Q: [SOLVED] Funny accident

Hi guys,I wanted to split 8 gb file but instead of MBs I selected bytes so basically now I have alot of 4.1 kb files so I would appreciate if you could tell me how I can delete all the files quickly because manually deleting all the files is slow and I have some other stuff to do.

A: [SOLVED] Funny accident

In Computer select the first file scroll down the list to the last file you want to delete and press the Shift key and click on the last file press delete to send them to the recycle bin or hold the Shift key and press delete to permanently delete them.

a few days ago, I went to the "safely remove hardware" icon and clicked "stop" on the USB Port option.

Today, when I tried to get photos onto my comp by inserting the memory chip into the SD/mini/MMC/RS and the computer wouldn't reconize it. I went to my computer and checked to see if the icons, and none were there.

I tried restarting my comp, but that didn't help.

How do I retrieve the hardware?

A:[SOLVED] Accident

Remove the SD/mini/MMC/RS docking bay and the reinsert it into your PC, this is assuming that the device you inserted the memory chip into is connected through USB.

My question reguarding a potential command prompt error.

I recently installed a game that was ment to be played only on Windows xp.
The problem was since vista was unable to run it, i decided to look around forums to see if there was anything i can do to fix this.

I finaly found a command that bypassed the "Data Execution prevention"
Known as:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff

I inserted it in the command prompt and pressed enter.
The game still wouldnt run.
Finally i decided to just uninstall it.

Moments later, i tried running yahoo messenger.
I recieved a message saying "To help protect your computer, Data execution prevention has closed Yahoo messenger.

Not only Messenger but a few other programs as well.

Is there a way to fix this back to normal?

*Ive already tried using:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOn

*Shut down, and start up again.

I accidently deleted the Administrator file and need to know how to get it back where the Owner file is. I moved the file from the Recycle bin by click and hold and moved to desktop. I know I should have restored. Now it has the desktop as its routing (I can't think what else to call it). I can now log on if the error message that says "microsoft cannot log on" stays on the screen long enough to click OK. If the screen does not stay the computer trys to boot up (I guess) but will not do anything until the screen times out and I press a key; than the "microsoft cannot log on" error message will come up and I click OK. Than a screen appears that shows the Owner and I click on it and every thing works all right. I would apprciate any help. Let me know if I need to explain more.

I'm far from a computer expert, other than games I don't know much at all.

I was trying to get a file for a game to work so I turned to google for help, It looks like I've gone onto something I shouldn't have.

The instruction on the website was to click start and type "Shell32.dll" into the search box.
The next instruction was to open it with Notepad, which I did... The box saying something like "always open using this program" was ticked.

After spending time googling what I'd just done it seems like that was a huge mistake, I have no idea how to change it back to its original state.
So far everything seems to be fine but from what I read on another site the shell32.dll file has something to do with the start up so I haven't turned my laptop off yet.

Hi I'm new here . I use Microsoft Windows XP 2005 Media Center edition.

And I have a problem. Quite recently I was using the msconfig to manage startup programs and services. I had to temporarily diasble all start up programs, and right after (no restart) i went to the services tab. I wanted to check the "hide all ms services" but accidentally i clicked on "disable all services." msconfig froze, so ended it and started it again. I went on the service tab and most of the services were gone (all essential & virusscan stayed).

Then I restarted it, and windows asked me to reactivate my account. I cliked on (do it through internet" and tried it. It didnt work. It said that there was no internet. I clicked on "remind me later" and the desktop loaded. My theme is now the classic theme! so i tried to change the theme and the the "blue/silver/olive" themes weren't there. So then i went to the help topics and it said "please run the help service" i did not know what this meant. So i thought that i should do system restore, but i couldn't! There was only one save point, and that was from when i just accessed system restore during this situation.

So then i tried putting in my wireless adapter again. Nothing. I checked the device manager and nothing was there! I tried to reinstall the drivers but nothing worked. And almost every usb device (except my mouse/keyboard and printer) didnt start anything. The "fou... Read more

With the Nvidia Forceware, I accidently changed the screen refresh rate of my desktop to 75. As soon as I did it, my LCD monitor just went black, and said "No Signal". I can see that the computer is still working, because I managed to get it to restart by guesswork and the help of the windows key, but theres no input going to the monitor!
I'm running Windows XP Media Centre

A:Solved: I changed my screen refresh rate by accident!

Boot to Safe Mode or Enable VGA mode and see if that will let you set the refresh rate back to what your LCD will handle.

The link downloads and exe and if you open it...well.

A:Solved: My icons are funny

Scott, Start your computer in SAFE mode then restart it in Normal mode. This will rebuild the iconcache.db file and may correct the problem.

You could also download Tweak UI at the link below. After you install it you'll find it in Start>Programs>Powertoys for Windows XP>Tweak UI. Open it and under Repair then choose Rebuild Icons.

BACKGROUND: Sooo, I have windows XP on this machine. On my other machine i have linux which I'm trying to get rid of. My friend sent me a floppy killdisk and told me to run the program to set it up.

PROBLEM: The first screen comes up and tells you to click on start and then a new pop-up comes and says "Bootable Floppy Creator Error" in the title bar and "Error locking drive" in the actual window. This gives me no explanation as to what it is or what to do about it.

QUESTIONS: What is this error? Does it pertain to my floppy disk, drive, OS etc? and most importantly, How can i get rid of it and run my setup?

Hello

My PC is a AMD 1.2 with 1 gig ram and a 80 gig western digital harddrive running
Windows XP SP2 Pro. My old hard drive died the other day so I implemented my sneacky plan of switching to my back up hardrive. However all dod not go as planned since the move of all the programs seems to have failed, sigh, SO I fix that by dumping all the programs and starting a new. However by yesterday it appeared that I have something on the computer I am running Lava and Avg and Lava said that I had a Worm. This morning I spent the last four hours trying to run lava and avg but no dice. I then came on here and read the sticky and have downloaded a bunch of stuff, hijack and spywareblocker (i think). I will enter the HIjack log in next post>

I get popups, my start page gets changed, I get weird .dll's in my System32 folder, I run CWShredder and it always removes CWS.Bootconf, then I run it again and it removes it again. I remove the bad things from the HJT log, and they come back. I haev been running PestPatrol, XoftSpy, and NoAdware, as well as having scanned my computer several times for viruses with AVG. On top of all of that, the recycle bin appears full, but when I open it there is nothing in it, and when I right click it to empty it it says "Are you sure you want to delete these 27 files" and I click yes and it makes the noise that it empties it, but the icon still says its full and when i do it again it still says there are 27 files in it. Also, for some reason but Temporary Internet Files folder has changes from Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files to Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files. Also in the Temp directory are History and Cookies, although the History and Cookies folders also appear where they are supposed to be. Below is my HJT Log, any help whatsoever would be appreciated.

I wrote a stored procedure that parsed ok and I was able to create it in my database, but when I go to create it in another database I get an error. Then I go back to mine and if I was to try and re-create it I get an error now... but if parses fine??? Must be something wrong with my syntax.

I reduced the stored procedure down to the essentials so you can see what part errors out. I'm sure it's somthing with my set syntax:
Code:
declare
@PathFileName varchar(100)

-- Create temp table for bulk insert from list
CREATE TABLE #ImportTemp
(Player_ID varchar(30) , CompAdjusted varchar(30) , Comment varchar(30))

-- Path to list file cannot be more than 2000 characters
DECLARE @SQL varchar(2000)
SET @SQL = "BULK INSERT #ImportTemp FROM '" + @PathFileName + "' WITH (FIELDTERMINATOR = ',', ROWTERMINATOR = '\n')"
As I said, it will parse with no problem, but upon running it, I get this error message:

Server: Msg 207, Level 16, State 3, Line 11
Invalid column name 'BULK INSERT #ImportTemp FROM ''.
Server: Msg 207, Level 16, State 1, Line 11
Invalid column name '' WITH (FIELDTERMINATOR = ',', ROWTERMINATOR = '\n')'.

any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks

Hey guys, just joined and hope you can help me out a little with my conundrum.

I'm currently at university and on my res each room is given an ethernet port. Which I'm assuming is coming from a router in my building and all buildings are interconnected with fiber. The university network also has somehow set it up so that if you were to plug a hub into your port in your room, that hub wouldn't not work as the DHCP will only allow one room port one IP address. Thats about as much as I know about the university network.

So in my room I've found myself an older Belkin 54g wireless router that is routing from the university assigned IP to the Wireless and cabled networks. The problem we are having is that websites are loading without all the CSS information on them, so they look like just very simple HTML(pictures below) and some websites are not able to load (One we have found is engadget). The problem of not the entire website loading can be usually fixed with a refresh of the page, sometimes once someones 3 times will do it. Not all web sites have the problem, two noted ones that keep suffering are Youtube and This forum. However all theses problems can be fixed if the router is bypassed and a computer is connected directly to the wall port.

So we checked browsers, it does it in all browsers, chrome, IE, Firefox. So we assume it has to be the router. So we hard reset the router and software reset a couple of times and no change. So we grabbed another rout... Read more

The problem I'm having seems to be isolated to explorer.exe, that is that when I start the computer, not everything that is supposed to start does. For instance, the small, two monitor icon that denotes connectivity in the bottom right of the screen does not come up, and until this happens (and nothing in particular seems to cause it to happen, but rather it's suddenly "wakes up" at random) there are a number of things I cannot do: I can't use the start menu, for instance. I can't right click on anything or else Explorer locks up. Again, no specific sequence seems to be the cause of the computer snapping out of it, sometimes it doesn't do it at all. In safe mode, this problem typically does not occur, but in order to troubleshoot the possible cause I have had to go into regular mode in order to uninstall some recently installed programs. However, I have uninstalled everything I can think of that I have installed lately, and still every time I start the computer, I have this problem at least for several minutes while I perform this task or other trying to get Explorer to activate properly.

I have conducted CHKDSK, ScanDisk, a full virus, spyware, ad aware sweep, to include using Windows washer to get rid of all temporary files. I have used tuneup to clean up as well as defrag the registry. I have no unnecessary or on the identified programs starting at startup (which I checked using MS config). Short of reinstalling Windows (which I would li... Read more

I don't have a specific solution for you, but I can point you in the right direction. About a year and a half ago I had the same problem. I ran spyware and virus checks, defragged, and ran scandisk....but still had the problems. I remember having to download a program called HiJackThis which ran a scan of my pc and what processes were running as my pc booted up. I then posted the scan results on a forum and some techs told me what to do. The problem was some background activex controls running through IE. I hope this at least gets you started.

I had or have a problem with a trojan or virus. It installed extra toolbars and other nasty stuff the other day. I managed to run Ad-Aware SE in safe-mode and cleaned allot of the stuff, Norton found nothing, Spybot SD freezes up, none of my registry cleaners will run (freeze up, even in safe mode), used a few online scanners and came up clean. I found one registry key that acts funny and will freeze up regedit just by high lighting it (have to use task manager to end process):
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserAssist\{75048700-EF1F-11D0-9888-006097DEACF9}\Count
Computer also freezes every now and then for about 30 seconds and then is fine (started with the above problem).

Hey everyone - been a while since I posted - but I read quite often.
My problem is this: A while back I used a Belkin KVM switch to connect my regular dekstop (Dell Dimension 2400 - WinXP Pro) to a second CPU, same brand and model. The problem arrose when I left for the weekend, and returned on Monday to hear a loud screetching noise coming from my office.
The noise was some type of alarm on the KVM, and it had that funny electronic burnt smell coming from somewhere. I unplugged it from my primary computer and it kept going off, then stopped when I unplugged it from CPU#2. I narrowed down the smell to the KVM switch itself, and also the back of CPU#2. Because of my work schedule I just recently explored connecting them together again, but when I plugged the KVM into CPU#2, the alarm immediately sounded.
So - I plugged my keyboard and mouse (both ps2) directly into CPU#2, and they do not work. The smell is pretty much gone now, but I summize that the ports in the CPU#2 are burned out. Is there any way to replace them.
Machine boots fine and all that, but because I cannot control the mouse or get any key functions I cannot run any utilities to test them.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
JR

Hello.
I just spent a while updating my computer to service pack 3 and getting other critical updates (I have to do it manually and haven't bothered for some time). Now, when I start up firefox and do a google search, I noticed that there's something called Wikisearch (which I don't really get) is on but I can turn it off with the Greasemonkey app. However, now when there's a list of things from the search result, where before I would click on the titles of the search results and it would take me to the page, now I click on something and the url says "find-www.net/?q=*whatever I'm searching*" and it just reroutes me to some random pages. I have to copy and paste the url under the title of my search results to get where I need to go. It does the same for when Wikisearch is off or on. Can anyone explain? Thanks!

Steve

We are working in network and have our contact folder logged on the server. There are 5 PC linked to the server. All the contacts are present as we can locate them using a manual search but when we try to search for a specific contact the reply is always “No Items Found”. I have tried to do a normal search as well as advanced search to no avail. This function was working fine until recently even though no new software or hardware has been installed. I have checked the configuration on the folder and permission is given at an owner level to all users, and the problem exists with all users.

I have come to the conclusion that when we perform the search the views change, as i have tried to copy the whole folder and there appears to be no contacts in the new folder however on the bottom left hand corner there are the same amount of contacts listed.....(see screen shots)

If before i run a search it is in a certain view is it normal for it to change views during the search and not be able to display the search results?

I have checked in permissions and all the PCs have owner level to the public folders.

anybody have any ideas on how to solve this?

not sure if this is the right place to post.....

A:Solved: public folders in outlook acting funny....any body know why?

Is it set up as a searchable address list within Outlook? Open your address book and go to Tools > Options and have it listed under the list of address lists to use for Outlook. I am not sure how public folders work in this capacity.

Here's a list. If the free ones don't see anything, forget the pay ones. I know Pandora is still around and has updated recovery software. Hello-I have a windows xp (version 2002) Asus EeePC and I think I might have downloaded a virus accidentally whilst on a music radio website. I found that it messed up my internet browser and it would directly open to a website called "partner12.mydomainadvisor.com" Please advise what I should do to clean this up! I have changed the default from the wierd website to "google.com" but it still will default to this website "partner12..." if the domain name does not exist. i used to have norton antivirus but the subscription ran out and i did not renew...I know I should probably get something to protect my computer as well from now on. Thank you

Hi all,

I'm not pc savvy at all so this message comes with a tad bit of panic!

My mother accidently hit "log off" instead of restart using windows XP. Now she gets a blue screen that says "Welcome" on the left and my family's name with a chess board icon on the right. There's a button on the bottom that says "turn off family computer". We cannot get to the desk top no matter what we try. We can only shut it down. We think she hit log off-- since it's a family computer we never use this function. Can anyone tell me how to get back to the desktop? (she's quite upset because we're not sure what happened exactly, and not sure what to do)

ANY help or suggests are welcome! Thanks much!

When I was reformatting my computer i deleted a part of my drive that i think was really important. It was drive E:. After the reformatting I tried to go on the internet. I tried to go on wireless but, I didn't have a wireless internet icon for my wireless card so I plugged it in. Still i could not go on the Internet. Then I tried to open some programs and half of them would load the others I would get error reports from.
I think the reason it doesn't work is because of the drive I accidently deleted. Is there any way that I could get the data back without taking it to a repair shop? Thanks for any help. Oh and I cant put my laptop on standby either.

I was in regedit trying to delete an instant savings app that had found its way into my computer. I believe i was in Local_Users and i know i went to the software folder. I accidentally deleted the software folder and I couldnt use any programs. I couldnt use a system restore because it gave me an error so i decided to reboot and go into safe mode and do it there but it didnt work. I have been trying to figure all of this out with windows technicians and didnt get anywhere. I cant do anything on my broken computer because when i boot it up, it skips the boot menu and i cant get it into safe mode or anything. it goes straight to the lock screen and I cant read any texts and can only put in my password. After I put in the password, it gives me a black screen for a few seconds with a blue spinning wheel on my mouse and it goes back to the lock screen. My idea was to load the cd I have with the win8 pro back onto my computer and that would reset the registry but I dont know how to do this because I cant do any functions on my pc at the moment. any help would be great. Sorry for all the bad writing, I am trying to finish a lot of homework and figure out this problem at the same time.

Thank you,

I recently built the computer shown in my specs. I didn't get to joining the existing homegroup quick enough. My wife needed files from one of the homegroup laptops. Having not joined, my wife attempted it but ended up creating a new homegroup on the new build. When I go into homegroup (start menu) I don't have the option to join a homegroup, nor do I have one to leave the homegroup.

So how do I delete the new homegroup created, so I can join my established group?

A:New homegroup created by accident

What you need to do is remove each computer from the new homegroup.

Once you've done that, the homegroup will no longer exist, leaving you free to rejoin your original homegroup.

There is a backup copy in C:\Windows\System32\dllcache

most of the time it is compressed in this folder.

Here is a copy of it from my XP installation (uncompressed)
See attached
You will need a XP install CD and use recovery environment to copy the file to the proper place, or use an Ubuntu boot CD to do it.

Here is an article on using a Ubuntu CD to copy data off an unbootable windows PC, one could also use it to copy a file to a Windows folder.

I was curious as Malwarebytes, MSE, and even ESET didn't find anything like this, while SUPERAntiSpyware found adware but not these, though I'm not too sure: but I brought up start task manager and looked under processes and found two that weren't under my user name (just so you know, under "users" it's just me), and after looking them up on google, learned that they might be trojans. They are: csrss.exe, and winlogon.exe. Well, that last one isn't really a trojan, but wasn't under my user name so I brought it up here just in case.

I don't want to get in trouble, as I need to do some accounting-related stuff soon n my comp., so I need to know if they are trojans or not, and if they are, how to get rid of them right away. Any ideas, and could there be more? (Again, Malwarebytes, MSE, SUPERAnti and ESET didn't pick this up)

Hello,

While I accomplished so much successfully setting up my computer in AHCI earlier, I now blew it all.

I had the SMART command failure error with my SSD, and received a new BIOS from my motherboard manufacturer. I applied it and "Loaded Optimized Defaults" in the BIOS as your supposed to. Stupid me, that means the motherboard activates IDE mode, but I installed Windows in AHCI mode.

So... I switched it back to AHCI after booting into IDE by accident and now I'm getting MBR Error. Is there any way to repair this? I have been trying to repair it through the Windows Install disk, using bootsec & command prompt to no avail.

Likely because where the screen pops up that says: "Use recovery tools that can help fix problems starting Windows. Select an operating system to repair" There's no option to select. So I elected to "Load Drivers" using iaAHCI.inf [Intel ICH10R] from the Intel RST installer (I extracted it on my Laptop). It still doesn't recognize it.
-->This is all pertaining to image 3. on the guide on the link HERE

If I HAVE to install Windows again, I have 2 storage drives installed as well, do I take them out to prevent them from being formatted? They are holding My Documents/My Pictures/My Music/My Videos etc.

Thanks!

A:MBR Error, After Booting in IDE (Accident)

You shouldn't have to reinstall, have a look at this tutorial at the link below, it shows how to enable AHCI after the OS has been installed and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

Hello, I recently purchased Dell XPS 8700 that came with a 2tb harddive formatted with GPT. The computer came with Windows 8, and I wanted to downgrade to Windows 7. However the windows installer wouldn't install on any of the current partitions, so I deleted every partition with gParted and proceeded to install Windows 7 successfully onto the one giant partition. Since I deleted all the GPT partition information (Idiotically), I am unable to make more partitions and dual boot.

So my questions are: Is my harddrive as of right now in MBR or GPT? And how would I add the GPT partitions back, as in the primary and secondary GPT headers?

Edit: I am attempting to dual boot with Xubuntu 14.04 and Windows 7 Professional, both 64bit and the computer has the UEFI, I think. Am I better off using MBR or GPT to dual boot? I only want two OS's and a shared data partition.

A:Deleted all the GPT Partitions by accident

Quote:

Deleting all GPT partitions is a recommended step to downgrade "Windows 8" as "Windows 7" is known to not much liking GPT based UEFI boot mode. Although "Win 7" 64 bit edition may boot from a GPT disk, i prefer MBR partitioning especially in case of dual booting with Linux. The only mistake you made here is not to partition the disk at the time of install. Fortunately you can split the single large "C" partition to two or three small partitions with the help of "Partition Wizard" free edition.

Hi.

I've read that the serial key is legal for either version, 32-bit or 64-bit, but the DVD I got only has 32-bit version.

How can I get a new DVD with the 64-bit version, as I got 8 gigs of ram and I can't use them.

I bought and built the computer myself and made a mistake when I ordered Windows, and asked for 32-bit because I was scared of compatibility, and I opened and installed it already, so I can't take it back.

Hi,
I was going to check if my external HDD needed to be defragged. I was in the wee window that asks about checking the disk for errors and decided to do that, there's always two options, one is always automatically ticked and there's another one that said something about find and attempt to restore corrupt files, that is never ticked and I never choose it, until today. All I noticed was it found 1024 files, and I clicked proceed, it processed or fixed etc and i went back to the pc after an hour and decided just to cancel as it seemed to be stuck at 2025 files checked.
Once i clicked cancel I couldn't get access to my external HDD and when I right on 'My Computer' it says it's NTFS files and is full but windows can't get access to it, i thought i'd try restoring it and i can see that out of the 1TB I have used 330GB which is what my disk was like before my mistake.
as with most people I have all my most important stuff saved there away from my C drive.
Ok, sorry for waffling on, can anyone tell me if I am able to restore my drive back to what it was (Would that have been FAT32 files?)

I have a 2TB external hard drive and a 1TB external hard drive.
I got a new 2TB internal hard drive and was installing Windows on it.
On the screen where it showed the connected drives, I stupidly forgot the 2 external drives were still connected. I thought somehow it was breaking up the new 2TB internal drive into 3 separate partitions. I clicked on the two external drives and deleted the partitions because I thought it would merge them. I DID NOT format luckily.
I am in the middle of running the Analyzer using TestDisk on the 2TB external. Since it is a 2TB hard drive, it is analyzing about 10% of the disk per day. So I guess it will take 10 days to finish. Small price to pay if I can recover all the data on these drives. One has all our home movies and photos and the other has all our scanned documents in PDF format. Sigh.
I am wondering if I am doing this the right way with TestDisk? Is there a faster way? When I deleted the partitions, the process took less than a second. The drives were partitioned to used 100% of the drive space. I read the page TestDisk Step By Step but still not sure if there isn't an easier way for my particular blunder. Nothing should be corrupted. Just deleted.
Thank you!

Yes it should be faster. I thought there were two levels to the restore deleted partitions and only the deeper level involves scanning the surface for old deleted partitions.

By Accident I Unplugged My Computer while it was on and now i am worried that my movie files will be corrupted...they seem to play fine...but i am still worried....please could somebody please help by telling me if any of my files will become damaged...thank you

A:By Accident I Unplugged My Computer While It Was On

Unless the files were open and being played or saved at the time of the power loss, there should be no damage.

But remember that power can do out at any time and hard disks die without warning (quite often, these days), so all your important data must be backed up. Since you are so worried it would suggest you have no backup plan. Maybe time to get one?

As an example I backup all new data every day, to a second and totally separate hard drive, then all data to DVD every week. Every DVD is "verified" to ensure that no files are corrupt in the copy process.
