Q: copy and pasting in works word processor

I believe this rhread has been dealt with some time before i registered but...after i year without any problem in this regard, my microsoft word processor is giving me a message when i try to cut and paste ie: 'the information you wish to transfer exceeds the size limit of the word processor'
This happens even when cutting or copying one word or line!

I have been trying to copy and past into MS works word processor. but I get a message that says "the information you copied exceeds the size limit for pasting into the word processor. Please try reducing the size of your selection.

What does that mean. I've never had a problem copying and pasting before. But it was on a different computer. This computer is less then a year old and runs windows vista. Do you have any idea what is wrong here and how do I fix it?

I bought a new Computer about 7 weeks ago With Vista home premium pre-installed on it, along with Microsoft works word processor 8.5 and I can't paste text into a document with works word even when I'm trying to copy only a few words. It only happens with web pages and stuff like that, but I could Copy and paste stuff like that in XP to notepad, Word pad, etc. Can I not do that anymore or do I need a new Program or something. It says"the information you copied exceeds the size limit for pasting into word processor. Try reducing the size of your selection, and then try copying and pasting again." I have to go to paste special and selecting unformatted text. How can I fix it so I don't have to do that, because it gets really annoying?

I bought a new Computer about 6 weeks ago With Vista home premium pre-installed on it, along with Microsoft works word processor 8.5 and I can't scroll up or down the Documents and get to a certain point. It just Goes really fast from the top to the bottom and I can't get to the middle of a document. Also, I can't paste text into a document with works word without going to paste special and selecting unformatted text. How can I fix it?

I use Google translate a great deal. I normally copy and paste the translation either to an email or to Word. This has stopped working. I seem able to copy and paste anything else. I can highlight the translated paragraph, click copy, move to wherever I want it, click paste and nothing happens. This was working fine until today. Any ideas or suggestions welcome. Thanks. Hi Tech Support,
On three occasions on copy/pasting from ms word (saved as a 'doc'.) to an internet forum the top part (only) of it appeared in html. I have included a c&p below of the doc I used once but now see it doesn't do this on here. Thanks.

Hya everyone. I hope i am in the right forum. Could someone tell me how to change a letter in Microsoft Works processor into word format. My son is trying to email his c.v. to companies and agencies but got a letter from a couple stating unable to open file attachment please email in word format. We do not have microsoft word just microsoft works.

The computer I am currently using has Microsoft works, useless in my opinion. When I create a document in the works word processor, and then try to send it to someone who does not have Works, it opens on their computer as a mish-mash of squares, symbols, letters, etc.
I tried saving it in another format, but the same result occured. Is there a solution to this other than spending a few hundred dollars on Office or Word? Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forum.

Save it as a Rich Text Format file type (.rtf) or you can also have them install the converter which allows Word users to open up Works files.

just bought an e-machine last week with 2.6 pentium4 chip and 512 MB memory....nice fast machine....just big enough to cope with AOL 9.0... reason i had to let my old pc go...it couldn't cope with memory needed for AOL front-end loading (in all my days i never known a server provider
to need as much pc memory to connect online).
Another problem has arised...i'm in the middle of sending off resumes by email...all the technical agencies want your resumes posting in word .doc format, my problem is the new machine came with MS works 7.0 which saves in .wps format. The word processor that comes with it is a terrible hashed version of WINWORD..(it is awful)....why are all the new machines being supplied with XP operating system that only allows MS works to run. I've tried to install WINWORD for XP but the system won't allow install....so now i'm stuck with a word processor that saves in .wps when all the agencies use .doc, this must be happening to lots of people out there buying the latest machines, I suppose it will be okay in a few years when everyone is using MS works (this looks the way to go for word processing)....but at the moment they are not.
i've spent the last few days going to sites and forums to look up people with similar problems and there are people just like me with my exact problem, i've looked for any clues or answers but none of them look like they will work so i'm gonna have to rig up my old windows 95 / 32 MB memory ... works 7.0 allows you to save as .doc file,.....yes it does, but from what i've been reading on other sites when you open that works .doc file in WINWORD it screws it all up into a mess....I may as well just send my resume as a .txt file in notepad.
Also, there is a convertor software that allows conversion from .wps to .doc, but not all agencies who ask for your resume in .doc format will have this convertor software....and I heard that the convertor software also messes up the document...so there is no way around this. I'll have to wait a few years until i see agencies and companies wanting your resume sent in .wps format.

Hi All,

I have had a rash of Windows error messages saying that Windows couldn't open several of my .wps files and saying that they might be corrupt.

I don't want to give up on those documents just yet so I downloaded a Microsoft Office Word Viewer, the old one, to see if I could open them with it.

Then, following the installation instructions, I clicked on the wdviewer.exe installer and got yet another error message.

This one said; Windows Installer ! The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation.

Now, as I am the only system administrator of my PC and I haven't set anything like that, that I can remember at least, I would like to know where to look to see the policies that I'm supposed to have set.

Is that something that I would have done through the Control Panel or through the tools settings in Firefox, and why would it only affect this one download?

I mean I download, install and run everything else that I want to on this thing, with no trouble, so why would that program be any different?

Don't know what's going with the installation of the Word viewer, but I will tell you about opening up .wps files:MS Works and MS Word (full version) can open up .wps files. You would either have had to save the Works file as a .doc file first, or convert the file using Word after the Works Converter was added to your Word program.Read this Microsoft KB article regarding this issue: How to open a Works document in WordMy students have come to me many times for assistance with something like this, and without the converter, you can't open it. Rather, you can, but it looks like jibberish.

I have just done a clean install of W7 Ultimate 64 bit on 2 different Desktops. One is a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo 5905P the other originally an HP Pavillion which now has an Asrock Mobo. I have reinstalled all my programs--no problems there. I use MS Works 8 Word Processor. This worked fine on both DT's under XP. However, it now works only on the Fujitsu, but not on the HP. The problem is it doesn't find the Files in My Documents. With Word Processor open, when I try to open a Document, the My Documents window comes up, with the message No Files found---there is no list of Files shown---though all files are in place in My Docs Folder. They can all be opened by individual clicking in that Folder---they just don't appear in Word! I have repaired Word Processor---I have uninstalled it and reinstalled from original CD. I have even cleared My Docs Folder and reloaded all Files---makes no difference.
I don't like MS Office---so who can tell me how to get this to work--as it does in the other PC---and as it did on both machines under XP SP3!
I get no error messages of any kind.

My OS is Windows ME. I had saved several word processor documents to CD disc and was working on one. I closed it out, then tried to open it again and got the following prompt: "Works can't open M:\report.wps. The file may be used by another application, the file format may not be supported by any of the installed converters or may be corrupt". This happened to three other files on disc, but the last one is ok. Since I'm not a wizard at this stuff, is there anyway to get the files to open? If it has been corrupted, I'm probably screwed. If not, what can I do? The stuff on disc wasn't something I can duplicate from memory. I made the file with Adaptic CD Creator (which is also supposed to create regular CD-ROM type discs, but I've never been able to get it to do that). I tried the program's own "scan disc" to repair it, but it's a lot more limited than my computer's scan disc and it didn't seem to do much.

1. You can't repair a CD-ROM with scandisk.
2. Files on CD-ROM cannot be changed unless you have a re-writable CD-ROM disk.
3. I would never suggest anyone even attempt to work directly from a CD-ROM, rewritable or not.
4. Copy files from CD-ROM to hard drive, then right-click in Windows explorer and remove the read-only under properties.

Ask in the Other Software forum about CD-writer software.

i have vista home premium. ffter about a year of cuuting/copying and pasting suddenly i have a message appearing ' unable to proceed as the as the transfer exceeds the limit of the word processor capacity' even when trying to copy one word or line. I believe this thread has appeared before but i have only just registered.

I have MS Works Word Processor version 8.5 and it has worked perfectly for some time, but recently when I try to copy and paste it says "The information you copied exceeds the size limit for pasting into the word processor. Try reducing the size of your selection, & then copy & paste again" It doesn't matter how much I copy (5 words or 50 words) it does the same thing.
If I copy my information and paste it to notepad first then copy from notepad & paste to MS Works it works fine no matter how many words I copy.
This happens whether I copy from Internet explorer or other documentation.

Hi,

I have Wndows XP Home with Microsoft Works Word Processor.

I find that while writing the application continually/periodically fades back to a non-editable state and I have to continually re-click back on it so that my typing actually appears in the doc. Sometimes I have been writing for quite some time only to realise that it is not appearing in the doc. This becomes very frustrating when one is writing a manuscript.

I hope someone can shed light on why this is happening and what I can do to stop it?

Hi Everyone,I did a quick search of the forums and didn't come up with anything similar to the problem I've just started having with MS Word.I'll be working on a document and saving my work every so often. Then all of a sudden Windows starts telling me that it can't save the file. I goofed and didn't think quick enough to get a screen shot of that message.However, I was able to copy past everything, from the document I was trying to save, to a new document, which is what I did as I had already had the same thing happen to me a couple of times before. Then when I clicked 'Yes' I get "This" message.OK, so then I click 'No on exit to close the document and got "This" asking if I wanted to save the changes to the document. Then I Just click No because that's the only option that will let me close that application. Then when I try to open it again I get "This" dreaded message.Have any of you guys ever run into anything like this before?It doesn't seem to matter if the document only has ten pages or if it has one hundred ten pages. Nor does it seem to matter if I have a lot of images in it or none at allI am at a loss as to what to do to prevent this form happening in the future. At least I have a work around that I can use so as not to lose my entire document..., but this is still just a bit nerve wercking.Thanks for any help or advice guys.Wendy

When using the Microsoft Works 7 Word Processor I am unable to open a document that I have previously Saved, the computer hangs and the following message is displayed.:

"The procedure entry point [email protected]@@[email protected] could not be found in the dynamic link library dlbtutil.dll."

I have Googled the message without success and no previous relevant messages can be found in the Bleepingcomputer forums

This is probably a dumb question with a simple solution but, so far, I can't figure it out. I'm trying to write an outline for a research paper using Microsoft Works on my new Dell laptop with Windows Vista installed. Problem:
Every time I try to type a lower case letter (for sub-section of outline) as soon as I type a period or make a space, the small "a" immediately changes to a capital "A"(which I can only use under Roman numerals).
What am I doing wrong or how can I adjust this error?

Ah, the joys of the intuitive Microsoft selection of programs... What you need to do is open up the program options for auto-correct and tell it to stop doing automatic capitalization. If you like this feature, you could type "A. " (with the space), select the "A" and then type "a", and then click after the space.

Hello - I copied a file from someone's computer onto a floppy. When I put the floppy in my machine I received this message " Works cannot open the file because the file may be in use by another application, the file format may not be supported by any of the installed converters, or the file may be corrupt." The computer I copied the file from is running windows XP. The computer I tried to open the file on is running Windows me. The windows me computer does have microsoft works word processor installed on it . So It should be able to open the program. Both computers were purchased within a year and a half so programs should be compatible. I have tried opening the file with Word but that doesn't work either. Any suggestions? Just for clarity the file I cannot open is from " Microsoft works word Processor.

Im in the process of typing my term paper. I have works word and i start typing in it, like half way done it freezes. I restart the computer does the same thing, it doesnt freeze right away. i have win 98 thanks.

Does this freeze happen with other programs? If so, then perhaps the processor chip is getting too hot and everything will lock as you stated. If it's a desktop, make sure the fan on the processor is spinning and a wire is not touching it (causing the fan to not spin).

I bought my computer in 2008ish, maybe 2009, and it came with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. It also came with pre-installed software, and of those pre-installed software included Microsoft Works Word Processor. I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit last week, and I have been painstakingly installing my programs back after I messed up the installation. First, I installed Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit, then I realized I put in the wrong disc so I then put in Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, then I upgraded to Ultimate 64-bit. All my programs got messed up in the process and I basically have a clean install of Windows 7 with a Windows.old folder containing my programs in a folder, which all need to be re-installed. I can see my Microsoft Works Word Processor, but it won't let me run the installation on it. I tried running it in compatibility modes for every available option, but nothing works. I also ran it as an administrator. How can I legally re-install these programs I purchased? I have tons and tons of .wps files that I want to be able to open with a program I purchased with my computer. Yes, I have heard of OpenOffice and it does not support .wps files. I do have Microsoft Office Professional 2013 installed, but it can't seem to open .wps files (unless I'm wrong).

Microsoft Office 2013 is capable of opening Works 6-9 documents in a Compatibility mode.

To do that in Word 2013 you need to go File - Open - Computer - Browse.
In Open window you have to select a filter:

Um, sorry to bother you all with this but I need a bit of help with a works word file. The program does not want to open saying that it is in use, format not supported or its corrupt. I've tried re-installing works to no effect and I doubt its corrupt since I can see the text inside with a little space like a square between each character. Unfortunatly, its image heavy since its college work.

I really need to get this open so I can print it and hand it in, any ideas?

My computer recently had a virus, a friend came by to fix it and everything is up and running like before, but my Word still isn't working. I have a Desktop hard drive hooked up so i don't want to restart my computer. I tried changing the program in my set associations panel, and still nothing. Any other advice?

The margin settings keep changing as she writes, no matter how many times she changes them back, they won't stay on the settings she has chosen....also after 2-3 pages of written text, the whole screen goes blank and she loses everything she has written. Any help would be greatly appreciated (before she throws her new computer through the wall.

I was typing a document, saved it and closed it. When I went back to get I got this message:"In order to open this file Works needs to use a file converter, which may pose a security risk if the file you are opening is a malicious file. Choose OK to open this file if you are sure it is from a trusted trusted source."

When I click OK I get this:"Works cannot open (file name). The file may be in use by another application, the format may not be supported by any of the installed converters, or the file may be corrupt." and then receive a blank page.

Does anyone know what this is and how I can get my doc. back. This is happening with a few docs. but not all.

are having, . . as I am only familiar with word pad, etc.

but open a new file of the word processor and click save and then check the drop down under
the title window and check the options you have to save as, is it possible that an optional choice may be what you need to do ?

I've just been to see a machine which is running Works v7. The problem is that the word processor is unusable because it is going too slowly. It's "running" on WinXP and when I check the system performance I see that it (WksWp.exe) is using around 99% CPU time even though it's not actually doing anything. There is also the sound of much disk activity.

Is this a known "design feature" or is something going wrong elsewhere? I'm told it's been like this since the m/c was first bough a couple of months ago and no other application shows this behaviour.

I am wanting to help my mom. She can never remember to save her documents using Word (thats all she will be comfortable with) in rich text format or in .doc. The program first choice in the "save as" menu is .wps which is unreadable to many she has to submit documents to and also takes up much more space. Is there any way I can change the defaults or just make the .rtf the first choice in her choices of saving files?

You need to add the items to a table and then you should be able to do the sorting.

Look in the "Help" and search on 'sort' and the last entry is a helper.

This is really weird. Can you highligt the text on web page, right click and choose Copy. Then, go to your Microsoft Word, right click on page and click Paste. Did it work? Or what you can see when you do like that?

Hello, I'm not very good with computers so bare with me please

I am a university student and today when I went to open my class notes in Microsoft Works Word Processor I found nothing but a blank page. The file was still there, with the exact same name, but all the text was gone. The document contained 15 hours of lecture notes needed for an exam in 6 days, so I'm naturally pretty anxious for help. I have since turned my computer on and off. I have tried converting the file to rich text format and back, to no avail. The size of the document says a mere 16 kb now as well.

I opened the seemingly blank document with notepad, and found a bunch of jargon along with 2 interesting clues. One was very small pieces of my class notes here and there, in between the coding and jargon. The second was towards the end of the coding, where it said various random things about my HP printer. I did perform a printer test today, and was wondering if that did anything to delete or corrupt my notes.

I performed a system reset back to 5 PM (the file appeared blank at 6 PM, when it said it was last modified). The file is still blank. I have also checked through the recycle bin, nothing. I've got Windows Vista, and my computer is a Gateway Notebook, 5 months old.

My friend uses MS Works (version 8 or 8.5, I imagine, as her computer is a little over a year old) on a Vista operating system. When starting its word processor in whatever form, using a shortcut or from the Start menu, for example, the word processor fills part of the screen only. The maximise button has no effect. The bottom edge can be dragged to the bottom of the screen, but the side edges cannot be dragged left or right in the same way. Every attempt to obtain a full screen image has failed. This applies to the word processor only and has only recently occurred; the spreadsheet continues to open properly, for example.

I reset the Microsoft Works Word Processor to default with a different font size. It worked fine. Then, while setting up a printing for envelopes, I tried to reset that as a default as well. Big mistake. Now when I open the word processor program it comes up as the envelope function and I cannot get the original page for letter writing back. Microsoft was no help when I accessed their web page (too far over my head in their explanations as well as being not too user-friendly for my level of understanding). Does anyone know how I can get it open the right way again? I use Window's Vista on an Acer Extensa 5620. Thanks.

This only applies for the Works word processor, the common one in Works NOT spelled with a capital W, as in Word.

First, only do this with the Work word processor not going.
If you really only want one default word processing template in Works (and it sounds like you do), and if you have no other templates that you want (and it sounds like you don't) then you can just delete all templates in this folder:
C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Roaming\Template\
Then, just start up the word processor and see if it is fixed.

If that is not the case, just let me know and I will adjust and tell you what else you can do, instead.

I'm using Windows Vista on a Compaq desktop. When using the MS Works Word Processor it is always on "Times New Roman and font size 10". I don't use either of those but the processor is determined to make me like and use them. So anything I do is an excuse for it to go right back to them and I have to switch back to what I like and it is a pain. Grrrrr!
My question: Is there any way I can lock my preferences, for instance Arial and 12 font size?

My system is Windows XP and I feel my computer user level is just basic. I have lost all the history in my Microsoft Works(7.0) Word Processor. (no clue how it got lost)When I go to My Documents I can see all the files from history but I cannot open any of them. When I try to open a file it directs me to buy Word Perfect(R) 11 software with an upgrade to Word Perfect 12 for $99.00. Should I buy the software? Is there a way to move the files back into the Word Processor history? Next to each file in My Documents it says WPEntrust Signed Document.

MS Works has nothing to do with Word Perfect! MS Works is related to MS Office. If you are looking for your documents, have you tried launching Works and going to File/Open to see what is there? Perhaps you had a trial version of Word Perfect in your computer, too. If you like the word processor in Works, perhaps you should upgrade to Word 2007 instead -- Word is a much larger, more diversified program than the abbreviated version in Works.

I have Microsoft Works 8 and all of a sudden the Word Processor isn't loading. Everything else is still working. I have unistalled this program and reinstalled it, but still the Word Processor doesn't work. The error message I get is "Microsoft Word Processor wkswp.exe - entry point not found" It also makes a reference that the dynamic link library could not be found. Why is this not working and everything else in Works 8 is running ok?

Any help on this would be great.

I have created some flyers in open office on an older computer than let me go to a font size of 96. Now using Works 7.0 word processor I find it only goes up to 72. Is there some way to get larger fonts?

Hi

For some reason I can no longer open Microsoft Works Word Processor or any of the files I created using this programme. When I try to do so I get the following error message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item".

I uninstalled the programme and then re-installed it subsequently but still have the same problem. All other programmes in the suite such as Microsoft Calender, Database, Spreadsheet etc. are all opening OK.

If anyone can throw some light on this issue I would be most grateful.

Hi. I'm helping my grandparents with their new laptop and am showing them how to use the Works Word Processor. For some reason, after the first time we send something to print with multiple copies, it will only ever then print 1 copy even when you specify you want more. Okay so here's the issue.
I have an HP Pavillion a813w that had Microsoft Works pre-installed on my computer.

Now, I just did a roll back, totally reformated my computer on April 10th to total factory settings once more, so my computer is relatively unbuggy, or so I thought.
However, when I was sent a document from a friend today via AIM, and I scanned it with my virus scanner, it was clean. It had me say yes, I agree to the EULA, and then as it was loading up, it just seemed to disappear, I couldn't open up the document, and I have tried rebooting, and restoring both and it would do nothing.

I'm wondering if there's a reason for this..

I'm trying to figure this out, first time I've ever had Works do this, before I reformated that is.

I have a Study Guide with questions in Microsoft Works Word Processor and I wanted to fill in the answers in a different font and color. But every time I click the question I want to answer, it automatically changes to the font and color of the question. So I have to type the answers and then highlight it and change the font and color manually. I have a ton of questions to answer and it is getting to be really time consuming to have to go back and change them all manually. Is there a way to set the font and color to be locked and never change even if I click a word or line that has a different font and color?

Word 2007, which I've used for years, didn't come with my new computer, but Works 9 did. In order for recipients who have Word to open word processing documents I create with Works 9, I've been changing the Save As from (*.wps) to (*.doc) on each one, before sending. I've been using Microsoft Works 8.5 Word Processor for a few years on Windows 7 and it works fine. However, I was dismayed to find out that I cannot do a bulk search for text across multiple files. It turns out that Works embeds nulls between each character. So CAT in a file is C(null)A(null)T(null). There is no way with any search program that I know of to search all the .wps files in a folder that have the word "CAT" in them.

I *could* keep two copies of every file (one in .txt format), but my goodness what a pain.

So I'm looking for:

a) A program that will do bulk searches of .wps files. (embedded nulls are tricky, you really can't type them in)
or
b) Another program that is similar to Works (Office is NOT similar to Works, it's a pain in the neck to use).

Any help would be *great* appreciated!

Hi Donalds, welcome to the Seven Forums.

It's years since I have even seen Microsoft Works, I am afraid I am not able to tell you how to search files with those embedded nulls.

However, if I recall it correctly Works can also save using the Rich Text Format (.rtf). If so, you could try if the document content is searchable when saved as .rtf. If so, you would not only solve your issue but also make your documents more interchangeable, as the .rtf files can be shared, opened and edited with almost every modern word processor.

Trying to remember the various features of Microsoft Works word processor, I think I'm not too much wrong by recommending you the Windows 7 native WordPad word processor, to use it instead of Works. WordPad has all features needed for composing, editing and formatting complex documents. It also handles embedded images very nicely.

I am running Microsoft Works XP and have used the Word Processor to create a resume. I have saved the resume to My Documents. I have sent it out as an attachment to e-mail. Those receiving the e-mail say they get an error message that they can not open the program. The receivers usually ask me to resend as a Word Document. As far as I know it was orginally sent as a word document. Does anyone have any idea of what is wrong and how to fix it???

I have Windows XP Pro, SP2 and version 8.0 of Works.

Now when I start up the Works word processor and I use the "Open" function, it always opens in "My Documents". When I use "WordPad" it opens in the last folder used. Is there a way to make the Works word processor act like this? If not, is there a way to change the default opening folder? (Also is there a way to change the default location where a file is saved?)

Also, since this is closely related, I'll ask this: When you use the Open function in the Works wp, you get the "Open" dialog box. At the bottom there is a drop down box called, "Files of type". It always opens with "Works Document (*.wps). If you click the drop down box, one of the options is "All Files (*.*). Is there a way to change it to this?

In general, what you've copied to the clipboard is overwritten the next time that you copy something to the clipboard. There used to be a couple of clipboard managers that Microsoft published - but none that I know of have been re-written for Vista. I am in charge of loading students data into a spreadsheet.
I need to avoid from duplicating the same students into my file.
I have set up a way to find duplicates by entering in their telephone number.
This is accurate when loading students one by one.

Here is my problem:
It would save me days of work if I were able to merge (copy/paste) one
worksheet into the other. Is there a way I could copy/paste one student
or multiple students into my database AND still having it detect duplicates?

One of the basic rules of computing, and I think this applies to everything from super computers to tablets and to all operating systems, is that you cannot have two files in the same 'place' with the same name.
 
If you want these two files as separate files then you are going to have to rename one of them - at its simplest append the date you created it. So, 'data1 May.com', 'data1 June.com' and so on.
 
If you only want one of them, the one with the latest data, then use the 'Save as' command. In your case 'Save as . . . data1.kom' and this will replace the earlier file with the later one.

I've been using microsoft word xp office edition and corel word perfect to write a story. In the past I copy pasted, without incident, individual chapters to a website I belong to. They changed their submission process a bit so I'm not sure if that's the problem but now when I copy paste a chapter to their text box all the punctuations change for example, "He's going home." comes out looking like this, AHe=s going home.A Then I have to go through the entire document and change it all back. I'm at wits end about this, i've asked the administrators at the site and they can't help me.
The document is in RTF format. Please if anyone knows what I can do to stop this from happening, I'd be forever grateful.

Try opening Wordpad and then when you want to copy and paste just copy from either word or wordperfect to wordpad then copy and paste that to the web site and just the opposite if you have to take it from the web site.

I seem to be having an odd issue with copying/pasting links from the WoW forums and have posted in their tech support forums but was wondering what you guys thought about it.

If I copy links from threads on the official WoW forums and paste them into my address bar they look fine but when I hit enter I get 404'd. I tried pasting one of the links into an MSN window/notepad and saw a hidden character pop up as a box randomly in the link.

edit: I've had friends try to visit the links in my thread and they were unable to but the links in the 2nd thread worked fine for them.

edit2: After looking at it some more it seems like the hidden characters are being put in by my PC when I'm copying something from the WoW forums.

I have some old files transferred from a previous computer that say they are "Microsoft Works Word Processor" files. I have a version of Works on my current machine, but its word processor element appears to be Word. Word does not like these files. I am pretty sure that I have tried to OpenOffice them as well.

Any ideas of a free prog that will read these or, even better, convert them to a more standard format?

I am having a problem with my copy and paste function. When I paste something that I have copied elsewhere (no matter the location of pasting) I end up having to delete a duplicate paste in the same field. Can anyone solve this problem. I have looked online and cant seem to find a solution besides formatting my computer and re-installing a windows OS!

I'm trying to rule out a hardware cause like sticky keys.
In fact you could check the sticky keys setting in control panel.

This problem has occured about two weeks ago and I thought that it would just fix itself, but it didn't

The problem is when I try to recycle, move, copy/paste, any thing that is related to doing that, you get this window



* don't be confused by the look of the screen shot, its Windows Vista is disguise

Anyway, this window will stay there and it won't automatically close like it would normally, instead it would stay like that and the progress bar won't move at all, even though that item has already been moved.

i have windows vista 64 ultimate. i am using microsoft works 8. however, if i try to copy (or cut) and paste more than a couple sentences it tells me something about exceeding the size limit for pasting. it only does this when i use microsoft word 8. i have no problems pasting anywhere else such as on here or in email. any ideas what i can do?

Here by way of example is a typical link to the type of web page from which I sometime wish to wholly or inpart to copy and paste into another document, or print to PDF.

What ever I do the calling points and the times get separated, so that the times appear below the calling points and not to their right. With such pages is an extended version (all stops), where some info has to be scrolled to to view and copy. There, even though all needed is high-lighted, only that which was first visible gets pasted or printed.

Can anybody explain why, and sugest a solution to the times' mispositioning, please? What might I be doing wrong?

Thanks for reading my post. I have copy and pasted multiple pages of nba basketball statistics from an online source to Excel. I want to run some functions on the stats in order to rate players, sort the data, etc. I run into a problem b/c there are either one or two hidden quotation marks for each cell. So when I run a function I get #Value! as a response. I've used the 'left' command and that takes care of the quotes, but say I want to take the average of a set of numbers I get 0 as an answer. I have an annoying issue with Excel 2010

Have the following fields in Excel.
Week Num / Heads / Hours Worked / Total Hours Worked / 8 Hrs Worked Friday / 8 Hrs Worked Saturday

Worked Friday & Worked Saturday are checkboxes
I have first 3 rows manually configured to link checkbox to the cell its in.

Copy and pasting these checkboxes to the rest of the cells.
All checkboxes are still linked to the original cell. I removed the $ symbol in checkbox properties.
When I check Box at row 1, rows 1,4,7,11 ect.. get checked.

I'm wondering if anyone knows a faster way to update these checkboxes.
Or am I forced to update each checkbox manually.

I found very little about checkboxes in Excel on Google Search.

Thanks in advance to any of you, who might try to help me with this subject.

Do any of you know if Lock N' Stop, Nod32 or any other computer security programs that allow you to copy & paste the filenames or "file paths", which set off the alert-system in any given program like Comodo when you're installing or operating a program?

I asked that because I find it very difficult to save the LONG filenames or paths that show up in each alert-box ("pop-up alert-messages") at the bottom corners of my screen when I'm installing or launching a new program.

I like to save all of the names of the files that set-off my alert-system, but Comodo Firewall doesn't allow me to simply copy & paste filenames like WinPatrol does.

Good Thursday Evening Forum Members, I am totally new here, so, if I make some mistakes please forgive me. Here is my problem: I am using Xara Web Designer Premium 7 to develop a real estate website for my dear wife. I am running an ASUS CM 5671 computer and Windows 7 Home Premium (64 Bits).

On one of my website pages I want to place a free "mortgage loan calculator widget offered on many mortgage & real estate websites. When I attempt to copy the code for the widget, it does not work even thought the window opens up that shows "copy". Other instances of the "copy/paste" process where I copy text from a webpage or technical artical is not a problem. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I have been coping and pasting stuff for a few years now and wondered why what I am doing does not work now. Thank you all for any assistance you feel kind enough to offer me.

A:Problems with Copy & Pasting Real Estate Widgets on various websites

Hello again forum team members, I noticed that "Microsoft Word (2007)" has a "clipboard". I thought that Windows 7 Home Premium did not offer a "clipboard" as such. With this find, I've tried to copy and then paste the "widget" code onto the Microsoft Word's clipboard. I then copy the code from there and paste it onto my webpage. However, all I see is the actual text of the code and not the real estate "widget". Yes, it's a little frustrating, but I've got to move forward because this is an important element that needs to be added to my website.

So, to make a long story short, when I copy the code of the widget from the real estate website, I must then paste it onto the Microsoft Word's "clipboard". I then copy if from the clipboard to paste the code on my webpage. However, only the code text shows and not the image of the widget. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for all assistance. Bob

I am on xp on my home computer and have server 2k3 on a vps.

It worked fine before to copy and paste files to and from the desktop/s but I had to wipe my hard drive + reinstall xp on my home comp and now when I try copy/paste it is just greyed out.

I have ensured the option of clipboard is ticked as well as all the drives being selected in the remote connect options.

I have googled it and these are the only pieces of advice I've seen on offer so far.

I can still access the drives in my vps but I have to navigate through the whole trees each time to get to the file which is a real nuisance.

I wanna C+P between desktops like I could before...

Ideas?

On the remote computer can you try stopping the Remote Desktop copy and paste program and then starting it again.

In task Manager on the remote computer locate rdpclip.exe and kill it (right click on it and End Task). Then Start>Run and type rdpclip.exe and hit Enter which will restart it.

Sometimes when I paste copy from a web site into a Word doc, I get a weird-looking font - a light gray and underlined - nothing like the original copy. Sometimes it pastes fine. How do I stop this from happening?

I can't copy/cut and paste in Word 2003. When I right-click, all the buttons are grayed-out. Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V don't work, either. The clipboard instructions say something about a highlight tool, but I can't find that. I have tried SafeMode, and that doesn't help. I haven't found any viruses or malware. I can't copy/cut and paste in Notepad, either, if that suggests something to someone. Any ideas?

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DELETE THE POST, BUT I SOLVED MY PROBLEM.
