perhaps try running a system restore to a date prior to the updates starting to get your system files back where they should?

Hello all,

I've got a Dell Vostro 1500 Notebook that has the infamous GSOD. I've been reading on this forum and google for the past 3 days about getting rid of it. First, is the 1500 another name for a more popular Dell laptop? I don't see much information about them.

Anyway, I called Dell and they agreed to give me the master password after verifying that it wasn't stolen. After putting my on hold for about 5 minutes, the tech said they could not generate a new password for this model. He said I could remove the CMOS battery to reset it. I had already done this. Instead of going from the POST screen to the GSOD instantly, I could see a message about RTC being corrected. I would think this means the BIOS got reset.

The next thing the Dell tech told me was that there was a jumper to clear the password next to the CMOS battery (this is under the RAM cover). I could not find any jumper. I found out later today that Vostro is also a name used for some desktops, so I'm thinking that maybe he had the wrong service manual out?

Now the laptop is not in my possession and I've been trying to find some higher resolution pics of the mainboard to see if there is this jumper somewhere. I can't seem to find it....

Has anyone ever heard of Dell saying they CANNOT create a new password for this model? I thought that all -595B security was the same. Since I don't have the laptop currently, I cannot try shorting (or even f... Read more

I have a friend's laptop and it is randomly blue screening. 0x000000a sometimes. At least that is what it did with me. Anyway, there are other codes in these mini-dump files.
Why won't the forum let me upload the minidump file? Do I need to zip it?

Getting intermittent BSOD. Some days nothing and other day a number of crashes.

Dell Vostro 1500 was originally shipped with Vista 32. Did a clean install with Win 7 x64 Professional.

Attached is the zipped BSOD Dump & System File Collection with the Perfmon HTML file in the zip as well.
I did run a memory check overnight a few weeks ago and it came up clean.
Appreciate any help - thanks.

Hi candem and welcome to the forum. I looked at your four most recent dumps. They show three different bugcheck codes and blame Windows system drivers, which are highly unlikely to be the real causes. Since no definitive cause is given, you will have to troubleshoot.

1. Begin your troubleshooting by uninstalling Spybot. Tea Timer is loading at startup and it, like many third party security programs, cause conflicts and BSOD on some Win 7 systems. I do not know if Tea Timers is causing a conflict. I suggest you eliminate it as a possibility while you are troubleshooting. Once you know your system is stable, you can try Spybot again. HOwever, I recommend that you install Malwarebytes (free) and run it as an on demand scanner. MBAM works very well with Win 7 and is a good program.

2. Out of date drivers are another big potential source of conflict and BSOD's. You have some outdated drivers loading on your system and some are quite obsolete. Update the following drivers or uninstall the software/hardware they are associated with. Begin by updating netw5v64.sys.

I have been experiencing an increase in BSOD's over the last month. From the minidump file, it seems I was averaging about 2 per month, but it has gone up fast this month. I upgraded to Windows 7 in late November of '09, with a clean install of the 64 bit version. I upgraded all my drivers at that time.

The crash errors I see at the time of the BSOD make me think I have driver problems, but I have recently discovered that Dell does not provide support for Win 7, OR 64 bit operating systems in this model. I think I have all 32 bit Vista drivers.

I have attached the minidumps, and a .txt file of a new CPUZ report in case that would be informative. I hope you can tell me what the problem is, and how I can find the proper drivers.

Thanks.

Recently, while I'm on the internet, my computer randomly freezes and I have to restart it. This keeps happening more and more frequently. When it freezes, it's the whole computer - cursor, keys, programs, the numlock button doesn't respond, if I was in the middle of playing a video then it goes into broken-record mode, etc.

The thing is, my warranty JUST ran out. Go figure.

The programs I'm [usually] running when this happens are Digbsy and Google Crome.

Here's some info:
Operating system: XP
My internet browser is Google Crome, but Firefox and Internet Explorer are also installed.
IM programs: Digbsy and AIM
Antivirus: Windows Live Onecare (Norton was installed, but I just uninstalled it to see if it was conflicting... didn't fix the problem)
I have a lot of sims2 games installed, but they run just fine. I have various other programs also.

I've done disk defragmenting, and run scans for malware/adware/spyware, and it's in the process of the Diagnostics test.
It came up with these error messages:
2000-0333 Graphics test timed out waiting for keyboard response ((this one followed the screen going all colorful and flashy and crazy and the computer was beeping like a mad thing))
0F00:137B DVDRW_4 - Drive media is missing or blank

I don't know what either of these mean... ...vaguely, I think I do, but I probably don't.

My laptop is 18 months old & has been powered up a total of less than 100 hours, mostly with the power adapter plugged in. It has been carefully handled.
Recently on startup I get the following message :
"The AC power adapter wattage & type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match power available. Please connect a Dell 65W-AC adapter or greater for best system performance. To resolve this issue try to reset the power adapter."
This message shows up every time on a re-boot. Have to hit F1 to continue. Power meter shows 100%.

Is this an indication that the Model HA65NS1-00 rev: A01 adapter supplied by Dell is about to fail? What might be generating the error message?

Wasn't sure whether to put this here or in the security forum, but since it's not a 'problem' per se, I opted for here.

Purchased a new Vostro 1500 laptop for my son in the Marines:

Intel Core 2 Duo T5270
1.4GHz, 800Mhz, 2M L2 Cache
15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA LCD for Vostro 1500
2GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 DIMM
128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
160G 5400RPM SATA Hard Dr
XP Home Edition, SP2
Integrated 10/100 Network Cardand Modem, for Inspiron
Dell Wireless 1505 Wireless-N Mini-card

The machine has no security software pre-loaded and I'd like to send him some instructions for downloading security software before his machine becomes a nightmare.

My first suggestion would be AVG Free/AVG antispyware, then perhaps AdAware, SpywareBlaster and Spybot.

Does anyone else have suggestions for making this machine as impenetrable as possible?

He also has never had a laptop before (nor have I) so if there is anything we need to know pertinent to laptop security/maintenance could you offer your advice?

Thank you, all.

Hi, I was wondering if I could get a 2nd opinion on the dump files from my BSODs.

I get them pretty consistently and at first I thought it had to do with some flash/ad blocking plugins i was using with firefox, but it kept happening with IE as well. One of the dumps says utorrent.exe, but i'm not 100% if that's the cause. I was using utorrent constantly for 2 weeks without any BSODs, but got 5 bsods just today.

I also noticed the dumps also make reference to "Genuine_Intel" in one line, I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that i'm using an engineering sample of a core 2 duo T9500 in my laptop?

I never had problems like this running Windows XP SP3 on this same configuration before

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop with Windows XP Home Edition. My problem is I was getting runtime errors and the computer was freezing up a lot. I'm broke and got the computer from Circuit World (which is a rent-to-own electronics store for any of you who may not be familiar with it) and they did not provide me with any software, no Recovery discs and no utilities discs either. The laptop has a builtin webcam and of course the basic Dell Utilities are pre-installed. I have a Windows XP Home disc and would like to install it, but I'm not sure how or even if I can. I would also like to be able to use the builtin webcam after reformatting/reconfiguring the computer, but not sure I can do that either. I'm sure I could get help from Dell, but only if I am willing to pay for tech support due to the fact that the warranty on this laptop expired quite some time ago and I don't have a credit card either, but I am sure that I'm intelligent enough to resolve and repair any problems myself if I could just get some professional guidance. So if anyone can help me or at least tell me if I need the utility drivers in order to use the builtin, pre-installed webcam and if I can install Windows XP from my disc (a reminder: this disc did NOT come with the laptop. I have no software for this computer at all), I would really appreciate it! I have yahoo, hotmail and skype messengers if anyone knows how to help me with these problems, has patience and the time and know-how.... Read more

I am thinking about getting a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop with Vista Home Premium installed. However, I must be able to dual boot Win XP. I know that the model supports XP, as it is an option on purchase. I have my own copy of Win XP Home with SP2 that I can install.

From what I can gather, Dell DOES ship a true reinstall DVD for Vista, yes?

Since Windows likes to have the oldest version installed first on a dual boot configuration, then I would need to wipe the HD and break down any preexisting partitions. What parititions exist from the factory? I would imagine there is a restore partiton...should I leave it alone?

Once the HD is wiped, then I would need to install XP, but I have learned that since XP does not have SATA drivers, would need to either slipstream them into an XP CD (I have never done this) or could a person use an external USB floppy drive to load the SATA drivers?

After this hurdle, it should be a breeze, yes? Create an XP partition, install into that partition, pop in the Vista DVD, boot, and let it do its thing in the remaining space?

Also, does this monkeying around affect that MediaDirect feature? Is it a partition that needs to stay where it is?

I just want to know what I would be looking at for difficulty before I make my decision.

Are there any CLEAR, step by step instructions out there that anyone knows about?
Thanks

I have a Vostro 1500. When you turn the power button on, you see the Dell logo and then the screen goes black. You can tell the lcd is on, just nothing on it.

I hit F12 and tried to boot to a windows cd, and it recognizes the windows cd and hit and key to boot to cd. When I do it goes starts to load , and about 15 seconds later, everything goes black, cd stop spinning , but power stays on. No fan etc.

Same results when hooked to external monitor.

I also can boot to the Dell diagnostics and ran everything and everything passed except the battery health. It will run the diagnostics fine, for hours, everything passes. But when you try to load windows or boot to cd, no go.

I can get in the bios fine.

I have tried this with the battery in and battery out. Same results both ways. The diagnostics did say the battery was bad, but it is the same reults even when the battery is not installed and I am running on adapter.

Motherboard maybe ? Motherboard diagnostics passed also . I just don't know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. It seems like the fan is always on. What driver controls this? (so that I can get the appropriate driver or is it the BIOS that controls the fan?)

2. Also, the hard drive accesses some data for a split second every 10 seconds or so. It does this all the time even when idle or on the logon screen. Any idea why this happens?

Hello

Power is not going through to the battery or the laptop. The battery and charger are just fine as I have got them checked plus the laptop just works fine with the current battery. The problem is that I cannot charge the battery or run the laptop by directly plugging in the power cord.

How I messed up:

I was trying to fix my old original dell charger but I accidentally connected the outside two silver wires with the plug but not the middle white wire and plugged it in the charging port. Result: It didn't charge so I tried my other working charger but even that was not supplying the power to the battery or the laptop now.

Question:

Have I burnt something? If yes, what exactly is it and how it can be changed? I am assuming one of the fuses or something of the motherboard is burnt because the laptop and its battery are just working fine. The only problem is the power not going through the charging port to the motherboard. The technician in my area said it cannot be the charging port as it ''looks'' fine from the outside. Something is just burnt inside and that is why the power is not going through. He didn't open the laptop or anything because I did not want to pay. This was just his speculative suggestion. All I need to know is what needs to replaced on the motherboard to make the power go to the motherboard and the battery. Thank you.

P.S. Laptop is not under warranty

Hello All,

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 running XP that has been just fine for the last 18 months then about a week ago started to freeze. That is the cursor would freeze and CNTR-ALT-DEL would not start the task manager. Result being a hard reboot to get back to a functioning state. The freeze is random, originally I thought it was related to firefox but it also halts while using MS office. I have done the various scrubs using CCleaner, adaware, malwarebyte, AVG, etc. AVG has found a few things but has indicated that the infection/trojan was cleaned up (Generic13.TTY, and 2 instances of PSW.Sinowal.S) Any help getting the family machine back on its feet would be appreciated. I have a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop running Windows 7 Home Edition, 32bit version. For some reason I cannot get the laptop to run in "normal" mode. It runs in SAFE mode and I can surf the Internet and all, but it won't run in "normal" mode. When I try to run in "normal" mode the computer just hangs up, and won't connect to the Internet, when I click on ANY browser. What could the problem be. Any help would be much appreciated.

A:Dell Vostro 1500 only runs in SAFE mode

Hello therealshell and welcome to Seven Forums.

From Safe Mode see if there are any damaged or corrupt system files. Try running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Also make sure you run a full scan with your installed anti-virus suite. It wouldn't hurt to run another free on demand scanner just to double check nothing was missed. this free product is recommended.

I've been having this problem for a week now - it's driving me crazy!

BSOD happens when it goes into hibernate and sometimes when I come back after being away and need to log back into windows (ie it hibernates but doesn't crash until I come back).

I tried a restore a few days ago but that didn't work and have checked for updates but seem to be up to date with everything.

I've followed the instructions to give you all the system info you need (hopefully) from http://www.techsupportforum.com/1871981-post2.html

2 of the files are here and the next 2 will be in the next post.

Hopefully you guys can help save my sanity!?

Hi,

I recently upgraded the ram in my Vostro 1500 from 2 512MB sticks to 2 1GB sticks. The installation was fine and my computer ran much faster for the next two days. However, now the computer refuses to boot. I press power, the caps lock key will flash for about 30 seconds and then power off. Nothing else turns on, there's no error message or anything. I assume this is some problem with the RAM but I have tried resetting it and switching it around but to no avail. I'm away from home at the moment so I can't put the old sticks back in to see if that will fix it. Is there anything else I can try to fix this? Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

A:Dell Vostro 1500 Flashing Caps Lock, no boot-up

Hello there.

The first thing you would need to do is swap the new sticks with the old sticks to see if the computer boots up. If it does, then your RAM is either faulty, some settings need to be tweaked or there could possibly be incompatibilities. Post back when you get the chance to test the old memory.

First time poster, long time lurker (even before my join date). Before posting, I would like to thank this forum for solving many of the problems I have had with my laptops and desktops over the past year. Usually, I search and find answers and trial and error till my issue is fixed.

So a very big thank you to all the members here who have unknowingly helped me in the past.

Now, onto my issue:

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 that is experiencing extremely slow boot times (3-5 minutes). When I press the power button, the laptop flashes the Dell logo, the loading bar fills (2-3 seconds) and then the screen goes blank and there is a blinking cursor at the top left of the screen. The laptop stays this way for about 3-5 minutes before loading my operating system.

I have ruled out the hard drive by pulling hard drives from my other laptops and booting to them. The issue persists no matter which drive I use. It will still boot to the operating system, it just takes 3-5 minutes.

Following that, I have taken the laptop apart, cleaned it using a can of compressed air, checked the heat sink for thermal compound wear, pulled and reseated the RAM from both locations, pulled and reseated other connectors such as keyboard, monitor etc.

So far, nothing has improved the boot times. I have run out of options and even after searching this forum I still haven't found this particular issue listed or solved. Most blinking cursor issues I came across were machines that refused to boot into th... Read more

Hi,

I have a dell vostro 1500 that has started getting a horizontal line down the middle of the screen and showing the same info on the top and bottom. The computer also crashes sometimes so quickly the blue screen of death doesn't even show up.

I believe from googling around that I have a bad NVIDIA G8400 video card, part of which Dell won't replace out of warranty since it's not soldered in.

http://en.community.dell.com/blogs/...ate-limited-warranty-enhancement-details.aspx

I see in the link instructions on how to replace the video card, so that's what I plan on doing.

Does this seem like the right approach to fix my problem?

I am mostly an internet surfer / quicken user...what kind of inexpensive video card should I buy? Any suggestions on good sites to buy from would be appreciated.

Thanks for any help!

Hi Eric,

My Vostro 1500 just died. I've owned it for 1 year and a half. It's out of warranty and it's not included on the list of "affected" models. I can't call to dell right now to hear their (predictable and negative) answer about this.

Have you had any more news about this? Could you get it fixed? Do you know other Vostro 1500 users having the same problem? Any information you can give me would be really useful, as you may have noticed that there aren't many 1500 users reported of having the issue.

I'll be waiting for your reply.

A:BSOD dell vostro 1014, hangs when charging, auto shut downs

Don't have both Malwarebytes and MSE running at the same time. They will conflict with each other if they both have AV engines running simultaneously.

Anyways, you have hardware failure, most likely CPU/Mobo/PSU. Most of your bugchecks are 0x124 WHEA errors reporting consistently that the bus for your CPU internal L0 cache is failing. There's also heavy corruption going on with a good bit of the other bugchecks.

If you want, you should first try and update all Dell drivers, especially your BIOS and CPU/chipset drivers. While I doubt this will resolve the issue, there are rare cases which this is caused by BIOS problems or even a messed up/buggy chipset driver.

Your laptop should still be under warranty. You'll need to send it to Dell and have them service or replace the laptop. There's nothing here that you can - nor are you permitted - replace on your own.

What do you mean by dated configuration?

Can I upgrade my processor to intel i5 and increase my RAM from existing 4GB limit to 16 GB. Click to expand...

The only hardware upgrade option that most laptops has is adding more RAM.

Yours is already maxed out with 4 GB of DDR2 RAM.

There is no way that you can magically make it accept 16 GB of RAM.

That model laptop comes with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

Even if its processor was user-upgradeable, I doubt that it can use an Intel Core i5.

-----------------------------------------------------------

That model laptop is about 8 years old, so I'm guessing yours came with Windows XP 32-bit or Windows Vista 32-bit.

What's the "service tag" number and/or "express service code" number on it?

My laptop, vostro 1500, Model: 22PL, Service Tag: BB24HD1 has recently started giving beep codes on bootup.  I believe the code that it is sending is  2-4-4 followed by 10 beeps.  Also I am having keyboard problems.  The SHIFT c, d, e, don't work.  I am only able the use them with the shift-lock key.
I have upgraded to Windows 10.  I have run a full diagnostic scan and it can find any errors.  I have also reseated the keyboard cable and memory module several times with no change.

I updated an old laptop, Dell Vostro 1500 from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Everything is great, the touch pad works, it is much faster than it used to be, only thing is, none of the 4 USB ports work.
I've gone to dell's website, all I get is an alert that says device is not compatible with Windows 10 and that everything is up to date. I haven't been able to find the specific drivers on intel's site and their program detects everything is also up to date
I googled and can't find anything other than sites like driver scape, which I know nothing about
Under device manager, there are 14 items under USB, there are 7 USB Family Universal Host Controller with numbers from 2830-2836A
And then there are 7 USB Root Hub with an error symbol. When I check properties I get "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged (code 19)"
I've tried uninstalling and scanning for changes, that didnt work. I also tried CCleaner's registry fix
What are my options, is there any way to get USB ports to work on my laptop?
Thank You

hi there,

i am a new user, and since past week my laptop has not been operating correctly. I am not a techie person, but feel I am fairly good with computers in general, but this problem I have is a strange one.

I am using a Dell Inspiron on Vista, and recently every time I start up my laptop, I see the big Dell logo load up as normal, and then it goes to the blue updates screen, and then runs the timer saying 'update 1 of 3' and it will run up to nearly 100% complete for the first update and then the laptop will turn off by itself, restart and then its back to the same updates screen again. This will keep happening continuously each time I switch the system on. Its nothing to do with the power either as this happens even when its plugged in.

One time I actually switched it on (after it being off for 3 days) and it loaded onto the normal Windows menu screen, and I instantly loaded my Kaspersky software to run a scan, which it started, and then the laptop shut down and then again back to the blue updates screen, which it has been doing constantly since then.

I even tried the Diagnostics scan which you do on start up by pressing F12 (I think), which didn't come up with any problems, and then when Diagnostics scan was finished, it again went back to the blue updates screen.

I even tried pressing Ctrl + F11 on switching on the laptop, trying to get it to erase everything and go back to factory standard, but even that wasn't working. I don't mind losing ... Read more

Hi, I had a GPU fail in my Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. The card that failed was an NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS. The Vostro laptop actually can accept an NVIDIA 8600 GT card too. So I ordered the replacement part from Dell for the 8600 and they shipped me a refurbished unit.
The surgery to put in the new card took all night for hack like to do. I did not look carefully at the refurbished unit they shipped me as I was nervous handling the card (that I might break it).
But when I turned on the laptop after the installation, I did not get a pause at the BIOS saying “I see new hardware” like I did when I upgraded the RAM.
After the computer booted up I uninstalled the 8400 driver and then installed the 8600 driver. There was a snag at it’s possible that Windows automatically reinstalled the 8400 driver during one the required reboots but I KNOW that I wrote the 8600 driver over top at least (I had hoped to do a clean uninstall then reinstall but Windows tried to grab a driver for me).
So now when I right click on computers, properties device manager it shows the video as still the 8400 card. The 8400 card I removed has a sticker on it that says KU907 on it. The invoice for the 8600 that Dell sent for the 8600 says KU907 on it too.
I think I was sent the wrong part from Dell (I paid a higher price for the 8600 GPU) . Is it possible that a legacy driver is making the Vostro think it has the 8400 when the part IS an 8600. Or when I go to the Device Manager, does the computer physically c... Read more

I found this list on the Dell site that tells you whether they have tested a particular model for its ability to be upgraded to Windows 10.   The Dell Vostro 3550 is not on the list of about 20 Vostro models, some with lower model numbers ,  some higher.   Will they ever test it??
If you try to upgrade,  windows 10 copies files and then in the 2nd of the three major sections of the upgrade (where you have that big circle in the middle of the screen)  it just goes to a blank screen and then all disk activity ceases and it becomes well hung.   Of course now, the machine thinks its os is win 10 and you cannot go back to a win 7 recover point .  So you just lose all your data and apps and restore the factory image and then install 208 windows 7 updates and it takes like 8 hours in all.
Sounds like a similar problem that people had with Vostros going from win 7 to win 8.   Why not fix it.

A:Windows 10 Upgrade - why isnt Dell Vostro 3550 on the list from Dell ?

Well, after spending the better part of whole day trying to figure out why somebody else's Dell Vostro 3550 was not displaying anything after an even longer period of downloading the Windows 10 upgrade (from Windows 7 in this case) it turns out the fix required was to upgrade the BIOS to A11 (end of 2012).

Hopefully this might save someone a wasted day in their lives. Before this I spent some hours before figuring out that the machine was in fact booting - only the display was black. So then it was a matter of figuring out key strokes to use (blind) to shut down and also enable the menu for safe mode. Safe mode worked, and so then more hours trying to work around the issue before finally stumbling onto some stuff online where the BIOS upgrade was mentioned - apparently also an issue with Windows 8?

I bought my Dell Vostro 3800 ST almost 2 years ago, sadly I didn't really do my research before I bought it, and it turns out, card that came with it wasn't really great for gaming and it's nearing the end of it's life.
So I'm planning to buy proper card, but my tower is waaay to slim to fit in it comfortably.
So my question is, will I be able to take my motherboard to another, non-Dell case? If so, what type of case would be good? I did try to find online, what type of motherboard it is, but if there's an answer to that question, I can't find or understand it.
I'd be grateful for any help provided :)

A:Will my motherboard from Dell Vostro 3800 ST fit into non-Dell case?

It's more or less a micro-ATX board so it will likely fit a standard case.  That said, wiring the power switch, hard drive LEDs, etc. will be difficult - they're not standard and it may be a lot of trial and error to make work.

I have been getting internet speeds of 300/300 on a 1500/1500 WDSL
connection for the last few days. Tech support hasn's been much help.
I just wanted to be sure I didn't have any Hijackthis/malware problems.
I have good ping/traceroute times (under 100), and I have done the usual resetting the modem/router etc.
I ran cwshredder, spybot, and adaware & did 2 online virus scans.
PC is running normally otherwise.
Thanks for checking it in advance.

Hi, I tried to exchange the 40GB disc for a 1500GB seagate barracuda 7200.11 disc but the Dell Optiplex gx620 doesn't recognize it. I installed the latest Bios A11 from Dell but it still doesn't recognize it. I mounted a 750GB Samsung drive and no problem. Is there a limit on the drive size in this computer? Thanks, Martin

A:Dell Optiplex gx620 Seagate 1500 Gbytes

There may be a limit present in the BIOS (or by the SATA controller) for large drives. Aside from trying a BIOS update (which didn't work), you may be out of luck.

I just bought 2 new systems from Dell. An XPS 410 and an Inspiron E1505 (Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7200 (4MB/2.00GHz/667MHz) 2GB 677Mhz RAM, 100 GB 7200 RPM Seagate Hard Drive, 256MB nVidia 7300 graphics card and Dell 1500 Draft N Wireless Card). I want to know what router I should get that will give me the best short range speeds with my Draft N Wireless Card. I dont care about long range speeds. My livingroom (where I want to use my notebook) is about 25-30 feet from where the router will be. I cant decided between Netgears WPNT834 RangeMax 240 Wireless Router or Netgears WNR834B RangeMax NEXT Draft 802.11n Wireless Router. Or is there another router that would work better? I like to play online games ie (City Of Heroes, City Of Villains, D&D, Guild Wars) Whatever would be best for online gaming.

Have searched and searched for this writer info but found nothing. This is a burner in a T3302 E Machines tower. About 3 months ago I burned a backup of her hard drive to CDs using an older Acronis TI version. I have now acquired and installed Acronis TrueImage 9.0.0.3677 and tried to burn to DVD media. Won't do it so I tried to find any firmware updates; can't even find the burner on the web; which is IDE\CDRom HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC44828. Any help anyone? As usual TIA.
Oh, and I tried 2 different media; including TDK.

I HATE modern networking with every fiber of my being. Once upon a time, networking was simple. To support huge corporate networks Microsoft has made it into a nightmare for home users.

Last week I upgraded to Win10. My wife backs up here win7 data on my backup drive. She is on the same wired network a I. After my upgrade she could not access the folder to backup her data. Everything was working for three years before the upgrade. In spite of all the assurances from Microsoft that functioning would remain the same I discovered the Win10 upgrade had changed the permissions. I redid them to allow everyone to read/write to her backup folder. Problem solved for a few days. Now, once again, she cannot access her backup folder. The permission changes I made remain but she gets a message asking for the "network username and password." After much googling I'm almost certain there's no such thing as a "network password." Since a network password does not exist it's impossible to supply one.

I can see her computer and access it. She can see my computer but cannot access it for the reason stated above.

Anyone know how to get past this roadblock?

A:My Wife's Wife's Win7 Macine Cannot Access my Win10 Machine.

You operate your PC as an administrator? In that case it may help to define a user "mywife" and a password, and to set the sharing and security settings for this user.

hi i have a dell vostro 360, and im just wondering if i need to to upgrade my Dedicated Video RAM. i want to play games on the pc but when i check if it will play a game i allways fail on the video ram, i just want to know if i can resolve this problem.

A:dell vostro 360 do i need to upgrade

johnboy18, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Unless there is an option in the bios to increase the amount of system ram allocated to graphics, there is nothing to do.

Also can not suggest/recommend a new video card as what you have despite it being sold as a desktop, is nothing more than a laptop built into the monitor with all the same limitations as far as upgrading parts goes.

I have a dell Vostro and my battery died on me. On the battery it says "Capacity 56Wh". I found some batteries at batteries.ca and they are for my laptop but they are rated different they say " 4600mAh" instead. Can some one tell what the difference between these 2 ratings are. Also there is a battery there that says "6600mAh". Doest this mean it would last longer?

thanx

A:Dell Vostro battery

You have to do a conversion, see here for an explanation: http://www.camerahacker.com/Definitions/Battery_Capacity_Conversion.shtml
But yes, the higher the number, the longer it will last.

2. went to setup/bios: checked devices: no dvd rom
3. checked boot device priority - dvd rom is listed
4. rebooted laptop and clicked f12 to choose boot device: DVD rom not listed
5. Upgrade bios from a04 to a06 - still the same (tried dvd rom driver - couldnt find drive)
6. removed device - still the same
7. there were a few times that the dvd rom led light lit up during boot - now it doesnt light up at all

If you can't see it in setup, Windows won't see it either. If you're out of warranty, it may be time to start looking for another drive.

Hi,

Can you try booting into Safe Mode. To get into the Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Options Menu". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

This will hopefully bootup into windows with the START menu available amongst other things.

Then I want you to try a Windows System Restore. You did not mention what operating system is running on the Dell laptop. Assuming it is Windows XP try the following:

To use System Restore to restore Windows XP to a previous state, follow these steps:

Log on to Windows as an administrator.
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.

On the Welcome to System Restore page, click to select the Restore my computer to an earlier time option, and then click Next.

On the Select a Restore Point page, click the most recent system restore point in the On this list, click a restore point list, and then click Next.
Note A System Restore message may appear that lists configuration changes that System Restore will make. Click OK.

On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer.

Hi all

I hope someone can help me with my problem. When I turn on the computer I get a black screen that says one or two things:

PXE-E61: Media test failure check cable
PXE-M0F-exiting broadcom PXE Rom.

Operating System not found

or Press F12 and any button

So when I press F12 and enter I get a screen that says Boot menu

Hard drive
USB storage
CD Rom Drive
Removable device
Broad com PXE
Diagnostics

I hit hard drive and the computer turns on and operates normally except for internet use. For some reason I cannot connect. I added my network but it still won't work.

Any idea why it won't turn on sometimes and I get the operating system not found message and why when I hit the hard drive button it turns on like normal. I know I need a new adapter as it always say that it is unrecognizable and will not charge battery. I might need a new battery as well. I think I got that message before it stopped signing on normally. It has been a few years I sort of just put this computer to the side and got a new one when it went all wonky.

P.S. my computer knowledge and verbiage is practically nill so try and be as simple as possible.
Thanks

A:Dell Vostro 1000

PXE-E61: Media test failure check cable
It usually means that at start up it did not find the hard drive, Cd but is trying to boot from the Network card.

Remove the hard drive - check the contacts and then reseat the hard drive.
Check in the Bios and see if the Bios sees the hard drive.
A dead Bios [Cmos] battery can also be the cause.

Hello all, My friend has Vista Basic 32 bit. She has a Dell Vostro 400. Well since she added the E machine Monitor she has had to always push F1 to get it to go in start up mode. Well now she says, she has to continually push F1 until it goes into startup mode. So we are not sure what is going on.

It says there is an extra graphic's download or something like that. How do we fix this issue?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

A:Dell Vostro 400 gets stuck on F1 HELP!!

I doubt anyone here will know what you are talking about from your first post (hence why you got no replies in a week), so, additional clearer information will be needed.

Do you mean she plugged in a new LCD monitor, or that she installed some e machine monitoring software?

What is "start up mode"? Why does she have to push F1, what happens if she doesn't push F1?

What "says there is an extra graphic's download or something like that"  Do you mean that when you get into windows it tries to install some sort of graphics driver for a new graphics device or something?

Are you able to get into windows?

Hi PrioSteel! Try going to Start->Right-Click On Computer->At the left bar click on Device Manager (You may get a UAC Prompt, just accept it) Check if any Devices have an Exclamation Mark on their icon (See ScreenShot) If they do, the device needs drivers.

Hi Folks,
I'm new here and this is my very first post. I'm unsure if this question has been posted already so apologies in advance if it has.
Basically, I have a DELL Vostro tower that currently has 1GB RAM. I bought a 2GB Crucial RAM DDR3L stick which i thought was compatible. However when i insert the RAM and swich on I get a double beep.
Can anyone please advise me what i'm doing wrong here as I really dont know what to do next.
I was thinking the problem may be that the RAM is DDR3L instead of DDR3, however i'm really not sure.
Any help from anyone would be very much appreciated.

But before i buy i would like to take suggestion of your.

I don't see anything appealing in the review you posted. It has Intel video, which is commonly known for poor performance. You might need video performance because you would do a lot of graphs. ( I think, for a stock trading business )

Dell Vostro 1000 (which had Vista Home Basic).

This laptop had no issues, but I wanted to install a new OS.

I have done ("several times") a complete reformat and fresh install with a Windows 7 Professional, as well as, Vista Home Premium.

I have updated BIOS and Chipset drivers as well. The PC was not doing this prior to any reformat or full install, so its only after these processes

The screen continues to blackout, but the PC is still running. I do a hard power off and it comes back up, but continues to have the video go black constantly. I have read on the forum about this issue, but I have done all it states to do to try and remedy this problem.

Any help in resolving this issue, would be appreciated.

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 running WinXP Home. No sound. I do get the system beeps; there is no longer a volume icon in the tray. I think I am missing something like the name of the soundcard under "other devices". See picture~It indicates a hardware conflict and I have run that diagnostic with no result. I have downloaded updated drivers.....I have read so many solutions I am thoroughly confused..... So, I purchased a Soundblaster USB sound card, followed the directions to no avail. Then I read :"If you think you have a sound card installed but you don't see it under the Sound, video and game controllers category, expand the Other devices category and check the devices listed there.
Laptops don't usually have sound cards. Instead, they have integrated sound processors, which appear in the same category in Device Manager. If there's a yellow question mark next to the name of the sound card in Device Manager, there might be a problem.
Right-click the name of the sound card, and then click Properties.
Click the General tab, and then look in the Device status box to identify problems with the sound card.
If there's a problem, you might need a new driver for your sound card. For more information, see Step 3: Update drivers." I have done that.
"If your computer uses onboard sound which is built into the motherboard then make sure it is enabled in the BIOS. If you are using an actual PCI soundcard then the onboard audio should be disabled." M... Read more

Hello. I have a Dell Vostro with the windows 7 operating system and an Intel Core 2 duo processor. I've had it for 15 months and I've never had any problems other than occasional freeze ups. Now, I switched to Century Link (not sure if relevant) but around 6 pm (Mountain time) the internet slowed down substantially and froze my webpages and it seemed like my entire computer stopped responding. So I held down the power button. When I tried to reboot, I chose the safety one to see if any files were damaged or corrupted. Unfortunately instead of showing me something, I only see the Windows 7 blue screen with the leaves and bird. I left it alone for 20 minutes, nothing. So I shut it down and tried again. Same thing.

I've never had any problems and I'm horrible when it comes to computers. I'm using an old Dell and it's horribly slow and ancient. I would really appreciate any help or advice you can give me.

Hi,
Can you tell me that which Os is more stable on Vostro 1400 notebook.

A:Which one is best OS for Dell vostro 1400 ???

This usually ships with Vista basic - which is as much use as a chocolate teapot. You can upgrade to vista premium or bite the downgrade bullet and take it to an OS XP Home or PRo that is established with at least 3 service packs. You don't include any specs - so answers may be vague as a result. Give us PC info. and we may be ale to help.

A:DELL Vostro 1400 - Best BUY ?

All the above is meaningless until we know how you intend to use it.
Are you buying this from Best Buy?
What OS do you intend to install?
Why not buy direct from Dell?
What's the price?

I have a Dell Vostro 270 desktop which was left on overnight, now it won't come out of low power mode or start up.  Purchased in July2013.
I could hold the front power switch in for a few seconds to power down but now the PC wont power up.  I press the button (turns white) fan spins but then the power button on the front panel turns off automatically.  The PC then just seems to repeat this without user intervention but gets no further.
I did pull the power cord out of the back so that the green light on the psu goes out and then re-inserted the cord several hours later and the PC started again.
However now it won't start again (not tried the power cord removal again yet) any ideas ? Google seems to bring up similar issues but no definitive answers.
Any ideas please ?

Hi,
Have you tried removing all memories and power up the system?? Try with 1 memory at a time.
If the issue is still the same, then either the PSU and/or motherboard is faulty

I've downloaded the drivers from dell, tried a couple others, and still winamp gives me "bad directsound drivers"... its not just the winamp configuration--absolutely no sound comes out. The sound used to work perfectly when i was using vista on this same computer (dell vostro 200), but with XP i've had no luck whatsoever. what can i do? is compatibility so messed up that I should just go for a new sound card?

A:No Sound Dell Vostro 200 Xp Pro

fixed it!!!!!

for those of you with the same problem, xp just had to find the drivers... sounds obvious, i know, but it was under "PCI device", and i also had to install dell media card readers, smarcard updates from microsoft update, and when i clicked "reinstall driver" for the pci device with a yellow exclamation point, said install it for me, blue progress bars went by, a beep came out of the speakers and i leapt with fright and joy!
