Q: Laptop keeps going back to desktop page

Using Windows 8.1. Recently my laptop keeps going back to the desktop icon page. This happens about every minute. Then in a little while the webpage or other page reappears with no loss of info, etc. How can I remedy this problem?

Could you explain your issue in further detail?

You're using the metro IE, but when viewing a webpage it switches to the desktop edition of IE?

What do you mean by Flashes--Does your screen fog up for a few seconds then return you to the desktop? And you cant Access ANY folders or just some?

I have a desktop pc I just built I am currently using my laptop HD in my desktop machine if I was to put the laptop HD back in the laptop would it bootup and run programs like normal or will I have to reinstall the os and all programs

A:can I switch my HD back to my laptop from desktop

You would need to clean install the OS and all the programs.

If the OS for the desktop was installed on the laptop hard drive (installed in the desktop) then all of the drivers in the OS are geared for the desktop. None of the drivers needed to run on the laptop are installed. It would not start up.

You could install the hard drive in the laptop and then do a Repair Install on the existing OS installation to try and save some time and effort, but these can result in some strange behaviors in some cases.
To have the best OS installation you really should do a clean install.

On my W500 keyboard there are two keys on either side of the up arrow in the lower right corner. Pressing them allows you to navigate forward and back in your browser or in explorer. However, these have to be the worst placed keys possible. Whenever I am typing a message on a website and I want to move around in my text to make some edits, I go to use my arrow keys but occasionally I will hit the back key, thus going back to my previous page and losing all that I was typing. It is extremely frustrating. Is there a way to disable these key? I have no need for them, they only cause me headaches. Cheers,Jordan

Folks;
I am using Win XP, IE 6. When I use the back button it does not take me to the previous page. I have looked at the history list and noticed that there are numberof "doubleclick" items there. When I click back button it backs up one at a time and finally reaches the previous page. Depending on the webpage I am visiting I have to click many times to back to the previous page. This is most annoying. I use FireFox on the same machine and I do not have this problem there. I use a laptop with Win2K and IE 6 and it does not have that problem either. Basically they do not retain the doubleclick frames in the history. How can I fix this on the XP machine. I compared all the internet advanced options with the laptop and they are identical. Thanks for your help in advance.

Here's the problem. I work at a real estate company and for the past two weeks we have not been able to go on our MLS. We have about 30 computers of which NONE can get past the login from our network there. I know this because on my laptop, i can access the MLS site from home, but once i get to work and log onto our network then i cannot get in. I can go to the site which is www.fresnomls.com type in the username and pw and click login, but then it just directs me back to the same page with the username and pw textboxes emptied.
A side note, A few days ago I was able to detect the autoit virus on many of our computers which was messing up the registry's and creating the RVHIOST files. I have cleaned up a few computers that had this virus using hijackthis, ccleaner and spybot along with registry booster.
I even reformatted 1 computer with xp pro sp2 and it still won't login. I'm guessing this is because possibly another infected computer is still on the network??
Should i disconnect all computers from the network and then try to login to the site to see if the problem still exists? this is weird because this is the only site having this issue, not hotmail or any other site. And because of this its' such as hassel as our agents need and use this site on a daily basis.
Any help is appreciated.

Referring to post at:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...come-page.html

titled "Need HELP for Windows XP failure to run Explorer.exe after Welcome Page".

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del. If it brings up Task Manager, create a new task and run %windir%\explorer.exe. If this brings up the desktop, then according to the posted HijackThis log, this is my speculation (assuming your system is clean of malware):

Too many startup processes. Any undue change to any of them can cause problem during startup. If you could remember the very last time you had accessed the internet before this problem cropped up, did your hard disk light blinked a lot? Some programs were actively reading or writing to your machine. It could be Windows update or ZoneAlarm or others. Undo Windows update, uninstall ZoneAlarm, unintall IME, uninstall Java, etc. Try to minimize or simplify you startup process. Get replacement, another version of Java or from the other vendor, another firewall, another IME, etc.

Sorry for the delay. When I solved my similar problem, the thread is closed. So I post here in case anyone care to read. I uninstall ZoneAlarm, zap clean the registry with Registry Easy 4.7, replace it with Comodo Internet Security Free 3.5.54375.427. My XP sp2 is back to normal and desktop shows up after logon as normal.

Hi everyone. I'm having a problem in Windows 7 with my dual monitor setup. Being a student, my laptop comes with me during the day to classes, but when I return to my desk, I have a dual monitor setup through a docking station. I haven't had a problem getting the displays to actually output in extended desktop. Instead, I can't keep them set that way. Installing any program, opening the system task monitor, letting the computer idle into sleep, or any process that makes the screen "flash" sets the screens back to clone. It's even more annoying that for some reason, I cannot get the system to recognize the external monitor through the display settings. To get around this, I've set up schemes that I default to through the Intel Graphics card. I know it's a minor irritation, but somehow I managed to bypass that default in Vista Ultimate and can't quite figure out how to do it in 7.

I attempted to fill out my system specs in my profile as best as possible, but please let me know if any information more is needed from me. I apologize if anything is missing, this is my first post. Thanks for your help!

I write an e-book. I used to use frames - menu on left and contents. I have now converted the book to non-frames using a <div> to wrap all the displayed text nesting a <div> for the menu and a <div> for the contents. The new sites looks like the old one but now allows users to be referred from other sites and emails. HOWEVER, the old site used to return users who browsed to another page back to the same place in the first page (e.g. perhaps half way down a longish page) but the new version returns them to the top. Any idea as to why would be appreciated.

If the link that you click takes you to a page with an immediate re-direct to another page, when you only click the back button once, it's taking you back to that re-direct page which is then forwarding you right back to where you were. I currently have an outstanding thread on the Malware Removal forum regarding this issue, and it does not appear that it will be tended to in a timely manner, so... in the interim, I am posting my situation on the general forum to see if anyone has any advice.

Let me start by saying that, thankfully (knock on wood), my computer is functioning normally for the most part, and while I scan regularly using four or five different programs, I haven't found anything profoundly alarming... yet.

For the last couple of weeks, I have noticed that my keyboard has without warning changed a couple of "alt" commands on its own. For example, when I type alt+1, alt+4, instead of the note character, the browser (regardless of whether it's Firefox or IE) will go back one page to the previous page visited. And alt+1, alt+7 - I forget which character that is - brings me to the browser home page. I found this out just recently on my own, since I usually like to use the note music symbol if I'm ever "singing" something on blogs and whatnot. It's a sudden change that I have no idea how it happened, but it's quite possible some sort of malware could be responsible, because I've Googled and Googled and have yet to find anyone with the same predicament.

I will add that this is not the first time my keyboard has acted weird - my first, last, and only post on this forum back in January revolved around the caps lock function on my keyboard working in re... Read more

A:Key Issues, e.g. Alt+1, Alt+4 - Instead Of , Browser Goes Back One Page

FYI - I just bought a brand new keyboard. Same result when pressing alt+1 and then alt+4 - back to the previous page.

Is there a way to like reset any keyboard defaults or something? This problem is clearly now in the computer, and I am wondering if there is some keylogger thing on it as a result.

Any advice would be appreciated. FYI - I have a Windows XP OS (then again, my handle should tip you off to that). Thanks.

I have google chrome 18.0.1025.152 m installed on Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit

Within the past 3-4 days I've started to have an issue where when I try to go back a page using either the back button on my mouse, the backspace key, or the back button and I have to click it multiple times before it will go back, sometimes it won't even do that so I have to click and hold on the back button and then choose which page I want to go back to...often with multiple pages for the same page listed before I can go back to the page I want.

I have the following extensions on the browser:
Adblock Plus (Beta)
AVG Safe Search
ChromeReload (not turned on)
F.B. Purity
Facebook Classic
Google Translate
StumbleUpon

I had tried to look on Google for some answers...but it was not very helpful.

Also, this isn't super important so whenever someone can help me to fix it (it's only a minor annoyance right now)

A:Google chrome and trying to go back a page

Hi,

Firefox has a mode that is called Safe mode which will disable all the plugins and let you test things, but Chrome doesn't. It does have a mode call incognito. I would like you to try running a tab with that mode and see if you are having the same issues. This will help us figure out if it is a browser issue or a plugin/addon issue.

So , I use IE 11 and Google( not Chrome) for my internet searches. Recently , when I type a search into the Google search box a list of sights comes up , all pertaining to my specific search. So far so good , after clicking on it and deciding it's not what I want, I click on the IE back button and I cant get back to the list page to choose another site.

Is their a setting or something I can check to make Google go back to the list page ?

A:How do I get Edge tab/page previews back?

The Tab preview option is not an optional feature and, since Edge is such an integral part of W10, you probably have some system file corruption. I would do the following:

1. Try the System file checker
2. If necessary follow up with the DISM repair
3. If 1&2 do not fix it you may need to do a repair install with an in-place upgrade

My parents are having trouble with their computer wherein while they are web browsing or composing an email, their browser (Internet Explorer) will go back to their homepage. I've remotely gotten into their computer using Teamviewer software and ran an Avira Scan and a Malwarebyte Antimalware scan. Those two scans produced PUP.MyWebSearch and also Trojan.FakeAlert.ASCGen. I deleted those and ran new scans and they didn't find anything again, although this problem is still happening. Does anyone have any ideas? Hello all I'm an online school student, and I'm having trouble getting into my course.

Here is what happens:

*I go to login, and my courses (I only have two) are displayed.
*I click on one, and I see it is loading.
*The page briefly goes blank then it goes back to the same page.
*No matter what I do I can't get into my course.

I've tried clearing my history/cache, using a different browser (Firefox, Chrome), and I tried contacting tech. support however it has been 4 days since then. The problem is I need to do my course work and if I get too far behind I could be dropped which would be very bad. Please help me, thanks in advance.

Hi,

I'm really hoping someone can help me out here.
For some reason, when I follow a link, the new page loads and after 10 seconds or so, it reverts back to the original page I came from by itself, as if I hit the 'Back' button.

This is not confined to web browsers either.
If I open Microsoft Outlook, it loads up displaying the contents of my inbox.
When I navigate away to another folder, say clicking on 'Sent Items', the contents of that folder displays for about 10 seconds, then the program automatically goes back to 'Inbox' folder...

If I open control panel and click on an icon such as 'Add/Remove Programs', same thing happens, it opens then, after about 10 seconds, reverts back to control panel window by itself, as if I hit the back button.

I'm running XP Pro SP2, I've just upgraded to IE8 although the problem was already there with IE7, and it happens with Google Chrome and Safari anyway so it can't be an Internet explorer version problem.

Please, if someone can help me before I tear all my hair out it would be appreciated...

Cheers,

Bobby

Hi there, apologies for my 'username' my son initially registered for me
I have posted under 'games' as it seems I only experience my issue whilst playing games - Zuma (popcap), Mindjolt games, and daughter plays Moshi Monsters, it happens while playing this also.
It began to happen around 8wks ago with nothing at all being changed on my Acer Inspire5750, no flash update, CHROME was working well, no settings changed then during game play the screen will revert back to the last page I was on, it is so frustrating, sometimes it happens every game, sometimes it only happens only twice. If it doesn't take me back to the previous page the game will begin loading all over again like it has been refreshed. That rules out the 'back button' being responsible I think.
I am quite computer savvy but no genius but am sure I have tried everything to rectify this issue eg: uninstalled and reinstalled both Chrome + Adobe flash players, I was told Chrome use its own flash so to go to 'plugin' and try disabling one at a time (I have 3 showing) none of this worked, everything Ive tried I have put back to the way it was once it didnt work) I have cleaned cache/cookies in google, cleared history etc, done Disk Cleanup and many other bits and pieces that I have been asked to try, all to no avail.

I have attempted to play Zuma through IE instead, however the game wont even load in IE, why would this be? I have the latest flash installed - see below, ... Read more

This may be an issue with the Acer One netbook we're using it on, but the problem seems to occur only in IE8 that's installed on Windows & Basic.

We have a little girl who likes playing Flash games on her netbook. Unfortunately, in the middle of them, they frequently just hop back to the previous (usually menu) page, thus losing her progress. Very annoying.

Is there some key combination that she could accidentally be hitting which somehow acts as a keypress activating the "Previous Page" button? I recall the old days where, due to the way that keyboards functions, pressing three buttons at the same time would often send the same signal to the computer as pressing a fourth.

If I can get her off the machine for a short while, I'm going to try installing Firefox or Chrome to see if the problem affects them as well.

Thanks for any help!

A:[SOLVED] IE keeps hopping back to previous page

Hello;
I have been experiencing a weird problem with my internet explorer (on XP). On some Web sites, this one in particular, when I select down into the individual Posts the BACK button will take me up to the post listings and the Forward will go gray with nothing inside. Then if I select Back again I get the same window I am on and if I look in the Back History it will show another entry of the current window along with the real history. Sometimes it will contain a url that is related to a AD contained in the site (not spyware).
I have reloaded Explorer 6.0 as well as tried 7.0 RC1. They all do the same thing. I also looked at two other computers, one does it on this site the other not but does on other sites. Maybe this is something that happens all the time but this is my first experience with this and I spend a lot of time on this site in particular. Anybody seen this before?

Hello..
when I try to log in to my Yahoo account or any other password protected account, it keeps on sending me right back to the log in page even after i check to make sure i have the right passwords, etc. Also when I go into a webpage like for example my cell phone company and i want to check for an available product and i put in my zip code, it sends me right back to the same page. Loops me over and over.

One more thing.. Even here in Techguy when I go from this web page to for example Security & HJT or any other link I click on I have to sign in over and over again!

I have checked my Norton 360 settings and they seem to be fine. I do not know what to do here...

I've been trying to find a solution to the problem and it led me here. However my problem isn't the same as the firefox 'bouncing' problem already mentioned in this forum.

Example:
When viewing hotmail I can visit my inbox but when i try to view any messages I get a very brief glimpse of the message before it bounces me back to the inbox.
With other sites it often just refreshes the page if i click on any avenues within the site.

I tried deleting cookies via the toolbar cos that sorts out some problems.

I only got to this forum through explorer (yuk).

I apologise if this is a question that has already been answered but my problem isn't very easily searchable through keywords.

A:Firefox keeps bouncing back to a previous page.

...also revisiting a tab in firefox causes that page to refresh. Not really a problem but displaying all the symptomes will help in diagnosing the problem.

I also tried re-installing firefox. That didn't work.

Please, any thoughts on this, it's driving me up the wall.

when i want to start a long search from google (my home page) i first type in my querie and then get a search results which could be hundreds of pages long. my problem starts when i view slideshows, perform product searches within other websites or follow a string of links for a long period of time. in order to get back to the search result page where i last left google i have to hit the back button over and over again. is there a faster way to get back to the last search result page in google? I suspect it might have something to do with opening tabs along the way but that is just a guess.

A:Solved: get back to search result page

Well you can go a little faster by clicking the little down arrow next to the back button. It opens a list of the last pages you've visited and you can move back multiple pages at a time instead of one at a time.

Or you could just open the pages you want look at from google in separate tab by right clicking and choosing to open link in a new tab, and keep your google search in it's very own tab.

It doesn't matter if it's IE 11 or Slim Browser. Once I select the image of anything and click the view image button, it goes to the page that shows the large image and will not go back to the search page. No matter how many times I press the back arrow or press the backspace button.

The only way I can go back to the original image search page, is by pressing the back arrow for about 10 seconds and selecting the search ex: fish - Google Search

I've restored IE settings to original and it didn't help.
Any help is appreciated because this is driving me nuts.

Hello,

I am having a problem with my firefox browser. When i use google and search for something and a list of answer come up and I press on one of the option then if I press the back key to return to google with the list of "answers" for my search term I instead get a blank page with no result (see attachment). If I press back again I am brought back to my original google page where I first started, i.e. where you put the search terms. Then if I press the forward button I am finally brought to the page with all the answers to my search term, i.e. the page I should have been brought to when I first pressed the back button. I tried uninstalling firefox and reinstalling it but that did not fix it. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Thank you.

A:Pressing The back button causes a blank page

I prefer this which would work around your problem and is much more convenient.
In the Address Bar type about:config. Either scroll to or in the filter box type browser.search.openintab. Double-click the value to change it to true. Now you'll retain the Google page while your selected page opens in a new tab and you can leave as many open as you wish.

All of a sudden Firefox, version 3.6.3, will load and operate normally except for the page back and forward arrows. They remain "gray'ed out" and inoperative. I can still use the small down arrow to bring up the list of pages and select which one I want though. So I re-installed Firefox and the arrows again start working as they should. The next day I boot up the computer and starting Firefox brings up the "installing updates" message and an update is installed. When Firefox finally comes up it has the same problem with the arrows as before. This sequence has been performed several times with the same result. I have just set the config file, using "about:config", to not accept updates and hope that this will help. Any suggestions about this problem will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A:Back/Forward page arrows not working.

I just realized that after reinstalling Firefox it's "Save Bookmarks" option suddenly starts to work when it has not been working while I have the "arrows not working" problem. They seem to be associated in some way. I wonder what else I haven't noticed won't work when the arrows go away.

A few weeks ago I started noticing that when I was clicking forward...let's say from a Google search, I would hear clicking going on behind the scenes without touching the mouse. It's been getting progressivley worse to the point where my computer will now just automatically bring me back to the home page and won't stay on any pages that I try to forward into for more than a second or two. Even when I'm in Outlook...it will jump from Inbox...to Outbox...to Junk E-Mail on it's own. At the same time this all started to happen, it seems like there is something running too long in the background...as I can't switch from one program to another without pressing CTL, ALT, DEL to unjam everything. I ran defrag, Adaware, and antivirus scans...but nothing helped.

Try Use the Manage Add-ons tool to determine which add-on is causing the issue.

1. Click Tools, point to Manage Add-ons, and then click Disable Add-ons.
2. In the Show box, select Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer to display all add-ons that are installed on the computer.
3. For each item in this list, select the add-on, and then click Disable under Settings.
4. When you have disabled all the items in this list, click OK.
5. Exit and then restart Internet Explorer.
6. If issues do not occur, repeat steps 1 through 3.
7. Click Enable for a single add-on.
8. Repeat steps 6 through 8 until you determine which add-on causes errors to occur.

If you found any one try uninstall add-ons by Add-Remove program in XP or Change program in Win 7.

Hope it helps.

Before it goes to the login screen, does a screensaver or a blank screen and then it goes to the login screen when you move the mouse / press a key. If so, open the start menu and type Change Screensaver. Press enter and then there should be a check box that says "On resume, display logon screen", make sure it is unchecked. Also if you don't want any screensaver (if there is one set), click the drop down box and click "None"

Hi. Thank you in advance for your help.

When using the internet or the control panel the page will keep changing back to the first page. For instance, if I open MSN the home page will open. Then I will click on my email, then on a news channel, then on facebook, etc. The pages will then start changing themselves like I have hit the back button. The same thing happens when I use the Control Panel. I am not sure if this is a malware or a software issue???

I had to reinstall from my boot cd in midSeptember because I had some sort of virus that kept locking up my computer and then completely locked me out. I'm sorry but I can't remember exactly what was happening when this first problem started. Obviously the reboot fixed that issue.

My computer is backed up and I do have the reboot cd. Again thank you for your help.

Since January I have had this awful new version of outlook preview forced upon me.

The main problem is it has all 6000 emails on display, making navigation impossibly slow. Most of the time I give up. I've got almost a month of mainly unanswered emails because it is too stressful to browse them like this. In short, I simply don't have the time.

I cannot find anywhere into revert back to 35 messages per page

Please help.

Best wishes, R

Hey all, the other day i was browsin on the internet and all the suddenly my browser came to a stop(IE), it displayed a page that was basically the broken link page but said something along the lines of "Webpage blocked, Virus warning" in big red text and had links to: http://www.e-finder.cc/hp.
obvisouly wasnt a default windows page, i realised i had been hit by spyware. anyway sure enough i ran Adaware SE, Spybot S&D, CWshredder and HijackThis.
cleaned and fixed all that i could find, ended up fixing it so i could now browse (something about a broken LSP, fixed it though). but the profblem i still have is the Home page keeps changing to http://default.home/ which then redirects me to http://www.e-finder.cc/hp, i keep fixing and fixing entries in HJT and the above mentioned tools and it keeps coming back, ran them in safe mode still it continues to come back. i stopped it with Spyware Guard, it prompts me that the home page is being changed and asks me if i want to keep the current one, the problem is it pops-up twice everytime a page loads(makes browsing terrible).
thats basically what my problem is, all tools are upto date and scanned for viruses with AVG(upto date).

heres my HJT log:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

The Firefox home page on my computer keeps switching back to flyingincognitosleep.com/cgi-bin/h.pl. This happens only to one of the two regularly-used users on the computer. The home page had been changed on IE8 also, but that could be reset manually. Both Firefox and IE were also re-configured to connect to the internet through a proxy server. This problem could also be fixed manually. The home page on Firefox keeps recurring, however. Malwarebytes has not been able to get rid of the issue.

Any and all help is appreciated. Logs below.

Thank you, and have a Happy New Year!

I am posting this for my wife who has a brand new computer. I am not sure what she has installed as far as spyware- and antivirus goes, but it has gotten to the point that it doesn't matter what browsers she uses; sooner or later, regardless of what she is doing, the page will refresh and send her back to the start page. Another tidbit of information is that even when she is not at the computer, her start page (www.google.com) will pop up in a new window. Also, my wife is running Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit. She's been behind on her Windows-updates. It's weird because last night I was trying to log in to this forum on her computer and her browsers, both IE and Firefox, would send me back to the start page. When I tried to click the back-button, it took me back to the start page again.

We have run Spybot, Ad-Aware and several antivirus runs with Avira and it has not remedied a thing. We did, however, change the start page to a non-search engine and this seems to have cleared the issue up. However, I want to be absolutely sure that we're home free.

I have a tablet with Windows 8.1 installed. In the office I'm using it with an external monitor and a keyboard/mouse.

When I'm moving the mouse in Internet Explorer 11 (App Mode) to the left or right side of the screen, a gray semi-transparent back/forward button will appear (see attached screenshot). By pressing on of these button you get to the previous or next webpage.

My problem: On a visited website is a link on the exact same spot where the "back" button of IE 11 will appear. If i move my mouse over the link for clicking it, the "back" button of IE 11 will apper and cover the link so I can't click it.

How can I click the coverd link or hide/turn off the "back" button of IE 11?

Hi, I've recently been searching around the internet for some speed accelerators, etc., and tried a few. The next day I turned on my computer and my firefox loaded with a totally different webpage. This site called turbo-search101.com replaced my regular jpopasia.com/charts. So as anyone would do I'm sure, I opened up the options and changed it back. I clicked the home page button but the same page popped up! I checked my options again and it indeed said turbo-search101.com. So I tried it again. turbo-search101.com popped back up. I checked my antivirus and the "block any home page changes" was on, interestingly enough, the "alert me if an attempt is blocked" as also on. I uninstalled any software i might have downloaded but still came up with the same result.

Help please!

I have read and initiated all of the suggestions in the sticky about secure websites on this forum.  When I'm at auduble.com and click the "sign in" link, the URL briefly changes to the sign in URL and then reverts back to the home page.  Strangely, this is the only site I have a problem with.  I am using Win 7, IE9, Norton Internet Security.  The problem started after I upgraded to IE10, although am not convinced that was the cause. I did a Reset on IE, then reverted back to IE9 and then IE8 with no luck, so upgraded to IE9 for now.  I have done complete scans with NIS, MalwareBytes, MalwaeBytes Anti-Rootkit, Super AntiSpyWare, Microsoft Malicious Removal Tool.  I have deleted all cookies, history, temps, MRUs, etc using CCleaner, Disk Cleanup, ATF Cleaner, and IE's browsing history delete.  I don't have this problem with Firefox or Chrome.  I am good at keeping a clean computer and frequently clean up other people's computers, but I have never seen this problem before.  Any suggestions?

thanks!

This happens when browsing through a google search list

search
click on link and browse a page
then click on back arrow to go back to google search list
but it will not go back - as if the current page locks me in to stay there.
This doesn't happen with all pages, just a substantial fraction
sometimes when I hit back button many times in quick succession it breaks free and leaves the page

any idea what's happening?

thanks

A:Back arrow will not work at times - stays stuck on page

Google links on their search page don't actually take your browser directly to the page you were trying to get to. Your browser is quickly sent to a Google link first that then redirects your browser on to the page you wanted.

So, when you then hit the back arrow, your browser is actually trying to go back to the Google redirect which is trying to send you back to the page you were just on. If you you time a couple of quick back arrow presses just right you can sometimes get back to the Google search page.

One workaround to this problem is to right-click the link on the Google search page and select Open in new page or in new Tab. Then when you're done with that page or tab, close it and there's the Google search page.

Dear awesome powers, facing a number of problems with laptop atm. i will began by describing the symptoms, followed by previous solutions tried. Appreciate any provision of assistance provided.

I mainly use chrome or firefox on my vista system. Over the last few week i've had to reboot my computer after every use as it slows down significantly after a few hours of usage, While surfing the internet, the search bar redirects me back to google or displays a website unavailable for a couple of instances before working fine again. Lastly, box ads pops up on the bottom right of the screen every few hrs.

For solutions garnered over the internet, i've tried the latest versions of tdsskiller.exe, Malwarebytes, AVG, Karpersky. All the above have been attempted to no avail.

Defogger have been used to disable emulation before i proceed. I have attached the ark and attach text files and the Dns file is as per below:

Ever see this? You search google, click on a result, and then either backspace or click the back button, but instead of going back to google, you stay on the current site. Why does that happen, and is there anything to do about it?

Using IE 8 32-bit in W7 64-bit here, but have been seeing this problem for a long time with previous versions.
Any ideas?

Thanks!
