[SOLVED] Synaptics touchpad - Cant turn off

Q: [SOLVED] Synaptics touchpad - Cant turn off

Yesterday I installed vista on my laptop which previous ran XP.
In XP I had an icon in my tool bar, as well as an icon in the control panel where I could disable my touchpad. However since moving Vista, it no longer shows up, so I cant turn the damn thing off. Ive been into system devices, and all that shows up is the mouse, it doesnt even recognise I have a touchpad device, nor does it show up in the bios before loading windows, so I cant disable it. anywhere.
How can I turn this damn thing off? I hate it. Ive tried downloading the drivers for it to see if that brings it up, but after installing them there was no change.
Any ideas?

Hi,
I'm using a Synaptics Touchpad on my Acer V3-551 and when I follow the steps to turn off double tapping (go to the device settings in mouse and click settings and find tapping and disable) I can't seem to find the tapping option. The only options are Overview and Buttons. I have updated my driver to make sure it is fully up to date. This computer was once windows 8 but is now windows 7. Is there an option I need to turn off in order to see it? (full model is V3-551-8469)
Thanks!

I'm on a Compaq Presario CQ50 laptop with Windows XP, and the other day when I hard-shutdown the computer and restarted, it booted up with a loud, long beep until I forced it to shut down again. When I restarted, the touchpad no longer functioned, and I've been using a USB mouse since. Also, occasionally the keyboard doesn't function after coming back from hibernating, though a restart fixes this.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Synaptics driver, but although the driver appears to have been installed (the Program Files are present, as is the Add/Remove entry), the Synaptics TouchPad is not listed under Device Manager nor is it listed under Device Settings in the Mouse properties under Control Panel. Why isn't the driver fully reinstalling back again?

I've read on other similar problems to try checking to see if power is being sent to these devices under the BIOS, but apparently Compaqs are notorious for being difficult to get into the BIOS, so I haven't had luck doing that yet. System restore to a day prior to the event didn't help. No function keys disable the touchpad, and the touchpad light is white, not red (meaning it's "on"). I'm still under warranty, but if I can fix this without having to wait for it to ship back and forth, that'd be much more preferable.

Any advice at all would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Hi. I'm having a problem with my HP Pavilion dv6000's touchpad. Recently (i.e. Today) it has been giving me an error and shutting down a program called "Synaptics Touchpad Enhancements", which has the adverse effects of slowing down the touchpad's sensitivity, and making the scroll bar on the side of the pad useless. Restarting solves this problem, but it occurs again after perhaps thirty minutes or so. I've already tried redownloading the drivers for it, but it hasn't solved the problem. In addition, upon selecting the mouse via the Control Panel, I'm confronted with this error. This problem has me stumped. Can anyone shed some light on what I could do to solve this?

Hi,The issue you have mentioned and the error you attached clearly state that there is an issue with the Synaptics Touchpad drivers on the system. To resolve the issue, I suggest you uninstall the Synaptics Touchpad drivers completely from the system through Control Panel, Add/Remote programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Win Vista). After complete uninstallation, please restart the system. Download the latest drivers from the following weblink and then install the software. This will definitely resolve the issue.http://www.synaptics.com/support/driversHope this information helps.Regards,Vidya

So I am at the end of my rope with my laptop's touchpad. I can not disable the tap-to-click option, and because of this I am CONSTANTLY clicking on things every time I type or do anything.

Also, the scroll does not work.

I have searched through all of the mouse options and there is not one single option anywhere for tapping or scrolling.

I have updated the driver. I have uninstalled the driver and tried installing an older version of the driver. I can't find anything that will give me these options, no matter which drivers I install.

I am using Windows XP, on a Dell Inspiron 6000. According to the hardware tab, I am using a Synaptics PS/2 Pointing Device.

Please, please, PLEASE help! Please!

You don't elaborate what your problem is ? is it working at all or is acting strange ?
Have you checked the BIOS to see if it's disabled ?
Otherwise, you may just have a bad piece of hardware there, take it to a shop and have them open it up and check.

Hello,

Recently my Synaptics TouchPad suddenly stopped working on my Compaq M2000 laptop; I fixed the problem by re-installing the Synaptics driver. When I restarted the computer, the TouchPad was working fine, but the keyboard was not working at all, so now I cannot type in my password to log onto the computer.

Is there any way to solve this problem without having to format the computer?

A:Synaptics TouchPad

dont format. use a different comp, download (savepe) its a recovery program. you can run chkdsk from there. it will load its own drivers. savepe is a live xp cd.

I would like to mention that upgrading to Windows 10 on 2 HP laptops. On the one that is older which had the synaptics driver 15.3.29.0 the tapping worked fine, on the newer unit the driver was current with version 19. something. With attempting to adjust the synaptics using the up to date driver there was real no satisfaction. I deleted it and installed the 15.3.29.0 driver and it works great..

Hope this helps someone...

Hello,
My problem is that after switching off the touchpad mouse some time ago, now I cannot switsh it on. Usually I use a normal mouse, as it is more convienient. But when I am out of home I surely would like to use the touchpad one.
When I try to habilitate it in the contral panel, it works for several seconds only. I tryed it with and without the normal mouse - no differrence.
My computor is Acer Aspire 5610, Windows XP. Never had viruses.
I have tried to download a new driver from the link I have found in this post:
http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/showthread.php?t=43310
and put it on the existing one - no result.
Maybe I should delete the old version driver and then put the new one?

my synaptics touchpad has a mind of its own
Hello this is my first posting to your Windows seven forum. I am writing to you today because over the past two to three weeks my Synaptics touchpad mouse has had a mind of its own. It has been clicking and opening files without me pressing the mouse buttons or tapping the touchpad, scrolling by itself, highlighting and moving the files on my desktop and in my computer, etc. I have tried everything from physically cleaning the Touchpad thoroughly, updating the Synaptics driver time and time again only to find no resolution to this issue, I have also uninstalled and reinstalled previous versions of the synaptics drivers that worked before with my laptop only to be confronted with this same problem. I have ran scans on both Uni-blue registry booster and PC Tools Spyware Doctor (which I use as my registry and anti-virus/spyware programs) and of which I update on a daily/weekly basis and yet I have found no traces of what may be causing my mouse to act so crazy. I have also ran the system scan in the command prompt which was suggested earlier in this thread only to find out that everything was running properly and at 100% integrity.

Hello,

I just got an Acer Windows 8 PC, and none of the touchpad gestures seem to be working. I have tried using several recommended third-party tools and all of them said that I didn't have the correct drivers, even after I installed all of them.

I have gone to mouse --> Synaptics --> Settings, and the only options there are to enable/disable the buttons.

Is there any way to enable multi-touch?

Thanks,

Hello Everyone, I do not usually use forums and other kinds of helps, but guys, this is hilarious.Or... it would be hilarious if happened to another person, yeah. basic data --Probook 455 G2Windows 8.1 64-bit(McAfee IS) So, my Synaptics touchpad started behaving in an odd way yesterday. That is: it works fine at startup, but the tapping surface stops reacting after a few seconds - sometimes after a few minutes. What remains is even more strange: the two buttons remain operational, and the bottom approx. 10% of the surface reacts to right and left movements, while the upper 90% zooms in and out whatever is on the screen... WHOA? And sometimes it goes back working for no obvious reasons. Before stopping again.Next: If I close the lid and open after a few sec, the wake-up process starts and the touchpad works fine until... go to 10.And it is not over: the tapping surface works fine IF I KEEP ONE OR BOTH BUTTONS PRESSED. ?? :-) naturally this is not a "solution" as all side effects of a pressed mouse button occur. But the pointer moves, yeah. Umm. [UPDATE: this later phenomenon was a seemingly software-related sticky Ctrl issue that stopped occurring] What I did this far:1. Hello, this is a strange problem I am having...
I used to have xp on my amilo laptop, with synaptics driver 7.10.10, May 2004 driver. The nice thing about this was that the touchpad was disabled when an external mouse was plugged in, just by ticking the proper box in the driver setting panel (disable touchpad when external ... ). Easy and working fine: also, the touchpad was reenabled automatically removing the external mouse.
Now I switched to win7, and I lost this capability. Fujitsu site does not have an updated driver, and recommends to use the manufacturer drivers. Fine, but...
1) the latest version for Win 7/Vista 32 bit is 14.0.3.C, it works OK but there is no trace of that box (disable touchpad when external...): you can only disable the touchpad, and reenable manually.
2) in desperation, I took the old driver used in xp, run the setup in compatibility mode, and it installed (barring the usual complaints about incompatibility); again, it works fine, but no trace of that capability.

Is something in win7 preventing this feature from working? Or is some mix of amilo hardware and win7 causing the problem?
Thanks for any suggestion

it maybe one of the functions keys - on Toshiba and HP I know the function Key F9 or F11 with FN key
so you hold the FN key down (on toshiba a drop down menu appears at the top of the screen ) and then press f9 or f11 or any key that has a symbol that may look correct
that will toggle between enable and disable the touch pad

Hi, Try the following. First of all, download the Chipset driver on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp59647.exe When done, open Device Manager, right click the Synaptics device and select Uninstall. When this has completed, open your Downloads folder, right click the chipset installaer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook and then disconnect any peripherals ( ie usb mouse etc ). Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Let windows fully load and see if you have basic touchpad functionality - if you do, download and install the Synaptics driver below. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp61501-62000/sp61882.exe When this installation has completed, restart the notebook again. Regards, DP-K

Hi, You could try the following. Hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Mice and other pointing devices.  Right click the Synaptics device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. Let windows fully load and see if you have basic touchpad functionality - if you do, download and install the Synaptics driver below. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58501-59000/sp58572.exe When this installation has completed, restart the notebook again. Regards, DP-K

Hi all,

I tried to install a wireless mouse for my laptop, which I could't get to work(!). No problem, except that when I returned to using my normal Synaptics Touchpad it had lost it's Virtual Scrolling capability. Also, its touch-sensitive areas no longer work.

Furthermore, Synaptics Touchpad seems to have (semi-)disappeared from my computer ("semi" in the sense that the touchpad itself still performs basic functions like moving and highlighting.)

Also, I can no longer find Synaptics in my tray.

I can't find the Touchpad anywhere in Control Panel to get at the settings.

IIRC, there used to be a Synaptics properties window somewhere that allowed you adjust all this stuff - again, I can't seem to find this anywhere.

(My computer: Dell Inspiron 5100, Windows XP, no other problems with computer.)

Many thanks for any help you can offer.

OK here is the problem,
I was using the touch-pad as always and it was working just fine all morning
than I put my system in standby when i returned my touch-pad was not responding. When I checked the driver properties under device status it read:
device could not start (code 10).
I rolled the driver back and nothing then I tried to uninstall/reinstall the driver from a download I got from the gateway website still nothing finally I tried a simple system restore (not a complete restore w/disk just restored back to sometime yesterday) still nothing even though it was working fine in the time frame i had restored back too.

Just Installed (clean install) Windows 7 64 bit on my laptop today, what a pain, tried an update first on my 32 bit but had problems so I decided to go ahead with installin 64 bit as my computer was compatible.

Anyway, got it installed and I'm re-installing my software.

Main problem is I can't seem to get a driver for my touchpad on my laptop which is a Fujitsu Siemens just over a year old. Fujitsu do not have 64 bit drivers but I got one from Synaptics.com which is supposed to be compatible and signed but when I try to run it I get the error message that it is not a Win32 app.

Anyone got an answer for me.

Does anybody have a tip where I can find free Synaptics Touchpad Drive downloads. I have 7.0 and overnight it froze on me.

I have only recently bought my laptop and it came with Vista which I have been hating and now this latest problem occured.

Thanks.

A:Synaptics Touchpad drive

Hi Zsofia,

Uninstall the driver and then go to windows update. It will detect your touchpad and install the correct driver software. You should be able to use your touchpad even without the synaptics driver as Vista has native drivers for your touchpad.

Good Luck!

My computer is a Toshiba Satellite L305 and has a Synaptics TouchPad. I use Windows Vista.

For a few weeks I had been getting messages saying "Synaptics TouchPad has stopped working, click here to solve the problem" or something similar. I didn't think anything of it because the mouse was working fine, so I just hit the "X". I'm not even sure that is a part of the problem even because it has stopped coming up.

Lately the mouse will work fine and after being on the computer for about an hour or so, the mouse will slowly stop working. I can still click and when I tap the touchpad, that will still click. I just won't be able to move the mouse. Restarting the computer does not fix it. Usually I just plug in a mouse and use it for 20-30 minutes and by then the mouse is working fine again.

Any suggestions?

Dear Support Team, For a couple of days, the mouse on my HP EliteBook behaves erratically. It starts right away at the start of Windows when the log-in screen with the different profiles appears. I can neither click on any profile nor on the shut-down button. However, I can select a profile via the arrow-keys and the Enter button of my keyboard. Once Windows has loaded, the mouse acts normally. However, after a couple of minutes (or sometimes hours), the mouse starts to behave erratically again. Either the left-click is activated repeatedly, also turning the pointer into scroll mode, or neither left-click nor right-click are reacting at all. Funnily, I discovered how to "unfreeze" the mouse in the latter case: I simply need to start the Windows Task Manager via Ctrl+Alt+Del and the arrow-keys. Once the Task Manager is open, the mouse works normally again. This does not apply to the former phenomenon, though, when the left-click is activated repeatedly. I have consulted many forum entries and tried many remedies. My BIOS is up to date and I also updated the mouse driver via the Device Manager. This last attempt even made things worse. Since Windows installed the driver Synaptics TouchPad V7.0 (Synaptics Pointing Device - v15.0.24 03Jun10), I cannot use the "Tap and Drag" function by holding the second click on the touchpad any more, even though the option is activated in the aforementioned TouchPad V7.0 settings. This applies to all times, even when the mou... Read more

I did a clean install of win7 (yeah for me!) on my acer aspire 5336-2524. I also downloaded the device driver for Synaptics PS/2 Port Compatible TouchPad, unzipped it, and I think I installed it? I did an auto search for the best driver and result was the best driver was installed.

My problem is this, there used to a function within Personalize > Change Mouse Pointers > then touch pad. Here is where I could stop the function of the scroll bar along the right side of the touch pad and make scroll work with two fingers.

I don't know if that function was part of acer or Synaptics PS/2 Port Compatible TouchPad. But I want it back!

also there is nothing of the original factory install because when I made all the restore and back up it was crap, I found out after I needed it.

The first is the Synaptics TouchPad (mouse on the laptop) that does not work. With no drivers for Windows 7 went down this Toshiba model for Windows Vista but no luck, not down from the Synaptics website.

The other thing is that it does not work the FN key on the keyboard. Bah, the key work for me because a light comes on, but does nothing when combined with the above functions (eg mute, increase or decrease brightness, etc.).

I will appreciate if someone could guide me to solve these two problems.

Touchpad just stopped working while I was using it. Here's what's going on:

Fn + F7 does nothing
Synaptics ps/2 Port Touchpad shows in Device manager, however it is hidden and has a yellow exclamation point. Error code: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24).

I have updated the drivers from the Gateway website by first uninstalling the drivers that were present. No go. I then updated the drivers from the synaptics website via the same method, nothing. I've tried searching for a driver via device manager....nothing.

As I mentioned, I tried Fn+F7 and nothing happened. Also I notice that the driver software is not loading in the tray like it used to and I can't even make it run by trying to open the .exe file.

Any ideas? I've been searching for an answer for this for a while with no luck.

Hi There,

I have a synaptics touchpad driver installed on my laptop it is listed in my mouse options under devices settings as "Synaptics Pointing Device - v25.0.4" and under devices in the same tab the name is listed as "Synaptics touchpad v7.2".

The problem I am having is that in the devices settings tab I have checked the box that says "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing devices is attached" because frequently the mouse cursor will jump around the screen when typing and mess up what I am doing. Problem is that when I want to use the touchpad and unplug the mouse, the touchpad will work fine until I shut down the computer. On startup (whether clean boot or restoring from standby) the touchpad will no longer work (with or without a mouse connected). When this happens I have tried a fresh reboot of the laptop, but the problem remains. I have tried reconnecting my mouse before shutting down or closing the lid of my laptop but the problem persists. Some times when using the touchpad the power cord on my laptop unplugs and when I plug it back in the touchpad no longer works, yet when I unplug the cord it will work again. I don't get any error messages when any of these things happen, they just happen without warning.
When I go into my mouse settings and go to the device settings tab, the devices list is now empty and all other options are greyed out, including the check box to disable the touchpad when a mouse is connec... Read more

That's a fairly common issue and my wife and daughter solved it by getting Toshiba Notebooks that have a switch between the touchpad and the keyboard to turn the touchpad off, both use a external mouse. The problem stems from the sensitivity of the touchpad and where a person's thumbs want to rest while typing. Adding to the problem is the type of touchpad that has the vertical and horizontal scroll areas.

I'd go into Device Manager and uninstall both instances for the touchpad and reboot, should install the drivers again, handy when an installation gets corrupted.

There have been many answers to this question before, but none of them works for me.  (Maybe the Anniversary Update for W10 messed that up as well as everything else.)  I can disable the touchpad through Control Panel, but it is enabled the next time I reboot.  I have edited the registry to change that behavior, but it doesn't make any difference.  I looked at the latest drivers from Synaptics, but those installed on my computer are newer (than those on the Synaptics website - odd).  The touchpad is a complete and total poc.  I have a wireless mouse attached, and with the touchpad enabled and the computer closed (I have an external monitor) the cursor dances a wild fandango across my screen, opening applications, selecting text, and so on.  Not acceptable. What I would really like to do is "disable touchpad when a mouse is connected" but that option apparently disappeared with W7.  Can anyone give me a recommendation for how to solve this problem? Thanks.John

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y510P with Windows 8.1. For months or longer, I have been having an issue with the touchpad software. After days of use it will stop responding to advanced commands like two finger scrolling unless I restart the computer. If I try to access the icon in the right corner on the taskbar, the application will not open. It cannot be right clicked. If I try too much the taskbar freezes. I tried to access Mouse in control pad - no response, I couldn't access it. I tried to look for updates for the driver and it would always say it is totally updated or when I manually download one it would say that it is already installed or something.

So today I decided I would fix this problem. I uninstalled the application, and removed the driver in the Drivers section in control panel. I downloaded the program again from the Synaptics site for my computer and tried to install.

The message: "A previous version of the Synaptics TouchPad Driver is installed. If you continue installation, the driver may not install properly. To avoid this problem, press 'No' to exit setup...

I never pressed no the multiple times I tried to install and install would always fail after about 15 seconds. I then looked for traces of Synaptics on my computer in Program Files and Driver folder. Deleted all Synaptics folders and emptied recycling bin.

Problem still persists. Need help. I rebooted my computer a couple times along the way, but not after I deleted those folder... Read more

This is now the third forum I have posted to regarding this issue.I've been to Sevenforums and to the HP forums.I don't know how/when this happened (because I rarely restart my pc) but,I recently had to restart after some updates and after restarts now it seems that I have to physically load the Synaptics touchpad driver in order for things like (in particular) two finger scrolling) to work.

I uninstalled the Synaptics driver (because Synaptics site has a newer version.HP,so far, isn't supporting the new one). I was instructed to restart the pc after uninstalling the old driver and before installing the new one. That's when the problems started. After booting to the Windows login screen, the keyboard became disabled and I was unable to use the pc.

I've done a system restore and all is back to normal. But,I'm still left with the original problem (having to physically load the Synaptics software because it's not loading itself). Okay, on my laptop, the process SynTPEnh.exe governs the touchpad. For some reason, after my laptop has been on for a while, the process quits. If i restart the process, it usually closes again within 15 seconds of the process being restarted. Does anybody have any insight about what causes this and how it can be stopped?

Also, after i restart the computer, SynTPEnh.exe stays on for a while and the cycle i described previously continues.

In terms of Itunes I also dual boot and keep the music files on one partition (win 7) but as long as you point itunes to where they are stored, it should be a problem. the problem comes when you want to sync the updates (adds/deletes) on both partitions.

I mean, I don't want the pointer to grab onto objects and open links or do anything unless I click on that object. I don't like all these new features and don't know how to stop the pointer from opening links. It also opens and closes apps. I went into the mouse properties and disabled all the features but the mouse still has a mind of its own. Is there any alternatives? I don't want to only use an external mouse as I often use the laptop sitting on a couch and a mouse is not convenient.

Hi, I have a HP WIN8/M6-1125DX. I recently uninstalled the Synaptics TouchPad on accident and have been unable to figure out how to get it back. I tried using a system restore point but it repeatedly says that there is an error in the restore.  Can I reinstall the touchpad software or find it on my computer somehow? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Hi! New to the forum...I just upgraded my windows 7 original install on my Toshiba Laptop (3 years old) to the Windows 10 Home Preview Build (10130 was installed). Everything appears to be working EXCEPT my touchpad will not scroll.
It is a Synaptics V7.5 on PS-2 port.
I went to the Synaptics website and don't see a windows 10 driver for this...How can i get the scrolling to work on the touchpad (everything else seems to be working on the pad)...
Thanks in advance for all help

The included drivers are basic drivers. You will probably have to wait for Synaptics to release their full drivers.

Fixed! See Below Post
Laptop: Sony VGN-SR190E
OS: Windows 7 (64 Bit) (upgrade from Vista)
Problem: Synaptics Pointing Device (driver) - Gone

My touchpad is way too sensitive and driving me crazy. In Vista, there was a Synaptics Pointing Device utility that would enable adjustments to the touchpad.

In the Sony drivers section (Windows 7, 64 bit) for my laptop the Synaptics driver is no longer there. The Sony Forum is giving me no help/reply to this question.

Anyone here have any ideas of where I could get a suitable driver or another method of adjusting the touchpad?

I Appreciate any help,

Phil

I have a HP Pavilion DM4-3099se Laptop with a Intel Core i5 dual core processer and 6GB of RAM. On this laptop is a Synaptics touchpad and uptill now it was working fine. It recently started glitching and now when i move my finger on the touchpad, the mouse moves but it repeatedly stops and then starts moving and then moves in all different directions. I went to the Synaptics website and installed the latest drivers for the touchpad and the installation was successful but the trackpad was still the same way. My external wired mouse works fine right now though. I tried restoring my system the earliest point there was on the list and still no improvement on the touchpad. Please help. Thank you.

A:SYNAPTICS TOUCHPAD NOT WORKING PROPERLY!

Thanks everyone for reading but I already fixed the problem. My computer shipped with two Operating Systems, one being windows 7 and the other being HP QuickWeb. I just booted into HP Quickweb and my trackpad was working fine and then i booted back into windows and it worked perfectly after that. I just though i would let you know and can somebody please close this topic because i dont know how to. thanks.

I cannot believe how bad this touchpad is. I've had two customer support reps take over my computer and the problem still isn't fixed. The problem: The tap function is extremely erratic. Sometimes it takes one tap. Sometimes two. Sometimes 5 to execute the simple function of closing a tab on a browser, or electing a utility in a software app, or clicking on a link and opening it. etc. etc. Then, sometimes I tap and the cursor lurches....  This is my 3rd HP computer, but this is unacceptable. Fix it Hewlett Packard. Signed, A very unhappy customer

Three weeks or so ago I posted here, asking for help on how to disable my touch pad on a Lenovo laptop. I disabled all the gestures, unchecked the 'lock on' feature, etc. and for a short while thought the issue was resolved. It is not. Here is my original thread:
http://www.sevenforums.com/search.php?searchid=6664971
It was closed but I am still having problems. When I drag the pointer across objects, it activates them, opens pages, that sort of thing. If I accidentally leave the pointer on the 'previous page' button, it automatically does goes back. It is driving me crazy. I've disabled everything (except disabling the touch pad entirely) and it's still plaguing me.

Short of a virus (I've scanned a few times with AVG and MalwareBytes and found nothing), the only thing I can think is perhaps in disabling the various features, I accidentally hit upon a sequence or combination that keeps somehow didn't disable those features I don't want.

Any suggestions?

Am using windows 8 pro with the synaptics drivers on my sony vaio, but they are taking ages to load in whenever I reboot/startup my laptop.

I was wandering if there are any tweaks I can do to make it load into my system tray quicker. I dont have many things loading at startup so I cant see what the problem is.

I would like it to load in first rather than last.

Thanks.

I have v18.x.x.x and it allows me to disable the touchpad when a mouse dongle is plugged in. But, if you look on HP or Synaptics, the v17 is the download as of 1/16/16. Where can we get the "REAL" drivers from? The synaptics site is very vague about what is in the zip file. They have a new CEO - maybe he will help get things worked out. Meanwhile, I'm looking for the v18 drivers and see that you have v19? Where are these drivers available?

The touchpad on my HP G62 laptop was less responsive than normal. I tried changing the properties with no improvement. So I went to HP help and noticed that there was a driver update for this device. So I ran the update. Then the touchpad barely worked at all and a notice box said the driver was incompatible with current system. The advice on the web included more than one remark advising to not bother with the Synaptics website as it is unreliable. I did it anyway. Synaptics recognised I had a legal copy of Windows 7 Home and I downloaded the suggested driver. Which actually was a new version entirely. Now the pad is back to life just like old times. The HP update was outdated. Every time I have used any HP updates I run into problems. I suggest HP users forget all about the "Support Assistant" and seek more credible update sources. Thnx, gnuguy.

My old Dell Laptop Inspiron N5110 has ALPS touchpad and my experience was so poor that I'll never buy another laptop having ALPS touchpad EVER. Synaptics touchpad seems reasonable at most times. Except touchpad, Dell laptop served me well in past 4 years.
So I'm interested in buying new dell inspiron 5558 (Dell 5000 Series) with i5 (5200u), 1 TB HDD and 8 GB RAM.
I just wanted to make sure that do all Inspiron 5558 laptops have Synaptics touchpads? (precision touchpad or not, it doesn't matter to me much, though it'll be real nice to have.)
I tried searching dell community forums but couldn't find answer to my this question.

I am trying to change the setting so that I can use my left hand as the primary hand. As soon as I click that option, my Ws 7 computer locks up. Everything is useless- including Task Manager. I can activate it, but it does not respond to commands.

As best I can determine, only trying to change the "hand" locks up the computer.

Hi everyone

I intended to post this one in Tablets & Touch section at first, but since this issue only occurs while using IE 11 -- I thought this may be due to some conflicts or settings change in IE 11 that is causing the issue.
I am using latest WIN 8.1.1 64-bit OS. Just bought this lap 2 months back. I had updated all the drivers, softwares and security patches from manufacturer's site & MS Windows too.
This problem is there right from the beginning. I had also updated my BIOS to the latest given in the HP product site. No drivers or softwares other than those given in product site are installed.
The issue is whenever I start using IE (I have IE11), the touchpad scrolling function freeze for sometime then again revert to normal and it goes on & on while browsing though different webpages irrespective of which one I open. When it start suddenly the touchpad cursor stuck up n immediately gets control of cursor but scroll function still remains inactive. I have not seen this issue otherwise while doing normal windows operations when IE is closed. But issue remains on other operations specifically scrolling through Windows modern apps while IE is open. I may not be able to reproduce this issue at a time specified by you, it just comes & goes intermittently.
I had done troubleshooting for touchpad, and everything went normal. I had looked for any driver issues but could not see any in the device manager. Had unistalled & reinstalled latest version of Synapt... Read more

Hello,

I recently bought a Lenovo Y700 running W10. I am trying to get it set up the way I like and cannot find an option to use one-finger scrolling with my touchpad (two-finger scrolling is an option and works just fine).

I am updated to driver 19.0.19.1, but for some reason when I go to Mouse Properties it lists the driver version as 19.0.17.26. I'm not sure if this is related. Here are some screen caps of the driver discrepancy as well as the UI for the mouse, which has no option for one-finger scrolling. How do I enable this?

Thanks for any advice you can give me!

No option to disable your Synaptics Touchpad when you plugin a USB mouse? The function is there but is disabled in the registry. Click the link and scroll down to message #9. Make the change, reboot and the auto disable works immediately if you have a USB mouse plugged in. Making the change in HKLM didn't work for me but HKCU did the trick. Navigate to the Synaptics settings page and the option to disable is now there. No credit due here, just passing it on to help others.

Hi there,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300D that came with Vista, but recently my hard drive died and I installed Windows 7 64bit with the new one. My problem is that the Synaptics touchpad lost its scroll function, and Toshiba doesn't provide the drivers for Win7, only for XP and Vista (and those don't work, I've tried it).

What can I do to make it work again? Thanks!
