I'm trying to connect my Xbox 360 to go on xbox live though my laptop using windows 7. I have tried almost every website possible to help me set it up and I have followed all the steps correctly, but I don't have a sharing tab that shows up and I also can't bridge my two connections for some reason. When I right click on the two connections to bridge them together I don't get an option to bridge them. Will you please help? Thanks!

I just recently purchased an Xbox 360 and am trying to get on Xbox live.
I have a dell laptop that connects wirelessly to networks, I bridged the wireless
and LAN connections together to try and connect via a cable directly to my xbox.
The problem is that once they are bridged I can no longer connect to the internet
on my laptop and the xbox live connection fails the IP test every time. I tried to
allow in the advance options of my connection for other networks to access, but it does
not allow me because of something with the IP in use with my LAN and wireless connection.
So any ideas anyone?

Hi, I've been using my laptop's wireless to connect to xbox live via my router for a few months, and all was working fine until I did a complete system restore on my laptop around a week ago. Since the restore I always get the error message " Can't obtain an ip address from your router or modem" from my xbox, despite bridging the connections through the network and sharing center. I've tried lots of solutions posted online, but to no avail, can someone please help me??

This morning I went to go on to the internet and it says it can't connect to a network. I've never had this problem before so I clicked on the network and it said it couldn't detect any.

When i clicked on "diagnose the problem" it says "there are driver or hardware problems with the network adapter "dell wireless 1390 WLAN mini-card" on this computer.

I have a Dell Inspiron 640m

I can find the cord to hook it up to the internet with a wire (I can buy one if absolutely needed) and I do have the original software CD.

I not good with computers so if anyone can help me out I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

Hi:Take a look at device manager, particularly the WLAN card.Any error indicators?
Let’s take a look at the status of the network adapters

Device manager:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.
1. Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
2. Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
3. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?
4. should be enabled and working properly.
5. If error code,what is it ?

It would be best if you could post a screen shot of Device Manager with the Network adapters and Other devices sections expanded.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

Also.Go to the Dell site.Search the drivers available for your particular model by inputting the service tag # for your unit.Should be on a side or bottom tag along with model and serial #.This will make it a lot easier to determine the proper driver(s) to download/install

Also,let's see this:
Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

hello, i hope someone can help me as i have spent countless hours browsing the web and different forums for an answer, so i am finally posting somewhere hoping someone can help me directly.

i have a laptop connected to my neighbors xfinity wifi hotspot, using my uncles login information. i have a steady 4 bar connection and am able to access the internet, the connection is not the problem. i have an ethernet cable connecting my xbox and laptop and i am using Internet Connection Sharing to get access to xbox live, this works however i am losing connection ALOT and it is very frustrating trying to play multiplayer with my friends. i am guessing that ICS is not as reliable as Bridging the two connections.

i can successfully create the bridge and can still access the internet on the laptop, but cannot connect to xbox live. while running the test to connect i can get it to connect to the network by entering the information manualy, but then it fails to connect to the internet due to 'the dns servers cannot resolve xbox live server names'

please help and i will be happy to provide more information if needed.

It would be better to connect the XBOX directly to the router (if possible)

Make sure that the laptop is connected to the wireless.

Go to Control Panel and open Network Connections.

Right-click on the wireless connection and choose properties.

Click the Advanced tab check the box to Allow other network users to connect

through this computer's internet connection

In the dropdown menu select Local Area Connection

Hello I just bought a new television so thought I would finally be able to get to play xbox live in a television away from the router! But of course like always there is is problems....
I'll start off by saying I understand about bridging your pc's wireless connection to the router and the wired connection from the xbox to the pc. I did the same thing last year with my old laptop and it worked fine.

However the problem lies in that my computer isn't recognising the xbox as a network device atal! They are connected using an ethernet cable (and the orange light comes on at port when xbox is turned on) but the only thing showing up in networked connections folder on the pc is the actual internet!

I had read that sometimes an ordinary ethernet cable isn't enough and it must be a cross over cable used to connect the pc and the xbox, so went into the shop today and purchased an adaptor that changes the cable to a cross over... but still nothing is showing up.

Does anyone have any idea how I could over come the problem? It's pretty frustrating I've already spent literally hours trying to fix it and have no idea whats wrong.

My computer is fairly top of the range, windows 7 and uses a netgear usb network card.

Thanks!

The DSL is fast enough. Since you don't have a router, make sure you buy one that's XBOX compatible.

Okay so my setup is a Speedstream 5100 connected to a D-Link DI-624 router. Laptops seem to work fine wirelessly connected to it. My Xbox is connected via an Ethernet cable. It can connect fine if I run it straight to the modem, but when i connect it to the router, the connection test doesn't make it from xbox to network. My connection worked fine up until a few months ago, then out of nowhere it just stopped working. I have no idea what could have happened, I don't recall messing with any settings on the router or xbox 360. Help me please.

OK,

I've been at this for a while now trying to figure out something that will work but all I've done is manage to stress myself into turning my hair gray.

The problem is that where I live has free wifi, but no Ethernet jacks. So I bought a Cisco Valet Wireless Adapter for my PC. Now I'm online YAY! But I want to take my Xbox 360 online (an no the wireless adapter for my pc won't work on the 360 ) I have a belkin 54G router that I absolutely never use anymore and the wireless adapter. My plan is to somehow, with what resources I have, create a way for my xbox 360 to use my PC WITH the wireless adapter to connect to Xbox Live, but I can't figure out a way.

I've tried sharing internet connection from my Wireless Adapter and then linking an Ethernet cable from the PC to the Modem plug for the router and then from the router another Ethernet cable to the 360, but the 360 gets as far as recognizing a network and then craps out with something about "Your DNS Server can't resolve the names of the xbox live servers or xbox.com" when it gets to the internet check.

I've also tried the same thing by plugging the PC Cable to a connection port instead of the modem port, but to no luck.

Can someone please give me a good option here so i DON'T have to buy an expensive wireless adapter for the 360?

How do i connect to xbox live using a wireless desktop?

A:Connect To Xbox LIVE

Do you have the XBOX wireless antenna (must be purchased separately)??? If you already have the antenna, then make sure that your computer and XBOX are within range of each other. Your XBOX should be able to pick up the signal. Go to the wireless settings section of XBOX setup (not sure of exact names of the menus) and fill in any necessary info about your computer's wireless setup (user name and password, network name, etc). Once the correct info is entered into your XBOX, it should have no problem finding your router and connecting to XBOX Live.

Hi,

Over the holidays, my main desktop crashed and deemed unrepairable after 6 years of perfect connection. This meant that I have had no connection to my existing Xbox Live account since late July.

Until I get a new desktop at Christmas, I am stuck with a Dell Inspiron Mini 1012, with a 3 USB modem for internet connection. With my old desktop, I used an ethernet cable to connect to my Xbox 360 (Premium 60GB, to be precise) with the USB modem for connection, and that worked just fine.

However, it does not work when I connect on the laptop (which runs on Windows 7). Any useful advice?

Cheers

You may have forgotton one more step, which is to bridge your two connections together so your laptop acts like a gateway for your xbox. Search for Internet Connection Sharing or ICS in your Windows help files and it should have the information you need.

Try connecting the XBOX to the modem directly if you can to see if you have access. If you do get access then it sounds like you may have an issue with your router

I hope that XBox question is ok here, if not would someone be able to please point me is best direction.

A few months ago son got XBox 360 and plays on line with a few friends through joining what I think is called a Party on XBox Live.

However, the 1 person he wanted to join with he cannot, and that person cannot join with him. They both can join the other friends at same time. I have done several nights of research and best solution suggested at this point is maybe a NAT issue or Port forwarding,

Setup (for us)
ISP Australin Optus with Dynamic IP
Modem Spreedstream 4200 (with NAPT set) with port 3074 forwarded.
To Belkin F5D8233-4v3(01) Router. No port forwarding set at present but did try both 88 and 3074 but not sure about the IP setting due to dynamic IP.
XBox usually connects wirelessly and seems to be no issues with on-line play other than the 1 friend. We have a cable that we have connected directly to the Belkin Router and this made no difference.

We bypassed the Belkin Router last night and he was able to connect to the previously un-connectable friend.

This suggests to me that it may be one of our router settings. Some places on Net suggest it may be too high security on NAT but I cannot see any particular settings on the Router for NAT but it does say it's enabled.

The XBox test for Network does not indicate any issues when you run it.

I did think about trying to set some IP's for internal machines but have no idea how it's done.

I went to the xbox website for support and it said it should be set to greater than 1364. So checked the MTU setting on my router and it's set to 1492.

Has anyone got any ideas why this could be failing or how this could be fixed?

Hello,

I am *extremely* frustrated right now, for the past few hours I've been trying everything I could to access Xbox Live using ICS.

I have Windows 7 Starter on my Netbook, my internet is broadband Verizon Wireless USB760, meaning it plugs into my usb port..and I have the ethernet cable connected to both my Xbox and my netbook.

I have a Local Area Connection set up for the Ethernet, when I go to Network And Sharing Center --> Change adapter settings, it shows both my Verizon broadband connection and the Ethernet one. I know I'm supposed to right click them and click the Sharing tab, but...There is none one either one of them. It just has the Networking tab. I also tried bridging the connection, but there's no option for Bridge Connections when I have them both highlighted and right click on one...

I really don't know what to do from here, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Im in a dorm and the networks here dont allow us to get on Xbox live, so naturally were getting around this.

I know I can connect my xbox to my PCs wired LAN and using the Internet Connection Sharing utility, I can connect to Live. The problem is that when I try and set this up, Im shown an error....

"An error occurred....

Internet connection sharing cannot be enabled. A lan connection is already configured with the IP address that is required for automatic IP addressing."

What the hell man this is pissing me off. ICS is supposed to be a really simple way to share a connection and as usual, XP tells me what the problem is with out a way to fix it. Im not going to use bridging because that seems to cause more problems than it solves.

How can I fix this and get on Live through my computer which is connected to my wireless router.

Recently got Halo 3 and a friend of mine got it soon after me. Problem is when ever either of us tries to join a game the other is playing or accept an invite from one another it doesn't work. On my side it tells me that my NAT is moderate and directs me to www.bungie.net/router which gives me very little information. He said his told him it timed out.

Funny thing is I can join and accept invites from 2 of my other friends on Live. Been searching for an answer for the past week or so. Everything I found has told me to switch my Xbox's IP to a static one and gave me values for it and then to go into my router settings and open up ports. Every guide I followed resulted in me not being able to connect to live what-so-ever. I put the IP back to Auto and was able to connect again. However, I still could not play with my friend.

My router is a Linksys WRT54GS which on the official Xbox website is listed as Xbox Live compatible.(however it says v2, mine does not have a version number on it) Also my Xbox is connected to a desktop that has a wireless card in it and is set to share its connection with the xbox. I also tried moving the xbox to hard wire it to the router but ended up not being able to connect at all again. I am very frustrated with it and am considering buying a new router, however if anyone knows will buying a router with the xbox live logo on it guarantee a fix? or is it a waste of money and theres a simple way to fix this problem that has so far eluded me.... I bought an xbox one a while ago and connected it to my Netgear WNR2000v2 via ethernet cable. I have been having NAT trouble since I connected the xbox one. My console was saying that my NAT was Strict and the game I was playing (Call of Duty Ghosts) said that my NAT was moderate. My ISP is comcast and they provided me with an ARRIS TM722G/CT for my internet. My internet setup is this (since im not tech savvy )

Phone jack -> Netgear WNR2000v2 -> Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360 via ethernet cable

Phone jack -> Netgear WNR2000v2 -> ARRIS TM722G/CT -> Comcast's TV remote receiver thing (can't think of what it's called) -> TV

Also, whenever I try to "Test network connection", it says im all good and when i try to "Test multiplayer connection" i get "Can't get a Teredo IP address". I'd like to have my NAT be open, if possible. I have contacted Microsoft and they just basically tell me that they can't do anything.

Swift replies and solutions are greatly appreciated.

Warm regards.

Just been trying to set this up via my AOL connection. I'm using ICS and a crossover cable with my 360. My ADSL modem is a BT Voyager 105. I'm using a wired connection to my pc with the crossover cable. I've got through the IP address & DNS test ok, but it fails on the MTU one.

I've downloaded the DR TCP program and have changed the MTU setting for the network connection & the ADSL modem to 1365 - higher than the recommended limit.

I just don't understand this at all...I've set up a new connection to AOL with ICS enabled and this connects fine, just the XBOX fails on this mtu test and I can't get around it.

I understand from other people that AOL's mtu setting is ok, so not sure why this isn't working.

Anyone got any ideas on how to help a poor chappy in need?
Thanks in advance

A:MTU test failure when trying to connect to XBOX Live

o find the proper MTU Size, you'll have to do a special ping of the
destination you're trying to go to. A destination could be another
computer, or a URL.

1. Click on the Start button, then select the Run option.

2. In the "Open" field type in command (If you're using Windows
2K/NT/XP use CMD instead)

3. Once the window opens, you'll need to do a special ping. It
should be formatted:

ping [-f] [-l] [MTU value] [Enter] an e...e optimum
for the network we're working with.

I think the problem is that on network connections there is only one connection (the wireless one my pc connects to our router through) but there used to be a normal LAN connection aswell and I just cant seem to get it back after running all the setup wizards.

Hi all,
Basically i have been unable to connect to xbox live via a network bridge on my laptop for the last few days. It's confusing me because i have been using this method for several months with no issues at all yet it's now suddenly started playing up.

The problems started when i got a brand new BT homehub 3.0 the other day so im not sure if this is anything to do with it.

In an attempt to fix my problems i have been on to the xbox support website and followed their solutions exactly several times but to no avail. I'm not great with this technical stuff but i believe the fixes i have already attempted include;

Restoring xbox to factory settings
Resetting my hub (many times)
Manually assigning a new IP address to my xbox
Checking to see whether DHCP was enabled (it was)
Typing in an alternate MAC address
It's really frustrating because i always have poor connection whilst playing xbox, especially when im using my wireless adapter which is now very old and cant hold a decent connection up. The new router came and I was thrilled when for the first night it came my connnection was perfect (that was whilst using network bridge which confuses me even more) but then it went downhill.

Any help would be really REALLY appreciated as i'm absolutely stumped. Thanks

Alright so all the dorms at my university are completely wireless and there are no ethernet ports. To access the wireless internet from my laptop, I had to enter in my school login and password the first time and now it automatically logs me in every time. I have a wireless adapter for my Xbox 360 (the official Microsoft one) but it could not connect to the university wireless. The error message I get is that the MTU setting is insufficient and that I need to manually change the router's settings (which I obviously cannot do).

Then I tried enabling Internet Connection Sharing on my laptop and connecting my Xbox to my laptop through an ethernet cable. To make that explicit, with my laptop I connect to my university's wireless. Then I enable ICS and connect my Xbox to my laptop with an ethernet cable. Then I am able to connect to Xbox Live. This seems to work most of the time. I can play online and the speed is just fine. However, sometimes (like right now) it doesn't seem to work. I just tried Test Xbox Live Connection and on the last step the bar always fills up about 25% of the way and then fails. It recommends to me to try restarting the router, but I obviously cannot.

Are there any solutions for this? Like I said, I have the official wireless adapter and I do have a wireless router if a solution involves using those things. I run Windows 7 on my laptop if that makes any difference. If you need more details about my situation, I can gladly provide them. Th... Read more

Hello, I am trying to connect a Dell Inspiron Mini to my home wireless network. It was working last week with no problems. The status icon shows that it is connected to the network and gives an IP address. However, when I try and view a webpage I get "The page cannot be displayed". I have tried to "Diagnose Connection Problem" and it says there are no issues.

I have tried the ipconfig /release, ipconfig /flushdns, and ipconfic /renew and that spits out a new IP address but still no connection. Any help would be appreciated.

Go to the Control Panel/Internet Connections. Right click your Local Area Connection/Properties scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP-IP) hit Properties. Make sure Obtain an IP Address Automatically is checked as well as Obtain a DNS Server Address Automatically. Browse to C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc open the Hosts file with Notepad. Delete any lines after
127.0.0.1 localhost
Save the file. Do the ipconfig release, flushdns, and renew again.

Hi, i have two questions.
first: i did not find the bletooth device in this laptop, but i read on the internet, that it should be available in this model.
second and more important issue is, that the laptot is not able to connect to any network via Wi-Fi nor via cable.
It was ok in the past, but now it seems to find the wireless SSID fine and connect to it with the encryption key but it has trouble acquiring an IP address.
I am trying all wi-fi networks available in my neighbourhood and hotspot which i made from my phone and nothing works. Also as i mentioned, the connection it is not working via cable.
I have used this laptot in past also in foreign countries, for example in Vietnam or Cannada and everything worked fine.
Operation system is genuine seller - installed. Win xp service pack 3 home edition.
All other devices, like mobile phone, other laptops are able to connect to my wi-fi. So i don't think there is a problem with my Wi-fi network.
Thanks a lot for your help.

A:Dell Inspiron mini 10 can not connect to internet

You should check your device manager to see what bluetooth you may have installed, and if there are any devices that may need driver updates or are unrecognized by the system.

As for the IP issue. There are many things that can contribute to this. If you have run adware removal recently, some programs can actually remove or reconfigure components essential for network operation. winsockfix is a common tool used to fix this. Ive gone through it myself (while working on a family member's computer who was experiencing similar issues).

You may also try uninstalling and then reinstalling your network card in the device manager. Some people suggest checking your password or removing saved passwords, but seeing as you have already tested multiple networks, the issue is not that.

Please show the ipconfig /all so that we can see if you have ICS enabled.

You might want to try bridging the connections instead of using ICS.

Hey there!

I have a HP dv2000 laptop with XP SP2 and a Xbox. I would like to connect the xbox to the laptop (via ethernet cable) so I can use the laptops wireless signal to get Xbox Live. I understand there is a ICS way to do this. Can someone please tell me the step by step instructions on how to do this?

I know the pros and cons of using ICS.

Thanks!

I have a laptop with Windows 7 on it, and am trying to use it as a wireless middle point for my X-box. I have wireless in the house, but think that the $100 wireless adapter that Microsoft wants you to buy is ridiculous. So I'm trying this method.

From what I've read about, there are two different methods. One is to bridge my wireless and my LAN connection, or to just set my wireless connection to shared. The problem that I run into with both of these methods is my LAN ethernet connection automatically kicks off my wireless. If my LAN cable is disconnected, the internet works fine. But when I plug it in, my wireless is turned off, and I am unable to turn it back on.

Essentially, my question at the moment is, how can I make it so I can have both wireless and LAN connection?

Thanks so much for all help!

Hi there, welcome to the forums! Sorry we're just now getting to this..

There's a thread about this same issue going on here, but we haven't yet come up with anything. You might want to read through and subscribe to it just in case... we'd love to have you contribute too, if you can.

Ok, I've tried several times, wasted several hours on accomplishing this one thing, and I've ended up to no avail.

Firstly, there are other threads just like this, I've searched those up and none of those are similar to my scenario, or I've tried what other members have suggested, looked on the internet, but no success.

The story goes like This:

Last year I was in my rented home, router right next to the TV where my Xbox was, no problem in connecting there.

This year I moved to a new double-story home, and the layout is this

Downstairs:
One Netgear Wireless Router
One desktop PC connected via ethernet to that router

Upstairs
My Xbox 360
One desktop computer connected wirelessly to downstair's Netgear router
One laptop connected wirelessly to downstair's Netgear router

There are other computers and laptops but these are the ones which I'm after to try and get my connection through Xbox 360 going.

My laptop worked fine with the Xbox 360, ICS enabled, static IP addresses given so there's no conflicts, everything was fine...

Then I got a new desktop computer, also wireless, so how do I use that to connect to my 360? I have forgotten my original settings used for the laptop, I also tried re-connecting back with my laptop but the wireless screwed up and my details and information was lost...

On the laptop, I did several attempts, but the Xbox 360 fails the DNS test, but IP addresses are assigned and things are fine on the IP aspe... Read more

A:Wireless Laptop > Xbox Live?

Well, first off, you're going to have to enable ICS.

Take a look at this Microsoft ICS (Internet Connection Sharing tutorial.

Next, here's a page that describes using the XBOX with ICS: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/connecttolive/xbox360/connectionmethods/windowsics.htm

Hi all

I am trying to connect my xbox to the internet... I am doing this, correction, trying to do this via my laptop which is connected to my wireless adsl router. I have plugged the xbox into the ethernet socket and they connect. However i cannot get the internet connection that my wireless has to play nicely with the LAN...

MY xbox at the moment is saying "No DNS server addresses were received from the DHCP or PPPoE server"

I have no idea what that means - i am good with computers - just useless with networks!

Thanks

A:xbox 360 not connecting to live through laptop

Well, I've found that Windows 7 is somehow quite difficult to set up, maybe I didnt use Vista though. In XP, i didnt even have to bridge connection, just turned on the sharing function, plugged-in the ethernet cable and there you go. It worked the same way in windows 7 until recently it just doesnt work no more. So I tried bridge the connection, and set the ip on XBOX 360 manually. and it worked. funny thing is if i try to test my live connection, it'd connect flawlessly; however I still couldnt sign-in my live account though. I'm updating my dashboard atm, let see what gonna happen. cheers

So I've been trying to connect to Xbox live through my laptop, but I have a few problems:
- When my ethernet cable is connected, the Local Area Connection says its unidentified
- I've tried to use ICS to share the LAN to my Wireless Connection, but the 'Sharing' tab is gone (I did uninstall two other drivers, they were both Microsoft Virtual Miniport Adapters)
- I did use to have the 'Sharing' tab, but when I tried checking it and applying, it would give an error saying "an error occurred while internet connection sharing: (null)

A:Help with connecting to Xbox Live via Laptop

Welcome to TSG!

To be honest I'm not sure what it is you are trying to do here.
XBL is designed for the console, however you can log in to limited features from a computer or smart phone.
You can log into your XBox account at xbox.com . From there you can buy content, edit your avitar, and chat with friends.
There is even an xbox live app for phones. that will let you change your avitar and chat with friends.

What is it you are trying to do by connecting to XBL?

I am having a similar problem.

I too would like to connect to xbox live via my laptop and d-link Di624 wireless connection.

My D link I.P. is 192.168.0.1 (which is it's default)

I have tried changing this to 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.2.1, however when i do my internet connection is dropped. I think it may have something to do with some port forwarding i have done.

I suppose my question is what exactly do I change? the subnet, the router's i.p., are those the same thing (admittedly networking is not my field of expertise)? thank you for any help in advance.

From everything else i have read, I am under the impression that I am supposed to change the I.P. the router uses, which is available to me by opening my router via it's i.p. addy, and clicking on the LAN tab. Perhaps I'm simply trying to change the address in the wrong place as well?

I really have no idea. Please help.
-dismal

(the only spec i consider important in this case is that i'm running xp sp2)

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.

I've created a new thread for your issue here.

Note: You will need to post complete details of your configuration and your specific issue in this new thread for us to help you.

Hi, im posting this for my friend who has problems connecting his xbox 360 to xbox live through his laptop.
i have my own xbox 360 and i often use my girlfriends laptop to connect to xbox live and it all works fine, i simply bridge the connections and all is good no problems at all =]. but he called me up an asked me how to do it so i told him, and when he finished he could still not connect to xbox live. he gets an error saying that it cant find the ip address, but his laptop connect to the internet perfectly fine no problems at all.
really weird, he uses the xbox 360 ethernet wire and a bt home hub modem. ive read on some other forums that you need a cross over cable but i know thats not true because i use the cable perfectly fine.

the only thing i can think of is maybe that he is useing xp and my gf is vista? maybe there is something different to do on xp?
oh and i tried to find the ics but couldnt find it in the wireless connect =/

please help cuz i wana play gears of war 2 and other cool games with him D=!!!.

if you need any more info just ask!

I travel alot so to break up the boredom at the hotels i like to play on my xbox what would make it a whole lot more fun would be to play with my friends online. Problem is that my xbox does not have built in wifi and even with a wifi adapter hotel internet portals prevent from connecting automatically to internet without a browser. I have watched some video on youtube with different methods of using a laptop to connect via ethernet to your xbox and share the internet connection from the laptop. Is there a method that works with Vista? I keep getting a unable to get an ip address error on the xbox and not sure as to what to do. What do you guys suggest i try?

A:Xbox Live through a laptop, using internet sharing

Not too sure it would work if you are paying for the wifi connection to the internet there.

What you are looking to do is Internet Sharing Connection (ICS) which the Help section should have, but if the hotel is using the same networking scheme, then it may be a little difficult.

Having said that, they may not be allowing any other internet traffic other than web browsing because of speed limitations. Check with the hotel staff.

Just get a router. Did not need any of the IPConfig stuff. Even if you have "Bridged" the connections. Only thing that could be at fault would be Internet Security or Firewall software.

Hello, I would like to share my wireless connection off my laptop with my xbox360 so I can go online without having to drag a cable through the whole house.

But when I try and change the network settings to allowing my wireless connection to be shared I get : "An error occured while ICS was being enabled. ICS cannot be enabled. A LAN connection is already configured with the IP address that is required for automatic IP Adressing."

I tried playing around with it and changing the IPs that are given out by my D-Link router to 192.168.0.245 - 192.168.0.254, but had no luck.

Laptop:
OS: Windows XP

Router: D-Link DIR-625

and an unmodded xbox360. If more information is needed feel free to ask..

Thanks in advance.

hi all, i heard there's an option to connect a pc to the xbox and by doing so, i can use it for xbox live service, and for media streaming.
i use win xp sp2.
i can't connect the xbox360 directly to the router because the router is too far. i connected the laptop (which has wireless network adapter) to the xbox using the ETHERNET cable that comes with the xbox360.

i tried several techniques without success : using bridge, and using ICS.
the internet on the laptop itself works fine, and i can share directories with the host computer.

i saw in sme tutorials, that i should turn the ICS on the advanced tab of the "wireless connection", but it doesn't show at all. all i can see is the firewall options. when i enter the advanced tab of the net adapter, i can turn on/off the ICS, but this doesn't show in the advanced tab of the connection named "wireless internet connection". in the xbox360 i use the automatic method, and it says it identifies the cable, but it doesn't get any IP address at all. the network is using WEP security, i don't know if it means something.

how can i solve the problem and connect between the laptop and the console (without buying the 100$ wireless thingy)

thank you

Ok so I've been at this all day with no solution to my problem!!

My set up is

USB dongle(Huawei e173) in my laptop (connected to GiffGaff-which runs on o2 network)
Xbox Connected to laptop via Ethernet
Then I'm sharing the USB internet with the Ethernet using ICS.

The problem I've having is that the Ethernet is taking a long time to identify and then returns a state of 'unidentified network' when I try and connect laptop to the Xbox.

I had been connecting to Xbox Live for months tethering from my android and bridging connections without problems until my phone provider blocked tethering.

Anybody any ideas what the problem might be??

I currently use drivers from 2008:

Driver Version 4.176.75.21 - 10/1/2008

for my Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card.

Whenever I run Microsoft Update it tells me to upgrade to the latest drivers, however, with the newest drivers I experience a SIGNIFICANT drop in throughput- something like from 108 mbps with my current setup to 1-15 mbps with the "updated" drivers.

I'd like to have the most up to date driver, but do not want to limit my Wifi bandwidth either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated-- all my system info *should* be in my profile.

PS I'm a brand new user, so I apologize if this is not a well written post!

A:Updated Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card Worse Connect

If the new driver causes problems and the old one works fine, best to just stick with the old driver. Typically you only need to update your drivers if you are experiencing problems or the new driver adds some functionality. Otherwise it is better to just leave well enough alone. If is listed as an important update, right-click the update and hide it.

If you are set on updating, you can try downloading the driver from the Dell website (link below) and uninstalling the old driver prior to installing the new driver. You can also look at the fixes and enhancements listed on the Dell site to determine if you really need it.

We recently moved to a new house and once we did, my desktop started having connectivity issues. Eventually they became so bad, I was getting less than 1 mbps on speedtest.net on my desktop, though getting the appropriate 20 mbps on everything else. I assumed my router wasn't sufficient for our new house so I replaced that and it did not improve. So I assumed the modem from the cable company that was 7 years old needed to be replaced, so I bought a new modem. Still no improvement. So I changed the wireless adapter in my computer, which didn't improve the connection either. Eventually, I figured it must be an issue with the computer and replaced the motherboard. When that still didn't work, I really got fed up and bought a brand new computer, an Alienware X51, fully decked out. It arrived today, I plugged it in, and I'm having the exact same connectivity problems. Still getting the 20 mbps on my laptop right next to the desktop, but no matter what I try, I cannot get the desktop (which is brand new, yet showing the same problem) to connect. I called Time Warner, and everything looked good on their side, which is confirmed with the laptop and other devices working fine.

I'm at a loss. I've replaced absolutely every piece of equipment, yet cannot get a decent connection. After changing the Dlink-857 router channel from 1 to 11, I got a connection on the desktop, actually achieving 14 mbps, the best in a while, but two hours later, now it won't... Read more

Hello,

I am trying to get a Bose Soundlink Mini to connect to a Dell Latitude E7450 running Win 7 Pro SP1. I am 3 feet from the laptop.

The Bose device shows up under Devices and Printers. When I click on Troubleshoot, I receive the message "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem." I have uninstalled the device and rebooted.

It does not show up under Sound/Playback/Devices.

I tried the install as admin. I have verified that I have all the latest updates from Dell.

The Bose device does not have its own driver. I contacted Bose tech support and they verified that I have tried to install it correctly. I can connect (via Bluetooth) this Bose unit to my home computer. I followed their instructions to reset the Bose device to factory settings.

I can connect my Android phone to this laptop via Bluetooth.

My father is looking to buy a new laptop. He wants something which is very light. He is currently looking at Dell Inspiron Mini 12.The only downside with this laptop is that it has only 1 GB RAM and it doesn't have any optical drive. What is your opinion about the Intel Atom Z530 processo provided in this laptop?

The laptop will be mainly used for viewing PPT presentations, some internet surfing, Word processing, etc.

Is the above laptop a good choice? What are the other options for him in the lightweight laptops range? His budget is around $650 (35000 INR).

Edit: Please mention the price of the laptop(s) you recommend.

Samsung NC10 (top rated)

Neither have a CD drive but both are superb. You can always add a slimline external CD/DVD drive later powered by a USB port. If lightweight is paramount it's about the only way to go.

I personally have the Advent 4211c and it will do all you say including playing videos and DVD's with no problems. Both these Netbooks have the Intel Atom processor and both are highly recommended. They are not short on extras either, check them out via Google.

Hello my router is located downstairs in the corridor and has been working fine until today. The strange thing is my dads windows 8 laptop wont connect to the wireless connection in the living room which is next to the corridor (where the router is located), which is strange because its close by so should connect with ease. But As soon as I go up stairs with his laptop the connection is great with no errors at all. So at the moment can only go online upstairs even though its further away from the router

Another strange thing is, I usually play on the xbox one in my bedroom connecting normal which is also upstairs. Well earlier I decided to take my xbox down stairs in the living room(next to the corridor again where the router is), but my xbox one couldn't find my router/connect at all. So I brought i back and low and behold its back working normal again in bedroom(up stairs)

Have I got some sort of range block on my router or something. My iphone, ipad and macbook pro all work fine downstairs but no windows products do

Cheers. Hoping to get this sorted.

Modified Xbox Consoles Banned From Xbox Live
(November 11 & 12, 2009)

In an attempt to combat piracy, Microsoft is permanently banning modified Xbox consoles from accessing Xbox Live. The ban also applies to gamers who have played games downloaded in violation of copyright laws. The ban will affect between 600,000 and one million players.

Users can recover their online profiles if they purchase another console. The plan raises concerns because it is the console rather than the player that is banned, so the people who purchase the devices second hand could find themselves unable to access Xbox live.

Hello all! New member here with a new problem.

I bought a Xbox specifically just so I can play with my brother on different games via Xbox live. The first month was great, it worked well and we never got disconnected or lag. After that month... randomly Xbox live would disconnect out of the blue. After a week, it started were it disconnects every 15 minutes.

So after trying to fix it for 4 months, I still have had no luck. My router is a Linksys BEFW11S4 V4. I see no option to turn on UPNP. If anyone could please help me with this......... that would be awesome.

Thanks all!

-Live2bcool
EDIT: I forgot to say this also happens with Windows Live. Singing into that while my brother is on the Xbox still disconnects us.

A:Laptop (Win7 Dell Inspiron 1525) won't connect to desktop (XP Dell) wireless router

Sometimes, you need to replace the router.
Sometimes, you can call your service provider and ask them to take a look on line to see if the subscription needs to be refreshed.
But often, all that is needed (despite the fact that it is a lot of work) is to uninstall your existing system, then reboot, and reinstall everything.
You might also find success by looking at your device manager in Windows to see if you have any grey, red, or yellow flags by any related device. That may show you have a permanent hardware failure if you cannot restore it, then you are off to the store or your provider for a new cable modem or router.

Ok so I had been using the Xbox App for the last couple weeks with the only issue being that the party chat doesn't work. Yesterday I went on to play and connect to device, but my Xbox is not showing up to connect to. The strange thing is, my friend who rents out my downstairs has an Xbox and I can see that. I have not changed anything, any ideas how I can get the Xbox to show up? I have the streaming enabled on the Xbox(because I had been using it before and both my PC and Xbox are hard-wired to my router.

I have tried the following:

-Power cycled my Xbox

-Power cycled Router

-Reset my Router to default settings

-Restarted my PC

-uninstalled and then reinstalled the Xbox App on Win 10

-called Windows support for Xbox App and they had me clear some data on the Xbox

.......still nothing. What the heck is going on that is just stopped showing up?! seems like the Xbox has issues if that wont show up but my friends does... Thoughts?

They are not trying to connect to YOUR Xbox but to Xbox online service to keep and retrieve game specific data.

All Xbox Games on Windows 8 and Windows RT will have Xbox achievements, and many will also take advantage of other Xbox features, including leaderboards, multiplayer modes, connecting with friends and more.

Hey,

I use a @Hotmail.com address to log into Windows 8. That way I get easy access to Skydrive and Contacts. I have connected my Facebook account and have access to that as well.

I use Another @live.se address to log into my Xbox account and onto my Xbox.

Somehow it would seem I can not use my Xbox Live ID to activate the Xbox Live and Xbox Companion Apps in Metro while logged in with my @Hotmail account.

I would like the possibility to access Xbox features in the same way I access my Facebook features.

Any know way to fix this yet? Any known fixes coming up?

A:Xbox Companion/Live games with different Live-ID?

I don't think that can work in Windows 8 at the moment...

The only way would be to use the live.se account as your main Microsoft account to access Xbox Live, or log out of the Hotmail Microsoft account, manually add them in for the apps you need with it, and use the live for the rest.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop that won't connect to my network all of a sudden. When I click on my wireless network, the messge shows that it is connected and the signal strength is excellent.

When I look in the Wireless Connection Status, the General tab shows I am connected at 54.0 Mbps and the signal strength is excellent (all 5 bars are green).

The Support tab gives the address type as "Assigned by DHCP" whatever that means. I have an IP address, subnet mask and Default gateway that all look fine.

When I open the Wireless Connection properties it tells me I connect using the DELL wireless 1394LAN MiniCard, and that the connection uses the following items: Client for Microsoft networks, File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, QoS Packet Scheduler, Network Monitor Driver,Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). When I click "configure" I get a message that says" This device is working properly. If you are having problems with this device click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter."

DUH--I cannot connect to the network so the troubleshooter doesn't work. When I try the other paths, nothing else works either.

I tried to reinstall from the disc and got a message saying I have the latest driver.

I have clicked and tracked everything and cannot get the computer to pick up the connection.

Can anyone help???

So I connected my Dell laptop to my LG LCD TV for the first time via an HDMI to HDMI cable, and it worked great. The next time I attempted to do this, my TV displayed "no signal" on every hdmi input. I've tried updating drivers and using the tool that is partnered with my graphics card to appoint the TV as the primary monitor, but I've gotten nothing.

Both the laptop and TV recognize that the HDMI cable has been inserted, but it won't show me a picture or give off any sound. Help!

I am referencing a 3 yr old Dell Inspiron 3520. It's running on Windows 10.
The laptop was working fine, if not a little patchy yesterday, I closed it, then opened it up about 20 minutes later and suddenly it wouldn't connect to the internet.
On the bottom bar, the Wi-Fi connection symbol has an exclamation point in an orange triangle. When that is clicked, the window looks as though it is connected, except under the connection name it says "No Internet."
This also happens when I connect it to an Ethernet cord.
I've run all the diagnostic tests I can find within the laptop and various online forums, but to no avail. I've also disabled and then enabled the adapters for both the Ethernet and Wi-Fi. I've restarted the laptop multiple times. I've run diagnostic tests within internet connections, shared folders, home group, network adapter and incoming connections. None seem to have any errors or issues. (Any found were fixed then run again and are clear and device restarted). I can't check for updates, as I can't connect to the internet.
I've tried Google Chrome, Safari and Internet Explorer, none of which work. The Wi-Fi is working perfectly with several other devices, (PC, PS3&4, XBox, iPod, Android, etc). But just for safety sake the router has been reset several times.
Dell won't offer any free tech support because it is outside of the warrantee and I've run out of options!!
Please help!! Thanks!

I've been cleaning up a friends Dell Inspiron N7010 Win7 64bit laptop. The main problems were an unwanted copy of Chrome pounding the hard drive and loads of malware (not viruses). I was in the process of deleting unneeded programs (like Java) when I realized the network had quit working - via wireless or ethernet.

I get an IP address and everything else expected when I do ipconfig /all but I can't connect to anything including my router via IP address. Firefox says Server not found. It's a problem with my network - works fine from other devices. I've tried everything I can think of including a system restore to an earlier time, sfc /scannow and reset IP stack.

Just ran Hijackthis and found something interesting. There was a line that said: broken internet access because of lsp provider c:\users\caity\appdata\local\desktoptemperature\dtwxsvc.dll missing.

desktoptemperature was one of the programs that I got rid of. I tried to do it in control panel but it asked me to close about 8 programs first including Norton. This was not possible so I manually deleted the program everywhere I could find it.

Any idea how I can fix this issue?

A:Dell Laptop will not connect to any internet

it maybe a firewall blocking that can happen suddenly - if you have a time trial installed at some point in the past or even supplied with the PC
I think Dell use Mcafee - how to remove if this is the case is below

anyway

would you post the following information
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste
------------------------------------------------------------------------
