ProBook 450 G1 docking

Q: ProBook 450 G1 docking

I have a HP Probook with a docking station, however I am experiencing a lag between the laptop and what appears on the monitor. The lag is not there when I work on the laptop directly. Any suggestions to rectify this?

Hi!
I have a Latitude E7740 that runs Ubuntu Xenial (16.04). I dock it to a "Dell EURO2 Advanced E-port II" docking station.
If I boot it in the docking station, everything works fine, and I find all my two DVI-connected monitors.
However, if I undock, then put it into the dock again while running, it fails to enable the screens. I'm using a script called autorandr for switching between display modes - it uses xrandr. It tries to run:
xrandr --output DP1-1 --gamma 1.0:1.0:1.0 --mode 1920x1200 --panning 0x0 --pos 0x0 --rate 59.95 --reflect normal --rotate normal --output DP1-2 --gamma 1.0:1.0:1.0 --mode 1920x1200 --panning 0x0 --pos 1920x0 --rate 59.95 --reflect normal --rotate normal
But the X server responds with:
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)  Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)  Minor opcode of failed request: 21 (RRSetCrtcConfig)  Serial number of failed request: 48  Current serial number in output stream: 48
Running this exact command after booting in the dock is doing the right thing, but after undocking then docking, it doesn't work.
Any ideas here? I have updated to the latest BIOS version.
Problem also reported in launchpad with lot's of debug info, here:
bugs.launchpad.net/.../1585884
Autorandr script is here: github.com/.../

File Transfer - Help Wanted

It will be from the old computer running Windows XP to a new computer running Windows 7.

The old computer has files which I have accumulated over a number of years, it is a mixture of those used rarely, used frequently and junk.

The chances are some of the files will never be used again, but they just might be wanted at some future date. I am therefore reluctant to scrap anything. Neither do I want to put a lot of possibly unnecessary files on the new computer.

I need to be able to search the old hard drive and recover a file if it is wanted.

The old computer is about 9 years old and is slow and may not be worth upgrading.

I now have two computers and one monitor and I am not sure what would be the best route.

I have not used a Docking Station before but thought this could be a possibility, on Amazon I found:

There are many USB 3.0 port replicators around, depending on how do you want to use the dock, the following one would be more suitable for your machine:               http://www8.hp.com/us/en/products/oas/product-detail.html?oid=5278439 Regards.

Jumanji discovered an interesting bit and I thought others should be aware.

This might be old news to some. I found one article to exemplify the issue, but there are sure to be more. While this article refers to 3TB drives, the same caution applies to 4TB and greater drives. Basically older docking stations do NOT have address translation for drives above 2 TB - they can only access 2 TB. Problems arrise when data exceeds that limit and data is over written at the base address corrupting the drive.

This is why the first 3TB drive shipped last summer as an external model--a switch from the usual pattern of internal units shipping first.

Although you shouldn't have any issues attaching a prepackaged 3TB external drive, you may have problems if you buy a 3TB internal drive and try to add it to a USB-connected enclosure yourself. Read the fine print: Many of the bare enclosures say they support 3TB, but not all of them do.

On a seperate note, I will be offline until I can arrange Internet connectivity. I don't know when the cutoff will be, but it is in the next few days - definitely by months end.

A:HDD > 2 TB and docking stations

I work out something for Internet connectivity. I thought it would be disconnected last Thursday, I was notified today that the service would end by close of business Tuesday.

I'll stop in when I'm near an open router (cafe, friends, library) but can't devote much time to issues. Once our monetary situation improves, I will contract with a provider.

I have plenty of these docks in my company, and have had a few god bad. That would explain the LAN net working, but your wireless and air card shouldn't be affected in any way. Are you saying that if you are connected to your network by wireless, and you dock your laptop...then connection drops and the card disables?

Hi,
I got the BSOD screen a couple of times yesterday. I managed to replicate the issue multiple times - happens when the laptop isn't docked properly. Maybe graphics card related, but not sure. I think there may be dump files from previous blue screen crashes - that might be a separate issue - don't think it's related.

I've attached the zip file - hope you guys can help with the recent/ past crashes. Thanks

So my wife disconnected my laptop from the docking station to hook up hers (that right, of course I'm blaming her for what follows). Mine was on at the time and I don't know what she did in regard to turning off the unit etc. Her computer worked fine but now when I try to hook mine back up it will not boot up all the way or display on the monitor past a point in the boot up.

My laptop boots up just fine when not in the docking station and I can even "Hot Dock" it. When I Hot Dock it, it displays on both the laptop display as well as the monitor. But when I shut the lap top screen I lose both images. When I try to dock the way it always used to work I, 1) dock it, 2) turn it on, 3) mid-way through the boot-up (about the time it usually asks for me to enter a pssword and hit o.k.) the screen goes blank. Hitting keys and wiggling the mouse does nothing.

Any thoughts on what I should try next? Thanks in advance for any help. Mark

Hi,I've just got a Zbook 15 G2 and currently looking for docking station as I mainly use it with combination of monitor + keyboard/Mouse + speaker in my desk.Since this laptop is quite large with its equally unwieldy power brick I figured out I'd better go with a docking for easy daily attach/detach. http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetHTML.aspx?docname=c04287869I think I need the basic dock (not the advance one)So a few internet searches suggest the suitable dock for HP Zbook 15 is the one with 230W power (it makes sense since its factory power brick is 150 watt), but I also see a the 90W one is offered considerably cheaper.. and I get a vague notion that the additional power in the 230W is simply to allow you to successfully operate more peripheral items at a single time.Since I'm not going to connect and/or daisy-chain any power hungry device, is there any chance 90W docking would be able to hold?Regards,Razz

Purchased a Winstars Docking Station at Maplin today (see link below for product details).

The box says XP, Vista and W7. A techy at Maplin assured me that it was a "bog-standard" USB hub and that it would work with no problems with W8.1 (and it is a W8.1 computer that I want to use it with).

No, it does not work with W8.1 (see Screenshot attached for error message)

There is nothing wrong with the unit itself. Tested on other computers (XP, Vista, W7) - installs automatically, visible in Explorer, visible in Disk Management, works with all types of disk media. Perfect - except that it does not work with W8.1.

I have updated the Driver. Rebooted. Tried different USB ports. Same error message.

Before I take it back to Maplin does anyone perhaps have a solution.....

Hey guys,

Working with a Dell Latitude E6410, upgraded to Windows 7, i5 processor, solid state drive. When running the computer on a docking station, it works perfect for 5-10 minutes. Goes though encryption software fine, boots Windows fine. Can log user in, load browsers, play audio through the docking station, etc etc. After a short while, it randomly goes into blue screen.. Error: "IRQL Not Less or Equal"..., and reboots. Replaced motherboard, problem still exists. Reformatted solid state drive and reloaded Win 7... still happens.

Keep in mind this is ONLY when plugged into the docking station. Also blue screens on other docking stations as well.

Any idea's on what this could be? I can't get the exact codes from the BSoD right now, but any insight on what to look for would be great.

Thanks

A:BSoD ONLY when on Docking Station?

Go to the Control Panel \ Administrative Tool \ Event Viewer and check the logs there for any errors that have occurred for the date and time of the BSOD. If you find the error in the logs you can copy and past the error here.

Hi!
I have photoimpact x3 and just started using it to make cards, stationery and such back in August. I figured I should take some online class to learn more about PIx3.
I am in a wonderful class. We go at our own pace. In one tutorial they showed how to move (dock) the different panels. Well I cant get my panels back where they are suppose to be.
I try to put the easy palette and such back in its original spot but when I close all the panels by clicking on the little arrow....none of the panels move because they are not in the area they should be and I cant figure out how to lock them back in place.
Also when I moved them around I lost the ability to minimize each window.
Could you help me please?
Thanks And God Bless!

Just got docking station, D9Y32AA, "2013 UltraSlim Docking Station". Connecting computer seemed to be straightforward and simple enough. Just wondering if there are any hidden capabilities inherent in the device that I might exploit. I am not considered a "power user" though I do use most of the MS Office Apps to include PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel and Word. Also, will turning off the power at the Docking Station keep the computer's internal battery from charging? Is there danger in the battery being damaged by staying connected to the docking station power too long? Thanks for your thoughts, CW

Hello,
When I put my laptop on its docking station, a Autoplay window pops up and searches through my entire external hard drive. Is there a setting that I'm missing? I can't seem to get it to stop doing that. Sometimes a window will popup asking me how to play the Hard drive. I've tried None and Automatic. I thought None would have stopped it from searching through the hard drive. Any ideas? Thanks

A:Laptop searches through ext HD when docking

Windows XP is designed to "autoplay" any USB device that you attach. When you're docking your notebook, it is recognizing that the usb device is attached and letting you know, as a convenience. Obviously to some (i.e. you), that intended convenience is an inconvenience- welcome to Windows!

Do you have an option on the autoplay window that says "Always choose this option" or something like that? Click that checkbox and select the "Do nothing" option in the list. That should be the easiest cure.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to which docking station I should use so that I can get my 34 wide screen monitor connected to the Elite X2 with full resolution, 3440x1440. I was looking at the Wireless Doc with wigig but was told this and the connected doc would only support the max resolution of the Elite x2. I'm confused as the wireless doc should have a graphics device in it to achieve what you need. I have looked at other company's docks as well and I'm now just......perplexed and please help.

I have been having all kinds of trouble accessing disks in docking stations through USB hubs and connected direct to my computer.

The two docking stations concerned are:

Coltech CE606CU3 USB 3.0 HDD Dual Bay Docking Station for 2.5" and 3.5" SATA hard drives
Inateck Dual Two Bays USB 3.0 Hard Drives External Docking Station

The two hubs I have used are:

EasyAcc® USB 3.0 7 Port hub bus-powered and self-powered 2-in-1 hub
Inateck® 5-Port USB 3.0 Hub (USB 3.0 4-Port Hub + One 5V 2A Charging Port)

I am using plain SATA internal disks in the docking stations, the latest of which is a WD Green 4TB Desktop Internal SATA Hard Drive.

I have tried every conceivable combination:

one disk in one slot of docking station
two disks in both slots
both of the above connected via both hubs and connected direct to the computer (always using USB 3 ports)
switching on docking station after every possible method of connection
switching on and then connecting docking station after making every possible connection

And the result is always the same. The longest period I have been able to access any disk in any docking station is less than an hour, and then it disappears from Computer and from Disk Management - usually while doing a long backup. (Backup is the reason I bought the WD disk.) But the problem relates to any disk I use, in both docking stations and via both USB hubs or connected direct to computer.

Recently, when switching on the (connected) Coltech docking station I ... Read more

I received my brand new T460s last week, and have had an issue with it not being able to boot if i have it docked (not usb, but using the docking connector). Scenario: From a turned off state, i plug it in to the docking(also brand new).I then press the power on button on the dockingNothing happens. But if i undock the laptop, and open the display, i can see that it was stuck on the very first boot screen. After undocking it proceeds to boot up windows. All drivers and Bios is up to date. Anyone else having this issue?

A:T460s Docking issue

Hello, I have a similar problem on two T460S laptops I've rolled out to users (myself as one of them). This is what happens with me, it might not be the same issue but anyway....... I don't know whether some of the older docking stations are not fully compatible (as these have VGA output which the laptop is supposed to not be capable of outputting because of the newer processor/gpu type)??? But, if I power on the computer from scratch while docked (and not resuming like Win10 does by default, but instead a complete power on) the external screen(s) works fine. If the laptop is docked while already on (or in the windows 10 power off "hibernate") the computer won't use the screens. I open the laptop and its just outputting to the built in screen. I have found so far that if I want to use the external screens, the only way to do this is boot the laptop up while docked. Very frustrating!! If you can, try turning off Windows 10 "fast boot", this will shutdown your computer properly when you press shutdown, instead of hibernating.... Then when you power on your computer while docked, your external screens should work. This obviously isn't a fix, but might help you out in the short term until a proper fix is available! Let me know how you get on. and.. any help would be appreciated here! Best regards James

A:T61 docking station worth it?

I'll throw in my  two cents on this one.  I have both the 2505 and 2504 docks.  I much prefer the 2504's because they have a DVI video and a separate audio output that the 2505 doesn't,  besides they both sell for about the same used.  The DVI output allows a digital video signal that hooks up directly to a monitor with same or I use a DVI to HDMI cable to hook up to a HDMI port.  I have speakers already hooked up to the audio and the mouse and keyboard hooked to the USB ports on the dock, and a dedicated, to the dock, power adapter.  This allows me to plug in the laptop, power up and everthing boots up without even having to raise the laptop lid by setting up the video to go to the monitor screen.   I have them set up in multiple locations so can move my laptop easily to areas where I want to use it for:  music, internet, videos, etc.  These docks are readily available and inexpensive. As far as heat both docks are designed to raise the laptop off the surface and have venting to allow air to go underneath the fan area as well as air vents in the upper corner where the fan is located.  I am not sure how effective this is but it does seem to be a well thought out design so I am sure it does some good but probably not enough to prevent the well documented NVIDIA issue.  I have both laps with the Intel gpu and NVIDIA and none have failed so far. I am running Windows 7 on... I have two users who both Dell Latitude laptop computers. When they power up the computers, they are able to set their graphics to the desired level (1280x760). If they power up the computers while on a docking station they are able to set the graphics to a different level (1024X768) and this works fine.

The problem they have is if the machine is already powered on (1280x760) and the dock the system, the graphics on the external monitor will go to 800x600, totally disregarding what they had set the graphics for. They are able to change it back and it is fine again.

Why does this only occur when the machine is powered on already and they are trying to dock it? Is there some setting that needs to be changed?

Ok, so I've docked my taskbar on the lefthand side of my screen so I can fit more windows in the taskbar without them all getting smooshed together and without having to turn on taskbar groups and so I can still have a pretty square viewing area. It has been working out great for me so far except for one thing. From time to time when I maximize the window the window maximizes to right size but it docks the window to the left side of the screen so its under the taskbar and you can see a strip of the desktop on the right side. When I minimize then restore it it fixes the problem but it happens every time I maximize a window, even if it was one that I just previously minimized and then restored... is there any way to fix this problem so windows maximize the way that they should??

are there drivers or settings, something or another OS all together
I've never owned a dell or docking station
any info out there??

Yes there may be drivers for the docking station
Have a look here: Dell Support

Also you could just fix the power plug, but if its on the laptop side (likely) You will need to fully dismantle the laptop; remove the Mobo; and try resoldering the plug back to the motherboard (basically the solder points can break with age and physical abuse )

We are looking for a docking station which is able to drive several digital monitors. At the moment we are using FHD displays, this woun't be a problem with any docking solutiion available. To be future proof we are looking for a solution which is able to run more than one monitor with 2K or 4K resolution. Lenovos "performance dock" is really expensive, but it's limited to a DP 1.2 uplink (two 4K only with 30Hz).There is an Thunderbolt 3 solution for connecting two 4K monitors using Display Port, but there's no USB/audio output on this device. Are there any advanced docking stations available? Is there a P50 owner with practical experience using TB3 docking solutions?

I'm reopening the question by Henreg. I just ordered a Dell Inspiron 15R and want to use it to replace my desktop. There are so many docking stations and each review points out reasons to get that one. What is the best one with enough ports to support a monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse, subwoofer with speakers, a printer with at least one open for camera, external hard drive, etc.?

A:Inspiron 15 docking ststion

Docking stations don't add ports but instead provide a quick, single point of connection between a laptop and all peripherals. Targus used to make a universal dock, but I'm not sure if they still do. Generally laptop manufacturers only make them for business laptops, and the Inspiron 15R is a consumer model.

If you have a lot of USB peripherals that have to all be connected simultaneously, you'll need a good quality USB hub. Not sure about speaker support. The audio chip has to support the type of speakers you're trying to connect. I've never connected a set with a subwoofer to a laptop.

Is there a reason you bought a laptop instead of a desktop? You bought a mid to low-end laptop but seem to want some rather high-end features.

My graphics card is a nVidia GeFource 880GT, 512MB, SLI

In the process of setting up the system, I must have accepted some setting that often causes windows (particularly daughter windows) to fly to the edge of either monitor 1 or monitor 2.

Anyone know how to stop this? My eyes are red from looking!

A:Auto-docking windows

My bad ... never closed out this thread. I have nVidia graphics adapters (an 8800GT and a 9500GT) and they are configured by nView Desktop Manager. Under "Windows" it has an option to "Snap window edges by:" ... this allows "No window snapping" or a number of pixel options to allow your windows to snap a fixed distance from the window edge. I changed that to "No window snapping" and, surprise, they don't snap to the edges anymore. I suspect it pays to read all this stuff in your control panels. At one time I must have thought it cool ... that wore off quickly. Sanity restored.

At my work, I have a laptop that is hooked to a docking station. I've only been here for a little while, so yesterday was the second time that I undocked it. The first time, I did not use a power cord when I undocked it. It worked fine when out of the station. I used a power cord the second time. Before I left work, I put it back in the docking station, and I left. This morning, the laptop wouldn't start (in the docking station). I removed it from the station and tried to start it without the station. It still wouldn't start. Finally, I used the power cord and it began charging and would also start. After a while, I tried putting it back in the docking station, but it still would not charge. So right now, I am undocked and charging with the power cord.

Can anyone help me with this?

If you are running Win 7 Pro or Ultimate, you can try downloading and installing XP Mode and see if the USB drivers for it work within XP Mode.

How old is your Rex? I had a Rex Pro around 1996 or so. Mine was so old that it synced via a serial cable, not USB. Neat little gadget but newer PDAs and smartphones I've used since then are far more capable.

our BIOS is updated to the latest version. also a message comes up when the ac adapter connected to the docking station before the windows boot up saying the ac adapter won't charge :()
Appreciate your help.

A:E7240 and docking station

Hi 1erans,
I’m sorry to hear that, thanks for the post though! I have not seen this issue reported by other E7240 users so I would like look into this for you. Could you clarify a few things:

Are all 200xE7240 systems are having exactly the same issue on dock or if the problem changes system to system?

Are all systems using the same model AC adapters / Batteries?

When USB fails, are both system and dock USB ports not functioning?

Have you been able to note the exact error message seen on the system pre OS?

Thanks,

The network card (Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet) on the docking station for my Z60m went out (does not show link at all, always shows unplugged). I tried removing/reinstalling with the most recent driver, but no luck. Is there any way to active the internal NIC while plugged into the docking station? That would at least give me a work around, although slightly inconvienant. Thanks.

Hello all. Please help! I have a Dell inspiron 700m running WinXP connected to a Belkin F5U216 docking port, VGA pass through to a full size monitor, full size USB keyboard. The serial and parallel ports on the docking station do not work. If I go to device manager there is an error , failed to load, whatever you call it next to USB-serial controller. I don't know if it has anything to do with the docking station but I tried re-installing the driver for it to no avail. The Belkin tech support people haven't been of any help. Does anyone have any ideas about this. Much appreciated.

Regards,
Andy

I bought an extra docking station for my EliteBook 745 G3. It was advertised as a D9Y32AA but is really a D9Y32UT. Googled it and most are saying it's the same but one difference I see is that the AC adapter plugin has a larger plugin to the dock than the one I got with the computer. Didn't see that mentioned elsewhere. Is it ok to use the dock with the different plugin?

I have a client that has a hp laptop and accompanying docking station. The usb ports on the docking station suddenly stopped working. I replaced the docking station with a brand new one, worked for about 2 weeks, then crapped out again. While in the docking station, the hp usb ports work fine, only the usb ports on the docking station are out of order.

JohnWill gave me a usb hack about a year ago, and I ran that, and while it then recognized the the 'new hardware', it stated I had to reboot; rebooted, and nothing showed up.

Any ideas? The hardware is not local, but if push comes to shove I can get the make and model of it.

I'm thinking about getting a docking station for my laptop, but I'm running into some confusions. First off, I don't know if my laptop is a ZBook 15 or a ZBook 15 G2. I think it's a ZBook 15 because it says "HP ZBook 15" on the bottom without the "G2" suffix. Also, it was issued to me by my university in August 2014, a month before the ZBook 15 G2 was announced. So unless my university was able to get early access to the G2's, it must just be a ZBook 15. Second, I don't know which docking stations are compatible with the ZBook 15. And I don't know what the merits of each of these docking station models are. I use a second monitor a lot with my laptop, which connects by VGA. So that's one thing I'd want the docking station to be able to support. Other than that I'd just want a bunch of USB ports, an audio port, and other stuff that I think is standard for a docking station. So, what advice can you give me?
