video Card, in the Device Manager (do not uninstall the drivers) then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the Video Card. See if this corrects the problem. If not, install or reinstall the latest NVIDIA driver.

Getting ping pong sounds in the beat of 3 from brand new Dell XPS with a Vista OS. It is a pretty constant sound. Doesnt seem to effect the computer in any way, but is pretty annoying. Any clues as to what it is?

Every time I try to play music in Windows Media Player no sound comes out of my speakers. I'm not sure if its just Media Player, but I'm fairly sure it's not just Media Player.

When this first started, simply turning the volume up a notch made sound come out. But the sound would stop after a minute or so. Also, it has been making my computer freeze up frequently. I've tried playing music on websites like playlist.com and my computer locks up.

This just started happening today. I looked for hardware conflicts and found none. The speakers work fine. I believe it must be some sort of Malware.

I would appreciate all the help I can get. My parent's Dell Opitplex is making some new sounds and I am concerned maybe its the HD signaling it may be going in the not to distant future. When you are performing various, basic windows functions sometimes you will hear a noise coming from inside the tower like its really speeding up to complete the function, and then when it completes the task its all gone, back to silent. The HD is 2 1/2 years old. Previous to these new sounds is was quite all the time. If anything thinks its something else I am open to hearing that. I live over 3k miles away from them and am set to leave in a couple of days so I am trying to assist them. Thanks and have a great day.

    Hi guys!

I am really a computer noob, and I really need help to figure out the problem I have with my laptop.
Beginning yesterday, my computer suddenly plays random sounds that I think come up from some sort of advertisement or radio dialogues, some last for a few second, some lasts for about 3 minutes or so.
And I am using the Logitech MX Revolution Mouse, and notice my mouse automatically go from click-to-click scroll mode to free spin scroll mode, which I think indicating that my laptop opened a few invisible advertisements.
I try to run spyware and antivirus using PC Tools Spyware Doctor + Antivirus, and everytime I cleaned a few Adware.Advertising and Application.TrackingCookies, when I run yet another scan a few minutes after, I find the same infections again and again.

Can somebody tell me what happened and how I can solve this problem?
    Thank you!

Why is my computer making playing these sounds when...?

Anyone ever heard of the old computer game "Commander Keen"? If you're really familiar with it, do you remember the sounds that played during certain actions during the game? I.e. shooting your gun, entering a new level, etc.

Well, one day when I was really bored a while back, I downloaded the game just to see how well I remembered it all.

I uninstalled it forever ago, but sometimes my computer still makes a couple of the sounds from it. I have a dell laptop, and with that I have a Microsoft wireless keyboard. now, whenever I power on my computer and open windows, the first time I press a key such as alt, tab or ctrl (on my laptop keyboard only) it plays a couple of those sounds. And doesn't do it again until I reboot my computer and press one of those keys again.

Also, it only plays on my laptop speakers even though I have my Logitech Z-5300 THX 5.1 Speakers hooked up and on. All of my other sounds (including warning and system sounds) play over those.

Even though it wouldn't be something you could set in your Sounds and Audio Devices Properties, I checked there anyways and everything is at its default sound. I’ve never changed any of those.

Does anyone have any idea what the heck is causing this?

A:Solved: why is my computer making playing these sounds when...

WOW "Commander Keen"! I have not hear about it in years.

When uninstalling a program many leave peices of themselves behind. So I recommend you try a System Restore selecting a date before you installed it. Otherwise you are going to have to search the Windows Registry and delete any forgotten peice, which is hard and dangerous to do.
