Now thats a multitasking computer....

Did you reinstall the right version of Windows? 32-bit or 64-bit

Also, does it give an error or the other program just doesn't open?

Third, is it just for these two games (little bit harder for a computer to run two games...) or with any program (your internet browser and let's say Microsoft word or something...)

Hey tech support guy(s). I hope that you will be able to help me with this problem

History:
When ever I run a p2p program(Utorrent) or Juice(Podcasting receiver) my computer becomes really slow. Its impossible for me to even watch media files because the computer lags all over the place.
I had this problem once before about 3 weeks ago and deleted the harddrive and reindstalled windows which solved the problem but 2 weeks after the reinstall it started all over again.

I figured that it could be malware related.

Have a three month old Sony Vaio desktop...using Firefox..latest update downloaded Weds...

Computer will not multitask properly..if I have more than three windows open the PC freezes...have found pressing ctrl-alt-del brings up task manager...by bringing it up and clicking to close it..without actually activating it at all....it unfreezes the PC for a while...but then it happens again...

In worst cases Firefox locks compleely and I have to close it down using task manager...happens with ALL programs from Word to WinMediaPlayer...

Anyone know what might be causing this?

Checked for ad/spyware...nothing...used Norton 2005..it found nothing...

I am a PC "know-nothing" so any help would be appreciated...

Anyone here ever actually test how much you can do on XP and still be able to switch between prorgrams, ect? I have seen posts by OS X and Linux users claiming they were able to burn a CD, download a file, play an MP3, Play a video, while rendering, and sufing the net...and their system slowed down, but was still quite usable.

I just wondered if anyone ever tested XP this way?

A:Ever test XP and multitask abiltiy

If you have the money to buy a Macintosh then that is the way to go, there are good things about them and there are bad things about them, but the one thing about a Mac and OS X is it is not supported here. And I think that is one good option.

I recently restarted my computer, and wiped my datadrive. Reinstalling some programs, I tried to multitask with YouTube and CS:GO with my dual monitors. My computer can run CS:GO with ease, but I found out YouTube would lag horribly. Before adding in CS:GO to the computer's running, YouTube would already be loaded. But when CS:GO is put on, it lags. Before I reset my computer, I was able to do this with no problems. I have tried to resolve flash, and have tried it on multiple browsers. Thank you for any response. Also, I have windows 8.1

Some Specs:
Nvidia GeForce 660
Intel i7-3770K 3.50 Hhz

One of my favorite things about Windows 7 vs it's predecessors, has been the way it seems to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.. Meaning, I could start a file transfer, start a download, and still have a very responsive, use-able machine for basic tasks. I read about the dispatcher lock fix that was part of 7, that allowed the OS to handle multiple calls to the cpu simultaneous, and thought it was due to this. The machine has remained fast and responsive during the entire 5 months I have been using the OS.. Up to now.. All of a sudden, the machine slows for normal tasks, stalls, stutters, if I so much as start a transfer or extraction in the background.. What could be going on.. System is the one listed in my specs.. 8gb of ram, 5400+.. Any help appreciated!!

A:Computer slowing during multitask.. say it aint so..

It isn't just during multi-tasking.. it is during everything, but more notice-able during multi-tasking.

Has anyone used or heard of the Eddie Maintenance Multitask Utility CD? Good or Bad!!!!!!!

A:Eddie Maintenance Multitask Utility!

This is your second thread asking about a questionable utility suite. Where do you find this stuff? Stick to well-known programs recommended by the experienced folks here and reputable blogs. There's no way I'd mail "Eddie" any money for a magic CD which is probably just a random collection of a bunch of freeware or shareware apps.

If you're looking for some type of cure-all that solves every computer known to man with just one click, it doesn't exist.

The subject computer is my gaming, video editing, and TV watching computer. The only reason it has internet is for uploading to youtube.

The hard drive has only 3.92 GB free of 465GB. That's after running CCleaner (It was a low 2 GB number). If I try to do more than 2 things at once, it'll start locking up. Watching TV is alright in windowed mode on cable, but full screen Cable will freeze-frame. ATSC/OTA will freeze-frame at will windowed or freeze-framed. GRID runs fine, a little low on FPS, but i'm also running onboard graphics.

I've gone to alot of the sub-folders and I only add up to 200 odd GB, and WinDirStat only gets to 26% scan before crashing. But I don't know where I've lost 200GB at.

I've ran CCleaner, MBAM, and Windows Defender, and nothing concerning is getting found.

I have processor scheduling set to programs, virtual memory manually set to 0MB for all drives, and DEP is only on for essential windows programs and services.

Hi everyone,A few days ago, I suddenly couldn't update AVG anymore. It always gives me an error, telling me the connection with the server failed. I also noticed that I can't connect Limewire (P2P program) anymore and opening movie streams in Windows Media Player doesn't work anymore either.I searched some forums for a solution and I found someone with a similar problem, who also told he couldn't execute the "cmd" and "regedit" commands anymore. I tried it on my own computer and I can't run those things anymore either. When I try executing them, the explorer goes all weird and shuffles the program bars on the task bar.I've manually downloaded the latest updates for AVG, installed them and did a full scan, that didn't find a thing. I also ran AdAware, which said I had some malware, which I removed with it. Then I also ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, which found some more malware, so I removed it, rebooted my pc, but the problems still exist...I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem, because it's really anoying...Here's my HijackThis log:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 20:37:26, on 11/05/2009Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16827)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\At... I don't know where to post this now. I have no clue anymore what is wrong with this system. With the money I have wasted into this thing I could have bought a top of the line gaming rig by now. But now its too late to just pull out and leave this thing alone.

Anyways suddenly I am getting this problem(problem number 156?).

This is how it started: I updated my video card drivers to the latest ATI drivers 9.12. I started playing the game DIRT2 for a couple hours. I finally closed down DIRT2 and suddenly I was getting this problem: The PC would get a split second freeze every couple of seconds. Along with this split second freeze is coupled with this High Pitched Looping sound like when a program locks up and you get that looping sound until you can close out the program. This freeze up is basically noticable in the form of the mouse freeze up for a split second, then it moves again and then split second freeze again.

Ok, that is just the start of the problems. I am also suddenly having random issues with connecting to the internet via my wireless. Before this problem occured I was able to connect flawlessly. My wireless adapter will be displayed as "Connected" as always but I cannot open a web browser page. My windows live was still connected for 10 minutes one time while I was trying to figure why I can't connect to firefox. Then suddenly windows live crashed!

I thought that my problems were coming from the faulty hard drive that I jus... Read more

It all started when I was defragging last night. I got a couple BSOD's while doing the defrag but idiotically I just ignored them, restarted my pc and continued to defrag. After the third BSOD restart is where I died inside. When starting my pc, after the Windows XP loading screen it goes to a black screen and stays there. I try to go into safe mode but it freezes when loading drivers. I tried to do a repair with the Windows XP Setup CD but after it loads the drivers it goes to a BSOD with the following STOP message 0x0000007B. I've searched online for help and have used many utility cd's and diagnostic tools with no success (P.S. one of the utilities is a live cd and it BSOD's when starting up). There's nothing wrong with the RAM or Hard Drive, the partition table and boot sector are fine, the MBR and MFT are fine. I plugged my HDD into another computer as a secondary drive and I can explore the contents of my HDD (while using the primary drive in that computer). I suspect there may be a problem with a controller because I put a backup hard drive in my computer and tried installing Windows XP but I get the BSOD again; it's really weird because I used a SATA connection for my original drive and an IDE connection on my backup drive (is this a northbridge/southbridge issue?!). Is there any way to fix this (preferably without formatting or buying any new parts)?! And if there really is something wrong with a part and/or controller, why did none of the diagnostic tools recognize ... Read more

well there is a technical way but I doubt you're up for because it uses linux however, a simple way is to reinstall the version of windows but without formatting the harddrive this should fix the issue. you will gain access to the computer as if it were normal you can backup your documents, music, etc. and then reformat the computer.

I have tech service through the ISP I have. I noticed that Chrome was running kind of sluggish and figured, since it was there, I contacted tech support. The tech removed Malwarebyte, Super Anti-Spyware, Advanced System Care, two registry programs I had and Baidu browser and Baidu Speed up. He said almost everything could be done with programs already available in Windows 10. He tried to show me but he was so darn fast I could hardly keep up. I told him among all the programs only Super Anti-Spyware found 470 tacking cookies! He said that it was OK and they were harmless and I could access them from another Windows cleanup selection. Are all these programs that are 3rd party out there junk? When I used them I found so many problems, weaknesses and vulnerabilities. But to have them be deemed mostly useless, he did say MOSTLY useless, I am really confused. Been messing with computers for over 20 years and always used 3rd party Virus, spy ware and optimization tools regularly. Are they just programs that cue into certain functions of Windows and isolate them to make a program that is already in Windows but makes it sort of a short cut or are they really valuable? I am reinstalling a couple of things the tech deleted whether he liked it or not. As for the rest, I just don't know.

Hello, I was giving my computer a general tidy up and it somehow caught WIN32\Gaelicum.A. This prevented me from doing anything but accessing safe mode. So i followed a couple of guides and through safe mode managed to remove the virus.
Overjoyed, I rebooted to normal mode and proceeded to log in. However after entering my password and attempting to log in i was logged straight out without so much as seeing my desktop. I also tried pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del twice and trying to log in via administrator. However the same thing happened.
So I thought right something has been added to my startup folder to log me out as i log in so i went to safe mode to try and remove it in that. But the same thing happened in that.
In a last ditch attempt to remove the suspected script from my startup i loaded up my Ubuntu live CD and accessed the folder through that. Only to find it empty of everything but the desktop.ini file.
I should say i have XP Home and no XP install CD or recovery CD because my OS came installed on the laptop from the manufacturer. And the recovery partition is also corrupted somehow so i cant restore. Any ideas on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated as although I have all my important files backed up and i could use Ubuntu for most of my needs, I need access to XP as I am working on a project for school which needs to be completed by the start of term in august and there is no equivalent software available on Ubuntu.

TIA,
Michael

Hi and welcome

Sorry for delay. we're quite busy here.

Bad news I'm afraid....

Win32/Gaelicum.A is a nasty file infector. It is also network aware and can spread to other machines on the network.
Even though your antivirus program detects it and can quarentine/heal some of the files it will be near impossible to clean up entirely.

I suggest to take this machine off the network entirely untill you can either clean it or you re-install everything. Your other machines should be thourally checked by a couple good virus scanners too.

With a file infector such as this the only way I would trust the system is to do a full format/reinstall of your operating system and all your programs.
Even if antivirus can heal many; often the file is corrupted beyond repair and wont work after virus code is removed. You cannot even trust your antivirus program as parts of it will be infected as well.

I do not suggest backing up any of your programs because this virus looks for and infects all executables on all drives. Your backups will need to come from known good cds or dvds or re-downloaded from the internet.

Your documents, mp3s & pictures should be fine to back up.

Sophos description (they have different name)

http://www.sophos.com/security/analyses/w32tengaa.html

If you don't have the resorces to format/re-install we can try & fix but I cannot guarenty our success or system integrety afterward.

Wish I had a better answer...

I've been trying to get rid of this problem:

When my computer goes Idle my Connection drops.
I Just closed Firefox and my connection dropped.
It drops randomly and constantly ( weird huh ) every 20 minutes or random browser closes.
It happened about 4 or 5 months ago, then went about 2 or 3 months with out the problem, now its back!

My equipment:
HP Pavilion Desktop. Vista (forget the model)
Westell 2200 Modem
Linksys WRT54G2 Router (i don't use wireless)
Also i Use a wired Xbox 360

Here is the thing though:
When my PC drops connection I am still able to get online and play with my friends on Xbox Live, So I don't think it is the Modem or Router, it has to be a cord or my computer or something.. Anyway I'm getting really tired of it because every time i want to use my PC I have to reset my router to restore the connection. Anything helps!

P.S. Everything is Wired at ALL times and it Still says its connected but i cant get online, And when i go into my Status it says 356 Million Bytes received, i don't know if that means anything.

Hello Everybody!

First of all, sorry about my English!

So.. I have a super huge problem. My computer was working fine for like 2 years until Sunday. That's when I checked my computer and saw a message: Windows was unable to save file: D:/... etc.. (I'm sorry I didn't write it down.). It froze down. I couldn't do anything. I had to Reset the computer, but since that time the computer is unable to see my D: hard drive, which is a Seagate.

You should know my configuration:
I have a Compaq Presario SR1911X with 2 hard drives. One is for the Windows XP: Samsung SP2004C, the other one is for all my data (photos, music, emails, everything!): Seagate ST3200826AS. This is the one which is not working.

I took my computer apart and tried to change the cabels, just to see if it's a cabel problem. It's not. And I can hear that the HDD has power because it gives me the sound.. But the only problem, that the computer doesn't recognize it anymore.

Please Please Please people, help me!!!! I don't want to loose all my data, expecially my photos. Also, I don't have the money to get it to a data recovery comptany.

Thank you!

A:Can't see my HDD anymore!! Please Help me!!

It sounds like the hard drive died. Good thing you backed everything up, huh? Data you don't have at least 2 copies of is data you don't want to keep.

Is the drive even spinning? Did it make any noise before quitting? If there is no access at all, a data recovery company may be the only answer. But they can cost 1000's of dollars, too.

You could try some hard drive tests if they will run on it.

Free Hard Drive Testing Applications:

Manufacturer's Tests
Victoria for DOS
Victoria for Windows (Both versions of Victoria are among the best and most thorough tests available.)
HD Tune
CheckDisk 1.03 (Marks bad sectors as unusable.)
HDAT2 (Diagnostics and bad sector recovery)
MHDD Low-level Diagnostics
Bootable Hitachi Drive Fitness Test Floppy or CD Image (works on most drives)

As the title says,

Where can I find XP these days?

I'm wanting to put it on the HTPC I'm building, simply because it's cheaper than Win7. Would prefer XP Pro for the IR support, but not neccesary. I'm working with a hauppauge HVR-1600-MC, it supports XP SP2 up through 7x64, so it's just a matter of price....

I know i could find Vista dirt cheap, but i wouldn't want it for the same reason as the next guy.

At the same time, I don't know if the board (GA-MA78LMT-S2) is supported by XP?

A:Where to buy XP anymore?

It is very expensive as it stands.

Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2: Amazon.co.uk: Software

Just type into google 'Buy XP pro' thousands of options.

Hi there,

I have an old Dell XPS M1530 and wanted to salvage the hard drive, buy an enclosure and use it as an external hard drive. This is what i typed in:

select disk 0
clean
create partition primary
select partition 1
format fs=ntfs quick

Do i need to do anymore? or can i just put it in an enclosure and use it as a hard drive? and will i have the 320 GB on the drive to use?

A:Do i need to do anymore?

I think you are OK.

But I'd go back into diskpart and look at the results.

Probably with these commands

List disk (should show disk 0)
Select disk 0
List part (should show partition 1)
Select part 1

Do you see a part 1 with the expected size?

If so, you are good to go, but you can always recheck in Windows Disk Management after you get it connected.

I'm not sure, but I don't think you have to assign a drive letter in diskpart.

Hi, i got a weird problem:

one peacefull day the computer rebooted by its own, and then i can't get access to any FTP (wich i've been using before the restart).
Some days ago It also happened, i tried everything (virus scan, spyware, reconfiguration...) and the only solution was a reformat, but this time i cannot consider it.

I'm using Windows XP SP2, with all updates.

Hi, welcome to TSF.

I'm currently at work so my assitance will be brief:

I want you to search for these files on your computer and make note of if they exist. If they do, we'll need to delete them in Safe Mode:

Enable the Viewing of Hidden Files, and then search:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmd.com
C:\WINDOWS\System32\netstat.com
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ping.com
C:\WINDOWS\System32\regedit.com
C:\WINDOWS\System32\taskkill.com
C:\WINDOWS\System32\tasklist.com
C:\WINDOWS\System32\tracert.com

Reboot your computer to Safe Mode and then delete any of those found above, includining this folder:

C:\Program Files\winupdates\

while in Safe Mode run HJT and fix:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winupdates] C:\Program Files\winupdates\winupdates.exe /auto

Reboot and report back with a fresh HJT scan.

Hello everybody,

This is my first post here, I got into a situation with my computer that I don't know anymore how to go on... hope I can get some help here.

It started when I was searching for a little freeware to change my desktop wallpaper automatically. After being redirected few times I found and downloaded "Desktop Wallpaper Timer 1.6.9.exe" (don't remember the web address, I was not attentive). I've scanned it with NOD32 and no threads were found.

After I tried to run it, a disaster began.

First I've noticed the message in the taskbar: "Your security center service is turned off" when I tried to turn it on again it was not possible. Says simply the security center service can't be started. I opened regcleaner by jouni vuorio to remove the new thing, under "software" was written that the FirstRRRun has been installed.

I removed it and than:
- NOD32 simply dissapeared - message: The program doesn't exist
- The same story with Spybot Search&Destroy
- Same with Registry Mechanic
- Not able anymore to connect the internet: "wireless wizard can not be started" (I'm writing this from another computer)

I tried to reinstall NOD32 - Not possible: Message "106 Error Occured while extracting archive file"

Can not reinstall spybot either

With another computer I've searched for AV programs like AVG free, Kaspersky trial, F-prot trial... None of them can be installed. All give messag... Read more

A:Don't know anymore...

Seems the problem has been resolved. I've used no-need-to-install AV Dr.Web. It found and removed 2 worms Win32.HLLM.Beagle. After that I was able to reinstall all programs and fix all other problems.

Here's the new log

Hopefully someone can help me out because I am a novice when it comes to computer skills. In the last few weeks or so my internet has been acting up and keeps crashing on me witha message reading that I have had some serious error and needs to close, allowing me to report it to microsoft. I ran AVG 8.0 (Free edition)and Spydot. They seemed like they got rid of things and everyone was going okay but my internet was still acting up.

Now, in the last few days that problem has gone away but I believe have malware on my computer. I keep getting pop ups from avg saying trojans like Vundo.FJ and BHO.HYT are on my computer and should be fixed, which AVG supposably does.

Currently, I keep getting new windows of internet explorer opening, kind of like popups, that I never did anything to that are from really random sites. I am not sure how that helps but I figured I would throw it in here.

From my little knowledge of computers I used "run" with msconfig and noticed that in my startup it says that I have these three things that I know should not be there. They are:
1. ruyopaku
2. tukuhegu
3. hagijifa or metadomo (It keeps changing between the two for some reason)
They are all rundll32.exe, whatever that means.

This is what I did to get rid of it, besides running my two spy programs, so hopefully I didn't screw anything up.
1. I used "run" an went to services.msc to stop Backgroudn Intelligence
2. I used "run" to look at the registery edit... Read more

So I had some problems with AVG antivirus, when booting my pc got stuck on booting the avg processes, so I removed them, then it got stuck on some other processes (like fvevol.sys or so) so I removed them too. After removing all processes that got stuck when booting, I couldn't boot at all! Every time I booted it automatically came in the boot manager, saying it couldn't restore my pc. :(

How can I fix this? Please note that there's nothing wrong with my HDD, it's about one week old, all new. I also did not actually remove the processes, I transfered them to an USB stick.

And BTW, I still have acces to my HDD and bios
Thanks in advance :D

The past few days my PC has been infected (either by an obvious fake mail I opened by mistake or by some random website I visited) and since then everytime I start firefox the browser works slow especially in google. Sometimes a website is opened with a fake scanner telling me its scanning for threats, other times I get redirected to other websites (who won't display any content once they've loaded) when I click on websites that I usually visit daily through google search.

Since then I've installed Ad-Aware, Superantispyware, MalwareByes Anti-Malware and scanned with all three and each one found various trojans which they quarantined and which I removed. I also searched with Nod32 and it found nothing at all.

I did some more research on my problem and found out that I might be infected with Vundo but this is just a wild guess. However I did a search with Spybot - Search & Destroy and it did find a Vurtomondo (or if it was called something else..I read that its like Vundo) and removed it and rebooted my PC but none of this worked.

All programs have the latest updates but none of these were done in safemode. I downloaded a program called VundoFix and it found one threat (when I used it in safe mode) and rebooted the PC but the problem didn't get solved.

One common problem to Vundo infection was a security hole in Java-related applications so I uninstalled these and reinstalled them but the problem is still there. I cleaned my registry as well to see if ... Read more

A question that has probably been asked about a USB joystick more times than you have shook a stick, why would one not be recognised by xp professional, a logitech extreme, I have the software, I loaded the current version from logitech web site etc, unloaded the software, reloaded it etc, no joy.

Am I just going to have to resolve myself to the fact the thing will just not work, or is it the registry may be at fault etc.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Alright, I've been having some trouble with this laptop.

I turn it on, no disk in the drive, and it eventually tells me: "Operating System Not Found!"

I tried putting in the restore disk and the OS disk to reinstall, but with either one, I just get a "No Hard Drive Found" message.

I really can't get any further than that. Any ideas, at all? All I know is: Things worked fine before he tried to clear some internet files (apparently).

Yesterday I discovered that my webcam is no longer listed as a device on my pc. Then my cd/dvd player. When I try to log into my Facebook page, my pc beeps once and the tab reads "Redirecting" and I'm brought back to login page. I tried a registry cleaner from Cyberdefender but didn't complete the installation because the "tech support professional" couldn't get the install to work without another very costly technician doing the job (bait and switch?). I've cleaned up programs that I no longer use, I've run my Norton 360 and only found tracking cookies. Spybot didn't turn up anything either. The HJT log is attached. I'm stumped. Hi - I use to be ableto run all programs in my system.
I have no clue when the problem started but now there are certain programs I can not run. All I get is a ERROR MESSAGE;
C:\windows\system32\config.NT . The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose CLOSE to terminate the application.

For a month I have been trying to find a solution, so far nada.

I've had terrible virus problems in the past two days, the worst I've ever had. It started with the Win 7 Security 2011 virus. I thought malwarebytes had cleaned that up. Then, I got the worst one I've ever had called Windows Recovery. I read that this one hides many of your programs, so I ran malwarebytes and hopefully got rid of it. But none of my icons were anywhere. I ran unhide.exe that I found on this site and some of them managed to come back. I did a full scan with malwarebytes after just to be sure everything was gone. I was told there was nothing left. But I'm still missing a good majority of my laptop. Most of my icons that were on my desktop before are no longer there, including recycle bin. Also, my search function in the start menu is bringing absolutely no results other than incredibly basic, preinstalled programs. I can't find almost anything, but when I try and reinstall, I'm told they still exist on my computer. Also, my windows explorer and windows media player do no work, and when clicked on where they used to be I get a notification claiming that they have been removed, renamed, etc. I honestly do not know what to do anymore. I would try and run Microsoft Security Essentials, but I cannot search for it or find the icon. When I try and reinstall it, I'm told it's already on my laptop. When I try to uninstall, it doesn't seem to work and stays at uninstalling for an extended period of time. I'm afraid most of my infor... Read more

Sorry if this was posted somewhere already - searched and couldn't find it. Good thing to be aware of - mostly for those have have not yet installed SP2

April 4, 2005 3:08PM

On April 12th, the tool that Microsoft provided to block updates will be deactivated and PCs around the world will begin downloading the 266-MB upgrade. Only seven percent of those questioned in the AssetMetrix survey had already installed the software.

Less than two weeks before Microsoft automatically rolls out XP Service Pack Two (SP2), fewer than a quarter of businesses have bothered to install it.
Of over 136,000 PCs in 251 corporations surveyed by asset management company AssetMetrix just 24 percent had installed SP2 and 40 percent of respondents had actively avoided upgrading.

On April 12th those companies who subscribe to Microsoft's Automatic Update service will be sent the upgrade, something Microsoft postponed to allow time for compatibility testing.

"Microsoft allowed a significant period of time to accommodate companies' demand to test and validate Windows XP SP2 within their IT infrastructure," said Steve O'Halloran, managing director of AssetMetrix Research Labs.

"Based on our research, a substantial number of companies have yet to decide whether to accept or embargo Windows XP SP2. In general, we recommend that companies deploy Service Pack 2, and we recommend proper testing and verificati... Read more

Hi

I have a Toshiba L70-B 12z.
Couple of months ago I did experience some problems while gaming (it did crash a lot).
I brought it by the shop who sent it back to toshiba to repair.
They replaced the motherboard because apparently 2 of the 4 cpu's where broken.

When I did get it back I found out my internal speakers weren't working anymore. So I sent it back ones more.
This time, the 2 internal speakers weren broken (how, I don't get) and also replaced. Mind you, it is a 1,5 year old notebook.

When I got it back this time, DTS sound was not functional anymore.
I get the error 'Failed to find apo endpoint'.
I did try to uninstall DTS en re?nstall, but when tries to re?nstall I would get the error 'This product does not support DTS-processing'.
I tried various DTS drivers (older and newest) without succes.

It's very frustrating, since before '**** started hitting the fan' everything worked perfectly fine. DTS sound was working perfectly, and I really liked the sound. I also tried a lot of internet solutions. Re?nstalling windows 10, going back to windows 8.1 (since my laptop originally came with windows 8.1), uninstall, re?nstall and updating sound drivers (from realtek), install the audio enhancement driver, updating BIOS via servicestation, all the recommended drivers for my laptop, all the windows updates. Nothing works.

I really don't know what I can do more for making DTS work again.
I hope someone here can help me.

Right click on the software that you are trying to install then select "Run as Administrator" this is a security measure in Windows Vista/7 to help prevent harm, and virus to your system.

After a while time, and now I can't run FFSJ: The Fastest File Splitter and Joiner on my Win7 anymore.

Also, It doesn't display on Shell Context Menu too.

I tried to Open With the program and joint but my system doesn't recognize all kind of *.001 ; *__a files. Then I reinstalled that software but it doesn't make sense.

Now I don't know what I need to do to join these files and play in.

P/s: I also downloaded HJSplit ( similar software ) but it seem like my problem.

Can anyone help me fix this problem, please ?!?

A:Can't join *.001 anymore

If they are just a series of compressed archives, extremely popular with torrenting, WinRAR(which I see you have installed), or 7zip should also be able to extract the content back into its original state. Looking at the image you posted, I'd venture a guess that the archive was actually created with 7zip in the first place, judging by the portion of the file name that I can see.
*side note: generally upon creation these files are named in successive order so I'd be curious why you only have one file with a .003 ext which appears to be all alone without its .001 and .002 buddies.

It started yesterday.

My Win. 7 occasionally froze. It was frustrating but I didn't think much of it.
Once, when it froze, I got frustrated and turned it off with the power button. It kept happening.

today.

it was still happening, so i went into safe mode. I wasnt going to do anything, I just thought maybe going into safe mode and then restarting would help. i did, however, go to control panel --> system --> advanced system settings to adjust for best performance, because i thought it was a slow computer issue.

when i pressed 'advanced system settings', it said it wasnt found. huh. strange.
then i looked and saw that i couldnt open Windows Explorer either. I couldnt open ANY of my preinstalled windows programs (notepad, snipping tool, etc.)
this was in safe mode.

So I restarted and guess what, it was JUST LIKE IN SAFE MODE! before i went to safe mode it wasnt like that...
i have no internet connection either.

i cant do system restore because in safe mode it says there are disk errors and i should check but then it syas that it cant and it has to schedule for the next time i log on. so i log on (normally) but it never checks.

in normal mode i cant open system restore AT ALL.

also, in normal mode i can open cmd, but not as admin. says it wasnt found. so right now i cant do ANYTHING. I can, however, use the programs I installed (games, software...)

please help
this is urgent i dont know what to do

sorry for my english

Well, my wifes sony Vaio laptop just went kaput.
It was crashing while she was using large email files
and also doing some things on IE internet.
This started shortly after updating Adobe Acrobat.
Maybe the cause. We kept it working by turning some of the
services off, but now it says: \windows\system32\config\system
cannot be found.
And we can't even boot off our systen repair disc unless we choose
to erase everything off the C-drive. I have a hirens boot CD, but cant get it to boot
from that.
When we turn it on and press a key it beeps, and we get the choice
of F1 or F2.
F8 wont boot to safe mode either.
Is there any way to get this to boot in safe mode or from a disc so we
can repair or get some data off?

Thx

A:can't boot anymore

The CD-ROM needs to configured in the BIOS boot order to be first in the list. It may already be so in your machine since your recovery disk would have to boot that way.

If you can do that, you can try creating a bootable CD with the recovery console on it per my suggestion in post 6 here:

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/454300-xp-error-driving-me-insane.html

The beep when you startup and the prompt for f1 or f2 may indicate a misconfigured BIOS -- you might look for an option to reload the BIOS/Setup defaults there, and see if that particular problem is resolved. It is different from the missing or damaged "system" hive.

I have 3 computers networked through an SMC Barricade router which is in turn hooked to a cable modem. (The router assigns each one a unique IP add. using DHCP) All three can access the Internet with no problem. the last time I tried to view the shared folders, all of a sudden none of the computers can see any of the others, Two are running Win XP home SP2. One of them must use Win 98 because it wouldn't take XP. I have installed Trend Micro Internet security an them, but have it configured for home local area network. On two of them I'm running Trojan Hunter. They all have spyware blaster running in the background. I don't know when the blindness problem occurred because I haven't tried to go to My network places since August. Everything was OK then. I have made sure all three are in the same workgroup.

A:can't see other computers anymore

The basics for troubleshooting are:

1. Make sure you have the same IP scheme (e.g. 192.168.0.x).

2. Make sure you have the same Subnet Mask, Gateway, and DNS IP addresses.

3. Make sure you can ping the other computer's IP address. If this fails, just for testing, make sure you turn off XP's as well as any other firewall.

4. Make sure you can ping the other computers by name.

5. Make sure you have the same workgroup name (watch for trailing spaces)

6. For troubleshooting purposes, turn off XP's and completely uninstall any other firewall software. You can always add more complexity after you get it working.

7. With XP, make sure you have the same username and password as the person logging onto the other computers. The default setting for XP Pro is to require a password for network access.

8. More details about how to network XP can be found at:
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/networking/xp_network.htm

9. More details about how to troubleshoot TCP/IP networks can be found at:
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/networking/trouble.htm

There continues to be a lot of misinformation about needing NetBEUI or to changing the NetBIOS setting. You can ignore both. Installing NetBEUI to solve a networking problem will just mask a some underlying and potentially important misconfiguration with TCP/IP. The default NetBIOS setting works fine so there is no need to change that either.

Hi, newcomer to the forums here. I really didn't know if this was the right place to post this thread, but since the problem isn't directly related to any program in particular but a plugin as such, I thought here would be a good place to start.

Recently I installed iTunes on my PC(A bad idea I know, but it was necessary for the occasion at hand). Anyway, as part of the package was the quicktime installer. The thing is that after I installed iTunes and Quicktime media player everything that was in .swf format just showed up as a blank white item with the quicktime logo in the middle. After uninstalling iTunes and even Quicktime, I discovered much to my horror that I could no longer view swf files, despite having the plugin! I get the following message: -

QuickTime Unavailable

The QuickTime Plug-in requires the QuickTime
System extension version 5 or later.

QuickTime is available from http://www.apple.com/quicktime.

By the looks of things, yet another apple product I unwillingly installed has taken over my computer and done strange things to my system preferences and settings. Lovely. I tried running regcleaner in order to try remove any stray quicktime registry keys that may be causing it, but even after doing that I was still left with this problem. It seems that Quicktime had decided to haunt me from beyond the grave. As I use a lot of s... Read more

Well, I thought I might actually try my hand at installing my Windows 7 x64 Pro student upgrade from Digital River finally today after I found the iso.

All has gone to hell.

First, I tried installing 7 to a second drive then activating it. Got the whole this license is for upgrades not clean installs.

So, I try some of the workarounds, which just ended up blue screening my computer and could no longer boot and a repair did nothing.

I tried installing 7 over my Vista install on the other Hard Drive, it failed during install and I had a half done 7 install on my Vista, which screwed up my MBR.

I tried reinstalling vista then installing 7 again (Note this is Vista 32bt HP to W7 64bit Pro, so no upgrades). Vista would just blue screen during install, each time I tried it would give a different error.

Now, I have two blank drives, so I try installing 7 back onto it like I had before, now the install fails every time with the error oxC0000005 in the installing features phase.

Seems that I am SOL?

This is a computer that has been running fine for the past year and never blue screened.

A:Can't install anything anymore.

If the registry edit workaround to clean install Win7 upgrade is failing, it may have been incorrectly done which could also cause the bluescreen.

Boot from your Win7 installer and wipe the HDD using Custom>Advanced tools, then if necessary install without giving key - It might take the key when booting from installer since regedits would only affect the OS and you are no longer in the OS>

When you get to the desktop, if it has refused your key up to this point, run a repair (Upgrade) install over your new install from the desktop, which will allow you to give key and activate when online.

Here is the way to burn the student download if you haven't already: Make bootable iso from student d/l

After checking the CPUboss site for desktop vs. laptop CPUs, I am not convinced I should spend more $ on a monitor and give up portability even if desktops beat lap CPU speed. I see that Core i5 desktop beats lap i7 by 25%, and i3 desktop beats i5 lap by 25%, and AMD a8 desktop beats a10 lap.

even a dual core desktop beats quad lap:

This is somewhat old, I should have posted it here... well, maybe a month or so ago.

In the end of the last year, I had some issues with the computer, so I posted about it at one of the other forums like this that you can find online. I got help, ran a few antimalware programs, HijackThis etc. One of these programs were ComboFix.

In the beginning, ComboFix worked alright. But it messed up the computer in various ways, which (I think) is supposed to be fixed when . But when ComboFix was to be unistalled, supposedly restoring the messed-up stuff back to normal, ComboFix stopped working normally just showing error messages, claiming that it didn't work with Vista (even though it did before). I tried to re-download it as instructed, but to no avail. I can't run ComboFix at all anymore. The helper said in December 31 that he would contact the creator of ComboFix and be back within "a few days". Now all of January and half of February have passed, and no response yet. I'm strongly suspecting he will not be back. I checked the thread today, and nope, no response.

In essence, this means I'm stuck with the computer partly messed up. What is visible is that I can't see my background (nor select one either), it's just black. In addition, thumbnails aren't working either, and images in folders have no icon (though if you click on them, you can see them without problems just a text piece below where the image is supposed to be. And these are the visible problems. Maybe there ... Read more

A:Does anyone use HiJack this anymore?

Why we no longer ask for HijackThis logs... HijackThis only scans certain areas of a computer's system/registry to help diagnose the presence of undetected malware in known hiding places. Given the sophistication of malware hiding techniques used by attackers in today's environment, HijackThis is limited in its ability to detect infection and generate a report outside these known hiding places. This limitation has made its usefulness nearly obsolete since a HijackThis log cannot reveal all the malware residing on a computer. As such, HijackThis has been replaced by other preferred tools like DDS, OTL, Zoek and RSIT that provide comprehensive logs with specific details about more areas of a computer's system, files, folders and registry keys which may have been modified by malware infection.Unless you know how to read and analyze logs from DDS, OTL, Zoek or RSIT there's no point in downloading and using them. If those tools are needed for a malware infection you should seek assistance from an expert who will advise you accordingly. Like HijackThis, these are powerful tools which rely on trained experts to interpret the log entries, determine what needs to be fixed and plan a strategy for disinfection. Using such tools requires advanced knowledge about the Windows Operating System and can cause system damage if used incorrectly. If you do not have advanced knowledge about computers or training in the use of these tools, you should NOT attempt to use them or fix anything without... Read more

Hi all ,just wondering if the reason i cant reinstall my W7 64bit HP from my USB is because i had deleted the 100mb partition??
Which contains boot files and other needed files(i think)

i tried three attempts but all failed
finally i did a clean install from the dvd and it worked

The fail said
Failure to find system partition???

And if so ,why didnt a clean install make another 100mb partition when i reinstalled it??

thanks

A:Cant reinstall from USB anymore??

I just recently did a clean install of Home Premium x64. I deleted the 100 mb hidden partition and my windows 7 system partition C, while leaving my second data partition D alone. Windows 7 rebuilt the 100 mb hidden partition all on its own along with the primary C partition. I initially told it to use all of the unallocated space and it prompted me that it might have to create the 100 mb hidden system partition, and it did create it. My disk structure is exactly the way it was before I started.

EDIT: I did the above install from a USB thumb drive and deleted the above mentioned partitions during the install process. I've also done USB thumb drive installs to a new empty hard drive without problems. I've done it partitioning the drive, and just leaving it whole, and the 100 mb hidden partition was created each time. I don't know what happened in your case, something must have glitched during your install.

A:Ssd won't boot anymore

WELL, you didn't say what SSD you have. BAD!
But, it sounds like you had the same experience that I had a few months back, when my three month old PNY SSD decided one day that it didn't want to work anymore. I called PNY, from whom I bought the drive, but they would not do anything without the original invoice. So I was stuck, with a worthless piece of crap that I could do nothing with.
I got right on my backup drive, pulled up Amazon.com and ordered a new "SanDisk, 128GB, SSD" and requested two day delivery.

Now it's several months later and my SanDisk SSD is still working like a champ. It came with the SanDisk Dashboard, which includes the "Trim" program to keep the SSD in top shape.

Sounds like you need a new SSD. I strongly recommend a "SanDisk" SSD.

Good Luck, and Happy Holidays!

My girlfriend bought an HP dv4 from best buy 2.5 years ago and she had to take it in for repair (she bought the geeksquad repair service) they replaced her hd with a "refurbished" one everything was ok for a few months until the plan expired but she renewed it but none of the service's she had done moved to the new plan, they scanned everything and said it was a software issue which all she had to do was run the rollback discs which i also did and the installation was done correctly and i updated all the drivers (geeksquad wanted to charge 275 to do this), anyway skip to today for the past few months she's been getting a blue screen error and her computer restarts i have scanned for virus's cleaned it out and still does it, im out of options at this point. ive done everything also the computer tends to run hot. any ideas or suggestions would help, i dont trust geek squad anymore and we cancelled the extra year she bought.

Hi everyone

I need some serious help here

The story is a little long
3 weeks ago, I had my computer working, and suddenly, it stopped booting windows, not even the logo show on screen, also no error code or anything. I couldn't enter diagnostic or safe mode (just bios). I had to format and reinstall windows 8 because any restore options worked.

Then a week ago, again it stopped booting, no error code, no anything, but this time, it bothered me that just 2 weeks before happened the same, so I started checking everything, so I took my Hard Drive, and put it in another computer, and it worked with no problem, windows booted, just not in my computer.

I started to look for solutions, and one was to use the command bootrec /scanos, and i got suprised that no windows installation was found. Eventually I had to speak with Microsoft tech, and they said it was my components because they were old, and they actually are (8 years), but I wasn't convinced that was it.

Before getting Windows 8 Pro, I had installed Windows 8 release preview, and it worked for months with no problem.

I thought that of course the fulll version would be heavier for my pc, so I installed Windows 7 again (had it installed for years before w8 release preview).

And now the bad part

after a couple of hours having the W7 installed, it won't boot either.

The same symptoms from W8, windows won't boot, not even the logo shows, although, with a little difference, now it shows a "Missing ... Read more

Building my own computer is starting to seem like a worse and worse idea. Problems are increasing almost exponentially.

First, specs:

~HD 4870X2
~Core i7 920
~3x2 gigs GSKILL DDR3 (1066 I -think-)
~MSI X58 Eclipse
~PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750W (Black, Quad, I forget the order)
~Vista Home Premium 64 bit

So here's the list of stuff wrong:

~BSOD - ntfs.sys
~BSOD - MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
~Pretty mucha any game that stresses the system will crash, did not resolve with a driver reinstallation
~Playing anything with Windows Media Player messed up the monitors colors/turned everything gray. This was fixed
~Sometimes playing a game won't cause it to crash, but the screen will go black. The system's still running/on, there's just no video input
~The GPU is running hotter than it used to - 78C at 70% fan
~Firefox likes to crash a lot, but that could be unrelated

Is tehre ANY chance this is just a centralized problem? None of this was an issue in the past; everything just sort of popped up.

A:So many problems I don't even know what it is anymore

hi for the ntfs i would try sfc /scnw http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66...c-command.html
for the memory try downloading memtest86+ iso file and burn to a cd use imgburn then put in your drive and reboot and run for a min of 4 hours more would be better.
is the gpu needing a fresh application of thermal paste or possibly a new fan

Spysweeper keeps removing 20 or so traces of these and they are immediately replaced.

Spysweeper removed a LOT of files but is unable to find the Malicious "queen" who is hiding somewhere and replacing them.

I got infected as soon as I hooked up the new puter. The very first Internet call !

Brand new puter, AND the very first call ...

While NORTON Internet Security, McAfee Anti-Spyware and Windows Update were updating themselves ...!

I'm about to call the suicide line, this is so freaking frustrating ...

Please, I need some expert help to take care of this ...

A:I Can't handle it Anymore ...,

A little more info on what happened:

I managed to update Norton Internet Security online and it found some of the files. It removed the Viruses but refused to remove the spyware.

Then McAfee Anti-Spyware removed some but NOT all the spyware traces.

So I resorted to using SpySweeper's latest edition.

And it removed a LOT, but can not remove the core problem.

So, I'm back in square one.

Power calibration errors are generally a sign of poor or incompatable media, however it could also be that you are trying to write to the media too fast.

I note it's CD-RW media according to the log, at 8x speed. That is the absolute maximum (8x) for the drive using CD-RW, not a good test.

Try lower speeds, it appears that you have also deselected the maximum speed sensing, that could prevent writing too fast.

Last night while using my computer, the video froze, but I was still able to use move the mouse pointer on the screen. The computer would not respond to any keyboard commands, ctrl-alt-del resulted in the "starting application" cursor ("arrow+hourglass") for about 1 second.
After a minute or so, the system just powered off. Pushing the power button had no effect.
I noticed that the fan in the power supply was still spinning. I unplugged the PC, plugged it back in, and the power light came on, fans spun up --- and then it powered down again, again with the power supply fan spinning. It contued to spin for 30-45 seconds.
It remains in that state. The power switch has no effect at all unless the machine is unplugged, then it will provide power for .5 seconds or so.

Hi there
for a whole host of apps you don't really need the desktop anymore.

struggling with Win8 for a while it DOES have a logic to it and even with a whole host of apps I never in a million years thought I'd be writing this.

1) Get rid of all the useless metro stuff you don't want.

2) Be TOTALLY ruthless with what you pin to the start menu -- and organise by WHAT YOU USE - rather than application --for example I have EXCEL in the same group as Notepad and Cmd prompt -- if I use these apps like this there's no reason to leave say EXCEL in the MS office group - especially if I don't use very often other programs in that group.

3) Replace IE invasive version (metro) with the Normal IE on the start screen.

Now good to go. At boot you get your customized start screen -- now say I want EXCEL I just click on it.
IF I did it the "Classical Way" I'd have to click on Start, then Ms office apps -- then Ms EXCEL (3 actions from boot rather than 1 !!.
The trick is to arrange the start screen properly for HOW YOU WORK.

This is NOT an OOBE experience so setting it up will take time and effort and we do need more customisation properties for the start screen -- but all those Start button lovers -- try thinking in the new way and you will be surprised.

Enc screen shot of my start screen.

Cheers
jimbo

I don't have this issue on my Desktop, but on my newly created Windows To Go drive.

I got this working today, and I pinned some items to the Start Screen. I want to pin items to the Taskbar, like Task Manager, but Windows isn't allowing ANY pinning to the Taskbar. I wonder if it's trying to kill use of the Desktop.
I've tried dragging things down, using the Start Screen commands, and even the right click context menu in Explorer, nothing.

BAH! Any suggestions?

A:I can't seem to pin anything to the Taskbar anymore.

I'm getting the same thing. My Windows 8 Release Preview running in a VM allows pin to taskbar but the "Windows To Go" installation does not. I hope this is not by design. Pinning applications to the Taskbar may be the 1 thing that makes this new OS usable.

Ok this is what's happening. I'm using a Windows XP laptop with SP3 a few days ago my computer suddenly started Leaking Memory i thought reinstalling windows would allow me to use my computer again. so i did. I started installing the software that i use including the latest version of Comodo Firewall. When the firewall was running it detected that x.exe was trying to make a directory which i then blocked from happening. I google x.exe and learned that it was a problem so in installed malwarebytes anit-malware to find it and remove it. during the mbam scan i detected backdoor.bot and removed it. then my comodo firewall started getting a warning that svchost.exe has tried to execute shellcode as a result of buffer overflow attack. i thought another reformat would solve it and my computer better now that backdoor.bot was gone and that i was going to be more careful this time and set up my computer defenses quickly but now svchost.exe is acting up again. Now my internet connection is not working properly while my pc is slow. I also noticed my taskbar keeps on changing. at first it's supposed to look like the WinXP taskbar but now it's Classic Windows Taskbar without even changing it and other things i notice.
Then i extract gmer to the desktop i get this warning, This page has unspecified potential security flaw so i just extracted gmer to my documents and run it from there. i'm not sure if that makes any difference.

Hello, I think I'll start off by saying I'm new here and I'm a complete idiot when it comes to computers so sorry if this is both a simple/obvious fix and in the wrong part of the forum.

Okay so, a while back my laptop, a two year old Sony Vaio with Windows 7, started just popping off. Like, the screen would turn black accompanied by a "pop" noise and turn itself off. I could easily turn it back on and a screen saying "Windows did not shut down correctly" would appear along with the options to start up normally, in safe mode, etc. And then I'd notice the laptop would be really hot, so I assumed it was just overheating.

I figured I'd clean the fans then buy myself a cooling pad to help me in the long run of things. The pad has helped, haven't had it pop off since I bought it a week ago, until now. I didnt have the pad plugged in as I just wanted to check my emails before work, but before my computer could even connect to the wifi (which has been taking longer than normal) it popped off, barely enough time for it to even get hot as it was only on for a minute. I waited a bit, put the pad on and started to go about my business when 30 minutes later, even with the pad on, it popped off again.

Now, is my computer overheating or is this some other problem entirely? Sometimes my battery doesn't take the charge when I have it plugged into the charger, I have to fiddle with the plug to get it to take. Could it be a problem with... Read more

A:Not sure what's wrong anymore

Hey zwolfoi,
The popping sound most like as a power issue most commonly when there's a pop there's a a short, To eliminate the battery first turn off your pc, unplug the power cord, disconnect the battery and click the power on button to release any electricity, re plug the power cord and do not connect the battery, turn on the pc and use it as normal, if the issue keeps occurring which it probably will, it is not the battery, next step, take it to a pc technician or to a technically savvy electrician and let him see whats what.

Hope this helps.
Best of luck

Since I installed Microsoft usb Wheel Mouse Optical I can't pan with the mouse wheel button any more. This mainly affects me in using Autocad but the problem is also evident in other Windows applications. For example in My Documents/My Pictures I used to be able to pan the images around by pressing the mouse wheel button, now I can't.In both this and autocad I just get a weird double headed arrow within a circle, moving the mouse scrolls the page up or down vertically but wont pan.Its really odd.
I guess its a driver thing, but in control panel/system/device manager/mouse I get a whole list of driver files for the mouse,How do I know which one is 'active'?Or, how does Windows know which one to use?I tried reinstalling drivers for the mouse from a Windows 98se disc but now I appear to have 2 hid compliant mice instead of one, each with a load of driver files and I still can't pan.It wouldnt matter but in Autocad its its a real bugbear. There are no solutions that work on the autodesk website. Im using Windows Me.....any ideas anyone? Thanks.

So I've been seeing this Get Rich Quick Scheme flying all over the place. I searched "The Net" for about an hour searching for some indication that it is a scam and haven't been able to find out. If you Yahoo search this string with the quotes around it "After all, we could all use some extra income, no matter what we do! How does $20,000 in two weeks sound?" you get tons of pages referring to this Get Rich Quick Scheme.
Click here to show the first search.
Click here to show the second search.

You can't search for "PayPal Scam" because all kinds of other previous scams show up, and I can't go weeding through them all. I sent a message to PayPal security about it. They replied saying they will be investigating the matter. That was about a month ago, and I haven't heard from them (so I guess they're not going to keep me posted about their investigation :/).

I have no idea whether it's real (though I am still extremely doubtful)!!! But for lack of evidence that it is a scam, I'm posting this here. I know there's a bunch of smart people that might be able to shed some light. The best theories that I could come up with are... scammers are using this elaborate method to collect tons of legit e-mail addresses; or PayPal has set this up to collect enourmous numbers of bank accounts.

Anyways, can anyone direct me to an official page (multiple pages would be better) identifying this particular scam? Or confi... Read more

would you post the following tests

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, Mcafee , AVG , Webroot etc

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

This should also work for windows 8
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all

M previous boot was a Samsung 840 pro 256gb and it worked like a charm. I'm running the latest version of Win8.

* Ran out of space on my 840 Pro and purchased a 500gb Samsung 850 EVO which had plenty of space and I successfully migrated over to the new drive a couple weeks ago.

* I've been using Acronis 2015 for backups and an external 4tb WD drive for these backups.

* Today I went to backup the NEW boot drive and saw I had a very large backup for the old boot SSD. In Acronis you have to boot to their program straight out of BIOS to access and erase the old backups, which I did.

* NOW I can't boot to the new Samsung 500gb drive for some reason. I've gone into BIOS and changed boot order to the 500GB but I just get a blinking cursor and a black screen when I reboot.

* However, if I change the boot order in BIOS to the OLD SSD it boots fine AND recognizes the 500gb and all it's data! What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any help you can give~
