[SOLVED] Printing - text gets cut off at sides

Q: [SOLVED] Printing - text gets cut off at sides

Just upgraded to Win7 from XP.

I've got an HP Deskjet D4360. I downloaded the latest print drivers from HP and installed all that.

However, printing anything without margins set (EG Emails from Outlook, or Web pages) the text on all four sides of the document will be cut off. See below - the first couple of letters are missing from the left of all paragraphs. And the "1" is missing form the "Page 1 of 1" on the right.

So it looks like Windows just need to scale down the whole page a bit....

Any suggestions???

A: [SOLVED] Printing - text gets cut off at sides

If you go into the printer main panel there should be an option to align or to realign. sometimes it's just two dots that move and you stop it when they're right over each other. Is this a new printer?

I have had an HP5 printer with a duplex unit for several years and I used to be able to set it to print duplex (both sides) by default. Since upgrading to Windows 2000 from Windows 98 about two years ago, I cannot get the printer to default to printing both sides. I must select this in the software every time I print.

I have the latest driver and I have set "DUPLEX=ON" on the printer's console. Still, it ignores my setting.

Any solution for this?

I have created a document in MS Word 2010 that has a textbox with a background color. When I print the document to my printer (have tried multiple printers) or print to PDF, the textbox prints but the text itself does not print. (see attached image)

Upon further investigation of the PDF, I found that the text is actually layered below the textbox. For some reason, Word is printing the textbox on top of the text itself.

When I take the textbox, copy it to a new document, and try to print, it prints correctly.

I have also checked my printing preferences and I believe all the settings are correct.

Does anybody know how to fix this?

First, is it possible to print on both sides of a sheet of paper in Word 2000?
Second, is it possible to print on both sides of a sheet of paper in Word 2000 using Mail Merge?
The Microsoft website and Word 2000 help did not offer any solutions. Thank you.

A:Word 2000 Printing Both sides/Mail Merge

First of all, when you say print two sided, do you mean in one pass through the printer? That depends on the printer: is it a duplex printer and do you have the appropriate driver for it? If you're not sure, you can put the make and model here and we can probably figure it out. Generally, you can just go to the web site or the owner's manual for its capabilities.

Second, a document, mailmerge or otherwise, does not care whether you print it one- or two-sided.

I have an HP Photosmart C6380 all in one printer and all of a sudden it stopped printing text, but still printed pictures. I checked the ink, that was fine. I checked all the obvious things I thought it could be, but they were fine. I reinstalled my printer but it still doesn't print text. I can't figure out what it could be. Last year I bought a new computer with Vista on it and the printer I had wasn't compatible so I bought this new one. It's only a year old. My settings or something had to get messed up but I checked all that too and set everything to default. I hope someone can help me out here.

I am running Livemail on Windows 7. I recently changed the text size through the "View - Text size" tab to "larger" to get a better read of an email. I don't know if there is any link, but now when I print emails they all print in a large text size, (which is using a lot of paper) even though the "view - Text size" tab shows the view as "Medium"!
To print I use "File", "Print" and click the relevant printer. It does not make any difference as to which printer I use, the results are the same.
How do I resolve this problem?

A:Solved: Printing email and text size

Does "Livemail" have File - Page Setup... as in the attachment? If so, maybe an adjustment to "Scale" will be appropriate.

Ok this is wierd I have a client using Office 2007 pro and some of her docs that she recently updated and the problem is when she prints the docs text that she deleted is printing over the top of new text she inserted into the doc.

Now when you have said doc open in WORD the deleted text is not there in any view and does NOT show in "print preview".

I opened said doc with WORDPAD and the deleted text shows up at the bottom so its still in the word doc somewhere imbedded so it prints over the top of the actual text in the doc.

Any thoughts this has me baffled.

Remove hidden data and personal information from Office documents - Excel - Microsoft Office

How do I find and remove hidden data and personal information in my Office documents?

You can use the Document Inspector to find and remove hidden data and personal information in Office documents that were created in Office Word 2007, Office Excel 2007, Office PowerPoint 2007, and earlier versions of these Office programs. It is a good idea to use the Document Inspector before you share an electronic copy of your Office document, such as in an e-mail attachment.
Open the Office document that you want to inspect for hidden data or personal information.
Click the Microsoft Office Button, click Save As, and then type a name in the File name box to save a copy of your original document.
Important It is a good idea to use the Document Inspector on a copy of your original document because it is not always possible to restore the data that the Document Inspector removes.
In the copy of your original document, click the Microsoft Office Button, point to Prepare, and then click Inspect Document.
In the Document Inspector dialog box, select the check boxes to choose the types of hidden content that you want to be inspected. For more information about the individual Inspectors, see What information can the Document Inspector find and re... Read more

I created a table using Excel, and from that table I created a line chart using the Chart Wizard.

After the chart was complete, I then added data using the drawing tools "add text icon."

When I want to included the data table when printing, the text that I added prints fine.

Now here is where the problem occurs. if I just select the chart, the text disappears, and if I do a print preview or print, the text doesn't show up. The text that I added is behind the chart in a cell. I tried to bring it forward but that doesn't work.

What am I doing wrong?

If I create the table in Power Point, and then add the text, everything prints fine. I don't understand why it works in Power Point and not in Excel.

Thank you for your help.

A:Excel-Printing Text that was added to a Chart using the Drawing Tools "Text Icon"

When you select a chart in Excel, that becomes the print range. I think you'll be better off copying the chart to it's own worksheet and resizing to desired size...and of course, carry the text box(es) along with it.

Sometimes when trying to print a document, specifically from Excel, we are experiencing "missing text" that is in the document, you can see it in Print Preview, but it will not print. Cells around this text print fine. Cells are not merged, even copied to a new workbook will not print, so workbook corruption shouldn't be it. I've checked all the cell options, used the format painter to replicate cells that print correctly, nothing. Not everything is affected, it is spotty at best, but annoying. Any ideas?

Specs: Windows XP, sometimes 98, Office 2000. Oki 7200C Printer

A:Missing text when printing?

You say the problem only occurs sometimes? Has the workbook in question ever printed correctly? Does this problem only relate to information contained in this specific workbook or have you seen this problem with other non-related workbooks in the past? Have you tried printing the workbook in question from another workstation or even to another printer? Have you tried selecting all the cells in the range you would like to print and choosing "Print Selection." from the file --> print menu ?

What is contained in the cells (text, number, etc.) Is there anything different about what is contained in those specific non-printing cells than the other cells in the workbook (i.e. - different font, etc.) Are these non-printing cells grouped close together or spread out across the workbook page and are the missing cells close to the page margins?

Are you sure that your printer in question is compatible with XP and the most current drivers are being used?

Hello. I have a problem with printing text. I have Windows XP, and have a Windows Cd-rom called Personalities and Profiles, the Playboy Interview Collection. Besides having visual and audio elements on it, it mostly includes a series of about 400 interviews in text form. The CD doesn't allow me to directly print the text using Ctrl+P or File-Print. What needs to be done is indirect printing by first copying and pasting to a separate notepad, and then printing from the notepad.

Normally, I would select text from the interview page displayed(Ctrl+A), then Copy using (Ctrl + C) then click on the notepad and paste (Ctrl + V). From the notepad, of course, I would print out the copied and pasted text(Ctrl + P).

However, I can't get out of the starting gate, because I am UNABLE TO SELECT the page of text. Using "Ctrl + A" or "Edit-Select All" are not working out as options. I presume this is because while this program is a Windows based CD-rom, it is NOT a Microsoft OFFICE program.

Can you please help me?(Playboy helped me with the specific print instructions several years ago, but their tech support dept. closed and no one there can help me anymore.)

If you can help me, can you please give me the steps that include not only selecting, but also copying, pasting, and printing from the notepad?

Thank you for your consideration-

I have a client who is having troubles with when he prints, he gets garbled text occurring.
I suggested he try uninstalling drivers and installing latest drivers (which I believe he's tried) but it hasn't helped. He then informed me that he had same troubles with his previous printer.
This is what information he has given me so far:
When printing, garbled text is printed.
A new printer was bought & it's still happening.
The old printer is a Canon iP3500 and the new one is Canon MG5460.

As far as I am aware, the issue is only printing particular files but am not sure of this is restricted to PDF?s. It is intermittent in that you can print a file and it will be garbled and then you print it again and it is ok.
Computer is running Windows Vista. Any suggestions as to how to fix this issue?

In a well known newsletter this week the following tip was printed:

Q. Is there a way to highlight and print sections of a document that
are not consecutive? For instance, if I highlight the first paragraph,
but want to omit the second paragraph and then highlight the third, I
lose the highlighting on the first paragraph. How can I highlight and
print just the ones I want, and not print the others?

A. Windows has an easy way of doing this. Highlight the first
paragraph. Then, hold down the Ctrl key and highlight the third
paragraph. That will leave both paragraphs highlighted.

Continue on, highlighting just the paragraphs you need. You can use
the same procedure to highlight individual words or phrases.

I tried this and the ctrl key doesn't make this work for me. I cannot keep multiple (non-sequential) paragraghs highlighted. Is this just me? Any suggestions?

I am working on a system and have run into a problem outside my normal area. I have a system that reads text files and makes a report. This runs on a server that is old. We are working to move the system to a server running a current version of server software. Everything seems to work with one major problem. The host system, a mainframe, sends the data as a print file. The existing system captures the print stream and puts it into a text file. The text files are automatically named with a sequence number. There are multiple files created with one piece of data to be processed in each file.

The new server is not creating the files from the printer stream. The software is identical but the change to the new server has broken something. I have set up a text file to capture the data but it rejects the connection according to the mainframe log.

What I am looking for is how to set the printer up on Windows server 2008 64 bit version. I have Blue Zone and can consider other software. The older version of this used Reflections as a printer emulator.

I beleive this is quite common, & would like to be reminded how to correct it.
When the lines of script are taking up about 90% of the width of the document I am printing, I lose abut a half-inch of each line, making it difficult to read. Recently, I printed off a 12 page document, & had to go back to the screen & go through every line, pencilling in the missing words/part words, it had to be done there & then as Iwas due at a meeting, & needed the print-out as notes.
Can someone out there help please?

Ok, I have a set of PDF files going to be posted to the web. They should have a background when viewing, but we would like to have the documents print WITHOUT the background.

Now, I see that I can add a background to the PDF (via the Documents menu option) and check options to view the background and NOT print the background. This option lets the user browse for a file and apply this file as a background.

The problem is, when the document closes the program ask if the changes to the file should be saved. If the changes are saved, it adds the background file TO the current file and pretty much merges it. When the file is opened back up, the option to view but not print is no longer applicable because it has merged this background into the file.

So my question is, is there a way to have a file viewable on the web with the background WITH the option to print just the document without the background? I think my answer is no, but I thought I would ask. I feel this option for the background should REALLY be in the print menu as this would be a good feature to turn on or off the background printing. Or is there a way to create layers before converting a PDF to Word?

Thanks in advance,

The labels are contnuous form tractor fed with a 3.0 inch vertical spacing. The text shifts further up each label if he tries to print more than one. The first line of text is out of the print area if he tries to print 4 or more at once.

He asked me if I could help keep mutltiple labels in alignment. We did find a "Forms Customization" screen. It showed integer numbers for the vertical spacing but no units of measure. Is there some other settings screen we need to be looking at to set the label size?

In Adobe Photo Shop CS2 trial version I uploaded a dark image from my pc and cropped out all but the black background and typed text inside it (let's call this finished image "the strip"), setting text color to white. I print it onto an existing photo. The problem is that the white text only shows up in the light colored areas of the existing photo. In the dark areas there is no text.

Can someone give me instructions on how to get printed text to show up on my existing photos. I have 30 photos I need to edit text into.

I have attached two pictures for you to see what I have already done. One is "the strip", the black background with white text that I am trying to print onto the existing photo and that I edited in Adobe Photo Shop CS2. The other picture is the photo I am trying to get the text onto.

In the middle of the symbol the words are invisible. That is where the problem lies. I have tried different colors of text and different colors of background, to no avail. I have lightened up the photo of the drummer in order for you to see the words better.

If you need more info, let me know. I realize that I can scan the photo and edit the text on it that way, but as I said, I already have 30 photos already printed out that need text added.

Thank you for your time

Open NOTEPAD, type a few lines and the <ctl>P to print it.

otherwise, disconnect power, wait a minute or two,
then go through the printer settings and test again.

Still having a problem, download and install new firmware from the vendor.

I have a bunch of .pdf files that I would like to have printed out. My problem is this; the text size after it gets printed out is too small for my old eyes to read (heck it's too small to read even on my monitor screen). Is there a way to enlarge the text size before I have them printed out so that when I have them printed out the text comes out nice and large ? If so, how do I do that?
Thank you

A:How do I enlarge the text size on a .pdf file before printing it out?

I don't know of a way you can increase the size prior to printing without some major time consuming conversion steps. But most if not all .pdf viewers I have seen, have the ability to zoom within the document on screen.

Using Picasa 3.9.0 on Windows 7 I am printing to a Canon MP560 onto 15x10cm paper and am trying to print some images in landscape mode with text option (file name) below image and shrink to fit clicked. Printing in portrait works fine but in landscape the text at the bottom of the image is truncated horizontally.

Any ideas how to resolve this apart from printing 4 images onto A4 paper?

A:Picasa printing - file name text is truncated horizontally

Just guessing as I don't have either...

Are both set to landscape?

Do the images come out alright?

Is it just the text?

Does it all look corect in the print preview, if the canon or picasa shows one?

Windows XP
Outlook 2003 (POP3, no exchange server)

I have a user on our network who is experiencing a really long lag time for printing plain text emails, but not for HTML emails. All other applications (Word, IE, etc) are also printing fine. The lag time can be up to several minutes, and he's found that when he does a ctrl alt delete it will prompt the printing window to come up (with the task manager), and then he can print. It's not a debilitating problem, but it's really annoying. I've already tried deleting and recreating the outlprnt file, but to no avail.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Recently, the auto text facility I use for numbering pages (page X of Y etc.) in Word 2000 began to do something very weird. Although the page numbers appear correctly in the document on screen, when I print the document, they appear on paper as 1/1, 2/2, 3/3 etc. rather than 1/3, 2/3 etc.

This happened a couple of years ago when i was using word 2000 on Windows 98. Microsoft sent me a 'quick fix' solution in the form of service pack downloads, saying it was something to do with a faulty Microsoft update. It appeared to solve the problem. However, after working perfectly for the first few months on my new PC and O/S (Windows XP Professional) the Auto Text function in Word has reverted to its former weirdness.

Any tips or advice would be greatly, greatly appreciated. I'm pulling my hair out as my work means I need to use Auto Text a lot.

Cheers, V

Hi...newbie here! I have windows xp and an epson stylus sx205. When attempting to print either personal docs or info off web pages the printer is printing out all coded text with text mixed in and no images or graphics at all. I have uninstalled and installed the printer twice (and have also used an uninstall tool to clear up any leftovers from the normal uninstall). The test page of the printer prints correctly! A couple of weeks ago I did a huge amount of maintenance on the comp to speed it up and it was only yesterday that I used the printer for first time since that , that the problem became apparant. So..I conclude I have somehow altered something, in error, and dont know for the life of me what that was or how I did it! Please help!!? Thanks.

When you remove the printer also open the printers folder and go to File > Server properties and go to the drivers tab and delete all drivers listed if they are not being used. Then try and reinstall the drivers with the most current ones from the Epson web site.

Hi there,

I've only been using my Epson SX200 inkjet printer for 6 months with unofficial cartridges and it has been working fine ever since. However, since last week the yellow cartridge doesn't print any ink and the black ink is printing blurry text. I can see this when I print a test sheet after head cleaning and printing documents. I have tried the head cleaning function about 20 times and this hasn't made any difference. As a result I have had to change all my cartridges twice and still no difference.

I asked Epson and they told me to use their official cartridges, but I've been using my printer fine up until now with unofficial cartridges. Has anyone experience a similar problem? I find it hard to believe that the cartridges are the reason, though I may be wrong? I may as well buy a new printer as it would near the same amount to buy the official cartridges.

I have attached an example printout from my printer.

Many thanks for your help.

A:Blurry text printing on Epson SX200 Inkjet Printer

I've seen this on rare occasions and it is always fixed by using the manufacturer-recommended ink cartridges.

Cheap ink, cheap results.

If you want to lower your ink costs, I recommend you get one of the printers that tout 'lowest ink cost' in their advertisements. I had one a couple of years ago and it was really what they claimed. The first company I saw with such a printer was Kodak. HP followed close behind with their own model. There may be other brands; but, I do so little color printing, I don't keep up with it. A black laser does 99.9% of all my printing at about zero-point-six cents per page average. That's not a typographical error; I can print 100 pages for about sixty cents.

See screenshot for example:

As you can see, it is left aligned in the actual document, which is how I want the label to print as well. Unless I'm missing it completely, I don't see a way to set alignment in the Mailings settings, so... how is this happening and more importantly, how do I make it NOT happen? The only workaround I've found is to delete everything and type it by hand - even copying the address, pasting it into a text document, and then copying and pasting that back into Word (which has nicely fixed other formatting issues I've come across) doesn't seem to fix it. What's really driving me up the wall on this one is that my letters are created using the exact same docx file which I then save with a specific file name - and this only seems to happen once every few weeks or so.

Hi everyone

I have Office 2008 for Mac.

I'm trying to print a two page document, the print preview is fine but when the document comes out of the printer, the text/info from the first page has been duplicated into the layout of the second page with the text that should be there totally gone. This means I only ever get 1 usable page and none of the vital second page information.

I've swapped printers, uninstalled and reinstalled all my software, done my office updates, restarted my computer, even tried a duplicate word document and am still not having any luck. My printer company is adamant its a Word problem.

Can anyone help?

I'm having trouble extracting text from the middle of a text string using Excel.

I've been searching around and there are a few ways this can be done however most really on using a function to search for the text after a specific letter or seperator.
For example singling out the middle initial of a name:

Jeffery J. Skilling
John D Doe

In Column B the First Name will be extracted using the following formula
=LEFT(A2,SEARCH(" ",A2,1)-1)

in Column C the Middle Initial will be extracted. for middle init use this formula
MID(A2,SEARCH(" ",A2,1)+1,1)
My problem is that i can't single out anything to search by to be able to define what needs to be extracted.

Below is a list containing some of the items from my list. As you can see they differ in number of characters and have multiple dashes "-". What formula/process can i use to extract the bold numbers from each of the text strings. I have about 27000 lines to process!

Once again your help is always greatly appreciated!

A:Solved: Excel: Extract text from the middle of a text string - Difficult

"multiple dashes": agreed, but in your sample all items have the same number of multiple dashes -- 3.

If that's a given, just use Data > Text to Columns with "-" as delimiter. Then delete fields 1, 2 & 4 from the results since it seems that "section" 3 is always the bold stuff.

HTH, if not post back.

Text files were created within excel by concatenating cells in each row. Each row became a text file. The contents of the text file are the contents of an html file. After the text file is created I change the file extension of the text file to html.

I need a mass replace text editor so I can replace the word (paramark) in the txt file (to be renamed as an html file) with a real paragraph mark that shows as a paragraph mark in Front Page.

The problem with doing what I am doing is when all the cells are concatenated in Excel, all the html contents end up on one line rather than having paragraphs separate the html lines.

Example: The Way The HTML Code Should Be
<title>Memory Master Bible Memory Program - NIV - 1 Peter 4:9</title>
<meta name="Microsoft Border" content="tlb, default">

Example: The Way The HTML Code Turns Out After Using Excel To Create The File

<html><head><title>Memory Master Bible Memory Program - NIV - 1 Peter 4:9</title><meta name="Microsoft Border" content="tlb, default"></head>
I can place text to be replaced (paramark) next to each paragraph mark so if I can find a text editor to mass replace a real paragraph mark in place of the word (paramark) my problem is solved.

I have four thousand files to process so I need to do a mass replace across files.

Thank you in advance for any replies.

Greetings! I've searched everywhere for the answer to this issue. It must be common, but I can't find it anywhere. I'm using MS Word 2007, but the problem was the same in 2003. I sometimes get a text box that is behind regular text. I need to move it. One normally just selects a text box and drags, or cut and paste, it where one wants.
