# Weird when unpacking rars

Q: Weird when unpacking rars

I have just replaced my old desktop for a new one that comes with windows 7 64 bit. But not sure why ever since I started using the new desktop to unpack rars and especially rars with parts, both winrar and 7zip often have error messages like:

"Packed data CRC failed"
"The volume is corrupted"
"The file is corrupted"
etc.

For example, one of my family member who lives in Ireland wants to send me a bunch of videos and photos taken from a trip they went. He packed these bunch of files into three part rars and uploaded onto a file hosting website and so I have to download each one of them. I first tried jdownloader and downloaded them but couldn't unzip it. Then I tried to download in the normal way using firefox but still couldn't unpack. And I started to think is the pack corrupted?

But then I tried to use my netbook (with win7 32 bit starter os) and downloaded the files through this computer, it unpacked smoothly without a hassle. I then tried to copy the files I have downloaded using my new desktop to my netbook and try to unpack them there but again it saids the file is corrupted. That means somehow it's not winrar or 7zip's problem but the way my new computer writes the files into the hard disk creates corrupted files?

So what's wrong with my new computer? Even my old desktop won't have these problems. Is it because of the 32 64 bit difference? Perhaps my Ireland cousin packed the files with winrar 32 bit and i used 64 bit didn't work? Or is it the process that the file is being written under a 64 bit os different from a 32 that makes the files corrupted?

I have many other similar experience that my new computer didn't work unpacking but my old computer and netbook worked given the files are downloaded from my old computer or netbook (both 32 bit). Including files from newsgroups and torrents (but i won't go there because of restrictions).

But how can I fix my new PC? Is it because of installing the wrong java? wrong service pack? etc? Any other people have similar issues?

Thanks!

I have downloaded several rar and zip files the problem is that when i open them they are empty my question is are the contents hidden or something and if so how do i unhide them.
I have winrar installed on my computer as well as 7z. Neither of them can see the files that should be in there. The zip/rar says that it is like 7mb but when i open it. on the bottem it says that there are no files and that it is 0kbs

By the way I'm running win 98.

Hey guys, I'll sum my problem shortly:
-extracting RAR files using Winrar or 7 ZIP is very very, about 1:30 hour for 2.5 GB.
-copying files from other computer to mine is very slow as well: starts with speed of 12MB\s and falls pretty fast to 0.5MB\s.
- I believe I should mention- on wednesday night my computer was slow as a turtle, and it took him 5 minutes to open control panel. installed a new windows update, and it works just fine now. and then I discovered that rar's problem.
the steps I did so far:
-reinstalled winrar and 7zip.
- clean boot, check disk, windows memry check, some tool of my MS which said everything is fine with my computer.
- AntiVirus scan, malware and spyware scan, CC Cleaner.
- in Device Manager, my IDE stays in DMA mod, it doesn't converts itself to PIO mod. however I reinstalled my IDEs.

what I'm doing now: trying to defragment my disks. however I dont believe it'll help. windows says: (1% fragmented) so its not such a big problem I believe.

I used google, and seen about 7 or 8 threads around the internet of people with the same problem as mine, or with similiar one. however, I couldn't find the answer there- since no one gave her.

details on my computer:
Windows 7 32 bits, 3 GB RAM, Core2Duo 2.13GHz.

p.s- I tried to extract the same files on another computer- a laptop core2duo 2.6GHz and 4 GB RAM, and it went smoothly, and finished in 3 minutes.

I would really appriciate any help. thanks in advance.

Here is what I have.It works in a test folder with 2 rars and 1 zip but when I put it in the folder with four hundred rars and zips,it creates the folder and just hangs at the "please wait" message for two hours.

Findstr is capable of finding the exact text you are looking for in any ASCII file or files.

IOW findstr doesn't seem intended for searching for files stored in archives. Off the top of my head, I'd do something like this:

Code:
for %%F in (*rar,*.zip) do "C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe" l "%%F" | findstr /m /i /e ".car" >NUL && move "%%F" cars >NUL

I've downloaded a large application (Quicken) in .rar format. I extracted it with Winrar and now I have 18 tidy little bundles of 15mb each in the intended directory. Bad news is I haven't the faintest idea what to do with them now. there aren't any .exe or installation files as far as I can see--just those 18 bundles. Can anyone straighten me out?

I'm trying to install Renaissance Starter Edition, but the program just unpacks the files somewhere, and doesn't actually start the installation routine. I tried it at work, and it started installing, but on my PC at home, it unpacks the files, then nothing. It goes that fast, I don't know what the files are, or where it's put them. Any suggestions?

I was happy but PC was in the wrong spot so I turned it off put it where it need to be and nothing I tried all other outlets then the one that worked previously but nothing. I referred to manual and seemed original set up was wrong but I'm not getting to work in the right set up. What am I doing wrong is it just power problem? Sounds like to me the front panel connection is hooked up wrong, which could do some damage to the system over time. If your not comfortable taking it apart and reconnecting all if it, I'd wait and take it back to the place where you bought it and have them look at it and fix it.

Hello everyone
It's a long time since I don't write an article in MA but I decided to explore some important concepts to analyze malware.

"Understanding packers and detecting a packed file" is a topic treated by @kram7750 in this thread :http://malwaretips.com/threads/malw...ng-packers-and-detecting-a-packed-file.42356/

I will talk to unpacking
The manual unpacking is definitely the most complex to learn. Although a malware can be sometimes much more difficult by a packer, it is much easier to explain the theory behind a malware, rather than explain the operation of a packer. This is primarily due to two reasons. First, you need to have a unpacking knowledge of a wider number of arguments: it is not enough to understand the machine code and know that debugging. In addition, the term "packer" is very generic. The packer implement all sorts of anti-reversing techniques and even an entire book would suffice to explain them all in detail.

I will try to make myself understood even by those who don't have a clue what a packer. However, it is useless to deny that you have to engage, and not just to see this introduction. Do not confuse, even if there are other threads, this article represents the real end of our route. If you include the following, all the rest you'll learn without difficulty and it will update your knowledge base package. Here, we define the article on manual unpacking the culmination of knowledge. To write this introd... Read more

Whenever I download a large archive, whether it's 7z, RAR format or some bin format (that's unpacked via provided installer), I always have problems unpacking.

What happens is that, while extracting, I receive errors about some files that are corrupted and cannot be extracted. The FUNNY thing is, if I try to extract the same archive again it says some other file is corrupted while the one that was "corrupted on my first try now extracts properly. I don't know how is that even possible.

1) I know that the archives I download/get from friends are not corrupted, and I can trust those sources.
2) I've tried basically everything, like re-downloading, trying with numerous attempts, and updating the software I use (7z, Win RAR, or Daemon tools for those bin archives I mentioned).

Any help? Thanks,
VAO

I'm wondering if your hard drive has some bad sectors. You might run a disk check program to see. Your drive manufacturer will probably have one.

My problem is that if u wanna unpack an exe file, could be a setup exe., then it will save the data in the temp folder (Windows drive), and my problem is that i made a patision (or however to spell that in english.. ) so i got 10 gb for windows, so if my windows ****s up i will be able to just reinstall without worrying too much for my files. (Programs like registery mechanic will often solve the registery prob.) Anyways, this means i don't have enough space on my c-drive, as i should have given it more ofc.. Should have given it 15 instead, as my programs are on that drive aswel... anyways! thats not the matter.. the matter is that when some exe. files wants to extract they want to extract huge amounts of software before installing, im talking about 1,3 gb + here, and i cant get that much space without deleting half of my programs or so.. SO what i want to know, is there a way to manualy unpack an exe. file ? Or is there a way to change its unpacking destination, so it won't save in temp.. thanks for all upcomming answer.

Change the place where it unpacks to the other partition you have for files, programs etc. This should be on the extraction wizard.

This help request might fit in alternate discussion threads, but this seems like the most logical place to post... these could be 2 separate issues, but it feels like they are connected to me.

Problem:
A - Unpacking any RAR, Zip, 7z, etc file - particularly large ones results in CRC or other unpacking errors 90% of the time. Sometimes a simple retry works, sometimes re-downloading the compressed file works.. sometimes nothing works. Anything over 1GB is almost sure to fail miserably every time (often fails on different files within the package.
(this occurs using winzip, winrar, 7zip)

B - Multiple game client crashes - Oblivion, Various MMORPG (WoW, LOTRO, many others) crash constantly.. if the computer doesn't freeze or blue screen, the error is 100% the client .exe file .. it doesn't happen just on strenuous load sequences or 'laggy' areas.. it can just happen sitting in the middle of an unpopulated area.. varies once per 1-5 hrs.. rarely goes 3 gameplay attempts without at least 1 crash.

Both errors have occured pretty consistently over the last 3 years.. i give up on some games that have more crashes than others.. and give up on some because i can never even unpack the game to play it.

Hi guys, I have just recently upgrade my computer from Windows XP to Windows 7, but since then I haven't been able to install most games.

During installation, each game has a different error message but generally, the problem seems to lie in games that require unpacking large files, such as *.bin. For example, while trying to install Assassin's Creed 3, this message appeared:

An error occurred while unpacking: archive corrupted! Unarc.dll returned an error code: -7. ERROR: archive data corrupted(decompression failed)Click to expand...

or

Decompression failed with error code: -12. Bad CRC in the archive data0.binClick to expand...

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600)

GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series
DirectX 11
Motherboard: ASUS P7P55D
BIOS: 9/24/9 Ver: 08.00.15

What I've tried so far:

Updated drivers of graphic card, mainboard, etc.
Installed in safe mode.
Tried installing these games in another computer (everything's fine)
Reinstalled Windows 7.
Formatted entire HDD, reinstalled Windows XP (now even Windows XP has this problem)
Bought a new HDD

You may have other Spyware issues. First you can disable the Firewall. If the Spyware program opens then it has it's own Firewall that conflicts with Windows. You should also download CCleaner delete temp files, run Registry Cleaner too. Then download malwarebytes run full scan delete nasties.

OK, so I have a load of FLV files and a README.txt. I need each FLV in a RAR with the README.txt.

I can select all the FLVs in the folder > right click > Add To Archive... > Files tab > Select "Put each file to separate archive".

Now that will add all the FLVs to separate RARs... but how can I get them to have the README.txt file as well without having to drop the file into each individual RAR?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

first of all, hello to you all

as they thread title may allude; i am a little disgruntled at my first atempt to install my brand new genuine Windows 7 x64 Home Premium OEM

after the first 4 attempts at installing Win7 i managed to get around the installer asking for 'unknown device driver' by unplugging my card reader. I have been running XP x64 OEM for some time and have re-installed it at least 5 times and have never had any problems what so ever; if only the same were true for Win7!

having done some research it became clear that Win7 should take no more then 30-40 minutes to install; but here i am 23hrs later and it STILL hasn't even started installing yet; its still 'unpacking windows files' @ 99%...

has anyone else had this problem? if so, what did you do to fix it?

A:23hrs - "unpacking windows files"

Welcome to Seven Forums.

Nice job on the system specs.

How long has it been at 99%?

We've made a list of questions which are the result of reoccurring incidents seen so far.
If you can have a look at these and give us your answers we'll be able to give you better suggestions.

Questions to use for help with Installation Issues

We have also seen people with AMD mother boards having these problems, try taking out all memory cards except one, if that doesn't work then move the memory card to a different slot and try again.

Do you have HyperTransport function settings in your BIOS?
There are two options in the BIOS Setup called K8 -- KN HT Speed and K8 -- KN HT Width, both are normally set as Auto. Change them to K8 -- KN HT Speed to 1x and K8 <-> KN HT Width to 8 8. You can change them back after the install.

If this doesn't work, then reply with more details and we'll try again.
EDIT:
Just read a thread where a guy with an AMD board was having similar problems said he turned off 'Cool 'n Quiet' setting (the feature that turns down the fan RPM). He also found a bad RAM stick by running memtest86+. After that Win7 installed with no problem. Might be worth a try.

Hi... I was wondering if anyone else is having same problem as me when trying to install the 32-bit RC. I have created a 50 gigs logical partition on my hard drive to install windows 7 on (i'm using Vista Home Premium on my Dell laptop). on installation screen i select the drive for the new installation and so it goes to the next screen where it shows a list of bunch of stuff that it's supposed to do. The first one is "copying files" or something along those lines which gets checked and so it moves to the second thing that is i believe called unpacking the installation files (or something similar). My installation "freezes" there as it shows 0% for about an hour or two and then it errors and cancels the installation.
any help would be much appreciated.

I am completely perplexed with this.

Ok so I have the installation file for Alcohol 120% v1965529 on a DVD, so when I try copy pasting it to my E:\ drive I get an Access Denied - Make sure the file is not in use or write protected error.

However, I can copy it with no problem to my C:\ drive. Once I do that, if I try to run the installation, I get the "Windows cannot find the specified path, device or file. Make sure you have the appropriate permissions to access the item." error.

Trying to copy it from C:\ to E:\ gives me the access denied error again, and I've already removed all atributes, like read-only. What the hell is going on here? I'm system administrator, and in the 4+ years I've been using WinXP, I have never seen this problem! The file isn't corrupt, it works on other computers.

Right clicking on it, the context menu takes a good 6 seconds to show up.

Hello everyone,

i'm having a weird problem in my setup, it's not a real problem but it's very annoying.

i can't post a screenshot right now, but the situation is pretty simple:

i have a "login button" (see attached example) floating on the left of my third screen. It's the same exact button from the login screen.

The button can't be moved, it doesn't react to right-click but it does react to left click, showing the account control panel

If i try to change resolution (forcing a redraw of the screens) the button goes away, then it comes back in the same position after some time (minutes)

how can i get rid of it?

This will continuously ping google and give you a response time in milliseconds. If you have broadband, an average response time is between 10 ms and 100 ms. Anything above 100 is simply a poor service provider. But what your looking for is the connection to time out. Let it respond about 100 times and watch to see if it ever responds "Request Timed Out". If it does, then you have confirmed that your internet is dropping packets. To fix this, you have to first determine if its your equipment or your isp's. If you are connected directly to a cable modem or dsl modem/router, then call your isp and tell them you are dropping packets. If you are not directly connected to a cable modem or dsl modem/router, then do so and run the test again to verify that it is the isp. Hello, new guy here, now for my problem, the problem i seem to be having is Remove Disk or other media, but its not on start up of my computer, but its on System Recovery, then when i hit enter it will then go to disk Boot error, i am on windows xp and i have a HP Pavlon, the reason i want to use my System Recovery is i am fixing to start a new project for a website for my city, and i want to setup a localserver, so i want my computer to have a fresh start, and since i haven't used system recovery in like 6 or 9 months its dued. so if anyone can help me pass this Remove disk or other media on system Recovery would be appriciated. the only thing i have plugged in is my dsl connection and kordless keyboard and mouse, i completely disabled my printer and camera and there is no disk in either of my disk drives, and yes i have stuff in D drive HP_Recovery, i do not believe the stuff i have in the drive would cause this error as i have put the same things in it before.

so if anyone knows this problem on System Recovery would be appriciated for any help

Thanks

A:Weird Error in Weird Place

Did you try changing the boot order in the bios? Or if you are trying to boot to a recovery partition I am fairly certain HP uses the F10 key when you are going to boot to go into system recovery. But I don't have an HP so I could be wrong but it should be one of the F Keys.

Hello,
I have just installed ms office professional recently. I usually open this program for a game. When i open it it gives me this -- Imageshack - 85374956
It happened with this program. I dont think it does with the other ones..
This has not happened until i installed ms office 2007. im really pissed now because i have had quite alot of problems with it. I might just uninstall it and never install it again because its interfeiring with other programs. If anyone can help cool if not ill just uninstall it.

A:Weird - Very weird annoying problem

Nothing happens if you wait for it to "finish configuring"? May I suggest trying to run it as administrator? Even if you're running an administrator account, you may want to try and give the program administrator privileges; right-click on the program you're running and select Run as Administrator.

Aiite, so, can anyone tell me if this would be a good idea?

I have 2 hard drives. Hard Drive 1 (called Nadia2a) will have 2 copies of Windows xp (partitioned). One copy for gaming, and the other copy for programming and general purposes. Hard Drive 2 (called Nadia2b) will act as the source of the programs, data for both partitions.

Theoretically speaking, Both copies of windows xp will detect the files on the Nadia2b, which is what I want. But, since they're both reading the data from Nadia2b will having a gaming windows xp partition really increase the performance of the games? I would use this strictly for gaming, and then use the other partition for general purposes. In my head, I think it would because it wouldn't be running any background services that won't be used since it's the gaming partition. Also, it will be tweaked up so nicely....

And since it's on a different partition, it wouldn't effect the other General Purpose Windows xp which is free to use services, background programs, which would normally decrease performance.

So, is this a good idea or?
Please tell me if I'm not making sense, I'll be more than happy to answer any/all questions. Thanks!

P.s, the reason why I want the programs and data on another hard drive is so that I can reformat the OS hard drive with out having to burn cd's to back up my stuff (40 gigs of data uses quite a bit of cd's hehe) and still have the data perfectly intact when I use... Read more

A:Weird Question.. Very.. Weird.

There really is an easier way. In the properties of My Computer, Hardware tab, you will see a button for hardware profiles.

I have one profile for gaming in which all the unneeded services are turned off, and another profile for general use where all the default services are running.

I have the option at boot to choose a profile.

Msconfig can be used to turn off startup programs that you want off for gaming.

So, you really need only one partition for the OS.

I have the strangest problem with my internet since updating to W8. My internet works absolutely fine all day, up until later in the day (not sure what time exactly this happens) but it stops working! It says it is connected but it simple can't find a network.

I am connected via LAN to an apartments in house internet setup.

I honestly have no idea what the problem could be! When I was in W7 it was fine. The ethernet cable is always plugged in properly.

I have talked to the internet "pro's" who operate the LAN in the building but they are confused by this too.

Help would be great thanks.

A:Weird Weird Problem!

Are others in the building also losing their internet access at a similar time? Upgrading to Windows 8 could be co-incidental. There are some really bizarre things that can upset an ADSL signal if that's how the building gets its access.

Hello,

This post is long, but contains all the required details. Thanks for the help in advance.

First of all, quick background. I'm 29 and decently knowledgeable when it comes to computers. Now, I haven't kept that up-to-date on hardware in the recent 2-3 years, but still.

Bought a computer in August 2007. Specs were : Intel dualcore 3ghz (6850), 4 gig of Corsair (CM2X2048-8500C5D), Antec 650W TruPower, Antec Ninehundred case, eVGA GeForce 8800GTX, 2x 250gig WDC in raid0, Gigabyte P35C-DS3R. Now, in July 2008, started having issues, sometimes bluescreens, etc. Thinking it might be the video card, I swapped my roommate's; he had a eVGA 8800GT. No more crashes, but he didn't get any either... Weird, but meh. Few months laters, I start to get crashes again.

- Once every 2 days (sometimes more often, can happen twice a day but on average every 2 days) I get a complete system lockup. Everything freezes. Actually, that's not true. It can occur in one of the following 3 ways :
- Everything instantly freezes. If there was sound, it "repeats" the last 0.1 second of it infinitely.
- Everything freezes, but I can keep moving my mouse around for 20-30 seconds then it locks up (this is the most frequent crash)
- Everything freezes, but I keep hearing the sound properly (say I'm watching a TV show, I'll hear dialogues, but the video is frozen, etc).

Another info : Coincidence, maybe, but I had a portable AC plugged in last summer. And I could hear every once i... Read more

Hello,

A friend of mine told me that she was having trouble with her laptop.
She doesn't know much about computers, so she gave it to me to take a look at it.

When I try to boot up the laptop, it immediatly reboots itself about 2 seconds into the XP boot screen. This happens if I try to boot in safe mode as well. I do not know how i might go about investigating this because i cannot successfully boot windows. This happens with and without the power adapter plugged in.

Heres what I've been able to gather about the system

Gateway Notebook
XP home edition , dunno what SP
Celeron M 1500ghz cpu
512ram

Thanks

A:Here's a weird one for you...

Also: I realize that Windows is likely corrupt. If the only solution to this is a windows reinstallation, is there any way for me to save my friend's files, I have never used this laptop before so I do not know what is on it and it might be important.

Today I opened my task manager when I had to kill an unresponsive program and I found a weird .exe file that I hadn't seen before: "dcomuti.exe". I tried to google search it without finding any results. Then I tried to kill the task, but it said "Permission denied". I have downloaded two programs today and I don't know if either of them could have contained that, they were GifSplitter and VTFEdit. I am using Windows 7.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Okay...

I am trying to listen to a radio station on-line that streams using "Surfer Network Player" technology.

When I click the "Listen Live" button, I get a Java Script error window and nothing happens. When I try and go to the company's website (www.surfernetwork.com), nothing happens. I get a "This page cannot be viewed" white screen thing.

Here's the thing, though...When I try to take these steps on my Mom's computer...It works fine!

I have checked all of my settings, ran DOZENS of spyware removal tools, made sure all of my add-ons and java scripts are enabled, manipulated my Internet and Browser settings, disabled firewalls and anti-virus and much, much more...to no avail.

Have I accidentally deleted a file or registry item that enables "surfer network" to read my connection speed etc...? It seems like that's the root of the problem. Surfer Network's website can't "communicate" with my computer, therefore it won't let me read their website.

I do NOT want to reinstall Windows XP. (I'm always afraid I'm gonna lose some important files)

A:Okay...This is weird...

Hi... you can check out your windows files easily enough and without endangering any data files... with your Windows CD in a drive go to START>RUN and type sfc /scannow (the space after sfc is essential) - hit Enter.

I would suggest doing the above combined with going up to Tool>Internet options on IE top bar and clearing out cookies and temp files followed by clicking on the Programs tab and then 'Reset Web settings'

Follow this by uninstalling the player software, close and restart PC and reinstall the player software.

I can't say for sure, but I think the "Windows Messenger" pop-ups were fixed with the SP2 update.

Have you updated your computer to SP2 ? If not, don't do it now as trying to run SP2 with (possible) malware on-board can turn a little problem into a huge one.

Q: Weird..

Well this all started yesterday. I turned on my computer and once I logged on it froze right away so I turned it off and back on again. This happened several times and I noticed that it was my start menu that kept freezing. So I tried doing a system restore but it said it was not completed because of files or something. I tried it again with a different restore point and the same thing happened. So I tried logging in again but this time all I got was a black screen. I pressed CTRL ALT DEL and I got a message saying Logon failed security or something like that.

Im not sure whats wrong with it.

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling both Java and Firefox but no difference.

To add to this I don't have this issue using FF on my HP laptop. Both are Windows 7-64bit.

I have a lynksys wrt54g router and my brother has the card in his machine. After installing Windows XP it found all the drivers. Then it went on and found a 1394 net adapter as well as a Via Rhine II ethernet adapter. These were never installed on the computer. I went into device manager and uninstalled them but every time the computer is booted up it keeps saying found new hardware and re installs those two extra adapters.

Whilst browsing TSG on my laptop (running ME), a message popped up telling me that firefox had caused an error. It offered me the choice to ignore and close, and seeing as ignore did nothing, i closed the program. A different pop-up then displayed saying firefox had caused an error in GDI.EXE. I tried restarting fireox and coming on this site again, yet the same thing happened again. It also happened when I tried going on other forum sites (computing.net being another one I tried). It did however let me on google.

I then tried to come on TSG on IE. Same thing again. The pop-up suggested restarting my laptop, which I did. Now that I have, I can come on here again, yet performance is amazingly sluggish. Even as I type these words it takes a few seconds to catch up with itself.

I am unsure whether this problem is spyware or malware related, could someone please lookover my HJT log, or suggest what could be wrong?

Why dont you get a second hard drive install XP fresh on that drive. And use the original as a second drive. That way if it happens again the content on the second drive is not affected by a crashing system.

Q: Weird

Working on a friend's computer, and I have the feeling it's not clean. Ran both spybot and adaware from safemode, and manually deleted unwanted registry keys. All signs say the computer is clean, but if I turn on Zona Alarm (on high internet zone security) web browsing goes crazy -- firefox can access most sites, but "can't find" search engines (unless I use ip address as url) and IE rederects google.com requests to yahoo.com (among other weird behavior).I looked through the HOSTS file and DNS settings and they seem to be fine, and I suspect it's malware related since the problems occur when I turn on the firewall, otherwise everything works fine.Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 8:39:23 PM, on 5/7/2005Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXBCES.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXPPS.EXEC:\WINDOWS\System32\hkcmd.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Logitech\MOUSEW~1\SYSTEM\EM_EXEC.EXEC:\Program Files\UIUC VirusScan Installer\SHSTAT.EXEC:\Program Files\Network Associates\Common Fra... Hello r3xt3r and welcome to the BC forums. After reviewing your log I see no signs of viruses or malware at this time. The log is clean.

it would make sense that the searches are going through Yahoo since all of the search settings point there. See the various settings in the R0/R1 lines. yahoo should be the search engine that is used.

Getting strange results when ZA is set to high Security is not anything new with ZA. Check out their forum boards for similar problems from other users. for Internet access just set the settings to Medium.

Cheers.

Alright I have a cable modem hooked up to my router in my room. I have three connections for the router. One for my computer in my room, the other for my xbox and another for the downstairs computer. I also have a cable wire feeding to my room from the basement. I use a splitter to split the cable to my television and modem. I also have a few other splitters in my house.

Just recently the modem has been giving me problems with the cable. For some strange reason it won't connect through the splitter. The lights light up and then all of a sudden they go out. I tried a new splitter, I tried switching which peg goes to the tv and modem, I tried a new wire nothing. If I remove the splitter and hook it up directly to the cable wire running to my room it works fine. If I hook it up to the cable downstairs it works fine.

What in the hell is wrong? Just one day it stopped working? Anyone have any ideas.

Q: Weird

I started to download lime wire and while it was finishing i went to work. When I came back it had a blue screen on it and said that a new program was causing problems, and i should restart my computer. I tried that and it would do the same thing even when i tried to open it in safe mode. Apparently I lost one of my systems.exe processes. I tried to reinstall XP pro and went to the bios screen so the CD-ROM drive loads first. Usually there is something that says to start press any button. Nothing, it wont read my CD-ROM drive. Any ideas?

Welcome to TSG....

Unfortunately we are not allowed to do any work on P2P networks like limewire since these are for the illegal downloading of programs and other items. Please to read the TSG rules

I've been dealing with a few random restarts mostly when I play games but also randomly when I'm surfing or while the computer is just sitting. Also, if I right click on the desktop and go to properties, there are no tabs to select from and I only have the option of picking my theme. I can't even get to change my display resolution or screensaver or backround! However, if I change to a default theme then reselect "My Current Theme", all the tabs are back, but they don't stay. I've already gone to System settings and unchecked the box "Automatically restart" for system failures to see if that will stop the random restarts. I'm not sure what to do to fix the whole thing about desktop properties having missing tabs. Here is my hijack this log:

I highly recommend you get rid of Kazaa. It is full of spyware and the source of many problems. A lot of the problems you have now are from the garbage that comes bundled with Kazaa and is installed on your PC without your knowledge.

Go here and get KazaaBegone and run it to get rid of Kazaa:

Download and unzip or install these programs/applications if you haven't already got them. If you have them, then make sure they are updated and configured as described

Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de

then
Run Sybot S&D

After installing, first press Online, press search for updates, then tick the updates it finds, then press download updates. Beside the download button is a little down pointed arrow, select one of the servers listed. If it doesn't work or you get an error message then try a different server

Next, close all Internet Explorer and OE windows, press 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds that is marked in RED.

then reboot &

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate".

Then ........

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

then......

click "Use custom scanning options>Customize"... Read more

Heres the situation :

A couple of days ago , while i was using Skype, some random messages began to appear on my chat box ( personal info ) . I thought this was just a macro I had set up , but it wasn't . I checked all my macros , none were set to those type of things written on my screen . It happened at 6:21pm ( important info , you'll see why later ). Couple days later , while playing an online game, the same messages kept appearing on my screen , once again around 6:21 pm . This time i noticed something ; they were my sisters credit card information ,and some excel formula . She confirmed to me , that she had in no way , have used my computer . I told her to change all her passwords , and personal info , which she did on her Smartphone . I asked around some friends  , and followed some intructions they gave me ; run a full virus scan , and malware scan on both smartphones and personal pc , Which I did , everything came out clean. I changed my routers settings , password  ,etc.. A day later , the issue seemed to be resolved... So i thought...
Today at 6:22 pm , the text began to appear once again , but this time, it was writting the NEW information  ( passwords ) my sister had setup a couple days earlier.
Now I'm scared.

Here's what I have done so far:

Antimalware : Full scan

Hi all,

first time poster ... anyway,

a friend brought over his vista machine (home premium 64 sp1) and it cannot connect to the net. not through ie7 (for him preferred), firefox, or this other one he has called wyzo. there also seem to be multiple copies of ie on the box (ie and an ie 64).

i started researching the problem on the 'net, and found, well, all kinds of info. a little background...i have a wrt54g, a compaq desktop/xp sp2, powerbook g4 osx10.4, old ass compaq latop running fedora9, acer aspire one xp hsdpa, and a ps2, and xbox through a hub to a network bridge. all wirelessly connected. to slow ass at&t. and it all works and it's working as i post this. (itunes radio alternative/live105) so i know its not my network.

so with all the info thats readily (abeit you have to sift) available, i tried a few things. the wireless portion of the laptop seems to be working. hardware wise it lights up and switches. it connected to my network fine. start ie7 and nothing. i installed firefox. nothing. "cannot find page" and all that. same with that wyzo. i even plugged it in physically to the router with some cat5. i let it try to diagnose itself and it of course cant find the problem.

so i dig into google and come up with the dhcp flag thing. checked it, its already set at 1. but its called DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag and thats for both devices. i also found info about an update that is messing people up. but the only MS updates on the machine are MSXML 4... Read more

A:this is a weird one...maybe someone can help...

sounds like something else on another thread.

Since you have an ethernet cable, it is best to plug the machine in questions directly into your router, since this eliminates all wireless security and compatibility issues. After you get it working wired, then shoot for wireless.

If I am hearing that you have two machines connected, "yours" can connect both to your router and to the WAN (internet), and "YOUR FRIEND'S" can connect to your router, but NOT to the internet?

If you answer "I DON'T KNOW" then:

1) open your router configuration with both machines on and look up "DHCP TABLE" or "CONNECTED DEVICES" and see if both machines are listed.

2) try to access your router (192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.100.1 usually unless you have changed it) using YOUR FRIENDS machine

from here on out, we assume you can connect to the router with both machines.

on your firen'ds machine, try clearing static routes:

1) open a command prompt (START-->ALL PROGRAMS-->ACCESSORIES-->COMMAND PROMPT) and type:

ROUTE -f

(wait for a new command prompt, then type:

IPCONFIG /release

(wait for a new command prompt, then type):

IPCONFIG /renew

2) double check that the router's DHCP server is set to ON
3) double check that the machine's IE LAN settings are reset:
START-->CONTROL

I keep getting this pop-up like every few seconds that says:

C:\Users\Windows\Music\Songs\Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location.

I don't understand this. this is talking about my music file..which I never moved or anything! I didn't touch it and this just kept poping up since yesterday for no reason...

What can I do to get rid of this???
I didn't move anything, my Internet is fine, I don't get it...I didn't delete anything..I did nothing!

Can anyone help me out..
How do I get rid of this pop-up?

I asked someone yesterday on this diff. forum and they said I have to do a system restore..
For a pop-up? I really don't wanna do that..

Is there anything else I can do..

-Thanks=)

Q: weird

I have cox high speed internet. When I connect from my CableModem to my wired pc, I get 3200 - 3800kbs. When I add a wireless router, and go from the Cable Modem to the wireless router and connect my PC to the wan ports on the wireless, my speed goes down to 200 - 500kbs. My other PC which is connected wirelessly, also gets speeds of 200 - 500kbs. If I remove the Router from the system, speed goes back to the 3200 - 3800kbs. I have changed all settings and tried all combinations I can think of. I have tried different wireless routers. I always get the same effect.

Up until about 4 months ago, I had the higher speeds even with the router connected. No changes on my system that I can tell. Things seemed to slow down over a few months.

Checked for spys, bugs, pests..... none found.

Any Ideas?

That could be a bit of malware which made its way into your system. Please do noc click on it, as that could make it worse.

determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Double-click on the file you just downloaded. Click
on the "Unzip" button to install. It will by default install to the directory - C:\PROGRAM FILES\HIJACKTHIS\

I think I have a pop up virus or something wrong in my laptop ( Dell Inspiron 6000- XP). About every 4-5 minutes down in the tool bar something opens up for a second and goes away, just a empty box with a file icon on it. But it will freeze some programs I may be running at the time and I have to close all out and start over again. Or I'm at idol it will interrupt the screen saver. I started a guest acct afterwords and that account seems to be free from the pop up. My McAfee finds nothing (all up to date) and scanned from the Norton web site and they found nothing. I installed AVG 7.5, nothing. I also installed Spy-Bot SD and Ad-Aware SE Personal, A2Squared and all found problems and was removed but the pop up is still there. I managed to hit CTRL-ALT-DEL while it was popping up but nothing showed in the window and I see no changes in the process? window. This has been happening for a few weeks now so I?m not sure if it started after a updated or when one of the kids was using it. I try to keep everything up to date, most is set for auto update. I didn't install anything new around the time it started. Thanks for any help and suggestions.

When I first bought my pc, once or twice a week my mouse would stop responding, windows from one app would overlap windows from other apps, the icons on the desktop would turn all white or all black, and the icons in the taskbar and system tray would all become the same one. I could never figure out when or why it would happen. I was never doing the same thing or running the same apps - very random. And the store was no help. Eventually it just stopped happening.

Then last week I reformatted my hard drive to clean things up and the problem has returned - BUT only when I'm on the internet. But it is still very random. I can't make it happen. It just does.

Any help is appreciated.

Every time i turn my p.c off ,all my desktop icons move over to the left side of my screen.
No matter how many times i move them it still happens.I know this must be something stupidly simple.

A:Just weird one

Right-click on the Desktop and select View
Uncheck Auto Arrange and Align to Grid
Does that help?

Hey Everyone.

I am using Netscape 7.2 on Windows 2000 and have a really weird problem. I have a web-page that contains a Authorware object.

this is the code for that object...

<param name="SRC" value="showhow.aam">
<param name="PALETTE" value="background">
<param name="WINDOW" value="onTop">
<param name="BGCOLOR" value="#FFFFFF">
</embed>
</object>

In my Authorware I have a close button it is suppose to close the Authorware and the window that opened it, using JavaScript. When I click the close button I get the following JavaScript error in NetScape.

'Scripts may not close windows that were not opened by script'

However when I do open that window with JavaScript, and click the close button, Netscape crashes.
