I have a Satellite C850-101 running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1

When I turn the laptop back on from Shut Down, no sound comes from the speakers or from the headphones.

If I restart the laptop the speakers and headphones work fine.

So every time I turn my laptop on, the speakers do not work and they will only function again when I restart..

A little investigation of this problem shows the following...

Whenever I turn my laptop on and go to Control Panel->Hardware and Sound->Manage Audio Devices I see two items:

1) "Speakers - High Definition Audio Device - Not plugged in" with a greyed out speaker icon with a red arrow.

2) "Digital Audio (S/PDIF) - High Definition Audio Device - Default device" with a coloured external amplifier icon (looks a bit like a DVD player) with a green tick. There is an audio level icon next to it which does show sound whenever sound is played on my laptop, but no sound is audible either through my speakers or headphones. I believe this is for the HDMI connection

Whenever I subsequently reboot my laptop and go to Control Panel->Hardware and Sound->Manage Audio Devices I see one item:
"Speakers - Realtek High Definition Audio - Default Device" with a coloured speaker icon and a green tick. The sound works perfectly fine.

I have uninstalled the sound drivers, reinstalled them from the Toshiba website and also downloaded and installed the latest drivers from Realtek.

Hey guys.

My laptop is a TOSHIBA Satellite L775 (Windows 7) and for quite a while now Iíve been having Ďstutteringí problems with the sound. If Iím watching a youtube video (or listening to music files on my hard drive) occasionally the sound lags. It wasnít too much of a problem at first but itís happening quite often now and is incredibly annoying/worrying.

Iíve checked out a lot of forums and questions online regarding similar problems, so far I have disabled and replaced my sound driver (although there are like 5 NVIDIA sound drivers I did not have the option to uninstall), disabled a few programs/services using the msconfig (although I donít think its related to the processor or processes, my laptop has 4GB of RAM and an intel i5 processor, Iíve ran pretty intensive games on it in the past with no problems so canít see it lagging over music).

I tried downloading a new Ďatherosí network driver, I didnít uninstall the current one as Iím in the middle of revision and donít want to cut myself off from the internet by mistake. I simply downloaded the replacement driver and ran the install wizard for it, the problem still wasnít fixed.

It might be worth nothing that after I disabled a few programs to see if it was the RAM that the problem seemed to get worse, with massive hangs in the audio. The first time I remember seeing this was almost a year ago, I was playing Crysis 2 and the game/sound crashed. Occasionally after this the stuttering would occur whils... Read more

This has been happening for a few months now. The buzzing/stuttering varies and it's quite annoying. It only happens when I watch YouTube videos or just videos in general. I'm not sure if it's a hardware problem or just a driver problem. I have a similar problem as these people: except that my computer model isn't a Dell. My main browser if Google Chrome if that helps.

I ran DPC Latency Checker and this came up:
Some device drivers on this machine behave bad and will probably cause drop-outs in real-time audio and/or video streams. To isolate the misbehaving driver use Device Manager and disable/re-enable various devices, one at a time. Try network and W-LAN adapters, modems, internal sound devices, USB host controllers, etc.

Recently I've been having some problems playing back any sort of media.  At regular intervals the audio will freeze/skip for a second and make a loud buzzing noise, then resume.  This happens with both music and streaming videos. If I'm watching a video, the screen will freeze for a second, buzz, then resume.
I'm using an xps 13 9333 with Windows 8.1 64-bit.
I've tried everything I could think of, updating all my drivers, reinstalling codecs, running anti-virus, and cleaning out my system.
Any suggestions?

I have found a solution 2 days ago Dell installed an update for dell support assist and dell support agent When i removed these programs from the Control panel the problem went away.
I have windows 7 64 bit (dell XPS L720X).
Some background i originally had this problem two years ago and it was related to McAfee anti virus. My guess is its do to a periodic scan or something like that.

After my computer did its usual updates, I've noticed a sound issue whenever I've been trying to play games/watch videos. At regular intervals the audio will freeze/skip for a second and make a loud grinding noise, then resume. This happens with music, streaming videos, games, pretty much everything. If I'm watching a video or playing a game, the screen will freeze for a second, then resume.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron N4110 laptop with Windows 7

I assume I need to install a new driver or something, but I am pretty computer illiterate and don't exactly know what I need/where I need to get it from/how to figure out what I need.

Was hoping someone could help here.

A:Audio buzzing/stuttering during videos/games

Since the screen will "freeze", suggests the sound problems are just a result of whatever is causing the PC to hang up and not directly a sound problem. Thus another forum section would be more applicable than the sound section.

You can run the Resplendence Latency Mon program and that may help, if you can figure it out as it gives you "information overload".

Hi all,

I'm posting in the Windows forum because the exact source of the issue is unknown. If we come up with a more precise cause I would be happy to move the discussion to the appropriate forum.

The problem is a brief sporadic stuttering or digitization noise (very similar to some elements of dubstep music actually). It sounds like a quarter-second of audio is repeated at high speed and then it goes back to normal. This happens with variable frequency; sometimes once every minute or two, sometimes as long as 45 minutes between occurences. The frequency seems at least partially dependent on the graphical output being used, but it's hard to tell for sure. The problem is quite immersion-breaking, and it extends to all uses (local music, streaming, gaming, movies, everything). I suspect that the entire computer (not just the audio) may be pausing/stuttering along with it, because sound effects never get desynced with video; for example when people are talking in movies their lips never get out of sync with their voices, despite the audio pausing while it stutters.

This problem started about 3 weeks ago, and I had not made any hardware or software changes that I am aware of.

Possible solutions I have already tried, without effect:
New GPU (same model as old one)
New PSU (same model as old one)
Disconnecting HDMI
Running only 2 monitors
Adjust NVIDIA settings for performance not quality
Rolling back GPU drivers twice to different versions, then updating
Moving TV a... Read more

Having reserved a copy of Windows 10 some weeks ago to upgrade this, my 85 year old mother's,laptop I am now seeing on Toshiba's 'support' site that this model (relatively new) does not/will not support Windows 10!
I am hoping that this is some sort of error and that an experienced Toshiba user will be able to clarify the situation or, even better, a member of Toshiba support staff should they ever look at the forums.
If this is really the case then Toshiba should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves and I would never again buy or even think of buying another Toshiba product.

A:Satellite C850 - trying to get Windows 10

One of the drivers need updating or removing in Win8.1

In Control Panel, uninstall the Windows 8 drivers then run Windows Update to install the Microsoft-supplied driver. Uninstall the Antivirus as well.
It's probably the Touchpad, display, sound, or wireless driver causing Win10 Setup to crash and revert back.

My laptop won't switch on. I had the Sweet Packs toolbar come up and I never got round to removing it. Then last week it wasn't plugged in and ran out of battery. When I plugged it in it wouldn't boot up. I am completely at a loss.

I have pressed f8 and tried to turn it on in safe mode, restore back to last good configuration, repair it, etc and none of them work. It always just goes back to trying to boot and failing. It asks for the Windows 7 start-up disc, but we don't have one.

I am not particularly computer literate and am now panicking a bit. Has anyone any advice please.

Ok, so I've tried my best. I realise there are a few nice things about Win8 but like a ginger stepchild I just can't accept it as part of my life. I've had the laptop for 6 months now and regardless of changes I make I just keep on coming back to the fact I am trying to force Win 8 into the way Win 7 works which is daft when Win 7 is available. The only real reason I have held back is that Win 8 was the pre-installed OS (Toshiba should really review that decision, it's a horrible OS for anything other than casual tablet use and effectively cripples their hardware). However the time has come, I simply can't continue. Win7 must return to the throne.

Going Forward:

Anyway, preamble aside, I have a couple of questions regarding the "downgrade". First off I have used the Toshiba 'Recovery Media Creator' to create the backup disks (which I presume return the laptop to the "out of the box" state) and backed up any important data. I have Windows 7 on a bootable USB stick (A legal copy too - oh, how decadent!).

I believe I need to set the _Secure Boot_ to *Disabled* and the _Boot Mode_ to *CSM Boot* in order for my bootable USB stick to be detected. I have read several pages about this and some suggest I will need some sort of SATA drivers on the stick too. Can someone confirm is this is true or not? If it is true, where do I get them from (URL if poss?) and where do I put them on the stick (root? Will it ask for a location?).

A:Windows 7 installation on Satellite C850

Preinstalled versions of Windows 8 uses UEFI instead of a BIOS so you cannot boot from CD's or USB keys that expect a boot sector.

However you can enable BIOS emulation:

Go into the BIOS and then to the Security Tab, disable Secure Boot.

Then go into the Advanced Tab then System Configuration, change the Boot Mode to CSM.

Hi all

For some reason, neither my internal nor external DVD writers will burn DVDs. My internal DVD-RW is a tsstcorp cddvdw sn-208ab. Th external DVD-RW is a tsstcorp cddvdw se-208db.

For a while I could burn a DVD by using "Fix it", but then I'd have to reboot, use "Fix it" again, but now that doesn't work at all.

Sometimes there is one driver shown (C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys) and sometimes there is a 2nd driver (C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\GEARAspiWDM.sys).

I've tried uninstalling the DVD-RW drives, and rebooting.

I installed the Gear driver update, but then I couldn't find it in its location.

About 6 months ago, I had similar problems and fixed it by deleting registry keys (upperfilters & lowerfilters), and that fixed the problem at the time.

Maybe I need those keys back? One site recommended adding an UpperFilter within the same folder, containing the text "GEARAspiWDM" & rebooting, which SOMETIMES allows me to burn ONE disc, then the reg key is gone.

I tried uninstalling the most recent Windows update, but it made no difference.

I have used a range of burning software- doesn't seem to make a difference.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

My Satellite Pro C850 was purchased in March 2013. By December 2015 the battery would not hold a charge long enough. In December 2015 I bought a new genuine Toshiba battery from a reputable company Now only 3 months later my laptop shows a red cross over the battery indicator. Unplugging the power lead still allows me to use the laptop but seemingly randomly the laptop hibernates/shuts down without displaying the reason. After this happens I have to plug the power lead in again to restart the laptop, although I can unplug it again later without the laptop dying. For purely personal reasons my power options are set to Never for all choices. All this does not stop me using the laptop, but it can be annoying when the laptop suddenly saves everything and shuts down.
Are Toshiba laptops susceptible to battery changes and not detecting new batteries?

A:Satellite C850-b71 - How to get Windows 8 product key?

Toshiba does not provide any serial key for system activation.
In most cases Toshiba notebooks are preinstalled with Windows system which is already activated or the activation would be done during the first internet connection.

I guess you did not create a Recovery medium which would allow you to recover the notebook back to factory state. Such recovery disk (medium) could be created using the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Media Creator software.
It?s always recommended to create such medium because the HDD can start to malfunction and in such case it would not be possible to perform the HDD recovery procedure.

Anyway, to cut the long story short; the recovery disk can be ordered here:

How do I remove the keyboard from the laptop to give the inside a cleaning ?

A:How to remove keyboard on my Satellite Pro C850-14C

I read that this is not very easy?
You will need to remove the CD/DVD drive firstly.
Then you will need to use a plastic stick to push the back of keyboard from the slot in ODD housing. The keyboard should be pushed until the corner raises upon top case surface.
After that using the same plastic pry slice to insert the gap between keyboard and top case, then pry keyboard edges carefully until all latches are unlocked.

By the way: doing this would will cancel the warranty?

First of all you should know that the setting (CSM/UEFI mode) needs to be changed only if you want to install non-UEFI capable system (Win 7 and older).
Win 8 and Win 8.1 are UEFI capable systems and you should be able to use the UEFI mode option.

How about the secure boot option?

Hi all,

Recently purchased a Toshiba C850 laptop for my wife.
Working in I.T the first thing i did was run windows update, it prompts updates are available and starts downloading.

However, it just sits forever on 0%, I have checked the download folder within software distribution and this fills up with the updates, however the windows update screen never changes.
I have ran updates on other win 8 machines on the same network so I know it is not an internet issue.
Have reset the pc using the reset my pc function within windows 8, tried again and still the same.
Ran the fix windows update files from microsoft support....still the same.

Even if i choose just one update to download and install it just sticks on 0%.
Cleared the contents of the software dist\download folder. started the update again and this folder begins to fill, but even after leaving for 24hours its still on 0%

Have reset all windows update components, checked nothing is using the same port as the windows update server and still no luck.

One thing i have noticed is that if i try and stop the windows update service then the whole laptop grinds to a halt, it will start to stop, however then hang on the stopping screen.

The only was to get it to stop fully is to end the svchost.exe which has other critical system processes associated to the specific process which is running.

Any ideas at all as i am left with this laptop which just will not update despite being set back to factory setting... Read more

If I use option "toshiba maintenance utility " and win 8.1 as target operating system I get an invitation to choose either 1 ) delete all dat and partitions from the hard disc or 2) delete all partitions and overwrite all sectors on hard disc.

What will these do to my computer ? would I end up with a useless piece of junk or will the operating systems still be there. There are other options
such as "reset your PC" when all personal files and applications will be removed, and PC settings will be reset to their defaults . What will be left on the computer.

I have not tried from revery discs yet and wonder if this is the best option.
Can anyone help please.

I repeat I am certainly no expert or anywhere near.

Hi everybody,

we want to use a Toshiba Satellite Pro C850-111 with a docking station Dyna Dock V3.0, which is brandnew.

Unfortunately it does not work. We istalled the all-in-one driver from the delivered CD. It is not possible for us, to mirror the screen content to an external display (1920x1080). There is a black frame on the top and the bottom of the external display.
We connectet the DynaDock with the blue USB-port. But in the device manager (Windows 7 64) there is an unknown USB device.

Can anybody help me? Is there a new driver version for our constellation?

Have you installed original recovery image that you have created on USB stick?

Please try to install it again. Usually after clean recovery image installation your notebook should start properly.

By the way: have you noticed this issue immediately after installation or later after some updates installation.

Have you tried to solve it using Windows start-up settings?

Hi there people,

I'm wandering if there's a possibility of upgrading the i5 3230m that's currently in my Satellite Pro C850-1H8.

Looking at the options available on the socket FCPGA988 and the Intel HM70 chipset there seems to be a variety of the i7's available for use.

Does the laptop support CPUs with a greater max TDP than 35w?
Also does the bios support any of the CPU upgrade options?

Cheers, Nick

A:Satellite Pro C850-1H8 - BIOS CPU upgrade support

In this forum you can find different threads about the CPU upgrade theme.
I found this one:

Paolo and Macius posted some information about the CPU upgrade situation.
As you can read in other thread, the CPU upgrade isn?t supported. Upgrades can be done at your own risk and nobody could say if CPU supported by chipset would be supported by BIOS.
Test it if you want but this is your own risk.

I own a Toshiba Satellite C850 Laptop. I bought it on amazon UK and it came with 2GB of RAM.

I'm really happy with it but 2GB of ram isn't enough anymore.

Last week, i bought 2 more gigs of RAM.
The package says KomputerBay but the manufacturer is actually "Micron". So, i installed it and turned on my laptop but my laptop did not recognize the Micron memory.

The bios says that i have "2048MB" of ram installed, instead of 4096MB. Therefore, both Windows and Linux can only recognize 2GB of ram.

I then removed the original samsung ram and pressed the power button with only the Micron ram installed. Unfortunatelly, the computer didn't even show any image on the screen.

I already tested the Micron module on an old Toshiba Satellite L650 laptop and it works like a charm. So, the ram is not defective. Also, the ram is seated properly because CPU-Z detects it correctly:

Also, i updated the BIOS and i am using the latest drives from toshiba website. Is there anything i can try to make this ram work on my laptop?

A:Satellite Pro C850-1HE does not receognize new Micron RAM modules

> Is there anything i can try to make this ram work on my laptop?
I dont think so. For me it is compatibility problem. Send it back and buy 100% compatible module for your notebook model.
Your notebook model can be upgraded up to 16GB and compatible RAM modules have follow part numbers:
2GB DDR3-1600 - PA5037U-1M2G
4GB DDR3-1600 - PA5037U-1M4G
8GB DDR3-1600 - PA5037U-1M8G

I have two problems with updating the BIOS (the 1st is more important then the 2nd one):

1. While trying to install BIOS Update 6.70-WIN (29/11/13) it says that:
"The version of ROM file is the same as that of BIOS"
and it stops. In the DOS window it shows one phrase:
"NOT Windows 8 Platform, using Windows 7 update...".
I use Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit system but recently there has been major automatic update done to it.
I got lost. Is there anything I can do to update BIOS?

2. Earlier it says that Flash process will be terminated and I need to "contact OEM BIOS engineer to add the NV storage location by HISII interface". But if I want to risk I can continue etc.

Previously I took the risk and updating went well.
But is there possibility to contact OEM BIOS engieneer?

>While trying to install BIOS Update 6.70-WIN (29/11/13) it says that:

What is the present BIOS version which is available on your notebook?
In case the BIOS is already up to date, the BIOS flash procedure will be interrupted.

>"NOT Windows 8 Platform, using Windows 7 update...".
I?m not quite sure about the meaning of this information but it looks like the BIOS update was released for Windows 8 system and probably its required to upgrade the system from Windows 7 to Windows 8 in order to be able to flash the BIOS

By the way: why you want to update the BIOS? Just because new version is available?
Please note that BIOS update does not improve the notebook performance but fixes some issues. In case your notebook runs properly, the BIOS update is not very important

Dear all,

Nobody knows how we can activate "Numlock" button on startup from the laptop.

Concern : Satellite Pro C850 - 1LN

I search in the BIOS (6.70) > Advanced ... but nothing to find
I search also in Windows 8.1 but also without success.

Any idea to help me ?

Thanks in advance.

A:Satellite Pro C850 - How to activate "Numlock" on startup

Hi Marc

As far as I know there is no some special option for num lock activation and you cannot set is as default to be always activated. Additional numeric block on the keyboard is designed for usage with different applications like Office Excel and allow you comfortable numbers input in certain document.

On my notebook (P500) I have noticed that always when I switch notebook off with activated num lock it will be On by next start so let is ON all the time.

A:Screen bezel for Satellite Pro C850-1M7 needed

Notebook parts are not offered for sale. Not by notebook manufacturers so on Toshiba page you will not find anything.
Either you can try to order it by some Toshiba service provider or by some independent store. Usually googling around you should be able to find it either for Satellite Pro or maybe some Satellite C850. The parts must be the same.

I don't know where do you live and it is not easy to help you searching direct link for order.

When i put ram in each slot it does not start at all.

If i put only one ram in the slot it works perfectly.
While the old motherboard (c850-b820) was working good with one ram in each slot.

Any idea or explanation for that.

So I have absolutely no idea what's going on.I'm not the best with computers. Anything I put in the USB ports, HDMI cables, USB's, my mobile phone, none of it will read. There's no notification sound, nothing that pops up and says it can read whatever I just put in, literally nothing. Like no noise, or any sign that the computer read it. I checked the device manager, and all the ports, installed them and uninstalled and enabled them etc. I downloaded new updated drivers for it too, but it says it's already up to date. The ports aren't damaged that I can see. How do I fix it if Windows is insisting that I'm up to date and the ports are there? Please help! Thank you in advance.

About a year ago, I bought a Satellite C850-17G (PSKCCE) with Win 7 pre-installed. For a small fee, I upgraded to Win 8. Worked fine.

In November 2013 I wanted to do the free upgrade to Win8.1. It costed me 2,5 months and lots of reading on forums to finally finish the upgrade to Win 8.1. All worked fine for about 3 weeks.

Then I get some Windows updates pushed in, laptop reboots and there ended the succes story.
Blue screen and only option I had was to force it back to factory settings.
So there I am again with Windows 7.

On the Toshiba website, I now see that my model of laptop, Satellite C850 with Part n? PSKCCE is not a supported model for the Win 8.1 upgrade. Can someone tell me why?

Will it be supported in the future?

> On the Toshiba website, I now see that my model of laptop, Satellite C850 with Part n? PSKCCE is not a supported model for the Win 8.1 upgrade

Hmm? I guess you are wrong because on Toshiba EU driver page I could find the Windows 8.1 drivers for the Satellite C850 PSKCCE

BSOD issues are really annoying because this can happen because of hardware malfunction or also due to system or driver problems.
Even 3rd party software could affect the system?

Therefore it?s very difficult to say what could cause such issue without checking the single parts, driver and system reports.

Hello everybody!

I face a problem after upgrading my TOSHIBA SATELLITE PRO C850-1EQ preinstalled windows version 8 to 8.1.

After installation windows demands the product key in order to activate windows 8.1, but I haven't this activation key.

I called Microsoft (Greece) but couldn't help me and told me to call Toshiba (Greece).
The man from Toshiba's technical support told me to call back to Microsoft!

Also, he told me to check here ( before I start the process. Step No. 7 says "Remember your Windows password. You may need to enter it after updating."

Now I returned back to Win 8.

Is there a way to learn my activation key before the installation of w8.1?
I tried to find that using various tools but no one finded the key.
Plus, after the installation of 8.1, a message says:

+Error code: 0xC004C003+
+The activation server determined the specified product key has been blocked+

I trust Toshiba and I want to use the latest version of w8.1.
I would be greatful if someone technician from Toshiba could help me with this issue.

No, the preinstalled Windows 8 by Toshiba is already activated and during the upgrade to Win 8.1 you will not be asked to input any serial keys....

Is Windows 8 activated?

Try this: create the Toshiba Recovery DVDs (or USB flash memory stick). Use the Recovery medium in order to recover the notebook back to factory settings. Update the Windows 8 to latest state and then perform the upgrade to Win 8.1

The laptop now reads:

It has read this message for 40 minutes. After which I manually turned off the laptop using the off button. Upon turning it on again it began the update process at 0% and is now hanging at 15%.

What could be done about this issue?

Hi Theo

If everything is blocked I recommend you to reinstall OS using HDD recovery image. How to do this must be described in user?s manuals document.

After clean OS installation disable automatic Windows update and try to install updates in steps. Maybe few of them in each step and see what will happen.

I was getting indications on my laptop of poor battery performance and it was starting to run quite slowly (still starting up but very slow to get going). I've recently bought a new battery for it, charged it up completely, tried using it without being plugged in and it only runs for between 5-15 minutes before it turns off. It switches straight back on again but if i want to actually use it has to be plugged into the mains. Now i've got another service message from Toshiba telling me about poor battery performance. I'm thinking now it's a fault with the laptop itself? Anyone else had this problem and managed to fix it? Thanks.

There are different ways to repair or to recover the Windows 8 system.

In my opinion for the 1rs time you should try the "Automatic Repair" option which helps you to scans your files and settings, and if it finds a problem with one of them, it takes corrective action. No further input is required.

Am 90 percent positive this isn't the fault of a broken keyboard as the keys don't seem loose and have been working fine for a while.*
Basically, the other day I noticed the 3 and 5 number keys weren't working alongside the f3 key (meaning I now have to go into brightness settings every time I want to increase it). I thought "I'll just restart and see if that fixes anything" and it did... temporarily. I would have to restart every time I lost the ability to use these keys, but now that doesn't work at all.

There are no windows updates that need installing (upgraded to 8.1 update 1 recently).
There's no options for updating the keyboard driver (the box is greyed out).
There's nothing stuck under they keys nor do they seem damaged.

> I have asked this question on the Microsoft forums and I was informed to run the hardware troubleshooter (didn't help) and if that failed, to check for the latest keyboard drivers - I seem to have the latest for my model as the Toshiba website didn't list any keyboard updates.

It seems that this advice did not come from Microsoft staff but some ?forum users?.
You should know that keyboard drivers (designed by Microsoft) are always part of the Windows system. No matter what Windows OS you use, the keyboard driver would be installed always in connection with the OS. This means that special keyboard drivers DON?T exists but system uses own driver..

You could check the keyboard functionality in connection with external USB keyboard.
If external keyboard would work properly, the internal keyboard malfunctions and needs to be replaced.

If external keyboard would not work properly too, then I would recommend you to recover the notebook using Toshiba HDD recovery. Otherwise it might be motherboard (keyboard controller) issue.

If I use either F4/the windows key + P and select duplicate or PC screen only (or any other option) and then plug it into the TV, both the laptop screen and the TV screen are blank. Pressing any key does not bring up anything on my laptop screen, then when I unplug the HDMI cable it comes up with the second screen only option highlighted. My laptop strangely ignores what I click and constantly reverts back to this option and alas, I cannot project the screen onto any monitor (I have tried 4 separate monitors).

My laptop previously was able to be plugged into a TV and I have done this numerous times but as far as I'm aware this stopped when I had a windows 8.1 update (my assumption, I'm not sure). I have searched the web for solutions and none have worked. I have tried the method of detecting the monitor via the screen resolution option on the desktop, but again this can't be done because I can't see anything on either screen when my laptop is plugged into any TV, and I have tried countless times.

Any help is appreciated

Thanks a lot

A:Satellite Pro C850-1K3 cannot connect to a TV via a HDMI cable

I use Toshiba notebooks few years now and what I can say is that you must connect your notebook to the TV at first, enable the right port on the TV and then use FN or F key to change between notebooks desktop and connected TV.
Connected TV or other external device must be detected at first.

Please test it one more time.

One of our schools recently brought 20 Toshiba L850 and C850 Laptops.
As most of the staff use their VGA port to connect to their projector, The VGA port needs to be strong.

Over the last few days we have had 2 Laptops with the VGA Port actually come away from the laptop!
A simple nudge on the cable while it is connected breaks this port,
and we are unable to get a repair from Toshiba because it is our fault and is only 1 YEAR OLD!!.
Fixing this issue will set us back an entirely new mobo which will most likely be the cost to buy a new laptop.

Out of the 20 we brought we have had over half with faults within the first year of use. *under EU regulations regarding the item of being merchantable quality and fit for purpose these issues should be repaired for atleast 3 years of purchase date.* otherwise the item is unfit for sale.

Other issues we have had with these laptops within the first year of purchase have been Overheating, with Fans stopping.

We have had a Hard drive replaced TWICE with us having to purchase one our self's because Toshiba refused to replace as it was out of warrenty by 2 weeks. (warranty being only 1 year)

And finally a L850 that will not start. It stops at the Toshiba loading screen before even reaching the BIOS. ( faulty CPU or Memory ) Again this laptop breaking within 2 years.

Sorry to hear all this. Of course it is not the best opinion about Toshiba notebooks but the first thing I?m asked myself after reading your posting was: why they have bought these L and C models?

As every other notebook manufacturer Toshiba offers different models with different hardware platforms and different prices. Following my logic notebooks used in school must be pretty robust and designed to be more in use. If you compare notebook from series L and C with notebook series P for instance you will notice big difference in design, quality and workmanship.

Of course there is big price difference and I can imagine school have limited budget and must look to obtain machines but also save some money.

What else to say? It is really annoying to have such problems especially if you need those machines for work. My only advice for you is to pick up more info about notebooks next time. It can be Toshiba or any other notebook manufacturer. Best thing you can do is to contact your local dealer and check several different models. Pay attention about quality and design.

Bye and good luck

Hi all, my grandson has really made a pigs ear with his laptop. I have tried all I know to restore it without any success. I keep getting the blue screen of death with error messages i.e. 0xc000000f and 0xc0000225.

File: \WINDOWS\System32\winload.efi

To me it looks like an important file is missing from the Windows 8 pre - installed OS. Any help would be much appreciated.

I am desperate for some help to try and fix this issue with my laptop. When I first received my laptop (at Christmas) the majority of the windows 8 tiles on the start screen worked, however after a week or so they gradually stopped working, which is very frustrating.

When I click on a tile it opens to the whole screen however the wheel continues to turn and nothing loads. I have spoken to Microsoft online however they have said the issue lies with Toshiba as the laptop was bought with Windows 8 already integrated.

The suggestions they did make involving anti-virus and updates did not work.
The most frustrating part is the Windows Store tile does not work therefore I cannot attempt updates or new downloads to see if they will solve the problem.

Obviously I can use my laptop without the tiles, however I am annoyed that I have paid extra for Windows 8 and the best part of it chooses not to work!

Any advice on what to do next would be great, thanks in advance.

A:Satellite Pro C850-1EQ - Windows 8 tiles do not work

Guess what? Try to restore the system Windows 8 back to the factory settings.
Here you can find an documentation how to do that:

[Windows 8 Recovery & Repair|]

I recommend you using the option *Reset your PC*

+This option "Reset your PC" is useful when a PC is changing hands, or when you want to get a completely fresh start on a PC, with no previous files or configuration retained.+
+The Remove everything and reinstall Windows option permanently removes your personal files and apps from the PC and returns Windows 8 to its original state. That original state is either a clean install of Windows 8, or the OEM factory default configuration, depending on the media used for the operation.+

A:Satellite C850-B734 - need to know how to go to windows recovery

Please don't understand me wrong but I’m asking myself if you have checked user’s manuals that you got with your notebook. In this document is clearly described how you can start recovery installation and how all this works.
If you still have original factory settings create recovery media (DVD or USB) at first. Don't change anything. Create this media using preinstalled Toshiba recovery creator. Using this media you can reinstall Windows.
Of course you can start recovery wizard too -

Please note: if you change partitions structure it could happen that you will not be able to restart this wizard again. Due to this create please recovery media at first.

I have just purchased a new Toshiba Satellite C850, everything is working perfectly however, there is one thing which gets annoying...

The pointer keeps freezing once I start using it, i.e. I can click to open an app and the cursor will freeze for a few seconds before allowing me to use it. Or, once I touch the touchpad to move the cursor it wont move for a few seconds before it allows me to continue.

Even while I'm typing, I try to move to an area to select but the cursor wont move for about a second. It does this every time.

Does anyone know why this could be happening and how it can be fixed?

Thank you

A:Pointer freezes on brand new Satellite C850

Have you noticed heavy HDD activity when this happen (HDD LED is blinking)?
Maybe some activity in the background slows down notebook?s performance.

It can be Windows updates installation or something similar.
Do you use original Antivirus application that you got with your notebook or some other favourite application?

I have just recently acquired a Satellite C850 PSCBWA-009L001 to work on and I am installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit , I need to know the correct order to install the drivers as I have had issues in the past with other Toshiba laptops not working correctly due to not installing the drivers in the right order.

Hi everyone,

i just registered to this forum because I hope you guys can help me with a really strange problem.

Recently I bought a Satellite Pro C850-1MX
It came with Win8, but since I dont really like Win8, I bought an additional Windows 7 Pro (64bit) license and installed it on the laptop.

The problem I am going to describe, also happened on Win 8, which makes it even more strange.

As soon as I connect a cable to the RJ-45 port, Windows tells me, the LAN-Connection is not connected.
As soon as i disconnect the cable, Windows starts looking for a network and actually finds one!

So, the only way to connect to my LAN via cable is... i activate the LAN-connection, wait for it to detect a network (without a cable connected!) and meanwhile connect the cable to the network port.
Now...if i disconnect the cable again, Windows still says its connected.

I have to say, that im a professional network administrator for over 10 years now, so I should know my systems, but this has never happened to me before. Event log doesnt show anything, re-installing drivers didn do anything either. Im quite clueless here and I hope you guys can help me.

Thanks for reading and just let me know if you need any additional info!

Kind regards from germany,

A:Satellite Pro C850 - strange problem with LAN-Connection

Hi Sandro,

To be honest I?m confused.

I would try to start talking about the proper installed drivers since you changed the system to Win 7.
Are all network devices like WLan card and LAN card recognized properly in device manager?

As I?m not mistaken the notebook was equipped with Realtek-8111F (1000BASE-T/100Base-TX/10Base-T) LAN card and Realtek b/g/n RTL8723AE WLan card.
So both should appear in device manager correctly if you installed the drivers properly.

2nd Question:
You mentioned:
>As soon as i disconnect the cable, Windows starts looking for a network and actually finds one!
Are you sure that you are talking about LAN and not WLAN?
For me it does not make any since. If LAN cable is disconnected, the notebook would connect to WLan in case the WiFi is enabled.

Hi all.

I've replaced the original HDD of my C850 with a Kingston SSD NOW Fury 120gb. Hdd was gone and I choose that SSD just because it was the first I've find.

Now, I've made a clean Windows 7 install (which I've already done on the old HDD, due it was Windows 8 and I need 7 due to software compatibility) with a copy I've bought some years ago, it works fine, I can install the system, all the driver found on Toshiba website (except the Display Driver), but there i no way to run Windows Update.

I've read over the web, and in this forum too, that Toshiba laptop need to update Intel Rapis Storage Driver to be updated if you change HDD, I've done it with the ones delivered at Toshiba website (installed) and also tried Intel driver (installation aboterd, platform unsupported), but no way, Windows Update still does not work.

Any idea?

Hi everyone,

My new SPro C850-1HH came with Win7 Prof x64 installed and Windows 8 Installation Disks. To get a clean fresh installation i reinstalled Win7 Prof x64 from a clean MS-CD. I deleted all existing (recovery)partitions

Because i found no license-sticker on the laptop, i backed up the existing installed key using a keyfinder tool. Now i have the problem that the online activation don't work with the key that was formerly installed on that notebook.

I'm getting error code 0XC004E003 during activation, with options to buy a new key online or "Talk to a support representative," which link is useless (it takes me to Microsoft Help and Support, from there to the MS support website, from there it runs me in circles with no options for live chat or even a way to email, much less a phone number).

This fresh installation method worked for many times, had no problems so far with other new laptops. Can anyone help?

A:Satellite Pro C850-1HH: Cannot activate my fresh Win7 Installation

> Now i have the problem that the online activation don't work with the key that was formerly installed on that notebook
Many people have tried the same and it will not work. Original Toshiba recovery image is activated. You can install it so often you want and it will be activated every time. As far as I know the key cannot be used for activation of some other version.

What is strange for me is that you cannot find sticker with product key. Every notebook delivered with preinstalled OS has Windows sticker at the bottom side.

At the end I must say that I don?t understand why do you want to install own Win7 version. Original recovery image contains all necessary drivers, tools and utilities. Use this image and remove all stiff you don?t like. I do the same.

I have 3 Satellite Pro C850-A-10Z, A-15V and A-15Q
They are all running Windows 7 64bit

They have all recently received Tempro messages about a video player update
Toshiba service centre finds an update but it won't install on any of them - no error message given.

I tried installing it manually by following the Tempro link and downloading
the 11/02/15 Video Player

The updater runs and then gives the message
"can not find our player in your system. Installation aborted"

I thought Toshiba service centre was supposed to flag appropriate updates.
Does anyone know what might be happening here?

I am after a little help please. I have a Toshiba c850 satellite laptop. It started displaying an error code.
I have purchased a re boot disc off the internet as I did not have a one.

When it is turned on it goes to the windows recovery screen then to the Startup Repair Screen which concludes that 'Windows cannot repair this computer automatically'. In the problem details drop down Problem Signature 07 is 'Corrupt Volume'. I have removed the hard drive and run a diskcheck on it and that found four occurrences of a bad block.

I intend to get a new HD to replace this disk and I have secured all the data that I had on the disk. Unfortunately I do not have any recovery media. I understand that I can purchase recovery media from Toshiba. I wish to be assured that, before I start this expense, that my proposal makes sense. Is there anything else I need to be aware of?

Many thanks

A:Satellite Pro C850-10U - Corrupt Hard Disk Drive

At first I must say that you should upgrade your notebook with SSD and not HDD. This will increase notebook’s performance. SSDs are not expensive anymore so I think it is the best option for you.

Recovery media: if you don't have original recovery media for your machine you can order it on

I hope I could help you. If you have more questions feel free to ask.

I hope I can get help from this forum. Ever since I updated my OS from windows 8 to windows 8.1 my laptop(Toshiba c850) has refused to shut down, the screen goes blank(dark, signaling power off) but the power indicator still remains on, have had to do a forced power off several times.

Please help as am losing my mind.

A:After Win8.1 update my Satellite C850 wont shut down

In my opinion something went wrong during the upgrade.
This is nothing unusual since I read in different forums about strange issue after Windows 8.1 upgrade.

I recommend you to do following:
Set the notebook back to factory settings. Recover the notebook back to Windows 8
Update the Windows 8 to the latest state (all updates, patches should be installed)

Then check the Windows 8.1 upgrade information page and follow the step by step instruction which also contain the installation of Windows 8.1 drivers and tools in the right order!

Windows 8.1 will not boot
Laptop is *Toshiba Satellite C850 1NU*, as from Saturday it will not boot up!

*Error states "The boot configuration Data File doesn't contain valid information for an operating system.*
*File:\ BCD*
*Error Code 0xc0000098*

I have transferred recovery tools from another laptop to a USB stick and then enter bios of the Toshiba Laptop to make the USB drive to boot first.
It then comes up with the recovery tools.

I clicked on "Refresh your pc" it then reports "The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again".

I clicked on "Reset your pc" it then reports "Unable to reset your pc. A required drive partition is missing".

I have also tried "Automatic Repair" and it reports "Repair couldn't repair your PC".

I am at a loss as to get my sons laptop up and running again. Advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Not quite sure if it?s just an software problem so at first you should check if its software related problem?

Please check this Toshiba FAQ:

You could try to repair the system and if this does not help, recover it to factory settings.
