A:Hp Envy X2 Wont turn on.

Remove any discs, any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices (printers, scanners, external hard drives, and similar). Do not have anything connected to the notebook.

After you have removed all discs and devices, try to turn on the computer. What happens this time?

Hello,  This is my first time on this site and I have been having some trouble with my computer.FIrst of all, my computer is the HP Envy 23 Touchsmart PC and its roughly around 3-4 years old. For all this time, it has been working fine without any problems, but one day I was playing a game on my computer and it randomly shut down. At first, I thought I accidentally kicked a cord, so I made sure every cord was in their sockets tightly. Thinking it was a loose cord that caused it to shut down, I tried to turn it on again. Unfortunately, there was no luck.   In furthur investigation on my computer, I noticed my power cord was making a small beeping/chirping noise every 2-3 seconds with its green light flashing on and off in sync with the green light. What I found interesting was when I unplugged the power cord from the computer, the green light would actually stay solid without it blinking or making any noise. When i replug it back in, it continues to blink and make the small beeping noise again. As a computer amateur, I am afraid to open my computer up and try to fix the problem myself. And I was also hoping for some solutions here on this site before bringing it into a store to get it fixed.  I also updated my computer to Windows 10 if any of that matters. Thank you for your time!

Hello!  I went to put my desktop into sleep mode before bed last night and noticed it had turned off.   No idea why.  I go to turn it on and NOTHING.  No lights, no sounds, no fans, nothing.  The power signal light on the back is flashing green.  I followed some steps from this page http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph06788#AbT4 Unplugging everything from the back and holding  the power button for 10 seconds didnt do anything.  Pushing for 1 second and waiting 10 seconds didn`t do anything.  I took off my side panel for the next steps, but didn`t want to touch anything as I don`t want to harm anything.  I`ve tried another outlet and the light keeps blinking green.  I haven`t had this computer for too long, maybe a couple years or less.  I take good care of it with good antiviruses and making sure to put it to sleep mode everynight, and keep it updated etc.  Looks like the power to the machine is okay since the light is flashing....  is it something internal? Wondering if anyone could help?   Feeling anxious.  Please and thank you!

I understand that you started through the troubleshooting guide for power supplies.  The step about disconnecting internal components is essential to continue the troubleshooting, however.  If you are not comfortable with that, maybe get a more knowledgeable friend to help.  Otherwise it is off to the repair shop.

My HP Envy Desktop, will not turn on.  I tried unplugging it and replugging in.  The green light on the back turns on when I plug it in, however when I press the on switch, absolutely nothing happens

A:Envy won't turn on

Although you did not state an exact model number, the generic PowerSupply (PSU) troubleshooter can be found here. What is bothersome is your description,  as pressing the switch might cause the green light (as stated) to turn - off.  Perform the step-by-step, without skipping anything.  Have the case open, and observe the CPU fan, and rear fan fan.

My fathers HP Envy M6 will not turn on, or charge.   I have the same computer, so I can troubleshoot a few things using mine.  From swapping the simple parts around, I can tell that the battery and charger is still functioning properly.  When plugged in, there is no charge light.  When my good, fully charged battery is put into his computer, it doesn't turn on.  It seems to be compeltely dead. I have tried the reset where you remove the battery, hold the power button for a minute, plug in the power cord and push the power button....it didn't work.  I understand there is a seperate circuit for the power cord.  If this is defective, would it only be charging that is affected?  I put a known fully charged battery in, and still nothing, so if this circuit is defective, would the computer also be non functional on battery power? I'm looking for any suggestions that might help, or point to the defect.

If you leave the power adapter plugged in dose the led stay amber? That means it is charging. Your troubleshooting describes a notebook with too low of a battery charge to boot into Windows. Let it charge for an hour or so before trying to power it on.

I own an HP Envy TouchSmart 15 Notebook PC product number: E0K05UA#ABA and Model: 15-j053cl

I had a couple plastic screw inserts that hold the right side hinge to the top cover of the laptop break due to very high strength of the hinges which caused the top cover of the laptop to pry apart from the base enclosure when opened (a problem many owners of this laptop model have had). Since I was out of warranty I ordered a replacement on Ebay using the correct part number 720570-001 and disassembled my laptop to make the repairs and loosen the hinges while I was at it. I swapped out all parts being careful to note where and how plugs and ribbons were connected so I could put it back together correctly. Now after having it reassembled it will not turn on.

I get a white LED light to turn on when I plug in the power cord AC adapter (should be amber/orange in color to signify it is charging the battery) but no other sounds lights or signs of life. I have attempted to remove the battery and power cord, pressed the power button for 8-30 seconds to drain power and do a reset and then try to power up with plugging in the power cord but it won’t turn on. I also tried to power up by removing one part at a time including the hard drive, two RAM sticks, and wireless card but still not able to turn on. Do you have any ideas for what may be wrong or steps I can take to troubleshoot? Is this possible a mother board issue? Everything was working fine before embarking on this r... Read more

The charging light where the power adapter plugs is comes on when connected to power.  Replaced the internal power adapter and the entire power adapter cord, still nothing even after hard reboot where I tok out the battery and held the power button. Is it worth fixing? I've only had it two years.  Thanks!

Hi, it seems that I keep having problems with my HP envy m6 notebook PC (windows 8). I have had this computer for 2 years and it keeps breaking down on me! I was using it this morning around 9:30 AM, and it was running fine, and it was charged. I turned the computer off, then headed to my class. Once I got out of class I went to turn on my computer and it would not turn on! I tried taking out my battery and putting it back in and turning it on, taking the battery out completely and turn it on with the charger hooked up, I even took out the battery, unplugged it and pressed the power button for a minute then put the battery and charger back in and tried turning it on and still nothing! This is very frusterating as I am a college student and I need this laptop for classes and I can't afford to have my computer break down on me anymore! Will someone please help me?! P.S. My led light when my charger was plugged in was not turning on either, and the power adaptor was not warm when plugged in, I don't know if this is one of the reasons why my computer will not turn on.

Hp won't charge. This is an HP refurb and it has worked fine since I bought it in May, until recently when it suddenly stopped charging. I've checked the charging cable and there is no damage, likewise no damage to laptop input. I've tried it at several outlets in my home to assure it wasn't the issue. This model doesn't have an accessible battery. It is completely dead and will not power on. Should I order a replacement cable or take it in for new battery or repair??

Synopsis: PSU died, replaced PSU with different model, system boots to bios successfully but does not recognize any devices in SATA ports, nor do those devices appear to be getting power. Now can't even get to BIOS, entire PC flicks on and off repeatedly as soon as I turn the PSU on regardless of whether I hit the power button on the front of the computer.

System Specifications

Original PSU that died: SeaSonic M12II 750 SS-750AM 750w PSU
CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz
GPUs: ASUS 670 non-top version, SLI (2x)
MOBO: ASRock Z77 extreme 6
RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 8GB (2 x 4GB) SDRAM DDR3 2133
Optical drive: Sony AD-7280S-0B 24x SATA Internal DVD+/-RW Drive
SSD: SanDisk Extreme 240GB SATA 6.0 Gb-s 2.5-Inch (OS is installed here)
Storage drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB SATA III (This was not connected when power supply died)

Detailed explanation:About a week ago my PSU (Seasonic 750w) died randomly while the computer was left running in sleep . I RMA'd the dead seasonic. In the mean time I happened to come accross an extremely good deal on a new PSU, so I bought it (Thermaltake smart m850w PSU) to have a backup and to get my machine working again.

I hooked up the new PSU to GPUs, CPU, fans, ATX power connector, and to all of the SATA devices, (the SSD, the HDD, and the Optical drive). I made sure to connect the data cables to the SATA devices in the same configuration they were in when working properly. The computer boots suc... Read more

A:PSU died, new PSU, bios wont recognize SATA devices, now wont turn on

I had a similar problem when I had an Antec PSU die on me. After I replaced it, my Biostar mobo's BIOS would no longer retain settings, and both my Pioneer DVD burners were completely dead. Not recognized in the BIOS, they would not acknowledge any discs inserted, nothing worked. I also started getting BSODs pointing to a corrupt BIOS. Replacing the burners didn't help. Putting the Pioneer burners in a new machine didn't work.

It turned out that the dying Antec PSU had wrecked the Biostar's BIOS chip and both Pioneer DVD burners. Replacing the BIOS chip was more expensive than buying a new motherboard, and reflashing the chip wasn't possible because the flash utility told me I already had the latest BIOS version. I ended up trashing the board and buying an ASRock board and Samsung burners.

If you get a new motherboard (or try another known-good working PC), and you connect your present SATA devices and they don't work, then the dying Seasonic may have burnt them out, too.

So the power button on my HP detached from the laptop. Long story short, I was boarding back home and hit a rock and fell forward therefore breaking the corner of the power button and shatter the touchscreen. I was still workin fine, except the fact that the screen was shattered and the power chip was dangling out of the laptop. It survived a few weeks before the power chip fell out. I couldnt find the time to go to a store to see what they could do. the only thing keeping it alive was the charging power but I fell asleep with the laptop on. Lucky me. The laptop was working perfectly. I've had it for some time right now. I have ALOT of important files and documents. I was wondering if there was a short-cut or a way I can get my Laptop on without using the power button. I just want to back-up everything i have in the laptop and make a desicion of getting a new one or fixing this one.

Hi, I have recently purchase (5 days ago) a HP Envy 15-J151SA, but its started to play up already. I had used my laptop yesterday at uni and had run the battery down to about 15%, so I plugged the power pack in as normal and charged the laptop to 100%. When I came to unplug the charger, the laptop just instantly turned off without warning. I thought this was very odd until I tried to turn the laptop back on to no response at all, no lights, no flashing, no nothing. I thought I'd plug the charger back in again and as soon as I plugged the charger in the light on the power button flashed oncw and then when pressed the laptop loads as if nothing had happened. Obviously when I load up apps such the internet and MS Word it says it wasn't closed properly and asks if I want to restore where I left it at. I have looked at other forums who have suggested battery tests (which come back as ok) and tries to recalibrate the battery but this hasn't solved anything, I have tried use the reset function (hold power and the beats button) but I don't have a beats button. It is all up to date with Windows and HP updates.Obviously being a student I paid good money for this laptop and haven't got the time to be messing around taking back to PCWorld where I bought it from.Any help will be appreciated, Thanks Spudy101

I know this has started to be covered already but the discussion was never finished. This was the original post: I have discovered that the keyboard backlighting won't turn off. The backlight on/off key is labeled as F5. I press it, but nothing happens. I've also tried pressing fn+f5, but that doesn't do anything either. I had been leaving the backlight on, but now I want it to only be on when I press the f5 key. Why won't the backlight turn off? I am having the exact same issue. I followed the instrustions of the helper, which were: Can you please get to the Desktop Screen of Windows by pressing the Windows Key and ?D? keys together and then press the F5 key? As you might know, F5 is used for refreshing a Window/Page. Do you see the Desktop Icons getting refreshed? This is to make sure that the F5 key is working or not?If you got confused with that suggestion, please open MS Word and then press the keys ?Fn? and ?F5? together and let me know whether you get the ?Find and replace? Window? I didn't understand the first part, but the second part I got. I opened Word and pressed Fn and F5 together and can confirm that the 'Find and Replace window appeared. However, I have no idea what to do from here or how to fix the problem, please help me. Also bear in mind please that I am 16 years old and know pretty much nothing about computers. Also, I only got this laptop for Christmas 2015 and am not very familiar with everything yet.

It has been great up until recently. i was using my laptop last nite when suddenly it turned off but i didn't think that the battery shoukd have been dead yet. its acting as if the bat is empty and plugging it in just turn on the orange led by the power plug. when i press the power button it flashes for a second but the screen does nothing and it doesn't actually turn on.I'm using my phone to attempt to find a solution atm which is very frustrating. adding to the stress is the fact that i have school work projects and a midterm project on it that I need to finish.Almost forgot to mention it started doing a few other odd things over the last week such as the touchscreen going nuts registering phantom touches endlessly until i close/hibernate/shutdown it.

I have an HP Envy 15T and my right hinge just broke AGAIN.   I had it fixed by HP in March, 2015, and now about a year and a half later, the right hinge is broken again. As other people state, I am very careful with my computer.  Most of the time I leave it sitting on the desk, open, and don't move it much, but sometimes I have to close the display lid and put it in the case to go with me, and today I heard the plastic break inside, the screw is gone, and when slowly closing the display the case pops open at the hinge.  A piece of black plastic came out when I turned the laptop sideways.  Obviously a design flaw, the weight of the screen and hinges being held together by a tiny plaster piece. I wish HP would let me upgrade to another type of computer as this one is obviously going to continue breaking even with my careful use of the laptop. Looking for any and all assistance. Thank you, Mark

Hi, The answer to your question depends on your reasons for wanting to turn off the speakers.  Recently, I noticed that when I plugged my headphones into the headphone output on the Envy 23 I use at work, the music would still play through speakers, annoying my co-workers. I still wanted to be able to listen through headphones, so I plugged the headphones into the speaker output on the back of the computer. Now the music only plays through the headphones. When the compter is viewed from behind, the output is probably near the lower-right corner. It looks just like your headphone output, but has a little icon that looks a little bit like this:(((.))) To listen to your headphones without the speakers playing, plug your headphones into that speaker output on the back of the computer. If, on the other hand, you want to completely shut your speakers down, try this (be warned: this will shut your headphones down as well): Press the Windows + W keys, and type Sound into the search field.Select Sound from the search results. On the Playback tab of the Sound window, double-click Speakers / Headphones. On the General tab of Speakers / Headphones Properties, select Don't use this device (disable) from the Device usage drop-down near the bottom of the window.Click OK

The only thing I ca tell you is that when I press the power button the light next to the power input blinks (3) times and then stops. Nothing more happens. That is all the information I can provide.

So can you please help me find a solution? My warranty has since expired.

The other day I decided to turn my envy off for the first time in roughly a week. I usually just leave it on, plugged into the charger, putting it into sleep mode when im not using it. For some reason, ever since then I have not been able to turn it back on. Whenever I press the power button, The power light blinks. The pattern is a single short blink every 3-5 seconds. This continues until I take the battery out. Sometimes, if I leave it be for a day or so, I am able to get the computer to turn on, but It will not boot. I can hear the fan going, see the lights turn on as they are supposed to, however the screen remains black. I am under the impression that this either a hardware issue, or the CPU is just toast. either of which would suck. Normally I would take to a computer shop and have them look at it, but right now I'm serving in Iraq, so im SOL. And yes, I have tried everything under the sun to get it running. I have taken the battery out and left it out for an extended period, tried turning it on with and without the ac adapter plugged in, tried to perform a hard reset, and a combination of all of them.

Before bios and OS upgrades the laptop would auto disable the main keyboard when rotated 360 deg for flat touch mode. It will no longer do this creating a problem when in touchpad mode. No settings seem to change this.

My computer will not shut completely off when I shut it down. The light for the wireless internet connect does not go black, it turns orange, saying that it is off but now the orange light does not come off unless I hold the power button down.  Also when my computer goes to sleep, when I press a key to turn it back on, it does not turn on. The screen stays black and the wireless internet connection light is orange. It does not boot back up anymore.

Hi, Try the following. Open Settings and select System.  Select Power and sleep, then click on Additional power settings - in the following window, click on 'Choose what the power button does' in the left hand pane. In the subsequent window, first click on 'Change settings that are currently unavailable' ( near the top of the Window ) and then remove the checkmark from the box against 'Turn on fast start-up (recommended)'.  Click the Save Settings button, then close any open windows and restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, download the IMEI driver directly from Intel on the following link, unzip the package and run the installer. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26127/Intel-Management-Engine-Consumer-Driver-for-Intel-NU... When the installation has completed, restart the notebook. When the machine has reloaded, re-enable Fast Start-up and reboot the notebook once again - let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

When plugged in, the power-led near the power connector is white.  Pressing the power button results in a single blink on the power botton LED and a simultaneous blink on the CAPS Lock key.   (when power connector is plugged in or not) Attempts to reset i.e. hold down on the power buton, hold down on the power and mute button,  for 15 seconds etc.   have no effect. Any help would be appreciated.  This computer is 13 months old.

Hi there, I am new to the Forum. I hope you can help me.The original Windows was 8 upgraded to 10.I replaced the bottom cover. The Notebook was working fine before. In the proses I disconnected the CMOSS battery, HD, DVD, WiFi adapter, etc. I have done this before many times. Before assembling all back, as I usually do, I performed a quick test. I connected the LCD, memory, CMOSS battery, on/off button board, keyboard and DC charger. When I pressed the on/off button the led on the on/off board turned on, the CPU fan turned on, the HP logo on the back of the LCD turned on, the LCD screen stays black and the caps lock led start blinking once every 2 or 3 seconds.Because this Notebook was Windows 8 and use UEFI I decided to finish the assembling and try again. It responded the same as before.I can?t believe that the MB is bad; it was OK before replacing the bottom cover. Probably something to do with the UEFI/Windows 10 combination??????What I have tried?1-Hard Reset: no battery, no DC charger and pressing on/off button for 15 seconds.2-Disconected the CMOSS battery for several hours.3-Turning on and hitting the Esc, F12,F11,F10? button many times (all the F buttons).

I followed the instructions listed on this page for "performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset". In particular I followed the "Reset a notebook with a sealed or non-removable battery" section as my laptop has a non-removable battery. However, I did all this to no avail. When I release the power button it produces a brief white light and the F12 button with a "wireless" icon (see attached image below) produces an equally brief orange light simultaneously. I don't know what's going on From what I can gather from this thread, it has to do with the motherboard. Please help me!  I found that this user experienced a similar, if not identical problem with her or his very own HP ENVY Sleekbook 6-1010eo just this month and posted about it, but the thread did not produce an answer. Image of F12 button:

Hello all. First timer here.  I've had my HP Envy for only a year and it won't turn on.  Nothing out of the ordinary happened to it, but when I plugged in the power source and push the power button, the light next to the power input hole flashes 3 times.  I tried letting it sit overnight to see if it was just drained, but still no change.  I took battery out, plugged power cord into laptop and still nothing.  We use wifi as our internet connection and didn't receive and error messages or warnings before this happened. I'm not sure if it's just the power cord itself or something with the laptop. Thanks for any and all help!!! Joe

One night, a couple months ago, I was trying to play a game with a friend when my computer just turned off. It wouldn't turn back on. The next day I was able to get it to come back on and it had some boot message, but I didn't have time to read it before it booted. It was on but wouldn't charge. I turned it off to conserve battery a couple more times before it was permanently dead.I have tried hard reset, but I get absolutely no reaction from my computer.I have replace the internal DC power adapter, but the computer stills doesn't respond (also retried hard reset). So the motherboard should be getting power, but my computer doesn't turn on, charge, or blink. It worked initially after dying, so why doesn't it work now? What kind of options do I have? I would love to send it in to HP to repair (as long as it doesn't cost more than $400), but I have had any luck contacting HP support yet.My computer is out of warranty.

A:hp envy wi fi wont switch on

Hi,I m nit professional, but if you go to command prompt - press win button + x, it will appear black window type there ipconfig /all press enter. You will discover ip addresses of your network cards as well as ip address of your router. Check ip address of your wifi adapter if there is no so your card is disabled. So it means you need to go to network adapter options and check if you did not set up your ip address manually. If so please change it to receiving ip address automaticaly. If this doesn t work and your wifi card has automatic dhcp so go back to command prompt and type there ipconfig /release press enter and after just type ipconfig /renew.this might help to renew your ip address (in case it is stucked somehow)my envy doesn t have any hw button to switch on off network cards.let me know it that helped.Ivanbesides don t let HP support remotely to change config of your computer, because you can experience the same misery support as I did and my envy is not working since June 14th. I reset a second time and the battery was charging and the laptop would run off battery power. this soon stopped working. I continued to troubleshoot. i got it to charge again and run off battery power but now it will again not run off battery power. the battery is now at 74 percent so i know at some piont charging was happening. this is very frustrating. The computer one day turned on saying the cmos was reset and I would have to boot into windows or it would take me to system repair. The computer would remain powered on for a few minutes shopwing 0% charging then it would just die. Once turned off it would show an orange light then a blinking white light then a solid light then maybe an orange light again then it would show no light! So I got a smart charger and it turned on again showing 0% charging then it shut off. Afterwards it appeared to have a solid orange light so I let it charge for a while. Once I attempted to boot it again, it made the power on vibration but still shows a black screen and now no charging indicator is on. I dont know what to do and have no warranty but if someone has a similar problem or a solution to the problem please share.

Hi everyone, just to report I am facing exactly the same issue with the Envy X2 13-inch 2-in-1 (model 13-j020ca) I gave to my wife.It started happening a couple of weeks ago, without apparent root cause, but it seems related with the magnetic connector between tablet and keyboard.  After trying everything posted on this thread I finally gave up and I am considering to buy a cheaper Keyboard/Mouse combo (whatever option is better and reliable than paying an original keyboard replacement that probably will be failing like the many others around the world). What really grinds my gears (sorry BTW for the expression) is using my hard earned bucks, choosing and trusting a global and recognized brand like HP and not getting any official response about this issue. I live in Chile and when I contact local HP support they don't have any idea about this issue (perhaps they don't read their own HP Support forum). At the end of the day I have a half 2-in-1 Notebook which I can only use as a tablet. It's really annoying. I hope HP can give us an official explanation of this issue, in the meantime you guys keep up the good work and thanks for the advices given.

Computer won't start troubleshooting suggestions

Hi,
Try each one in this general order until problem is fixed:
1) check all your connections including your memory, power connectors, cards, fans and ensure the 4-pin connector for your CPU is installed if your system requires it. If you have removed your memory, make sure it is the correct slot(s). Not all slots work. I don't know if this will prevent the computer from trying to boot. At any rate, every motherboard manual details exactly how RAM should be installed for that particular board. If problem persists:
2) test the power connection with a lamp
3) make sure your on/off switch (if you have one) on your power supply is ON
4) remove the cables from ALL drives and restart
5) also remove unnecessary cards and non-cpu fans
6) Borrow a power supply (sufficient power and appropriate 20 or 24-pin connection)

I've seen this happen when a connector is improperly placed. The motherboard and/or power supply can detect an inappropriate power surge and not even start.
Some people have accidentally joined power connectors to each other, usually when hooking up system fans.

Your system can turn on and start booting to the BIOS with only the motherboard, a power supply and I assume some RAM (though I'm not positive the RAM is requied). It does not even need the monitor, although you obviously won't see what is happening but you will hear the power supply start. In general, with such a fault if the... Read more

A:Envy 13 wont recognize additional monitor

Open Device Manager and find the driver that is giving you trouble. Right click it and choose Rollback driver. This will install the previous version of the driver. Sometimes, it?s better to use the default driver in order to avoid compatibility issues. To use the default driver you?ll need to uninstall the current one you?re using and the default one will install itself. To uninstall the driver, do this:Open Device manager and find the buggy driver.Right click it and choose Uninstall.Check Delete the driver software for this device and click OK.Restart your computer.

Hello,As I have seen with many other people on this forum and on the internet in general, it would appear I have faulty hinges on my HP ENVY m6. It started of with one hinge packing its bags and heading to the market and, then 6 months later, the other decided to join it. Now that the screen has been flopping about more than an epiletic llama for a few months, the screen has stopped working. I'm guesing a connection has come loose. My question is, is there anything getting done about these faulty hinges as they are not fit for purpose?  I seen a kid with one of those V-Tec laptops and the hinges were a work of art compared to my HP ones. Thanks in advance,Kerr

Longtime HP laptop owner, I think I've owned nearly 10 of them since the late 90s and have become loyal to HP laptops like many "Apple people" are to their Macs, Iphones, etc and my loyalty was increased after "cheating" on HP and buying ONE Dell laptop (seemed to be a deal too good to pass up at time, bad move!) So, when I recently was ready to do a "Dell Dumping", I clicked the HP box for the brand on my first searches, didn't even want to bother with other brands unless NOTHING looked good and then saw this HP Envy, which I liked for being so thin AND had a backlit keyboard, something I've never had and always kicked myself for not insisting on after buying as I use them often when I'm in bed and not only did this one have a backlit keyboard, its a well lit keyboard and I was SO happy with this new HP! Also should mention this was a "refurbished" laptop bought through Monoprice, I saw the exact same model being sold as refurbished through several sellers and I'm contacting Monoprice next to see if that meant it was an HP refurb unit or Monoprice or some 3rd party job, this was my first refurb laptop or really anything, but have a couple of friends who've sworn by refurbs, for laptops and other electronics. Then, it happened! I believe I had to restart the laptop after it sat on my desk for a while and I didn't know the power strip was off, so I restart it like normal and all I get is the black screen with the blue circular HP logo in the middle with the spinning ... The screen on my new laptop has gone blank on starting up, it shows nothing, i tried a hard reset which didn't fix. The external monitor won't display anything.
It's a HP envy 15-j112tx running windows 8. With a hdmi connection i tried to connect to an external monitor. The monitor was previously using vga to a desktop, i unplugged that and connected my dvi cable to the dvi port. The monitor says check video connection then goes to sleep. I connected the cables with the laptop turned off and again with the laptop already on. The monitor still says check video connection. The connection is secure, it is a new cord. I pressed the F4 button to switch between screens and waited inbetween presses but still nothing.

It is still under warranty. I disabled the nvidia graphics card a few days ago to try n save on power usage, as it also has an intel graphics card. It has worked fine for a few days since i did that.
Now that i've powered it on/off about 5 times the hard drive stops whirring after about a minute, yet the power button light remains on. It no longer turns off when i hold power for even a minute. I dont want to kill the thing.

Can anyone help me, i can't find an answer in previous threads.

The other day I bought some new bits to upgrade my PC with, installed new Mobo and cpu, fine, tried installing new GTX 295, but dont have enough qualifying molex connectors to run it at the mo (lost them) Powered up, worked fine reinstalled vista etc. I then tried to fit my GTX 295 again, with no luck so reinstaled the 8800 i have, tried to power, worked fine, then I smelt a burning smell, near the Dimm slots. Tried to power on again, nothing. My Mobo has LED's on it one red (power from PSU OK) and a green/blue one, to indicate that its running. Only the red light comes on. However if i wiggle tho 20 - 24 pin atx connecter, the blue / green led pulses, the fan spins a fraction and the PSU clicks with the pulses. Tried my other MOBO and same thing happened, powered on, then burning smell, now dead! any ideas.

My Specs are

700w jeantech storm PSU
Intel 8500 dual core
MSI p7n sli LGA 775 1333mhz nforce 750i MOBO
DDR 2 800mhz dimms (4 x 512mb)
BFG 8800 GTS 320mb graphics upgraded to XFX GTX 295

A:My PC wont turn on

Wiggles the cords while it was on is def. a mistake imo.

A:pc wont turn on.

Not much you can do yourself with a laptop. I don't have any ideas. You'll probably need to bring it somewhere. I assume you tried it without any battery, too.

No lights, sounds, or anything?

We are currently running 300 workstations, 190 of them use ONE model (Gateway E4620). There are some that had same problem (about 20). Initially it works great until a while later, it will not power on. I had to unplug the power cord and plug it back in then I will be able to power on. The staff have to do that every time.

What is the possible cause? What should I look for to get it FIXED?

A:PC wont turn on

I would start first by purchasing ONE new power supply with sufficient wattage, amperage, and if possible dual 12V rails. Replace one of the workstation's PSU and see if the problem remains. If the issue is fixed after a bit of trial and testing, order more PSUs for the remaining systems and replace them.

That's a start...next culprit if the PSU isn't the issue, is the mobo(s).

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

What do you mean by "won`t turn on"?

Normally if you try and start a computer without any ram, you will get lot`s of beeps.

A computer won`t post without ram.

I recently got a new computer, a shiny new hp pavilion a1630n, loaded with a Nvidia geforce 6165 LE graphics card. However, i was in the middle of playing a game when the computer shut off, tried to restart, and got as far as powering up and then making a really high pitched beep and then try to restart again, and then it would beep, and so on until i drained the power. Someone told me that this might be a graphics card issue, and it seemed to me like that would make sense since i was in the middle of playing UT2004 when it decided to die.

Does this problem have anything to do with my graphics card, or is it something completely different?

A:Gah!!! It Wont Turn On!!!

There is really no way to tell, and no way that you should be trying to find out, as being a "new computer" it should be under warranty.

I would be onto HP for a repair.

Hi all -I can not get my laptop to turn on (Modeal number 11-k059TU)when i plug the power adaptor into the laptop, the light next to it flickers,(blue) but does not stay illuminated. I have tried holding the power button for ages, etc. I would have to unscrew the back of the laptop to take the battery out....Any suggestions as to how i can get to the root of the problem without sending it in under warranty just yet (2 months until it is time up) Thanks

well i got a new WD 200 gig Hd for christmas, so I put it in as my slave to my 40 gig. First i forget to plug the cpu fan back in, but it was only on for about 2 seconds(big heat sink anyway). then i plugged it back in and walked off to tell that I had it on. when i got back it said (CPU UNRECOGNIZABLE) so i rebooted. It was stuck on detecting IDE drives... so I made sure to see if the ide cables were tight. then when i plugged my stuff back in the pc turned on for a split second, then it turned back off. Then i tried again and nothing happened. i looked in the case for inspection, but everything was Okay. I tried again and it turned on so that the fans made about one turn and the LEDs didnt even turn on. This is where im stuck.

Here are my specs:
Abit nf7-s v2 mobo
Athlon XP 2400+ (no OC) cpu
512MB pc2100 ram (256x2)
DVD-RW and DVD-ROM as master and slave on one channel
40gig Seagate on master and 200gig WD on slave
GEforce 2 agp4x 32mb vid card
did i miss anything?

thanks a bunch and merry christmas

A:New HD...pc wont turn on

Jonesy,

This was an 'ungood' occurrence!

This may have been sufficient to turn your chip into a "CPU UNRECOGNIZABLE"

Two Seconds with no fan at start up is a lot...hopefully the system was able to shut itself off in time as protection?

The symptoms you are now experiencing are indicative of an overheating problem OR a 'cooked' CPU.

Hello, my other pc wont turn on. Well I suppose it does turn on but makes a horrible 'beep, beep, beep' sound continuously. First it (the pc) would cut off by its self and when rebooted we would have a error message that read:

Durning the last boot-up your systems hung for an improper CPU speed setting. Your system is now working in safe mode. To optimize the system performance the system and reliability, make sure the CPU speed conforms to the specifications of your CPU.

It was doing the beep thing off and on. And when giving it time or after multiple times of turning it off and on the pc would finally boot up and continue with the above message. I then would default everything and it would be ok at least for the time being until it decided to cut off by itself again.
Anyways, my pc seems to have a ghost in it or a mind of its own. So could someone please help me out in trying to exsplain this to me? I would greatly appreciate it.

So everytime I turn on my computer it tries to start but then it goes to a blue screen and says "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer"
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer, if this screen appears again, follow these steps:
The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI complicant, Please contact your system vendor for and updated BIOS.
Technical information:
***STOP: 0X000000A5 (0X0000000000000011, 0X0000000000000008, 0XFFFFFFFFFFD1B018, 0X0000000020120913)

hello,

i have a Compac Presario S5100UK, its about 3 or 4 years old now i suppose,

the computer was switched on and i was listening to some music on media player while i was giving the place a tidy, but i accidentially knocked the wall socket switch off when i was hoovering and the whole thing powered down.

i left is powered down a good ten mins b4 turning the wall socket back on, but now the PC wont turn on at all.

on closer inspection there is a small green light on the front of the machine that is flashing on and off quite quickly, there is also a little green light on the back of the machine near to the power cable input socket and something inside is clicking as as the little light is fllashing.

i'v had a search on the sight and came accross this thread

http://forums.techguy.org/multimedia/692873-pc-won-t-turn-green.html

which appears to be the same or similar problem tho under different circumstances, but there was no definate solution to the problem.

i tried leaving it unplugged over night and un/re-plugging all the leads in the machine, which is all i feel safe doing with my little knowledge of pc's, i presume it must be a power problem as its not switching on, but the flashing light makes me think that power is getting so far...?

so any tips or advice to help me get the machine going again would be greatly appreiciated

thanks for reading.

k. duck.

A:PC wont turn on.

If there is a switch on the back of the PC turn it off and then plug the main cable into the wall socket....then turn the switch on the back of the PC making sure all the cables are plugged in all the way....

If you get the same problem then it could be your PC power supply...which are inexpensive and easy to change.
