Internet explorer disappears immediately:(

Q: Internet explorer disappears immediately:(

Hello there,

My roomates Dell Dimension 2400 laptop , XP Pro, SP3,
Dual core Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.40 Ghz
2.39 Ghz, 1.00 GB Ram

Is having trouble with Internet Explorer dissapearing immediately and Chrome won't come open and Firefox is slow in opening:(

Joyces brother did something that made her laptop only start in Safe mode.

Not sure all he did but he removed Malwarebytes and did microsoft update.

The Comodo Internet suite Firewall/antivirus is getting an error and won't run

I reinstalled Malwarebytes and ran it and it found a pesky virus I have dealt with alot before called 'My Web Search'. it infected 3 registry files. Whe I tried to run system restore it wouldnt work its earlies date to restor to was 2066!! lol.

Anyway I got it to start normally by runing MsConfig and puting a checkmark by "Start Normally and load all drivers etc." Instead of the "Selected start up option.

It started normally and was fine except for Internet explorer and chrome not working.

I un-installed in add and remove the listed Internet Explorer 7 and 8 in hopes that it would revert to a good copy of Internet explorer 6 like I have done before.

When I open Internet explorer it opens to a plain white window and just hangs there. In task manager it shows in the processes tab but not in the applications tab:( And when you minimize it on the taskbar it has the little "e" icon but does not say Internet explorer next to it on the taskbar:(

That darn "My Web Search" is an incideous virus and after cleaning it winds up after awhile re infecting the laptop malwarebytes finds it again.

Do you think I should uninstall Chrome and maybe go with Firefox (Only working browser) and update Internet explorer back to 8? do you think it will fix it?

Please help me! lol I would appreciate your expertise in this matter. Is there a fix for this?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Greta

In IE x64-Bit, I can't open Tools>Internet Options. I read here: "If you have Spybot Search & Destroy installed open it click Mode, choose Advanced Mode, click Tools, click IE Tweaks, uncheck "Lock IE control panel against opening from within IE etc.".When I chose Advanced Mode, a box opens and asks me if I want to do this. I click Yes and it disappears. A box doesn't open for me to Tweak. Is there another way to do this or another method to get Internet Options to open again?message edited by Hartful

A:Can't open Internet Options. The box disappears immediately

If you can download Ultra virus killer by Carified, install it and run it. Click on "System Repair" Icon, then tick "Reset IE and internet settings", then click "run selected apps/fixes. See if that resolves the issue, link below.http://www.carifred.com/uvk/To err is human but to really screw things up, you need a computer!

Hey, I am having problems with my other computer suddenly closing both Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer applications, such as Control Panel, My Computer, etc...(Windows XP Home Edition)
When i click on either one, lets say the my computer icon, a pop up of the my computer folder thing flashes for a split second then disappears, the computer freezes for about a second, shows only the desktop, then a few seconds later the icons start appearing on my desktop and my start taskbar comes back. The screen is back to normal with no lag, but the my computer pop up is no longer there. The same thing happens with internet explorer, but it just happens alot quicker.
Does anyone know what could possibly be the problem of this, and maybe how to fix it? Thank You in advance.

I am using ie7 and winxp on my computer and have recently had an issue with it. When I try to open explorer the window closes before it actually loads up. Bits of the taskbar keep turning grey as well like the old style windows.

I have tried removing all add ons and resetting internet settings but have had no luck. The connection is okay with other computers. On the problem computer the icons on the taskbar says it is there until I click on it when it disspears. I have tried downloading and running programmes like spybot on it (downloading them onto another disk and then transferring them onto the computer) but most seem to need to use the internet to run them. I cant use the web at all so solutions like installing ie6 dont seem possible either. I have ran hijack this here is the log. Any help would be most appreciated.

Been having trouble with a Windows XP Service Pack 3 machine using the internet, specifically Internet Explorer. IE8 opens but then shuts down immediately with an error message saying that Internet Explorer must be shut down. Was getting this yesterday on repeated attempts. For some reason tonight IE actually opened, I then tried to install Firefox (which had been blown out of the machine somehow) and get the error "Your current security settings do not allow this to be downloaded."Machine is also running much slower than normal. AVG is up to date and hasn't found any viruses, although a tracking cookie alert popped up tonight and I clicked Move To Vault. Firewall is enabled. Not sure if there is anti-spyware running on this, other than AVG. When i open the Internet Explorer, it will open then immediately close. I was able to pinpoint the problem at my home page (www.google.com). I opened IE again, stopped it quickly from opening the home page and then entered another web page. It worked. Then i went back to the home page and it closed again. So whenever i enter the home page the program will shut itself. I also use Firefox as web browser and it doesnt do the same thing. Any help will be appreciated.

Windows update updated my IE6 (working) to IE7. After this, when clicking the IE icon, the IE window would flash up and then close immediately. I then upgraded to IE8 and exactly the same problem. I have tried iexplore -extoff and reset to default in internet options. Still have the problem. Google Chrome and Mozilla work fine. My HijackThis log is attached:

Hi All

I've got to the slitting wrists stage of this problem. I hope someone can help...

I've been getting the blue screen of death recently and upon checking my computer's error logs I found that it was a problem with my Radeon graphics card. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Radeon software but the audio went. I couldn't find the audio driver (long story) so I did a system restore which worked - everything was back to normal. Or so I thought.

Next morning I tried to open IE but upon opening it closed immediately. I've done a bit of research (ON THE INTERNET AT WORK!) and have done a HijackThis log.

It may be a coincidnece but the other day my screensaver changed - it's now a black screen which says Oxigenscr V5.00.0000. Maybe this is a virus. Thank you for your help in advance

In our office there is one site that we have to use Internet Explorer to access. This morning immediately upon start it crashed on two computers(I am unsure if they are related or not). So I have spent three hours trying to fix it and I am not stuck. It is IE 10 (or was) and it is Windows 7. Things I have tried:

1. Running with no addons.
2. Uninstalling then Reinstalling.
3. Doing an sfc scan to see if it was a missing system file.
4. Making sure all required and optional updates were installed.
5. One computer is used sparingly, there is nothing on it but the default programs but ran a virus scan anyway and it turned up nothing.
6. Reset all internet explorer settings.
7. Finally I installed the IE11 beta version and it does the exact same thing.

Having two different IE versions do the exact same thing makes me think it is a system issue and not an IE issue. Both Firefox and Chrome work with no issues.

Just wanted to add that it will start in safe mode with no problems

Just disabled DEP on IE

A:Internet Explorer immediately shuts down upon start

Maybe try running these tools: tool 1, tool 2.

If that doesnt help, I have a few more possible solutions. This is another one: Install IE 10 and make sure all Windows updates are installed (not just for IE, but for the OS).

If that doesnt work, tell me.

I have worked on a friends laptop
windows 7

internet explorer opens and shows the outline of the dialogue box and then the page closes

I have done the following

Trying to re-install - message , version already on PC

Rebooted at various stages throughout
- Went to Turn Windows Features On and Off and un-clicked Internet 9

Hi everyone, New to the forum so thanks for the help ahead of time. Upon opening internet explorer it immediately closes and displays nothing. Also Internet options in control panel will not open at all. The windows firewall also tells me "For your security, some settings are controlled by group policy." This computer is not on a network and is a home computer. I was able to work around it by doing some registry work in which I removed the value on the firewall key. So that enabled me to turn the firewall back on. The service for windows firewall is now started with no errors and is set to automatic.

The Internet explorer problem is more important to me at the moment. I know the internet connection is active because firefox works perfectly. I scanned the computer with AVG and it found so many viruses and trojans it was rediculous. I also scanned the computer with webroot spysweeper and it found nothing but when I open IE it stops all sorts of things like drivecleaner for example.

Yes, I do business on this particular site, click on the login URL, the site appears for a quick moment and disappears. Even sometimes without the quick moment.

For a week or so, when I went to log on, the site came up, but at the same time, a drop down or popup came, which said, headed by Internet Explorer, the message being "Do you want to close all tabs or current tab". Obviously I lose the site no matter my choice. Then a few days ago the popup stopped appearing and so did the site. Grateful for solution, with major thanks. CJ Brehme

A:Internet Explorer Disappears!!!!! Help!!!

Hi,

I just had the same happen to me, i called my internet service provider with no luck...i was told that when i uninstalled Norton, there must have been a shared file deleted with norton that caused my problem, which is very similar to yours i just couldnt access any media player, nor get pictures or access in most websites....i have now installed Norton again and everthing works...i guess now is just a matter of figuring out what shared file is being deleted with norton and how to stop it...and get rid of this Norton which was a waste of my money....gl

When opening a new window by clicking on anything, or at other times such as when converting to full screen, Windows Explorer closes in one of several ways. Most comonly a message pops up saying that Winodows Explorer has stopped orking and must restart, but often all open windows just disappear.

This problem is written all over the internet, but I haven't been able to find where anyone offered a solution. I'm soooo hoping you good people are able to help me.

The computer is Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. When I open IE 11, it appears but then disappears. I find it running in Task Manager, but I can't see it anywhere on the screen. It is neither open nor minimized.

I tried all the usual uninstalling and re-installing, but I can't believe IE can no longer be uninstalled. That just makes no sense to me but nevertheless, I cannot install an earlier version of IE because 11 never goes away, and there are no earlier versions previously installed to revert back to.

I found where one person was telling people to check "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering" in Internet Options, and many responded to let him know that solved the problem for them. However, I am unable to do that. The box is already checked and if unchecking it might solve the problem for me, it is shaded out so I'm not able to uncheck it anyway.

Please let me know if you need any other information, and thank you to anyone who has the fix for this common problem.

You can roll IE 11 back to IE 10 and then reinstall IE 11.

Open the Control Panel and click on Programs and Features.

In the pane to the left in the upper portion you will see View installed updates, click on this.

Scroll down the list to Internet Explorer 11 and right click on it and choose uninstall.

You my be asked if you are sure if you want to do this, click on Yes.

After the IE 11 is uninstalled IE 10 will be listed.  You can now reinstall IE 11 if you wish to.

My Internet Explorer on my laptop will open, but then immediately closes itself down.

It won't stay open, no matter what I do.

Tried to run the virus scan, which removed 2 problems, but that didn't work.

I wanted to update my Norton Antivirus to see if that would find and solve the issue but since the updates are web-based, and my I/E won't stay open, I can't do that either.

Any suggestions?

During the day a cmd window will pop up and immediately disappear without warning, kicking me out of fullscreen applications and being a general annoyance. I suspect something more sinister but Windows Defender, Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware have failed to find the source of the problem and the popups continue to occur.

Being rather annoyed I managed to capture the event in a recording and discovered it was BITSadmin attempting to do something.
I have no experience dealing with BITSadmin but I do know its function so I assume something is trying to phone home, but as previously stated all AV software has not found the cause. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Recently my girlfriend purchased a new computer without preinstalled Windows. I did the installation of Windows afterwards.

She quickly ran into an issue with Internet Explorer. At seemingly random occasions it chooses to disappear and then reappears a short while later. (Video of the issue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPEdUB_WiYI)

We don't know if there are any other windowed applications that behaves the same way as the computer is mostly used for browsing and fullscreen gaming.

What I have tried:
* disabled the peek desktop feature in the lower right corner thinking it was causing the issue.
* ran memtest+ 5.01 which returned no errors.
* reinstalled Windows from scratch, recreating and formatting the partitions in the process.
* disabled all the addons in Internet Explorer.
* used msconfig to disable non-ms services and startups
* ensured all drivers are up to date
* ensured all Windows updates are installed
* used Realtemp to heat test the system

System:
* Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 Danish
* Internet Explorer 11.0.9600.17914
* Intel I7 4790 3.6GHz
* 16GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM (2X8GB)
* NVIDIA GTX970 4GB
* Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 - 3.5″ SATA-600 2TB
* Mouse and keyboard does not have any fancy hotkey/media buttons

Besides returning the computer to the store I'm fresh out of ideas of what to try. Any ideas?

Best regards,
Robin

Hello everyone, im fairly new to this, so please bear with me.

Recently, ive been having trouble with my computer. It started one morning when i went to go check my email. My main browser is google chrome exe so naturally i go to click it. Which is when all this starts -_-. i double click on it, but the program doesnt open. I try to open it by left clicking and running as an admin but still no luck. I soon realize that this is the case for ALL of my programs except Internet explorer, which i find strange considering the similarities with the other browsers. Anyway, ive read previous similar problems on here, and i download Hijackthis. I have a log folder that i can post if needed. Also i see something when i try to open the program quicky enough but i cant make out what it is before it closes. There is also a suspicious search engine called searchqu.com406 that comes up as soon as i start internet explorer Keep in mind this doesnt happen in safe mode, and evrything works fine, just like the computer was regularly before. Ive tried multiple Malwarebytes scans, stinger, (which is still scanning after 25 mins) and AVG (which begins to scan, but then a command prompt comes up and stops it) all to no avail. Any help would greatly be appreciated Please and Thank You

Hi there, this is my first online help forum post, so please bare with me
Firstly, my system is a Windows Vista 32-bit: Service Pack 2.
Ok the problem.

When I log on, all my startup programs start and load up as normal, and then about 2 minutes after login, a message stating "windows explorer has stopped working" then "windows explorer is restarting". This happens twice. Then my desktop goes blank including my start bar, spare the wallpaper. I am able to still run SOME programs using task manager.

This has only been doing it for a day, and no amount of restarts has helped This has never happened before to me. When I run my anti-virus programs they also pick up no threats.

I have found the incident in eventviewer, and these are the details it shows. Note, in eventviewer is displays the information under "application error".

I have a HP "Mini" computer, maybe a week ago, when I clicked on the Internet Explorer (IE) Icon, IE "flashed on" for a fraction of a second and that was all that happened. And, it has been the same thing since then. I have deleted the cookies, temp files, history, etc. and I also tried resetting IE settings to their default settings but the condition persists. Does anyone know of a fix tor this? Thanks in advance to any and all suggestions.

This is a Gateway Athlon 64 desktop running Windows XP Home SP2. Things were working fine until this weekend when Explorer.exe (the desktop, not Internet Explorer) began exiting immediately after launch. It does it once and does not loop, unlike some pre-SP2 problems I remember. There's barely time to see the task bar drawn and then it flashes away. No error messages appear, nor are any related events written to the logs.

The wallpaper is drawn and otherwise the system functions.

I can three-finger launch task manager and see the system functioning. From there I can launch other programs, including substitute file managers, but if I try launching explorer.exe it just exits again.

Different user logins do the same thing.

Safe boot does the same thing, right after I confirm the "Safe boot" dialog.

I imaged the drive so I could mess around without worry.

- I've replaced the explorer.exe binary.
- I've used services.msc to disable non-MS Services.
- I used msconfig to disable non MS startup items.
- I ran SFC /scannow.
- I've done an overlay "repair" install.

No dice. I can do a fresh install but would like to understand this problem.

(Full disclosure tells me to mention Trend Micro PC Cillin 2007 was installed less than a week ago. Multiple scans before with Norton, and since with it and ewido have been clean.)

I googled a few reports of similar problems but no solutions. This has me stumped.

Any ideas?

A:Win XP Explorer.exe quits immediately

Very interesting and sounds similar to my issue. Surfing with several windows opened I suddenly found them disappearing. At first I didn't really take much notice and thought maybe I had even pressed the wrong button with my mouse.

I started to look at the problem and cleared my cache, temp files etc and rebooted.

All of a sudden I kept geting the windows active desktop warning window come up asking me if I wanted to continue with active desktop. As far as I know it is still enabled.

I simply cannot have my browser ( or browsers ) open for longer than seconds, certainly within a minute before they just crash ( disappear ) However it does seem that whilst the page is loading or I am clicking links that helps to keep the browser open.

I have no problem at all with Outlook which is still open and has been used for hours today with no issue whatsoever. I'm open to any suggestion and hope its a quick, easy fix.

Oh, and btw I have run Kaspersky and no virus found ! I ran several spyware progs, again nothing sinister found.

I'm having a big issue here with my PC, I am currently using Firefox just to get support for this due to the fact that Explorer will not open and this is my only personal computer.

Problem:
Upon logging on, Explorer does not start (so no taskbar, icons, etc.) I know this can be a common problem. So, I open up task manager and run explorer, it opens and then closes less than a second later. It does this continuously and will not remain open at all.

I need help with this, very badly. I do not want to deal with losing my important files if I had to go to the extent of reinstalling XP.
How did this happen, you may ask?
I was simply cleaning out some files and NOT deleting anything of real value for windows (as far as I know, just simple music files and setup programs I no longer need). I then went to open a new folder using the start menu, trying to launch My Documents -- It wouldn't open. I close Explorer and run the task again, then this problem started and has yet to be repaired.

Please help!!

I've had a strange 'fault' just appear on my machine - when I try to open a windows explorer window (e.g. just by clicking Computer), the window tries to open, but immediately shuts with a sort of 'ta-da' sound! Also, when I try to run most applications, they just don't start - it looks like Vista (Home Premium) tries for a couple of seconds (I get the timer) but then nothing appears. If I look at the task manager, it will be listed as a process, but it clearly isn't running properly.

I'm not aware of any new software installations or driver updates (but who knows what Vista's doing behind my back!), I've not seen any virus notifications and Spybot (which does run) doesn't show up anything.

I mainly use the machine running Media Center, and that's still fine, but I just had to go back to run something else the other day and found the problem. Needless to say that I've tried restarting with no improvement, and it's fine in safe mode.

Anybody seen this before and have any idea what the cause may be?

Thanks!

Hi,

I'm running XP SP3. When my computer starts, I see the taskbar flash on and then disappear, and the same thing happens when I try to launch the explorer.exe process from the command line. This also happens in safe mode. All system checkpoints from before the start of this problem have disappeared so I can't do a system restore. I've run malwarebytes and not found any viruses. I can launch individual programs from the command line (which I start from task manager), so that is what I'm doing for now. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this I would greatly appreciate it.

I finally bit on MS's armtwisting regarding upgrading my HP Mini 1104 A7K67UT#ABA (2GB, 320GB) from W7 Pro 32 to W10 Pro 32. Note I had no problems whatsoever with the machine on W7. Now, despite an apparently smooth upgrade I have nothing but problems: Display driver is clearly missing. Resolution is correct but the display is not tight at all. Everything looks slightly fuzzy or washed out. No missing drivers or ?s in Device Manager. However, under Display Adapter it only says "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter." Is this right? The biggest problem is constant Explorer crashes. Within a couple of minutes of booting up I always get a "explorer.exe Application Error" box popping up saying "The instruction at X referenced memory at X. The memory could not be written" (in each case X is the same at both places in the sentence but the exact string of characters for X varies each time the error occurs). It generally starts with 0xF852706. Closing the box of course forces Explorer to cause cause the screen to flicker, etc.Basically my newly upgraded machine is now unusable. Googling I've found similar issues people have had at startup or shutdown but my issues are while the machine is running. Anyone who can help I am thanking in advance. I hate MS for forcing this and also am unhappy with HP for apparently not providing proper drivers to ensure that their hardware actually works with W10.

HP only guarantees Win10 compatibility for machines made after August, 2013. Hi everyone,

A relative has recently started having problems with their laptop running Vista Home Basic 32 bit (which came pre-installed with no Windows installation discs).
On booting it up, it gets as far as playing the Windows sound and displaying the 'Welcome' screen, then the screen fades to black as if it's about to display the Desktop as usual, but instead the Desktop never appears; a 'Windows Explorer has stopped working' error message box is displayed and the screen remains black. The only option on the error message is 'Close program'.

I can still access Task Manager, and so far I've tried the following:

-Booting up in Safe Mode (exactly the same issue)
-Manually running explorer.exe from Task Manager (it runs for a few seconds and then gives the same error)
-Booting using 'Last Known Good Configuration' (same issue)
-Windows Startup Repair (no problems found, same issue)
-Windows System Restore (no restore points found)
-Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool (no problems found)
-Running chkdsk (no problems found)
-Checking that the only value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Shell is explorer.exe
-Checking that there are no iexplorer.exe or explorer.exe subkeys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution.options
-Running sfc /scannnow from the command prompt (it gets to 82% and then errors with "Windows Resource Protection could not perform requested operation")

Hello,

since today i've been experiencing quite unusual behaviour of windows explorer. After logon the taskbar shows up for a blink of eye, and then closes. Explorer.exe cannot be started from task manager as well (the same behaviour). Iexplore.exe neither.

I've seen some similar problems here, usually caused by malware, but I couldn't find anything suspicious on my computer. This is HJThis log:

Hi,
I have an elderly Dell Dimension 5100 that I believe has been attacked by a virus, even though I am permanently running Windows Essentials and Mcaffy virus checker (full paid for version). Prior to being Locked Out, Firefox was being directed to various sites, opening a new Firefox window for each. Before that the computer was running very slow.

At start up, the following happens:-

- immediately windows tries to load, I get a dialog box from Data Exclusion Prevention that informs me that it is closing. Explorer.exe in order to protect my computer. The Desktop or taskbar therefore, doesn't load. I cannot access any applications or files.

I have tried:-
- starting explorer.exe from within Task Manager, but this leads to a repeat of the above.
- pressing F8 during startup and selecting Safe mode, but it won't start in safe mode or any of the other options on that screen.
- somehow I found the Restore process and tried to restoring to a point before the problem, but this didn't work either.

Unfortunately, the computer is not able to download the file that you suggest.

I would greatly appreciate any help that anyone can offer Thanks

Hi,
Sorry, although in my profile, I should have mentioned that I am running Windows XP with SP3.

Hi, whenever I boot up my computer, explorer will either show up for about 2 minutes before disappearing, or will not show up at all. It is also absent from the list of processes. If I go into the Task Manager and try to execute explorer.exe as a New Task, the desktop and toolbar appear for maybe 20 seconds at max, then disappears, then comes back, then disappears, etc. It continues this cycle maybe four or five times in total, and then just stops loading altogether. The event log says of this: "The shell stopped unexpectedly and explorer.exe was restarted." I ran a TrendMicro Housecall and removed the malware that showed up there, and removed almost all of the malware there (some of it refused to leave, like Zango, but I don't think adware as mild as Zango could have caused this). Actually, this had happened to me once before, and to fix it I ran a System Restore to about a month before it happened, but luckily for me, there are no useful restore points as options this time around. Anyone know of a fix for this? Apparently it's not completely uncommon, but solutions I've come across via Googling seemed too specific to that person's case and didn't apply to mine.

Hello,

This issue just started about 2 days ago. I went to open windows explorer and it didn't open, but the folder was highlighted. So I clicked it again and it open very fast and went to the right side of my screen and disappeared. If I move my mouse to the right side of the screen and it disappears off the edge, I can click and drag icons to my desktop. Not for sure what has happened, only way I knew how to fix it before was to do a system restore, but now it happened again.

I am running windows 7 Home 64 bit edition

thank you

Greeting Forum Members:
I am running Windows XP - SP2 on my Thinkpad T60 Core Duo. For the past week I am experiencing a strange problem. I am sincerely hoping that I can get help. Thanks much in advance. Here are the symptoms
1. When trying to explore folder names beginning with 'sy', explorer immediately closes
2. When trying to open web sites whose bookmark names begin with 'sy' IE closes
3. Control Panel -> System, window closes
4. If I rename the folder to some other name, then I can open and explore contents
5. I scanned for virus using Symantec Anti Virus, none found
6. Tried restarting windows under 'Safe Mode'. I get Blue Screen (BSOD)
7. When I do Start->Accessories-> System Information, I get an error "An outgoing call cannot be made since the application is dispatching an input-synchronous call'. I can however see some information about the system inthe backdrop.

I ran Hijack this and here is the log. I would highly appreciate if you could help me out

Hey,

I'm just wondering how I fix it when I go to My Documents or Computer, and after a few seconds explorer.exe goes, sometimes it comes back and sometimes it doesn't. It gets really annoying adding the process back again on the task manager.

If there anyway I can make it so it stops doing this?

EDIT - Now when I right click and go Personalize, the screen stays for a few seconds then my screen goes totally black, and it also got rid of my desktop picture even when all the icons and taskbar comes back. This goes for when I go to documents, control panel, computer, etc. I thought I fixed it because it was good for about 10 minutes, then it got worse.

Anyone help please? This is really frustrating.

My Windows Explorer icon disappears daily from the Windows toolbar. I replace it from a second toolbar (MS Office). The icon performs normally and is there when I retire for the night. In the morning all is the same as I left it except for that specific icon is gone. It is easily replaced by either dragging a copy from the other toolbar or creating yet another New Shortcut. If I leave the icon on the Desktop, it too disappears. Could it be I have a setting in some deep menu that tells Windows to delete it? It is not in the Recycle bin either. I can live with it but it is a hassle. Would appreciate any help anyone can offer. Have not found this as an issue on the internet - via Google, etc.

A:Explorer.exe icon disappears daily

welcome
the real explorer.exe is part of the windows file system. it's the program used to show your taskbar and desktop icons. This is a very vital program for windows. however this icon is usually stored in your windows directory, not your desktop. thus most likely something or someone hi-jacked your system.

i would run the 5 step procedure in my sig
and or try to:
run the system file checker = put in your windows disk

go to the run box on the start menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not recognized ) [ space between c and / ]

hit enter

Okay,
Well I consider myself fairly knowledgeable with Windows XP and computer hardware, but since upgrading to Vista, I am WAY out of my element. Lots of learning to do! In my latest snaffu, I did something to make Windows Explorer disappear when restarting/rebooting. All I am left with is an explorer window, the desktop and toolbar are gone. Upon killing the explorer.exe app, and then restarting it the desktop reappears and everything is normal. I DON"T want to do this everytime I restart. How can I fix this please?

I have this problem regarding one of my hard drives. Every so often I lose access to it in Windows Explorer for no apparent reason. Also I have now put it in a caddy and if I pull the drive out and back in, I also lose the drive! Even if I click on 'Scan for Hardware Changes'.
I don't know whether it's a problem due to a failing drive or it's some sort of power saving feature or it's an issue with Windows 7.
The drive is a Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green. It's less than a year old too!

Anyone have this drive with similar issues?

Problem: IE closes immediately, with the pop-up that says, "Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close..." blah blah blah. I sent the error reports. Running Windows XP, up-to-date as of 2 days ago, virus protection up-to-date and scanned a few days ago.

Background: This morning, when I connected to the internet, I noticed the little security alert shield icon, and it said it was downloading updates... I thought this was strange, since I have my settings on "notify but don't automatically download". Just a couple of days ago, this worked, I was notified that there were updates available, and I downloaded them & installed them. This time it downloaded automatically. It was a big one, so I had plenty of time to check it out (make sure something wasn't being hijacked), and I installed Sygate Personal Firewall. When I resumed my connection, SPF let me know that it was downloading from au.microsoft. whatever the rest is, I forget, I just remember it looked valid, so I allowed it. I installed the updates when they were done. I chose to restart later, since I was in the middle of something...

That's when trouble began. After rebooting, Outlook seemed to work okay, then I started up Windows Media Player like I usually do, and that gave me the "encountered an error and needs to close" message. I went to open IE and it gave the same type of error. Then Outlook decided to jump on the bandwagon and do the sam... Read more

After much procrastination on upgrading a perfectly good Windows 7 operating system, I took the leap and successfully upgrading to Windows 10 over Two months ago. After completing the upgrade, I though wow what a great product. All of the installed drives, devices etc. were listed and worked just as before. About 2 weeks ago, I noticed that my Blu-ray drive was no longer listed in File Explorer. I checked Device Manager and it was listed and showed to be working properly. I found similar but not identical issues several forms related to a device disappearing so I tried some of the suggestions all of which did not cause the optical drive to appear as before. Since the drive is less than 3 months old, I contacted manufacturer support and was told that this is a know problem when upgrading to Windows 10 vs. a new install and was advised to contact Microsoft support. The manufacture technician provided some suggestions and was advised that I should not attempt on my own and let Microsoft Support make the suggested changes.

OK, time to weed through the Microsoft maze to find a method to report what I consider a bug, considering that I did not have any issue with Windows 7. First chat session, a Microsoft support person connected to my computer remotely and performed the same procedures that I had already done so I put up with 1-1/2 of them digging though my computer in the hopes that issue could be identified. My terminology may not be correct, but I have my folders set to be saved at power down and to show the address of the folder to the right of three arrows -- Back, Forward and Up One Level.

Sometimes, on power up, one of the restored folders is missing that bar (or whatever it's called). For example, the computer was turned off yesterday with three folders open. When I turned it back on, one of the folders is missing that navigation bar altogether, no address, no arrows to navigate back, forward or up one folder.

Attached is image of normal folder menu / tool bar.

My searches for this bring up issues with IE, but this is a Windows Explorer Folder issue.

Any help appreciated.

Hello! I'm not sure exactly how but I believe I am infected with a virus or trojan that is continually causing the explorer.exe process to crash every few seconds on my computer.

When it crashes the taskbar and desktop icons disappear, only to reappear again when explorer.exe restarts....eventually explorer will

"give up" and stop appearing at all.

I can usually access everything through Windows Task Manager and restarting explorer.exe just begins the vicious cycle over again...

I have ran check disk and defrag...attempted a system restore (unsuccessful)...and even did a repair install from the windows disk....but

the problem still persists.

I have ran some virus & spyware programs but none seem to detect the problem and correct the issue (Spybot and Trend Micro Anti Virus)

The windows event viewer seems to indicate the crash is caused by winlogon.exe which I believe can be used by several viruses (I might not

be understanding this correctly though) Log(there are several of these of course):

Hey everyone, my main PC has been running slow for a few weeks now and the other night I got the Ukash Virus, which locks down the computer after the internet cable is plugged in. After many failed attempts to remove the virus, including starting up in safe mode and running anti-virus software, checking proxy settings and eventually restoring the computer to a previous date using the System Restore, the Virus stopped popping up with the warning screen and instead the computer BSOD'd after plugging in the internet cable and reset itself.

I have used the Windows 7 CD to Format my hard drive and reinstall windows, hoping that this would get rid of either the virus or fix any registry items which may be causing the BSOD. Unfortunately it hasn't, and every time I plug in my Ethernet cable, I get a BSOD about 20 seconds later and then the computer resets itself. Welcome aboard.

Your crash dumps are not showing any finite probable cause. In such a situation, it is better to enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.

Okay so, I am not tech educated in the least, and this is my first time posting in this kind of forum but I am running slim on options. So sorry if this isn't the right spot to post!

I have a Windows 7 computer barely a year old, and this last week it has developed a few issues. I haven't been able to locate any virus's no matter what program I run, and it has persisted despite my attempts to find the cause.

Basically what has been happening is my computer will be running fine working fine, and then it will get some internet issues. No big deal right? Except there is absolutely no way to reconnect to the internet. The wifi isn't the problem either because it will be working for every other device except for my computer. About say 30-40 seconds after this happens everything will freeze. The images, the music, the mouse, everything. I've tried going ctrl-alt-delete but it doesn't even respond to that. Everything becomes completely inactive and the only way to temporarily fix the issue is to force restart it.
There is no time frame for the attacks either, sometimes it happens immediately after start up, and other times it can take 4 hours or more.

I am going off to college soon and need to get this problem resolved as soon as I can so any help is greatly appreciated!

A:Disconnecting from internet and immediately freezing afterwards

Do you get the same problem with an ethernet connection?

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver. If it is an integrated adapter get the driver from the PC manufacturer's web site. Else get it from the adapter manufacturer's site.

What brand and model is the adapter?

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista through 10.

Start - All Programs - Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt. [For Windows 8 thru 10: <Windows Logo> + x - Command Prompt(Admin)]

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine after all three commands; no need to boot after the 1st and 2nd.

Alright, so this has been going on for about 4 months. On occasion my internet will spontaneously disappear for anywheres from about 10 seconds to the longest being an hour. On average its usually a minute or two that it's gone. I have the two computers in my side bar with the globe between. When this happens the globe disappears and most times then a caution symbol appears and says "limited connectivity" I called Sasktel and they really didn't help any and I was just wondering if perhaps this had happened to anyone else or if anyone has some ideas as to why this is happening because it's really annoying.

A:My Internet Disappears

Try these. I am sure one will work

Gateway Support - Windows Vista - Internet/Network Connectivity

Also when it happens right click on the network Icon, at bottom right. Then go to troubleshoot

Hello,

Just to confirm you get disconnected when are using different wireless networks on another country? Do you travel?

It might be an issue with either your Wi-Fi adapter, distance or interference.

My internet connection is fine, so I don't understand why this is happening. Does anyone know how I could fix this problem and why this could be happening?

Hi,

Since three days both internet browsers installed on my PC won't start (IE and Chrome). Or rather close immediately after I start them. (I am entering this thread from my office PC)
I didn't install any programs in between when they worked and stopped working (did copy files from a CD-ROM).

Some things I tried:
- logging in as my wife (we have got two users installed) - same problem
- clearing the user settings of Chrome (i.e. deleting the folder). After doing this the browser works for about 30 secs. and then the same problem occurs (either using it to browse or not using it gives the same result)
- scanned the PC for viruses (Windows anti-virus) and malware (Spybot) ? nothing found
- start IE with extensions off
- I also installed HijackThis. Couldn?t find anything that looked fishy, but did not have an expert look at it
- Using either WLAN or LAN doesn?t make a difference (tried it just in case ? never know ?)

Both programs are the latest version.

Any ideas?

Best regards,
Roy

A:Internet browsers (IE & Chrome) close immediately after opening ???

Hi,

Tried some more:
- de-installed Google Chrome
- de-installed Java
- de-installed IE Google toobar add-in
Didn't work yet
- run a registry cleaner

After restart IE works again. Typing this message from there.

Seems problem is solved although I have no idea what caused it. Didn't like Chrome anyway though because it crashed on me several times a day. Installed it because IE was becoming very slow. But that's another story.

So for now: problem solved.

Regards,
Roy

My computer has crashed a few times in the last few days. I was looking into hardware issues until I noticed that MSE wasn't running. When I try to open it, it opens for less than a second then closes. Windows defender does the same thing. As I was trying to look into this issue I suddenly couldn't connect to the internet anymore. When I run the windows troubleshooter it says "the wired network adapter is experiencing problems". I have no problems connecting to the internet on other computers in the house or through wifi. I'm running windows 7. What should my first steps be? Thanks in advance.

Update: I was able to connect to the internet by using a usb ethernet adapter that I had so that may be a hardware issue.

A:Internet Browsing window disappears

Do you know if you have installed any toolbars lately, or add-ons for internet explorer?
If you have, HiJackThis should be able to disable/remove any that are not familiar. However- only remove ones (such as MyWebSearch), etc that you absolutely know are not supposed to be there.

You should be able to go into your control panel, click on Internet Options -> Programs Tab -> Manage add-ons. You might also want to reset the advanced browsing properties in the advanced tab on the far right.

See if any of this helps, if not, post an RE: and I'll see what else I can find.

My computer, running Win7 Home premium connects to the internet ..... so it seems, as it always has and as it did last night before I shut the system down. But today when I turned on the system shortly after I connect everything slows to a stop, like there is no connection, like it just disappeared. For the first min. or so it's OK and all indications are that it's working just fine, the automated troubleshooting (I'm sure is useless) finds nothing and all appears OK when you look at the connection setup page (image attached). The only thing that has changed that I know of was a bunch of MS updates were installed.

Anyone else have this problem or have in insight into fixing this?
Thanks,

Steve

P.S. I have other computers on the network and they all connect just fine.

Any file downloaded from the internet is immediately deleted, regardless of the browser used (Chrome, Firefox, IE9), regardless of whether or not antivirus software is installed (currently AVG 2013 but this has happened with previous versions of AVG and Microsoft Security Essentials), and regardless whether or not Windows Firewall is turned on. Internet Explorer reports that the download in question contained a virus and was deleted. I've run AVG from a rescue disk and found the computer to be uninfected.

Also tried downloading from Safe Mode with Networking and from a new User Account. Will try clean boot now.

Clean boot didn't work either.

A:Downloads from internet including email attachments immediately deleted

Hi,

If you are having problems with the files deleting immediately on download you might want to download Malwarebytes from another computer to a USB drive or CD and then transfer it to the possibly infected system. You can use these instructions for downloading and running Malwarebytes...

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to your desktop.

Right-click and Run as Administrator mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish. If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan as shown below.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.

The log can also be found here:
Windows 2000 & Windows XP:

Windows Vista & Win7:

I am having quite a row with my PC! I have an HP Pavilion Entertainment Laptop, running on Windows Vista OS with Bitdefender 2009 antivirus.

Several systems seem to be affected...

Firstly, my Bitdefender has an exclamation "pending issue" icon in my tray ALWAYS. When I click "Fix All Issues" it opens a windown that says my issue is "You have Never Scanned Your Computer for Malware", even though I had many times before this all started....probably for the year I've had it. When I click "Fix", nothing happens.

Secondly.....most times when I turn on my computer, or restart it, it freezes on the first screen which is the "HP Invent" screen.
It gives the options to hit ESC for startup, f1 for system info, and so on.
*-SOMETIMES, after being frozen for several minutes, it will go on to a blank screen with blinking prompt, and after several more minutes prompt will read Operating System Not Found. I then am forced to shut down and restart.

However, other times, when I try "ESC", it takes me to a page that, among other info, reads "NO TPM or TPM has problem." It usually takes a few more minutes to start, usually right after 'mouse initialized' pops up.

This segues into my third issue. Once windows loads, 4 out of 5 times and internet connection cannot be found. I'm on wireless, but it won't recognize ANY networks. The only fix for this is to keep restarting, and usually after 5 or 6 rebo... Read more

Sounds like you have more then 1 thing going on. The first thing I would do is get rid of Bitdefender. I used PC Security Shield which is the same product and had the exact same problem with the error and stating that the computer had never been scanned. When I first purchased that product it worked great and it slowly starting taking a **** so I ditched it. Try that and see if any of your other problems go away. The weirdest things are happening on my pc
My Local disk C and D has moved right to the bottom of the list in My Computer.
Nothing is wrong with them, I can access them , but they just decided one day to move to the bottom of the list. Where can I move them back to where they belong, naughty drives..
And don't know if this might be related to the same little problem, but my internet connection disappears every now and then.
I can't find it anywhere, have to reboot to get it back. By this
i mean the actual icon to connect to the internet.
It's not even in my network places. I run DSL, but have set it up so I connect as if it was dial up ( so I can connect and disconnect as i please)
It's been happening more and more often, sometimes I have to reboot two times in a row to get it to come back, most annoying..

Tried a manual removal but obviously missed something as it reinstalls itself every time I reboot.
Others on the forum suggested SDFix, but it gets halfway through running and needs to reboot the system, whereupon the trojan reinserts the registry entries preventing the editing of the registry, and so when the system restarts to complete the work of SDFix, it cannot repair the registry.

I've manually fixed EVERYTHING listed in the Sophos article on this trojan, but it reinserts itself on reboot still. It even installs itself on every computer I hook up to my cable modem, suggesting to one friend that it may be residing in my modem's internal memory. I know this trojan's only two days old, but it'd be nice if someone would release a fix for it soon, so if anyone does, could someone let me know please?

In the meantime I'm going to hope someone can spot what it's using to reinfect my system from this log, and then maybe I can get my system back under my control.

Note: I terminate and delete NMBGMonitor.exe every time windows boots up, right away.
I also immediately order my firewall to block ndisuio.sys, as if I do not, my machine will reboot 15 minutes after loading, and the trojan will be restored. Unfortunately, while blocking this file keeps the trojan from reinstalling (I'm guessing someone's broadcasting to the trojan through it) it also prevents any other computers and consoles on my network from accessing the internet, as they all connect through this box, and seem ... A:Bravo-g Trojan Infection. Keeps Installing Immediately On Every Clean Computer I Connect To The Internet.

Okay, it is STILL reinstalling itself. No matter how many registry entries I clean out and temp-files it creates I delete, it keeps reinstalling itself. I thought I'd killed it off completely, my registry was all fixed and I'd rebooted safely several times, with no sign of the trojan, then BOOM! 30 minutes ago I get a "Remote call procedure terminated unexpectedly, the system is shutting down" message. I knew the moment I saw it that it was this again.

Unsurprisingly, THIS time when it rebooted, I had registry editing and task manager once again disabled and my firewall was once again blcoking NMBgMonitor.exe

This time round I've created a dummy read only file after deleting it, in the hope that might prevent it from restoring itself. But this thing is COMPLETELY out of control now. This is quite possibly the worst trojan I've EVER encountered in the last 20 years... And still as far as the internet seems to be concerned, there is no fix.

hi folks!

i have a problem solely with http uploads. ftp, scp, whatever, is no issue.

i am using windows vista, service pack 2, with all the latest upgrades.
the problem is persistant with ANY http connection; that is in internet explorer, firefox, opera, with youtube, using the flickr uploadr tool... it does not matter, it happens on ALL http uploads.

i do not have any issues with http downloads etc. though.

once i transmit the file in e.g. my browser, the status bar jumps to a full 100%. obviously, some kind of "bubble" in windows took over the transfer. when i KILL the process of my browser, the upload CONTINUES in the background, as can be seen in the task manager's network monitor. this also totally stalls the internet connection - the upload runs at max. speed.

i cannot cancel it anymore, unless i rip out the cable or restart the computer. my http upload disappears into an unreachable bubble and will continue until finished; it will finish properly, though.

this really bothers me, as it renders me unable to cancel an upload or use the internet while i am uploading. i never had that issue in xp.

i already played around with basically every "netsh interface tcp" setting. i disabled antivirus and antispyware software. i disabled the firewall, the windows defender... heck, i disabled the whole security center alltogether. i disabled some services that seemed to have to do with e.g. proxy / caching. NOTHING HELPED.

Hi, I originally asked this on MS Answers and they recommended I cross post here.
I have drive write restrictions enabled (via gpedit) on a publicly used PC to prevent clutter and users losing files. For most applications, I have moved temporary folder locations to a flash disk.

When I moved IE11's temporary folder and re-enabled the write restriction, upon login there is no destination temporary internet files folder. The disk space to use counter is at 0 and the current location field is empty (under the
gear, Internet Options -> General -> Browsing History -> Settings -> Temporary Internet Files -> Current Location and Disk Space to Use).

I also tried to move it back to a folder on the C: drive, and got the same result (empty location field). Ditto when telling IE to restore to original settings.

What is happening here/ how can I solve this? Given the write restrictions, users prefer to use cloud storage systems, and these seem to require temporary storage to load.

Thanks.

Hi, i am new at this, so bear with me lol

We have just moved our XP computer into the living room, and connected it to a 58kb dial-up connection. We installed AVG 8 and everything was running fine

Now we've installed Windows Live OneCare Family safety on the machine so we can monitor my borther and sisters internet usage.

Now, the computer runs extremely slowely, Windows Explorer continually crashes, meaning we have great difficulty opening My Documents, and My Computer or anything that requires Explorer to open

As well as this, now the internet is majorly slow... even for bloomin dial-up, we used to get at least 9kbps, but now its shot down to between 2.5 and 1.5 kbps

AVG is now continuously scanning... even outside of scheduled scans, and constantly wants to update :S

And finally, i have now noticed that small files i dont use very frequently have begun to dissapear from the system!!! music files, images, word docs etc.

We have tried defragging it, scandisk, using AdAware SE Personal 2005, AVG Scans, and they all come up with negligeable results.

As well as this, now the pc wont install files for Trend Micro Online scans to run... so we cant even work it out that way :S

I have a suspicion this could be something to do with OneCare, or Multiple Viruses in the system that have somehow hidden themselves from AVG

PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

Any idea how to debug this issue?
With kind regards!

I don't know what I'm infected with or how to fix it. Sometimes my cursor disappears and I have to turn off the computer - it won't shut down normally. At other times, my browser disappears. Once it happened when I clicked on the back button and it always happens when I try to go to ebay.com. Thanks for any help.

I am using internet Explorer 11 to access the www.nemsis.org site and when I go to access http://www.nemsis.org/media/CustomElementLibrary/ .

I get the error message below:

I can use Chrome just fine to access the page. I have a coworker who can access just it just fine and he is using Internet Explorer 11 and was also able to access on Firefox. Is there something I am missing to access it? The page should display a map.

Thank you in advanced.

A:Using Internet Explorer 11 but site displays warning that I need internet Explorer 9 or higher.

Answered my own question. Apparently if I place a check in the "Use Microsofts Compatibility list and uncheck the "Displa intranet sites in Compatibility View" it works.

Hi.. I don't know if this is the right section, please correct me if it's wrong. Here is the problem:

My Internet Explorer 7 gives the error: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I cannot complete the troubleshooting. It states that there might be a problem with my firewall settings. But my Firefox works perfectly on this computer. I have completed all the steps given in this link. However, it didn't work. I cannot run MSN right now because of this. And this is not a problem that developed recently, on this computer I have never managed to run Internet Explorer.

And another point to mention: Whenever I try to visit a site via IE7, before giving "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error, on the status-bar I see a warning for a second such that a "dns error" or something.

I have also searched this forum for this, I have found some posts consisting HJT logs but could not reached a solution for my problem. Could you please help? Thank you.
