unable to view photos

Q: unable to view photos

I purchased a new Dell computer a year ago and installed Trend Micro AV on it... a few months ago I started having a problem that I need help with..When I try to view a photo (in an attachment) it will download and when it should display the pic, I get a box that says. "cant display _____jpeg because it is corrupted".

I have recently upgraded my Trend Micro AV and that is all that has been installed since the computer was bought..

Another thing I need to tell you : When I received an e-mail recently with 7 photos , it let me view the first one and then I started getting the same message box when I tried to view the remaining ones.

Also when I scan photos to save to the computer (from digital photos of my own), after they scan I get the same "corrupted" message.....

Help please!!!

A: unable to view photos

That is a file association problem I think.
The system reports files as corrupt when there is no program associated.
Rightmouse click, open with, and try to open your files with whatever you have as viewer for jpg's
Let's see if that works

Ive looked in device manager but i dont see Display Adapter.
I am now at a loss on how to proceed.

You are running Windows XP SP2. You can start by installing Service Pack 3. Download Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 - MajorGeeks Then do all Windows Updates, even the Optional ones.
If you still have problems, go to Start/Run and type SFC /scannow and press enter. Put the XP CD in and it will replace any missing System Files.

Many images will still display when the files are damaged but with a part cut off past the damaged area.

Try opening them with a different image viewer, too, just in case.

Hello, would you please help me!,

I once had an earlier version of NetZero internet service and had absolutley no problems with it. I moved out of the country for a few years and put the computer, along with the rest of my things, in storage.

When I returned to the States I was informed by NetZero to install their latest version, which I did. Soon after installing it, I started having problems with photos. They wouldn't appear; all I would get was black with a faint outline of the picture, usually purplish dots. By the way, I've tried turning off the "TuroCharge" function that alters how pictures load. It is completely "off."

Then, my computer began having problems shutting down fully. It would not reach the "It's Safe To Turn Off Your Computer" message. On re-starting it, as it would go through the scandisc program, it would always go through the NetZero program's files hesitatingly slow. This is another reason why I think the NetZero program has wreaked havoc with my computer.

I began calling NetZero about these problems and all they could recommend was to re-install the program. I've done this about six times now.

I've now reached the point where when I pull up "Yahoo!" the search box is completely black, and images like photos don't come in. If I go to the New York Times on-line, not only do photos not come up, but if I try to view an article, the screen is deep purple. Now if you can imagine ... Read more

A:I can't view photos or much of anything else lately.

is there any way you can get rid of netzero and go with something else? i know aol is crappy but its free and has never ruined any of my computers. hope this helps you.

I am unable to view diagrams in normal view. Application is Word 2003 9.0.6926 SP3

Print Layout view is fine.

In the format Object -> Layout -> Wrapping Style (inline with Text) is greyed out.

Printing of the document is also fine..it's just the problem with Normal view.

Also, seems like I keep losing the positioning of the picture (network diagram created using autoshapes and MS Draw)

The above problem is not document specific but reflects in all docs files.

Also, in another document, when I double click embedded equations (written using equation editor on another PC), equation editor doesn't launch itself neither is there any error message. This problem is document specific.

Anyone..any ideas?? Please advise!!

I had problems with pictures not getting displayed at all. I could only see blank screen and ocassional picture. This problem was solved by reducing the hardware accelaration. This can be done by display properties->settings->troubleshoot->hardware acceleration. Try lowering it to halfway or less and see if this solves the problem. It solved my problem.

Hello. Right, he's my problem. I've been using my parents computer for the last few months and decided to make my own user/log-in the other day. After doing so, I cut/pasted my photos folder into my new user directory (or whatever, I'm not very techie..). I have thousands of photos, my BF is a photographer, and I can view most of them. However, in one particular folder 90% of them aren't viewable! Says I don't have permission... When I log back into parents windows, I can see the photos in my directory (as they are no longer located in theirs) but there are little gold padlocks on the ones I cannot see on my log-in. I've tried changing permissions, ownership, you name it.. I've looked for help on line and tried everything. The only thing that seems to work is if I right click on each individual photo and change things that way.. but I do have a life and this will take AGES.. Can anyone help me?

If you need more information, please ask.

Anyone remember the old way Windows would show photos in folders, a ton of thumbnails?

How do I get that back so I don't have to hit preview 500 times to find a photo?

A:How do you view photos in a folder

First thing I would do is to right-click on the folder that contains the pictures and then select Properties. On the dialog that comes up, select the Customize tab. There is a dropdown box there that you can select to tell Windows what kinds of files are in that folder, in your case select Pictures. In addition, in any folder, you can change the view and select how you want to see the files listed. In the Upper right hand area of the Explorer window there is an icon that looks like boxes with lines next to them. If you hover over that icon it will show "Change your view". If you click on the icon, each click will cycle thru the available views. On the side of the icon is a down arrow. If you click on the arrow, it will bring up a list of the various views you can select from.

For some reason the photos on our pc view too dark. It's done that since we got it. It also prints the images too dark. The images/photos are fine if viewed/printed through the photoediting software that came free with the pc (Photo Impression). If I get a photo attached with an email it views too dark also.
I'm wondering if it's Vista as we didn't have this problem (with the same photos) on our old pc which was Windows XP and I've added some to our new laptop which is Windows 7 and they view normally there too.

We've just got Photoshop Elements and whether I transfer photos from the original file on the computer or upload them from the camera to PSE they view too dark there too. However that problem I think is besides the main point - I think if I can somehow sort the original problem then PSE will be ok too.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any answers? PLEASE!

You probably didn't enable external monitor support on your laptop.

Right-click your desktop (in any empty space...don't click on any icons), and choose "Properties" or "Personalize". Go to Display Settings, and click on the large black box with the number 2 in it. Check the box that says "Extend Windows onto this monitor", and as long as your TV is set to the correct input, your desktop should come up on your TV.

Hey everyone, I hope this is the right area to post this.

I recently just upgraded to a new computer that's running Windows 8.1 and had all my media files (mostly photos and text documents) from the old XP computer saved on an external hard drive. I plug the external HD to my new computer and can access the drive itself, but I can't view nearly 90% of the content! Videos and music files seem to work fine, but none of the photos or document/text files will open, which are the most important to me.

The document files say "access is denied" and can't be opened and when I try to view the photos it says "Windows photo viewer can't open this picture because you don't have the correct permission to access the file location". Even when I try to move or copy&paste the files out of the external HD, it denies me.

How can I fix this problem? How do I get permission to my own files? I tried to "take ownership" of the drive...but I'm not so confident that I'm doing it right because I haven't been able to find any instructions on doing it with Windows 8.1 ... and what I'm doing still hasn't helped.

ANY help or suggestions that anyone can give me on how to get permission to view all my photos/documents again on my new computer would be awesome. I'm a photographer so I'm pretty horrified at the idea of not being able to access my photos. The drive itself works fine and all the files were acce... Read more

I have had issues viewing photos since upgrading to Windows 7. The message I was getting in Photoviewer was:cannot view photos in photo viewer because you do not have correct permissions. I followed the instructions in a 2007 string from TheOutcaste and ran the command: icacls *.* /reset /T /C in the folder where my photos was stored. This made it possible for me to see approximately 80 to 90 % of my photos which is GREAT. However, I still have a fairly large number of photos which are not accessible unless I go through the tedious manual task of assigning myself as the owner. I've run the command again and can see that on those photos which cannot be seen that there is a notation that access was denied. Any additional ideas on what I might be able to do in order to "release" these photos in mass...and not manually one at at time?? Thank you in advance. skyglover

I'd like to start sharing privately videos and photos in some private cloud drive with a group of close people. It would be sort of electronic photo/video album. Most computers are 8" Tablet PCs, OS is Windows 8.1.

There is a question how can I view these photos/videos when one (or more) of these people is offline. The best thing would be an application which automatically caches the photos/videos which are viewed most often or "starred" or "liked" most or "rated" as best. The application would cache (for offline viewing too when there is no internet connection) those mostly viewed/starred/liked/rated photos/videos on each computer, depending on which photos/videos were watched on that particular computer.

What I plan is just keep putting all the photos/videos (probably from all the same computers) to some cloud drive, and - the best thing would be - just let the mostly watched photos/videos to sort naturally in each cache. Or maybe there is some feature to rate photos/videos (somewhat like in windows media player).

Is there a way to auto-cache some amount (let's say up to 2GB or 5GB) of the most often viewed files (for offline viewing) instead of having all of them on those devices? I'm asking this because those tablet PCs have a rather limited storage capacity (and are also limited on internet connection quite often too).

Here are some tag... Read more

Recently, I bought a large flash drive to back up my pictures (about 3.9GB of family photos). When I restarted my computer, I went to view my pictures and was unable to access anything. The files are still there, and 60% of the pictures still have their thumbnails, but every one of the 9909 pictures says that the file cannot be accessed when you try to open it.

If you can help me, I would seriously be eternally grateful. Just dumb down the advice a bit if it involves stuff like registry edits, because I only have a moderate knowledge of advanced stuff like that!

Thank you!

A:Unable to access photos

You should never store precious & irreplaceable files on a pocket flash drive unless you have copies of them elsewhere - those drives just aren't reliable enough for that.
They were designed for short term storage such as transferring files from one PC to another. Buy a "proper" external drive for long term storage, but even then you should always maintain copies of them all on at least one other drive.

To get round your problem try this:

Start >> Run

Type E:/ (substitute E with the actual letter your flash drive currently uses).
Click 'OK' or press the <Enter> key on your keyboard.

When emailing attached photos from Windows 7, the recipients are unable to open them. They get this little "x" in a square box. When my wife sends them over to me, I have no problem. What causes this? Is it from the sender or the recipient's pc?

A:Unable to open photos

1. Probably the forwarding method not comparable with your client or ISP. Try creating the photo as a file in your computer first.
2. If you have more than one Email account, send from a different one. Just works that way.
3. Send as attachment rather than inline.
By experimenting you'll find the sure fire method.

I have loaded pictures from my HP M407 camera to my computer many times. I was away for the summer and my son did some upgrading to the computer while I was gone. Now I can no longer upload any pictures to the computer. I get the message "Device is not connected or busy" even though I have checked both ends of the cable connecting the two. The camera is also turned on. I did try re-installing the Hp Image Zone to see if that would help. Any suggestions?

A:Unable to upload photos from Camera

I've separated your query into it's own thread. Please don't hijack another thread to post a new problem.

Try my USB "rain-dance" to flush incorrect USB configurations and see if that sorts it out.

Create a file with NOTEPAD containing the following lines and save it as FIX.REG
-------------------------- cut here --------------------------------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]

"DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES"="1"
-------------------------- cut here --------------------------------

Double click on FIX.REG and say yes to the Merge Into Registry question.

Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Disk Drives that you know are not present.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

It might be an idea to tell us what imaging/graphics programs he has on his machine.

Or you could tell him to download and install Irfanview and accept all the file type assignments it asks to use.

I ran ping to the url and the ip and both give me request timed out. I have tried on both my desktop (vista) and laptop (win xp). I do have a belkin router but have had the issue before I bought it. I do have windows fw and avg 9 on both computers but I have already tried disabling both and even uninstalled avg at one point to make sure it was not blocking it. I am not trying to do this from school or work. Please help, I am so annoyed with this.

I have experienced issues loading pictures to FB but it is usually as a result or FB servers being bombarded at certain times of the day.

Hi all,

I have a Dell Dimension 8250 Desktop computer with Window XP (Home Edition) and for the last 5 years I was able to copy pictures from my computer to CD by using the "Copy to CD" function line in the Window's "File and Folder Task" pull down menu.

But just recently for reasons unknown the "Copy to CD" function line has disappeared. Instead I tried to use the "Copy this File (or Folder)" function line to copy pictures to a CD in my F drive. Then a "Move to" destination window will show (which is normal). But when click on the F drive line (with a blank CD) the following message appeared basically I cannot gain access to the CD drive.

Has any fellow members in this forum experienced this same problem? If so I have appreciated very much for a fix of this glitch or point out if this my operator error. Thanks,

Using Windows 7 with Windows Live Mail. When I receive an email containing photos and try to forward on I often get a message that photos cannot be found. The recipient receives a message with boxes containing red "x" and the photos are shown in a slide show at the top. Completely destroys the message as the photos are not in line with the text. I have checked the box to "convert messages to photo emails when sending photos" and I have unchecked the box. Neither way makes any difference.

Unable to select Microsoft Photos app for .svg file association when using the Open With context menu

So I tried installing ownership context menu to actually access the Microsoft Photos app, which pointed to the directory, C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\

But there is no exe in that folder, and it seems when checking task manager and opening file location of the Microsoft Photos app when it's open, it points to a created folder inside the above folder. So it creates an individual folder each time the application is open.

The option isn't under Settings \ System \ Default Apps \ Choose default application by file type

So there is no way of selecting the Microsoft Photos app to associate with .svg

I have always been able to copy my photos or music using the "copy all to CD" button, however this has now disappeared.
I have checked that the IMAPI CD burning service is set to automatic, and I have checked the Recording Tab in enabled on the Drive.
Oddly enough, I can back up my Itunes library to Cd with no problem, and also found I can back up my photos using the Canon software installed.
I just wondered if anyone else has lost the "copy all to CD" button, and what they did to get it back.

My friend is recently discovered that she is no longer able to print pictures from Windows Image Gallery. When she selects the option to print, the printer says it is printing, but there is nothing in the print queue and nothing actually prints. We must turn the printer off and on again to reset it. She can print from other programs and I was able to print a test page. I created a test user account and was able to print photos just fine from there. Haven't had a chance to try Microsoft FixIt yet, but I will be giving that a try. I also have not yet tried reinstalling the printer yet. This issue seems to be specific to her primary user account. The printer is an HP Photosmart. The OS is Vista. Any suggestions?

A:Unable to print photos from Windows Image Gallery

Did she by any chance disconnect the printer and plug it into a different USB port? This is quite often the cause of this problem. The easiest thing to do would be to delete the printer and then add it again.

I'm not making any headway on answers.Microsoft.com so I'm hoping the experts here can explain why I cannot replace the Photos app with Windows Photo Viewer as the default image viewer (in build 10240). From all outward appearances, it seems Windows Photo Viewer is unavailable.

The saga is explained in detailed words and colorful pictures here:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/i...2-83ece717ddfb

If that's too tl;dr for you, here are the bullet points:

Windows Photo Viewer is never listed as an option when using "Open with"."Open with" lets you browse the disk and manually select the desired program. I navigated to "\Program Files\Windows Photo Viewer" but it contains no program there other than "Imaging Devices" (wrong). Choosing "PhotoViewer.dll" produces an error message. In Control Panel's "Default Program", Windows Photo Viewer is shown to be associated with TIF files and nothing else. Attempts to set JPG to use Windows Photo Viewer fail because, again, its program folder only contains "Imaging Devices" (and the dll).
In an attempt to fix this problem, I used the "nuclear option" and Reset the PC. After Windows 10 (TH1 10240) reinstalled itself, I still couldn't select Windows Photo Viewer to be the default image viewer.

Suggestions to fix this?

A:Unable to replace Photos app with Photo Viewer as default (10240).

use faststone imageviewer, it is way better than anything microsoft offers

Today I was on the Web Md site, and by chance I noticed that the same thing was happening. I can only access the buttons by moving the cursor over the right area. I imagine there are plenty of other websites that I've been to that have had buttons that I couldn't see.

I'm trying to use a " Help Directory " in a program but am unable to view any related images, All I get is a window with a small check box. Reviewing the properties gives me the following information,ms-its:help_imgs.chm::196 Series of transitions.png.

On a few occasions I'll have the same problem while surfing in FF or Chrome browser. Not sure on the file extension for these.

Is there something to check-uncheck to fix this. I'm using Win Seven.

Thanks for any help...

hello, i just started having this problem a few weeks ago and have just dealt with it but its too frustrating, when i open IE or Firefox it goes to my homepage (yahoo) and unless I have just ran CCleaner and cleared the cache it wont display anything, then if I have just ran CCleaner it will go to yahoo then my mail then open 1 email then stop displaying most web-pages again, it will still display other web-pages, ones I believe have no flash on them, but I'm not sure if that's the reason, any help will be much appreciated, thanks Dave.

I use microsoft security essentials and am running xp sp3.

I have a client who is having a problem with his 2 remaining XP systems. It's an auto repair shop and they use an online site to view schematics for vehicles, wiring, etc. These schematics are all in PDF format.
Many of them are viewable with no problem, but many are no longer viewable on the XP systems when using IE8. When you click the link on the page, for a minute fraction of a second you see the diagram flash in the window frame and then it goes blank. If you
use another browser such as Firefox all the PDFs view just fine. But this client doesn't like change (hence the XP systems still in use) and doesn't want another browser but wants to keep using IE.
I have uninstalled Adobe Reader and reinstalled it, installed FoxIt Reader, reset IE several times, made sure all cache was cleared out. Nothing helps. So it appears that the problem is specific to IE8 since Firefox can display the PDFs fine on those same
XP systems. I've also tried changing preference settings in Adobe Reader security and internet sections but they didn't help.
When you login to the website it flashes a message about "checking your browser" but doesn't give any errors as if the checks were passed.
So I'm checking here to see if someone might have an idea of something I may have missed. I believe that there must be some incompatibility at that site with IE8 that isn't detected, but I don't want to assume that if there is something else that can be
done. I'd love for him to just use Fir... Read more

I am having a problem viewing web pages after connecting to the internet through a dial up modem. I have contacted my ISP and was told probably Spyware. I have installed Ad-Aware plus on my computer and I am still experiencing the same problem. When I enter an address such as "google", the blue bar appears at bottom of screen and then stops about 1/4 through. It then redirects to "mytotalsearch". What is going on? I am able to access my e-mail but nothing else. The screen comes back and says cannot view this page and at the bottom is says "Server cannot be accessed or DNS error". I am running Windows 2000 and Microsoft Internet Explorer. PLEASE HELP I AM VERY FRUSTRATED!!!!!

Whenever i go to Mtv.com, all i get is a page that is black. Nothing on the website shows up. The only thing on the site that works is the tv schedule. I thought that by upgrading to IE7 would fix the problem but it hasn't.

Hi Everyone, I have Windows XP System and always have trouble viewing pictures and other graphics. All I can see is a small red X in the top left hand corner. Does it have to do with Internet Explorer? Can someone walk me through how to correct this problem? Thanks in Advance for your help. Susie

A:Unable to view pictures

Hi Susie, are you talking about viewing photos on the internet?

If you are, open your Internet Explorer and go to TOOLS/Internet options/Advanced then scroll down to 'Multimedia' and make sure 'Show Pictures' is checked.

As the title says, Windows Vista will not allow me to switch to 1440 x 990 resolution, which is the native resoltuion of my monitor (Samsung Syncmaster 16:10 19" Widescreen LCD). Any ideas? It only goes up to 1280 x 1024 in any settings menus. The LCD did come with software, am I going to have to install it to get this resolution back? I am using the latest beta drivers from nVidia, by the way. Any help is appriciated.

A:Unable to view in 1440x990

You can only hope that future drivers allow that resolution. If it is not an option, chances are that it is not supported at this time.
