In Appearance and Personalization > Personalization > Window Color and Appearance, I am unable to change the color of the Active Title Bar and of the Inactive Title Bar.

Whatever colors I choose, both the Active and Inactive Title Bars look like this.
I thought maybe a restart was necessary, but restarting has no effect.

Anybody got a cure?

A:Window Color and Appearance - Title Bar Color Can't Be Changed

Hello Beau,

You'll need to use the Windows Classic theme to be able to change the color of them. The color is not applied while using an Aero or Basic theme.

(Option Two)
Theme - Change or Save

(Option Two)

Hope this helps,

Last night I had to reinstall my drivers. I've double checked them all and believe them to be correct. My Icons now change to a sickly green when I hover over them or select one. My " favorites" also change to the same green when I chose one. I did something wrong but don't know what. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, James

Yesterday I went into msconfig startup and disabled Quick Time and Apple Push. When I rebooted, the taskbar color had changed from light blue to purple and when I click on the systray, there is now a thick border around the icon menu. When I also noticed other appearance changes, e.g. the startup menu had the light blue border, now it has a light green (see attachments). What could have cause the change? Is there a way to get back to the former appearance without enabling what I disabled?

A:Taskbar changed color

Right click on the middle of your desktop and choose Personalize.
When the Personalization opens you will see Color as one of the options, if you click on this you will see different colors you can use for desktop's surrounded area.  Click on the color you want, then click on Save changes.

I have a Dell GX 270 computer running Windows XP Pro.  I use MS Office 2010 Pro Plus.  I received two updates from MS yesterday, one of which had something to do with Office.  Since the update, all of the office programs have a grey to white background color, as opposed to the blue color I used to have.  It doesn't affect the function at all but it's just downright ugly and annoying.  I did a Help search for color but, surprise surprise, it was no help at all.  Does anyone out there know how the get my old default program color back?

A:MS Office Color Changed

If you go File > Options > General you can change the "Colour scheme" there.

I'm sure everyone got that at one point or another while using Vista.
Well, I honestly don't care about how my Windows looks from the outside, but the thing is it hurts the actual programs from running smoothly.
Running a GBA Emulator, for example, the color scheme changes the display to be squarish, and also slower. I can't play when the display is so squared. This only happens after I save, so it's not a problem with my computer or something. The display is ok before saving.
This also happened to me with another program I can't remember, but the view wasn't nearly as bad. In fact, I didn't even know it changed the color setting until after I exited the program.

So my question is, after all of this:
Can I force windows into Aero in any situation, without it automatically changing? OR, can I still have the regular effects working (and not turning square) without Aero? I tried every other possible configuration (vista basic, classic etc.) and it's like Aero + the color scheme change, so it's still squared.

A:The color scheme has been changed...

not as far as i know. if you launch an app that can't write to the screen using areo, vista automatically turns it off, and keeps it off until the app is closed. another one of those things that i hate about vista, it makes most of the choices for you.

Hi all,

At first I would like to greet everyone here. I don't know if this is the right forum section so please move it if there is a section this thread would match better.
You may be surprised by the subject. I think I have solved the problem of those annoying windows popping up but I actually have no way to give my patch a try because I can't reproduce any of these windows. And no, it is not due to hardware being too powerful (Intel Pentium P6100 @ 2.00GHz, 4GB of RAM -- not so much nowadays).

Could somebody name a software/games that are very likely to trigger those DWM notifications? If not within board rules, please PM me some information as to how you happen to get these windows.

Back in 2012 I wrote a script called SuppressDwmPerformancePrompts which turns off Aero, launches a game and re-enables Aero back. Then, DWM is somehow lulled into thinking that everything is OK. In some cases it's worked well but in another it hasn't. So that was a partial solution, and not handy really.

I've returned to trying to defeat it lately. I have written a search-and-replace loader that will be starting with Windows and patching dwm appropriately. Before I make it available for anyone to test I need to be sure it doesn't cause a memory leak, severe crash or OS freeze. To assure myself, I need to reproduce circumstances in which such windows appear. To reproduce them, I need your help.

A:The color scheme has been changed - I need to reproduce it

Is this the notification that you are talking about?
Install UltraVNC server/service onto a computer that uses the Aero theme. I think that UltraVNC's default settings will cause the notification shown above to appear when another computer has connected to the UltraVNC service. So, use another computer to remotely connect to the test computer that is running the UltraVNC server/service and see if that triggers what you want triggered.

If you do not see the notification shown above...
...go to the Windows Start Menu
> All Programs
> UltraVNC
> Edit Settings
Wait for the settings window to appear.
Select the tab named Input/File Transfer.
Uncheck: Disable Viewers [sic] inputs
OK your way out of the settings window.
Restart the computer.
Use another computer to remotely connect to the test computer.

You can look around at other settings like Remove Aero while connected... but I don't have that option checked and I see the notification shown above.

I know there is another thread on the topic.

I fully understand that some software programs kick windows into the basic color scheme because of their limitations and inability to use the Aero interface. My problem is different, and I'm hoping there is some way to stop Windows from automatically changing my color scheme.

I have 2 video cards and 4 displays. I've got an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 to run my main displays and an NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT for my projector and peripheral display.

The problem is, while working in the main displays powered by the GTX 260, doing simple stuff like browsing the web or working in Office 2007, I'll randomly get a notice that Windows has noticed slow performance... then typically a few seconds later Windows will change my color scheme to basic.

So it seems Windows will change the color scheme for two reasons; 1) a program is trying to do something not supported by Aero, or 2) it notices there is a performance issue.

My question is this; is it possible to tell Windows to stop adjusting my color scheme due to performance issues?

A:The color scheme has been changed... at random!?

Control Panel>Performance Information & Tools>Adjust Visual Effects>Uncheck let windows decide whats best for my computer, at worst should give you a pop up asking if what scheme to change

In Windows Explorer, one of the available fields is "Rating".
It gives you five stars to work with (presumably 5 stars is the highest rating)
When you click on them (in properties) they turn from white to a pale yellow.
Is there a way to change the color of the stars so they are more visible?

And I've messed around so much trying to fix it myself (before asking for help) 'cuz I'm sure it's simple, that now I'm not sure I can remember what I did just before the problem showed up or what I've done to 'try' to correct it. My 1st shot, even tho' blurred, will show that the 'text color' below each icon was white & easy for me to read. The 2nd, after it changed, shows the color more blackish, harder to read. I also think there's a bit of difference in background color? I also messed that up again just before I came to post but didn't think to get a shot.

A:My desktop icons & background color changed

you ain't gonna believe this!!!! I closed the forum after I posted above, didn't bother to look at my desktop, clicked on my search site to look for something else which also involved clicking on dt & when I did so, would you believe that the text was back to white!! The background color is still not what I want but am half afraid to try correcting that now. I know there are some issues with my PC (mainly the idiot sitting here typing) but there's no way I can do a 'reinstall' which seems to be the posted answer so many times when I read other posts.

For some odd reason only in Firefox my font color changed in the search results. Instead of the blue (and purple) color it changed to a dark green color. Does anyone know how I can reverse this?

I tried to fix it through settings, but don't know what to do.

I've been searching around, but couldn't find anyone with the same problem.

If I right click and click on inspect, this appears: *|*:linkrgb(0, 0, 238) about: PreferenceStyleSheet:3;

*|*:linkrgb(0, 0, 238) is crossed, and there is a blue circle right next to it.

What can I do?

In Windows explorer, you can change the borders, the scroll bar, the text etc. etc. but all around those the color is white. I was thinking that perhaps in doing it a light grey (or blue, beige) etc. would be better.
Less contrast would be easier on the eyes
Less white would be easier on the monitor
Less white equals less light therefore perhaps even may lengthen the life of the monitor.
Just a thought. So is it possible to do so?
I went to Control Panel -> Window Color -> Advanced Appearance Settings -> and clicked within the active window there to change color but it didn't seem to do anything.

i'm thinking this could be a driver issue? i did have an issue with all my internal HDDs reading as external ejectable media, but fixed it with sata drivers.... i got the driver for my GPU, but still did nothing to fix this.

any help to solve this?

A:Itunes x64 changes win7 color scheme?

This is usually a driver issue. You might try this:

Start> In search box type

View advanced system settings

On the advanced tab> Performance> Settings

Visual effects> Choose Adjust for best performance

Click Apply and ok your way out.

See if this corrects the issue. If so, you can reenable individual options to see if you can find which one(s) cause the issue. Good luck. A Guy

A:How to change background color of Win7 folders

Ken, I know exactly what you mean, and sorry, I have not yet totally found the answer, however you can change background colour of windows using Personalise/Window color & appearance/Advanced appearance settings. Click in window text area and choose your colour (I'm trying a very pale cream)
For the folder background (aaagh white!) I have spent a little time tweaking my grahics card gamma/contrast/brilliance to achieve the best "viewability" without searing eyeballs! All the best, Chris
P.S. I'll watch with interest cos I think this tweak should be available, as you suggest!

I have a HP color laserjet 2840 that I use with my WinXP pc before, it scanned and print all the document and images that I needed to do so. Since my son gave me another pc with Win7 64bit, I search through google and can print only, but I can't scan anything. Would anyone please help me how to solve this problem, I have a lot of pix to be scanned but I am in the dark how to now.... Thank you and appreciate it very much.

A:HP color laserjet 2840 can't scan with Win7

Have you gone on the HP website and downloaded the drivers that support Windows 7? I just located it, and I noticed the fax and scan feature driver was a separate download. When I clicked on it, it says:

Use the scan and fax software available in Windows 7 when full software functionality is not available through the print driver. For more information, go to support document Use the software in Windows 7 to fax and scan:

So basically when full software functionality is not available through the product driver, you have to use the Windows Fax and Scan feature available in Windows 7 when your device is connected via USB.

The old Win7 'Window Color and Appearance' has been removed from Windows 8/10.

I have a Win7 disk image, so I have access to the files from it....

I would like to put some of the Win7 64-bit files into a folder on my Win10 64-bit computer, and then run whatever command I need to; so I have this functionality back again.

Does anyone know if there is a way of making this work?

Welcome to SevenForums, orel.

OK, here's what you gotta do.
In Start Menu, search for "adjust the appearance and performance of Windows"
Open the option with that name.
In the Window that opens, find "Show translucent Selection Rectangle"
Check it and Click apply.
Post the results.

Hope it works. If you got a solution, post it and mark thread as solved.

I'm upgrading from Vista Home Premium (64-bit) to Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) and I think it is almost done (the last step I remember was the last one on the list). However, when it restarted, the screen is now changing from red to bright green, to blue, to gray, darker gray, gradient white/gray, black, and repeat. Is it supposed to do this? It seems like the hard drive is still active as the indicator light flickers, but I haven't seen any tutorial that mentions this happening. It kind of looks like the colors are being tested or something but it's been going on for maybe 20 minutes now? I don't know if I should power down and restart or not.

My sister upgraded from Vista to Win 7 yesterday (successfully) but we left the computer alone for a few hours and when we came back, the upgrade was done. So we don't know if it went through something similar...

Thanks in advance!

This should be easy but I've found several instructions to the right page-- but the font box is greyed out.

The font size is ok but I want to make it look more like old XP which means light blue background with white
font lettering on the desktop. The default goes to black text for light background-- I already found that out.

Years ago I did this on another job but can't remember how to get around what Win7 _wants_ to do.

With this is mind is there any summary screen of what changes have been made?. As said, the usual
setup screen allows me to change b/g color but font is greyed out.

The audio also starts looping sometimes, but not always. I've installed the newest drivers for my GPU. One possible cause is that my hard drive is diagnosed as "pre-fail" by SMART, but I rather suspect the graphics card as the culprit. I've looked at other forum posts, but could not find an answer. When I made this change from Windows Classic, the windows for all MS Office apps turned a baby blue whereas I prefer some sort of gray. Hello there,

I changed the maximum memory in the msconfig boot settings (STUPID STUPID) and now windows won't boot under any mode. Underneath is everything I know about the situation.

Yesterday I noticed that my 8GB RAM wasn't being used fully (only 3,96GB). CCleaner detects 8GB. My BIOS detects 8GB. But my OS said only 3,96 was usable. So I looked up why. I saw a 'solution' somewhere, which said:
- go to msconfig > boot > advanced options.
- check maximum memory
- fill in amount of memory in laptop (8192)
- apply and reboot

The person said this worked for him. For me it did the following. When rebooting I got to Windows Error Recovery, and I haven't been able to boot windows since. Whatever I try, I always get a black screen and then the laptop reboots after 2 seconds. I've tried:
- Starting windows normally. > black screen then reboots
- Launching startup repair, windows loads files (grey process bar) > black screen then reboots

If I go into the F8 advanced boot options menu:
- Safe mode (with or without networking or command prompt) makes it load the windows files from system32, then halfway through the list > black screen then reboots
- Last working configuration doesn't work either. > black screen then reboots

I've tried booting from my USB drive, which functions as a win7 DVD (my CD/DVD drive is broken), with no results. It starts loading files (grey process bar), then as soon as the 'starting windows' GUI appears > black sc... Read more

I have just installed an old program "MAME32 version 0.95" on my Win7. The program works fine except that one feature doesn't work properly.

So I right click the program exe file and enable compatibility mode and select Windows XP (SP3), when I try again, the same problem happens.

Well, it's not a big deal so I just go back by uncheck the compatibility mode but now, I notice that Win7 has added a shield to the program logo. There's no shield before I try the compatiblity mode. I don't like it. I uninstall and reinstall the program and the shield is still there. How to get rid of it.

A:program logo changed by win7, how to restore it back?

Hello Summer4Ever,

This is normal. The shield overlay icon on the program's icon is just to indicate that the program will Run as administrator (elevated) when you run it, and give you a UAC prompt requiring you to "Allow" it permission to run first.

Welcome to the Seven Forums
That is a very tough area to put a photo in because of the way that menu stretches depending on how much you have pinned to the start menu or how many recent programs you have displayed.
You could try a resource hacker of some kind and open up the aero.msstyles and edit image number 808 and 809 if you are using the default Aero theme.
I would recommend you go to Virtual Customs and ask there I know they know how to do it.

Hello Buddypup and welcome to Seven Forums.

Couple of things you can try. If you haven't already done so, run a full scan with your anti-virus of choice. Even if it comes back clean (no malware found) I'd then run an on-demand scanner like Malwarebytes, ESET Online Scanner, SuperAntispyware, etc. I'd next perform some basic "housekeeping" chores by running Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter. If you're still having issues I'd move on to a Clean Boot (AKA: Clean Startup.)

And finally, I'd look through this troubleshooting guide prepared by one of the Forum experts. It offers some additional things to try.

EDIT: I've put in a youtube link to show what my problem is but it's messing up the post even if I use plain text and uncheck all the options below the post.

The video above is not my computer, but it looks just like this.

Built the pc last year with all new parts, used vanilla 8.1 install.

The other day when I woke up Windows from sleep mode, the image was flickering the purple start menu color, causing the OS to be unusable. I thought this is a GPU issue because I disconnected monitors and connected to the mobo and the problem went away. Then switched back to GPU, and it stayed ok. Later on though the problem came back and switching to mobo did not help. I did full shut down and restart. Checked graphics drivers and they are up to date.

For what it's worth, I really only use this thing for Lightroom and Steam, I only have 3 common games installed. Firefox, VLC, and Ableton are also installed. All software is legit, paid-for installs. I also do not download any torrents on this PC. Running windows defender.

Task manager shows my CPU is running at 35-40% or higher non stop after reboot. Under processes tab, there's lots of things that all seems Windows related taking between 1 and 10% and a couple more (See pic below). "Service Host: Local Service" and "Service Host: Local System" for example. Around 70 processes, 800 threads, 300,000 handles.

Good Morning,

I've searched around but can't really find any details on this;

I girlfriend has a Dell desktop, running XP SP2 - It has no previous problems but was out of use for around 6 months and so she somehow forgot her password to log on.

To get around this I booted into Safe Mode and changed the password through the Administrator account which I've done a dozen times before without issues. I restarted and then got the error:

Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

At which point it keeps rebooting itself - it will not start in safe mode and will not go back to the last good configuation (although I've rarely seen this work sucessfully anyway).

I'm hoping I can just do a repair of the registry files via the XP disc, however what sort of success rate am I looking at as there are files she really needs to get hold of.

Secondly, I took out the hard drive (XP SP2) of an older system I have at home in the hope of making this the master drive and slaving the corrupt drive and try to pull the required files this way, I've obviously changed the boot sequence to boot from this new drive - I get the the XP loading bar screen, where it just restarts itself again.
I've tried all the combinations of running just this drive, but with the same results - just seems a little odd that I wouldn't boot from a completely different drive (this drive is known to be working correctly).

Hi everyone,

Is there an easy way to change my Start Screen tiles color so that it follows my theme color? Currently, the tiles are all in different colors and it is horribly ugly.

I have spent some time searching the internet for solutions but none of them suit my needs. All of them requires changing each tile manually and each time I pin something new to the Start Screen, I have to change the color for the tile manually again. I am looking for a simple solution to change the tile color to my theme color once and for all.

Thanks in advance : )

A:How to change Start Screen tiles color

This has been discussed by many - and so far Microsoft isn't listening. It seems to me Windows 8.1.1 update would have been a good place to include the ability to change tile colors, but from what I have seen of advance info on it, there is not tile color change included. There is no way except partial (MS Apps aren't included) using Olby Tile - [APP] OblyTile - Tile Creator for all programs. - xda-developers These tiles stay colored as shown, even after shutdown and restart, or restore operation. However, as indicated, I can't change the MS Applications.

Attached is what I was able to do with it on my Start Screen. Actually, my desktop Icon is blue also, instead of purple - screenshot somehow changed it.

All the text on the Start screen text is white (when using a dark background). Can this color be changed?

I'm on a Toshiba laptop, and sometimes when it's on for an extended period of time I get these weird color patterns on the desktop and the Start menu:The buttons on the Start menu show up once I mouse over them, but the portions between the buttons are still stuck on the pattern:The problem is fixed once I restart the computer, but after a while it comes back again. Any ideas on what to do? I've been using this laptop since at least '05 or '06, and it's likely it might be on its last legs too.

A:Weird color patterns on Start menu

It may be video card overheating.
Did you try to clean well all vents, using a can of compressed air?
Which Toshiba model is it?

Hello all. Just got a new laptop for my first experience with Win10, although I am near expert experience with Windows since Win95. I must say I have more appreciation for this than I did for Win8. Anyways, I have been having an issue I am hoping I can find a solution to. I have tried every combination of colors and color settings possible and cannot get this fixed. I have posted a side by side pic of my start menu on first press, then the list of All Apps.

Problem: When I open the start menu initially, all text is white and clearly visible no matter the color or settings. When I open All Apps, the text appears barely visible and in a gray scale that is barely visible no matter what color background I give it. Also I have noticed at random that when I open All Apps, the menu will fade to a darker shade very slowly, making the text nearly IMPOSSIBLE to read. Is there a setting outside of color settings I am missing? How can I change the text color of the apps list, if at all?

A:Start menu text color issue

Open your graphics control panel, find 3D settings, disable the "Application Optimal Mode" if available and reboot. If not, try to turn off everything inside the 3D settings (one at a time) and reboot is needed.

Helo all,

I having a problem with my pc when start the pc....white screen appear then few colors line came out....

izzit my graphic card broken?that is a build in graphic card, can it plug in a new external graphic card then the pc can be running again?

pls give me some suggestion!!

A:PC start with white screen v with few line color

Check the connection from the monitor to the PC. Try another monitor. If no change in the problem, trying a new graphics card is a reasonable thing to do. More information on your system would be needed before suggesting what kind of card would work.

I recentlly had a problem with my PC where when i turned it on the HDD light would just stay on and nothing would start or come up on screen (no beeps but all fans started). I purchased a new CPU (same model and speeds) to see if that was the problem and it still did it so i got a new motherboard (same model) and again still nothing. I changed the power supply with another i have on a PC i KNOW works and its STILL the same. I even used the power switch out of the other PC as well as trying with no ram and different ram but STILL the same problem. I dont understand how that can be possible when EVER part is different from that of what is in the computer. No HDD or sata or IDE drives were connected, no cards or anything but still the thing wont start.

New/different motherboard
New/different CPU
Different Ram
Different case & power switch
NO other cards or devices

So WHY is there STILL the same problem ????????

The stats of the PC are as follows

AMD Sempron 3000+
Asus K8V-VM Motherboard
1GB DDR400 Ram

Any help would be VERY much appreciated because i am COMPLETELY stumped on what the problem is when ALL the parts are different and i cant afford to be spending any more money on the system.

Thank You

I was installing a program... i didn't knew what
changing the 'sid' would do ... apparently it did that during installation ... and now i cannot start my Windows at all. Please help!!

Can u tell me how to fix this? - i tried using 'System Recovery Options' and :

1- Startup Repair, doesn't work (it isnt able to find & repair)

2- System Restore, wont let me restore it at any restore points.

3- System image recovery , doesn't work.

4- Windows Memory Diagnosis, doesn't resolve anything.

5- Command Prompt -> well i was hoping to fix the thing from here. But i don't know how? How can i use this command prompt (what commands) in order to fix this?

When i open it, it starts like this: X:\windows\system32> .... why is a 'x' instead of a 'c' ?

Any suggestions? Help please!

A:Windows 7 doesnt start - sid changed

Hello Erind. It sounds like your System Repair is going to an internal ram disk. You might see if this tutorial helps solve your problems. When you get to Step 11 it goes into more detail about using the "X:\" special provision of the command prompt.

Startup Repair Infinite Loop Recovery

As the tutorial says in the beginning, "the instructions presented within this tutorial must be followed correctly, or you can damage your Windows 7 installation even further." Please keep us informed of your progress.

i bought an antec 650W neopower blue to replace a crappy icute 350w power supply i connected it up and my computer started up fine. then i changed my cpu fan to a zalman flower cooler it then started fine again, but after tighting up all of the screws and closing my case up and starting it up agian my computer doesnt start. there is power to all of the parts as the case fans, drives ,cpu fan, motherboard light are all on, the lights on the front of the case for when you power on the system dont come on thought not sure why. so basically everything appears to be running but i dont get anything on my screen and case lights done turn on, my screen is still working by connecting it up to my laptop so that isnt a problem. i have already tried putting my old power supply back in just to be sure and didnt make a differance.

Please help aint got a clue what is wrong!!!!!
