Hello -

An end user wants to quickly gather the mail addresses of every retailer on this site:

http://www.hydrofarm.com/wheretobuy.php

I found a nice free email extractor application:

http://emailextractorpro.com/

However, since there are no actual links to the retailers (all within the same .php page), the extractor cannot find them. Anyone have any ideas on an easy solution to this? It'll be a huge pain to go through and get them all manually. I tried finding the full web address to each state within the source, but with no luck. If I had that I could at least just have the extractor run on each state, which would still save a lot of time.

Thanks!

I run a software tool that often generates 75,000 - 100,000 small files that need to be deleted after the software exits. Right now, it can take 8 - 10 minutes to permanently delete all these files from a single run, and I usually have 4 - 8 runs to deal with, so do the math...

I have tried shift-del to permanently delete but it doesn't work - Windows still copies everything to the recycle bin. (I thought shift-del was supposed to bypass the recycle bin...)

Also, while moving the files to the recycle bin, I often get an error message: "Error 0x80070050: The file exists."

Bottom line is that it takes a *really* long time just to delete these files and I need a quicker way to do it.

What's the solution?

Thanks in advance,

rgames

I will shortly need to move a large number (20,000) very large (20-30Mb) image files and associated tiny xmp sidecar files from one hard drive to another.

MS file explorer will make a meal of this so any suggestions for alternatives please? I have several folders each containing many thousands of files as above so moving a folder en-bloc is an option rather than file by file?

A:moving large number of large files to new drive

Simply drag and drop the folder(s).

Might want to do a copy first, verify that everything did indeed get copied, and then delete the originals.

I need some help in C++. Hope someone could give some help..

How could I change base of a very large number? For example I want to change the number 7146329081 into base 32768. I did this by hand and the answer is 6 21480 21497. I could do the last part (21497) but the rest I got stuck.

Here is the function that I have so far..

#include <vector>
#include <cmath>
#include <iostream>

const int BASE = 32768;
void normalization(const vector<int> &vec)
{
int carry = 0, digit = vec[0], x = 0, totalcarry = 0;
vector<int> temp;
while ( x < vec.size() )
{
digit *= 10; totalcarry *=10;
x++;
digit += vec[x];
if ( digit > BASE )
{
carry = floor ( (digit+0.0) / BASE );
digit = digit - carry * BASE;
totalcarry += carry;
if (totalcarry > base) // Stuck in here!
temp.push_back(digit);

}
}
cout << "Inside Carry : " << totalcarry << endl;
}

if u want to test it..put this in main :
vector <int> t;
t.push_back(7); t.push_back(1); t.push_back(4); t.push_back(6);
t.push_back(3); t.push_back(2); t.push_back(9); t.push_back(0);
t.push_back(8); t.push_back(1);

normalization(t);

Any help would greatly be appreciated...I spent alot of time already on this and getting frustrated...

Thanks

I think my computer has a rootkit, and a fake/altered version of google chrome on it,  along with possibly alered system files which ensure ease of access to it.

Any help would be appreciated. I have already run a FRST scan, but have yet to do anything related to fixing the problems as I am more than certain I would end up breaking something. That's what happened on a laptop I attempted to remove a Zeusbot from.

HD wipe and OS reinstall fixed that particular problem, but doing that with this PC is not something I am all that keen on at the moment.

I have attached the two log files to this post. Hoping to hear back soon.

Here is the situation.
We work a lot with IP Cameras (or sometimes called network cameras). Most of these IP cams have the capability to send jpg images to an ftp server when motion is detected.
The jpg image is about 40 to 50k in size and are stored in a folder named for the current date, so each day a new folder is created at midnight and all of the images for that 24 hour period are stored there.
Anyway, what is happening is that when these cameras ftp this information to an xp machine on the local 100mb network, some folders end up with A LOT of jpg images in them. In one day, one camera can store over 100,000 images in a folder. Opening these folders takes a long time...sometimes up to 5 minutes just to see the contents.
I have tried both using and not using File Indexing, but it seems to be the same speed either way.
From what I understand, the main resource File Indexing uses is memory. The systems these images are being saved to are WinXP Pro machines running at 1GHZ minimum to 4GHZ maximum and memory ranges from 512MB to 2GB.
I watch the task manager while loading these directorys and CPU is never over 4% so I assume the CPU has little to do with whatever is causing the system to take so long reading the files.

Anyone have any ideas as to how I can speed up the process of viewing these folders with so many images in them?

I have a one year old computer running WIndows XP. Each week while running Norton Scan, my files seem to increase by a couple of thousand a month. My computer is not running slow and everything seems normal but I now have 185,000 files on it. I daily delete cookies and temporary internet files using the tools function on the menu. I am not downloading anything other than the updates from Norton and WIndows. This has been happening for about six months. Why are so many files being added? Thank you for any help you can offer.

My computer is a few years old and over time - I appear to have accumulated over 700,000 files (per Norton AV during full system scan). In review of Windows Explorer (including hidden and system files) - I can only find about 150,000 files total. What and where are all those unaccounted for files - and how can I get rid of them? (makes scans etc. a real time consumer). I have CyberScrub Privacy software which cleans the index.dat files (as least as far as I have been able to tell). But the number of files continues to grow. Thanks for any help!! I have certainly come to respect the knowledge base here - you people rock pretty hard - DB44

I did some work for a small company (replacing all PCs with newer PCs). They wanted to donate the PCs to a local youth group that I help out with and I told them I would take care of it.

I now have eight (8) Dell Optiplex Gxi 133 and seven (7) Dell Optiplex Gxi 166. All the hard drives have been fdisked. All hardware is identical (except for the processor). I even picked up nine (9) Dell Lattitude 166.

And may be hard to believe, but company was very good about keeping ALL original documentation and software. (Windows 95 and Office 97).

What would be the easiest software to use to make one good image and then transfer to all the PCs...and one image of the laptops? I really don't have time to individually load everything on each PC and laptop.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!!

I've had this HP laptop running Win XP Pro-SP3 for almost two years. Since the very beginning, I've had this ongoing problem with websites causing IE to crash when accessed. I would say that this problem occurs with about 15 - 20 percent of sites. Examples of problem sites include:

Thanks,

Hello. I am trying to permanently erase about 67,000 files from my recycle bin and other places on my computer. I found these files as a result of a recovery program called 'Recuva'. Whilst Recuva shows a huge list of deleted files, I have no means of accessing and transferring these files to the 'File Shredder' that I also have on my computer thats running Windows 10. I'm thinking there must be an easy way of getting rid of so many files apart from the enter individual file or folder method as prescribed by the File Shredder program.Can you help me please?

A:File Shredder and large number of files

Why do you need to shred these files? I would just empty the recycle bin.
File shredder is a program to eras "personal document" from your hard drive to prevent anyone recovering them. If you keep the original or updated files on the same drive it's a waste of time.

I'm trying to copy a DVD catalogue with over 30,000 product images onto a USB backup drive. Windows 7 Explorer cannot seem to do this. It copied some of the files but then just stopped copying.

I rebooted my machine and tried to copy the files again but Windows reports that it's going to take almost 4 hours to copy! I suspect, however, that it will fail again to complete the task. The backup device has a data transfer rate of 450Mbps so it really shouldn't take that long, surely?

Is there other software I should use that's better than Windows Explorer? Or some other method to accomplish what I would have expected to be a simple task?

Hi there
It's a "Roundabout" way but this should work and be quite fast.

If you have a decent backup program (NOT WINDOWS STANDARD BACKUP) that is capable of copying DATA as well as just "Imaging" a disk / partition then this method will work quickly and easily.

I'm using ACRONIS but any decent commercial backup program will work similarly.

1) Backup the data to a spare area on any disk. The file will be called something like xxxx.tib in the case of acronis.

2) Now Restore the data to your USB device.

Job done --easily and very quickly normally.

Hi,

I'm trying to delete 1500+ hidden files (located in different directories) from my flash memory. But when I highlight them all and choose "delete", I get the "Preparing to delete" dialogue which says:
Time remaining: Calculating...
Items remaining: Discovered 0 items (0 bytes)...
Speed: Calculating ...Click to expand...

And it stays like this FOREVER until I cancel the operation. It will only work when I delete about 50 files at a time, which I'm not willing to do every time.

I've tried this both on my laptop and desktop with Windows vista business/home premium service pack 1, and it still didn't work.

Any idea how I can solve this issue?

UPDATE: It appears that the issue occurs only when I'm deleting files locating in different directories through the 'search' function. It's still an issue though, and I'd like to delete all files of a specific kind instead of doing it through each and every directory.

Your help is much appreciated

a)When I put *.log in the search space, at first *.tmp files show up or vice versa. After some time the desired files show in the list. Is there a way to prevent this?

b) Some times files show up in the search list, but when I click on these to delete them, a message 'the file no longer exists in this locatin' shows up. why does the system show names of files that 'no longer exist' in the search location?

c) Some times a message appears 'you do not have permission for this action' when I try to delete a file. I could delete these files on previous occasions. Some times I have to run 'take ownership' 2-3 times before I can delete the file.

d) Some times when I type *.log in the search space. *.tmp list appears or vice versa. After a while the correct list appears. How can this be prevented?

Hello:

I have a computer owned by the family of a friend that is complaining about a large number of unwanted programs being installed on the computer. The family stated that some of those programs began opening pop-ups advertising various things, e.g. virus scans. One member of the family went through the control panel and manually removed several of the programs. Subsequently Ccleaner, McAfee, and MBAM scans have been run, each identifying varying PUPs and being instructed to remove them. According to the family most of the PUPs appear to be gone, however there does seem to be a small number (1 to a small handful) that reappear upon reboot.

The computer is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. At this point I am looking for advice on tools or techniques to verify the issue is confined to PUPs and there hasn't been a malware infection, and to identify any remaining PUPs and remove them.

I do not have regular access to the machine in question, however the friend does and will be able to run any scans, pull information, etc. as needed.

Thank you!

My friend decided to download something without double checking, and via installation a huge number of unwanted software were installed on his computer. Immediately after installation, both Chrome and Internet Explorer were modified. After restarting the laptop once, the following things happened

1. The screen brightness was changed, and power option could not be accessed to revert the change
2. The "start" taskbar was changed from blue to white, which usually indicated something was changed in the power and/or graphics setting as far as I know.
3. Internet access was removed, and windows could not detect any hardware to connect to the internet. The laptop's model number was Asus X555L and it ran on Wireless before.

Hi

I am working at a large charity organisation wiht many computer illterate people. What has happned is that many shared files are saved all over the place and are therefore easy to find.

I recorded a simple macro with toolbar button to put the path and filename in the footer. Easy. However, I have to do this for 60 staff members profiles. A little tedious but not a great problem.

What is a problem is suing th emacro in the existing files. I oculd open them apply the macro save and close but that would take forever. What I would like to do is find a way to apply the macro on existing doucments in one foul swoop without opening them all. Is this possible and if so could somebody please help to show me what code to use and where to put it to resolve this:

I started using Process Explorer (Process Explorer) a few days ago instead of the standard Task Manager. This was so that I could determine which program is blocking access to some JPG files I recently downloaded.

But thats not what I want to talk about. Take a look at the following screenshot:

The AUDIODG.EXE process has an impossibly high number of handles - 1,344,509. The screenshot was taken a few minutes before writing this post. Last night, the handle count for that process was just a little over 930,000.

A google for AUDIODG.EXE reveals that it is part of the Vista Audio Service. The follow is extracted from Larry Osterman's blog on MSDN:

What is AUDIODG.EXE?
One of the new audio components in Vista is a new process named audiodg.exe.

If you look at it in taskmgr, the description shows "Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation", but that's not really particularly helpful when it comes to figuring out what it does.

The short answer is that audiodg.exe hosts the audio engine for Vista. All the DSP and other audio processing is done in audiodg.exe. There are two reason it runs outside of the windows audio service.

The first is that there's 3rd party code that gets loaded into audiodg.exe. Audio hardware vendors have the ability to install custom DSPs (called Audio Processing Objects or APOs) into the audio pipeline. A:Audio Service has large number of Memory Handles

Hi Peter,

This is very strange. Here is my 'Process Explorer', executed with administrative credentials of the same, taken just before writing this post. As you can see, mine only has a handle count of 116, and has been fluctuating between ~110 and ~130.

Check the properties/details of this file. Here is what I get:

It is possible that some application which makes use of this service fails to properly relinquish its resources (quoted section highlighted in red), a bit like a memory leak.

Hey guys, I don't do much programming, but need to create a huge list of numbers in a certain format. And not sure where to start or know the proper commands.

I need to create a list of sequential numbers in hexidecimal (0-F) and need it formatted a certain way

00000000-00000000-00000000-00000000
to
FFFFFFFF-FFFFFFFF-FFFFFFFF-FFFFFFFF

The number is 32 to the x16 and I do need the hyphens in the numbers and a "," in front of every number and a "." at the end of every number.

Then put all numbers into a plain text file.

If any one can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Fix Windows 7 SP1 Slow Startup Due to Large Number of Restore Points - Softpedia

The Redmond company confirmed the issue and noted that impacted users have created a large number of restore points, a move which cause the slowing down of the startup process.
According to the software giant, affected customers are most likely using large hard disks in addition to create too many restore points on their machines.

Microsoft did not explain just how slow the startup process gets, but it appears that boot performance degradation is sufficient for users to become aware that something it’s going on.

“This issue occurs because the boot plan for the ReadyBoot feature exceeds the size limit of 512 kilobytes (KB). Each restore point creates a snapshot of Windows that Volsnap.sys must validate during the startup process,” Microsoft explained.

“When you create many restore points, the boot plan for the ReadyBoot feature eventually exceeds the size limit of 512 KB, and cannot be stored. Therefore, startup I/O operations are not precached, and the startup process is slow.

Well, I don't think 50 is a big number - but I do agree 50 restore points are really more than what one (read: I) need.

That explains a bit or two. Will either take down these restore points to a sane number or apply this patch. Unsure which of them, but I will definitively work on this.

Hello,
The aim of this post is twofold: first, I would like to help people who are as irritated with Windows7 explorer as I am. Second, I would like to spark a reaction from Windows developers and maybe understand why the -7explorer is as painful as it is.

The issue is simple:
I would like to sort, rename and visualise the large number of photos I have.
While everything was working perfectly with the previous Windows versions I had, these basic tasks have become nearly impossible with Windows7. Cancelling the automatic sorting is difficult, renaming files results in the explorer getting lost and visualising files per alphabetic order appears to be impossible. Finally, even having a good layout on the screen is mission impossible after moving or renaming a few files.
At this point I hasten to add that I am not a beginner with windows or computing in general. I have used previous Windows versions for years both at home and at work, and can do my own bits of code if needs be.

The only solution found so far:
After doing a fair amount of reading (and wasting a lot of time), I decided the only solution was to go for an alternative to Windows7 explorer. I personally chose to download? FreeCommander? but there are many other alternatives. So far it answers all my needs and I have stopped using Windows7 explorer.

My question to Windows developers:

Why on earth wreck a product that worked so well before? This is beyond me and I would sincerely like to understand. Anyway my m... Read more

You just don't know how to use it
To cancel automatic sorting, right-click on an empty space, and in the "View" sub-folder, uncheck "Auto arrange icons".
Secondly, with the first setting, renaming files will not make the lost, because after you renamed them, they will not be automatically arranged again.
The third issue, visualizing files per alphabetic order, is simple again. Just right-click, go to "Sort", and press "Name". Now, all the files will be sorted by name, alphabetically.

I'm sharing a folder on a Windows XP computer with 15,000 sub-folders/files over a small network. This folder used to be hosted in Windows Server 2003 machine. But after I made the switch to XP, accessing the shared folder over the network takes over 1 minute for the files to list.

Does anyone know what might be causing this slow performance? And is it related to the XP operating system?

Any tips and advice will be greatly appreciated.

About a week ago my PC somehow became infected with the Google redirect virus. I started searching for information about how to remove this, downloaded some programs (which may have caused more problems), and eventually discovered that the machine was infected with somewhere around 159 viruses. At first it was still possible to use the computer, but eventually the machine started freezing almost immediately after booting up. Before it came to that extremity, I had managed to download the Combofix program. Although I had read that this was not to be used without expert supervision, my machine had gone so haywire that I was on the verge of erasing the hard drive and losing all files. Before doing that, I decided I might as well try to run Combofix, which remarkably was still able to run despite all the infections/freezing desktop. I ran it in spite of being unable to disable my Symantec anti-virus program, as whenever I would disable it, it would automatically re-enable itself within moments, and I simply could not find a way to disable it. Combofix seemed to fix everything, and the PC was running well again.However, today my weekly antivirus scan alerted me to a large number of viruses, all but one of which it quarantined. The one that was not quarantined is titled atapi.sys.vir. I would be curious to know how my system became this badly infected with so many viruses, and especially how I can delete the atapi virus, and delete all the other viruses which have been qua... I mirror some folders from my Macs in the house to my Windows PC.  Specifically digital photos and music.  In the process of copying the files from Mac to NAS (I am using FreeNAS) and down to my PCs I get a ton of the .AppleDouble folder/files.  I have since altered my mirroring routines to ignore these files but now I am trying to clean these up in my windows PC.  I can easily search for them in Explorer, select all, then delete.  However this never works.  It starts counting the files to be deleted and then generally just disappears.  I have googled around and it seems like it is just running out of memory or something - but it never concludes.  If I select a smaller amount of the files and delete it works fine.

So, is there a utility that will allow me to select and delete a large quantity of folders based on a file mask?  Thanks.

There are other freeware programs like this. Give this one a try or search for others. Configure basic information and set a size limit of email you wish to allow through Outlook. When you run Spam Pro, it will delete it automatically -and you can delete manually if you wish. Then you open up Outlook and bring in the valid emails. Be sure to get the freeware version.

I am using Outlook Express 6 with XP Pro S/P2, & often receive U-tube attatchments from trusted friends without any problems. However, when I re-send them from a saved file, to other people, just some of them get only part, or plain gobbledegook, and it has happened to people using O/Exp. as well as Firefox. Just last night I tried to send one in a compressed .war format plus a .wmv format and when it was taking ages to up-load, I hit the stop button to, hopefully, do just that. Now I have received a reply from my friend (Who also uses O/Exp. ) saying that he has received 12 corrupted copies and is naturally, not happy.

Is the problem likely to be his end or mine, and is there any settings which can be checked to rectify this or should I just revert back to the safe-but-slow, postal system !! ?

Hi there

If you have Loads (and I mean Loads) of small files - e-books, excel data. word docs, emails etc etc then File explorer runs REALLY slow on even fast devices

I gave up moving this lot after about 4 hours. (W10 machine).

Switched to Linux system -- did it in 45 mins similar hardware to W10 machine - both Real machines --not VM's and direct transfer (not via LAN).

What gives !!!!!

I know it's only a 1 time move but similar hardware with identical HDD should not have a HUGE difference in the move --note in fact Linux actually has hard a harder job since the file system was NTFS which isn't a native Linux file system either. Source system external HDD on USB 3 device,, target systm larger HDD device on USB3 device -- no hubs - USB 3 transfer working OK on both W10 and Linux so reasonable comparison.

IMO the NTFS file system has serious problems if you start messing around with this type of data. !!!! Perhaps Ms need to look at a better file system for Mass storage devices. 5 and 6 TB HDD's are quite common now even for consumer sector and not expensive either.

I know this is an exceptional job but it does show that something in File explorer isn't very efficient once you start manipulating large volumes of data - especially in small files. (Approx 290 TB of data consisting of 128,000 files in 55,000 odd directories)

I'm usually quite happy with Windows - but there is definitely a problem here. Fortunately it was a 1 off job though !!!!.... Read more

Hi there,

I have obtained an Excel 2010 workbook containing 1339 sheets of tables. The tables are all in the exact same format and represent an itinerary. Each sheet was extracted from a different pdf page and each entry is unique. There are 34 row entries on each sheet and each entry has 9 columns.

I need to be able to combine all 1339 tables into one master table on one sheet so I can sort and filter as one.

Many posts have discussed the Consolidate function however this involves naming ranges for each sheet. Obviously I can't do this easily for 1339 sheets.

Is there a way I can get all the data appended or concatenated into one master sheet? I have tried importing to Access 2010 to help but it only appears to allow one sheet at a time.

I feel like this should be easy so apologize if it is in fact.

Thanks

Any clue as to what this file/folder is all about? And, more importantly, how to delete it? (Assuming it's not necessary.)

I was going to try to upload a .txt file here, but it is 62.22mb; and zipping the file only went down to about 42mb
I managed to take a screenshot of a small portion of the .txt doc contents. (I got that .txt file by using this DOS command: dir>0bad.txt)
You can see the obad1.jpg here on my website:

You can access the actual .txt document via my Dropbox account--it is a 62.22mb .txt file.

I've tried & tried to delete the folder...
~ via DOS commands
~ by right clicking it and selecting: delete.
~ by creating a .bat file

I've also tried to put the folder in my Comodo\s file list, so that I can mark it as: malicious.

I tried using: Fast Copy software --- because I read online that it might be good for deleting large files. (This 0bad file has about 1 million files in it--so says its Properties dialog box.)
I tried UBCD, but the CD would not boot up. (Despite using several diff CDs. I even tried it on another PC just to see if it would boot up--but no joy.

I've been using the RTM version of Windows 7 Enterprise through my companies gold partnership msdn program. So far I'm really impressed, a great improvement on VISTA.

However a problem I used to get with VISTA, which was solveable, now haunts windows 7. That is Vista used to spend a lot of time trying to preview AVI files, stoping you from renaming, moving or deleting them. The fix I had with vista:-

ECHO Un-Registering shmedia.dll...
REM Remove Media (e.g. AVI) preview, type and hit enter
regsvr32 /u %windir%\system32\shmedia.dll

However this doesn't work with Windows 7. I don't want to disable all previews, just the video files, mainly AVI. Any ideas?

Also on the new Windows 7 toolbar, I don't like how much extra space the notification icons take up (e.g. the ones near the clock), there all really spaced out. Anyway this can be changed? On vista and XP if I have a double height taskbar, you get three rows of notification icons. Now you just get two, even with the new larger windows 7 taskbar. I've hidden just about as many as I can, but still takes up 1/3 of my task bar.

A:Windows 7 Problem moving / deleting large AVI's

I don't have a solution for your problem, but I'd just like to remark Windows 7 has quite a few glitches when it comes to video and multimedia. Among the other ones I've noticed, thumbnails previews are EXTREMELY inconsistent. Some work, some don't. That is with videos playable by WMP. And even with the same codec, some work some don't. Also there's still things to be ironed out with MOV files support.

When I send an email less than about 250 kb, it goes off without a hitch. However, when I send an email with a bigger attachment it stays in my outbox and appears to be continually resent on a loop, with recipients getting numerous copies of the email. I have Bit Defender for virus protection - is there something wrong with its configuration, as it seems to be scanning the outgoing emails slower than it takes to send them? I have set Bitdefender not to scan outgoing emails, however.

A:Sent emails with large attachments repeating

Sounds like you have a 'mail block'.

I have been the 'recipient' of this. All I got was the same email constantly. I resolved it by deleting it directly at my ISP. ie. I logged onto my ISP and looked at mail on there rather then 'OE' and deleted the large file.

This may be the problem. I think the limit of email attachment in OE (if that's what your using) is 10MB. If you need to send larger files you might want to try msn messenger, you can send huge files over that.

I hope this helps

Is there a FAST WAY to "Select" or highlight 4,000 out of 8,000 emails? It would take hours to hold down the Ctrl key and individually click all 4,000. Using Edit>Select All will not accomplish what I need. In a regular Windows folder, one can hold the Ctrl key and drag the cursor beside a long list of files to select them. When sending a large e-mail file in Win 7 Outlook, typically a large mp3 file, Outlook will sometimes get hung up and the e-mail will not leave the outbox. It stays stuck there trying to send repeatedly but never successfully, messing up everything else in Outlook. I have done lots of on-line homework and there are many more suggested simple solutions, but this is the only one that seems to get the job done: Delete a Message Stuck in the Outbox
It's a real pain! It took me about four hours to find the solution that works and then at least 30 minutes every time I have to research the article and then hack Outlook to free up the stuck email in the outbox. The MS corporate on-line forum teckies insist that it is a e-mail client server problem, which is absolutely false as many others also agree. I don't care if the e-mail does not get through as much as I just want to be able to delete it from the outbox when it gets hung up in a never ending loop of trying to send perpetually, eating up processing power, and it will never leave and it can't ever be DELETED without some serious hacks to the Outlook program. That's not a client/server issue.

Anyone else have the same problem or find a simple solution?

I'm sorry to contradict, but I think this is a server problem. If you send an attachment that is larger than the server-set limit, you'll run into problems. A common limit is 5Mb - are the troub... Read more

I need some info to pass on to a friend without seeming too grouchy. I think it's cos she really just does not understand and I don't know how to explain it to her.
The problem is.

I use Outlook Express as it's what I've had ever since I had a computer. I have Gmail also but the express address is the one all my old friends already have.
So then, I have this one close friend of many years who from time to time insists on sending some things, photos mainly, that are too large for my screen. Yeah I can see them but only by scrolling from side to side and up and down, which is a pain.

I can't open her docs either if sent as attachments and finally got her to stop sending those. But not photos.
The latest photo is 1.53MB. That doesn't seem large but it sure fills the entire screen.

OK I know I can forward them to gmail and open there and see what she's sent, or even just give her that address.
Fine. No problem there. But it bothers me that I can't find a way to instruct her on the proper way to send photos via emails.
She claims nobody else has ever said anything. Maybe so. Maybe they don't want to offend.

Thanks
JayD

Hello,

I have ACT 2009 through a remote server. Whenever I try to send a group email to a large current lookup (over 70 emails), the system locks up and crashes and I lose the email. The only work around is to divide the lookup into smaller sets of emails and send multiple emails.

Any help as to why this is happening? It also happened on older versions of ACT.

Thank you,

A:ACT email locks up with large group emails

ACT! (and Outlook) will do this as they run out of resources.

To do email merges from ACT! 2005 and later use either MergeMaster! or SwiftPage

For ACT! 5/6, use MergeMaster!

I am using Windows Live Mail to send to my Verizon and msn accounts. I can receive mail consistently. I can send small mails consistently. If I try to send a larger mail...it gets stuck in the outbox and all subsequent mails stack up behind it.

Right now, there is a 900kB mail in my outbox. If I try to send to my Verizon account, I get a message:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity.

I have an email account with Gmail. and when I receive large emails with attachments ( 4mb and more ),It is very slow to download through outlook express.If I go to the gmail server with firefox and download the large emails,it takes very little time but with outlook express,it can take up to 15 minutes.It means I have to go to the server first and check what kind of mail I have before getting my mail with outlook express.
Is there anything that slows down outlook express.I have disabled the virus scan for mail and no change.

A:Outlook sending multiple copies of large emails

Did the emails actually come from your system? You'll have to go through the headers to determine the actual source.
Or do they just have your email address in the From and/or Reply to fields? Not much you can do in this case, except file a complaint with the ISP the email was sent from.

I'm posting here for a my next door neighbor. He is having a difficult time sending emails larger than 3MB. They seem to get stuck in the Outbox. He has been through multiple conversations with his ISP (Verizon FIOS) and with Microsoft. No one, so far, has given any definitive help. Sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't. I've spent a few hours now trying to figure out the problem but no success. I actually gave him this computer about a month ago and I never had this problem with it.

Any of you Guru's help would be greatly appreciated.

He's running Windows XP PRo SP2 3.2 GHz w/ 1 GB memory. The email client is Outlook 2003 SP1.

Hello,
Lately I have been using a program called Xfire to record some gaming clips. The uncompressed files are pretty large (60gb/40 mins of gameplay). After I delete a file, there seems to be less space on my hard drive. For instance, yesterday I recorded and then deleted a clip, and I noticed I had 1gb less space on hard drive afterwards. I emptied the recycle bin, used the disk cleanup utility and did a defrag, but the 1gb was still missing.

Can anyone help me find the root of this problem?

Much appreciated,

Hadley

Frequently when I receive an email that includes previous emails I have sent e.g. the received email contains my original email, the original email has extra line spacing that were not there when first written. Each time an email is include with a new one the number of blank line spaces increases. This appears to happen at each point where the original line of text was completed with a (carriage) return. Sometimes the emails grow so large that they become difficult to read.

I can delete the extra blank lines but they usually return went the previously sent email is next sent or received. I have had this issue for quite a while but usually the number of times an email is bounced back and forth is relatively low.

I read somewhere that this issue might have something to do with an incompatibility between emails sent in html but received and viewed as text only, and visa-versa.

I am using Firefox 27.0.1 with GMX web based email account and Thunderbird 24.3.0 to backup the emails. The problem existed with other versions of Firefox and I have only recently been backing up my emails to Thunderbird. Because my English grammar and spelling is quite bad, I frequently write the emails using MS Word 2003 ->Spell/Grammar Check-> then copy and paste into the GMX webpage.

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Of course, the emails are not really from DHL.

My sister got hit with this via email in a 0-day attack - she was infected as of 8 AM on Monday, 23 March. Symantec did not find anything, at first, until she had already run the executable inside the ZIP file, and it started downloading known viruses. This is a pretty generic Trojan that downloads other trojans and backdoors and viruses to the system and begins a systematic onslaught on the machine, starting with adding proxy settings to IE redirecting it to a local 'server' running on port 7171, and going from there.

The bad news is that when it hoses IE, it also hoses MBAM's ability to update - but fortunately, Sophos has already added it to their definition collection (called IDEs) and you can follow the instructions at Sophos - Removing Trojans including the downloading o... Read more

Hi Guys,

first post, I have tried searching to find a solution to this problem, but couldn't find anything.

Basically one of the guys at work here is having trouble with his Outlook deleting random(well not entirely but will get to that) emails.

this is the situation, he checks his email on his iphone, or webmail and there are emails there. (doesnt matter if he reads them or just sees the headers) he then gets to work opens outlook and they are not there. In terms of what emails aren't coming through seems to be random senders, but all of the senders emails.

We can see the emails in "recover deleted items" but once they are recovered they just get instant deleted again (you dont even see them in the inbox).

he is on windows 7 and we are using outlook 2007.
not sure what exchange server we are running, if its relevant let me know and ill work it out.
thanks.

Hi
I have recently had a complete computer crash and had to reinstall my programs/files etc.
Since I reinstalled office I have this problem with outlook. i have an exchange account. Prior to this outlook and my iphone reflected the information on the exchange server, so if I read and deleted an email from either my pc or iphone it deleted it from both. Now, however, if I delete from outlook, it doesn't delete from the server so it still shows on my iphone. Deleting from my iphone still has the desited effect of deleting from the server and hence outlook.
Is there a setting somewhere that I need to change?

I would usually say that you do not have outlook set to delete them off the server after downloading them but later you say they are not still on Google mail. This is perplexing but just in case, see settings in Outlook and make sure it is set to delete mail off server after downloading.Also clean out trash/deleted item folder in Outlook, Recycle Bin in Windows, and run Disk Clean Up. Then restart the machine.You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I have windows 7 and am using Windows Live Mail on my HP Pavilion g7 laptop. Every now and then a message that goes to my sent file cannot be deleted. For many of these messages, the original body of the communication is no longer displayed. What I see when I click on it is the wording:

Message cannot be found
The contents of this message cannot be found.

Some of the emails however, still have the original body of the message. In both cases, when I click on delete, either from the pop up list or from the delete symbol in the top menu bar I get a single beep and the message: "An unknown error has occurred."

This has been going on for several years and I have contacted the Microsoft people to assist with this, but they have been unable to help me delete these messages. As of this writing I have a total of 86 of these messages I cannot delete. There seems to be no pattern to what will delete and will not re the people I have sent the messages to. This is not something that is causing any slow operation or other problems, but I sure would like to know how to get rid of these emails so I can keep this box cleared out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It's very unnerving. I have a lot of e-mails that I have kept unread to come back to when I have more time. Now everything after July 2005 is gone.

I have recently installed Windows 8.1 and use AOL for mail. If I use the 'Search box' located on my inbox page to find a website and then return to my inbox and try to delete the text from the 'search box' - emails in my inbox get deleted instead. I have checked that I am placing the curser in the "search box" but it still deletes one or sometimes several emails. Does anyone know why this would happen.

This is one of three quirks that I am experiencing - another is that having opened an email from a website e.g money supermarket when i click in the right hand corner to maximise the page size it opens full size then immediately reverts back to the original. And finally when I go to return an email and start typing the message it will type the first few letters and then stop. I have to replace the curser, click and start typing again.

These are all annoying, they don't happen consistently and I have no idea if they are related or not. Can anyone give me any pointers as to what might help.
