Two basic questions! I have Vista home premium 32bit OEM on a new Emachine. The machine was supplied with an Operating System Disc. Do I need to make a recovery DVD and if so, how?

Question 2. Do I need to validate my OEM copy of Vista and, again, if so - how?

Basic, but I need to know as machine is 1 week old and I don't want any nasty surprises in 21 days time! Thanks..........

A:Validate and recovery of Vista?

if your system came with an oem vista, you should not need to do a recovery. If your paperwork that came with the system or you get a popup asking you to create a recovery, then go ahead and make one. Never know when it may come in handy. However, once you get your system setup with all of the new computer junk removed and setup with your own programs, I would strongly suggest doing a backup.

As far as validating, most likely its already taken care of for whats installed on your system. However if you reinstall using the oem disk, then you may need to validate.

WARNING!!
Vista Windows Genuine Activation (WGA) Problems :
Genuine Microsoft Software Advantage

There is a problem with Microsoft's WGA servers and they are not allowing Vista to be activated as Genuine.

http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=1004&SiteID=25

Do not do anything that would require you to reactivate or validate Vista.
EX: Windows Updates, Hot Fixes, Activation, etc.

Wait a week before trying again to give Microsoft a chance to sort through the problem. If you do not, you will be left with a Vista that is considered not Genuine.

If your 30 day trial period is almost up, or you are already in Reduced Functionality Mode, then see: - Read Tutorial

The only options I have are to Validate Online or Close (close returns me to the login screen) I attempt to Validate online, and am told there was either an unauthorized change or a software program on the computer is not currently compatible with Vista. What I've done so far:I've read through and done the recommendations listed (Restarting the Software Licensing service and running Disk Cleanup)Read through and done what was suggested by Microsoft at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931699Uninstalled PC Spyware Doctor and a few other non-essential utilitiesran Malwarebytes and Spybot while booted in Safe Mode (found and fixed errors, malware, etc..)Somewhere along the line, I noticed "Rootkit: TDSS" but all the instructions for removing it that I have found depend on booting into normal mode. At this time I can boot into all modes of SAFE MODE, but unable to get to desktop in a normal boot.I really need someone to help me through this issue please.

The short version of my question is exactly what the topic says-- Can I install a Dell-provided OEM version of Vista on a non-Dell computer?

But, here's the wordier version giving context, if anyone's interested.

About 10 months ago, I guess, I got a Dell Vostro that came with Windows Vista Home Basic. However, I had no interest in Vista (because I already had a Windows machine) and the very first thing I did was install Ubuntu on it. I still have the Vista reinstall disk, though, which, to my memory, hasn't been used.

Now I'm planning on getting a barebones system and upgrading what I see fit. For the time being, I'm going to use the Windows 7 RC, but I'd like to get the uber-great upgrade deal that they're having to pre-order either the Business or Home Premium version upgrade. So, to do that, I'd need an XP installation or a Vista installation. Is there any reason, legal or software-related, that I wouldn't be able to install Vista using that disk that came with the Vostro?

I heard somewhere that sometimes if you try, it'll say something like "This is not a Dell computer, you evil, evil person" and refuse to install, so I wanted to make sure before I pre-ordered the upgrade. I don't want to get the upgrade and have nothing to upgrade, of course.

At first it didn't show the wired desktop on the laptop under the network. On the wired desktop under network, It showed the laptop as a music sign and not a computer icon. We deleted the workgroup name and retyped it and changed it to a private computer. have disabled both firewalls. The laptop is running Trend Internet Securioty. It then found the wired desktop on the laptop. But it still doesn't see any of the printers that are connected to the wired desktop.Tried to find the printers by typing in \\192.168.100 under the run command. It said it couldn't recognize the wired DNS address 192.168.100. That is the ipconfig address from cmd and then ipconfig from the wired Dell laptop.

What do we need to do to have the laptop see the printers?

What can we do to get Vista to be happy again?

This howto:
http://www.pro-networks.org/forum/about78184.html#dualboot
says:
"DO NOT resize the Vista partition during the installation of the Linux distribution! Due to the change in NTFS versions, no Linux partitioning program, nor standard Windows partitioning programs, can properly alter the partition that Vista is installed to."
But we're too late for that...

Ok here's my issue.

i bought an emachine t5082(yes piece of crap out of the box, what was emachiens thinking making a vista machine with only 512megs of ram with part of that shared with the video card).

it came preloaded with vista home basic but had all sorts of things on (which is why i don't want to use the restore disc even if i could fine it).

my problem comes to validating the new installs. I have a version of ultimate i use on all my pc's (yes its a workaround/cracked) and it didn't work on this pc even though it worked on the others flawlessly. So i tried versions of home basic and home premium>

i even found my retail copy of home premium and that didn't work either. I even went as far as to go to windows xp, same problem. 2000 wouldn't even install for some reason (vista said it was too old and the install option was disabled).

I heard that emachiens might have the key for the preloaded copy hard coded into the hardware or bios. I contacted them and they said no nothing is coded into the pc (and if that was the case everything should be working fine). Microsoft just sends you back to them saying its hardcoded and a new temp key don't take (this is the problem is the validation key does not keep).

I have thought maybe it was something staying on the hard drive so i put in a different hard drive and kept that one out, still the same. I even took the battery out of cmos overnight hoping that would reset it but still no luck.

A:pc won't validate os key

Check the BIOS. eMachine could be lying, stupid or both.

Consider the PID is just wrong/bad/etc...

Sounds like a warranty issue. Beat eMachine with a stick until they give you what you want.

Although it seems like a lot of work to get an O/S to run on a machine that at best will only run poorly.

It looks like you have a corrupted file: sppobjs.dll. That's part of the Windows operating system, and it deals with software protection. Have you had any viruses lately or any other corruption/crashing problems? If not, you may be able to repair the file. Open up an elevated command prompt (run the cmd.exe file as administrator) and type "sfc /scannow". Allow the system to reboot and scan and repair damaged system files.

A neighbor of mine asked me to look at his HP Pavillion 7915. It turns out that his problems were related to a failing harddrive. I replaced the harddrive with a new one but he could not locate any of the discs that came with his PC when he bought it and didn't make any startup discs either. I re-installed XP Home using an XP Home disc that I borrowed from a friend. When I did the install, I had some issues getting it going (ntldr not found, etc...). I finally got XP Home re-installed using the proper and correct Product Key that was on a sticker on the side of the PC. Everything booted up nicely and I started running Windows Update to get the os up back to current with security updates, etc.. and here is where I have run into a problem. When trying to run Windows Update a second time, after running it once and installing updates successfully, Windows Update wanted to validate this copy of XP Home. Authentication failed. I know I used a different installation CD than came with this PC but I DID use the correct Product Key. Now I get a message that says this os will stop working after 30 days if it is not authenticated. What to do now?

When I turn it on, once it gets to the desktop I get the message that I need to validate Windows....would I like to do it now....I click yes and then nothing happens. It hangs at the desktop screen with no icons and does nothing. Is there a way to get back to the window where you put in the COA?? I am wondering if he typed the code in correctly when he did it because I know one wrong digit can wreck the process. I have also tried to boot it up in safe mode but then get the message that it can't be validated in safe mode. I am at a loss.

Hello. I inherited a PC that crashed due to gpu problems, this PC was upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7. I purchased a similar PC and began to swap the parts from the old to the new one, shortly after the purchase the 2nd PC also crashed for similar reasons. In the end the new one ended up with a new motherboard and the OS from the first PC which I installed to the HDD by creating a backup image disc, the backup worked but now the OS won't activate; online or anywhere else, when I try to activate it I get error code 0x8007232B {DNS name does not exist}, I've tried everything that I could but nothing. Now keep in mind that I did inherit the first PC, the second PC had Windows Vista installed but I was so used to working with Windows 7 that I tried to put it on the replacement PC, I did manage to acquire the activation key from the first PC but I do not have the original software and cannot understand after trying all of the OS manufacturer's fixes why the activation won't work. Any suggestions? This error also keeps me from upgrading to Windows 10. On another note I have found a graphics display driver for the GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M (but can't remember where) but I know that it won't install until Windows 10 is installed but Windows 10 won't install until this driver is installed, I have also found a manual installer program for Windows 10 too I don't mind getting new OS software but who doesn't take the easy way out of a situation like this?

I purchased an OEM of Windows 7 Professional build 7600 in April from Newegg. The product was activated and valid until 10/26/2010. On the date, I received a splash screen that my product was not valid. I was asked to install some plug-ins, but the software was still did not validate on the WAG site.

I called Microsoft. They assured me that my product key was valid. My system still updates and runs Microsoft Security Essentials. I ran a virus and malware scan and the system is clean. After a return call to MS, the tech generated a new product key and installed it on my system. My product still shows as invalid.

What the heck. Doing some research, no published fix seems to apply. I thought I may have applied an update the rendered my system invalid, but this now seems unlikely since the new product key came directly from Microsoft.

I did not that a exploitation virus, CVE 2008, tried to install on 10/26, but was removed. Would this have caused the problem?

I really do not want to do a reinstall...any help is appreciated.

I recently was forced to re-install Windows XP after a virus caused a logon loop that prevented me from logging in to Windows.

I have an old Dell and either didn't receive an XP disk or lost it. I resorted to downloading a torrent file containing an XP SP3 iso. I figured I could still use my product key once I had windows installed. Unfortunately, this was not the case.

I have a valid key, and it's the same computer. I just called Dell and they told me I'd have to buy another XP cd for $18 - $19.

Any chance I can swap my key for a new one from Microsoft or are the product keys tied to specific install cds? I feel I should have the right to use XP on this computer without a further purchase.

Thanks

A:After OS Re-install, my XP key won't validate

and welcome to the Forum

The Dell Product Key is tied to an OEM version of either Home, Pro or MCE. The $19 deal from Dell is a good deal so that you wll have the install cd for the future or you could borrow one from someone with a Dell that has the same version as yours

Hi:

I would contact them, the folks that fixed the PC and ask them to fix it for free. I assume that you paid for the copy of XP Pro so you should have a disk.

Guessing they may have used a cracked copy of it. Lots XP Pro corporate

Governments have transformed the internet into a surveillance platform, but they are not omnipotent. They’re limited by material resources as much as the rest of us. We might not all be able to prevent the NSA and GCHQ from spying on us, but we can at least create more obstacles and make surveilling us more expensive. Hi, I have a friend's email address that is bouncing. Being Dyslexic, I probably wrote it down incorrectly so I would like to try various spelling error combinations that I often make. I started by trying to send emails but some of them never returned an Email Daemon error, so I don't know if they exist or not.

Is there a trusted email address checker? I ask about trusted as some that I found in a search were non-US-based and I do not want to to add a friend's email address (when I get it right) to a spammer database.

I can't contact the friend as she is with Projects Abroad and only has email contacts once per week and no phone services. I know, I should have tested the address before she left, but hindsight being...

Thanks

IMHO,
I would wait until she contacts you and save her e-mail address in your contact list.

I'm not sure who/how the certificates are maintained valid, but really am not keen on ignoring the warning.
Have other folks seen this, or know what to do?   I see this so many times, am more than a bit shy now.  Computer is a MacBook Pro current with all the updates.  Have been attempting to install a WD MyCloud....not going well at all with the warnings.

Hi,
I am trying to reinstall WMP 11. The download seems to go fine but I'm told to validate my copy of Windows before I can use it. I'm given two choices "validate" or "cancel". I choose the "validate" button obviously....it seems not to work nor will it go throuigh the validation process. I know that my copy of Windows is genuine so that can't be the problem. SOOO !! WMP will not install . I am now afraid to uninstall WMP 11 before reinstalling.....what if I have the same problem with the "validate" button again ?? Will I lose WMP for good ??....I don't know. Thanks in advance for any help.

I got a computer from "my son the lawyer" as an extra. I updated and negleted to activate windows as it was in the barn and in my husband's office and not on the net. Big Mistake. I brought it into the house to replace on old one, and when I opened it, it said I couldn't use until I activated it. Well, being that I didn't have it on the net, I used the telephone and it didn't recognize the update. I put in the disk for whatever reason and I can't get it out. The message says lto take the numbers off the side of the computer.Well, there are none. So I can't do that. There is a "scew" on the bottom. The computer is a "compustar".
All I really need is to get the cd out of the drive. I THINK I can go from there.

Hi,

Yes, Java looks like a good place to start.

Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
Visit this site Java
Click the 'Free Java Download' button.
The site will advise if you need an updated version
Follow the instructions.

After the install is complete, go into the Control Panel (using Classic View) and double-click the Java Icon. (looks like a coffee cup)
On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button.
Next, click on the Delete Files button
There are two options in the window to clear the cache - Leave BOTH CheckedApplications and Applets
Trace and Log Files

Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
Click OK to leave the Temporary Files Window
Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

Also, I note from your profile that you are running XP SP2. The latest service pack is SP3. You can get it here

After that is installed, you should visit Windows Update to be sure everything is up to date.

Hi Loith My name is Aura and I'll be assisting you with your issue. For the future, please do not run FRST fix that are posted in other threads for other users. These fixes are system-specific, and running them on your own system could lead to disastrous consequences (maybe even forcing you to clean reinstall Windows). This being said, I would like you to run FRST and give me the FRST.txt and Addition.txt logs to get started. I've seen this problem on this forum but can't find anything that I haven't tried yet. Here’s my problem; I've spent the last 3 weeks talking with Dell to resolve the issue. They have taken remote access, replaced my mother board and Ethernet cable + I have made numerous changes with Dell guidance and nothing has worked. I have also talked to my service provider who replaced my router and still nothing.

I am now at the point where i still have the DNS look up issue and neither Dell or my service provider are accepting responsibility for the fault..........
My only work around is to unplug my Ethernet cable and plug back in. This seems to interrupt a signal and get me on line.
I would really appreciate your help.

The Dell DVD probably overwrote your VAIO recovery partition. You can try to invoke it - usually with F10 key during boot-up. If not you will need replacement recovery DVDs from Sony. HP charges about USD $25.

Hi!

My university is member of the academic alliance, and thus I get to download most MS products for free. A while back (2-3 weeks) I downloaded and installed the RTM (7600) of Windows 7 Professional with a legit key.

A few days later, i get that popup box saying that my version could be counterfeit and that i should go online and resolve it, as well as getting that watermark to the bottom-right of my screen saying that my copy isn't genuine.

If I try to resolve this online, I get a message saying that the service will be available shortly after initial release date of 22. of October. I've tried to google this, but get swarmed by questions regarding RC or RMT without valid keys.

Is it any way to validate a valid copy of Windows 7 before that date? I don't really want to use modified files to get rid of the messages unless it's nessisary.

I should probably start out by saying I know very little about javascript, and I'm using code I saw in a book I bought to validate my form.

I'm trying to validate a text field on my form before the form is submitted. I'd like an alert to pop up if the text field has invalid data or is blank (invalid data is anything but digits).

I have tried putting in "onclick", "onblur", "onsubmit", "onchange" in the form area, the text area, and on the submit button area (i.e., like what I have below in the form tag).

I either get error messages telling me that it's an invalid method for that object, OR it will give me the correct alert for a blank field, but then continue on to processing the blank field value (not what I want), OR it won't recognize that I've typed letters in the text field instead of digits (which is what I want the javascript to check). In all instances, the form continues to process even though I'm trying to get it to return false and go back to the text area.

Here is what I believe are the relevant pieces of what I have so far:
Code:

<form name="mainmenu" method="post" action="nc_rpt_summary.pl" onsubmit="validate();">

hello. first off when i try to play starcraft online when i try to connect to the online server it says that it fails to verify the version of sc im running. ive looked up lots of ways to fix it but none have worked for me. the company that made the game says that this is caused by a virus and to scan with norton... not a fan of norton.. not buying the program and not installing it. but with that said i have run avg and kaspersky no luck they have not found any virus.. ive had a virus before that has injected itself into exe's my cousin has starcraft patched to the same version. after running a md5 hasher on both exe's the md5 hash was different. this could be a possible sign that the infected exe has been modified? the game company said that if the exe is modified at all that error will pop up and that some virus's cause this to happen. thought i would post a hijack this log to see if you guys see anything out of the ordinary and can maybe point me in the right direction here is the log.

You have heard this time and time again but here is my problem. We have a NT server, 10 workstations running w98se, we use a hub, 10/100. We purchased a new computer for one of the workstations, we took the replaced one and moved it to a different workstation, then took that replaced station out completly. The computer we moved was giving us a lot of errors, I think the operator deleted more than just files, so I ended up re-formatting and re-loading W98se.
I copied the protocol, workgroup, and domain down from all the other computers. I have "microsoft for networks", the adapter card"," netbui",and file and printer shareing. in the network setup. I have checked the "share level access control", log on to windows nt domain" and logon and restore places. I have also checked netbui as default.
we only have one workgroup, and our domain and workgroup are named the same. when I boot up I get the "no domain server error" when I click cancel and go to nn I cannot see the other 9 computers but they can see me, they get an error if they try to access it. I have set up sharing on "my computer"
I have looked at the user's on the server and I see nothing different for this computer.
I tried removing all from the network setup , then disconnected the cable, then turned the computer back on, it found the adapter card, I installed the netbui again, and sharing etc. restared again but it still doesn't work.

On the workstation you are having trouble with, go to Network>Identification and note the machine name. On the NT server go to Server Manager, delete that machine name and enter a new name for that workstation. On the workstation enter the new machine name and reboot. Hello All,

I have recently switched my network from a workgroup to a Win2K domain. I have a Win2K server and Win98 clients. All but one of my Win98 clients are logging into the domain with no issues. I have adequate licencsing on my server for all of my workstations. With that one individual workstation, I am receiving the message:

No domain server was available to validate your password. You may not be able to gain access to some network resources.

I am able to ping the server, and I my drive mappings are coming up right away if I "enter through". I have not had any issues gaining access to the server from this station. It simply will not validate the password.

Note: I have the password set as blank.

I have done the following up to this point, and it is after doing all of this that I am lost:

-confirm protocols are bound correctly to adapters
-uninstall - reinstall TCP/IP
-confirmed NetBEUI is loaded
-uninstall/reinstalled the DSClient for Win2K (from the Win2K server cd)
-deleted/recreated user account
-restarted between almost every task.

If anyone has an idea on how I can get this last workstation to log on successfully to the domain (validate password), I am open to any suggestions/questions/comments. I am stuck, folks.
Please help!

I checked the Wow-europe site and it said that it had something to do with virusses or trojans or something: http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=93929715&sid=1
I realised this might have something to do with the virusses or spywares or i don't know what, which have been messing with my computer for a while now.

I recently acquired a new program (ahem the game Spore) and this program needs to see the internet in order to validate itself. I have made sure that I am logged on to the internet and turned off my own personal firewall but the program still says I am not connected to the internet. Do you guys have any idea how I can get this thing to see internet? Thanks a ton. I am on a Mac OSX 10.5.4 by the way. I am not sure what kind of network I am on. If you know how to figure this out you can tell me and I will let you know any details you need. Thanks a ton guys. I really hope you can help me. I really want to play this game haha.

A:Unable to Validate Game Version

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

I've moved you to a thread of your own so please reply here.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:

http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Run HJT again and put a check in the following:

O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.113.108 85.255.112.197
O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.113.108 85.255.112.197
O17 - HKLM\System\CS3\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.113.108 85.255.112.197
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.113.108 85.255.112.197

Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked".

Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log in the forum please.

So, I need a "2 + 2" style explanation.

Thanks,

I have recently reformatted my laptop and now my wireless doesn't allow me

to connect. Whenever i try to connect the status goes "Validating Identity"

and afterwords tells me "unable to find a certificate to log you on" . I tried

resetting my router but it still gives me the same result.

It doesn't even allow me to type in the required password to enter.

Btw i use a acer TravelMate 5720

Update- i fixed it so now i can input my password for my wireless network key. But now it tries to load for a long time and doesn't work.
Would this be an error in my laptop settings or an error in me setting it up.

A:Wireless unable to validate identity

You will need to have a wired connection to your router to do this but what you need to do I think is access the routers settings (normally from 192.168.1.1 from your internet browser) and change the security settings from WPA2 to just WPA.

I have a legit copy of windows XP home which was validated some time ago. I have today gone into windows update (custom) to see what udates, if any are there, and after going away and doing it's check it has come back and said that I have to validate windows before I can use windows update

Windows has been updating fine and dandy from the start when I got the PC because windows has definitely been validated!!!

Have microsoft got a problem here or are they getting people to re-validate? If I leave auto update on things seem to work ok but as soon as I use windows update manually I get this message. The reason I asking this is there is a thread http://forums.techguy.org/showthread.php?p=2829498 which seems to refer to the same issue and it shoots off down the piracy route.

Hi, I had a Dell machine for several years now, and one day, I bought a new machine. The Dell machine came with a windows XP installation CD, which I had used many before to reformat my dell. Now, I just used it to install XP on my new machine (not a dell). I don't remember having to do this before, but I'm supposed to validate my copy of windows XP within 30 days, and I can't get any service packs until then, or use windows live, or whatever. no problem, I'll just validate it: the window pops up, and I try to enter the product key that I have stored with my old CD. I can't, because the text boxes don't accept zeroes.

I think internet validation keys aren't supposed to have zeroes or something, maybe they used to? I My old Dell which I got this CD with was bought back in 2001.
the product key I have for my installation of windows has an alpha-numeric format like this:
(6 digits) - (5 digits) - (3 digits) - (3 digits)

I know the above doesn't seem right, but I swear I remember having to enter this to install win XP back in the day. I even installed it on a friend's computer once (not a dell) with no problems.
I don't have to buy a new copy of Win XP do I? because the way I see it, I already payed for winXP when I payed (way too much) for a dell dimension way back when. it CAME with winXP!

OS information:
--------------------
I don't have any of the service packs yet.

A:have valid windows XP copy, but can't validate

you cannot use the dell copy to install on the new computer. that is why it will not validate. It is a violation of microsofts oem eula.

You need to access the recovery partition on the new computer if you want to reinstall xp. If the new computer came with vista, then you will need to purchase a new copy of xp.

Hello. I purchased Windows 7 online and installed it, and after a few days it started bothering me about validation. I bought it off of Microsoft's website and had no idea it would need a key or other. I can't find where the key would be, so I considered it a lost effort. So when I hit buy a new product key online it takes me to Genuine Microsoft Software, which does not work neither on Internet Explorer, nor Mozilla Firefox. When I try running the programs it gives me, it inevitably ends in an error. If I run legitcheck.hta it says Watweb.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. and when I downloaded the WindowsActivationUpdate, and I hit Continue button on the Genuine Microsoft Software, it tells me Please wait for the install to complete and then click Continue or view the troubleshooting tips. I only get the watweb error on Internet Explorer, on Firefox the page does not go past the continue button. I've no idea what to do at this point so I turn to this forum for help, I'd really appreciate any help anyone could offer. - Sharkie. Trying to post my diagnostic log, one second.....

I am trying to restore several folders from a backup on an external hard drive. The backup file appears to be empty (0 bytes), but I am certain it is not. When I try to restore some of the folders I get the following error:

> Restore encountered a problem while validating the zip file:
\\?\Volume{0f497a5d......435}\XXXX\Backup Set 2011-12-12 175633\Backup Files 2011-12-12 175633\Backup files 239.zip

The following information might help you resolve the problem:
The backup file could not be found. Make sure the drive that the backup is saved on is attached or try to restore from a different backup. (0x8100001A)
<

Strangely, I am not even interested in restoring from the backup in the error message, only from my most recent one (2012-05-04).

I have not moved the location of the backup, so the additional/hidden files should still be on the external drive as far as I know.

Thanks for any assistance!

A:Restore cannot validate zip file, 0x8100001A

Update:
I can manually go into the backup and extract individual files from hundreds of "Backup files xxx.zip" archives. It's only when I try to restore or search for files within the backup and restore tool that everything looks empty... almost as if some index file is missing/corrupt?

In a pinch I probably could extract everything and manually delete the oldest versions of everything, but we're talking over 100gb of backups over many months, and I'm interested in restoring about 600 files... If anyone knows how to rebuild the index that would save SO much effort!!!

A couple days ago I took a system image backup of Windows 10 to a 3TB drive - something unsupported in Windows 7 because of the 4k segment size. At least I think I took a backup - it did something for a long time. But I just looked at it and Windows says it's 0 bytes long. Is there any way to know whether I actually have a backup short of trying to restore it?

A:How to validate system image backup

When seeing a full system image backup made here my first move is to browse directly to the folder afterwards to see how large the system image is. You simply to the location with an explorer window. For verification of the integrity that would take having a spare drive you can restore the image to and boot from afterwards long enough to verify a working image had been created.

Let me take a few minutes to talk about the mysterious 2TB limit. In fact, in a word, it is due to the type of initialization performed on the disk. Your disk is MBR type! The MBR supports up to 2TB per single partition. So you can only see and use 2TB in your computer. How To Solve The Problem? Now that you have known 2TB is the max volume in a MBR disk. I also want to tell you that there are two types of disk, another is called GPT(GUID Partition Table), a new partition/disk style, which support bigger than 2TB. So the solution is converting MBR to GPT? Yes, it is!
At first, verify that your computer equipped with UEFI if your system partition is in the pre MBR disk. The UEFI will show up in the bios. Second, it is about operating system requirements. You can consult the chart below.

When my friend's Compaq computer became so corrupted as to make it unusable, I re-installed Win XP but was then not able to activate it either over the internet or by using the "telephone" method. The XP installation disk had been purchased and used to initially install Windows XP several years ago when it had been purchased to replace the Windows Vista OS that originally came with his computer and used again a couple of years later for a "re-install" when he was again having problems. Attempts to get advice over the internet have provided no solutions. Attempts to find answers on the Microsoft web site always result in just taking me to a "page" for purchasing Windows 7. Microsoft "support" for this is virtually non-existant and it is not yet April 2014. Also, after a re-install of XP on my Dell computer, I cannot download the Windows "Updates" because it will not complete the "validation" process. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

A:Cannot activate/validate re-install of Windows xP

I had a similar experience with XP. I attempted to re-install the OS and activation failed with a message that the disk had been activated too many times and the number was no longer valid. Admittedly XP has been always my "experimental" OS and I had used it many times. You may well be in the same boat!

I decided to wipe my hard drive yesterday, for a few reasons. When i was complete, it asked me to validate windows by putting in my cd key, i said sure, and happily put in my cd key. It said this cd key is no longer valid, as it has been used on too many computers? Or something to that avail. I have only used it on 2 of my own computers, and ipurchased it seperately, as my first computer was custom-made by a friend of mine. I bought my second computer and it had vista, i didnt feel like re-learning a new operating system just yet so i down-graded to xp and had no problems. Flashforward 6 months, and now it will not let me re-install windows. Does anyony know if microsoft will fix this for me? They charge 60$ for support help, and i dont want to pay it if i wont get anything out of it. Any feedback is appreciated.

THanks in advance.

Specifically, I fail to list KB3033929 no matter what approach I've tried.

I've used Get-HotFix, wmi (win32_quickfixengineering), wmic qfe get Hotfixid & even the CreateUpdateSearcher() method.

When trying to install the KB on the server I get the following message:

On one of my computers when I try to get passed the login screen I just get a little box which gives me an error number and says there was a problem trying to validate the license. I can only manage to get passed the login screen when in safe mode. When in safe mode I get the WGA box at the bottom of the screen telling me I can validate it online, but it's impossible because all network connections are disabled. I've tried to login in safe mode with networking but this also gives me the same error message and won't let me go further.

Anyone any ideas what I can do to validate it? Cheers

Okay, so my computer is a dell optiplex gx260. I've had it for a week or two. I bought it off of ebay. It was working fine a few minutes ago. Before I turned it off I was running some cleaner program I downloaded off the internet(I needed space to run WoW). So then I turned it off, but when I tried to log back in I keep getting a message saying "this copy of windows must be vaildated with microsoft before you can log on. Do want to activate now?" If I hit no, I'm kicked back out to the log in screen. Then If I hit yes, A prompt comes up asking if I want to open/save the program actshell.htm. If I hit open I get a
message saying

"C:\WINDOWS\system32\oobe\actshell.htm
not enough Quota is Avaliabe to process this command."

Then A nice little white screen comes up, and when I close out of it It kicks me back to the login menu.

When I hit save It asks me where I want to save it. I put it in documents, but it doesn't open and again leaves me with the same white screen.

Oh I believe I was running Windows xp Home edition

I have been reading about how MS is trying to control the spread of pirated versions of Windows by checking your computer at update time. I bought my refurb computer already installed with Windows from the seller. I assume it's alegit version- he entered in a code. But what if it isn't. By allowing MS to check and validate my version in order to download updates, if they find it's not valid is there a process they use to shut down my computer entirely so that it becomes non-functional? I'm afraid to continue in case this happens.

Can anyone let me know what goes on in this new process of their's.

thanks

A:Safe to let MS validate your Windows version

From what i am hearing it just will not let you download the updates and other items. I also heard they take you to a page and offer you a free or reduced price legit copy if you tell them where yours came from.

Few days a ago I've started experiencing something weird in IE. I keep getting "There is a problem with this website?s security certificate " when I go to certain encrypted websites. For example I can't go to https://craigslist.com3 but I can to go https://amazon.com without seeing the error. I can go all the websites using Firefox.

Another side effect is that some Inline Images with Data URLs don't show up in IE.

I've tried uninstalling IE11, reset all the settings in the settings including the advanced section, and checked the time and date on my computer. None of those are it.

The only recent changes I can remember is downloading jdownloader 2 and unregistering some missing dll using RegDllView from RegDllView - Register dll/ocx/exe utility. It's possible I unregistered an important dll but I compared the list of registered dll with two computers and looks like nothing important is missing on my computer. I'm pretty confident its not a virus or spyware.

I'm looking for ideas to try now. Bing and google haven't been much help.

I have just replaced my motherboard after the original was fried by a lightning strike. I'm thrilled that the computer now is working (I'm not a computer geek so replacing the motherboard successfully was a major triumph for me). However, now I am getting messages that I cannot use Windows update since my Windows 7 does not pass the validation test. I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded software to test the validity of my operating system and (hopefully) reregister it, but was unable to. I have the product key for the software but the Microsoft program doesn't even ask for me to reenter it. How do I re-validate my operating system without having to purchase or reinstall the software?

A box came up on my daughters net book asking her to update her windows media player.we clicked the box to update.then it says we have to validate it..we wont through the process, it said it had been validated but we still cant use the media player as a box still comes up saying "validate your copy of windows" so i rang dell he took control of the computer & did the same as i had done..he could nt work it out either..so he passes me on the software team that wanted to charge me £75 to sort it out ( the net book is still under a year old) so i thought i would try & sort it out myself. i have also tried taking it back to a restore date & it wont restore from any date at all....then i tried to re install the disc but then when it comes to putting in the product number it would nt take that that either saying it was invalid..so im stuck..as this is a genuine microsoft product..

i hope some one might be able to help me pls.

Greetings all

First off thanks for the effort in helping me resolve this.

When Logging into World of Warcraft, I get an error stating 'Unable to verify game version' this coudl be due to curropt game files or interference by another program.
I have since had my roomate tell me 'I' logged in and disbanded my guild and whatnot. I've recovered my account with another computer, reset my passwords and the like - but in the meantime, I can't log in from my own computer because of the (supected) keylogger trojan continuing to generate said error.

The solution offered in there forums and by tech support is to use the fixwareout program, which has been pulled universally from the internet. Malware Bytes doesn't find anything, and Kaspersky AV originally found a backdoor.win32.hupigon.cfeh - cleaned it - and has since not reported it again, nor anything else.

Still can't log in - same error. I work-around that I'm sure can't be 'safe' and is definetly not a real fix is to run WoW on another user within XP. This DOES work on my machine - but clearly doesn't resolve the real problem.

As such, I come to you good people. =) Save my poor paladin from certain doom!!

Attached is the DDS log - I also have a HJT log if you'd like to see that, and I can go about generating anything else you need. Thanks all.

Hi. I'm having an obnoxious issue with my otherwise fine laptop. It's a custom-built but very professional laptop XNi771cu 17" with quite some horsepower (4GB RAM).Anyhows, I called Windows Support here in Belgium, gave them the total Product Key of the Windows 7 Professional (32-bit) installation DVD and Product-ID displayed below at my System overview window. Support says all data seem to work out and are legitimate. Maybe the WGA verificator is corrupted or something. When trying to activate Windows 7 Professional again by entering the product key, then the verification process loads but in the end gives a failure message: "During the activation of Windows a problem has occurred. Error code 0x8007000D. Klick on 'More information' to find a possible solution. You can also contact Microsoft Support by phone... (etc)".When I try with the "slui.exe 4" code in command prompt, I only see a message box appear lower right of screen "Your version is not authentic, please activate Windows now". I tried the WGA Diagnostic tool as well. The first five items check out as fine but the last 4 parts do not pass (they light up as red). They are:Checking "Windows Validation ActiveX loaded"Checking "Office Validation ActiveX loaded"Checking "Validation help AxtiveX loaded".In any case, I have run a ComboFix.exe after having closed down all virusscanners (I use both Norton 360 and Spyware Doctor). I just had some... Read more

A:Activatin or WGA module bug - cannot validate Windows 7 Professional

Hahahahah !

I solved it by myself doing two things. Firs I made some changes doing a registry edit with regards to auhorizations and later, I found this great Microsoft Fix that worked in my case

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2230957/

And then I activated the whole bunch via the telephone dialer. This time the code strings DID appear underneath the 9 number sequences The confirmation code came via texted SMS and the activation worked !!! Bye bye lower right hand code "This version is not genuine". It's absolutely ligit - since I bought my Windows 7 Pro anyways on DVD

And now when my Windows asks to install that obnoxious KB971033 update that likely caused all this misery in the first place, I will decline all the time

Please, the people who have similar problems don't ask me via this forum page for a solution (I think I actually got quite lucky)

Hi, I received a message stating: Info-error attempting to validate the winsock base providers:2
Error- Not all base service provider entries could be found in winsock catalog. A reset is needed.
Info- Redirecting user to support call
I did the reset in command prompt as I read you told other people with this problem to do. But I still keep getting these messages.
This is my sister's Dell Latitude 620. I would be very grateful if you could help me. I used AVG and I think pc is clean. When I try to connect to a website page states that Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

Good morning all,

I am trying to upgrade one of our Laptops in our lab to Windows 10 Pro. It currently has Windows 7 Pro on it, and when I attempt to use the DVD copy I burned I am getting the dreaded "Setup has failed to validate the product key".

I went back to my settings and re-entered my product key again just to ensure that was not the problem and Windows 7 accepted it (again!) and activated my copy. However, when I ran the setup again it gave me the same error message and I am not able to continue with the install. And yes, I have tried using administrative credentials to no avail.

It's not defective media as I have already used this disk to upgrade another system to Windows 10 (however, the other system was a HOME install, not a PRO install). Further to that I tried using this disk on another Win 7 Pro install and it worked without incident. So I know it has something to do with the system or Win 7 Pro install itself on this PC.

When I try installing from boot it will not allow me to upgrade the current system - it tells me to boot into windows to complete an upgrade.

Any ideas? I checked the system logs and there is no mention as to why the install is failing. I'd prefer to do an upgrade as opposed to a full install as I have a lot of configs and settings that would be a major PITA to redo.

Thanks.

Went on Skype to send a note to a friend, when I closed a pop up saying new video message came up looked like part of Skype.  Well two hours of removing junk with Revo and Add & Remove programs things seem Ok!  Except for this nasty applet saying I must validate my Windows, needless to say I have not clicked on update now.  How do I go about getting rid of it, I am thinking it is a form of ransom wear.  I will not be using this laptop until early tomorrow, but will watch for any help that comes my way.

Currently when I do data validation for a list that I have, I highlight the cells that I want validated (i.e. P365000). Then I click on data>validation. I highlight the cells that my list is stored in and click ok.

I am wanting an easier way to highlight the cells that I want validated instead of clicking on cell P3, holding down the shift key and scrolling to P65000 to highlight.

We find ourselves adding more to the cells as different issues come up and we are constantly validating.

I am trying to troubleshoot a client's access to a web site. She is able to access the site from other PC's in her office, but from the one at her desk, she always gets the following error page. Her PC is Windows 2000, running IE 6. It is also running McAfee Security Center. I tried disabling the firewall but that did not help.I have researched this problem online, but all the solutions I have found are directed to the webmaster. I realize the website has a problem, but they say "Since you can access the site from some PC's the problem is not on our end." I am hoping someone can tell me of a change that can be made on the client PC that will allow access to the site. Or that someone can tell me what, specifically, to tell the webmaster to get the problem resolved. I tried accessing the site from my PC and it works fine. I remote in to the client's PC and it fails every time with the following page. Thanks in advance, adaniel==========================================================================Server Error in '/' Application.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Unable to validate data.Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request.
