[SOLVED] Enable WiFi? (How to?)

Q: [SOLVED] Enable WiFi? (How to?)

Hello, today I was messing around with "Network and sharing Center" when I accidentally clicked something along the lines of 'disable' beside WiFi. Now it is completely gone and I have no idea how to get it back, I have done extensive Google-ing but couldn't find an answer. I am now using a wired ethernet cable instead but I need my wifi back as soon as possible.

Control Panel - Network and Internet - Network and Sharing Center
View your active networks
Acces Type: Internet
Homegroup: Joined
Connections: Ethernet *WIFI SHOULD BE HERE*

If anyone could help me on getting it back I would be extremely appreciative, thank you very much.

Hey guys,

There is a difficulty i am facing recently in my girlfriend's house only(in all other places it works fine).
I have recently established a WiFi connection for her to use on her phone. It worked great the first day. It continues to work perfect on her mobile. On my net book, though, i can not see WiFi access point in her house.

It appears randomly for several minutes, i try to connect, it does not want to and then the access point disappears for some uncertain period of time. From time to time it appears and works fine from than on but disappears again if computer goes to sleeping mode...

Do you have any ideas what could it be?

Val

I upgraded my friends HP laptop to Windows 10. The issue now is I can't enable Wifi. The card is recognized correctly in Device manager and no issues is found with it. It looks like it is fine. However in the Network Settings WLAN is set to "Off" and when I try to turn it on it always jumps right back to off. eg. I can't enable it.

HP is now help as they clearly state any laptop bought prior to specific date in 2013 will not get any driver updates from their side for windows 10. (Guys, never buy HP again please...). And updating through device manager only tells me it's the newest driver available.

The Wifi card i Broadcom 4313GN card. I searched for win 10 drivers but did not find anything. They only offer linux drivers on their homepage...

So can anyone either provide a solution to the issue or link to a win 1' driver for this wifi card?

I had a similar issue were I was stuck in Aeroplane mode on a cleanly installed W10. Turned out I had to uninstall it from the HID's in Device manager. It's worth checking that he's not stuck in it too. Search for drivers in Windows 7, from the HP website and you'll most likely resolve the issue.

Provided you have a WiFi adapter installed in your notebook, you will need to turn on WiFi in your notebook then sign on to an available wireless network.  I suggest downloading your user manual and reading up on this subject for more information. If you do not see any wireless networks, you may need to purchase a Wireless Router from your internet service provider.  If you do not have a WiFi card in your computer you will need to contact Lenovo directly to purchase a compatible card for your specific notebook.

Also - make sure you have a good anti virus software suite installed before you go online.

Good luck.

Hi Ruben_Palacios ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

First to make sure that Airplane mode (page 6) is not enabled, there is a hotkey on top of the keyboard with an icon of a plane.  Check if that would enable your wifi .

Else you can try to set the default of the BIOS ,
Access the BIOS by turning off the laptop and then use the Novo button (item2 page 9) on the left side next to power to turn it on. Novo menu would appear to offer BIOS set up , F9 to load defaults F10 to save and exit .

Load up windows and check if there is a wifi icon at the base of the screen.
Check also on device manager if there is any yellow mark or black down arrow  to indicate any need to reinstall drivers from the support website.

Update us how it goes.

Hi,

I have a Sony Vaio with a switch on the front that turns WIRELESS on/off. Whenever I turn the switch 'off', I get a pop-up box that says something like 'Alert: Wireless has been turned off'. The pop-up also had an option to turn off this notification. I turned off this notification a week ago but now i would like to turn it back on. I have been looking at a lot of settings on my computer but I don't know how to turn it back on.

Does any one know how to turn the notification back on?

I have Win 7 Home Premium.

Is there an easy way to disable my wireless connection so that (a) it does not enable itself after a reboot, and (b) I don't need to implement the complete process to re-enable the wireless?

Under normal circumstances, the re-enable after a reboot is fine. I can disconnect WiFi from the system tray, and it reconnects after reboot.

But sometimes, I might want wireless to remain disabled after reboot. For example, if I'm doing a database restore, and the database starts synching after a reboot (such as Evernote), it could cause problems :-)

At the moment, I simply switch off the router until the database restore is complete.

Hi

I'm new to 7 (all my desktops are XP Home).

With XP, the OS just connects automatically to my home wireless network.

However with this netbook, I have to do it manually everytime I reboot - it's a real pain.

Not sure if this OS, hardware or both.

Can anyone advise ?

I've looked at services.msc WiFi service and it's set to automatic already ....

thanks

PS Also, is there a way to get 7 to boot straight to desktop, without having to click on user icon or enter password ?

The reason these 2 are important to me is that this netbook is basically a music server, so when I come in from work etc., I'd like to just power up the netbook then walk off and play stuff via my network (Squeezebox) players

A:Could not enable Intel My WiFi on my laptop

hi K. Sharath,

From this microsoft article, it looks like the Intel My WiFi technology is not compatible with the Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN card and is only applicable to certain types of Intel Wi-FI adapters.

To turn ON the Wi-Fi capability of the Lenovo Y460, you will need to:
1. Slide the physical wi-fi switch to the ON position
  - Link to picture

2. Press Fn+F5 to enable the wireless card (ensure Current Status is set to "ON")
  - Link to picture

Note:
The Lenovo Energy Management Driver must be installed for the function keys to work

3. If same problem, boot into the BIOS by pressing F2 on startup and ensure that the WLAN Device is Enabled.

Let me know how it goes.

I have a problem, normally I press Fn and F5 to bring up the window to enable/disable Wireless Lan and Bluetooth. But it's suddenly stopped working and I cannot switch on my Wireless Lan. This is on IdeaPad Y580 running Windows 7. 1. When I press Fn F5 no window opens. 2. When I press Fn F6 my track pad is enabled/disabled as normal, although I do not see the notification on screen. 3. When I press the Fn and volume or brightness controls, they work perfectly, but again I do not notification on screen, the bars showing level of volume or brightness. 4. Also the One Touch Recovery and One Key Theater buttons are not working. But the audio Mute button is working. 5. I have uninstalled the Lenovo Energy Management software and reinstalled it but no difference. 6. I have checked the BIOS and Wireless Lan is enabled. 7. I also saw that in Task Manager I cannot see utility.exe running. This is really causing me problems, can anyone suggest a fix? Thanks, Dave.

So. at random times my WIFI gets disabled and when I hover over the symbol it says wifi networks available. When I go into the network list it just goes into a loop that never loads the list.

the none of the network list services can be restarted/stopped/started and in device manager I can not disable/uninstall/re-install my wifi adapter.

The only way to re-enable my wifi is to completely restart my computer with a forced shutdown (hold the power button) because normal methods go into loops that never end.
In the past I did fix it for an extended period of time by downloading the most recent .net Framework, this seemed to solve the problem for months until now.

I've just installed a wireless PCI adaptor (Tenda W322P 11N) in my desktop PC but I can't 'enable' it - every time I double click it starts to enable then stops and leaves it disabled with no warning or error messages.

The system is definitely seeing it as it's listed in Device Manager, and if I bring up Network Connections (using ncpa.cpl) it's listed and shown as disabled. Why would windows stop it from being enabled??

I've tried downloading new drivers from the manufacturers site in case the drivers on the disk were old - no difference. I uninstalled it and removed the drivers and then re-booted so windows would use it's own drivers - no difference.

It seems the system has a problem with it, but surely ONE of the drivers would work if it was a driver problem?

A:Windows wont let me enable wifi adaptor

the software driver on their site is up to version 4.
If you are running on the driver off the disk it may be problematic.

Okay, it's now 13 Sep 2015 and I went around in circles to figure this out. I saw the same issues, to the point of knowing the driver was installed bu tthe Netgear tools never enable the WNDA3100v2, and one cannot manually enable it either. Also tried a USB A6200 device, with the same results. However, I did make this work, and it's kind of simple in my case. I was running the free Zone Labs Firewall & A/V package. And who's A/V package do they use you ask? Kaspersky! Kaspersky has a known issue with allowing proper installation of Netgear USB wireless adapters. So I followed the recommended guidense of a full uninstall of any Netgear WNDA3100v2 and A6200 drivers and software. Then a full uninstall of Zone Labs tools, reboot the computer, then reinstalled the WNDA3100v2 software. Followed the directions, recognition of the USB WiFi adapter was instant. Changed the device setting for being Enabled to auto connect if wired adapter is not connected, and here we are fully functional.Of course now I need to reinstall Zone Labs software, which according to the write up I read at Zome Labs, it should all just work now.Try this method if nothing else seems to work.

Let me start by explaining what led to my problem.

I work for an electric utility, and we issue Panasonic Toughbook laptops to our linemen containing our mobile mapping and AVL (Automatic Vehicle Locating) software. They are all running Windows XP Professional SP3. Our AVL software requires an internet and VPN connection to our AVL server at the office (we currently use Verizon Air Cards and the Cisco VPN client to achieve this). Since implementing this, we have found that Cisco VPN and the Verizon Air Cards do not work well when the wifi network adapters are turned on (or enabled). When they are turned off (disabled) everything works nicely. We can't just disable the wifi NIC's and call it good either because our user's need the faster wifi connections to perform database syncs in the mornings (via hotspots inside each garage bay). Once they are all synced up and out of range of our wireless network, the wifi NIC's are no longer needed. Since the wifi NIC's and Air Cards don't get along, we have been having our users turn the NIC's off using a hardware switch on the Toughbooks cassis. However, some of our older models (CF-29's to be exact) do not have these hardware switches. Our solution was to create two batch files and place them on the users' desktops; one that turns the wifi NIC on, and one that turns it off.

This brings you up to my current problem...

I have an Insignia 8" tablet that I use to listen to an internet radio station. WiFi connection to my 2Wire 3801HGV router. I have it powered by the AC charger. I have the display to turn off after 5 minutes, never to go into sleep mode when powered by AC. After the 5 minutes the display is turned off, the music continues as expected and will continue for hours. But if I try to do anything I loose my WiFi.
Right after the screen is shut off I can enable it again with a stroke. Then the music stops. I no longer have internet access.
Network settings says I still am connected but somewhere the connection is broken. I disconnect from my router and then try to reconnect and it will not. I get, Checking Network Requirements, Can't connect to this Network. The only way I have been able to get connected is to do a restart.
Any ideas on how to solve this problem? I have not found any settings that have been useful. All it should be doing is shutting off the screen. Not go into any other sleep or power down state.

I've read through hundreds of posts trying to figure out my issue. Unfortunately, I've been unsuccessful.

Here's the issue, I was given a new laptop for work and it connects fine to our secure wireless network at the office, but when I brought it home it will not connect to my wireless network at home.

When I try to connect to my network at home the wireless manager sits and spins saying "trying to acquire network address". I have 2 iPhones, 1 eMachine and 1 Macbook connected to my network working fine and dandy. However, the HP laptop from work simply won't connect unless wired.

I have tried the following:
1. Uninstalled and reinstalled the driver.
2. Power Cycled my Router
3. Power Cycled my entire network
4. WinsockXPFix tool

I'm completely at a loss here. No idea what to do to fix this. I'm running Windows XP and have a 2Wire router.

I appreciate any advice anyone can give me to help solve this annoyance.

But here it asks to select the n/w connection out of 3 options Wireless conn,Wireless conn2,Local Area Conn.
Sometimes it shows only Wileless Conn and LAN
i tried every possible combination of all these settings but nothing is working.
The internet on my laptop works fine.
I am using Win 7 Home Premium.
I just need to connect my Xbox to my laptop wirelessely and use the internet connection my laptop is using.

i tried some manual settings of ip.subnet n dns server on my xbox n lapi, in this case the xbox connects to the network (while connection test) but does not connects to laptop.

hello.

i have cable internet that is connected to a belkin wireless router. one computer gets slow internet access when connected to this. multiple other computers get better speed. the one affected computer gets fast speeds when accessing the internet at other locations, like a friend's house. also, the affected computer gets fast speeds when connected to the router by a cable.

so the problem seems to be very specific to the connection between these specific devices.

the laptop in question is a thinkpad e420 running windows 7.

thank you in advance for any solutions or suggestions you might have.

Cannot enable add-ons.

Tools Internet options, programs, manage add-ons, everything listed is enabled.
Go to Start > Run > type in gpedit.msc > on the left side, there are two "Administrative Templates" entries. Click on the lower one. > On the right side, click on Windows Components > Internet Explorer > Now look to see if the following is enabled:
"Do not allow users to enable or disable add-ons".
If that is enabled, double click it and disable it or set it to Not configured.
…everything listed is ‘not configured’

I have spent at least 8 hours trying to enable add-ons on my browser but nothing works. I use Windows XP and IE Version 7. I even upgraded to IE 8 but that didn't help and was time-consuming as I had to delete IE 7. In desperation, I deleted version 8 and returned to version 7 but to no avail. I have tried every setting possible to re-enable the add-ons but nothing works. Even "System Restore" doesn't work. As a result, my Java 6 downloads don't work. I continually get a message that Add-Ons are disabled then I click to enable them but they are still disabled. I've done this numerous times. What's the problem?

I bought a couple of used PCs with XP. They boot up and the userid that was already in the login prompt had a blank password, but that userid is restricted (i.e. not an administrator). I have played around with safe mode and looked around and it seems the local administrator account is disabled and the only other administrator is a domain user. I have seen lots of password hacks, cracks or blank outs and feel comfortable with trying one of the bootable CD based Linux tools, but my concern is that the local administrator is disabled (i.e. no login allowed). Even if I get the password, what can be done about enabling the account? I have a bootable registry tool, but I think the userid enable setting is not in the registry. Any ideas?

i need to enable javascript on my norton internet security 2007 product but don't know how.

can anyone help?

A:Solved: anyone know how to enable Javascript for IE7 on NIS'07?

Do you mean JavaScript or (Sun) Java? I always thought that JavaScript was embedded in browsers, not security apps, and you would need to amend your browser's settings if, for some reason, JavaScript is not enabled (I don't know how to do that in IE because I don't use it, but someone else here will know).

If you mean that Norton requires Sun Java to be installed on your computer, you can check what, if any, version you already have here; http://www.javatester.org/ If you have a version earlier than Version 3 Update 6 you should uninstall it and get the latest one from here; http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

(If you click 'JavaScript' on the left hand side of the javatester site, you can also find out if your browser does currently have JavaScript installed and working).

Hi -

I had a user account that somehow got demoted on Christmas Eve, 2007. It is frustrating.

You need to get into Vista recovery & perform a Windows System Restore. 2 ways - Boot using the recovery partition (usually press F10 during boot on most systems) or use your Vista DVD. Either one should get you to a screen where Windows Vista System Restore is available.

Once there, select a restore point dated prior to the loss of the account.

Hello,

Could anyone tell me the advantages and disadvantages of disabling cache writing on the priming HDD? Thanks in advance

A:Cache Writing - Enable or not to enable?

I think the default setting is usually to enable it?

I have a dim understand of it from memory. As I recall, enabling it provides slightly faster performance but has a slight risk of data corruption in cases of a bad shutdown--like from a power outage. It can also have consequences when using RAID.

The geekiest thing to do is to enable it, but use a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) to eliminate the risk from power failure.

Me? I've always left it enabled and haven't knowingly suffered any negative consequences.

I've recently installed a wireless lan in my office. I have Roadrunner cable coming into their router which in turn is attached to a Linksys router. I have one desktop (Dell) running XP Pro hardwire to the router. I also have a laptop and another desktop connected via wireless. I've seen all over the place that you should not enable file sharing. So, how do you allow acces from one computer to another. I've set them all up on the same workgroup.....what am I missing? I've been able to send print from the wireless laptop to the printer attached to the wireless desktop. It's just the folders I'm having problems accessing.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

A:To enable or not to enable (file sharing that is)

Where exactly have "I've seen all over the place that you should not enable file sharing".

If you don't that is fine. But then you can't share files. Just a choice to make.

With a router you should be reasonably protected.

I am having problems with my computer. The system started running very slow yesterday so I ran adware, spybot and ewido. I was still having problems so I restarted the computer and now the Norton Anit-Virus and Firewall will not lanch. I try to do this manually, but nothing happens.

Also, several of my desktop items when I try to open come up with The page cannot be displayed.
It seem that the pages that cannot be displayed are all sites that require me to log in. The home page will display, but when I'm asked to sign in that page can not be displayed.

I just recently got another HD Radeon 6850 and I'm almost positive that I installed them correctly. The power is connected and the bridges are on.
I installed the disk that came with the card.
Heres the problem: I have no option to turn on Crossfire in my AMD control panel. I looked under gaming and nothings there. I also looked under Performance and there isn't an option there either.
I searched up driver profiles for the Crossfire drivers or watever, and it still won't show up.
Yes, my motherboard is crossfire compatible, but what am I doing wrong?
I can defiantly tell there isn't a boost in performance.
Also, I know the card is in properly because the AMD Control panel says the card is disabled where it shows primary card, and disabled card. -.-
P.S: the only thing out of the ordinary is that the POWER connections are different on each card. ( One is connected with different cord )

A few of my clients had some massive virus attacks these last few days.
I did get rid of all the viruses on the pc but there is one problem.

When I start or restart the pc I get a windows security warning balloon form the system tray saying that Windows Automatic Update is disabled, and click here to fix it. (I am sure you all know that part)
So I click on the balloon, and it opens the Security Center.
I click on the "Turn on" button for Windows Automatic Update.
Then I get a window saying that windows cannot turn on automatic updates, and that I should go to Control Panel and enable it there. When I go to Control Panel and Automatic Updates (classis view). The "Automatic update (recommended)" is on and set to everyday at 3:00AM.
I also went on the windows update website. On the website on the righthand site it says your automatic updates are turned off click here to enable it. When I click on the button to enable it nothing happens.

I know that when your time and date on the pc is wrong the updates will also not work, but the time and date is correct. I also disabled the Control Panel Automatic Updates and re-enabled it. And I still get the balloon giving me the waring.

All the pc's have WinXP Pro SP2.

But I would like to have more ideas or suggestion
Thanks in advance

Hello everyone!

I have installed the latest Java JDK, version 6 update 26. Name of the installer was "jdk-6u26-windows-x64.exe". The JDK package of course includes the Java JRE so one does not have to download these separately.

I am using Firefox 3.6.19 and whenever I visit a website that requires Java, I cannot load the applet. Firefox reports that a required plugin is missing. But I recently installed Internet Explorer 9 from Windows Update, and if I run IE 9 there is no problem with Java in the browser.

1. Could this have to do with 32-bit vs. 64-bit compatibility, i.e. Java is 64-bit while Firefox is 32-bit?
2. How do I check that the Java plugin is installed?

Thanks!

The compnay I work for has a value set in the ini file to boot up with an ID and Password. This W7 box was just recently installed I was not informed or failed to check to make sure the password never expires on the needed user. The PC was rebooted this AM now it is on the screen to change the password. If we put a new value in we do not have access to change.

I need a method to change to administrator which then I can back date today date on the PC then check password never expires for the user.

On a XP PC when it is loading our application, I can press Ctrl, Alt Delete and that will produce the login screen where I can delete the user type in administrator.

I have also tried Ctrl Shift Esc and Ctrl Shift and Delete. Searching the Web the Shift key was disabled starting with Vista.

I do have a Knoppix CD, will that boot up W7 so I can edit the .ini file?

Thanks

Then i checked in CMD is it TRIM disabled with this comand:

TRIM is enabled, according to CMD
I did all steps from this two sites below:http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/39569-trim-support...

Forbade defragmentation and hybernation, still 80% performance on HDD Sentinel.
May be just the motherboard does not support TRIM enabled?
Because i want best SSD performane 100%, not 80%.

During the day, I need to use WinPage to send text pages to co-workers. To do this I have to close FaxTalk, start WinPage and send the pages, Close Winpage, and restart FaxTalk.

The reason that I must do this is because FaxTalk "grabs" the port and if FaxTalk is open Winpage gives me the error, "Error Opening Com Port! Port Id=-3". It does not work the other way around (ie have WinPage open 1st, then open Faxtalk and get an error from Faxtalk). I assume this is because Winpage just sits there and does not lock onto the modem port until it actually goes to send the page, and FaxTalk continuously is monitoring the port for incoming calls. So I was just wondering....

Is there a way to maybe assign an "alias" port id to the modem for one of the applications, temporarity disable the lock that FaxTalk has over the port, give WinPage priority over the port, or something similar. Any Ideas or suggestions.

Thank you,
John R.

Ratman,

I think that the way you are handling it presently is the way that you are going to have to do it. It appears to be a shortcoming in the way the application was written.

My System Restore got mysteriously turned off and I can't turn it back on. When I attempt to do so from the System Restore tab in the Systems Properties windos, I get the following message: 'System Restore encountered an error trying to enable/disable one or more drives.'

The problem must be linked to the fact that the 'Status' section of the System Restore tab in the System Properties window indicates that that '(C)' is 'Turned off'.

How do I 'turn' my C drive back on? It should read, I think, 'Monitoring'.

I have a HP Pavillian laptop that has built in wireless capability. A month ago, I installed a Verizon wireless pc card (slide-in) and the software, so that I could go online when away from home. I decided I didn't like the service so I cancelled it and uninstalled the VZ software. Now I can't receive a wireless signal at the library. It will not allow me to enable the WLAN assistant so any signals nearby are not seen.

What should I do?

Hey everyone, got a bit of a problem after reinstalling XP SP3, System Restore refuses to enable. Here's what I've tried to correct it so far but with no luck:

The typical opening System Restore from the System Tools folder. Gives the following error: http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m...temRestore.png (Which of course, restarting the computer doesn't work)

Going to System Properties, there's no System Restore tab to change any settings: http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m...mRestore-1.png

Trying through the Command Prompt by typing "%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe" (This simply prompts the same error dialog from the first attempt/screenshot)

Here's what the registry looks like for the following path:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Sr
http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m...mRestore-2.png

Here's what the registry looks like for the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Srservice
http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m...mRestore-3.png

Here's what the registry looks like for the following path:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore
http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m...mRestore-4.png
"Turn off System Restore" is disabled in the Group Policy section.

Any other ideas out there?

I've just installed SP2 on a customer's Dell running XP Home, and the red shield pops up in the bottom right corner warning me that automatic updates are turned off. When I try to turn it on it apologises and says that the security centre could not change your automatic update settings. However, if I go into the automatic updates tab in the system control panel (as it suggests), it's set to automatic, and when I go online it starts downloading updates. How can I get the security center to realise that automatic updates are turned on? I tried going into the services control panel and setting the automatic updates service to automatic, and it tells me that the service has been marked for deletion. As an aside, this computer has had the Sdbot virus on it, which I removed; I suspect that the virus is behind this problem but it comes up clean when I scan it now.

I've already done a repair install of XP, and registered the following files as suggested on one of the 2 hits Google gave me:

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll

Hi,
Anyone know how to re-check the box FLMOFFICE4DMOUSE in msconfig if it has been unchecked and the mouse does not then work?

Reason I ask is because I am wondering if there is a conflict somewhere, so I am wondering about unchecking the box to see if it is any better, but need to know how to re-check it using the keyboard in case the mouse doesn't then work.

Using Windows 98SE and Fairie Optical mouse. In the programs running (when I do Ctrl-Alt-Del) there is a Mouse 32a. In Control Panel - System, the mouse is shown simply as PS/2, so am wondering if the FLMOFFICE4DMOUSE is doing anything or if it can safely be disabled.

A:Solved: How do I enable startup items via keyboard

Taking mouse software out of msconfig should not make the mouse fail to work. That doesn't remove the driver only from startup and there are native drivers for mouse anyway. I never install any mouse software myself.

Welcome to TSG:
Ok:By disabling,do you mean going into device manager and disabling or uninstalling it ?
If disable, you might try the complete uninstall .
Then, just to re-boot the system and see if it will re-find the adapter and rebuild it.
If not,then :
Two things we would like to see :
Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

And:
Let’s take a look at the status of the network adapters

Device manager:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.
1. Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
2. Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
3. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?
4. should be enabled and working properly.
5. If error code,what is it ?

It would be best if you could post a screen shot of Device Manager with the Network adapter... Read more

Hello. I recently reformatted my hp pavillion dv8330us laptop to clean off some trojans and adware. The laptop was windows XP home edition, but I decided to upgrade it to vista. When I was installing XP (since the vista was the upgrade version) I had to switch off SATA in order for windows to detect my hard drive. I then installed Vista and all works well, but I cannot enable SATA because I lack the drivers, but I can't install SATA drivers either.

Is there a solution to this problem without reformatting again and putting the drivers on a floppy? I don't have an A: drive and would prefer not to buy a plug in one if I can. Also, will it matter that much not having the SATA enabled?

Thanks,
Ricky

A:Solved: how do I enable SATA after Vista has already been installed?

SATA must be working; how would your drive work? I think what you are referring to is ahci which is a mode of sata operation.

As to whether or not it helps, I have benched systems with native ide and then using the same system with ahci. In every case native ide was slightly faster; not by much however it was faster.

You do understand that you can do a clean install with the vista upgrade disk correct? Vista would see your ahci mode sata without a problem so I would just clean install using the upgrade disk. Note this is a somewhat involved process so post back if you need detailed instructions on how to do this task.

Next if your really really must have ahci, there is a method of changing over without a reinstall. I have never done this so I cannot tell you if it works or not.

My system is a Packard Bell PLT 2250 X running Windows 95B. I have had virtually no trouble with the machine. The other day, I was trying to migrate my files to a new computer, and as part of the process I mistakenly went into the device manager and clicked on "Disable in this hardware profile" under "Printer Port Properties." Since then, my computer will not talk to my printer and I have been trying to re-install the printer port.

I have gone thru the steps including removing the port, then re-installing as an LPT or ECP port. However, I am still getting the message: "This device has been disabled in the hardware. In order to use this device, you must re-enable the hardware. See your hardware documentation for details. (Code 29). "

All the drivers and everything else seems to be fine. However, my computer still won't talk to the printer. And in the Device Manager, the "Printer Port" symbol shows up with a yellow circle and an exclamation mark. What can I do to re-enable the hardware? I hope it doesn't include having to re-install Windows 95. Are there some sort of adjustments I have to make to the bios or cmos? How would I do that? Thank you.
